Is the customer service with my Wells Fargo Visa card the worst? Who knows, you can't get ahold of them. Onerous call trees, no prompts that match what you need service for, no option to speak with a live person, then after 20 minutes of labor, frustration, nonsense, transfers, holds, and tears, you are informed they can't handle your call right now, you will have to call back later, and it hangs up. If a spouse was the disrespectful and cruel, you would divorce them.

I applied for a Wells Fargo credit card for my business. Over a month and a half I had to call daily for updates and to find out that I needed to send in new documents or was missing something. It took them weeks to verify documents I had sent in when initially they said it would take 3 to 5 business days. When I would call back, they told me they were behind and it could take much longer.
Finally after a month and a half of this back-and-forth, they simply declined my application. The amount of time and energy wasted was insane. Customer service was terrible. No one knew what was flying. No one could tell me anything productive until it was too late. I am actually happy I was declined now. I will never have to deal with them ever again.

I have cash, investments, mortgage and several WF branded credit cards. Their credit card agent are awful. Of the 8 various institutions I have credit cards with, this is by far the worst by a big margin. I have their credit cards only for 5 years and I think I am at the point of winding down given how disrespectful and incompetent their credit card dept is. Luckily, I have options so not an issue with being stuck with them.

1-Star Review – Wells Fargo’s Complaint Process Is a Sham Designed to Dismiss Customers. Wells Fargo’s handling of my billing dispute has been one of the most frustrating, dishonest, and dismissive customer service experiences I have ever encountered with a financial institution. After paying my credit card in full, bringing the balance to $0.00, Wells Fargo charged me $276.77 in interest days later. When I contacted customer service, representatives acknowledged that the charge did not appear correct, but said they lacked authority to fix it and instructed me to submit a formal complaint. I did exactly what I was told — twice.
FIRST COMPLAINT: IGNORED SUBSTANCE, NO REAL REVIEW. In my first complaint, I provided:
• Exact payment dates and amounts• Proof the balance was paid to $0.00 before the interest posted
• A clear explanation that my concern was about disclosure and timing, not ignorance of APR rules
Wells Fargo responded with a boilerplate denial that did not meaningfully address my argument. Instead, they relied on a vague explanation about “interest accrual” without explaining why interest was charged when the account showed a zero balance.
SECOND COMPLAINT: WELLS FARGO CLAIMED I PROVIDED “NO ADDITIONAL INFORMATION”. After receiving that dismissive response, I submitted a second, more detailed complaint, directly rebutting their explanation. In that response, I:
• Explained why their “after the due date” justification is not supported by their own billing statements• Pointed out that the due date is referenced for late fees, not post-payoff interest
• Reiterated that neither the statement nor the agreement clearly disclose that paying an account to $0.00 before statement closing would still result in a new balance being created later
• Asked for a written explanation identifying exactly where this outcome is disclosed to customers
Despite all of this, Wells Fargo had the audacity to state — in writing — that I had “provided no additional information.” That statement is objectively false. I provided extensive written responses, documentation, and clarification in BOTH complaints. Wells Fargo simply chose to ignore them. THIS IS NOT A REVIEW PROCESS — IT’S A SHUTDOWN MECHANISM. Rather than engaging with the issue, Wells Fargo:
• Mischaracterized my dispute• Ignored my written rebuttals
• Recycled the same talking points
• Closed the case without addressing the actual concern
This makes it clear that the “Enterprise Complaints Management Office” exists not to resolve disputes, but to wear customers down until they give up. Even worse, Wells Fargo attempted to shift blame to me by implying I failed to provide information — a tactic that feels deliberately misleading and insulting given the time and effort I put into responding properly. THE CORE ISSUE WAS NEVER ADDRESSED. At no point did Wells Fargo answer the central question: Why was interest charged on a date when the account balance was $0.00, and where is it clearly disclosed that this would happen after payoff? Instead, they hid behind technicalities, ignored my responses, and closed the case.
FINAL WARNING TO CONSUMERS: If you believe filing a complaint with Wells Fargo will result in a fair review — it won’t. If you think providing documentation and clear explanations matters — it doesn’t. If you expect honesty when they say you “provided no information” — don’t. Wells Fargo’s complaint process is performative, not corrective. It exists to protect the bank, not the customer. I paid my balance in full. I followed their instructions. I escalated properly. And I was dismissed anyway. Do yourself a favor and avoid this institution. When something goes wrong, Wells Fargo will not fix it — they will deny, deflect, and close your case.

Was offered the One Key credit card with a $400.00 key cash reward if I spent $1000.00 within the first month. After spending over $2000.00 on said card, I received no reward of any kind on my statements following so after two months I inquired with Wells Fargo customer service who said they could not help me with that. Both Amy and John said they would have to transfer me to a different company who handles that. What?? Then after transfer, A gal named Lucinda said she couldn't find my account by my card number! What?? So she said I had to call the very number I had originally had to call for Wells Fargo customer service!! Oh I had enough of that nonsense! I immediately called back to cancel my account! Not playing these games of false advertisement and incompetent workers! Wells and Fargo should be very Ashamed!!!

Well I’m facing financial hardship at this moment and I called customer service and the first lady Jessa was very sweet but I got switched over to a lady named Katie and she was very rude and nasty. Just downright heartless on my matter of struggle to pay my credit card, I asked if they had any repayment options and she was rude with giving them to me, and it wasn’t no type of helpful benefits for me to pay back what I owe, with limited income at this time. I’m willing to take care of my debt but to i treated like that was a no no for me. I’ll tell anybody to stay away from Wells Fargo credit card.

The Wells Fargo Attune credit card is largely worthless. They say it offers 4% back on an eclectic mix of categories, but you find that many of the businesses that logically fall into those categories apparently don't code them to Wells Fargo's satisfaction. 4% back on pet care -- but I got 1% on my vet's bill. 4% on entertainment and attractions -- but I got 1% on museum admission and 1% on music shows at a major local theater. Wells Fargo blames the way the venues code, but you don't know that in advance. Better to stick with a 2% guarantee. This card is pointless.

I had a Wells Fargo home improvement card and it offers zero interest for a home project but when you go to use it the companies they represent for your project find out you’re doing a zero interest loan they raise their price for the job. So I called Wells Fargo and was told they didn't control the supplier's pricing so what good is the zero interest. So I took a hit and canceled the card. After all what good is it if you're going to pay interest anyway.

Wells Fargo is institution behind Micro Center Credit Card. While perks are good when using card to purchase items at Micro Center (5% discount), the bank can be easily confused if you pay off a new purchase while paying off a promo on time. They applied the payment of a new charge to the promo amount resulting in confusion and finance charge. Imagine incurring finance charges even though you are on time or early in payment. I thought it got settled when I brought it to their attention. In fact I received a confimation letter approving the dispute.
Despite this more finance charges occurred even though there was no new purchase and even though the promo residual amount was paid off way before it was set to be due. I called four times and finally got someone at a higher level to look into this... Again. It is not fair to pay finance charges, late fees when I paid on time and in full and has no further purchases. I asked to close the account. Too bad. I enjoy Microcenter but it is not worth the hassle and effort to resolve an error made by Wells Fargo.

This is the WORST experience I have had with a credit card company in over 20 years! Thankful I do not have money in this bank. I recently updated my contact information with Wells Fargo online for my 2 credit cards I have for them. When I logged in to pay on my account I noticed my rewards account had a name that I have not used in over 10 years linked to the account. After 4 weeks of misinformation by WF and their inability to remove that name that they changed without my authorization I closed out that account. What a cluster you know what. Not one person in the actual bank or on the phone could fix their mistake. They finally told me I would have to request a name change!!! Seriously? They didn’t get my approval to change it from the name I applied to their company in and change it.
I closed the card and their BS rewards account. Not sure which monkey is running this circus but don’t get mixed up with these clowns. When searching where to warn others of their unethical business practices I ran across where they are being sued for all kinds of mess. Wish I had done better research before messing with this joke of a company! Save yourself a headache and stay far away from anything connected with Wells Fargo!

It took my balance up by over $1200!! I will NEVER again use WF for anything ever again.

This credit card is supposed to send you out merchandise with your reward points. 8 out of 10 times when ordering something on their merchandise site, after wasting time scrolling through the information and then placing the order, they tell you the next day or two they no longer have that merchandise. This is the absolute worst credit card ever I had and I have had many in the past. This is a total scam.

Wells Fargo is terrible. I've held one of their cards for several years, of course always paying my balance in full every month. This is the worst credit card issuer I have ever used. Wells Fargo has taken $2,000 from my checking account and is refusing to apply it to my Wells Fargo new credit card account. Absolutely unacceptable! Wells Fargo are acting unethically; I will never do business with this bank again. I will share my experience with millions of people online, file a formal complaint with the State of Illinois and the Federal Consumer Protection Agency, the Better Business Bureau, and I will possibly file a class action lawsuit. If they took my money, chances are they might do the same with millions of other people across the nation. It's time to put a stop to this behavior. Stay away from Wells Fargo!

Wells Fargo credit cards, I had 2 of them. One was for $8500. The other one $2500 I had $995 on 1, and I had $95, on the other one. They decided to lower my credit line. Down to a $1000 and the other one to $300. My ratio was under 20%. On all my credit cards. Never, ever been late. Always pay all my credit cards on time. And this is what Wells Fargo's will do to you. So I paid the $95 and paid the 995. Dollars, And close the accounts. Where they're stupid, they're as stupid. Don't deal with this bank. I applied for a promotional credit offer with a credit score over 700 and was approved for a small amount. It seems the promotional offers are a scam to get you to apply for a credit card. The amount they approve is unlikely to help with anything you are trying to accomplish. Instead of approving a credit history appropriate amount, they approve a jokingly small amount that is not helpful for anything. Try other cards first, this one is a joke.

Worst security ever. This company cannot be trusted. Your loyalty is of zero concern. I personally had to replace cards 7 times in a two year period because my identity was stolen. I had the need to dispute a processed charge for a purchase made from Aliexpress for $630.46 for an item that was never delivered. The dispute was submitted on March 20th and partially approved and credit issued on May 22nd. The total purchase involved a mixed payment from the Visa Credit card account ($544.32) and the associated rewards account ($86.14). Only the Credit card amount of $544.32 was credited. The remaining $86.14 from the Awards account was not credited back.
After contacting the Wells Fargo Rewards customer service representative (very long wait) I was told that those funds were already paid out to the vendor and there was no way for Wells Fargo to credit my rewards account the amount that was released. I find this response to be unacceptable. Obviously the dispute was confirmed and honored for the Credit card charge, ($544.32) why not for the Rewards amount ($86.14)? From this experience I would highly recommend that anyone who has a credit card with Wells Fargo that provides cash back benefits, to redeem those cash back benefits by receipt of a check or deposited to an appropriate bank account. Do not expect to receive meaningful customer support from Wells Fargo Rewards Customer Service representatives.

Wells used to be an excellent bank, however, customer service online has gone done considerably. When you call with an issue and it is not resolved and then you call back to follow-up the currenT rep. has no background on your previous issue thus causing more delays going over the same problem again. If the credit card companies have your record of any previous issues / calls ... why can't Wells do the same thing. I hope A1 can help. I am also a shareholder so this is also why I am submitting this complaint / review. Charlie Sharp, CEO, try to do something about these issues.

The WF Rewards card is consistently lowering my credit score by not applying my rewards well after charges have cleared. This sometimes takes place one month to a month and a half after purchases have cleared before the rewards post to your rewards balance. The initial $200 after you spend $500 will also not come until that time frame. Then once you do get it the $200 does not post to your account. You have to do that manually, If you apply it to the account it says that it is applied but deducts nothing from your balance perhaps for multiple days (right now I’m on 3 business days). The app is also very hard to navigate and it is hard to find how long rewards will be posted and when. During this entire time my credit score lowered by nearly 20 points. Other cards with rewards do a much better job at this system.

They had a promo for balance tranters at a specialty rate of 5%. On 4/6 I went to transfer A amount of money from another card. They sent message asking if it was me. Then told me I had X amount on my card and could transfer B; they were only letting me charge half of my credit line. They said A had been cancelled and wouldn't go through. So, I go back in and make a transfer of B amount. Then on the 7th I get an email saying my account is overdrawn and I have to pay O immediately. I look and they sent both transactions through. A service fee was attached to both transactions. I call customer service - they can't reverse the charge. I have to wait for my other bank to send me a refund. Then I call to see about getting the service charge for the transaction A, as it was sent in error. They said no. So, they basically stole $300 dollars from me.

In mid-October of 2024, Wells Fargo Visa made an unauthorised debit of $24,326 from our checking account to pay down our Visa on Friday afternoon, a Friday preceding a three day weekend. Our discovery of this blind-sighted debit came when we could not pay our groceries Friday evening with our debit card. Our checking account was in the red for $21,162 on October 11th. I called Visa to find out who and why this could happen to me, a 45 year client with Wells, with no explanation. After four extremely anxious days, my WF Private Banker had restored our checking account balance and then Wells Visa, with no authorisation, debited that account, AGAIN, on October 22 for $21,162. What a fiasco.
I had my WF Private Banker put a stop order on Visa, just so this would not happen anymore. A word to anyone who might choose to bank with WF Visa: Don't. I quote WF Visa... "We have security measures in place to help detect and prevent fraud. Despite these measures, situations such as yours can still occur. We respectfully decline your request for compensation as there is no evidence a bank error occurred." WF lives in an alternate corporate universe and they don't care how they can harm you.
