What got me interested in Events and Adventures is finding out different things I wouldn't normally do. I was nervous at first, but it changed since everybody was nice and pretty calm. I had attended no less than 50 events, and prefer the more outdoorsy ones like the hike and the social meetings like the ball type thing. I've made a few friends and it's been really fun. Met a pretty significant amount of people. E&A was shocking at first but it's kind of addicting.

I've been a member of Events & Adventures now for about going on six years. A friend at work called me up and said “I just heard this thing. You need to call.” So, I went online and found out that a friend referred me. I got interested because of the idea that it was activities-based, and not trying to match people up.

First, I was somewhat anxious. As a woman, I was already heading my 50s, you worry about being judged on your appearance and things and who you might meet and all the rest of it. But by the time I got in, my first event was a new member mingle. There were people there asking me how long I've been in the group. I said I knew what I was doing because I don’t have a problem meeting new people so I was immediately comfortable. I've only done one of those trips. I do travel, but I tend to travel not in groups as much. But I have met lots of friends, and I tried to attend an average of one event a week. That’s what I aim for. And I tell new members that all the time.

My favorite event was a Memorial and Labor Day tubing. There’s a river about two hours north of here where I live, and we usually get anywhere from 20-40 people to go, and it’s a lot of fun. I have done all kinds of events from the singles mingle, the ones that the 40s and 50s, and 20s and 30s separate, and some of the artsy ones where you make clay pottery or do whatever. A lot of the dinners and things like that when they go to ethnic restaurants, festivals, films, there’s just so many. We’re right here on the coast, so we go out on boats that take you out for sunset, cruises with drinking and dancing. I’m not so big for the athletic events. I’m not somebody that’s wanting to go climbing rock walls, but they have that. I don’t really get into watching the sports events, because my favorite teams always lose if I’m there. So, I've been banned by all the fans and my family. It’s true. I've been called a jinx by my family members, so I’m not allowed to attend the race games. The baseball team, I’m not allowed to attend.

They have been very responsive whenever we've had any suggestions, whether to repeat events or events that we would like to see, or events that we definitely don’t want to do again. The local office has been very responsive. Financially, some people can’t stay. They’re not able to afford it. They’re just some friends that I've made. The only negative is that especially joining. But I have friends who only joined for one year and couldn't afford to do the three-year now you’re permanent thing like I did. And they can’t, unless were in a public place, they can’t just join the events that we do. I can’t bring them as a guest if they were once a member. So, that’s kind of harsh. But that’s the only negative.

I have had a couple of dates out of it, but I have met lots of very good female friends. Even ones who have not stayed in the group, we are still friends. I have done vacation travels with the ladies that I've met in the group. We do a lot of outside things on our own. Yes, it’s been a way to meet women that I would never otherwise have encountered. We’re at that stage in our lives where in our 50s that sometimes crap happens. You’re there for each other in a way that you’re a family and your children and stuff can’t be. My experience with Events & Adventures is definitely worthwhile, worth the money and pure enjoyment.

My friend heard a radio advertisement of Events and Adventures. It was like "Hey, it sounds like a really fun group. Mikey, you want to go and check it out?" and I was like "Alright, I'll check it out." So I went to the website, punched in my info and all of a sudden, ta-da! I got a phone call and I was like "Oh wow they're calling me." It's not just like signing up for something online. It's actually humans on the other end of it.

Everyone was very welcoming on my first event and I was a little intimidated because you do have in the back of your head "What did I sign up for?" and you don't really know what you're going into the first time. You have a hunch what you're getting into but you haven't seen it yet until you actually go to that first event, your second event or third event or whatever. So I was honestly a little bit nervous but once I got there and started talking with people, everyone there was pretty chill, then everything's good. From talking to other people in the group, that seems to actually be kind of the way they felt about it too. They were a little bit nervous going into their first event but once they actually started mingling and realize "Hey, it's just for the most part a bunch of normal people." I mean obviously you're going to always have a kind of anomaly in the system where you talk to someone and it's like "Wow, they really just said that??" But that's anywhere, not just in Events and Adventure, that's life in general.

There's all kinds of different events. I've done all kinds of things. They got the ice breakers and the 20-30 mingles... One time we did a smoothie event that we went to... There are hikes, boat rides and wine festivals... We did a Habitat for Humanity build... I knew they've done scavenger hunts in the past and we do different things like glass blowing and we may have done pottery one time... I know we did volleyball... We did a trampoline event once which was fantastic. It was on a Friday night where they have 40 of us together hanging out in one of those Rebounderz trampoline places and we have an entire section to ourselves where we could do just trampolines or trampoline dodge ball. It was just as awesome as it sounds.

One of my favorite activities is going on a boat ride and part of that is because it's kind of being I would roll out the door, get down to something in your backyard to mingle and meet with people and whatnot. You meet up at the dock, get on the boat -- you get out on a boat ride basically in Potomac River. You cruise around there for a little while having a good time and then eventually you go and get dinner down at one of the restaurants along the Potomac River shore. You dine then you leave by boat and go back to the starting harbor. It's an awesome event. Additionally, I'm a little biased toward the hikes and that's because a) I like the outdoors and b) I'm also the guy who leads all the hikes so it's a good time. It gets a lot of people outside. It gets them away from the TV and get all that sun and jazz and just hanging out and enjoying some good old quality nature.

There's a hike that Jen the event director of Washington area and I are working on together. We haven't exactly mailed out what location it is. We had one place in mind but we're thinking we might try another location out. We usually try to rotate between Maryland and Virginia. That way we keep all the people over DC happy and you get some of the people who are way up in the outreaches of Maryland. That way they have a hike that's relatively close to them and then we'll get one in Virginia. Because I need to get people who are way out in the outreaches of Virginia, it's a little bit closer to that. That way it's appealing to everyone all at once.

Another very positive point about it all which I knew they tell on the radio advertisements that they have done in the tests is the concept that a lot of your friends at least when you get to the age. A bunch of my friends outside they've all started pairing off and getting married and they're not as inclined to go out on a weeknight or do things as much anymore in terms of a group setting or just going and about kind of deal. So it's nice to be able to be around a bunch of people who are interested and also going out and doing different things whether it's something that is going to be a challenge or what you're comfortable with... in terms of doing something like skydiving or hang gliding or a lot of crazy activities like that or just standard "Hey, let's go grab a drink tonight and just shoot the breeze in the bar" kind of thing. So it's definitely a plus being able to have that kind of environment where you know that the people are there because they want to be there not because they're obliging something, someone or something of that nature.

I've made plenty of new friends and I've dated a bunch of people on the group now. Nothing has worked out long-term for me but for other people it definitely has. It's pretty awesome in that regard. We covered a lot of good stuff there. Honestly, overall it's a fantastic experience and part of the thing I like about it is that because you have all of these events available to you where on any given weekday if you get home from work, or let's say you got to work and you don't have time to maybe organize with your friend to go out and do something or try to coordinate everyone or you're just looking for something to do, there's always something on the calendar. You open up the calendar... "That looks a lot of fun. I can go out and do that." So then you call up the host or you sign up on the website to figure out if there's still a space for the event. If yes, excellent... "Let's go do this." So that way it gives you something to do during the weekday or maybe otherwise you might not have that opportunity.

Biggest rip off ever!! These people are dishonest and will do anything to keep your money. They told me I could cancel, but were not honest with me about cancellation policies. Thus, I was roped into losing my money even after I discovered how lame the club was. It costs over a thousand dollars a year. However, just about all the activities cost additional money, and this is on top of monthly dues. Not one of the activities is that remarkable, as most consist of going out to dinner or playing board games/cards, etc. (wow!!!!). They'll tell you it's primarily young singles that comprise the group, but it's really mostly made up of divorced middle aged people. Just a big rip off and waste of time in general!!!

I heard about Events & Adventures from my single cousin who lives in Dallas, Texas. It truly is a group of people going out as friends and enjoying activities together. At first I'm a little nervous. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, and I’m trying to think what my first event was. I’m sure it had to do with eating. Everybody was just so nice and so friendly. I was with them in Ireland for eight days and I’m getting ready to go to Russia with them. I haven't been to Russia yet. The Ireland trip was unbelievable. It was spectacular. They have to go along to beat that one.

The hotels were good, and the food was excellent. I put on seven pounds. I don't even want to talk about it. But the accommodations were nice. They were easy access to other activities. Like when we were in Dublin, we were not right downtown, which is probably good, because that was St. Patrick's Day weekend. But there were other pubs around that we could walk to, and feel very comfortable walking to. It wasn't like you were in a very suburban setting nice sidewalks, nice houses, pretty trees and that sort of thing. And in [Gullway], we were right there in the middle of the activity, a pedestrian street where all the pubs were, there's lots of pubs in Ireland.

The activities were great. I thoroughly enjoyed myself doing it again in a heartbeat. It allows you to try to experience different things that you wouldn't try on your own, like paintball. I'm not going to do that again. It hurts! If it hadn't been for Events & Adventures, I would not have gone skydiving. I have been horseback riding. I have been to plays, Broadway plays in Tampa. One of our favorite things to do is go to the Swan restaurant. Its a caterers, and we go there and cook a three-course meal. There was French one time; it was pastries another time. The next one is going to be Italian. Under a chef, we learn how to cook these meals. I'm not really looking for a significant other. I'm just looking to be able to go out and enjoy doing things, and not having to do them by myself. I have made new friends.

We cook, they give back to the community, they've done metropolitan ministries, they've gone down there and worked in a food bank. This past weekend, we went to the humane society here and worked with the animals for about three or four hours. So, they volunteered there. I know they go scuba diving, I know they've gone sailing. Ive tried paddle boarding, but I was sticking because I didn't want to stand up. I stayed on knees the whole time. We've just done so many things. And we eat a lot. We go out to eat a lot. And that's something else. I've gone to restaurants that I would have not tried, gone to one called Spain downtown and they had a flamenco dancer there. And then the famous Columbia restaurant, we had flamenco dancing there. I took swing dance classes from there. You go to these places, and for the most part, the management of wherever the venue, more than accommodating, because they know they'll get people back on your own. But I would not have gone to some of these places if I haven't going in a group. We got baseball games; we got football games and soccer games anyway, any kind of dancing. I enjoyed going to their events. I’m having a blast!. I have recommended them.

I believe that Events and Adventures was misrepresented. They made it sound like networking with people that were similar to what I was looking for. I was excited on the first meeting hopeful to meet some new people but nothing was as it was stated with the type of people. Some were friendly, some were acting desperate and clingy. I did 3 or 4 events in April. I'm just kind of giving up on it now. It's not worth my time but I'm going to try one tomorrow. A few of the group activities I've participated in were the 20 and 30's party, an ice breaker, hiking which was my favorite so far. But overall, it was interesting but it's a waste of money. I cannot recommend it.

I don't like going anywhere by myself, but with Events and Adventure I can go out and have somebody to get out of the house. I'm scared when we arrived at the event and It took me about five events before I was comfortable with it. I did go to Ocean City but that was still in Maryland so it's not really a good trip. I didn't go on an actual trips with E&A but I've gone to a lot of events. I did the ice breakers, the 20's and 30's events. I like the rock climbing and the spelunking in the cave, the caving events and I went skydiving. There's some ziplining events that I've gone to. They have a lot of good hikes there too and I love it.

The dinners are sometimes good, sometimes not. I've made a lot of new friends. I've not met a significant other, I don't look for that in the group. I'm not as shy as I used to be. It has definitely brought me out of my shell. I enjoyed my experience with E and A. I definitely don't regret it. I know some people have regretted it that have expressed to me. I like the new things, always trying a number of things so when my membership is up I'll probably continue, that's in a year though. I have recommended it to a friend.

I got interested with Events and Adventures because they do a lot of stuff. I believe I’m the longest lasting member of the club. I was a little scared during the first event because I didn't know a lot of people there. But after I got there, I definitely found a lot of people that I like and I have a lot of friends now in the course of meeting through Events & Adventures.

On the last six years, I had hundreds and hundreds of trips and events. My favorite was when we went on a ski trip to Colorado or Wyoming. That was a lot of fun. It was like a week-long and met a lot of cool people there. I've been skydiving, light water rafting, rock climbing, shooting, archery, lots and lots of dinners, lots of picnics and things like that. I definitely had a good time. I have not met a significant other, but definitely a lot of long-lasting friends. I would definitely recommend it to friends, and I have recommended to other friends. I've made some new friends that I'll only see in E&A. Definitely no one there that I'll ever have a relationship with. It's like we know they're very misleading with the type of people and all the information. I'm also very disappointed with the fact that everything is in Virginia or mostly everything is in Virginia. We thought it was going to be DC based like it says their office is in DC but it's really in Virginia and just everything so far. So it's like spending a lot of money on gas and on time and everything to try to make up for the money that I had to pay for this and I would never recommend E&A to a friend in the future.

But the overall experience was interesting. I have a friend that I guess we thought it would be a good idea for her and I to just join it. Most of my friends are married with babies and don't have a lot of time so it just seemed like a nice place to meet new people and try a new thing. I’ve attended probably 7 or 8 of their events. My favorite trip was the charade. I actually have one trip planned tonight. I've had mingles at bars, the charades so it's like a game night. Tonight it's going to be painting with ceramics. Most of the stuff is at bars which I hate because I don't drink and I told her this and she's like 'Oh, no. It's cool.' Everything except to events at a bar.

I've attended four of their events so far and none of them was my favorite. I've made a small group of friends, about four of us but it's been a pretty disappointing experience. I think everybody that I've talked to for the most part in my age group that I've associated with there has been disappointed with it. They were all sold a bill of goods that they haven't really produced. We were all told different things regarding pricing that weren't available. Packages that weren't available. I know that I've been deceived on a couple of occasions.

During my interviewer I was deceived about how things are run, what their cost was, and through talking with people there we find that everybody has paid something different. They've been told something different and also the caliber of people I would say that we were promised would be there hasn't been fulfilled either. The experience was completely disappointing and deceitful.

It's definitely been worth it as a transplant to be able to come in and meet a whole bunch of people, many of which are still my friends today. I was a transplant to the cities and I really wanted to get out and meet new people and do new things. I was excited to be out and about and doing some things with other people. I was brand new to the area and didn't really know anybody at all. So I figured Event and Adventures would be a way to meet a group to go out and do things. I was in the military before so I was used to walking in a new crowd so it wasn't too bad going to my first event. I was more curious maybe and it was fun the first time. On average I go to about two events a month. My favorite is the camping trips, like the weekend trips locally. I always liked the outdoors and that worked out for me. I've been to some house parties and a couple of country dancing nights. I like the way it does kind of scream for people. It has accomplished everything I was looking for. My biggest complaint is that it's a little bit overpriced for the specific service especially because you have to pay for some of the events on top of the membership.

Events & Adventures seemed appealing to singles and they talked about offering a variety of activities that you could do and meet people with similar interests. I had heard of them through a radio advertisement on KFOG out of San Francisco. I was a little bit apprehensive to commitment of money upfront. But I'm fairly outgoing so I was pretty excited about going to my first event. There was a sense that it was the beginning of a new adventure. It's been a year and I average going to at least 1 or 2 things every week. I like the sightseeing walks. You could basically walk and talk with people such as walk around Lake Merritt in Oakland. And then I'm taking a painting class which would be my second one. I found it very rewarding. I also like the after work mingles and there's generally one a week because you have a chance to meet and talk with other people. It's a great venue to meet new people, make new friends and connect with other people.

I know some women that have come to events and they're disappointed because they see more women than men attending. They think of this as a way of meeting the man of their dreams and it's not the ultimate goal. The ultimate goal is to get out there, discover yourself and things you like to do, meet other people and make friends. It's not necessarily an avenue towards speed dating by any means.

One of the group activities I participated in was at Games Works where basically you go to any arcade type of area and you play for free all night which was pretty cool. I did a few of the boat cruises and that's fun but I don't drink. A lot of the other people drink and it's kind of amusing to watch them. Now I've been to some 40 events. One was the Labor Day camp out and that stuck in my mind because it was an opportunity to see people multiple days in a row and interact with people at breakfast and somebody else at lunch and throughout the day. Another one is the one where I decided that this was going to be okay and that was at a volleyball event. These were the types of people I want to hang out with where we can get together and play some volleyball and go out afterwards and have a drink or a hamburger. It's what I want my life to be. There's always stuff going on and I'm always up for new challenges. I've participated in various activities including volleyball, whirlyball, soccer, rock climbing and dinners. I'm also a host so I host a lot of the events as well.

I'm having a blast with Events and Adventures! I had been hearing them advertising on the radio for a while and since I was recently single, I decided to see what was going on with it. I joined about a month ago. I just went to my twelfth or thirteenth one last night. It's a lot of fun. I have nothing but good things to say about them. It's probably one of the best decisions I've made in my life. The first event I went to was the New Member Icebreaker. From there, we had games night which was right afterwards. And I started meeting a bunch of really cool people. I've made a lot of new friends. I'd recommend this to anybody. I already have people that said that when they get the money, they're going to join.

I heard my boss speaking with another co-worker, and he mentioned Events and Adventures. I ended up checking it out instead of that co-worker. I like meeting new people. I'm a very social person so I was interested in getting out and meeting new people and the potential to meet a guy. My very first event was actually a private karaoke event. It took me two months to go to my very first event because I was so nervous and I couldn't make it to any of the ice breakers that month. And then I was just, "Oh, I'll just do it." I ended up going and it was lots of fun and where I met a girl that has been like my best friend ever since. I met so many other friends as well. I haven't found a significant other yet. I've made tons of friends so I've made lots of significant people anyhow. In fact, we just do things on our own as well outside of the club and with those who are no longer members. We're friends outside of the club. It was good.

The first time I had ever heard about Events and Adventures was through my friends. They were the ones that heard it on the radio stations and they thought that it would be something good for me to try. I didn't like how it wasn't diverse. It was actually one population. When I was being interviewed by the employee there, they were very clear about the age groups. It was presented to be my age range which is late twenties or early thirties and I felt it was more like late forties or fifties. Most of the events that I went to were older. But I've been to trampoline dodge ball and a sleepover. That was pretty cool and fun. I've signed up for trampoline dodge ball a few times after the first one. I've met a pretty cool friend.

I had heard about Events and Adventures on the 99.5 radio. I was interested in meeting more singles in the area and the fun activities they had. I'm adventurous and an adrenaline junkie, very outgoing, very upbeat and love to meet new people. I had just gotten out of a relationship and I knew if I didn't do something like this, I would just dive everything into work and I'd work all the time.

I have gone to more events last year, about three a week. Since New Year's came around, I've been a little busier so I haven't done as many. I will try to get to maybe a dozen event this year. I've gone to quite a few of the volunteer events. It's really nice being able to go and help the less fortunate plus by doing that it gives some more gratification and makes me realize that no matter how bad it gets, it can always get worse. You should be grateful for what you have, not what you don't have. I like the whirlyball events. The trampoline dodge ball was great and the trivia is always fun where you hang out and play trivia. I'm a little competitive so I'd like to do the more competitive events. The play though, Elf, was really nice. I've never been to a play before so that was really cool. I've not really had a bad experience in the events. All the events I've been to have been a good time.

I just had the very unpleasant experience of being 'interviewed' for membership in this quasi social single organization. I have been single for 7 months and am 68 years old. I have an active social life, but a friend suggested I look into this group. I was brutally subjected to a fast talking, rude and arrogant witch, who frantically and fanatically tried to strong arm me into a membership beginning at $2250 for one year and upwards of $3500 for three years. I am not that desperate or stupid to pay some organization a fee to arrange a party of other fools, who then pay an additional fee for the event. This is a con straight away. Avoid them at all costs.

Events & Adventures sounded like there were a lot of fun things to do and I didn't know many people to do those kinds of things with, so I figured it would be good that I get it. Once you sign up, they encourage you to sign up for an event. That time I signed up for some movie, so showed up at the movie and I was a little nervous, because meeting new people can always be a little nerve-wracking... Turns out they had men there that were acting like five-year-olds that were nothing like the ones you'd see on the commercial. It was a bait and switch thing, in my eyes, so that was a little disappointing. However, since joining E&A, I've been on about ten trips, including skiing, and met some really wonderful people while attending events and some of the events were things that I never would have done otherwise without the club.

There have been some really fun boat trips - We used to have party cruises on the Islander. They had a great DJ and then they had a buffet and we would go around the lake for a couple of hours and dance and have fun with our friends. But the trip I liked the most was my second trip to Hawaii (in 2002?). Thirty people went and it was a lot of fun.

The demographics of the group are in the 40s and 50s and being 32 it's not what I'm looking for. After one event I was over it. It was not for me and thought these people will give me my money back since I'm not a satisfied customer. I was wrong. I spoke to Robert ** in their Seattle office and told him of my years of social anxiety and he said if I got doctor's notes it would help me get my money back. After going through medical records and getting notes they told me that since it's a preexisting condition they couldn't help me out. I didn't realize that preexisting conditions mattered to these people. It doesn't matter to insurance companies but somehow it does to them. Obama will need to write a clause or amendment stating E&A is included in eliminating preexisting conditions in their paperwork. Join MeetUps or other programs, folks. This is not the place to meet people.

One of my girlfriends told me about Events and Adventures because a friend of hers had joined and talked about the different things that they did. The first event I chose was an overnight at the Oakland Zoo. I didn't know anybody and I drove by myself. That in and of itself was pretty adventurous of me. I was a little nervous about it. I'm over fifty and there were a couple of women in my age group that were already there. I'm still friends with them to this day. It was great. They were very welcoming and I had a nice time. I've been with the group for over three years and I've done a lot of events. I don't do too many events during the week not like the younger ones do so most of my events are weekend stuff, unless the event is relatively close. I also don't do a lot of the drinking events - it's just like pub calls and things like that.

The most exciting ones were things that I thought about doing. When I was raising my daughter, I wouldn't necessarily risk certain things but I did skydiving. It was so much fun and I was really excited. I wasn't too scared about it. Somebody had actually died in a skydiving event like a week or two prior to it, so it was like, "okay I'm ignoring it. We're doing a tandem..." And life happens, that happens. I would do it again. Some of the camping stuff has been a lot of fun and it's where you really get to know people. Restaurants tend to be loud so it's hard to talk to others in the group except maybe a few people right next to you. I've done the horseback riding and enjoyed that. We've actually got another one coming up for that. I've done some of the sports thing but I'm not as in shape as I was when I was in my twenties or even thirties so those were a little bit tough for me, and a lot of them like the volleyball and dodge ball are during the week. I get up at five-thirty in the morning so that's why I limit my weekday events. I love doing the shows; I've been to a number of musicals.

I've not met significant others. I think that in the older age ranges it gets a little more challenging for whatever reason. Some of my peer equals age-wise have met others but I still think the mix is more women than men and part of that is a lot of the guys do the sporting events so that can be a little bit iffy, and then frankly when you got a bunch of cute younger women, you're not going to be the first ones they'll look at. Although I would very much like to meet one, the reason I joined E and A is to get out of the house, do things and have fun, and meet people.

If you are expecting to find the soul mate and it was more like a dating club, you're going to be disappointed. If you go in thinking "I'm here to have fun, that however long it takes, it takes," you're going to have a great experience. It's all about expectation.

I went down for an interview and they told me about the options and I decided which duration. From then on, I could see the calendar and I could just choose what events I wanted and then sign up for them online. I haven't gone on any trips yet but I do several events a month probably about 1 a week, on average. I have enjoyed in general most of the events that I've gone to. Sometimes the music isn't to my taste or it was a little different than I anticipated but in general, mostly I've enjoyed the events I've been to. I think they offer a wide variety of choices, and that's nice.

I had heard about Events & Adventures on US 99 radio station. I wanted to have a social calendar. And I liked that it wasn't a dating process as I told Christine when she was interviewing me. I didn't want to feel like a cow put in a corral to see if we're going to mate or not. Going to my first event was like a Disney story. I didn't plan it. I wasn't looking for it. I just didn't want to do the same old thing on New Year's Eve and my plans got ruined by weather so I decided to go to their event.

I went down there, walked in and asked for the Events & Adventures. The guy treated me like a million dollars at the door and walked me upstairs and said, "Oh, this would be your room for the night, sir." I was impressed and felt really important. Right after that, I said, "Boy, this isn't bad for a New Year’s Eve recovery." I was talking to a few girls there and Christine from Events & Adventures came over and said, "Robert, I have someone for you to meet." I'm like, "I already met someone, we're doing good." The woman she introduced me to? We've never parted. It was within 15 minutes. I'm going to her house for dinner tonight and we've gone for 5 or 6 events. We see each other outside there too. It’s unbelievable. My whole life took a turn for the better because of Events and Adventures.

It's probably one in a million that this would happen to anybody. With Events & Adventures, it's guaranteed that after you'd been to 2 or 3 of these events, you're going to know somebody and feel comfortable. Somebody is going to come up and greet you and the host will be there. It's not the same thing as walking into a bar and not knowing anybody. It's like having everything filtered out that's bad so it's nice.

What drawn me to Events and Adventures is the interest of going out and doing different things with the club. When signing up I had three phone calls from two different people and they made me come into their office for an interview. They explained everything they did, drops the price and see if you're interested. I was like, "sure why not?" But the most unfortunate part is that you're locked in to your contract after one event. You don't even get a trial for one event to see how it is.

When I arrived at my first event I didn't feel any different. I'm a pretty outgoing person so... I arrived with happiness. I've probably done every single event so far - about six events. The most rewarding one was volunteering at the zoo. The most that impressed me was the mixology because it seemed more like a VIP type. The most fun was the skydiving and the second would be Whirlyball.

Downside is that the majority of the events, probably 90% of the events, are something that I could go do but just never thought of it. They promote it's an exclusive club but I still have to pay for the event even though E&A are planning it and I'm getting a general admission. The majority of the people that I know couldn't afford this club so you expect the exclusivity, but I'm not getting any VIP treatment that you would expect from being from the "exclusive." I had a little bit higher expectations.

When it comes to people, a lot of them are very, very friendly and I've had made my own little group so we go out and do stuff afterwards. Every event has an after-party but for the most part it's hanging out outside the after-party which is cool.

I'm always wary when something comes up that I don't know about in whatever way because there are so many scams going on. They ask for your phone number or name and somebody called me from the Seattle office where their headquarters are. They set up an interview for me to go into the San Francisco location, and that was January of 2010. I've been a member ever since then. I was nervous going to my first event because I still didn't know what I was getting into and I was wondering if it was going to be worth it. My impression of most singles group is they're a bunch of old people so it was a real relief when I went to my first event to see people around my age with some younger and others older.

There are many events that are fun. The trampoline dodge ball was a blast. Unfortunately, they don't have it in Concord anymore but I'm hoping we'll get it again on our way. It's a great workout. I miss trampoline dodge ball! The camping trips are fun because we can spend time with people and most of our meals were included. I also like to do the hikes because I'm an outdoors person. Mostly, I like to be in events where you can talk to people, meet people and interact, and sometimes when you go to a movie, it's not social but they might have a get together before or afterwards. There are some other events that come up every once in a while that I might try, like a restaurant or going to a water slide park or a water fight, and there are some events that I don't want to go to as much but then you get to choose.

In fact, I have an upcoming trip planned where I signed up for Vegas. It's a really cool and easy way to meet other people.

I have been to a couple of events that I did have a good time at but the fact that they can't seem to get their accounting together is the worst. I was charged twice to go at a hang gliding event that the person in charge of left the group at. I ended up calling for a week before someone finally called to the main office to get it corrected. Then it took two weeks to get a refund. When I signed up, I signed a contract to have them deduct the funds from my account every month but today I get a call from another company saying they didn't get their money and they'd been hired to get the money from me. First, how is it possible that you didn't deduct money from me but now are sending bill collectors after me? Second, now I need to give my info to a third party to take money from me after I already signed a contract. I don't think so. Stay away from this company. It can't get its money handling right.

What I like about Events and Adventures is that you get the opportunity to try new things that you wouldn't normally get to try on your own. Signing up was easy and can be done on their website. I have attended lots of events and been on many trips. We went snowshoeing this past winter and all these things that you always wanted to do but never had anyone to do it with. The New Year's party was good. Our favorite is the games night which happens once a month. It's just plain board games played in a pub. It's like where most people go to. It's been a good experience for me and I've made new friends. Events and Adventures made it about getting out and doing things as opposed to making it primarily about dating.

I first heard about Events and Adventures on the radio and got interested in joining because of the events they organize. I've been in it for a year and go to 3-4 events a week at least. It's really great. We did a hike on Sunday and I'm really outgoing so I like to hike and then last night we played ultimate frisbee and I made 5 interceptions on the Frisbee field. It's fun! I do a lot of sports so I've found a place where I actually fit in.

When it comes to being in a relationship, I'm really slow at certain things so I'm tugging along, just having fun. I'm actually dating the 3rd person in the year I've been... but it's not just about dating and trying to meet women, it's about meeting everybody, guys and girls, and having a blast!!!

I've dated within the group and had one that was actually starting to get pretty serious. Nothing is perfect but I've just been very happy overall. It was exactly what I needed at the right time.

I heard about Events and Adventures through a radio commercial while I was driving my car. I've heard that commercial several times so eventually I was like, "Well, why not give it a shot?" Before arriving to my first event I really hoped this was worth it. I was a little nervous because I didn't know what to expect and I want to make sure to give a good impression. After I got there they helped me feel at ease and got to know each other right after that.

I've been a member since July and I have attended at least 50 or 60 events and I'm also a host. I happened to join right after they did skydiving so I'd love to do that. The ones that I really enjoyed were the more active ones, doing stuff that I did not do in the first place like dancing lessons and obviously ones where the people I knew were there. I've made lots of friends. A new member decided to bring her best friend to the first event. Now I am dating her best friend. I refer all my friends to it and let them know there are initial investments but it's well worth it in the end.

I was looking for an activities club and I stumbled upon Events & Adventures. I went on their website and signed up for an event. I picked one of the first events that I was interested in and it was a pretty easy process to sign up. I was curious to see how it would go and there was a little bit of nervousness because I didn't know anybody. But I've been a member since May 2008 and I have been hosting events for them since April 09.

One of the events that I like is trampoline dodge ball. We get together at a trampoline park and then we have a court reserved for us. It's a good workout and we usually go for roughly a couple of hours, and then we get pizza and get to socialize a bit. I tend to like the more activity-oriented events because it's easy to at least have something to talk about with people. I've been to a lot of hikes. I've done a lot of hiking with Events & Adventures and I've led a number of them myself where we'll meet up at a common location like a park-and-ride, and then well go to a trail head and hike together in a group, and then go out to lunch afterward. I've done some pretty exotic stuff too like paragliding. There's a company we work with and they teach us the basics, and then we go to the top of a mountain and we run off the edge of the cliff and then go soaring around for 15 to 20 minutes.

There's a lot of room for adventure and just experiencing new things all over the place. I've made new friends. People I have met through the club have been an integral part of my social life in general. And my girlfriend of about two-and-a-half years now, I met her through the club as well. Being a member of the club helped me expand myself socially as well as being able to go and know where things are. In fact, I feel like it really has helped me in a lot of ways. I'm happy with my time with the club and I would certainly recommend to anybody who is looking to get out and meet people to consider joining. It has been a fun way to grow as a person and meet people.

I was interested to join Events and Adventures to make new friends with single people. I was really nervous signing up because I didn't know what to expect because obviously, I don't know anybody. When I got there, I'm not used to seeing a lot of people so I got kind of overwhelmed when there was like 30 people that showed up. But it changed very quickly once people started talking to me and I started talking to them, then I felt very comfortable. I got in like 10 minutes and we were like all talking to each other and making new friends already. One of my favorite events is the paintball at night where we actually rented out a paintball area. We went to a bunch of different arenas. We're playing paintball for like three hours or so and we keep changing teams and shooting each other with paint and talking.

I made a lot of friends, more like acquaintances, but no significant other at Events and Adventures. E&A offers a great opportunity for guys to meet women in the group. Overall, it's a great experience for anybody that's single to go out there and try to meet new friends or to find someone. Everyone is very nice and very generous, just like helping each other out.

What I liked most about Events & Adventures is the interaction with other individuals in the same situation as I am. I was excited with my first event. My very first event was a movie, so there wasn't a lot of interaction. We had an after event. We went to the bar, had a drink, sat and chatted. Usually, a much smaller crowd than going to a movie. But my second event was miniature golf, and that was a lot of fun because there was a lot of interaction. With E&A I gained both new friends and found a significant other. E&A is like the land of misfit toys but everybody who's there wants to be there. But overall, it's fun to meet and get to do a lot of different things that you don't normally get to do.

I've been to some 200 events. I regularly go to volleyball on Wednesdays and absolutely love it - I never got the opportunity to play in high school. I actually joined a couple of leagues with some friends I had made in the club because we enjoyed volleyball so much. I've met a bunch of the best girlfriends I've ever had and I’m actually living with my boyfriend who I met in the club. We've been together for about a year-and-a-month, going on two. I like the endless unique activities we get to do like dog sledding to skydiving to just movie nights. You can’t find that kind of variety in other places. I try and bring coworkers all the time and any new friends that I meet outside of the club.

That made the interviewer very uncomfortable. I will go over all of the details in a private response to your comment. If member interviewers feel uncomfortable they are instructed to not let that person join the club for the safety of the other members. The process when I signed up for the first event is you go in and get interviewed. Before arriving at that first event I was very nervous, but that changed soon after. April’s wonderful and the first couple of people I met there were just really friendly and easy to talk to. After that I’ve been to tons, about five a month for a year.

I went on the New York trip in December. And that was a lot of fun. Camping is one of my favorite events. I signed up for the Memorial Day camping trip, and I'd like to be able to go skydiving again, and the obstacle challenge...I had such a great year because of all the friends that I've made. Events & Adventures seemed appealing because I'm from out of town. I moved around a lot. I don't have a family. I'm at an age where a lot of people who are older, they're either married or in relationships and it's hard to hang out with people your age. They told it was a group of adults; young, single adults were not all young and we do different things in the Bay Area. That was appealing to me because I haven't seen the Bay Area. I haven't had time. I don't really want to do those things on my own, I like to do it with people.

The process is you go in. Basically, you have a screening interview. They want to see if you're the right person for this group. They asked my background and asked me to list what I want to get from this group. They set you up, and have a calendar after that. Then, you go online and sign up to whatever event you want to go to and you have the option to carpool. I didn't go to my first event for a couple of months because my brother passed away. My first event was a hike in Stanford Dish. I went to the hike and like the host. She made me feel welcomed. I talked to people about a lot of things. One of the people I met on that hike is still a friend of mine. It was good.

If you're going there for dating, I wouldn't give it a very high recommendation. But if you're going there to have fun and hang out, it's highly recommended. Overall, since I'm a host now, at Events & Adventures, sometimes getting to the event is the adventure - sometimes it's events and "misadventures". Sometimes, things don't go the way you planned. But we all signed up and were all ready to hang out and we make the best out of it. It's been a good experience.

When I moved to Seattle in 2005, I figured that I'd be able to make friends the way I always had: by starting school or a training program with a bunch of other people. Instant friends, right? Except this time, I moved here by myself. All my friends and family were at least 3,000 miles away, and all of my coworkers were married with small kids. My boss mentioned some activities club she had heard about on the radio, and with a little help from the interwebs, I found Events and Adventures. I sent in an email, got a call back, and scheduled my interview.

I met Barb, who interviewed me, and she gave me the usual spiel - how many activities there were, what great people were in the club, and how she'd made tons of friends in the club. I was interested, but halfway through signing up for the 3-year deal, I got cold feet and asked if I could change to the 1-year deal. Not a problem, she said, and started the paperwork over. I still walked out of there worried that I had just joined some kind of cult.

But, being the intrepid single I was, I started going to events. One thing I noticed right away is that, at every single event after the first one, I saw someone I knew and someone I didn't. This gave me a sense of familiarity, while also getting to meet new people every single time. Some people I clicked with, some I didn't. But the events gave me a chance to meet new people, meet up with people who were becoming friends, and try new things I would never do on my own (me, whitewater rafting and camping? Hey, I tried it, and it was fun!).

In my experience, people who join to do fun activities and to meet new friends are happiest with E&A. Those who join purely to find someone to date are often not as happy. Right from the get-go, it's made clear in the interviews that E&A is not a dating service...it's an activities club for singles. As a testament to my experiences in E&A, I'll share this:

I was talking with my boyfriend (whom I met through E&A) about my upcoming birthday (and it's a big one this year). As we put together a guest list that would fit in our little house, I realized that without E&A, I would never have met 80% of my guest list, let alone the wonderful guy who was offering to throw the party. I have made amazing friends, met the most amazing guy I've ever known, and established a wonderful network here in my transplanted home. E&A didn't turn out to be the cult I expected it to be, but joining ended up being one of the best decisions I've ever made.

I've been a member of E&A for over 4 years. I liked it so much, I volunteered as a member-host for over 2 years of that membership. I've talked to lots of members, both satisfied and dissatisfied. Here are some of my experiences:

The members who are the most satisfied are the ones who invest in the club. They make an effort to go to events. Some as many as 2-3 a week (I used to average 2-3 when I wasn't in a relationship). Not all events are tailor made to you, and not all are in your backyard, but most are worthwhile. They try to meet people, not just the "pretty" people, or the people in their age bracket, but all of the people. Network, and you'll find that everyone has at least a few common experiences. Some of my best friends now are friends of other members I met because I wasn't afraid of being friends with people who were older than me.

Among the dissatisfied people reviewing here, I see a few common themes. Many feel scammed because they paid money and didn't magically become surrounded by hot rich people. Many only went to one event. Guess what? That service doesn't exist for any price. My guess is that these are the same people who buy a membership at LA Fitness, go to the gym once, don't go again all year, then demand that they should get their money back because they don't have an amazing body. You have to invest in the gym to get results. You have to go, and you have to try.

As far as locations of events, most clubs are in big cities. The event planners try to balance events across the city. I live in Seattle, and each week there is pretty much one event in Tacoma or other south end cities, one event in Everett or another north end city, one event in Bellevue or somewhere on the east side, and a couple events downtown, because that is where most of the good bars, theaters, etc are. This is to try to ensure that there is something for everyone. Events outside of downtown tend to have lower attendance, so having them often takes away from other possible events. Still, the events planners try to do their best to make as many people happy as possible.

As far as age goes, I mentioned above that it is ok to make friends outside of your age bracket. E&A is open to everyone 21+. That means that sometimes you will go to an event with a bunch of 25 year olds, and sometimes a 75 year old will be there. That is life. Some events, like dancing at a nightclub will tend younger, because those are the people who tend to show up. Others, like a night at the opera, will likewise tend older. You can get a feel for events. The number one complaint from young people is that there aren't enough young people, but the same complaint is there for the 40-50 year olds. If everyone is complaining, maybe it's just perception bias and people just like to complain.

Believe it or not, but the club does screen members. There are very few alcoholics and no heavy drug users in the club. The price tag helps discourage them. Some people are a little socially awkward. Many join to help become less so. Should we shun them in their efforts? Most will be grateful and become long lasting loyal friends. Should we discourage these people from pursuing happiness?

Again, I don't work for E&A, but I've volunteered as a member host. I met my wonderful girlfriend and her two amazing kids through the club. Nearly everyone I know today is either a member, former member, or friend of a member (yay networking). I'm a lifetime member, and I payed about $4000 for my membership, but I wouldn't change my experience for anything. Worth every penny.

As a member of Events and Adventures I am very pleased that I made the decision to join. My goal in joining the group was to widen my social circle and just have fun with a group experiencing a wide variety of activities, which is exactly what I found. I've made friends there who will always be part of my life. Many of the activities I've participated in are ones I would have probably never tried on my own, such as white water rafting, kayaking, hiking, etc. A great time was had attending all of the activities - I can't think of one bad experience - and what makes it great are the people you meet. For me personally it was a life changer and to anyone who wishes to get out of the house and out of the daily grind of home to work to home again, making friends and having great experiences along the way, I would heartily recommend giving it a try. I've never regretted joining, and in fact think it was one of my best decisions.

I have been to Australia/New Zealand & hiked Machu Picchu last year with single people from across the country because of E&A. I feel at home with this group and all the members so far have been fun and adventurous.

I heard a lot of radio advertisements about Events & Adventures before I actually contacted them. I just called their number directly and made an appointment to go in and meet with somebody in the office. They wouldn't talk about the price over the phone. So you had to wait till you go into the office to determine what the membership fee is and how that works; whether it’s a monthly fee or a one-time fee. They won’t discuss that at all. And once I got in there, they let you know what the options were and that there were different lengths of time you could sign up for and so forth.

I usually go to about five events a month and I've been a member for about three years. My favorite event is volleyball. I know it’s dumb, but how often are you going to get in the middle of the winter 24 people playing volleyball on a Tuesday night? I mean, it’s kind of awesome. I've had a great experience. I found that there’s a large variety of events. There’s usually really great people. They’re friendly, socially adept. I just had a wonderful, wonderful experience and there’s always something to do. Even if it’s every night of the week, if you want to go out and do something, there’s something happening that you can go do.

I have made new connections. That’s actually been one of my primary means of meeting friends. I’d been in California for three years as a teacher. I didn't really meet many people because I worked with children. And ever since joining the club, I now have a large circle of friends - really professional, articulate, well-spoken and just great people. I've been very blessed. I have nothing bad to say. It’s all good. My life felt healthier as a result. I’m happier and I've had a lot of fun getting to know the area. Really, I can’t say how much I’m glad to get this here in California, and I was able to join. It’s been a blessing in my life. So thank you!

Events and Adventures is a really great thing!!! I have been in the club a couple of years and last year I met my now fiance. I would have never of met a great, amazing, sweet, wonderful man if it wasn't for Events and Adventures. What I like most about it is that, it is not a dating service. It is just a way for singles to meet and do fun stuff and if something is meant to be, then it will be. I am not sure why people who go to one event are so shut down. Maybe they don't know how to relax and go with it. Anyways, I recommend Events and Adventures to anyone who is single and is open minded and who likes to have fun!

I heard about Events and Adventures over the radio. I got interested because you make a lot of friends and that you go out and do different things every day of the week. Around that time I was thinking that I needed to find out more things to do in Chicago, so I made a call, signed up and just jumped in, head over heels. During my first event, an actual camping trip, I was a little nervous because it was something that I haven't done in a long time. It was three days and three nights with people I've never met before. Currently I have attended well over 50 events. I signed up May 12 last year. I have made a lot of friends - over 65 people whose names I still remember - and we all keep in contact and do things outside of E&A. And I have found at least one person that I'm comfortable with that's like a little spring fling.

I really do enjoy the club. I love the fact that everybody in the club is nice and open-hearted. You don't see a likelihood of being shunned by anybody. Everybody is open to you, everybody's happy to meet you and see you. And I'm happy that we are actually making real friends. It's not like we're all together just because of the club or just because we paid a lot of money to get in. We're in because we actually enjoy each other's company and we kind of go through withdrawal if you're not at an event after a while. Once you make all these friends, it's like you just have to go and see them again.

Indoor skydiving, hot air ballooning, Seahawks' games, pub crawls, cooking events and so many other things have been a highlight for me but nothing compares to the Halloween and New Year's parties! Dancing all night long with all my new friends is so much fun! I HIGHLY recommend this club if you are ready to have fun and meet a huge network of friends. :-)

When I joined Events & Adventures four and a half years ago, I didn't know what I was getting myself into. In fact those were just about the exact words I said to myself as I walked out to my car after my initial meeting. I knew that I would start to get off the couch and doing things, but in no way did I expect to meet so many new people from as far away or with as many different backgrounds as I have. Nor did I expect the creativity of the event coordinators. I've found some gems of activities to do and done activities at locations that don't seem the fit (pillow fight on a trampoline, dodge ball court anyone?).

But the biggest thing that has come that I didn't expect was to find so many people that I would get along with, and, for some of those people to become friends for life. I've been witness to wedding proposals and been a guest to weddings with members of the club. While these moments have been special, it pales in comparison to the experiences and memories that I continue to make every time I go to an event with this club. I can say for certain that it was one of the best decisions I've ever made to sign up with this club.

I stupidly signed up for E&A yesterday evening without looking up the company to get reviews. My friends thought it would be a good way to meet people of the opposite sex. Last night once I got home from my meeting with the representative Richard ** in Santa Clara, I got online and the first thing that comes up is about E&A scams. Granted, I was skeptical when Richard told me about the costs-- $1,995 if i paid upfront, and $2,195 with payments of $116 a month, plus the $30 monthly fees. So I put down a deposit of $100. It was high, but I figured I could manage it if it's such a good time like he portrayed. He was awesome at the sale. Charismatic, showed me how to salsa dance in our meeting (he's a dance instructor as well) and also highly into fashion and things that interest me (now realizing it was probably fake). He even invited me to participate with his upcoming fashion show.

Long story short, I called this morning to speak to someone about cancelling and was told "someone will call you back as soon as possible." Keep in mind, they want to wait as long as they can to call you back because they want your 72 hour cancellation period to lapse. I have a copy of my signed contract, which says that I am required to send a written notice of cancellation to their office via CERTIFIED MAIL, with a return receipt if I want to cancel. So I called the corporate office in Seattle and a very nice girl told me that if I send it to the address mentioned in the contract, they would still have to eventually mail it to corporate anyway..so that I should just skip a step and send it directly to corporate. DONE. My letter of cancellation arrives to them tomorrow. Costed me $22!!! (small change compared to what I would pay if I hadn't seen these terrible reviews of this nasty company) They will have it less than 48 hours after I signed the stupid contract. They are open on Saturdays, and should sign for it before noon. If I have any issues here, seeing that I have followed their shady/corrupt rules...I will update my post, and proceed to wreak havoc on anyone that tries to deny me my rights. Good luck!

Got a call a few days later wanting me to pay the rest of my contract (like $15,000). I decided I'm not going to do it. So the debit card they had on file was suddenly "stolen". So anyone is having this trouble, you may want to give this a try. I figured if they really wanted to sue me for the rest of what I owed, their legal fees would far surpass any judgement they would get from me. Will keep you all posted!

I have never in my life written a complaint about a place because I just don't give them my money and keep it moving. However after what happened to me at E&A I feel I should tell my story. Like most people I heard about Events and Adventures on the radio and figured I'd check it out. I was single and just looking to get out and be more social. So I looked up the web site and filled out the form. 3 days later I got a call from them. The lady was very nice and cordial on the phone and wanted to set up an interview so that I can get to know them a little better and vice versa. I said okay and we set up an appointment. So far I was liking this more and more.

So the day for the appt comes and I go to their office which is in VA. Now I live near Baltimore so it's a bit of a drive. On the phone the lady told me that they don't have anything in Baltimore but they do have things in DC. I work in DC so I was okay with the commute. I walk into the office, sign in and this lady comes out, offers to take my coat and kindly invites me back to her office. Once in the office and all the pleasantries were said (you know how you're doing, the weather, etc, etc) the sales pitch started. It was very aggressive cause as they try to convince you why they are better than everybody else. Saying that they cater to a certain type of people. When I asked what type is that she basically said people who have established careers and are looking to find someone who financially is their equal. I'm okay with that I guess. We went over the types of events and she showed me their calendar where they seem to be doing something every day of the month. Then she had me fill out this form that asked about my bank account, how much I have in savings, how many credit cards I have and what's the balance. Now I make pretty good money but I'm not telling them what's in my account so I gave her some arbitrary number.

So finally we get to the prices. They wanted $3795.00 for a 3-yr contract and $1795.00 for 1 year. Wow. I was prepared to spend some money but I was not prepared for that much. On top of that you have to pay a $30 monthly fee and some events you still have to pay a small additional fee. After telling her that although I make good money I wasn't comfortable with spending almost $2000.00 for 1 year doing things that quite honestly I could do for free. She go offended and we bartered for a few minutes and she cut it down to $1500 for a year and told me she would get fired if anybody found out the discount she was giving me.

After telling her I would think about it (and I honestly was thinking about it) she hit me with her ultimate selling line. She looked me dead in the face and told me, "We need more black people (I'm African American by the way)." I was shocked. I thought it was a joke. I was waiting for her to laugh but she didn't. She continued and said that "for some reason black people don't want to pay the money." I'm looking at her like REALLY?? You're really saying this to me. I'm waiting for a camera crew to come out from under the table. She was serious. Then she topped it off by telling me that if I join then I would be the center of attention with the ladies because they don't have many minorities. Like I would become the pimp of E&A. But I wasn't looking to date anyone. I just wanted to meet people and be more social.

Needless to say I told her this wasn't for me and that I didn't want to be the token minority for their group. After that her attitude totally changed. She got very nasty and uppity. I told her that when and if I decided to date again I would look them up and she said, "No, you're not for us." I said, "Really. If I came in here with $3795.00 in cash ready to sign up you wouldn't take it??" She said, "Nope, you're not the right fit for us." She didn't even walk me to the door. I had to let myself out. This club seems very elitist for my taste and quite honestly they charge way too much money for something you can do on your own. Never again.

This was an awful experience for me. I had my doubts about the company to begin with, but was told that I would be given a 6 month trial time before signing a year contract, but was completely misled. When I tried to cancel my membership after 3 months they said that I had signed up for a year contract with an added 6 months free on top of it, which is totally not what I had agreed to and confirmed my doubts. If I had any doubts to begin with why would I want to sign up for 18 months?! It's worse than the phone companies! They trick you into signing up for a year or two then when you want to cancel, they charge you the remaining amount in a block charge! I don't have the schedule to go to more than one or two events each month, and for $135/mo that's so not worth it.

The events coordinators are nice and try to accommodate as much as they can, but in the end you're still stuck paying every month for a service that was frankly not worth it. The people in attendance are nice, a little on the awkward side, but it's to be expected from a business centered around making friends and meeting people, plus I'm not a social butterfly either. I moved to the bay area about a year ago and have found more friends online than at this club. This has been an ongoing problem for me these past 3 months; calling, redirected, sending a written letter to their office in Washington. It's been a real hassle and on top of it, it has caused overdraft fees in my bank account. The fact that I was not given a copy of the contract I signed, but just a general brochure of their policies, doesn't help since I can't even verify the exact contract that I signed.

They refuse to give me a refund for the few months that I haven't been using their services and have been trying to cancel my membership and their only advice for me is to "pay for the rest of the year and continue going to events." Well, I sure as hell don't want to go to any events anymore because it would be an ongoing reminder of their awful customer service and the lying that I endured. I also don't even have the money to pay for the service since I am only working part time, yet because of their automatic payments am continued to be billed. Needless to say, I will be cancelling that account and continue to fight their misleading contract and policies for my money back.

She then called the Houston Police Department and an Office ** arrived and stated, the "manager" would like for me to leave. Being single in NYC isn't easy and my cousin (from Florida) heard about E&A on the radio. While we were on the phone chatting, we googled it and found they had an office in NY. It sounded like fun and I called to inquire. They refused to give me information over the phone as far as cost or the type of people that joined, and pretty much told me that if I wanted to know, it was mandatory I had to go in to interview. Now, being a woman that has tried online dating and met every NY perv in a 10-mile area, I actually thought participating in these types of events would be safer and upscale (I'm still LMAO!!! )

I trekked for well over an hour all the way to Long Island on a Saturday morning. They made me interview with 2 people. Jodi was my account manager. She did everything possible to make E&A sound like the best thing I would do for myself being single in NY and how 'safe' it was as they interview ALL their clients. After a LOT of negotiating, she went down from $3000 for a year to $1800. She swore there were a 'ton' of events in NYC (BIG LIE). Then she told me there were hordes of people my age (oh, look, another LIE), and that in no time I'd have tons of girl friends that were single and fun (sure they are!!).

I went to maybe 7 events, 6 of them were in the end of the universe Long Island and I was mostly late to all of them since getting to LI from NYC is not the easiest with traffic. Also, the men I met at these events were a bit "off" and a lot of them uhmmm... sketchy (that's saying it mildly). I can go on for pages but the bottom line is, if you're reading this review, do yourself a HUGE favor: DON'T Sign up - it's a huge scam!! There is NO need to pay $3k to do group 'stuff', go on "meet-up" which is FREE!! Besides, I'm still trying to figure out what on earth did my $1800 (some people $3k!!) cover??

You pay for EVERY event you attend, not only that but I actually found out that I was paying anywhere from $15 to $30 MORE for my tickets/event than if I had purchased them on my own. AND I was typically the youngest person in attendance (I went to this one event where I was actually helping men and women up and down some steep steps, I was really concerned for their safety). Seriously, this really isn't worth your time or money if you're a single person looking for a partner and/or friends.

We were interviewed by 2 separate representatives in 2 different rooms. We decided to go ahead and join and I was told I could put down a deposit and pay out the rest of membership by monthly payments. But 2 weeks after I joined and during that time I was able to attend an event, I ended up having to go back in for yet another unexpected breast surgery. The 5th surgery in last year. I seem to be unable to heal properly due to the repercussions from radiation following breast cancer.

I immediately contacted the representative that interviewed me and she said that there was nothing they could do and I would have to fulfill my contract despite my medical situation. So I will be following up with a registered letter and letter from my surgeon explaining my situation and send to corporate office. I think these people are scammers! My friend and myself talked later and realized we were told such different things by the 2 different representatives about payments and prices and age groups that attend these functions! They told her that she needed to sign a contract and provide the first payment. She called me and I asked to ask the lady if she could cancel it if it did not work out. She said yes. I gave her my credit card number for payment. After I got off the phone, the lady told my daughter that if she paid for 1 year, she could get the second year free. She said okay and they charged my card for 1-year membership.

My daughter went to one event and there were people there that were three times her age. She called Events and Adventures and said that this is not what she expected and she wanted to cancel and they told her to give it some time and that they would be contacting her and letting her know which events would be more appropriate. They contacted her and she went to a few more events and then contacted them again and told them that this was not what she had expected. She requested again to cancel and they said she could not cancel. I reviewed the contract, and unfortunately you have 72 hours to cancel and that's it.

Events and Adventures is a scam as they don't explain any of this while going over the contract. They are good at sales and have a way of bypassing valuable consumer information, especially targeting vulnerable individuals. I have read the same complaint over and over by several individuals and this company is still in operation and continues to flow down the same language in their contract and nothing is done about it. I feel with all of these complaints that a class action suit is appropriate and that they also should lose their good standings with the states that they are doing business with.

I am also very upset and disappointed by this company. When I first moved to Florida in 2011, I was completely alone and had no friends. I was also working nights, which made it very hard to go out and find things to do. I heard about this club on the radio and got very excited. I was 26 at the time. The interview was fun and upbeat, and I couldn't wait to get started. I'd just gotten a new high-paying job, so I wasn't too worried about the price (they don't mention your monthly "dues" in the price!!!!). I signed up for a 3-year membership because it was the most "cost effective." Over $3,000!!! I've been to about 5 events and every time all the people were about twice my age!!! Also, I found it very clique-ish and had no one to talk to. Over two years later they are still charging me over $80/month and have threatened with collections once when I changed my card information.

My biggest complaint is that during my interview, they told me very specifically that cohabitating was NOT allowed for members, and that if at any point I got a boyfriend and we moved in together, I could just show proof of cohabitation and they'd cancel my membership. I moved in with my boyfriend over a year ago, and when I called them to cancel they said it wasn't a valid reason! How do you have a club "exclusively for singles" when they're living with their boyfriend/girlfriend? Now they say the only way to cancel is to show a marriage license or proof of moving over 100 miles from the nearest club. Also, I will note that I recently joined Meetup.com and have had more fun at their FREE events than at anything coordinated by E&A.

Sales person talk young adults in committing to a contract. When service is poor, they talk them into staying on until they can't cancel (3days allowed). On August 05, 2013, my daughter entered into a contract with Events and Adventures. Originally they talked her into a month to month payment. She asked me, her mom, to provide a credit card. I asked her to ask them if she could cancel if she went to events and did not like them. They said yes. I agreed. After the call they told her that if she signed up for a year she could get a year free. So she thought that was a good idea. They presented the contract to her and then pointed out three places for her to sign. At the time of signing, Events and Adventures did not explain that she could only cancel if she had not attended an event and it had to be within 24 hours or 3 business days (liable for $400).

She called them after two events and stated that she is being sent to events where people are twice her age and up and she was not happy with the service. They told her to be patient and they will give her other events that will be in line with her age. They knew that by convincing her to hang in there that her cancellation grace period would be over and she would not be allowed to cancel. She went to a few more and it was all the same. Events where people were older than her. She told her that this was not working out and they told her she could not cancel. They charged my credit card $2,355.00. I have contacted them several times and they are not willing to cancel. Matter of fact, they charged my credit card another $38.00 for an event that my daughter signed up awhile ago but did not attend. They stated that they have a sign in sheet and she signed in. She did not go to that event because she was with me. I have asked them to produce that roster and as of today, they have not provided it.

So in summary we have a company that is compelled to point young adults to certain aspects of the contract, convince them to sign up for 2 years because of the discount they receive and tell them they can cancel if they are dissatisfied. Not sure how they can cancel if they dissatisfied with the service if they don't attend one and then when they express their dissatisfaction they are again talked into being patient so that the days go by that causes the consumer no way out of the contract. We may not get our money back but this company is taking advantage of people seeking a relationship (vulnerable individuals) to gain business success.

Additionally, I was told the interview was recorded so what was said would be recorded and what I know after discussing this with my daughter, nothing was recorded. I highly suggest that the BBB just Google this company and you will see that my daughter is not the only one that has issue with this company. There are several complaints about this company and had I seen the contract ahead of time, I would have advised my daughter not to sign this contract. It is unfair for a consumer to be under such restricted cancellation contractual requirements that does not allow for cancellation and reimbursement of this kind of expense. I am so upset about how this company operates and most likely the pressure they put on their sales group that I am ready to go to 60 minutes to air this so that others are cautioned in doing business with this company.

I signed up for membership after my interview...I think I got carried away by the lady who interviewed me and made it sound like such an exciting club. I was new to the city and wanted to make friends. After I went home, I logged onto their website and saw that most events were paid and were either in the suburbs or were not at a convenient time for me with my work schedule. So I sent them a registered letter within the stipulated time in my contract. I even received a confirmation letter from their office saying that they had received the letter and will forward to it to their head office. That was more than 2 months back in July. I'm still waiting for my refund and have sent several emails and also called up several times to talk to the lady who deals with the refunds. Every time, they give me some excuse about the delay and promise that I should get it back by the next week. I would not recommend anyone to join this club. Once you join it, it’s hard to get out of. Meetup groups are free and way better!

I moved here last year not knowing anyone so I thought I would see what this Events and Adventures was all about. I always hear advertisements on the radio so one day I thought... What the heck, why not? After paying all that money you have to pay for each event... rarely is anything free. Even some events that should be free are not. What is this money for? I have no idea! And the people there are NOT quality singles! It is true... the people in this club are "odd and creepy". Most are older too. I can see why they don't let you try an event for free. If I would have I'd have run for the hills! I really wish I'd done more research into this company before forking over 2 grand. I have not been to anything in almost a year! Events and Adventures has called me several times to make an appt to come. I was always hesitant because I live 90 minutes (on a day without traffic) to their nearest office. I took a half day at work (lost $) to travel on a Saturday to the address given to me. I called their office 15 minutes prior my appt to let them know that I might be 5 minutes late. I didn't want to be inconsiderate. They replied, "Oh, that's totally fine because they are actually behind schedule anyway." Fact was that I was not late, but did not see the office once at destination. I called the number I was given and the woman who answered did not live local, so she told me to wait where I was and she'd have them call me.

Instead of waiting, I drove up and down the street. Time was now 3:15 pm (apt @3 pm). I finally see the office and as I'm pulling in I get their call. Woman says, "Yeah, I hate to be the one to tell you this, but she can't wait." I said, "What? I just drove over 90 minutes!" She replies, "Yeah, but they shoulda told you the last appt was at 3."

Me: "Okay, but I'm here, and you told me they were running late anyway." Them: "Well, she just can't stay. She actually forgot her 'palm' and can't even do your appt." Me: "So, I just drove 90 minutes to a place where I'm unfamiliar on Labor Day weekend, and you're not going to see me?" Them: "Sorry."

I'm just shocked, and tell them I'm going to write to consumer affairs. She doesn't care one bit. I could understand if I was more than 15 minutes late, especially if I did not call prior my appt... But this is horrible! I wasted almost 4 hours on Labor Day weekend, as well as lost money at work to be treated like trash. Most obnoxious and inconsiderate business ever!

I was golden and treated humanely at the start of my appointment until I didn't plunk down money. Then I was spoken to like trash. How awful to be treated like trash when I never did anything to that awful representative or the Events and Adventures company. The representative additionally was racist making a comment about a previous meeting with a black man stating he "didn't fit". She and I are both with white skin. I suppose she assumed I shared her perspective. I did NOT. Was it because of his skin or because he saw right through her as the empty, superficial and manipulative person she behaved like.

I asked to speak to a manager or supervisor after my ugly experience and was contacted by no one - NOT A SOUL! As a result, I insist NO ONE waste their time with this low class company using base and degrading techniques to sell that even a used car dealer wouldn't be caught dead practicing... I think Meet up has it all over this despicable group of banal individuals as they play greedy, hurtful games and make repulsively discriminatory comments. I only "fit in" while there was chance I would put my name on a contract the very same half hour. I didn't, but I might have when my teacher's salary started back AND had I been treated with respect (not even close!). I stated that I required time for my pay checks to start back again, but the nasty representative then insisted I didn't fit in. Her tone turned to nasty as I was heading toward the door pulling papers from my hand. Those are papers I wished I kept as these people are NOT to be trusted with anyone's personal information including address, phone number and income range and I want those papers returned to me and any evidence of my presence there eliminated. Who would wish to "fit in" with such a base company that offers nothing so special and are downright mean.

I am a single mother of one and have found on-line dating to be difficult. I thought joining Events and Adventures would be good because you are attending events specifically designed for singles. I wish I would have read the reviews before I wasted my time and money to travel into Manhattan for my "interview." Don't go - save your money. The cheapest package was just about $1,800 per year, and that DID NOT include the events. Each event you attended you had to pay separate. I asked if I could even attend one event to see how I liked it and the woman told me no. She did however offer me a $400 discount if I gave her my credit card right then and there.

The majority of the events took place in Manhattan and not in New Jersey so that would also increase my out of pocket expenses to join. As soon as the woman realized I had no intention of giving her my credit card, she basically dismissed me and lost interest in anything I had to say there afterward. Such a waste of time!

The only reason I gave this one star was because I had to click at least that to be able to submit my review. Otherwise it would receive zero stars. I first heard about this organization on the radio and decided to see what it was about. I called and left a message and they called me back within a few hours to schedule an interview. The person on the phone was very pleasant and explained why they have everyone come in for an interview, it's to screen people. I remember thinking that was great! Well, my "interview" was today, and needless to say it was not a pleasant experience.

Within the first two minutes I was being asked questions about previous relationships and dating habits (for an organization that claims not to be a dating club, they were asking a lot of questions about my past "dating" life). The salesperson who claimed to be the director (I didn't believe her) kept saying that she only takes on 50% of her clients. She also kept saying that "if she took me on as her client" she would do this, this, and this for me, as if she were doing me a favor! She then preceded to belittle me several different ways: by telling me that my previous relationships weren't healthy because they weren't long enough, that online dating (which I had done previously) was a stupid way to meet men and a way of finding a child rapist, and the kicker "do you want to be my age and still single?"

Then she hit me with the price: $1900 per year for membership! Events aren't even covered under that price! When I made a big deal about that being a lot of money (which it is), she said that she could offer me $1000 for six months. I couldn't even leave and think about it. I had to make the decision right then and there because if I didn't and decided to come back, it would be $3200 for the year. Needless to say I left, disgusted and angry, but very glad I didn't sign up.

Please, take it from me and do not waste your time. Anybody that bullies you into feeling bad about yourself to join their expensive "club" isn't worth your time.

Some woman from Seattle called me and asked me a million questions. I asked about the event - NO RESPONSE; I asked about fees - NO RESPONSE. Instead I was asked to be INTERVIEWED for their "private club". I've read the reviews and everything I read was the same craziness I was told on the phone - "I'm perfect for their club". That was certainly a RED FLAG when I asked a question and SHE ABSOLUTELY REFUSED to answer. What is there to hide? I was asking about volunteering for a faith-based organization event.

I'm highly disappointed that KLTY is promoting this company. It is shameful. This company seems to go against anything honest and moral. I will try and find out how to volunteer without joining a company that only wants to scam me out of my hard-earned money. I sincerely hope you look into this further and I'm sure you can find MANY other people who can tell you the truth about this company. The Seattle lady sent me an appointment time for this weekend, but I'm going to do the right thing and decline, which I think that makes "ineligible" for their "private club". I read the review that it costs $3000. I would rather pay my bills with that money than to give it to some scam artists.

Like all the people on here, I myself had gone through a horrific breakup and was trying to figure out a new way to meet people. After hearing repeated advertisements on my local radio station, I finally went in for an "interview". The lady worked me up like a pro, went straight for my triggers and got me to an emotional puddle. So when she threw the membership at me, it almost felt like a lifeline. I had earned entrance and they were "here" for me. Well, not two days later, I realized that the events were not "free" and many of them are pay as you go or pay for your own meal. Folks - that isn't free. I work in marketing and that is what a boss of mine call "marketing license", frequently.

Realizing I had made an error, I continued to call the corporate office to be told they were moving and nobody could help me. Surprise! Three days were now gone. The local office with the crazy lady called me up today to inform me that I was not entitled to a refund and the state does not require them to give a refund. Who on earth conducts business in this manner? My father, God love him, tried to help me only to be hung up on. My bank is involved but I don't expect to get a refund. They know where their loopholes are and have buried them under laws and loopholes. No legitimate business conducts itself this way. I wish I had googled more effectively and found this sooner.

The State of Georgia should do better on its due diligence to protect us, the consumers. They have left us vulnerable to people like this who abuse the law and loopholes to make way too much money off emotionally vulnerable folks like everyone else who has posted here. Do not ever sign anything! Read every line and understand all of it before handing over your card to these jokers! I haven't attended one event yet because they made me feel so slimy. You misrepresented on many counts what I would be getting for my fiscal payment to you and are in breach of contract. I am requesting that you rescind my contract and refund my initiation payment.

Both you and the telephone screener repeatedly stated how every member was carefully screened for criminal and financial history, yet Section d states E&A does not normally conduct any investigation whatsoever into any members, professional, criminal or financial history and has no duty to conduct any such investigation. When you immediately welcomed me into the club as soon as I signed the contract, I specifically questioned how I could be in the club already as I have not had a background check. You said you would be doing it the next couple of days and could refund my fee if something came up. I have checked and no such investigation of me occurred.

The E&A site specifically states, "Welcome to the World's most exciting social club for singles." You reinforced that by saying how great it is to walk into an event where you knew everyone was single like you. This was a major decision point for me, yet on my 1st E&A event, a woman brought a friend who was living with her boyfriend. I also approached an older gentleman who said he had been in E&A for a year and now was not. He was very distancing, and later, he appeared to be a date of the host.

My 2nd E&A event was canceled, which was only disclosed to me less than 24 hours before the event. I missed out on other opportunities outside of E&A because they had filled up by the time E&A informed me of the cancellation. My 3rd E&A was a dinner event. I looked forward to meeting people in a setting that allowed for conversation and getting to know people. The event started at 7:30. Several of the men were eating before we were seated. It ended up they left within an hour after the event began.

On the date of my 4th E&A event, which was canceled within 10 hours of my attending and again, I missed out on two different non-E&A social opportunities because of the late cancellation. Additionally, this 4th E&A event invited couples and singles. I left a message and email inquiring as to why that was the case. I have a voice mail recoding that explains that people who met and now were dating were welcome to attend E&A events.

Rather than gain social opportunities via E&A, the organization has decreased my opportunities in the very limited time I have to optimize them by canceling 50% of my events. I am also sending this by Certified Mail/Return Receipt Requested to the E&A office in Santa Clara where I went into contract.

I was recommended to this place by a friend who must not have known yet what a big scam this company is. But since I trust my friends, I went into my interview trusting this company also. I was told most of their events are free and that I would be paying $100 a month for a year membership. I thought this was pricy but considering I would get to do a lot of cool events for free maybe it would be worth it. I found out shortly later that the only events that are free are things like going to a bar and not getting anything. Most of the events are actually more expensive than if you went on your own. For example, going to an IMAX movie with them costs $20 while tickets at this particular theater are $13. They justify it by saying it comes with pizza but $7 per person worth of pizza? I don't think so.

Even some events that would be free on your own cost money. It costs $5 to go to a beach bonfire and you have to bring your own food. They justify this by saying that the wood costs money, but if they have about 30 people there, that is $150 and there is no way they spent over $20 on wood. Then a few days ago, I found out that there was an initiation fee on my account that costs $1,200! So instead of being $1,200 total like I thought it is $2,400. The guy at my interview told me point blank it was $1,200 for the whole membership.

I requested a copy of my contract be sent to me as I thought I would have read it more carefully than that but I am worried. I'm not like most members who have a lot of money. I am livid that this company has a good reputation. Sure what they are doing is technically legal but there is no way that a company that behaves this way should have a good reputation. Be specific that you wish to cancel your membership. You do not have to offer a reason.

Events and Adventures Scam - I joined the scamming singles club 2 weeks ago. During my interview, the "member director" Jodi ** told me this business has a B rating with the Better Business Bureau. She went through her E&A song and dance, told me she’s giving me "a deal", and convinced me that what I’m signing for is the actual amount I’m paying. At my second event I attended, I started asking people what they pay. Everyone pays a different amount and the men end up paying less! One guy told me he knows men pay less because the club is mostly women and they want more men to join so they give them "better deals". This does not sit well with me. I went home and checked the Better Business website. This business is not accredited and they actually give them an "F" rating. I called E&A and we played phone tag for a few days, until some woman named Donna called me back.

I told Donna the nature of my call, that nobody seemed to be paying the same amount and they used reverse discrimination. She turned into a stuttering fool. She told me she will give Jodi the message since I dealt with her. Two days later, Jodi called me back and we argued back and forth. I called her out on the B rating lie, and she admitted she knows they have an F rating, which means she lied in the interview when I signed up. She claimed "it’s just one complaint". But on the BBB website, it’s 8 complaints, and now with mine, it’s 9. She claimed everyone pays the same price, and if they don’t they must have signed up when they ran "a special". What a load of garbage! She then told me, "There is nothing I can do," and "too bad". When I told her she won’t be getting a dime of my money, she threatened to send me to collections. Nice business practice, completely unethical.

I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau and the FTC, and sent emails to every TV station and forwarded them to this member director so she is aware. I am also going to be calling the local radio stations that advertise this business so they are aware. All I asked for is my agreement to be voided. I certainly do not want to be associated with a scamming business. If anyone wants to complain, do the same! Go to the Better Business Bureau and the FTC. If enough complaints go in about them, something will be done. Don’t sit back and get taken advantage by these dirtbags!

After reading many terrible reviews, I can see that this must be a learned pitch the individuals responsible for signing up members are taught. I paid a $100 deposit for my papers to be processed. I attended one event at Pub Fiction in midtown Houston. Much to my surprise, the average age of all attendees was roughly 12 years older than myself (24 at the time). The members were nice people and I stayed to have a few conversations but left about an hour after arriving. I thought this might not be the case with all members since I was told there were several thousand in Houston.

I attended a second event at the Omni Hotel bar near the Galleria. The people were different but the average age was about the same. Just to be clear, I have nothing against that. It's just that I was told there are thousands of members in my age range during my interview. The next day, I called to cancel my account and was told my account would be frozen. Thinking that would be the end of it, I was glad to be done with it. After two years of not receiving a single call or letter, I received a call from a collection agency looking for over $1500 for my delinquent account. Though this company may provide a great service for some people, the way they handle their business and the tactics they must be teaching to their reps is very fraudulent. Avoid this company at all costs. Being new to the area and rather desperate to meet people, I signed a document that I was told was a form for my background check. It turns out it was a contract for one year and the fees ended up being over $1500.

I met with a membership director in the Nashville office where I naively did not read all the information being thrown at me. When I texted them later that day to inform the woman that I was not interested, I was informed that I was not allowed to cancel my membership. I was not aware I was even in a contract. The woman had informed me that what I was signing was an agreement for them to run a background check. Never once did she discuss with me their cancellation policy, though she did explain that if I got married, the money would be prorated. The next day when I threatened legal action, the manager actually called me a 31-year old adult illiterate that had no friends. People need to know to be aware of their manipulative sales tactics and that they do not allow cancellation, especially the later. Any sales agreement requires one to discuss the cancellation policy and they do not. They actually avoid this at all cost.

Events and Adventures promises that they do background checks to make sure people with criminal records are not members, which is a lie. Being in this economic situation, I asked about their return/refund policy. They said that they are willing to work with us to see if lowering payments is feasible and if not, they will be glad to see what they can do. Of course, I insisted on a worst case scenario. And yes, if that came to happen, they will do what is necessary to keep us satisfied.

They never were upfront about their 3 day return/refund policy, the shortest refund policy I've ever heard of from any respectable company. Plus, you go into E & A to get a service you are paying for. It is not a loan! You are paying for it and if you no longer want a service you are paying for, you should be able to cancel regardless.

I spoke with their office on 2/27/12 and informed them that I left a message on 2/26/12, less than 24 hours after signing up on 2/25/12, that I wished to cancel. I did not get a call back so I called again on 2/28/12 and was told that they would send the information to the accounting department and that they would be giving me a call. When no one called back, again, I called and got the email for customer support and sent an email to cancel on 2/28/12. Three days later, when no one still returned my call, I called and Holly at Events and Adventures replied that the person was on vacation and would be processing my request upon return. Never once during three calls canceling the membership did anyone from their staff inform me that it needed to be in writing and further that it needs to be sent certified mail as I learned from Troy’s call today. Today, 3/7/12, I received a call from the sales representative Troy, stating that my account would not be credited since I had not sent the cancellation in writing via certified mail. Their agreement makes no mention of requiring it via certified mail, FYI. It only offers to send it to their office or send via telegraph. I’m not sure who you think in this day and age would send a telegraph, however. I will reasonably assume that email should more than cover this aspect of communication to cancel per California law.

I offered to fax the information on 2/27/12 and was told there was no fax number. In addition, I sent an email via the customer service contact link on the website to address this issue and cancel the contract on 2/28/12, which is within the 72-hour period. Since the office is closed on Sunday, I diligently followed up to ensure that the notice was communicated to their office upon the opening on Monday morning. I have the phone records of the calls as well as email communication from Holly stating that they received the information. Again, she made no mention of needing the notice in writing. In fact throughout the process, I have communicated with them via email and phone calls so I feel that I am in full compliance in this regards as I did cancel in writing and in fact they acknowledged that they received the cancellation notice. When I met with Troy, he showed me a sample of the types of activities and said that it was representative of upcoming events in the area. I explained that my location on the peninsula was in between the San Jose location and the San Francisco location and specifically asked if there were activities in the area near Redwood City and he said yes, there’s a lot over 300 per month. I have printed the calendar of events and can verify there are no 300 events nor are any in the area as I was told. In fact at this time there are only 4 events on the calendar for the upcoming month!

I was not able to view the actual events until I signed up, and upon returning from signing up, I found that in fact there are no scheduled events in this area. The events that are listed are at least 45-90 minutes away or more given the times and Bay Area traffic. I then determined that this was not a good fit, so that is the reason for my cancellation. This is a poor sales tactic to say the least and very misleading for a consumer. I certainly hope that they train their employees in handling cancellations as well as train their sales personnel to actually attempt to see if there are actual events that would meet a prospective member’s needs. In fact, why would you want to engage customers who would be unable to attend events based on location? When the salesperson called today, instead of customer service, he was rude and unprofessional and argumentative and insisted that it needed to be certified mail only, which is not part of the policy regarding cancellation nor is it noted in the membership agreement. This is obviously an attempt to be paid his commission on the sale and I do not appreciate being lied to or bullied, which is how he came across. I’m sure that this is not the experience that they would want their prospective clients and members to have. I also have a witness who overheard the call on speaker on my car phone and was appalled at his demeanor. I further want to mention that this woman is someone who was interested in this club and lives in San Francisco so she might be able to attend events easily.

On Sunday morning after leaving the message to cancel, I contacted Bank of America, to stop the charge and they told me it was in process so they could not stop it. I have a reference number of the call and have contacted them for assistance with the refund process through their consumer fraud division. They will be calling Events and Adventures to discuss. In addition, I have filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau regarding this company’s practices as it relates to misrepresentation. I hope that they will do the right thing with regards to the refund. However, I am fully prepared to file in small claims court based on ample documentation of my numerous attempts to cancel the membership within 72 hours.

I became a member and met the terms of my contract. I fully paid for the contract and was told I would be a lifetime member. In July, I had requested to have my membership to be held due to school/work. I was not charged while I was on a hold status. Out of the blue, I am charged for December and January. I received my statement and attempt to access the website to find out. I was completely blocked from logging in. I emailed the main person I normally have contact with in January. I was referred to Susan **, Member Services Coordinator. She did not return my phone call in January. I sent another email to this fact and finally heard back from her.

There were several emails back and forth in February attempting to find out why I was being charged if I was on hold. First, they told me that the months I am on hold will be added to the end of my contract. I told them my contract was already fulfilled. Then, I was told about my charges which supported my stance to begin with that I was not charged while on hold. I inferred that somehow I was taken off hold since the charges are automatic on my credit card and asked about a credit or refund.

I was told I did not qualify for one, and on a phone conversation, Ms. ** was rather rude and condescending to me. She flatly refuses to acknowledge any error on their part and said after the fact that I was required to give an end date to the hold. I told her I was not told of this and expect a refund. She refused. I also told her it is unjust to charge me the monthly fee and yet I still have no access to the website and the events calendar. She refused to give me her supervisor contact information or name and said there would be no refund. I am seeking redress with my credit card company for the fraudulent charges to my account without any services provided for that time.

I dated one of the male members to only find out he has made his way through many of the female members. This man happens to be a "lifetime" member. There is also a lot of juvenile behavior (rumors, back stabbing, and meddling) and cliques. Also, they don't do any kind of background checks and/or screening of their members. I wouldn't recommend this organization to anyone. Save your money!

I have submitted my cancellation letter today. It was notarized, faxed and FedExed to the office. I called and they have received my fax but no return phone call. I was told the payment I made that day was for the first month pay and interview fees, understood. Speaking about all the parties they throw and how exciting it was to be part of them is the biggest lie anyone can ever tell. After a week or two was the holidays and I had still not heard from them about anything, realizing that you have to pay for all the events on their websites. I thought, this wasn't what I have paid for. I still have yet to go to any of the events.

I wrote them the written later stating I needed to cancel my membership with them due to some troubled times and was notified that I could not do so. Now having to pay $2000 to cancel my contract, why should I have to pay if I didn't even attend any of their events? These people are legally scamming people right in front of everybody and why isn't our justice as a human being notice this and put it to a stop? I think if we all put our heads together. But entirely, this is nonsense and our protection against this is just not there. If you have had trouble or know any more information I might not have mentioned, please email me at ***@***.com. You want your money back? I know I do. I am fired up they are getting $4,000 of my hard earned dollars. Anyway, I signed a contract for a service to pay a certain amount of money over a period of time.

Then the next day, I followed the contract and wrote a letter to get out, followed up with a few phone calls, where there was no answer, but I did leave several voicemails. All of a sudden, the cancellation period was over and my letter got returned back to me even though it was the correct address per the contract, and they said they couldn’t cancel my contract at the moment. They did offer to lower my payments until they could figure a way to cancel, so I signed a paper "in the meantime."

Finally, after over a dozen phone calls, they stopped taking money from my account; only to get a call the other day (almost 2 years later) saying they will take my unpaid account to collections. They already took $1,100 from me and are asking for $2,000 more for me to buy out of the contract. What rights do I have to cancel out without paying anymore at this point?

Just like everyone's story I was misled and mistreated. Probably some of the most corrupt and unethical people run the show and whether or not what they are doing is legal, it may be, but they mislead and misrepresent their service, have poor customer service, and if we can get enough plaintiffs to rise against them, we can make a huge difference to prevent any future victims.

I signed up on a Saturday over a 3 day Labor day weekend, went to my first outing on the very next Tuesday at a local comedy club I had visited on many occasions in the past. Our group met and our hostess Suzanne introduced herself, we were seated and the comedy show began except Suzanne would not shut up during the whole performance. She sat with her friend who did not have to pay the exorbitant rate I had and they ruined the whole evening. They stood up during the headliner's act, a clean-cut guy who was married and had a new baby who was telling jokes about being a new dad and the friend stood up and yelled, "Sign my boob!" and I am thinking, I paid $2000 to be a member of this club? I demanded my money back, but was refused. They lied about Suzanne E&A knowing her friend, duh, it was quite clear to everyone. Suzanne heckled each performer, constantly reminding the entire audience that our group was E&A, like a bunch of pathetic losers. I was so humiliated. I have been to many comedy clubs and personally know many comics and have never seen such behavior.

Suzanne could not stop talking, like she was ramped up on something, even interrupted the headliner's show to the point that she got up and stood in front of the stage, as if to say I'm obnoxious, but since I think I am so cute, I can get away with this. She actually came over and asked me at the end of the evening what I thought and I told her I was disgusted and embarrassed by her behavior. She responded that she was so sorry that I felt that way, not that she was sorry for acting like such an ***, which just pissed me off further. I did file a complaint with the BBB, which was just a waste of my time. Do not join this group!! They are nothing but scammers and liars, they tell you that they are very "exclusive" and that they "only have 2 openings right now" to everyone that comes in the door. They act like they are exclusive when all they do is get your credit report to see if you have enough charge card credit to sign up and keep paying the monthly dues, and the fee for each outing, plus your own food and drink. I was charged almost $2000 for the sign up fee, plus ongoing monthly dues which they finally quit charging me, but they refused to refund my initial $2000. Scam artists.

Being a responsible person on January 18th, 2010, I sent back all my membership information along with a letter explaining that I would like to cancel my membership.

Through a comedy of errors such as transposing the address and then the mail-room not putting sufficient postage on the package, it didn't arrive at their office in a timely fashion. I was informed by Trista (the office manager), I would still be responsible for the balance of $2,335 since I had only 3 days after signing the contract to cancel it. I could see being financially responsible if I had made the cancellation request a month or two after enrolling but it was only days! I never went to any events, and even if I wanted to, I no longer have access to any Events and Adventures information as I returned it. I pay all of my obligations when they are fair, but this is not.

Currently, I am only able to pay $10 a month. At this rate, I should have it paid off when I'm 80! I'm seriously thinking of telling them after the first of year, I am done. If they want to take me to court, it will cost them more than what the balance I owe. My credit is not the best and though I do not condone not paying your bills this will be a negative mark but I have many more pressing financial matters than a lame but highly expensive singles service! Beware and read all the fine print and ask lots of questions! It just goes to show you are never too old to learn a very expensive lesson!

I joined Events and Adventures about one year ago. After a high-pressure sales pitch, they asked what my income was. At the time, I had just gotten my first job out of graduate school and was making around $75,000. The salesperson convinced me that on my salary, the monthly dues of $180 would be completely affordable and totally worth it. It sounded like a fun organization and after years of low paying jobs it is something I could finally afford so I attended some events in the next couple of months. However, I lost my job a couple of months later. I hadn't been there long enough to collect unemployment insurance. I asked if I could discontinue my membership due to my change in financial situation. They wouldn't allow me but they lowered my payments to $50 a month and I have been paying that ever since. I have been looking forward to this month of October because it will have finally been a year since I signed the contract.

When I called to ask them to stop charging my credit card, they informed me that I still owed them over $1000. Apparently, I agreed to pay about $2000 for a year membership and there seems to be no recourse whether I like the organization or not, whether I want to be a part of it or not, whether I can afford it. To me, this just seems wrong. I don't want to contribute any more of my money to this organization. I have already spent around $1000. I haven't used their services in almost a year. I no longer want their services. I don't think this is a good way to run a business and I don't want to loose any more money to them. They are not running an ethical or honest business. There should be better protection against this kind of practice. It seems like a lot of others are frustrated by this business practice.

So I called and asked if I could cancel my membership and pay an early cancellation fee. They said no, that I was under contract to pay in full whether I continued to use the services or not and that I only had three days to cancel and those three days were up. I was also told on the interview that the only way I would not be able to attend the events and no longer be allowed to be a part of the club is if I were getting married.

Okay. In November, I purchased a home and money became tight and was hoping that the good people at Events and Adventures would make some sort of concession for me and let me out of the contract since I was not using their services and could use the extra $75 a month. They said no, they would decrease monthly payment to $50 after I asked to speak to a supervisor so I did that.

Now, I am actually getting married in November. So surely I would be able to cancel my membership now, right? No. I am apparently under contract to pay the entire amount and even if I wanted to am not allowed to attend any events! So now, I am forced to pay the contract out even though I will be married and can no longer attend the events. This was not revealed to me in the contract and was not discussed with me up front. I feel as though I was misled and in the end absolutely ripped off! I even sent the management team an email and never received a response back. I feel this to be an injustice and misleading.

I joined after a "thorough" background search which never occurred, which I thought I might need as leverage to get out of this contract if need be. After a conversation with a "member" sales associate, I was assured that this club was for me because I was new to the area and it would award me & my daughter plenty of things to do.

After bringing my daughter to 2 events that were age appropriate, I was contacted about her participation. Then I was informed that 21 was the minimum age to participate and one person could not come to > 3 events per year. The person I spoke to at the corporate office was under 21. I liked the concept but deceptive practices were used tp attain my memberhip. I found out on a kayak adventure that this is normal practice for this organization, to misrepresent themselves. A co-member related how she was called at home to "lie" about how many young people came out to events. She also stated she worked in the office for only 1 week because of their practices. I found out that many members never attend any functions after joining because of this, and they are locked into these contracts based on lies.

After I got the run-around about cancelling my membership, I checked BBB and found out the Dallas office had many complaints and the Washington office just got their status after complaints on their end. Dallas displays the BBB logo but it supposedly is only for the Washington office. I had no problems with the company until their answer about the misleading info was: you have a contract now". If you could represent us, these are $3000.00/ year contracts signed under false pretenses. I want to contact a local news broadcast but don't want to tip my hand. Also, this is a "rule" about the guests.

My intention, which I stated, was to find activities for my daughter and I. As a single parent, I can't afford to join an organization that excludes my child. And I also can't afford to spend money abitrarily and unneccesarily for a service we can't use. I am only interested in an attorney that would represent me pro bono.
