How does GO2bank work?

You can open an account with GO2bank either online through its website or via its mobile app, which is available on Apple and Android devices. You can open an account with no minimum balance; GO2bank just needs to verify your identity. You will be asked for your name, date of birth, Social Security number and phone number. Supporting documents may be required.

After opening an account, you’ll receive a debit card in seven to 10 days. You can use the card anywhere Visa debit is accepted in the U.S. With GO2bank, you can also:

    I do not recommend this bank, if you want your check 2 days early, it is 5:30 on a Wednesday, when I usually get my check at 3:20 from my previous bank. When I come over to this bank, I don't get my check 2 days early, like they claimed this Bank is a joke and it sucks.

    This is one of worst experience I have ever came across in my 35 years of living in USA for a banking company. The mobile app as well as the websites demands your SS#, DOB, full address, etc. & yet none of the 4 GO2bank debit cards which I bought from CVS Pharmacy & loaded them for a total of $1980 & paid $11.80 fees & The receipt as well as the package shows ready to use and activated. But when trying to use the card, it ask to download the app. Once the app is downloaded, you can activate only 1 card. Then comes the next surprise, each card needs a different email, then w/o having a pin set up you cannot activate the card. Now comes the biggest of all, until you get a chip card mailed to you, one cannot use the ATM for withdrawals.

    The best part of it is that once you get an error activating your card, you have to wait for 1-2 hrs to try activating again. I have waited for 5 days & called their help desk and customer service almost 10 times & they make me do the same procedure repeatedly, in spite of me letting them know that if I do it, it shall again show an error message & ask me to try back later. The customer service agents are located all over in Asia call center & I have to repeat the entire story again with each of them whom the call is transferred, it has become so frustrating that I call CVS Customer Relations & they escaped by stating to call Green Dot at 1-866-652-4611, ext #** to get a resolution for the same.

    One cannot a refund on these debit card if it loaded. My 4 cards loaded with $1980, the package says "no monthly fees, free ATM network, & Ready to use." All of them are false advertisements printed on the card. Once cannot use the card unless it is replaced with a chip card for any banking transfers. The card could solely be used for retail purchases & not for any banking activity. Why would the FDIC back a card which is asking for the personal information details like SS#, DOB & ADDRESS for verification.

    How can one be assured that the information is secured on a mobile app or website of GO2BANK cards is the question to be asked to Consumer Bureau of Affairs as well as the FDIC. It is printed on back of the card "Member FDIC pursuant to a license for VISA, USA." It ridiculous that the FDIC gives an authentication for the customers prior to examining the details and procedure of the legality & harassment and challenges a consumer has to face when purchasing a card & how his finances are in jeopardy once card is purchased and loaded at a well known Pharmacy retail outlet CVS.

    I would request the Consumer affairs, The Federal Trade commission as well as the FDIC to investigate in this card which is promoted by Green Dot to save future buyers of this card what I have gone thru and still going thru to get a refund of my 4 GO2bank cards purchased as of 06/30/26 & yet could not activate the cards on the mobile app as well as the website.

    It has been a nightmare for me for past 5 days on the 250th birthday of our great country which I was not able to celebrate nor could give a gift to my daughter due to my finances stuck on these 4 cards purchased, loaded with $500 each and could not activate nor could make use of it. It so ridiculous that an advance country like our still allow this scrupulous companies to promote a banking app & dupe the customers for 21 days to get their money back with a website & mobile app not working efficiently & w/o any security of authentication of demanding & gathering personal & private information for identity theft.

      This is the worst banking experience I’ve ever had. They create fraudulent transactions on your account so they have to replace your card…. Then make it impossible for you to access your own damn money!! My bills are past due… card takes forever… and everything you can think to do goes against their policy. Customer service is horrible and they never solve anything. I hate that I ever gave them my business. Then if you wanna close your account you have to wait 3 weeks for a check!

      This is the worst bank ever. Do not trust them. Customer service sucks. They do not help you. I close my account May 18 and I have transaction and my account that they say that was not even me. They will not even dispute the transaction. I am currently -$281 in the account which I’ve never made and when I called customer service, the guy was worrying about my frustration and telling me to calm down or he won’t be able to help me. I had me on speaker on an intercom or something, and when I asked for the higher manager, another person came on the phone a scam artist was telling me that it was made by me. Don’t ever bank with these people. They are a scammer, the worst person to trust with your information and they could take the $281 and stuff suck it up they **.

      Don't ever use this bank!! I went back and forth with these people about getting money off my card to put it in another account and they kept telling me over and over that my expire date did not match what The card I was putting in. WHAT?? Then that is their mistake to fix. For 4 days I tried to get my money and finally I just closed the account and they send you a code to go pick it up at Walmart! That's about the dumbest thing I have ever heard of. They wouldn't let me move some money out but then they send it to Walmart for you to pick up! Ridiculous. They could have just fixed the date they had wrong! Whatever. Glad it's over!!

      I had a Go2bank account for years getting direct deposit for my father's social security check because I was his power of attorney and designated representative through the social security office. Well he died last year and go 2 bank locked up my account stating that they got a notice that my dad passed. I let them know that he did pass away. They have my money locked in the account. They said that they needed a letter stating that I wasn't deceased since the account was in my name and the social security office gave me a letter stating that and I sent it to their corporate office for review.

      They said the account can't be opened back up, but they have yet to send my money to me via check. They said they would even send it back to the social security office, but they haven't even did that. I have approval from the social security office that the funds belong to me and social security said that once funds are sent out they don't recoup them. So why won't they send me my money to me? If anyone knows who I can contact about this matter please let me know?

      Used my go-to bank debit card to purchase items at Merchant. The Merchant immediately canceled the transaction due to an error that occurred on the merchant's end. The money was put on hold out of my account and shown as pending. Called The Merchant and was told that in their system it shows the transaction was canceled and they received no money. Contacted GO2bank customer support and was told that the refund takes time and told me that they could not release the hold on a pending charge. However immediately following the next day used my go-to debit card to make a purchase at a different Merchant and it posted to my account and was not showing as pending.

      If you make a purchase at a merchants for any amount that amount is released and no longer pending within one day. Yet a refund to the card or a canceled transaction by the merchant that was done immediately after the transaction occurred by the merchant and was told that it took 10 days for it to no longer show as pending but show as credit did back to my account.

      Customer service was extremely poor and very rude and there's no reason why they have to hold the funds for that long to process a refund but yet a purchase legitimately without any disputes or canceled transactions immediately after the purchase is made takes only one day to post from pending to the account. Couldn't get anywhere with these people. As soon as my refund comes in I am canceling this account, closing it out and I will never use this Bank ever again. It is the worst online banking app I have ever experienced out of all of the others that I have tried. Do not recommend opening an account with this app. I will stick with Chime, Cash App, etc., etc.

      I received GO2bank card for income tax refund. I activated the card and have been trying to talk to someone for an hour. When I check the card balance it stated there was no funds available. I chose this option for my refund and I'm disappointed that I could not speak to anyone or assess the account online.
