Effective January 1, 2024, Lifetime Fitness will limit Medicare supplemental Insurance memberships by the time and days the club can be accessed, unless additional money is paid. The club, of course denies that it is limiting membership access to a specific class of people. I have been a paying member at the Maple Grove location before it WAS Lifetime. I just retired and took advantage of my supplemental insurance benefit that included free membership. Whether it is discriminatory or not (I am sure their attorneys have covered all of those bases), is it also their right to limit whoever they want to become members? It is a fact that this decision negatively impacts a class of people who are of a certain age and/or disability. They are basically telling me that I can go there to be surrounded with a certain class of people or pay a price.

After over 3 years I’m no longer a member at this fitness center Tempe, AZ, lately it’s been unpleasant. It’s very crowded for one and the kids academy is truly awful. Kelsey S. manager at the kids club very unmotivated incompetent and unprofessional. Completely discriminated my kids. I’ll definitely pass on my experience.

First, Life Time is a fabulous place to workout, but a very very expensive place. I cancelled my membership in August of 2023. One would think that my last payment would see me through the end of the billing cycle. Not so. I was charged close to $50 to take me to the end of my fiscal month. This is a sad billing practice and one that will cause me to never return as a customer.

In July of 2020 I requested cancellation of my membership in writing due to COVID and was emailed last day will be 7/31/2020. However Lifetime fraudulently kept charging for membership and refusing to reimburse once it was noticed. I haven’t used the facility once since I cancelled and they refuse to reimburse back even though I have email where they are saying my last day of membership will be 7/31/2020. Awful organization with fraudulent billing system who take advantage of members during COVID time.

We were told, and sold on a founders rate that would not change more van a small/fractional percentage. As long as we kept at least one full-time membership active. Even when my wife and I could not go to the gym, or when we just chose not to. We kept our membership because this was the agreement, we literally spent thousands because it would ultimately pan out if both sides kept their agreement., We literally spent thousands because it would ultimately pan out if both sides kept their agreement. They did not. It is that simple. Bad business, bad experience, bad management, Bad etHics. Even the employees I have spoken with talk about the huge drop in membership and chuckle about it. Also, it’s unbelievable to hear the foul mouth employees cussing in front of my children. Gross.

I have both worked for and been a member of multiple locations. I can honestly say this company treats its entry level employees like complete trash. I was hired to teach swim however they ended up scheduling me to babysit up to 12 toddlers at once for hours at a time by myself with 0 breaks. Then when I gave my 30 day notice per their guidelines I was terminated but conveniently they kept my membership fees for the month and refused to refund them. I will be disputing this charge with my CC company. Never give them direct bank account access or you will lose your rights in the matter. I hope they are exposed for the fraud. It is stealing money from employees you’re paying minimum wages to.

They have a policy in place that actively discriminates against children with disabilities and this policy was never shared until today but is being fully enforced. My child has autism and despite multiple notifications of this and requests for them to call me down if he’s getting upset (because he is unable to regulate his emotions which is a big part of his diagnosis) have failed to do so. In fact they have made me feel horrible by saying that “parents were complaining about his behavior”. As if having a child who is not neurotypical isn’t hard enough now you are going to have staff tell in two separate instances that parents basically don’t like that he’s autistic?? Deloris the so called manager who seems more concerned with staying stationary and stuffing her face instead of actually walking around managing refused to make any accommodations at all. This as well as this policy is actually a direct violation of ADA according to my attorney.
Additionally, their policy is not something my child is even capable of following (again never mentioned until today - not at sign up nor during the two times I had to pick up my son early for his behavior). Deloris also was rude while I was speaking to her regarding this and took a call while I was mid sentence. She didn’t even apologize despite me audibly saying that was a rude thing to do. They have no one there trained to work with any child with any disability yet promote on their website “an inclusive environment for all”. I’m paying $40 a month to not even be able to have my child use the location because he is now suspended for 2 days (per the policy) for having autism. We are now having to drive 45 minutes to the North location where my son has no issues at all. Ag this point even if they did remedy this situation I still would feel completely uncomfortable having anyone in the South location anywhere near him at this point in time.

Requested my membership be changed the senior citizen rate. Was NEVER told that the club I have been a member at for over 25 years was not included in the rate that was provided. When I was attempting to register online for fitness class, received message stating my membership did not allow me to register. When I inquired was told the club level changed and that I was grandfathered in and they were working through making the change. Over a 2 month period, contacted Life Time multiple times asking for the correction - Never received a response. When I contact again today, was told I would need to increase my membership/monthly fee to have access to the club I had been a member of for over 25 years. So, what I get from all of this is that they are liars and do not provide accurate membership information - only in it for the money. Club is not worth the money.

The yoga classes are useless (and yoga has always been my favorite). The pace is too fast and, again, they follow an in-house script.
When Covid numbers were at a peak, the instructor had us do an exercise that requires breathing out as hard and fast as possible (breath of fire). In a packed setting. I held a towel over my face for that one. The people who run it can't think on their own; if there's a fire drill and members are outside in towels in 40 degree weather, they only open the entrance doors to let us back in. If they had opened the exit doors as well, we could have gone in more quickly. But they would have to have gone off-script.
They have large screens in the front of the studio and even though the Zumba classes are packed, and visual access to the instructor is severely limited, they won't use technology to have the instructor on the monitors. And now they just told us it will cost an extra $150/month for pickleball (we are getting our membership paid for through Medicare Advantage). Pickleball had been included. That's quite a steep price to hit us with. I feel like it's cult-like and prefer smaller, more intimate gyms that offer the instructors more leeway and creativity.

My 8-year-old son and I were taking a shower in the family room at Life Time Fitness around 7pm and were traumatized by a male security who was a former police officer, loudly knocked on our glass shower door while we fully naked and aggressively told us that I was not supposed to be in there. I replied that my son was in the shower with me. He then waited for us to come out and entered the bathroom to explain why he banged on the door. I tried to accept his apology but later realized that if he was listening at the shower door, he would have heard me and my son talking.
The next day my husband called GM to explain happened and he asked me if the security touched us and because he did not touch us, there was no grounds for termination. Then I asked if I should cancel my $400-a-month membership. He replied "what's my member number". I told him that we were coming to speak to him in person. When we arrived he was introducing himself to another member in front of me but he realized I was the person, he told me to make an appointment to speak to him. I was outraged.
We no longer feel comfortable with this business because of the disregard for women and children. I feel when he saw an ** woman and a ** Man that he disregard our membership to the gym. There was no de-escalation process knowing we were upset and needed an explanation or apology for what happened. After speaking with corporate office, they denied the the security banged on the door and that we disrespected the front office. #karens

I was charged fraudulently for 12 months from this gym conglomerate. I tried explaining to customer service that I went in and cancelled my membership and one of their employees kept it opened and just changed it. I never returned after I cancelled. But yet I was charged every month for a year. Please be careful. These big gyms are massive and will take your money and not return it because they feel like a signature is the end all be all. I’m a hard working woman. I paid every month I attended. When I canceled I never returned and they tell me, "We don’t see a signature so we can’t do anything about the money already taken." Not even a comp to the gym! I’m forever a disgruntled customer because they handled me so poorly. $1000 dollars I paid to them for a year and they have no decency or compassion. I spoke to management and all he can offer was one massage and a training session. I am extremely sad that He told me that lifetime does not negotiate. I was shocked to hear that. I was simply looking for what was promised to me. I was treated as if I was only there for a few months. I was promised that by keeping my membership on hold throughout COVID will stop any upcoming increases upon my return and it was a total lie! Anyway the show must go on!!! Equinox here I come. :) It’s better as far as being a very clean gym.

All along assuring me it would be fixed. It never was & I ended up having to completely cancel it eventually losing all of my pre-paid services which is the very thing I was trying to avoid in the first place. Currently Lifetime is withholding my refund of significant money due to this improperly handled medical freeze & now I’m being completely ignored by their corporate office & it’s causing me serious financial hardship. They are ignoring my doctor & his note as well. I really trusted this brand & never expected to be scammed or taken advantage of as a permanently disabled person like this. Do not send your kids to Life Time Summer camp. My 5 years old was left without lunch and Hydration more than once. She was forced to eat lunch on the floor of the dirty basketball court. She was left in the basketball court in her wet swimsuit shivering for almost an hour and they didn't bother to give her a towel or help her dry out. The staff are young kids and they trained by life time to lie and deceive you. Don't send your kids there!

A have many invisible disabilities. Was discriminated since the start. I was told I cannot use the handicap bathrooms in the family dressing area as my wife was my caretaker. When I recorded an employee incriminating herself of what was being said and done about me all management could do is call me a lawbreaker (which isn't in AZ) and made me delete it and then proceeded to get corporate to cancel my membership. All I was trying to do is find out why the people acted the way they did towards me. I was told that my wife cannot be my caretaker even though my insurance says she can. It was obvious I was being judged even though I gave one PT guy my medical records to show what a miracle I was doing what I was doing.
They are money and power hungry snakes!!! I could not believe what management did. He said I got angry and cursed the company. Well I do have a adrenaline problem that they are looking for tumors in but I never got angry. Just got up and said that he didn't care about anything I was saying. Only that I needed to delete the conversation. So I told him I prayed that God would judge those that judged me wrong so they kicked me out. I cant wait to see what God does to this company. He never fails me!
One thing I am not is a liar or cheat yet they treated me like that daily! Lied to many times by them! In the end God has the last word. If I'm a liar and not disabled then the judgments come on me but if they judged me unrighteously then may I have authority over them and never them over me. So sad as it was my only source to have a hot tub and pool which I need for my disease. May God be the judge!

Recently received an email telling up that they are raising our monthly rate when we were told, when we signed up, that we will be grandfathered in at that rate. When I called the company to ask what is going on, he gave us a bull- answer that they are raising prices to "keep up with the competition" and maintenance of the facility and that they don't grandfather people in. So, what I get from all of this is that they are liars and are only in it for the money. Also, the man that helped me claimed to have sent an email to his manager regarding my complaint and "claimed" he CCed me to the email (as I requested). I am yet to receive a copy of that email or a call back from the company. Don't waste your money.

Lifetime is not upfront with members, and membership fee increases. We joined in 2019 as a Founding Member with a couple's membership. The fee was $233.52 (includes tax). In July, I was diagnosed with cancer and had a major operation followed by aggressive chemo. I called LIFETIME. Asked what my options were, and they said they could freeze my membership and keep my husband active. As soon as I was finished with treatment in 2020, the Covid pandemic closed all gyms. We were vaccinated and ready to go back to the gym in September 2020. Our membership fee was charged at the beginning of the month for $252.59!
I called the corporate office to inquire about the $41.49 increase per month. I spoke with Andrew in circles, and he was not CLEAR why my membership jumped in price. He did say he could bring it down a little- remove the magazine prescription (I never subscribed or agreed to) and could credit me $25.00. My membership fee would be $244 a month going forward. DON'T TRUST LIFETIME with your credit card. Most people do not look at their automatic credit card charges, which is EXACTLY what LIFETIME wants as a member.

I have been a member since 2008. On several occasions I have tried to cancel my membership for various reasons, life changes, loss of job, lack of use etc. This club (pre-COVID) requires you to physically go into a location to cancel. This is so that they can pressure you into keeping your membership face to face by offering holds etc. I have taken them up on those offers a few times in hopes of recovering and being able to resume my membership.
In October or September of 2021 I contacted the club that I was a member at and let them know that I was not interested in keeping my membership any longer and that I would not be going into a facility due to COVID restrictions and out of concern for my own health and safety. Once again they were extremely willing to help and offered to put my membership on hold due to the COVID issues. I took them up on their offer again because I was hoping things would get back to normal eventually. On that phone call they told me that they understood the uncertainness and that they were handling all concerns via phone.
Unfortunately, things have not gotten back to normal yet and even further I have lost my employment due to COVID since then. I noticed my membership resumed on February 1, 2021 when a charge was made to my card thus jogging my memory that this was still in place and had resumed. I then called on 2/28/2021 to cancel the membership and was told that the membership would be cancelled. I clarified that my bank account would not be charged again due to the cancellation and they stated that it WOULD be because they require a 30 day notice. I let them know that was unacceptable as I had tried to cancel months ago but was offered a no-charge hold and that I was revoking authorization for any further charges.
The gentleman told me he did not have the power to refund or change anything but transferred me to the "corporate member relations" department to discuss options further. The voice mail system stated that they were returning phone calls due to reduced people in the office because of COVID restrictions. I left a voicemail explaining my situation and also stated I was revoking authorization for any charges to my bank account.
I then noticed a charge had gone through on 3/1/2021, understanding that the charge might not have been stopped due to systems timing, which I completely understood, I called the corporate member relations department on 3/4/2021 as I had not received a call back and asked for a refund. I was connected with a VERY rude, unempathetic and unhelpful individual with this department who NOT only refused to issue a refund but then ALSO let me know that my membership was NOT cancelled because I didn't fill out some sort of link or go into the club to cancel.
I explained to her that no one said anything about a link nor was I told I needed to go into a club when I called. She then told me she would send me the link but then quickly stated that the membership would terminate 30 days from the date of the form being completed. Convenient now that it's 4 days into the new month and 4 days past the monthly fee. I let her know that was unacceptable because the person I spoke to on the 28th made no mention of this and she basically said "too bad". I am appalled by these practices and feel they are unethical and designed to psychologically trap people. COVID has caused many issues people were not prepared for and I would think that a club that charges quite a bit for its membership would be willing to be a little more courteous to its members.

My family and I have been members of the Bridgewater NJ facility for over a year. Obviously, the virus hit and they were forced to suspend business. On August 28, 2020 we submitted a hold as per their instructions, as the government had approved reopening and I have a chronic respiratory issue, and did not feel it would be prudent. After reviewing our credit cards it turns out they never stop charging us. While I foolishly did not monitor our credit card better, their contention is that even they were informed of our suspension status they could not refund the money as it was over thirty days.

The stupid policy this place created in response to Covid is asinine. There is already ridiculous policy concerning swimming kids and adult feet having to be in the water even though the kids can swim perfect not to mention they can stand up in the water. Now though I get harassed for not wearing a mask even though I don’t have to wear a mask while I workout. Originally I was told I just had to wear a mask to come in but I could go put it in a locker to workout. They have now made it so I have to wear a mask even in between changing machines which is stupid. What do I do with a mask in between? Put it on the floor? Contaminate it that’s a guarantee.
I stated to the GM I don’t wear a mask for health reasons and he told me I could end my membership or my other option is a face shield. Are you kidding me, a face shield? How about you close your doors if you're really concerned. Oh wait you don’t want to do that because you’d lose too much money. How about you just let me workout and not worry about what I’m doing. If I’m sick I can promise you I won’t be going to the gym. Most people are not wearing mask by the way while they workout. This is literally an example of wear a mask except when you don’t. Stupid.

After refuting in person at the gym, and even calling the manager at the Lifetime HQ, they all gave me the same response: "You should have looked out for a confirmation email," and "If I were you, I would have found out the next month by looking at my bank statements."
The Lifetime associates never informed me of such an email that needs to be received, and they were extremely rude. Overnight manager Jose ** called police to remove us from the facility. It began with an emotional phone call I was having in the near empty locker room at 11:30pm. Attendant Lily overheard the entire conversation and actually saw me crying. Despite my obvious distress, after the conversation was over Lily decided to approach me just to say that there is no yelling allowed in the women's locker room. This was very insensitive and really unnecessary. The locker room is empty now. The call ended. Leave me alone.
During this time, my boyfriend was being approached by Jose in the men's locker room. Although he had no knowledge and no responsibility for what was occurring next door, Jose decided to inform him that I was yelling in the locker room and that if it continued he would kick us both out! So, upset at the way things were being handled by staff, I went to Jose to clear things up. Since staff was making such a big fuss over my tone of voice in the locker room, I wanted a physical copy of Lifetime's policy. His exact response to me was "I don't have time to print it for you." That is the most unprofessional and derogatory response I had ever received from a "manager". The conversation continued with us questioning him on why he decided to handle this minor incident in this way. He stood with his hands in his pockets and looking at his phone from time to time. He never apologized for the misunderstanding.
The conversation was not going anywhere and no care or concern was being shown. No solution was being brought up, and Jose made no effort at all to diffuse the situation to ensure I left on a positive note. That is what his role as a manager is to do! As I became increasingly frustrated and upset with his demeanor I asked him how he was planning to service us as members and conclude this incident. He gave me a dumbfounded look, shrugged and said that he would do nothing. I promise you I am not making this up at all. We were both completely floored that we were actually speaking to a manager at Lifetime.
Finally, with plans to reach out to higher management, I asked for his first and last name in which he told us he did not have to and would not provide us (although managers last names are made readily available to members). At this point my boyfriend and I knew he was purposely escalating the situation. Any reasonable person would become angry with how they are being treated and spoken to in the lobby of a facility in which they are members who pay $280 a month. When Jose began to notice how angry I was getting, rather than work harder to come to a resolution he called police to have us forcibly removed from the club!
We were treated like trespassers and criminals and forced to leave in a hurry. It never, ever, should have amounted to that and if they didn't have someone as disgusting, despicable, incompetent and arrogant as Jose ** it never would have. The way the situation was handled from start to finish was completely unacceptable and completely unforgivable.

Thank you once again for the generous opportunity to experience the Ajax Lifetime Facility from Nov.28-29th, 2019. I took full advantage of your facility. Over the course of three days, I used your pool twice for my laps and was impressed by the swim staff. The complimentary pilates session with Cristian was a delight having stretched fascial muscles that I didn’t know existed. Kelley’s Surrender meditative yin-yoga with extended poses strengthened and stretched my muscles. Her calm voice made the hour seem like minutes. Andrea’s barbell strength class worked every muscle as she reinforced and motived me to go further. Ana’s tabata’s class of high intensity had high expectations for every muscle group and I rose to meet them, thanks to her encouragement and modifications.
Finally, Kimmel’s SOL yoga class was the icing on the cake of power yoga woven with ashtanga vinyasa. Her mesmerizing voice pushed my body to the max. Kimmel exudes an energy that few instructors display. Almost like a Sei He Ki feeling where mental/emotional/physical energy flows from the practice. I did try a couple of the weight machines, but was concerned my form wasn’t accurate and did not know what the electronic indicators meant. However, if I had asked a staff member I’m sure I would have been given direction.
Overall, I was truly impressed with my three days. The only disadvantage to the the entire experience was my commute to the club, taking me 90 minutes round trip from home to club and back with clear roads and good weather. I will be joining Ajax Lifetime, once my existing membership with another fitness facility expires, when I’m back in the country and when weather conditions improve to ensure a safe commute. I will eventually be there sweating, with the rest of your members.
Finally, thank you Dillon (Account Manager) for your kindness. As mentioned in our initial on boarding tour, I was impressed with your knowledge, your passions for my well being, your energy and your time. Never did I feel you were selling a “facility product”, but rather a “wellness solution”. All the best as you continue to making a difference in people’s lives.

I would give 0 stars if I could. Very disappointed with this gym. I switched to this gym because it was closer to my home and "provided" activities for children. What a joke that was. The ballet for my daughter was an overfilled room with kids holding onto a table because there was no ballet bar to use. In order to drop off my daughter who is a member, my wife had to join and pay 105.00 to bring her to class for 45 mins. My wife just had a baby so she's unable to workout and they asked for a doctor's note. Seriously? I normally drive my daughter and I'm a member and I have 2 guest passes per month but they still said she had to join.
If we had known that we would've skipped the class the week I was traveling. Knowing all that they still said we can't do anything and the account will be charged the 105.00 for 45 mins. I ended up canceling our entire family membership and they were fine with that. From a CEO of a company this is entirely the wrong attitude when it comes to customer service. Stay as far away from this place as possible.

I never realized you need to give them a 30 day notice. I guess technically it's been 72 days, yet they keep charging me and unwilling to fix the problem. Also they added on a magazine charge which I was unaware of. They also started to raise the price on me. Never notified me or explained why. The cost increase by 11 dollars which is not that much, but it is the principal of the thing. Think twice before getting a membership at Life Time Fitness!!

You shouldn't have a problem cancelling with these guys if you're local and changing gyms, but if you have an life event and move away, sell your home, have an injury, you may be on a hook for a few extra months because simply calling or emailing, letting them know that you won't be needing a membership isn't enough. After being derailed by life occurrences recently, I attempted to cancel my membership by phone, to no avail. They urged that I come in, which was impossible at the time. Further, after a series of emails, sending sign statements, none of it was good enough. Ultimately I had to send certified mail. However, since we were in the first couple of days in the new month, I was on the hook for paying an additional $300. You'd think paying about 4k a year for a gym membership, they'd eventually want you back...

Total negative attitude comes from the 20-somethings that run this business. Pathetic excuses for cancelling membership (write and MAIL letter..), to the usual clubs under constant construction and closed amenities without any regard to credit to members. Don't waste your money here - use a local, smaller gym that cares about its customers.

Lifetime Fitness (Athletic) is an absolutely terrible club to join from the following aspect. It is the only major fitness club that bans members or guests from exercising / working out with family members or friends and giving any tips, demonstration, discussion or advice on exercising, stretching, wellness or nutrition. This means if you want to show your kid, family member, friend, etc. a more efficient swim stroke, stretching exercise or basketball move, you are taking a huge risk. Your membership can be cancelled at any time at the sole discretion of a Lifetime employee or camera that might be watching you. That’s right! Volunteering your time (no compensation) or skill to help loved ones or friends can deep-six your Lifetime membership in a hurry.
You see, their personal trainers make up to $100/hour to train members. Ouch! Can we all say cha- ching? And as a privately held company, with nobody to govern or oversee their 20 plus pages of extremely strict club rules, Lifetime wields the ultimate authority to keep their members in line. So, if you like to work out with family or your buds and share thoughts, tips or advice about anything fitness, wellness or nutrition related, think twice about joining Lifetime Fitness (Athletic). And if you don’t want Big Brother watching you at all times with their multitude of cameras and staff, this is another reason to think twice about joining Lifetime.
I have included Lifetime’s rules below regarding no personal advice or demonstration by members or guests at any time. It’s pretty brutal. No other fitness club has rules anywhere close to this strict. Definitely not what Lifetime should be proud of. And, definitely a rule that should be amended to not punish members or guests for helping someone in need of complimentary advice or a tip. Come on Lifetime… you can do much better.
• Training Services. Our personal training services include instruction, coaching, advice, lessons or demonstration concerning physical exercise, physical fitness, exercise strategies, nutrition, wellness, fitness products, fitness equipment and other fitness-related activities by personal trainers, nutrition coaches, teaching pros or other instructors ("personal training"). Personal training services are available to members, typically for a fee per session, upon completion of a Fitness Program Agreement.
• No Personal Training by Members or Guests. You may not solicit or conduct on the premises any personal training as defined above, with or without compensation. Life Time retains sole discretion to determine whether a member or guest is engaged in personal training.

If you're looking for a new health club, I would definitely recommend staying away from LifeTime Fitness. Not a clean facility. Wait times to use most of the equipment. They also closed without any notice on several days which ended up canceling my workout for the day. The process to end your membership is as complicated and time consuming as possible in hopes that you won't do it and continue letting them bill you. The unforgivable thing though: they are holding my credit card hostage and charging me for an extra month of membership just to get a few extra bucks out of me.

I was a member here since 2009. The membership department in Westminster Colorado advised me to write a letter in January 2019 to cancel my membership, WHICH I DID. They continued to bill me for 2 months after the cancellation and 2 months after I called them to ask why they were trying to charge my credit card again they claimed that they never got the letter. Found out from one of their ex-employees that this is a common practice. I have paid over $3,000.00 in unused membership months, and apparently now they are broke so they keep calling my home phone (my renters advised me). Anyone interested in filing a Class Action Lawsuit against them for unethical consumer practices, please message me. They have been getting away with this for years. Can't wait to see them in court with a lineup of their former employees exposing these tactics.

Each time we show up to find pool closed, we ask why, and we’re told different answers about the hours of pool operation and kids’ pool / outdoor pool / outdoor slides hours. After being misinformed so many times, we were told the front desk now has a copy of pool hours and would give correct advice each time. So what happened today? Once again they said outdoor pool and slides open until 6 pm. We tried to go at 5 and were told “oh, no. Slides close at 5”. “And, outdoor pool is closed now.” “Why?” “Because of weather.” There is no rain. No lightning. No thunder. We asked why was this not “weather permitting??” “It’s too cold.” “It’s 74 degrees right now, and the pool is heated to 84. That’s not too cold.”
We asked a manager, who tried to reach the pool manager, but he had already gone home. She reached a lifeguard who said “well, there was wind.” Really? There’s wind here all the time. I asked if they could open it back up since it was not yet 6 (or bad weather) and was told no - only the manager who had already gone home can do that. Plus, the outdoor lifeguards all went home early today when they decided to close it early.
This might not be so bad if it was the first time this happened. But it’s not. So far, we joined about 2 and a half weeks ago and my son has never been able to use the slide because the gym keeps giving misinformation about whether or when it will be open, and then when we come during what should be open hours for the outdoor pool and slide, we’re greeted with misinformation that prevents him from using it. (Including just a few days ago when told he had to pass a 25 meter swim test but they didn’t think he could so they wouldn’t let him slide.)
Well, tonight, on our way to the outdoor pool, we had an indoor instructor test him and he passed just fine. She told us “but you don’t need this to use the slide. The swim test is to get a yellow band to use the pool unsupervised. He could have used the slide the other day. We know, there are lifeguards that give out the wrong information.” ??? Why? How hard is it to publish the pool and slide hours and rules and then stick with them and train staff on what they are so they can properly advise members???

This company is as crooked as they come. I had a membership with them through my former employer, but once I changed jobs I stopped going there. Obviously, I assumed my former employer would stop paying the monthly membership and they would close out the account. This is always how it has worked for me in the past with other gyms, and I’ve never had a problem. Now nine months later, Life Time Fitness is coming after me for a past due balance. It turns out my former employer just last month stopped paying for my membership, but Life Time would not let them close my account.
They would not let me cancel my membership over the phone either, so I came into their Carrollton location a few hours after receiving their email to officially close my account and clear up the confusion about the balance. Not only could they not have cared less about the mix up, but they told me I had to give a 30 day notice for my membership cancellation, which means I will also be responsible for April’s payment as well! Even though they just got 9 months of membership dues from my old employer for free, they now want to charge me for another 2 months!! So now, I can pay them close to $200 or, they will sell my account to a collections company which will damage my credit. How is this not extortion?? Life Time doesn’t care who they hurt, if they can get a couple extra $$ in return.

Prejudice Very much so! I signed up with Joe and I told him the situation on how I am leaving for Nevada March 4th. I know there is only one in Summerlin and I have no car and am nowhere near it so therefore I want to only signed up for the month! Everyone was so nice to me in the beginning and now that I want to cancel I am being treated like trash! This facility. Is money hungry I was clearly TOLD CANCEL BEFORE THE NEXT BILLING CYCLE SO YOU ARENT CHARGED. Idc what was in the contract because Joe read me the contract. He said I didn’t have to read it! I basically told him I need to cancel so I won’t be charged after March 4.
Apparently you have to cancel 30 days prior and I was never told that!!! And all the workers and corporate are telling me I am wrong and I heard wrong and they are blaming me and not themselves! Dana is a very rude stuck up women who wouldn’t even look at me when I was speaking. I even explained to her Joe never told me 30 days. He said next billing cycle and she said “he isn’t wrong. He technically could cancel anytime but be charged for the remainder.” But I’m like, "No. I clearly told him I don’t wanna be charged after March 4!" So therefore They used and scammed me because I am young and dumb! They used this as an advantage to take advantage of me this my first time signing up for a gym alone! Joe told me don’t worry you don’t need to read it I will and I asked him many times on when I have to cancel I was told by March 1 or 4th whatever the next billing statement is.
The gym was pretty and clean and I was reconsidering on coming back and signing up in the summer but after this no way! They are such a money hungry company they don’t care about their customers they just want their money because if it was anywhere else they would solve the issue speak with the worker and the client and they couldn’t care less as if they do this on a daily basis. And Dana is so rude. I’m sorry you lost 60 dollars so condescending and fake like I’m poor!
No it’s not the money it’s the fact I was scammed and I don’t care about the contract! Because I trusted someone else’s word more than a written contract I asked him multiple times if I’m good and he said yes if it was elsewhere they would have compensated someone or at least took their word. Not to mention I purchased a few boxing packages and a massage and got food here. We are giving you business. The customer is always wrong here. I do not care about the contract due to the fact Joe said, "No need I’ll read it for you." So I consider me a young adult who is naive I listened.

One would think that for over $100 per monthly, problems would be minimized for you. Sadly, you would be mistaken. Here are problems I observed during weekdays, from 10:00 to noon. I don't know what happens at other times. My free training hour from joining was horrible... I would have paid more not to have it. Preschool kids are all over and often unsupervised, running and screaming while their mothers use cell phones. Members often leave soiled towels all over the locker room and trash in lockers. There is continual, extremely loud music on the workout floor, worsened by trainers using portable sound systems.
Member complaints? Management responds in writing, but does nothing about problems. Members "own" multiple machines with towels that others want to use. Management does nothing about it. Children defecate in the pool... and there's frequent PH testing, so there may be plenty of urine too. Employee turnover is ridiculous. Most workers don't last one year due to poor pay and hostile management. There are occasional locker room thefts. It's unwise to leave wallets and cell phones in lockers. Cars are occasionally burglarized in the parking lot. Most members don't wipe down equipment after use. There was a serious fire on the roof in 2018... multiple areas were shut down. The products displayed and sold are greatly overpriced. "Life Time Bucks" are a joke that expire and can't be earned again.

The fees you save to join at $179 a month are only recouped when you have no choice but give a 30 day notice and forced to pay one more month. Once you enter the facility of smiling polite, nice personnel be forewarned that is as far as the professionalism goes. Incompetence, distant and the caring stops at the face smile of all who work here not to mention the inexperience for the money you pay. I have been members of the best gyms so I compare and was very disappointed the entire first two weeks.
When I complained all verbal promises were not documented and forgotten. However, I document with emails and they confirmed that the promise of free month was all in my mind. The survey send to ask why I left seemed to be a slight keepsake of previous interest at building a better business that does not exist with these new or old owners. Her tone is cold and arrogant. The only thing she said is she can't do it and it is up to the local office. She would ask local office to call me but she never asked my name/membership ID. Yesterday the woman in local office said I had to call the corporate since it is corporate policy.
Original Review: The staff there are terrible. A bunch of trainers/agents standing there doing nothing and wouldn't help to hang up a punch bag for me (the punch bag usually hang up but sometimes it was down). And they gave all kinds of ridiculous excuses. I talked to the manager twice and the staff all said yes to his face then did opposite behind his back. I cancelled my membership immediately. Well December comes and I'm still being charged the same rate. I called to ask why my December is still being charged the same amount. Life Time says they have no record of me canceling. So basically I had to pay again the full amount for December and pro-rated charge for January. You would think you pay this much a gym that the customer service would be better and the people working there know how to do their job.
The funny thing is when I signed up initially I had a referral and had to call and email for 2 weeks for my referral to get her Life Time points. They love to bill the hell out of you and offer you zero customer service. Make sure you get everything in writing and follow up. Terrible customer service. The worst part is reading other Yelp reviews. The same thing has happened to so many other customers trying to cancel their membership. I was a Charter member at the Houston Willowbrook location for the first 6 years. I cancelled my membership because the entire management and staff turned over, and the facilities and offerings started to decline. About 2 years later I got married and signed up again. The facilities continued to get worse, and parts of the gym were always under lengthy repair, and not available.
I went rock climb on Halloween, and they had the wall closed, but never posted it. I had a buddy that drove several hours to climb with me for the first time, and we couldn't climb. We were walking out when someone came running up to me yelling that we couldn't use the wall. I told him it was obvious because they had closed the wall, but never posted it. He continued to bow up to me and threaten me and said there were signs everywhere, which was not true. I called corporate and filed a complaint against him, and it turns out he was the manager, and they banned me for life.
About 1.5 years later they called me and asked me to come back, because the manager was gone. They had promoted him to district manager. At least he wasn't there so I continues to use the facilities. It has never been the same and I really don't like going any more. I moved about 75 miles away, and tried to cancel my membership over the phone, but they won't let you. You have to show up in person.
I drove the 150-mile round trip to the gym to cancel my membership on Halloween. They told me it would be another 30 days before it cancelled and I signed a document. I was billed again in December, and drove down again to get a refund. They told me that I never signed anything. They had record of me coming in to cancel, but they didn't cancel my membership. No one was available to talk with me because they were all in a "meeting." I asked the girl at the front desk for the Corporate Office Customer Relations. I told them what happened and they told me that I never signed their document. I asked them how much sense it made for me to drive 3 hours to cancel my membership, and then not cancel it. I got transferred and hung up on 6X by Corporate "customer relations" and they told me they would not refund my $80 membership fee that had just been withdrawn.
Life Time Fitness is the absolute worst when it comes to taking care of their members, and listening to their concerns. I made friends with a lot of the original employees and they all had quit because of how corporate became, and how there was no longer any real customer relations. I will NEVER step foot in another Life Time facility, and will NEVER, EVER recommend that anyone signs up. Good luck to any of you who try to cancel your memberships.

There is no way that as a consumer they are not able to cancel your membership in person, over the phone or online. They muscled me into placing my account on hold months back when I wanted to cancel. I told them discontinue it last month and they would not do it because they want me to come in and sign that I want it closed. Docusign should be an option for consumers instead of the salesmen that try and keep you obligated. I was told that I can mail a letter saying to cancel my membership. That is so ridiculous. I have not been to this gym since May but, they are trying to charge me $200.00 per month. I closed the account at my bank since they want to charge for services that I do not get. This is deceptive practices.

My doctor took cultures and verified tons of crazy bacteria growing in the dish. I have missed work and spent much time in the doctor's offices trying to clear this up. I stopped by and talked to one of the managers on 9/6/18. I was promised follow up calls from managers and even the GM. NOTHING AS OF TODAY!!! We pay over $200 a month for a family membership. I was a member for 2 years and everything was great. Was injured and had to cancel membership. They tried to get me to put it on hold but I refused and said I need it cancelled. Went through this conversation several times of me cancelling, them trying to put account on hold, and finally them saying they'll cancel it only to have keep calling later on saying my membership is past due. I finally called the Better Business Bureau to get it cancelled but they are still trying to get me to pay for months after I quit. Luckily after I paid the first extra month I cancelled my credit card so they couldn't keep charging me. I will never recommend Life Time Fitness to anybody. Not even an enemy.

I cancelled my membership four years ago. The rep asked if I wanted to just freeze my rate until I was able to return to the gym. He told me it would be around $12 per month and I could quit at any time if I didn't want to keep the "freeze status". I continued to leave it in a 'freeze mode' for the next four years. When my credit card changed, I didn't resubmit my new number as I had wanted to go ahead and cancel it. I received a notice from them via email and told them I wish to cancel but would pay that month. That was not good enough for them.
Funny how they can communicate to me via email, but they are saying I am not allowed to. Nowhere in the new freeze mode contract did it say I have to go in person or send a certified letter. I made multiple attempts to cancel via the rep that called me. I have been harassed daily by this organization. I had an attorney look at what they sent me and he said it was bogus and they could absolutely cancel over the phone or via email. After all, email is in writing. I warn anyone looking to join to carefully review and understand that they are basically a collections agency. I would never recommend joining their gym.

Our family joined the club 2017 and in December we needed to cancel our membership due to unforeseen circumstances. First they said I had to come in the only way, then I heard I could send a certified letter which I did. Almost immediately I started receiving emails saying we were delinquent and owed almost $900. I was beside myself. I responded to Corp Steven ** and finally paid for an additional month due to the way they charge. They automatic start charging for personal training when you fall for that scam.
I still have an outstanding balance of over $500. Long story short he could not help get back my personal training money. The branch ignores you. The personal training ignores you. Corporate can’t help. It’s all a scam. I am looking for anyone interested in getting a class action suit started. There has got to be a way of getting back your money that you paid for services you never received. Oh and they will tell you because you got it at a discounted price! Lol

The staff at Franklin, TN are awesome and it's a brand new gym. Very clean.

They are rip-offs. Points expire without warning after making you jump through hoops to get them in the first place, don't reinstate them when they do expire. Why do towels pile up in the locker room and no wipes to wipe the machines down? Maybe staff should stop flirting with each other and focus on their jobs!

After a relationship of approximately 20 years, I find that the service provided for the continually increasing fees (120 per year increase each of the last two years) is not worth the experience. Over the last year, I’ve noticed and had to point out the following: 1. Massive mold breach on the ceiling of the shower area (shower hallway) – Sterling/Loudoun, VA. 2. Sticky substance on equipment (remained there for over 2 weeks) – Sterling/Loudoun, VA. 3. Employee/Trainer inappropriate, rudeness – See manager at Reson, VA.
In addition the what I’ve pointed out, the following are also representative of a degraded experience: 1. Razor blades, gum, towels and the like in shower stalls, Sterling, VA. 2. Clocks continually out of sync in workout area (3 clocks all with times 10+ min’s apart), Sterling and Reston, VA. 3. Overly loud “aerobic area” music playing (for some sort of class) in the evenings, Sterling, VA. 4. Reduced offering of video service on aerobic equipment (channels dropped), Sterling and Reston, VA. It seems to me that reducing the experience AND increasing fees ($120 per year for each of the last two years) is not commensurate with a desire to retain customers.
I contacted the “Customer Relations” number to discuss and mostly all I received was what appeared to be someone stating policy: That I can cancel, but will be paying for one additional month of service for the cancellation to take place, and that “Life Time reserves the right to increase fees from time to time”. Whereas I would like to continue our relationship, I honestly refuse to do so with the current situation of experience being degraded and fees going up.
