About Uprova

Uprova is a tribal lending entity offering installment loans as alternatives to traditional payday loans. Uprova markets itself towards borrowers with all credit scores, and its proprietary assessment system checks to see if a customer is a good fit for the brand while also considering if they can actually afford a loan. However, not all applicants are guaranteed approval, and Uprova may run credit checks in certain situations.

What is Uprova?

Uprova is a company offering installment loans for borrowers with various types of credit. Uprova has an online application and funding process, and it can provide funds in under 30 minutes. The company is wholly owned by The Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake tribe.

Uprova’s loans are not available to residents of every state, and the Tribe may change the states it accepts applications from. Check Uprova’s website to see if its services are available to you when you’re ready to borrow.

How does Uprova work?

After you fill out Uprova’s online application, you should know if you are approved within seconds of submission. If you’re approved, funding should be available in under 30 minutes.

Uprova doesn’t charge any sort of application fee, but it may check your credit. However, one of Uprova’s standout features is its proprietary assessment tool, which judges your ability to pay back a loan — not just your credit score. Uprova offers loans for a variety of people, credit scores and financial situations (although rates might not be ideal in some cases.)

Uprova loans

Uprova has pages on its website for personal loans and tribal loans. Tribal loans have fixed terms and multiple installments. Uprova is able to offer these loans because it's an arm of the Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake tribe.

Uprova’s loans are available in amounts between $300 and $5,000. There are no application, origination or prepayment penalties. Uprova states that its loans can be repaid in 20 biweekly payments, which averages out to a little over nine months. A disclaimer on its website corroborates this, stating that terms can range from nine to 36 months. There are no collateral requirements.

Uprova rates

Uprova doesn’t provide much upfront information about its rates, but according to a disclaimer on its website, representative examples might have APRs ranging from 34.5% to 35.99% and terms ranging from nine to 36 months. Check your rate with Uprova to get a more concrete number based on your personal financial situation.

Uprova’s loans come with fixed rates, fixed terms and fixed, biweekly payment schedules. There are no prepayment penalties.

Uprova FAQ

Is Uprova a payday loan?
No. Uprova offers fixed-term installment loans. Unlike payday loans, which have aggressively short terms and are designed to be paid back in a single installment, installment loans tend to have multiple installments, fixed terms and lower APRs.
Does Uprova check your credit?
Uprova might check your credit score. However, it offers loans for borrowers with a variety of credit scores.
Where is Uprova located?
Uprova is located in Upper Lake, California. Uprova is owned by the Habematolel Pomo of Upper Lake.
How do I contact Uprova?
You can contact Uprova by phone, email or mail. Check its website for specific contact info. The company is available Monday through Friday, excluding certain federal holidays.

Is Uprova legit?

Uprova offers financial solutions for borrowers who want an alternative to payday loans. The company’s loans have some appealing features, but it’s ultimately up to you to weigh the benefits of a loan against its costs, including interest and potential fees. Check with Uprova to see what rates are available to you, and make sure you can afford to repay your loan before borrowing.

My experience with this company so far hasn’t been too bad. I read many of the reviews so I was kinda scared to accept. I really needed the help so I went ahead and accepted a smaller amount than what I was approved for and my money was sent within few minutes, very fast and hassle free. I understand this is a business and they do charge more than what other companies charge but honestly I just appreciate the help at a time that I really needed it! I recommend if you need the help then only take what you need. That way you will not owe as much. Thank you UPROVA for your help.

The annual percentage rate was a whopping 542.05% for an $800 loan. If I had the payments, I would have had to pay back at total of $3105.08!! That’s highway robbery and my credit isn’t even that bad! I just needed funds quickly. The process was easy…a little too easy. You know what they say, if it’s too good to be true, it probably is. I applied and was approved the same day. I selected the next-day funds option and received the funds of $800 timely, by direct deposit.

I was not aware of the interest rate before applying which was VERY stupid of me but thank GOD I was able to pay off the loan within the same week, with no interest. I was going to say if you are able to pay off the funds within the same week apply. But honestly, I wouldn’t even take that chance. Stay away from companies like this because they prey on the financially strapped.

I don't understand how borrowing 1200 equals paying back 4699! I do not understand why these people would do this to someone. If I had that kind of money to throw away, I wouldn't need their loan. They say they are not a payday loan company, no...They are 1000% worse than any payday loan company I have ever used. This is criminal behavior and they are allowed to do this without fear of consequences. Read the fine print, no matter how desperate things may seem where you need a loan, it will be worse if you are actually approved. It's better if you're denied.

First off, positive reviews on other sites have to be bogus. Plus Uprova will flag factual reviews and websites like Trustpilot will remove them. This is why their reviews are seemingly glowing when in reality, this company is using predatory practices to entice people who are in need of unethical loans. If you are in a financial bind, do what you can to get money elsewhere. If no other options, use this service only if you plan on paying loan in full immediately.

Having said this, first experience went super smooth. What was great is that funding happened within minutes. Loan was paid in full less than a week later, no interest. The second and last time I use this service, funding took much longer (if you are in need of fast funds over the weekend, don’t count on Uprova). Received funds late Monday, went to pay in full the very following Thursday and already had accrued interest. Horrible website would not allow me to make same day payment so I scheduled payment on the following day with even more interest. If you choose to pay installments on one of their loans, you will be paying 4-5 times more in interest. Imagine paying these people $4000 for a $1000 loan. No thank you and never again.

THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT GOING ON WITH THEM CURRENTLY. And if you don't believe me then please google WALTON vs. UPROVA CREDIT LLC. I took a loan through them because I am a single mom of three children struggling to make ends meet. My loan agreement clearly states that I am to pay $265 BI-WEEKLY and noticed that last two times they have taken money from my account is has been a total of $288. I called them and they said I am charged more money now because I changed my scheduled payments to BI-WEEKLY when my loan document clearly states that it was already set at BI-WEEKLY. Not to mention the 430.71% interest rate. I did my homework and found that yearly interest rates of 139% violates various Illinois civil and criminal statutes.

On March 23, 2021 Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker signed a bill into law that will cap rates at 36% on consumer loans. The Predatory Loan Prevention Act will substantially restrict any entity from making usurious loans to consumers in Illinois. Also I recommended that you get on the Better Business Bureau website and look at the list of complaints and reviews that people have against them. They are not BBB Accredited. They are a bunch of thieves and liars and I don't understand how any one of them can feel okay with what they do to people. If they want to try to take all the money they can away from me and ruin my credit ILLEGALLY then I will do what it takes to ruin their reputation and shut them down.

These people have affected my mental health by causing me more anxiety and depression than I can even begin to describe. I may not have the financial means to hire a lawyer but I contacted some family members who do have the financial means to help me get justice and they are more than willing to help me pay for legal advice and action. I live in Illinois and finally contacted a lawyer today. If you live in Illinois I suggest you do the same!

I have done really well paying my loan off on time but this month it's going to be late and I won't be able to make the full payment. I am willing to pay whatever i owe but customer service was no help saying can't change anything with my loan or the agreement. They have robbed me on the high interest. Seriously I have learned from this mistake and will not be returning or talking to their customer service about refinacing my loan which they will make it harder to pay off. Overall a sad company with a poor working website that don't work and no help or suggestions to help customers working with you.

Uprova is the absolute worst finance company to request a payment deferral. In an effort to try and get my loan paid off, they are not willing to allow individuals an extension "saying their computer system does not allow them to change a payment due date." However, when the payment is returned to them for nsf at that point they will discuss other payment options. Seriously?

The worst ever. It's like lying to you and you're not seeing the big picture. Getting a $600 loan and paying back over 2000. Wow. This will make me never to get a loan again. You guys need to be sued. I will never deal with this company again. This not a company, it's a Rip Off at its best. Taking them to court. Whatever you do please do not borrow from this place.

Here's one of the biggest rip-offs ever. For $600, I have to pay back over $2000. I guess they lied to you. They didn't show you all this, I guess. I should have read it but I didn't. My fault. But I'll give you the worst review ever. This was a rip-off. They shouldn't be allowed to do this to people, especially senior citizens because we didn't have time to read it and it's too small to read. This is ridiculous. Thank you.

Interest rates are insane, over 300%. If something happens during the years and you need to adjust a payment it’s impossible. They will not edit or cancel any payments. Customer service is very unfriendly.
