My wife and I applied for a HAMP modification on more than one occasion. My wife is disabled and I lost my employment in October 2012. During the time I lost my employment, the home was affected by Hurricane Sandy. I was out of work for more than 6 months. We contacted Citimortgage and they said that they will help but that was not the case. I depleted all of my retirement funds because they said that we needed to get current to get the HAMP modification. We got current and they changed the representative and denied the modification. Citimortgage denied us every time until recently because we had strong documented evidence of their deceptive practices and got support from the Long Island Housing Partnership's, Carrie **, the NY State Attorney General's Office, and Touro Law School. We are appreciative that LIHP, NYS Attorney General Eric Schneiderman office, and Touro Law were able to help to an extent but we feel that the real battle is just beginning.
For more than two years, they would say we were missing documents and were not in compliance, they changed representatives numerous times (even the representative did not know that they were no longer involved), and we had to start the documentation process all over. They placed us on a $11 dollar 8 month forbearance plan based on a signed agreement to have it taken away according to their representatives (they also said we could not pay more than $11 dollars placing us more into debt), which was not true because Ginnie ** had the status as being on a forbearance plan all along. They then placed us on a 3 month trial modification which was extended to more than 7 months. Finally we received the HAMP Modification agreement and the loan was split up now to have a deferred portion in which a balloon payment of $154,000 has to be paid at the end. This company had hidden agendas every time. Its deceptive practices are wrong. Now with the modification in its last stages, we have decisions to make.
In addition to all of this, Citimortgage reported our credit history incorrectly. Furthermore, because my credit history was reported negative it increased my time in unemployment. Companies use your credit report in reviewing your management skills and responsibility. You're damned if you do and damned if you don't. Another issue we have to deal with. Citimortgage the city that never sleeps when it comes to false misrepresentation of fact.

I applied to renew my $200,000 equity Line of Credit with Citibank. My home, the collateral property is appraised at just under one million dollars. After six months of going back and forth with Citibank and two credit inquiries they are STILL not finished processing paperwork. They ask for more and more information about other properties I own that are unrelated to the collateral property, they have run my credit report twice now (and thus lowering it each time), and still after six months there is no outcome. DO NOT EVER ATTEMPT A RE-FINANCE or LOC with Citibank. It's as if they are intentionally trying to ruin your credit by repeated inquiries which lower your credit score, and months later there is nothing from them except for more requests for more information that is irrelevant to the collateral property.

After a hardship, co-owners losing job, we applied for modification with Citi Mortgage. Citi granted modification with hidden stipulation. Our balance was $360,000, value less than $260,000, new bal $260,000 and $100,000 deferred. The deal was to either take the offer or go into foreclosure and we had only a short period of time to make the decision. They really pushed our back against the wall on that deal, but we had no choice. Now we have a $100,000 loan in deferred for the life of the loan.

Shame that my mortgage loan was transfer back in 2009 to CitiMortgage. The company stand on customer trust is little to none. I had an illness setback three years ago and had applied for a loan modification. The process is going on for three years, and this company continue to play games to the point the home is in foreclosure status. My advice to all seeking a loan modification is to do everything possible to not to do so. A company's demise is lack of trust and this company is heading that way. Best regards and success in dealing with this company if you do suffer a setback, if your home qualifies under the Making Home Affordable program, I think you are safe. Otherwise Citi will not even offer a lending hand. You can make the call first to 1-888-995-HOPE to see if you can get a modification through the Making Home Affordable program. Under this program, Citi cannot refuse, as they were originally a recipient of the government bailout and they have no choice but to honor that program.

I was advised a month before Citimortgage was paid off in our divorce settlement, that I should submit documentation (divorce decree and quitdeed) to request that the remaining escrow funds be issued in a check in my name. I was given a fax number and told I could submit these documents AFTER the buyout. They were paid off (By me, the wife) on April 3 and on April 8th I sent a fax with the requested information, specifically stating that IF I WAS MISSING ANYTHING OR SOMETHING MORE WAS REQUIRED, THAT THEY SHOULD CONTACT ME! Email address, home phone and cell phone were given.
It turns out I needed the 'official' decree (which wouldn't have been available until they say they had to "automatically" mail out the check in BOTH our names) in order to make my request valid, and they claimed they contacted me via email. THERE WAS NO EMAIL FROM THEM in my inbox. SO, beware...once you pay them off, they couldn't give a whit about you as a customer, reading your correspondence, communicating with you, nothing. They have royally messed up this situation.

In October of last year, we began to fall behind on our mortgage payment. Over the course of the next few months, my husband was off of work without pay for several weeks. We are a family of six and his income is our sole income. As a result, an attempt to compensate for the monies lost when he was off of work became next to impossible. We just kept falling farther and farther behind."90 day mark" we would be "ok".
We proceeded to send in the second half of the payment. At this point, we had just passed that 90 day mark. However, this payment would set us back to 90 days behind. A few weeks later, our payment (the second half) was returned to us. When I called CITI, I was told that they could not accept our payment because foreclosure was initiated. They explained that we should look into modification. I told her that I didn't want to go that route if possible. We went through it several years prior and it was a nightmare. I asked if we could work out a repayment plan instead.
I told her I could put $2000.00 down (which was half of our past due amount) and repay the rest via their repayment plan. The rep. told me that our payments would be a double mortgage payment for 5 months, along with the $2000.00 down, and ending in a balloon payment at the end of the 5 months. I found this absurd, in that we would only be repaying $2000.00. When I voiced my concern, I learned that not only had late charges and fees incurred, but we now owed attorney fees, etc.
We are now into the month of Feb. We are still falling farther behind because they would not let us make a payment. Luckily (or so we thought) we received our tax return. I immediately called CITI and told them that we wanted to bring our mortgage current. We had the funds in our account. They declined our money. We were told that the only money that they would accept would be the total mortgage paid in full. They urged us to continue on with the modification process. This process took 3 months, countless requests for documentation, unanswered e-mails and phones not returned.
This morning I called my loan specialist to check up on the progress of our modification. Turns out we were denied. The reasons given were that we have exceeded our allowable modifications on this property. We did a modification several years ago when my husband lost 3 quarters of his pay due to a company takeover. I asked again about a repayment plan. That too was denied. The reason was that we didn't make enough money. Funny, minutes before I spoke with our specialist, I was on a call with a rep. from Making Home Affordable. We went over our budget together and she stated that we DID make enough money to do a repayment plan. Wonder where CITI is getting their figures???
Our only options now are to do a short-sale, foreclosure, or come up with 8700.00 in 2 weeks! Why 8700.00? Turns out that not only are late charges added in as well as attorney fees, we are also being charged close to 1700.00 in processing fees for the denied modification! Recall the reason we were denied - allowable limit of modifications reached. My question is, why pre-approve us for a modification and have us go through this hell and uncertainty for 3 months, knowing BEFORE the process was initiated that we would not be approved? Oh, that's right - because they were able to squeeze more money out of us and leave us with no other option but to short sale.

I have been going h l with Citibank. Almost 2 years ago, I tried to do a loan modification. Couldn't get one. Then I hired a lawyer and got one. Told them that new loan was still too much. They said, "Do what you can do." Tried to market my home for what it was worth. No response, no showings. Then we tried a short sale. Finally got a buyer. They went back and forth and back and forth. Need new paperwork, then they would start the process again. After 9 months they finally came back with, "We have reappraised the property and we want more money from the buyer." The buyer laughed and walked away.
By this time I had enough and went ahead with my planned move. So then Citibank suggested a deed in lieu. Again they went back and forth, back and forth. It was like it was a plan. I finally contacted a lawyer and started bankruptcy proceeding... Then they said that the deed in lieu couldn't go forward because of this. Then I said just take it back and I was told it's not that easy. And then I started to receive letter about loan modifications. My bankruptcy is finished.
Citibank asked the court for a hearing. Now they are playing a game of postponing court dates. And my vacant home decreases in value. They changed the locks. I can't get in and it has already been vandalized. This is not the way to do business. They have made me feel like a criminal as if I had planned to defraud them. Instead on just a retired person whose income keeps on getting smaller.

Well I can write a book about this company (CitiMortgage). Awful customer service. My husband job closed down that he had been working at for 12 yrs (2009), started the process of Loan Modification right away. Paperwork after paperwork was sent in. I was told every time I called that I was miss something. So I sent it, months went by still try to get modification. NO RESULTS.. So I tried short sale. Well again NO RESULTS. I had 2 separate offers. Clients had so many days to purchase the house. It took almost 6 months to approve short sale for 1 of the clients. She walked away saying it's taking too long. She is about to lose her voucher to purchase a home. 2 days later we received email short sale was approved.. That buyer had already signed another offer so another offer was placed for another buyer which took almost 8 months.
CITI wanted buyer to purchase home as commercial property, that buyer walked.. At this point I'm about hairless. I tried loan modification again, which I was approved for on August 29, 2013. Document mailed out I received them on September 5, 2014, had until September 6, 2013 so signed and returned them with a payment of $1280.50 for some additional fees, but my trial payment was under $700. October 1, 2013 was my 1st payment. When I called in to make the payment I was advised they made a error on the paperwork. WRONG AMOUNT.. I asked "why should I have to pay for a error your company made not me? I'm paying what I agree to pay..."
I continue to make my payments until my call to CitiMortgage today 2/24/14 inquiry on finalized paperwork of my loan modification. I was told that it was deny due to payment submitted was not in full. So at this point I'm tired of stressing on this house. I setup appointment with a attorney today.. From reading all of these reviews I'm not the only person going through BS with this company... GOOD LUCK TO ALL CITI MORTGAGE CUSTOMERS..

Hi, My name is Michelle **. I have been working on behalf of my father Harold ** to try and get his loan modified. He has signed paperwork giving me permission to discuss his account. My dad called and said that he received letters from the lawyer stating that the house is being sold on March 4. We want to save the house. His health is not the best and this whole process has been completely ridiculous. During the past few months I was behind too on my mortgage and I was able to get mine modified without all this paper pushing and craziness and I have way more bills than he has. I am not sure why Citimortgage is doing this, but based on my research Citimortgage has been investigated for fraudulent foreclosure practices and ironically the same law firm is being used to handle my dad's.
I will be gathering more research to gather as much as I can in his defense. He may be on SSI but he is willing to pay his mortgage if you will just work with him. If the house is sold there will be complaints made and his voice will be heard so maybe someone else will not have to go through what he has gone through. I have contacted FHA and other resources to get some help. We have been through 3 reps that were supposed to work on his without any positive result. Every time he calls he can never speak to the rep associated with his account. They are stalling and this should be stopped. We have submitted paperwork many times and the latest was December 2013, which is posted on the webpage, faxed, and emailed, so they can't say that they did not received it.
The HomeSafe GA group is trying to help my dad with authorization to do so, but they are having trouble getting in contact with reps that have any type of clue of what is going on. I will go the ends of the Earth to make sure that CitiMortgage pays for what they are doing to my dad and so many others. People should speak up and loud to stop this mortgage company from being able to kick people out of their homes, even after the owners have jumped through all of their hurdles and cut through all of their red tape. Based on what I have researched he is and I also have found research showing how CitiMortgage has fraudulently foreclosed on others. Also the lawyer (Phelan Hallinan & Schmieg) that is handling my dad's "foreclosure" is the same one mentioned in this article. Please guide us in the right direction to hopefully save my dad's home and to help stop CitiMortgage from taking advantage of our senior citizens, people on SSI and SSD, and our veterans. The more I research this company the more I wonder how it has been allowed to continue to operate.

We had our house for sale and put off paying our property taxes until the week they were due, we sent the check to our county. Before our check cashed, Citimortgage paid the taxes and opened an escrow [we never had escrow, nor did we want it]. Our check was returned to us from the county and the nightmare began. I called almost weekly to try get the escrow account closed.
We continued making our regular payment monthly. It took 6 months of calls and live chats to get it straightened around. I was repeatedly told inaccurate information. I would do exactly what they said and I would log in and our account would be wrong, or payments misapplied. They even paid our Feb. 14, 2014 tax bill in December 2013 - after telling me they would not, because I had faxed them a copy of last years bill showing the due date. Our county hadn't even mailed them out yet so I couldn't give them this years.
Payments were misapplied now when our escrow is finally closed and it cost us about $2,000, for 3 months our principal stayed the same, even though we were making our payments, which I still don't know how they could make that math work? I have never ever dealt with a company that cared so little and had such terrible customer service. I will never deal with them again. Be extremely careful - we were paying high interest 7%+ and they messed our account up repeatedly. Nightmare and SO frustrating!

My husband was put on leave without pay on May 2013. I immediately called CitiMortgage to let them know what was happening and they offered a mortgage modification/hardship assistance program. It is February 2014 and I have told no less than 5 times that it's in the final five days of review. I have had 5 different Homeowner Support Specialists and they are basically flippant about my situation or the process. They simply tell me, "It's in the final stages", although they keep asking me for the same paperwork over and over again. Meanwhile, I am two payments behind and I keep getting default letters from them. I would not recommend them for your mortgage company. I'm not sure if I'm in a position to find another mortgage company but I may have to look into it. I'm not sure what to do. All I know is CitiMortgage is giving me the run-around.

I was on the phone with Citi over 2 hours yesterday! I am so angry! They are using #2 in this modification document to say I cannot assume the loan or process a release of Liability or a HARP. It doesn't say that anywhere in that paragraph nor would I presume that this paragraph had this meaning.
Yesterday at 4:24 I called Citi from my work phone ** - I spoke to Angel. She transferred me to Robert. Robert couldn't do anything to help me. Got transferred to Ryan. He's saying that Clause #2 prevent me from getting a Release of Liability. Then he transferred me to Isaac because I said Citi needs to tell me how I can get Emanuel removed from my mortgage when Citi promised me in 2010 that if I modified and kept my loan current that I could get a HARM or Release of Liability. Isaac the customer service supervisor transferred me to homeowners Support Team ** where I spoke to David. David said my loan had to be current for at least 6 months and have no lates in 12 months. The only way to know if I qualified for a HARP was to apply. He couldn't tell me if my loan met the qualifications. This is a complete 360 from what I was told on January 21st. I was told then that my loan could not qualify for HARP because I had already done a modification.
The call with David was dropped and I called back from my cell phone. It was 5:30 by now. I got Claudia, she transferred me to ** refinance dept for HARP, after arguing with her that I just wanted to speak to David so I wouldn't have to re-communicate my situation. I got Portia, a mortgage consultant. Portia couldn't help me because she didn't know about the HARP program. She transferred me to Michael who said according to his system, I was late in October. But, after arguing with Michael that Citi had two different systems and their systems were not in sync, he finally got a customer service representative on the line who told him I WAS NOT late in June or October.
The payment was made in the month it was due, but didn't show on Michael's system until the following day. But, I have not been late on my loan since 2/2013. Michael then said he was going to check with the underwriters and get back to me today on whether or not my loan could qualify for the HARP program. He was concerned that I have a 3.5 interest rate now, but the current HARP rate is almost 5. That would increase my payment. I told him I am looking to reduce the principle balance on my loan because my house is upside down and I want the same rate but most of all, I need Emanuel removed from the loan or I will be forced to walk away from the property because I cannot short sale it. The loan is current. You cant short sale a current loan.
Michael didn't call me back on Friday as promised. I called today and got Reggie. Reggie gave me Michael's direct number. I called Michael 3 times. Finally I was able to reach Michael. He was rude, lacked compassion and respect. He was also argumentative saying, "if you made your payment on the 1st this wouldn't have happened". He said it didn't have HARP codes because of the two late payments. He transferred me to Jo-ann. Jo-Ann transferred me to a HARP Specialist at number ** who was Dawn. Dawn said she had no ID#, but she transferred me to Jose, specialist who pre-screens. Jose after getting my identity information transferred me to Sara - a mortgage consultant.
Sara 3-way called customer service. They told her that 5:00 was the cut-off for posting payments. I read to her what was on my receipt, which said 11 pm Central time and my payment had been made at 10:59 am. She seemed surprised and this is what made her 3-Way customer service. We got Kati, a supervisor in customer service. Kati is sending screen shots to Sara. Sara is going to put in a research request to the HARP underwriters providing the screen shots and requesting that my account be given HARP codes so that I can apply for HARP. Sara also asked for my e-mail and said she'd get back to me. She said it might take a couple days. She also said she'd need the Quit Claim again. Although I said Citi already had the Quit Claim, I was more than willing to send any documents she needed. This is the first person that has been helpful.
Citi continues to make promises and tell me what the qualifications are. Then when I meet the qualifications they change them to something else or come up with another issue - listed property, number of inquiries, bankruptcy, etc... none of these are supposed to disqualify me for the HARP loan. Try, do I have an recourse with Citi? I think they are getting away with screwing me because I reaffirmed and now they won't live up to their promises to remove Emanuel from the mortgage.

I had a CitiMortgage loan and escrow account. I refinanced my mortgage through my local credit union on Oct 31, 2013. My property taxes were due on Nov. 15, so the new mortgage holder, after checking that they hadn't been paid, withheld the amount due from my cash-out amount. Even though CitiMortgage wasn't supposed to pay the taxes (they wouldn't be holding the mortgage when my taxes were due), I called them up on Oct 31 to be sure. I told them that my new loan holder already took out the money needed for the taxes and were responsible to pay it, and that CitiMortgage should refund all the escrow money back to me ASAP. He said that they had already taken out the full tax amount on Oct 22 from my escrow account.
When I told him that Washington county doesn't have it, he said that they normally put all the Wash Co. taxes in one big check, but he couldn't tell me whether it had been sent or not. Certain that they hadn't written the check yet, I told him to put my money back in my escrow account, and send it to me. He said they couldn't do that. I asked him why not, and he said he didn't know where my money was. He would open an investigation, but it would take 21 days to find out. Evidently, they never did put the money back because Wash Co. received their check on Nov 12th. On Nov. 14th, CitiMortgage notified Wash Co that they mistakenly sent them my duplicated tax money, and asked that Wash Co send THEM a check for the duplicated amount.
When the county finally sorted everything out, they sent CitiMortgage a check on Dec 4. I called CitiMortgage later, and they acknowledged that they got the check on Dec. 6, but didn't know when I would get the refund. I finally received it on Dec 30. Separate from this, On Nov 30, a full month after their mortgage had been paid off, I received a check from them for $2470, saying that it was for the remaining escrow balance, and for overpayment of interest. Since I pay $530 per month into the escrow account, and they are only allowed two months of buffer, clearly they were sitting on a lot of money that they weren't supposed to have. It's now Jan. 26, 2014, and I still haven't received an escrow fund account statement.

I was diagnosed with cancer at the age of 44 and with a 1 1/2 and 4 year old at home. I contacted CitiMortgage to let them know that I was running low on my personal funds and I was hoping for help by way of a modification. I was told I was not eligible because I was not late on a payment. Well I paid my mortgage every month on time and even paid a little extra in hopes of paying the mortgage down sooner until my cancer diagnosis. I started defaulting on the note and was told I could get help. SIX modifications later, I still haven't met all their requirements and even got a roommate so I could show extra income as my DTI was supposedly a problem on one of the modifications. So I now have to wait THREE MONTHS to show the income on my bank statement.
Okay, I did it and guess what? MY HOUSE IS IN FORECLOSURE! I can't win. I did hire a lawyer but it doesn't look so promising because clearly there aren't professional people at CitiMortgage. I used to ask the person on the phone how long they worked for CitiMortgage and the average was 6 MONTHS! These "kids" have NO CLUE about mortgage loans and we are all getting taken advantage of. Can't someone with a legal background offer any advice on how we can sue CitiMortgage? My oldest son (8) is so upset when he hears me talking about the house. It isn't fair. All I asked for was a modification and they won't take a dime of my money at this point. Having had ovarian cancer, I certainly don't want it to come back but with all the stress they are putting me through..... I don't want to think about it.

Called numerous times in regards to PMI. Customer service has well spoken language and are polite; however, documents are easily lost, no communication between personnel at CITI mortgage, different people giving different information. Contract appraisers that deliberately estimate houses to meet CITI benefits (and charge 400-500$ at same time). The appraiser appraised our house ~25% below market value. No legal way of pulling the battle through. You just get "wrapped" into CITI system and you will loose prior picking up the phone.
My complaint is not about customer service, rather about the CITI mortgage system that does anything and everything possible to rip off customers and feed their bonuses. No wonder why company is doing so great... Just a note to future customers that are considering CITI mortgage for their home loans - run away as far as you can.... Also, read fine print. You'd be surprised what is written into the print that can HURT your wallet.

I also have been trying to get a Loan Modification with Citi, will be 2 years next month. When they started the foreclosure we went to Mediation. According to the Citi Mortgage Representative I was $300.00 below income wise per month. I went back to work part-time because I am disabled and cannot really work full time due to heart problems and other issues. Since then I got married which my husband now takes care of a lot of the expenses. Last package update was sent on October 1, 2013. I received a letter of Approval from their Office on or about 12/9/13. Subsequent to that I received a decline.
When I contacted them, no one could agree who had sent. The house was put up for sale on January 31, 2014 and to this day I have not received a Notice of Sale. Not only this looks like a fraud, I now have the income to get going on paying a mortgage. Yes, I believe Citi needs to review their policies in helping people like us that are struggling. Also, they sure knew how to get a bail-out from the Government, gave fat bonuses to their CEOS and left us behind. What goes around comes around, and all I hope is that if they need help in the future, our Government sees them for what they are.

EVERY time I was told I needed to send in new documents because they didn't have what they needed, I would do that within 24-48 hours!!! I was told before Christmas that it FINALLY went to the Underwriters. I had to call with updates. No news, no news, until last week I get a notice in the MAIL saying my request has been denied because I didn't send in all the documents!!!!! I AM SERIOUS!!!!
I called to find out what was missing, THIS time I didn't SIGN my 1099 documentation, which I was NEVER told to do over the past year!!! I get NO phone call or email, so I can send them the required document in 5 minutes, just a DENIAL!!! I can't believe how unbelievably frustrating this is!!!! The time I've spent on this nightmare is a total JOKE! Do everything you can possibly do to NOT WORK with CITIBANK!!!! I should have tried refinancing with my local banks months ago when interest rates were still low. I am going to have a mental breakdown. Background: 8 years with Citibank, never missed a payment, excellent credit.
Tuesday, January 14: contacted (via "live chat") an agent ("Jason") to discuss refinance options. I told Jason that I had resources to pay down current balance significantly, then would like to proceed to refi on that balance. I said I was looking at many lenders' proposals, but wanted to stay with Citibank if possible given my tenure with them, and depending on what Citi could offer as comparison.
Jason assured me that because Citi valued me as a long-time client in excellent standing, he would cut an additional .125 percent from the current rate, and quoted me figures that sounded promising. He also followed up with a phone call, and said this cleared with his manager. Said he would email me the application and details immediately following this call, to include this client reward reduction, and that this process could be expedited, due again to my "customer loyalty."
In this conversation, I directly asked Jason if I could expect any problems or retractions in the refi process from Citi following the pay-down of balance to much lower figure. "That will not be an issue," I was assured.
Wednesday: Still no email from Jason.
Thursday: Letter from Citbank, dated Jan 15, stating that that my loan will be transferred to Seterus, Inc (google this "company"- yes, as Slitherin as it sounds) effective Feb. 1. Citi wanted to also take the opportunity to say "thank you. "
Thank you, Citibank. Free at last, and am so happy to post my thanks for your Customer Appreciation over every wall, with a cyber spray can of red.

I have a home loan with citimortgage that I had without fail paid on time or early for 7 years when this happened. I continued to pay without the ability to work for 3 years using savings I had set aside for my 3 children's college after making the decision that keeping their home at this time was more important and hopeful that I'd have the ability to help them with college when the time comes. When this tragedy occurred I immediately contacted citimortgage to ask for some assistance in possibly refinancing or modification due to the economy at the time I purchased my home the interest rate is very high.
Citimortgage refused to consider refinancing due to my employment situation and the damage that was done to my credit after the illness began. I bought my home with only my income and credit as my husband was not involved at the time. I was very upset when they wouldn't work with me considering the situation especially when I had enough money saved at the time to pay 30% down to refinance. Instead I was left with that 30% to pay the mortgage as is for 3 years. At the 3 year mark I was in a still difficult financial situation so I was unable to pay the mortgage amount any longer. I was immediately able to seek out a possible forbearance at that time, of course it took about 3 months to start this program so I still made the payment via personal loans though each time they were late. I called them almost daily as the notices said I must call them to avoid foreclosure. and to make clear I needed help and would do whatever necessary to keep the home.
They continued to call and send at least one notice daily, sometimes more threatening foreclosure despite the fact that I desperately needed help in some way and was making that very clear to them and even requested to pay a slightly decreased but still consistent payment. They refused to accept "partial" payments as giving any credit toward extending the date of foreclosure. Finally I was able to begin a 4 month forbearance plan which was paid without fail and at the end of the forbearance agreement I was required to pay the entire back payment due in a lump sum. All along I retained hope that they would in some way be able to assist me to modify or refinance my home at the forbearance end. When the lump sum time came despite the 30% equity in my home they still refused to offer any help in decreasing interest rate or modifying loan. This was difficult for me to wrap my mind around considering the fact that they had no problem with me keeping the current loan as is but would not allow a refinance because I no longer qualified to be a mortgage approved customer despite the fact that I already was one.
Even more upsetting was that even after the agreement was made with them for the entire four months, the threatening letters indicating that I was delinquent, at risk of foreclosure, needed to make an agreement (even though I already had one) then about 6 weeks into the forbearance payments the door hangers and fed ex threats began and the letters continued as well. Each time almost daily I continued to contact them as the letters asked. Each call I was told "our collection department is a separate dept. so they will continue to see your account as delinquent despite the agreement". This seemed to me very upsetting that one dept. was unable to make another dept. aware of my account having an agreement that was being handled as agreed to. I began to take into account the money this company was spending on threatening letters mailed, fedex delivered and letters being left on my door each day, there had to be a minimum of $100 each month being spent on this practice.
Each time I called I would let the company know that is was not only putting myself and my children in fear that despite the agreement and follow through we were still at risk of foreclosure as well as the concept of how much money and effort they were spending on this practice simply because they had the inability to put each dept. in anyway connected to know of the agreement. They would state "we are aware this is bothersome to our customers and difficult for them to know which letters to ignore and which to follow through with" or simply told "disregard the threatening letters and calls because you've already made an agreement with our dept." When in the situation that your home is at risk or you are being told could be taken from you it's slightly difficult to "ignore or disregard".
I am very aware that it is my responsibility to keep my mortgage current and the situation was occurring based on my inability to do so. But I also was making every attempt to keep them informed and following through in anyway I was able to. I have now reached the end of the forbearance agreement and again I remain in the financial unstable place. I am only asking for any type of refinance or agreement that would help by decreasing the payment by even just 10%. They continue to not even consider this based on my credit despite my ability to make a down payment on the refinanced or modified loan for my home that has at least 30% equity above the remaining loan amount. Citimortgage has no issue with allowing me to remain a customer at a very high interest rate considering current rates, but refuse to modify or approve me to be what they are calling "a new loan customer".
Citimortgage has spent on me alone at least $100 dollars a month sending me collection, foreclosure dept letters, calls, and fedex, or door hanging statements to immediately pay the past due amount based on what the call "partial payment" that are the agreed forbearance payments. The letters continue to say "you must immediately contact the agreement dept. to request a temporary agreement ..when I already have one! The amount of money they are wasting with the argument that the collection dept. is a separate dept and has no knowledge of the agreement so nothing can be done to stop this.
Wow is all I can say! Why are they unable to assist an existing mortgage holder or let one dept know what another is doing. Imagine the financial irresponsibility they are exhibiting, the money they are wasting and the irrational concept of not approving a current customer for a refinance but having no problem keeping them as a customer at what they know is a interest rate that is completely inappropriate at this time. With a customer that despite dramatic financial difficulty has never had any history of late payments.
Again I know it is my responsibility to pay the mortgage agreement I made when I purchased the home. But the practices of citimortgage when their customers are experiencing traumatic unexpected situations and doing any and all things asked of them to follow through with this agreement. I have always had the apparent misconception that the bank doesn't want my home so they would help me in even a slight way to keep my home from being in foreclosure and becoming their responsibility. Citimortgage has definitely made clear to me I was very wrong in thinking that.

On 12/27/2013 I set up our 1/1/2014 mortgage payment on Citi's website. On 1/6/2014 I was balancing our checking account online with Bank of America and found that Citi had taken double the authorized amount. I contacted them immediately and was assured that they would return the overage to our account in 2-3 business days. Here we are countless phone calls and 10 days after their "error" and we still do not have our money in our account. Every day it's more empty promises. They expect us to be understanding and patient while they try to make things right.
How understanding would they be if we owed them money? It's criminal that they can take what has not been authorized and face no consequences. But the consumer must now decide whether to feed their family or default on other obligations, while Citi plays around with other people's hard earned money. Shame on you!!! And shame on all of you, customer reps, lying to people giving them false hope.

My precious daughter Elaine died in a tragic accident 2 years and 7 months ago today. Thirty-eight years old, Elaine had never married, had no children and died intestate. Successful professionally, she had a lovely home in a wonderful neighborhood near Albuquerque; thanks to CitiMortgage, it still stands neglected and empty. This neglect further breaks my heart - Elaine was current on her mortgage payments. And 2 years and 7 months ago, her earthly home was worth much more than the mortgage balance. Unfortunately, CitiMortgage (CM) had obtained Elaine's mortgage from her local bank. As her court-appointed legal representative, I quickly notified CM and offered to do whatever was best for CM to expedite the sale and avoid the expense of foreclosure.
What has happened and not happened since, I do not understand. I have a stack of papers over 2 inches thick: over and over, to Elaine in "default"; over and over, to the Estate of Elaine **; over and over from ** & Assoc., an Albuquerque law firm; and for the last seven months from ** Law Group, another Allbuquerque firm.
Seven months ago, on the two-year "anniversary" of my dear daughter's death, I posted a ripoff report about CM; they are evil and incompetent. Someone from CM called and said he would look into it and get back in touch with me. He did not call me back and was never available when I called his number. Evidently all he did was fire ** & Assoc., hire ** Law Group and let things start all over again. Mid-Dec. another letter was sent to "Elaine ** Estate" thanking her for the "opportunity to service" her mortgage needs....Merry Christmas....
My son and I have been defendants in a law suit with CM as the plaintiff for over 2 1/2 years. We cannot afford ongoing legal assistance. Fortunately, we have avoided being tricked into agreeing that we are "liable for default judgment." And the Court knows and has legally acknowledged that my son and I had and have NO INTEREST in Elaine's property; we did not co-sign her mortgage and we made no mortgage payments. How can we be defendants when we have nothing to defend??
My son and I are being harassed and now, almost 74 years old, I am suffering from elder abuse. We should be the plaintiffs with CitiMortgage, ** & Assoc., and ** Law Group as the defendants.

I retired in 2007 and was unable to sell a house valued at $325,000 finally reducing it to $239,000. In 2008, I started renting the house for less than what it was costing me (-$400 a month). I had 3 different renters through 2013. The last one, Linda , had to be evicted leaving with over $10,000 in damages and $5000.00 in unpaid rent. She was in the house 72 days after declining to renew the lease. I contacted Citimortgage in August 2013 to see if I could get a temporary forbearance on payments. I was told this program wasn't available. After borrowing $1500.00 a month to remain current on the mortgage, I called in early December and the representative told me to contact Fannie Mae never mentioning the temporary payment forbearance that I'd asked about.
I received a call from Citimortgage about a customer satisfaction survey I rated 2 out of 10. I explained why and what I was looking for specifically the payment forbearance and was assigned a counselor representative to assist me. We explored many options including foreclosure and deed in lieu. I was very specific in telling him that I was looking for a simple payment forbearance until I became solvent. I had the house brought back to a sellable condition in October spending the $10,000 to repair the damages done all on a credit card. It went on the market 10/15/13. The last straw came today when I received a packet. Guess what? The first item listed was what I had been looking for and told it didn't exist.
My questions to Citimortgage: Why am I being punished for being current on mortgage? Why did it take 5 months, numerous phone calls, and time to find out that this was available? Why do I get the impression that you would prefer a foreclosure?

I complied with all conditions even when I was asked to resubmit documents I previously submitted. Yesterday I was informed my application was denied because I didn't submit the Schedule E tax form. I did not do it intentionally and attempted to explain. I submitted emails to the Fraud and Prevention department and no one will respond except for one person, Christina **, who stated she would forward my info to the correct department. I've paid the appraisal fee and application fee and down payment and now I have to reapply and pay everything all over. How could this be? Citibank never allowed me to appeal or explain. I was not hiding anything from them because I gave them the closing statement for the house. I feel this is not fair and they should have allowed me to appeal.

I called again this summer and was assured I could try again. I have sent all the information in at least 2 or 3 times. I have kept in contact by calling and email, but have only gotten a couple of calls back but got two letters this week stating that we will be okay if we pay $7354.60. The next sentence says any added interest will also be due at said time. I have been trying all morning to reach somebody to find out the amount. Their number says closed, to call back normal business hrs. It is normal hours. The other numbers that are available can't find my account. I am afraid that even with us paying the amount stated, that they are going to foreclose anyway. Why can't I reach somebody? We only have a few days left. This is my husband's home place since 1955.

I am writing this so anyone who is informed enough to seek other's advice and experience before starting a loan, is informed about the horrible service this mortgage company will provide for them. Citibank's Mortgage Dept. is more than enthusiastic in getting you to give your $500.00 to start the 4-month process of nightmarish paperwork. I actually sent the same paperwork multiple times only to be told they didn't have it. I wonder if it's getting into the wrong hands (a scary thought). Then from there on it's telephone tag and pulling teeth to get return phone calls. Don't expect to get many questions answered if you have them because you won't, someone will just forward it to someone else.
I'm sad to say I'm actually with CitiMortgage and thought it would be a simple and streamlined process since they had my information already. I couldn't have been more mistaken. All I wanted to do was get a lower interest rate, and all I received was a very bad headache and told that my credit will be ruined if I didn't sign more paperwork 15 days after I had already signed at an Attorney's office. Someone had forgotten to do their job and it was going to affect me. Now I'm forced to start the whole process again, hopefully I can find a more consumer friendly company as soon as I mentally heal from this ordeal.

I as well, have attempted to refinance with Citi, and denied. Then attempted a modification also declined. I have spoken with numerous persons at CitiMortgage, and now have been advised they do not have real Loan Officers, they have collection agents handling refinances, with minimal training and absolutely no mortgage knowledge. They can't even pass the National or State tests that are required for all Mortgage Brokers and Mortgage Bankers. They answer the phone Citi Bank in Refi department so they get away with not having to license the agents. No one that you speak with has any knowledge nor authority to do anything - they just pass the buck and tell you that they did not receive the documents that you had sent numerous times. What actually happens to your documents, they are e-fax received and an agent somewhere in a 3rd world country uploads them into a viewing system usually in the wrong account, so your documents are in Mr. Smith's account that is why they can't find them.
If you have a loan with them and have no issues it is fine since everything is computerized. If you want to refinance go somewhere else since Citi only hires in right to work states that allows them to pay low wages and reduce staff at any time for any reason. They have Operations Managers running call centers for mortgages with Zero knowledge of mortgages, no training. All they want is the staff get you off the phone within 6 minutes and have you happy no matter what falsehoods you had been advised. It takes 2 minutes to determine if a specific mortgage is assumable or not. The stories there are true, clients provided total misinformation constantly. The company is terrible from the top CEO and down.

They also state they are committed to keeping families in their home. After sending in all the necessary documents and filling out all the paperwork they required. I received an email on November 14th stating our application was being reviewed by the underwriters and that would take 30-45 days.
Well on November 27th I received an update email stating our application was in the final review, and would take 6 business days for an answer. That same day we receive a call from our Homeowner Specialist stating we were not approved for the loan because we do not make enough money! I thought this program was for people who had a loss in income??!! Obviously we do not make enough money. So I asked our "specialist" what our other options are at this point and she tells me to do a short sale on the home! I was at a complete loss of words at this point. We have 3 children and work very hard. It wasn't until August that my position was eliminated. This is also our second time trying to modify our loan with them and being denied. Citi is our second mortgage. Everything (taxes, homeowners insurance, PMI) has always been paid out of our first mortgage. Citi payment since 2005 has always been the same amount. I pay first mortgage, husband pays Citi. My husband has always paid thru bill pay in bank. Citi took money out of our mortgage payment and placed towards mortgage payment thus giving us a deficit in our principal and interest. This went on for months until I opened a letter and saw that we were behind in payments by three months as Citi was not applying the full payment to principal and interest and then charging penalties and interest.
When I spoke with them in August 2012 they told me my insurance company sent them a letter of cancellation and they needed to start paying homeowners insurance from our payments. They sent us two letter they claim. Allstate said they never sent out such a letter. Only letters of coverage. When I then called Citi back they said it would be resolved and that the $3402.00 would be placed back towards the mortgage and late fees and interest would be taken off acct. Never happened.
Now called, spending over ten hours so far on phone. They can't produce the letter of cancellation. They said that was on file because there is no letter. Have asked for statement of acct since origination of mortgage to present now for fifth time in a year and still haven't gotten it. No one is working with me to resolve this problem and I now have received a summons of default. Don't know where or who to turn to to straighten this out. HELP!!!!!!!

I am totally frustrated in trying to make a payment. I am trying to pay THEM and I am NOT able. It is unfathomable that I cannot reach customer service or any representative on a weekend. I have called THREE different numbers multiple times and each tells me this department is closed and to call back during regular business hours. SHOCKING! One of the numbers, 1-800-283-7918, is listed as the "Customer Service" number on its own website. Its own website says its weekend hours are Saturday 8:00am - 8:00pm and Sunday 10:00am - 10:00pm. Each time I call, I am told this department is closed. HOW IS THAT POSSIBLE? I have also called 855-843-2549 and 877-211-3758. I was not able speak to anyone. I am find it incredible that a multimillion (billion?) dollar corporation does not have someone available on a weekend.
I am also amazed I cannot make an online debit payment either. I have tried repeatedly, according to its own website, but I am unable. I constantly get an error message. I can pay on my child's school lunch account any day or time and with a click of a mouse, but I can't pay my mortgage on a CitiMortgage website that works. UNBELIEVABLE. This is the only company I deal with that I cannot make a simple online debit payment. I have made hundreds of online debit payments over the last countless years. This is the only company that makes it difficult. This is also the only company that charges a $10.00 fee. Most do it with no fee or a minimum fee of two - three dollars.
I also tried paying by check, but it does not allow me to select a different amount. My only option is to pay both months' total. I know I am behind on my payments, but unfortunately, I cannot pay both months at once. You would think that it would make sense to let someone pay at least something, then to expect someone to pay both months. I have never experienced this before. CitiMortgage's customer service has always been poor, but never this bad. I will attempt to make a payment on Monday "during regular business hours", whenever that might be. According to its own website, "Citi Never Sleeps".... except on Saturday, Sunday, and outside regular business hours.

When the "underwriter" went over my 2012 taxes, he determined that I was 'losing' $7k a year by owning this house and denied the loan. He apparently does not know anything about taxes and deductions. Both times, he was told that they had no proof of sale from a company that bought the mortgage before they bought it. That was the end of that. Now my husband has gone bankrupt.
In an effort to save our home, we asked that a payment be moved to the back of the loan. We were asked to apply for a government assistance program. After submitting our information, we were told that I was on Social Security and they needed the banking information where that money was being kept. I have never taken Social Security. We explained numerous times that the money they called Social Security income on my tax return was from a forgiven debt in a bankruptcy I went through before I married my husband. This was absolutely, clearly stated on my IRS documentation.
The person who was handling our paperwork (could barely speak English) claimed that e-mailing our information to him didn't work because he was not allowed to open attachments. However, every time we called and a different person spoke to us, they were able to pull up everything we had turned in from our file. Guess who that person is? The same person who said he didn't have our information.
We receive certified bills that we have to pick up at the post office because my husband works graveyard and I work day shift, so no one is there to get the certified mail. We applied for a Mortgage Refinance in June 2013 with CitiMortgage who we have a first mortgage with for many years. The reason for the refinance was because a second mortgage with Greentree Servicing became due with a balloon payment (which we were not aware of until it was already considered past due). I immediately completed the application process with CitiMortgage and was initially "pre-approved". I faxed, emailed, and numerous phone conversations followed for the next 4 months. Our documents were transferred to 3 different loan processors and I was told all documents sent to CitiMortgage had to be resent because "an office closed" with no record of any verifications sent to CitiMortgage at this point. All documents re-faxed, re-emailed, etc.
Now we are being told there was a problem with our deed due to a living trust that needed to be cancelled before CitiMortgage would refinance. I spoke to Supervisor, Victoria **, who reassured me that once this is completed, the loan would be approved. We immediately completed cancelling the living trust (against our attorney's better judgement) and refiled a new deed and emailed all documents to title dept. Another month went by only now to find out that Greentree reported our loan delinquent, therefore CitiMortgage states they had to run another credit report because the previous report ran in June is now what they call "stale" and found my credit score dropped below what they can lend to.
CitiMortgage is denying our refinance after 4 months of waiting with reassurance that once the title was refiled, we would be approved. Their reason being Greentree reporting us delinquent on payments... which we are not. Verification can be obtained from Greentree that we are not late on any payments, but am delinquent with the payoff of the balloon payment. We have kept up with all regular monthly payments and additional interest payments with Greentree Servicing since this all began in June 2013. Greentree has been working with us with the understanding that we were refinancing with CitiMortgage. CitiMortgage even called Greentree Servicing last week to obtain the payoff amount for the second mortgage. Nothing would have changed with our credit scores if CitiMortgage would have completed the loan process within a reasonable amount of time. We are now stuck with a bad credit rating, which we have worked very hard to improve in the last five years.

Hi, I'd like to have someone from our Sales Escalation Team get in touch with you to discuss the experience. One thing I can assure you is that any negative impact to your credit is from Greentree and whomever didn't explain to you that you would have a balloon payment due on the 2nd. You mention below that you weren't aware of the balloon payment until it was already past due, which means by that time Greentree had likely notified the credit bureaus of the delinquency. As an FYI, balloon payments must be disclosed prior to you signing for a loan and it would also be disclosed in any documentation you received as you were getting the loan. Also, Greentree didn't send you a bill for the balloon payment until it was already past due? If that's true, then they made a mistake, and you should discuss that with them.

Like many of you, I am in my fourth month of struggling to complete a refinance of my home loan with Citimortgage. They simply did nothing for three months - just sent me a weekly form letter type email assuring me they were working hard. About a month ago, it appeared they began working on my loan. They have requested all my information twice in the last month and it seems I need to give them a new pay stub every time my wife and I get paid. I have made repeated requests for a copy of my appraisal but still, 3 months later, don't have it. All in all, it is the worst customer service I have ever received from anyone ever.
What we need to realize is this is the new normal in banking customer service thanks to Dodd-Frank-Obama, the banking law enacted a couple of years ago. Dodd-Frank-Obama was specifically designed to eliminate all but the 5 largest banks in the US. Citibank and four other megabanks will be your only banking choice in 5 years. Today these 5 banks are allowed to borrow money from the Federal Reserve at an interest rate 1/2% lower than other banks. There are quotas for union and minority membership on bank boards which small banks, especially in rural areas, will never be able to meet. Dodd-Frank-Obama makes it easy for trial lawyers to sue any small bank failing to meet these quotas out of existence. The small banks will all be gone. In my mind this is as big a threat to the middle class as Obamacare. I would encourage you all to write your Senators and representative and ask them to repeal this awful law. If not, your experience with Citimortgage, along with astronomically high fees for all your banking transactions will be the norm.
There is a simple reason Citibank does not care about customer service - they don't have to and this is only going to get worse. The free checking account you enjoy today will cost you $50 a month in a couple of years unless Dodd-Frank-Obama is repealed.

After wasting 5 months of time, paying fees, CitiMortgage has refused to refinance on the initial offer. Now they are forcing to change the term to higher interest or change loan to an investment property. CitiMortgage is a very unprofessional financial institute. They have lost a financially responsible customer for life.

One of my payments was misplaced, lost or something, and I was NOT notified; then 5 months later, another of my payments was allocated to the escrow account by mistake on their part, making the account 2 months behind. Then they used part of the following payment to pay the lawyers to file a foreclosure lawsuit against me (This is all reflected on the accounting paperwork that they provided to me). I did not find out until they came knocking on my door (September 2011) 6 months later to serve me with the foreclosure; stating that I had stopped making my payments as of January. Meanwhile my payments are electronically being sent by my bank to CitiMortgage on the 1st of every month.
At first I thought that my bank must be sending the payments somewhere else, but is was not true. CitiMortgage was receiving the payments and not applying them to my account. They held those funds for over 18 months (and not interest paid; I received then on March 2013). It is September 2013 and they do not want to negotiate because my house is not upside down. They want my property so they can profit some more. This problem started before January 2011 and to this day, they refuse to negotiate, drop late fees, legal fees, or pay me interest on the money they held for 18 months.
I have the funds to pay CitiMortgage off, but it really gets me upset when I have to pay for their mistake. I have offered them the payoff amount without the late fees, attorneys fees and other fees related to this problem and they have refused time and time again. Lawyers that I have spoken about my case, they all say, you have a good case; it will be $8,000 to $12,000 to represent you and no grantee you will win. That is crazy.
I am amazed that when doing a short sale, mortgage companies including CitiMortgage drop thousands of dollars on the amount owed, in some cases banks pay people to move out after foreclose is over and yet CitiMortgage made a mistake and they want me to pay for their mistake. And what recourse do I have? Spent 2 or 3 times the amount disputed on another lawyer for a chance to get it back.

We applied for a loan modification on a second home we can't sell and is underwater. This is a second mortgage on this house. Citibank recently doubled our payment and we can't pay it. We were given an agent who, knowing we are in our seventies, spoke very low so we could hardly hear her, obviously her way of discriminating against us. We were sent a list of papers to submit, which we did, sending to the fax number she gave us.
When we called that week, after no hearing (she told us we would), she said she didn't get the papers and asked us to submit them again - which we did. She didn't get these either and we found out from someone else at the company that she had given us the wrong fax number. She also gave us the wrong extension number to reach her - three different numbers. She said she didn't get the papers but would suddenly find some of them on her desk. Then asked for all kinds of other - even silly things, and some we'd sent again and again.
We finally said we would FedEx them to her but got a denial letter before she received them. We've asked that she call us three times - no calls at the appointed times. I complained on their online complaint center and was emailed a reply that they would call this morning to talk to me. It is now 12:10 and I said to call in the morning. This is a failing company or a company too big to worry about their customers.

I have contacted CitiMortgage 3-4 times over the past two years to inquire about doing a refi. I pay on time every month because the money is automatically withdrawn. My interest rate is more than twice as high as the current market. I have a 750 or higher credit score. My mortgage is not through Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac so I don't qualify for any of the "Harp" programs. The first time I paid $420 for an appraisal and was denied because my house was underwater. About 7 or 8 months later, I checked with them again and they said that they had to go by the original appraisal for 12 months.
On July 19th I spoke to another rep. She said that they could make a determination about whether or not I qualified for a re-modification after reviewing some financial information. I did not have all of the information needed on hand so rather than guess, I had her send me a "package". I completed the financial statement about 4 days after receiving it. I faxed it in on July 31st. I called them on Sept. 4th to check on the status since I had not heard from anyone. The only thing they could tell me was it had been received Aug. 1st.
On Sept. 11th I called back and was told it had been received, but had not been assigned to anyone, and it could take up to 60 days before that would happen. The person I spoke to suggested that I re-send the same information online and it would be assigned to someone sooner. I'm just fed up with the whole process. They always tell me what a valued customer I am. They just never show me.

Hi Cheryl, I'm sorry about the experience with the paperwork and getting a Homeowner Support Representative assigned. I want to remedy this immediately. Also, I want to make sure you are clear on something....there is no such thing as a re-modification. If we are unable to refinance your home because of the loan-to-value ratio, then we may ask you if you are interested in a loan modification. For a loan modification, you typically have to be suffering from some type of financial hardship. If approved for a loan modification, we would report to the credit bureaus that the loan has been modified and that may have an impact on your credit score. I want to have someone contact you to review the situation, find out where your file is, and answer any questions you may have. In June, Citi apparently re-escrowed our mortgage. We paid our usual amount, then got a call that we were in default. I immediately paid the $92 difference, and requested a WRITTEN explanation as to why our escrow changed. That was never rec'd. So I paid our usual $1,826 again. Got a phone call again. Paid the difference AGAIN, and AGAIN requested a written explanation of why our escrow changed. Never got it. So I paid the usual amount again. Didn't get a call this time. Instead, I got a letter stating we were reported to the credit bureaus as in default. Since it was too late to call Citi (it was a Saturday after 4), I called my bank. The bank verified our funds had gone through. My bank (USAA) said that they guessed it was b/c of the escrow difference, but suggested they were surprised that Citi KEPT our payment that was short. Apparently, the common practice is to return a short payment.
When I called Citi, they agreed they had indeed kept the payment. When I asked why it hadn't been credited to my account, I was told it was b/c it was short the $92. So... they cashed the check, but had it in some sort of "holding account"?? I AGAIN asked for an explanation as to why our escrow went up. I AGAIN paid the shortage. Then asked to speak with someone regarding helping dispute the negative credit report. I was told I couldn't dispute it because I was short. Period. I had requested an explanation of escrow THREE TIMES. Never got it. But I am expected to continue to hand over extra money to them with no explanation.
FIVE years... not ONE late payment. NOT ONE. Even though my husband lost his job. Even though he's a disabled veteran and we are struggling. We make our mortgage our priority. $92 short on a new payment that was mandated without explanation... and they send us to the credit bureaus. I'm FURIOUS. And still NO EXPLANATION. I was told to call back at noon and talk to escrow. Here we go again! How is all of this legal? You can demand money without explanation?

Hi Megan, escrow accounts generally become short because of taxes. Did your property taxes go up? It should have been a very simple explanation upon you calling our customer service department. With all the calls you made to us, it was never explained to you?

Hi Donna, do you know if CitiMortgage owns the mortgage or just services it on behalf of an investor? It's usually the latter, and the investor must approve the short sale. Just like everyone else who has written here, same thing happen to me. Got an offer letter in May to refinance at a lower rate. I already have my mortgage with Citibank, never late on a payment and have impeccable credit. I applied, turned in every document they request with in max 2 days. My loan has been in "process" since. I email my loan officer at least once a week on ETA, if they need anything else from me, what the hold up is. It’s been 4 months and I still have no sight of closing day. I'm already out the interest charges due to the delay of my loan not being processed. If this never goes through I'm out $540 for appraisal and 90$ for HOA docs they requested. Worse of all interest rates shot up and I cannot get the same rate as I could have 4 months ago with someone else. I wish so bad I read these postings before I applied. I am just another victim of Citibank looking for some help.

While re-modifying our loan a few years ago, CitiMortgage told us NOT to make a mortgage payment, put us on trial payments and we got approved. Well to our surprise, we are just finding out that they reported our Mortgage payment late around 10 times!!! We did not know this until we recently had a credit check done. I called CitiMortgage and they told me that they did nothing wrong and that this is the procedure and we should have known. While going through a very serious financial problem at the time, we were focused on not losing our home and we asked multiple times if this would affect us, and they said NO, just one payment would affect us. They continued to report us late to the credit bureaus even after the Re-Mod went through and we were making payments each month.
HOW IS THIS FAIR, HOW IS THIS RIGHT!!!!! They have RUINED our Credit!!!!!!! I understand that maybe 1 or even 2 months to report the payment THEY TOLD US NOT TO PAY, but to report that same payment as late month after month after month and NOT sending us anything saying this is what they did, IS UNREAL. I wish I could SUE them!!! They are the WORST Company I've ever dealt with, especially when you call for help and you get someone over in India or another foreign country!!! So frustrating. Prior to the re-modification, we had credit in the High 700s almost 800. Now it's down to 650!!!!!!!! CitiMortgage claims they are helping you, but in reality, they are hurting you!!!!! This is NOT the American Dream. It's the American NIGHTMARE!!!!!!!!!!

I applied for this loan in May; May 1st to be exact. I paid $670 for appraisal, $40 for my HOA to get them some answers on the condo and was told that my loan has been approved. I even received an email stating conditionally approved upon getting them some documents. Those documents were my pay stubs, account statements, etc. I did provide them for the second time b/c the first ones expired. Latest email I received was telling me that I shouldn't have any problems closing this loan in 2 weeks. I was going to receive almost $20K cash out, my closing costs, etc. were disclosed as well. So based on this information, I called my broker and even established a brokerage account to fund it after closing. What an embarrassment after all!!!!!
Now, I started this process in May when the rates were really low. I was told that my rate is locked for 90 days and then they gave me extension on it. I was not told by anyone that this loan was not going to book because of some stipulations. If you don't do refinancing on the condos, then you will need to disclose that to the client upfront so the client would not spend money on the application, appraisal, HOA, etc. and goes and shops elsewhere. I can't even shop for a better rate now because the rates went up.
Citi was completely unethical handling my refinancing. I shouldn't be the one paying for the consequences of the company's negligence.
If the reason you can't do a refinance is due to an ongoing condo construction in the subdivision, you would need to disclose that stipulation upfront to your client so she/he can make an informed decision. Last minute is not ethical!!! I will make a complaint to BBB, Attorney General and also to media. I will sue Citibank if I need to.

Then in 2012, Citi was demanding an escrow amount of double what would be required for our home. Now in August 2013, they are calling us in default of our loan as we didn't pay their required amount. They are demanding the wrong amount to be paid and saying that we haven't paid any mortgage since August 2012. No one has admitted to cashing our checks, but I'm sure that I can produce the cancelled checks. Never received any information about default from them. The monthly statements still reflect the same info regarding bankruptcy. Will schedule meeting with bankruptcy trustee to see what can be done about this. In June 2012 I became unemployed. With my last two paychecks vacation time and cashing out my 401k I was going to be ok paying all my bills including my home. Thinking I was going to be ok finding a job October came no luck. I did not know my option considering the first time I reached out to Citi was when I filed for divorce. I had spoken to a rep in mortgage department about assistance because with the loss of an income in the home had set me behind and the rep said to me "lady, you need to just pay your bills" so I did. I had to figure out a way to pay this, living paycheck to paycheck and just scraping by but I did it. So the second time around I was discouraged from seeking help but when I got a notice in December of 2012 I called anyway.
I still have not found a job, only income was child support. I explained how I was still going through divorce, had two children and had nowhere else to go. I was told that they would not help me till I found a job. Finally in January I got called back and was hired. I contacted the mortgage department. They then told me I could not be helped till I could provide thirty days of check stubs and assistance forms. As soon as I could I faxed the papers. I then received emails stating that more paperwork was needed. This went on for weeks. I finally called and spoke to the rep and asked please give me a full list of the paperwork and was emailed again. I sent these as well. This went on for months needing me to send the same papers by fax over and over and over sometimes costing me 40-50 dollars each time.
I then received papers from a lawyer saying 08/06/2013 they were going to auction my home. I emailed my rep and asked and never received any information regarding this back, just more request for more paperwork. Then on July 31 received an email that I needed a new application for my claim. I called three times, spoke to two reps. During the process of application the call was dropped on me. I asked for an email of a supervisor. Received it two days later. I had expressed multiple times that I worked very specific hours and at a center where my phone was not allowed.
I received a call on 08/05/2013 to contact my rep about my application. I contacted 08/06/2013 the next day and was told that she could no longer help me that they auctioned off my home. I sent paperwork from January till July 25 and they waited for the last minute to tell me my application needed to be resent and now I have lost my home even with all the effort I put in to keep it. Now I am out a home.

We are in the middle of a very unpleasant situation with CitiBank. My father-in-law had a home equity line of credit for 20 years (as well as a very substantial bank account) with CitiBank which was completely paid off in full well before he died in April 2012. In selling his condo, a title search turned up this mortgage and reported it as still active. My husband and his brother were notified that the closing would be delayed until a closure letter from the bank could be obtained. My husband started this odyssey on July 12, relaying all the necessary documents to the local CitiBank branch here in Dania Beach. He was assured that it would take no longer than 1 week to process the paperwork and generate the closure letter.
Well, it is now July 24, and the closing has been pushed back a total of three times because of this letter. The first delay occurred because we were not told that there was a processing fee that had to accompany the death certificate and request for the closure letter. This fee was a whopping $10. The customer service rep screamed at my husband on the phone until he finally threw the phone down and walked away. I picked it up and she hung up on me. I called back and spoke to another rep named Aldo and he was helpful and told me that the letter could be expedited on Monday so we could receive it on Tuesday. Vince went to the local branch, paid the fee and was assured that the closure letter would be processed and ready on Tuesday, July 23. Assisted by the local bank manager, we did everything we were supposed to do to expedite this process.
The second excuse was that the letter was delayed because they had not received the death certificate. The branch manager faxed the death certificate and had the fax confirmation to prove it but customer service said that wasn't enough so she had to write a letter stating that she had seen the original death certificate. We have both been on the phone with CitiMortgage and I have to say that this is customer service at its very worst. Vince was told at 11 am today that the letter was by the fax machine ready to be sent. Well, when I went in there after work at 4 pm, I was told the letter couldn't be processed until the account had been closed and showed up on the system which would not be updated until tomorrow morning at 7 am central time. It is 5 pm and we have missed our closing yet again.
To say I am livid is an understatement. My husband is beside himself with worry and aggravation. I was told that the supervisor in charge could not be reached because his voice mail was full, that he wasn't in the office and that there was no one higher than this supervisor to speak with so I am doing the only thing I can. I'm taking this to social media and consumer complaint forums.

My husband and I just purchased our home a few months ago using a 5 year ARM. We were going to refinance a few years down the road since rates were relatively steady for the last several years. However, last month, rates shot up in a major way after the Fed announcement so we decided to refinance to a fix rate now. I called Citibank and did our phone application and was told by my Rep that she was submitting it through an automated software underwriting system. She also put me on hold to discuss our rental home and verify the rent amount of income and related expenses with an actual underwriter. She came back on the phone and said the software system application and underwriter review regarding rental was fine and asked if I wanted the paperwork sent to get the loan going.
I agreed to proceed with Citibank since they had a longer lock period than another bank that qualified us (we just purchased the home less than 7 weeks earlier), thinking it would help alleviate stress with the refinance. Citibank charged our credit card over $865 for the loan processing. I submitted income and required additional documentation which actually showed an additional salary from recent raise than at the time of application.
However, yesterday I received a call from a mortgage rep saying the underwriter will likely deny our loan because of an income to debt ratio. We have no debts other than mortgage. Our rental pays for itself (mortgage, taxes, insurance) so I asked the rep why this ratio is an issue now after my phone application where I was told everything was fine. Also, if anything, my income has gone up slightly. It seems like maybe something changed internally whatever ratio policy Citibank has set for themselves. The Rep did not tell me what the ratio is and why Citibank has a problem that another major bank did not have in funding the loan less than 2 months earlier.
In any case, I asked the Rep if I could submit additional assets of other savings to assist them with the comfort that we also have solid savings to support us for many years if needed. The Rep said to submit the additional statements but didn't provide any information on how much additional assets would suffice. I may end up going through the additional documentation hoop in an exercise of futility. In any case, I asked the Rep if Citibank would refund our $800+ fee in the event the loan was denied and she said no. It was a non-refundable fee.
It seems to me that if the customer changes their mind on the loan while Citibank staff was working on the loan, that the fees could legitimately be kept. To keep the fees when the data submitted was actually more favorable than when presented to Citibank at the time of phone application just a few weeks earlier smells of some bait and switch process in play. A poor way to do business in my book. Very disappointing. I don't know what the outcome will be from the additional asset submissions which I have started to send, but it is discouraging that if the loan is not funded, Citibank plans to keep the fees.
My husband and I have great jobs, credit scores near 800 and will proceed with refinance elsewhere if needed. Unfortunately, rates continued to rise during the last 2-3 weeks of the Citibank refi process, which also will be an additional negative impact to us. We have not been provided appraisal or title services that I am aware of so I don't understand why Citibank would be out any money by refunding our fee if they deny the loan. I've sent both emails and called a manager with no response on the current "ratio" issue, how much additional saving documentation is needed and if the loan is denied, will they refund the fee. No response received yet. Refunding the fee if they opt not to fund the loan would be the right thing to do. I hope Citibank rises to the occasion of doing the right thing.

Now, more than 2.5 months later, the refinance continued to be stalled while I have continued to pay a higher rate on my mortgage than the refinance rate they quoted me. I disclosed it as a second home/rental property. Additionally, I pushed and called the loan processor 12 times with no call back response. I finally became suspicious and asked to speak to the loan processors supervisor; before my loan processor would speak to me. The loan processor story was the loan was still in process. Then on June 15, 2013, I received a letter stating my loan was declined. Again, I called and emailed the loan processor at Citibank to find out what was going on, and he admitted stalling on purpose and that he would talk with his supervisor. He also admitted that he was stalling, hoping the rate would come down.
On July 8, 2013, I called the loan supervisor directly and he told me that the loan processor did not go on vacation at the time, and I lost my chance to refinance because the underwriter declined my refinance and gave me two stipulations which I agreed to 2 days later. However, Citibank is saying I had only 24 hours to respond. Coincidently, the deadline was a Friday, June 14, and my birthday. Who does business this way? Also, Citibank has a policy that if you call in to speak to your loan processor, they have a 24-hour turnaround time. After not receiving a call-back response on Monday, I emailed my loan processor on Monday, two days later. Citibank has admitted the industry standard is 4-5 business days turnaround offer. Now, the rates have increased while CitiMortgage offers to accept a new application. Citibank have stalled me intentionally as my loan processor has admitted to, even stating he went on vacation and when he returned, the rates were higher.

Today, after waiting to see what was going to happen, I receive the call saying that 2 underwriters have gone through the paperwork, etc. and find that I am not in need of a loan.
I have made my payments on time - have not missed one payment yet, they say that I am not struggling. They would rather have me miss a payment here and there and ruin my good credit than to help me out here. I did not have a choice with the mortgages. Both of them were with Pulaski Bank and then Pulaski sold one of the notes to CitiMortgage. The whole thing with helping out people who are underwater in their loans is pure bogus. Due to medical and nursing home bills, I filed for bankruptcy several years ago. It was a "Save the Home" reorganization, so everyone got all their money with interest. Of course, Citi got payments right along. Somehow, during this process and the rest of the sub-prime debacle, they lost track of my payments. It didn't matter how much proof I provided. They refused to stop harassing me with daily phone calls, absurd penalties and fees to have contractors check on my home. This went on even though the bankruptcy court found that I was current when they released me from protection two years ahead of schedule! Our home caught fire in the middle of all this. My son, a recently returned soldier, was dealing with issues and another was being deployed, so we worked with what additional payments we could. There wasn't money for lawyers. The two with whom I spoke told me, “...any bank too big to fail can file briefs until you run out of money.”
While my home was boarded up and with my contractor's 5' X 8' sign in front, and the doors locked with Realtor's boxes, Citi hired a firm to break in to my home "to secure it." They did over $3,000 damage! None of the government programs could help me because I wasn't behind on my payments (yes, they really did say that to me). Congressman Bobby Schilling had to intervene on my behalf. He and our local paper forced them to credit my payments and forgive the penalties. Citi still didn't reimburse me for unwarranted PMI payments. They also claimed that if I had a problem with their contractor, it was not their problem and I would have to take it up with the contractor. Whenever given the opportunity, I tell people to find ways to avoid doing business with Citibank. I almost wasn't able to get my home refinanced, even though my credit score is 780, because I required notation that my contract could not be sold to Citi.

Six months have passed and the loan counselor continues to make outrageous demands for documentation. I have sterling credit and am a partner in a big four accounting firm; my refinance is for approximately 55% of my home's appraised value and my current payments are less than 10% of my monthly income. Our loan counselor has lost documentation, refused to fax employment verification forms to my wife's employer and mine and altered tax return request forms to the IRS which the IRS rightly refused to process. My loan counselor went radio silent for five weeks until I filed a complaint with the CFPB. Then we went back to the ridiculous documentation demands. I have been a Citi customer for 30 years, but now am looking to pay off the mortgage and never deal with them again. I believe these refinance offers are a scam to justify having taken billions from the government in 2008 and 2009. As one can see from these comments and others, Citibank has no interest in following through on its refinance offers.

I began a refi with Citibank on Jan. 11, 2013. My credit rating is over 800 and I only owed $240,000 on a house I built for $850,000. The only reason for the refi was a reduction in interest rate (from 5.25% to 3.125%), and they assured me that there would be no problem. Well, it is now June 16 and I think I'm on the third loan specialist. (I guess they fired the first two or either they quit from disgust from working with such a corrupt employer.) Of course, I'm not stupid nor am I naive, and I fully well understand what is going on here.
In fact, it is so obvious that it is almost laughable. Thankfully, I don't really need the loan and will pay off the balance over the next year, but I feel sorry for those that really need the money and have been intentionally misled. I think that the government needs to be informed of this, at the very least, our congressmen. It sickens me when I think that such a large and financially successful corporation resorts to such unscrupulous practices. Listen up, CITIBANK! You are going to get your just reward!

If you were planning on using them on a new loan or refinance, LOOK ELSEWHERE!! We are in the middle of a truly horrible experience with them and no one should have to go through this. We reached out to their lender because they carry our current mortgage. We called a few other people and Citi offered the best rate. We went ahead. About 2 weeks before the closing, our lender stopped returning phone calls. She stopped answering emails. She stopped sending paperwork. We tried calling everyone we could reach (branch manager, main number, her boss) and never got a clear answer on where everything stood.
Our attorney and the title company had slightly better luck as of yesterday. They got the numbers and the "clear to close" confirmed with the lender. But the paperwork still hadn't arrived. The lender told the title company it would be there. We called our lender this morning to find out where it was (half an hour out from closing) and were told that someone had called yesterday to cancel the loan!!! After repeated phone calls, emails and walking to the branch, we've been given the names of 10 different people who might be able to help. Not a single one can tell us the status of the loan. They also have no record or proof of this mysterious phone call cancelling the loan.
We don't have any details, don't know what's going on with our new house, and still haven't gotten a call back from anyone at Citibank. I know there are a lot of people looking to move on this board. For your own sake, DO NOT USE CITIBANK!!!

My original mortgage was with ABN AMRO, who wisely sold off their U.S. Corporation to CitiMortgage. I obtained my ABN AMRO mortgage in 2004; Citi took over in approximately 2007-2008. I recently (March 2013) applied for the Harp 2 refinance through Citi. It is a program to help those whose mortgages were obtained prior to 2009 and have been on time with payments, are in good standing, have a job, and want to reduce their interest rate. Citi has thus far, as of June 11, 2013, sent me three sets of loan documents that are incorrect. They have the wrong legal description, wrong address, loan amounts, and have errors on the assessors parcel number and errors on the type of home - calling it a condominium rather than a single family residence with parcel that contains 6 homes per acre instead of the 100's of homes per acre for condominiums.
And these people continue to delay the closing, thus costing me more money, not in refinance fees but in interest. My existing loan is at 5.75% and I am refinancing to 3.875%. Undoubtedly, Citi wants the higher interest rate. I've dealt with the Texas offices, Virginia, Lenexa, Kansas, and Philadelphia - all completely incompetent.
They claim to have a "title company" - Service Link - that I believe is just a subsidiary of Citi and does very poor quality work. My legal description has been wrong 3 times. I am on my 4th set of documents. They are so incompetent that they cannot even make a Monday UPS deadline so that I would get my documents this morning for a 12 noon signing. I have to agree with another commenter that Citi is being unfair, unconscionable, and fraudulent in its business practices. CitiMortgage, this large corporation, appears to pick on a lot of little people.

We were not behind on our payments. We saw a note on our statement re: Balloon Note and assumed it was an error. In January, sent payment was accepted. Then we received certified letter saying we were in default, to pay up $30,000 and it would be okay. Yes, sure, it's rural northern Mich. and hubby is a builder... not good. We called and talked to people many times to explain we never signed a balloon note. We paid an Atty. He said we could not fight big corp. lawyers, to pay off or refinance. Call after call and they kept saying, "Too bad, so sad." Then, someone mentioned modification. Okay, we shall try it. What a JOKE. Citi is nothing but a scam to people. Our Feb. payment was sent back to us. No, it looks like they are going to own our home and we will be out. This is a nightmare and Citi is not to be trusted.

Hi, I'd like to have you speak with our Homeowner Assistance Escalation team to review this situation. It's *not* possible that a balloon payment was added to your mortgage after the loan was originated. Who originated the loan, Citi, another bank, or a mortgage broker? Also, we might just be your loan servicer and not the company who actually owns your mortgage. These are all questions we can help to answer. Regarding loan modification, there is eligibility criteria, and that can vary based on who owns your mortgage note. I sent all documents to him within couple days, no response until 2 weeks later, asking for more documents. And I sent in within a day or two, then next 2-3 days asking for more info. And keep going for this pattern for 5-6 rounds, until 1 day before my commitment was going to expire (planned closing date has passed). I called the 1-800 number trying to get to his supervisor twice, but no luck speaking to his supervisor neither. Now it's up in the air if we can close this loan. CitiMortgage not letting closure on daughter's estate - My 38-year-old daughter died two years ago on June 3, 2011. CitiMortgage (CM), having obtained her mortgage from her local bank, has added unbearably to my devastation. My daughter died intestate, never married, no children. She bought her house on her own and her payments were up to date. I am not a co-signer on her note; I have no interest in her property, nor have I paid anything on her mortgage. As her court-appointed personal representative, I have done all things financially possible to settle her estate. I, of course, notified CM of her death and sent them a copy of her death certificate. Offering a quit claim deed or whatever would simplify and expedite to avoid their having to foreclose, I wrote and wrote and called and called while receiving no relevant correspondence or answers from anyone.
CM continued to send a multiplicity of notifications addressed to my daughter about her being in default and offering all different kinds of ways for them to help her with her financial problems. Every piece of mail sent to my daughter was another stab in my heart. My folder of correspondence to them and from them is over one in. thick. Finally, a CM employee said, "Ma'am, if you were my mother, I would tell you to let them foreclose; that is what they want to do." I thanked him.
Finally, in Sept. 2011, I wrote a letter asking if anyone at CM understood the difference between DEFAULT and DECEASED. I told them that I doubt if God cares about her earthly credit rating and enclosed a key to the house. A letter dated Nov. 2, 2011 from Susan C. Little & Associates, P.A. (Little) and addressed to my daughter reported that "Your mortgage loan has been referred to our firm for foreclosure."
On Jan. 31, 2012, a Court notified my son and me that CM and Little want us to agree that we are liable for default judgment. Financially unable to have an attorney handle this for us, then 71 years old, I wrote multiple responses to more notices from Little. Hearing no more from the Court or Little, I thought CM had foreclosed and that the house was on the market. A letter dated Dec. 10, 2012 addressed to my Michigan address when Little has my winter address stated, "Enclosed please find copies of the Motion for Order Reinstating Case and Order Reinstating Case and Request for Hearing. Please let us know if we can note your approval to the Order within five days of the date of this letter." I received this letter on Dec. 26; my son does not know when his arrived mixed with Christmas mail. Well-planned and well-scheduled: they were trying to get us to agree that we are liable for default judgment.
Widely criticized in RipoffReport.com and Complaintsboard.com and Consumeraffairs.com, etc., etc., as being unfair, unconscionable, and fraudulent in its business practices, CitiMortgage, this large corporation, appears to pick on a lot of little people. In my opinion, Susan C. Little & Associates, P.A. is earning big money and representing them extremely well. My folder of mail from Little is now over one inch thick; interestingly, they now have a different address. I wonder if it is a better location. Two years later, my deceased daughter's house is still not on the market. No foreclosure, and heartbroken I am with no closure...

Hi Beverly, I'm very sorry to learn of your daughter's passing, my sincere condolences. I'd like to help you get better answers and closure. I called CitiMortgage to ask if my current interest rate could be reduced in order to reduce my payment. I was told that it could be reduced by 2.25% which would save me $565 a month if I refinanced. I informed Nathan, my loan app rep, that we have a foreclosure on our credit report. Nathan informed me that it would not affect our qualifying for a refinance as long as it has been over 4 years. It has been 6 years and 3 months. Nathan needed consent to proceed with charging my credit card $545 for the application fee and appraisal. I consented since he had reassured me that there would be no problem. The appraiser came to my home and 30 minutes after she left, I received a call from CitiMortgage informing me that my application was declined because it has not been 7 years since the foreclosure! I understand the rule of 7 years, but I feel that I was misled by the rep. He should not provide misleading information. This is in follow-up to my May 17th complaint. Sat mail delivery came and went... no check from CitiMortgage. I called BoA’s Bill Pay department. I got an amazing Customer Service representative that took ownership of my situation as if it were her own money. She called CitiMortgage and found out that they haven't even cut the check (Lie #5 - as they said it had already been mailed), that they have it scheduled for May 21st and cannot guarantee that it would be overnighted and that I should receive it by June 5th. Amy, BoA CS rep, stood ground for me and stated that this runaround is unacceptable.
Through an hour and 15 minute call, Amy was able to get them to commit to sending the money and that she sent support documents and documented "their promises”. Understanding that a June 5th receipt of my refund was unacceptable, she took it to the next level within BoA. She even was able to secure me a temporary insertion of funds from BoA into my account until the money is received from Citi. That was over and above support from BoA for a "RUNAROUND" from Citi. They will monitor my account, and when that money is received, they will take their money back... which is more than I could have asked for from BoA.
Hats off to BoA and especially to Amy who took control and fought on my behalf... The Big Boys (Citi) could have kept this series of lies and delays going, but when another "Big Boy" (BoA) stood on my behalf... change happened. As soon as possible I am taking my loan out of Citi and into BoA.

I have had a loan with CitiMortgage for almost 9 years and have excellent payment history. Due to BoA online system not showing payments out for extraction (only processing and paid), I thought I had missed the payment so I sent an additional $3K (mortgage + $800 to pay down principal). I noticed it first and called and told the customer service person. It was elevated to their manager and the refund would go out same day, and should be received 3-5 business days. The next day they said that because it was for $3K, I need to send a bank statement which had not even been mentioned prior. The CS told me that it already was out for payment (lie #1). I was told that if it's less than $3K, they could do it through CS.
So second call to CS (now day 2 waiting for my money). I spoke to CS rep #2. She understood my frustration and told me that the check for all, but overpayment to principal, could be next day aired for Friday (today) delivery (lie #2). At 2:00 today, I realized there was no next day air coming. I called yet again for the third time. No, my check did not go out yesterday and I was not going to get my money today. She basically told me the same lie I received yesterday and that she requested next day (Saturday) delivery. I am changing my loan as soon as possible. Three days, three different false promises. Hopefully, the check will come tomorrow. If I were late to them, these deceptive statements would not fly. The big always disregard the fair requests of the small.

I was confused because the property was purchased long before I was married, and my wife had no interest, deed, loan, etc. All of the papers on the closing package had her listed as Borrower. The flags went up. I talked to Lana who assured me that my wife should just sign and was in no way on my loan. She was listed as Borrower!
We refused to sign and requested a copy of all the loan documents for the closing. The title company sent over the file, and my wife's name was removed from all the documents. So, be careful. They were just trying to add my wife as a responsible party to my loan. Also, I received an email from Lana, stating that if my wife refused to sign the documents, they would pull my refinance. I currently have a mortgage with CitiMortgage. I received a letter from them offering to refinance the loan at a lower rate and payment. I called them and was asked dozens of questions. I was offered a rate and payment that was acceptable. I was told I would get a Good Faith Estimate and application package. I asked that it be sent to a different address because I was out of town for some time. The fact that they couldn't do that right should have warned me off. I was told I would have to pay $480 for an appraisal and to lock in the rate I was quoted. At no time did the Citi rep (Angela) ask me to describe the property and since they owned the loan, I was sure they knew it was a manufactured home.
After submitting everything they needed, suddenly everything started to slow down. The loan processor was changed and the new one never contacted me. Finally, Angela told me via e-mail that Citi does not make loans on or refinances manufactured homes. I still haven't seen that condition listed on any Citi document or webpage. I am going to try to get my money returned but reading the complaints, I'm going to contact the Banking Commission and look into filing a small claim against them. Last November of 2012 on the 10th, I began the process of obtaining a HARP loan. My husband is in construction and the past few years have been difficult. I spoke to the loan rep (Angela), discussed the facts of the problem including the fact that we had a problem of back property taxes that Citi had (without our consent) paid the county (Clark) and set up in an enforced impound account, which they wanted paid for in a 12-month period, raising our payment from $1,000 per month to $1,600. Angela had originally indicated that the taxes would become part of the new loan and going forward, we would have an impound account and a payment of $900.00 at 3.5.
The processor took over at this point and created at least 3 delays amounting to at least 1 month due to bad communication on her end. Our payments were made each month. In January, they claimed we had a late payment, which we did not. It took 2 weeks to clear that up. Citi issued an apology letter to us. Then back to underwriting and the appraisal. The loan, the first of this week, was approved by underwriting and then withdrawn the same day because they said that the late taxes were not allowed under the guidelines of HARP. Citi should not be able to access the HARP. They should be completely eliminated. I hope that a responsible individual from HARP or Citi (if there is one) sees this whole process was water torture. They should use Citi at Gitmo.

No one could answer the simple question about temporary or permanent modification. Anyone out there who is trying to get a loan modification from Citi, please stop and check. They are just after the money and it will mess you up for as long as you have a loan with them. Thanks.

Hi, most standard "loan modifications" could have a negative impact on your credit report, regardless of the mortgage company. This has absolutely nothing to do with CitiMortgage, it's how credit bureaus report a loan that has been "modified". Of course, in turn, this could have an impact on refinancing in the short term. Loan Modifications are for homeowners who are either already past due or at imminent risk of defaulting, so the credit impact is a risk many are willing to take to be afforded an opportunity with a manageable mortgage payment and being able to stay in their home.

After reading all these complaints, I am glad I'm not alone! Go back to 3/11, which was when I realized that my 5.87% was a lot higher than they were offering others. I have not been late with a mortgage payment for close to 12 years (Citi the last 6), and thought they would reward good customers. Nope, I just retired and my income was going to be about 20% less, so I agreed as they said to be late for 3 months and they could start the modification procedures. What a joke!
Just like everyone else here, they kept asking for info they already received several times via fax and mail. Then I was assigned a new case manager. What a dummy, Ms. ** was her name. She never told me the new paperwork was needed as she said it was mailed to me. I asked, "Was it sent to the property address or mailing address?" She replied, "Why would we send it to the mailing address?" That's where I get my mail (I moved to Florida, the property was in CT).
Forward now to 5/12, after my credit was getting beat up (it was over 800), they started foreclosure (with me incurring costs with my HOA) when I finally got approved for modification. I made the first 3 good faith test payments and the modification got done in 8/12. They sent me the papers to sign and notarize. I did that without fail, even though payments were more and they only gave me 5%. Well, I knew something was wrong so I called them. (which was always an endeavor, no one calls you back or emails you; I was told that it's company "policy" not to email customers back even though they put an email on all paperwork!) So I got hold of someone else, and they realized that they made a mistake and would be sending new paperwork out. I got those all notarized and mailed back out and finally it's good, right? Wrong!
Fast forward to 1/13 and I got a notice in the mail that I owe $17,000 and the house will be going back into foreclosure proceedings! I called them, asked for an explanation and they realized that they made a mistake and never "booked" the new mortgage! At this point, I'm still sending them payments (more than I was supposed to) as I didn't want credit to be totally ruined. So now I'm waiting on my 1099 statement of the interest I paid as I have to get my taxes done. This wasn't sent by Feb. 1st (isn't that the law?). They informed me that because it was never booked, they just never bothered to send me one.
At this point, I got a "supervisor, Carolyn. There was nothing but lies and she said things were mailed (again to wrong address even after I specifically said to the mailing address; she assured me it had and it wasn't!). So now, I asked to speak to her boss and I now got Steve. He seemed helpful and sent me new paperwork (finally right at 3.5%) which I promptly returned and he took next payment in 3/13 over the phone. Two weeks later, I looked and it said that I was still behind! I called him and he told me that it still wasn't booked yet! How long could it take?
Now this whole time, I was asking for my 1099 form which he said he would give me the number for their Tax dept. I called and they just sent me back to CS and the next guy said that they have no Tax dept! I got Steve back on phone and he told me that he talked to them and it would be mailed next week. Well, when it didn't come in the next week, I sent him an email and he responded that they weren't going to send it out until it is booked which he says will be done tomorrow! This is another lie from Citi! So I'm still waiting on both mortgage to be booked and forms to be sent.
I have never dealt with such clowns at a company before like this! I would love to be part of any class action lawsuit as they really hurt my credit and purposely try to get customers to lose their homes. Does anyone know the email address of anyone at the top of the food chain at Citi to make a formal complaint? I kept all paperwork and email in relation to this case. I will be looking for a new mortgage with another company soon as they book it. Feel free to email me any questions.

Hi, I'm very sorry for the late response here, I know you've been through a lot. I can take your formal complaint by email and then initiate an internal investigation. Please email me at the addres below and include a copy of your post and your address/best phone#. Also, please mentin you came from the Consumer Affairs website.

I have been working on getting my loan modified with CitiMortgage in CA for the last 2 years. After 10 years of mortgage payments, I owe $375,000 on a house that is worth $320,000. I finally entered a payment trial period with a reduced interest rate of 2% for the next 5 years, which I completed last October. At that time, my lawyer submitted a motion to authorize the loan modification with a CA bankruptcy court because I had filed Chapter 13 bankruptcy 4 years ago. This was then signed by the judge and approved per the new loan modification which both CitiMortgage and myself entered into in January 1, 2013. Under such modification, my loan terms were being extended to 37 years, and it will now mature at in 2051 with a fix intereste rate of 3.375% on the 7th year.
Yesterday, I received a phone call from CitiMortgage stating that the investor is not agreeing to such terms (which CitiMortgage and myself had entered when we first began the trial payment period back in August of 2012). The term of the loan will now terminate in 2034 and that at that time, I will have to make a balloon payment of $213,499.
CitiMortgage is breaching the legal agreement that we had entered when I initiated the trial payment period. Furthermore, this was also submitted per CitiMortgage’s request to the Chapter 13 judge which she approved. I intend to contact my congress person on such a matter, in addition to pass this information to the bankruptcy judge that signed off on this agreement. Please feel free to let me know if you see any other means to address this issue.

Citibank holds my home equity line of credit. FAA Employees Credit Union holds my mortgage. My insurance company issued a check for repairs to my home very quickly after the storm. FAA ECU and Citibank were listed as payees along with myself. When I called FAA ECU, they said deposit the check and do the repairs. Citibank delayed depositing the check for 4 weeks while they had me jump through hoops. Repairs are now complete and my insurance company issued a check for the remainder of the funds that they hold back until repairs are done. Again, FAA ECU said go cash it. Citibank has been once again demanding copies of all receipts, letters of intent and my first born.
After sending back all the documents requested by FedEx overnight (on 2/23/13), I called to ask if I could cash the check yet. It's now 3/6/13. The representative from CitiMortgage claims said she didn't have the receipts and if I sent them again, I could cash the check. I went to my local branch and had them send the fax. After 4 faxes, I was told they still needed the documents from FedEx and I couldn't cash the check until further review! This is harassment - pure and simple. I have contacted my congressman and they agree. This money can only be released from the insurance company if all repairs are done. Citi sent an adjuster to my home to verify the repairs were done. Even my insurance company didn't do that. Still, they won't release the funds. I'm currently looking for a new bank!

This lousy company paid the taxes anyway and lied to me when I called in to correct it. I spoke to three people; two of them laughed at me and one called me a **. I will never do business with this company again.

So many of us have the same story. Long story short, we were hit by a drunk driver, who did not have insurance. I'm now disabled, my husband was off work for over a year, countless attempts of "programs" they had to offer that failed and Citi losing paperwork that I continuously have faxed over. 2 years later, we are back on track financially, with $33k in the hole with them because they refuse to take payments from us and refuse to rework our loan. I contacted HUD, change.org, our congressman, but more importantly I prayed. We just received a letter in the mail today, which basically said, "We made a mistake, let us fix it." I am not really sure if I trust them or not at this point. Our home was to be sold at a sheriff auction on 2/21/13. Citi agreed to postpone it for 30 days if we did a short sale and have a potential buyer. We just want to keep our home!

After falling behind on our mortgage, my husband called CitiMortgage to inquire about options for payment arrangements. We were 2 months behind and were told by the representative via phone that we should let another month lapse and then apply for a loan modification. We did as we were told and sent in paperwork religiously and in a timely manner. They dragged it out for almost a year and then refused to approve the modification unless all household income was disclosed (I am retired/disabled but not on the mortgage, deed or title). Since I was not on the mortgage, we refused to disclose this private info and were turned down for the modification.
CitiMortgage then proceeded with legal action. We moved from the property and cleaned it thoroughly. We called Citi on January 30, 2013, to let them know that the property would be officially vacant on 2/1/13. My husband and I were both inside the home on that date and inspected it and left it in very good condition. CitiMortgage had Safeguard Property Management enter the premises on January 31 and change the locks and damage the property (water damage from their winterization) and contacted our insurance company about the "said damage". Luckily, the insurance investigators are wise to Safeguard’s antics. We will be fighting this tooth and nail with the assistance and blessing of the insurance company.
CitiMortgage allowed their property management associates to enter our property prior to the date we allowed them to, change the locks (luckily, we got our stuff out), and then damage the property and try to scam the insurance company. We were lucky because we documented everything with pictures, etc. We also have a police report from an earlier date when a neighbor found our side door ajar (it was locked but seemed to have been picked - we lived in a very low crime neighborhood), with a possible unauthorized entry. Watch yourselves with CitiMortgage and Safeguard! They are both thieves and liars!

Monica of Bell Canyon, you basically wrote my review for me. I swear I have had the exact same experience with Citi. I started my loan process in October 2012. I got in all the necessary paperwork within 2 days. I received an email that I was pre-approved. They told me due to the current low interest rates, they are very backed up and it will take up to 90 days to complete the loan. In January, at the 90-day mark, I sent an email to the woman I was working with (Jennifer). She said people were on vacation for the holidays, they were short-staffed and that it was still in line waiting on the underwriter. 2 weeks later, I inquired again - same answer. So then I began calling Citi customer service. They informed me that my DTI was too tight and that the loan will be declined. They advised me to add a co-borrower.
I then sent a email to (Jennifer). She said that I embellished my income and that her system showed an amount that was approximately $1,000.00 less of income a month and that it was verified (by who?). The number she had in her system was incorrect as I was looking at my 2012 W2 and knew for a fact that they had it wrong. I sent more than a dozen emails asking her to correct it, telling her it was wrong but she ignored my requests. I was then told someone in another state was processing my loan. I had to resubmit all of my paperwork to that processor, who then told me it is back in line with underwriting and that they have now extended my rate until the second week in March, so not to worry. If it goes beyond March, they will extend it again at no cost to me.
March? April? We're going into 5 months. Today I contacted the second loan processor's supervisor in NV. She assured me that it will be reviewed by the end of the week. No idea if it's just more BS or what.

I have been trying to refinance my home mortgage since June of 2012. They keep asking for ridiculous items that have to do with my business and not my personal finances. My local banks are telling me that it doesn't have any bearing on the information that they are asking about. I know this since I've been in real estate for almost twenty years and have never run into such nonsense. They take your money upfront for "appraisals" and drag it out for 8 months. Now they say that if I don't supply information to take off my file for my business, they can't give me the loan.

I had a terrible experience with CitiMortgage. I started refinancing with Citi in October 2012 with a good interest rate, and I gave them all the paperwork they needed within 2 days of their GFE. They pre-approved us and ordered an appraisal which cost me $850. The appraisal came through and there was a long pause for almost 3 months. In the meantime, I keep asking about the status of our loan. A few times, they answered saying it is almost done. The person I started the loan application with is Melissa ** and loan officer **. They are the worst people in the world. They never answered my emails or answered my phone calls.
In mid January 2013, they told me that my DTI is higher, and we have to show more income. Since 2012, I worked more and had increased my pay. I asked my employer to give me my W2 early so I can show them. As I mentioned, they pre-approved us stating that they need a 38% DTI. Now, they switched it to 31% DTI. I gave them all our current W2 stating the higher income, and now, our DTI were good to go. There was no problem. When I called Citibank, there was one agent who told us that our loan has been approved and it is now ready to close. ** is preparing our closing papers. After one week, Melissa called us and told the underwriter that they want our 2012 tax return. What? I told them we haven't filed our tax return since we don't have all the statements from our mortgage company, bank, etc. How come we can file?
In the meantime, they kept asking a lot of documents. I am a very organized person and I kept sending the documents within an hour of their asking. They were taking their sweet time and purposely delaying our loan by not replying to us. Our rate was supposed to expire on February 4, 2013. Luckily, I have filed my tax returns on January 25 and told them about it. Now that they know they have no argument, they came up with a new thing stating that we have to pay $200 each day until the loan is closed. What? Now, they want to extract money from us. ** refuses to forward our tax documents until we sign the consent to pay $200 everyday.
That was too much because it took them 4 months just to reach a point where they are still waiting to approve us by the underwriter. It was not a matter of 1-2 days. It could take another month since the underwriter still needs to review our tax returns, and if she approves us, then that’s a lot of days for closing. By this time, I had enough of their demands and their most incompetent service. Now, I want the money back which I paid for the appraisal ($850). Sure enough, nobody answers my calls. Their main number is saying, “We can email our supervisor who will call you.” Sure enough, we haven't heard from them. I wasted 4 months with them. Now, the interest rates are high. We wasted our time and money with Citi. I hate them and those 2 persons. I really wish bad for them. Don’t, don’t, don’t go with CitiMortgage.

I think I must be related to these many people who are complaining about CitiMortgage. We were solicited by them and we began the process on the first week of October 2012. They said then that, due to the volume of business, it might take the full 90 days to complete the loan. Just as others have stated, they continue to write notes to us periodically, saying that our loan rate guarantee has been extended. Once they even gave us a higher rate, and when I questioned them, they said it was a typographical error.
Today is February 1, and we are apparently no closer to signing the contract. I had told them that my patience was at an end and that I wanted the contract here to sign by the end of January. It didn't happen. So I called another company that I had considered when I chose to stay with Citi, and they approved me in one day. They will have the paperwork here tomorrow, and they assured me that they will close in 15 business days. It is the exact term, rate, and type as Citi had offered. I hope someone puts a stop to this unfair treatment of people. We have been obliged to continue to make payments $170 per month, higher than their quote, because they would not get the paperwork done.

I will agree with many of the above complaints. I have experienced the same situation. In August 2012, I received a letter stating I was preapproved to refinance my loan. I think it meant I was preapproved to join their game. We began the process in August 2012 and it is now January 2013 and, every couple of weeks, they come up with a new document or something needing to be re-signed because it expired - including the appraisal. We go weeks without hearing from them. Can someone tell me how they don't know they need verification of employment when the process starts? Does it really take 6 months to realize that? It has been 6 months of games - we will go to our local bank tomorrow to do this since they have told us 45 days or less! However, since CitiMortgage has dropped our score by pulling credit reports - it may be tough. One example of their competency is they asked me about Citibank pulling my credit at one point and if I opened another line of credit? They are Citibank - they pulled it for this loan! These are real bright people working there! Run from them!

Currently, I have a 15-year fixed VA mortgage with CitiMortgage, which was refinanced in 2004 at 4.875%. Three weeks ago, I attempted to talk with CitiMortgage about lowering my interest rate with a new streamline VA refinance for a new 15-year term. I am a 100% service connected veteran and do not have to pay a VA funding fee, which should lower closing costs/fees. I had also talked to three other VA refinance companies and had GFEs with interest rates between 2.5% to 2.75% for a 15-year fixed VA and closing cost under $2,000 before I called CitiMortgage. I also had a 10-year fixed conventional GFE at 2.375% with about $3,000 in closing costs/fees. So I called CitiMortgage hoping they would match or come real close to the VA and/or conventional interest rate/s and closing costs I already had GFEs for.
I was told the by CitiMortgage the best they could do was 3.1% on 10 or 15 year refinance and the closing cost would be $3,000 plus. My credit score is around 800, never been late on payments, no bankruptcy, no equity taken out and great home equity. I was shocked at what they stated and how they are unwilling to work with an existing customer. CitiMortgage is one of the most uncaring and greedy companies I ever encountered and cannot believe our government lets them get away with this. What is wrong with the refinance business when our government allows these companies to continually take advantage of its customers? It should be a very streamline and simple process to lower your interest rate on an existing loan when there is good to great credit involved.
It appears to me the only thing CitiMortgage and banks like them need to do is make sure there are no liens or judgments against the property, charge a small processing fee and lower the rate with a new loan term. The cost for such a refinance should be a $1,000 or less but in turn, our government allows too many to have their fingers in the consumers pocket and run costs and fees 2 to 4 times higher than they should be. It appears our government is not about “We The People”, but is about greed and corrupt companies first. It makes me wonder why I ever served in the military. I thought it was about protecting our rights and freedoms but now I know that isn't the case. It is a very sad day in the USA to see the continual wrong that our government just turns a blind eye to.

There was property damage to my home and I filed a claim with my insurance company. The insurance company made the check payable to CitiMortgage and me. CitiMortgage received the final inspection indicating that the work was 98% complete over 2 weeks ago. They refused to sign off on the check which was made payable to CitiMortgage and me. They had me to sign the check and return it to them. They said they received the check on 1/15/2013. They, in turn, deposited the check in their account and said they had to wait for the check to clear.
At their request, I submitted the proper documentation showing that one contractor was due about 75% of the funds and I was due the remainder because I had paid 2 of the contractors from my personal funds. Instead, they issued one check to the contractor with the balance for the entire amount which included my funds. It took 2 weeks for CitiMortgage to issue the incorrect check. When I called and complained, they told me they would put a stop payment on the incorrect check and it would take about 5-7 business days for the funds to be redeposited and the correct checks issued. This process has taken over 2 weeks because they felt they had to control my claims process. This has not been resolved.
I understand they have an interest but once they were informed that the work had been completed, they should have allowed the insurance company to issue the remaining funds to me and the contractor based on the final invoices and my signed client completion certification. Because I advanced my funds and have no income coming in, this is causing me unnecessary hardship and stress.

Citi was working on a loan modification for over a year for us. They wanted us to keep making our monthly payments, which is why we wanted a loan modification, because we were having some financial problems. We have had Citi for about 8 years. I was never late on my payments. They wanted a bunch of paperwork and we sent in everything they wanted. Then we kept getting letters saying they need more copies again. I have faxed or mailed in copies about 12 times over and over. I even have copies of the faxes I sent in, with the dates and times. Well, then they would always assign a new person and they would send a letter saying that they needed copies. Okay, I thought here we go again.
Well, we finally told them we have sent everything about 12 times and was not sending anymore. They still kept sending letters. Needless to say, we got nowhere. They ended up foreclosing on us. I guess they wanted our house more than we did. I had kids living at home at this time which is very hard to tell your kids that we have to move. My husband lost his job and had to move to another state which is why we're asking for a modification in the first place to try to keep our house until we could sell it. But Citi would not work with us at all. I will never use Citi again and have told everyone about them.

This is to advise you of the unfortunate experience that I had with CitiMortgage. I have been a customer of CitiMortgage since 10/21/2001. In 2009, I submitted a hardship assistance package to my mortgage company due to unfortunate and untimely loss of employment. I explained to CitiMortgage at the time that my grandmother purchased the house for our family and we had lived in our home from the date of purchase. I also informed them that because of my grandmother's passing in 2002, the house was willed to me. After the will was probated, the house was turned over to me in 2004. Knowing the house was in my grandmother’s name, I called first to find out if we could apply for the modification. During the conversation with CitiMortgage, they advised me to put the details of our situation in the hardship letter and that would be fine to go ahead and submit a hardship. CitiMortgage was also informed of my grandmother’s death prior to the modification. CitiMortgage received all legal paperwork stating that I was the legal owner in accordance with North Carolina law from my grandmother’s lawyers.
However, after submitting all required paperwork and following everything they asked us to do, which included signing necessary paperwork in my name, tax forms, and trial payments which exceeded the three trial payments, we were finally approved for the modification and then quickly denied because we were not the original account holders. After learning that we were denied the modification, I contacted the North Carolina Commissioner of Banks and submitted a complaint to find out if this was legal. NC Commissioner of Banks put CitiMortgage under investigation and wanted an explanation on the matter. CitiMortgage responded by saying the denial was due to me being unemployed and put me on a forbearance plan for six months until I was able to obtain a job. At that time, they would approve me for a modification. I was able to get a job with Charlotte Mecklenburg School and proceeded to contact CitiMortgage. After multiple attempts, they would not take my calls because I was not the account holder. This truly disturbed me because prior to the forbearance plan, I have been able to be in direct communication with CitiMortgage since the beginning of our loan.
Unfortunately, I had to contact the NC Commissioner of Bank and submit a second complaint because CitiMortgage refused to talk to me. I had made numerous attempts to contact CitiMortgage to discuss our situation but could not speak to anyone directly on this matter. CitiMortgage responded a second time with an apology for lying to the NC Commissioner of Banks in which they said they advised me the reason for denial was due to unemployment; the correction is they told NC Commissioner of Banks that reason in their first letter dated a year prior. They informed us after approving and then denying the modification that the reason for non-approval was because we were not the original account holders.
They never told us it was because of unemployment. The first we learned of it was after the complaint. They also informed the NC Commissioner of Banks that the account holder of the loan’s (Ms. **) credit was verified as part of our approval process procedures. I received a letter from HAMP stating the non-approval for our request for a mortgage modification was due to credit of Ms. **. Lastly, in the letter address to the NC Commissioner of Banks from CitiMortgage, they stated occupancy is one item that is reviewed. I informed them in the first few sentences of the hardship package and in several other forms that my grandmother never resided at ** Charlotte, NC 28215.
After the complaint, I was able to speak directly to Margaret **. Ms. ** had me submit pay stubs, bank statements and a workable solutions application to once again be put through the process. I was informed that the modification was declined because the loan is an estate and they are unable to do any sort of modification. During our conversation and knowing the history of CitiMortgage, I requested an email from Ms. ** of our last conversation in the options she proposed to me. In the email she stated, if I wish to retain the property, we can work on a repayment plan to bring the loan current. The other option is a short sale. In the letter from CitiMortgage to the NC Commissioner of Banks, they stated Ms. ** offered to be reviewed for a repayment plan or a forbearance plan, but Ms. ** declined. I certainly did not decline the offer; I was never offered a forbearance plan.
During the last year after receiving a letter stating that our loan had been referred to a legal firm to begin foreclosure proceedings in December 2011, I have been emotionally damaged and continually stressed. Shortly after receiving the letter of foreclosure, I developed ganglion cyst and could no longer work. I once again am not able to speak to anyone at CitiMortgage. One of their representatives informed me that it specifically said not to speak with me. CitiMortgage calls my phone on a continual basis, sometimes more than once a day. It’s very hard to answer the call knowing they will not speak to me. I was informed that it’s on a computer system and that’s the reason for the calls but CitiMortgage will not discuss the loan with me. Since then, we moved out of our home into a rental house where my children who loved their home and neighborhood are extremely unhappy. We had to adopt out our two dogs which was extremely hard on us being that they were a part of our family. I recently received a letter of a court date that I accidentally mistaken for a different date and missed my court appearance. I really feel being there would have done nothing for my case due to all that has occurred with this modification.
On October 14, 2012, I wrote a letter to the legal department of CitiMortgage informing them on how displeased I was on how they handled our modification and requested a response. On November 16, 2012, I received a letter from the Homeowner Support Specialist Aisha ** informing us that she would be our primary contact during this process. On November 20, 2012, CitiMortgage completed a thorough review of the account; and based on the review, there will be no change to their previous communicated decision. On December 19, 2012 at 3:45 pm, I received a phone call from CitiMortgage, but unfortunately, they could not speak to me because they had no letter of authorization on file. During the first conversation, I was told that I would receive a phone call from Ms. ** because she wanted to speak with me.
At 5:28pm, I received a phone call from Ms. ** but again because they had no letter of authorization on file, she stated that she could not speak with me in reference to the account. I mentioned to Ms. ** that I have had direct communication with CitiMortgage from the beginning of the loan and had paperwork with my name on it, and unfortunately until recently, I was unable to talk to anyone at CitiMortgage. During the conversation which lasted ten minutes and thirty eight seconds, she advised me that she would contact my grandmother’s lawyers to retrieve the letter of authorization and would contact me at a later date.
I am utterly dissatisfied and disappointed with how this modification was handled. This has put a tremendous stress on my family. I have submitted this complaint to the NC Department of Justice and have not to date received anything on this matter. I have also sent our complaint to OCC and FTC, and I will be sending our complaint to the United States Department of Justice. I hope I can speak to someone in regards to my issues with CitiMortgage. I have document showing all of the discrepancies and lies from CitiMortgage and will provide any document upon request. I would like to know if we are victims of predatory lending or of consumer fraud, because in short, we were lied to and/or deceived. Thank you.

One year ago, I called CitiMortgage to make arrangements to catch up my loan payments. At that time, there was an option on their website to add extra money they would hold until a full payment was banked which would then be applied to the arrears. Once Citi issued their letter stating they were there to help us in February 2012, that option disappeared and you had to go through a homeowner's specialist. In June, I submitted the necessary paperwork to apply for modification. In July, I submitted the same paperwork. In August, my case was closed due to not receiving the paperwork. My homeowner's specialist reopened the case but I had to redo the original paperwork again since we were now starting over.
In September, they sent my file to foreclosure so now I have attorney fees on top of late payments. Two weeks ago, the support specialist escalated my file to her supervisor again and lo and behold, I get a letter thanking me for inquiring about a modification and this is the paperwork we would need to get started. I called again to complain to which a supervisor escalated my file to the executive team who overnight decided I could have a repayment plan if I gave them $3800. The rep acted surprised when I explained that was too much money and could not explain why they couldn't do this last year.
So now I have to start the modification process for a third time and no one at CitiMortgage can understand why I am so angry. I believe they delayed the repayment plan so they could get more money. I also am told they get government subsidies for "helping us." We need to find a good lawyer and start a class action suit.

On November 30th, l received a call from Citi (90 minutes before the closing) telling me I need $2,200. So I asked the Citi rep what the charges are for and told her this supposed no money at closing. She told me she cannot give me a summary of the charges and they will need to reschedule the closing. For the next three weeks, I emailed and called every day and nobody can give me a straight answer on the status of my loan. Then when they finally got back to me, they told me the loan got sent back to underwriting and it does not look good.

I applied this year for a mortgage modification. We were denied because we weren't in "imminent danger of default." Without any notice, we were enrolled in their escrow program! I paid my property taxes as usual only to find out they also had done this and my mortgage was due to double in January 13. I had to pay them the amount they had scheduled to pay to our local tax office even though it hadn't been received yet to cancel the amount "Owed" and (I hope) end this escrow account. Now I await a refund for the same amount and confirmation that we no longer have an unwanted and unasked for escrow account. This is very scary stuff. After reading all of these posts, I am thinking we consumers should get together and consider a class action lawsuit.

They solicited me, saying it would be easy to lower my rate. Oh, but I am not underwater, and I have excellent credit, and Citibank is my current mortgage holder. I paid for my appraisal in June, got it on July 10th, meet the LTV criteria and am still being jerked around. For months, they say "we need ..." I sent it weeks (or months) ago! Somehow the whole loan process got cancelled in October without my knowledge. Then, it got reinstated but now they say I have to pay for a new appraisal. I called the appraiser and they reissued an update on November 10th. Plus, they are charging me higher rates and higher points than they are advertising, which I think is classic bait & switch.
You can't talk to anyone who can actually take care of anything, just poor brutalized CS people who try their best but don't have any power. You ask for it to be escalated to a supervisor and no one ever contacts you. Now, I'm into month 6. Go to a local mortgage broker if you want to lower your rate. Citi can't even get copies of documents they already have in your mortgage files. They won't answer your questions and you'll end up faxing the same stuff over and over and over and ... you get the picture.

I got a call from my bank in New Jersey to question whether I would be interested in refinancing my home at a lower rate. Of course, I said yes. This was the last of April. The first of May, I received a package for the refinancing; I completed and returned the documents. Later that month I got a call from Missouri, saying that they were processing the application. In June, I got an email requesting more information on commercial housing for my businesses. This went back and forth for 2 months and in August, I got a call saying that someone dropped the ball and I needed to reapply for my refinancing. I completed and returned the same documents for a second time. I went through the same storyline again for the second time.
After a month of no communication, we called and learned that the file person was promoted and the file was transferred to Michigan. Now, it’s October and we were told we were ready for closing and it would happen in a week or two. I questioned, “Should I pay the mortgage for this month as I have done for seven years without being late since we are closing?” I was told to hold for a week or two. A month later, we called to find when the closing would be and was told they had no answer.
Now, we go back to the commercial property storyline again and I answered the same questions for the third time. At this point I have spoken to over a dozen supervisors, etc. On the last day of November, I questioned the holding of my mortgage out for 2 months and called to see the new status. I received a call later that evening to say we did not qualify because we had not kept our mortgage current. What a scam. I was advised by the company and then denied for following directions. For seven long months, Citimortgage put us through hell and then said, "I'm sorry."

I have been trying for 2-1/2 years to sell my home as a Short Sale. I have lost at least 6 contracts due to Citi not responding. In May 2012, I received a full price offer on my home. The prospective buyer asked to have an answer by 7/31/12. I have sent the same information to Citi at least 5 or 6 times. Do they lose the information? I am represented by an attorney and they act like I have no representation. They have done at least 5 BPOs. They have asked for my bank statements over and over. They have asked for my SS and Pension award letters. I've explained over and over that I get a statement at the beginning of the year as to what my benefit will be and it is direct deposited into my checking account. They have every statement from January 2012, showing the information they're asking for over and over.
It's now 11/27/12 and yesterday, I received a letter UPS from Citi requesting information that was sent to them 3 weeks ago. The prospective buyer's agent asked my attorney to ask Citi for an approximate closing date as he is applying for a mortgage. So far they haven't approved a Short Sale, at least in writing. I have been going through this since February 2011. I have called my Congressman and he said he'd get involved on my behalf. I'm not asking for anything but fair treatment from Citi. This buyer has been more than patient, but I'm afraid that he'll walk away due to Citi's negligence. Short Sale? Not when it takes 8 months! Do I have any recourse at all?

In 2009, I got the runaround with CitiMortgage with what must have been 15 different people asking the same drek over, and over, and over, and over again. I wanted a remod for $460k. I ended up losing my home of 24 years to a short-sale status. Yes, I didn't have to pay for the difference in value versus loan amount, but who is going to compensate me on my anguish, loss of sleep, worry, countless arguments, and sadness that has hit me to the core of my existence? Citi ended up selling the loan to an offshore loan broker on the closing day of escrow. They could have redone my loan and been money ahead, allowed me the ability to save my home, but they opted to make my life miserable.

It's strange to read so many of these horrific accounts and see a very distinct pattern in our experiences. I too had an "excellent" credit score and payment history with CitiMortgage, but I was also hanging by my fingernails to make the bi-weekly payments after my income was cut in half. In July of 2012, I began the wretched journey to get a loan modification through CitiMortgage. I too sent and resent (and then sent again) the required documentation to move the process along and always in a very timely manner, trusting that my case was being promptly handled by professionals - people trying to "work with me" to help. Eventually I got the "Congratulations, you've been approved!" kit and paperwork. I was relieved. I'll admit I wasn't too thrilled that I would only see about $300 in relief. But after 3 months I figured "something" was better than nothing and I signed off and returned the paperwork in an overnight package.
Then a month later, they came back and asked not once, but twice for additional documentation of information I had sent back in August. Huh? This, after the loan modification was approved? Really? I felt like they were just trying to wear me down by being incompetent and disorganized. But after reading all of these complaints, it's starting to feel far more calculated and sinister in nature. There has got to be some sort of class action lawsuit we can all be a part of to end this crap. All of these stories - with so many similarities - smack of illegal practices and underhanded "stalling" techniques in order to break people when they are at their most vulnerable. I sit here after nearly 5 months of game playing, no further along in getting help than I was back in July. I am frustrated, angry and losing hope.

Two weeks into the process, the guy (Travis **) called and wanted to increase the rate by 1/8 of a point! He said, "This is the rate, take it or leave it." I could not believe they did this to me. They will not have another loan from me for sure. Good faith estimate has no meaning for CitiMortgage.

I am an active duty service member. In 2005, I purchased my first home using an 80/20 loan (my first mistake). Then less than a year later, my loans were sold to CitiMortgage. My loan terms did not change, with one exception. My 20% loan was converted to a 15-year loan, and a balloon payment is now due. In 2008, I separated and eventually divorced, and also received orders out of state. I did not want to, nor could, sell the home and lose money on it, so I opted to rent. As a result, I no longer live in the home. However, I was able to rent it, and to this day, I have never missed a mortgage payment. In fact, I increased the payments on my 2nd mortgage.
In June, I wanted to see about refinancing. Because I was not living in the home, hardly anyone would refinance it for me, even though I didn't have a choice not to live in it (again, active duty service, but no one seems to really care about that). Anyway, long story short, even CitiMortgage said they wouldn't, until I brought up the HARP Program. From here it seemed things could turn around, until the paperwork process started. It has been nothing but hell and a financial hell inquisition since. I want to stress that at no time have I missed a payment; in fact, I increased them and even doubled my income while eliminating over $20,000 in debt. However, CitiMortgage continues to act as if I’m going to screw them over, asking for information and proof of things they could very well get from my credit history and references I have provided them.

If enough people contact the OCC, Citi just may have to start changing how they deal with their customers.

Third, deed in lieu: I was approved twice by two different people only to be denied three weeks later and told to vacate my property on the sale date. Then only four days ago, I received a call from Citi wondering if I still want to pursue a home re mod even though they've already sold the property. I agree with many comments on this page. Different excuses, responses, and information from everyone. Either they really don't know what they are doing or they do and don't care. I know one thing, I'm saving all my documents and notes that I've accumulated from this horrible experience in hopes that the government slams Citi sometime in the near future.

I have had my condo mortgage with CitiMortgage for a number of years. I am also a professional musician/private music teacher. One side effect of being a musician is that over the summer, the income drops significantly as students take off for parts unknown and suspend their lessons until September. This puts a real damper on my ability to pay my mortgage (and buy food and pay other bills!). So 3 times over the life of my loan, I requested a payment deferral for one month over the summer, usually July. Then the money I save, I add to the reduced income in August to pay the August mortgage. It's not rocket science and according to the terms of the loan, you can do that once per year.
Well, every time I did it (all 3 times), something went wrong! I didn't think anything of it the first time - anything can happen. But every time?! Usually, two people tell me everything is fine, my paperwork is great and I'm all set. But the thing never goes through and I keep getting mortgage bills with that payment still included plus late fees. I have to call and complain and about three months later, somebody does something about it. I am currently in that situation right now. This is the third time now. No two people at CitiMortgage seem to know the same things. And one person puts my info into the computer and the next person says it's not there. This isn't the most difficult thing they have to do. And yet nobody can seem to do it right the first time. I have a small music business. And if I handled things this way, I would have no business.
Reading all these complaints and adding my own, I don't understand how this company stays in business. Like I said before, no two people seem to know the same things. I had a loan modification through them not because I had to but because I had a 3-year ARM mortgage and before I could refinance to a 30-yr fixed, the market tanked miserably! So, it seemed the only way I could get a fixed-rate mortgage, and lower interest, was to get the modification. It was horrible! It took 14 months total! I tell you, if you haven't had enough humiliation in your life, get a mortgage with CitiMortgage. They'll take care of that for you for sure! I'm currently trying to get away from them. Wish me luck!

We got behind on payments due to illness and family tragedies. We had previously tried a loan modification with another company and lost $1,200 due to the company being a scam. We agreed to do a modification with CitiMortgage and have sent them all the paperwork they required several times. I call the CitiMortgage lawyer about every other week and ask how things are progressing and she always says it is in the underwriters hands.
Just this week, I received a letter from CitiMortgage stating that they have sold our "Mortgage" to another company and we would have to deal with them now. What the heck! This is ridiculous and these people need to get their heads out of their butts. I have had a nervous breakdown because of the stress this has caused me. I am contacting you today to ask for assistance with my clients' attempt to avoid foreclosure by proceeding with a short sale.
As I have mentioned to numerous representatives with CitiMortgage, my clients charged off their loan with Citi in August 2011. Citi states that it was sent to Fannie. Fannie states that the loan was no longer with them as of August 2011 and that Citi must know who the loan was sold off to. The clients' credit report and title reflect Citi on the second; however, when I have called Citi (which I have done for over two months almost daily), I receive a number of responses, including being sent to a general customer service number, being sent to Fannie, Freddie, a short sale department, etc., and none of these can assist. From what I have read online in short sale forums and from what I have heard from Fannie and from a few people at Citi, the Recovery Dept should be able to assist me but when I called the Recovery Dept., it's a craps shoot - sometimes they just transfer me to another department after I give them the account number and refuse to listen to my clients' situation. Sometimes they hang up. Sometimes they say that I need to call Fannie (again, they either hang up, do not care to listen or just transfer me to a random dept).
Needless to say, it's been really difficult and I am just at a loss on how to move forward. The online forums and Fannie states that I should be able to resolve this with the Recovery Dept. The online forums say that it's an ongoing battle though and only one person has had success with this type of situation on the forum. Again, any assistance is truly appreciated. I have attached the fully executed offer, the approval from the first (GMAC has advised that they will provide an updated approval once the situation with the second is resolved) and the clients' last statement from Citi.
I have left a number of messages with Tanika at the Recovery Dept at Citi - I have been told that she is a manager and can assist. I spoke with her once and she advised that the loan is with Fannie but this is not the case. Fannie no longer had this loan as of 8/2011 and apparently this is the case with Citi as well but someone should know where it was sold. There has to be some paper trail on which investor(s) bought this loan and I just cannot get anyone on the phone that will even listen to my clients' case. I have also sent emails and faxes and I cannot get a response. Again, I truly appreciate your assistance and my clients do as well.

In October of 2011, I started a loan application with Citi for a measly $57K refinance of an investment rental property. I have less than a dozen investment properties. I'm not in trouble on them, and I thought taking advantage of lowered rates should be easy. Instead, it has been a year of baffling, stupefying and stultifying paperwork, incompetence, lack of communication and assorted ills.
Last week I received word that the loan request was being cancelled by Citi because, ostensibly, I had not provided the requested information. This is right after I was assured that everything was in and the loan was being processed. The last email I received from the underwriter was, "Let me look through it again before you send anything. I did not ask the processor to send this out and make any request until I have looked through it." Thanks.
I've just had a somewhat surreal conversation with Ms. **. She kept saying the loan was cancelled because I didn't provide this or that. I kept saying, "yes, I did." It was like talking to a wall. If you want to stay in business doing loans, I strongly suggest someone look into what happened.
Basically, my feeling is that there's a strong streak of incompetence running through the operation. Whenever I was asked for documents, I responded promptly. I either faxed or emailed the requested docs. I mostly used email because my experience showed that faxes disappeared. By now, I've sent every document multiple times. There was never an acknowledgment of document receipt by Citi, but then I'd get a threatening letter that the loan would be cancelled because the docs weren't received. So I'd send them again. Sometimes the request was vague and I'd ask for clarification. Mostly I'd get no answer, until the threatening letter again. And these letters always came late. Occasionally, I'd get an actual email from a processor.
But mostly there was silence, long periods of no activity, no communication, until a rushed realization that there was a need to clarify some obscure and insignificant piece of data. On top of that, I got the feeling that your staff didn't understand your own internal rules and requirements regarding refinances, or Fannie's rules. It also seemed that my file was being handled only a few minutes at a time. Find a problem, stop. Nobody seemed to be looking at the bigger picture, that this was a small loan to a no-risk borrower and that the focus on minutiae was not serving any purpose.
Oh, the loan was cancelled once before, earlier this year, so we were on the second iteration. That had to do with properties I have in France, and the difficulty of getting documents from French banks, which seem to be even less customer-focused than Citi. Once Citi finally clarified what it really needed and the French responded, the loan application was restarted. I thought that, because you now had all the paperwork, this time it would go quickly, and I was even assured that special emphasis would be placed on getting it expedited. Ha!
I'm not a novice at this. This is not my first loan or refinance. While this was going on, I managed to get two other refinances done with Wells Fargo. That didn't go without hiccups, but it got done in short order. I've again contacted Wells Fargo about doing more, and they actually apologized that their refinance process is stretching out to 90 days! I could cry. Something is wrong at CitiMortgage. If you want to find out what, this loan application is a good place to start investigating. I'm at your disposal.

Obviously, we had to send the check to them to release the funds for our contractor, which we did in a timely manner considering the damage sustained by our home. Each payment thereafter was applied to the month before making each of those payments late. (Unbelievably, my lawyer said they can do this.)

Although they admitted it was their mistake and admitted that the person who initially took my call should have fixed the error 2 years before, they now say they cannot fix the error because it has been too long and I owe another house payment of $1,200 and all the fees over $1,600 incurred over this time. If I don't get on a payment plan, they said they will continue to charge me fees. All because they made a mistake.

We have been dealing with CitiMortgage on a refi for several months now. We already have our mortgage with them. Payments are always on time. We continue to get delays on closing. It has already cost us more money. They continue to request "one more piece of information". They are doing everything they can to not do this. It has been hell dealing with them. I would never do business with them again.

I am a single mother of 2. I have been a homeowner for the past 8 years (2 with Chase and then CitiMortgage for the past 6 years with an adjustable rate). About 4 years ago, I received a letter from CitiMortgage stating that they are opening an escrow account on my behalf and my mortgage would increase by $600.00 per month. I spoke to an agent, and they advised me that they paid my taxes for me, I have never had an escrow, and I pay my taxes with my bonus check every year with no issues. The rep told me that I needed to apply for a mortgage modification. Well, I did. I was approved, and the offer was to raise my mortgage by adding a $4500 shortage and a escrow account onto my loan. Needless to say, I did not accept these terms and worked to get the escrow account closed.
Every time I called in, I was told that the escrow was opened because I applied for a modification, and I had to explain numerous times that the only reason I applied was to get the loan modified. After about 6 months of fighting to get the escrow account closed, I continued to pay my mortgage because I wanted to keep my account in good standing. (I had late payments about 5 years ago but got current and still remain that way.) Now this year, my mortgage is steadily increasing, because of the adjustable rate. I decided to apply for a modification under the National Debt Settlement. I was told I qualified for this option because my account was current. I was then told to fill out the expense report and was assigned to Homeowner Support Specialist Patricia.
This person contacted me on June 6, 2012 and stated that she would call once per week to let me know whether or not there was an update to my file and that I do qualify for the settlement. I have not heard from this person since. I have emailed her (She has read each one.) and called, and her extension is not valid. Even the reps I spoke to tried, and they told me to keep emailing her. However, I received a letter stating that my income is too high to have my mortgage balance settled, in which they used gross income and that was even overstated. I did get an approval where they would modify my mortgage from $1211.24 to $1651.45. They are doing me a favor by adding a $600.00 escrow again.
Yet, if I do not accept this modified payment as of September 2012, my mortgage, which is now $1211.24, will be increased to $2,125.79, because they will still do me the favor of adding an escrow to my account in the amount of $914.55 per month. I believe that I am being forced into a loan modification or foreclosure. I can't refinance, because the loan is upside down. That was the reason I contacted them for help in the first place. I'm not sure what to do, but I am about to start looking into bankruptcy.

On June 20, 2012, I authorized a loan consultant to charge $181 to my debit card. She told me that the $181 was my total out of pocket fee, and this would cover a $75 appraisal waiver fee, an application fee and a couple of other small fees so that they could proceed with the loan process. On July 9, 2012, I stopped for gas on my way to work, but my card was declined. Citi had charged $460 to my card, thus, overdrawing my account. I wasted the entire day calling Citi to get answers and help, but neither was forthcoming. I left messages for the loan consultant to call me but she never did. Two customer service reps sent her e-mails, and still she hasn't called me. Late in the afternoon, I received a call from a Brian ** who was quite indignant and condescending. He eventually told me that he would have the money credited back to my account but it would take a few days. He then said that we should just cancel the refinance since I am so unhappy.
As of today, July 13, 2012, the money has still not been returned to my account. I have tried to lodge a complaint with the executive response team at Citi, but no one has returned any of my three calls. I have had to borrow money to get through the week, and my refinance is in limbo. I am very angry about being treated this way. I have always made my mortgage payments on time, never late. My credit rating is in the high 700's. I don't understand this kind of abuse. No one should be treated this way.

We have a second mortgage with this cruddy/greedy company, Citibank. Well, we've had our home 10 years and a second mortgage for about 5 to 6 years. Citibank decided it was easier to charge our second mortgage a $393.03 "forced place Insurance" fee, then to pick up the phone and call us or our insurance agent that we've had for 27 years and get the policy faxed! They nestled these documents stating that they want "proof" of homeowner's insurance in a bundle of not important looking envelopes, and in the past they have got our insurance information for homeowners.
Citibank is vicious, greedy, terrible with customers on the phone. The employees are not very bright when it comes to understanding customers' problems. I highly advise any consumer to stay far away from Citibank for any financial services. We are in the process of refinancing our home back into a lower fixed rate with just one mortgage, and believe me, Citibank is not even being considered no matter what their rates are!

None of the banks or anybody would even talk to me about what I could do about catching up. Instead, they just took our car and send bills and make all kinds of phone calls at work and home. Now, after all my bills have been discharged in Chapter 7, Citi Finance still sends me bills and telling me to pay and they changed my account number. Is there no rest from this evil bank? They went under themselves and the government gave them lots of money but they will not work with anybody.

We live in Clearwater. Our former homeowner's policy, Liberty Mutual, notified us via USPS that Liberty Mutual would no longer be a provider of homeowner's property insurance as the company wasn't going to operate in Florida as of June 30, 2012. My husband, Jay, and I were seeking some quotes for homeowner's policy. In May of 2012, we found a company in Clearwater, Florida via Megan **. However, we soon did not want the insurance as they had too invasive inquiries into our privacy. We notified (by phone) our mortgagor, CitiMortgage, Inc. in the Property Insurance Correspondence, with regard to our escrow account. Customer representatives informed us that after the insurance with Liberty Mutual expires, CitiMortgage would mail us a letter in 7 days, notifying us to find other property insurance within 30 days to renew with another company or it would look into finding insurance for us by August 2012.
In the meantime, actually CitiMortgage (without any agreement with us and our instructions not to send money to Florida Peninsula) sent one year's premium to Florida Penisula. It seems that behind our backs, during the estimate that Megan contacted CitiMortgage, without notice from either CitiMortgage or Sandbergen Ins. (not a phone call, email, letter, etc.) set up an EFT from our CitiMortgage escrow to Florida Penisula via Sandbergen Insurance on June 13, 2012. We are seeking other homeowner's insurance as we were instructed by CitiMortgage, we didn't sign any papers nor other acknowledgements for Megan. In fact, on about June 4, 2012, we put a hold on any escrow payments to Florida Peninsula by calling (1-800-442-8774) Property Ins. Correspondence with our lender, CitiMortgage. We have a fraudulent scam unfolding, Sandbergen Insurance (possibly in Tampa, Florida) via only an inquiry to estimate with Megan **. One year's escrow savings is missing!
CitiMortgage customer service manager Ruthie ** (Property Ins. Correspondence) at (1-800-442-8774) did confirm today, July 9, 2012 that the escrow account has been turned over to Sandbergen Insurance on June 13, 2012 (EFT). All our money is gone to a non-existent insurance account without our consent or knowledge of thereof. Ms. ** was reluctant to help us by denying the previous instructions given by CitiMortgage representatives through Property Ins. Correspondence. Ms. ** let us know that the money is gone. She tried to start selling us insurance for Florida Peninsula as a good bargain.

When we closed on our house in July of 2008, I had requested that we be given the bottom line for the payment. We were given that figure and since it was comfortably within our budget, we closed. But apparently, they either slipped up or intentionally neglected to tell us that the builder had been paying "undeveloped" property taxes and after almost a year in the house, we received a notice that our house payment was increasing by almost $400 a month! We are both on Social Security (in our 70's) and both working full-time jobs to supplement, so an extra $400 a month is not even a possibility for us.
I called CitiMortgage and they told me we were eligible for a modification. Over the next 10 months, they kept stringing us along. I filled out their application and then was told about 5 more documents they wanted. I obtained them and faxed them to the first reviewer. I ended up faxing 20 pages of documents nine times to nine different reviewers in that period of time. Each time, being told that if I would get that information to them, it would be ready to go to the underwriter and that everything was looking good to get the modification. I struggled to make those payments for the first 3 months of 2011, but was having to let other bills go to do so I contacted them again.
They said not to worry, that they didn't usually give the accounts priority until the client was behind in the loan, so they should be making a decision very soon. Seven months later, after sending all of the requested information to them those nine times, I called to find out the status as we had received notice that they were going to foreclose. I was then told not to worry, that they would just move the foreclosure action to a later date and we would likely get the modification before that, which would nullify the foreclosure. Three days before they were to foreclose, I called again, panicky, only to be told that the modification had been denied and the case was closed. I asked why and they said because I hadn't faxed the requested material, which was an out and out lie. I had faxed that information 9 times! Really? They get to do this with no consequences? Apparently, we lost our home!

Even through all of that, we kept our house payment current and didn't walk away from the disaster of a home we were left now. How could CitiMortgage close the refinance on my home and then decide 30+ days later the loan didn't go through. In September 2011, I lost my 91-year-old mom who shared the home with me and I ran into difficulties trying to meet my mortgage needs. I then applied to CitiMortgage for the loan modification and was lead through 3 months of filing papers and going through various associates, only to be told that my credit obligation was in good standing and I was not in the rear enough to qualify and I was denied the modification loan. They explained to me that I may be eligible for a refinance, so I applied and I was told that I would be eligible for the loan. I struggled getting all the papers and documents to them as soon as I could. I was told that I should be able to close in June 2012. In June I called to see the status of the loan and was told that I am 30 days late and I would not be eligible for the loan.
First of all, I should have never had that late charge affixed to me. In March of that year I withdrew $5,000.00 and placed it into my checking account and I called some people at CitiMortgage and gave them my routing number and my account for SECU. I explained to them that my banking was changed from M&T Bank to SECU and that I was on the bi-weekly advantage plan and hope that information would get to the right party. It wasn't until sometime in April when I got a check from Advantage for $634.00. When I called them to inquire what was the check for, they told me that I was cancelled due to having insufficient funds in my account, which was still at M&T. At this time I am very angry that this could happen when I work so hard at trying to get and keep my credit in good standing, which was the reason that I enrolled in the bi-weekly pay in the first place. When I make my monthly payment, it was to CitiMortgage and that’s why I called to explain the changes that were made.

They scam on holding deposits to charge your account NSF fees; this is why they’re in a class action law suit. We opened new accounts with our credit union. They also mistakenly returned a draft to Citi, wrote to them saying it was not our fault, every payment we made since was returned by Citi. We called, wrote, and hired attorneys. They review their file, not ours say we are at fault. There is no work out and they are trying to take our home away, 13 years and over $200k of our money, our blood, sweat and tears.
We have all the documentation to prove how the problems just snowballed, anyone else face these challenges? Our past loans with Countrywide, Saxon had no issues, great credit. We had a 15-year loan to pay off so we can retire. If we lose this battle, we lose everything at age 56. We will not give up and they will not get our home. My attorney did everything that he was supposed to do, but CitiMortgage dropped the ball by saying that they did not receive my attorney's paperwork for my reaffirmation. Since then, I have been on a campaign to write asking for the papers via the snail mail, emails and phone calls. I feel ashamed for how they do business. Their workers will tell you that they are "working on it" (the situation). They've sent letters telling me to hang on a few days so that they can "look through everything for the papers" and that I can feel free to call or write anytime. I think that the problem is that they went through a company change to a bank called Midland Bank and though my note went there, my reaffirmation problems are still with Citi.
This is my first house. I've paid my first new car off and have become a conscientious and responsible shopper. My house means a lot to me and I don't want a bank to own anything more than they should. Especially a bank that I am not even doing business with. They obviously screwed up things or they wouldn't have had to give my note to someone else. I don't think that I am asking for something that I don't deserve or isn't mine. I am so disgusted with what I have gone through over the last eight months with CitiMortgage. I cannot believe they get away with treating their customers like they do. This all started in October 2011. I knew I was going to fall behind on my mortgage so I reached out to them to see if there was anything they could do. Of course, since I was current, the answer was no. I even sent them an email asking for help. I then became delinquent. In February, I started working with an executive consultant on a medication. I sent her everything they requested in Feb. 2012. She has been the most difficult person to work with. But I understood I had no choice because I needed my home. In March 2012, I started received things from an attorney for Citi. The consultant I was working with said the foreclosure process continues even though my information was being reviewed by the underwriters. The underwriters continued to request more information even some being the same as I already sent them.
During all this, I received a sheriff sale date for May 24, 2012. When I called Citi, they said they're still waiting on a decision from the underwriters and I had to send them more info which the process starts over again 30-45 days which would be after the sheriff date. Never before have a cried on the phone to a customer service rep but this company had me so upset. During this entire process, I advised them of money I had saved, a raise I received in April to help my future payments, etc. Well, a friend of mine told me about a non-profit Michigan program. I called them and started working with them on a modification. I sent them all the information requested and within two weeks was approved for a modification on my past due balance owed to Citi and escrow. I was denied a modification from Citi last week. I still have some unanswered question with CitiMortgage and the exec specialist I am to work with is still being so difficult still. I just don’t know what to do anymore. I just wanted to warn anyone that is thinking about doing business with this sham of a mortgage company to run and run fast. CitiMortgage is flat out the worst company out there. All over their website, they claim to call them if you are having financial difficulties. That is a just trap so they can get your house. After my husband lost his job, we fell a little behind and not knowing what a terrible company they are, I called and explained my situation. Of course, they would be happy to review my mortgage for a loan modification. I faxed my paperwork in on September 1, 2011. It is now May 10, 2012 and I have yet to get anyone to help me. I’m still waiting on an answer that's been "in review" for over 8 months, including the last 3 months in "expedited review".
So, all this time while it is supposedly "being reviewed", no one ever advised me that I was in danger of foreclosure. CitiMortgage never called me, never sent me any letters requesting payment or letting me know my account was going to foreclosure, as they are required to do by federal law (at least with FHA mortgages). Yet the cops still were knocking on my door handing me a foreclosure complaint without any notice whatsoever. CitiMortgage is also required to contact me and review my account for modification before filing a foreclosure and again failed to follow the law. They never even made one attempt to contact me.
I am not sure how they continue to ignore federal law and just do whatever they want. I reported them to HUD, but my account still sits in foreclosure. I understand I fell behind, but I would have never let it get to foreclosure had I known. They purposely led me down the path to foreclosure and now want over $10,000 (including all these "expenses" which are not detailed) or my house, whichever comes first.
As I said, if someone would have warned me, I could have taken care of this long ago, but I was stupid enough to believe it really was being reviewed and fell for lie after lie after lie. I could go on and on about the gazillion times I called them, faxed them, emailed them, scheduled telephone calls to "discuss my account" and no one would never call, but I don't have all day. I'll save it for the class action lawsuit that I am sure will eventually be brought. I can't wait for the day when they have to pay out billions of dollars for breaking laws to screw people over.

I received a FedEx letter from Citibank offering me to refinance my mortgage. It said no cost to me, no appraisal and locked interest rate.
I called talked to Tim. Of course, I didn't meet the qualifications. I'm not sure if anyone did after reading the long list on the back of the letter of eligibility requirements. But they would still give me a loan to lower my interest rates. I have given all my information (which took a lot of time). My credit report was pulled, which already had the information there. But I was assured with my good credit that I would not have a problem. After all, I have had a credit card with Citibank for 26 years and have had these loans that I wanted to refinance for 10 years. I was trying to refinance 3 rental properties that have almost 50% equity in them. I have paid extra on the principal for years. My Equifax score was 729.
Before we hung up, Tim assured me that he could get my loan though without bothering me. He was to lock in on the interest rate and I would not need an appraisal but there would be a small fee. So I gave my credit card information (Thinking all the time that the letter said no cost to me). I told Tim that I would be leaving on spring break and would not be back for 10 days or more.
Then I get a call saying that one property will need an appraisal. But he assured me that the other two did not. I met with the appraiser which was very hard to do. I had to drive 125 miles to the property. Instead of using a local appraiser, they called one that had to drive an hour to get there. We had no trouble getting in one side but the tenant on the other side was out of town to work and his wife work also. We do not go into homes without tenant at home. We gave the phone number of tenant to the appraiser so that he could call and set up another time. We call tenant and gave him appraiser’s number. They could not get though to each other for one reason or another.
When I got back from vacation, I had 12 calls from Citibank insisting that I get information to them or they would drop my application. When I talk to Tim, I told him that this was getting too complicated for me after he told me that the other properties need an appraisal because of the tornado that had come through earlier that month even though it was more than twenty miles from my properties. I told him that I would have roughly more than $2,500.00 tied up in the refinance if I had to do all that he had asked.
At that time, I told him to pull my applications. One by one, the denial letters came in with unfavorable reasons why my applications had been denied. When my credit card bill came this month, it had charges of $665.00, $105.50, $105.50, $75.00 and $75.00. That's a thousand dollars for nothing. I am sure President Obama did not intend for the government-sponsored home affordable refinance program to be used in this manner.
I would like for the information to be removed from my credit report. Also, I would like a refund of the money I spent for nothing. When I finish paying my loans and credit cards, I will never use Citibank again and believe me, I will pass the word around. I am sure Citibank will not do anything about the way things are handled in the mortgage refinance department but I'm sure President Obama and Governor Daniels would like to know.

Citi Mortgage failed in filling Safeco title issue: Back in 2002, I found some property out in Springtown right at 20 acres and then I found a manufactured 1996 used 1,800 sq ft home. I was single at this time and had a single mortgage standard 30 yr FHA loan. Almost 6 yrs down the road, I came home and found a note on my door that Parker Co was about to seize my home for none payment of taxes. Interesting, I had not received anything in my name and my land was in Wise Co. So I set out to find what this was all about. By this time, I had also had my homeowners insurance canceled for no given reason by Farmers Insurance. In which, I accounted it due to them unloading high risk due to mold issue payouts when all that was going on. So, we just selected another company. Keep in mind I had an escrow that took care of all this that I had bought into a couple years after buying the place. At that time, ABN Ambro was my mortgage holder, wonderful company, very helpful.
Back to seizure of home, after many trips over to Parker Co with my papers in hand showing that my home was tied to the land and had been turned into real property, I discovered that Safeco Title did not process the paper work through the state and canceled the title to the home and changed it into my name. Safeco Title had gone under by then and after trying to many times and contacting each of the companies that had acquired their assets, none could help me. I also at this time was in contact with my new mortgage company, CitiMortgage, asking out right pleading for help in resolving this issue. This fell of deaf uncaring ears as this company was too large and did not care and outright told me this was my problem.
Downward spiral begins. Trying to keep Parker Co off my back by making payments for the school taxes that accrued in the previous owner’s name and at this time is when gas reached record highs. I had my homeowners insurance canceled again. I had never made a claim into any of them. But this time, I knew why. You can't insure something you don't own. CitiMortgage issues single interest insurance payments jump from $780.00 to $1,100.00 plus the tax payments to Parker Co.
Now, I'm constantly asking for assistance in resolving this issue, drawing of deaf and blind caring companies, real estate attorneys want my first born to take on the case to fix it maybe. All this and not once had I ever been late on a payment. But I was at the end of my rope and things/financial and physical health due to the amount of stress had reached a breaking point.
October 2009, I called and notified and emailed CitiMortgage to put me in default as I give up. Citi said why you never been late on a payment, all I said were look at my file and you have your answer to why. Well, we can't do that auto-draft, you have to default on payments and there’s a process you have to go through before default. Okay whatever, you have your notice, I can't fix it, you won't fix it, I'm drowning, I'm out.
Hard letting go of something you made your family dream. Invested into improvements, workshop, farm implements, and outright self sustaining living, paying cash as I went for everything, and then liquidating it all to have to move back to a rent house in the city. My total investment for the land and home was $87k. The tax appraised value for the land alone was $145k less improvements, this was a catastrophic loss. You can't sell something you don't own or insure and with all the mortgage crisis happening, I was left to fall into foreclosure myself.
But as I told CitiMortgage, hey you’re going to love this one. It's a diamond, you won't lose a dime but I lost a fortune and I now have this on my credit and I sit here stuck still in depression and I need help in resolving this so I can start over. I give up on the dream of living in the country as this has taken a toll on my health and I am unable to be the superman/dad I once was. But I still have to get something that I can call my own and have a work shop as this is therapy to me.
The place in Springtown just recently sold and as to no surprise, I owe nothing/never received anything as to what it sold for, but I'm sure they made money on it. I know if I could have had that opportunity, I would be setting almost mortgage free with the gain. Thanks Safeco and Citi.
