Stay away from KeyBank! I opened a KeyBank account over a month ago, due to a good promo that they were running. Out of nowhere, my debit card wasn't working, so I decided to give them a call. They told me that my and my wife's account is being closed. After a few days of trying to get through to the fraud department, I spoke to the woman who actually closed my account her name was "Sara". She said ,"KeyBank has a right to close my account without providing any reason or notice." She was extremely rude and didn't want to give me any information. When I called again, she said she doesn't feel conformable talking to me as I sound like a different person.

Additionally, they can't send me a check for my account balance, and that I have to go down to the nearest KeyBank branch which is 3 and a half hours away from me. I opened this account online since there was no branch near me. I find this absolutely ridicules, all I did was open an account and I deposited my money in there -- no fraud whatsoever as I have never done anything like that. I used so many banks and no one has ever done this to me. I can't even check my account balance online as they cancelled it without notice. I've never experienced dealing with someone this ruthless. I don't plan on dealing with KeyBank again. But now I basically don't know what to do as I can't travel 3 to 4 hours to the bank.

A 19 cent overdraft is currently costing me $349.00 in late fees and overdraft fees. All because key bank posts debits before credits. I deposited my paycheck and then withdrew the majority of the funds I deposited. Unknown by me, I had been hit with a overdraft fee of 37 dollars, which meant that when I withdrew an amount that I thought would leave me with plenty in the account, actually exceeded my available balance. Thus incurring another overdraft fee. Confident I had a few dollars in the bank, I continued to use my debit card 3 times at Redbox for 1$, 3$. and 1$. Also, I used it at maverick for a 6$ pack of smokes and for a pastry and soft drink.

Two weeks later, I went in to cash my paycheck and was informed my account was in the negative over $200. They couldn't do anything about it until the account was in the black again. l had receipts showing that the original 19 cent overdraft was done after a credit was made to the account. I don't got those anymore, I got a collections notice for $349.00. I got screwed I guess. Also my friend whom I referred (never got promised bonus), just uses his account to cash his paychecks. Keeps getting failure to notify them of address change charges of 10 dollars when the post office returns his monthly statement.

I opened my account with Key Bank at University Village Branch in Seattle, Washington. The bank was running a promotion of iPod-touch reward for opening a new account. I satisfied all of the requirements to receive my iPod. It is written on the bank reward that the customer will receive the iPod-touch within 90 days of satisfying the reward requirement. It has been 120 days and I received no reward or no word from the bank. I inquired with the bank branch manager, Usha, a few times regarding this. The branch manager I spoke to told me that I did satisfy the reward requirement. She said that she would be looking into it, but she no longer responded. I know this problem did not apply to all their customers. I just believe that the bank is so bad and so wrong by not sticking with their offers and playing this reward hoax to some of their customers.

Key Bank needs to be taken to court! I deposited cash in the amount of $550.00 on Monday morning. I then went and charged 3 items during that day. I knew I had enough money in there because I checked my balance. They charged me three NSF fees because they put through my debits before my deposit from Saturday. All transactions on the weekend should be posted on Monday, however most banks put through your credits first but this bank does not. Even if this all occurred on same day, it doesn't matter. They are thieves and need to be stopped!

You know there are some very serious federal crimes being committed within banks against the consumer concerning foreclosures. These are crimes that no one is talking about. I know because I've lived it and hear what the news is reporting today and they never mention what has occurred to me. I have the documents to prove most of these federal crimes; all but the proof that there has been collusion, however I do have the road directing me to this collusion. I believe my situation to0 be RICO.

The authorities, such as the US Attorney General, Attorney Generals in three states that I know of and the FBI won't do a thing about this. I'm told they don't have the resources and this isn't important enough to investigate.

Sure you can read about how these authorities are, cracking down on banks and mortgage companies but interestingly they aren't telling the American public the whole truth about the federal crimes these banks are committing in order to foreclose. And, these banks aren't just attacking the low income and middle class.

Here's the truth as it occurred to me. This is what I know about KeyBank for which I have written proof.

    1) If you have a loan with them, they interfere with the closing of escrow on your home when you sell it in other words they purposely destroy your sale so they can renew your loan, adding more interest with the renewal. They did this to me three times.

    2) They forge your signature and take funds out of your account. In my case they removed hundreds of thousands of dollars and arrogantly laughed at me as they did it.

    3) They misappropriate your monthly payments made on your loan to a phantom account, stop sending you your account statements and then call you in default when you're not. (It will take you six years or more in the legal system just to retain your account statements proving you made your payments.) By this time you've lost your home to KeyBank. My property was worth three million dollars and had one and a half million dollars of equity in it. And, it sold three times for well over two million dollars, (before the property appreciated to three million dollars) while the bank refused to allow me to take these offers.

    4) If your home is owned by a trust, which mine was, KeyBank will hire an outside law firm to find a way to foreclose on your property fast. It takes three years to foreclose if your property is owned by a trust, ( Judicial Foreclosure) so they take it out of the trust, (on paper only) and foreclose in a matter of months, (Non-judicial Foreclosure). Why? Because they don't want a Judge to see what they're doing. 5) I was actually paid up on my loan a year in advance but because of KeyBanks federal crimes, I lost my home anyway. I fought them for eight years.

    6) And, when you first see these problems occurring you can write all thirty-seven KeyBank board of directors asking them to do something. They'll ignore you. I still don't have any of my account statements other than the page proving KeyBank misappropriated my monthly payments for a year.

    7) The loan KeyBank used to foreclose on me had been given to me personally during my divorce because my assets were frozen. They actually used this loan to foreclose on my home, which was owned by my trust.

All tolled through this. I lost close to ten million dollars; my business; my credit is destroyed unlawfully. Because of my outrageously destroyed credit, I can't get employment. I'm literally dying in the streets of Southern California today, homeless and penniless. I believe I can prove that this was done on purpose to me because the foundation to this federal crime was the embezzlement of eighty million dollars out of my named trust by Paine **, the National Bank of Detroit; my trustees and money manager. When I figured out that this had occurred in September 2004, all the rest of the federal crime started to happen, while I was able to connect the people involved.

I have found the trail pointing out that the California attorney whom I hired to represent me against KeyBank was most probably in bed with KeyBank and possibly many other entities. You cannot convince me that this was an isolated case when KeyBank had six hundred lawsuits filed against them in Idaho alone in the early 2000s. But this is hidden from the public. In fact through my research I've found KeyBank to be the most insidious banks in business today. They hide everything including the fact that they are present in every state in this country. Where there isn't one of their banks, they're present as a real estate company. Gee, I wonder why? You should also know that KeyBank has hired almost every strong law firm in Idaho whereby when the consumer tries to get legal help they find instead conflicts.

I am 18 years old. I opened my first checking account with Key Bank in July of 2010. It is October, so it has been 3 months. In these 3 months, I have never been so ****. They charge me with overdraft fees every chance they get and hold my checks as if it is theirs. When I withdraw money from my account, it seems every time my check is on hold and they charge me with more over draft fees.

I called customer service and explain to them multiple problems I have been having and he said he would call me back to take a hold of one of my recent checks. He called me back at work saying that I would be able to access my funds that day. I withdraw $300 and use my debit card at Walgreens. They still charged me $116 in over draft fees even when a rep from Key Bank told me it was alright to access my funds.

I'm paying my fees tomorrow and I am canceling my debit card. I am never putting my money anywhere near Key Bank again. I am going back to my credit union, where I never had any problems. But I am not whatsoever done with fighting Key Bank. I know other banks are doing it too. Please join my facebook page "Throw away the key" to make notice of these unfair actions banks are doing to Americans everyday.

My wife and I have had several CDs at Key Bank during the past 4-5 years. We received a notice that one of the CDs was maturing. My wife went in to close the CD on the maturity date as we wanted to invest the funds in an Ohio Bank that paid better interest. When we got our receipt for the transaction, we were charged a fee for a "Official bank check". She did not ask for an "Official Bank Check." She was not informed that there would be a charge to get our money. This is only one of a number of poor customer relations we have experienced with this bank. I recommend people look elsewhere to take their business. Loss of funds, not a major amount, but when taxpayers paid to bail out banks such as this one, why should they have to rip us off again when we withdraw our funds? Enough!

Key Bank representative called me and asked if I wanted to join the rewards program using my debit card. I was told the first year was free. I would have to cancel by 8/25/10 to avoid the $20 annual fee. I called Key Bank on 8/25/10 to cancel. They said it would cost me $5 to cancel as they would need to issue me a new debit card. I was not told there would be a fee to cancel. Key Bank said I could cancel the checking account - which I did.

The OD fees are ridiculous and the polices in regards to deposits and transactions is horrible. I checked my balance everyday and it never actually matches what is in there. I got hit with over $800. 00 in OD charges because of the fact that a check I deposited was held for 2 days and the pending transactions were posted even though they did not really clear until the next day. Even with the OD charges my account balance still showed a positive balance.

I called the 1 800 key 2 you # to get my balance not knowing that the OD fees. I was told the account was positive, so I used what I thought was the balance in the account, only to get hit by insane amounts of charges. I complained and no one cares nor will they listen. I have been a key bank customer for over 20 years. The government really needs to investigate their practices.

Key Bank has been charging me excessive overdraft fees. I check my account on a daily basis online. There are many times a purchase or automatic deduction does not show up until a few days later. This later on can result in an overdraft fee of $39 for each item. Example on a recent incident: I used my debit card for a $1 movie RedBox rental, a $5 at McDonald's, a $7 grocery purchase. I knew my account had about $20 remaining balance with a direct deposit scheduled in about two days. The next day, I checked my account. They have charged me an accumulated $20 regional ATM fee, which is when I don't use one of their ATMs in that month.

The regional ATM fee usually shows up at the end of the month but there's no specific date. As a result of their $20 regional ATM fee, this made all of my previous purchases overdrawn. So I was charged an extra $39, $39 and $39 for the $1 movie RedBox rental, $5 McDonald's and the $7 grocery purchase. I feel that Key Bank does this injustice to consumers who are college students or those that are trying to meet ends meet. With the excessive overdraft fees, it causes my bills to fall behind and no groceries.

I was hospitalized in February 2010 with first a kidney stone blockage, followed by surgery, and complications which resulted in blood clots in my legs. My husband's overtime was eliminated around the same time, and a layoff was being mentioned. Knowing that we would hardly be able to pay the RV payment (our primary residence) in the following months, I immediately called Key Bank and explained my recent situation, requesting help before we became delinquent in payments (Feb 24). I was told that I would have to send in data to see about qualifying for a reduction or modification.

Each time I called to check on the progress of the application, I was told that something new or different was needed, updated, better explained, or simply not received on their side, and I would need to resend it in. Finally, today (April 20), I was able to get in touch with someone on the "workout team" after almost 40 minutes of rude behavior on the intake team and being told that they had received nothing except the last 3 pages that had been faxed on 4-13-10. The member of the workout team was miraculously able to locate all paperwork I insisted they had in their possession. The call took an hour to complete.

Within 15 minutes after hang up I received a call back telling me that I qualified for absolutely nothing because my credit was pulled and was bad and I hadn't filed bankruptcy yet. They were made aware of my perilous situation from the start. At no time was it explained as a prerequisite that I had to have stellar credit to get assistance in a unforeseen circumstance.

This is 2 solid months of calling, faxing (at $2.00 a page) in Fargo (75 miles away) to get them the paperwork they required, or mailing copies of what they insisted they needed to be able to look at the case. It's been a waste of time, money and emotional roller coaster trying to save my house. They should have been more forthcoming with their qualification procedures before wasting my time, effort and emotional well being. They claim that the banks are here to help in a time of need, but all they did was upset the family and now we are facing having our RV repossessed because they will not do a single thing to help us to keep it.

I am complaining two incidents that happened when BofA sold our loan to Key Bank. First of all, we were not notified that the loan was sold. Our September loan payment to BofA was paid just the same through our electronic banking. So when October's payment didn't come out as usual, I called to find out why. I was then told our loan was sold to Key Bank, and shortly after that, we received a late payment notice from Key Bank stating we never made the September or October's payment. We quickly overnighted the October's payment and provided proof that the September payment was taken by BofA. Key Bank charged us over a $200 late fee and told us that it stands regardless of what occurred. Also, on our end, it appears that the September payment that BofA took was never applied to our loan, tax or impound accounts. I have asked for statements and they have not sent any, or even a 1099.

The other huge complaint I have regarding this loan is when we purchased the property, it is two parcels and one was done with a lot split. Well, we just found out that since the inception of this loan, 12/2007, the mortgage company (1st being LaSalle, then BofA, now Key Bank) has been making our tax payment to the wrong parcel number. This was always an impound account. Now, no one will take responsibility or help us. It's like this money which is like $7000 - $8000 a year is just gone and we will have to fight for it. We pay our impound account every month. They should be taking responsibility for the tax payment. Please advise us.

The consequence is first complaint, the loss of a whole month's payment and a late fee. Second, approximately $15,000 - $20,000 of misapplied tax payments and tax delinquent fees on the parcel that never had any tax payments made to it.

My account balance was $1233 from which my mortgage in the amount of $1114 was deducted followed by a restaurant charge in the amount of $87. This left my account with $32 from which I had a pending debit in the amount of $40 for automatic prescription renewal (yes, my fault for not remebering this). I went into the bank to deposit $200 and asked for my available balance after paying the overdraft fee of $38.50 in addition to rectifying the $7-$8 is was missing to clear the $40 charge. My account balance printed showing about $160 available balance. I logged into my account after the weekend to see that I was charged another $38.50 overdraft fee. After speaking with the bank manager and a customer service rep, they informed me that the pending debit of $40 made my account negative so that the restaurant charge did not clear. This does not make any sense ast the restaurant visit occurred over a week ago. How does it appear to have cleared 7 days later and 2 days before the $40 debit? I feel like they are just trying to get more money out of me. I have been denied overdraft protection too so don't reallly have a way to prevent this other than to be psychic.

When I emailed them they said that they have a policy of holding checks and only releasing $100, and that they would be assessing another $37 fee for the next day. I contacted KeyBank as soon as I saw these loans on all three of my credit reports in late August and at this time I was not aware my daughter had signed my name as co-signer but I complied with all they had requested, notorized there investigation form and returned to them. I was speaking to Pat Fugate at this time on the phone on several occasions. She had assured me they would remove these loans off my credit reports a.s.a.p. Then I received a letter in the mail from her stating they were not and felt they were my loans. After this I've tried to contact her but could not because she's well aware these are not my loans but does not want to remove them because as she states the bank is not going to lose this money. I was reading your article on the sham called bank overdraft fees on ATM cards, when I thought I'd add to the discussion. My son made the mistake of transferring money from his checking account to his savings account on his bank's website--when he had meant to do the reverse. Meaning that he had insufficient funds in his checking account, and now he had less. The bank allowed the transfer and charged him an overdraft fee of $35. He then went out and used his debit card to spend what he thought he had deposited in his checking; and it cost him 3 more bank fees. You would think that the bank's website would not have allowed him to transfer funds he did not have, but it did. Terrible website!

Cost him $140, but I complained and threatened to close my accounts; so they reversed 3 of the charges and only charged him $35 for the first event, which was due to their defective website.

Initially the questions were benign, relating to our citizen status and other public matters. They she asked this question, "Do you perform any foreign political functions?" (This is verbatim) I was so alarmed by the nature of the question and its Macarthiesque nature I stopped the process of setting up the account and my wife and I left the bank. I have called the offices of Congressman Tim Ryan and Senator Jerrod Brown and no on at those offices were aware of such a question and after extensive internet search I find NO mention of such a question. I was told that if I answer yes to the question I would be quizzed as to the nature of that "foreign political fuction" and that if I refused to answer the question I would not be able to set up the account. I was even refuse a copy of the questions. I merely was to ascertain whether the patriot act does indeed authorize those questions for EVERY individual who seeks to open up a personal banking account.

Key Bank is now returning items on checking accounts based on "pending" debit transacations, but not taking into account "pending" credit transactions. Our first instance of this occurred in December where there were several pending debit transactions, but there was also a pending credit transaction from a retailer. Several of our items were returned and we were charged overdraft fees of $37.50 per item, even though the pending debit transactions did not actually clear the account until days later, after the pending credit transactions cleared. At no time online did our balance show that we were in danger of having items returned. The balances for each day showed positive and the available balance showed more than enough to cover the debit transactions.

When we questioned the bank, they said that they could show us the exact time that the transactions were initiated, and that if the debited transactions were initiated before the credit ones, even if on the same day, it would cause items to be returned. This is horrifying! How in the world would a consumer be able to know the exact time that a transaction would credit or debit an account. Most consumers work off of totals, knowing that a certain amount will be debited or credited on a certain day, but not at a certain time. Recently, it happened again. Several pending items were shown for a date on which a direct deposit was to be credited. The pending draft items were used against the account and several items were charged $37.50 each due to "insufficient funds" although the pending direct deposit was not considered. Subsequently, those pending items did not actually clear the bank until several days later, and the credited deposit actually shows up on a date prior to the actual clear date of the draft transactions.

It is March 2003 and my credit still shows the same balance being owed and a bad score on my credit bureau. I have contacted them many times. The last time (3-12-03) I talked to the same man who I worked with in June of 2002. He told me that he remembered me well and that he would take care of everything on 3-13-03. On 3-13-03, I called hiim back to make sure that everything was taken care of, and a lady answered - stated that 3-12-03 was his last day of employment with their company. The name of the company is Tabula Rasa Inc at 888-868-9846 and they were handling the account. The truck was returned voluntarily (which is also not noted on my cbr) due to family situations beyond our control.

In February 2002, I mailed a deposit to my bank(keybank), I am an hour away- so it's easier to mail them. Assuming my deposit made it there, I went to the store and got groceries. Come to find out- it never made it, along with an additional deposit. Well- needless to say, I was charged an NSF fee for a check that was short $7.00. No problem. BUT- my account was totally wiped out- and being laid off, the deposits I mailed were IT for my money. Following this, they charged me a reoccuring NSF overdraft fee of $25.00..and they KEPT charging these fees back and fourth until my account was showing a negative $272.00!!! I mailed a $30- money order which covered the origional bounced check- along with another $40-(that NEVER showed up) and another $100-money order (that never showed up). I have accumilated $154.00 in BOGUS fees. I have called a dozen times, driven an HOUR to the nearest branch- showed stubbs from the money orders, and they STILL refuse to credit ANY fees.

I had a automobile loan with key bank. They received my payment for the balance owing on 1/9/02. It was a MasterCard payment - through a balance transfer program with Citicard. I started calling on approximately 1/23/02, bebause I had not received the title and the person I sold the car to was calling me everynight. I was told they had to wait 10 working days to make sure the payment cleared. This didn't sound right to me, since the transaction was on my credit card and sent directly from the credit card company, but I relayed the information to the buyer of the car. We waited, and then I called again on about the 27th because I was getting worried and harrased by the buyer too. They told me the title was sent on the 24th from Boise, Idaho. That is only a few hundred miles.

They said there was nothing more they could do. I continued being harrased by the buyer of the car, including him showing up at my home about 7:30 the morning of February 1, 2002, and calling me a liar. There was an agruement and I was very upset as well as upseting my small grandchildren. I fully understand his frustration, but I do not accept being called a liar. I agreed to take time out of work and meet him and call Key Bank together, to prove I was not lying to him. We did that and got no further help from them. I am again being harrassed by the buyer, because I still have not received the Title. I called Key Bank again today and went through the same thing again. They agreed to start the process to have a new title sent, but no guarantees on how long that will take.

During my first year of college, I open a small Checking Account with Key Bank. After my graduation, I decided to close the account. I closed the account without any problems. About a month later, I started to receive letters stating that my account was over drawn. I quickly called the customer service line for clarification on the matter. I was informed that my account was had not been closed. The person on the telephone assured me that my account would be closed and the over draft taken off the record. A month later I received another letter stating my account was overdrawn and being closed; also that I was being reported to Chexsystems I again called Key Bank. They again informed me that my account had not been closed. I was told to call corporate to sort out the problem. However, corporate told me to call my local banking branch. This when on and on for 2 weeks until I was told that I could receive a letter stating that my account was placed on Chexsystems be mistake but they would not take my name of the system. They stated that it was not possible and not their policy remove names from Chexsystems.
