This was our first time trying this company. Should have turned around and walked out as soon as we walked in!!! The "office" was run down, and frankly, scary! Signs on the front door about all doors to attached apartments being locked. Seemed as though there was an eviction going on. The (one) lady working was really nice, but had no idea that she had an appointment. Didn't ask us any questions when we walked in, we had to start it all off, and finally got to the part that we had an appt. We booked the 1 hour appt and assumed we would leave with our taxes completed. NOPE. She need to hold onto everything and leave it for the next person, after telling us that she had been sitting there alone for 2 days until we came in.
We spoke about the fee, "$149 OR LESS, for all situations, no matter how complex." Not true. She said the State could be 100s of dollars. Reluctantly, we left everything. Got a call next day from someone else telling us that it could be up to $900!! I quoted the ad from the internet and she said that their sign doesn't say that. We went in to collect our paperwork and I showed her the ad online. She had no idea it was there and told me it wasn't true. Hmmmm. We will be going elsewhere and NEVER going back there again!

The fees actually charged for completing my simple W2 was/are ridiculous. I was told from my understanding, that since I was a new customer $100 would be deducted from my initial fee, which would have been $160, which I felt was still too high for a simple tax return. But they ended up charging me a total of over $300, saying that $54 of it was/is charged by my bank for direct deposit. I contacted my bank rep, and she informed me that they have not received any direct deposit fee from JH for depositing my taxes, and I also observed no such transaction fee from my bank account ledger. My bank rep also shared with me that a bank associate just went through the same thing with the same JH service.
When I had asked about such deposit fees with the JH rep I was told to take it up with my bank, which I did and my ban rep said they would never charge me a deposit fee, especially from the IRS and she suggested that I report them to at least the Better Business Bureau, which I have due to the principle of feeling like something is wrong because the math just ain't mathing. I mean, how are they charging me over $300 for a simple tax return? How is it that my bank doesn't know anything about a $54 fee for a direct deposit? If I had known that they were going to charge me over $300 for a simple tax return, I would have gone somewhere else or attempted to do it myself.
I find the JH, where I had my taxes done, located in Walmart, to be suspicious of overcharging for their tax services. And normally, I do an online research review on businesses, but for some reason, I wanted to and did trust this service to not scam me in any way. Well, I've learned to make sure to perform online review research before doing business with any business, period. I also discovered that JH has lawsuits about the same and similar business transactions. Sadly, people are out here doing the most, taking from others in any way they can to line their pockets.

The facility was not clean. Looked like it had not been cleaned or vacuumed for some time. There was no privacy from anyone sitting in the lobby area. It was all open. They could hear everything that was discussed. Talk about HIPPA violation. Afterwards, me & my husband had received a survey from Jackson Hewitt. We responded back to it & told them exactly what we thought. Within a few minutes. We received a phone call from the regional manager, & they wanted to know why we gave them the low marks on the survey.
We told the regional manager just want we thought. My husband stated that is also very unprofessional to have a facility set up like this especially with the privacy that is needed. The regional manager did not like to hear what we had to say. So she stated that they are cancelling our tax filing. We were like.... Really? Your kidding us? The regional manager stated, no I am not. You are cancelled. My husband mentioned to the manager that they send out a survey & want to know our experiences. But when we give it. They don't like it so they cancel you. Something is definitely very wrong with this picture. Not good practices to say the least. Would never suggest anyone to use Jackson Hewitt.

Scheduled 1 1pm appt. Didn’t get seen until 1230 because the 12pm appt didn’t show up until 1250. Showed him all my forms and he told me you don’t need to fill out the local tax form. They send it in case you want to fill it out. Told him I was there to pay him to fill out that form and he refused.

Went in for my taxes and they charged me $750 and I have went there for years and now I'm going to go somewhere else. That price is crazy and way too much for taxes fee and service. I liked them at first but seems that the more you get back the more they want and I'm a single dad that needed that money so I'm not happy there.

My Name is Tony W. I used Jackson Hewitt for the first time this year. Let me tell you it was a mistake. I had 1 W-2 and A 1095. The girl that helped me was just a relay person on her PC to someone else. I was told because this was my first time using JH I would be getting $100.00 off for the tax prep. I was told the prep was going to be $539.00 minus the $100.00. At the time I felt like that was way too much to be charged but I went forward with it. Six weeks later I got my return, not direct deposit like I was told it would be but by a paper check instead but I heard on a Radio ad that they were only charging $149.00 or less for a simple return so I felt like I was overcharged and when I called customer service about it I was told that's too bad and there isn't anything they can do about it so needless to say I will not be using JH ever again and I hope this review will help someone else from making the mistake I did with a less than honest company.

We were supposed to get a little federal back. Not much but anything helps. Ended up getting $0. I feel I was lied to. I will recruit and stand out to protest wherever there's a Jackson Hewitt. I know plenty of stay at home moms who would agree y'all lie and charge entirely to much. I'm having to go to H&R block to have them go over my taxes. I should have just gone there to begin with. Y'all got paid tho that's for sure. Lying crooks is what you should rename yourselves. I will be sure to spread the word that no one should do business with you. I would give a negative 5 star if I could. I have learned from my mistake and will make sure no one else makes the same mistake I did.

I went to Jackson Hewitt two years ago I was charged $800 for all their hidden fees and everything and only got back $100 when I asked the lady about all the fees to explain them to me. She was reluctant to do so I was penalized for not having a bank account when I did have a bank account and worse they disabled me shortly after that and since I don’t work, the family member I live with is allowed to claim me on his taxes-Jackson Hewitt gals keep calling telling me he can’t and that I need to come in and file my taxes with them basically, they’re making threats to me. They call five and six times a day even though I’ve told them I’m on their do not call list and they just get a different office to keep calling me and threatening me. I don’t recommend using them ever they rip people off and they can’t explain why they have to charge $800 to get your taxes filed when that’s ridiculous.
I contacted the IRS personally and was told don’t use them and that they basically ripped me off, and that since I am disabled that I don’t have to file taxes, but that my family member that I live with could claim me, regardless of what Jackson Hewitt said-he filed directly with the IRS and if he has questions, he speaks directly with the IRS not with a bunch of thieves like Jackson Hewitt. I don’t recommend using them unless you wanna get threatened and ripped off.

I'm 68 years old and filed my taxes on January the 21st of this year. This young guy doing the taxes called his supervisor four times during the process of processing my taxes. I was given a fake American Express card Serve card where the guy doing my taxes told me to sign the back of it and gave me a copy of my taxes and said my money would be on there in 2 hours. Continue to go and try to get money off of a fake card. This was a fake card and the guy knew it when he gave it to me. 2 weeks later I got one in the mail. Still no money on my card.
The fact that company would give you a fake American Express Serve card tells me that American Express does not know who they're dealing with. Why would you tell a senior citizen that's blind and that is disabled that they have their money on a fake American Express card. I think fraudulent charges need to be charged to this company. I don't think you need to deal with this company if they're giving out the wrong information. Still waiting on my taxes which I'll probably not see the money. IRS says it's been processed. It should be on the card. No money is on the card.
I have serious concerns about American Express Serve. Why would you do business with the company that gives out your fake cards. I did. I thought that was against the law to give a fake credit card that says American Express Serve on it and tell people that sure American Express card. That's fraudulent and needs to be reported to the better business bureau and you need to be shut down she didn't tax people cards like this that are fake cards. I think that they took advantage of me because I'm disabled, blind and they kept my money.

Went to JH for the first time this past February. Simple, two pensions, SS, no deductions, stocks, none of anything extra! Scheduled appointment ahead - got there, waited maybe 45 min. to an hour, guy shows up late, went in the back room, came out several minutes later, said he would help me, and I sat down - wasn’t very long and he kept having to turn around to ask this female employee questions - she was even disgusted because she was helping clients - would roll her eyes. Guy didn’t speak, except at the end he asked what are you doing the rest of today, and I replied I have to go to have a radiation treatment, I have cancer. He printed papers put them in an envelope and I asked what the cost was. He said I’ve highlighted everything I’ve printed out on the papers in the envelope. Went to my car and saw they charged me $373.00 to do my simple taxes - 2 pensions, social security, nothing else, ie, no deductions, no stocks, no IRA, nothing!
Needless to say, after I posted 1st review JH contacted me via email to tell me to call a number - they were so sorry for my experience. Called number, they switched me to several people, and, in essence, they said the guy is no longer employed with them and I could file with them free next year. I said neither of those things help me - guy was let go - he should have been trained when it’s not crush time for taxes - second - I may not even be here next tax season to file! THIS is how much JACKSON HEWITT cares about us, true Americans!

Had my taxes done this year with Jackson Hewitt in Tacoma Wa. They didn’t put me down for HOH and instead filed me a single with a dependent. Paid $400 to have them do my taxes and I was the one that found the mistake. Called and told them. They said come back and file for the amended return and said it would be free of charge LOL. How about giving me the $400 back since I figured out they did it wrong. Been going there for last 8 years but will not ever go back.

She didn’t send my w2 or my w2g and all this headache cost me 463.95. When I called and tried to get her to correct my email, she said, "Oops, you can correct it next year when we do your taxes." When we got my boyfriend's taxes done, the lady was so busy with other things she got his email wrong, it took forever, 2 and a half hours because she got 4 phone calls and a visitor and their rates are so high. We used H&R Block last year and it's almost 200 dollars cheaper at H&R block so when I got mine done, I went to a different location and use his refer a friend, but because the email was wrong, I couldn't use it and I cannot believe that it cost that much to have your taxes done. Next year I'm doing it myself.

First of all, this company is a scam company. They trick you into doing their cash advance before the tax season is even submitted. Then they do other transactions on your tax returns that you did not authorize. Then they don't notify you when issues apply. So when you receive documents from IRS it's on you. Then they charge you so much money and they do not return calls. They don't handle any of the business when it comes to identifying errors in your claims. It's just a mess and definitely you can't trust the staff. They don't really know what they're doing and it's just poor service.

Jackson Hewitt inside Walmart on Veterans Memorial Parkway, Lafayette, IN. Is the worst place to go to. It took me 3 days to have my simple state return done and I was lied to, they don't file online. I spent nearly 4 hours over three days being told one line after another!!! Had Jackson Hewitt do taxes last year. Lara was the employee who took care of me. She was a delight, very professional. We were done in 20 minutes. Charge was $149. This year Lara was there. There was a newly guy who wasn't thoroughly familiar with job. We spent over an hour fumbling around. THEN I WAS CHARGED $409. REALLY!!. Same tax as last year for $149. I checked HR Block and TurboTax, their prices are in $150 area so I incorrectly figured Jackson Hewitt would be also. My mistake I didn't ask prior. My tax is relative simple. Retired with job retirement income plus social security and a couple of cd's. Not a lot of work there. No way it is worth $409. My advice is you look somewhere else. Next year I certainly will.

I was never given a number for the charge, when the finally told me what I was going to pair it was 635$ -100$ for a transfer discount than when I finally got to see my numbers I saw that the was a additional 55$ added because of the payment coming out of my refund so I paid them 55$ so I could pay them, I don’t get it. When I asked the main office why it was a 589$ charge she told me it was because I filed EIC. I filed just a plain 1040 with earned income credit for my dependents.

H&R Block; is by far, the better choice!! Jackson Hewitt will charge you $800 to file. They will take your State refund to pay back the advance and filing fees. The Serve Card from American Express sucks. H&R Block had the Emerald Card, which can be used just like a regular debit card. The don't take your fees for advances or filing until your Federal arrives. Also, they only charge me around $350 - $400 to file.

The new bank they use for the refund advance is a joke, always got the full advance with no issues, then the prices are way higher than the previous Year. I paid 289$ last year, this year was 569$. I've used Jackson Hewitt for 16 years. But after my charge this year, I will not be coming back. This makes me sad because the lady who does our taxes is awesome. But I'm not paying almost 600$ for a 40 minute appointment to have my taxes done, I'll do them myself.
