I joined eHarmony for 3 months. I never received one single match. When I inquired to eHarmony about the issue, they said it was because I didn't complete my profile. I completed every step that they told me to, other than downloading more pictures. I already had 3 pictures on my profile and the eHarmony system would not let me download any more. I asked them for my money back and they still maintained that it was my fault because I didn't download more pictures. Don't waste your money or time on eHarmony, it is a rip-off and they are what gives practicing Christians a bad name. Shame on you eHarmony! You are using God to make money and will surely be punished!

I was realistic about the distance, which was 50 miles from my zip and it gave me NO matches. Then it had a flag to say I was too restricted, so I widened that requirement. It started sending me matches from Idaho or Ohio! I'm in CA! I contacted their customer service and he told me that it was just a suggestion, so I changed it back to 50 miles. No matches for 3 months! I called customer service again to voice my concern and he said maybe there's no one around with my criteria. Well... if that's the case, then their commercials and message are a false. I will never use their service again and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone.

Please, please do not waste your time or money with this terrible dating site. It does not match anyone, it simply sends you random profiles daily, and mine were based all over the UK, with hardly anyone local to me. Did they think I had the time or money to go and meet 'Bob' from Gloucester on Tuesday, 'Brian' from Halifax on Wednesday, and 'Barry' from Kent on Thursday? The compatibility questions are a joke as well. Because I ticked I like the cinema I got sent profiles who had ticked that... such amazing coincidences - book the church!! When I entered what I absolutely did not want (men with children) that is all I got, and when I rang to complain they said 'give the computer time'. I replied 'It's a computer, it's either always going to send me profiles that don't match or it won't, and I don't want it to'.

'Give it time' came the reply again. I did, and of course, I kept receiving profiles of men who are already fathers. I did not have one date off this site, yet when I have tried others there has been nice and varied mutual interest. After my one month subscription lapsed, I telephone and complained and requested a refund, only to be told there was nothing they could do. I stated I would report them to Trading Standards for mis-selling their product. After a short silence, they said 'As a goodwill gesture we will refund half'. I took the money and ran! Please don't waste yours.

I am so glad I've read these reviews as it confirms I'm not going mad. I have unfortunately joined eHarmony on one year subscription. Basically from the start, I have been in contact with them about unsuitable matches and matches who haven't been active for over 3 months (I believe they'll remove this info soon on one of next updates). I feel cheated and defrauded by this company. When I contacted them to complain, I get told to complete my profile although it says 100% completed on it. I got told to give it time as it took weeks for some matches to reply. I'm sorry - that's rubbish - maybe a day or two but weeks?? I think not. I hope that by writing this, someone else will be saved the financial loss that I have incurred. It's supposed to be a Christian led company but I think that's a cover for a power hungry greed induced disgrace!! PLEASE STAY CLEAR OF EHARMONY.

EHARMONY IS THE BIGGEST RIPOFF EVER... DON'T GO THERE. The reasons are: You only get a max of 15 matches a day & every day at least 8-10 of them had not been on the site for at least 30 days... In other words, they had deleted their accounts. YOU CANNOT SEARCH FOR PEOPLE IN YOUR AREA. eHarmony give your matches so you have no control on who you see or try to contact. 90% of my matches lived at least 200-300 miles away or worse still in the United States (bearing in mind I'm from the north of England) & I constantly changed my settings to adjust this but to no avail. eHarmony were sending messages to people portraying to be from me.

Their "proven scientific" matching system is absolutely RUBBISH. How can answering a few questions give you that chemistry of seeing someone you like? Also the questions they ask are multi-answer so you cannot even answer the questions honestly or as you want. You cannot delete your account. There is no option to let you do this. You cannot cancel your subscription. I had to ring my bank and explain the site was a total ripoff so they would cancel any future payments they tried to take. I rang customer services several times and when I finally got through, the excuses they gave me for each complaint was pathetic. Take my advice if you're reading this thinking of joining, then save yourself a £50 a month and DON'T!!! I've tried a few dating sites but this 1 is the biggest ripoff you'll ever come across. Don't be fooled by their jazzy TV ads... It's total bull.

eHarmony does not allow you to cancel your subscription at anytime. Their contract is vague and very different than other more popular sites so don't assume you have the ability to cancel if you're not happy! I paid for 3 months and contacted customer service the day prior to my automatic renewal (there is no option on my profile to cancel and no customer service options - I actually had to google the information).

I was advised by the customer service representative, Nancy, that I actually had a 6-month contract. I needed to pay for the additional 3 months in order to cancel the membership. The customer service rep (who was very nice by the way and only doing her job) explained that I had to pay in full in order to cancel. This is a very sneaky practice by eHarmony and they should be ashamed of themselves.

The customer service rep also asked me why I wanted to cancel. I explained the men were not my type and I wouldn't date any of them. An example: I'm a city girl and love dining out, night life, etc. Why would you match me with someone who likes to sit home and fish on the weekends? Get my drift?? When I explained this, the customer service rep told me eHarmony is a personality matcher, not a dating site... Um, What? You also don't have the option to search on the site yourself. You only receive matches the site chooses for you. This could mean maybe a couple options a day or nothing at all. Stay away and keep your money.

I joined eHarmony though I could not afford it. It was a horrible service. I was matched to many people but not one match ever contacted me. I called in spring to say I hated their service and that I wanted them to delete my account. They said, "You already paid. Just let it run out." I don't use the service. I'm ill and on disability. Yesterday there was an unauthorized charge for the first of three more $40 charges. I called and told them I never agreed to an auto renewal and that I was ill and under financial stress.

They spoke in circles and claimed I agreed and they would not refund. I ask to speak to supervisor and they said they would send it to review department. Today, I got a email saying they denied refunding me the charge for six more months and even asked I could have another month for $70! I paid that amount for six months! Why would I pay the same amount for two more months of this scamming company? They would not let me talk to the department that refers renewal refunds. They blamed it all on their computer and their terms of conditions. I was crying because I'm ill and can't date and have very little money. No one cared. They only said I could send another email asking for another review.

OMG. What do I do? Can I go to my bank and get that unauthorized charge reversed? Where are the business police? They literally talked in circles and claimed they could do nothing. Do I go to my bank and ask for new debit card so they no longer have my account number? How can they get away with this practice? Who represents the consumers?

They are far worse than any free dating site out there. Not one man contacted me in six months of matches and they blamed me for not contacting them first. I am old fashioned and don't approach men. If they are matched to me by computer and reputable, why didn't anyone ever send me an email? I feel so sad that the big corporations can scam poor people and claim they have no control over their computer? Beaten down.

I created an account with no problem. Canceling is another issue. They only spoon-feed you matches daily, no access to search for myself. For a company that claims to get to know me at the deepest level, I am shocked that they don't even ask what I am looking for. The app is totally useless and is faulted in so many ways that I think it was put together by students. Even the parameters accepted by them don't work. Example: looking for someone within 60 miles. They send me profiles of what they consider matches from thousands of miles away. At 200+ dollars for just a couple of months. Really now. Don't use eHarmony.

I signed up for a year subscription with E-Harmony a little more than a month ago, and quickly realized that it was not working. My experience agrees with a lot of the other complaints on this site: very few responses and "matches" that are pulled out seemingly at random and have been inactive on the site for more than a month. I wanted to cancel my subscription before the first month was over, and so I called customer service. They said that there was nothing they could do until I paid all 3 installments, and then I could cancel but I wouldn't get the full year service; it cancels immediately. To get around that they said I could pay an extra $15 fee to convert to a monthly subscription and then cancel immediately. So in every case I have to pay them extra money just to cancel my service, and I don't even get the full period of service I paid for.

I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) and I recommend everyone do the same. In the past when I have complained to the BBB for other companies they were extremely helpful and I usually got what I wanted. E-Harmony on the other hand refuses to satisfy their disgruntled customers, presumably after seeing these reviews it's because most of their customers are dissatisfied and they know their service is crap. Their reputation as an extortion scheme should be made public, and we should probably bring a class-action lawsuit against them. It's a shame that companies can get away with this simply because it says it in their "Terms of Service".

I had been inactive on eharmony after a brief period on the site about 5 years ago. I updated my profile, and received about 5 messages. I was unable to access my messages unless I signed up for a paid membership, which I did. Mysteriously, once I paid for access to my messages they were no longer available and the individuals who messaged me were no longer on eharmony. But according to eharmony I was "just one step closer to finding love."

I actually emailed eharmony about this and they were not at all helpful. I also found that I was not getting very many matches. Eharmony told me that my parameters were too tight, so I opened them up to meeting someone anywhere in the world. I have been on the site now for two months. I have had two legitimate contacts. However at least once a week, I receive a scammer request. I have quit emailing eharmony about them as they are so frequent. I have requested an end to my membership at the end of my three months, which is coming up shortly. I will never ever have anything to do with this website again nor would I recommend it to anyone.

After already joining the site and after reading these reviews, I got very anxious about how my renewal in November was going to go. I have had issues with the site regarding matches all in far away places and had minimal contact with members on the site. That being said, I knew that another year on this site would not be for me. I promptly opted out of the auto renewal and after reading so many complaints about peoples CCs getting charged even after they opted out of the renewal, I decided to go a step further. I had the paypal option of billing on the eH site, so I hope this will help others who have used paypal to correct this injustice.

I logged on to my paypal account settings. There is a "payment preferences" option that I chose. I then chose the "manage recurring/automatic payments" option. Sure enough, eharmony was in there. I was able to click on it and change my settings from "active" to cancel. This, hopefully, will not allow eH to charge my paypal account, as I have no longer authorized paypal to give them a payment. PayPal seems to be much more of a reputable than eHarmony, so I hope this helps those of you who have used paypal from having to pay another unauthorized membership fee to eharmony. Good luck!

Once in a while I got a match from someone in my state but usually they are hundreds of miles away. Within 3 weeks I had went to their website and canceled my subscription. Today I opened my credit card statement and I was charged 170 dollars from eHarmony. I called the number on my bill and from there I got a runaround. They sent me an email saying they will not honor my cancellation and that I will be billed the full amount. Not only this but they say if I do cancel they won't even honor the remaining 6 months I was billed for. Furthermore, they say it is against their policy to reverse charges after 3 days. I never even got an email saying they charged my account. They purposely billed me in the middle of the month so that I would not see this charge for weeks after their 3 day stipulation. I am going to have my credit card reverse these charges. Stay away from these thieves!

Shortly after joining I was approached by a potential match, started communicating going through the guided communication only to find it was not the person in the profile rather someone that was working a scam using the profile as a cover. Never got any notification from eHarmony that the account had been compromised. I just assumed this was a fluke and continued in my search.

For the past three months I have had contact with 10 matches, every one of these matches has been a scam; some I have received notification that the profile, three to be exact, one profile has tried to contact me five different times under a different profile name and place of origin, same photo. I contacted the site, they claim that 90% of the matches are real, and they have no problem with scams. I would have to strongly disagree, 10 out of 10 is 100% scam. Beware, the site claims to be on the top of security giving you quality matches for a hefty price. I have canceled my subscription due to the fear of being scammed.

I realized very shortly after signing up that eHarmony was rubbish as a dating website. The matches were slow to arrive and appeared totally random. I didn't see how I was 'matched' at all, often with no pictures. I took the steps to cancel my account. I realized it would run until the end of the term I had paid for so I just kept using it, with no success - not even 1 date, for the entire year.

Then I noticed my bank statements that they had begun charging me again! I sent them an email asking them to stop and informed them I had cancelled my auto-renew. They told me that that my auto-renew was active so they had begun the process and now it could not be cancelled until all the installments had been made. So basically I would need to pay the year again in full and cancel for the next year. After they charged my account 2 times, I took the matter up with my bank and had my card cancelled to stop any future payments. This was a massive inconvenience.

So after attempting to take the final payment 7 times they cancelled my account from their end. I contacted them again via chat and said that I had paid already 2 payments so if they wanted to cancel my account they would need to give me my money back. She said this was not possible citing again the terms and conditions of auto-renewal. I said, "Then you must restore my account and give me service to the value of the money I have paid." She said she could not help me further and said I could email trust and safety if I wanted to take the matter further. What choice did I have?

I sent another email to trust and safety. Reiterating my problem and stating... "The fact remains that I have now paid more than 2/3 of my yearly subscription and my account is expired. From here there are 2 outcomes that will be satisfactory to me: 1) Give me back the money I have paid this year and leave my account expire; 2) Give me service equal to the money I have paid. 8 months? I believe the outstanding balance is only $14 so perhaps it is more like 10 months. Offering to keep the money I have paid and give me nothing in return is unacceptable, and will see this matter brought before the courts, consumer watchdogs and the media."

I received another email denying my refund and informing me that... "This decision will be final. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide any further consideration of your request." They have not addressed the fact I have already made 2 payments about AUD$104 and they are offering me nothing for this money. Now it appears I have been blocked access to customer care. If I attempt to access ''help", I get sent back to the log-in page. Best to steer clear of eHarmony I think.

I started using the eHarmony site about one and a half years ago, originally signing up for 3 months. I decided to renew my subscription for another 3 months using one of their offers sent to me in their many emails. From the start, lots of 'matches' came through along with continuous emails from the company with tips, stories and advice about making a match and dating. The service was generally OK but found it difficult to keep up with the number of matches, although some were not that suitable, coming through resulting with a back log of possible contacts. Because of a serious family illness, which meant that I had little personal time for many months with traveling and caring, I decided to use the facility of 'switching off ' the matches until I had more time to follow through making contacts. I did this rather than cancelling because it had taken a long time to create my profile and didn't want to have to start again if I wanted to use the site at a later date.

Looking back this is where the trouble started. I had not realized that when you 'switch off ' the matches, the profuse emails from the company about any news, special offers or advice also stops. Crucially, there are no more reminders about subscription renewal or package deals when renewing is about to happen automatically. With the demands of dealing with the family illness, the eHarmony site was put to the back of mind and I almost forgot about it; subconsciously, I must have foolishly presumed that I must not have had any renewal of subscription because there had been no communications or offers on renewing sent by email from the site as there had previously. In fact they had not communicated once with me since I has 'turned off my matches'.

Last month, whilst checking my credit card account online, I was very surprised to see eHarmony had deducted approximately £75 from my account. Checking back, I discovered at least one other amount had also been taken without any notification and there had been notification that the terms of my subscription had come to an end. I was quite stunned with this since I have not accessed the site since I switched off the matching facility and the company has had made no contact with me via email during this time, apart from accessing my Barclay card account.

I contacted eHarmony Customer Service by phone to explain the situation and was told to complete an email with my concerns using a special ticket which was sent to me. I did this with the concerns which are listed below: Why did all communication from them stop when I switched off the matches? I was still a subscriber and had not expected complete silence from them concerning subscription status and other services they had offered previously. Why did they not give any notice of the subscription deal coming to an end as they had done before I had switched the matches off? Why was there no courtesy email when money was about to be taken out of my account? I believe a company that cares about its members would automatically do this - especially since their business is built on internet communications and they normally email constantly.

My insurance companies and other services I pay for do and so I am not sure why eHarmony, if they are an ethical company following good practice, would not keep ALL of its members similarly informed. Since I was being bombarded with messages before switching off my matches, I can only assume that they are relying on the many members who are 'inactive' on their site not to remember or be immediately aware that money is 'silently' being taken from their account as a result of not having any notice that their subscription was up for automatic renewal. This practice is in my opinion sneaky and deliberate. I'm sure many people are paying subscription fees automatically without being aware of this and at eHarmony's top premium.

Their reply email to my concerns conveniently stated that they did not have a record of when I switched off matches or when I last accessed the site. The rest of their reply was a generic response which did not answer or justify any of the points which I have mentioned above. I sent a reply email requesting a more detailed response addressing the issues mentioned rather than a standard response, but there has been no reply for several weeks. Having to use email to complain means the company can stop responding at any point. I feel they have only paid 'lip service' to any real care for their members and also the company is making money from its silent members by not making them aware of when membership is being renewed. I am left feeling frustrated and feel no real consideration has been given to the time I spent contacting them about my concerns. There again why should they bother if they can have what probably adds up to large amounts of money from 'inactive' members with their present practice?

Last ironic footnote: Needless to say, I cancelled my subscription with Customer Service when I first voiced my concerns and when this subscription time has close to the end for this last period, they sent out reminders by email to tell me I was at risk of losing matches and offered a special low renewal rate. Apparently they are unable to send similar communications when you are not being an 'active' member. Be warned if you use this site, if you switch off your matches, despite no other services from the company during this time, they will continue to automatically take out subscription fees at their highest rate. Also you may find their Customer Service responses are limited and not as helpful as they could be.

I did not delete my account just because without my consent I already was billed for it. Despite all this, on June my bank account was billed again for using the eHarmony for the next 6 months! The customer care representative lied that in my account the auto renewal option got turned on just before the expiry of my previous subscription!

Given that I did not log in to my account for the last 7 month, they just made it up. Even though the clients have screenshots proving that the auto renewal option was switched off, no one can prove that they did not switch it on in the last moment of their contract expiry. That's how eHarmony tricks the customers. Now I have to transfer all my money elsewhere and to cancel my bank account - just to be sure that eHarmony will not be billing me again and again. I created an account on eHarmony and went along with all of their suggestions, being completely honest and open about myself and what I am looking for. I filled out my profile in its entirety, uploaded several pictures, and I hate to admit it, but enjoyed answering all of the personal questions. I must have answered a few hundred. I did not pay for the account to start, and right off the bat, I had several woman interested in me. And so I began "communicating" with them through the eHarmony site. We apparently liked the answers we were sending each other as the women kept things rolling along. I kept receiving so-and-so wants to keep communicating, so I was feeling pretty good about the entire experience.

One girl who called herself Kristi from Marina Del Rey, even went as far as skipping the communication process after a couple of exchanges and inviting me to start emailing through the interface, which requires that you have a pay account. So I paid for my account through PayPal, providing my phone number and address as requested, and then read Kristi's question. At this point I began to suspect maybe Kristi was some kind of plant from the eHarmony morality police as she asked me how long I'd been on the site and what was I really looking for. I provided an honest answer, that I was hoping to find a woman who knew she wanted children and I was curious as to why Kristi was contacting me so much, seeing as in her profile she wrote she was unsure.

Within 1/2 an hour of sending that message, I received a notice my account was closed, apparently for breaking some mysterious Terms and Conditions. I was pretty upset as I read the terms and conditions and I did not break any of them. All I can figure, since they flat out refuse to respond or provide a reason for the account closure, is that the email address for my PayPal account did not match the email address that I used for my account on eHarmony. Either that or the morality police on eHarmony determined that writing "Good Sex" under the 5 things you can't live without is somehow a moral infraction. I'm no false Puritan, and a good sex life with my woman is very important to me. I was just being honest.

eHarmony is totally stupid and I recommend against ever using eHarmony since they act in such a devious fashion and apparently take it upon themselves to be the morality police or what have you. Regardless of whether Kristi from Marina Del Rey was real person or not, there were two other women who really liked me and liked everything I communicated to them, so eHarmony did them a real disservice as well; and to think they claim they have their customer's best interest at heart. What a pantload.

The matches included social workers, nurses and other people from caring professions - nothing wrong with these people but why would I be interested in anyone who puts other people's needs before hers or mine. Also women who voted green party and I have a small fleet of high powered super cars. Again really? On the plus side, the customer service team were excellent, cancelled everything given. I subscribed to eHarmony some years ago. I believe they are a fraudulent company that probably uses the money that they drain from us suckers to finance their very convincing advertising on TV. I never made any matches in the months I was a subscriber. What was interesting was that after months of no matches whatsoever, when my subscription was about to run out, there were miraculously four matches at the last minute. None ever responded to me. I believe it was a ploy to get me to sign up again and give them more money. I did not.

I joined eHarmony 2 months ago. Aside from the shared experience of all of the other member missives, mine has also been a strange addition in that on many occasions I have exchanged the required 3-step dance of question and answers and then poof - nothing - the "match" suddenly disappears. At first I thought, okay, they're not that into me or they got cold feet - whatever. Then I decided to email one of them just to find out if it was his disinterest or if he just hadn't received my latest eHarmony exchange. Sure enough, he said that he hadn't and that he thought that I had dropped the ball. I'm thinking that this is eHarmony's way of keeping their customer base enslaved. What a waste of precious time. I'm committed until December - putting the date of "auto" renewal on my calendar, going to cancel the membership and going to cancel my credit card on record as well. They are unfortunately sharks preying on a demographic that just wants to find love. Shame on you eHarmony.

Poor business practice with auto-renewal and refund policy. I had a subscription for a year. Like most of those in the forum, I didn't really get much out of the "matches". When I realized that I was charged last night for auto-renewal, I called this morning to cancel and receive a refund. Like most of you I was told that refunds were only offered in the first three days of the subscription. Customer service could not explain why this was the policy and offered a 6-month subscription for $203 or a one month subscription for 69 bucks. What!?! There were also no inquiries about why I was leaving, if I was dissatisfied with the service, moving, meet my "match", etc. This is an unethical practice. I cannot imagine a situation in which I took a customer's money for services or products that I did not render. If I had determined that there should be some sort of compensation for my time or intellectual property, then those terms would be explained. This is extremely disappointing.

Like some in the forum, my matches weren't within my guidelines of physical characteristics like athleticism, age, religious preference, extracurricular activities, and over half of my "matches" lived outside of my state by hundreds of miles. Since my radius was no more than 100 miles, living in SoCal and receiving matches from Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming doesn't work. By the time I deleted the matches that were outside my range and sorted through the matches that were within my guidelines, maybe 1 or 2 a month be of interest. Who has time for all of that? Isn't that what the subscription is for?

In closing, I have never used one of these websites, so my experience is limited. However, I am comfortable in saying that the services provided by eHarmony are lacking. It seems that little attention is given the person and profiles are just pushed through some computer algorithm. It is very impersonal. Their refund policy is unethical. If you did not provide a service, you should not receive a payment, period!

I did have a handful of "communications" which abruptly ended for no apparent reason only to see that several of them had continued to visit my profile days and even weeks later. Oh, and I also ran into a scam artist who attempted to score $500 bucks from me. The person still views my profile to this day. The guided communication is crap to be honest, it just give a false sense that you are getting to know someone. The questions and profiles are really a joke and the whole setup makes actually makes easier for gold diggers and con artists to profile and target people.

Really though, my entire experience after several months has led me to believe the site doesn't even function as it's technically intended to (or not intended, remember they make more dough the longer you have a subscription with them). The form, fit, and function of the service feels strange and I experienced all the strange anomalies as the others here. When I inquired they said I could communicate, even without paying. Not true. When I finally did join, I got less than 5 matches a week. They said my distance requirements were too high. I live in the Raleigh area and agreed to 60 miles. They continually match me with people well over 60 miles. They said my education requirements were too strict. I have a masters. I changed the importance level to somewhat important and got multiple matches for people who had graduated from high school. I complained and they changed my profile.

Without my permission, they changed my distance requirements, my age requirements and even my favorite books (they added where's Waldo!). Most of the matches I get are fat old men. I'm 5'2" and weigh 112 pounds and play tennis 4 times a week. Fitness/attractiveness is important to me, but obviously not to eHarmony. The most interesting thing to me is that hardly any of my matches view my profile. When asked why not, eHarmony replied that they can't force people to open my profile. I asked the customer service rep to view my profile. She admitted that my photos were great, and that I was indeed attractive. I can understand matches not responding (maybe I'm too short; they hate blonde tennis players, etc), but not to even be viewed? Ridiculous. Their solution? Give me two free months. No thanks.

I have been on the site for over 6 months and I have not had one match that met my criteria (which is fairly broad... location, distance, ethnicity, and religion are not deal breakers). Every single match is 'slightly outside of my match criteria.' Rarely is there a match that I would even remotely be interested in. In the rare instances, I've initiated contact with someone but they never respond back (which is odd, because off line folks say that I'm attractive).

I'm on eHarmony because I'm in a local smallish community and I don't want to date anyone in my hometown. I was also hoping to meet men whose personality complimented mine. I thought the benefit to joining eHarmony was that there was a science behind the matching. I feel like they send me any and everything. Beyond that..... I've been online at least once a month by a scam. What's most upsetting is I am locked in a year's contract and there is no way to 'get out.' Every time I log on, I'm more and more annoyed. I signed up for a 6 month membership to eHarmony this spring. I'm on month #3, and guess how many real, live conversations I have had. Yep - ZERO. If someone likes you, they typically don't send a message. Instead, you get a series of questions. Then you answer those questions and reply with a series of questions. Then they send you a list of deal makers and breakers, and you reciprocate. Then you have the option of sending more questions. By that time, my guess is that people get kind of burned out by all those questions; it feels like an interrogation. I understand the logic behind the questions; however, you really can't get a feel for a person's personality unless you have a real, bona fide conversation with that person (in my opinion).

That aside, I have literally received 3 matches this past month - and I live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. EHarmony keeps suggesting that I loosen my geographical restrictions. However, I'm a single mother of 2 children who live with me and with no family in the area. My free time is precious and I'm NOT going to drive to Arkansas, Louisiana or Oklahoma to go on a friggin' date! How difficult should it to be matched with a non-smoking, college-educated man between the ages of 37-49 who resides in the DFW Metroplex - one of the largest metropolitan areas in the country? I filled out all their questions, uploaded a picture, answered their questionnaire and entered my preferences accurately. During the 1st month, they would send me "matches"; however, they were not within my scope. They informed me that my parameters were too stringent -- I needed to expand my area, not answer correctly the questions of smoking or drinking. After the subscription reached its last installment, all of a sudden the matches appeared to dry up. If I do get what they consider a match, it is someone who lives almost 3,000 miles away, at least 10 to 15 years my junior and has none of the preferences I requested.

Every time I see a commercial for this site, I want to throw something at the TV. It is difficult for me to believe that with all the millions that are on this site, they can't find anyone within 50 to 100 miles of my home, and with the preferences I desire. I have cancelled my membership after the last installment and won't really know if it has been cancelled until the end of the subscription period.

I don't consider "trolls" a match and knowing that these people can get in without too much trouble, it isn't what I am looking for. The other issue is that when they send me a "you have to meet this guy" notice and I click on his profile, it takes me to a page with no one I would be interested in and tells me that that profile is not available.

I truly believe this is a fraudulent practice. I highly doubt that their messages regarding how many people have met and gotten married is even close to being true. I would think that you would need to already know someone first, get on the site, send a couple of emails back and forth, and then tell them how wonderful it was to be able to meet on eHarmony. I was an eHarmony member for 6 months. In that time, I received maybe 6 matches a week, almost none of whom was even remotely appropriate. For example, I'm an English teacher who emphasizes books on her profile, and I'd get "matches" who bragged that they never read books. When I complained, eHarmony told me that my distance requirements were too narrow: I wanted someone who lived within 90 miles of me (When I lifted the requirements, I did get more matches - most of whom lived 3 or 4 hours, or more, away). I lived in a busy, heavily populated urban area, not some isolated small town. I went on a few eHarmony dates, most of which were disasters (men with way out-of-date pictures and extreme health problems, someone who borderline stalked me and turned out to be an addict, etc.).

And the much-vaunted Personality Profile? I never could access it, in 6 months, and although I complained and eHarmony replied, they never fix the problem. But what's worse is that I'm no longer a member, and I'm still contacted by men who have gotten me as a "match." I can't contact them back and tell them I'm no longer a member - but more importantly, this means that eHarmony definitely pads its matches with non-members. It's a sleazy, exploitative company. I had far more luck with the cheaper Match or the free OkCupid.

I was on eHarmony for 3 months before giving up. And even at the discounted $30 a month I spent, it was absolutely terrible. Here's the big thing about eHarmony: you can't search for matches. It's all up to eHarmony to provide you with matches and provide you to other people. Unless they give you great matches, it's not worth it. And they're miserable in that regard. They don't:

    1) Give you matches close to you. I live in a university town 2 hours from to other unis. There's a small liberal arts college in town also. I got maybe 5 matches within 3 and half hours of me. I upped the importance of proximity to me for about a week. I got 2 matches.
    2) Give you an "only users with photos" option. You'll get lots and lots of users with no photos. I'd guess it was about half of my matches were.
    3) Give you body type, appearance, etc. options. I'm not particularly shallow, but I don't want to date a woman heavier than me. They do give you race options, so... yay? 4) Give you an "active members only" option. You'll get lots of matches that haven't used their account in months.

    5) Give you a "paying members only" option. Or tell you if someone's paying. If you're not a paying member you can't see members' photos. And I'm not sure if they can even respond to messages. So you'll send "5 quick questions" off and never get an answer. Was she just not interested? Or could she not even see what you look like? Did eHarmony just prevent her from responding? You'll never know.

There are other flaws as well, but nothing is so broken as their matching system. Most days, none of your matches will be interesting. And since you can't search for your own matches... Well, it's kinda like paying for nothing. Except more disappointing.

After eHarmony wasn't going to stop charging my credit card, I decided to go a step further and involve the Better Business Bureau. It can be a long process to make headway in getting them to stop charging your credit card, but after several months and replies back to their response on how I wasn't satisfied with their service and wanted my credit card to stop being charged, the charge was finally not my most recent credit card statement. Of course, I'll have to check every month now until the end of the year (when my credit card expires) to make sure it wasn't a fluke. I even checked my statement several times over, just to make sure I wasn't missing it. I recently got another response from eH via the BBB, but I took too long to respond. Their response was that "they adequately addressed this members concern and have nothing further to add. " Kind of funny that they all of sudden stopped charging my credit card though.

So if you really want to make a case in your credit card being charged when you want out of eHarmony, try filing a compliant with the BBB, just make sure to keep on top of responding back to the complaint or your case will be closed, after 10 days I believe. But it will say how long you have to respond before they automatically close your case. I'm only giving it three stars because they quit charging me... for now. The service still sucks!

I grew suspicious because it would take him days to respond to just a general text while in the middle of a conversation. That put up a red flag. We had scheduled to meet for coffee but after that I texted him and told him I was no longer interested in meeting him. He got mad and said he would call the police if I kept harassing him. Huh???? Very surprised how bad my experience with eHarmony has been. I joined at the recommendation of friends, having previously had some success with 'executive' dating sites, but after zero hits in six months have decided to quit the much hyped eHarmony and go back to using boutique dating sites.

The detailed personal assessment, while time-consuming, was fair, and GUI is okay. However, the utter lack of any suitable matches generated astonishing, for a site which claims (in its ads) to have such a successful track record. As with other users, I found the number of long-distance matches being received to be excessive (despite having stipulated a local catchment area as a 'must have'). The other real annoyance was the number of potentially interesting matches received who, it turned out, hadn't logged in for over a month. So why tell me about them when they've clearly stopped using your site?!

Perhaps eHarmony works for younger couples looking to have kids, but as a middle-aged professional not interested in kids I personally found it to be an utter waste of time. Which is a shame, given the hype.

I intended to let the subscription lapse out.. and cancel. Two days ago I saw a charge on my account again. When I called it got worse.. They told me I was now locked in for another year and another 3 $70 payments.

They did not send warning emails that my account was going to be charged and the auto renewal was going to activate nor did they send an email stating that they had charged my bank account again. Again 2 days after the auto renewal.. they said that they 'could not' allow me to cancel and refund my money they took 2 days after the uncommunicated auto renewal. They also hung up on me about 5 times in a row.. And after 2 hours of trying to get them to understand that I did not know about their 'customer friendly' auto renewal functionality and wanted out.. they said they could (?) not allow that.

Keep in mind they don't allow you to turn off the auto renewal until you have paid all 3 payments.. So they conveniently leave it up to the customer to remember 8 months later after the 3rd payment.. that they need to turn off the 'auto renewal' setting or be forced into another membership. I'm planning to pursue legal and criminal action.. This is blatant fraud and a terrible dishonest company. They can pay me for my time trying to get my money they took from my account without my permission and then pay the lawyers whatever they want to get it done!

They said I had "disabled" my acct., an action I know nothing about, or even how to "disable". They did extend my membership by 2 months, but unwilling to compensate me for the rest. I wrote to the "top" but only got a reply from the Care & Trust Dept. Majority of my matches were far distances from Ottawa and "outside my settings", and many without photos. I agree that they must use fake profiles... none of my "smiles" were returned and I never met anyone in 1 year. I will NEVER renew, nor recommend eH again.

They are indifferent and treat the subscriber (in my case a 68 yr. old woman) like crap. I also suggested to eH that they contact the member to question why they "disabled" the acct. In my case, that would have brought to my attention what had happened. EH informs you almost daily when your membership is about to expire, but cannot advise you if they see your account is "disabled". Their many, costly TV commercials featuring Dr. Clark, the founder, is a scam. It is impossible to reach the top level to tell him so.

I have a premium 2-year subscription with a hefty prepaid membership fee that will be over soon. It was portrayed as being distinctly superior to a lesser membership, supposedly with all kinds of extra benefits for the extra cost. What a bunch of you-know-what. I found it to be just a lot of promotional BS. As for experience with the site itself, negotiating eHarmony's website is difficult and frustrating. IMHO, there is no logic behind its configuration; it's sequence of operations is very confusing. My profile is complete, with 3 pictures on the site, yet I don't think it was viewed more than a dozen times in two years (if that).

Of those who viewed me, about half of them were scammers. eHarmony sent me emails to say not to communicate with them, that they were being banned from the site! I think I can count the communications I have had on the fingers of one hand. Probably half of the matches they sent me did not have pictures, were not in my stated age nor geographical preference. And I repeat, maybe only a dozen of these matches viewed my profile in a two-year period. I called to discuss this with them, to ask if there might not be a technical glitch, and they made the problem MY fault, i.e., I should have more than 3 pictures up, I should change my preferences, I should say I drink!

After several disappointing months of non-communication, I contacted eHarmony to cancel and get some of my money back. NO WAY were they going to do that. They had my money, and that was that. I want to add that I have experience with three other dating sites. No problems with negotiating them. No problems with being viewed, there are more views in a week than I've had with eHarmoney in two years! Their memberships are more reasonable. They fulfill their mission, and they are what they represent themselves to be. The only dating site that disappoints, and disappoints BIG TIME, is eHarmony.

She offered me a three month nonrenewable (I validated on my account before posting here) account for $60. Based on the activity on my account for the first 30 days, I am not impressed. However, I did enter into this knowing full well many had problems with them. I was willing to spend $60 for three months. If I were to click on a link, it would renew at $29.95 for one month. She did tell me I could call back and do another three months at $60. Doubtful I will. Don't take the offer they make you when you sign up online. I've been on eHarmony for several months. I fell victim to their TV ads with the guarantee of being matched by professionals blah, blah, blah. I can cancel my subscription, but I will not get anything I've paid back. The vast majority of my 'professional matches' are listed as "a great match who happens to be outside of my settings". Why is that? Did the professionals make a mistake? Upon further examination, I have been noticing that most of my matches come from the 'What If' area of their site. Also in my matches are people that live 100+ miles further than what I listed in my preferences. The cherry on top is that many have been inactive for over a month. I suppose eH's definition of "professional" is a very loose one! I do find it annoying too that I have to remove matches that are younger and older than what I have saved in my preferences.

I have reported this numerous times on the eH website, with no response. Their latest slap in the face was an email they sent claiming I could be given a professional matchmaker (again.... they use their TV guarantee) for as low as $2000. They informed me that if I had inquiries to reply back. I asked why I would have to pay an additional $2000 if I wasn't even getting their initial guarantee. That was months ago and still no response. My advice? Stick with the free sites or Match.com. 1. They will give responses. 2. Other than Match.com, the rest are free. 3. The preferences and settings actually work. 4. Most of the same people on eH are on those sites as well.

I see others have had issues with eHarmony stating you can cancel at any time but then they require you to pay for the full service even if you didn't use it. I signed up for 6 months, have only used 1. I paid for the first two upfront - that's fine, but I called to cancel the next 4 months and they're telling me I can't w/o paying them more money for services I want to cancel. I understand that this is in their terms and conditions and shame on me for not having read every word of them but having something like that is HORRIBLE customer service.

What's even worse is when you call the customer care line they're not allowed to assist you in cancelling your account and trying to get your money back. They send you an email you have to respond to requesting cancellation and explaining why they shouldn't charge you for a service you aren't going to use anymore. To me being able to talk to a live human about being charged for something you didn't use is extremely important. You're trying to take my money for something I didn't use and I can't even talk to someone who can help me?

I went as high as I could with the customer care line and they're very scripted in your answers. They repeat the same stuff over and over again like you don't understand it, which for me I understood what they were saying perfectly clear but I definitely disagreed with it and felt it was bad customer service. I have worked in the Customer Service industry for 10 years and what eHarmony does is very poor customer service. They advertise finding people, love and happiness but I think eHarmony's concern is money money money. Customer Service does not seem to be a high priority. Avoid at all costs. You'll be ripped off and with no apology, only be fobbed off with terms and conditions you weren't made aware of when initially signing up. Deeply suspect cancellation policies in that their attitude is you can't.

I don't like long distance relationships so I put low miles and I don't like drinkers and I also put no kids because I'm too old to have kids. I had 3 and I have 3 soon for grandchildren. They suggested I not be so set on some things. So changed the miles and the children part. I enjoyed reading and sending e-mails. I received some emails back.

Then when I saw $63 on my CC statement I thought that must be for the 3 months. Ok. I called and said I know I can not get the $63 refunded but that I would like to cancel my subscription. The lady told me that I need to fill my commitment!! I don't remember the ad saying that I need to commit to a year. I understand the first payment should not be refunded but I'm sure I signed up for only 3 months NOT A YEAR.

As other folks have mentioned, I wish I had seen this site BEFORE signing up for eHarmony. I signed up for their one-year offer of $19.99/month. What a mistake! Very unhappy with the platform and the matches I was receiving. For a variety of reasons, I just didn't like it compared to other dating sites I experienced. Nevertheless, I figured I would give it a little more time. So, on the fourth day of my subscription (just one day after the 3-day cancellation period), I called customer service NOT to cancel my subscription, but merely to change the subscription period from 12 months to 3 months.

I told them that I was willing to pay more per month, but that I didn't want to be committed to 12 months. Their answer? NO! You're past your 3-day cancellation period that's in the terms and conditions you signed. They would not budge, even though I wasn't calling to even cancel! I agree with other reviewers. This service is a total scam! I don't know if there's anything one can do, or if this is a "Buyer Beware" situation from a legal point of view.

Then, after reading on this site about all the people who were charged unwittingly for a renewal, I checked my settings. It was set to auto-renew after the 12 months, and there was no way to change that online. So, I called them again. They said I have to wait until after I made the 3rd installment of my subscription before I could change that option. WHAT??? Then she said, after the 3rd payment, I COULD do it online, but I have to choose the option to CANCEL my subscription (even though my current subscription would remain in effect for the remainder of my one-year period). Whoever heard of such an awkward and crazy way to simply cancel an automatic renewal. It's obvious that their modus operandi is simply to confuse and make it as difficult as possible for the unwitting user.... obviously to grab your money. Stay away!

I appreciate it's a relationship site not a dating site (surely you have to date before you have the relationship though), but like many others I found that >80% of the profiles were incomplete or had no pictures. Compared to other 'dating' sites, the Compatible Partners (eHarmony for LGBT) site is ferociously difficult to navigate, with lots of random sections that are fairly nonsensical. Most sites these days are fairly intuitive to navigate and the steps you have to go through to register and set-up are simple. There seems to be an awful lot of wasted real estate on the website, confirming who I am (I know that!?) and you have to go through numerous clicks to actually find anything out the people they have matched with you. And whilst I appreciate it's rubbish in, rubbish out, I did find it odd that they would match me with people in Sydney, Australia when I live in NY, USA. Perhaps if their data gathering steps were clearer, it might make it easier to set-up so you at least find people on the same continent.

Having said all that, I called their Help desk and asked to be removed from the system and refunded. They have done so, after the obligatory offers to assist in navigating the site and extending my cancellation clause from the paltry 3 days to 14 days. I think I'm right in saying that in the UK, there are distance shopping rules which allow you a standard 14 days for any purchases you make on the internet, maybe that's not the case here in the US. Bring the site into the 21st century and maybe I'll have another try but for now, I'll stick to the simpler 'dating' sites.

In the first 2 weeks, they tried to match me up with hideous, obese women who looked like they came from a horror movie. After experiencing 2 weeks of this insulting nonsense, I called E-Harmony to cancel my subscription. The girl who answered the phone was not willing to give me any of my money back & stuck me with their outrageous yearly charge of more than $220, plus had a nasty attitude. Once again I called there to stop this madness & again had to deal with a girl with a smart-ass attitude who acted as if she was doing me a favor by cancelling my subscription renewal & didn't even have the decency to apologize for this fraudulent mishap.

After reading numerous complaints against E-Harmony from victims who were trapped & scammed as I was, it is comforting to know that I'm not alone & that a class action lawsuit is the appropriate course of action. This company needs to be punished for their unethical & greedy business practices. If you feel that you've been mistreated or scammed by E-Harmony, please join me in a class action lawsuit. Although I have several photos of gruesome-looking women that E-Harmony tried to set me up with, I feel that it would be unfair & inappropriate to display these images on a public website. If Consumer Affairs would like to view these pictures confidentially, I will be glad to submit them. In my case, E-Harmony put absolutely no importance on someone's physical appearance, but instead, based their matches for me solely on what they thought were common interests mentioned in our profiles. To completely ignore physical & sexual compatibility while matching people on a dating website is truly the work of a moron.

Don't bother with this crappy service. It's horrible, the matches are horrible and they only give you 3 days to get your money back. Unaware of this, I called on the 4th day to cancel my membership and was basically told too bad. They would not escalate my issue but instead said they would send me an email to send my complaint to. Of course the response was that I was denied. How easy for them. I would say a 3 day return policy really indicates that they have no confidence in their own product and they are not in any way trying to support the consumer in what is best for them. Don't waste your money. I spent $200 for a year long membership to something that does not find relevant matches unless you change your requirements. Regardless, you should have more then three days to sample a product.

Many years ago I signed up to EHarmony. I stopped using the service but kept getting notifications of names I might be interested in. I never really bothered and just chose to ignore them. Then last year I decided to get back into EH but could not remember my password. I wrote them once and got no reply and subsequently tried several times over but there was never a response that allowed me to change the password and re-enter EH. So I switched to another email address and rejoined. The experience proved to be a disaster with a barrage of men who were not remotely a match for me and a number of profiles that would be posted to my email but when I connected to view them I would be told they were no longer available. After some bad catfishing experiences I opted out of EH.

Once that happened I decided to try to get my password changed again on the other email so that I could be totally free of any contact with EH. Still no response. I wrote a letter to them and got no response. I wrote another letter threatening legal action and got no response but I have not seen any new matches within recent times so I am hoping they got the message.

My concern is that EH has been using my profile all these years to have unsuspecting men think that I am a potential match when in fact I am not an active member and have not been for some time. I am concerned that this is a fraudulent practice based on their unwillingness to allow me to disconnect from them and also based on them sending me profiles that no longer are available. This practice inflates the number of people they can claim to have on the website and thus sends a false message to clients and consumers. I am very saddened and disheartened by this website and its owners/managers. I hope, sincerely, that someone reads this and decides to find some way to end what may be fraudulent or misleading practices.

When I first signed up for this site I actually did not have an issue with it (back in 2012). It may have been because I had to replace my card before I stopped using the site, so I did not have to worry about getting charged again. Back in the beginning of February (2014) - however I decided to try my luck with it again. Having tried to sign up for only 3 months I looked at my bank account and discovered they had charged me for a year ($311)! Seeing I had three days to cancel, I decided to wait till the next day to call. Only the next day I couldn't get a hold of anyone e-mail or otherwise due to their hours of operation.

Finally got in contact with them during their time and a very nice gentleman "seemed" to cancel everything and told me I should get my refund in about seven to ten business days. I have yet to see a penny of it, nor have I seen a confirmation e-mail and it was definitely within their so called 'three day cancellation period'. I am about to call again, but I have a strong suspicion from what I've been reading that they very well may have just gotten away with a legal theft (is this possible???). It just makes me wish that I found this site before. It's a scam, don't go near it.

Apparently, they do not care to communicate with members. I would suggest that future members avoid this site. If you ever have a problem there is no one who will help.

Lie #1) I was originally told that I had three days after initial subscription to cancel without automatic renewal of $134. I called two days after. No such policy exist. I was charged a renewal of 134 for six month of service I won't use.

Lie #2) I was told by a customer care rep that I could write a letter to appeal to charge by asking for a one month subscription vs the full six months. The Billing department does not except appeals.

So here I sit with a 6 month subscription to worst dating website in history, that I will never use. All based on informed sales reps and a billing department that could care less about customer satisfaction.

I never write reviews, but given the hefty subscription fee, I thought I'd help other people save some cash and avoid feeling ripped off. My experience with eHarm was really disappointing due to: (i) the quality of eHarmony's website (technical); (ii) the matches proposed based on their algorithm (none were a good match and it is impossible to avoid this issue as views are restricted to people proposed by the algo. Obviously, you need to trust the way they've modeled it. But I think that if it really worked, there would be fewer negative reviews on the subject); and (iii) the app keeps crashing.

But the worse is to come: the automatic renewal feature by default is a real scam! I was forced to renew for another 3 months because I missed this part in terms & conditions. And of course, it is impossible to cancel once paid and they don't do refunds. I checked the Office of Fair Trading (UK) recommendations and I think their practice is borderline legal given lack of clear information or advance warning of upcoming debit, and well as determination of renewal period. Overall, this is shocking and a sign of a flawed and unsustainable business model, which relies more on fees from automatic renewals than the quality of service offered to customers. Now, I am just left feeling completely ripped off and £220 lighter. Customer service was inconsiderate.

I signed up for E Harmony online dating with what I understood was 3 months and if I wasn't satisfied I could cancel. After trying to navigate that site, I found it was poorly created. I tried to cancel, when I called they said I couldn't cancel until my 3 months were over and I had to pay $55.00 per month. After the 3 month period lo and behold a cancel button showed up. I cancelled only to be charged another $55.00. I called yet again and this time I was told I had signed a contract for a year! I had argued with the eharmony agent for quite some time and then called my bank. Their ads on TV are extremely deceptive, if not satisfied you will get a full refund. I was actually told by their own agent, if we did that, we would be out of business! Be aware of their business practices!

It was not user friendly and I didn't meet anyone that I was even remotely interested in. THEN, I thought that I chose a subscription for 3 months @ $55, HOWEVER, They took another $55 out of my account the very next month. When I called them, they said that I had signed up for a whole year and that ANOTHER $55 would be coming out of my account in March, the next month. And that I couldn't cancel my membership until it was completely paid for. I told the lady that I was unhappy with the service and did not want to use it anymore and to please just allow me to close my account. Very rudely she denied my request and said that I should have paid closer attention. I HATE THIS SITE, never use them. They will take your money and not provide a good service and then not even care if you are unsatisfied!!!!

I too am of the mind that if I'd seen this site I never would have signed up for eHarmony, which is the biggest waste of money ever! They constantly want to introduce me to men who do not have pictures and live 50 miles away! I know they don't have actual people pairing up my pictures with other people's pictures but the matches they send me are also absolutely outrageously not my type! Sorry to be blunt but I'm just annoyed, I get pictures of most definitely fat, old and very unfit men who do NOT match my profile! I get messages from them constantly telling me I should look further afield to increase my quantity, but really why would I want to look 50 miles and more away?

I've seen something like 1000 or more pictures, of which I semi-like 4-6! This is not because I'm fussy but because their matching technique is dreadful!!! I can't browse as I can only see what they send me, of which NONE have been within at least 35 miles! If I put what I'd really like, say max distance of 20 miles which I think reasonable, I wouldn't have seen a single possibility! I've met one person who was ok, but again really not my type! I'm so annoyed at this rubbish and end up yelling at the TV whenever their ads come on. I have set my calendar to remind me to cancel about 2 weeks before my end as I'm most definitely not renewing my membership to this rubbish! I have paid nothing for PoF and it has been a thousand times more worthwhile!

I joined eHarmony for only a day. I decided it wasn't for me and cancelled. The customer care person tried everything to get me not to cancel; even tried giving me another deal that would charge me an extra 10 dollars, but I would only have to subscribe for a month instead of the six. I politely refused for the third time and was told my membership would be cancelled and I'd get a refund within 7-10 business days. When I received my email confirmation for the refund I noticed I was getting two refunds. The customer care person went ahead and charged me the extra 10 dollars after I had specifically declined the offer. I know 10 dollars isn't a huge difference, but it's the principle of it. Now I have to wait 7-10 days for both refunds!

I wish I had read this site before I joined. I had zero dates on eHarmony. I had not used the site in months and on the day of the automatic renewal tried to cancel the account. Although I was within hours of the deadline, I was told that there was no way I could cancel. They would not waive the annual fee. I wrote to the customer care and was again denied. I called again and was told they would not make money if they refunded everyone who misses the deadline. Oh yes, I can see how banking on sign ups to have difficulty cancelling or forgetting to disable the automatic renewal can be lucrative. I read about how others were able to disable the automatic renewal and still be charged. What a rip off. Please should know about this. I have dealt with other dating site who were gracious about waiving fees. eHarmony is using bad non-customer friendly business practices. Stay away from them.

About 6 months ago E.harmony run an ad on many radios including Praise Radio I used to listen to, that included a sentence 'Signing up is free, now.' After over an hour of work of filling their personality traits questionnaires, the payment page came up. Free sign up was just a trick! Having heard the owner on radio pretending he was Christian, I gave him the benefit of doubt, and this time when I saw his ad on TV, that said 'Sign up now and start corresponding for free.'

Again I went through hour and half on answering all the site's questions, and lo and behold there is NO free correspondence! They charge people an arm and a leg for sign up, and obviously from the reports on this site, most people find E.harmony's services as crooked as their ads! With Christians as crooked as this dude, the world has no need for Satan-worshipers! Wake up and dump the crooked site!

Signed up for the new year to be a little more social during the free communication week. Had a few free introductions and then some wanted to email. I hesitated but gave in thinking that they were real messages. Turned out that the users had "moved on and closed their accounts".

Matches were from all over, hardly any in my city, and most seemed very familiar. Turned out most the users on the site are free users, they can't communicate with you! Eharmony told me in an email when I tried to cancel that most free users join after initiating contact, and that there is no way to tell if a user is a subscriber or a free user. Also it was several hours before the end of the 3 days cancellation period and they refused to cancel saying that it was day 3 and that I could not cancel unless they had processed all 3 installments. I asked what if I cancelled and put a stop payment since I had paid 1/3 a years rate and only used 3 days, they told me that they would send me to a collections agency.

On day 4 I explained that they had refused to cancel on day 3 and got a reply saying that now that it was day 4, it was too bad and up to me, well in a few more word than that. I ended up reporting the incident to my credit card company and they said they will change my card number so that I would not be billed if they tried it. Turns out most the users are on plenty of fish. Not a lot of paid subscribers at all. Total waste of time, bad practices, horrible customer service.

I've had a similar experience to most of the people who have complained here. Paid through the teeth for Eharmony on the advice of a relative. Site is pathetic, a lot of dead profiles that were made during their "free communication weekend"...in the end a total waste of money. Stopped using the site 2 months before my account was due to expire and made sure that my auto-renewal was turned off. Yet, when I logged in to check that the account was closed, my account had been renewed and another payment of 140 dollars taken off my credit card!! I have read WAY TOO MANY review from people saying the same thing happened to them to believe this was an accident. EHarmony is a scam site.

So let me tell you how I went about getting my money back from thieves. As soon as I discovered the transaction, I emailed them with a very frustrated, but more so sappy email saying please, I made sure to turn this off, I can't afford it, how can this get switched on when I didn't even go into my setting page? I feel like I'm being stolen from, please give me my money back. I would be more likely to use your site again if you gave me my money back, etc., etc.

The second thing I did was to immediately file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Based on the BBB log of their interaction with Eharmony, as soon as Eharmony heard from the BBB they issued a refund. I assume this was so there would be no permanent mark on the BBB profile. When I asked the BBB to ask Eharmony to provide proof of how my auto-renewal got turned on they said it was due to a "rare technical issue" and that they "had no proof" of me turning my auto-renewal off. So they're either totally inept or a company full of bold-faced liars. Steer very clear of this website. CLEAR!
