I sent my sister money in TX. I received a reference #. However, my sister could not pick up the money on the other end. Calling 800. 926.9400 for MoneyGram customer service only added to my frustration. I received an "excessive call volume" automated message and held on for 25 minutes before I hung up without speaking to an agent. I tried sending money again via online MoneyGram. Again, money could not be picked up by my sister (waiting to pay for heart medication). No explanation given. When I finally reached a MoneyGram CSR, at 2:00a CST; she was rude, non-emphatic. After a litany of unnecessary questions about why I was sending money, I cancelled the transaction. I will NEVER use MoneyGram again. And will tell that will listen the same.

I have used moneygram several times throughout the last few years but my latest experience was totally unacceptable and I will never use the service again. I went to pick up a Money transfer, once the transaction # was entered, it said "the money is on hold, contact customer service." When calling customer service I was constantly placed on hold and transferred around in circles. This continued for more than 4 hours and my problem was never corrected. The customer service center eventually told me to have the sender call, so we called on three way and they still did not help us resolve the problem. After being on hold for 45 minutes, the rep said he was transferring us to another department and he disconnected us. There was no way I was going to call and be on hold for another hour so I told my brother to get his money back and try western union. It was a cash transaction so I don't understand why it was so complicated but I will never use this service again.

I sent a friend $200, there was only 1 MG location near her, next to her job. After work, she went there and no employee on duty had a clue how to work the MG system. I told her I'd send it via Western Union, up the road 5 minutes, tho I've had a MG account for years, it would be easier and I'd just cancel the MG... I was told I'd be credited in.......get this.....3 TO 10 BUSINESS DAYS!!!!! What??!!? It takes mere seconds to post out of my account, can be sent and picked up thousands of miles away in 10 minutes, but it takes up to 10 business days to go back the other way? I'm fuming...I send 15-20 transactions a year on average... That all stops now... Never again will I use the services of MoneyGram and I don't care how bad I may feel the need to...

It was very important, Xmas eve and my friend in the USA needed money for a meal. After an hours wait, moneygram decides to say that money has NOT been sent and refuses to even login, citing system issues. DO NOT USE THEM AT ALL FOR ANYTHING. I'm very very pissed with them, this was important and they decide to have issue right at this point?

And then give no reason. Do they think I am scamming myself? Probably! I would not mind if they tell me the reason... But they refuse... This is an insult and a problem... If there is an issue then I want to know what it is of course. So I can take the appropriate steps. Just give me the reason. Idiots.. But this caused me big problem now. Just before Xmas. Can anyone suggest a means of transfer? No questions asked?

I was trying to send money to a friend in the UK and after I finished setup and entered my credit information mind you it says that using credit will make the transaction 10 minutes hence the reason for the $15 charge. My account was charged then a status message that said contact MoneyGram appeared. I called them and explained the situation, they hung on me. I called 5 more times and every single time I explained the issue they promptly hung up on me, so now I can have $200 tied up with MoneyGram and a friend in an emergency that I can not help. WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT USE THIS SERVICE, YOU WILL BE SORRY. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD IF YOU HEAR OR SEE THE NAME MONEYGRAM RUN TO THE POLICE AND REPORT THEM AS A FRAUDULENT COMPANY. Please spread the word, tell everyone and anyone that MoneyGram is a fraudulent company who steals client funds.

Took the time to ask for more personal information but not to help me troubleshoot the decline. Great way to treat your customers badly and instill distrust. This by a company that claims to be secure. Fire your PR department and hire logical thinkers so your company can survive. Textbook way for a company to fail. I too had a much better time with Western Union.

I'm trying to send emergency money to my family in another state. DO NOT USE Walmart/MoneyGram for this purpose. I paid extra for the 10-minute service, only to be told that it can take up to an hour to process the transaction. I demanded that they refund the $19.00 fee and change it to the $11.50 fee, since they aren't delivering what they promise. No way. On top of that, the instructions are not clear about what to do once the initial transaction is submitted; it says click on "send again" to complete the transaction. You can guess what happened. The transaction was submitted twice, nearly overdrawing my bank account.
The customer service representative (heavily accented voice, probably in India or somewhere else, certainly not in the United States) was less than helpful. If you like frustration and being lied to, this is the service for you.

We are a church, making efforts to support men who are preaching in other countries. We chose MoneyGram to use in transferring money to men who ARE personally known by members of the church. We made efforts to send funds in 9 different transactions... only 1 of those 9 processed. The rest were immediately canceled by MoneyGram. I received a call after the first couple of attempts from MoneyGram with the security questions (which I know and understand have to be asked to avoid fraud and scam - and the call didn't offend me at all) BUT after a few seconds on the phone, the man said, "Sorry, you can't make these transactions." I responded with, "So I can't use MoneyGram at all to support men overseas preaching," and he responded, "No sir, you can't."
I understand denying services to those seeming suspicious, but denying services to good people doesn't seem right to me. When asked by others in the future about MoneyGram, I will most definitely be honest about my experiences. I guarantee they will not use MoneyGram after speaking with me.

Do not depend on moneygram at Walmart to send someone money if it is important!!! It sounds like a safe, simple, good idea - it promises a 10 minute transaction with a credit card but this is not at all what you get. I was given an authorization number within 30 minutes not 10. But then 2 and 1/2 hours later I received an automated message by email that the transaction was not approved. I tried with a second credit card and received no response from walmart at all, automated or not!!!!!! There was no reason given whatsoever and after checking with my bank I found that both credit cards were perfectly fine and there was no reason on their end for the transactions to not be approved. This makes me feel very uneasy about any online transaction with Walmart! I would NOT recommend this company to anyone who needs trustworthy, reliable service!

So I create an online account, do all the security questions, submit the transaction on a card I know has amount needed. It says I have to call them and I do. They ask a few questions about who and why I send money to. They say "ok, the system will update in 10 min." It comes back with an error - please call support. I do and they say, it's not my card it's their "Security System" that thinks the transaction is suspicious. I ask for more details and they say no. I hang up. I try again, same result and when I talked to them again, they say there is no one in the company for me to talk to like the "Security Dept". They are so unprofessional. I sent money to a friend in another country and MoneyGram did not release the money to them. I have sent money to my friend several times before with no problems and I did not understand why they would stop this transaction. MoneyGram people began to ask me very personal questions about my relationship to my friend, which I feel was very offensive. The man that I was trying to communicate with was very rude and he talked over me the whole time. The friend I was sending money to I've known for 3 years. When they would not release the money, I just got a refund and sent the money another way to my friend. The rude man I spoke to at MoneyGram began to tell me that I was being scammed but that was clearly not the case. I tried to explain to this man that I was aware of scams that do occur but he just would not listen to me and instead just told me what to do with my own money. I will not use MoneyGram again. I sent someone $550.00. This is obviously someone fallen on hard times and without a bank account which I will assume is the bulk of the MG customer base. Having not had to "wire" money to anyone in the last, um, 30 years or so, and that was Western Union, I assumed it would go through hassle free. I went to CVS, sent the 550 and in ten minutes he had SOME cash. They only wanted to give him 350 cash and the rest in a Money order but he wouldn't budge. So he got 500 cash and a 50 mom. He cannot cash this money order ANYWHERE!
MG when I complained said "it's clearly stated in our terms that the issuer has the right to distribute the monies per their policy and availability." Would that be in the 2 pt font somewhere after something? These companies may be of service to some but they prey on people who have to fly off the grid. He is mailing me the mo back so I can deposit it to my bank account. Waste - next time I pay the extra 8 bucks and send it Western Union.

I had two transactions block and also noticed a transaction with a name Mickey Mouse and .01 was made. I believe that test transaction as they say was made to sabotage the account. After questioning me expecting me to recall names I received from recently they told me my name would be blocked. I would like to appeal the decision since it is my sincere held belief that the decision was not made after careful consideration. Tried to send money to my sister. Usually use Western Union. Thought MoneyGram would be cheaper. 40 minutes later she was at Walmart to receive it. No money there. I had an authorization number but the online MoneyGram screen said "Processing". No email except the "Welcome to MoneyGram" one. I finally reached the overseas call rep from MoneyGram. She explained that I had 2 MoneyGram accounts, and that was why the transaction would not go through. (Why wasn't there a notice any where... or an email, letting me know this was an issue?). In the meantime, the lovely folks at Walmart were closing, and refused to wait until 10pm (it was 9:55). My sister was hysterical on the phone. I cancelled the MoneyGram, and sent the money via WesternUnion in 2 minutes, and for only 5 cents more. She went to the grocery store next door, and got it without further ado. Long story short.... Overall I just want to say I was happy with the service. I think the process in general could be more intuitive, but I understand they need to keep the system the way it is at times to prevent scams and verify identity of people involved. I was recently using Moneygram to transfer funds to Louisiana for a renter, and Moneygram called me shortly after the transfer and helped me identify that I was just scammed. They then canceled the transfer of the funds and I was able to get my money back. Once the transfer was cancel, though the perp was still able to see the status of his transfer. I wanted to catch him or at least his runner in the act and when I got my money back, Moneygram notified him of this. If you know the transfer was involved in a scam, you would think they would flag this transfer for no change in status at the very least. The best would be to work with the person that got scammed to see if they can get law enforcement involved to catch the guy as he tried to pick up the funds.

Over a week ago I went to CVS in San Jose located at Winchester Blvd to send money to one of our engineers in Pakistan total of $950. Five days later, my engineer says he could not collect because Moneygram told him the money is on HOLD. I called Moneygram, as to why he could not get it. They said that they have NO IDEA! So they need to file a claim to investigate. This process took me about 20 min of running around from one to another agent. They gave me a reference number and they will let me know by phone and email. Four days later, nothing! I called them back and got tossed around to finally speak to a "Special Investigative Unit" with a person that lacks any kind of customer service. His name was Patrick and he would not give me his last name, after asking.
After I asked him a simple question "How is it that I send cash money and I paid a fee to do so, and it was not delivered, which it shows it was not delivered, and I demand a refund NOW, and Moneygram is not allowing me a refund of my cash which they are holding? And I paid a fee for this too?" And I asked him "How could he tell me this and follow it by saying it would take about 4 weeks to find an answer???" Patrick had the audacity to tell me "that is the way it is and nothing I can do about it!"
As of today, I got no email, no phone call, no update. They have my $950, and my fee which I paid, and I have no access to my money nor does my engineer.Needless to say, this is the worst customer service, the most rip-off example of the most fraudulent business activity I have ever dealt with. And I will never use or recommend or advise anyone to use such service or company.

The service person who answered asked for a lot of personal information and the information I had entered into their website to set up the payment. After giving this person the information, he said he couldn't give me any information because it was in my husband's name. When I tearfully asked him what I should do next, he hung up on me. Why get the last 4 digits of both mine and my husbands S.S. # if he had no intention of helping me either way. I decided to use MoneyGram instead of western union because the transaction fee was a bit cheaper and the conversion rate a bit better. After I filled in all the information, I was asked to call their call center to verify my identity. Which was a bit annoying but understandable. After waiting 10 minutes in the queue I was asked to provide my previous address, which I did. However this address could not be verified by the system, even though I lived there. So they told me that the only way left was for them to send me an email in 4h, me to reply to the email, them to check my email in 4h, wait 48h to make the transaction. Are you kidding me? Why would I use a same day online to wait 3 days to send the money?! So I cancelled the transaction. There were tons of ways I could have verified my identity without this crap (like sending a copy of my passport, of a bill, etc.). Very very bad customer experience. Will definitely use only western union in the future.

First time experience. No impediments in my application data. Application accepted. Sent amount: $12.50, to a foreign country. Issued "authorization number, advised to wait 3 days, re-call to get "reference number". (Complaint #1: if you have e number, why do you need another?) Waited 3 days. Another representative, re-asked me all the qualifying data I had entered on the first call. (Complaint#2: if I have an AUTHORIZATION number, why am I still asked questions?) The first rep. was rude and insinuating. This one was worse. He asked me 3 times, what the reason was, which I had recorded, for my sending the money. I gave him the explicit answer twice. He was not satisfied with this answer. So I said, "I don't know what you want... OK the real reason is MONEY (to buy 'X')". Then he got argumentative. I said, "OK, what do you want me to say?"
He passed to the next question (of MANY). "Tell me who you're sending it to." I had only practiced the recipient's name a couple times. I spoke it awkwardly. He said "you must not know this person. You didn't pronounce it well!" I said "Is that required?" He said, "what is the amount." I said "$12.50." He said "why are you sending so little?" "Because I don't know of another service whereby I can send that little." He said "what's your authorization number?" (They already make you phone- text it at the start of the call.) There were other questions. Then he said, "phone for your Reference Number in 3 days." I said, "another of your reps. already instructed me to do that. That was the purpose of my call, now, remember?" (no answer.) He said, "that's 3 working days. Pick it up Tuesday, after 2:30." "That's 6 days, not 3!". (no answer). "Your first guy did NOT tell me that! This is highly inconvenient! I can't believe you have never had an objection or complaint!" (no answer) "Meanwhile I have had to explain and apologize to my recipient why they can't go pick up the money. Embarrassing!"
3 days later, I am back on the phone cringing, because of the discomfort. It took a LONG time to get connected. The third rep.was not very rude, but asked me a lot of repeat questions, also. Finally he said "Wait". Another long delay, then "I'm sorry, but your application failed to process." I said, "This is outrageous! You already AUTHORIZED me, I'm in the pick-up phase. The money should already be there -- isn't that what the reference number is for?" (no answer). "What is the reason?" He proceeded to talk in garble, as though practiced by rote. I said, "I don't understand you." He did not respond. I said, "I want to file a complaint. Let me talk to your supervisor." "We don't have supervisors". "Direct me to where, on your web page I may do so." "Go to Home Page, scroll, find 'contact pass'." (I must have a "pass" to complain!?)
Supporting facts: I have excellent credit, no financial impediments, no arrests, no declarations against me in the public domain, paid for the MG in advance, was respectful, even when not treated that way, and can find NO reason for their behavior. They aren't telling me. I appreciate this complaint opportunity in a public forum, because I have serious doubts whether they even record or act on internal complaints. In fact, I must believe their reps. are encouraged to be deliberately obnoxious. But why? It's oxymoronic! Consequences: time loss (critical with money), humiliation, possible discredit, insult to recipient and possible loss of friend, personal internal damage from anger, frustration, deceit by MO--deliberate degradation to promised service, and displacement of effective competition. And by the way, their "fast" service was unaffordable for a small transmit, and at $4 fee for $12 sent, was usury for a very SLOW, and uncertain outcome!

I tried to strain my brain to remember what Model of Subaru I drove in 1982 but it was not meant to be. I began to ask myself - if this was MoneyGram? Or Who Trivial Pursuit or Jeopardy or Who wants to be a Millionaire. I didn't realize I would be given a Barbara Walters type of interview in order to send 30 bucks to my son.
I was first put thru the ringer online, and was then directed to call their customer service number, and once again I was grilled with the most absurd and ridiculous questions dating back to the early 80's. I like to think that I have a decent memory, but I think you have to have the memory of an elephant to remember what you ate for dinner 25 years ago. The first representative quote was: "Are you sure you did not send this money yourself?" With an arrogant tone. I was so offended! He transferred me to the claim department and a nice lady helped me report the claim. The money was obviously picked up and I am not $900 poorer. I contact my bank and they are going to open an investigation and hopefully will be able to give me my money back.
Please do not save your debit or credit card information on moneygram! It is not safe! Not safe! Not safe! Some unscrupulous people that instead of getting a real job and make some decent money, they rather steal from hard working people. It is just so sad. How could there be people like this! Man get a damn job! I'm sure you will make great deal of money with those skills.

Money order was initially lost by the US post office and to make things even worse at the same time I had lost my copied receipt given by the CVS. So having no solid proof I found the way to fill this lost number form and that's where the fun begins! As it was over month ago that I purchased and sent my order I have forgotten the actually date of the purchase. Was it 25th or 26th?? Hmmm... can't seem to remember. Now did I mention that they ask me for $40 to retrieve my order? Yes $40! Even better make it 2 times $40 now... One for to check for the 25th date and one to check for the 26th date? Lol. Their help seems outrageously expensive! Almost as I'm dealing with bunch of crooks! No help, no customer service! No money back in decent and fair way. Don't do business with this company they are only out there to rip you off! And I've been their customer for years. Bravo!

After theft my wife needed an emergency cash transfer. Made through MoneyGram 10-minute service. They happily took my fee & money, NEVER provided my wife anything! My wife and 10-year-old daughter while in Spain, Barcelona on Saturday August 2nd got robbed of ALL cash, bank & credit cards. The next morning, to help them I had to travel to the next city - Almere - here in Holland to make an emergency money transfer... to use the MoneyGram 10-minute emergency service, after I discovered No service was available in my own town, Lelystad.
PAYMENT DETAILS: receiving Agent **. Reference number **. Date August 3rd. Amount 300 Fee 11,99. Transfer was urgent! After all, one needs money for food, drinks (travel and other enjoyments during a holiday). MoneyGram was only too happy to take my money and my fee, but subsequently failed to provide any money, any service whatsoever to my wife & daughter, who were forced to go from Agent to agent on foot. At one point in utter frustration I called their "Service Desk" here in Holland, got transferred to another call center, and after heated discussion got them to make calls to agents/locations in Spain. They called ELEVEN MG agents or whatever, nothing! Not ONE was "able" to provide a paltry 300,00. Are you ** me?
Instead of trying to make up for it now they tell me *I* must go claim compensation from the Spanish agents? I hired & paid MoneyGram for a specific money transfer service, and was charged a fee. I did NOT hire a specific Spanish MG agent in Barcelona to provide that service! (who is no doubt under contract to MoneyGram in the first place). The MoneyGram's position is: "We accept your money and your fee but are not held to deliver anything and can not be held accountable" and are brushing me off. I took the matter to Social Media on August 10th. Within a minute a Rep was on the case... to try and smother the flames, NOT to provide a service or solution.
They claimed "the case was closed on August 8th" WHICH WAS NEWS TO ME! I would think you'd need a consent, an agreement between parties to say a case is closed... I would also expect a SMART PR Dept. to say something like, "A serious breakdown in our level of service, should never have happened. We will investigate and remedy the problem. Thanks for bringing this to our attention"... instead of a "Get lost & go ** yourself" on Twitter.

I had sent money to a friend in Romania and when she went to pick it up she was told the number was not valid. So I rung moneygram asking them what had happened, they did not know or would not tell me. So I asked them to cancel the transaction which the woman said ok she would cancel and she then informed me the transaction was cancelled and I got an email stating the transaction was cancelled. And also in my account it showed the transaction was cancelled, this was on the 4th July 2014 so I thought no more of it and then on the 31st of July 2014 the transaction was taken from my card. I then rang them and asked what was going on and the first person I spoke to admitted to me that although my account showed the transaction was cancelled it was actually received.
I asked how is this possible and I was told their system had a glitch. I said I was not happy as this is their fault and not mine as once a transaction is cancelled then it is cancelled. And if they paid it out after cancellation this is their problem and why should I be made to pay for there mistake. Plus I pointed out that if a transaction is paid it comes of my card inside 3 days it does not take 27 days to come of. All I could then get from him was ring the receiver and ask if they had the money. I informed him that she had not had the money as it was cancelled on the 4th of July. He then went on to say they cannot take what was said 5, 10 or even 20 days ago it had to be in the next 20 minutes for them to open an investigation ticket.
And I had to ring back after speaking to her which I did and I was put through to a very rude operator who would not listen to anything I had to say. I informed who what had been said to the earlier man and that this was apparently their procedure that had to be followed and she said no its not. I said he had admitted problems with their system and she said we don't have problems with our system. So they work for the same company but they don't sing from the same hymn sheet and since this I have not been able to get into my account, which is quite worrying as they could be doing anything to my account to try and cover up their errors. To say the least I'm not very happy with their rudeness and attitude towards their customers and I'm fighting to get my money back that they took from a cancelled transaction. I've used the online service a few times to send my best friend money. The second to last time, I had to jump through hoops to tell them my relationship to the person and why I was sending it. They then asked if I would be sending again in the future. I of course said yes, and they finally let it go through. However, this last time, and it will be the last time, they cancelled the transaction completely. When I called to inquire why, the customer no-service rep said it might be because my friend is in the same city (she's not; she's 45 minutes south of me).
After getting nowhere fast, I asked to speak to his supervisor. "Lisa" came on the line, acting apologetic, but said that MoneyGram was not "comfortable in completing this transfer" and to go to an agent. I asked why an online service was offered if it would just be cancelled. She gave me the response that I could use it in the future. I asked if I could use it in the future to send to this same friend. She said I could. I replied, "so, if I sent a transfer right now, can you guarantee it would go through"? After a pause, she then said no, and to go to an agent. I repeated that she had just said I could send my friend money, but then told I could not. She said I could go to another service provider. I responded, "so, as a customer service representative, you are telling me to go elsewhere"? She said, "yes". I then asked for the officer in charge of consumer relations. She said if I had a complaint that I could go online.
I said, "I'm coming to you, a live person, for the answers. What is the name of the officer in charge of consumer relations"? She refused to give out the name, saying they were not structured that way. I asked, "is this private information"? She said yes. I said, "so, the name of your Officer level managers is not public information"? (BTW, Pamela Patsley is the CEO. Comes right up top on a Google search. Go figure). She said that it was private information.
So I asked a pointed question. "Is MoneyGram a Private Equity firm"? She said "yes". Of course, this is the final lie, I would accept. I told her I would file a complaint not only online, but with the OCC as well. I wonder how the OCC will deal with the falsification of business structure. They don't like that very much. I bet Phyllis **, MoneyGram Chief Compliance Officer, will enjoy that complaint coming across.

Approximately 4:45 pm cst, on Nov. 14, 2013, I attempted to send $200, to my son in California, through Moneygram.com. I chose the faster service which cost $20.00. The advertisement on their website stated, "10 minutes typically". One hour later my son called and stated he had not received the funds. I then called Moneygram.com customer service and spoke with the service representative about the problem. The representative listened as I expressed concern over the length of time it was taking to complete the transaction, especially since I had paid for expedited service. In my own mind I had been very patient. I was told that they were very busy and I would have to wait till the transaction process completed. I then asked to speak to her supervisor to which she responded with, "We have no supervisor".
Undeterred, I pressed on and ask if she was the CEO or owner of the company. She responded with, "no she wasn't the CEO" to which I replied with, "Then you must have a supervisor". She then backpedaled and admitted to having a supervisor but they did not or would not answer the phone. She transferred me to a person she stated could typically help me. This individual stated that I would have to wait another 40 minutes for the transaction process to complete. Nothing could be done. I wished her a nice day and hung up the phone.
It is apparent to me that this company is taking money by offering a service they cannot or will not provide as advertised. It is true they have a small statement on the website that states that the expedited service can typically be done in 10 minutes. If they cannot typically complete the transaction within ten minutes, then they should not imply this on their website. I believe this is misleading and I think the practice should be stopped.
This is the second time this fiasco has happened to me with this company. I shall no longer do business with them and I hope this stands as a warning to those who are thinking about it. Two hours from the start of the process, my son finally received the funds and I am out an extra $15 for their expedited performance.

I've been the victim of a fraud perpetrator. My MoneyGram Transfer, $15000 was received (picked up\stolen) in Israel by someone but not by me, although I've been return my transfer before to my country where I sent it right from the start. In 19 Oct 2013, about two hours later, after sending second transfer, I called to MoneyGram International by number ** and asked operator (Ivan) return my transfers back to my country, Kazakhstan . I did it because I had a suspicion that my translation can steal fraud perpetrator.
Ivan asked my reference numbers of two transfers and said that it’s ok. The transfers weren't touched and weren't received; he said that I did the right thing. Next he said that my transfers were returned right now and dictated the new two reference numbers by which I can get back my transfers. As Ivan returned transaction on Saturday, I could not get a transfer back as our banks do not work on weekends. I waited Monday to get my money and what was my surprise when I found out from a bank employee that the new number of references has been locked and my translations were returned to Israel and received there by someone.
I emphasize - Oct. 19, when the money (transaction) were returned back to Israel and received the money, I was in my country of Kazakhstan. If need be, I will take the appropriate information in the Consulate of Israel or Customs of Kazakhstan that I did not get a visa to this country and did not visit her in the period 18-20 October. I emphasize that I did not tell anyone my reference numbers neither the first nor the second time after returning back to Kazakhstan. I really resent this fact is fraud, and I am even more outraged by the fact that one of MoneyGram's employees made a refund back to Israel without specifying the reference numbers.
And I'm not haunted by one question - why is someone from MoneyGram's staff made a return transfer to Israel knowing and seeing the information that this transfer has already been returned to me back in Kazakhstan. Why none of MoneyGram’s staff did not try to contact me by phone and ask if everything is OK? I'm going to hire a lawyer and initiate an investigation as well as write an application to the financial police and Interpol to suspicious activities of one of MoneyGram's staff who made my return transfer back to Israel because I believe that MoneyGram's employee did this either by mistake or on purpose of fraud. I very hope that MoneyGram will greatly support in the investigation and return the money MoneyGram lost me back.

The woman at Walmart informed me my license had just expired. I happened to have my social security card, birth certificate, medical insurance card, credit card all in my purse but they refused to take these. The woman told me the sender would have to add a security question for me to be able to pick it up. I called the sender and had them call MoneyGram who informed him if he wanted to add a security question, he needed to bring his license and drive to a Walmart MoneyGram. Like I said, he is disabled and lives out in the country, nowhere near a Walmart. After about 30 mins, on the phone and him answering a ton of questions, they finally agreed to change the name of the receiver. Now how can they change the receiver but can't add a security question over the phone, that makes no sense. They ended up putting it in my husband's name and he was finally able to receive the money. Only took half a day!

I'm so upset and livid right now because of the deceiving going on in MoneyGram. I have used their services for years to send money to my parents and I decided to check on my rewards points and try to redeem them. When I tried to log into my MoneyGram account online, the system would not allow me despite using the correct username and password I've always used. I called customer service and the guy I talked to sounded like he could careless if I was able to log in... After asking for several of my personal information, he told me he could not log-in to my account and needed my SSN# to be able to do that and reset my password!! I told him that I wasn't comfortable giving my SSN# just to have my password reset. He got an attitude and told me they'd send me forms via email and I would get a response in a day or two from them after I filled out the forms in order for them to reset my password!
At this point, I was feeling like screaming.... He had already put me on hold like three times through all this. Then I told him that I just needed to know my total rewards points accumulated over the last two years so that I can use them before they expire since they have decided to discontinue the rewards program as of this month October 2013. There is absolutely NO incentive for using their services so don't waste your time and money using this bogus company!! He put me on hold for another five minutes came back and told me he could not help me with that and because his system all of a sudden stopped working when I told him I wanted to use my rewards before they were deemed useless. He had the nerve after being on the phone with me for 25 minutes to tell me to call back and someone would help me since his computer was slow!
At that point, I told him exactly what I felt and let him know that would not hesitate letting the world know about this sham and scam and how disappointed and disgusted I was by the whole ordeal. I'm done with using their services ever again. I will warn anyone against using them and I'd rather pay a higher fee somewhere else and get quality service and care. This is my hard earned money we're talking about and they just don't seem to care. DO NOT USE MONEYGRAM EVER! I truly wish I had not ever used their services.

I recently was reminded of a past MoneyGram that I had purchased earlier this year. I actually had returned it to MoneyGram for a refund. I was staying at a hotel in Louisville, Kentucky for work with my company and the inevitable happened. I had to leave before I received a check back! I did, however, leave a forwarding address to receive my mail. I called the hotel to check on the status of any incoming mail for 2 weeks and eventually forgot as well as gave up. I just recently, because of boredom and unemployment, remembered the refund and called to inquire about a refund and was told without the MoneyGram number that I would not be able to receive a refund! I have my Walmart Money card that I purchased it with and all of the info that is on the MoneyGram except for the actual number because of reasons beyond my control.
I went through the whole process on the phone automated line for, "if you don't have your Walmart MoneyGram money order number", and finally got through to a customer service rep and they told me "Tough **, guess you should have kept a reference number!" I'm not going to hold on to a little slip of paper that proved to be ineffective to begin with! I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told that I was actually speaking to one! It costs $40 bucks for that whole process by the way and they do nothing for you, AT ALL! I curse the day that I got that stupid MoneyGram!

I requested a copy of a MoneyGram check that was payable to an insurance company but they said they never got it. I paid $14.00 plus an additional $22.00 for the copy of the MoneyGram to be overnighted in the mail because I was sure the check had been posted to the wrong account. When I received the copy from MoneyGram it was clear that the check had been altered and cashed by someone other than the intended party. Unfortunately the copy they sent did not include where the check was cashed (the bank endorsement on the back was missing).
I called to request that they give me the information because I just paid them the $36.00 for a worthless copy without the endorsement. They proceeded to let me know that I now have to wait for them to send me a SOR form and to complete it and mail back. And then I have to wait 10 to 40 days after that to get an answer! What did I pay the $36.00 for? For an international company they are pretty incompetent. Really, what good does a canceled check do without the endorsement on the back?! I could not get them to understand that. Will never purchase a check again from them.

MoneyGram... I wasted more time trying to get money with MoneyGram that it was worth it today, and I didn't succeed in pulling a minimal amount of $195, plus $4.95 because of a bunch of bureaucracy. Do NOT use this service unless you like to be tortured. At ATM machine in 7-Eleven trying to get the money I sent from my PayPal account. Have to call a number, which was busy while waiting at the ATM machine. I received an email stating money was ready for pickup. There was no reference number and the MoneyGram attendant was worthless. Went back home, and noticed another email with a reference number. Went back to 7-Eleven and waited to use the ATM machine. Called the number again.
This time they needed a phone number. I gave them mine, the one linked to my PayPal account. The phone number wasn't the one they had, even though I've had this cell phone for over 5 years with this number, the only phone I have. They couldn't do anything, and stated that I put the phone number in when I sent the money. BS. Called PayPal. Found out when I setup the account, 13 years ago, they still had that number even though it does not show on my profile, only my current number shows. Went back to 7-Eleven. Tried the call and the ATM machine again and this time the guy on the phone said, "You can't make this transaction at an unmanned machine."
I was told I have to go to Walmart, stand in line at Customer Service and hope everything works out, but it was past 9 pm, so no luck today after all that and I even told the manager that I wanted to use their service, but they needed to update my phone number, and they wouldn't do it. If it's at all possible, do not use MoneyGram. Try Western Union. A family member that lives far away sent me a MoneyGram money order that they purchased from Walmart. I went to my local Walmart to cash it in, and they were unable to do so, telling me it wasn't verifying or validating. The woman that worked at Walmart called MoneyGram and told them my situation. The woman on the other line told her there was nothing she could do. I later called MoneyGram and was told to use some other service and to get it cashed at a "non MoneyGram check cashing service. " I went to a local check cashing service, and they couldn't cash it because when they called the number on the side of the MoneyGram and entered the Order Number, it wouldn't validate. Every time I check the status of it with the automated service, it says my order is perfectly fine and ready to be redeemed.
I just got off the phone with them and was put on hold. After literally 20 minutes, an automated message said MoneyGram services had closed 45 minutes ago. If you wish to get a refund, you have to mail in your money order and receipt ALONG with a $15 nonrefundable service fee. Really professional service.

Then I asking myself: where is the fast service? On their page Moneygram advertise - quote - "You can send and receive money in Canada via our cash to cash service by using any of our local agents around the world." My boyfriend and I just moved into our first apartment (yay!). We needed to pay for our first month's rent. We went to the Circle K in our town and bought two money orders, because there is a $500 cap on each money order. We brought them home, and our new puppy (to go along with our new home) got a hold of them. We went right down, with the shreds, to Circle K to get them to void and print us new money orders. They can't do that because they don't even cash the money orders. We then went to Walmart to see if they could do anything about it, and they said that because the money orders weren't bought at Walmart they couldn't help us.
The next day I had to fill out the request refund form. We sent out both forms (for two money orders) along with two checks for the refund forms (which is ABSOLUTELY RIDICULOUS that you have to pay to get your money back!). Two weeks later, I got paid for my job, went to my bank and my checks that I sent to MoneyGram went through TWICE! Debit, then credit!!!!!! One of my residents had two money orders totaling $1,464.79 taken. We immediately knew the status because a resident called to make sure we had hers and we had no checks or MO. We called all residents who were delinquent. This resident contacted MoneyGram, completed the forms, paid $15.00 per money order and was told they were presented. Knowing they were stolen, they allowed them to be cleared. When they call the number, it states they will not stop payment! On the form you complete, it states they will not be refunded once cashed.
It takes 60-90 days to get copies of the front and back of money orders showing where they were cashed! If they send an additional $24.00 per money order, they can get a poor quality fax that may not be useable within 24 hours. NEVER PURCHASE A MONEYGRAM and shame on you for victimizing someone who has already been victimized!!

So I called customer service and even though she was sitting right beside me and even though she tried to talk to them and she authorized me to handle the transaction, they still would not process it. In the first call, I was told that it actually would take up to 50 minutes even though it says 10 minutes. You see, in the fine print it says up to 50 minutes. My second call was received by a woman that was very hard to understand; she did not speak great English. I asked finally, that she spell it and her response was letters that did not spell a word. I hung up and called back again.

I went through all the steps in doing so and used an email address of mine, which I do have a MoneyGram account, but the email I used is in no way tied to that account. So after going through the numerous web page crashes and filling the info in about 10 times, it comes to a point that says you have to call. Okay, so my wife called and first she was on hold for 20 minutes. Then the person on the line came on and verified all her info. She said, "Well because your email address is not the same as your name, they cancelled the account." Okay, my question for them was what difference it made what the email address was if she already verified her identity. Not all of my emails have my name in them. So my wife got upset and hung up.
She then called back as I was at work, then called me to three way us in to see what the problem is. Again, 20 minutes hold time and they said the same thing. I asked what kind of nonsense this was. The person quickly said she is hanging up the line because two other parties, myself and my wife, were on the line. She said the policy allows her to hang up. Plain crazy. I'll tell you I did ask, using a curse word, what kind of mess that was. Mind you, I am at work still and I work for the federal government. But I was so angry I didn't care, so we went to Western Union to complete the transaction and it went through wonderfully. No issues whatsoever.
I then sent MoneyGram an email letting them know how I felt about all this and that I have used their service a lot in the past, but never again will I use them and everyone I come in contact with will hear about this experience. Noways, it's very annoying. Give me any reason why I should stick to your service and not to my bank international transfer. Instead of solving it ASAP, they keep sending me auto response emails. They must have more robust web service, CS, and quality testing department. Terrible company and I hope they are sued permanently and will go out of business soon.

I've used MG service for a couple of years now. No problems until last night with my last transfer attempt. It was reversed. When I contacted customer support, I was told: “We are no longer comfortable with you sending money to this person.” I made 6 subsequent calls and got the same response from every agent, including two from the 'fraud' department. The first time, they apologized and reversed the decision and told me to go ahead and send another transfer which I did.
After I returned home approximately half hour later I received a phone call by a man identifying himself as an MG/ rep and he abruptly told me, “We cancelled your transfer (the new one after I was told everything was fine) because we do not feel comfortable allowing you to send money to this person.” It was the same person I have been sending money to for the 2-3 years I was using the service.
I believe they made this bonehead decision based on stereotypical suspicions and certainly not based on any factual information since there isn't any! I don't understand how this type of policy and the inconsistency of their reversal of decision (this happened 3 times) could allow a company to survive. Perhaps it will eventually (the sooner, the better) go the way of Blockbuster, K-mart, et. al. Western Union has never given me a problem, and I'm happy to be back with them (they're also cheaper to use! ) Bye, bye, “MonkeyGram.”

I purchased a money order for $786.00 at Wal-Mart on Dixie Hwy., Louisville, KY on 11/16/2011. The person it was made out to tried to cash it on 11/17/2011 at a Wal-Mart on outer loop. They were told it was declined. I called customer service and asked why. They said that because it was purchased at Wal-Mart, it could not be cashed at Wal-Mart. So, they had to take it to a check cashing place to cash, which cost $40.00 versus the $3.00 Wal-Mart would have charged. I think this is a rip off. There were three other people who had the same problem while he was there.

I deposited money at Walmart using Moneygram for a prepaid debit card. This time the money was not posted to my account until about 5pm that day! It usually only takes minutes to do this. So after being on the phone for hours, they finally said that their servers were down and were trying to push the transactions through. If i had known that was going to happen, I would have kept my cash instead. Moneygram **.

I purchased a MoneyGram money order for $900 from Walmart but the amount was in error so I returned it to Walmart with the receipt stub and the store purchase receipt to redeem the money order and get the correct amount. The clerk asked for my Social Security number and my drivers license, which was unnerving but understandable to prevent fraud. I obliged the requests, and still, they denied giving me my own money. The clerk gave me a printed tape with the MoneyGram 800 number to call and get the reason for denial.
When I finally got through to a live person, they asked for the same information again. He then told me that because of the amount, they could not cash the MoneyGram money order and that I should take it to my bank or a check cashing outlet (where you would pay a substantial fee!). Additionally, in the 25 or 30 minutes that I spent attempting to get this matter resolved, there were at least three others who attempted to cash a MoneyGram money who were denied.
One was from an out of state student from nearby Georgia Tech University who received a money order for school from his Mom and was not able to cash it. This borders on blatant fraud and an unabashed fleecing of American citizens who trust Walmart and MoneyGram to transact with us in the same fair and equitable way that we transact with them when we initially purchased their instruments.
I should not be denied redeeming or cashing this money order for any legitimate reason. There should be clearly posted signs warning patrons that you may be able to purchase a MoneyGram money order at Walmart, but don't attempt to redeem or cash it here.

I purchased three money orders at Walmart on July 30, 2011. I sent them to my son the next day.
His package arrived three days later without the money orders inside. I went to Walmart to inquire what to do to replace them. I was given a form to fill out for each money order and was told I would need to send 15 with each form to cancel the lost money orders, at a total cost of 45, which is close to 30 percent of their value.
Why can I not just get a new money order for the lost ones with the full amount? This is highway robbery.

I purchased a MoneyGram money order on 07/02/10 at the local Wal-Mart (Hinsdale, NH) and sent it to my son in Iowa, who took it to his local Wal-Mart (Anamosa) where he was told that they couldn't cash it, no reason given.
So I called the their phone # and was told the following: "You cannot buy a MoneyGram money order at one Wal-Mart and cash it at another Wal-Mart. You cannot cash it at any Wal-Mart. The only way you can cash a MoneyGram money order is you buy at a Wal-Mart is to make it out to yourself, take it back to the same Wal-Mart it was purchased at and cash it. Otherwise, it needs to be cashed at a bank or a check cashing facility, where they'll charge 15 - 20%."
I realize how ridiculous this sounds and I asked the man I was speaking with if it didn't seem a little silly to him. Why would I want to buy a money order, put my name on it and go back to the same Wal-Mart to cash it? This makes no sense. When I asked him, he just repeated what he said before. Also, it is not true as my son has cashed MoneyGram money orders at one Wal-Mart that were bought at another Wal-Mart .
First, I paid $30.80 to send it via priority mail so they would receive it today as he and his family need the money. Now they have to wait until tomorrow to try again and they are stranded about 40 miles from their home because they have no gas and no money.

Moneygram will not release information I need in order to find a certain person. My 17 year old son bought a car on Craigslist for $3000 from an individual who had moved to England but the car was supposed to be in Houston, TX. The money was sent through Moneygram office at Walmart. Moneygram will not tell me who (as I'm sure an alias was used) picked up the money in England.(They didn't even ask which city it was going to). Moneygram is saying a subpoena has to be presented before they can release any information on this individual.
It's been since Dec.16, 2009 when this took place. This individual posed as an eBay representative in order to pick up the money. He had a fake eBay page created that was very realistic in order for us to pay as if it was a buy it now listing. Although I have an attorney, by the time this takes place, this individual will probably be long gone and possibly scamming someone else by now. The listing was still up on Craigslist as of a few days ago. Please help. Thanks. My son borrowed most of the money from his grandparents to pay for this car. The rest was from working after school. This was very discouraging for him as he will be starting college in the fall and was saving money for a better car.

We purchased a money order in 4/4/2004 for $680 which we lost due to moving/storage, found it in11/2009. We tried to get refund, for which we had the original money order with stub attached. We were told by Angela to send the original money order with a copy of stub in with a claim form, for which we did. To date, we have been given bogus check, stating we cashed it in May 2004. Jennifer ** has now come with a claim from 2004. My question is, why do we still have the original money order for which they refuse to return, but I have a copy. Is this the way a business of reputable standing is supposed to be? We never were paid and any paperwork is bogus. It's funny how Ms. ** claim that the original money order sent a month ago was destroyed, but a paper from 2004 was not. Someone is not telling the truth, and thought that this was free unclaimed money. It is not fair. Please respond.

I received 3 moneygram money orders (Walmart) today for $750.00 each. I am supposed to cash and take 10% for me and send the rest to? I just notified them that I cashed them but need an address to send payment to. I really have not because I called the number for the Walmart money grams and they said that they are no good.
When I called Moneygram they didn't seem concerned. I really think that they shoud be. Who do I call that will be concerned?

On Jan. 13, 2007 I checked the balance of my bank account online, and found it to be $132.87 overdrawn. I looked at the itemization on the account, and found two charges for $214.00 each pending for MoneyGram. I called MoneyGram to complain. While on the phone with the representative, he told me a Fraud Specialist would call me sometime between Jan 14, 2007 and Tuesday, Jan 16, 2007.
I decided to check another account I have in order to make certain I had money available to purchase the things I needed, I was $892.03 overdrawn in that account. This account had two pending charges of $481.00 each. Since I had one more checking account, I decided to check the balance in it, and it was $516.47 overdrawn, due to a $481.00 charge, a $114.00 charge, and a $214.00 charge. What seemed odd to me was that MoneyGram didn't find it odd for me to send the same person in a foreign country $2,050.00 in 7 transactions during the course of an hour.
When I arrived at work today, I started investigating online, and according to the LA Times Online, MoneyGram knew a month ago, personal information was compromised on a service for 79,000 of their customers. Rather than warn their customers, they kept quite until Friday, January 12, 2007, when they issued a press release. They also reported only bill pay customers with a single biller were affected. I never used bill pay through MoneyGram!
