What is Hims?

Hims started in 2017 as a telehealth company focused on making men's health and wellness more accessible. It offers a variety of services, including treatments for mental health, sexual health, hair loss, weight loss and skin care.

Hims expanded its offerings in 2018 to include the Hers brand, catering to women's health needs as well.

How does Hims work?

Hims operates through a simple and convenient online platform requiring no in-office visits to receive treatments. Customers start by visiting the Hims website, where they can browse various health treatments.

To receive a prescription, users complete an online consultation with a licensed health care provider who assesses their health needs. Once the consultation is complete and a prescription is approved, Hims fills it and ships the medication directly to the customer's home.

Continuing care with Hims is reportedly easy. Customers can manage their subscriptions, reorder medications and consult with providers through their online account. Membership options are available for those who prefer a recurring delivery of their treatments. If customers wish to cancel, they can do so through their online account without any lengthy contract terms. This must be done at least two days before the subscription renewal date.

Hims weight loss medications

Hims offers several weight loss medications to help men manage their weight effectively. These medications include injections as well as oral medications such as:

  • GLP-1 injections and pills
    • Ozempic
    • Wegovy
    • Compounded semaglutide
  • Bupropion
  • Metformin
  • Topiramate

Hims cost

The cost of Hims services varies depending on the treatment and subscription plan chosen.

Weight loss medications start at $79/month for the custom pill form kits, with injections starting at $199/month, depending on the specific prescription and dosage. Hims also offers one-time or month-to-month payment options, but these won’t provide the cost savings that the subscription plans offer.

For the most accurate pricing, customers can visit the Hims website or contact customer service directly.

Is Hims legit?

Yes, Hims is a legitimate and reputable company. It was founded in 2017 and has served thousands of customers since its inception. Hims employs licensed health care providers to ensure the quality and safety of its prescriptions.

Terrible company, I have sent a dozen emails to correct something, only responses are useless ones from bots. Can't even get through to cancel the account. Do not sign up with these scammers! Zero stars!

Hims ruined my life. Sexual dysfunction, blacking out after 2 beers. Stay away from this garbage company. $300 later and I’m pouring their pills down the drain because they don’t offer refunds. Go to an actual doctor, do not waste your time here.

I am a customer in my 60s and tried this subscription hair-loss service for a short period. The product did not work for me, so I cancelled my subscription in October and believed it was fully terminated.

On January 27, I received a text stating a renewal order was about to be processed. I immediately logged in and cancelled again before shipment occurred. The order status at that time showed the package was still in the company’s warehouse and had not yet been picked up by USPS.

Despite cancelling before shipment, the company still charged my credit card. I contacted customer service right away and requested both a refund and that the order be pulled before shipping. They refused. Only after I complained further did they release the package for shipment — but they still denied any refund and would not accept a return, even if unopened. My concerns are about the process, not just the product:

      * Cancellation did not reliably stop renewal billing
      * Charges were processed after cancellation attempts
      * The company would not intercept an unshipped order
      * No grace-period refund window was offered

      * Returns were refused even for unopened product

Consumers should also be aware that the company is currently under FTC investigation regarding its auto-renewal, cancellation, and refund policies and practices.

In my experience, these subscription and renewal procedures are not consumer-friendly and place customers at a disadvantage — especially older consumers who rely on cancellation confirmations and order status information.

I have filed complaints with my card issuer, the BBB, my state consumer office, and federal regulators. I encourage others to read the renewal and cancellation terms very carefully before subscribing.

1 month and several calls and emails with Hims and I'm still waiting on my order to even be started! Very poor service, they claim is the result of switching to a new pharmacy called Strive.

Just like the other reviews state. Was charged all the money up front without being able to verify it was actually going to work. Then the no refund policy, which is vague at best. 3 months into the “testosterone treatment” and it’s not working, having even worse symptoms. The labs showed that my estrogen levels had escalated so much that it was cancelling out any T gains. When asked about it they tried to push a higher dose but that would only push more estrogen. When I confronted them about it they mentioned the treatment wasn’t right for me…. When I asked about a refund they said no refunds. So basically out $900 for worse symptoms. Do yourself a favor and just get injections and skip the headache.

I was sent the pills for hair growth and started taking them as instructed. Shortly after, I began experiencing one of the first effects they warn you about: rapid shedding. According to them, this is supposed to happen because the “bad” hair is being shed, so new, stronger hair can grow in its place. After about a month of taking the pills, I started having frequent headaches. At first, I didn’t think much of it and assumed it could be caused by stress, long hours on the computer, bad posture, or even a bad move at the gym. However, the headaches continued for several weeks, so I decided to stop taking the pills. After a couple of days, the headaches completely went away and stayed gone for about a week.

To confirm whether the pills were the cause, I started taking them again. Sure enough, the headaches came back, so I stopped the treatment permanently. Around the same time, I received a survey from Hims asking how the treatment was going, whether it was working, and if I was experiencing any side effects. I honestly reported both the shedding and the headaches, and they advised me to stop the treatment immediately. Someone then contacted me regarding my responses and asked if I would like to try the spray instead. I said I would consider it, but only if I did not have to pay again, since I had already paid a significant amount for a five-month supply of the pills.

The next message I received was from a “licensed nurse practitioner” stating that the spray had been prescribed and shipped. I replied immediately, saying that I did not approve the purchase. The next day, I saw a charge on my credit card. I contacted them again, clearly stating that I did not consent to buying another treatment and should not have been charged.

Their response was that since the product had already been shipped, there was nothing they could do. After several back-and-forth messages trying to return the spray, I kept receiving the same response over and over, with no real solution offered. At that point, it became clear that their priority is selling, not the customer. Whether the product works or not doesn’t seem to matter. Whether it causes headaches or other side effects doesn’t seem to matter either. And as for the “licensed nurse practitioner” — how am I supposed to verify that this person is real and not just a customer service or sales representative using a title? Overall, a terrible experience. Be careful — they will do or say whatever they need to do to take your money.

By design their technology does not let you change or cancel a prescription that they write without consulting with you first. They wrote the wrong prescription and then I was unable to cancel it and they charged me over $1,000 which I'm now trying to get refunded. They are hardly responsive and when they are they clearly want to keep my money and not fix it. I thought this would be a simple straightforward experience and it turned out to be horrible mismanaged scam artists.

      Original Review: Dec. 30, 2025

I bought a 6 month supply of Hims for hair growth. The product did not have the results it promised. I did not want to sign up for a recurring subscription. If this was listed, it was in fine print and very deceptive. I got an email stating they were sending the product via my subscription. The item had not been shipped out and I called their customer service within 5 minutes of getting the email. I explained they product did not work and has bad side effects. I also explained that I DID NOT sign up for a subscription and it was very deceptive. The customer service person could care less. I did not click a box or state I wanted to have a recurring subscription. This company is deceptive and dishonest. I filed a chargeback with my Amex. Beware of this way they rip you off!

They will cancel your order without letting you know. Even if you plan a trip with airline & hotel to pick it up. It does not matter to them. Customer service/doctors do not care about you! They don't even read your messages to them.
