There is no equity in dispersing course assignments across the university. Faculty Schedulers nor Human Resource Manager are considerate enough to contact you directly in regards to dismissal due to course shortages. This is a really poor way to operate an institution and is reflective in the disgruntlement from learners.

A few months ago, I started receiving suspicious calls from 800-798-0584 that I let go to voicemail just to be safe. A woman identifying herself as "Ashley" from "Ashford University" started each message with, "Hey Brooke, this is Ashley. I've been sending you many emails and am trying to reach you to help you understand what you need to be doing next for class..." First of all, my name isn't Brooke. Second, I had never heard of, contacted, or enrolled at Ashford University in my life. I thought maybe it was an honest mistake - like a wrong number call - and so I let it go.
Almost immediately I started getting calls from another suspicious number ** in New Baltimore, MI that I, again, let go to voicemail to be on the safe side. This time it was a gruff sounding man who proceeded to berate me and said things like, "Brooke! This is your father! I don't know what the ** you think you're doing but you better get your ** home..." He also left threatening messages with many expletives about how Ashley is trying to reach me to help me and urged me to call her back.
In total, "Brooke" received 4 voicemails from "her father" and 5 from "Ashley." I saved them all because of how scary and urgent the content from both callers was. I figured Ashford University wasn't real and that these two individuals were just running a scam that I'd eventually need to alert the police about. Ashley said in her messages that she "received my emails" and that we had set up specific times to talk to each other that I kept blowing off... and I kept thinking, there is no way a real University would operate this way and employ such brazen, immature, seemingly uneducated staff lacking all self-awareness. Why would a credible college adviser repeatedly call and leave messages like this if the individual they were attempting to reach obviously wasn't returning any calls?
It would have been blatantly obvious to any legit adviser that my number isn't "Brooke's" number because I state my name in my recorded prompt to leave me a voicemail.... and my name isn't Brooke! I can see an adviser making the mistake one time, but wouldn't the second message of a smart individual go something like, "hello, this is Ashley from Ashford. this message is intended for Brooke... if you are not Brooke, I apologize and you will not hear from me again... *click*?? But then, I googled Ashford University. And I stumbled upon these reviews and was blown away. That place is real and people have obviously been lied to, bullied, and had their money stolen. What happened to a lot of other people sounds eerily similar to what Ashley was trying to do to me... er, Brooke??
Maybe "Brooke" is a real person who got herself involved in this school and then got sick of them harassing her so she gave them a random fake number (Mine. Thanks Brookie.) I can't even blame her though. And maybe that really was her dad, screaming and calling her names, yelling at her to "get her ** life together," in which case... I'm sorry Brooke. That's not how you deserve to be spoken to by anyone. Any man. Particularly, a father. Good call on giving him the fake number too. (Mine. Ugh.)
It may still all have been a scam that has nothing to do with Ashford; Brooke may not be real; Ashley and dad may be creepy con artists headquartered in someone's basement; who knows. But I wrote this review in case it wasn't. In case these people really are University representatives and this is how things truly operate at Ashford. After reading about the tactics the school employed against its students, It doesn't sound that far-fetched anymore. Buyer beware.

I am now starting my third year at Ashford University and I truly wish I had attended a different university. You're on your own when it comes to technical issues. I waited two weeks for a response when I couldn't log in via a laptop, a tablet or their app. I hired a tech to troubleshoot and it was a problem on their end, not mine. Fixed after 3 weeks of inconveniences and countless phone calls to their Tech Dept.(which kept passing the buck elsewhere). Also, I had to drop a class after having emergency GI surgery, 7 transfusions and a 6-night hospital stay. I'm still fighting to receive my credit back to my account for dropping the class. That was 8 months ago...

I have been attending for 5 years. Suffered a great deal but still kept going to school. Not once did they tell me that if I continued through to graduation that I would run out of money. I think it's unfair because I would have gladly agree to release a percentage of my stipend to pay for it... They never said anything!!! For 5 years nothing... Now, I am suddenly out of funding??? How am I supposed to know that I got all my money... I was told by an advisor when I enrolled that my loans and grants would cover my education and that I would only owe the government not Ashford. That's why I signed up... I was burned before by AIU... They did the same thing so I was being cautious but after he told me that I was glad and grateful that I would be getting my degree at 50 years. Now this!!
Very disappointed in this schools who take advantage of people who of ignorant to all the facts. They should be fined by the Department of Education... and forced to close their doors. I understand making a profit for at whose expense. Me just trying to make it by earning a degree so I can acquire a better job to take care of myself and not be homeless and living with my parents at 50! Yes 50!

I inquired about their Master's degree program and let them know very clearly I was only calling to get information about how their program works and that I was just beginning to look at schools. I was put through to an advisor who sent me the information and asked if I would like to put my free application through to see if I would qualify. I thought it couldn't hurt. As I was filling the application out and the advisor was spacing out when I asked questions and at one point was even laughing at herself because she "thought of something that would be funny"'. After that she said she would call me the next day at 6:15pm. No call. At 9:45pm she asked if she could call. I said I had to get up early so just email me from now on.
She called 4 times in one hour the next day, and another 4 times the next day and sent several emails that I needed to get stuff done. If that wasn't harassing enough, she emailed me with the subject line "how come I can't reach you". That doesn't sound like a master's educated person first off. I then explained myself again that I was just starting to look at schools and that I would contact her with my decision. She then claimed I signed some agreement that I would start classes the next day. I said there was no way I was doing that and I was no longer interested in attending Ashford if they bully people into signing up.
She suddenly turned apologetic and said "go ahead and research other schools and let me know. Do you see any you like more?" I did not respond and got another phone call the next day! Very unprofessional! They bully you into taking classes by making you believe you've signed up for classes you did not and that you will get in "trouble" if you don't. Never give them a second look!

I am currently a student at Ashford University and have been attending this school since January 17th of 2017. This is the very first time that I have attended school for as long as I have and have yet to receive any financial aid. According to them my financial aid was disbursed on March 21st two months prior to my enrollment, and yet to receive my stipend. When I called and asked about the information prior to the disbursement date I was giving a total of what I could expect today. When I called back they tell me they can't give me that information due to it may change or not be approved for it. I'm just confused with the whole deal as to how they are handling things with my financial aid at this point.
I feel like I've signed up and giving them information. They've taken out the loans subsidized and unsubsidized and received my pell and hung me out dry being forced to continue on as the classes have been paid for. What's the review for? The classes have been paid for yet the excess funds has to be approved. It's a bunch of BS. The representative asked my name and birthday twice and read over notes. I know that's what she had to be doing as she gasp and paused for 2 or minutes never putting me on hold. She started out bluntly giving me information "okay this is what I have" then said "how may I help you". I know all online schools can't be like this yet this school has put a really bitter taste in my mouth.
I hate now that I've tied my aid up with them as I plan to attend a traditional campus. My enrollment advisor Maggie was outstanding and my student advisor Nadia was very helpful but financial aid has been a runaround from day one. Please take heed to the warning anybody that is reading this. This school is a headache when it comes to your financial aid. They are going to give you a runaround. It has been 3 months and I have yet to receive anything. I have never in my life experienced such unprofessionalism. I was told the amount as I stated earlier of what I could expect when it comes to my refund. Now that my funds have been accepted and their fees have been paid they can't even give me a balance as it was due to me. Really?
Something is not right about this school guys. The class is a great. I've had a great time with my instructors and I really want to proceed forward and I will with the classes that have been paid for. But anything that they feel that's going to impact my 2017-2018 will not happen because I am unsatisfied with how they do things. At a traditional school you go to school 30 days after you receive your funds and that's only if you are new student. If you are recurrent student and you would send it this semester. Before 2 weeks after classes are in session you have your money. I just don't understand how they do things here. I just don't. I've asked questions on top of questions and get everything gets an answer or it's half-** answered or is something to satisfy me for the moment.

This school is completely ridiculous. DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR TIME OR MONEY! I completely agree with all the other negative reviews. It's impossible to get a straight answer out of anyone there. You can call five times and get 100 different answers to the same questions. They lie about tuition, it costs a lot more than what the lady originally told me when I enrolled. They keep putting holds on my account stating I owe them thousands of dollars, which is continually pushing back my graduation date. I'm to the point that I'm done with this school and don't care how much inconvenience it causes because I'm planning to transfer! Not only have they taken out thousands in a Parent PLUS loan I'll have to pay back, they keep taking more and more out of my personal financial aide and still telling me I owe them 7k!
I'm still enrolled in this slop fest and I have nothing but negative things to say about all the staff, the financial aid department, and the lack of training they provide. They clearly need to get it together or BE SHUT DOWN!!! Because holy cow this is the worst school I have ever ever ever had to deal with!!! The amount of stress they have caused me and I'm sure most everyone that attends this dump, is ridiculous. Never in my life have I worked with such a disgraceful facility. I am embarrassed to tell people I go to Ashford!!! If you're considering this school, do yourself a favor and move on!!!

I submitted a paper in week three of my next to the last class for my degree and received a B+ on it. During week 6 I questioned the instructor about a grade he gave me. When he responded, he stated he corrected his mistake. However due to the fact that I questioned him on it, he was turning in the paper I received a B+ on in week 3 for plagiarism. I questioned him as to why and he claimed that while I reported a 5% likeness from Turn it in, he received a 30% because I failed to put quotations around a paraphrase. I asked why he decided to wait until then to do it and retracted the B+ he awarded me. He did this out of spite.
I was immediately withdrawn from the course and given a F in the course when I initially had a high A. I disputed this, however was told it would not be reversed even though I proved I was in the right and had not plagiarized. I now have to retake the course and it cost me money I do not have. Once I am done with the degree, I will have my attorney pursue a lawsuit.

While going through a divorce, I decided I needed to go back to school to finish my degree. A full-time job and babysitter would be in my near future as I signed a prenup and would receive a low amount capped alimony for 4 years and state approved child support of $2,000. I thought an online degree would fit into my schedule while taking care of my children and legal appointments. At $1500 per course every 5 weeks I would need help. I contacted Ashford and told them my situation. I didn't have a job and the child support and temp alimony wasn't enough to cover my bills and apartment. Ashford said I would qualify for financial aid. I filled out all forms, no problems.
In the meantime, Ashford said, "Let's have you start your classes next week." I was excited and said yes! I'll have purpose and feel good that I'm preparing for a successful future. At a GPA of 3.98, I was studying hard and feeling proud of myself. They then signed me up for 4 more classes. While taking a class every 5 weeks, I continued going back and forth with financial aid counselors and my student counselor regarding approval. "No problem, you'll qualify for aid, just continue your classes!" they said. I started to get a little suspicious of the jumping through hoops and major runaround. When I called to pursue my aid approval, they put my account on hold. First I qualified and then I didn't. I was devastated! They told me everything I wanted to hear (and more), but didn't deliver. They said that my ex-husbands income tax reports showed I wouldn't qualify for aid, even though I signed a prenup and wouldn't get ANY of his money.
I sent Ashford a signed letter to prove my situation (which THEY asked for) and approved financial aid again. Then they said, "okay, when can you start your next class?" I started my next class at their guidance believing that I was financially okay with student aid. After that class, they put me on hold, again. Then all contact subsided on their end for 3 weeks. The next week I received a call from collections, collections!!! What a very sad situation to be in. I feel like I want to sue them for leading me on and using my emotions against me, but I don't have the income to support such a fight. They acted like my best friend to hook me in. They promised financial aid yet didn't deliver. I feel betrayed and they took advantage of my situation. I'm very disappointed at Ashford and disappointed at myself for trusting them. Please beware of this "FOR PROFIT" school as they don't give a damn if they ruin your life or future. Very sad.

A girl I use to work with called me and asked if I could talk to her about this school so she could meet her quota. I said okay. Well somehow or another she SIGNED ME UP FOR CLASSES I NEVER TOOK and now I'm being charged for like 3 classes and some pretend LAB I never used for an online collage. When I called and asked for paperwork asking for proof of signature and what not how this all came to be nothing get sent emailed or anything. I'm pretty sure this is illegal and not sure how they hire such scammers in the first place. I filed complaints with the BBB and DCA and nothing gets done.

After posting this and calling again I spoke to another representative. This person was much easier to talk with. They released the holds since I was not enrolling in a program and not seeking financial aid. It did take almost an entire 48 hours for all the departments to get together on the whole thing and finally realize that I was NOT enrolling but rather getting my transcripts from a Bachelor's degree I had already received but now I have no problem getting transcripts. The hold for enrolling was not their doing but the Dept of Ed and we resolved that. I was never explained quite why I had to prove my identity but that is neither here nor there and the issue was fixed satisfactorily.
Original Review: Jan. 26, 2017
In 2008 I graduated from Ashford University with my Bachelor's degree. I have tried to get my Master's a couple of times but due to several things happening in my life it has not happened. In November Josh ** called me to get me 'enrolled' in their Master's Degree program. I should have never gotten involved with them again. I have a zero balance. I owe them absolutely nothing at all, however when I withdrew my admittance into their program they then sent me a form saying I had to prove my identity, which I did. I got it notarized and sent it back. They received it and immediately put another hold on my account saying that my FAFSA was flagged.
I have checked the status of my FAFSA and went through the Dept of Ed to check on this stipulation and have found nothing to support Ashford's claim that I have any kind of flag on my FAFSA. They have held my transcripts since November. I need them to get my teaching certificate completed in my new state of residency, yet the university wants to hold transcripts from a degree I already completed and paid for. None of the holds are even about my past degree, they are about a degree and financial aid that I am not even receiving! After doing some research none of the "holds" they have on my account are even relevant holds to keep my transcripts. My advice... Stay far away from Ashford University. They are the absolute worst and your degree will be worthless because you won't ever be able to get your transcripts.

I started with Ashford University in 2012, I stopped going for health reasons. I continued to receive calls to come back. In one of those calls the re-entry counselor Christie ** stated that as a reminder that since I'm military I receive classes at a lower rate. I told her that's funny because up to this point nobody told me anything about a discount. I have already finished over 10 classes with them. She looks at my account and agrees that they "forgot" to apply the discount and will speak to her manager about backdating my account since they owed me close to $10,000 in overpayments. I waited for her to call me back for a week and then attempted to reach her, I was sent to another person stating Christie no longer is handling my file and she (Krista **) has no idea about what I'm talking about. I explain the conversation and Krista states that they don't have to back date because it was my responsibility to make sure I was given the discount when I enrolled.
Now mind you when all of this was going on I had a 0 balance owing since I had finished my last class and financial aid and my Tribe had paid everything. After I told this new person I was going to report them to the Veterans Administration I magically had a $160.05 balance and my transcripts were locked. I called the collection agency and was told I owe $800. I'm not paying $160 or $800. They knew I was military since I'm on the honor society for Veterans called SALUTE and they requested my DD214 from day one. I have since called the Attorney General to make a formal complaint. I have several emails showing proof that they knew they owed me money and the email stating they weren't going to pay it. I am a Veteran that served 6 years in the Marine Corps as Military Police and I currently work at the Department of Veteran Affairs as a Police Officer. I deserve to be paid back the money owed to me and my transcripts off hold status.

I am one of the few who will be graduating from Ashford in January 2017. This will be my second Master's degree from Ashford, to my embarrassment. I wish I had never gotten involved with the school. You cannot get a straight answer from anyone, that is if you can get someone on the phone. I have used student aid (loans) to pay for these "degrees" and am due a stipend which I use to supplement my income so I can attend full time. Each semester they have taken longer and longer to release my stipend. It is due to me sometime this month, although I do not know if I will see the money before I graduate. It does not make sense to me that they are able to hold loans so long without releasing your own money to you. So much for supplementing my income.
When it came to my last two or three classes, I decided I wanted to change my major. My adviser flat refused due to the limited availability of classes. There have been only four people in each of my last three classes. There was a two week forced waiting period between the last two classes, which delayed my graduation by a month. Apparently no one else had any interest in completing these classes either once they got an idea of how poor they were, during which I was forced to apply for a leave of absence or be dropped from the program. Once you get involved with them, they tie up your finances, give you the runaround or worse and are just plain rude when they respond, if they bother.
I deeply regret my choice to use Ashford. I have learned nothing truly useful that I did not teach myself. I have a 3.96 GPA at this point and a 4.0 from my last degree so the problem is not due to my lack of ability or dedication. I thought this would open doors for me and it has been a complete waste of time and a huge amount of money. They make sure to cover themselves at your expense whether it is through class enrollment, I have had to fight them on several occasions for enrolling me in classes I did not want or request to take, or the financial aid. This program is the biggest scam I haven ever fallen prey to. I am searching for other methods to express my utter disappointment as they truly do not care. I hope someone reads this and moves along to another university that can offer them something of value for their hard work.

Not only is this 'institution' a complete waste of time and money but they are all complete morons. The dropout county is so high because these people literally don't care how hard you work and have a bunch of small print of rules that are absolutely ridiculous. The instructors don't care about you or if you graduate, which no one ever does. For the price you could be at a real school actually learning something instead of wasting away here getting bothered 30 times a day with their constant bombardment of emails, most which are automated so you can't even respond.
No one answers their phone and the nasty attitudes of the 'advisors' make it clear they couldn't care less if you get kicked out, which will happen if you do all your work and get perfect scores on quizzes. They make nothing clear and most places won't even accept your 'degree' from them, if you're one of the like 2% of people who actually graduate. Don't waste your time and money. It's a school ran by zoo animals. If my advisor got a masters degree you think she'd be sitting on the phone all day begging for students to attend her bullcrap school? Oh wait she got it from Ashford so obviously that's the only place she could get a job. This place is SCAM SCAM SCAM.

I transferred in to Ashford with an Associate's Degree with honors from a local community college and was also given credit after an evaluation of work and life-related experience. I was told all of my A.A. credits transferred, and so on and so forth. I attended a few years (took breaks here and there) but made my way up to 112 credits, had a 3.93 G.P.A., took a break and then completed another 6 credits, bringing me to the grand total of 118 credits with roughly the same G.P.A. (by the way, never invited to the honors society or anything either).
The last class I needed was a very difficult one for me (I have disabilities and a severe learning disability related to math). I had documentation for disability accommodations, informed them what I needed for this class and was denied, despite the fact I had some accommodations for other classes (direct violation of disability laws), and then the advisor tells me that I was misinformed about my credits that were supposed to have been transferred and that I wasn't 3 credits away from graduation but in fact I need FIFTY??? I told this individual that I enrolled under pretenses that they all transferred and I was granted additional for the experience I have and he advised me I was misinformed.
I told him I am $30,000. I'm debt for this degree and they need to fix it because of I was enrolled under false pretenses, they collected this amount of money under false pretenses, and this is the epitome of the definition of FRAUD... And I know this because my ex-husband has three Masters and a Doctorate from Berkeley in LAW and he specialized in Fraud. Yeah, it still is not fixed either. Unfortunately I am not in touch with the ex-husband and REALLY rather not go there! LOL. This school is SHAAADY. STAY AWAY.

Literally everything about this "University" sucks. They have no idea what they're doing, and the whole "Advisor" department is as smart as 3 kindergarteners finger painting ducks on a table. I'm pretty sure they all eat glue. Upon finding out that the school is only out for money, the instructors take 3 weeks after an assignment is turned in to grade it, and having to make multiple calls to financial aid to help them figure out my FAFSA and school loans, I withdrew.
Here's a great story for those of you thinking of attending: When I withdrew, they "accidentally" withdrew me one class into my completed semester, rendering my GPA a 2.08 instead of the 3.2 that I would have had. So now, yet again, I am having to help them figure out that they have screwed up. It seems to be their calling card. Any prospective students, go to another school. The school is a bunch of retarded frauds who don't know their butts from a hole in the ground. This school is a joke!!!!

I am a former military and transfer student from another university. The school was relatively easy to work with regarding enrollment and they accepted my BGSU and former military credits. The credit hours were high but then again so are all traditional universities. The course schedule and availability was great. I merged into an IT program midway through the degree process and encountered few difficulties. Different classes, professors, TAs, etc had different styles just as all major University studies do. Some graded easy, some hard...as with all studies, I learned more from the classes that were not a breeze and which challenged me.
Ashford is not a diploma mill, it is a university...so if you want to ace through a program, look somewhere else. What it did provide was an advanced education available to me during my off hours from work. My degree was accepted by OU and I am now completing my Masters with a traditional in-school education part-time--and it's the same degree of challenge (though at a graduate level). It's worth it, it's academic, it's a degree track. Don't give up or blame the school because you are not making all A's...it's you that should be gaining something. Fail better (as Beckett put it), stumble, try, try harder.

Therefore, I assumed I did not have to take the 1st part of it. Anyway they charged me with the class anyway and I failed it. About 4 or 5 years ago I applied for a course at the Ashford University. A gentleman later called my phone. He asked me to send to him my previous certificates which had three years of University work. He told me that meanwhile he perused my documents I could pay $300 so that when approved I will have less to pay as fees. He went on and promised me that just in case I was not approved my $300 would be refunded. At first I hesitated but after he told me that the school would only hold my money if I signed the promissory note which I would be required to sign after the school evaluated my certificate in order to determine how many credits I was worth, I sent the money.
After a short while the gentleman who I remember vividly as Mr. **, told me that I had no credits from my previous colleges that would be carried forward to Ashford University and I had to enroll for a four year course. I then told him I could not enroll for four years and we parted. After one month I got a bill of $1,200. I called and asked the school how the debt had been arrived at. I was told that it was because I had been enrolled in the school for 4 years. I asked him why and I was not a student at the school.
After another two months the bill went higher to over $2,000 and still I was not at the school. Today the school is still sending bills of $2,106 to me from now and then. The US government should investigate this school. The school is engaged with activities of stealing money from Americans especially those with an accent. This has to be stopped. How can the school charge Americans money for courses they have not attended, even without having signed a promissory note, just because one has sent an application?

Well I want to sue them for lying to me with only 6 course remaining, social and criminal justices degree. I answered the call from Ashford because I was interested in furthering my education, the advisor got me to the point where she convinced me to sign the e-contract - (it was to obtain transcripts from my other colleges to see what could be credited. I told her I was not sure, she convinced me that is was 100 % no commitment if I decided it was not for me. Later that evening I read up on the complaints of Ashford and was able to print up the e-contract.
I faxed them (according to the contract) not to receive electronic correspondence - informing them that I decided that I would not be attending Ashford so that they could not hit me up with a technology fee. And this was done the very next morning - I even sent the faxed letter with proof of the confirmation of fax, certified return receipt. That was delivered yesterday. Yet I am still receiving e-mails - I have called and left messages as well. I am afraid to open e-mails from Ashford in fear that they would say that by opening e-mails - I was acknowledging their correspondence and I haven't even signed in. I contacted 7 on your side. Oh Ashford. I am on the fence with Ashford. It seems they need to tighten up controls, cross train and adjust their ridiculous requirements. I know 4 people who graduated from this school. I went to UOP initially for 2 1/2 years. Never had a huge issue. My biggest issue here is financial aid which seems to be everyone's issue. I never had an issue getting a stipend and most issues I have read simply takes for the person complaining to handle their business. Know what you're signing and what you have not signed. Ask the right questions. Become e-mail savvy and e-mail 8 people at once, randomly and I guarantee someone will call you.
Threaten to catch hold of the Dean. Threaten to file lawsuits. This WORKS, I did it. No problems since. With that some of the teachers really don't give a ** and some are there for a check and some really care. In other words expecting traditional University quality within a online University that has not been around half as long. Ashford is working out their kinks, for real.

They have always answered my emails in a prompt manner and have been very professional each time. When calling into the school, I have had to leave messages, which were returned within 24 hours. My student loans have always come in on time, and I have always received my stipend in the time frame in which I was instructed. The course work is very educational and makes me think 'outside the box'. I graduate in less than a year and am seriously considering continuing my education with Ashford. I have read a lot of negative comments about this school, however, from my experience, I am giving Ashford five stars and would gladly recommend this school to my friends.

I have been a student at Ashford online for three and a half years with four classes to go, all of sudden they stopped me from going to school and put a hold on my transcript. The reason was they stated is because I owed three and a half years of tuition fees. That's right they notified me after three and a half years I owed tuition fees. They did not ever notify anytime along the way, not once no email no phone call no letter of any sort telling me there were fees associated with my account. The VA pays for me classes, none of the financial records show a deficit on my account. My GPA 3.15 that's not spectacular but it shows I've been a willing participant.
Ashford University is the worse online school in the history of online schools. After filing a grievance everyone that has called me is just trying to get the money not acknowledging any wrong doing on Ashford's part, they are not trying to mitigate the situation. Here's all they have to do, admit it was a mix-up, put me on a payment plan for the lousy 3,000 dollars and allow me to finish, but no they just want the money before I can go further. So I applied to attend Ashford this year in May. I was approved, went thru the enrollment process, everything. They even convinced me to start sooner. Then I entered, got me caught up on this "3 weeks try out no obligation if you decide you don't want to attend" because they won't file your financial aid until after 3 weeks. I come into some difficult road blocks with my financial aid so I know how to fill out different forms to explain my unusual enrollment. No problem. They tell me "It's no big deal. You just need transcripts from the schools listed and if you can't fill out this for just to explain why you couldn't obtain these documents or did not or were not able to receive credit for attending these school."
I explain one school is bought out, 2 - I withdrew but one is no long around and was shutdown. I withdrew because I was having issues with a babysitter for my daughter who I now only & as of June the first school I completed but it was bought out so it was difficult to obtain. I sent articles stating they're no longer up and running, letters from FAFSA saying I will get financial forgiveness because it was shut down due to legal issues and whatever else to show and explain I can't give them the transcripts. I was able to get one and struggling still for the other two. They say "it's cool. Send in what you got, we'll check and make sure it looks good and if so send it to be review and approved."
They denied me and said they need more physical proof to explain why I'm having trouble to obtain these records and they need more proof of why it was so hard to finish school. How do you prove financial hardship and child care. I'm a single mother who is 26 and can only do so much and then it's for years in the past not now which makes sense as to why I want to do online classes right? But because I was denied due to no transcripts and they told me I needed to just submit these form and move forward. I am now not able to receive final aid till next year no matter where I go because I was denied.
They could have stopped me and warned me and advised me to "Let's wait get these forms then turn them in" even if I have to continue on in class a little later so I wouldn't be denied I would have appreciated. But now because of their misleading advice and making it seem like it was crucial if I didn't do it because I was already in class doing the 3 week thing they told me about I'm now unable to attend school for a year...unless I pay for it in cash and unfortunately I can't afford to do that. So I'm just screwed and a year of my life I should be in school has just been wasted! Ashford was the worst thing I could have done.

I was very disappointed when I attended Ashford University from January 2015 until June 2015. I was very satisfied with the courses in the beginning, until I had two professor, who was very dishonest, and misleading, along with an academic advisor. Hello. My problems began with this class during Week 1. I sent an e-mail to the instructor stating that my father was in the intensive care unit during the first week of class, and that I would not be able to turn in any assignments due to everything that I was going through, since I am his primary care giver. The professor stated via e-mail that it would be okay. However, when I checked my grades, she gave me zeros, for the discussion questions. I immediately contacted the professor, and she stated, that although she would give me credit for the questions, she only agreed to week 1 assignment, which is not true.
Incident #2. I enrolled in school online for the convenience to participate at my convenience. Furthermore, I received a phone call during my first class with Ashford from my academic advisor, which he informed me that I could participate during any day of the week for the class. However, this instructor informed me via e-mail that I could only participate in class after the discussion questions were posted, which is not fair. This is my second degree from Ashford and up until this professor I have never had an issue with my work or my grades. The professor also listed dates that I read my fellow students post, which did happen as an attempt to respond to my classmates. She then implied via e-mail that I read their responses so that I could cheat.
Incident #3. I spoke to my Academic Advisor about the situation, and he told me that the professor can determine the days of participation. However, that was not explained to me before, or after enrolling in school. He was very upset, and began to argue with me and stated, "Although you may have experience in the field of education, you don't know anything about how higher education works!" During week 2, I wrote a paper which had similar ideas to another paper that I wrote which explained my ideas, and experiences at a particular job. This teacher accused me of plagiarizing, which is not true and she gave me a zero. I told the teacher via-email that the papers may be similar in ideas because of the same experiences that I have had. Meanwhile my father is dying, which I explained to the teacher and my academic advisor.
I spoke to my advisor and told him that this teacher is being unreasonable with the participation because my dad is dying. I explained to my advisor that what she is doing pertaining to limiting my participation to only Thursday, or when I post my questions is not right and he stated the professor can make any adjustments to the participation requirement, syllabus or schedule at any time. I tried to drop this class in week two, but instead of my advisor telling me possible good solutions, he consistently and rudely stated, "you only have two choices, withdraw from the class or finish it. The professor is still going to get paid." I explained to this advisor that there has to be a way to assist me but he only stated, "filing this claim was the only way."
During week 4 I received zeros for the discussion questions. Although the questions were submitted late, I have been submitting the questions late before, and was given credit. Then she gave me only half credit for submitting a perfectly good paper, but the heading was not correctly done. Did she really have to give me 3.5 out of 7?
Week 5. Again, I am being accused of submitting a paper that is plagiarized. I wrote this paper, and these are my ideas. Furthermore, for the summarized material, I cited my information. I am very disappointed with this class, and the professor, and I need assistance. I even told the professor that I basically failed this class, and she told me to not give up and that she sees that I am trying. However, she consistently creates inconsistency with her course.
Furthermore I have reached out to the course mates to receive feedback pertaining to whether or not they received half of a grade for an incorrect heading, have consistently been accused of plagiarizing, and if the professor have written them to instruct them that participation can only take place after the student has made his or her post? I believe that I am facing retaliation, as a result of consistently addressing the professor pertaining to her errors. Furthermore, in both cases of this alleged plagiarism she stated, she would have reported it but she did not, because she was going to let me off the hook. Therefore, I told the teacher to provide proof. However, she attempted to but those are my ideas, and I cited properly for the summarizing.
Week 6. I received a zero on a submitted paper again, stating the paper lacked substance. I wrote the professor an e-mail asking for an explanation, and I also told her that she has been displaying signs of retaliation since week 1's incident. Not to my surprise the professor decides weeks after these plagiarizing accusations to submit the incidents to the proper department. However, the department placed in the last paragraph of the email, that week II was not considered plagiarizing. However, I still received a failing grade, and my grade appeal was denied. Furthermore, Ashford placed a hold on my account.

She has a graduation fee however they are claiming she has to pay for it out of pocket which is $150. I graduated twice and my funds paid for all my graduation fees.
They also claim she owes them $300 on top of this. Last year at my institution there were students who left Ashford to come to my college. Now it makes sense. I'm a single mother who wanted to achieve my degree. Back in May all of the sudden I couldn't log in to take my class. I called my advisor and find out why I couldn't logged in to take my class. He told me that they had to stopped my class because financial aid didn't kicked in so I asked him "what do I need to send" and "why financial aid department didn't contacted me to let me know what was going on". So he suggested me to call financial aid to asked what was the problem.
I called and they asked for the same documents that I had send it before I resend them. Apparently they misplaced my documents and I thought everything was ok. But still they told me that I had to wait for the next class to start again. I couldn't go back to school, its my daughter last year of high school and I decided to wait for her to graduate in order for me to go back to college. From financial aid never, never, ever called me to let me know that they needed more information about my income.
I never received a call from Ashford saying that they need more information nor send me a statement. I just received from a collection department a letter with the amount of $4,965.00. Am a single mother trying to have a decent life with my daughter, and by me receiving this notice was shocking and extremely upsetting. I can't believe that they have done such thing instead of contacted me and telling me what was going on. I was declare with cancer and I wanted to buy a used car to my daughter as a gift of graduation. In the dealer they saw that amount of collection and they deny it.
Am so devastated and sad because like I said am a single mother I don't know how long am going to live and at least a used car for my girl would of be a great satisfaction for me to give her. But thanks to Ashford financial aid dep. that won't be possible. I regret so much getting involved with this school. I should of never, never, never shouldn't have enrolled there. Gosh, they need to take their own accounting and business classes how this works. NO INTEGRITY. What would you do when you receive an invoice for $1385 for your next class? You pay it and it says $0 balance. The home page says $0 balance. Yet, you receive a call that you owe $50 or you are going to be dropped out of the class. But the balance on everything is $0. How many students do they call and harass asking for more money? Where is the invoice? Why does it say $0 everywhere. Why when I read my account ledger, it says my last months' payment was in Academic year 1 when I am in my 2nd year? It is a mess? Where is this money going? How many students do they call asking for money, with no justification? The brick and mortar Ashford University closed.
The increases since I started in Oct. 2013 have almost gone up by 60%. This institution is in trouble and desperate. I have tried to respond multiple times to explain I paid my balance. I was told a supervisor would call me. No supervisor called me. They went home, meaning "we really don't care". I guess they prefer to wait until you are working during the middle of the day, hope you don't answer and then pull you out of your class?? When I spoke to the last rep, she said "It's only $50" with a snotty tone. Really? There is a bigger picture here - this institution's integrity.
I know they don't get a lot of cash paying students and survive off of the government. They don't know how to treat a cash paying student I guess. I am almost ready to graduate, and have sucked it up with this university and its outdated material and poor technology - which I have many examples. I am a professional business woman and through my classes I can tell you this institution will not survive. There are many other options out there. STAY AWAY FROM ASHFORD UNIVERSITY.

I came from long compounded semesters with multiple classes, so having the ability to study one subject all the way through without breaks is great. Week 1. Post Introduction: This is a meet & greet with your classmates. You give a very brief bio and have to respond to 3 of your classmates on the first day for 0.5 points.
Discussion 1 & 2: This post is required to be a minimum of 250 words with at least one reference from the course book. The points for each post is 3% or 3 points of your overall grade and are due by Thursday; the class starts on Monday's. Here are more details on how you are graded, based on a comment I got from a teacher: "You explained the change process you wanted to discuss. You detailed your views on the change methodology in question. You provided some good examples to illustrate your points. This was a very thorough and detailed explanation, well done. You provided some detailed responses explaining your position. This was well done. You provided some good examples to support your assertions." Every week there are two discussion post due, so in total you have 10 discussion posts which is roughly 30% of your grade; 10 discussion posts x 3% points = 30%.
Week 3. Along with the two discussion post there will be an additional assignment due. The assignment is a 3-6 page paper on a subject related to the first half of the book. Here's an example from Macroeconomics ECO 204: "You have been hired by Nobody State University (NSU) as a consultant to help the university with how to increase their total revenue. The university has been struggling in recent years, so they have hired you to help them in their last attempt to find an appropriate solution so that the university can survive.
Raise or lower tuition? Suppose that, in an attempt to raise more revenue, Nobody State University increases its tuition. Assess a raise in tuition and if it will necessarily result in more revenue. Describe the conditions under which revenue will (a) rise, (b) fall, or (c) remain the same. Explain the process of revenue at NSU, focusing on the relationship between the increased revenue from students enrolling at NSU despite the higher tuition and the lost revenue from possible lower enrollment. If the true price elasticity were (-1.2), discuss what you would suggest the university do to expand revenue. Using what you have learned in this course, explain how you would resolve this problem if you were the President of NSU.
In a three- to five-page paper (not including title and reference pages), provide subheadings or separate paragraphs for each of the questions listed to help focus your paper for the executives that have requested it. Support your paper with at least two academic sources from the Ashford Library. You are required to format you paper according to APA style guidelines."
And here is how you will be graded: (2 / 2) Assess a Raise in Tuition and If It Will Result in More Revenue. Distinguished - Provides a thorough assessment of raising tuition and if it will result in more revenue. (1.76 / 2) Describes the Conditions Under Which Revenue will Rise, Fall, or Remain the Same. Proficient - Clearly describes the conditions under which revenue will rise, fall, or remain the same ,this part had to mention elasticities and should be related to the elasticity given in the scenario. (1.76 / 2) Explains the Process of Revenue at NSU. Proficient - Mostly explains the process of increased revenue from students enrolling at NSU and lost revenue from lower enrollment.
(1.52 / 2) Discusses Suggestions to Expand Revenue. Basic - Partially discusses suggestions for the university to expand revenue, somewhat demonstrating the relationship between the price elasticity and revenue. Resolutions suggested had to be mindful of the elasticity situation. (0.76 / 1) Explains How to Resolve the Problem. Basic - Somewhat explains how to resolve the problem using what has been learned in this class. There are several ways to help with the issue, but at all times, you had to mindful that a tuition increase, with this elasticity, is a wrong choice. (0.7 / 0.8) Critical Thinking: Explanation of Issues. Proficient - Clearly explains in detail the issue to be considered, delivering enough relevant information for an adequate understanding.
(0.44 / 0.5) Written Communication: Content Development. Proficient - Uses appropriate and pertinent content to discover ideas within the context of the discipline, shaping the work as a whole. (0.5 / 0.5) Written Communication: Context of and Purpose for Writing. Distinguished - Demonstrates methodical application of organization and presentation of content. The purpose of the writing is evident and easy to understand. Summaries, quotes, and/or paraphrases fit naturally into the sentences and paragraphs. Paper flows smoothly. (0.3 / 0.3) Written Communication: Control of Syntax and Mechanics. Distinguished - Displays meticulous comprehension and organization of syntax and mechanics, such as spelling and grammar. Written work contains no errors, and is very easy to understand.
(0.3 / 0.3) Written Communication: APA Formatting. Distinguished - Accurately uses APA formatting consistently throughout the paper, title page, and reference page. (0.3 / 0.3) Written Communication: Page Requirement. Distinguished - The paper meets the specific page requirement stipulated in the assignment description. (0.3 / 0.3) Written Communication: Resource Requirement.
Week 4. Usually continues back to normal, 2 discussion post and a quiz. Week 5. Discussion posts are due but your final paper is due. This is about 30% of your total grade and weighs verily heavily on your understanding of the course material as well as your ability to gather sufficient and proficient reference material from the library. The more papers I have done, the better I have become at using the library. The more references you use, along with your ability to format the use of them in APA format in the paper, the higher your grade will be. The minimum requirement is usually 5-8, but I typically use about 20. Like I said, it sounds difficult, but I can usually knock out a 10 page paper in 2 to 3 days, or about 10 hours, for a 98% or better.
Teacher interaction: I rarely contact the teacher for any advice or questions. The format of the assignments is pretty straight forward and after about 4 classes you should have the hang of things. This is probably the biggest personal issue that people have with this school, based on the reviews that I have read. I can speak from experience as I have completed over 60 units at the community college level, that the ability for any teacher to actually teach and be great at doing it, is a hit and miss. It does not matter if they have a PhD, or two masters, or have been teaching for 50 years.
Also, the only exception in my entire educational career, at 90 units, where I have needed a real personal touch from a teacher to put in the time and meet me more than halfway in terms of help and explanations, was for my trigonometry, pre-cal, and calculus classes. Each time I had to make appointments, have my questions ready, and put in a significant amount of work in order to pass. So, unless you engage a teacher for yourself, you are going to be treated like an adult without having your hand held and assumed to be in charge of things; like understanding the material.
Student interaction: This is my biggest personal issue. Along with your two discussion posts that are due each week, you are also required to respond to two of your classmates posts, for a total of four responses. The minimum word requirement is 150 words with at least one reference from the book and you have to write more than I agree/disagree with you. My issue is that most, about 95%, hardly put in the effort to give you a college worthy response. It's horrible. I put in a tremendous amount of effort into all my responses and rarely do I get good feedback. The responses are only 1%, so you can literally put in a piss poor effort and still get .5%, which must explain the laziness. I have made suggestions to the faculty at Ashford to up the word requirements to 250, have them due sooner, and weight the points heavier, but we'll see. Other than that, you are literally on your own.
Scheduling breakdown for each 5 week course: Two discussion posts: due Thursday, 250 word minimum, one reference and two paragraphs minimum. Four responses: due Monday and 150 word minimum requirement. Quizzes: due Monday, anywhere from 5-25 multiple-choice questions, and usually every week. Assignment 1: due Monday, 3-6 pages, 3-5 references, APA format. Assignment 2: due Monday, 8-15 pages, 5-8 references, APA format. Each week covers two chapters from the book as well as any assigned readings and videos.
Grading: Is pretty consistent across all the courses I have encountered. However, personally I am still unsure of a couple of things. It may sound weird but here me out. I put in a tremendous amount of work into my homework/assignments/papers, etc. I usually go above and beyond the minimum, only because this school is expensive and I want to get out what I put in. Second, I came from an engineering background in my work career, so liberal arts studies come very easy to me. Therefore, it is my perception that this school is easy in terms of difficulty, but, I have been a student for a long time, understand how to read instructions, am a great independent worker, and take my education very seriously, so it is not a knock against the school curriculum, it is only how I perceive it. It may be the other way for somebody else.
Financial Aid: The school is expensive, like I said. It is literally full price, plus some. The U.S. federal government allows x amount of dollars per year to be dispersed to a borrower for a given semester/year, then after that you need to get personal loans. Ashford charges the maximum allowable, plus about $700. So, you will get a call once a year asking for the payment. This might explain why students owe money by the time they graduate. For example: If you did not transfer any units, you are on the hook for about $60,000 in tuition/fees, etc. In addition to that, you will owe about $700 per each year. So, this can add up to $2800+. Hence, why you owe money to graduate.
2 cents: I have had zero problems with the school with the aforementioned notes I laid out. This includes grading, teachers, students, departments, etc. I don't cheat on any of my papers, and I am religiously meticulous about citing my references, so I don't worry about getting accused of plagiarism. I do have fears about my future career in business after I graduate, so I can't assume that my educational experience at Ashford could be the reason to blame for any shortcomings in potential jobs. Meaning, is Ashford respected when a potential employer sees that my BA was from here and not USC or Notre Dame? Who knows?
If you do decided to study business you will learn one important aspect, this might actually apply to your life as well, and that is that you cannot state that you exist for money. Anu Aga says, "We survive by breathing but we can't say we live to breathe. Likewise, making money is very important for a business to survive, but money alone cannot be the reason for business to exist" (as cited in Epps, 2012, p. 33).

After looking into this school and enrolling, I had to withdraw before even starting class due to a family emergency. I emailed my adviser and spoke on the phone with him. He assured me that it would be taken care of. Guess what, today is the first day of the class and he never withdrew me, and now financial aide office is calling wanting their missing paper work. Mind you I already removed them from my FAFSA so they could not get any of my money... Now no one in the admissions office answer the phone nor call me back... Do NOT waste your time dealing with these people. They are pushy, rude and could care less about how you feel about it. The adviser I had talked to me as if I was a child and had no clue how to do anything... He attempted to walk me through their student portal and by the time he figured out the log in I was half way through all the paper work...

Has anyone else ever made a perfect score on a final paper and then have 6 points deducted saying you could have committed plagiarism? If plagiarism is ever committed a 0 is to be given. I think this instructor is upset that I gave her a bad review on the end-of-class survey. I have written MANY papers since attending here and will graduate in Feb. I read and reread the paper and also did a plagiarism check on it and found NOTHING!

I think the flexibility is great with the school, and most of the faculty and instructors have been very helpful at times. I have chosen to withdrawal from the school because of several issues I have been having in my personal life. When first enrolling, my first academic advisor was extremely helpful and supportive, helped keep me on track. Then I received a new advisor, and for 2 semesters, I had reached out to him for support, information, etc. Even recently the need to with withdrawal because of health issues in which I needed to dedicate more time to and take care off. After my attempts, I heard no response. Yet I would get emails regarding my attendance, or announcements, if I responded to those emails, there was still no response.
So what I am having to do is contact the school, to contact his supervisor to ask for my withdrawal to be processed before my class ends because if not it will state I have failed. I have offered to provide the school any/all medical documentation if needed. Still waiting on a response. The lack of support from my advisor has definitely discouraged me from attending the school.

My main problem was being lied to and mislead about financial aid. 3 Weeks into my first class I was finally able to see my reward letter and wasn't happy with the numbers. At this time it was too late to leave the school because I still would've been charged so I decided to finish the classes. Ok, with my Pell grant and two different loans, I was certain that I could receive a decent amount of money to take care of my family. I was pregnant at the time and couldn't work full time any more so financially I depended on the money from school like most people.
I spoke to my advisor immediately and explain my frustration about being funded over $7,000 and only receiving $1,800 because 4 classes cost over $5,000. So that also meant I would be up to $10,000 in debt by the second semester. Just imagine how much in debt I'll be in by 2019. You tell me how a person was supposed to stretch out $1800 for 5 months with a family of 3. I could all day about what my advisor and the financial department had to say, just know they were all lies and I wish I NEVER attended this school.

Don't go to this school, I repeat don't attend this school. Ashford University has dropped me from all of my classes and placed a block on my account. I have been going there since 2012 and now that graduation is approaching they are stating I owe them 6300, if I don't pay I won't be able to complete any more classes with them or anywhere else. At the beginning of October they said I owed 3400 now it's 6300. No one can explain to me where the cost are coming from. I have now filed a complaint with the Department of Ed because I believe they are in the scamming business.

I started last Nov. 2014 at AU. I was very pleased with the school. Unlike many of the other reviews I did not have the issues with finances, since my work had covered the courses. I received all A and one A- in my courses and was so happy with school. I started SCI 207 Dependence of Man and the Environment n 10/13/15. Right away something did not feel right with this course. The first week the instructor was very harsh with grading. I sent him an email because I was confused about an assignment. I never received a response back after waiting over 48 hours, but had to turn the assignment in or it would be late. When I got my grade and saw how many points he took off is when I sent the email and questioned his grading. His response was I should have reached out to him. I explain that I did and even gave him the time I sent the email. His response was "I guess I missed that", but of course this did not help me.
The second week of class again came another week of grading that to me was unreasonable. At this point I contacted the school and talked to an advisor. He suggested I submit an instructor issue form and appeal my grade. I wanted to hold off because my instructor was a Dean of a College and I already felt he did not like that I question my grade in the first week what would he do if I filed an issue for on him? The advisor assured me that they are anonymous. I waited until 10/31/15 when it was the final straw and again was graded very low. Last night I came home and again saw week 3 grade and discussion again marked low after using 4 sources and the text and typing well over the 150 word requirement. Then I received my grade on my rough draft we submitted for my assignment and received a 0.
I was shocked. I thought there may be a computer glitch and then read the instructors comments that he was accusing me of plagiarism. I was beyond shocked. I could not believe this. I had no way cheated. I did however go back to my Lab and correct some of the things I had messed up on from the instructor’s feedback and formatted my information what I thought was a better form. I contacted my advisor and she said, “Oh that, you’re not in any trouble”, but was shocked I received a 0 for the entire assignment and that I could withdraw from the class and take it another time. I got off the phone with her and the more I thought about this the angrier I got.
How dare this man accuse me of cheating and now I felt I was labeled as a dishonest person with the school. Then again I remembered that I issued this form on Sat. It was not three days since that. This man is a dean of a college so I am positive he saw the complaint and again taking action against me. So after a sleepless night and the more I thought of it I withdrew from AU. I cannot believe the school would employ a person who is allowed to ruin a reputation of a person. Also for this man to be a Dean of a College I felt I had no choice to but to withdraw. Fear he could do more harm to me even after the class is over.

I started this school back in 2012 and was supposed to graduate this year 2015. The past few classes I have taken the instructors have accused me of cheating and been reporting my assignments as plagiarism. It’s been three different classes and different instructors and they have all given me F for a grade and reported me to the student conduct committee and since I have received three different ones I now have to have hearing and may be dismissed from the school.
I had all my assignments turned in on time and did my own research and they kept telling me I used this website or that one to cheat and I use the school’s library to do all my research and then they had the nerve to accuse my 7 year old daughter of doing the cheating for me looking up pages to cheat from. For one, I don’t bring my daughter into it and two she doesn’t know how to use my laptop plus it have a password that only I know. I really don’t think this school wants anyone to graduate they make all kinds of excuses and waste your money and what aid you get so you have to pay more back.

My issues with Ashford were like this. I will admit I had failed a couple of classes because some of those classes like Information Tech, Introduction in C++ really need to be taught in a classroom setting not online along with Electronic Medical Technology. They wanted you to get whole new computer to fit their classes. I received my stipends from aid. Aid paid for my classes. At the end of Bachelors, put in for graduation, I was charged this huge amount. I was told those fees will not be covered by aid even if I pulled out another $1000 to pay for it.
So I finished, with a $900 balance. Now this is where it gets stupid. I sign a repayment schedule paying $50 a month. Made two payments, had some financial hardship so I got behind. So I was asked by the advisor will be returning, I had sure. Re-did my aid. I was told by four advisors that if I returned and completed my aid, that the balance will wipe out. Asked me if I wanted to TRY OUT two classes, and it won't be charged. I received a collection letter for over $4000. Charging me for the classes I did take and didn't take.

Took an online class through Ashford as a trial. I was badgered by emails and calls for months and finally agreed to take a course on a test run. Little did I know, course book was written by the teacher. I took multiple tests and each one had multiple answers. Spoke with teacher about it, first time teacher agreed questions were not clear, multiple answers, then got upset that I kept pointing out that the questions were not specific and had multiple potential answers coming from the text he had written. Didn't do a bit of good. Teacher refused to accept the reality that things were not clearly stated or asked on tests and that test questions allowed for multiple answers.
Spoke with administration and voiced my concern, finished the class with passing grade and asked to not pay and not continue as class had not gone well and thought I was on trial run. Of course they did not let me. And reported the debt to the credit bureau. Do not fool yourself. This is not a school. The teachers are writing their own books, making up their own questions and answers and just making money. This is not about education. The class was terrible. And the customer service was worse.

Before I get into it, the part where it states that there are internal scholarships available is a LIE. That is only true for their brick-and-mortar students, which is the beginning of my irritation and anger with this institute. When I first spoke to the SALESPERSON about attending, the question of scholastic scholarships was a big one for me. At the time, I was a single mom with four kids (one of whom is high-maintenance special needs), there was no way that I could schedule a traditional school around all that - but I really, really needed to get a degree so that I could provide for my family. I was assured that I would qualify for scholarships after only a few classes, when I demonstrated my abilities. I rocked a solid 4.0 for the entire time, repeated on the Dean's List - but when I inquired about the scholastic scholarships, I was informed that those only applied to IN PERSON students.
But I could totally go onto Scholarships dot com and apply for some there. If you've ever been to that site, you can readily see that trying to get scholarships from there is a full-time job in and of itself, in addition to also going to school AND working full-time to support a family. It was, frankly, pretty insulting, especially since I'd already shown my value as a student.
Which brings me to my second point, and that's the odd mix of instructors and textbooks. I appreciate that the textbooks had to be formatted specifically for an online environment, but when all the books are sponsored by and written exclusively by the institution - there were no texts from external sources - that lends for a moment of pause. Of particular annoyance was that not all of the books were written well - and the books that weren't written well unfortunately seemed to coincide with the least helpful and unpleasant instructors.
I finished all of my core classes and was only three courses into my business track when I rage-quit during an Accounting class. The course book was not clear, assumed some kind of preexisting knowledge, and when I emailed the instructor (repeatedly) for assistance, her attitude was one of snotty dismissal. This class coupled with yet ANOTHER tuition hike was enough for me to call it quits.
Fast forward to today (after being mostly unemployed after leaving them), and now that I'm looking to enroll in a different school, I find out that they didn't apply the last of my financial aid to my account, charged off the cost of the last class, and have a hold on my transcript - AND there's no way to email anyone about the problem. I'm not expecting a happy resolution from this, but frankly, if I have to retake all of those courses, it wouldn't be the end of the world. Maybe this time I'll actually feel like I'm being challenged.

2008-2011 While serving active duty in the US NAVY, I decided to attend ASHFORD.EDU online. I was doing pretty well with a high GPA. With short notice I had to deploy to IRAQ late 2010 and had no internet or very slow internet to access the school portal. Before I deployed, I talked to my school advisor about my situation and he said I was going to be excused from this course, and continue when I get back 7 months later. While I was on my first month of deployment I was notified by my wife, stating that I got a letter from ASHFORD stating that I need to log in to the ASHFORD portal and submit an essay or I will fail the course. The advisor lied to me. My wife talked to the school and they gave her the run around. I was able to write the essay they were asking for, was able to post it from IRAQ with very slow internet; but it made it into my portal for a grade.
One week later my wife said she got a letter from the school stating that I apparently plagiarized the essay and that I automatically failed the course. So now, apparently I owe ASHFORD EDU. $750.00 for failing the course and I will not receive my transcripts until I pay!!! I was dropped from the school on my third month!!!! Surprisingly this never made it to my credit report; it's been almost 4 years I was shy 12 credits from obtaining my BA on Organizational Management. I got back from deployment and tried to contact my advisor, the school said he is no longer an advisor at ASHFORD, and the school would not work with me. I don't recommend this Garbage school to anyone; luckily I used my ACTIVE Duty Tuition Assistance to pay for my courses. It's late 2015 and the school still will not release my transcripts. With a 3.67 GPA, I will complete my last class at Ashford University with a Bachelor's in Communication Studies. However, tuition hikes have caused me to maximize student loans and grants leaving a remaining balance of $1,126.07 plus graduation processing fee of $150. If not paid, I will not officially graduate because they will put a hold on my account. On 8/3/2015, Accounts Receivable Specialist Jennifer ** tells me that my charge request of FAFSA up institutional charges doesn't account for tuition hikes. Therefore incurring these added charges not covered by FAFSA. I have taken up her recommendations to submit a FAFSA application to revise my previous request for more money.
I think when students begin at an academic institution, tuition rates should lock in to reflect what students enroll for. After all, this is money we have to pay back to the government, which in turn reflects tax payer dollars at work. At the end of the day, my near $30,000 student debt of a bachelor's degree isn't even recognized by interviewers as an achievement. Good luck to those who can get a decent job. This college is definitely misleading and is a total nightmare! I wanted to withdraw and was advise by my advisor that I could not withdraw. I called twice and both times I was provided with the same information. I conducted some research and spoke with a few people, including my wife, who stated that the information provided was definitely wrong. I called the third time and spoke with the same individual who stated I could not withdraw. She contradicted herself when she heard my wife get on the line stating that she is providing misleading, false information - she then agreed that I could withdraw. When I asked to speak with the manager she (the manager) said she would listen to the recording and call me back.
When she called back her questions was "What would you like to be done?" Does this confirm that the information provided to me was false and misleading or no? It absolutely does. She didn't mention the recording once until I mentioned it. She said at the end of the second conversation I stated I would complete the course. Well, of course because I was forced to stay! If a student calls twice and twice they are denied a withdrawal - what other options do they have but to complete the course that would not be completed and result in a "F" anyway? I wasn't given any other option or any options at all even after explaining my personal situation. She (the manager) mentioned lawyers and sending me to collections.
This has to be the worst experience ever! She said all calls are recorded and I couldn't be happier because they should be for the sake of students who are being forced to stay in a college so that they can collect more money and harm their loans and FAFSA. What I didn't understand is why I am being withdrawn as of the date I called the third time and not the first time? Why ask "what would you like to be done" if I have to be withdrawn on a date they want instead of the date I called? Why ask what would I like to be done and they do whatever they please anyway? Horrible experience!

Tried to get this corrected with the proper department with no prevail. They just don't care and are going downhill. This will go to the veteran’s administration for review.

Ashford is a great school. I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism & Mass Communication for Ashford and I am two classes away from a Master of Arts in Organizational Management. However, the journey has been great. I wish I could say that I have been the best student, but I failed Math 222 and quit, withdrew a few times so that I owed money for that. Of course, they kept my degree [BA], but I have a payment plan and will pay that off so that I will receive both of my degrees in the mail soon. I complete my MA in October so I am excited about that. Also, I completed my BA with a GPA of 3.42, and right now in my MA I hold a 3.88, I had a rough teacher, or rather an instructor whose etiquette was less that kosher, and I had a class that was difficult making a B in both of those.
One thing I have to say about faculty is that they try to help, however, I believe a couple I have had have let their degree status go to their head you can tell it; even if they do not believe so. My advisors have been great, especially the one I have now because she sets appointments for us to speak each month. I love that from academic advisor, admission counselors have been great. Lastly, I have to say that I love to write so if people are not independent workers, or like to write then online may not be for you. I say that, because some people need to see and touch and need hands on, and do well with someone they can talk to in person. I use to need that too. One last thing, hang in there will you?

I taught at Ashford for four years. I enjoyed interacting with the students and teaching subjects, for which I have great interest. I consistently received excellent evaluations/surveys from both my supervisors and students. However, I do believe this school may be on its way down, financially speaking. I understand they just settled a hefty lawsuit for misleading students. Also, they are just not able to retain students long enough for them to graduate. I saw this first hand as I began teaching core classes and moved up to upper division classes. The core classes were always full, while the upper division classes usually had only 5-7 students!
I was not surprised when I was 'let go' because I just could not understand how they were able to pay me for such small classes. That said, I was very surprised by the callousness involved in how they let teachers go. My email account was disabled. I had no clue and called the help desk to see what was wrong. They forwarded my issue and I ended up getting a template email from 'faculty scheduling' telling me 'thanks' but they had no classes for me. Such a strange way to run a business. Especially when there are already so many bad reviews out there. They only had to send a simple email to my personal account to give me a heads up. I would not recommend this university for either a potential student or faculty member.

I started Ashford University in January 2012 with the hopes of finding my place in higher education, and slowly but surely, I did. I navigated through the coursework and was awarded a Bachelor's Degree in Political Science in February 2014 with a final GPA of 3.86. I am currently on track to complete a Master's Degree in Public Administration with a GPA of 4.0 (fingers crossed) in November 2015. I am active-duty military and am often trying to count the minutes in a day to make sure I have ample time to complete homework for school. If you abide by the rules in the Student Catalog, it's easy to cancel or withdraw from courses.
Online schooling is not for everyone because it requires reading the assigned materials, adequate research, and making time for school - not just fitting it into a schedule. Ashford's customer service could use some help, but in my experience most schools lack in this area. Also, the school is pricey, but in upper-level courses you get what you pay for! The instructors are generally helpful and the online classroom is easily navigated. Overall, Ashford is a great school - it may not be a 'best' - but it is well worth the price.

I was looking for a bachelor degree that I did not have to take Algebra because I have failed every Algebra class I tried. I told this to the Admissions lady, and she assured me that if I take a History Bachelor degree I would not have to take Algebra. That was the catch-all. I worked my way through two bachelor degrees, one in History, and one in Criminal justice, and at the end of all this education, they forced me to take algebra to be able to get my degrees. I failed Algebra and they are jerking me around by keeping me on their registrar books trying to infiltrate me to other kinds of help like the CLEP. All those other programs it is the same thing, take Algebra to get my degree. So, I won't take more Algebra because it lowers my good standing of GPA. It is called a Con job.

The common denomination for adults with families is that we do not have time for the traditional brick and motor school, which is where it is easily to catch the attention of students who want to return to school. When I first started out in the online setting, I was a single mom with two children and worked two jobs. I started with Western International University and received my Associates. Schooling had to take a break after that as I was heavily going through a divorce.
When I started looking to return to school I saw that Ashford University was hiring so I applied and got the job. Shortly thereafter starting school because as employees we got to go to school for free. I excelled at my job, became top 10% of the company within the first six months, enrolling an average of 5-6 students per week. I worked 7-6 daily and every Saturday just to be able to keep up with my students. By the time I got home, it was all I could do to keep my eyes open to go to school which ended in failing grades.
While working at Ashford I remarried and within a month they suggested my husband start school, just another way to reach a quota. There was no way this was a smart idea, and I felt pressure; if I didn't I would lose my job. They were lying to me as they trained me to lie to students. Honestly I feel so guilty. To make a very long story short, I was never promoted because I was doing so well where I was as an admissions counselor that they kept denying my promotions. Practically, I was doing my job, my manager's job and all my team member's job while helping all my students the best I could.
Well my health from the stress got so bad I was having panic attacks and formed an ulcer from the stress leading me to go on a MLOA. While I was on my leave they would not let me out of my class, charging me for failing the classes. So I had to apply for financial aid to cover it. After not returning to work, all the classes I had taken they charged me for and now I owe the school almost 10 grand and I am unable to get my 104 credit taken there to finish my 120 BA degree anywhere else. And now I owe 36k in student loans. Absolute crap, and not something that should happen to anyone. I have tried for two years to get this resolved but of course NONE will chat with me. So I plan to take a different course of action.

Also they need to know their own physical address pin to their shirt like kindergartners. I got the wrong address twice. Email wrong and physical. I will not have any respect for a grown person that is that stupid and has a job in a school. Maybe if that school will hire me I will show them how to do their job correct. But you won't hire me because I am an older white male.

After a nearly twenty year hiatus from college I returned to school. I wanted to get my BS in education, then a masters in special education. The recruiter did not say this course track was not available, he simply signed me up. Not till I was well into my second year did I realize the degree was for social science not education. When I mentioned this to my adviser I was told it is the same thing, naively I bought this story.
Long story short I graduated with a 4.0 owing a staggering amount. Following this I tried to get into a masters program three different places for a Special Ed. degree and am told I am not qualified for the program. To top it all off I was counting on this degree to get a decent job. Now I find out I am overqualified for most jobs, and under qualified for others. I owe thousands being that I had lost my job just a month prior to starting at Ashford. When the news talks of predatory colleges, I truly feel Ashford University fits the bill. Why is Corinthians Colleges being given loan forgiveness when so many Ashford alumni, and/or prior students have the same issues?

I completed my BA degree in Healthcare Administration in 2009. Six months later I decided to enroll at Ashford in the MA program to earn a degree in Health Education. During my 4th class in this program, I had a bad experience with my instructor. It was so bad she and I had a hollering match using our personal email accounts. During this time our emails use to go via of the blackboard directly into our personal emails. Later they changed this because of student complaints and too many unnecessary emails. The instructor was so proud of her PhD degree that she flaunted it to the class every chance she could. On one of our email chat, I told her that it was a great accomplishment to have earned a PhD, but that it does not make her better than anyone else.
I told her that we are all people and deserve to be treated with respect. After all without students, she would not receive a paycheck. She took it the wrong way and started emailing me in a negative tone, using bold red letters in all caps. To have a PhD she did not know email etiquette. I reported her and sent all the emails to my academic advisor, did nothing. To make a long story short, I left Ashford and completed my MA degree with a credible school that had a great reputation. I also had to pay money to Ashford before they would send my transcript to my new school.

People such as advisors people that said that they would be there should you have any problem were never available. This in turn was a nightmare especially when you grade in plummeting and you have no one calling you back. Hats off to the instructor for doing all she did though, however that was very frustrating that I had to prove evidence that the grading system was extremely flawed. I had the displeasure of having a core testing system that was outsourced by Ashford. While I was getting 100%, when my grade transferred to Ashfords or the instructors books the grade was chopped in half. It was finally resolved but not until I had to do the legwork. I am currently enrolled at Ashford University. I hadn't had much of a complaint about the school until recently! I completed my first class EXP105 which is 1 of 2 preliminary classes for the B.A. that I had signed up for. I hadn't looked up the reviews until now. I didn't really care because I have kept my GPA moderately high and had only been focused on completing the work.
During this class one of my peers had criticized my work and publicly humiliated me without any reason other than to spite me. She harassed me and badgered me for the last 4 weeks. I complained every time I spoke to my Admissions councilor and had not found resolution. Today I received an email from the School's disciplinary board stating that I am being reviewed for disrupting a peer's learning via an email that I had asked her to leave me alone because I am sick and on radiation treatment and do not need her grief. Turns out they have reviewed her 1 complaint about the email and decided it was sufficient enough to review me. Not once in the 10 times I complained about her needless harassment was I offered the option to file a complaint.
My Admissions councilor only calls me because all students are required to provide 2 references in order to attend Ashford University! The problem is that I do not know anyone. And the individuals I do talk to have already completed a degree. I am extremely upset now. I have dedicated time and money into this "University" for them to disregard all of my complaints and send me to the disciplinary board because of another student's deliberate attempts to get rid of me.I can confirm that Ashford University cuts corners in order to obtain enrollment. Everyone is required to take a 3 week course prior to admission. I never had to take this course. In fact my Admissions councilor had me lie and claim credits with a Community College I registered for but never attended in order to bypass this course.
It sounds if I am stuck if I am not expelled, and if I am expelled I will be seeking relief through a court of law. It is ridiculous that I can complain for 4 weeks about being harassed. And when I finally give up and the individual that had caused me grief can now file one complaint, and I am automatically up for review according to Ashford University's standards, the same standards that had been violated for weeks while I was being harassed.
I sought a solution to this issue for weeks and when I email the individual and asked them to leave me alone, I am now the one who violated the school's policy??? What happen to my rights??? Was I to not say anything to the individual and allow her to badmouth me and discredit my assignments?!! Even worse is that the harassment was acknowledged by several faculty members and I have documentation showing my innocence in the incident and it isn't even being reviewed! None of the faculty members who acknowledged this harassment can be witness to my case.

I read the majority of the negative reviews from other students before joining Ashford University 6 years ago. I spoke to several employees of insurance companies that had attended AU about their experience and finally spoke to multiple academic advisors before making my decision. First, let me begin by saying that the Ashford University online degrees are not for everyone. If you are not comfortable with basic computer skills, you will not succeed in this course. If you are looking for an easy school to just post the bare minimum, pay your tuition and pass, this is not the school for you. If you cannot study on your own and look for answers on your own, this is not the school for you.
I graduated in 2013 with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration - International Management and I can tell you the truth. The classes at the beginning are boring, I wasn't interested in them and I hated having to write papers on subjects I couldn't care less for. But, guess what? That's how each core curriculum is for ANY college or university you attend. Once you get past the basic junk that you are supposed to learn you can actually invest time in researching and choosing the elective courses you are in fact interested in. The school provided me with a list of things I needed to do in every course and then I took it upon myself to write drafts, submit the paper for review by TA's and Professors, check for plagiarism in Turnitin and use the library resources provided.
As a result, I graduated top of my class and every single paper I wrote had positive detailed feedback from instructors. If you write a junk paper 2 hours before the due date professors will in fact give you a bad grade or get upset at even having to correct 90 % of your twitter like essay. I was in some classes where we started with say 15 students and by the last week there was 4 of us. I can only assume that the rest of the people didn't have what it takes to succeed. A couple months before graduating from my undergraduate studies with 0 financial aid issues and 0 academic issues I decided to take SMART track courses that basically count as credit towards a Masters Degree and saved me thousands on tuition costs. I then transitioned without interruption into the Graduate school program of the Forbes School of Business.
My experience in Graduate School was frustrating but very rewarding. Why do I say that? Well, it's quite simple. It was twice as hard to get a good grade in Graduate School, it should be. I had papers returned to me by PhD professors with half the grade and a bunch of errors pointed out to me at the beginning. The opportunity for development feedback made me want to do better and constantly challenged me to spend extra time researching and drafting every week. By the end of the 2 years I was able to get "A" grades on my papers and they would constantly run my papers through PhD databases for originality checks. Assignments in both Undergrad & Grad are usually due on day 3 and day 7 but Gradschool courses are 1 or 2 more weeks long. You need to make sure that you keep yourself accountable for reading, drafting and submitting stuff for review at least 1-2 days before they are due so that a professor has time to respond.
I have just graduated from my MBA-Global Management and I feel that I am ready for any business situation that gets thrown at me. Now, regarding jobs and careers, let me just say that I doubled my salary from the time I graduated with a BBA to the time I got my MBA and the degree had a lot to do with it as my employer used it as a requirement to even consider me for the next step up the ladder. Today, as the regional director of a well known insurance company I can certify that the Ashford University is a good choice for students who have the drive to succeed. I have not been paid to say this and I have over 80k in debt I need to pay the government back.

I was lied to about my degree. The classes I took had and never had anything to do with my degree. I first entered in for hospitality and tourism BS degree which was changed to hotel and service management BA. I was told they do not offer BS classes. I was overbilled and charged for digital material fees and student tuition when my tuition was being paid by my loans and pell grants. They were taking money from my pell grants claiming room and board transportation etc and collecting over 10K per pell. I supplied my own books and yet was charged for digital materials I never even was allowed to own or download complete ebooks I was billed for in full, when the whole time they were denying to me doing such when I live in IL. And each time I complained I was put under dropped withdrawal status or was knocked out of classes for holds such as asking for proof of ID and then brought up on charges stating I was not doing my own work.
Lastly when there is so much to complain about this school that refused to allow me to transfer out threatened me if I left I would owe the school its money outside of the loans and grants? I was overbilled for classes that were only 2 credits but they bill 3 credits per class regardless. They would not supply me with a catalog as asked for by the department of Education showing each class and its credits remarking the catalogs are on my student portal, well yes there are catalogs are there no credits appear and still refused to mail an actual catalog and owed 425.00 for overbilling on each class and had also changed my degree and field of studies.
A class action lawsuit was settled in 2014 against Ashford that bought out a small Franciscan university of only 300 students and began targeting students that had military GI bills and they are listed in the GOA as an unaccredited college that does not offer actual job certification let alone valid degree courses. I intend to keep reporting how they played their scams out. Brought false charges against me overbilled and lied on Pell and fafsa grants lying to students or telling us how to fill them out and what codes or information to files or offered to dial for you while you sat on the phone giving information that is not true or correct.
After fighting for money they owe me and money I actually paid they still never repaid the money owed to me and deducted money from a settlement to repay the funds I am owed which to date I have not received back and still fighting for on many different charges and overbilled and unexplainable charges students do not owe. They force you to pay for graduation ceremonies that could not take place as this is and there is no real or actual university. Their pictures of campus life sports etc are all false and they are actually a business ran out of 4 states I have figured out thus far. I WOULD love to find an education lawyer to sue for over 50k owed for charges which are false and overbilled and they draw you in lies and billing is illegal as per their class action multi million dollar lawsuit settled in 2014 which can be found online.
I need help and trying to gather students to help from another class action lawsuit that relates and can be combined in this past settled case of 2014. It is not only theft of services but also a scam for student loans and pell and fafsa grants used and charged with malice and deceit per student and I urge other students to check their Pell grants to see the actual money pulled and used by Ashford aka Bridgeport and also recently known as Forbes business schools and to report them to your state's attorney general's office for legal action to reimburse student loans grants and such immediately. Also note the instructors are actual students who earned degrees via Ashford that are not actual instructors or professors and even lie there regarding staff.

When I first spoke to a rep with Ashford University, I was told that credits were $463 (approx) per credit and about $1400 per 3 credit class. Because I have previous credits, the rep and I figured that I would end up paying about 40k to complete my degree online with Ashford University. After starting the school I noticed that a 3 credit class actually cost more like $1900. I get the max allowed in student loans but my student loans don't cover the tuition (which no one told me).
Due to other factors, such as a zillion calls a day, my student adviser changing almost once a week, being given incorrect information, and the classes seeming ridiculous, I asked to withdraw from the school. I literally sent 8 requests, talked to 3 different, people (who all took up way too much of my time trying to get me to stay with the school then honoring my request) before I was called by yet another student adviser, who told me if I pulled out of school, I would owe out of pocket to Ashford. I was told this is due to the way they receive loan money from the government in blocks of 4 classes.
I called the financial adviser who informed me that I would owe out of pocket either way, because my student loans hadn't covered any of my classes entirely and that I'll either owe them out of pocket, once I graduate, or when I withdraw, but I'd owe them either way. Ashford is solely about money. Student advisers act as though they work on commission. I highly recommend you stay away from this school.

Being a veteran and having the Post 9-11 GI Bill, all of my courses and books are paid for by the government. I also receive Pell Grant money since I am an undergraduate. Ashford bills students well ahead of their schedule and keeps Pell Grant money for 3-6 months at a time, giving it out only in pieces. Now the Pell Grant is given as two payments per academic year of $2,865 each. There is no reason for Ashford to take that money, but they do.
I moved to the Philippines into what used to be a safe city. There are terrorists here now, building a training camp just outside the city, and that money they owe could easily be used to move quickly to a safer city or island. Oh no.... Ashford MUST have that Pell Grant money (for reasons unknown). They could care less about the safety, security, or even the LIVES of one of their students.
When I first enrolled into a B.A. in Education - English Language Learners, I was not told that the degree was not accredited for licensure anywhere in the U.S. It was not until I had completed over 50 course hours that I found that out. This lying tactic effectively locks a military student into Ashford by wasting their GI Bill benefits to a point where they might not have a choice but to continue earning what might indeed be a worthless degree. I started in November 2010, needless to say they did not receive their accreditation until June 2014.
Furthermore, the three classes that I failed due to sickness and death in the family, they did not only charge me but the government as well. The advisers switch every few months so it begins to become a hassle trying to contact anyone with my questions. I didn't mind the workload (Even if it is on an accelerated program), nor expected an easy ride, in fact I did relatively well until I decided to leave. There were several peers in the class discussions that literally copy pasted work from the internet (word for word), and had referenced it completely wrong. I taught courses for AU for several years. I do not wish to have any retribution back from the college. At the beginning of my job we had teaching assistants to help us grade endless papers from students due each week. That lasted 6 months into my employment, then they dismissed those assistants. Instructors were then responsible for having up to 40 students per 5 week term. Pay was scant. $1200 per 5 week term. We did not really "teach", we were given a course model and had to follow it by using "best practices" and rubrics. Any person could do it really, it insulted all the education we had striven to achieve.
I cannot begin to tell you how many students told me I was one of the only teachers that: A) answered their emails, B) graded their work swiftly, C) was kind and helpful, D) made the class interesting and fun. My student evals reflected this fact each and every time. Most of my students did not know how to write essays correctly in a paper driven class, or take criticism and change their work. No one could read directions and rarely did they write a paper to specifications. Some students were unable to do simple tasks such as comment on discussion boards or post responses on time or opening a blog. Many of them were monetarily poor, had serious illnesses or were lacking any kind of preparatory education, even high school.
Curiously, for some reason, there is no human resources dept. If you call a supervisor, they do not return any phone calls, although the people who help you with team leading are helpful, the attrition is high. The review process is extremely insulting. Once a year they check your courses and find all the things wrong with your classes and offer you a mentor to work with to improve your business model. We have clients, not students here. There is no recognition for time spent in emails or telephone calls with students. We also get no recognition for assistance with help on papers.
The "powers that be" want us to have canned discussion responses ready to cut and paste into the boards. This alleviates all manner of contact or connection with the students on a personal level. We are to be robots and they are the recipient of that model of educational "BEST" practice. It is meant to be cookie cutter. No credit is given for people with years of experience and many supervisors are fresh out of college with little to no experience in academia.
If the supervisors do not want you to teach for them anymore there is no notice, no email, no phone call and no letter. They just cut you off. You are an adjunct and dispensable. They make sure the contracts are listed this way, although I am told most people usually hear from a Dean when they are let go. Not so. Calls go unanswered, emails do as well and the unprofessional climate of the company maintains its dicey reputation. To put it nicely: bye bye, do not let the door hit you on the way out.
I love my students and always wanted and still want the best for them. Teaching for a "company" in this atmosphere is not conducive to a healthy work environment. This is the definite worst work model I have ever worked for and believe me, I have worked for many colleges in the past. This place is a sham and has an egregious work model.

Things were going pretty good until 2012-2014 when I had family issues which I failed one of my classes and withdrew from the other at the required time to withdraw. When I returned I took those two classes again which I understand but them when I passed them they still have the failed classes on my record.
Secondly, I received lots of misinformation about financial aid and the worst lie was from my previous academic advisor. They said was to pay out of pocket because I had no more financial aid and needed to set up payment plan which I did and started paying every month. At the end of my degree program they withdrew my remaining two classes/courses because they said I owe $10,000- of that amount I needed to pay $2520 for the balance two classes.
Again when I called and talk to someone from the financial aid office she told me I had only $2000 financial and when I went through my financial account I never saw the $2000 been applied to anything. When I talked the payment department they told me to start my two classes. I have to pay up front the full amount while on payment plan.
When time came to pay for my two remaining classes to start I was referred to the reenrollment department. When I talked to them they told me I have to pay all the $10000 before I can restart classes again. There are so many lies/misinformation when it comes to money in this school all because it is a for profit school so they screw people up. The department of education should investigate this school.

I attended and I eventually ran out of financial aid. I didn't find this out until assisted sent request for money. They received notice that I was out of funds and they still assigned McGee classes instead of contacting me to ask how I would pay for my classes. They left me in the dark and ** not give me an option to not take the course.
I feel like my student advisor and financial aid department should have given new notice about my funds. Note, they say I owe for two classes I never would have been able to pay for in the beginning. That's why there was financial aid. Upon further review I mass then aware that they cannot show for $1600 worth of funds given to them from student loans.
They have stolen money and tricked me. Now they are threatening me. I agree I took the course but if they find the $1600 then I would only owe $400. I will contact aes to retrieve the amounts given to the school and have an investigation.

It is suggested that recent (2013/2014) faculty layoffs have had a devastatingly disproportionate impact on adjunct online senior citizen faculty and minority faculty members at Ashford University. In other words, older faculty and minorities are being let go in greater proportions than reflect their national population numbers. If so, this is discriminatory. Does anyone have hard direct evidence of this they would be willing to share relating to this issue?

The counselors were nice as they need to be in order to sell you on the idea. However, the classes mainly just required peer review of personal essays and most of my "classmates" had very little to no grasp of written English. I quickly realized any degree acquired alongside these fellows would be virtually worthless. The whole class read like a series of badly worded and poorly spelled Facebook or Twitter threads. I have student loans to pay back plus Ashford wants $3000 for the class and a half that I participated in. Purely a waste of money.

I attempted to take online classes with the University about five Years ago. I never received any money for the class. As a matter of fact the school kept telling me I need to pay for books that I never received. I never received a student loan, but now the government is garnishing my wages because of it. I make less than 800 every two weeks. They just took 200 from my pay... At this rate I'm going to be homeless. The school received the money. They should pay it back.

I enrolled into Ashford in 2010 and finished March 2014. I was so disappointed about the hide fees and the cost kept going up every year. They make you take classes that I didn't need. My level of disappointed was so great. After talking with my counselor the financed Aid office they did not help at all. I had to pay for credit that I already had from another school. That really make me upset. I failed one class that I did not need but had to take the class anyway. I was awarded my PELL Grant money from the government. The Financial Aid will keep that money and make you pay for the class out of pocket that you failed. Even if you pay for those failed classes out of pocket they will still keep grant money. This instructor still has yet to respond to any emails and because of this my classmates have to rely on each other for help. While re-enrolling at Ashford University I was not informed of the overlapping loan, so they say. If I would have waited two more weeks I would have received the full amount of grants and loans even though the school was able to receive their full tuition and fees off my grants and loans then again once the new semesters kicked in. Ironically this was the same calendar year and same financial aid, I just took a 6 mth break. The award letter stated differently until I made a fuss. I also noticed that a stipends were supposed to be disbursed to me that I have not received yet. The only reason I found out is because I carefully combed through my finance detail transactions and realized I never received those funds or was contacted about them even if they were returned back to Ashford University. Now I understand the 20 percent graduation rate.
My experience with the Instructors were great. I really learned some life changing knowledge and enjoyed the online experience. They just need more than a two week break just in December/January and the finance department is suspect. No one contacts you within the 24/48 hours with authentic information and the information within the same department is conflicting. Ashford keeps telling me to contact Sallie Mae and the loan departments when they have been paid and the stipends are issued from the Finance Department of Ashford University.
I am disappointed and fed-up with Ashford University at this point. They need to be audited by the Department of Education, maybe they can get to the bottom of what is really going on. It is a shame and disgrace to be unjust to people whether Veterans, (single) parents, and patrons trying to better themselves and careers. I have no choice but to remove them from my education source on social media to avoid others from this unfortunate dilemma.

Their Financial Aid Department is a PoS. They BS everything, and give the run around when you have legit concerns and questions. I have tried to contact my previous Financial Advisor a few times via email in the past, but have yet to receive any emails back from her. I've called the "University", and they kept transferring me around, until I finally was able to talk with a very rude man. He was absolutely zero help. Pretty much refused to assist me. Because of the time that has gone by due to their BS, what I "owe" (according to them) them, has gone off to collections.
In the beginning, I was told that they've been sending me mail and emails about what I "owe" them, which is completely false. I have yet to come across one of these alleged notifications. What I "owe" them, is a screw up on their part, not mine. They chose to send me my grant money, and instead used money out of their own pocket. I was none the wiser. I will admit that by not catching that mistake at first, is my fault. But, at the same time, it shouldn't be my fault. It was their screw up, not mine, why should I be penalized for their mistakes that they refuse to acknowledge. So, because of this, they're withholding my school records, causing me to be unable to attend any other school in the future. Which seriously screws up my future.
Wanna know why I stopped attending? Because I found out that they were under investigation for sitting on millions dollars from students financial aid. Can we say ILLEGAL and RED FLAG! Whether it was 100% true or not, I didn't want to take a chance. I thought it was a smart idea to leave Ashford, and try to attend another school. Which by the way, failed miserably. I was unable to continue onto my second semester at another University, because Ashford refused to release me records. Thanks Ashford, you're the best!!! *Sarcasm*

I started Ashford in Jan. of 2012 and was happy at first. Everything seems pretty fair and I was told when I signed up all these wonderful things about Ashford and their affordability. Here is where things go wrong: On several occasions my stipends did not arrive as they was suppose to. According to the financial aid site at the time had said the Ashford would have the funds to you within thirty days. One particular time this happened I was having an emergency and needed to move...thankfully the landlord was generous, I did not get my funds until two months after my promised disbursement date. Even after talking to several people including finance and my adviser whom all assured me, "Just another two weeks." Then it was, "Oh well, when we make an inquiry, the disbursement is held further for investigation."
I recently had to withdraw after trying to leave to resolve a medical crisis. When I had left Ashford I had only taken one class of the four scheduled (which I did fail). Before I had left all my classes had been paid for by my student loans and grants...which means upon leaving I should have only had to pay for the failed class. I reentered Jan 6, 2015 -- my balance reads $6,***.**. So I called and emailed. Finally today I got a call back from someone (female) and she tells me the balance is correct because they returned $5,***.** to the lender for me.
Now here is the crazy part. Although my tuition was only $3K which included my books, fees, etc., they sent over $5K back to the lender. Now by my calculations they shouldn't have because I did not take the classes nor did I ever start them. Commonsense then -- I should have only owed Ashford $750 for the failed class. But no, Ashford charged me for the returned funds (um...they're not your funds because you cannot make someone pay for classes never taken). On top of that they also have my account charged for five classes for this semester (the normal four and the failed).
When I pointed this out to the lady she says, "No, we sent back money that you received through your stipend." What??? Now lets say this is true that I am repaying the unearned portion of my stipend (will address why that makes no sense later), that would mean that Ashford still has my tuition and fees for the classes I did not take as well as the failed class! Now the lady goes on to explain that "No, they sent the funds back." Being that you sent the funds back, what does that have to do with my excess funds? My excess funds are beyond Ashford's tuition and fees.
Now moving to the next thing, she tell me that Ashford has requested the funds to be sent again and that will cover my classes. We did the math -- the lender is sending back $5,***.**, my balance is 6,***.**. Now she says, when the funds are processed I will only owe $998.**. So I asked her why it's beyond the $750. She then tells me it's because they had to send back the $300 grant I received as well. If my tuition is only $3750 (tuition for new classes and the failed class) and you are getting $5,***.** back from the lender, why can you not just take the $300 from there?
Now what is also disturbing is Ashford makes you pay for failed classes but they are paid by your financial aid for the class and that aid is not returned to the lender for a failed class. Each semester you are given the same amount of funds and classes. So technically when you fail a class it does not change your next course load so when you get funding again the classes are paid for by your financial aid.
Think about it. If I am in Semester five and I have four courses and all are paid for through my financial aid. I fail one course or however many. Then in semester six I am of course going to have to take the failed class over. But I am not then given five classes for the semester -- I am still given a total of four to include the failed class. Now when my financial aid comes in, it pays for all the courses again! So my financial aid has now paid Ashford for the failed course and the retake. Yet Ashford also has charged me personally for the failed course as well!
While not all colleges are the same and community colleges are different than universities I cannot see how if you fail a course at any other college you do not have to pay for the course unless you are not granted financial aid again to retake the course but Ashford makes you and your financial aid pay for it. I have talked to other students at other colleges. This is not normal practice to collect double tuition for one class.
Beyond that, stipends come when they want. The admissions will coddle you and make it seem like their college degrees leads to gainful employment and transfers should you choose to further your education somewhere else. No one returns calls. No one is ever in their office. Your advisers change like a flowing river and the new adviser is clueless most of the time. We are in session and yet the people you need to communicate with are on vacation so if you are having a problem they cannot get to you before a class is failed. Since you cannot go and manually drop a class or even take a leave, students are receiving failing grades because no one is there to stop things before there is a problem.

This department wanted my father's personal information and social security number for such application of a student loan. I informed the department that: 1. I was 39 years of age at the time with children of my own and my father was not financially responsible. 2. That due to a business loss, being that I was homeless and unemployed that I would not qualify 3. I do not wish to seek a loan.
My classes started in January of 2010 and by March I was experiencing nothing but technical problems regarding assignments and quizzes. (EX. Currently, this year 2015 I have emotionally, financially and time been victimized by the university's wrongdoing. I had a federal tax refund in 2012 stolen and the reply was for a student loan. When the US Department of Education requested paperwork from Ashford on my account for alleged student loan, Ashford University had nothing. This University has been in the federal court system for such situation as I have experienced and was looking at the chance of losing the ability to issue pell grants to prospective students.
(2011) To this date I am still experiencing the wrong doing for the university has placed a large sum into collection companies who in hand keep selling out and no legitimate documentation of any student loan filed in my name. NCO Financial LLC sent myself a single page document which in hand the company stated came from Ashford University suppose to be a federal Stafford loan. They are charging you way too much money for classes that do not even pertain to the degree in which you are studying for. I did not even know that they were not accredited when I first started with them. I did not find that out until a few months later. The really messed up part about all of this is that I grilled my admissions counselor like she was undergoing a police interview. There were many things that she either failed to mention or just outright lied about. Since I have been attending, I have only had 3-4 teachers out of the 9 that actually have tried to give me any help.
If you plan on contacting any of your counselors then you would have a better chance at meeting the man on the moon. I have had to call the main school campus numerous times in order to get the assistance that I may have needed. I read a couple of these reviews and the thing about them is that they are on the money. I read one of the mostly positive reviews from a fellow student. He starts off by criticizing others that have spoken freely about Ashford but in the end he is saying the same things. All I'm saying is tell the truth. I had to take classes over again several times because of issues that they said were my grades, I disagreed and even launched a complaint with my academic adviser on several occasions for unfair grading, etc.
Also I was promised to be enrolled in a military spouse program where I was suppose to receive discounts and even some tuition paid through the MYCCA and after my second year, I realized I was not getting this tuition assistance. When I inquired about why I was not enrolled in this program like I was promised, they simply said my case was mishandled and that it was not too late because my husband had advanced in rank so I was now no longer qualified for the program. That was nearly two years I could have had a lot of my tuition paid for, but instead I had to take out student loans which I cannot pay for, my student loan debt is upward of $50,000 from them.
My total student loan debt is much more because of parent plus loans for my daughter, but had Ashford University taken care of things and not done what they did, I wouldn't have had much student loan debt from attending their school. I came across an article recently about the class action lawsuit against them, and was curious why I was not notified. I advised her that I was in the process of trying to clean up some of the files and other problems I was having and that I was still having some issues. The call sent up some red flags, so I decided to check on the school a little further. I can't say that I am very impressed. It all sounded really good in the beginning, we haven't as yet got down to any of the specifics relating to the financial end of the enrollment agreement, although the financial aids packet had been mentioned as well as the repayment of all previous student loans.
When a little bird chirps in my ear it is usually trying to tell me something isn't quite right. That is when I decided to check into what Ashford was really about. The statement that I am responding to indicates that Ashford was not accredited, let me correct this, Ashford did in fact receive it's accreditation in June of 2014, that in issue will not be the lone factor on which I base my decision for enrollment.
The more I find out about Ashford, the less I am inclined to proceed with enrollment. The greatest difficulty I seem to be having so far in the process is not so much the complaints I have read, although I can say they are a contributing factor, but being tracked by them on line, intended or not. If this is happening before I even get started, what is to be expected after enrollment.............On top of all this other stuff, don't need the drama.

However after the first two years, my stipends changed and I was not getting them like I was supposed to be but the school said it was normal it just didn't seem to add up. I did not question it anymore. I then started having Financial issues, health issues and a very sick grandmother that passed away. I was in classes and was failing, but I had been carrying a 3.0 or better GPA. I spoke to my adviser, said "I want to get out of this class because it just isn't working out", it was too late to drop out, so therefore I carried through and failed.
I started the next class and was in a severe deep depression and spoke to the advisors about it again but was told to try and I failed. Within a course of 8 weeks, I was in three courses and was failing them all. They put me on hold. At that time told me I would have to pay 5700.00 to get back into school and retake the classes. Even though I was open honest and asking for help, they said because I tried in the class, that they would not accept my request. I took time off and was wanting to return. I got together 700.00 (I was told if it was under 5000.00 I could return) for a down payment to return back to the school but when I did and called to make arrangements to return, I was told it would have to be approved. I was in agreement to repay on a payment plan and give this lump sum of money.
I waited three days then called and the adviser said that they didn't trust I would do better so I would need to make payments for a few months then they would think about me coming back. Three years into it, 40,000.00 in debt, no degree and I am trying to return. I am going because I am in Financial difficulty and need a better job, plus a single mom, I want to finish and I only have 10 courses to finish.

It always amazes me to see how many terrible reviews there are regarding Ashford. To be honest, many of the issues seem to be laziness or simply unrealistic service expectations from students who want an easy degree. My experience at Ashford has been mostly positive. Some classes are fairly easy, while some classes are difficult - understandably so. There are generally high requirements and standards of work, although there is the occasional "easy" instructor. Overall, I have learned a lot over my 2 years at the school.
While there is the occasional lousy instructor (like any other school), the majority of my instructors have been very knowledgeable and accomplished in their respective field. I believe that a doctorate is required, and it definitely shows. I can only think of one instructor that I've had issues with having questions answered. I complained about that instructor and had the issue very quickly resolved. The tuition is high (about $1,200 per 3 unit class) but if anyone is willing to show me a university that is cheap, let me know and I'll sign up. I have read complaints about the admission staff treating you like a consumer rather than a student. To that I say, "Welcome to the modern college system."
There have been many complaints about instructors "sabotaging" their grades. While I do not know every particular situation, I will say that most instructors are graded on the amount of students that they are able to help pass a class. Take that for what you will.
There have also been many complaints regarding the counselors. I 100% agree with that sentiment (my reason for 4 stars instead of 5). In 2 years I have had 7 counselors, 1 of which actually helped me. She was my counselor for 1 month and complained about her supervisor’s policies to me. My guess is that was why she was replaced or left. Other than that counselor, I have had to catch many different errors in my financial aid and tell the appropriate person how to fix it (normally after 2-3 emails or calls) and continually have to request documents to be sent to me when deadlines are approaching, rather than having the counselor actually be on top of it enough to send it to me in a decent amount of time. Luckily, I am very up on the paperwork/requirements and have been able to stay on top of it. I can see how someone who isn't used to it could get pretty screwed up.
That being said, I have been to 3 colleges (community college for my A.S. and another University for a certification program) and I have ALWAYS had terrible counselors. I'm beginning to think that there are no job qualification requirements or incentive to do a decent job.

I started classes at Ashford in October 2011 to obtain a degree in Organizational Management. I had a little trouble getting my stipend check because the admissions counselor entered in the wrong address for me. It was like an act of congress to finally figure that out with all the phone calls and emails. I continued classes until March of 2013, when I was taking Algebra. I was having a hard time and could not get any help from my instructor. After 2 weeks of emailing and calling my advisor, I told her what happened and she said it was fine to drop the class. It is now November 2014, and I decided to give school a go, but I found my transcript to be frozen. Once I called the school they were so excited about my return, but said I failed a class and it was in collections. I received no emails, letters, or phone calls regarding this.
I am a single mom and owe the student loans of nearly $18000. I let them know the class had already been paid for and they gave me the collection agency contact information. They say I owe $1200 for one Algebra class that I couldn't get any help with. The instructor repeatedly ignored my requests as did my advisor. I would like to know just what exactly I'm paying this $1200 for. I disputed the charges and requested an itemization of charges. I would be willing to take part in any class action suit. The amount they charge for classes is unreal, and they pass you even if you can't punctuate or spell. I want ALL my money back so I can get the degree I deserve and should already have. Feel free to email me regarding this issue.

First off I had a good experience in the beginning. All fin aid docs were done and maintained way above the required GPA. Took my classes and received a stipend. Fast forward towards the end of the year, waiting on my stipend and nothing. Talked to my advisor, fin aid dept, asked where my stipend was. They responded, "oh you only requested enough for the classes". I responded, "well if I did that, why did I receive a stipend last quarter?" They claim it was their mistake. Had to jump through hoops and still awaiting a stipend 2 months later! Two classes left and nothing! Still waiting..... will transfer out ASAP.

I enrolled in Ashford University online classes 2013. First let me say I was stupid to enroll in a school where they did not even want to see my high school diploma. Second I did not get to pick my own classes. The enrollment counselor did everything on the phone through email. At the end of the term two of my final projects were sabotaged, after letting them know I was leaving for an instate school. One was supposedly never received and the other claimed I plagiarized but would not have a hearing no matter how much I insisted.
Before the course ended I was billed for the same classes to be taken over, and additional classes were added to my transcript. The whole enrollment was full of scam I was set up to fail so that I could repay for the same classes. Also my transfer credits were never applied. These classes were some that I retook in Ashford's, they were B+ grades. I was dismissed after letting them know.

She basically set me up for failure and when I tried to get out of having to pay for a loan in which I was never able to successfully attend class due to the negligence of the university and their staff they were reluctant to do so and sent it to collections and now it is on my record and I can not attend any university because of this.

I have spent some time reading reviews and I'm confused. I currently attend Ashford and am almost done with my BA in Information Technology while heading to my Masters in Business. I am actually petitioning for fast track entrance and the 5000 scholarship for entrepreneurial excellence. I work for the USPS and receive great discounts through their alliance and alumni grants because I completed the AA first. I am a bit shocked at the reviews mostly stating financial issues and collections. I have never had an issue with any of my financial aid, stipends, tuition reimbursement, etc. I did complain about a couple courses being cake walk, but those were gen ed courses (which usually are cake walk).
I have taken advantage of the curriculum provided and the texts in the ebrary and other sources we have access to. I graduated from the international baccalaureate program in high school and had college level courses completed before attending my first year of college on campus and transferring to online a few years after a break. I was having financial issues, but contacting Ashford was one of the best decisions I have ever made in life. I did a 25-page dissertation in my senior year of high school, so outlines and 5-page papers are a cinch. I usually have to cut material to fit in the page count guidelines of most courses.
I am very meticulous about my coursework and expect my texts to be as updated as its price. My only gripe is I wish instructors did a lecture during the week to infuse the on-campus feel with the online community. I feel as if we get inundated with writing and never truly get to hear explanations. I just am shocked with all of the reviews because my experience has been more than wonderful even after this dreaded switch over of financial aid processing companies. I guess I'm the lucky duckling and I'm praying my Masters will be just as great if I decide to do it online.
Some of the reviews, to me, project issues in that require a bit more scrutiny from the student. You can not believe everything you hear. I crossed my T's and dotted all my I's before I committed to anything. Plus, I let my advisors know I'm familiar with the process so I wouldn't be easy to get over on. Quitting your job thinking you will receive 10gs isn't Masters' level brain quality in the first place. No offense, but that wreaks of false allegations or of a low income mentality. I always wish everyone the best in their endeavors and I hope Ashford reads these comments. If they are true I would be ashamed and angry for all of those students.

I've been a Student with Ashford University for almost 6 months. In my final week of final exams just before the beginning of the 6th month I had 2 holds placed on my account, future schedule of other classes deleted, and told I owed an over $3,000 bill which should of been paid through my tuition plan. The finance department did not contact my tuition plan and decided to tell me at this last minute I needed to do it and/or else could not continue into my next class starting Monday which is exactly 3 days from now. Imagine how stressed I must be feeling knowing that not only I want to pass my final exams in my final week but within 3 days if the University fails to contact my tuition plan I will not be taking my next scheduled course. On top of this, it screws up the schedule of my GI Bill with taking my future classes. I'm very upset and appalled about how I'm being treated by this University. After almost 6 months it's ridiculous. I have a tuition plan that covers all costs yet the university claims that I must pay out of pocket? Doesn't make sense.

I am currently taking PHI 208, Ethics and Moral Reasoning and am in week four of the class. Our instructor has been very unresponsive, does not answer emails, ask your instructor forum questions o, and gives a grade to an assignment with no explanations as to areas that need improvement. In other words, the students are basically teaching themselves. I want to add that I am in my third year at Ashford University and am carrying a 4.0 GPA, so I am in no ways a slacker.
I brought this matter up to my academic advisor and she suggested that I complete an instructor issue form. I have submitted two instructor issues forms and the last response I got from my academic advisor was...." I did speak with (name withheld) today and she assured me that she and the manager are monitoring the classroom. It appears at this point that the instructor is meeting the guidelines for the class by addressing questions and posting assignments. It seems to me that this instructor might be doing what is required but perhaps just not providing as much feedback as you are used to and would like to have. Although it can be frustrating for you, she is currently meeting the standard requirements for the classroom. You can continue to reach out to her for additional feedback and let her know again that you are seeking to refine your own skills and performance in the class."
It sounds like I have received the party line and the school is not going to make the instructor provide quality instruction (which she is getting paid to provide) to her students. Sadly, the class deals with ethics and moral reasoning, and I do not see deontology in action from the university. Doesn't the University have an obligation and duty to provide students with a quality education? Before enrolling in Ashford University, I would recommend that you ask an academic advisor what actions a student can take when they are having issues with an instructor. Hopefully, you don't get the same treatment that I am getting. Very Disappointed and Frustrated.

I have recently contacted a Brian ** about my balance owed and this man refuses to give me an updated balance of what I owe. This Brian ** has tried to send my account to a collection agency and refuses to tell me why he would send my account to a collection agency when I have continued to pay my balance owed. I have never refused to pay. I have always paid Ashford University and they have always accepted my payments and since I am so close to paying it off I wanted get a final balance.
When I sign into the student portal they added a new feature where I was able to see my balance and two days after I called the 800 number listed for questions and concerns they have since removed the balance I originally saw. I email Brian ** and he now refuses to confirm the balance I saw so I can know how much is left.
I am very disappointed in how I have been treated by some of the staff at AU. This is not my only complaint against the staff. Overall, I have been very happy with my experience at Ashford University. The school was recommend to me by another student who had recently graduated. The admission counselor was very helpful and called me at least once a week for the first few months. I have not had a problem with financial aid, although my daughter did have some difficulty when she first enrolled. I did almost drop out the first year, because I did not feel the classes were challenging. However, that seemed to change after they had their issues with accreditation. I did have a problem with being dropped from a class after the 2nd week, but that seemed to be due to a miscommunication between me and my advisor. I was not charged for the class and I was able to restart it.
I am in my 3rd year now, and have had no major troubles with the university. I was having problems with one advisor returning my calls, but one day out of the blue, I had a new advisor calling to explain that my previous advisor was no longer with the university. He not only helped me resolve issues I was having at the time, he followed up with me to make sure everything was still going smoothly.

I told them that these are common phrases used in this very common business document. They did grade the paper but did not tell me the grade. They simply gave me a zero for the class and signed me up for it again. I asked for the process to dispute the grade and it was sent to me with a note that I would be guaranteed the same outcome and it would take 8 weeks to process. Why are they signing me up for this class to begin in 3 weeks if my grievance will take 8? They charged me full tuition and of course I have to pay for the book rental again. I only have two more classes and I am considering a transfer.

I went to Ashford from March 2011 to Dec 2011. At the time, I was really upset because the school was not enforcing their plagiarism policies. I had the same student copy my posts word for word in 3 different classes (she was in all 3 with me). I reported her multiple times and nothing was ever done.
I also felt like the courses relied too much on writing papers. I understand that in an online class this is the best way for an instructor to see how much you have learned, but really....a 2-3 page paper in week 2, a 1-2 page outline in week 3, a 4-6 page rough draft in week 4 and a 8-10 page paper in week 5 is really excessive. And this was in EVERY CLASS. And the grading seemed to really focus on APA formatting more than the content of the actual papers. I don't think I ever received any comments about the actual work ever.
I was not the only one who was nearly always frustrated with the inability of a lot of the students to use proper grammar, spelling, punctuation in their writing. I cannot tell you how many times I read posts that looked like they were written by my 5 year old. There were no entrance tests, no remedial classes, no tutors. Nothing. So I began to feel like my 3.9 gpa didn't mean much when these same students were boasting about their 3.4 and 3.5 gpas. So I left with my 24 credits and never looked back.
As time went on, I was not overly surprised to read about Ashford's accreditation issues. All of the complaints about them were 100% accurate. I was not expecting them to maintain their HLC accreditation as well as gain WASC accreditation. I knew if they had pulled that off, they must have really overhauled a lot of things.
My husband is now in his 5th class at Ashford. He is working on his AA in Early Childhood Education. He and I have been pleasantly surprised with the communication he has had with his teachers and advisers. He has not had any financial aid issues (neither did I when I went there) and he really enjoys the 5 week classes. They are still overly writing heavy and they are still focused more on APA than the actual content of the papers and he does feel the courses are not as rigorous as he had hoped, but all in all he's farley happy with his choice.
He and I read over everything and did our research before he chose Ashford. We knew that our state would allow him to be a teacher's assistant with the AA degree, and we also knew that (per our state DoE) there is a 1 yr internship program available for students who received their bachelor's degree from a school with no student teaching. SO he is seriously considering getting the BA in Early Childhood Education from Ashford when he is finished with the AA. He'd like to have some classroom experience while he works on the BA and then go into the internship for a year and then sit for the certification to become a kindergarten teacher. We knew going in what our state will and will not allow and we read the fine print at the bottom of the web page on the Ashford site that said none of the degrees will lead to licensure. So he went into it with his eyes open.
I say that, while my experience was seriously lacking, my husband's seems to be satisfactory. Hence the 3 stars instead of 1.

I have attended Ashford for my Bachelor's and Master's degree. Overall, I'm okay, I suppose, with my experience. If I had to do it over again, I probably would've gone with a different school for my Master's degree in Education. The main issue is the non-certification at the end of the program like most universities offer. I was able to land two jobs, however, using my degrees from Ashford (one as an education aide and another as a Quality Analyst with program trainer responsibilities) so I'm not too upset with the results. My biggest problem - have to backtrack and attend to an alternative teacher preparation program just to obtain teacher certification. This is going to cost me another 3-4 thousand dollars. Had I known it would be this difficult, I would've gone with another school like University of Southern California who also offers a better Education degree program. Not advertising for them but darn, I missed the boat on that one. Oh well, you live and learn.
For a Bachelor's degree, it wasn't too bad. Truthfully and you can take my word to the bank because I completed two degrees through this school (primarily because I'm a working adult and don't have time to attend traditional classes) the curriculum is not that strong and you may not be properly prepared for your job by attending this school. You are better off going to another school if you can. I would recommend taking your time and attending traditional classes if possible. If you are like me and have kids, a jobs, etc. then attend online school but pick one that is suited for your degree field and a state college or university - please! You will respect yourself and others will respect your degree more for doing so. Many state colleges offer online classes too. If you are already established in your field of work through experience, i.e., HR, business etc., then this might be an okay option for you to take because you just need a degree to establish you in your field. Again, I want to strongly suggest you look at your options carefully. Stay out of student loan debt as much as possible. THAT MEANS UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES KEEP THOSE STIPENDS!!!! And pick a topnotch school.
If you're going to pay that much money on education, you might as well actually receive a quality education and self respect in the process. I'm glad I have two degrees but I don't always respect myself because I know the school I got them from was Ashford and not really respected college or university. Being a first generation college graduate though I'm still proud of that. I'd do it differently if I could do all over again. Good luck and I hope this post has helped you!

Ouch! I wanted to go back for my Master's degree. Ashford informed me that I would be compensated through "Financial Aid" and would receive a ten thousand dollar "stipend" after the first 8 weeks of classes. This young lady also recommended I quit my job in order to get the most out of Financial Aid. I am obviously naive because I believed that. I also thought that the curriculum would be strenuous and since I was in a dead-end job, I thought it was a better idea. I am ever sorry.
Come to find out, Master's students DO NOT GET "FINANCIAL AID"! They get loans. Also, come to find out, Ashford is now keeping all but 4,800 of the loans that I get to pay back. I applied for food stamps because I was getting hungry because I quit my job because I was COUNSELED to do so. Got them. Time to re-apply and Ashford is nowhere to be found. I needed someone to fill out paperwork before my food stamps were discontinued. Financial Aid won't call me back. My adviser won't get back with me. It seems as if after the 3 week of classes, I am now non-existent.
Hope you're happy with all the money you got out of the government which I am now responsible for paying back. Great. Thanks Ashford! I am 50 years old. I really don't know where to start with my complaints as I am extremely upset. Anxiety and can't sleep through the night! When I first started with Ashford, they were nothing but nice and always returned my phone calls a.s.a.p. The first problem I had was that my advisor lied to me and said that getting my B.A. in Early Childhood Education would lead to a teacher certification. Wow - I guess I am dumb because I believed them! O.k. so I got over it and thought, well I have way too many classes invested in them so I will finish and make the best of it.
The second issue I'm dealing with is they locked me out of classes and I was told they were waiting on fafsa pmts and I can attend again in 3 months. I thought o.k. sounds legit to me (like how am I suppose to know what's right or wrong - I'm too trusting). So tonight I printed up all my classes and all my fafsa payments. So in comparing all the classes to the pmts I realize on several classes there is duplicates of billing me for the same class! Seriously one class is billed 3 times! No wonder I am looking like I owe them.
Right now (and I'm not finished) I have them owing me over 5000.00 dollars and yes they have kept my stipend pmts! You have no idea how I could have used those pmts as my computer stopped working and I went and bought a new one and put in on a high-interest credit card just so I could continue my online classes. I am going to contact a good attorney. I let the first issue go but now it's payback time!! Ashford University should be ashamed of themselves

When contacting about their teacher education, I spoke to one adviser and he told me that with their program I would become a teacher and it would take only one year depending on my transcript. So I asked if there is student teaching at the end and was told I would be a teacher in a year. Once they got my transcript it took them over three months to fully go over them. Then was told it would take less then a year 9 months. In this time frame I was assigned another adviser. Oh the first one was very hard to contact. And the second adviser was the same thing. Both said I would not have a problem becoming a teacher. The next adviser Elliott talked circles around me too. I also had problems with financial aid too, was told it was one thing and then it was another amount.
Anyway, when I got to asking more questions and asked when do we start taking the praxis test and when do we start talking about student teaching I was passed to 5 people. It took a week to finally get somewhat of a answer. This was from the career office and was told that I would have to find a school after I finished at Ashford to do the student teaching, "we don't offer it." I said "but I was told you did!!" He said "the school we use to use stop let us use it a few months ago." I asked why wasn't student told this. He stated "oh they tell you before you start." They never told me or the other students in the program.
Once I found out I told Elliott I will no longer be a student at the school. I was lied to and I want a refund. I called around to different universities and I was told I would have to start over again and Ashford classes I cannot use at all. I lodged a complaint with the university. And was told I would be contacted in thirty days and it never happened. Called them and got no answer. Now they are trying to get money from me. They called me after 5 months of leaving and Threaten me I better pay more money to them. That same day they sent a email saying your second notice. Three months later final notice and saying I better pay in ten days. I didn't receive the education I was promised, was lied to. And got the runaround about everything. This was and is a major ripoff.

My professor told me to redo it and I could receive 5/10 of the credit and I did that and then he told me I would be reported for plagiarism - the same thing happened with my other class but I passed. I still have all my work. Why and what would make the classes different that I would have to take them over when the material was the same? Then they say some classes were since dropped they don't have it anymore. I cannot go to the school to finish. They are holding my transcript and got me owing them 2000 forcing me to start over. My experience was very different.
I have never failed a class until Ashford University. The instructor changed final assignment requirements at the last minute and did not respond to emails when an issue was brought to their attention. Being an online campus, there has to be some kind of allowance for computer issues. First the assignment was required to be submitted to an OPTIONAL plagiarism site. I had an issue the night the assignment was due and for whatever reason it did not submit. Emailed the instructor the next day and she ignored me. I was finally able to get the assignment submitted but I did not run it through Turn it in and I was given a zero on the assignment. I emailed the instructor again letting her know that did submit the assignment but I was not able to submit it through turn it in. She never responded. I filed a grade appeal with the school in which they said the instructor did nothing wrong. I filed a grievance with the next level of dispute resolution which was ignored entirely. I enrolled in 2013 and had a fair number of credits transferred from UC Irvine, but mostly as electives. Some prior courses did not meet the time frame (too long ago) or content to meet requirements of current general education courses. Online classes in this curriculum are more demanding due to the need to self teach (there are not a whole lot of live resources available to timely get help in time to complete assignments), and the fact that the classes are condensed to meet semester requirements means you are completing a 16-20 week course in five weeks. This is a great deal tougher for the average student coming in, and to do well you have to be very motivated and self disciplined.
I have completed all but two of my classes with A or A- grades, and I have spent as much or more time in completing the assignments as I did at UC Irvine. The two classes I received lower grades on were during periods I was not able to spend the necessary amount of time needed to earn the higher grades.
If you are not motivated and are just looking for easy classes, then this is not the way to earn a degree. If you are able to devote the time required, you will learn as much or more than in a ground based campus. If you need live support, you may not do well in an online environment, and should not enroll. But this is the case not only at Ashford, but at any distance learning school. I have not encountered any of the problems mentioned in most of these posts, nor has my sister-in law or any other people I have personally talked with that have attended Ashford.

I was attending Ashford for approximately six months during which I learned nothing that I couldn't have found out by reading a newspaper or watching a YouTube video. Contacting my student adviser would become a week long chore for an issue that should have been settled in 5 minutes. Contacting the teaching staff when you had a question was a moot point as they either never responded or responded after the assignment the question pertaining to was already turned in. I routinely received emails threatening to kick me out for being absentee when I was active in the course and all too often had been in the classroom hours before turning work in.
They raised the cost of classes almost immediately after I enrolled. I constantly received notifications of accreditation often from the same educational board over and over. Which after doing research they are only accredited on the west coast. As I do not live on the west coast and have no inclination to move to it, the degree would have been useless. I was acutely aware of their requirement to maintain a C average to maintain my status as a student. In fact I was 2/3rds into a weighted course, where the final exam was 30+% of the grade and struggling with it, and suddenly, on Thanksgiving morning, I received an email stating I was no longer enrolled.
I filed for appeal immediately, and was told it would take eight weeks to hear from anyone. Monday after Thanksgiving, I got a call from the school's collection agent who in spite of my pointing out verbatim that the loan gave a six-month reprieve demanded I pay them some $3600 immediately. I had been laid off in the interim and was living on unemployment. I informed him of that and I had filed for appeal but he was indifferent and continued to attempt to shake me down. Ten weeks passed, the only person calling my phone was their collections office and I as per my appeal letter I sought to continue my education elsewhere. I called to get my transcript transferred over and was told it was on hold till I paid back every cent. Forcing me to forgo all the credits I earned so that I could pursue my degree elsewhere.
The six months lapsed and I received an email stating that my phone number was invalid, which was odd as I was reading this email on the very phone with the same number as the one I registered. Naturally, I sent them a strongly worded email explaining that I was attending school elsewhere and would discuss a payment plan as soon as I found steady work. I have yet to find steady work and yet still get harassing phone calls from the same collector who keeps demanding all the money up front. Then I get form letters from the school insisting that I return to my studies as if my being kicked out was voluntary! Now I'm getting harassed that they can interfere with my current funding at the new school where I have a 3.4 GPA. These guys are unprofessional to the core. They don't teach you anything. They don't challenge you intellectually, and their degree isn't worth the paper it's printed on. But God help you if you owe them a single red cent because they will harass you constantly. If I could afford a lawyer I would sue them for harassment and breach of contract in a heartbeat!

They tell me a new story every time I call to see why my funds haven't made it to my account. This school isn't for anyone. They are complete scams. They will keep you from continuing your education. If you decide to leave, they will hold your transcripts hostage.

Somehow there was an identity management hold placed on my account and I was put on administrative hold. I was half-way through my class and was doing well, but all that effort was for nothing. Removing an identity hold is not an easy process for me. I am now attending a different university and preparing to graduate, only Ashford will not release my transcripts because of the identity hold. I suppose it is an issue with financial aid, but I wasn't even receiving financial aid at Ashford. They just up and put on the hold and now I might just have to retake my Ashford classes at my new school so I can graduate. I would NOT recommend Ashford to anyone, not even an enemy.

At the time I was unemployed and needed financial aid which was told I should have no problems with getting financial assistance. In filling out an application for a home loan I find out it is on my bureau me owing Ashford University over $2000… for one class that I could not complete. I didn't receive any thing to owe this money. Now I have to dispute this with the bureau. This caused my credit score to drop. I am so disgusted...

I started at Ashford in early April, after constant calls from Ashford and other schools after looking at degree programs online. Ashford's psych program was rated above the other schools I considered, so I went that way. Big mistake. One I'll be dealing with shortly. I've been pressured to start ASAP, then delayed, then they couldn't manage to get my FAFSA paperwork figured out, then they couldn't get my transcripts (my previous schools had accomplished both with no issue), which has meant that my financial aid was delayed. (I'm on a very tight disability stipend, I can't afford my books without FinAid.) And the classes? Absolutely average compared to other online courses I've taken... largely from community colleges. Not worth the money, and I'm terrified for anyone in a tight financial situation that depends on the competence of their administration.

Mainly living off the Post 911 GI Bill, my advisory stated I must maintain a C grade in the intro class or be dropped post week three, that would include no VA attendance letter. Week four and I have yet to receive my VA enrollment confirmation from this school. Upon contacting them, the random adviser told me I had to post a gradable assignment in week 4..... So which is it? Week three or week four ??? The staff does not communicate. You must complete an intro class before taking anything else... If you don't pass or you are dropped, you must retake before moving on. They pre-schedule your classes, all CORE classes which I believe they do on purpose to lock you into paying them. They will send you a bill 4 times a month, but won't submit your VA paperwork without harassing them
The ePub is clunky and rarely works for me as it is intended. Good luck getting a hold of summon in the VA rep. department.... Student adviser is generic, uninvolved, no personal touch, generic emails (Threats). POSITIVE note, my initial adviser Tom was amazingly helpful and empathetic. He still is to this day. There are many schools out there online, I would sadly recommend you choose another one instead of Ashford University. Also, they were on the border of losing their accreditation not very long ago.

I enrolled with them in 2012; they took 56 of my credits which I don't understand why they did not take them all - I was half way done. My loans were coming in left to right but all of a sudden no money. They cancelled loans, no more funds. No one ever answered me until I started calling to find out where my money was, "oh, you will get it in March." Well March came and gone no money. I called my advisor, he told me to call the 1-866 numbers and it says pending.
I called them, "you are at your limit." I flipped out. I never in my school days have I ever been short of money to go to school. I am supposed to graduate in July 2014. They froze my transcript and the person they connected to me told me to get a personal loan, or borrow from family or friends, dropout or give him $2,700.00 today. Okay, who has that type of money? Highly disappointed. Never had any problems until now. I filed a grievance against them but yet they tell me I have $138,000.00 for my graduate program.

Also their advisors do not listen to you and will continue to enroll you in classes and be geared to ensuring they get their money. I have insistently said I will not attend classes there unless I have Tuition Assistance to pay for it and my classes start on the same week or as close as possible.
They have enrolled me in Veteran Affairs (GI Bill/post911) without my consent to ensure they got their money and repeatedly have put me into classes without my consent and also months apart which makes me be considered not full time and is a waste of my military benefits. I continuously have issues and after two years they just notified me that they basically screwed me with payments for classes and I have had a bill for over 2,000 dollars which would be a lot greater if I did not constantly check and ensure I did not go to school without TA. As with every school I have attended there may be some obstacles, especially when it comes to money. Most of the reviews here seem to based around money instead of education. I have almost finished my second year here and am doing great. I myself have had no problems with money issues or my education. The professors are quite helpful and seem to really enjoy teaching their students. All of them have responded within 24 hours if I had a question or concern. My financial Aid hasn't missed a beat.
I would say that most of the posts on this site are angry that they haven't gotten either a transfer or a refund. Education is a business and businesses are hard to let go of customers. For those of you having problems with grades, this a college not high school. Asking for a grade change will not necessarily get it changed. There is a lot of work and the classes can be quite challenging. The goal of college is to get you to think critically, solve problems, and be an effective communicator. If you think grades are just going to be handed out like Halloween candy you might want to reconsider. If you are ready and willing to take initiative and set goals to achieve than your education here or any other college is waiting.
Truthfully, I am not one to say that this is the best school. I do not know that. But I know that you will get out of it what you put into it. Acting childish and complaining that teachers are unfair or staff is slow to respond only makes you look like you are not serious. Those of you who dropped out, that’s on you. My recommendation is to do your research before you decide.

I enrolled at Ashford a few years ago and had a great experience. The advisors were helpful. The students I met were great, and the instructors were good. This review may not be have correct grammar/spelling. I'm not worried about that right now as I'm not being graded, lol. Well, first off, they were very helpful in not just enrolling me, but went the extra mile to call or write me several times a week to keep in contact and make sure I was happy. My advisor encouraged me always. One thing I was not happy about was a new advisor who wasn't quite as helpful, but nothing to complain about really. Everyone has different personalities and hers was just a little more stuffy, lol. Not ever rude or mean though.
Well, I dropped out without notification when I had a miscarriage. I was going through a very hard personal time and never contacted them. I figured it would be hard to get back into the school after that, but finally decided to try anyway. Over a year after I left I spoke to yet another great advisor and got re-enrolled right away. First of all, I notice the only reviews "Yelp" recommends are the positive reviews. This public should see all of the reviews without navigating the maze of pages here to find them. I often stay away from reviews because all too often we see a timed emotion, which doesn't describe the entire experience from a student while at this institution. I have attended two online universities and lack just a few classes from obtaining my BA. You may find grammatical errors in this post, but it does not take away from the truth it covers about Ashford.
Let's start with the University of Phoenix, since that is where I came from with my Associates. The instructors and staff were a lot more in-tune with the student. My only complaint was group projects in the Bachelors level courses. This review isn't about UOP, so I won't go into detail, but the staff there seemed to care about the student, probably because classes were almost $2,000 apiece.
On to Ashford University: Jeffrey ** was my admissions counselor, and as always, he was fantastic. This is a common theme among admissions counselors because they are the bread and butter of the company. He stuck with me for the first three classes. I couldn't ask for anything better, so I was hooked.
I was moved to Chad ** after this and this is where it began. I required a receipt (Univ. of Phoenix offered this on their site as self-service) for each paid class for tuition reimbursement purposes through my employer. The system is set up to auto-email these, so they tell me, but it never worked correctly. When I requested any items from Chad, he would take in excess of 2 weeks to respond, or many times he would simply not respond at all. I started attaching delivery notifications to each email, so then I received the response that my emails were deleted without being read; therefore I never received a response. I asked Chad over and over to improve his response time, left voicemails with this information, and asked to speak to his supervisor. I never received any of the requested items. I requested a new counselor, so I was moved to Elana ** which would turn out to be worse than Chad.
I only had to contact Elana a handful of times during my 7-8 months with her, but ant hills turned into mountains when I requested anything. She was beyond rude, even telling me at one point that this is my education and my responsibility, not hers to deal with. She made me aware I was on her timeline, when I simply asked for her to follow-up with me before 4 days had passed with no response. She was beyond facetious and made no attempt to apologize or help me, the student. I asked for yet another counselor, and this was made clear in the beginning that she would respond to me when she could, which is usually 48-72 hours. Her name is Aimee **; in which business environment is it acceptable to write to the company in which you are a paying customer, with an issue, only to be put on hold for more than 3 days?
Overall, the university does not care about the students, does not work for you but against you, and is the biggest joke for a business that I have ever encountered. We get better service at Taco Bell! The counselors, after your admissions time frame ends, are rude, non-responsive, and their managers are no different. Sadly I am so close to finishing that I, like others, have trapped myself in their circle of chaos. Why switch now, only to do more paperwork, attend more entry classes, and risk my classes not transferring. I wish I would have done this different, but I will continue to swap counselors until they treat me like the customer I am, which is a high paying customer.

Ashford University will be glad to sign you on as a new student. Sign-up; it's easy! The seller over the telephone was kind and helpful, even informative. I used to have a co-worker from Apalachia; he would ask me, sometimes how much that I lack, a phrase from such an area of that culture, like Tennessee. I didn't get it, at first. In this current case of mine with Ashford University, that question is understood by, "What is lacking in communication from Ashford University to the student, to me?" This school will place up-to four courses on your schedule to begin, one course per month and the same thereafter; this assigns you to your first program if there will be further degrees.
Yes, I took one course per month more or less - give or take a few days - at a time. This qualified me as a full-time student. Thus I was granted U.S. Stafford Loans to pay for these applied debts. As quoted from a recent phone call to an Ashford University Student Services telephone agent, the first person to answer this call - "If you don't notify [Ashford University] by the end of your first-enrolled three-weeks' period to cancel or withdrawal from your current program, [then you are responsible for the entire 'technology fee' of the beginning]." The 'technology fee' applies to mean the right to utilize the Ashford University website for remote studies and attending classes thru that venue.
Ashford University is a business owned by Bridgepoint Education, Inc., a publicly traded company on The New York Stock Exchange (NYSE: BPI). The current President and CEO of this corporation - as of the posting date of this thread - is, Andrew Clark, whose earnings in 2009 were an astounding $20.5 million. This is a for-profit higher-learning institution. The university is based in Iowa, but the sales group is in California. It appears that from my research that the school has its accreditation thru the state of California, weird. As this is a business, they know legalities. And they will use you and abuse you; at least, that's how I've left this experience, unfortunately. How do cheaters win, those who make a living out of it?
To make my point: I ended my studies at Ashford after completing one course. I have some medical diagnoses that have hindered my ability to have stayed-on with those studies at Ashford. I made the school aware of this before and after the occurrence. I was informed that they provide assistance for those with such needs. Since I could nearly never reach an appropriate person live on the phone, I then decided to send an E-mail to the person who would help with the matter. He replied by giving his phone number and extension. Again, back to calling Ashford authoritative figures, "Please leave a message," nearly no matter what time of day or how many phone calls made in that one day or any week day that's a non-holiday.
Ultimately, there was a debt on my Ashford On-line account, which came before the intermediary loan agency handler's loan from the government for paying back my loans. I paid Ashford, directly. Then sometime later, I noticed that the intermediary agency loan handler for my government loans presented a debt for me. This was the 'technology fee;' it was just over one grand in U.S. dollars. The Contract. I'm not generally a self-deprecating person. However, either I'm stupid for missing something as important as a contract fee, or I should be consulting with the Iowa State Senator and an attorney. I'm at a loss. And someone else has profited from it. Their current slogan is, "Technology Changes Everything."

Thanks for the lessons how, Ashford! I've been through this story so very many times since I was supposed to graduate back in 2010. If you decide to pursue your education with Ashford anyway, PLEASE get absolutely everything in writing or record every conversation and hope such evidence will never be necessary. Also, remember to do ALL of their interdepartmental work for them. Even if they tell you they're going to do it, get the number and make sure it's done. Be far more thorough about their paperwork and promises than you are about your schoolwork. And in the end, if they make a mistake that costs you anyway, be prepared for them to make you pay despite all the proof you have anyway.
Oh, also be prepared for lots of not returning calls, passing you around, and lots of "no longer working here" notices if you do end up with a problem in need of solving. All of which will likely result in a process that's only supposed to last a week to a month at max lasting three months longer or more (definitely more if you were looking for any fair solution that's favorable to you but not the school).

I started Ashford in Aug 2010. I was working towards a bachelor's degree. Everything was going fine. I had experienced some not so great TA's, a few difficult instructors but other than that things were good. That was until I received a new student advisor April of this year. That is when things went downhill. June 17/18 of this year over $6000 was returned to my student loan lender. I inquired about this debt because it was being charged to my account from the university. I was told after days of waiting that this was because when my student loan package was put together the school failed to include that they were allotting me military grant discounts. I asked why would I owe the school for their mistake? No answer.
Then the university implemented a new break program in which I did not ask to participate in yet my advisor placed me on a two week break then blamed it in my old advisor. I was not informed of a policy that stated if you don't do the initial assignment the very first day of class that one would be kicked out. I did my initial assignment the day before and my advisor claimed there was no way of knowing I was in class. Lie! Looking at the class discussion board would be a clear indication I participated or contacting the instructor would have aided as well. When I asked about getting back in class she said she would have to submit a reentry review. She said that was a three day process and she would contact me to let me know the outcome.
She didn't. I contacted her and when she finally responded she said it was denied because a paper was missing. This paper which was "missing" was a payment form designating my forms of payment. I had on several other occasions submitted this form. Yet I resubmitted it anyways. Three days later I contacted my advisor repeatedly to find out if I was approved to start class again. She said it was on hold because they were running a national federal student loan data report and there was nothing indicating I ever received student loans. Another lie. It was all over my account! Award letters and everything. I had not filed FASFA since FEBRUARY of last year but yet student loans were received this July.
Now I filed a dispute with the university and was contacted immediately and was told they did not have the authority to place me back in class but I was approved for reentry. Now my advisor has never notified me or acknowledged this. I contacted her several times and have gotten partial answers saying she didn't explain the process. Now I was approved on a Monday for reentry and the prior Thursday they returned my student loan money from the loans I just received only to approve my reentry but she still hasn't put me back in class. She said she was waiting on the finance specialist to contact her with a payment plan. She has never contacted me since.
I informed her I don't owe that it was the university's error and questioned this whole mess. No response. Instead I was emailed by the finance specialist saying I was not an active student and I had 15 days to make payment arrangements or pay the whole amount in full. Then I found holds that had been placed on my account for registration general hold, transcript hold and graduation hold. I called to find some answers. Every person I call I get voice mail, busy signals. I email, no responses. I can't get help resolving this horrid mess. Six classes away from my bachelor's degree and have been screwed over.

So I get into the first week of my classes and was passing with a B. For the next 4 classes, I received all passing grades. I received my financial aid in March which I might add I was promised in February but anyways I did receive it. So I get started into my second classes, the first one being "Computer Literacy". Now I have to add that yes I still was learning on my computer but I am by far not stupid with one.
Everything I tried with this instructor was not good enough. I tried E-mailing the instructor and got nowhere. So instead of just not doing the papers, I did them to the best of my ability. Needless to say, she failed me when I contacted her about this. I was told "I don't know what you are talking about. I was not your teacher." What kind of crap is that. So I questioned this school and as time has progressed, my situation has only gotten worse. I failed a second class "which I worked my ** off for". So okay, I call the Financial Aid lady and she tells me, "Well, your pay for September you won't get but once you complete the class you are currently in, you will receive your pay about October 22nd."
So I get off the phone with her and 2 hours later, I receive another call from my now new advisor and she informs me, "No, you won't receive any money until February of next year," once I complete another 4 classes. Something is wrong with this and when I contacted a few people on this "As in the University Of Michigan" I was told that no this was not right and that I needed to transfer into another college. I am very upset and very angry with the fact that this college has no support for their students and that they play with your money and find ways of putting into their pockets versus the students' needs. If I had to describe this college in two words, it would be RIP OFF. Please if you are looking for an Online College, do not come to Ashford University.

I enrolled into Ashford in January 2011. At the time, I had just enrolled with the Army and was awaiting Basic Training. I talked to my advisor about having to leave in June 2011 for Basic and that I would not be back until Sept. 2011. She assured me that Ashford was a "military friendly" school and that when the time came I could fill out a Leave of Absence due to my military obligation. Sounds great, right? So I enroll and continue on with my courses and it gets close to June. I called my advisor because I noticed that I was enrolled in a course that I already told her I could not complete because I was scheduled to leave for Basic. Of course she was helpful. She apologized and sent me the Leave of Absence form. I filled it out properly and faxed it back.
The next day, I saw that the course was still on my schedule. I called my advisor again. She said she never got the fax. Things happen, I'm usually very understanding. I faxed it again and again I sent my military orders so she knew the date I was scheduled to leave. And yes, I faxed this information 3 more times because she claimed to not get the faxes. Now I was getting really pissed off. I talked to other Ashford employees in advising and financial aid. Finally I was told not to worry, it was all taken care of. Now fast forward a few weeks, I am in a hotel waiting to go through MEPS the next morning and I check my email. I had a nasty email stating that I was in poor academic standing and that I had a D in the class I had told my advisor not to enroll me in because I would be on my way to Ft. Jackson. At this point, there wasn't a whole lot that I could do.
So I had my mom call my advisor and re-fax the LOA papers. My mom is a tough cookie with that stuff. She was all over Ashford. And again, my mom was assured that everything was taken care of and not to worry. She relayed the information to me and we thought all was well. I got back home in Sept from Basic and got settled back into life. I checked my email..... Tons of emails from Ashford about the LOA that we were told was accepted and taken care of. Fuming, I call Ashford. These ** had the audacity to tell me, "Oh, I'm sorry. We don't accept Leave of Absences anymore." !!! Seriously? The LOA form was sent to me via my advisor and never once did she say that it was not a possibility. I was encouraged to fill it out and resume classes when I returned from Basic.
Honestly, what kind of school is this? The Army sends a lot of soldiers to Ashford. I have done my best verbally within my unit and company to tell others not to enroll in Ashford and if they were already there to finish their class and get out. Life has enough problems, we don't need educational institutions making it worse. Now, after I have done more research, I find that Ashford has poor accreditation, is sly with money, and is generally dishonest. Do not go to Ashford! How is this school still running with all of this bad press? I hope and pray that they get investigated because what they are doing to students is wrong. DON'T GO TO ASHFORD!!!

I need help in the correct people to contact regarding student loans and the misuse of funds by an institution. Ashford University is saying that I owe for 3 classes that I never even took and withdrew from the school after the 3rd Masters class that I attempted to take. No classes were scheduled and there was no balance due until I received a bill from them. Now, I am being hounded by a collection agency for the amount due, but they can not tell me why I owe them.
My option is going to be to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy just so I can obtain my transcript from the 4 year I acquired from them to complete my Masters at another school. I'm also in the process of buying a house and I do not want these items showing up on my credit report.

For a school that claims to be accredited and an equal to most traditional colleges in terms of education, the biggest disappointment is the lack of professionalism among the people who run their online programs. After working for more than a year as a teaching assistant, Ashford has suddenly decided to simply discontinue any forms of communication with me; no emails, no access to the web address that notified me of future course assignments, nothing. A call to the IT specialists when my account suddenly was "suspended" resulted in a promise that I would hear from the scheduling office within 48 hours to explain what may have happened. That was 3 days ago... true professionals at Ashford !! Never did they communicate thanks for more than 16 months of service (and for a very minimal wage I might add), nor a reason for their sudden silence and mysterious behavior.
In my most recent class, I had a student write me and tell me my feedback on her writing assignments - made her feel as if she were sitting right in a classroom with me; personal, positive, and helpful. The overwhelming majority of any student correspondence I ever had was of a similar nature. If they have a criticism of mine (or any employee's) effort, they should take the time to be professional enough to make a sincere effort to communicate and work towards a positive resolution. I had tons of emails on what a nice job I did in a previous course, but never heard anything explaining their latest behavior.
My personal opinion is Ashford, while offering some an opportunity to improve their educational lot in life, is basically a school that offers very little in the way of an educational experience that truly challenges a student to improve their skills. Most students that I worked with were fairly good writers, but there were also many who never should have been admitted to a college, nor given the impression that they'll be qualified to be a psychologist or school superintendent, or some other significant position in life that requires strong verbal and written communication skills. I was frequently "encouraged" to ignore some very serious errors and lack of skills, and instead try to find some "positive" aspect of their work to focus on. That's a good idea in general, but it also doesn't prepare people for the real world, and the shock of being told you're not qualified for a position because they can't write a coherent and grammatically correct sentence. My BA and MS degrees required rigorous writing assignments, and no one ever allowed me to slide because it was good for business.
While I'm proud of my efforts on behalf of the students I worked with, I'm ashamed of the way the school has treated me and others like me who have worked for peanuts, put in lots of hours, and are thanked by a university/business that doesn't have the professional skills or corporate ethics to treat people with class and respect. I just thank God my diplomas come from real schools that I can be proud to have been associated with. Those of you running the Ashford online program should hang your heads in shame!!!

When I enrolled in Ashford University, they seemed eager to have me and appeared to want to help me further my education. This, however, was not the case. The teachers spent less time in the online classrooms than they required of the students. If I emailed them with an issue about an assignment I would not hear back until after the assignment was due. Despite three courses on plagiarism, students would openly steal other's work and nothing ever happened to stop them. Even when it was pointed out to the instructors.
After completing seven courses with them I became ill. So ill that I nearly died, which meant I could not attend classes. I contacted my student adviser and told them what was going on. They assured me that everything would be fine and to take my time recovering. This, also, was not true. After the initial conversation about my illness, Ashford stopped answering my emails. When I was finally able to return to classes, I found out that they had failed me in two courses, which would be reflected not only on my transcript but in my tuition fees, and had dropped me from enrollment in their school. I contacted several people with the college and got no response.
Eventually I received an email stating that even though I was no longer a student there, they wanted to help me. I responded to the email telling them my situation and after several weeks was informed that I could fight the charges and failed grades if I became a student with Ashford again. When I agreed to re-enroll with them, they told me that I could not become a student again unless I paid what I owed including the failed courses! So I decided to not re-enroll but pay off what I owed in order to get my transcripts and go somewhere else. When I expressed interest in a payment plan I was informed that what I could afford to pay would need to be reviewed by Ashford.
Then, the "counselor" I was working with told me that she did not like using email as a message system and stopped responding. All of this took so long that my FAFSA loans came due. Now they are threatening to turn me over to collections because "despite their best efforts" I still have an outstanding tuition balance. I am currently looking into filing a lawsuit against Ashford in order to have this balance overturned and my transcripts released, even though only three of the seven credits are transferable to other schools, so that I may finish my degree with a University that cares about me and my education, not just my money.

I enrolled in Ashford University about a year ago and although the classes seemed pricey, I decided to give the school a try. Needless to say, I should not have. The advisors at Ashford University are eager and willing to help you while they get you in. Once you are in they do not answer emails or calls. I had a particular incident in February of this year. I had a family emergency and had to drop a class within three weeks of starting the class. I explained to my advisor that I had a family emergency and that I had no choice but to drop the class. My advisor said I could go ahead and drop the class without a problem. What my advisor failed to tell me that I was going to have to pay for that class out of pocket because Financial Aid was not going to cover it, that I would only have only twelve months to pay for the class, that I was not going to be able to register, and that my transcripts were not going to be released until the balance was paid for.
I took responsibility for my debt, although it did not seem fair. I tried to make payment arrangements with them, and they denied my request because the payments that I could afford were not enough for them. I talked to other schools about my situation and although it did not seem fair to them either there was nothing they could do to help me get in to another school. After looking at my options, I was forced to go back to Ashford and try to make payment arrangements with them that would be enough to satisfy them. Even if my kids will not have clothes to wear I was going to have to pay Ashford money I could not afford. I am a divorced single mom of two small children trying to further my education and I feel like this school has been deceiving and making it hard for me to continue my education. Think twice before enrolling into this school. They show a lot of interest when they are enrolling you. Once you are in, they do not care about you and the truth starts coming out.

I have been reading on here about all the problems that students are having with this college. I wish that I would have done my research before going here. I completed my last class on 6-24-2013 for my BA in Early Childhood Education Administration. I was then contacted the next day by someone asking me to enroll in the Master's Program that they have. I asked them to send me the information. He sent me everything including the application. We talked about everything and this is where I became a little hesitant about the program. He told me that I would have to set a payment plan with a financial advisor and then I could move on with the Application.
After him telling me this, I told him that there shouldn't be a balance, because all my grants and loans would have taken care of it. Well I guess they think that are slick and sent me 2 stipends within 2 months of each other and I didn't realize I guess. Well today I went back through the log to see why I owe them so much money and I am finding things that don't add up. Like only one of my classes in 2012 was $1608.00 and the rest of them were $1206.00. Not sure about that and then my last class I was charged $33.00 for what I thought was a test I had to take and come to find out I had to pay for that again. So not only was I charged for it, but I also had to pay for it.
Then one of my stipends was returned by my bank when I was out of town for a family emergency and never noticed that either. Until today. So according to my calculations they owe me money now. I have contacted the bank and they are sending a copy of the statement so that I can fax them a copy to prove it was returned. And I have my own notations for this account to find out why they are charging different rates. I worked really hard for this degree and I want my piece of paper.

March 2013, I was seeking to return to school when I decided to attend Ashford University. I completed the information page where a person named Jason **. Very friendly, great at building rapport to lead you into the program with half truths. He said I had enough financial aid-in loans only of $22,000. That would be enough to complete my degree program in two years. I told him without financial aid disbursements, attending school at the time would not be feasible. I had lost my job mid-January and getting limited hours with my light construction day job. He assured me everything was good where excess funds would be readily disbursed once all the necessary forms and classes begin. Surely, I had every form submitted.
Within two weeks I was enrolled in the five week course which I chose and a two disbursements were sent...to cover 12 credit hours! But not a dime was given to me for a stipend! I was told at the time, I did not prove I had the required 59 or more credits to be considered a Junior where $10,000 could be allocated vs. $8,500 as a sophomore. So I submitted transcripts where I had over 65 credit hours in Business Administration and other course studies in pursuit of a Sports and Recreational Management Degree from Ashford.
I submitted transcripts for audit, updated the Student Aid Report (SAR for Federal Aid), waited for the award letter, waited for the disbursement date, was told by the the financial adviser at the time, Wendy **, Jorge ** (financial services), and eventually, Shelby ** several updates as per phone calls and emails that I am amazed it took 18 weeks to get a $1,000 stipend (which is also a loan).
I had issues with the curriculum. They insisted I take the freshman English courses I took several previously as it was said to be taken over 5 years ago. At $1,200 a class, I thought it would be asinine to do so. I tried to convince them that I didn't complete 60 plus credits in college without passing an English course. But they enrolled me in one anyway. They said I didn't pass an English proficiency Exam required by Ashford University. Because these are loans which have to be repaid, it behooves you to utilize these funds the most cost effective way. Not that I recommend a loan to take care of your college expenses, I understand for many students including myself have a history of borrowing to cover educational expenses.
Ashford University is not the place I would recommend to invest a cent towards their college programs of "study". Do yourself a favor and simply go to either an accredited school where the enrollment fees are transparent, accessible, timely, and relevant. I can go on, but trust me, you don't want to get caught up in this school. If you are attending "class", get out. If you are out, don't go in. The 5 week cram is cruel scam; the term stipend should be changed to loan because they are simply applying for and receiving a loan for you and disbursing it as if it's a courtesy for good work in class!!
There are other words in my vocabulary, but it makes me mad because I feel like a fool thinking something so good is true, and I wasted time and money by not waiting a few weeks and simply wait a few weeks to save money going to a traditional school with online classes! I didn't expect after my 5 years overseas I would return to get ripped off. Very disappointed.

Being enrolled with Ashford University has been a tough battle. The staff refused to tell me anything or would claim they didn't know. I discovered that Ashford was sending back my Pell Grants. Half of the grant in question was received in April - May 2013 and the other half received in June 2013. I was not charged for the amount until May 2013. Now once I discovered what they did and finally got someone to admit it, I was told that it was the half from a class taken in April 2013. I filed a grade appeal with all factual documentation and it was denied. When I inquired to have the matter reconsidered I was told that this was a final decision and no other department within the university could override this decision.
This was very suspect if you ask me. Now you may be asking why they were sending back the grants and/or loans, was I ineligible, etc? The answer is simple and it had nothing to do with me being ineligible because I was eligible. Ashford does that so they can line their pockets plus on a couple of occasions, I was told that Ashford does not get paid on grants but they DO get paid on loans - the whole loan origination fee and all.
I kept notes of everyone I talked to every time. I filed grievance and the appeal. Of course that did not do any good. Several times I have talked to people who state that they ALWAYS use the FULL amount of the grants/scholarships before the loans are used. Obviously, this is not true. I record the phone calls from start to finish each time I spoke with them just so I have the call recorded as well. I found out often that these liars stories change.
When I asked to speak with the Dean, I was told there isn't one, but in fact there is, though the Dean is not accessible. I was also told there was not a President of the school, again there is. So many lies are told to current and past students and prospective students such as (I just got off the phone as a "prospective student" inquiring about financial aid) this: Advisor: "There is no reason for the Pell Grant to be sent back, other than the student is not compliant with their classes. As long as the student attends and completes class, the Pell will be used first and completely." Something needs to be done about this school.

I enrolled and began completing my AA in business as I work full time and have a hard time finding time for traditional classes. First, their classes are ridiculously easy. I read 3 books out of the entirety of my student career. Then, I asked them to switch two of my classes around. This SOMEHOW resulted in them listing that I had dropped out! I had to call and fight to get back in my classes since I was so close to completion. Then the trouble with my financial aid started. They kept losing my tax papers that contained my social security number, my birth date and any other information someone could need to steal my identity. They lost these papers 3 times!
When I finally finished my degree, I paid my "graduation fee". They charge students $150 just to get their diploma and transcripts. I paid it because I had to get the papers I needed. Then literally the next day, I get contacted that they've put a hold on my papers because I owed them money! This being the straw that broke the camel's back, I fired off an email. It had a single swear word in it, and the representative responded back that I was childish and to not talk to him anymore. I told him that would be fine, as long as he would do his job and see that I have paid what I owe. Long story short, don’t waste your time with this school. Then out of the blue, they called and threatened to send me to collections for a class I had taken and was not covered with enough funds in my account. What? I asked for some time to review the account. They called everyday! I picked up, and they indicated this was their last call.
My options were to settle for 50% pay off, but I could never come back to them, or pay it off in full. It wasn't until I asked if they had payments was it revealed. I am so done with these people. I was very excited by what my advisor said about being able to obtain my Master's Degree in Education through Ashford starting in 2010. I worked hard in the year and a half with a newborn and working full-time as a teacher to finish my degree with a 3.75. When speaking with the advisor, I asked her if the work through her program would get me an endorsement in ESOL (English as a Second Language) like I was looking for. She said yes, it was fully transferable. Well, according to a higher up in their school that emailed the state of Virginia Licensure department, "the program does not provide licensure or certification in any state!"
Why would anyone take classes with Ashford knowing this ahead of time? They wouldn't!! I can speak with no one higher than the call agents and they asked me to fill out the dispute form NOT to go farther with other avenue, like the Dept of Edu and the Attorney General (that is filing suit in IA). In doing research afterwards, I also found out that some of the accreditations listed on the website are not accredited and never have. Due to fraud, I am just hoping my student loans back to go to a real accredited school or I will not be able to move forward in my education. I have noticed now that there are disclaimers on their website now stating that their degrees are worthless. But in 2010, they were buried on their agreement letter in fine print!

I was looking to get a BA fast and thought it would be possible since I already had an accredited AA. When I spoke with the Ashford Admission (Sales) team, they told me everything I wanted to hear. I would be able to get my BA in a year. Sounds great, sign me up! Well, shortly after my transcripts arrived, I was given several bogus reasons why I needed to take more lower level courses in addition to my core curriculum. The 1 year time frame ballooned to 2 years. Initially, I was mad but I was determined to get my degree so I pushed ahead and made progress for about 6 months. I had a deployment (I was in the Army at the time) to Afghanistan and talked to my rep about it. She said Ashford was a military friendly college and they would work with me.
The short of it was they did not work with me. After an unresponsive Instructor, I ended up having to fight for a military withdrawal from 2 classes. But then I still ended up paying for two additional classes out of pocket for withdrawing or taking an F. Very disgusted with them at that point and thought I'd be done with them. I was then 'dropped' from Ashford, but I didn't realize that they had put my account under a bogus financial hold. They said I owed them money which I later determined was a way of making my 'drop' look like it wasn't, because I chose to leave but that I was in a hold status for nonpayment. I found this out when I was trying to get transcripts to apply to another school. Tricky, tricky Ashford.
My School rep told me that once I reapplied to Ashford, the financial problem should be cleared away (I hadn't told him that I was applying to another school). He let me know that Ashford didn't want to hinder my academic goals in getting my degree. LOL. (Please insert sarcasm here if you haven't done so.) So as soon as that went through, the hold was lifted and I ordered my transcripts and said "Goodbye Ashford!" From what I understand, Ashford is an 'accredited' school. Tip: if you can't use Federal money/loans, for sure don't go to that college.
However, Ashford is accredited but it is accredited by the easiest accreditation in the US (Midwest states or something like) so the true value of degree is probably not worth the amount of money and time you put into it. Some people will say that a degree from Ashford is all about what you put into it. I'd say if you want to go back to 6th grade and put a lot of effort and time into that you can be an awesome 6th grader, but don't compare that to a real education if that's what you want. Those that have a BA or for MA (God help your soul) from Ashford might find that the college loans they're still paying off can land you a job that high school students get. My vote: Go to a real college; don't waste your time and money with Ashford.
