Discover It Secured credit card review
Discover It Secured is one of the few secured credit cards that earn rewards. A minimum deposit of $200 is needed to be approved for a Discover It Secured card, but cardholders can deposit up to $2,500. Discover It Secured credit card activity is reported to all three major credit bureaus, and after eight months Discover will begin automatically reviewing your secured account to see if you’re eligible to graduate to an unsecured credit card.

- Cashback rewards: Cardholders get 2% cash back at gas stations and restaurants on the first $1,000 in combined purchases each quarter. All other purchases earn automatic and unlimited 1% cash back. Plus, Discover will match the cash back you’ve earned at the end of the first year. Cash back can be redeemed at any time for statement credits, through direct deposits or for gift cards at popular merchants and retailers.
- Free credit updates: Discover It Secured cardholders can access their FICO credit scores (updated monthly) for free. Plus, Discover reports credit activity to all three major credit bureaus, so you can track how your credit score improves over time.
- Automatic credit review: Discover automatically reviews Discover It Secured accounts after eight months of to see if the cardholder can “graduate” to an unsecured Discover card. Issuer credit reviews consider you Discover It Secured activity as well as your credit management and utilization across other loans and lines of credit.
Discover It Secured credit card rates and fees
Many secured credit card issuers charge a yearly or monthly fee for cardholder benefits, but Discover It Secure doesn’t require an annual fee or charge foreign transaction fees. With the Discover It card, late payments will not affect your APR and Discover will waive your first late payment fee. Subsequent late payments and returned payments will cost up to $39 each. Another avoidable charge is the 5% ($10 minimum) cash advance fee to withdraw money from an ATM.

How to apply for a Discover It Secured credit card
Discover It Secured credit cards are easy to apply for, but Remember, even with the initial security deposit, approvals are not guaranteed. Some applicants are declined based on income or debt factors, like a pending bankruptcy. Be aware that filing a Discover It Secured application will generate an inquiry on your credit report, which could negatively impact your score.
- Submit an application: You can fill out a Discover It Secured credit card application online. Applicants must provide their Social Security number, address, bank account and routing numbers. Discover It Secured credit card requirements state approved applicants must be at least 18 years old and have a U.S. bank account. Your income and creditworthiness will determine your maximum Discover It Secured credit limit. Those who have not established credit before can do so with their tax returns.
- Make your deposit: Part of the online application process is paying the minimum security deposit. Whatever amount you put down for your security deposit will be equal to your credit limit.
- Select your card design: Approved applicants can select from multiple Discover It Secured card designs (the card does not have the word “secured” on it). After your account is open for about a month, you can apply for a Discover Secured credit line increase.
- Receive your Discover It card: After you’re approved, Discover will send your secured card in the mail within 10 days.

Discover use to be my favorite card. I have been a member since 1988. I have noticed more and more local restaurants not accepting Discover any longer. I get the same answer from each one as the reason. They same since their latest system upgrade their machines would not take Discover cards. When I called Discover about the issue they put the blame on the restaurants. Discover said the companies were not willing to work with them. I could believe this if it was only one place, but I have had it happen at 4-5 different chain fast food restaurants. I can no longer recommend Discover to anyone looking for a credit card.

I recently received a cashier's check from Discover for my security deposit refund. After waiting more than 2 months to receive it, I've found out that they forgot to embed their ROUTING NUMBER on the check. It baffles me that a credit card company forgets something so basic and essential on a check. Once I've called them back, they told me to wait another 2 weeks for them to approve a ACH wire transfer of the funds. Why couldn't they offer this option in the first place? I'm disappointed that a credit card company can show incompetence in such simple tasks.

Discover card give me 300 dollars cash advance then they denied. I called customer service after 20 minutes back and forth. They couldn’t find my file then I requested to cancel my card quickly. They cancelled it the day after calling me. I asked them if you could not find who I was how you cancel my card? Never again.

I have a Discover it credit card that I added my daughter on as a user when she was in college but somehow she got setup as a secondary card holder, not a problem for a while but now she is married and has her own cards, etc. I have tried to get her removed from the account and my wife added as the joint card holder instead of just a user but this can not be done, I would need to setup a new card and lose my 1991 member status, my daughter was born in 1992 so she was not even around when I setup this card but now she can not be removed. They would rather lose a 30+ year customer than remove a name that both parties agree want changed? So be aware that a secondary card holder can not be removed from a Discover it credit card.

I was pleased with Discover card till recently when I went to do a dispute with Progressive ins for not canceling a policy and refunding $954 to my card. They, now, make a person wait 15 days beforehand and tell holders they have to wait 30-60 days sometimes. What happened to the good service? Now, they allow companies to steal from consumers by holding their refunds (money) interest free!!!!

I had the Discover IT card for several years and spent a fair amount of $$ using it. Despite saying that it's "secure" and "can't be charged" I was charged on several occasions while my account was "frozen." I also had transactions by Frontier Airlines and Ticketmaster that were charged without my consent, after disputing Discover said "sorry you have to pay that," sucks to be you. They will not fight on your behalf, and on several occasions I ordered a new card and never received it. This includes while closing out the account, someone made a 1700$ charge on my card after I had ordered a new card months before. I never received the card, they have no record of the card being ordered and I got stuck with a 1700$ bill. Don't believe them when they say that your protection is their #1 priority. They care much more about larger corporations than you, the customer.

I applied for a secured credit card. The process was difficult to start with. They want me to send images of my credentials ie DL, SS card etc. Once I jumped through all their hoops and finally got approval I sent them a deposit to secure my card. A week later they sent requests for more information and then after providing it they promptly closed my account without explanation. Now the account I opened to help rebuild my credit hurt it with a "Creditor closed account" note in my file. I will NEVER apply for another Discover card no matter how good my credit gets.

Updated on 08/11/2023: I disputed a charge from Hughes Net for non returned equipment. Discover took the charge off, put it back on, took it off, put it back on again. I talked to Hughes Net. They found the equipment had been returned. They finally are now sending a check. They couldn't credit my Discover account. I called Discover and they couldn't do anything, couldn't understand anything, really a bunch of **. There is no telling how many time I was charged. They have no respect for their so called valued customers.
Original Review: HughesNet charged for equipment that's was returned. It was disputed with Discover and Discover ruled in my favor. Two days later they ruled in HughesNets' favor. Do not trust Discover to do the right thing. Big business wins with Discover.

First off, I scoured the internet upside down and backwards, but I cannot find a way to leave a Discover IT Credit Card review at their own website. I mean. I cannot! Why? Also, while I was a customer, I was offered to apply for a loan, which I took up, because you know - "You are prequalified". Up until and through the application, through an hour of haggling, the rep assured me I am only going formalities, which I gracefully agreed to. Later they asked for more documents, then they rejected it. Also, after a few months of rejecting the loan, they closed my credit card. Why? Because after 5 years of having 100% on-time payments, they needed to 'verify' my account. Are you kidding me? Amateurs at this game. My advice and lesson is - stick with the good bank for all financial products. These fly-by-night crooks will leave you stranded in a hurry. And they have no offices to walk up to. That should tell you something.

I got Discover a few years ago to have my own, then got backed into a corner of my mother demanding all money to pay her back, all my paychecks went to her so I had absolutely nothing left, and used the credit card to pay her back from feeling backed into a corner feeling threatened something worse may happen. Just a bit of background on how I got into the debt in the first place. For a long time I was not able to pay off the card effectively, financial situations and all. However I do not understand how my balance went from 100 something to 19 something, even now times are hard for people. I am paying it off to get rid of the card, how did my balance go from over a hundred, almost 200 dollars, to 19?
I did miss a payment but that shouldn't have happened, that in turn keeps me on the card longer, and has me taking even longer to get off the card, to them in turn close the account and be done with Discover, I did ask this same question a while back and they did not answer and cut off the conversation completely? Plus I have the card frozen so no transactions will be working on it either so I know nothing has gone on on the card. It's either they want you to pay off the debt or not it can't be a pick and choose type thing, cause it sounds like a ploy to get more money than what your debt actually is instead of you being able to actually pay off the debt and give them all their money back so they ain't gotta deal with you no more, which I thought was the whole point but I guess whatever gets them more money and keeps customers giving them probably thousands of dollar than what they actually owe is the goal here.
I think I remember seeing something like this happen even when the payment wasn't late and it made absolutely no since, it's giving manipulation, it's giving gaslighting when you ask them about it, it's giving very scummy scamming behind "reputable" company
