I am impressed to read complaints like these! I bought in Brazil 15 years ago my 1st SEALY-Posturepedic/USA (imported) and even today is almost perfect... Now my mattress to be with my mother who loves too much. My only complaint: (if after 15 years is valid): the pillow that was made with Acrilon or something was lost all volume. In 1998 Visco and Latex not used yet! Out this detail could say the Posturepedic is eternal! Last week I ventured to buy another one (this was done here in Brazil) Model St. Germaine (I think is the simplest type). It is not as soft as I like but bought "Goose Feather" pillow top. I confess I'm afraid, after reading testimonials ... but thought it was good until today, stable! My back is aligned again after a few weeks sleeping on a sofa bed! The edges are well structured. The Aloe fabric cover is very soft and beautiful quilted. I could talk more about this mattress but I think it is already good for now. Good luck to people who chose, like me, sleeping with SEALY.

We bought a Sealy Optimum memory foam mattress for $3200.00 one year ago. We also bought the box spring and waterproof mattresses they recommended. This is the highest quality foam mattress Sealy sells. It was a little firm when we first got it but we gave it time and after about a month, we thought this is the best mattress we have ever had. It came with a 25-year warranty. We figured this is the last mattress we will ever need to buy as we were 60 and 65 years old. It is now one year later and the bed is starting to cause back aches as it is not supporting our bodies like it did at first. The foam raises back to a level position once we get out of bed but is losing its support when weight is applied.

We went to Ashley Furniture store and told the District Manager our problem. He told us to contact Sealy's customer service. I went online to Sealy's Customer Service and it says to contact the retail store you bought the mattress from. I can tell this isn't going to end well and from the sound of the other reviews on this site, I am wasting my time and money if I continue with a claim because it doesn't sag 1 1/2". I will never buy a Sealy mattress again and feel cheated that Sealy makes inferior products and won't honor their warranties. How did they get such a good reputation. It's gone to ** as far as I am concerned.

I exchanged my new Sealy queen pillow top mattress after a few months because of the huge sinkhole in the middle. Sound familiar? I couldn't roll over on either side without contorting my body. It was comical in a way, like a baby trying to rollover for the first time! The sales guy at Sleepy's seemed pissed every time I called but I did get a new one after I suffered through the trial period. When the new one came I noticed that it was covered in multiple layers of plastic, tags, needed to be sliced open, etc... to get it out. Like it came from the factory. Then I recalled that the original mattress didn't have all the plastic, tags, etc... The guys just pulled it out of a loose plastic bag. I thought that was weird. Now I know why. I probably got a reject!

But the new one is a waste of money also. It's been only 2 years now and I have depressions on both ends where I have rotated the mattress every couple of weeks. I am so disappointed. The mattress I bought from my boss for $50 with a few springs popping out was more comfortable than this one! After reading all of these complaints, do I even waste my time trying to do anything about it? No one seems to have a positive outcome. Just the thought of trashing a $1400 (total) purchase makes me sick but my back hurts and I sleep like **. I don't have that kind of money to waste... I will not be buying another Sealy or going to Sleepy's again! So, so pissed...

My wife and I had been sleeping on a full size mattress for over 10 years that we paid about $350 for at a discount mattress store. It was comfortable enough, but we wanted a queen sized bed. We decided it was time to get a new, nice mattress that was name brand. We went to our local Sealy retailer, and bought a new pillow top Sealy for around $800. Within a few months, my side of the mattress began to sag towards the outside edge. A few months later, the middle of each side of the mattress began to sag. We are six months or so into owning a new Sealy, and it sags?!

At that time we began to have back pain upon awaking each morning. We decided to call our local retailer and file a warranty claim. They sent out a tech to do the measuring of the mattress for sag. WHAT A JOKE the test is! A five-pound weight encased in a PVC pipe is placed on the mattress, a string, weighted for tension, is placed across the width of the bed. The weighted PVC pipe has to have a 2" gap below the string to be covered. A pillow top will fluff up to support a 5-pound weight, people. A pillow top will ensure a failed warranty claim, essentially. The test is, in my humble opinion, obviously designed to reject claims.

I was stunned at the stupidity of the parameters of the test. I was ENRAGED at the fact that I was rejected for warranty. Sealy has, again in my opinion, raised the bar in unethical business practice concerning the warranty. I wake up with severe, debilitating back pain every single day now. I dread going to bed at night, knowing what I will feel like in the morning. I am disheartened by the treatment I received from Sealy's warranty policies. I wish I had never even stepped foot into that store where I bought this torture device of a mattress.

My money is gone, I need a new mattress AGAIN, and I cannot sell this POS to anyone. I wouldn't even feel good about GIVING this pile of crap to somebody, as I would be knowingly hurting them. I think that could be called assault with a Sealy weapon. Sealy should advertise on TV with "Killing Me Softly" playing in the background. DO NOT BUY Sealy unless you like physical pain and financial loss.

My husband and I bought a King Size Sealy Posturepedic Bardstown Plush from Furniture Liquidators in Seymour, Indiana less than 2 years ago, "worst mistake we ever made!" Obviously from reading all of these reviews, it's not the retailer, but they made zero effort in helping us. They were extremely eager and a ton of energy when they were wanting my $2100.... We just got the same number you all got which helped none at all. We bought a new bed, frame, and mattress together, so they cannot use that. We had the bed less than 6 months and I noticed a dramatic drop on my side. I bought this bed because I have severe RA. Not only has this bed caused sleepless nights, horrible flare-ups from RA, but has caused some pretty hefty issues in my marriage.

When I roll over and finally get comfortable, my husband decides he wants to hold me, which I am his wife, this shouldn't be an issue at all, but it is. We have had many middle of the night arguments because thanks to Sealy, my husband thinks I don't want anything from him, not the case at ALL! My hubby is just slightly heavier than me. As soon as he rolls over, my back instantly drops. With my RA it doesn't take a minute I'm in pain. I try so hard not to hurt his feelings but I can only bear it for so long... I have finally talked him into accepting we wasted our money and get me a new "not Sealy" bed! With this many issues someone should do something! Oh by the way, there will be an unstained practically brand new $2100 bed in the trash, any takers?

I had issues after 3 years and when I called the factory back, they said they will send someone to look at the mattress and fix the problem. They did send me a new set. Now I have issues with the new mattress they sent me and when I call them, they are saying, "We can not talk to you here. You need to call the 800 number." I called the 800 number that was not dealing with customer service issues. Now they are telling me: "Go online and fill out a complaint along with original retail receipt and we'll get back to you." I keep explaining to them this was factory direct purchase and they are just running me around.

We had two replacement mattresses from Sleepy's as they began to droop/sink within one month of purchase. We gave up after the second and decided to go with a IKEA which was 2/3 the cost and have never been happier. Sleepy's did offer to replace the 3rd set but after 2, it was obvious all them had dismal quality at best. Lessons learned! Oh, me and the wife weigh a combined weight of 300 lbs.

Mine is the same story. Purchased this mattress and box spring from Sleepy's in New York about 5 years ago for $3,400. I thought that was a lot of money but came with a 20-year warranty. Started sagging and we finally called for an inspection. The test is this: Does it sag more than 1 1/2" with no weight on the bed? Ours sagged only 1 3/8" so they denied the warranty claim. Meanwhile, if you put any weight on the bed it's clearly got a big hole in the middle. Never had such a bad experience with a mattress. I'd love to find a good lawyer who can put together a class action lawsuit against Sealy and Sleepy's for deceptive business practices.

I purchased the Sealy Francesca TI king mattress from Sears. It is not a pillow top mattress. Within 8 months, it began to sag. My back began hurting. Sears sent the representative from quality control, and I too was told that it didn't sag enough - the required 1 1/2". Might I add that I purchased the mattress, box spring, and frame all at the same time so they had nothing to blame it on. The rep acknowledged that he could see the dip with the naked eye; however he had to report it "non-defective". I replaced a twenty year old mattress that was better than this...what a waste of $1300.00.

After sending an unhappy customer e-mail to Sears where I purchased the mattress, I did receive a call from Their Blue Ribbon Service department-- he investigated, and I have been told I will get an even exchange from Sears- not Sealy- because he too sits on the side of his mattress o to put on shoes, talk on phone. and had never heard not to.

He did say the warranty department read him the warranty manual from Sealy and it said- don't sit on edge of bed". Well I have the warranty paperwork that came with the bed-- it says "avoid bending the mattress, jumping or standing on it, use dry-cleaning chemicals or spill liquids on it" No where does it say warranty void if you sit on edge of bed! But I will refrain from sitting on the edge of the bed when I get my new one- and it will not be Sealy! . Thank you Sears! No thanks to Sealy.

    Original Review: Aug. 22, 2013

I purchased a Sealy firm Spring Blossom king-size mattress from Sears in late April 2010. Within a couple of months, the "firmness" began sagging, and the sides bulged out. I did not complain about this until July 2013. Sears sent an adjuster out to assess. He took one look at the sides and said it had split, and that qualified for a new mattress. Said I should hear from Sears within 7-10 days. On the 14th day I phoned Sears... Was told Sealy denied the claim because it was not sagging over one and a half inches in depth - this is the foam on top as well as the fact that the side bulging was from sitting on the edge of the bed. One is NOT supposed to do that.

My last mattress lasted 15 years before I replaced it and I used to sit on the edge of the bed. This one is now three years old but the problems started within a few months of purchase. The 10 year warranty is a joke and Sears will not stand behind it. Most mattress manufacturers no longer make them so they can be flipped, stating no longer is it a requirement to maintain the quality mattress.. So we the consumer have to purchase new mattresses more often due to substandard manufacturing and denying warranty claims, especially when they say it is your fault for sitting on the edge of the bed.

After investing a lot of money in a new mattress that has a really nice fun-fur type fabric cover and a cushy pillow top, a perpetual sag started to occur under the posterior area after only a month. Suddenly I was waking up daily with lower back pain. The mattress companies have a policy to "deny, deny, deny," and we can all agree to that being true. Who would have guessed? There may as well be no warranty on pillow top or Eurotop mattresses since body impressions are not covered and since the sag needs to be an incredible 1 1/2" deep to be a warranty issue! I will never try another pillow top or Eurotop mattress again. I noticed a US company online has gone back into making regular old fashioned 2 sided mattresses that are 17" thick. They are not cheaply priced and may be worth looking into.

Purchased Sealy Mattress in February at Mattress Discounters. It started failing in about four weeks. Our former 20-year-old mattress was more comfortable. The 1 1/2" measurement is baloney since they have added a memory foam layer to the top of the mattress. This means that no matter how bad the remainder of the mattress fails the top will never drop that critical 1 1/2" because of the memory foam. "Body molding" is also a ridiculous term. This is only the fifth mattress we have had in 52 years of marriage and the only one to completely fail in the first five months. The others took at least 12 years to show any evidence of body impressions. After reading the comments below, I doubt that we will get any satisfaction. I guess we have wasted $1500 with no chance of recovery. Will probably donate it to the local girls' home if they will take it.

We rotated the mattress but to date, we are both suffering from lack of sleep due to mattress dipping in the center and hard at each side. What is going on? This is supposed to be a well respected company. I am typing this at 10:21pm and don't want to go to bed as I feel like this is a nightmare. This is not an exaggeration. We would like the CEO to spend a night on this bed and you will see.

I am contacting the company on Monday, but it doesn't sound very good judging by other people's comments. I am relieved though that there are other people experiencing this same problem from such a well known company, but completely disheartened that this has even happened and even more disillusioned by the fact that other people have had problems with replacement mattresses and have to pay for delivery charges etc. In fact, I am appalled. Looks like this will be another nightmare. Now who do we trust if we can't trust a previously well known and respected company?

I have read these reviews and most could have been written by me. We paid $1600 for a mattress that broke down in the first year. We also took the required pictures and it took quite a bit of time for them to replace the mattress with a new one which is even worse! We also gave up a comfortable old mattress which I now regret. It is such a hassle to go through the process of making the claim that I will just trash this mattress and do my homework before replacing it. I have heard so many horror stories about this and it seems it is such a racket that this company can continue to do this to consumers (they also made us pay another delivery charge for the replacement). I asked what they would do with the one that I sent back and he said, "Resell it"! I wonder if we all have gotten used mattresses as replacements!

I purchased a Stearns & Foster Euro-Top about 5 years ago and it began sagging almost 6 inches on both sides where my husband and I sleep. I called Sealy and they sent me a warranty package to fill out and asked me to take pictures. I did all that, then they called and needed a picture of the actual bed frame. I could not take a pic of the frame right away; husband was out of town for several weeks and I had a broken hand and could not lift the box spring. I ended up just feeling under the frame and sent them a letter saying it was just a regular frame, no center support like I originally thought it had. They have now denied my warranty. The thing is, before we purchased the Sealy 5 years ago, our other mattress lasted almost 25 years with the same bed frame, so in other words, they are blaming the bed frame, not the mattress itself which we paid $1,300 for. We had purchased a new box spring the year before that. Not only that, but all the stitching has come off around the mattress itself. I assume that is a bed frame issue too he? Whatever! I will never purchase another Sealy for as long as I am on this earth.

I honestly am to a point where I am upset with the lack of communication with me concerning my replacement or fixing of my box spring. I purchased it and received it on Dec 23rd. By the end of Jan./Feb., it showed signs of breakage. I notified the Ashley Home Furniture Store in my town for the customer care to no avail. Finally, when I did get through, the earliest appointment was not until March 2. I patiently waited as the bed began developing back issues for me along with other bodily pains caused from discomfort. I received info on the 2nd that Sealy would be notified the following Tuesday.

I never heard back from either company. I called Ashley's to find out what was to be done with my clearly broken box spring and all I got was, "It's a Sealy issue." I was told that I'd have to wait an additional 2 more weeks to "10 business days". At this point, my back is so twisted that I cannot stand up straight without pain. I have had family and friends see the bed and question like myself why it has taken so long for a response. I do not have an issue with the company as I bought the exact same bed the same day for my mother. She has no issues with her bed. However, this is not beneficial for me as it takes away my ability to work when I am in constant pain. So please, read this post and contact me as soon as possible.

We purchased this king size Euro Top mattress from Sleep Country. And after 3 months, there were sags in both sides of the bed and a big lump in the middle. We contacted Sleep Country, and they came out and did the old measurement thing, and yes, like everyone else, there isn't enough "sag of 1.5" to replace the mattress. Not to mention the huge lump in the middle, which keeps my wife and me apart! I have been waiting with a sore back, and my wife with sore hips and now degenerated discs in her back, for the sag to get to the 1.5" mark, but it just never seems to get there. Just shy, of course (excluding the lump, which I will get to later).

I emailed Sealy customer service and I will quote the response: "Thank you for your email. Body impressions are normal in a mattress up to 1 1/2". The hump in the middle is there as nobody sleeps in the middle of the mattress. Unfortunately, per our warranty card, the body impressions must be greater than 1 1/2" before we do replace the mattress. Thank you."

So I think the next step should be for everyone here to post YouTube videos about the mattress problems. If no one buys the mattresses, then they will be out of business. That is where they should be; and I bet none of the employees of Sealy sleep on their own mattresses!

Only then did we read negative reviews regarding this particular brand (there are more than 60% complaints that are based on sagging and poor quality). Furniture medic that was ordered by Sears didn't find enough sagging - 1 inch instead of 1.5 inches to replace this mattress, and left us sleeping another 6 months on it.

My question is, if Sealy company is not good enough to deliver a good quality of mattress, then it should be at least good in terms of customer satisfaction. Wait, that means that our $1,100 mattress we bought for $800 was at most 6 years old with a 10-year warranty. Only thing is that it did acquire some stains over the years and the "don't rip this tag off" tag was removed. No warranty. We decided not to go back to the store or to Sealy. Kind of reminds me of those folks who bought Kias.

Poor Quality and Worthless Warranty - The complaints are endless here. My complaint is the same as everyone else. However, Mattress World is in the same league as Sealy. They denied my claim due to a small spill, which wiped off quite easily and nowhere near the sagging center. My warranty completely states that if the product is so pervasively soiled, etc., it would void the warranty. Jeff, the service manager, feels that it is his sole purpose in life is to cheat people. Well, there is not much we can do folks. I blog everywhere so all my friends and family would know not to buy a Sealy or go to Mattress World.

I am looking to take them to the magistrate. I want my money returned. I will continue to document everything as a case of "bait and switch.” I am also going to find out about a class action lawsuit. I may have lost a little over $400, which is a lot of money for me, but I truly feel for the ones that lost hundreds more. The Internet is where I will go from now on. It’s too late for me. If I would have read half the complaints, I would have never bought from this company or bought this product. So I called on it and for it being under warranty, you guys charged me $35 for someone to come look at it and that is not right. I got credit for another mattress and I went to pick one out. I even upgraded a little. So now, we're 2 and 1/2 years later into that new mattress and it is sagging again.

I called again and they charged another $35! I got a phone call saying the bed is defective again with 1 and 1/4 dip. Again, I went to pick out my bed and it almost doubled what my credit was. I was told to stick with Sealy because my box spring was good. Slumberland was going to charge me $65 for delivery and that is not fair or right. I didn’t ask for this. It actually is a pain. So what I'm saying is that the money I paid should be credited back to me. There is no reason I should be on my third bed in three years. This Sterns & Foster which cost $2000 on 1/2 off sale at Sears is manufactured by Sealy for Stearns & Foster. I contacted Sears customer service and they sent me the procedure on how to measure the sag. It has to be 1 1/2" to be called defective. This one is only 1 1/4" so it is not defective. This is the worst mattress we have ever owned and all we can do now is throw it away and buy a new one. We will never buy again from Sears. Back in November, I decided to splash out on a new mattress. When deciding which brand to go for, I remembered how comfortable the mattresses in the Hyatt Hotels in Egypt were, where I had spend many holidays. I looked up "Hyatt mattresses" and up came the Hyatt at Home website. There were all the mattress options available, promising a good night's sleep as good as in the hotel. Unfortunately, there was no delivery option available to the UK, just US delivery. Determined as I am, I purchased a queen size mattress and had it delivered to a friend’s address in NY, where it was subsequently picked up by my own freight forwarding company for UK delivery. Mattress cost $1,050 plus $150 US threshold delivery. By the time I had paid UK shipping plus import duty VAT, I had spent near $1,800, but I thought it was worth the effort. How wrong I was!

The mattress arrived and all seemed fine. Label on the front of mattress says: Sealy for Hyatt, Grand Bed (Grand bed, my foot!). Upon close inspection, I noticed the finish of the mattress was really bad, with lots of snagged threads hanging loose on the quilting. I also noticed the binding attaching the pillow top not having caught all the inner filling and subsequently fraying in one place. Although these initial flaws somehow diluted my excitement about my purchase, the first night’s sleep on the mattress was, as I had remembered them in the Hyatt hotels, wonderful. I decided to overlook the flaws and not to complain, as this mattress had traveled so far and all seemed fine.

However, after having slept on the mattress for about 14 times (it’s in my pied a terre), I noticed how body indentations started to form and the mattress was sagging in the middle. This became worse by the day and sleeping was like lying in a hammock, resulting in lower backache every morning! I complained to Hyatt at Home customer service via email with accompanying photographic evidence back in March 2012. No reply to this day. Fortunately the mattress had been paid for by credit card and I then complained to the bank. In the UK, all purchases over £100 made with credit card are protected, and the credit card issuing bank is jointly and severally liable for faulty goods. It’s not been sorted out yet, but I have good cards to get my money back in full to include consequential losses.

I think Hyatt at Home should be ashamed of themselves, selling such cheaply manufactured substandard goods, whether Sealy manufactured it or not. The mattress is not the same as the ones in the hotels. They are therefore misleading potential customers in their statements. The mattress is made with the cheapest of foam (polyurethane) and nasty polyester damask covering. I purchased a Feather & Black mattress (manufactured by old established company Harrissons) to replace this piece of garbage and spent another £850 (sale price down from £1,300). Worth it; all natural fillings, high quality springs, cotton covering, handmade in the UK. If I had only known before what a rubbish Hyatt at Home mattresses are!

I have a 20-year old Sealy in my other bedroom that my son slept on when he lived at home. It is still in excellent condition. I decided to purchase a new Sealy for my bedroom because I believed Sealy was a premier mattress builder and supplier who purchased Stearns and Foster. Wrong! No more quality Stearns and Foster or Sealy mattresses. They all sag immediately and there seems to be no way to get a quality mattress from this company or any other company.

What is a consumer to do! Paying more money for a mattress is no guarantee that the mattress is of good quality and will last for one month. I know this because I purchased two Sealy mattresses from two stores and they both sagged. Does anyone know of a mattress company that makes a long lasting queen ultra firm mattress with 800 13-gauge metal coils that will last me until I die? I will be 64 years old and all I want is a solid firm mattress that will see me through my twilight years. I do know that all of these mattress companies that make inferior products should be shut down.

I called Sealy to complain and the customer service lady told me that all queen and king size mattresses had to have five-leg support in order for the warranty to be valid. I told her that my bed is all wood and has four wooden legs and six slats. She told me that it had to have five-leg support again. She then proceeded to tell me that I had been reading too many complaints on the internet. I told her I was speaking from my own experiences. However, with all of the complaints lodged against them, one has to wonder how they stay in business. I asked her for the phone number or email address of the CEO, Lawrence Rogers. She said there was no way to contact him by phone or email. I asked her if anyone had taken his place because he is scheduled to retire this year. She said he was still there.

I was so frustrated. I hung up and researched the corporate phone number for Sealy (336-861-3500). I called this number and I asked for Mr. Rogers. I was told they would transfer my call. My call was transferred to his office to speak to his assistant. However. I got a lady's voicemail that requested that I leave my name and number and they will call me back. Nothing works. I can't even find anyone to talk to at Sealy. I’m out big bucks and need to fork up more money for a new mattress set. I had my old mattress for 26 years and it never once sagged. I should have never gotten rid of it. Of course, it wasn't a Sealy!

We purchased a pillow top mattress through Sealy direct. Within a couple of weeks, the mattress began to sag and have indentations. There is only one person sleeping on this mattress, and this should not happen. I contacted Sealy about the warranty, and they informed me that they could not do anything about it. The inspector indicated that it had an 1 1/4-inch indentation without anyone touching it. So can you imagine how deep the indention is with someone lying on it?!

Again they denied our claim. We paid $1100 for these mattresses, thinking we were getting a quality product. These mattresses are far from quality, and Sealy does not stand behind their products. I will never purchase another Sealy product, and neither will anyone else I know if I can tell them otherwise. Do not waste your money.

In less than one year, there is a sag in the middle of this mattress despite spinning it as recommended. This defect makes it extremely unbearable to sleep on and this mattress isn’t even two years old. Subsequently, I put in a claim with Sleepy’s per Sealy’s request since they are the original retailer and had an inspection done. However, I’ve been told by Sleepy’s that Sealy, as the manufacturer, will not honor the warranty due to improper supports regarding my bed frame. Upon viewing their website, my bed frame meets all criteria of proper supports of at least five legs.

I am one pissed off consumer. I tried to get a hold of "customer support" and to no avail have I been able to contact someone to assist me. On March 2, I sent a certified letter with all of my paperwork, which was signed and returned, and I have not heard a peep from Sealy's more than 10 business days later. Talk about getting the major blow off! I am sending another angry letter along with the threat of contacting my local news stations to file a consumer alert/complaint. Hopefully, they will be contacting Sealy to let them know that they will be broadcasting their devious and dishonest manner in which they refuse to honor their warranty guarantees. So, I had to go through all the warranty hassle of being on the phone for long periods of time. They replaced the set. This happened about 3 more times with the bed starting to sag and they have replaced them. I have written a letter to the CEO of Sears and Mr. Johnson did not reply. I made numerous attempts to contact Sealy to resolve the matter and I keep being referred back to BJ's wholesale. When I contact Bj's, I keep getting referred back to Sealy. I have spent the past 7 months trying to get some sort of satisfaction, but there is no way I want the same mattress and the only option I have been mentioned is an exact replacement of what I all ready purchased.

It is fast approaching the end of the1 year manufacturers warranty. I had filled out the form from Sealy who made me draw where the impressions are, included pictures, and sent this information to Sealy twice with no response. This representative was the one who handled complaints for Sealy (for mattresses purchased at Bj's), or so I was told. The mattress is now ten times worse and can no longer sleep on it because the dips, impressions and support is practically non existent. This has been going on for over 7 months, but am very weary about purchasing any Sealy product from the amount of complaints for all types of their mattresses. I have made two calls to BJ's corporate offices to obtain copies of the transaction receipt in order to return to the store, but they have not sent it to me, as they indicated where I used my debit card, they could trace the receipt. As in most of the complaints listed under the Sealy mattress heading, we too ran into the same problems. Approximately 5yrs ago, they replaced a 15yr old Sealy that we had no problems with, other than my wife had developed arthritis and found it too firm. We bought a $2,000.00 (at supposedly 40%off) Sterns & Foster, Union Station Eurotop, king size mattress and box spring.

The first 6 months were good and then we started noticing sag on either side with a hump in the middle. I called the dealer and was told that the sag had to be over 1 1/2" in the first year. It hit the 1 1/2" mark at just over a year and when I called again, I was told that it was not warranted because of the 1yr limit but the pillow top could be redone for $500. As others ran into, getting a response from either the dealer or Sealy was next to impossible. We now have a mattress that the pillow top is virtually non-existent on each side with a 3" hump in the middle. As far as my wife’s arthritis, what felt good new, now causes more pain than the old mattress. We've since bought a memory foam topper that at least gives a measure of comfort where we sleep and live with the hump in the middle. Dealer has now gone the way of the local carnival.

I purchased a Stearns & Foster mattress in August, seeking some relief for my back pain, from Mattress Discounters. Within 30 days, a sinkhole developed that when you sat on it you sank in. The right side of the mattress also developed a weakness when sat upon. I reported this to my salesman and he told me that I had a 10-year warranty and could exchange the mattress any time. He asked that I return it and try to see if it proved to be better.

The mattress only got worse, and in addition it became extremely uncomfortable to lay in the middle. I have 5 bulging discs and arthritis in my lower back, and this mattress makes it that much more painful. I'm a widowed 67-year-old senior citizen living on Social Security, and it put a real dent in my savings to lay out $1,490.00 for this mattress. I went back to the store to report that the mattress was indeed defective in early December. They had an inspection scheduled to be done by Precise Mattress. The inspector came and checked under the mattress for proper support, and then used a string to try and measure for indentations and peaks and valleys in the mattress.

The inspector documented everything with pictures, but at no time did he push down on, sit on, or lay down on the mattress. I asked a couple of times for him to sit on it and try it out but he didn't. When he was done, he told me not to worry and that I would hear from the retailer within a week. I received a letter the following week denying my claim as the indentations were not deep enough in the mattress. I called Precise Mattress to complain that their inspector never sat or laid on the mattress to really see the problems as there are no visible indentations. They told me that they are not allowed to do so. Some inspection.

I then called customer service at Mattress Discounters and was told that I could reschedule another inspection in 60 days and I asked how can I sleep on a defective mattress for another 60 days. They gave me the number for Sealy Customer service in Arizona. I called and was told the same thing about how inspections were done, and when I told them that the defects only show when you lay on the mattress, they just told me that this was their procedure and nothing could be done. I asked for someone higher on the food chain in their company, so they took my phone number but no one ever called. I spent over 30 years in retail, and I can smell a bogus warranty set up that only works for the company not the customer. That is why I'm writing you.

I called Rooms To Go, and they sent someone out. He rotated the mattress, which only puts the bad side on my side. They said it was not bad enough to be covered at this time, and to let them know if it gets worse in the future. This mattress is a mattress that's not to be turned. We know there is something wrong with this mattress, and thought Sealy should know this product stinks, and we are out $1,500.00 plus taxes and delivery.

They allowed me to replace my Sealy with a Simmons Copocabana. I've had it for a week and I felt body impressions on both sides the first night I slept in it. Now I know why they will not allow you to return a mattress with stains. Why can't businesses just do the right thing and quick trying to scam their customers? This has been nothing but a nightmare.

I contacted Mattress World and they sent over someone to take pictures. For about the past 6 weeks, I have been getting the run around from J.D., who owns Mattress World-Pittsburgh, that they're waiting on Sealy to "sign off on the paperwork" for a replacement.

I've asked for a full refund and he told me that wasn't company policy. We can have a new frame but the issue with the bed is up in the air. The bed came wrapped in plastic and it was not raining when we picked up the merchandise. Also, there is no stain on the top part of the bed. I just want a refund to purchase a bed somewhere else and now definitely not a Sealy.

The mattress' performance should be based on the performance of the foam and not on the 1.5" depression. This is like buying car tires that look good on the shelf, but without any air pressure in them, they are (flat) useless.

We tried to get a warranty replacement but after playing games with us for 3 months, Sealy and Sears told us that they cannot accept the 10-year warranty due to a stain! Sealy sold us a defective product and will not accept the warranty due to an unrelated stain. This is a classic scam, and it is amazing they can get away with it with the connivance of retailers like Sears, with poor customer service. These 10-year warranties are a fraud, if they can refuse to accept it due to a small stain! It had an uneven sleeping surface so I contacted them via e-mail for replacement or refund on Jan 17. The reply was that they would send an inspector which happened in Feb 11, after constant calling and e-mailing them.

The result of the inspection made by Mattress Marshals Inc. was that the mattress was not saggy enough (1/2" vs. 1 1/2"), that it was a body impression and so I was ineligible for a warranty exchange. I then visited Sealy's webpage to file my request directly but was sent back to the dealer. I called Sealy's warranty dept. and was told by Doris from the Consumer Call Center to ask the dealer to have the Sealy's representative to come and see the mattress.

Unfortunately, as Lavinia from Sleepy's said to me, they do not have a Sealy's representative. She told me to ask for a second inspection and that could be done after 60 days from the first one, and told me that I can buy another mattress on a employee discount price! So I did call on March 26 and Dana recorded my request. Then I immediately called again Sealy's Consumer Call Center to have them on the 2nd. inspection and was told that the inspection company knows Sealy's standards and in case of dissatisfaction I would need to continue dealing with Sleepy's.

The second inspector came on Mar 31 and the sagging increased to 1" but it was not enough yet! They didn't realize the 1/2" increase in 50 nights!

Now, even in 50 more days the mattress will not meet manufacturer's standards, I ran out of inspections calls because I had the right for 2 in a year. And I'm suspicious on one specific question of the Product Inspection Report saying "Is the mattress sagging 1 1/2 inches or more on both sides? So I switched to the other side and then the same thing happened. Then there was a lump down the middle. Very uncomfortable. I just thought it had to be broken in. To my surprise it stayed the same. Please note that I have had the mattress for a very short time. I am the only one that sleeps on the mattress.

At the time of purchase I was never ever told that I would have to turn the mattress around every three months or so. If the salesman had told me that I would not have purchased the mattress. I am a senior citizen, age 69 and I never would have purchased it if I had been told. I would have purchased another mattress that did not have to be turned every three months.

Only after calling to complain about the mattress, I was told to turn it around. No one ever told me that I would have to turn it every three months. Not by the salesman and not by the delivery person. Again, the first time I was told that I have to turn it every three months was when I called to complain. Apparently I was not the only one with complaints because that was the first thing I was told.

When the mattress was delivered they set up the bed and took away all of the plastic and papers. If there were any instructions, I was not given any.

I am very unhappy with the mattress situation and am not sleeping well. Wake up tired. Sealy should stand by their products and rectify the situation by exchanging the mattress for a better one or take the mattress away and refund my money. I paid $1,400 for this mattress.

An independent inspector came out and via mail stated "Impressions are within tolerance of the manufacturing guidelines for this model".

I am not happy and I still can't get a good night sleep. Remember, I am a senior citizen, age 69 and I had to save to make this purchase. I don't have the kind of money to waste.

We purchased a king size complete bed from City Furniture in West Palm Beach, FL in August 2009. By 2010, the top mattress was severely warped and out of shape/defective. Upon calling City Furniture, they said since we did not purchase an additional warranty through them, they could not help us and we would need to contact the manufacturer directly. Sealy had a toll-free claims number that City Furniture provided, and we were again totally surprised and disappointed that they wanted a claim form, along with an inspection fee in order to entertain our claim. We feel it is unethical for City Furniture to require a consumer to purchase an additional warranty on a product that already had a supposed warranty, and that Sealy required additional money for an inspection of a faulty product. We moved forward and purchased a new top mattress through Sears, who assured us that if we had any problems, they would take care of them personally and never charge an inspection fee.

We then contacted both City Furniture and Sealy to see if they could provide a refund of any sort (or a replacement top mattress), and we provided them many pictures of the faulty mattress. We specifically told them that we had ordered a new mattress, and if by chance they needed the old mattress, to please notify us ASAP so that when the new mattress was delivered, we could retain the old mattress rather than having Sears take it away. We specifically told them the date the switch was being done.

City Furniture refused to honor a warranty. Sealy agreed that the photos warranted a new mattress, and waived the inspection fee. They made absolutely no mention of us needing the old mattress for the switch. In fact, they told us the afternoon of the day that the new mattress was being delivered, that City Furniture would need the old mattress in order for the switch. I truly believe they did not respond timely on purpose. We emailed them on Monday and Wednesday that the new mattress was being delivered on Thursday, and we heard from no one until Thursday afternoon. Again, they did that on purpose so as to not honor the warranty of replacing the faulty mattress. When I asked about their initial email in which they specifically stated they agreed to replace the mattress with no mention of having to provide the old faulty mattress, they then said I needed it and could not help me any further.

We have a City Furniture credit card billing that includes the entire king size bed purchase on it. We also have financed a new top mattress through Sears to replace the faulty/defective top mattress sold to us through City Furniture. We are requesting (and have in several email requests between City Furniture and Sealy), a credit for the cost of the faulty top mattress purchased from City Furniture. We respectfully do not agree that an additional warranty needed to be purchased through City Furniture when purchasing a warrantied mattress. We do not agree with having to pay an inspection fee at the graces of Sealy for them to deem the mattress faulty. We do not agree on not being compensated for the mattress and the untimeliness of their reply, which we believe was purposely done, regarding having to produce the mattress when we specifically told them when it was being discarded. We would like a credit for the top mattress.

A man checked and took picture of the indent and wrote on checklist 1 1/2 inch. Sealy does not agree. I purchased this bed after 3 back operations because it was guaranteed. I purchased all bedding checklist items. Since then, the bed has developed indent which affects my back. Also, my husband now has kidney failure and cancer of the bladder. We both need to have rest and we cannot in this bed.

Wolf’s have turned it over to Sealy and can do nothing to help us. We both are 74 years old and live on a very limited income. $1773.22 is quite a lot to pay for a bed that is broken down already. I cannot get anyone to speak to me at the Sealy Co. Headquarters and so I am asking for help. I am not very well versed on using a computer. So if only I could have someone call me, I would like to plead my case.

I purchased a Sealy pillow top mattress set in 2006. Since then, I have had to replace 3 sets due to sagging/indents. I am on my fourth set. We went with a regular firm mattress (no pillow top) hoping to prevent yet another problem. It is 7 months old and starting to sag/indent. It is only 1 1/4 inch so they won't do anything about it yet, but I have no doubt that it will sag more. I bought my set from Mattress Discounter and I will never do this again. Although they have replaced each set that failed, I had to pay for delivery the first time, and pick it up myself the second time. Third time, I screamed enough they delivered it for free. I believe that I am getting inferior sets. I've owned Sealy before and they lasted years with no problem. Why is it they will not take it back if there are any stains on them? I personally think I am getting someone else's reject. I am sending this report so that others will be better informed. I think Mattress Discounter sells inferior products. I also know if I complain again that they will just send me another inferior mattress.

I purchased a $1500.00 Sealy Mattress. 3 weeks after purchase, the mattress lost all support on one side sinking in like a hammock; other side like a hard lump you would roll off to side. I complained to customer service. I had to wait 35 days for string evaluation. The bed is extremely defective and my back is killing me. This has been going on for 7 months. Roomstore told me that I have to wait another 6 months for another testing. Meanwhile, I'm off work for extreme back problems and I have a defective mattress. All I want is a new mattress that's not defective. I bought a $1500.00 mattress with a 10-year warranty that no one will honor. I'm totally frustrated that this is actually happening.

I purchased a king size Sealy pillow top mattress on December 20, 2005 at Mattress Warehouse in Niles, MI. The purchase price was $1906.94. It has a ten-year warranty. We rotated the mattress, as we were told we should do from time, and the seam that connects the back cover to the side of the mattress opened up and the back cover peeled off.

We contacted Mattress Warehouse to find out how to proceed, and they informed us that Sealy had pulled their franchise. We were told that we would have to contact Sealy ourselves. I Contacted Sealy and they said that they would send someone to investigate our complaint, which they did. He took photos of the damage and submitted his report to Sealy. He did not offer his opinion to us, which I didn't expect him to as he was working for a private firm. He did, however, give us the impression that our problem was a manufacturing defect.

Sealy told us that the warranty did not cover torn fabric. The fabric was not torn, the seam that connects it to the mattress failed! I could not get the customer service person to give me the name of her supervisor, so that I could write a letter to him. She wouldn't even give me her name. The letter that I received stating their position was signed, customer service, but not by a person!

On June 23, 2008, we purchased a Sealy beachside latex mattress in the amount of $1599.00 to replace our old latex mattress, which was about 20 years old at the time. Upon delivery, the mattress looked fine and was, initially, comfortable. Within two weeks, the mattress was sagging on the side that I slept on; so we contacted the store. A store representative was sent out to view the mattress. We were told that because the mattress was not sagging more than two inches, the warranty did not qualify for exchange or refund.

Because of replacement cost, we have put up with this mattress for a period of two years. Now, both sides of the mattress are visibly sagging. Pictures can confirm that the sag, without weight applied, is in excess of two inches. My husband, James, is now complaining daily about lumbar and hip pain. We have reached a point where we can wait no longer but must find a new, more reliable mattress company. The name Sealy no longer means a dependable product.

Both my husband and I have had previous back surgeries. Last year, I had to undergo a second spine surgery after my spine slipped over the fusion. I spent a month sleeping on a hospital bed before moving back to my own bed. It is sad to say, but the hospital bed gave more support to the back area. Sleeping on our mattress is the equivalent of being in a ditch. It is impossible to turn when sleeping. One must wake up and physically maneuver the body to a different position.

I have bought a Sealy king size mattress around November 2008. I was told that the mattress has a ten-year warranty. The mattress was great for about one year. Suddenly, the mattress started sagging badly. My wife and I could see the physical dip in the mattress where we laid down. We had constant back problems once the mattress started sagging. The spot were I laid down sagged at least two inches.

A representative came to measure the sagging for Sealy and said that they will contact me back. They never did contact me back, thinking that I would forget the complaint. I had to get the furniture store owner where I bought the mattress from to contact Sealy. They would not replace my badly sagging mattress.

I will tell all my family and friends to never buy a product from Sealy. I will go on every single internet forum and tell people not to buy Sealy. People, don't ever buy the sorry sagging Sealy mattresses. You will get ripped off. They have the worst customer service out there. I felt that Sleepmasters had done all they could so I contacted Sealy directly and was told that my problem was not with them but Sleepmasters. How can that be when Sealy was the one who made the faulty mattress? It is their problem.

I bought the bed on a sale. It was originally marked up at $1,450. I paid 450 which seems a bargain but it’s now going to the dumped. So $450 for a bed lasting for 15 months is no bargain. How sick would I have been if I had paid the $1,450. Why can’t Sealy own up to the fact that they've made a rubbish mattress. On December 1, 2009, I purchased a Scottsburg Queen mattress and box spring set. The first night I slept on it, I felt that it didn't feel as it did in the show room. It sagged, there was a hump in the middle, and I could feel lumps from the mattress on my back. And at times, I felt that if I moved the wrong way, I would roll off the bed onto the floor. I slept on it for several nights, getting up every morning with a sore back.

I went back to Sleepy's where I purchased the set to complain. I was told that I could get another model mattress but that their return policy was that I would only get a small refund for my original purchase, meaning, I would have to spend even more money. I couldn't afford to do that so the salesman told me that if they said it was defective, Sealy would give me a new mattress.

Since it was defective, I figured another one would be okay, especially since the one in the show room was comfortable. I received the new mattress shortly thereafter, and the same problem persists. It is so painful and so very uncomfortable! This is, by far, the worst mattress I have ever slept on in my life! A cheap hotel mattress would be better, I would bet!

I have not called either Sealy's or Sleepy's to complain as I'm sure it would do no good. Sealy's obviously is making inferior products and Sleepy's is selling them, supposedly at a "cheaper" price. It is a shame that we consumers are getting "taken" by these companies and we have no recourse except to spend more money to purchase a quality mattress made by a better company and from a reputable store.

After reading others' complaints, it's obvious that contacting Sealy itself would do absolutely no good, and Sleepy's is the middle man. Aside from throwing money away on an inferior product, which was not the same as the one in the show room, I wake up every morning with a terribly sore back and I cannot get a decent night's sleep from the discomfort.

Within days of this purchase the mattress showed immediate signs of sagging and heaving (hump in the middle), so much so that my husband and I could only sleep on the outside 18" of the mattress. The box springs showed no sign of a problem, just the mattress. After complaining to the salesman at Mattress Warehouse and having our 3rd party inspection, of course they found nothing wrong with the mattress and refused to stand by their warranty. You could easily see the hump in the middle and the sagging on each side of the mattress.

After speaking with TJ Johnson at Sealy Corp. several times (I had to call him back each time) he finally agreed to cover the expense of a third-party inspection again but that was all he could do. At this time I am sleeping on the couch, my husband on our twin guest bed and the king size mattress that I paid good money for is just sitting there, unusable. At present, we are ready to schedule our second third-party inspection and I am extremely disappointed in Sealy Corporation and Mattress Warehouse who would not stand by the product they produce and sell.

I went to the store and complained that the mattress is giving us back pain and that it is sagging. The mattress has a memory foam pillow top and does not go back to its original form like it is suppose to. The salesman at the store told us to give it some time to adjust. I finally had enough because I couldn't move on Saturday April 11, 2010 without pain and I went back to the store. They said, "No problem. We will send out a person to check your mattress." They said it had a water stain at the very top right corner that was causing the the whole bed to not remember to go back to its shape.

Well, I could see if the bed was soaked but it was not a big spot and it was not even close to where I slept. The person said, "Wait two more months and it will be twice as worst and we won't replace it then either." From a person in the store who wants to keep his job said, "The techs are told to look for spots in order to void the warranty and on an average, they get 10 calls a week from customers with this problem."

Sherman's spokesperson read for the warranty saying if I had bought their mattress pad it would have still been under warranty. However, they never mention this or said anything about stains voided the warranty. I will never buy another product from Sherman's or Sealy. I will be posting this everywhere I can find until I get satisfaction from Sealy. This is the second time I have had to use the warranty for the Sealy Mattress. Purchased first in 2004 with 10 year warranty, it had to be replaced in 2006. Once it was replaced, the same thing happened to the new mattress (springs poking out, lots of crackling popcorn noises). I got the warranty approved and mailed all the information in with the new mattress and box springs I selected, and paid the delivery fee. They received my paperwork on March 19, 2010.

After being on hold for over 20 minutes, then it automatically makes me leave my phone number in the automated system for a representative to call in the order the call was received. The first time it took 3 days to have someone call back. Second time it was 6 hours and third time it was 3 hours. Each person has told me something different for the time frames to receive the mattress. The letter states, it will take 3-4 weeks from the date they place the order for the replacement to be completed.

The last representative with a major attitude I spoke with said they have not processed the order yet and it will take 6-8 weeks to even process the order for the order to be placed. So that is 6-8 weeks to process the paperwork they have already received and been approved, plus an additional 3-4 weeks for the replacement. She said, they have to deal with everyone in the US's warranty claims. Don't you think Sealy should look at their mattress manufacturing to find out why everyone has to use their warranty in the US (why they are so backed up with claims) and maybe make a better quality mattress in the first place.

Not even one year later, there are deep holes that have formed where you lie and there is no way or amount of turning the mattress can you not fall back into the same holes. I have migraines and my husband had back surgery and is not able to sleep on this mattress any more. Between the deep grooves and feeling like he will fall off the side. We can not believe how the sales people lie to trap you into purchasing the substandard products and can get away with it.

We have had technicians come to inspect the mattress, they said there is a 1 inch impression, let me tell you, there is more than 1 inch. They used a chalk line to measure across, that does not show the deep grooves on both sides. They said they do not have to warranty comfort, but that is what they tell you when they are selling the mattress.

Rooms To Go will not honor the warranty, they state that they do not warranty comfort. I feel they should replace the mattress, not the foundation. This is not even 3 years old and I feel that they should be made to stand behind the warranty. How can they say they do not have to warranty comfort, that is what they tell you to sell it. The following is a letter I sent to Sealy that received no response. I'm not surprised that they also have no way of contacting them by email. They would probably need a staff of 50 to respond to all the complaints.

Never again, Sealy! I will never again purchase one of your mattresses. On May 26, '07, I bought a Sealy pillowtop mattress at a local retailer for close to $540. By the end of the first 9 months of use, I had developed sciatica in one of my legs. Since I play a lot of golf, I stupidly thought it had something to do with that rather than your product, even though I had never had any serious back issues from golf before. I managed to treat this condition fairly successfully with some stretching exercises, and so I continued to use the mattress.

In the spring of 2009, after using your product for less than 2 years, I developed back spasms that were so severe, that I was on Vicodin for 3 days until they subsided. My doctor suggested surgery, and at that point, I said that I would try changing my mattress before I took that severe a step. Since I had never had any big back issues, I thought there had to be another solution. The only mattress I had access to (without going out and spending another $500-1500), was one that was for a cot I had. It is a simple 6" firm foam mattress that I then topped off with a 1 1/2" piece of memory foam. I continued to use the Sealy boxspring.

Since I made this switch in April '09, I have had absolutely no back issues. I played golf the rest of the year without so much as a twinge. It was after making this change that I realized how poor the underlying support system was on your product. To me, it doesn't matter how many soft layers you have in the pillowtop, as long as you have strong support underneath, it should still work. Your mattress has no such support. It's like falling into a black hole. So much so, that the bed became difficult to get in and out of.

I am sending some photos along with this letter that will show you just how bad this mattress is. They were taken about 3 months after I had stopped using it, and there was still a clearly indicated depression in the middle. Even after all this time of the mattress just sitting on the floor with no use, the depression still hadn't sprung back.

For my part, I have stupidly lost the tag from the mattress (you conveniently stitch it to the top of the mattress, so people are bound to be irritated by it, and remove it), but I do have the original receipt. The store, of course, wouldn't honor the warranty without it, but did offer that since it was a lower priced Sealy, it would have been a 1-year warranty, so I would have been screwed either way.

One of my missions in life will now be to tell anyone who will listen about your pathetic product, and my story. I can only hope that in time, I can cost Sealy a great deal more money than I have been taken for. In going online and seeking any class action against you, I have noticed many hundreds of your other dissatisfied customers, many of whom have exactly the same problem as I do, who have suggested taking such action. I will keep looking, and add my voice.

They say "Buy American", and I do follow that as often as possible, but in your case, I would think that a mattress made in China would probably be a huge improvement.

I bought a Sealy Jacaranda SpringFree Mattress in 2006 for approximately $1,700. It had a 10 year warranty. After 3 years, it was "unsleepable". I asked for a service tech to check the mattress. They said it was not deformed enough, it needed to have a depression of at least 1.5" somewhere on the mattress. My mattress was crushed only about an inch. But the real problem was that the mattress had failed where it bends. I had purchased a Tempur-Pedic adjustable base, the motorized kind that shifts the legs or head up or down. It even has a "Magic Fingers" mode. The whole set was just short of $5,000.

Everything worked great, except for the mattress. And I don't think we were unduly harsh on it but it apparently could not take the bending. But the tech did not even check for that what he did look for and find was a small jelly stain that effectively voided my warranty. They didn't care that it was a small surface stain or that it had nothing to do with the performance of the mattress, it was just their way of washing their hand of any investigation as to why the mattress had failed. I've received a "sad but too bad" letter from Steinhafel's Furniture which I discovered was literally "in bed" with Sealy.

In fact the letter opens with "Steinhafel's Furniture and Sealy Bedding Company". It's no wonder when I tried to hit Sealy online, I had to write them a letter, "Snail Mail"! No fax or e-mail. So I've written Sealy and the Better Business Bureau, which is online, because I think it's a travesty. If the mattress couldn't take the bending, they should have told me and if I knew the product was so weak, I wouldn't have bought it. But it was touted as a super mattress, better than the Tempur-Pedic and I believed them. I just think it's sad they can get away with treating any customer like that.

On 6/19/09, my fiance and I purchased a Sealy Milton House LX EPI with a Low profile box spring, together the price was $1,469, plus the "Mattress Plan" for an additional $79.99. We made a point of purchasing this very firm mattress, and spent a lot of money to ensure comfort and excellent support, especially for Garry, who has had 2 back surgeries, and who would be having hip surgery shortly thereafter.

Sometime in September (2 months later), my fiance and I started noticing the mattress sagging in the center. At first, we thought it was our imagination because after all, it was a brand new and very expensive bed. By November, it was clear that we were not imagining the sagging hole in the center. I went to Taft in December to find out what to do, but the next day, the person called back saying they lost the receipt, and they didn't have the information they needed. In January I went back to Taft, and gave them the information they needed for the second time.

A few days later, someone from Taft came to inspect the mattress. He told my fiance that the mattress was "soft", and that he would send Sealy his findings, and Sealy would make a determination. About a week later (today, 1/22/10), we got a letter from Sealy, Inc, saying that "the deepest body impression on your mattress was measured at 1/2 inch, which would be within the normal parameters. These impressions are a normal occurrence in your sleep set and indicate that upholstery layers are performing as they were designed to by conforming to your body's individual contours. Mild impressions up to 1-1/2 inches are normal and not indicative of a manufacturing defect. The impressions on your mattress do not currently exceed this threshold, and are therefore within the range of what should be expected. Since we have determined that no manufacturing defects are currently present, we cannot offer a warranty exchange on your sleep set."

Due to this significant sagging, (that is definitely more than the "1/2 inch" stated by Sealy, Inc) my fiance and I sleep in a big hole every night, instead of the firm, even, mattress we had tested and thought we purchased. My fiance, who has had 2 back surgeries and is having total hip replacement in 2 weeks, wakes up throughout the night in unnecessary discomfort. Additionally, with this sagging mattress, I am concerned for my fiance's rehabilitation after his hip replacement surgery.

We bought a Sealy Fountain Meadow Pillowtop Mattress three years ago from Mattress Discounters. It slept hot from the beginning and I have to move from place to place on the mattress to find a cool, comfortable place to sleep. After three years, the mattress is sagging badly and causing me to awaken with back pain. If I sleep in the center of the bed, the slope causes me to roll back into the sagging spot. We have regularly rotated the bed to try to equalize the wear. My husband also is suffering from back pain.

After three years, I contacted Mattress Discounters and told them that the mattress is sagging. They tried to discourage me from having their mattress inspector come out, but I insisted, and an inspector from Integrated Bedding Group came out. He said that the springs are sagging, and that they will not resume their shape even if we rotate the mattress. But Sealy said that his report said that the bed sags only one inch and not the required 1 1/2 inch; hence, denying the claim.

After going through the necessary requirements of two inspections, we were able to replace the mattress. But not the box springs, which meant we had to pick a mattress that would match the Sealy box spring. This should have been a happy ending; however, the new mattress which was delivered on 6/15/09 was very uncomfortable. The mattress is a True Form Memory and it is impossible to turn or get out of bed without a struggle. I thought it would get better but after 3 months, it was worse. I called Sleepy's and they offered an allowance of $665.00 on my $1,899.00 mattress. This was not acceptable, so I decided to write a letter to Sealy Headquarters on 9/30/09.

By November, I didn't get a response to my letter or several phone calls, so I called Sleepy's and asked to have an inspector come and check it out. Well, the results of the inspection are as follows: the box spring is not up to standard and can be replaced; however, the mattress exhibits a 1.2 inch body impression and not the 1.5 inch requirement so that cannot be replaced. After the inspection on December 15, 2009, I finally received a response from TJ ** explaining in detail what I already knew from the inspection report, but adding that Sealy understands I am uncomfortable on my sleep set; however, comfort is not warrantable. I bought a Sealy Posturepedic in February of 2008. Right after buying, something went wrong with the side. I guess it collapsed. We eventually called Sleep Train (where we purchased it) about 6 months after having it. They sent out an inspector (after arguing a lot with their customer service, because they kept telling me it wasn't a warranty issue and that it must be from misuse or something and if it was, it would void my warranty; I told them I didn't care because if it voids warranty, oh well). So the inspector found that not only was the mattress defective but so was the box spring.

So we were told that we could go back into Sleep Train and pick out a new bed. We got another set ... Six months later, the bed was sagging 2" and it felt like there may have been a spring missing. They once again sent out an inspector and once again they had to switch it out because it was "defective" or in my words "a piece of **". So we just got a new bed about 3 weeks ago. Now guess what? Side is blown out again. I called their customer service and told them, "I just got this bed. Can I just bring it back and get another one?" They told me no, I would have to go through the warranty process all over again. She also explained that this is not something they usually do, just send an inspector out because usually there are guidelines to just get an inspector to come out.

I am just so frustrated I feel like they should just switch it for me. The first time the inspector came out for the first bed, I had to get off work early because they had no other times. The second time was luckily on the weekend. I do not want to have to wait for the inspector to have a time slot open because usually it is a couple weeks out, then you have to wait for him to fax in his findings and wait for Sleep Train to contact you and tell you the results (which last time they never even called me - I had to call them). I had a Sealy before for probably about 10 years and it was still in perfect condition. The only reason I got a new bed is because I had a baby and wanted to get a bigger bed. I totally think Sealy is going downhill!

On May 7, 2008, I purchased a Queen Randolph Stearns & Foster Mattress with the box, the frame on wheels, and a queen mattress protector. Total cost was $1,930.26. After just six weeks, there was sagging. The indentation caused me to roll in the direction of the sag when I tried to sleep on both sides of the sag. I lodged a complaint and a Sealy/Stearns and Foster/Bassett representative came to measure the indentation. His recording was between ½ and ¾ inch. I explained to him that the indentation is that depth only because I was not resting on it immediately before his measurement. I explained that when I lie down for just a little time, the sag is approximately 2 inches. He did not react to this.

Like other complaints I have read, customers react to the mattress not being measured when the consumer is on the mattress. It is bewildering to me that Sealy's policy is to measure only after the mattress has had time to respond back to its shape after the consumer has been off it for a while. The magic number for replacement is apparently anything beyond 1 and 1/2 inches. My mattress will never pass this test because it responds back to almost no indentation as soon as I get off it. Their warranty document reads: Most manufacturers consider a body impression of 1 and 1/2 inches or less to be normal and do not consider this to be a defect. Sagging however is not a normal occurrence, but it does happen occasionally.

They further claim that the consumer should not worry about impressions because the mattress is just conforming to the contours of the sleeper's body. I think the volume and nature of the typical complaints we are reading indicate that something is wrong with the quality in production. I started rotating the north end of the bed to the south end about eight months after the problem became apparent and I have been doing so every two or three months. The problem is better for a brief period of time, and then it's the same problem all over again. It might help if the mattress could be flipped, but with this model, it is impossible. I had lower spinal surgeries in 1997 and 1999, so a quality mattress was a priority for me. What a disappointment to sleep in what amounts to a little valley.

It is a major chore for me to keep moving the north end to the south end of the bed because of its weight. Incidentally, I am not a very big, very powerful guy. As a matter of fact, I weigh approximately 130 pounds, and I am the only one who ever sleeps in the bed. What kind of quality should I expect from a major mattress company? It is most impressive to me that there are so many similar complaints about similar type beds. I am glad that there is a site like this to offer complaints, and I am glad consumer advocates are interested. I might just have to buy another mattress because this makes my back so uncomfortable with the sagging. When I first bought the mattress, the hardness took me one week to get used to, and then it was wonderful. When the sagging began, it sure was an influence on my back. The first few days I rotated the mattress, I am comfortable again. Then sagging begins and my back feels it.

Eight months later it sagged so bad that when the techs came to measure to make sure it was 1 1/2 inches, they knew without measuring, it was bad. But they did the measures and pictures, and 2 weeks later they called to replace it. We paid $1347.00 for king mattress and box springs.

When we went in to replace, we decided to upgrade to a Streans and Foster Dorsett Pillow Top for an additional $600.00. Less than a year from delivery my wife and I were having trouble sleeping, with all the aches and pains. We called again and they sent out techs to measure and take pictures. Not only was the mattress sagging like crazy the box springs were also bad. This took 6 months for them to resolve the problems. Finally they said we could replace the mattress and box springs. We went to the store again, but because we upgrade the second time, the price for replacement was $1899.00. In the span of almost a year, the price on the Stearns and Foster went up another 800.00. So we had to downgrade to another Sealy mattress within that price range. We still ended up paying another $111.00.

My biggest complaint is having to pay more money each time the mattress and box springs fail, which in my case twice in 2 years. Sealy sure knows how to make money. I will never ever buy another Sealy product. I would just assume sleep on the floor or couch. Sealy is a poor product and I will tell everyone I know or don't know not to buy a Sealy product ever. I am done spending more money every year on a new mattress that should last longer than 1 year. I just wish I could get my money back and buy something else. Both beds have been exchanged for Foster and Stearns Beds within weeks after I paid a nice handsome additional fee like close to 1,000.00 for both beds combined.

Definitely higher quality product. We are into almost 4 years of use and I went to see an upholsterer about a month ago to see

about peeling back the cover on the mattress and stuff the sinkholes in the Ca King.

The upholsterer said they could but it will need to be hand stitched back so it would not look the same. That is what I will do instead of going back to this bed maker. They seem to have the attitude of standard pro rating the time and have you dish out an other sum to get an other replacement. I am not going to be held hostage for life to any bed maker. If I have to I'll make my own mattress.

So there you have it. Never buying a one sided not flippable mattress. If they would just use half the materials and make that fine quality. That would mean consumers would not be suckers dishing out exchange fees every three four years provided the original price was huge to begin with. I almost think a $1,000. mattress every three years would be cheaper way to go on a firm mattress no sink hole for sure.

    Original Review: Oct. 17, 2009

On Feb. 14, 2009, I purchased a Cal King bed set at Sealy Shell Harbour. That same day, I also purchased a full set for my 85-year old mother at my husband's suggestion ("If we have a nice new bed, mom should also"). According to my mom, her ten year mattress was much more comfortable. She could sit up and read in bed and would not fold into a pretzel as at present on this lovely new bed. She has been very dissatisfied due to lack of sleep and the sinkhole she is confined to in this new bed. The mattress examiner came out and in eight months of use, mom's bed is within 1/8 of an inch to qualify for exchanging the product.

Our Cal King size Shell Harbour had a broken rebar along the edge of the box spring. It took about three months to get it exchanged. It sounded like train on tracks every move I made. I also kept saying act fast. The mattress is compromised; it started to bulge out on one side like a huge welt. The salesman documented the welt in our file. As far as I am concerned, the salesman is and has been a prince about the ordeal. Now the big problem is two sinkholes on both my husband's and my side of the bed. It is like a confinement in a canoe or a hammock. Forget about getting decent rest. There is no firm or comfortable surface. As a matter of fact, to add insult to injury, the center of the bed is like a continental divide. My husband and I like to be close so we climb the hill between us. It would be funny if we were not in pain from being confined to our designated sinkholes.

This is preposterous that a brand new bed of 8 months has any sag. So get this, mom's bed is within 1/8" inch of acceptable replacement and the Cal King is within 3/8" from replacement by Sealy standard. I have been buying Sealy beds for my household and my daughter for many years. I guarantee there were no sags on the mattresses I replaced ever. Mom's previous bed was given to a friend who offered to give it back so she can start having some quality rest. Our Cal Firm Cal King was given to our neighbor. At three years of age, Sealy firm looks brand new, absolutely no sag.

What is this new ** about sagging standards for brand new beds? It is as bad as the ads for the space age materials used in new beds. Does it not occur to these rocket scientist bed makers that here on earth we have gravity? That is at the bottom of the stupid sinkhole that absolutely hurts a body. Well I really do not want to wait for any more inch fractions before my family and I can get a decent replacement bed with usable surface without a sinkhole or a canoe like confining space. The seller is working with me. The Mattress police guy who came out forgot to mention the manufacturing flaw of the bulge. I sent photographs of the bulge and the indent.

I am hoping for a quality product that is decent if in fact there is such a mattress. I really don't see why not, after all, I have never had a single mattress in my 65 years of life that I would ever need to complain about. I wish they would get back to normal and make reversible mattresses. Don't fix it if it's not broken. If you need a sample of what mattress used to be, we can get mom's back from our friend so you can take a good look and get back to normal bed-making dear Sealy.

When two normal sized adults lay on the mattress for more than 15 minutes, a "V" will form; this is very difficult to get out of. A technician visited the house and his report stated nothing was wrong. This is because you need to lie on the mattress for 15 minutes. We were then advised to contact Sealy, which we promptly did. Sealy told us to go back to Steinhafel's where we bought the mattress. So, we went back to the store that sent the same technician out again. We asked that they send two people to lie on the mattress which they did not. We have even offered to deliver it to them for testing, which they have not chosen to do.

We now have the furniture store (Stenihafel’s) and the mattress company (Sealy) each saying this is not their problem. We were actually told this is a personal comfort issue! This is a manufacturing defect and we cannot get anywhere. Sleeping is difficult; we are now using someone else's mattress and have no problems. On 12/26/2008, I received my third mattress and by 02/13/2009, they were back to look at my sinking mattress. It again was defective and I went back to the store for another mattress

On 02/24/2009, I received my fourth mattress from American. On 03/06/2009, they were back again to look at my mattress and it too was defective and I was charged another $39.95 for a trip fee. On 03/16/2009, I received my fifth mattress from American and by 04/10/2009, they were back at my house to inspect my sinking mattress. As expected, it was also defective.

On 05/19/2009, I received my sixth mattress from American and by 06/18/2009, they were back at my house to inspect my mattress. The guy that came to my house told me the mattress was defective and he was going to talk to the store manager about what to do. I never heard anything from American, so after six days, I called the store and the manager told me that the guy that came to my house had told him the mattress was actually not defective and there was nothing they could do.

I have slept on defective sinking mattresses for over a year and a half. My back now goes numb and my arms also do, too. I haven't had a full night sleep because I can't get comfortable. I have now spent $1,419.18 on trying to get a comfortable bed. Now, they're telling me that I'm just stuck with a mattress that is sinking four inches in the middle.

I purchased a Sealy Posturepedic Mattress Set from a local furniture store. The mattress had a terrible dip in the middle of the bed. I called and complained to the furniture store owner and I was not offered a solution. They did not offer to come and inspect or anything. I am disappointed with the mattress and service. I was stuck with a mattress that is horrible to sleep on, and I had to pay for it. Do I have any rights, or have they been waived because I didn't make a formal written complaint earlier. I've had the mattress for almost two years. My cousin also purchased a mattress from the same furniture company and is having the same "dip" problem. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

I went on a cruise last year and the bed that I slept in was heaven. I have 3 herniated disks and I slept pain free for 9 nights! After the cruise, I decided that I had to have that mattress. I went to order the mattress and noticed that it was in 2 pieces - mattress and box spring - and the mattress that I slept on was 1 piece. I called and was told that they had to sell the mattress in box spring separate or I would have to buy custom made sheets. Okay, that made sense. I ordered the set (for $1200+). When it arrived (2 months later), it was a pillowtop - the mattress on the ship was not a pillowtop. Back on the phone I went.

I was assured that this was the same firmness and support as the mattress that I slept on and it was only available in pillowtop. It's not! I have not slept a full night since day 1. Then about 4 months ago, the mattress collapsed. A Sealy inspector came and sure enough, the mattress is defective. I received a letter last week and was advised that the mattress will be replaced but I have to pay $120 for shipping and $65 for removal. What?! I did not get what I ordered; I haven't slept a full night in 10 months. The mattress is defective and I have to pay $185 on top of the $1200+ that I already spent? What kind of company is this? I am going to ask for a full refund and if I don't get it, the people in Trinity, North Carolina are going to hear about it!

In November 2008, I filed a claim for a defective mattress. The inspector did not come to my home until late January 2009. I received forms for warranty claim and Sealy received them in a certified mail on 3/9/09. My claim was not processed until 4/21/09. Today, a mattress arrived at my home, but not the set, which Sealy was to replace. I have spoken with customer service reps, supervisors and the regional manager. No one gives me the same information, no one is willing to put any promise in writing and six months later, I have a defective mattress set, and I have paid $120.00 for carrier service, which cleared my bank in March 2009, and an absolutely worthless warranty at this time. I have not had customer service from Sealy.

Mattress (Posturepedic) started falling apart right from the start. The foundation was coming apart also. After getting in touch with them and putting in a claim, it took over 6 weeks to process. I was offered a replacement mattress only for $120 and $65 for removal of the old one. I have added one more company to never deal with again.

I received a Sealy Posturepedic mattress and box spring for my birthday last year, July 2008. I have owned the mattress for less than one year. This is the only mattress I own. It is a less than garbage. I wish to file a lawsuit against Sealy. From the amount of complaints I read about this particular mattress, I believe a class action suit against Sealy is in order.

Recently, I have developed severe back pain and numbness in my legs because of the mattress. If I spend more than 30 minutes lying down on the Sealy mattress, I will not be able to bend my back at all when I get up. I have had to have therapy because of the problem. I have no insurance so I am now unable to get treatment. If I stay away from the mattress for about a week, my back will feel normal again. No other mattress or couch affects me like this. I am 23 years old and may have already developed irreparable trauma to my back because of the Sealy Posturepedic Mattress.

I purchased a Sealy Posturepedic Diamond LE mattress set. It is/was guaranteed not to sag. It is sagging and makes it uncomfortable to sleep on. It took all the photos and I emailed Sears as requested. When we called, they told us that having an inch sag is normal sagging and is not covered in the warranty. They will not replace. A sag is a sag and this item (that cost over $900) should be replaced.

On August 18, 2004, my elderly mother purchased a Sealy Premium Mattress set. On April 15, 2009, the mattress cracked in the middle, and a spring was sticking out on the side. My mother weighs 150 lbs. and uses her bed only at night. I have attempted to contact Sealy via phone and internet but without success. I will send a snail mail letter, but knowing that I only have the original receipt and not the law tag, Sealy will probably do nothing. This is taking unfair advantage of the elderly; someone who has very limited income. Sealy does not care about their customers, and I will see that my mother receives a mattress/box spring from someone other than this unreliable company. Sealy puts their callers on hold indefinitely. They state you can receive claim forms online. This is not possible. Along with the letter I am sending to Sealy, I will also report this to the State Attorney General and to the BBB.

Consequence: Mattress cracked after 4.5 years of use, wire sticking out.

I just bought a brand new queen Sealy pillowtop for myself and a twin size of the same exact bed for my 9-year old son two months ago and have ten-year warranties on both of them. Of course, the warranty is void if there is any stain bigger than a pinpoint and I do have a water stain (have 4 kids in the house) and a very tiny lipstick stain (courtesy of 3-year old niece the very day I got my bed). Now, the coils on the side of my bed, 4 zigzag shaped ones, are bent outward. One side of my bed is lower than the other. The material on the boxspring looks stretched out and seems to be coming apart. My son's bed is starting to do the same thing. I talked to the manager at Mattress World, and he told me I should hire a mattress cleaner to come in and clean my mattress so the warranty might be okay.

I only paid $400 for the bed so I don't want to spend a fortune getting a defective bed cleaned. He also told me that the reason that the mattress companies don't take back beds with stains is because of AIDS. He said it started in the 70's and that the mattress companies don't want to put the employees at risk; so basically, for sanitary reasons. What a joke! He was supposed to talk to his warranty guy and call me back 4 days ago and I have not heard a thing since. I am going to fight this until the end and get a good bed because this is ridiculous. I am going to call the manager again tomorrow and see if I can get anywhere. My next step is a letter to the CEO of the company and of Sealy.

They came to my home and took lots of pictures, lots of measurements and decided that my box spring had a stain and that I sat on the bed too much. I do not sit on the bed too much. I weigh 275lbs. Sleeping on my side of the bed, my butt hangs close to the edge. When I turn around on bed, my knees will hang over the bed.

After 4 years of a sagging attress we contacted the store aout the replacement policy on our Sealy Posturepedic mattress. They sent the moves our to look at it and said they would get back to us. two weeks later I caled o see where we stood on it with the owner. He said Sealywold not honor he warrenty due to staining on the mattress. I sent the following letter to Sealy.
Rick Reed 4948 Denny Street Columbus, Indiana, 47201 Sealy Company Headquarters Attn: Consumer Support One Office Parkway at Sealy Dr Trinity, NC 27370 March 12, 2009 Dear Sealy: I wanted to write and let you know how disappointed I am in your product and warranty. We purchased a Posturepedic Mattress set four years ago from a local vender. We were pleased the first year. The second year we noticed a break down in the bedding. After recently speaking to another mattress dealer who sells Sealy he suggested we ask about the warranty. We had no clue when we purchased the set four years ago there was a long term warranty. The vender did not mention it when we made the purchase. How convenient there was no guarantee mentioned. Hide it and think no one will notice. After contacting the store about the warranty they said they had no record of our purchase. After I produced the cancelled check (we spent $15 on to get) they amazingly found our records. After the store sent 2 furniture movers to check out the mattress two weeks ago I finally called today to find out where we stood. They said the warranty was void due to 2 small stains on the mattress. Guess Sealy doesnt really guarantee their product. Id like to know how you can manufacture a product and guarantee it under false terms and because of a stain on a mattress will not live up to your commitment. The stain has no effect on the quality of the product. You made a bad product and use terminology to get out of it. After thinking Sealy was a great brand I realize how wrong I was! I will not be buying any product made by you ever again and research online any product you might make. I will also do two things. First I will contact my state attorney general about this and also let all friends and family know your company does not guarantee your products if you stain it. I imagine you have other ways to get out of guarantees as well. You are as bad as the greedy companies that have helped bring this country down economy. Rick Reed March 25,2009. I received a response from Sealy saying tey would ot honor the warrenty because of the stain.

Purchased an EXTRA FIRM KING SIZE SEALY MATTRESS several years ago. The store [?] in Hot Springs, AR, where I purchased the mattress, said I could get a replacement if the sag was over 2 [2 years after purchase at that time]....almost, but not quite, 2 was the result. For years I have had extra firm custom-made VERLO mattresses but chose the SEALY for convenience issues. The sag, the bumps, and the slope of the bed cause poor sleep and pain on waking in the AM - not good for mattresses purchased to be kind to a traumatized spine. Will never buy a SEALY again.

We purchased a Sealy queen pillow top mattress at our local furniture store in February of 2007. It came with a 10 year warrenty. We had a furniture tech guy from furniture store come out to assess mattress indentations. He agreed that dips were greater than 1 1/2 inches meanining a defective mattress. However, due to small stain the warrenty was not valid. He said he sees this everytime he does a bedding check.

Our first dealing with Sealy was after the purchase of their RightTouch pillowtop mattress set. We asked to exchange for a different Sealy bed due to the discomfort with this one. We went to Sealy instead of store since the store informed us the bed could not be returned. Sealy told us we could not return the bed due to discomfort since you are able to adjust to firm/softness desired. We had not choice but to live with this $2000 mistake. Upon moving our bedroom around and taking mattress apart, we have discovered mold growing within the layers of the mattress. We have very low humidity in our home as the climate is controlled through central air/heating. No other pieces of furniture have signs of a mold problem, only this mattress. I have contacted Sealy and await a reply. However I want to warn consumers as soon as possible to avoid purchasing the Sealy Right Touch pillowtop mattress so they do not experience this themselvs.
