What is Byte?

Byte is an invisible braces company that helps correct mild to moderate teeth alignment issues, including crowding, spacing and rotation. Customers take at-home impressions, and Byte’s dentists and orthodontists prescribe and monitor a customized treatment plan.

Byte offers all-day aligners, which need to be worn 22 hours a day.

How much is Byte?

Byte all-day aligners cost $2,199. The price includes a customized treatment plan with a 3D preview of your straightened teeth, aligners, a bottle of BrightByte teeth whitener and a first set of retainers. The Byte impression kit costs $29.95 when you use a promo code; the money is refunded if doctors determine you aren’t a good candidate for treatment.

Byte doesn’t accept direct payment from insurance companies; it does accept payments from health savings accounts (HSAs) and flexible spending accounts (FSAs).

How does Byte work?

  1. Complete the at-home impression kit

    Byte sends you an impression kit with free shipping. The kit includes trays, molding putty, gloves and a stretcher for your mouth. The kit gives you two chances to do top and bottom impressions. If you need help, you can call Byte. Once you’re finished, return the impressions using the provided box and prepaid shipping label.

  2. Await evaluation

    Dentists and orthodontists review your impressions to determine if you are a candidate for Byte aligners. If Byte decides you aren’t, it refunds the cost of the impression kit. If you are a suitable candidate, Byte creates a 3D model of your teeth after treatment and designs a personalized treatment plan.

  3. Select plan

    Once your treatment plan is approved, select the plan that is most convenient for you. Each plan comes with BrightByte whitener and a set of free retainers (post-treatment plan).

    • Personal aligners: You receive a set of clear plastic aligners based on your treatment plan. Aligners are BPA-free and tear-resistant.
    • BrightByte: Use BrightByte foam to whiten your teeth, freshen your breath and clean your aligners. The first bottle is complimentary; additional single bottles cost $30.
  4. Complete treatment plan

    Byte all-day aligners should be worn 22 hours a day. Aligners should only be removed for eating and drinking. Aligners are switched weekly.

    Byte users have access to Byte customer service seven days per week. Progress is monitored with monthly check-ins.

  5. Byte smile is guaranteed for life

    The Byte for Life Guarantee covers additional treatment if your teeth move out of alignment after treatment. To qualify, you must confirm at least once per year that you are wearing the retainers as directed. Byte provides your first set of retainers with your treatment plan.

Will Byte make my teeth fall out?

The use of any invisible aligners is likely to make your teeth feel looser, but will not cause your teeth to fall out. Teeth are connected to your skull and jaw by bone, and the realignment will not cause them to fall out.

How old do you have to be to use Byte?

Byte treats clients 12 and older who have all of their adult teeth. Clients younger than 18 need parental consent.

Who owns Byte?

Byte is owned by Dentsply Sirona, a dental products manufacturer based in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dentsply Sirona acquired Byte at the end of 2020.

Does Byte fix overbite?

Eligibility for Byte treatment is determined on a case-by-case basis. Byte may be able to correct an overbite. The best way to determine if Byte aligners can help is to order an impression kit and send it back to Byte. If you aren’t a candidate, the company refunds the price.

Does Byte hurt?

You may experience some soreness the first few days after starting a new aligner.

    I opted for the night aligners and followed all of the steps as instructed. At one point, after submitting my photos through their app, they informed me that the aligners were not fitting properly. I never received the second set of my aligners and ended up losing my money. Because of that, I cannot recommend them. I would recommend Invisalign through a reputable orthodontist instead.

    This company does not stand by their product and their customer service is horrible. I have been trying to reach them for over a year to get them to replace what THEY determined are ill-fitting retainers. Their strategy is to simply not respond at all. Stay away.

      This is a scam. They take your money and run away with it. Damages teeth and coerce you into signing their waiver so they do not have to help or refund you. Terrible company and a scam. STAY AWAY FROM BYTE! Unless you want to lose thousands and have crowded damaged teeth

      We never received our entire treatment plan. The FDA shut them down. They never made any attempt to fulfill the orders. And in fact, they blamed us! They had us do two sets of impressions then said the impressions weren’t good. Then wanted pictures, we sent the pictures. Then they wanted us to go to the dentist. We sent the dentist notes; then they said the dentist notes weren’t adequate. Finally realized that they were shut down by the FDA. They should have made arrangements to either refund folks for part of their treatment plan if they didn’t get the full thing or have another company fulfill the rest of the orders. I communicated with them many times and they refused to supply the missing aligners (there were 4) or give us a partial refund.

      They don’t talk to you at all. My teeth didn’t even get straight. I’m very disappointed. I will never use Byte again. I wish I would of been better experienced or at least actually talk to someone and not email. I needs to be face to face not an email.

      I would do 0 stars if I could. I paid almost 4k to for them to promise that my teeth will be straight at the end of my treatment. Well I finished all my retainers and noticed my teeth weren’t straight so I asked for more sets because I paid for it. Well I got an email saying I’m not eligible anymore. Mind that they took almost 3 months to even get me my last set because they were in a lawsuit for hygiene neglect in most patients so they told me I had to do see a dentist to make sure my teeth were ok.

      After that I finally got my last set and now they say I’m not eligible for anymore and my teeth aren’t straight. So they are scammers and they will not be just hearing from me but a lawyer. Please please Do NoT use these scammers!! And horrible horrible horrible customer service. Either use iSmile or a dentist. I would not recommend these people to anyone at all. Don’t waste your money because your teeth will probably won’t be straight like they promised. All they do is take your money.

      I cannnot believe that remote orthodontic treatment as this is even legal! We fell for it - it cost a third of what Invisalign would cost and aligners LOOKED the same. So wrong, they are NOT the same at all! Actual orthodontic work requires IN-PERSON evaluation and close monitoring, we learned that the hard way. Not only did it not work, turned out it was never going to work, as my child's teeth were crowded and she needed space for them to move. Noone told us that when we sent in her impressions to Byte. They sent us some trays and sent us on our merry way.

      We were supposed to do "check-ins" with a phone camera, which were extremely difficult and every time something didn't look right, we were told to go back to prior aligner which also did not work. Eventually, we did an orthodontic evaluation in our dentist's office and were told my daughter needed an interproximal reduction (IPR) - basically shaving off part of her teeth enamel so that the teeth have room to move. Byte had sold us something they can never deliver as they obviously don't do that as they never actually see you. So we bit the bullet and paid for Invisalign. She finally had her IPR and received proper care and fitting aligners. Byte of course refused to refund our money, even though they couldn't possibly deliver what they sold. Complete scam

      DON’T USE BYTE!! Worst “customer service” I’ve ever encountered. Took my money, ignored my issues and my teeth are not straight. The closer you get to paying off your balance the less service you receive. They are cheap retainers that break easily too. They don’t get back to your queries for weeks because “they’re short staffed”. Go with Invisalign. They back their product with service from a real dentist.

      Don't even order the impression kit. From the moment you do, their extremely aggressive sales team will start calling, texting, and e-mailing you incessantly. Once I gave in and ordered a full aligners set, that was it, and I was never able to get a hold of anyone for assistance again. Retainers were received with no guidance whatsoever. My account online provided no guidance either. I repeatedly tried calling customer support and e-mailing for help, but no one with Byte would ever respond.

      I would frequently recheck my Byte account online, but nothing changed. I had to wing it, and I think I probably ended up going through the aligners too quickly, resulting in many of them being ruined. Well over a year after first receiving them, I am not happier with my smile than I was when I started. I checked on the site again, and it provided the option to replace some of your aligners (For a hefty fee, of course). I was excited for another chance and ordered replacements for almost half of my aligners. No response from Byte then for 27 days. Once they did, they just stated that my file is outdated and no longer compatible with their current system.

      They said they are unable to process my request for replacement aligners, and that I am no longer eligible for additional treatment. I also like how their staff made sure not to mention their name, simply signed 'Clinical Specialty Team.' I thought I had found a value when I found Byte, but when the end result was right back where I started, I feel screwed. They got their money, and I got nothing from their service. AVOID.

      I did not have a good experience with Byte. I went through the system (2 times), following everything exactly and my teeth did change at all. They were also not willing to help or give a refund. It was a total waste of time and money. I do not recommend using Byte.

      My experience with Byte has been an absolute disaster, primarily due to its abysmal customer service. I've gone through treatment twice and paid for it both times but when it came to getting my final aligners (which are part of the package) the company's support disappeared entirely. My issues began when my top aligner broke and I contacted them needed the final pair. After a number of phone calls, you just get a generic email that gives you the run around. They finally after over 10 times of going through the process of calling and emailing back and forth they asked me to go get another set of xrays (which I did) just to get another email saying they can't help. How when it's the final aligner I was promised? After repeated attempts, they failed to deliver, the company simply stopped started saying 'your case is closed and we cannot help'. Please save your money and save yourself major headaches at the end of your treatment.

      I would give 2.5 if I could. It was absolutely mid of an experience.

      Pros: everything is shipped to you, you can spring for the retainers that are only worn at night, which I did.

      Cons:

      - After completing the treatment, my dentist is incredibly tepid on the result. "It looks better, but I still see several spots where your molars don't line up"

      - This con requires a lengthy explanation. You go through the process, moving from one set of retainers to the next every week, guided by an app. I started with 13 sets for the top teeth, 11 for the bottom teeth. So I was going to finish the bottom alignment two weeks before I finished the top alignment. Fast forward to 11 weeks in. I have forgotten all about how many sets I have for top and bottom teeth. I log in to the app on sunday, when I normally switch to the next set and the app tells me 'hooray you're done!'

      For the next two weeks, wear your retainers 24/7 as the teeth regrow their roots and your retainers are on the way." To my great surprise, when I received my retainers, I couldn't fit the top one on my teeth. I looked back in the box, and of course, there were two more sets of top aligners. So I ended up spending about another five weeks getting my teeth moving again, wearing the 12th and 13th top retainer, and wearing the retainers 24/7 so my teeth could settle in place.

      I wish they would give me a refund! Worst let down ever. I signed up for Byte a while before I got married. This was a few years ago now. Couldn’t bet the price! Honestly, the worst thing is when you think your teeth will be straightened prior to your big day, to slowly realize that isn’t going to happen. I paid the money, and didn’t get the smile I was promised, period. I wore my aligners religiously, did the byte vibrating thing, etc. all the things you’re supposed to do. Communication with this company over my dissatisfaction was almost worse than being disappointed. It was a headache every time.

      Always talking to someone new and having to send an explanation and photos over and over again with no real solution. Eventually I just gave up and realized I would never get my money back, or have straight teeth through byte. I wish they would be more honest about if you’re actually a good fit for this or not. I would also like to point out the fact that they ask for a review before you ever even receive your aligners, should’ve known then. How can you honestly review something you’ve never used?

      Very unprofessional, not happy with the service. I wish I would saved my money and gone with Invisalign. Every time I had an issue I was never helped and pushed back for months on end. Messages like: "I hear your frustration, and I’m truly sorry this has felt overwhelming." The quickest way to get your concerns resolved—whether it’s moving forward with treatment or reviewing other options—is by working directly with your clinical support team. They’re the ones best equipped to review your case in detail and provide you with the right guidance. I’ve already looped them in, and you can expect to hear from them within 1–2 business days. Only to proceed with more emails and messages of how else they can continue to string me along.

      Byte aligner company doesn't send promised accessories that were paid for. The constant customer support line asking the same repetitive questions with no support or resolution.       Byte took my money and left me untreated! I had a 1,000 to hit my Credit card account after months of me telling them the aligners aren’t working. They wanted me to go backwards and forwards and I just explained I wanted to end it all! Welp, I’m still paying on that CC and they would not refund me! I ended up getting braces because the aligners weren’t strong enough to grip my bottom teeth and still had to pay! I wouldn’t recommend them to Satan!! I still want my money back!!!

      I am waiting for them to reimburse me. There is a lawsuit in Florida against them. They can reimburse or have multiple lawsuits which I highly encourage because many people have irreversible issues because of using BYTE. I used the aligners and followed every step, when there was discomfort I notified them, when they didn't fit I notified, I kept on track and they finally sent new sets of corrected aligners and they were still not adjusting properly and uncomfortable. My teeth have a constant dull pain now as a result of it all and are sensitive when I close my mouth.
