When I went to get my eyes examined, they were precise but wanted me to do the tests for macular degeneration and glaucoma, which they charged for. After picking out my 2-for-1 frames for $69.95 after their consultation, the price went up to about $297.00 because I needed bi-focal lenses. When I asked about getting transition lenses, the guy said that would be an extra $300.00 and I would need glass lenses then; so obviously I opted out of that. When I went back 2 weeks later to get my glasses, they weren't made correctly. There were no bi-focals in them at all. They just said it would take time for my eyes to adjust to the new lenses, but in fact the reason was that the bi-focal part was missing.
I don't drive and can't always find a ride to the America's Best which is almost 100 miles away. I'm tired of these cheap rip-off places who don't know how to correctly make a pair of glasses. Previously in another state I went to an America's Best and when I picked up my glasses there they originally had the lenses in incorrectly, but switched them there. That worked but when I complained about my glasses not getting darker outside (I had paid for photo-gray), they said it was sunny out and it takes time for the adjustment to occur. Two weeks later when I went back and said my glasses still never changed and requested a refund for that amount, they just said they put it in there and there was nothing they could do about it unless I wanted to order new glasses. I'll never be going back to America's Best again. They are just incompetent in their business practices and it doesn't seem to matter which one you go to in which state. You get what you pay for!

My wife and I stopped by our local America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses to get her some new frames/lenses. Michelle made an appointment for my wife for an eye exam later that afternoon. She (Michelle) then, after looking at my wife's current frames/lenses to see what she already had, went through the options for what my wife wanted and pointed us toward the rack of 2 pairs for $69.95 frames. She quoted us a price for everything of $375. We looked at frames and picked out several options. When we returned for her appointment, my wife went through the exam and then we sat down with Kelsi to finalize things.
When Kelsi added things up, the price had now jumped to $497! When we complained about what felt to us like the old "bait and switch," Kelsi's response was (after apologizing for the mix-up), "Well, I wasn't there when you spoke to Michelle so I don't know what she quoted you and she didn't leave anything written down, so the price I've given you is what it is. I don't see how it could be any cheaper." After going back and forth for several minutes, we finally decided to just pay for the exam (which had now gone from free to $60) and cut our losses. We will never go back there again and would not recommend it to anyone!

I was happy with the doctors who performed my exams, although, three trips to finalize my contact lens prescription was a little too much. I also had to pick up additional demo lenses, which were incorrect. For the most part, I could have dealt with that; the problems really started when I tried to refill my Rx with dailies as opposed to one-week lenses. The uncertified technician, Lucia **, had no authority to deny my renewal requests. I never received a copy of my Rx either. I cannot believe the time and energy wasted because of this woman's power trip.
I wrote a letter to the general counsel, the registered agent for the optical practice, the doctors themselves and the Largo Store manager. I included a copy of Florida's Administrative Code regarding Rx and requested an explanation and a copy of the Rx, a copy of the HIPAA form I signed that authorized this employee of America's Best the authority to deny my refill requests and a copy of the doctors' records denying my requests. I got nothing.
So, I finally threatened to file complaints with the Federal Trade Commission, Florida Secretary of State, Florida's Medical Quality Assurance and the Board of Optometry. While a campaign donation might curtail the Secretary of State, the FTC doesn't go away, nor does a HIPAA violation. Within a matter of minutes, my prescription was approved. I will say my problems were with one overzealous, self-important witch who was ignorant of state and federal rules and regulations.

They advertise that frames are $67 and you get a free exam but after they add in all the charges to make the glasses, they make their money back. I couldn't get any pair without spending $300. It's under false pretenses that you think you can get a bargain but in reality they rip you off once you get there. In addition, the quality of work was poor, lenses keep falling out so going to America Best is not a great deal for high cost and poor quality.

I recently went in to pick up my trial contacts. Again for the fourth time, they didn't order them after my visit two weeks ago. This location has the worst follow up and customer service ever. I asked for the manager and she couldn't provide an answer on why, again my contacts were not ordered. I followed up with the district manager and she sounded like she could care less of my complaint. Don't waste your time or trust in your eye care to these idiots.

When I went in to get a refund and purchase new contacts the money for the purchase was taken from my account then but the refund might take 3-5 business days to go to my account. I tried talking to the store and they couldn't do anything. And, there is no 24/7 customer service. Although the people at the store are nice and helpful I suggest you find another place to go.

When in they had a sign up that said $59.95. After I picked out frames, they said $119.95. They said the sale was over ... I protested, got nowhere. Called the home office. They said they would honor the glasses. After a month when I WENT OUT THERE BECAUSE NO ONE CALLED, they had glasses not what I ordered. After waiting so long I had to take them. Spoke back with their customer service. Said all they would do is give me a full refund. I explained I was already without glasses for a long time I could not wait. Basically I'm stuck with these... Never ever again, it was either all or nothing.

Before going to America's Best, I read postings here. Not very encouraging so I read about all the other major eyeglass providers. Guess what, the complaints were interchangeable. America's Best no better or worse than any of the others. All things being equal, I went to America's Best. It was just down the road. First, the appointment setting online looks good but in reality it is meaningless. Pick any day or time on the internet and you can make an appointment. It's fake, don't bother, just go into the store. Ok, not the worst thing in the world. I didn't have to wait long to have my eyes examined.
First thing I noticed when I entered the exam room was the right arm rest of the chair I was to sit in has a large rip in it. I was asked if I wanted the glaucoma test and it was explained there is a $15 charge for it. I okay'd that. The little puff of air was quite strong. Way more than I've experienced during other exams at other places. This told me the equipment was outdated. I survived but my thrill factor is going down. I opted for progressive lenses, anti-glare coating and transition lenses. Pretty much a lot. The price for the frames was 60 dollars and the total for everything was about $400 dollars. A little more than I paid at Target three years before. Glare seems the same but how would one know if the glasses really have it?
I'm not completely pleased with the progression of lenses either, and I feel like the prescription is off by a percent or two. Not enough to take them back. I've decided I'll just go somewhere else in a couple years. I wouldn't give them one star, four or five is too many so I'll settle on three. Would I recommend them considering the equipment is old and the resulting prescription is not a 100%? Of course not. My experience and results isn't the end of the world, just the end of my going back to them. My recommendation is go to Target. There I had 100% satisfaction. For the life of me I don't know why I didn't go back to them but no question that's my next stop.

I contacted company and scheduled appointment for 2:45pm and was told to arrive 15 minutes early for paperwork. I arrived at 2:10 to look at eyeglasses and pick out my choices. Upon arrival, I was greeted with a HI and then I proceeded to tell them I had an appointment at 2:45. They then said the eye doctor is out to lunch and wouldn't return till 3pm. I then seen the doctor walk out of the establishment minutes later. I did not receive any assistance in looking at the glasses or even a sales person ask me. At 2:50 I was called back for initial eye check where the woman smelled of cigarettes and was asked to sign a form that the doctor suggested the test be done but for an extra cost that was not once brought to my attention during my appointment call or by the ladies in the sales area. The time passed to 3:10pm and still waiting (20 min) and no sight of the doctor.
I proceeded to ask when he would be there and with an attitude one of the sales ladies said 10 more minutes. I was called in his office at 3:30 a total waiting time of 40 minutes. The doctor started the eye exam but seems he was already telling me what was wrong within 30 seconds into my eye exam which only took 2 minutes. When I walked out I was unhappy with the minimal time seeing the doctor I decided not to purchase glasses. The sales lady seem to have an attitude when I told her my decision and was very rude. This store in Columbus Georgia was very unprofessional from the time I arrived until the time I walked out.

I was attracted to America's Best because of TV Ad. Took my son who has special needs using my husband's company plan. Was told by the Insurance company on phone that day that we would not have to pay for frames or lenses under our plan if we chose among the ones allowed on plan. Waited for over an 1-1/2 hrs to finally get to pick glasses. I immediately asked if these were frames approved for our insurance and woman said "Yes." However, she insisted that we get some sort of polylight carbon lenses, glare resistant and warranty agreement. Keep in mind it should not have cost us anything! She filled out the receipt then handed me something to sign which was separate. When I began to quickly read the contents she immediately stated that it was the receipt for insurance company. (later I realized that she had me agree to pay what the insurance company did not pay) I have a feeling the receipts were totally different from each other. The one she gave to me was higher in price while the one for the insurance was within the insurance agreement.
Anyway, I have learned that you can get glasses on the internet for under $100.00 using your prescription and simply measuring your pupil distance. (they show you on site) My friend was able to get Progressive and Transition lenses including frames for $90.00 at Eyebuydirect.com. She has gotten her entire family glasses and has saved so much money! Opticians make their living by, overpricing and manipulating customers into purchasing things you simply don't need!! It's time we spread the word that you do not need to be sucked into purchasing glasses for $500 or more!

You get what you pay for! Come in for a eye exam they up sell you a membership. They recommend you another brand of contacts (from a smaller cheaper company), and they take 10 to 14 days to get there when I should have stuck with the known and trusted contacts I normally wear (Acuvue), that arrive in a couple days. Oh yea, they don't let you know it will be 10 to 14 days until you get your trial contacts until after they have given you an exam, and collected your money. I am thinking if my contacts was going to take two weeks, so should your payment. Its only fair right??? What good is a next day appointment if it takes 2 weeks to get contacts? My bad... your "TRIAL" contacts. 1-800-contacts can get you contacts in 2 days; But they won't give me my prescription (that I paid for the exam for), until after their "trial" contacts arrive. You can wait a couple days for a Walmart or Pearle Vision appointment, and have your trials that day, or 2 to 5 days maximum.
Its a classic case of stick with what you know. Can't ride my motorcycle. Can't play basketball. I have been wearing contacts for years, and should have continued to go where I know my business is respected, instead of opting for a cheaper place because of a cheaper eye exam. I gave it 2 stars instead of a 1, because I will say I did feel the doctor was qualified and performed a proper eye exam. My complaint is not related to the doctor, but the business process, or lack of. A simple sign stating "Trial contacts are currently taking 10-14 days" would give people an option to leave and spend their money elsewhere.

I would have to come back in 2 more week, the trial pair was for only 2 weeks, not even an apology for the miscommunication of any kind, had to rush to another provider just to pay another $200, for a fitting and the glasses are crap, way too strong, will never go back!! !

Had an appointment on January 25, 2014. The Dr was okay but appeared to be in a rush; shrugged it off, thought no more about it. They said that the glasses will be back in a week; never heard from them. Called today (2-17-14), the lady, Barbara asked all the identifying questions. Instead of checking, she says, "Okay, I'll call you back" and hung up. That is the worst customer service ever and how they stay in business is beyond me. Do they have a corporate office or something that should follow up on good customer service?

In September 2013, I took my 78 year old husband to America's Best for glasses. He had a stroke a few years ago and I am his caregiver. He couldn't see the TV very well so we visited the America's Best near our home in Georgia. The optometrist examined his eyes and gave us a prescription. They said he had the small start of a cataract in one eye. But it was not ready for surgery. They, of course, talked him into 2 pairs and the extras - which I expected. That is normal and it wound up being $182. When we went to pick up the glasses he told them immediately that he couldn't see out of them. They gave him some explanation and told him to wear them a couple of weeks. If they were still giving him a problem to come back.
Well he went back in 3 days. They were awful. Finally they gave him another exam and decided it "might" be cataracts, then referred him to eye doctor in the area. We went and he had a large cataracts in both eyes in need of surgery. We had them removed and he now has perfect vision in both eyes, other than needing reading glasses. They have offered to replace glasses with new prescription, but no refund. I am sorry but I don't think we need $182.00 reading glasses. Their customer service is awful and I have serious doubts about an optometrist who cannot see cataracts. Either she is not a good optometrist or she just wanted to sell some glasses. Either way, I won't be going back to America's Best and will be sharing my story any place that will let me.

This is the sequence of events that took place with all the dates. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and am waiting to hear back from their main office in Atlanta, I have also contacted Visa to file a dispute and get a refund.
Dec. 26, 2013 First Visit (Eye & Contact Exam) I left the office with a trial pair of contacts which was the original strength because they didn't have the prescription in stock the Doctor said I needed. Said they would order and notify me when in. Jan. 06, 2014 I received a call that the contacts were in. Jan. 07, 2014 I received a call that the glasses were in. Jan. 08, 2014 I called the store ahead to make sure both contacts and glasses were in. I picked them up on the same day.
Jan. 10, 2014 I called and complained that contacts were not right, the left eye was blurry. They said they would talk to the Doctor and call me back. They called me back and said the Doctor had another strength for me to try and pick up. Jan. 12, 2014 Went by Sunday, they were closed. Jan. 13, 2014 Went back on Monday and the Doctor came out and said they didn't have the correct strength but to try these +5.5 for both eyes "Soft Meds". I did not try the contacts right away because I was trying my new eyeglasses 2 days while I was off work. Jan. 16, 2014 I tried the contracts +5.5 for both eyes and they were horrible, I could not keep them in my eyes, kept popping out and blurred vision.
Jan. 22, 2014 I called to get my prescription so I could go somewhere else to buy contacts with the original prescription +6.0 left eye and +5.5 right eye, and they said to come get it. When I got there, they said they could not give me because I never had a follow up with the Doctor since my first visit. I was never told that was the policy. Why didn't they tell me this since I had made so many calls and visits since December 26, 2013. They scheduled me for next day to see the Doctor. Jan. 23, 2013 Came in to see the Doctor but when I got there I never talked to the doctor but instead they just gave me one contact +6.0 for my left eye and said they would order new trial lenses +5.75 for my left eye and +5.5 for my right eye in two different brands and was told to wait for them it could take up to 10 days.
Jan.23, 2014 I filed a complaint to their corporate office online on the same day (January 23rd) and the corporate office called me back on the 27th. I explained all the above ordeal and they said they would check into it and call me back in 24 hours. It took 5 days for a call back. Jan. 28, 2014 Corporate Office called me back letting me know they would be in that day and the local office would call as soon as they received the shipment to let me know they were in. A few hours later, I received a robo call that the lenses were in.
I went in that afternoon to pick up +5.75 for my left eye and +5.5 for my right eye. Through all this ordeal I never complained about my right eye, it was always about my left eye. To my surprise both brands were both +5.75 for left and right eyes as marked. I questioned what they had done and they went back and talked to the Doctor and came back out and said all 4 lenses from two different manufacturers were all for my left eye even though the contacts were clearly marked as L and R. I became upset with all their lies and shoddy practices and questioned their negligence and business practice. The lady I was dealing with at that time made some calls to find a match for my right eye +5.5 because I refused to mix and match different brands in each eye. She found one at Target Optical and I had to go pick it up. She tried to justify mixing and matching different brands as being common. I have worn contacts for 30 years and never had to mix and match different brands.
ALL OF THIS TIME, THE DOCTOR NEVER OFFERED TO RE-EXAMINE MY EYES AGAIN. I want a FULL REFUND for the exam and the eyeglasses since they are not usable with the wrong prescription they made them to.

I had an appointment to get my eyes tested. I already wear glasses but was due an exam. I was told I have good vision which I know that isn't true because many times I lose focus and can not see simple things in front of me more than 30 ft in front of me. The doctor asked me my problem then proceeded to say I needed bifocals. I went from perfect vision in his eyes to bifocals. I had to wait over and hour after my exam for assistance with my glasses. They advertise 2 for $69 but my total came to $352. I will never go there again.

Went to America's Best on 1/11/2014 and I will NEVER EVER go back to them even if they give me FREE stuff. This is a very dishonest business and they train their staff like used-car sales people. I should have known something was wrong when the woman that helped me was talking about everything else but glasses. I asked her that I needed bifocals and she understood that, then she recommended progressive lenses and I have heard about them before and I agreed. She showed me a pair of glasses she said 'belonged' to her (but I never saw her wear them), she just had them laying on her desk, that was the first clue but I trusted the fact that maybe she did not want to wear them at the moment. The woman said that my bifocals will look like hers without the line, and that will make them look a little nicer. Ok, I continued to express to her that I needed my glasses soon and she explained to me that it would take two weeks to come back from the Lab to which I said well "ok I have been here for over 45 minutes, well, let's go ahead and finish the transaction."
I had already chosen the frame it was nice, they went well with my face shape and they were comfortable but one of the legs had a scratch. I asked the woman about this scratch but she said that I was going to get a new pair. I said ok. Went back to the desk finalized the transaction. Went home and when at home I noticed on the Patient Copy receipt a Protection Plan charge for $25.00. This was never discussed with me while at the store. I called the store the same day and asked her about the charge and she indicated to me that it was offered but that if I did not wanted when I returned to pick up the glasses she could give me credit.
Two weeks passed went back to pick up my glasses to my UNBELIEF!!!!! that when I tried on the glasses I noticed the scratch on the leg, they were the same "floor model" been sold to me as new!!!!! At this point I canceled the entire transaction, the manager that took care of the cancellation was not very pleasant at all she placed the blame on me saying that the pair of glasses I chose were a Close Out item and they were the last pair they had at that store of that particular frame. Why was that NEVER indicated to me so I could have made a better decision?? I will have to start all over again and hope I will not find another shady sales person and a dishonest business that will not try to do this to me again.

I went to America's Best in Chicago in August of 2013. I had the exam and picked out my frames. I ordered one regular and one sunglasses. I need bifocals so I ordered progressive lenses for both pairs and polarized on the sunglasses. A week went by and I picked up my glasses. I wore the sunglasses and could not make out anything with them on. My regular pair I could not see correctly out of the left eye. I brought the glasses back and was told the sunglasses should have only been ordered in single vision. Then they checked the regular glasses and said the prescription was right. I told them it was not and saw the doctor. The doctor said the prescription was not right so new lenses were ordered for both pairs (progressive for regular and single vision, Distance, for the sunglasses).
Okay, a week later they tell me the lenses are in. I go in and get them replaced. The next day I went back to tell them I still cannot see clearly through my left eye. They looked at the glasses and said they were the right prescription. I told them obviously it is not right because I still cannot see clearly. The doctor came out and proceeded to tell me that you don't walk around with one eye shut and that they are made so that both eyes work together. I asked the doctor if that is the case, then why do they check each eye individually and what would happen if I somehow lost the use of one of my eyes temporarily. He did not have an answer. I went back several times after that and was told that the prescription was fine.
Finally I went to a different store in my hometown in Joliet. I walked in and was told that they were bought in Chicago and I would have to go there. I walked out and immediately called the customer support number. They called the store manager at Joliet and I was told to go back in to the store. I went in and the doctor gave me an exam and said that the prescription they had was wrong. He worked with me for over 40 minutes to make sure that I could see clearly out of the left side as well as the right. They ordered new lenses. I just picked them up two days ago and I still cannot see clearly out of my left eye. I told them this when I picked them up and they said I would have to talk to the store manager who was not in.
I called the next day and explained the situation and asked how is this possible. The store manager said he would have to talk to his district manager to find out what could be done. I still have not heard back from him. Good thing I paid for these on my Visa so I can dispute the charge with them. I gave them three tries and they still cannot make the glasses correctly. In my world, 3 strikes and you're out. I would not now nor ever recommend America's Best to anyone. I just wish I had done a little more research before going there.

I really wish I would have looked here before making an appointment for my fiance. He went there today for his exam and almost had a heart attack at how much his glasses were! We thought, just like everyone else at first, that he was going to get 2 pairs of glasses for $69, but that was nowhere near the price that was paid. They were vague at the 'deal' of the glasses. After picking out the $69 glasses, they still did not tell what was supposedly in the 'deal'. After everything was all said and done, the total came to be $303 dollars and some change. This was plain out ridiculous. They even 'suggested' that he take a glaucoma test for $15 on top of everything else. We agree when this place should be renamed to 'America's Worst'.

Most all reviews I've seen were people wanting enhancements and still getting the basic price. Any place you go, you pay a lot for enhancements, that's how ALL eyeglass places make money. Frames and basic lens basically are not money makers. But you have to do your homework before buying anything. I had a budget $250. I went in, made them aware that I am on a limited budget, never said how much, but let them know ahead of time not to upsell me, give me the prices only on what I ask for. The guy was very helpful. I wear bifocals and already know I can not afford progressive lens, so I told them I wanted line bifocals. Normally I wear transition lens, but again I knew I could not afford them this time, so I opted to have one pair with the polarized bronze lens and the second pair plain.
Basically, I told them the second pair all I wanted was scratch resistant coating and that was all because to me they were my emergency pair if something happened to the first pair. I got exactly what I ask for. Again there were things I wanted but I knew I could not afford it. My last two pair purchase was at JC Penney optical for over $500, which was fine because I got everything and I had the money. But this time, I was having a hard time financially, so I set a budget and I stayed with it. My first pair is polarized, scratch, UV/glare coat; second pair plain bifocals with scratch resistant lens. All below my budget.
If you're realistic from the start, you will be fine. If not, expect a higher bill. Most lens enhancements are about the same price everywhere you go, so it's easy to get prices ahead of time, then it's up to you to stay in your budget. My sales person took his time and found what I ask for at the best price for me, and each step of the way he wrote down every price and we put a package together. If I had more money, I would have got more of what I wanted but this time I had to get what I needed.

My Wife needed reading glasses and looking around. We found the 2 pairs of glasses with lenses and exam included for $69.99. I knew it was too good to be true but coming out of the store, I managed to get 2 pairs with a one-year replacement warranty and tinted for $118 total. I know it's not the $69.99 but still feel it was a lot cheaper than other places' pricing. If you need glasses and in Orlando I would suggest going to the one in Casselberry due to they really are upfront on the prices. Please also do not get the 15-dollar Glaucoma exam because the doctor did it anyway for my wife for free.

I waited for over an hour for the free exam. At the end of the exam the young lady tells me that I need to have this test to check for glaucoma. She said that she did not want to happen to me what happened to her. She said that she did not know she had glaucoma. She said but the test cost $15 more. I agreed to the test. She told me that the doctor would go over my results. When I met with the doctor she first asked me, why do I think I need glasses. I told her my test results prove I need glasses. I stated that I have trouble with fine print and distance and night vision. She said that does not mean I need glasses. She said what I was experiencing is all normal. What??? She told me my eyes were 20/20. Which is not true. I asked her for the results of the test for glaucoma as the girl stated. She laughed and stated that they did not have any equipment there that can determine if you have glaucoma. She said I would have to go to a specialist for that. She continued to laugh. I asked her if she wore glasses and take medication. I asked her that due to the fact that she was not making any sense.
She checked my eyes with a light. She tells me that the back of my left eye is a little thin. She said that thinning of the back of the eye is a sign of glaucoma. She just did not want to freak me out. What?? She said that if I did not wear glasses and I needed them it would not damage my eyes. I asked her again if she wore glasses. She said yes. She was dropped as a baby and the back of her eye is thin. What??? She tells me she would give me glasses if I feel I need them. I told her that the test is telling you I need them. She examined my eyes at that point and told me that I have trouble seeing distance and fine print. She said it is all normal according to my age. She said that she tells everyone she only give glasses if you feel you need them. She does not go according to the test. What?? This doctor does not take her job serious.
When I went to check out, the woman told me that the doctor wrote that I needed bifocals. She said that this did not make sense. She said that I could not pick small glasses. I asked her to check due to the fact that the doctor stated differently to me. She asked the girl next to her and she told not to care and do it anyway. The woman tells me the glasses that are two for $69 are not good, she said that the glasses are too heavy for my face, they will shatter and I have to be careful in the summertime. I asked her why she laughed and told me the glasses will melt. She said I needed to upgrade to more expensive glasses. America's Best should not be allowed to continue to operate in this manner. This doctor should not be allowed to see patients. This is all fraud. They are putting lives in danger.

I went to America's Best in February 2013 to get both contact and glasses. The exam seemed to go fine and I had wanted to try different contacts than I had been using before. I had brought in my previous prescription which was from Walmart. I had not had any problems with that one. After finishing my exam off I was given a pair of trial lenses and told to just stop back in about a week. I never could get the lenses to stay in, so I went in to tell them that. I asked if I could just go back to the brand of contacts I had been wearing for the past few years and they said it would be a problem. I also asked for a copy of my prescription at that time. I ordered some contacts in my new prescription. Those I also had some trouble with. They would fall out after a few days use and move so I never could see properly. I went to using my glasses and decided to go in and find out what the problem was in December. When I got there, they claimed I did not have a contact prescription on file because it was never finalized.
When I got to see the doctor he said he never wrote me a prescription and the problem with my contacts was the wrong bc. So he would give me some bc 8.3 to try. When it came time to get trial lenses, I was informed that they quite making my normal lenses (Acuvue 2 colors) so I could try Freshlooks but they only come in a bc of 8.6. I said no because that was why I was having problems with my contacts. The doctor decided to give me Biofinity. I was in a hurry by that time and took my trials and left. When I finally got home, I went to look for my prescriptions and noticed that the one from Walmart had a bc of 8.3 but the one from America's Best had a bc of 8.7. Then when looking at the Biofinity contacts noticed there bc was 8.6. I tried them anyway and they moved and one fell out after a couple days of wear. I now have to go back, for a third time and get new trials. Hopefully this time with the right bc, or else I am going somewhere else.

I used to go the location in Niles, IL, until one day I was surprised that the location shut down. When I called the location in Chicago (which was the next closet one), they told me the Niles location didn't do business right hence we it was shut down. Since I badly needed contacts, I went in for my eye exam (I have a three-yr membership with them) and asked if they will give me the same rates that were offered at the Niles location, they responded no, we can't but if you get us proof we will be happy to price match. Next day I go in with printed proof that my colored contacts were available outside for $28. The person helping me said, "I don't think we can do that for you, because price matching is at the manager's discretion. Let me go and find out."
She comes back saying, the manager said that the offer I got in was too low but she can sell me the same contacts for $37 instead of the original $45. I repeated what I was told the day before in regards to price matching and she was like, "I am sorry, as I said before it's the manager's decision". Why would one rep promise me something else? And was it more important than customer loyalty. I am really disappointed in them right now. I think I wasted my time getting the 3-year membership plan as it is. If all they can offer me is a price they feel is right even after promising me something else. I hope to never do business with them again and will refrain from referring my family and friends.

Today, I visited my local America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses and was given the "free" eye exam with the understanding I would purchase (2) pairs of glasses after the exam. Sounds like a great deal, right? Well, after the exam started and was about 3/4 complete, I was "offered" a "visual field test" service for a $15 fee? Understand that this was not explained to me prior to the start of my exam but rather after the exam was 3/4 complete. So, the "free" exam was not really free! After the exam, I discussed glasses with the rep. Understand that America's Best advertises "2 pairs of glasses for $69.95." When I made the appointment for the exam 2 days earlier, I stopped by the store to see just what frames were available for $69.95.
It was explained to me that 2 pair of glasses in the style I wanted would be around $200. Somewhat more than $69.95 but still ok. However, after my "free" exam, I spoke to the same saleswoman and was told the glasses would cost $400! I told the saleswoman that I couldn't afford the $400 so the next price she offered was around $300. Still $100 more than our first conversation 2 days earlier. In hindsight, I should have asked for a written estimate for eyewear prior to the "free" exam. Also, when they tried to charge me during the exam, I should have ended the exam. Does anyone know if America's Best has broken any advertising laws or is this just clever, albeit deceptive marketing?

Employees did not communicate anything in regards to costs, exams, insurance, promotions or 'catches', the customer was expected to know all the workings of the industry. They did not run or check insurance until after the exam and when payment was due. Came into the store with intentions to purchase 2 pairs of eyeglasses for $69, with free exam. The technician billed for a contact lens exam ($94). Would not correct billing to represent the offer. I contacted management to resolve the issue, there was absolutely no regard to the customer's experience. Never apologized for even a possibly misunderstanding. After 2 failed attempts asking to reach a solution, we offered a solution to management, there was no response and the offer was diverted. Management was condescending with words to the customer.
Due to the lack of customer service, I will never step foot in this store again. It's unfortunate that in a service industry this had to happen. I have never had an experience like this with any retailer, let alone retail management. I hope your experience is better than mine.

Called to get my glasses replaced and was told my glasses were under warranty but I had to drop my old pair off to get a new pair. Was told glasses would be in between 7 and 10 days. After two weeks, I called and was told my glasses were not under warranty. They then said they could replace them for 160 dollars which happened to be 30 dollars more than I was told it would cost if I had no warranty when I called the first time. So now I'm back wearing my scratched glasses until I find a better place. Thanks for nothing, America's Worst.

They had a $15 pre-exam and didn't pay for it because after doing it twice, it was inconclusive. But when I go and pick glasses, I pick the ones with the blue tag on it and those were affordable. With the scratch free lenses and everything except the tinted lenses, it all cost me a little over $200 and the eye doctor was wonderful. He examined my eyes and gave me prescription for my left which I never had before and it really helped my eyesight better. It took a while for me to get used to have prescription for my left. But it was beautiful. I'm a living proof that the ones in the state of Washington stayed true to their deals with great eye doctors.

About two years ago I was lured in by the cheap prices over the radio, bought their 3 year eye plan and left with a $300+ bill for contacts and glasses with not so quality service. The store is not close to my house; in fact about 40 miles or more away. Turns out a few of my friends in my local area had a similar experience. Today my wife, two 4 mo. old girls, 2 yr old son and I were forced into driving 40 miles up the coast in order to obtain a copy of the prescription for glasses and contacts. I had called and asked the store for a copy to be mailed/emailed/faxed/anything and was denied and told I needed to drive in to the store in person to sign a release to obtain this information. I had tried to explain the cost on my whole family to drive out to do this work/gas/travel time/time dealing with these people.
We arrived. My wife stayed with the kids in the truck on a nice HOT day. I asked for my information to be copied for me. I was told since it had been two years since my last visit I could not have copies of the prescriptions and I would have to be re-examined. I asked for an appointment I was told there would be no openings that day for me. I demanded to have the information given to me claiming it was my personal information. After about fifteen minutes of escalated argument they said maybe they could give me a copy of my records, but I would have to wait until the doctor was done with his patient so he could verify the information.
I was about shaking mad at this point. 30 minutes in the store… my wife texted me the kids are now screaming their heads off in the truck. 50 minutes of driving. I told them I was going to walk back and ask the doctor myself. A women from the front desk ran out in front of me and shoved her palm firmly into my chest pushed and told me I was not permitted back to an open area of the store. I told her to remove her hand and let me back. At this point we are both frustrated… me and the employees. I just want to get my prescription info written down, handed to me and promptly so I can get OUT of there.
The clerk with her palm in my chest told another employee standing a few feet away to call the police. She did, and at that point they went back. Knocked on the door and asked the doctor if they could give me my information. He said yes. They did. I left and walked out to my car. Waited 30 minutes hoping the police would come… they didn't and I left. I was so upset. I had to pull over and have my wife drive home and am shaking mad still writing this. If this gets posted and anyone gets anything from this story is don't support this company. I would have written them directly but I feel people have the right to know when they are about to step into a donkey show. Go somewhere else. Best advice!

Went to America's Best for first time last week after seeing ads. Asked them about cheapest price for bifocals and they said two pairs of lined for $99.95 and includes exam and everything. Asked them price for no line bifocals. They showed me chart and said $147.00 for no lines and that also includes eye exam at no charge. I asked if that is all costs and I can walk out of store with two pairs for $147 plus tax. They said yes, if I did not want optional scratch proof lenses, tints, etc. Came back today to pick out frames and get eye exam and verified the $147 price. Different girl said $147 does not include cost of frames. Cheapest frames or $60.00 each so add $120.00 to it, making $267 cheapest price for cheapest lenses and no tint.
Showed my outrage and asked to speak to manager. Manager confirmed the inflated price and when I told her about the other associate's claim, she just shrugged. I then decided to question the $99.95 two pairs lined bifocals price and what it included. She said it includes everything but since reading these complaints, I have my doubts. I'm doubting that anyone can walk into the store and get two pairs single vision for $69 or two pairs lined bifocals for $99. I can see that as soon as you veer ever so slightly from the advertised special deal, all bets are off and the price soars. Has anyone ever held firm on the special deal and insisted they only want that deal and nothing more? Please respond if you managed to get two pairs for the advertised price of $69 or $99? Thank you.

I began my excited journey to America's Best because I had heard of the great prices a few years ago. There is now one in Florence SC. I go to get an exam on a Saturday so that I won't have to take off from work. The night before I fell asleep in my daughter's bed with my contacts in and woke up in the middle of the night with a burning eye. I told the doctor up front what I had done and he examined my eyes, gave me some drops and told me to return in 3 days for a followup and refused to give me a contact prescription. I could not get off work to go back for my followup but was able to arrange to go to the Durham, NC office.
I arrived 15 minutes early for my appointment and the receptionists were very polite. I went into the room for what I thought was my followup and I was told to wait for the doctor. I waited alright! 1 hour later he came in the exam room and apologized that something had come up. There was only 1 other patient ahead of me. I was furious by the time he got in there but tried to be polite. The poor mother waiting behind me with the special needs child is what really upset me, knowing she had to wait with her child for so long.
While waiting I asked if they could measure my PD because I order my glasses online and the man working in the glasses area was quite rude and said "we don't measure PDs." I told him that was fine. I can do my own. When I asked if I could get a trial pair of lenses I was told that they didn't carry them in my strength but the Florence store had given me one. Hmmm maybe they were just out. 2 hours after I set foot on the property I walked out with my prescription in hand... and to think I bought the 3 year eye club plan... I'm going to hit the reviews on other locations near me. Hopefully I will find a good one.

I took my husband to America's Best for the deal 2 for $69. Our first time. We walk in. We are helped promptly at the desk by the receptionist. The place seems really nice. Our appt was at 230 pm. We didn't see the doctor until 330. THEN after the eye exam, we head to the front where they have our frames we picked out. The lady that helped us was not helpful at all. She barely spoke and I think barely knew what was going on. She then put a place mat in front of us and asks if we want to the basic package or the super, etc.
The package is one-yr protection, scratch coat, etc. She does not tell us that the package price is separate from the deal 2 eyeglasses are $69.00. It is on top of the $69.00 from the deal being offered. We think it's included. Well the lady didn't explain until she told me the price which came out to be $170. We also put polarized on one pair of glasses. We asked why so high and then we were told the that the package was put on top of the $69.00 for the glasses. We go in there thinking we are only going to spend between $70-$100, ended up paying almost $200, PLUS they have to send the frames off to be fitted with the glasses. With spending that much money, we should have had those glasses in an hour. Takes 2 weeks for them to come in too.
SO, 2 weeks come around and only one pair is ready. We get them. They are fine, nothing wrong, fits perfect. The other pair doesn't come in until 3 days later and NO polarized on them. I tell them. They say they'll send them back off, will take another week or so to get them back. 2 weeks later, they call and say they're ready. I go to pick them up and STILL NO POLARIZED. Instead of sending them back, I ask for a refund on the polarized. They give me a refund and that's that.
THIS IS THE WORST PLACE TO GO FOR GLASSES!! The people have no idea what they're doing. They don't speak to the customers like they know anything. They shove all this stuff in your face without explanation. Obviously, the people they send off the frames to, cannot read orders correctly. I do NOT recommend this place to anyone, not even my worst enemy. Plus here is the lowdown on the so-called deal 2 for $69.00. You go in, pick out 2 frames you want, go for the "free" eye exam, get your prescription from the doc, and then head up front again. Then you are talking to a assistant. They place a place mat in front of you and you have to choose which package you want for your glasses, part of the deal, have to do it. We went for the basic package, package cost $69.00 for both pair. So you're looking at $138.00 right there without tax. Just letting everyone know that you don't go in there thinking you'll get 2 pairs of glasses for $69.00. You'll be paying at least $150. Plus you decide you don't want the deal, you have to pay for the eye exam, which is... $69.00! Hope this helps people.

Last year I purchased 2 pairs of glasses from America's Best (reg. & sunglasses). I must say the staff was courteous, seemed to be well trained; however it may have been an "OPTICAL ILLUSION" as my glasses have not fit properly since I picked them up. I have since returned to several different AB locations to have my glasses adjusted. This is where my "DISSATISFIED RATING" stems from. I explain to the AB staff member that my glasses are constantly falling off my face. As you can imagine this is dangerous, annoying and unacceptable. This is where the "IT'S YOUR FAULT" comes into play. I have been told, "You must sleep with your glasses on" or "You must put your glasses on & off with 1 hand" or "Your glasses have been adjusted too many times", hence it must be YOUR FAULT.
I have been wearing glasses for the past 20 years and never have experienced anything like this before. In the past I purchased my glasses from a local optometrist who always made sure my glasses were properly fitted and never blamed me for any issues that I may have had with my glasses. I am sure of one thing. "It was my FAULT that I choose to purchase my glasses from AMERICA'S BEST instead of my local retailer."

America's Best is not the best. I had the worst experience there. I went in with my wife to the store at Dadeland in Miami for an examination and eyeglasses for both of us. The doctor, Ann **, did a very robotic examination on both us. I had my examination and was told that I had a mild cataract on my left eye which I already knew and told me that I could go about two years without needing cataract surgery. She then went on and prescribed glasses. After a week, my wife's glasses came in and they had put the wrong lens on one side at the labs. I told them that I hope that was not going to have any issues. Lo and behold, my glasses come in and the prescription for the left eye is the same as my old glasses. I told them that I was seeing the same as my old glasses on the left side which is why I came in for the first place.
I was given an appointment for Monday with the same doctor, Ann **, and she tells me now that the cataract is affecting my left eye and that glasses won't help. What!? I said, "Why didn't you tell me that in the first place instead of prescribing glasses?" Her answer now is that I have something wrong with the eye and that I should visit an eye doctor for an examination. So to me everything up to now was a mess and I just decided to get a refund and just see my own doctor. What a waste of my time to wait over 3 weeks and end up with nothing. As I said, the worst experience of my life. I do not recommend anybody there. They do not know what they are doing. This place should be called America's Worst.

The people on the commercial are wearing real glasses with actual lenses in them. We pick out pour frames. Had the eye exam. We go to order what we picked out and BAM. Only frames in the deal and lenses are additional and to it top off, extra for no line bifocals. It gets for the eye exam. We go with one of the frames and then we have to pay $60. It gets worse with 1 pair of glasses and I would say very cheap plastic frames $308. DO NOT GO TO THE DEALER. We got the prescription and left. My daughter was so upset. I should have learned my lesson when my wife went a decade ago to America's "Best" and we vowed to never go again. Unfortunately, I must have had a momentary loss of memory and decided to go there for a contact lens exam. I went online and scheduled the exam. Upon arriving, I had to fill out information about my history and then sat around like I was in the way until moving the next station.
The independent eye doctor was an older gentleman and was very kind and attentive, which was the polar opposite of America's Worst, as I prefer to call them. So, the exam was quick, and I was all-set to get my prescription. I was then ushered to a desk that was being run by either the Manager or Assistant Manager while she ignores me and I hear her talking to a colleague about being a divorced cougar and trying to get laid at some local place. It was utterly unprofessional. She finally got around to helping me and then told me that they didn't have my lens in-stock and had to point out how bad my prescription was and that it "sucks" that I can't see. I was quite impressed by her wonderful use of the English language and disregard of listening to anything I said.
So, I ask for the prescription. Nope, America's Worst is one of those operations that pulls the follow-up appointment nonsense. I was quite annoyed and they wouldn't release it to me because I had to been seen again by the doctor to make certain that the prescription worked. I proceeded to let her know that it was the same prescription from a year prior. Well, that didn't matter. Unreal. Their whole game is to get you back in the store and to have not bought contact lens after getting the exam and essentially breaking you down to buy from them.
How do companies like this exist? I've only heard complaints about them yet they live on year after year. Horrible. Stay away. The best thing I ever did was go to the independent optometrist at our local Costco. She was outstanding and there are ZERO sales pitches and nonsense. In and out in 15 minutes with prescription in-hand.

I went back in, did a follow up exam with ANOTHER doctor, and gave me another order for trials. I had to wait another week for those. I tried those once they came in, and they were also not feeling right. I went back in for another follow-up and they were wrong again. They sent another trial order in. I received those and guess what? They gave me the completely wrong prescription. So, within 6 weeks of waiting, I have had an insane headache and eye pain due to their incompetency. I am waiting to this day for the last trial I will accept from them and then I will leave. The pain is not worth the cheaper service. I would not recommend this place to anyone. I had trouble reaching their corporate office and I still am trying to reach them to solve this. I was told to take them to an eyeglass repair place, that after a year they, meaning the company, do not fix them. So basically, if you need a repair on your eyeglasses you purchased from America's Best, you are screwed and the eyeglasses are considered trash. I wouldn't have given any stars but this complaint gave me no choice but to give a rating... Please be very aware going to any America's Best eye care center for anything!!!

I was happy until I got home and reviewed my bill. I picked out 2 pairs for $69.95 off their huge wall and I guess some other client put more expensive glasses in this section. These sections should be watched and kept in order, because a person like me picked out glasses that were more expensive. It’s not my fault. They should be responsible for letting you know. Or maybe this is their perfect scam! I am upset and they should eat their mistake. I would put a stop payment, but my bank charges $35.00.

I, too, got sucked into the two pairs for $69 bait and switch scam promulgated by this company. What's worse, some friends had recommended them so I forgave that they lost my paperwork when I went in for an appointment and we ended up waiting for an hour and a half to see the optometrist. Everyone was polite, I'll give them that. And their manager did give me a discount on my glasses due to the wait. I also had the experience of the glasses not being ready and it taking several calls to finally get them. I have worn plastic lenses for over 30 years. I have never, ever had any of them get scratched, even when we lived in the desert. That is, until this pair and, boy, have they gotten scratched. This is with the scratch resistant coating too (yes, got two but haven't worn the other pair since they are for close work only). I've never used them! I just don't sit down long enough to make that practical.
I was going to put up with this for another month or two until my budget would allow me to get another pair from somewhere else. However, today after gardening, I went to rinse the dust off them and the coating/film started coming off both lenses. Now, I will have to get lenses - probably tomorrow, if possible! I will never get another pair from this outfit. I'm totally dissatisfied with the product and pretty much so with the company.

This place has the worst employees. I have had to deal with them ordering the wrong trial contacts several times. They don't update you chart with latest information even though you gave it to them several times. They are worthless when it comes to your insurance. Buy my contacts online as they are less expensive, and they get snotty to you when you refuse to buy them there. They make nasty comments when you refuse their eye club. I won't be going there again. I had an 11:45 appointment at the N. Myrtle Beach location. When I went in, there was only 1 person in the front area. When she finally had time for me, one of my first questions was if their eye exam appointments were on time. She said as far as she knew they were. As I was filling out the paperwork as a new patient, a worker from the back came to the front and told the girl at the desk that they were 5 appointments behind. After he walked away, I went to the desk to make sure I heard him right and she said, "Yes they were." I asked how far apart they spaced the appointments, and the answer was 15 minutes! That's what they allow for a complete eye exam? Now this meant that I would be there for an hour and 15 minutes at least and that was only if not one person ate up more than that 15 minutes. I left and will not go back.

I ordered two glasses from them, one used 1.67 index lens and one used 1.61 index lens. But it turned out the thickness of both lens are totally same. Everybody knows the 1.67 index should be thinner, which is the reason we use 1.67 index lens. When I doubted they used the wrong lens, they did not admit it and insisted they were right. I was really angry. They were lying in front of truth and evidence. There was nothing I could do until now... SO DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THEM! They are ** terrible!

My boyfriend took me to America's Best for my birthday to get me contact lenses. Let me say this - it was a disaster! He got me the membership for the $99.00 and paid the extra $15.00 for extra test to be done on my eyes. After the exam, I went out to the front by the associate who was supposed to take care of me. She was so rude and lazy. I was interested in colored contacts. She wouldn't even get up to get a chart so I could look at colors. She didn't even tell me that they had samples I could try on to see them in my eyes! She did not offer any variety of brands and did not explain that the brand I purchased only came in one size, which were too big for my eyes.
After I talked to the corporate office the first time, the associate lied and said I was only interested in that particular brand. The only thing that I said was I wanted blue colored contacts and showed her that one brand. But I did not want that brand in particular. I just wanted the color. After speaking to the corporate office, I was informed that it was not the associate's fault. That the doctor was supposed to recommend brands of contacts that would fit my eye. The doctor recommended ones that did not fit. My boyfriend paid for me to get 4 boxes of contact lenses, so he now spent over $260.00 on all of this.
A week later I got a phone call that my contacts were in, so I went to pick them up. They didn't have me try them on or anything so when I got home, I put them in and they were way too big in my eye. They didn't feel right at all. They didn't move with my eye. When I blink, they were blurry. When I would open my eyes, I couldn't even see out my peripheral vision. So I called and they told me I had to make an appointment, which was a couple days later. When I talked with a different eye doctor, he looked up the measurements the first doctor had taken of my eyes. He then explained to me that there was a big difference in the sizes and that the first doctor should have never recommended that brand for my eyes. He then told me of brands that would work.
When I talked to them about what to do with the contacts I already spent $260 on, they told me they couldn't return them due to the contacts company. Said they would give me a discount on another purchase. They said the contacts company's policy was I couldn't return that brand, but if I had bought the other brand they carry, I could have. I said then, "Why wasn't I told this to begin with?" They said, "The associate explained this to you when you picked them out." I then said, "NO, SHE DIDN'T because I would have never bought them if I knew that there was a no return policy." I did not want my money back. I would have agreed to just exchange them for the brand that fit my eyes. They said this was not their store policy, but the policy of the contacts company that would not allow me to do so.
So I left there and contacted the corporate office for the store first to complain. That was no help either. I called 3 times and spoke to them. I was told the same thing, which was they would give me a discount of 20% to make another purchase. I said, "What good is a discount? I already paid over $260.00 on this. I'm not going to pay your company more and then be stuck with these 4 boxes that I can't even wear." After going back and forth with the America's Best Store Manager and the Corporate Office, I got nowhere. It was just a bunch of games for 2 1/2 weeks. So I contacted the contact lenses company to find out that they will take back two boxes of opened contacts for a full refund.
They said that America's Best should have told us at the time of ordering that they can order you one sample pair to try out for free before you actually purchase any boxes of contacts. This no return policy is not their policy. This is America's Best that is just trying to push the blame so they don't look bad. She said, "The associate should have told you several things before your purchased" but I need to take it up with the store and they should do a refund or exchange for the right contacts. But at this point, they can't do anything other than give me a refund for 2 boxes because that is their policy. She suggested to return to the store and tell them to exchange at least 2 of the boxes on their end.
I did that and they still said they will not refund or exchange. My boyfriend feels horrible and feels this gift for my birthday was ruined. I feel bad because I am a single mother of three children. I can't let him spend his money again on me (we have only been dating 6 months), and I feel like this wonderful thing he tried to do for me was ruined also.

OK, like most of you, I've seen the commercial ($69.00 for two pairs of glasses). I made an appointment and as soon as I got there, they asked me if I have been here before. I said no. The girl told me to go ahead and look for the glasses I wanted. So I did, while waiting to be called for an exam. A lady checked my eyes and then told me that there would be a charge of $15.00 for some special exam to be done and was needed. OK done. Then I waited for the doctor to examine my eyes. He was very nice and answered all my questions. OK, now they sent me to another person who looked over my prescription and told me what I need. She told me I had an astigmatism. The doctor never mentioned it to me. In fact, he said my eyes were pretty good. Just needed a little help.
Well, after the lady asked me how I wanted my glasses done, which she said I'd have to wear all the time, I told her I would like the no line bifocals and transition. The price was outrageous. Almost $600.00 for the two pair of $69.00. I was in shock. OK, how about for one pair? $400.00. No, thank you and I asked for my prescription. She then charged me $60.00 for the exam. People were walking out of there so upset as I was. I knew that I was going to pay for the lenses, but what the! That's where they get you!
Very disappointed with this company. The consequence is that they waste people's time and try to rob you. People, please read the reviews of all companies before you do business with them. I know I will for now on.

I walked in with my mom as both of us needed new glasses. I read the fine print about the two pairs for $69.95, which did say it does not include the scratch resistant, or anti-glare protection, so obviously you are looking to pay over $100 more on that. I figured I'd give them a chance to explain everything before I decided. But when I walked in, this extremely grouchy old bat of a woman was completely rude to us. She asked how she could help us and right after I was done asking about the two pairs deal, she snarled and said "Oh, you will have to talk to a sales rep about all that, they are all busy right now." Then she goes back to what she was doing. No warm greeting at all, and all the demo glasses were smudged and disgusting looking. I'd much rather just spend more and go somewhere with nicer people.

I have never dealt with a worse company than America's Best. I saw an advertisement on TV for 2 pairs of glasses for $69.99 with a free exam. The advertisement did not have any stipulations associated with it. After visiting the store, I received my free eye exam and was told to pick out my selection of glasses from among the overstock cheap pairs. After sitting down for checkout, I was given a bill for over $300 just for one pair of glasses. Apparently, having an astigmatism costs more to create lenses. I did not see such a thing on any advertisement, except the ones in the store in fine print.
Furthermore, the glasses fell apart after only two months. I lost screws, the lenses fell out and America's Best did not adjust them to my face. After visiting a local Wal-Mart, I was able to actually have them adjusted to my face, but my lenses frequently fall out for no reason. Do not go to America's Worst. She then decided that I needed one of the most expensive brands of contacts there are, plus my eyes are two different prescriptions so that's a lot of money. My old contacts were only $13 per box if that. I asked about my free trial pairs of the other brands and she replied that I didn't need them. Then she got up and walked away. First of all, my first experience at America's Best Contacts and Glasses was awesome. Two years later, which is now, I went back there and it's the worst experience ever! While the deals are great, the service is not worth it. I bought two pairs of glasses in the beginning of February 2013. I waited and waited for a call to let me know that my glasses are in. No calls at all. In March I decided to call them. They told me that there's no record of me ordering glasses from them. For $121, I better have glasses! After multiple reps and multiple calls, they told me that something went wrong during the transaction due to the associate's fault and the order never went through.
Finally, in the middle of March, I called again to see if my orders are in. They told me again that there was no order made. Once again, I had to explain myself for the fifth time and finally was able to make my order. Today, the beginning of April, I called to see if my glasses are in. They told me that they tried calling and my phone was out of service. After double checking the number, it turns out that they never recorded my number into the system after I have given it to them 5 times! So I waited almost a month for my glasses to come in and never received a call because the associates are too incompetent to record my phone number into the system?!
I will not be using this service again. I guess when people say "you get what you pay for," it's true because for the cheap price, you get cheap service.

I went to America's Best in Victor, NY. I saw the advertisement on TV, and decided that $69.95 for glasses is a pretty good deal, considering what I use to pay at Lenscrafters. When we got there, we were seen within 10 minutes. The store was very clean. My doctor seemed very nice (very young, but nice). The eye exam was fine, no issues. I was actually pretty happy with that. When it came time to get my glasses (which I really don't wear that often, I am more of a contacts person), I found their selection to be pretty decent. It wasn't huge, but it wasn't small. I was able to find two pairs that I liked. (I am not terribly picky about glasses because I only wear them at home).
We sat down to do the ordering and she handed me the bill for over $300. What happened to $69.95? How in the world is that okay? They charge you over $100/eye for the lens. So I said, "Well, I don't have that and I am not paying that for 2 pairs of glasses that I will only wear at home. I just want one pair," thinking this would cut my bill in half. The bill was $250! How does that work? According to the receipt, you buy one at full price and get one half off apparently. The lady at the desk also added some ridiculous Eye Care Club for just $99 that she didn't even ask me if I wanted to participate in! After much arguing and being loud, I left still paying $150 for one pair of glasses. Absolutely, I do not recommend this business.
I ordered contacts through my doctor before this issue came up and they said it would be $12.49/box; it wasn't. They charged me almost $17/box. I asked them if I had to have a minimum order because most of the time, if you order more boxes, you get a cheaper price. And the lady behind the counter said, "No, it is a flat $12.49/box." Liars! I threw down $25 for my two boxes and left with them in tow. I will not be going back. We went in for an eye exam as my husband was having trouble seeing at distance and blurred vision. The entire appointment was a joke. So he has his first part of the exam and we are told that because of glaucoma history, we should pay the $15 for a new cataract and glaucoma exam. We did it. We were then moved to the exam room were the doctor checked his eyes and asked if he wanted to be dilated, which we also did. We were told to go ahead and look at the glasses. A few minutes go by and we began the process all over again. He had all the exam done all over again. This time, when we moved into the doctor's room again, she checked his eyes and told him the back of his eyes are healthy and proceeded to have him read again with dilated eyes, and that is the prescription he is given.
Needless to say, he will be going elsewhere for a new eye exam. Then the purchasing of glasses begins. So we choose two pairs and they have a discount, so a total of frames would be $134.99. We asked the associate for drive wear which is $89. I attempted to ask for other things but she is busy. Manager is on the phone the entire time (asking about jackets). We are told our total is over $500 but after insurance, it's $349. Not possible, I say. Insurance covers lenses 100% and frames up to $129, and there is a $35 co-pay. So I told her $89 for drive wear plus $35 co-pay and a few dollars for frame. That's impossible. Well, she took it upon herself to add insurance for $99 and told us we needed this. She never offered or asked.
At one point, the manager is called over to see how to add drive wear and looked. She laughed and went right back to her phone. The associate once she is cornered about the price takes off some stuff and the total comes to $189. After talking to corporate, we get all kinds of pricing. Today, we are told that drive wear is $89.50 per eye! Unbelievable! We live in Delray Beach, Florida, the retirement capital. I cannot begin to imagine what these people could do to them. I went to AB for my yearly eye exam for contact lens. The optometrist, Dr. **, called me into the examination room where I sat in the chair and he put the machine in front of my eyes. He sat on a stool and wheeled himself up to me. My knees hit his crotch. He didn't move or say excuse me. He continued to exam my eyes as if nothing was wrong. I felt so uncomfortable that I couldn't speak. I just wanted it to be over. He then completed the exam and gave me a recommendation for a completely different prescription. I use mono vision contacts and have had mono vision for years. The Rx I had was -1.75 left, -.50 right. Dr. ** gave me -2.75 left and -.50 right. I tried them for a week and my vision was good for distance, but I couldn't see clearly up close or my computer or to read.
I went back for a follow-up and he said he would go back to the -1.75 at all since I drive with contacts. He said he would let me try -2.25, which I did but they were worse. I called and told the manager Bev that all I wanted was to go back to what I had originally and that I wasn't happy with what the optometrist gave me. I told her the strength of the lens and she too thought it was too much of a difference. She said she would talk to the doctor and get back with me. She never got back with me. I had to call in today and was told that the doctor wouldn't go back to my old Rx at all.
Another complaint I have is about the office manager Bev. The two times I was at the America's Best store, she yelled at me across the room. When I was checking out after my first appointment, I was given 4 boxes of contacts that were SoftMed. I told the tech that I've never used that type before. She said it's in my chart that I have, but I knew I hadn't because the boxes were different than what I had in the past. Bev yelled across the room, "Then what is the name of the contact you used?" I told her I wasn't sure but I know it wasn't SoftMed. It was decided that I would try a sample of the Softmed and see how they were. Because I didn't get the clear vision I had with my old Rx, I went back for a follow-up visit.
Doctor ** gave me a sample of the -2.25 to try, so I sat with the eye tech again at the computer. I told her that I was just going to try this new Rx and wasn't going to order yet; that I used to use Acuvue lens and not the SoftMed. Bev yelled across the room again at me saying, "Barbara, do you want to see your chart?" I told Bev that was the second time she yelled at me across the room and that I didn't appreciate it, and it was very rude and unprofessional of her. I told her that I know what I know and she doesn't need to talk to me like I'm retarded. My visit at AB has been horrible. I haven't gotten the proper visit for contacts with them. I was treated rude and with disrespect.
Even a young lady, Nicole, was going to help me one visit and she had a bottle of water in her hand and candy in her mouth. No one introduces themselves to the customers or talks them through what they are doing on the computer while you are sitting in front of them waiting for the insurance to be brought up or anything. I serve people every day at my job. I take pride in that service. To have an optometrist put his crotch up against my knees and not excuse himself or an office manager to yell at a customer is wrong. I can't believe America's Best has employees like this. I now have to pay for another visit out of my own pocket to a reputable optometrist - one that will know what he/she is doing.
I am stuck with contacts that I cannot see clearly out of and will be going into the store on Power Road Mesa, AZ to get my records to go elsewhere. I will never recommend AB to anyone - ever.

I bought two pair of glasses at America's Best. One pair broke right away; the second lasted longer, but lens kept falling out. I took the first pair in for repair (replace ear stem). I explained I didn't want to spend a lot for a fix. I was due for another eye exam. "Sandy" said they don't have spare parts, but she could put them into another frame. Well, they advertise 2 pairs of glasses plus free eye exam for $69.95. How much could just a frame cost? It cost, for just one frame, $53.95. This was from Sandy who nodded sympathetically about my not wanting to spend a lot of money. While she was off, cleaning them, I was listening to a clerk upselling “very important features” to a senior citizen, totaling hundreds more and another clerk upselling to a young mother. $69.95 for two pairs - not bloody likely! Carnies bait and switch.

I went into the store at Barry Road and North Broadway to complain about my glasses. The lenses are cloudy and the coating is coming off. I paid over $300 for this prescription and paid for an extended warranty. There is a gap in the frame holding the lenses. When I went to this store and showed my glasses to the manager, the first and only thing that concerned her was if I had a warranty. Then, she proceeded to tell me there was nothing she could it would do. She stated, "I don't know how you have been cleaning your glasses." This attitude of blame and inconsiderateness was unacceptable. Managers usually handle issues with tack and with respect to the customer, I thought.

I paid for my son's glasses at America's Best Eyeglasses, (Largo Town Center, Upper Marlboro, Maryland) and was told that they did not have them in stock, so they have to order them. I was told that it would take between 7 to 10 days for me to get the glasses. The payment and order was put in on the 14th of October. I called later after 2 weeks and was put on hold for over 15 minutes. I called again and was told that the glasses were not in yet. I called again on November 6 and was told the same thing. Not yet in. However this time the lady that I spoke with offered to re-order the glasses. She placed a new order and I then called again today November 20th, 2012. I was put on hold for about 10 minutes and they promised to call me back.
This time they did call back, and was told that someone or I must have picked up the glasses. She told me to hold while she checked on that again. Finally, she came back on the phone and offered to re-order them again. Now, I am really **. On Monday, the 26th of November, I'm going to ask for my money. I took my 9-year-old daughter to have her eyes examined due to some headaches she was experiencing. Sure enough, she needed glasses. The doctor said she was "just a little nearsighted." He set her up with glasses, and told her to wear them to see "far away" and take them off to read. She received her glasses in March of this year, 2012. It is now November of 2012, and her headaches had become so severe (which she would always put on her glasses when she started to get headaches), that I had no other choice but to go back to the Lincoln Park, MI office and have her reexamined.
Upon her re-examination, she was diagnosed as being "far sighted" and needed glasses only to read things up-close. At this point, they had charged me all over again, like I hadn't been there already this year, and the only reason I came back was due to their mistake. My daughter suffered with headaches and nausea that caused her to miss school, for months! If you have ever put someone else's glasses on that were not meant for your eyes, and attempted to function normally, you should have an idea of what this poor child was experiencing for months. This incorrect prescription could have caused permanent damage to my daughter's vision. Not to mention, I was not compensated in any way, or even offered an apology for the situation.
Presently, I will be taking my daughter to another doctor, because I'm not confident with the diagnosis from America's Best. This will mean I will have paid, in full, for three different eye exams due to lack of liability. They have no intention of reimbursement, or even showing remorse for the suffering and financial strain they have put on my family. This is not right or ethical in any way, and for me to let this go without expressing the pain and suffering my daughter has gone through, would be unethical on my part. People need to know before someone is permanently damaged by their unprofessional services. I am extremely upset, and will be contacting an attorney.

I had a prescription from an eye surgeon but came back later to get the free eye exam to check to see if the glasses were correct. They were. I checked out with Erica, and she said no charge and let me go. Diane called me late and threatened collection and to call the police, saying I left without paying. I called a corporate number, and they said they'd get back to me but didn't. Now their number is not working! They advertise a free eye exam with purchase of 2 pairs of eye glasses. I purchased a pair of glasses for $400.00. A month later, the frames broke. I returned them for a new pair under warranty. Two weeks later, I got the new pair and noticed that they had a defect in the welds. The arm was on crooked. Instead of replacing them, they wanted to charge me another $365.00 because they were only covered for one warranty replacement. Now, I'm stuck with a defective pair of glasses. Looking at the different frames they had, I also noticed that not one pair of frames in the whole place was made in America. They all came from China or Korea. That's pretty sad for a place named America's Best.

I walked in, and the woman behind the desk didn't even know there was a 12:30PM appointment. I set the appointment, specifically stating over the phone I wanted a contact eye exam. I filled out the paperwork and told the guy I wanted a contact eye exam. During the first tests, I told him again I wanted a contact eye exam. I told the doctor in a separate exam room that I was wanting to go back to contacts. They got me out of the exam room and told me to start looking at frames!
I asked about titanium, and they told me they didn't have them. A woman browsing the shelves (a customer!) shows me a pair of clearly labeled (yep, you guessed it) titanium. I hunt through every pair of frames to find one, just one, that's titanium that I can wear. I asked if I could just get two of the same, and they said no. So, I had to go back to hunting for another pair of the same size that was not titanium. I sat down to discuss the glasses, and they wanted $360 for two pairs of glasses, not counting the cost of the eye exam! Meanwhile, I'm looking at signs plastered all over the walls and windows that advertise "$69.95 for two complete pairs of eyeglasses."
Mind you, the last time I bought glasses, my nearly indestructible frames that I bought for $19.99 came with lenses for only $80. Not some cheapy little hole in the wall, either. The only reason I'm needing glasses now is because of scratches on one lens. That is so people can understand I don't have some specialized prescription. And the doctor even told me she didn't really need to change my prescription, either.
This place is a scam and is staffed with a bunch of deaf people who don't even know what products they carry or how to do an eye exam for contacts, apparently. This place left me walking out, regretting having even paid for the eye exam.

My husband - oh, my gosh, he has been back three times already for contacts and she is yet to get it right. $99 Eye Club Membership and Exam - I scheduled an appointment at the recommendation of a friend, then started checking around for reviews and found many complaints about America's Best but decided to give them a chance, going in and being very skeptical and on the defensive. I walked into the Monroeville, PA store and the staff were very friendly and professional, explained everything in detail, including the $99 special. I had assumed it was for contacts only and planned on coming back at a later date to get eyeglasses as well. The doctor was very thorough, friendly and professional. After the exam, she gave me temporary toric contacts to wear until my trial ones came in.
At that point, I thought, "Oh boy, this is where they are going to get me - I'm going to have to pay out of my rear for these" because I had never worn torics before and heard they can be quite pricey. I got upfront where the girl was friendly, kind and again, very thorough about explaining the $99 package to me. She explained that my plan not only covered contacts but eye glasses and accessories as well and if I came back within 45 days, I would get 20% off those as well. Once she completely rung me up, I was pleasantly surprised that I was only charged $99 today and walked out of there with temporary contacts that actually fit and the prescription was correct and was told I would be called in a week when my trial lenses for the permanent prescription came in. I walked out of there very pleasantly surprised and pleased with the quality of service I got and would recommend my friends and family to go to this location.

On July 1, 2010, I went in for an eyeglass and contact eye exam. I received new glasses without a hitch, customer service was reasonably good, if not a little abrupt. The prescription took a couple of days to adjust to since it was much stronger, but they were great. The exam for my contacts was not as thorough (and done separately). I was asking a lot of questions during the exam about my eyes and wanting advice. About five minutes into it, when my vision was still blurry using the machine, she flipped it closed and said, "We're done." I said, "Are you sure? That was it?" She confirmed she was finished and hurried me out. I remember thinking she didn't like me talking or asking questions (about my own exam) and ended the exam early.
It certainly didn't feel like the exam had been completed, but I brushed it off as me reading too much into it and convinced myself she was a professional and would never let me walk out without a proper exam and accurate prescription. When the trial pair came in, I knew they were immediately wrong. In the office, as I was trying them on, I said they were really bad and made my eyes hurt. They said I needed time for my eyes to adjust to the stronger prescription, but the fact is I knew they had just done it wrong. I have astigmatism in one eye and I ordered special (more expensive) contacts that are made just for astigmatism. At the eye exam, the doctor is supposed to carefully measure the distortion in the shape of the eye to get an accurate prescription, but she did not do this at my exam. Every other exam for contacts I've ever had, this was done.
Regardless, I sent them back and demanded a new eye exam at no charge. They said a follow-up fitting with the doctor was included in the price I'd already paid. I explained the prescription was wrong to begin with, so this wouldn't be a follow-up to make sure the contacts were fitting properly. The staff seemed so unwilling to acknowledge the eye doctor's mistake. I ended up getting my glasses and just leaving, not returning. I took the loss and decided not to go back to that location. Two years later, I moved to another state and decided to give the America's Best in my new town a shot. I also decided not to get contacts this time around and scheduled an eye glass appointment for the 2 pair for $69 special. On 10/16/12, I went in for an eye exam. The doctor said my prescription had changed only marginally, even though I was there because I was now having to squint with my glasses on to see things just a few feet in front of me clearly.
I had started getting headaches again because my eyes were straining from trying to see in my old weaker glasses. I was surprised he said that my prescription had not changed much, in fact, he said the change would not even be noticeable. But I took the prescription anyway because the exam itself seemed thorough and I saw very clearly with the test. When I ordered the frames, instead of handing me a bill for the $69 (and I assumed there would be additional tax), I was charged $147 and some change. The way the lady explained it, this didn't reflect the discount yet and I would receive the difference when the glasses were delivered. I signed the receipt. When I got home and examined the bill in more details, I just didn't think she was telling it right. I called the next morning to ask about the bill.
The first person who answered asked for my name and said right away, "Oh thank you for calling, we were discussing you last night right after you left. I'll go get the manager." Then the person who sold me my frames came on the line, though I don't think she was a manager but either way, I said I thought maybe I might have been overcharged. It turned out that she explained the charges were correct and included this other package that also cost an additional $69. I never ordered anything extra. In fact, when we were sitting down to discuss options, I said I wanted just the basic package because that was all I had budgeted and asked if I could later bring the glasses in to have the anti-glare and scratch coat added on, and she said absolutely I could bring the glasses in anytime to have those things added later. What irritated me is that she just added on this $70 extra package without asking me about it, without reviewing the bill and without explaining what I was paying for. She just pushed the receipt in front of me, made a halfway vague reference to paying half later and that was it.
To me, this was really deliberate. All she said on the phone when I said I didn't order that package was "Oh." No explanation or apology. She did say she would fix the bill and give me a refund for the difference, but I would need to come back with my Visa card so they could do the refund and the store is not close. So now we have to spend our evening because I can't go until after work, driving there to get their mistake fixed and driving home, which will be our entire evening. I'm a single mom and that means no family time at home tonight. I won't know if the prescription will be good or not for a week or two, but will post an update either way. The positives were that everyone was very nice at this location and the lady who sold me my frames was very helpful in helping me pick frames that fit my face shape, and for that I am grateful because the last pair I had was not a good fit for me. But I just wish she would not have snicked in an extra $70 in charges because now I am distrustful.
I would tell people who want to go to America's Best to speak up at the time of order if the bill doesn't look or sound right. Also, be assertive in the exam room. Make sure you speak up if your exam is going too fast or if the test seems too blurry still. Stop them and have them do it right while you are there, sitting in the chair. Don't trust that they will make it right for you after you have paid your money. It also helps to know what your old prescription is. Ask. If you don't have it from your last doctor, they can use your current glasses to tell you what your current/old prescription is, they have a machine in the exam room that does this. If you have contacts, bring your box or individual contact containers (when they are new from the box) as these usually have the prescription on them.
Get your new prescription in writing from the doctor before you leave the chair. They should do this without being asked. Ask what the difference is from your last prescription so you know they aren't just writing down your old one and so you can ask questions. Don't let yourself be rushed. You haven't paid anything yet so while you are in the exam room in the chair, make sure you ask the questions you want to ask and make sure you are seeing well and hopefully, better than when you came in when seeing through the machine. If you don't, be stubborn about it until they get it right for you.

I went in to get two pairs of cheap bifocal safety glasses for $99.95. I ended up spending $325.89 for two cheap bifocal safety glasses. That's without any coatings or options whatsoever. Although they did include the same standard frames that have been around for last 30 years, I'd estimate the cost at $3 each F.O.B. It's almost worth the extra price just to watch them come up with all the reasons why your particular glasses don't qualify for the advertized price. I don't have time to play with companies like this myself. I simply keep a list of them and never go back. Before you go in for your glasses, just take a few night courses on marketing and prepare a doctoral thesis on all the proper questions to ask so you don't get ripped off and you'll do just fine.

I made an appointment with America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses on July 24, 2012 at the Rock Hill Galleria location. The office was overly busy with standing room only at times. They had only one eye doctor working that day. Her name was Dr. **. The staff was running around in a panic and were extremely disorganized. One of the front desk staff was crying and kept going back to the break room for extended periods of time, leaving the others to pull her load while one of the other staff kept going back to check on her. It was a dramatic scene that did not belong in a place of business in front of the patients.
Dr. ** was hurrying about trying to see all of the patients by herself. When it finally came my turn to see her, my eye exam lasted all of about 5 minutes. I was not an established patient and therefore the doctor was not familiar with my case. I am blind in one eye from birth, therefore, I need a little more time than 5 minutes for my eye exam. She flipped through the optical lenses really fast and I never did get a clear view. She wrote a prescription for my glasses and sent me on my way. She was very flustered, red in the face and stated that she hadn't had lunch or even a break yet. I chose my frames and ordered my two pairs of glasses (which totaled $604.55).
2nd trip - In two weeks, my glasses arrived and I went to pick them up. Immediately when I put them on, I could tell they were not right. Everything was very blurry and my eyes started hurting. I told the girl about it and she said, "Oh, you just have to get used to them since they are the Digimax HD poly lenses." She told me to give them 10 days for my eyes to adjust. I was glad that my husband drove me there because I couldn't see to drive home. After 10 days, absolutely nothing changed and my eyes were killing me and I couldn't see any better. I called and told them what was happening. I told them that I thought the prescription was not right and needed another exam, so they scheduled me in with a different doctor this time.
3rd visit - I can't remember what the doctor's name was this time, but he actually took time with me to give a proper eye exam and apologized over and over again for the first doctor writing me the wrong prescription. He was extremely nice and knowledgeable. He wrote me a different prescription and I went out to the front desk to order my new glasses. I left one of the two pair that I had previously purchased with them so that they could send them in and get the right lenses put in the frame, and that would leave me with the other pair to muddle through with until the correct ones came back.
4th visit - In two more weeks (September 4th), my corrected lenses came back and I went to pick them up. The prescription was right this time and I could see wonderfully. I left my second pair this time with them to be sent off and corrected as well. There was a lady there probably mid to late 50's with short bleached hair that took the second pair and gave me the third degree, questioning me about where I got these, which doctor I saw and why were they being sent back. She was very abrasive and rude. One of the other front desk staff saw what was going on and came over to her and explained to her that it was okay to send them back to be redone because it was their mistake in the first place.
She opened up her desk drawer and tossed the glasses in there and said "I'll take care of it," acting like she had been asked to do something horrible. I did not have a good feeling about them being taken care of by her with her attitude. Two more weeks passed and I received a call from America's Best stating that there had been a mix-up at the lab and my glasses were not back yet. The lady assured me that it would only take one or two more days before they arrived. I waited another full week and didn't hear anything, so I called them and was told that my lenses were broken during the inspection process at the lab and had to be re-made all over again.
Today is October 3rd and I just called America's Best to see if my second pair of glasses ever came back. The lady said, yes, they arrived today. I will be going to pick them up in the morning. If they had not come in today, I was going to demand a refund on the second pair and give up. I have worn glasses since I was 2 years old. I am now 49 years old and have never experienced problems like this trying to get glasses. All I got were excuses and different stories about what happened to my glasses. Not once has anyone there offered an apology about what's been going or offered to put a rush on them to get them back. This is unacceptable customer service! It took 10 weeks from my first visit to complete the process and get my glasses right!
I will never again go back to another America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses for any reason, and I plan to tell everyone I know not to go them either. I have never spent so much for glasses ($604.52) and had such a hard time getting them right and receiving such poor, rude customer service. I had a good eye exam, but the trial pair of contacts came. I picked them up and they were the old prescription. It was a two-hour drive again for nothing. Feeling uncomfortable, I asked for a written prescription. Again, they sent the wrong one and they wouldn't give me one while I was there. The doctor was at lunch and promised to call me. There were no calls from anyone. I assumed they re-ordered the right trial pair. Instead, they ordered boxes of contacts for $99.00 without the trials. They charged me.
I’m totally confused now. I called and they said I came in for a follow up visit and I did not. They mailed a new prescription and I know the right eye is right, but the left eye is wrong. I think the doctor never wrote it down correctly in her file. While trying to get it straightened out, I finally gave up and demanded all my money back. I didn't pick up any contacts and they have five major customer service messes. I expect problems and one or two, but I was no longer confident they could ever get it right. Today, I returned for my follow-up to be informed that I was not on the schedule and that the doctor had already left for the day. The front desk associate then had the nerve to ask me if I was sure I had the date correct. Since I have an appointment card that clearly states today's date and the time of the appointment, I knew that the appointment was supposed to be scheduled.
If I had not already paid for the appointments, I would not be returning. I work 6 days a week and I specifically chose America's Best because they offer Saturday afternoon appointments, which is the only time I have available. I will now have to wait an additional week to return yet again to receive my new contact lens prescription. In the meantime, I will be wearing old lenses as I cannot buy new ones without the prescription. Also, I will now have to cancel another doctor's appointment that was made for next weekend to compensate for AB's incompetence. Ok, so I have probably bought 4 other pairs of glasses from AB (same store on 72nd). I know what to expect - they sell closed out frames at a big discount and they make their $ from the lenses. Make sure you realize that the prices they quote are per lens. I get it. But after not calling me, I called them and was told my 2 pairs were ready; I went there and was told there was only one pair. Then after me insisting, they finally went back and found them all. Then, the fun began. They were worse than my old lenses, prescription-wise; reading part of the bifocal was very blurry. The dispenser then told me that there was nothing they could do as my prescription was so strong that my vision couldn't be corrected. Never mind the fact that my old glasses were fine; just the frames were falling apart (3 years old).
I asked if he could have them redone. "Nope" was his reply. So, I asked for a refund. After much hassle and delay, he finally said, "Sorry, gonna have to have Corp. Office send you a check, as their computer program wouldn't allow me to give you cash." I went elsewhere of course; and yes, the exam, frame and lenses cost me much more; but at least they correct my vision, and I didn't end up furious and feel like I need a bath. And about 3 months after I got them, the edges started to peel also, which was kinda weird. So this year after my prescription ended, I went to Sears to get an eye exam instead for a $20 co-pay. I went back to America's Best this year and ordered one pair of glasses. The frame was $49.00. So it turned out being $150 because of the lens I needed. Glasses usually only take about a week to come in when I get them from Sears or Wal-Mart. However, for America's Best, it takes them 13 days for them to call me and tell me they were in.
When I arrived to the store, the lady gave me the wrong pair of frames with my prescription in it. As soon as she took those bright yellow glasses out, I said, "Those aren't the frames I ordered." She was like "Your name is Kim, right? Yeah, these are it." I said, "No, I ordered black frames and they were a little thicker." She looked at the paper from the lab and said, "Well, everything's right on the paper." I, being 8 months pregnant, didn't wanna get heated over a pair of glasses I've been waiting for 2 weeks. The lady who placed my order 2 weeks ago came up and looked at the paper and told the other worker "Yeah, these aren't her frames, but they have her prescription in it. It says she ordered the Black Crystal frames." Then this other random worker came up and said, "Oh wow, don't you feel lucky today?" I just looked at her.
But the lady, who placed my order, opened up another person's glasses and said, "These are the ones you ordered?" I was like "Yeah." She said she had to send them back to the America's Best lab because they switched up mine and another person's frames and prescriptions. Then as I walked out, the random worker spoke again and said, "OMG, how many months are you?" I said, "Umm. 8." And she's like "Oh! Well, congratulations. Have a nice day!"

Waste of time and money – I went to "America's Best" because I was about to leave for a vacation, big mistake. They rushed me through an eye exam and gave me the wrong prescription. I just went back to my normal eye doctor and got it straightened out. Don't ever go to America's Best. It's like the difference of going to a doctor or a drug dealer.

My husband had gotten the free eye exam and $99.95 glasses twice in the past, so I did not think twice about setting up an appointment at America's Best. The customer service was fine and everyone was very pleasant. However, when the time came to pick out my glasses and talk about price, the 2 pairs for $99.95 turned into over $300.00! I told the customer service person that I could not afford that; I would not pay over the $99.95. He then began to break down the cost of everything. After telling him a few times I could not pay that much for glasses, I told him that I knew they had better prices because my husband had purchased glasses for the advertised price. He then looked up my husband, as if I were lying! Once he saw that indeed we had done business with them, I was told that I was going against what the doctor had ordered for me, hmmm.
Long story short, I stood my ground and got my two pairs for $114.00 total, walk out the door price. I'm not sure if I will go back, because I don't exactly like being put into a corner when their advertisement states 2 pairs for $69.95 or $99.95. If I had not had my husband on the computer for a past customer, I have no idea how far this young man would have pushed. I just know that I am not happy about fighting to get the advertised price.

I had an eye exam for contacts. Thankfully, I also asked for a written prescription. After a couple weeks, I called and asked them to order my contact lenses. After several calls and two weeks later, I picked up my lenses, paid for them, and returned home. Noticing something odd, I compared my lenses with my written prescription and discovered they dispensed the wrong contacts. I returned the contacts and asked them to validate the prescription in my paper patient records and in their computer system with my written script I received at the time of my exam. They were all correct. The contacts were reordered for the second time, which over two weeks for them to arrive. And you guessed it, they were still wrong again.
I asked to speak to the manager and was told to wait. She wasn't even there. Another clerk offered to assist. She said she would order the correct ones. Two days later, they called and asked if I needed to order contacts and for which eye. This place has the highest level of total incompetence I have ever experienced in my life. Isn't there a law about dispensing wrong prescriptions even after validation?

I went to the store in Columbia, MO on Monday, July 9, 2012. It had been a year since my last exam, plus my prescription for the eye drops I use for glaucoma had expired. I also have cataracts but had seen a specialist in February and was told I am not ready for surgery on them. The staff was very nice and friendly. The optometrist was a whole different story. He acted like he'd rather be doing anything at all other than giving eye exams. He had me look through the machine to see if I could see with either eye. My right eye is worse than the left eye, and I could not see what he was telling me to read. Instead of working with me to get a prescription that was better, he just skipped to the left eye, then both eyes together. He didn't do anything but tell me I need to have surgery.
I asked him for a new prescription for the eye drops. He got a little belligerent and asked who told me I had glaucoma. So I explained. He wrote the prescription and almost threw it at me. I noticed after I got home that the prescription is good for only one refill. Any idiot knows that drops are used daily and you don't return to the eye doctor every 60 days for a glaucoma check. I'm used to having the prescription written for at least 6 months at a time. This man should not be doing eye exams. He was unconcerned and wasn't willing to take the time to be sure my current prescription was taking care of my visual needs. I will not return to this business. I'm not sure how I'll get my next prescription but will deal with that later. I paid $45 for an exam that, to me, was worthless. I will not pursue a refund but feel it should be given.

My appt. was in December of 2011 for the 2 pairs at $69 which ended up being close to $400. Like a fool, I got the glasses. This past Saturday (6/23/2012) I picked them up for the 3rd time, and still they aren't right. I'm going to try again and get my money back. I would never recommend America's Best Eyeglasses to anyone. Maybe if America's Best had American doctors, it would be a different story but I've seen 3 different doctors at the same place and got 3 different eye exam results. Last time, all I wanted them to do was duplicate the lenses from my old glasses, that's all and I'd be happy. They said they did but if so, why are my old glasses better than these? Bottom line, no refund this time. I'm going to file in small claims court. I work hard for my money. Why should I throw it away on something I can't use?

I bought two pairs and paid the extra $15 for the visual field test. They said everything was normal, but I had astigmatism in both eyes. After that, I wore both glasses - one doesn't even fit my face, the other is fine except the fact that after wearing them, I developed surfer's eye. I was told both lenses had UVB and UVA protection. I've been trying to get a hold of them to fix this, but they are not even responding to me. I've emailed them due to the fact that I have bad hearing. I'm emailing them again. Even with bad hearing, I will call. If they don't fix this, you can bet I'm filing a lawsuit on them. Prescriptions are not right at all, and all I wanted is for them to get me new lenses. But I guess they'll contact me when my year of insurance is up.

I have used ABC&E for several years and the 2 for 1 was my primary reason for buying single-lens eyeglasses. However, that changed with bi-focals and the so-called 2 for 1 is not what it seems. It is a basic bait-and-switch business model and for budget-minded consumers, this is not a good place for eyeglasses. You will find that you will pay much more for those eyeglasses and the quality is not as good for what you pay. If it were a place where budget eyeglasses came with a budget price, then the product would be agreeable between the consumer and the provider. This is a very profitable business model that buys cheap frames and "upgrades the cost”. They are also not a full-disclosure operation. They don't tell you that if you decline what they want you to pay for the eyeglasses(s), you will have to pay for the eye exam/Rx. They should tell you upfront before you agree to the exam.
Before the exam, they will offer additional screening for $15. I declined but they gave it to me for free - or so you think? After the exam, I was told that the 2 for 1 will not work for my Rx and required "upgrades" due to whatever they said. What happened next should have not been surprising. The 2 for 1 did not apply, so the two for $99 became $200 and that is for one pair! But it did not stop there, because the sales clerk made an "error" in the math and it became $245 (one pair) and this was after I had offered to pay $105.00 for one pair. I had laid out my cash for $105 on the counter, but was told that it would be more. The communication with the sales clerk had broken down and deteriorated badly that we were both confused as to what it would actually cost. I declined to buy the product and asked about the free eye exam.
Where is it written that the eye exam is not free if a customer declines to buy the glasses at their cost? She could not produce a written policy or any signage in the store. This information should be known before anything happens. While many consumers don't care what ABC&E charges, there are a few of us who do. In the end, I told them that I would not pay for the eye exam/Rx unless they could show me that it is printed somewhere, whether on the initial paperwork or in the advertising posted. In all fairness, the staff was courteous and helpful. They did repair at no cost my broken nose piece on my current glasses. When I think about the experience, they should be able to tell you that you can get a pair of glasses for $100. Budget-minded consumers need to look at other providers. The 2 pairs for $99 with free eye exam are not what you will pay - no matter what you think and ABC&E knows this. They are nationwide.

The environment was unwelcoming, and the associates were rude. An inexperienced associate did the first half of my exam, and the the optometrist finished out the second half of my exam. The associates were really pushy about me purchasing new frames. When I noted that I wanted to use my old frames and get new lenses, the associate (Andrew) pushed back.
So here it is 5/29. I picked up my glasses today, and another associate (James) who waited on me was also rude. I spent $181.00 and definitely wasted my money. My glasses seem to be too powerful. I will make a private appointment with my last optometrist and repay for better eye care. I would not recommend this place, even if you think it will save you money. So to say, I didn't get the regular pair for two and half weeks and still have not received the sunglasses that they have been paid for two months for.
I have called more times than I can say. They put you on hold for long periods of time, and don't even call you back than they say they will. I even spoke to the area manager and still no glasses. I talked to a manager two weeks ago and she said if the Midwest Lab could not make the glasses that they would credit my card back, and she would give me a call back. Well, no call back. So I called today and no glasses and I haven't even received the credit of $380.00 back. So, yes I'm angry and I am disputing the charge to the card. So I went back to show them it was defective. The second pair was good. The associate told me they were not under warranty. They looked like double cut at the line. Then she proceeded to tell me that the day before when she repaired the screw, the glasses were not like that. I said, “What are you implying?” Then I said, “You better fix them after only 2 weeks or I would call the BBB.”
Can you imagine that she was suggesting that I had cut or something to the lens? I am almost 80 years old. How in the world could I cut the lens? I was so angry at her for implying fraud. We arrived at 5:55 pm and were told we couldn't be seen after 6. I said okay. It was 5:55 pm when we entered the store, at which time 2 out of 3 workers looked at their watches when we arrived.
I dId get the eye exam, bought $300 glasses, and was told I needed to schedule another contact lens appointment. I did for that Friday at 6 pm. I arrived, and everyone looked at their watch. I was told we couldn't be seen by the doctor, that it was too late, and that we didn't have an appointment scheduled anyway. By the way, I left work early for both appointments. I needed to be seen because my daughter only had 2 weeks' worth of lenses left. And I had scheduled it and was there, and it was not my fault we weren't in book.
Doctor **, who greeted us with a dirty white coat, a scowl on his face, and a "want to get out of here" attitude, told my daughter to sit. He never once looked at her. He said he will order trials and to come back when they're in. I said I thought she needed an exam for contacts. "No," he said, "I can go by the eyeglass exam." Then he totally dismissed us. I knew there was a mistake, but we left and figured that he's the expert and knows what he's doing, which was exactly the impression I got from him.
I called 2 weeks later for trials. Of course, no record of trials ordered was even in her folder. I called customer complaint line, which said to go in and that they will have trials. I took off early another day and arrived at 5:50 pm. The woman looked at her watch and yep, again, she said that they don't see anyone after 6 o'clock. "I'm here for trials," I said. Okay. They miraculously found trials, and of course, they were 2.00 and 2.25. My daughter's last prescription was 4.25 and 4.75. I said that was impossible and that it can't be the right prescription. Then one of the staff started telling me that's what the doctor ordered and that's what I'd get.
I made my daughter put in the trials given, and of course, it's fuzzy and she can't see right. The staffer said that's what the doctor felt she needed and that he can't do anything about it. He also said that it's after 6 and the doctor would not see her. At this point, I'm furious and told the guy my nightmare so far. He said sorry and that it's like if a doctor ordered Advil and you want Penicillin and that it's against to law to give me a trial of her old prescription, blah, blah blah.
Well, I think it's against the law to order a prescription that was actually made up out of thin air and to not give proper eye exam, or for that matter, any contact lens eye exam at all. The people at this place of business were extremely rude. Evidently, they didn't like their job and were rude to other customers there as well, which I did notice.
Bottom line is America's Best lost my business, along with the other 15 members of my family, whom I insisted not use this company for their eye needs. Wrong prescription by America's Best Contacts and Eyeglasses - I took my 9-year old daughter in for an eye exam on 10 March 2010 because she was having headaches. When the doctor initiated the exam, he seems to be in a hurry. We knew for a fact that she was having blurred vision in her left eye and she was having trouble seeing from a distance. I went ahead and ordered glassed from America's Best without seeing a prescription because I assumed they knew what they were doing. When I left the store, I still was not given a prescription and was told it would be given to me when I picked up her glasses within 7-10 business days. I was uncomfortable with the way the exam went and with the customer service. Therefore, on 15 March 2012 I took her to another doctor for a second opinion.
When we went to the second doctor, the prescription was completely different for the prescription we received from America's Best. They had given us a prescription that showed that her right eye was her weaker eye and that that she was far sighted. The correct prescription showed that she was weaker in her left eye and near sighted, which was expected. Once I received the second prescription on 15 March 2012, I contacted America's Best and asked them to fax me a copy of the prescription they had for her. When we completed the exam, the optometrist told me she was near sighted but the prescription they faxed me showed that she was far sighted. I compared the prescriptions and notice there was a considerable difference. I then took it over to the optometrist that had just completed her exam and asked them to explain the difference between the two prescriptions. I found out that the prescription given by America's Best was incorrect.
On that same day, I then once again contacted America's Best and spoke to the manager, Erik. He asked if I would fax him a copy of the prescription I received from the second doctor. The only option I was given was that they could remake the glasses with the corrected prescription. I agreed but only if I could receive the glasses in the same time frame as they first promised. He said he would do his best. The next day on 16 March 2012, I called Erik to get an update on the glasses and I was told that the glasses would be in within the 7 to 10 business days from the first order date, which was the 10 March 2010. At this point, I had felt like we resolved the mess caused by America's Best. As I spoke to him today, 21 March 2010. I was told that that the glasses had not been shipped from their lab and he could not give me a date as to when they would be in stating that it would take an additional two weeks because the glasses were ordered a couple of days after the first order.
When I asked for a refund, which was never an option up front, Erik told me yes he could refund minus the $45 exam fee. I explained to him why would I pay for an exam when I was given an incorrect prescription and I could have taken her to a military accepted provider which the exam would have been free. He told me that was my only option. I am looking for some way to make these individuals responsible for not guaranteeing what they promised. As of today, my daughter is still having headaches and I should not have to pay double for her to get glasses. If I go out and purchase another set of glasses, it will be a double fee for me. As of today, we never even received an apology from America's Best for their mistake.

This was the first time I have ever went to America's Best, and it will be the last! First trip was to pick up my glasses. I didn't wear them home, but once I did get home, I couldn't see anything out of either pair. Trip 2 was to take the glasses back. They had made what was supposed to be distance glasses into computer glasses. The doctor at the facility called me a liar when I said that was not what was ordered. So, after going around and around with them, they were sent back to the lab to be done correctly. After these glasses came in, I was still have trouble seeing and reading. I thought I would give it a couple of days and see how things went.
Now, next trip was to a different store, and I asked them to take a look at the bifocal cut. He said these were not correct. Again, it's off to the lab. Now, six weeks later, I just want my money back, so I can end this nightmare. This company is the most unprofessional that I have ever seen. Through all of this, I have not gotten a "We're sorry," "Sucks to be you," or anything. I would not recommend this company to even my worst enemy. I'm not going to spend this kind of money and be treated like this. I don't think it is too much to ask that it be done right the first time.

Because of the price, I use them about four times. There is always a problem each time I went. Always, I had to go back because the prescription was too strong. This last time "as I expected" the prescription was too strong and I had to go back four times. It was still too strong and they had changed the glasses.
At first, I thought they had handed me the wrong glasses, so I told them, “These weren't mine.” She told me they were mine. I said, “No, these weren't the frames I picked out.” She got an attitude with me and insisted those were my frames. I described the frames that I had picked and said these don't look anything like them that I wouldn't even have picked out those frames. Then she got very hateful and said, “Those are the ones you picked.” I told her, “I wasn't stupid and I know what frames I picked and those weren't it.”
So she said very hateful, “Is the prescription right?” I tried them on and said no they are still too strong. So she said, “You will have to wear them a couple of weeks.” I told her I drive for a living and that I wasn't wearing anything that I couldn't see well through. She said, “You have to wear them for a couple of weeks this time,” before they would fix them again. I told her I'm not going to get out there on that road and kill myself or anybody else just to please her. I told her, “First, you make the prescription too strong, and then you change the frames and wouldn't even admit it. Then you expect me to just take the glasses and just be happy with them.” She just smirked at me and said, “Those are your glasses.” This time I got angry and I told her I was tired of their garbage and I wasn't going to go through it every time I needed glasses that I wanted a full refund right then and there. I wouldn't be returning anymore. Her mouth dropped open and she had a shocked look on her face. Maybe I was angrier than I thought I was but anyway she gave me a full refund.
My sister went there one time and they changed her glasses too and it took her six months to get her glasses. She didn't want to argue with them. She just took the glasses and never went back. I don't recommend anybody going there but if you do take a picture of your glasses and don't expect for them to get it right the first time.

After 2 weeks, I went back and they admitted that they forgot the bifocals in the glasses. They sent them out again and I waited 2 more weeks and no glasses. I called to check on my glasses and I found out that the lab didn't even get the order. I finally received my glasses today, March 9th, and the best they could do is take 15 % off of what I paid. My vision was no better with contacts or without contacts. I told them I wanted contacts to take the place of glasses. What a joke, I still have the contacts. I was very upset. I paid $114.00 for that visit. On Oct. 29, 2011, I was back at the store. They did a follow-up exam and I purchased one biofinity and one biofinity tonic. I paid $82.91, not worth one penny. The contacts were useless. On Feb. 11, I decided to get new glasses and order them every time I went. The person who examined my eyes told me I could not see far away and I could see up close. I told her I see far away just fine, but can not see up close. The prescription in the glasses were blurred and I could not see far away or up close. I could not wear them.
For 40 years, the vision in my right eye is 20/90. They told me it is 20/40. She said, "I am giving you a prescription for a 54-year old", not by my vision. I contacted the main office and on Feb. 26, I received a check for full refund. The glasses cost $219.55. Do not go there, they are so hateful.

I thought how could my other doctors be wrong all those years and I was able to wear contacts with no problems.
I looked online and it even said they were in the wrong eye. The dominant eye should be distance! I called for an appointment and she had the receptionist call me back and tell not to come in she would just order another trail set (I had lost one) I told them, I wanted to see her because I thought they should be switched and she said she'd order a set of each. My name is Mark, and my girlfriend and I have had the worse experience ever, when it comes to America's Best. I purchased two pairs of glasses last year, at the store in Colorado Springs, CO. I went in, because of the special that they always have advertised. What should have cost me $100, ended up costing me $300. I ordered one pair of regular glasses, and then the other pair were sunglasses. I found out that I have to have bifocals, so I made both pairs that way, since I am a truck driver and need them for both day and night. I paid for all the extras, such as scratch resistance. I waited a couple weeks for them to come in. They stated that they would call when they were, which they never did. I had to call, and so did my girlfriend, to see if they were in. Once they were in, my girlfriend and I had to take a trip to Colorado Springs, since we live an hour and a half away, only to find that the sunglasses were not right.
In the center of one of the lens, there was a spot that did not have the full coating on it. I had to have them send for a new pair. When looking at my regular glasses, the employee opened the frames, and the lens fell out. He stated that he did tighten it, and assured us that they would be fine. Once we got home, the lens fell out once again, but upon trying to fix them, we found the screw to be stripped, and we're not able to keep it tightened. I called the store, and they said that when they send us the new sunglasses, that they would send us new screws for them. A couple weeks later, my sunglasses came in the mail with additional screws. After trying on my sunglasses, I found that once again they were not right. One lens was darker than the other. Also, the screws that they sent were at least 1/8 inch long, too long for my frames. I ended up having to super glue the frames, to keep the lens in place, due to it being stripped as well.
I contacted the store to tell them that my sunglasses were not right. When I talked to them, I asked if I could just switch my sunglasses frame to the frames that my regular glasses were in. They said they could do that, and they would call when they were ready. I just had to bring the other with me to turn them in. Once they were in, my girlfriend and I had to take yet another trip to Colorado Springs to pick them up. After leaving the store and wearing my new sunglasses, I noticed that in the line of sight were some numbers. I called the store and told them, that they were messed up again, and explained to them the deal. They said that it was the law to have those numbers there. They were the water mark for the bifocals. I asked why they had to be put in the line of vision, and by this time, the employees, including manager, were becoming rude.
All they would keep telling me is that it was the law for it to be put there. I became irate with the way the manager talked to me, and told him that I did not feel that he was being very professional, only to have him hang up on me. I called back and asked for the corporate number, and called them, only to be treated very much the same way. After my experience with that store, I chose to transfer to the Pueblo store. They were very nice and helpful in the beginning. I explained my dilemma to them, and how I was treated, and the manager reassured me that they would correct everything for me. My girlfriend and I sat in the Pueblo store for at least three hours, waiting for the other store to fax my records over.
In the meantime, I went ahead and had my girlfriend get her eyes checked, and purchase glasses. What also was only supposed to be a $100 purchase, very easily became a $300 one. Once they took my order to fix my sunglasses, due to them becoming severely scratched, with the scratch resistance coating on them, and placing my girlfriend's order, we left. They informed us that they would call us, and let us know, but we had to continue to call and find out. I was unable to go with her to pick them up, but when she picked them up, they told her that they also ordered my regular glasses as well, using my warranty for it. I did not ask for that. They would not give my glasses to my girlfriend, because I was not able to turn my other ones in at that time. When I spoke to the manager regarding this, she became rude and told me she would no longer talk to me.
By this time, I am irate because of the customer service I have received with not just one store, but two. My girlfriend left, and later found that on the top of her sunglasses, was a small crack, but she just tried to ignore it, as well as her sunglasses frames did not fit her face the way they did in the store. At the beginning of January 2012, my scratched up scratch resistance glasses were too scratched for me to see through, so I decided that I would go ahead and pick up my other glasses. My girlfriend also wanted to exchange her sunglasses, using her warranty, so that the frames matched her regular glasses. I took her sunglasses, and went to Pueblo, only to find out that they messed up on the order for my regular glasses, and made them lined bifocals. I had to go ahead and take them, so that I could see, but they stated they would order the correct ones for me. They would call when they were ready, and it would take approximately 7 to 14 days.
After about 10 days, my girlfriend called to check, and they said that they were not in, and that it took 7 to 14 days. She waited another week, and called again only to be told the same thing. She explained that it had already been over two weeks. All they would say is that it takes 7 to 14 days. She waited another week, and called only to be told the same thing again. In this time that we are waiting for our glasses to come in, I have had to deal with glasses that I could not get used to. Due to the line in the middle, I tripped and fell, and my glasses flew off my face only to become severely messed up. I have to continue my job, in which I drive all day and sometimes night without being able to see. I still have my sunglasses, but I am unable to wear them at night. I have more headaches and my eyes hurt constantly.
My girlfriend called today, 2/9/12, to check the status, only to be told that they were not in, and that it would take 3 to 4 weeks. When she told me this, I became upset and decided to call myself. I asked for the manager, and when she got on the phone, the first thing she said was that she was too busy to talk to me. She said that she had told my girlfriend she would call when she found something out regarding our glasses, then hung up. My girlfriend never received a call today. I am so displeased with this service. If anyone else has had the same experience, and would like to take further action, feel free to contact us at **. This is the only way that we can put a stop to how this company treats their customers.

Last December, I decided to go to America's Best for contact lenses, and glasses exam. I had a bad experience from another eye doctor, who gave me the wrong prescription the prior year. I explained this to the eye doctor at America's Best. She was very sweet, so I thought I had made the right choice in going there. I was wrong. First, she kept giving me sample lenses for mono vision, even though week after week, I explained that they were not working for me. Every time I went in to see her, she said she had a migraine. I don't think she could focus at all to give me the proper exam. Several visits later, I finally got another eye doctor. She ordered several pairs of bifocal contact lenses for me to test. It took a few more visits to find the right one from what she had ordered for me to try. I also purchased glasses.
I picked up the glasses, which took about 2 weeks to come in, and by the time I got home, the lens cracked upon walking in my front door, from the cold air to the warm air. I went back again the next day, and also told the eye doc that I didn't think the script was right for the glasses. She re-checked me, and said she was changing the prescription for the glasses on both eyes. Again, another week or so went by. When the glasses finally came in, I mentioned that the doctor had changed the script on both eyes, and the woman dispensing them told me that the doctor had not done that, and that there were no changes, just the new lens replacement for the cracked one. I went back, yet again, for another recheck (at least 8 times I was in there, arguing about my contacts and glasses) and told the doctor I couldn't see mid range, or close up, so something was definitely wrong with my glasses.
She re-checked my eyes, and said the script was right. She blamed it on the frames I ordered (from them), and said they were "too small". I found that frustrating, since the lenses were the same size as my old glasses, and I could see mid range and close up with those. I just had severe distant issues with them. No one would listen to me, so I finally gave up. I've had a pair of $400 glasses, that have not been used, because America's Best didn't want to hear that someone made a mistake on my lenses. Last week, I went back to America's Best for my yearly exam (only because I prepaid for it with some program they had, or I never would have stepped foot in America's Best again). I figured I'd just get my check-up, and then order my contacts elsewhere, and be done with them forever.
I got a different eye doctor again, and mentioned what happened with the glasses. His English was poor, but he told me that I needed new lenses, because the "balance" was off on mine (he never saw the glasses, but seemed to be able to tell this from my exam, and whatever was written in my many pages of records). My husband was with me in the exam room, and I asked this doctor 3 times if he was sure I needed new lenses. He said yes. I told him since they made the error, then they should replace the lenses at no cost. He said no, and then acted like he didn't want any part of what I was saying. I asked him again if I needed new lenses, and he said yes.
The next day, I thought about what he said, and felt that wasn't fair. I called the store, and got the customer service number (I had asked for the corporate number, but they would only give me the customer service number). I knew the store wouldn't help me, so I went above them. The first woman who tried to help me called the store, and the manager said because it had been over a year, they would not replace my lenses. They didn't seem to care that I had complained that I couldn't see out of them properly when I went for my re-check. They were satisfied somehow that it was my fault that I can't see through their glasses.
I was so upset because I've never been able to wear the glasses, and even told them that when they were given to me, and no one helped me. I asked for a supervisor. She was a nice woman, who did try to help. She called the store manager again with my plight. When the nice woman called me back, she told me that the doctor never wrote anything in my record about needing new lenses, and no one at the store knew what "balance" meant, with needing to be changed. I was also told that this doctor was just a "fill in" at their store, thereby basically negating him as being credible. Shouldn't the fact that I can't wear their glasses be credible enough?
I'm so disgusted that nobody at America's Best seems to know what they are doing. Three doctors now have told me three different things. Each one is in awe, when they see my records (even customer service was), and how many times I had to go back for contacts and glasses issues. Yet, I still don't have a pair of glasses I can use, and paid a lot of money. The new doctor is even changing my contact lenses, because he doesn't feel the ones they gave me, give me optimum vision, and he is right about that.
I will never go to America's Best again. I am going to go to another eye doctor, and find out exactly what is wrong with the glasses they sold me, and fight them for my money back for the glasses. I would warn everyone not to trust their doctors and staff. They have no idea what they are doing. I've suffered visually now for over a year, thanks to America's Best. They are not America's best, for sure.

But since I’m in the military and currently on active duty, it had been difficult to change my subscription. I did receive trials 3 weeks ago. I decided that I need to schedule an exam, because before we go to the firing range, after getting the exam, the doctor told me I have a scratch on my cornea. I am considering Lasik surgery so I won’t have to deal with the unprofessionalism and the hassles at this store.
They said I had to purchase 2 boxes of the new contacts before they would give me my trials for the new subscription. I asked them what if the subscription doesn’t work. I found that strange because the store in GA didn’t have this policy. Well, anyway she said they would switch it out for the correct subscription as long as I didn’t open the box. It turns out they didn’t have the trials and consequently needed to order them. I asked them if I could have some of my contacts so I wouldn’t have to wear expired contacts. She said, “We don’t give any more trials.”
So, I asked the manager Gwen and she stated, “I can’t help you and you came in here with expired contacts.” I asked the manager for her last name and she told me she didn’t have to give me her last name, because I want to make a formal complaint. I explained to her that I don’t have the luxury of coming in here because I’m currently on active duty. When I was stationed at FT. Gordon, they never seemed to be able to find my chart. I purchased an extended warranty which took care of the scratches. Fast forward two months, it's the same problem. I had scratches all over them again.
By the way, my job consists of sitting at a computer most of the day. I called the store and complained. They stated that the warranty only covered replacement one time. They wanted me to purchase another pair of glasses. I continued to complain about the scratches. They went so far as to tell me that I must have some kind of acid in my skin that eats away the protective coating on the glasses. Can you believe that?
I've been wearing glasses for over 25 years; this is the first pair that I've ever had problems with the protective coating. This is also the first (and last) time I purchased glasses from America's Best. When I complained again, they offered to sell me another pair of glasses with a 20 percent discount. I will never buy another pair of glasses from this place. Additionally, they need to be investigated for their bogus products.

I went to purchase 2 pairs in Nov 2010. They convinced me to get the anti-glare coating on both. Upon wearing the primary pair, and using soft cotton cleaning cloth, the lenses became ridiculously scratched and hazed within about 6 weeks. They are also impossible to clean.
I returned to the Robinson PA location, and complained that I never wanted this. So they made me a new pair (glass lenses) and said I could keep the ** pair too, but didn't refund me the coating price.
The second pair at 2 mos old fell off my face onto my kitchen counter and the frame cracked. I took this pair back (April 2011, by the time I got there) and they no longer have the frames! So I ended up with a less desirable pair that I had to pick from the same price range.
2 weeks ago, I was just opening the sides to put them on my head. The right side had gradually gotten stiffer and stiffer to open, and the frame cracked on the right side on the top towards the right. The lens fell out. Now, I'm using the back up pair again.
Upon inspecting the frame, they are not even Dollar store quality readers. They are flimsy, rubbery plastic junk, Jhane Barnes brand **, an invented designer from China, no doubt. I took them back today, Guess what? "We don't have that frame"? Now my expensive glass photo gray lenses are in the trash! The clerk said I could order a new pair! Why, sure I could. Never buy this ** from America's Best. It is embarrassing that they use the name America, pushing off bait and switch type sales and low quality goods. Shame on you, ABC!
I tried to find the frames myself online. I couldn't find that particular frame but others by the same brand were in the $125 to $150 range, I will never return!

Awful! Wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy!
I just got back from my third trip to the Bolingbrook, IL location to pick up my second pair of glasses. The first time of the techs burnt my lens trying to adjust my frame. I was then told that new lenses were put on rush order and it would only take a couple of days for them to come in and in the mean time I could "rock the first pair". I ended up waiting another week. When I finally got my glasses back I noticed that there were scratches all over the right lens, really?! I took them back again and asked for some kind of compensation for the hassle they had put me through.
The store's not exactly on my way home. Their tech just kept repeating sorry in a persnickety tone of voice that made my blood boil. I asked for the number for corporate and she handed me a card with the store number on it. No, I said corporate, you **. I have been wearing glasses for nearly 25 years and I have never experienced this level of incompetence anywhere. Glad I didn't get an exam there. Who knows what kind of quack optometrists this place hires?

I took both daughters in at separate times. One daughter had to go through 4 visits for her contacts and glasses, because they never ordered her sample contacts. And then when they finally did order, they were the wrong lenses! So we had another 2 weeks of waiting and another 2-hour visit to see the doctor for 2 minutes to "sign off" on the prescription so she could order them.
The second daughter has a whole new bad experience! We were in the store for 4 hours, trying to order her glasses, and the eyewear tech could not operate the system! Then, her order was never placed, lost, or whatever. They kept coming up with excuses. I called daily for a week, working with the store manager who assured me her glasses would be in within a day or 2, because she phoned the lab and that we would be called as soon as they arrived. 5 weeks later, my daughter called to check, and they told her the glasses had been in for a couple of days! No one called to tell us they were even in! We still have not been able to order her contacts, because the doctor has not been able to "sign off" on the contact script yet!

I took the glasses back to the store where purchased and was told they could do nothing because the glasses were over 1 year old. I did not expect new glasses. I just expected to have this film removed but your clerk was unwilling to do anything. I took my son for an eye exam and purchased two pairs of glasses, on Dec. 28, 2011, at America’s Best Opticals, in Westminster, MD. On January 11, 2012, I called the office asking why I hadn't been contacted about my son's glasses being ready. After 5 minutes waiting, the girl on the phone said yes, they were there and ready. Why didn't you call me? Oh, sorry, they’re ready now.
My son went over 30 minutes later to get them, and tried them on, and told them something isn't right. My left eye is good. My right is messed up. After telling them no, it isn't me, something is wrong, the doctor came over laughing and said, “Oh, I wrote the wrong prescription down.” I now wonder what the credentials of this doctor are and I intend to find out. What kind of professional laughs at this mistake?

I went back up and she looked at me crazy when I asked, "Do you need my insurance card?" I said, you did not asked. I guess cause I was a black male or since the store is in a black areas, she figures everybody who comes in will just want the two pair for $69.
I sat back down and said wow. I got my exam and then went to pick my glasses. I was called by the Salesman (John). Minimal conversation, tapped on the computer and said, "Okay your down, see you back in 7-10 days." I said, "What about all the extras?" He said, "What extras." I said, "Well, I know I want transitions lenses because I had them before." He said, "I guess you want them next time I completed your order". I said, "No, you did not try to up sell me anything or even explain to me options for my glasses. He got up and did not say a word, was gone for 15 minutes and came back with a manual. He was reading the manual to try to figure out how to change the order. He finally had to ask for help. He said, "Anything else you want?" I said, you're the expert, I am not sure what you have to offer". He still did not explain any other services.
When I got home I sent a complaint to their corporate email. The assistant manager called and apologized. This will be the last time I ever go there. Going to pick up my glasses today, we will see.

First, I asked about the two pair of glasses for the $69.00 that were being advertised. The lady says it depends on your insurance. So because I had insurance, I couldn't get that. So she called insurance to see what they cover and she says they cover around 2 for the frames, so she was like get you a nice pair. I put the one back I had that cost $50.00 and got some that cost $150.00. I have never been so discussed before. After it was all said and done, I had to pay $80 out of pocket and they didn't check my eyes before or after giving me glasses which should be against the law. It was a ripoff, they used the script I got from Walmart to make the glasses, which I can accept but no eye test with the glasses on was wild. I won't ever go back there for nothing.
Normally, you get something to clean your glasses with. They gave nothing but the glasses and the container and sent me on my way. Then I got a paper in the mail saying insurance was short in paying total fee. I knew when they had this statement at the bottom that you are responsible for what the insurance don't cover sound fishy because if you call to verify, what ever they say is what I thought they do. That should be against the law. This is theft. It's sad what people do these days.

Warning to all! Some of the things I have seen from this Americas Best and what they get away with totally baffles me, child like behavior from employees even in front of patients. At this America's Best, I warn all, unless you don't mind the 50/50 chance of being treated differently for whatever reason (race, sex, sexual preference, appearance, etc), and/or are comfortable walking into a medical business where the manager doesn't know nothing, (has to ask how to print paper), huffs and puffs like a 2 year old, watch her and her gay employee flirt and chit chat about god knows what, then don't come to Columbia Missouri America's best!
I will commend the doctor who seems very polite, patient and professional. I also commend what they call the "pretester", she seems very sweet and the other staff there (anyone who is not the manager or an optician, I had come across the receptionist, ups man, and janitor) as well seem willing to help and please. Avoid: the opticians and manager! They don't care, they don't listen, and they are greedy! All they care about is how much money they can get from you! Do not go to this store! I have worn glasses for years and have been through many exams and into many optometrists offices. I have never dealt with anyone in a customer-service related field that acts such as they do. I am a single mom with limited funds and only needed glasses to give my eyes a rest from contacts. My first issue was that, though I was seen promptly at my regularly scheduled appointment time for my exam, I was just slid a paper and told that "the doctor recommends this test" and instructed to "sign here." I read it and signed it but did not notice until after that it was optional and also an extra fee. I politely refused it at that point.
Then, I went and waited for the doctor who arrived a short time later. I finished up my exams and waited a full 40 minutes for anyone to even approach me about frames. It was 10:00 a.m., not like it was during a busy time. Plus, I scheduled an appointment and was not a walk-in. One girl was chatting up another customer but I was apparently invisible. Finally, a woman walked over and asked if "I'd decided on the frames I wanted." Well, I actually had a few questions. After the wait, then the pushy up selling that came after, I was furious. I have a strong prescription, but the frames I purchased did not need premium lenses nor extra services. I was told the lenses wouldn't stay in and that I needed all of those things.
A regular UV coating and Anti-Glare is $70 there! Walmart does UV coating and Anti-Glare for $45. The final kicker for me was that someone gave me a gift certificate for $105, which was a little bit over what I purchased. Loudly and to my embarrassment, I was told, "We don't give change for gift certificates." Thank you for making me feel like it was announced to the store that I was paying for it with a gift certificate and acting as if I was trying to get the money back from it. We are talking about $8. I informed her that I didn't expect change back and inquired if I was "allowed" to purchase glasses cases with the remaining and that they could absolutely keep the remaining dollar. Customer service sucks. Don't go there looking for any kind of assistance because their staff does not intend to provide any.

I have no complaint about the glasses themselves. I imagined that they are as good as any comparably-priced glasses from other stores. But that is the catch. They market the "two for $69.99" deal to get the gullible in the door, with big posters all over the store. But the real price for decent glasses is written nowhere. Once you're hooked in and had the eye exam, the salesperson lets you know that the advertised glasses are really substandard (crack easily, scratch easily, not as well made) and the upgrade is a much better deal, the price only being quickly mumbled, not clearly written out.
But then, they also catch you with the gimmick that if you want the better quality--or what would really be just appropriate quality in an ethically run business--the cost is significantly higher. And the way they arrange the pricing, if you want just one pair instead of two to try to save money, by the time you add in the extra cost for the exam and other fees, it ends up being about three times the advertised cost. The whole thing is a cleverly concocted, manipulative money scam. They know exactly what they are doing. All in all, I would rather have paid the same price at a business that is straight-forward about the cost and doesn't insult the customers with this cynical game.

After wearing them for a little while, I still couldn't tolerate the discomfort of the lenses in my eyes. So, I was going to return them to the store and get a refund on my money. The next time, I went back to the store. There was another doctor, a male this time. He said that he would give me another type of lens that was a little less expensive. They felt okay.
After wearing them for about 1 hour, my eyesight had gotten cloudy. I thought something was wrong with my eyes. So, I took them out. I washed my eyes out with water. It took a while before my vision became normal, so I thought. I gave it a few days. And then, I tried them out again. It was a little cloudy, but not as much this time. After a few days of wearing the contacts, my vision started getting blurry. This has been going on for a few days. So, I stopped using the contacts for a few more days. My vision was still blurring at times.
I contacted my medical doctor, because I didn't understand what was happening to my eyes. I told my doctor that something was going on with my eyes, because my vision was blurry on several occasions. I told him that my eye felt like I had a film over them. I was really concerned. He didn't know that I had gotten new contact lenses about a month before. I hadn't mentioned it to him, because I just thought something was happening with my eyes. My doctor gave me a script to get an MRI, as well as to see an eye doctor to check my eyes.
I received a letter in the mail dated 8/19/11. It informed me that there was a recall on the contact lenses that I purchased, along with some other lenses. They also put in the letter the same symptoms that I had complained to my doctor about hazy and blurry vision, and discomfort. I called the store regarding the letter I received and asked to speak with the doctor regarding this situation. I was told that he wasn't available and he would call me later. That never happened.
I received a call from one of the associates from the store, trying to get me to hurry up and bring the contact lenses back to the store. They said that they would replace them free of charge. In addition, they would give me a free three month supply (2 boxes) of lenses. With the doctor never returning my call, I asked the associate what I should do about my vision being blurry from time to time. All she said was, "If you bring the boxes in asap, we'll give you three free months of lenses." I missed my MRI appointment due to the hurricane. I was in New York. But I do have an eye doctor appointment on September 19, 2011 to get my eyes re-examined.

Let's just say that I will never go there again. When we first walked in, we were not greeted. After my daughter's exam, I was not told about the extra charge for her prescription. We had gone in for the two pair special of $69. The employee didn't even bother to go over the billing until I had asked her about the prescription and where we were on the billing. I felt obligated to just purchase the glasses for my daughter as she needed them and school was about to start. I slept on it and decided the next morning that I was going to cancel my order because of the way we were treated and because they did not explain anything about the prescription or costs. I ended up having to pay for the exam but I feel better knowing that I can take that somewhere else where we can be appreciated.

I just called America's Best to find out when my other pair of glasses would be in. They put Brian on the phone, the eyeglass specialist, so he says. He proceeded to tell me that my eyeglasses were broken in the lab. He told me that they were a discontinued frame and they wouldn't be able to get it anymore. He wanted me to come back and pick out another frame. Are you kidding me? I told him that I live fifty miles away. I told him I am not coming back to pick out another pair of glasses. Someone should have called me and told me that my glasses had been destroyed in the lab.
The young lady that was helping me with the prescription should have told me that one of the pair that I had was being discontinued. She didn't. I don't think that was very nice. I think that it was downright deceitful! I don't appreciate being taken advantage of. And there is nothing that they can do to fix it. Brian told me that he wants me to come in and pick out another pair, so that he can put a rush on it and I can have my glasses. I might go in on Saturday to see him. But if I do, my attorney will be on speed dial on my cell phone.
All I want is my prescription and the rest of my money back for the glasses that I didn't receive. I'm not going back to pick up glasses that should have already been ready. This is week three. This is really ridiculous. Gas is too high to be driving up and down a road more than one time for a business who should have done their job right the first time. Next time, I will do more investigating on where I am going to get my eyes done. I will get glasses somewhere else. When I used them last year for my son, they were wonderful. Something has happened to them and it is not good. There are too many people going in. There is not enough time with the optometrist to get a good eye exam. He's the only trained professional in the entire establishment. The rest of them are from somewhere else and who knows where. They have not been to school for any training on how to fit you for your glasses. I wouldn't recommend them to anyone else ever again. I am completely dissatisfied!

I went in for 2 pairs of glasses and free eye exam as advertised on TV for $69.95 on 8-9-2011 around 3:45PM. I was given the eye exam and was told that I had to pay for the eye exam. Additionally, I was asked to pay for the glasses which cost over $200 for both glasses. I couldn't believe it and asked why? The girl said, "because your prescription is higher than single vision". I said, "Why, I don't have bi or trifocals?" I had to pay $49 for the eye exam which was supposed to be free. I think they should have told me there would be a charge for the exam if the results from the eye exam were at a certain level, but they didn't. So I paid for the exam only and left.

I went into the location and had my appt. which was fine. I did the 2 glasses for $69.95. Well they never called me when my glasses came in or told me that one of my pairs of glasses was destroyed when shipped. So I came in on my own and picked out another pair to be shipped back to the store. No phone call again. I showed up there 3 weeks later, to find out that my glasses had been sitting there for over a week.
They were very unapologetic about my experience. I was then asked to wait to see someone to get them fitted and recieve my prescription (so I can go elsewhere from now on) I waited for 45 min. no one came up to me or called my name and the place was empty. Finally I went up to the counter and the lady said..."Oh yeah, I will check to see if anyone is available" as they all were standing around. I have never in my life recieved such terrible service. BTW...I still haven't recieved my glasses.

I was skimming through many of the complaints and I felt compelled to join in. ABCE is like many other profit-driven corporations that care neither about its customers nor employees.
My attraction to the company was the fantastic pay and bonus structure. Unfortunately, I found this type of practice dangerous. On a typical Saturday, I could see 35-50 patients! That is a ridiculous and phenomenal number of people. I think any optometrist would admit that there is no way you can provide a complete and comprehensive eye exam if you are seeing patients at a rate of one patient every seven to eight minutes. The pace was outrageous. In addition, we were strongly encouraged to suggest products and lens features to patients to help with sales. These doctors are no independent entities in most cases. Indeed, you get what you pay for. A free eye exam is one you should walk away from.
I also wanted to share that during my stay at ABCE, I became very familiar with their business practices. The frame stylist (because they aren't opticians), is instructed and pressured to limit the number of two for $69 sales they have. In fact, a low sales average can lead to demotion or dismissal. These workers do earn a commission and at the time I believe is was a grand 1%.
Like many other chain opticals, the staff are very overworked and sorely untrained. I think consumers would be horrified to learn that one day a person could be working at a shoe store and the very next day be sitting across you, supposedly advising you about the health care of your eyes. One of the worse things I ever witnessed was a salesperson essentially lying to a patient telling her that transition lenses will prevent her from developing glaucoma.
The entire time I worked for this company, my conscience ate at me. I eventually decided to leave. The employment contract required 60-day notice and if you left before the 60 days, you were financially responsible for any remaining time you didn't complete! Needless to say, it made finding another job very difficult. I eventually broke this contract for fear that I would lose my license. I make it my business to tell people not to give this company your business or professional skills.
One last thing, most of the optometrist who practice at these stores are great doctors who are forced into this mode of practice by every rising education debt. I was one of them. I think very few optometrists go through all eight years (college + optometry school) schooling to work in such a horrible place.

As a follow-up to the complaint I filed yesterday, I went in and instead of talking with an Optical Technician (salesperson), I chatted with the Licensed Optician, whatever that is. Anyway, he immediately knew what my complaint was. The glasses have no intermediate range and therefore anything within say 4 feet to 12 inches was a blur. I had my old glasses with me and he checked the prescription on them and gave me a couple of options. One was going with the no-line type of bifocal or getting trifocals.
Either one, I was told, would provide me with the intermediate range I wanted. Greg then proceeded to cost out the new lens with the trifocals and with an additional $30. Since I needed the new glasses and everything, I agreed to try the trifocals. I will know within a week if it was the correct decision I made. I was offered a refund for the glasses only and the exam would be deducted from the monies I paid them. I'll use that option if the new glasses don't work.

I had my eyes checked and was told by the doctor that my eyes hadn't changed much since my last check, which was over 5 years ago. I was wearing bifocals when I came in and ordered the bifocals again from them, as the glasses from the last company I used were less than perfect for me.
Anyway, I have had the glasses now for a week, and still, I am having problems focusing on objects within 3 feet of me. They're great for seeing distance and reading, but in between, they are totally useless. Anyone who has worn bifocals knows the hazards of going down the stairs and how you sometimes need to look through the bifocals to step correctly. With these glasses, I can't safety navigate stairs; and at 70 years of age, that is a really a hazard. I will be taking them back today and asking for a refund or new glasses that I can use. I will report back on the results of this visit for all to see.
There are economic damages. This will depend on the results I receive on my visit today. I paid a total of $318 for 2 pairs. One pair I had made into a sunglass style and expected to pay more for that. The other is for everyday use, and I still can't see out of them from a distance of say 2 feet to about 6 feet. Long distances are OK.

I have made one comment and after just talking to these people, I felt that I would make another. I cannot believe how nasty people are as well as how stupid some can be at the questions they ask. It seems that in most places now, the customer is never right anymore and the company doesn't even care--this is sad. I owned several businesses in my day and never did I treat others like so many do these days and I wonder how they are able to stay in business. I wish I could get some of these companies to hire me to come and speak to employees about how they should treat customers as well as their fellow workers. And I would be willing to bet that I could bring their business profits up by at least 30%. Anyone out there wanting to give me a try, I am willing and will do it for free and only ask for a percentage of the gross I bring you. I can do it.
When someone tells you that they will put your order in and speed it up so that you can have your eyeglasses before you go on vacation, you expect it to happen, but so many times, it's just a big bunch of talk to get you to buy. They make a huge profit on glasses anyway and when I say huge, I mean huge. At least be honest with people and at least have a corporate Web page so that one like myself can call. I looked for a corporate Web page and couldn't find one--this raises a big flag for me and for everyone else. I have seen many complaints about this business and I would think that corporate office would want to fix it, wouldn't you? How about it, corporate? Do you all take a look at these complaints or are you too greedy to worry about them?
If you see them and you see my email me, let's talk. I don't want to see any more businesses go down the tubes, but if this continues, it will be like many others--a closed shop. Because people are not going to put up with it. They would rather pay a higher price and get the service they should already be receiving from you and this goes for all companies and businesses. I had a man tell me one time that he didn't believe in God but he did believe the bible. He put its principles to work and became a multimillionaire in a year's time starting out with only $6 to his name.
Finally, thank God he ended up finding out that the bible was truth and so was the one who inspired it. The bible does work and it has a lot of power. It not only tells us how to treat each other, but it also tells us how to be prosperous. All I ask is take these complaints seriously and do something about them. Make people want to come to your companies. I mean, that is what you want, isn't it? Thank you.

I scheduled an appointment at America's Best located at the Northway Mall in the North Hills area of Pittsburgh, PA. When making the appointment, I asked the receptionist precisely what the 2 for $69.95 deal entailed. She stated that the special included 2 pairs of single vision $49.00 plastic frames and lenses, along with the free eye exam. Now, I am also a contact lens wearer and I asked her if the exam for contacts was included and she said "Yes." I also asked that if I wanted to take my contact prescription to another (less expensive) dealer, would that be okay? She answered "Of course. "
When I arrived for my appointment the following week, I again asked the girl who had me fill out my information form about the 2 for $69 deal. I told her that I was there to have exams for both contacts and eyeglasses and that I would not be ordering contacts at this time, since my old glasses were broken and that my need for the glasses was more immediate. I asked her point "I am having the exams for both contacts and eyeglasses and would only be ordering the glasses for now, how much will I be charged today? " To which she replied "$69.95. " I emphasized my concern by saying, "Okay, so I am getting the exam for both contacts and glasses for a total of $69.95, correct?" She answered "Yes".
So, I went back to wait for the optometrist to give me the exam and waited approximately 20 minutes, which was ridiculous since there was only 1 person ahead of me. I finally was called in by a young lady and she sat me down and went over my reason for being there. At that time, she stated that all eye doctors recommend another test (to guard against macular degeneration and some other fancy terms) and that it would only cost an additional $15.00. I declined that offer. While with this person, I again voiced my concern about the deal that was offered (2 for $69) by asking her the same question I asked the girl who had me fill out my information "I am having the exams for both contacts and eyeglasses and would only be ordering the glasses for now, how much will I be charged today? " This girl also replied "You will be charged $69.95 for the exam. "
After that, I was asked to step back into the waiting room to wait for the doctor to call me in. Now, I have worn corrective lenses (both glasses and contacts) for over 35 years and this was the quickest eye exam I have ever had. In total, I was in and out of her chair in less than 10 minutes.
Once the exam was finished she asked me to step back out to the main area and pick out which frames I wanted and that someone would be with me shortly. I picked out both pairs of frames (from their pathetic supply) and was called over by the same girl who initially checked me in. She began typing the information off of the frames and, while doing so, she stated that "You will be needing the "thin" lenses similar to the ones on display, these plastic lenses are not really appropriate, you will want the polymer lenses. So, for the two pairs of glasses, that will be $201.00". I was floored! I asked why so much? She answered "The plastic lenses are easily scratched, thicker, heavy, and more prone to damage and they are an additional cost." I emphatically said "No, I am here for the deal offered and I am not going to pay for something that should be included in your special price." Note: When I first talked to the receptionist while making my appointment days before, I was told specifically that the $69 deal does include the polymer lenses, and that the only lenses that cost extra are bifocals, trifocals, and transition lenses.
After a roll of her eyes and a heavy sigh, she did some more typing and finally said "Okay, so your total today will be $139.90. " Again, I nearly hit the ceiling and said "But your special quoted $69.95 for 2 pairs of single vision glasses plus a free eye exam. " She replied "Yes, but you had exams for both glasses and contacts. " I said, "That's true, but you told me before that the exam for both was included in the special price." She answered "No, that's not what I told you. I told you that the exam for the glasses was included, but that you would have to pay for an additional exam for the contact prescription." I was now really upset with her, so she called her manager over and I again explained to her what questions I asked when I first arrived and I also told her what I was told by not 1 but 2 of her employees. The manager (Erika) was noticeably bothered by the whole thing and she breathed a heavy sigh and simply said "Just give them to him."
So, the other girl rang up the total, which came to $69.95. Prior to her beginning the payment process, I asked if I could get a hard copy of both prescriptions since I like keeping them for my records in case anything were to happen while traveling, etc. She said "Sure, I will get those for you." She rose and went over to talk to the manager, then came back with only my eyeglass prescription. I asked where my contacts prescription was and she said "Well, since you are not ordering contacts from us at this time, we aren't legally obligated to give that to you." Now, going way back to the beginning, I was told that I could have a copy of my contacts prescription by the receptionist when I made my appointment!
In the end, I only paid $69.00 and walked out the door. After taking some time to cool off, I called back over and spoke to Erika, the manager, and again asked for my contacts prescription. She again stated that she was not legally obligated to give that to me since 1) "You didn't pay for it" and 2) "You didn't order any contacts from us." I then told her that I would be back in their store for a full refund. I then returned to their place and met her. She was very cold and business like, pushing items around on the desk in a disgruntled fashion. She was extremely rude in the manner in which she refunded the charges back on to my credit card and then had the audacity to ask if I had brought the eyeglasses prescription with me!
Since this fiasco, I have done some research online about this company and the numerous complaints being filed against them. I was simply shocked to see how many other people have the exact same bait-and-switch complaint that I have. I agree with Greg (from an earlier posting) Jane from AB is dead wrong! It is not made very clear at all that only the plastic lenses are included in the $69.95 deal. Also, I was told face to face by representatives of this store that polymers were included in the special price and that I would only be paying one price for the eye exam for both contacts and glasses.
Thankfully, I was lucky enough to get out when I did. From what I have read regarding other complaints, I'm thoroughly convinced that my prescription glasses would have been wrong, or that there would have been something else to deal with once I received them. A word to the wise. Stay away from America's Best!

I had my first appointment in mid december for my eye examination and my glasses were to be ready in 2 to 3 weeks. I picked them up, and was very hurriedly given an adjustment and was told I would need time to get use to the new lenses.
I called a week later to say the glasses were not suited whatsoever for my eyes and was told to come back in. Another 100 miles one way. I was given another eye exam and was told the specs were off a little and would make a new pair. At that time, I also agreed to pay another $147.00 to have a larger and better vision area. After another 2 or 3 weeks, I picked up my second corrected pair of glasses. After arriving home and trying to make them work, I found that the left lens was totally different from the the right. I called again and went back for the third time. Another 100 mile one way. And was told there was a mistake in the left lens. Took another eye exam, and was told that the third set of glasses, would be perfect. After getting home, I realized that I could see only out of the very tops and very bottoms of the glasses, everything in between was a blurred.

Okay, I am going to try to make this simple. America’s Best is awful. My appointment was at 3:30 pm on a Saturday. I arrived 15 minutes beforehand to check in. Saturday is apparently their busiest day, which I understand. In the waiting room, people around me told me they are an hour behind so everyone who had an appointment had to wait a good hour from their appointment scheduled time. I waited until about 5 pm, so ridiculous. I then got up and said something, and apparently my file was not in the pile!
So that is why I was not called, which made sense because around 4 – 4:30 pm, I was seeing people get called who did not wait long at all! It was actually the woman sitting next to me who said something about people getting called who definitely arrived after me! Such **. So get this, after I advocated and stuck up for myself, the woman who I was complaining to had the nerve to whisper about this other woman who did not even have an appointment was seen after I was waiting and said something.
My poor grandfather was sitting in the car outside waiting for me. I felt completely disrespected and I wasted about 3 hours total. By the way, the 2-hour ** wait then, including the drive there and back. Even though I desperately need contacts aka a new and updated Rx, I left. I couldn’t take it. I never ever want to go in there again! And to top it all off, I better be getting my money back from them. The year prior, I paid for a 3-year plan, about $99. I just want two-thirds of it back and some free contacts. I will be speaking to the manager on Monday. Such **.
A complete waste of money and time, a ripoff! You think you are actually saving money, but no, think again, trust me it’s seriously a scam.
The part that bothers me the most is people in this economy need jobs and if these people can’t handle putting a stupid file or documented paper of a customer in the pile "to be seen", honestly, it’s sad. I bet there’s so many people out there that can do their job a million times better. Honestly, this woman looked like she ate my file; very, very heavyset.

If you are a bifocal wearer you know you can't go anywhere and get even 1 pair for $69. The lenses are done in a lab to reduce errors, the glasses done in an hour are more likely to be wrong. We do require a follow up for contacts because we want to know if the contacts are working well in your eyes. There are instances where a contact doesn't feel good or slips. As for the people with legitimate complaints about customer service, apologies are in order. We thrive on customer service at our store.

I was told there is nothing they could do since I have not bought a warranty protection.
I have never had anyone offer me a warranty protection from prior eyeglass companies. Obviously, America's Best (Worst) is making consumers buy this protection because they could not stand by their product since the quality is bad. Anyone reading this, please, please, do your homework before getting services from this company because the quality of the product is not what they charge you for. Consequently, my insurance company just paid over $300.00 down the drain. It's a shame that consumers are being ripped off by this company. Everyone beware. This pair of glasses should have lasted me more than 1 year, not 5 months. I know for sure I will not be visiting the store again and hope everyone out there learn from my mistake.
