Sezzle loan products

Sezzle offers three convenient "buy now, pay later" (BNPL) options to help you manage your purchases. Here's a breakdown of the plans:

  • Pay in 2: With this interest-free option, you'll pay half of your total purchase upfront, and the remaining half two weeks later.
  • Pay in 4: This plan also has no interest, provided you pay on time. It divides your purchase into four equal payments over six weeks. You make one payment at the time of purchase, and the other three every two weeks.
  • Pay Monthly: For larger purchases, this installment plan allows you to spread your payments over a period of three to 48 months. APR may vary based on creditworthiness.

Sezzle offers two optional membership plans, Premium and Anywhere, which enhance your "buy now, pay later" experience with extra perks. Both plans give you benefits like special discounts and the flexibility of rescheduling one free payment per order.

  • Premium ($12.99/month): This plan expands your shopping options, allowing you to use Sezzle's Pay in 4 plan at more than 350 additional brands.
  • Anywhere ($17.99/month): This plan provides even greater flexibility, giving you a virtual card that you can use for Sezzle Pay in 4 plan at any merchant that accepts Visa.

Sezzle rates

Sezzle does not publicly disclose the Annual Percentage Rate (APR) range for its BNPL plans. However, several factors typically determine your APR, including your creditworthiness, the type of payment plan and the length of the repayment term. For instance, longer repayment periods usually have higher APRs.

Sezzle fees

While Sezzle's Pay in 2 and Pay in 4 plans are interest-free, a service fee of up to $7.49 may be charged each time you originate one of these plans. Additionally, other fees may apply, including:

  • Late Payment: A fee of up to $16.95, or no more than 25% of the purchase order amount, may be charged for each late payment.
  • Late Saver Fee: A $1.50 fee is applied if your bank account is not set as your default payment method.
  • Payment Reschedule: After one complimentary reschedule, each subsequent payment reschedule incurs a $2.00 fee.
  • Failed Payment: If a payment fails due to insufficient funds or other reasons, a fee of up to $6.95, or no more than 25% of the purchase order amount, may be charged per instance.
  • Load Fee: Each time you add funds to your Sezzle balance, a fee of up to $4.99 may apply.
  • Inactivity Fee: An inactivity fee of up to $5.00 may be charged if your Sezzle account balance remains inactive for at least 12 consecutive months.

Before committing to a BNPL plan with Sezzle, it's important to understand all potential user fees. You can find applicable fees published on Sezzle's website and also within the agreement you sign before activating services.

How to apply for a Sezzle loan

Signing up for Sezzle takes only a few minutes. You can create an account by visiting its website and clicking "Shopper Signup" or by using its mobile app.

To be eligible for a Sezzle account, you'll need to meet the following requirements:

  • Be at least 18 years old.
  • Live in the U.S.
  • Be able to receive verification codes via text message.

Here's a breakdown of the Sezzle signup process:

  1. Verify your phone number: During signup, you'll first provide your mobile phone number. Sezzle will send a verification code to this number, which you'll need to enter to continue.
  2. Enter personal details: Next, you'll provide your first and last name, birthday and email address. Another verification code will be sent to your email.
  3. Set up security and enter address: Then, you'll create a four-digit PIN code and enter your home address.
  4. Authorize a soft credit check: Finally, you'll enter your Social Security number. Sezzle uses this to conduct a soft credit check, which won't impact your credit score. You can still sign up without entering your SSN initially, but you'll need to provide it later when you apply for a BNPL plan.

Once you’ve created an account, you can browse merchants that accept Sezzle payment plans and add funds to your balance. Keep in mind that before making your first purchase, the company requires a debit or credit card number linked to your account for automatic payments.

Sezzle FAQ

What is Sezzle?

Sezzle is a buy now, pay later (BNPL) company. It is a certified B Corporation, a designation from B Lab that signifies its commitment to high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability and transparency across its operations. While a for-profit company, Sezzle explicitly states its mission to financially empower the next generation.

Sezzle offers three BNPL plans: Pay in 2, Pay in 4 and Pay Monthly. Each plan offers flexible financing, allowing consumers to choose a payment schedule that best suits their budget and needs.

Can I get a Sezzle loan with bad credit?

Yes, you might still get approved for a Sezzle BNPL plan even if you have a less-than-perfect credit score. While Sezzle does perform a soft credit check (which won't harm your score), you're generally more likely to be approved for smaller purchases.

For those looking to improve their credit, consider joining the Sezzle Up program. This allows your Sezzle payment history to be reported to credit bureaus. Making consistent, on-time payments through this program could help boost your credit score.

Can Sezzle be used anywhere?

You can use Sezzle at over 40,000 merchants online or in-store. Plus, if you have a Sezzle Anywhere subscription, you get a virtual card that works with almost any merchant that accepts Visa payments (though some exceptions apply).

Not customer friendly, will bombard your bank account even when you ask them not to, they will use old cards on file and make every attempt to collect even while you have NOT received what you purchased- advised them- they have opened a claim- but they could care less- opinion pay or else! and they are aware of your situation and have. Let the buyer be very aware!

Before you sign the agreement, you need to read the entire document and understand everything. Be aware that any company that doesn't list their phone number under their Contact US link should be avoided at all cost. Multiple errors occurred during the payment set up beginning to end. I believe that Sezzle delays their end of processing time to enable late fees to be applied. I have been experiencing errors attempting to remove my credit card and bank information from my account. I am not able to delete my account. The Chat sessions leave much to be desired with issues left unsolved. Email contacts result in receiving prepopulated responses basically telling you to go back and read the sezzle agreement. At this time I am still waiting to remove all my information from sezzle and delete my account.

I used Sezzle for an order that totaled $35. I applied $15 of Sezzle Spend promotional credit. Later, part of the order was refunded, making the new total $18.54. Instead of applying the $15 credit toward the adjusted total, Sezzle used an undisclosed internal policy to reverse my promotional credit, shift my installments around, and then charged me $11.51 on my credit card and moved the remaining balance to my debit card. I ended up paying over $21 for an $18.54 order, even though I had applied $15 in credit.

Nothing in their Terms of Service explains that partial refunds would remove or reassign Sezzle Spend. In fact, my account still showed the $15 credit applied, which contradicts their claim that they “reinstated” it. There is no publicly visible policy explaining why a consumer should be charged more after applying a promotional credit.

When I asked customer support, the agent told me to “close my account” instead of helping. When I filed a BBB complaint, Sezzle refused to address anything publicly and repeatedly claimed they contacted me hours before they actually emailed me (I have timestamps proving the difference). They hid behind “privacy concerns” to avoid answering the BBB’s questions.

I then filed a complaint with the CFPB. Sezzle responded with the same copy-paste explanation, repeating internal policies that do not appear anywhere in their published terms. They stated they acted according to federal and state laws but still refused to correct the overcharge or follow their officially disclosed refund rules. After the CFPB closed the case with “explanation,” I disputed the incorrect credit-card charge myself. I also closed my Sezzle account because this platform does not operate transparently and does not disclose how promotional credits are really handled. In short:

      – I was overcharged.
      – Their refund logic is not disclosed anywhere in their terms.
      – Support told me to delete my account.
      – They misrepresented communication timing to the BBB.
      – They refused to address the issue publicly.
      – CFPB complaint resulted in another copy-paste explanation.

      – I had to fix the billing error myself.

If you are considering Sezzle, be aware that their promotional credits and refund policies are not transparent, and you may end up paying more than the adjusted order total. I will not be using this service again.

I used Sezzle in the past with over a dozen paid on time purchases, but a recent order proved to be devastating as they are laden with hidden fees as well as not accepting debit cards to any payment except the first. I always paid with two cards and now without a bank I have to load the Sezzle App. Get charged $4.99 to do so and then I realized that if I didn’t load their app the cards would not be used to draw the payment causing a late fee so they are making money hand over foot. None of this information was made known and it just came out of the blue. What makes thing so terrible is almost a month later the store I purchased from still haven’t sent out the product. I WILL NEVER EVER USE SEZZLE AGAIN UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES.

Sezzle has been contacted multiple times via online support as well as by phone which no one ever answers. They deducted a payment and cancelled an order they refuse to take accountability for or refund, even with provided documentation and screenshots. As an avid Sezzle user, I'm deeply disappointed and out of $84 with no solution. My next step is disputing with the bank!

Do not use this service unless you like hidden fees and terrible customer service where all they do is ignore your question till it's too late and then send you snippets from other locations that you can read yourself. They do that over and over and NEVER ACTUALLY HELP!

They charge me a 1.99 late fee for not having two accounts! They have my checking account, why do they need a savings account also. I've never been late! They still charge 1.99 every payment because they don't have 2 accounts? Is this legal? We'll see because I'm reporting them to the BBB. Good luck, scammers.
