For 9 months I have been trying to cancel Anytime Fitness. I walked in and was told I needed to send a signed letter to ABC financial to cancel. Done. (Crickets). I sent another one. (crickets) Then my card expired, I thought good now it will cancel. Nope. I get an email asking my to update my expired credit card and pay $55.00. Nope. I called and after providing my account number and numerous other information to prove it was me, spoke to a customer service operator and got the canned response. I requested a supervisor. Kathy got on the phone and was again unable to assist me and the person who she needed to talk to was "out today" and as their rules state you must send a signed, certified letter. Done that twice.
Last night I got a call from them reminding me about my "overdue balance". How about you find the two letters I sent and CANCEL. Today I got an email from Anytime Fitness, who mind you kept billing me even when closed due to COVID and was told they needed to pay their rent, about owing them money. If I could give no stars I would. I am in IT and to expect people to use the post office in this day and age to cancel something is archaic. This is the worst company I've ever dealt with.

This is the contract billing agency for the GYM chain Anytime Fitness. They recently changed names from ABC Financial to ABC Fitness Financial. Don't be fooled into signing up for a gym membership at any of these locations. My 83 year old mother in law (with Dementia) was supposed to sign up for the Medicare program Silver Sneakers. They convinced her she needed a full gym membership instead of the Medicare covered portion. They have been billing her for an unknown amount of time, and she hasn't used the facilities in over 6 months. Her disease has progressed so far that she is unable to exercise or use a facility at all, and is now stuck in a contract with this company. They require a note from the doctor, 30 days notice, and a $100 cancellation fee. It's cheaper for us to continue paying the monthly fee for the duration of the contract, rather than cancel. Poor excuse for a company with the worst standards for customer service.

Updated on 12/02/2020: Trying to cancel their membership for more than 3 months due to the ongoing pandemic. Sent all the details to membersupport@abcfinancial.com 3-4 times. Still no response. They are not cancelling my membership with the cases increasing all over the place. Just taking the money from my account every month. Such a worst customer care and support. This is an ongoing pandemic and why are they not cancelling my membership after multiple requests. How come this is not considered as an emergency situation? Can rate less than 1 star if possible. Never ever joining a gym tied with ABC Financial Services.
Original review: I joined the edge fitness, Norwalk CT just 2 months before covid 19 and the gym was completely closed due to the pandemic. I am totally not comfortable going back to the gym now when the pandemic is still going on. I tried to contact them via mail and phone to cancel but they need a medical reason to cancel. I totally don't understand. There is an ongoing global pandemic and they expect me to take a risk at my life by going to gym. I have older people to take care of at home and can't risk it for any reasons. I contacted them in advance but no use. Why don't they make a proper measure during these unexpected horrible times? Totally unacceptable.

Unfortunately they will not terminate my contract even though I gave notice as required by my state. They were no help at all. I also gave my gym written notice of my termination. Now they want $58.99. This is disgusting and predatory, especially during these hard times. I had to put a block on charges with my credit card. If anyone has trouble getting them to stop charging, call your CC company and get a block put on.

My husband and I signed up for Edge fitness right before COVID hit. We weren’t even done with our free month before all gyms in Michigan were shut down. I called to try to cancel our membership due to being high risk and our children being high risk. I keep getting the running around to email ABC Financial or call the gym. I understand in normal situation a note from the doctor would be needed, but with job loss and everything are they going to pay for the office visit? I just would like our memberships cancelled to keep our high risk family safe.

My card expired in June but I didn't receive any kind of notice until two weeks ago. I tried to email them but they never responded, but they had an autodialer call me today. When I spoke with someone about my late bill, she just told me that they waived the fees back when COVID started but in June they tried to start charging me again. So if they couldn't charge me in June, why didn't they contact me then? They had all my information on file and I didn't receive any sort of notice until the start of September. These businesses are a joke, most likely purposefully racking up late fees so they get more money.

I would give them zero stars if it were possible. I contacted ABC in July after losing my job due to COVID. I had a gym membership I was trying to cancel, and two club managers said I needed to do it through ABC. ABC refused to help me with the matter and the customer service rep was really rude. I reached out to ABC last week as my membership contract only has two months left, so I emailed them and explained I had two billing cycles left and would like to cancel AFTER the last two billing cycles.
Each person that replies to me refuses to cancel my membership and explains that I'm under a contract, even though I clearly explained I am aware I have two payments left, I'd like to be sure my membership is canceled pending those last two withdrawals. I've had nothing but nightmare experiences dealing with ABC, so I'd like to ensure my membership is canceled so I don't incur any extra charges. It's ridiculous to me that they won't even take the time to read my email, they just send an automatic response stating I'm in a contract and I'm not allowed to cancel.

I was told the only way to do this is to get a doctor note stating I could not work out for 6 months. My doctor wrote a note stating due to my health condition and covid 19 I was not to return to the gym. I received an email back saying this was not a good enough reason to cancel my membership. I was flabbergasted by this respond. I will continue to post on any social media board I can about how medical conditions during covid 19 are not a good enough reason to cancel memberships. Which clearly is beyond their comprehension because she kept repeating that the only way I can cancel the contract is to move or be disabled. I get it but this is a nationwide pandemic. Why am I paying monthly for a gym I refuse to step foot into during this time. There should be more understanding and a way less of a condescending attitude, when I doubt the people we are speaking to are even choosing to go to the gym at this time as well. The second rep said I also needed a doctor's note--every rep with a different story. I emailed the doctor's note following the guidelines--did not want to have to pay for another certified letter which 4 other club members never had to do; instead they got cancellations with one phone call! For some reason I was treated differently than others and given a runaround with different instructions each time I called. I'm still waiting to get my membership cancelled. This company is inconsistent and treats people differently, willy nilly, depending on reps' individual responses.

I happened to be looking through my spam emails today when I noticed a Final Notice from ABC Financial about my membership at Crunch fitness. I hadn't received any contact that my gym membership payments were not going through so I was confused why I would be getting a final notice. Looking into it further, the card I was paying my Crunch membership was in fact declining the payments for the past 3 months, but was not aware of this. Probably because the emails from ABC Financial were most likely marked as spam. Me and my fiancé signed up at our local Anytime Fitness for a 3 year contract, went over the paperwork with the owner at the time of signing up. If all Anytime Fitness locations are like ours was, the gyms themselves are absolutely wonderful. It's ABC Financial that is a problem. The (at the time) owner explained to us that after our 3 year contract was up, we would be notified and IF WE WANTED TO, could either sign another yearly agreement or go month to month. So we signed the contract and moved on.
Well it's been over 3 years and we were never notified and suddenly we are on a month to month, only found this out after talking to the current owner of the location. Which he apologized, gave me the information I needed to cancel, and suggested I could inquire to ABC Financial about them refunding at least part of what I've been paying, since he could do nothing, they don't collect payments directly at Anytime Fitness, you pay ABC Financial. Which I did, now instead of cutting their losses and correcting something that happened due to one of THEIR business partners being dishonest, they decided to repeatedly tell me nothing could be done because "You signed the contract." And while that is true, they could have at least worked with me a little to correct something that was wrong.
Now if they actually manage to cancel our memberships and NOT charge me another month because even the owner of the gym said that if it wasn't exactly 30 days, they would most likely charge me again. So if you've read this far, all I have to say is that if you are signing up at a gym that's with ABC Financial, make sure the owner is ACTUALLY going over the paperwork with you, not lying to your face, cause otherwise you're going to be out a ton of money like me because ABC Financial will do NOTHING to help you.

They said I can't cancel my billing there (only sign up ironically). I had to deal with ABC direct.
I go to deal with ABC direct and I cannot cancel electronically or over the phone AT ALL. I am required to mail in "Certified Mail" to their address. I unfortunately go through this tedious process and get it in weeks before my next billing cycle. They send me an email saying they are honoring the cancellation but have to bill me the next date because it wasn't exactly 30 days in ADVANCE. I explain it's weeks in advance and I no longer even have access to the gym. No response. Purposefully have convoluted methods to cancel membership which are completely isolated/separate from the Gym itself in order to try to squeeze a few extra months of payments out of members. ABC Financial had already charged me for for September, so he said that would be the last due. I even got an e-mail from Retro Fitness that the cancellation form I signed.
So, imagine my surprise when ABC Financial sends me e-mails saying I have a past due balance of $49.99? I have been reading on how awful ABC Financial's business practices are, but the fact that they are still trying to charge me after the gym terminated my membership is appalling. I can't use the gym anymore, but they still want to charge me. I plan to file a complaint, this is infuriating and ridiculous.

I have MS among other serious health issues that prevent me from being able to exercise any longer, and each month I have paid my $ on time, but I needed to cancel due to my health. Long story short, they STILL haven't cancel. It's almost comical. Life is too short to have this kind of criminal activity happening in my life when my initial focus was to work on getting healthy. So please PLEASE read your contract before you sign. It will save you years of heartache.

I called, spoke with customer service and advised them I no longer want the membership. They said I have to send certified mail to stop the membership. That's ridiculous. When I signed up with them I did it online, when they took my money it was done online, but if I want to cancel I have to do it through the mail? Nobody hardly uses post office or certified mail. So now you want a consumer to spend more money. This financial place is a scam and want to keep charging your credit card for 30 days after they get the certified mail. I used ABC Financial for my gym membership. I first tried to cancel my membership and then make me pay for my last month, when I paid for my last month when I first signed up. Then, when my gym SUDDENLY closed... They told me that I still had to pay the ANNUAL EQUIPMENT FEE, even though the gym was no longer in service. When I did not pay that fee, they REOPENED my agreement, charged me for MONTHS, and then sent my debt into collections. Absolutely SHAMEFUL. Worst company I have EVER dealt with. All they do is steal money from people. I am looking forward to bringing them to court in the upcoming month!

Not only was I not made aware of this change but they had the nerve to transfer my private information such as debit card to the new gym, therefore WillyB Fitness was now charging me monthly. Under the electronic funds transfer act, a company must get a customers’ permission to process charges on their credit or debit card. This is illegal."
^^This happened to me too! They reached out to me for the first time on 10/29/19 trying to collect a past due balance (via text! which seems strange to me) and are threatening to send me to collections! I never received any sort of notice that any of this was happening. They kept telling me that I was notified via MailChimp and they have confirmation but I do not have anything in my email from either Retro Fitness or WillyB. We should've been notified of the change and given the option to either continue with WillyB or cancel our contract. I did not sign a contract with WillyB and am not okay with them having my private information.

My experience with ABC FINANCIAL was nothing short of awful. After carefully grocery shopping while on a budget I had my debit card declined. My little bit of savings were on the card so I was confused.. That's when I found a $810 charge by ABC Financial on my statement! I have 1 signed contract authorizing this company to use electric funds transfer (EFT) for my gym's monthly club membership fees of what was for $28, I pay $48 per month for my family of three to attend The Club Northwest/Kidzone.
I was charged $810 for a completely separate personal training contract - ABC Financial was not authorized to use EFT on anything other than my family's reoccurring monthly membership fee. I never missed a payment. The club was yet to respond why they felt they were authorized to use a completely separate contract to charge my personal training fees too. Fees that were FROZEN due to medical reasons. I only owed $540 but I was charged a whopping $810.. more than my rent!
10/17/19 at 1:30 pm I called ABC Financial to dispute why this was allowed to happen. The rep I spoke to was Montyna. I was told because the gym has 1 contract with my personal checking account info that the clubs allowed to make charges not signed for on my contract! She said I would need to file a dispute with my bank so I called Wells Fargo and made a claim for the unauthorized charges.
I am very upset. This financial service allowed a gym to use my EFT info to charge me for things other than what's stated on my contract - the contract is very detailed and specifies charges over $50 than usual require preauthorization by 10 days at least, if my normal monthly bill is $48.00 why wasn't I contacted in regards to a $810 bill made the same month? The fine print is very specific on what is and isn't allowed. I don't understand how this was allowed to happen and handled so poorly.

I had a 2-year contract with Anytime Fitness that worked with ABC Financial. When I began my membership, I specifically put it as NO auto renewal. I even checked the agreement to make sure it said no once it was posted online at MyICLUB.com. When I saw I was still charged after the contract ended. I called my gym (after checking once again that the auto renew said "no") and they said I had to call ABC Financial. Once I did call ABC I was explaining to the operator that my contract shouldn't have renewed and that the contract itself says, "no auto renewal." She said it says, "yes."
When I went to e-mail her the contract, I saw that it now said, "yes." I made sure so many times that it wouldn't auto renew. I checked the contract right before calling my gym just in case and it definitely said "no". My biggest mistake was not printing out the contract. I joined the same gym as a friend and the same thing happened to him. Don't ever join a gym that works with this company, what they did is completely illegal since my initials were in that contract and it was changed after the fact. Always print your contract and stay far away from this company!

Please be advised that ABC does not have the capabilities to modify the agreement you signed with Anytime Fitness in any way. Please feel free to email me your 9 digit agreement number so I can locate your account and review your agreement.

ABC Financial refers to themselves as a company that provides billing services and contract administration for health clubs and gyms. However searching online, you will soon discover that this company is categorized (including this site) as a Debt Collection Agency. There are hundreds of consumer's complaints and Lawsuits filed by various State's Attorney Generals for their unethical and shady business practices. Be prepared to waste hours of your personal time trying to get your situation resolved. In the future, I will avoid any gyms or fitness centers that use ABC Financial or their affiliates to manage their membership contracts.
My Experience: Joined the new EOS Fitness in Oceanside, CA during their pre-opening sale of $9.99. Received a "30-Days 100% Money Back" certificate as an incentive to join (don't join EOS without one!). My EOS rep, J. **, never disclosed that there would also be an annual $49 to lock in the rate even when inquired. Not cool. Not only did EOS missed their Grand Opening by 60 days but their heated pool as won't be open until July. No written communications about either delay. Thus I canceled at the Club, never having used the facility.
The Operations Mgr., J. **, gladly took my "100% Money Back Certificate" and canceled my membership at the front desk POS System. Err... wait. You take my certificate but won't give me anything in writing that I canceled? Err, no. I insisted that she make a copy of my certificate and signed it stating I am canceled. She stated that ABC Financial would refund my initial processing fee deposit of $9.99 and would not debit any monies from my credit card on file, as the account was now officially closed on EOS Fitness end. Sent that certificate with a signed statement, date and signature to ABC Financial via email (ccrequests@abcfinancial.com) as instructed in their "Cancellation and Freeze Procedures".
On what would be my FIRST payment date, the monthly due ($17.99) PLUS the annual ($49) fee rate was deducted ($67.98). Emailed 6 pages of my supporting documents but ZERO acknowledgment or response. Notified my bank to dispute the charges and they refer me to their fraud division. The bank seems to be familiar with the shady tactics of ABC Financial. Based on other reviews throughout the web, I believe this is going to be a long drawn out process as the company is unresponsive and perhaps, unethical. EOS Fitness states they have no control over how ABC Financial conducts their business. My regret is not being familiar with this company from the beginning and the numerous consumer's complaints and lawsuits. Consumers, beware.

No, they will need to speak to him, of course they don’t mind charging my account but I can’t take my card off file! So I wait until I can get the account number from him and call again. This time I am told I can’t do it over the phone but that I can write down all the accounts on a piece of paper have everyone sign it and email it to them. Done.
Next month here comes yet three more drafts out of my bank account. You're just noting my account and that's it? "That's it." Eight days later, my card gets billed. I'm thinking that I missed a cutoff, so I didn't sweat it. A month later, I get notified that they tried to bill my account but my card didn't go through. I call ABC Financial, they have no record of my cancellation (surprise!) and they can't cancel, I have to go back to the club. I go back to the club, and they have no record of my cancellation.
This person tells me if I want to cancel, I have to pay $79.99 cancellation fee. At this point, I'm mad but agree to pay it, and tell them I'm not paying anything else. Next day, I get a phone call from ABC, "you need to update your billing information." Why? "Because you have an overdue dues payment AND your $89 annual fee is due." But I just paid to cancel my membership yesterday. "But your monthly payment and annual fee were due before yesterday." So I basically paid over $300 for a gym membership and never once set foot in the gym to work out. Crooks.

Ending our membership with Evolve Fitness in Cambridge, MA has been impossible. We are pretty much giving up at this point and writing it off as a loss. The contract terms to cancel are difficult, but not impossible (proof of new address with one of their allowed document sources). Even when meeting the terms of the contract to cancel, we were still denied and have to pay for the next 8 months plus a $89 cancellation fee ($89??? I guess that covers the time they need to spend on the phone with the people they are trying to fleece). Anyway, I urge you to avoid Evolve Fitness and their membership partner, ABC Financial.

I had a Gym Membership with Crunch Fitness, ABC Financial is the company that handles payment processing for Crunch Fitness. There were two things I didn't like about ABC Financial. One was my oversight, the second, is bad customer service on ABC Financial. The first is, a $15.00/month gym membership also has a 'service fee' for $42 dollars, so it's not really $15 a month, this 'service fee' is clearly stated in the agreement I signed at the gym (although it is in very small print). What service fee is need to charge my card? The gym membership should included all 'service fees' that's the point of a membership.
The second, and really only, issue is, I called to cancel my account and they said they couldn't do that. So then I told them to make sure my account is not on Automatic renewal, simple request, extremely difficult for ABC Financial to follow. I have been harassed via automated messages and below board tactics to get me to pay for my new year. I somehow was charged on my credit card after the card was cancelled. Terrible, now I have to fight that with my credit card company. Are they charging other accounts as well, how did they charged my cancelled credit card? How can any gym consider this company to do their financial services? The reviews are so bad, but I'm not surprised, very shady company.

I explained to the staff that I did not want to be locked into a contract because I did not plan on traveling for the gym. I was told by my sales rep (Kat **) that because of my location I qualified for early termination because I lived “outside of the radius”. This was the only reason that I agreed to join the gym. I specifically signed up for Bristol and only Bristol because I was told early termination would not be a problem.
I was also told that if I signed up for the multiple locations membership that I would not be allowed to terminate early. I have tried multiple attempts to cancel my membership but have been told I cannot since I live closer to another edge that I cannot which is NOT what the gym employee told me. My wife and I have had memberships with Retro Fitness in Bayville, NJ for just over two years. We no longer need the membership and have tried to cancel. First attempt was to go into the gym where we were told we either had to come back Monday to Friday between 930 am and 500 pm to speak to a manager or we could send a certified letter. We went home and found our agreement on ABC Financial's website to get the details of where we needed to send the certified letter. We send (and paid for!) the certified letter and have confirmation it was delivered. I called ABC Financial to confirm the account was canceled and that I need to go to the gym and speak to a manager.
I read the cancellation section of the agreement to the lady on the phone and asked why they could not cancel the account when the agreement specifically said to send them the cancellation letter. She had no answer other than to refer me back to the manager at the gym. We have just passed the date where advance notice was required to avoid paying next month's fee. Sorry for this essay in advance. But I am kind of tired of writing to and looking for solutions for this company but I want to put my two cents in. I canceled with an authorized letter to ABC Financial after my contract was up and kept being charged for about 5 months after I contacted them by phone and email and mentioned how I wanted to cancel yet charges kept coming. Mind you I didn't even live near the gym anymore. Was told by two different people by phone that I would be canceled and last months' reimbursed yet they kept charging my account even overdrawing that account at times costing me 35$ fees. The only way I could stop being charged monthly was by switching banks and after that I thought they would get the hint. Instead they sent me a problem with my bank email so I called yet again to remind them I canceled and sent plenty of emails which I have saved for my records addressing the issue.
A few months pass no word from ABC Financial then suddenly I see my credit score plummet and a in collection charge of 178$. I called the collection agency and again ABC Financial to remove this fraudulent charge. Agency says nothing they can do. They are sorry and I don't even blame the employee for doing their job. I am not the type to berate another human being just doing their job answering phones so I call ABC which still tries to give me the same runaround. I am now beyond upset because me and my girl are to buy a house and can't do so because this company decided to screw me for every cent I have or don't have. I guess and it's not like they aren't aware of my situation. They sent me a text to return to my gym for 25$ Recently and have all previous charges dropped.
I am dumbfounded that they think I will travel to that gym or be their customer ever again. Then recently I receive an email that I am part of a settlement of a lawsuit brought against them for doing the same to God knows how many other customers and here I am right before Christmas trying to get through the holidays, still trying to resolve this and fix the good credit record that I used to have and took years to build and only resolution seems a lawsuit. I work in customer service and my opinion is the customer is not important to this company. Only finding a way to get every single cent of you.

The representatives that responded requested additional information, Bank or credit card statements which I did not feel comfortable providing and was not stated in my contract that I agreed to.
When I asked for clarification, and for them to direct me to the part of the contract that I agreed to that states that supplemental documentation is required in addition to a change of address confirmation, I was told to log in to my account and find it myself. This is unacceptable, I have read the entire contract, and nowhere does it state that I am required to provide additional documentation if I am using a USPS change confirmation. The agreement does state, however, that I can cancel my agreement without penalty if I provided USPS address change confirmation OR new utility bill. The only way the representative would process my cancellation was under the 'buy out' option which caused an additional 60 bucks to be billed to my account in order to terminate the contract.

All was good w/ initial signup, etc. I was told that in the event I needed to put a freeze on the account that I would be able to do so (medical reasons, travel, etc) which I thought might come in handy since I do unexpectedly travel for periods of time. I thought this was actually a great idea and I'd be able to freeze my membership and not waste any unused days. I made a call today in an attempt to take advantage of this service, however, submitting the request would take 30 to take effect before the membership would be put on hold. Does it really take you (ABC) 30 days from my request date to put the account on freeze?
I'm not sure I understand your process and why this isn't an option to be able to utilize online? I will be traveling next week which was unexpected, thought I could save some of my time, but was advised that basically I will waste a month of my membership as I'll be back in town before the freeze will be effective. If you offer this service, then perhaps you should be a little bit more transparent about the time frame your company operates. I was told upfront this was an option but was not told there was a 30 day grace period. I certainly hope you consider this in the future, however, based on the lengthy amount of extremely poor reviews here I doubt anything will come of this. I know that it was an error with their membership account services/set up and they refuse to resolve this and basically told me to, "** YOU, we are keeping your $336.89." If that’s not horrible customer service, what is?? The owners of Oceanside, NY location declined to resolve this and had ABC Financial tell me.
Apparently, ABC FINANCIAL is authorized to take our money monthly and control a membership but when there is an error, they aren’t authorized to fix it and issue a refund. Now this inconvenience has lead me to have to take legal actions and has been nothing but a headache. This is the worst customer service I have ever seen and the worst financial scam that my attorney has seen.
Beware. They offer you a deal to sign up. Then overcharge your card, their system may put your credit card info into someone else’s account and they won’t fix it. Hours of phone calls and headaches and they still refuse!!! Their offers are not worth this!!! Nothing is!!! Go to Blink Fitness or NY Sports Club!!! They would never scam like Retro Fitness has!! They could have refunded me and I wouldn’t be so distraught, but they refuse to issue my money back and leave it on an account that’s not mine!!! But keep my account in past due status meanwhile my card was charged every month for 9 months!!!

I have been trying to cancel my gym membership since January 2018 with no luck. I was under contract when I tried to cancel which was fine. I asked the rep at ABC Financial to make sure that my account was not set to auto-renew but to leave the account alone until the end of my contract. Fast forward to October 2018, I see the annual fee come out of my bank. I called and the woman I spoke to said that she would start an "investigation" to see if I qualify to have the annual fee refunded and it would take 3-5 business days and to check for an email from them. I told them that I did not care about the monthly fee that was already paid for Oct, I just wanted the annual fee refunded.
I waited 8 days and did not receive an email so I called again. I was told that I am responsible for the fee even though it is for a year that I will not have the membership as I have already cancelled. This rep sent me to a supervisor who told me that she will be doing another "investigation" to pull the original call from January to see if I really did tell them to take my account off of auto-renew. This again will take "3-5 business days." This is absolutely ridiculous. I am done chasing a resolution. Someone needs to get this resolved. As long as ABC Financial handles 10Gyms accounts, I will never renew my membership with them.

I have been attempting to cancel my membership to Anytime Fitness for MONTHS and keep getting charged. I first called the gym. They told me, over the phone, it was no problem, my membership was cancelled. I got billed again. I called ABC Financial and they told me to contact the gym. I did. Again, they apologized and told me it was cancelled. I called ABC Financial again and was told that typically the membership has to be cancelled in writing. The worker said she would review the case, refer it to her supervisor to have the previous phone record transcribed. I believe I received a call back from her but was at work and unable to answer.
I called ABC financial back today and was told I owe 60+ dollars. That's my $40 membership fee plus a fee for missed payment. I had to close my bank account and open a new one so it would stop getting charged. I finally received the email that I've had to email to cancel. This could have been handled months ago if that is what I had been told. If this is not resolved, I will be forced to take legal action.

Beware of ABC Financial's fee of $19.99 for any time your debit card is declined. They put it in their contract but it's still abusive and unfair. They are expending nothing extra for running a computerized charge of your card and extra time but they want you to pay almost a fee that is 80% of your $25 monthly membership. It's price gouging, pure and simple. I understand a late fee. I even understand an extravagant late fee but paid on the day after it's due when you run it through again is sadistic.

The Edge Fitness and ABC Financial have no integrity whatsoever. I signed up for a 12-month membership knowing I was going to be moving to an apartment with a free gym before the 12 months expired. When I originally tried to cancel I was told that I could not do so. I called about four months later to find out the exact date I could cancel my membership at which point I was informed I had actually been enrolled in a 24-month agreement, without my knowledge, but that I could buy out the contract.
I was then told that, on top of the buyout fee, I would need to pay the next month's membership fee which happened to fall on a month where an additional $50 fee was charged. I asked if this could be waived as I have not been to the gym for over four months but of course I was advised that the company could not waive the fee. In essence, what I was told was that the company would prefer not to waive the fee because it would rather take more of my money that it did not deserve than do the right thing and correct its mistake. DO NOT JOIN THIS GYM.

I was suddenly relocated because of my job and attempted to cancel my membership several times. I initially was told to send in a letter stating I wanted to cancel so I did that, after moving I switched banks and payments continued to be attempted to be processed from my old account. I received phone calls from ABC and after the first conversation they told me I could just mail them the letter but I could not cancel over the phone which is insane. So I did that and still was bombarded by phone calls. After talking to someone again they told me that they couldn't process a cancellation at all. I can't believe a company is allow to pull this and just continue to charge me when I have begged to cancel. AT THIS POINT I AM GOING TO FILE A REPORT WITH THE BBB.

An annual charge for $39 was due on 9/1/18. The company had difficulty charging my card, but was successful on 9/12/18. In addition to the $39, there was a Late Fee of $9.50 and a Service Fee of $19.50 tacked on, making the total successful charge to my Credit Card $68.00. I don't feel I should be financially penalized for the company's difficulty. They obviously resolved it. A Grace Period is standard practice. On 9/15/18 they successfully charged my normal monthly fee.

I had been a faithful member of my gym since I joined in July 2017. In July 2018 I obtained a new job about 2.5 hrs away. I attempted to cancel in person on 7/5 and was told to call ABC Financial. I submitted my notice of cancellation, sent in a copy of my new lease and paid what I thought would be my last month’s membership on 7/10. I received a confirmation email and heard nothing else. When I checked my account status I saw that I was still going to be charged on 8/10. I called and the customer service rep said that she would remove my billing information and that I would not be charged as they looked to resolve what the issue was. Then I began receiving calls and texts from the gym about my unpaid balance and they began to call my wife (a non-member) as well.
When I finally emailed ABC Financial again (this time CCing the gym) on 8/21 the gym contacted ABC Financial for me to make sure that I received a response. When ABC Financial did respond I was told there was an issue with the attachment in the email I sent on 7/10. After resubmitting the proof that I had moved I was told that my date of cancellation would be registered as 8/22 and I was still responsible for the full payments from 8/10 and 9/10 as well as the cancellation fee rather than the charges I would have paid if my cancellation date would have been registered as 7/10. To make matters worse this also applies to my son who is an add-on to my membership.

The customer service reps with ABC Financial Services are unapologetic, do not follow up and sound like they read their responses from a textbook. I have a fitness membership and pay my dues with my debit card, automatically. ABC Financial Services handles the charges. I had my personal information stolen in April 2018. I had to cancel all debit/credit card information and complete new payment information for my gym membership. Because this paperwork happened when my monthly dues were to be charged, ABC automatically charged me a late fee (I pay religiously every month). I was not aware there was a 90 day window to dispute this charge - I noticed the additional charge in August 2018 (when our annual gym dues are charged; so I was looking back at previous charges).
I contacted the gym and they informed me all financial issues are to go through ABC Financial. I contacted them on 8/14/18 and spoke with Melinta (MEN) - she put me on/off hold for 20 minutes. She finally said she can look into it and follow up with me within 3-4 days. Fast forward to today (8/28/18). No one followed up with me. I contacted ABC Financial and spoke with Amanda. She said there were no follow up notes. She said there is nothing further she can do. I asked to speak with a supervisor - she transferred me to Jessica. Again, Jessica regurgitated their policy and said there is nothing more she can do. I asked why her company policy is not listed at the gym nor provided to us when late charges are incurred. She did not have a firm answer. I am appalled at the lack of interest for their customers, especially those who have been paying month-after-month, on time and have their personal information stolen.

I've tried to cancel my membership repeatedly now, I originally signed up for a One Year up-front cost agreement I got in the mail. (Boy was I wrong) That was April of 2017, I thought my membership expired April of 2018...like any normal person would, well it's now late August and have been getting charge this whole time which I did not notice because I use my credit card regularly. I work 55 hours a week therefore don't have the time or energy to go to the gym and didn't even think I had a membership anymore anyways. Well that's not the case with this company, since noticing the maintenance fee email I tried to cancel with ABC. They told me to go to my club, Aspire to cancel. Aspire said, “We can't cancel your membership because you have a balance on your account.”
Ok well, call ABC back and explain I was unaware of the automatic enrollment after the year ended and just was just asking if they could do me this favor and waive the maintenance club fee to bring me to Zero so I can just be on my way. That is not the case, the 2 customer service associates I talked to were basically repeating the same rebuttals one might find in a rolodex of ways to get off the phone and not do anything about it!! NO compassion, just simply pay us or we will just keep charging your account on file, which seems somewhat illegal to me. Capital One's dispute person was also on the line with me but ABC Didn't know that.
I'm now on my 3rd account number with Cap 1, yes 3rd account because ABC, and Aspire like to keep you running in circles so they can collect as many maintenance and club fees as possible. They make it seem like their contract is so binding that it will take an act of God to get out of...well maybe it's something the Feds need to look into because I'm in Ohio, I believe they are in Arkansas, and repeated unauthorized charges to a credit card no matter how much the amount I believe crosses the line into theft or some sort of fraudulent activity! I'm the consumer I haven't used their services yet they will not let me out of my 1 year contract I initially signed up for that expired back in April...proceed at your own risk, I just wonder how many others have experienced the same?

I was a member at EOS Gym for a few years, had no issues with this company until I wanted to cancel my membership. I called them to cancel on June 8th 2018 and was told it would take 30 days, for what I don't know, and I would have to pay the next month's dues and would have gym access until July 8th. I told the woman, "I have to pay for the next month even though I'm not going to be here to use it?" Since it was $9.99, I wasn't going to argue. I don't understand why the 30 day wait, so they can get a few more bucks out of you? This was June 2018, then I see a charge for $34.95 from them in August. WTH?? Right before I cancelled in June I just paid the 59.00 membership fee or whatever it is.
I called them and they had no record of me calling on my account. What company does that? I asked for the supervisor who was willing to help me, I'll give them that. She said she would have to pull up the recorded calls and listen to them to see what transpired. While she did manage to see there was a phone call, I pulled up my phone records and saw that I made 2 calls on June 8. How is it the 1st person could not see I called, but the supervisor can find it? I did get an email from them that they would refund my $34.95 and that's great, but why so much hassle?
I would not want to work for a company like that knowing these business practices affect people like this and second you couldn't pay me enough to work with all the complaints and tell someone there's no record of a call...I would be so embarrassed. One last thing, if a company sees all of these same complaints, why don't they stop with these business practices? One would think that if a company's integrity was in question, they would want to fix it. I guess a buck rules over good business practices. No more gym memberships for me.

Today I call my bank and they say they’re withdrawing 140 from my account??? How tf is this possible when they JUST told me they didn’t have my info and couldn’t withdraw if they wanted to??? Wtf??? ABC Financial told me that my contract automatically renews every year and that the I must provide a written Certified letter to them providing 30 day’s notice to cancel and further I would be responsible for the remaining term on the contract at 65% of the remaining months. They stated that if I had moved 10 miles away instead of 9, they could have let me out for free. This is the most ridiculous policy. The auto renew of the contract is a terrible way to conduct business as well. The original contract is one thing, but then auto renewing the contract further locking you into something you may or may not want. I’m furious right now.
Further, I spoke to a gentleman named Diego at ABC Financial and he lied to me stating he had called the Anytime Fitness that I was going to, and spoke with the manager there, that the manager is the only one who could help me. Diego told me to take it up with the club as they don’t handle any waivers to their policies. The reason I know he lied to me is that I’m at the club and nobody is there. Further I know the manager and he informed me that nobody from ABC Financial had reached out to him. I am so angry that they can just take our hard earned money like this. My wife and I requested our gym membership to be frozen in May, since we like to work out outside in the summer months. They said they could freeze it for 90 days, but that we'd have to pay one more month of membership dues before the freeze would start. Doesn't seem right, but fine. We did that. However, even after the "freeze" (which I was told usually you still pay a monthly fee to freeze) went into effect, we were charged each month. I emailed to inquire about this and the gym manager apologize and refunded the charges. The gym and manager itself are great - it's ABC Financial Services that's the monster in all these situations.
After the last time our accounts were charged within the 90-day "freeze", we were so upset we decided to cancel. Well, there's no easy way to do this except send ABC an email and pray they'll respond - which they didn't. So, when we were charged a THIRD time during this freeze - we'd had it. I called our bank to have the charge rejected and placed a 'stop' on any future payments to ABC. I emailed them again - explaining the entire history and why they wouldn't be seeing any more of our money.
Now that the money was being rejected by the bank, they finally got in touch with us. Even though they didn't acknowledge our first communication to cancel, they apparently received it. And of course, if you want to cancel (just like the freeze) they require one more month of payments in order to do so. Now, just to be done with them, we paid what's supposed to be our final fees. But it doesn't end there. They now want $20 per account in late fees from the charges our bank rejected.
To sum things up, we haven't set foot in our gym since May 1. It's now end of July (not even 3 full months) and we've been charged over $260 in dues and fees when all we were originally hoping for was to pause on payments until the fall. I'm fairly certain this isn't the end of our woes with ABC Financial. But I just wanted to carry the banner like so many others and let people know this is an absolutely CROOKED company that accepts new members instantly, but will charge you hundreds of dollars and draw things out over many months for more money - just to cancel. DO NOT SIGN UP AT A GYM WHERE ABC FINANCIAL IS HANDLING THE FINANCIALS.

Gold's Gym wasn't the highest priority but we needed to cancel the memberships since we were located in the next town over and by the time I get off work and make my way to the general area, pick up my disabled wife and then pick up my son from school there is no way I can make it all the way over to the Gold's Gyms in my area.
Anyone who lives in Houston understand the traffic can make a short distance turn into an hour's drive. It wasn't just the inconvenience of the situation, it was also the financial burden it added to our family. After losing our homes, my daughter's car being destroyed by a hit and run driver, my son's high school being destroyed and my daughter's college being destroyed too, we thought that any community based business would understand our plight and help us. Maybe even have a heart? That didn't happen. Gold's passed the buck over to the horrible company that have hired to harass and treat their customers like garbage. They are called ABC Financial and have since found them on the net for being shady rip-off artists.
A massive disaster that destroyed a large portion of a major city obviously wasn't a good enough excuse to get out of our contract and thankfully we called when we did because they were getting ready to renew our membership without even asking. Here is the real KICKER. The woman I talked to, Jasmine **, wouldn't even allow me to stop them from renewing my UNDERAGE SON'S membership. MY SON, who is 16 years old and is not old enough to be held accountable for these sorts of contracts. He was added as my son, he is underage, his entire account is linked to mine and my credit card pays his monthly fee. But Jasmine said that she would not stop the renewal of my son's account until he called and did the cancellation himself. This isn't even legal.
I am my son's legal guardian. I want to know how many other people have been taken advantage of by these companies especially people who are vulnerable after natural disasters, health problems, etc. and how many times they have tried to make a minor sign up for adult memberships. There is no way that is legal and is unethical. Not to mention, kicking your community when it's already down doesn't make me want to ever suggest their business to anyone, ever. I will tell them to run the other way. This is inexcusable and I want out of my contract. And I want my children let out as well. Consumer Protection at the Attorney General's office in Texas will be hearing about this shortly if it's not fixed. And if any of this mess touches my credit I will hire an attorney. Haven't we been through enough since Harvey?

I contacted my gym last month to cancel my membership only to be informed they can’t actually handle that themselves. They gave me a 1-800 number. Whenever I called them to cancel - surprise surprise - she couldn’t help me either. She gave me an email address to contact. I email the company - where she informs me that I have to pay 108? Why 108 you ask - for enhancement fees (which I won’t be using) and my membership fee (which has increased since I stopped my automatic draft).
Well a month later - I check my bank account - and they have withdrawn $127. What happened to the 108? And how are you still drafting from an account that I have written proof I said you no longer had permission to draft from? I have received numerous phone calls (all saved on my answering machine) requesting new card info for my membership. Which I canceled!!! Stay far away from this company - I am contacting an attorney. Funny thing is reading all these complaints - she said an email was adequate to cancel. Yet they are telling others it has to be certified. But no worries ABC - I have those saved as well. Hello Luis
Per the terms of your agreement you signed with The Edge Fitness, cancellations require a 30 day notice and you are responsible for any payments that fall within that timeframe. Therefore depending on when your request is sent, you may be required to make a final payment.

I moved from Ohio to Florida, I knew I was still in my 12-month contract with my gym so I called them after I moved. I knew I still had to pay what I had due for the 12 months and that was fine but was reassured when I called that my membership would be canceled after I moved. I wasn't and was still pulling from my account every month. Following that I tried to send my cancellation letter and that also never stopped it.
The only option I had left for them to stop taking money for a gym I wasn't even going to anymore was to stop the payment from my bank and now they are coming after me for the money I still owe them as they continue to charge me. So not only do they make the cancellation process absurdly difficult and annoying, when it doesn't work, you will still be charged every month. I have been in Florida almost a year now and I'm still being charged for my gym membership in Ohio. Do not use anything with ABC Financial. They obviously will take your money regardless if they have the authorization to do so or not.

Both my mom and I received harassing calls today letting us know we each owe 1,400 a piece. How?? If I sent the certified letter why are we still stuck in a contract that is now in collections. The lady that called was so beyond rude. She informed me it was going straight against our credit. I’m calling the Attorney General. This company is bogus. I went through the effort to create an account on this website just to make this review to warn people how AWFUL this company is! AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! I had no idea my gym would make me cancel through a third party (or that a 30 day notice was required), but turns out they sent me the email for this place when I had to cancel.
I was being harassed by one of the personal trainers at my gym and thus went to cancel my membership. I explained my reasoning yet this company responded with what seemed to be an automatic message (because I made multiple attempts at explaining why I need my membership cancelled ASAP) and the message was the same every time... "You must give 30 days notice before cancelling, therefore you will be billed until May 2." So, they still made me pay for an additional month despite the circumstances. I'm furious, mostly because the customer service was TERRIBLE. They took days to respond to my emails and were not willing to help at all but rather copy/pasted the same email back to me. I will make sure to never again join a gym that involves this company.

Lo and behold it is now April of 2018 and we are still being billed/charged for our memberships. I have called and left multiple messages with the gym and none of them have been returned. We have also sent a letter to the gym but have heard nothing back. I understand that ABC Financial is a mediary organization between me and the gym however they are ultimately taking my money. I never leave negative reviews unless the company is truly incompetent in following up with me about a problem and doesn't actually try to resolve the issue. After writing to Chicago Athletic Club about the letter in cancelling the membership, they requested that another email be sent, after charging me for additional 5 months since when I first initially contracted the gym (even though I never stepped foot in the gym ever again since that contact to cancel). Granted, ABC Financial was not the incompetent advisor and front desk staff at the gym but they have continuously failed to streamline or make any protocols to make the cancellation process understood. It's one thing to acknowledge that you won't take responsibility but it's really ruthless to continue to take advantage of customers took time after time. I will never join a gym membership because of this experience!

This company exists solely to shift responsibility from gyms and gym owners and vice versa. Their main protocol requires that you MAIL A LETTER to them and/or the gym where you are a member (most likely 30 days in advance -- which may or may not be told to you by the gym owner) so that you may cancel your membership. They will most likely still charge you that last payment, or, as I can see here, continue to charge you regardless. All I can say is that any organization like this, in 2018 no less, that requires you to physically mail a letter to them to cancel a simple gym membership is up to no good. You can even register online through their site to see all your information that you CANNOT change. So you can SEE your account online, unsuccessfully "manage" it, but in order to cancel it -- you must send a physical letter? Makes total sense. Avoid any gym that uses these card sharks as their payment processor.

How is it that I was overbilled for 6 months at $150 and they still want $50 to cancel the membership again and refused to cancel it until I paid the $50 when I have no contract with the gym. What a scam! So now I've paid them $200 for a gym membership that I haven't used in 7 months and should have been canceled in the first place. Stay away from any gym that uses this company! When I decided to move back to my home state of Michigan, I was assured by the manager of my gym that once I moved, I would be able to cancel the membership without any problems, because the location I was moving to was over 30 miles from any gyms. With this in mind, I moved back to Michigan. I have been back here since 1/13/18, and have been fighting to get my account closed since. This is a third party crooked company that handles billing accounts for gyms. I started an account with Gold's Gym back in October 2014, little did I know what a pain ABC Financial would be! When canceling, this company will do everything it can, not to hold onto your cancellation - They don't even give or email you a cancellation code! I spoke to a woman named Esmerelda yesterday from ABC Financial, as I saw I had a charge from their company on my bank statement. Even though I canceled over a year ago, she said they never got the cancellation request, she then redirected me to a non-working number to get in touch with a manager to cancel it.
Since that number she provided me did not work, I called the gym closest to me and called their manager. Of course, they gave me conflicting information and told me ABC Financial is supposed to cancel it, however, this kind of thing happens ALL THE TIME and as a result, they get calls from understandably angry customers. I spoke to the manager and he said he would do me a favor and cancel it, however, even though we are in 2017, he is unable to email me a confirmation of the cancellation.
So, I am taking it upon myself to go over there and to literally freaking screenshot of that dead-gum confirmation of cancellation off of their computer, just so I can send it to ABC Financial - just because, clearly the left-hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing. Oh yeah, and fair warning, they will also charge you a month after, because again, even though we live in 2017, they have archaic computer systems from the 90's and "can't process it until the month after". Just another way corporations screw the customers in this crazy, corporation governed country. I hope Gold's Gym loses customers. I honestly have no sympathy for any company that uses the services of ABC Financial!

If you're reading this review because your gym uses ABC Financial for payments, be very careful. This company has designed its partner relationships so that they're not required to send any membership data on things like cancellations. So the two entities essentially don't communicate. This way, they can continue to charge you until you notice (in spite of having gone in-person to cancel at your gym). Then when you call and email, they fill the air with "I'm sorry for the inconvenience" throughout bedrock-level customer service. Then once you they admit defeat and for a cancellation, they claim it's pending and takes 30 days so they can squeeze one more payment out of you. Honestly, gyms like Workout World should be ashamed for ever having partnered with ABC Financial as they are clearly thieves leveraging a broken system. Hopefully there's some kind of class action lawsuit in the future.

After nearly 2 years of paid membership, I decided to cancel since I wasn't using the gym (Become Fitness). I went to the gym in person and canceled my membership. Even though my monthly membership had JUST renewed, they refused to pro-rate it, so I paid for the entire month of September (something other subscription-based companies NEVER do. They ALWAYS pro-rate). Then I was told their printers "weren't working" so they couldn't give me a copy of the cancellation - so I asked them to give me the original copy because I needed proof of the cancellation. That was September 6th. It's now over 2 months later and after emailing a scanned copy of the cancellation THREE times, they still claim my membership was never cancelled.
The staff is completely irresponsible and incompetent OR they are trained to conduct dishonest business practices on purpose, hoping to extort as much money as possibly from people who are too busy or weak to fight back. My credit card company already processed the charge reversal after I sent them a copy of the signed cancellation. It's there in black & white. Why can't the company themselves see that the cancellation was done 2 months ago? Because they're dishonest. This company should be fined or shut down.P. S. The only thing you can do is refuse to do business with companies that have ABC Financial as part of their billing. I love Anytime Fitness, but have been financially taken advantage of by ABC. I was being charged a $19.99 fee on my credit card in addition to my club membership for several months and didn't realize it.
They were taking money out of my account without my knowledge which is just extremely dishonest in my opinion. At least provide a WRITTEN NOTICE of any additional charges and what reason. I was a member at Anytime Fitness and wanted to cancel my contract. I had two brain surgeries, very expensive, within a year and thought it was wasteful to continue the membership when I was unable to use it and really could no longer afford it. After being told at the gym I had to cancel using ABC financial I called and the customer service agent told me about the freeze option and that I could cancel anytime I wanted within the next three months. What they did not tell me is if you cancel while you're on the freeze you pay for that month because you did not give a 30-day notice.
This company is shady and scams people out of their money and it should be illegal. So, no matter if you decided to go on a "freeze" they still get one more payment out of you. Just cancel your membership. Don't let them trick you with the freeze option. It benefits no one but them. It's unfortunate that you have to give even one star to post, there should be an option to give a negative rating.

Last year, ABC Financial called me and left a voicemail telling me that they had "great news" about my account. I called back and it turned out they were being deliberately deceptive because they wanted to collect on my annual fee (even though I had been told I didn't have to pay any fees while I was away). I had received no previous notices and they still charged me late fees and collected on top of my annual fee. This year I received the same call, using the same deceptive tactics! After logging in online I was directed to e-mail or call the same number that had already told me I could not cancel by phone.
After several attempts to cancel I also found out it would take a full 30 days to cancel my membership and I would continue to be responsible for charges in the meantime. I have emailed them asking to stop and am waiting to hear back, but several co-workers told me they had a very difficult time cancelling so I am not hopeful. I have never experienced a service so difficult to end and that would continue charging me after I cancelled services. My husband and I signed up for a gym membership through Anytime Fitness and when doing so they never mentioned that their billing is completed through another party called ABC Financial. My problems began after I had a change in jobs and my new job pays 2 times a month and my pay day was on the day my dues are collected. I started getting notices and phone calls from ABC Financial stating that my payment was declined. I was being charged OVER $40 in "Services Charges" WHICH IS RIDICULOUS, I have NEVER dealt with a company that charges such high fees... which are almost more than my membership!!
FINALLY after multiple months of being charged numerous so called service charges each month I figured out that they were trying to collect my payment at 1 or 2 in the morning and my payment doesn't go through until around 7 am. I had called multiple times about the service charges because there was money in my account but they kept saying my card was declined.
This month when I figured out what they were doing to cause the decline the service rep said everything would be taken care of and she would refund me for the service charges I had paid for over the past months. I did get a refund but the amount that was left on my account was never taken off and then I started receiving notices that my card was declined when my payment wasn't due for another 3 weeks. Therefore I had to call them AGAIN and ask why the balance was still on my account and why they tried to deduct money from my card and added another service charge... when I do not owe anything and my payment isn't due.
After having to ask for a Supervisor because the initial customer service rep kept telling me amounts I had paid that weren't correct. So basically after talking to the supervisor all they would do is take off the service charge for when they tried to take money out... When they weren't supposed to and said I still owe what left on my account. I will NEVER go to another gym that uses ABC Financial for their billing... This is RIDICULOUS. I work for a lawyer as a legal assistant and I will be asking him to look into this. SOMEONE HAS TO DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE ETHICS OF THIS COMPANY!!

They obviously got the letters since they cashed the checks (2) and only my husband gets a confirmation email he was cancelled. I call, they tell me to send another letter. I comply again including proof of cancelled check.
I then get another monthly payment deducted. They deduct cancellation fee from my card. I call them and they said yes they took the fee from card and found the check and that they do owe me $100. NEVER GOT THE $100 they stole from me. Took almost two months to cancel because of both gold's and ABC financial. Now my husband and I always ask if ABC is the company a business uses. As a promotion, when I renewed my membership, I was given 2 free months to my 12 month membership. My receipt specifies my membership is paid thru 12-16-16. I paid IN FULL with CASH for a 1 year renewal. I started receiving a late notice in May from ABC saying no credit card on file, they were wanting to charge me twice a year for a gym enhancement fee but they could not because I paid cash.
I called Anytime Corporate, I was not required to pay it because I was grandfathered in on my original contract which did not require this extra fee. I told my gym manager 5-6 months before my membership expired I would be joining the Y and not renewing at the end of my membership. I started receiving emails from ABC in Nov that my membership was up in October and I was delinquent paying gym dues. I emailed a picture of my receipt SHOWING my membership was paid thru 12-16-16.

My doctor advised me to quit Charter Fitness and join a gym with a swimming pool because of my medical condition. I spoke with ABC Financial back in May to advise them. They said I would have to submit a letter from my doctor in order to cancel but I didn't want to pay my deductible so I thought it would be cheaper just to wait a few months until my membership was over. They told me I could write a letter, go into a Charter Fitness, or send a certified letter. I wrote a letter to cancel which they never received because my account was charged.
I called and spoke with another agent. She invited me to go into Charter Fitness so I went on my lunch break but they advise me that I could not cancel because it was not the gym I signed up at. I called back, spoke to another agent, advise them that the previous agent didn't tell me that I had to go to a specific Charter Fitness. That agent advised me just to send a certified letter and she apologized for my troubles. I sent the certified letter but the agent failed to tell me that they will continue to charge me. They charged me $40 renewal fee + $19.95 monthly fee. After they finally received my certified letter they charge me another monthly fee.
I emailed their customer service team and they replied they couldn't do anything because it was in my contract. This company's main goal is to get money out of people. I did my due diligence in following their instructions, but they didn't seem to care at all. If all you have to do to sign up is go online go into a facility then they should also make it easy for you to cancel.

I joined my local Anytime Fitness in the summer of 2013. No one told me that billing was done through a separate company, though that could be typed in fine print on the contract somewhere. Well, at the end of 2015, I realized that I hadn't been going to the gym much, so I figured I'd stop the auto-renewal feature before the new year. I went to the gym, where they told me I had to contact ABC Financial and gave me their phone number. I called that afternoon, and after being on hold for over 30 minutes, I gave up.
A few days later, I called again, and the same thing happened - nothing but hold music. I emailed Anytime Fitness, to no avail, they never responded. Calling the gym made no difference, they just said I had to take care of billing with ABC Financial. So, I tried calling ABC again and - surprise! - I wait 40+ minutes and never speak with a real person.
I ended up closing my checking account, which seems to be the only way to get a response from ABC. They emailed me about updating my billing information, and provided a link to myiclubonline[dot]com. I didn't remember making an account on that website, but when I entered my agreement number, I was told that there was already an account associated with that number. So, I set about trying to retrieve my user name and password.
I requested that info be sent to the email address I gave to Anytime Fitness, and waited. And waited. And waited and waited. No email came, there was nothing in any of my folders or with the spam. So, I made another request for my information. Again, nothing came. So I thought, maybe I used my other email address when I signed up, and requested my user name be sent to that email address. And still, nothing.
I haven't even spoken with an ABC representative, I can't imagine how much more frustrating and enraging the rest of this process is going to be. All I know is that I am not paying another penny to Anytime or ABC, considering I haven't even been to the gym in at least 6 months. Gym memberships are a scam, and I'll never fall for this trick again. I'll be sure to update this review when I finally speak to an ABC representative.

Full disclosure, I work in customer service/sales. I know how to speak to others in my field but even I lost my cool on this one. I signed up for Gold's about a year ago. It was a discounted program through my work and I just wasn't going. I called Gold's to cancel and they explained I would have to go through ABC via a mailed letter. I also had to pay for postage on this letter and go physically into the facility to obtain the letter. No problem. I did this and eagerly awaited confirmation. This was on 9/7, I received a letter (posted from them on 9/16) on 9/22.It showed a new balance of $68.99 but it wasn't labeled as a "cancellation fee". There was a line, however, that said "total due to cancel" with the same amount next to it.
Frustrated for having to pay for a month I didn't need as it was, I called. I do not remember the gentleman's name but things started out fine. I explained my situation and he explained that it was for the month of October + an annual fee. Confusion arose since I asked multiple times while on the phone with Gold's if there would be any fees (to cancel or otherwise) and they said absolutely not. I explained this to the gentleman and also voiced my frustrations at having no easy way to cancel. The guy on the phone said "well why didn't you just use the e-mail address we provide?"
And then I saw red. Not at any point did Gold's provide an e-mail to make all of this easier and avoid idiotic fees. I explained to the gentleman that I was not mad at him but felt like Gold's should have given the contact e-mail to make my life easier. I asked if there was a way to waive the annual fee and I would just pay the month (even though if I would have had an e-mail, I wouldn't have had to pay the month either). He kept on saying "I'm sorry you feel that way" whenever I voiced concern/frustration.
This is the way you should be speaking to someone but he never offered to see what he could do, saying I signed a contract etc. I kept on trying to explain that yes, I realized that, but I was never provided an e-mail which would have made all of this easier and would have prevented me from paying $70. I explained that I appreciated his help, reiterated I wasn't upset with him, but that there had to be something or I would dispute the charges based on Gold's purposely not giving me access to this e-mail. I kept on begging and he kept on saying "sorry you feel that way" so finally I was like "well, I'm just going to dispute the charge."
And that was when he said this: "Yes Ms. **, I'm well aware of your mission." It was sarcastic and rude. Completely uncalled for. What should have happened is he should have offered to put me on the phone with his supervisor or offered to waive the annual fee. I wasn't asking for the entire $70 to be waived, just the fee. I said, "excuse me? That is not how you speak to someone." That was the only time I got upset with the actual agent because, at the end of the day, this is the Gold's by me's fault, not his, but no matter how stressed out a customer is (especially when they keep letting you know that they are not mad at you, but rather the situation) you do not speak to them that way. Very disappointed and still planning on disputing the charge unless ABC is willing to waive the annual fee.

They double billed me, once to my credit card and once to my checking account, for several months. This started when I transferred my Peak Fitness membership to Fitness Connection a few years after Fitness Connection acquired Peak. Every time I ask them to take care of it, I am told they will resolve the issue but they never do. I will be meeting with an attorney soon and plan to litigate because I have exhausted other options, even having the NC Attorney General contact Fitness Connection for a resolution. It's very frustrating, will make me think twice about ever joining a gym again.

I don't understand how a "business" such as ABC Financial could have lasted so long. They are clearly just out for your money and do not have the decency to tell you that you will be charged with a $19.50 service fee, $9.50 late fee, and your club membership after that. I can understand a $5 late fee but $19.50? That's ridiculous. ABC Financial needs to change the way they deal with their customers or be hit with a lawsuit to bring some sense to their business model. It's sad to see so many clubs use ABC for their financial services and I do hope a drastic change happens.

ABC Financial operates like a cult essentially making it virtually impossible for them to stop deducting monies from your account. Even a year after I had my bank put a stop to their unauthorized deductions on my account they still call, email and harass trying to get money from my bank. What you absolutely have to do to get these scammers off of your back is to go to your bank and tell your bank you do NOT authorize them to deduct any monies.
Even if you send certified mail, they will state they never received it, even if you have the receipt to prove their receipt of your letter. If you send via email, they will also state they never received it, even if you copy yourself in the email showing you received the very same email sent. ABC Financial is NOT a BBB company so it won't do any good to file a complaint with BBB. File reviews like this one on every website you can to get the news out. The gym itself is good. The problem is the company they use for their billing.

My son went into his fitness anytime last August and said he was moving to college and to discontinue his membership. They said ok. Then continued to get bills on credit card statements. Three calls later through December they continued to bill even though they said they would not. On the phone today and they would not cancel my card! Even though it was mine and not his. Got to a supervisor and she had the memorized speech about how to cancel. I explained that it was MY card and I was asking her to not bill it. Told her I saw tons of reviews on here that were saying they were a SCAM. She didn't care. She wanted to talk to him. How the heck would she even know that it was him when I got him on the line? She finally cancelled my card but said that they would continue to bill him and turn him over to a collection agency. This happened to my oldest son years ago with the same company. They drain your card for as long as they can. VERY frustrating.

So when I signed up in 2011 I mentioned to them about being in the military. I ask about when I leave for a long period of time what I could do about my account. She indicated that I just have to bring in my orders and they would put a freeze on my account. Of course this didn't happen. I was gone for four months and come back and charged for the entire period. So upset at this moment. ABC Financial so clearly indicated that they DON'T care about military. Just read the fine print before joining. Can't anyone be trusted anymore!

I've been a member at my gym for over a year now. ABC Financial Services is their billing company. I ran into some financial hardships a few months ago and knew I couldn't afford a gym membership for that month, so my payments were declined. I thought they wouldn't try to bill me again. I was wrong. Warning: Don't think they won't stop trying to bill you just because they were unable to the first time. They will keep trying to bill your card until they get their money from you, even if it takes WEEKS!
I have a printout of the billing. Instead of trying once to bill me, they tried to bill me 6 different times over a period of 14 DAYS until they got their money. Is that even legal? Can companies put a payment request on your card this many times until they are paid? There is something very wrong with that. If you can't pay, you can't pay and services should be stopped. They shouldn't be allowed to initiate a charge on your card more than a couple of times, or even once. They also tacked on a $9.50 late fee. How nice.
And of course, their cancellation policy is prehistoric. They want you to write them a certified letter of cancellation, which takes time and is complete and utter **. This isn't 1998. People use the internet to cancel and subscribe to everything. But they probably know people will be too lazy to want to write a certified cancellation letter. People's indolence keeps them profitable. Who wants to write a ** certified letter? And they want a friggin' DOCTOR'S NOTE in some cases?? Are you freaking kidding me???
That's like a bank demanding you show them your tax return before you close your account with them. What the hell kind of crap is that? Easy. They are greedy ** who don't want customer's free choice to leave. If they were upstanding and good business people, they would make it easy to cancel a membership, as in, having a link on their website. What a bunch of unethical jerkoffs.
It looks like the best and fastest way to get out of them charging your card is to cancel the card itself. It is inconvenient, but will save you the headache of having them bill you days and weeks later, and will also save you from writing a certified cancellation letter which they probably won't honor anyway, judging from the reviews written thus far. Cancelling your card is the best way to avoid dealing with ABC. They will get NONE of your money then. From the overabundance of negative reviews for this company, it looks like they just don't care about you as long as they get their money. I am going to submit a complaint to some of the agencies another reviewer left for us. Maybe someone in the legal sphere will help get their attention.

Is the customer service representative at ABC Financial a robot? Because they answer to all these complaints from year after year the same way on all these forums! ABC Financial you are giving all the gyms you represent a bad name!!! Gym companies should be taking notes and discontinue partnering with such a company! I know of 100's of billing companies who will put the customer first and who would put ABC out of business faster than they charge honest people's credit cards for useless service/late fees (which is usually 1.5 the amount of one month's membership fee). Here is the correct answer... Just let people EASILY cancel their gym membership and pay off what they owe instead of charging them hundreds and thousands of dollars for your useless billing service!
Plus the people in charge of signing people up for these memberships do not even have standardized signup procedures or inform anybody about your cancellation policies or even that they are affiliated with you until we try to cancel our membership AFTER we signed up. Pretty shady if not ** up I would say. Signing up for a membership was pretty quick about 10 mins, but canceling will take a lifetime. I've even heard of them still charging dead people! What is it that ABC financial does anyway besides make healthy fit people stress out about you taking their hard earned money and in turn making them unhealthy? Ironic, huh! You guys need to get a real job instead of robbing those who have one! Wait let me guess... Your turn, Stephanie. Or should I answer for her?
WE ALL WANT OUR MONEY BACK NOW! Forget filing a complaint with the BBB which I have, but I have also informed my states Attorney General about your business practices and they will be examining the evidence in this case against ABC financial! I suggest anyone who has been in my shoes and had a horrific experience with ABC financial be on the look out for a class action law suit settlement commercial! Maybe you should've just let people cancel those memberships!

My fiancé and I had signed up for a membership in May 2015 with Experience Fitness. They didn't pull any charges whatsoever out of our account and then suddenly they would pull out like $120 at a time when we were supposed to pay $50 a month consistently. We tried to call them but couldn't go through their confusing disastrous automated systems, so we stopped bothering. They didn't charge me for two months and suddenly, tonight, I realized that today they pulled out $238!?!
First of all, where did that number come from? The most we owe them for two months is $100. Second of all, I had just put enough money into my checking account for my rent, and now they took this money out when I have a check coming through today which is going to cause my account to overdraft and I'll have to pay non-refundable fees. The charges are unexplained and completely unwarranted. They just take out whatever amounts of money whenever they want and it's scary. This company is BS. BEWARE!!!

Jacksonville, NC On Nov 5th, 2015. I urge, really urge, anyone having problems with ABC Financial Services of Sherwood, AR to read what I am about to say. First of all, I urge anyone with a problem with this company to contact the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau in Iowa City, Iowa, at 855-411-2372 and start the process of filing a complaint against ABC Financial Services. There are many divisions within this Federal Agency to help you. Example is credit cards. Next, file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau of Arkansas. Telephone number is 501-664-7274, FAX 501-664-0024. Have the Better Business Bureau of Arkansas to email you a complaint form which you will have to fill out.
When you return that form, be sure to attach all the information you can! Now said that, my problem with ABC Financial is that they are demanding that my Physician send to them on letterhead letter, explaining my physical condition and a recovery status in detail. My physician, at my request, did send (FAX) a letter headed letter to ABC Financial Services, but it only contained minor information. The reason that this letter from my physician contain only minor information is for the following reasons. First of all ABC Financial Services is not a health provider!! By their own admittance (see their web site), they are a leading software and billing provider for the fitness industry!!
Thus ABC Financial Services are circumventing the Federal HIPAA Privacy Rules set forth to protect individual such as myself. One of the main privacy protection rules state and I quote "Individual identifiable health information, which relates to individuals past, present and future" end quote. What this really means that it is illegal for ABC Financial Services to ask or demand of a physician or the club member to explain a condition of his or her health without a HIPPA document signed by the patient or club member, and released that information to ABC Financial Services without the patient's approval!! It's time to stand up folks to these suspected fraudulent schemes of ABC Financial Services.

My Bluebird card was NOT given to them under any circumstances and apparently starting on September 23rd, I got double charged 21.70 x2 on my Amex card (when they don't ACCEPT Amex) and I also got double charged on October 17th for another 21.70 x2.
First off, how the HELL did you guys get my Amex card when Planet Fitness's systems wouldn't even ACCEPT Amex as a charge payment? I never gave you my card info, this is ridiculous. Second off, company is a complete fraud and should have been shut down by now, probably hacking people's personal and secure information just to get their other credit cards to charge bills with? Many many poor reviews regarding ABC Financial and they are accurate to say the least. I joined Experience Fitness in December of 2011, last used the club in January of 2012 and cancelled the membership in June of 2012. I will take responsibility for not looking more closely at my billing statements on my charge card, but I truly thought there was a bit more honor in a company having permission to bill one's charge card monthly. September of 2015, the bomb dropped with me noticing there was a huge problem with this unwanted gym membership for over three years. I immediately called my charge card company, they were great to work with. The informed me that they couldn't cancel the membership for me but could get ABC financial on the call with me and sort thru this mess. ABC financial got on the phone with a three-way call in place.
I informed them that there were $39 overdraft charges on my charge card, ABC stated that there were insufficient funds to draw from, therefore there was that additional large charge. Capital One informed ABC Financial that my charge card always has more than enough credit limit for a monthly $10 fee. FYI, overdraft fees on credit cards don't even exist in the real world!! There are more than 7 of those charges in itself. Capital One said they can cancel the card immediately and send me a new one. ABC Financial replied that if that happens they will then send any monthly billing to collections on me.
After reading the above reviews I then recalled a couple of years ago that the charge card I gave them expired and they were trying to get my new card information. Magically ABC Financial found a new credit card of mine and once again billing me for a membership I did not want. I located the original contract and the charge card number that I initially gave Experience Fitness/ ABC Financial was not the same credit card number or card that they had been billing me for the past two years or more. ABC Financial somehow found a credit card of mine from somewhere else and began billing me again.
My charge card company is launching an investigation dating back to June of 2012 for reimbursement. Writing this poor review is not enough, ABC Financial needs to be put out of business. People need to get together and find out the principle owner(s) and take them to task. I may be out several hundreds of dollars, I am not the only one, ABC Financial is a fraudulent company to say the least!!

They never tell you who they are partner with about the monthly payment. I found out when I was ready to cancel the membership. Then a real hassle started. I call ABC and they told me I have to write handwritten notice and they will take action once they get the application and I would have to pay 2 more month before they can take action. I had to call customer service several time before it was taken. OVERALL IT WAS very, very frustrating. If you ever going with this company make sure you read the other reviews that people have left. Fees are typically done to discourage some kind of problematic behavior from consumers. However, this company AUTOMATICALLY charges a $19 fee if your credit card is declined. A card being declined does not incur a fee from the credit card processing company, and this is the first time I've seen a charge like this. Found out today that my credit card was marked for fraud and, consequently, the number was changed - this happens all the time and is completely out with the consumer's control. Further, this could happen at any time, including just before the charge is made, so this is out with my control. Unfortunately, my gym Anytime Fitness (which is great apart from this), contracted with this company to provide third-party billing services, so I have to deal with them. Ultimately, this was a poor choice made by Anytime Fitness.

I go to my bank account and see not only do I have a negative balance but behold my gym has double charged me my monthly fee. On top of it, I now have an overdraft fee. So I'm pissed. I call my gym and they refer me to contact ABC Financial who is responsible for the payments. So okay, I call them. Spoke with a lady. I don't recall her name. She didn't sound at all happy to be at her job by the way. She states that she sees the issue and apologizes, no problem. Says that she has issued a refund and it will take 3-5 business days for it to be in my account. Okay.
So I contact my bank. My bank then tells me that despite the fees being a mistake and going back into my account my overdraft fee will still be there.. So now I'm really pissed off. My bank tells me that the person issuing a refund will now have to send a fax stating that they were issuing a refund and that it was a double charge. Easy right, just a piece of paper so that my bank fixes the issue. No, I get told by the new lady I speak with that they shouldn't have issued a refund period, April was her name who by the way even said it wasn't their fault but mine.. SERIOUSLY. YOUR FLIPPING COMPANY DOUBLE CHARGED ME. Who in the heck, is that my fault??
I work in customer service and have been in this business since I was 16. If I for one saw any of my employees acting this way to someone who calls in, they would be fired. No questions asked. Who acts this way to a customer. I wasn't nasty nor was I mean till she flat out said it was my fault.. WHO DOES THAT? Point being, even if the customer was the one who screwed up, you don't ever treat a customer this way. It sends a super bad message about your company that you could care less about your customers.
At that point I had it with April. I wanted to speak to someone above her, her boss because I know how the whole system works in a call center. I did that whole thing with Geek Squad. Newsflash, the supervisor you're speaking with is just someone who got bumped up from the floor to listen to calls and handle escalations. They have no real power. April was a supervisor. REALLY poor choice in putting her in that position. She even outright said that the first lady who I called the first time shouldn't have issued a refund because all they do is handle billing like payments not refunds.
SERIOUSLY. You guys can take money when you're not supposed to but when you get caught with your hand in the damn cookie jar you won't fix your mistake? COME ON. The woman that April put me on hold with, for 10 minutes by the way, was nice. She would be the only at this point who has been at all helpful. I informed her that my bank required some sort of letter stating that it was their fault that I was double charged so that I could be refunded my overdraft charge(s). Charge is now plural because it seems that now I'm quoted 7-10 business days to issue a refund.
WAIT!! How did I suddenly get from 3-5 business days to 7-10. SERIOUSLY. It doesn't take that long electronically to issue a refund. You guys can take the money no problems, really fast, but having to fix your mistake you want to now take almost 2 weeks. HELL NO, THAT ** ISN'T GOING TO FLY WITH ME. So I call my bank back to inform them that the woman I spoke with is drafting a response to fax to them stating that it was their error that caused this. With the dates that I was double charged for.
My bank then tells me that until I'm refunded, that I will still have the overdraft fee, and will incur more until I don’t have a negative balance. WELL, SCREW ME SOME MORE WHY DON'T YOU. This by far worse than any nightmare that I've had. I call back my gym who was nice to start with, who informs me that it just so convenient that all of their managers for the Houston and surrounding areas are in a big meeting. SERIOUSLY. It's not that I don't believe her because GM's do have meetings but why during this time. Why am I getting seriously screwed here, and I'm not even enjoying it.
Well, my gym has put my issue for the GM on the top of the list. I also had to inform her that ABC Financial, despite them being the billing department, they told me that they don't issue refunds there. WTF on that one again. The woman at the gym was like, “then why are they billing if they don't issue refunds.” That's what I said - SCREAMING IN MY HEAD AT THIS POINT, READY TO PUNCH SOMEONE. So now I have to wait to see if this so called drafted letter even happens today. Which they are supposed to send me a copy to my email. If this doesn't get taken care of by this shady company, who has so many negative reviews it's beyond me how they are still in business. I'm going to be pissed beyond anything..

This company practices egregious customer services. I have had problems with them in the past and I was hesitant to join a gym again because of ABC's dubious practices. Basically, they make it nearly impossible to cancel your membership the first try. You wind up with a month or two of membership dues and some fees piled on after you think you have cancelled. So, here's what happened this time. I went to the gym and canceled my membership. I called the number provided on the cancellation slip and I mailed the cancellation request to ABC Financial. That's where I went wrong. I did not send it certified mail.
When I spoke to a customer service rep today, upon hearing that I owed Workout World and ABC Financial 40-plus dollars for nothing... I was told I "shoulda emailed it" even though I was not provided with an email address or given that option when I was canceling. The customer service reps are clearly adept at handling phone calls from irate customers... because they are expecting them and they KNOW that if you don't fork over some money, your credit score will be affected. So they got me again. Don't let them get you. Email them, send the paper certified mail, and keep an electronic scan of that cancellation request. Absolute thiefs with no regard for good business practice or customer service.
