Discover is racist towards minorities, if you make a large payment on a card with them, from your bank that you have been using to make regular payments from. They will not show that you have paid down the card with the large payment, until up to 8 business days after they review that the payment is the legit. Meanwhile the funds are already out of your bank account. If you want the payment to show quicker and the funds be available on the credit card, you have to three way to your bank with Discover on the phone, so that they can verify the payment came from your account, which is very disrespectful, because they are treating you like a child at that point. They say that normally when you make a payment it takes two business days for funds to be available on the card, but yet if you try to pay off half or all your balance on the card, it takes up to 8 business days for funds to be available after they do research.

This process can affect your credit, because when your statement closes that is the balance that is reported to the credit bureau, so let's say statement closing date is 09/02/2022, you made a payment to pay off the last statement balance that was $3,000 on 08/31/2022. That payment is not going to show you paid off the balance to the credit bureau until the next month, and you want to use less than 30% of your credit card. But the 0% promotions do not help your credit when making purchases, because your credit usage still needs to be less than 30%.

If you had a large purchase using way more than 30% credit card utilization, your credit will take a hit for that one month, but by the way Discover takes care of large payments made to them, your credit can take a hit for two months. Also this has nothing to do with them being racist for this part, but they charge 3% of the balance to come up with their minimum payment, when other creditors only charge 1% of the balance, this pertains to 0% promo offers as well. Minimum payment with Discover is 3% of balance no matter what.

Ugh. Discover processed a balance transfer that has not been received by the other credit card despite it being over 10 days. The customer service is absolutely worthless. Once I take advantage of the 18 months interest free - since I foolishly paid a 3% balance transfer fee - I will never use this card. Have screenshots of the worthless waste of time trying to get info from customer service. No wonder folks think Discover is a joke of a company! A card not worth having!

Discover Card Offer of 5% in cashback is not true. Read the fine print. You only get 1% on most of your purchases. You have to jump through hoops to get 5% on very few purchases and this is also capped at $75. Discover Card cashback offer is a SCAM! Don't get this card if you want decent cashback for your spending.

This was the best customer service experience I have ever had. This was so good that it actually made me angry at other companies because of how bad they were in comparison. The automated system transferred me to an agent immediately when I asked. I was routed to the correct department immediately and my concerns were addressed smoothly. I am floored and dreading calls to other companies in the future.

Loyal customer, always paid bill in full before due date. Process of moving ex-roommate used my card for junk removal without my permission. Filed report w/ police. Made claim on card. Investigator called and accused me of lying, slammed my character and was so aggressive and rude! Been going back and forth since September 2022! It’s such a small amount I should just pay to have it over BUT I’m fighting it only for the principle of the matter BUT to prove that investigator wrong! Once over I’m closing account and posting to my social media followers.

Was a loyal customer for 15 years. Made a dispute because a restaurant puts food we cannot eat in their seafood bucket, they admit these details are not mentioned in online ordering, and they don’t do refunds. They won the dispute, Discover said there’s nothing they could do. It’s like poisoning our food and getting away with it. So I closed the account not realizing the dispute chargeback was underway, by the time I realized I was slapped with late fees.

I called Discover and they said they could reverse 1 late fee, when I pay just agree to the whole amount and not to worry the fee removal would be reflected, and it would take 2 business days for this payment to be withdrawn from my bank. Turns out Discover bamboozled me despite everything being recorded on the call and in their notes. The total amount was withdrawn the same day. No fee reduction whatsoever. Not only does Discover not fight for you when vendors could get away with murder, they have shady business practices to get any last hurrah. Save yourself the trouble, don’t trust Discover, if you have an account, close it when your balance is settled, it’s not worth the inevitable disaster.

I always have the best customer service with Discover. After moving across country I have dealt with multiple dishonest and unethical companies. Discover has helped me recover money from predatory "moving companies," banks, and mobile/internet companies. I always get through to someone and they are always located in the U.S. which is really helpful. Unlike so many other companies, they still seem to value their customers. I really appreciate them and would recommend working with them.

Ok, I applied for a $500 line of credit on a secured line, I was approved, so I added my wife. After weekly payments to pay my card down to zero every week, I decided we needed a larger limit increase. I was approved for the max of $2500 Secured. I choose to do $1000, bumping our credit limit to $1500 total. November 1st my we deposited the $1000.00, it typically can take up to 8 business days to reflect your account. It's November 18th, no limit increase, I've called 11 times and get the same ** run-around story. The people are very friendly, but management and the secured line department supervisors are absolutely worthless.

After reading 172+ negative reviews, it warranted us to yell them to stop our credit increases, Expedite and refund our $1000. They said it will take 2-3 BILLING CYCLES? WHAT??? I should have trusted my gut and never applied for the increase. I'm a person of integrity, something this company lacks big time. I can't say it enough, the people are nice who answer, but trying to get anywhere with anyone is next to impossible. They said the reason for the 3-week delay is unknown, they have multiple people working on it and they are all communicating by email. SMH, it takes 1 individual who knows what they're doing to push the reflect to account button, they can't seem to find that button?

Long story short, if you're needing a tradeline with revolving credit for any of the many reasons, go with Open Sky or Capital One, Discover isn't accepted everywhere like visa and master card is. I'm not trying to knock the company, but they somehow lost $1,000 of my money which my bank confirms is in Discover's hands, but have zero answers but the same sob story I get every time I call. I will keep my current $500 card open, but I truly hope this reaches you and you find truth in this and what many other 1-star reviews are saying.

Been a reliable company in the past but DISCOVER has really let me down and as I been reading reviews after another reviews on this company just keep getting worse. I have been with DISCOVER for years and they simply refuse to give me a well-deserved credit line increase BUT they refuse and always have different criteria for the refusals and mostly don't even apply to my situation as they have a robot or computer decide if YOU are human enough to be responsible instead of hardcore proof such as never late, always on time and responsible pay history and etc.

If you are doing everything correct and still get appreciated and or rewarded with more credit spending power then not sure what hoops and tricks in this circus they want us to do! This is certainly a stay-away company for your credit card needs! Went to American Express and they treated me well with a starting credit line and open arms! DISCOVER has simply lost their good business antics and with kids literally young immature low paying customer service folks that simply don't care about anything but that paycheck at the end of the day.

My credit card account with Discover was closed due to "not being able to verify my identity". Discover says they have sent me numerous attempts to reach out and verify my information. I have checked all my records (and I don't delete emails or voicemails), and nothing from Discover on the dates they said they've contacted me. There is absolutely no legitimate grounds as to why my account should be closed, let alone not even reopened for consumer satisfaction, based on the reason. I will forever remain away from Discover and will never recommend this company to anyone ever again. I will even go as far as to deter anyone I know from using this company again as well. Posting my reviews online, let people see for themselves.

Received an alert that card was being used in August 2022, called Discover to report it wasn't me. They suspended the card immediately and stated that they'd send a new one, after 2-3 weeks later called to report that I didn't receive it and was told it was due to a payment being due that they could not send a card, made a payment and was told it would be sent out, couple weeks later called again to state, card had not been received to be that they could not send me a card unless, I called from the number from an extensive fraud alert, that was placed on my Transunion account, called Transunion, not sure how the fraud alert got there, sent them proof of address, copy of ID and a cover letter, called Transunion to verify receipt, the removed extended fraud alert, called Discover back and was told it wasn't removed, waited a week called back and refused to let customer service rep off the phone.

After he told me the same, called Transunion on home phone, verified the information on speaker while rep on mobile phone on speaker. He calmed his attitude and stated he'd heard and will do a soft transfer so that he can explain to a manager that he heard my conversation with Transunion and that he applauds me on how calm I am after reading the notes on how many times, I've called. Once transfered, I got a Manager on the phone, who stated to me that he told her that I needed a replacement card and they weren't able to send it cause, I had a fraud alert. She was just as unconcerned as all the other managers that I'd spoken to over the last 2 months. I have spent numerous hours on the phone, being transfered to unhelpful managers, having to explain my issue and many departments and inconsistency in the reasons for this issue, never a solution all though, I've done what was expected of me and 3 months later, no results in sight.

I've discovered after 2 months now that my payments I made over the telephone didn't actually get processed? I find my account has been closed and I call them and they tell me that they've sent me late reminders in email and they have not? In fact their automated system is broken and I have the evidence on my phone of proving I called in and paid my bill?! They reported me to the credit bureaus for their own automated error and refuse to take it off so I refuse to pay them.

They're thieves. I bet they get kickbacks from the credit companies to do this to people!! They said they can only take away the credit reports if it's their mistake!? It's definitely their mistake and I will sue their ** over this. I worked for 10 years to make my credit perfect and now when I need it they went out of their way to destroy it. Like I said I bet it's some con artist negotiation they have with the credit bureaus to do this to people. Avoid them at all cost. I've never had this problem with any other card.

Worst customer service I have ever dealt with. Also takes an arm and a leg to get a card set up and running. Took 2+ months to get my account verified including having multiple things notarized and mailed before my card was suddenly shut off before I ever even got to use it because of a bank statement not being verified without any notice in advance. Customer service said this could not be undone but I could open a new account and start the 3 month process all over again. Will never use discover again.

I signed up for credit card so I could finance a mountain bike with intro APR. I was approved for a $12000 limit with an instant line of credit through Apple Pay. I had the bike built but the card was declined, I called CS and they said the account was so new they couldn’t help me in anyway, I politely asked for a reference number for our conversation and was promptly hung up on. No big deal, I’ll put it on another credit card and have Discover fix it all in a couple days.

Two days later I called and asked to have the balance transfer fee waived so I could have zero APR to pay off this mountain bike, I was passed around to about eight different employees, two of whom admitted there were a lot of problems with the instant credit and something should be done, but ultimately the blame was placed on me since “Discover can decline any purchase for any reason”. I was also called “presumptuous” for thinking Discover would right their wrong and help me balance the transfer with no fee. Discover decided there was nothing they were willing to do or could do, whatever it actually was, and when I responded with “if nothing can be done I will cancel the card.” They swiftly responded “okay your card is canceled, have a good day.”

I was in complete disbelief and will never touch another Discover product with a ten foot pole. I am very polite and sympathetic to CS and have never had anything resembling this bad of a CS experience. I really wonder how they maintain their customer base after this and reading more of the reviews like this. C’est la vie.

Discover credit card is phony. Stay away from this company. If you dispute a charge they will side with the seller every time even if you didn't get what you paid for. Closed my account. Had a rewards balance of 59 dollars. They told me I would get a check for my rewards. They shipped me a check for one dollar. Called them. They said that's all I had in rewards. Phony bunch of liars. Stay clear.

I was a Discover Card holder for 9 years from 2001-2010 (among many others). My initial credit limit was $9,000.00 with a APR of 18%. As a rule, I always keep my credit balances low and pay the entire balance off every month and I have never missed a payment (with any of my credit cards). Every 2 years I would call customer service to request a lower interest rate and they denied the request every time. In 2006 my credit monitoring service stated that Discover Card was continually running a credit inquiry on 2 of the 3 credit bureaus every 90 days. Discover service rep explained that the inquiries are for periodic account reviews for the purpose of automatic credit limit increases, that I never received. In 2007 I requested a credit limit increase and was instantly approved for an additional $300.00! One $300 credit limit increase in 9 years with stellar credit (820).

In late 2009 I started receiving letters from Discover stating that my account will be closed if I do not use the card more frequently. I began rotating my credit cards for weekly trips to the grocery store and set my account for autopay. In 2010 Discover closed my credit account without warning, although customer service stated that 1 letter was mailed out and not returned. This account closure directly caused my credit score to decrease -23 points which also lowered my credit rating. I called Discover Card customer service to request a review of the account closure and the rep informed me that the only option is to re-apply for a new credit card account, which would again, just bring my credit score/rating down even further, so I declined. Unfortunately 12 years later every other day, I still receive multiple pre-approved credit card offers/invitations from discover (not exaggerating). Discover Card is the only credit card that I've ever had an issue with.

I paid for a hotel through Priceline.com that was cancelled by the hotel and resold. Consumer protection law states that if a product is NOT delivered, delivered damaged, or is not as advertised, then the non-refundable clause is not valid and the customer is entitled to a full refund. However, Discover told me that regardless of the amount of proof provided, they support the merchant unless the merchant agrees to refund the customer, which means that their claims of providing consumer protection are false, and they are forcing their customers to pay, though the law says otherwise.

I have been a customer for over 25 years. Raised my interest rate more than any other credit card I own. I don't want to hear it's because of the Fed. None of my other credit cards raised my rates the way you did!!!! Customer service did not care!!!! Do not choose this credit card!!!!

I’ve had a Discover card on and off for over 25 years customer. I had superb credit, as I’m careful only to spend what I can afford to pay off, usually many times within a month. I had to close/reopen a card due to loss and the old card got $20 charge that hit late. I was completely unaware and due to how they permit online accounts I had no real time online access to the old account. I only received one letter in the mail six months later, and quickly paid it, but they reported it delinquent. My credit score has declined by 70 points.

I've been a DISCOVER card holder since _1989_ (33 YEARS!!!), with never a late payment, never a complaint. I have always paid off my card every month. My credit score is exceptional (839). On Jan. 4, 2022, I ordered premium arch-support sneakers from an online vendor. They arrived Feb. 28, the wrong size (3 sizes too big), mislabeled, made of cheap polyvinyl, no arch support whatsoever. The merchant had presented completely fraudulent ads and reviews. Of course by the time they arrived, it was too late to return them according to the Chinese merchant's 10-day return policy.

So I disputed the $33.94 charge with DISCOVER. I provided 15 pages of evidence, including the original ad, photos, a shoe size chart, my correspondence, numerous critical consumer reviews of the company and its numerous fraudulent activities, yet DISCOVER sided with the merchant. The merchant made false claims about the shipping, they lied and said they did not see anything wrong in the photos I sent them. And DISCOVER agreed with them! I am in disbelief that DISCOVER backed a fraudulent merchant scammer over a loyal customer of 30 YEARS. Over $33.94? Where are the laws that are supposed to protect customers?

I have had a Discover card since 2003. I have never had a late payment and usually don't carry a balance. My credit rating until recently was 850. In April, my statements starting going to an old email address that I don't check anymore. After my payment was more than 30 days late and being reported to the credit reporting agencies, Discover called to alert me. I paid the bill immediately and in full. Now I see that that 1 late payment dropped my score to 752. When I called to inquire why no-one called me until after the payment was >30 days late, customer service said they sent a few emails, (to the email address that I clearly wasn't checking), and that there was nothing they could do except send a request up the chain that they consider starting to call customers when payments are late and they are not responding to emails. My wife and I are cancelling our Discover accounts. We won't do business with a company that treats their clients like this.

So we all know things happen, sometimes it is unforeseen. In 2000 I got a divorce and the X walked away without paying anything he was supposed to leaving me to flounder and attempt to take care of everything. Needless to say that didn't happen. I bring this up because it is 2022 and 22 years later I am still being hounded by Discover card. I have paid in thousands of dollars because they get a garnishment. While I understand it was my responsibility to take care of this I had 2 children, was a single mother and one income. No child support and it wasn't possible. 18 years later I am still being harassed by them because they sued me for breach of contact. So beware if something bad happens in your life and you can't pay them they will hound you forever. So when choosing a card please do yourself a favor and think twice. I wish I had never had this card.

I opened a Discover checking account around June 28, and they decided to close it on July 25 for "suspicious activity". I did absolutely nothing wrong, and now they won't return my money for 60 days. I cannot wait 60 days, who can? I called everyday between July 25 - July 29, and no one could help me get the money faster or even an explanation as to what happened. Someone told me I would receive a letter in the mail stating what happened (implying it would come before my money), but then someone told me today that letter would not come until my check came with it.

As a long time user of Discover, 20+ years, I have noticed a notable drop in customer service since last year. I can no longer pay from my online bank as it takes 2-3 weeks for them to post the payments to my account. Also, there is no online method to contact them, have to wait on phone line and their text messaging is only a bot for answers. I am now searching for a replacement for this credit card.

When I reached Discover, I was unable to help because the merchant showed proof of delivery. However, the merchant delivered the wrong address. I am closing all my DDA and CC accounts with Discover.

They keep sending checks in the mail which get stolen by thieves and cashed. After several calls to them ending in them saying they would reimburse the money, I gave up. I even sent them video of the thief stealing the check from my mailbox. I am now forced to pay the amount stolen and it was not even my fault. I immediately caught the first transaction of $60 and called them. The security dept. did nothing and the next couple days ANOTHER $500 amount from a check was posted. I instantly froze my card after this and called them. They said the same thing that I would be reimbursed but nothing happened. I was however, able to dispute the $500 charge on the website and it was reimbursed. I contacted them five times with no avail. As far as the remaining $60, all I received from the security dept. were lies, saying the money would be reimburse the next day.

I never asked for promo checks to be sent in the mail and personally think sending them is moronic and puts me in a very concerning situation where I can potentially lose a lot of money. I am forced to freeze my card for life since closing it would negatively affect my credit history. The promo checks keep coming and after my experience of not being reimburse from a theft that was 100% Discover's fault. I am done with this bank and will avoid all banks that put me in any situation where I can lose money from a result of the bank's stupidity.

I applied because I needed help with my credit, after I was charged I didn’t get an email or anything for 3 weeks, called confirmed address and they said wait 2 more weeks for it to arrive, after it didn’t called again and they had to confirm the address again because it was wrong. Waited to more weeks and the address hadn’t been updated, asked for it to cancel and they don’t refund directly they send a check which takes 7 to 10 days. Felt like a total waste of time and hopefully it only happens to me, never applying for Discover again.

I just opened an account with them, less than a month ago. They froze my account, I have no idea why because you can't get a person on the phone. Their phone system hangs up on you after 3 hours of waiting. I have been on hold with them for over 15 hours and have yet to get a person. The customer service people just say sorry and there is nothing they can do, you have to speak to the fraud department. They refuse to let you speak to a supervisor and I have received 3 different answers on what the hours are for the fraud department. I found a number to call for the Customer Advocacy Group, I called it, in the middle of the day and guess what, I got a message that said no one was available and to leave a message. I just want to close my account and my money back. DO NOT OPEN AN ACCOUNT AT DISCOVER.

I booked a specific location space, and reservation with a residential company. The company booked me in a location I did not ask for. It is now six months later and Discover did not do its due diligence to get the specific information to resolve the situation. They believed what the merchant said and looked at the documentation, which clearly did not validate the location I booked. The merchant was not cooperative and also did not do their due diligence. I did not have time to do their jobs for them. However it was obvious after three attempts with Discover, they were not going to assist me, their customer.

Today, I found specific documentation to validate my claim and clarify the situation. I called them and was hung up on three times. I just wanted them to do their jobs and do the due diligence that I spent my time doing. This is a 1,700 error on their part. I will update this IF they get their jobs done. I don't have much faith in them. Capital One would never to this. I have learned.

I had a Discover card and I ran in to some financial hardships. I contacted Discover to let them know and asked if I could get a lower monthly amount due. They were beyond rude and basically told me that it was my problem, not theirs. Because of their unwillingness to work with me I ended up going to one of those debt consolidation companies. I gave them all the information about the company I decided to use several times and they refused to acknowledge them and refused to contact them. The more that I tried to give the information to them the nastier they got!!

They filed a small claims case against me instead of contacting the finance company!! I contacted the finance company and they're going to try to negotiate a settlement for me. They always advertise how they're willing to do anything to help their customers but that's a big joke!! Instead of having their customers back they stab them in it!! Totally worthless company!! Do yourself a favor and get a different credit card!! These people are out to get you instead of being there to help you!!! Avoid this company at all costs!!
