About BrightWay

OneMain Financial, best known for its personal loans, also offers two credit cards: BrightWay and BrightWay+. These cards are currently available for select customers, but OneMain has plans to expand access soon. Cardholders get unlimited 1% cash back and can qualify for a reduced annual percentage rate or increased credit limit when they make six consecutive payments on time.     I’ve been waiting since November 3, 2025 for a card to arrive. It has been 13 days since it was sent out a second time and still no card as of November 29th. Trying to get a hold of a representative is frustrating and difficult. You shouldn’t have to go through so many prompts. I was really looking forward to this card because it had potential and the rewards.

    Brightway Credit Card is a FRAUD!! How is it that I have a credit card limit of $500 but the card DECLINES? Your customer service reps are uneducated and ignorant! Please note that this will be reported to the Better Business Bureau!!! Your supervisors are being taught to lie to the consumers!!! I would never recommend your services to anyone!!!

    I have about 4 credit cards and this is the worse! Their rewards suck! I have had them for a year now and the first 6 months they gave me a $50 increase. The lowest increase I have ever seen. The next 6 months I got a .5% APR decrease! There is no incentive to have this card.

    By far the worst credit card I ever had. I notified them about my travels. When I finally got to the place they flagged my transaction and said it was irreversible. My kids and I had to sleep in the car because I was counting on this card. Please do yourself a favor and do not get this card. Good thing I had money for gas because I couldn't even use it for gas. This card is useless. The customer service one of the worst I ever seen.

    Zero. This is a fraudulent credit card company. They took my annual fee and the card never worked. I canceled the card. They falsely promised to refund my fee and no refund ever materialized. Avoid this company at all costs, they are crooks.

    Paid entire card balance in full one week ago. Still shows $0 available balance. For customer service there is no phone number or live chat. You can only send an e-mail. Over 24 hours and still no reply.

    I would give them zero stars if I could. Customer Service reads from a script and it’s like they have no mind to think on their own. I made a payment four days ago, it has cleared my bank and posted to the account, yet a supposed supervisor (after verifying, she can see that the funds were released by my bank) told me they will be holding it for 10 more days in case I decide to put a stop payment on it. How ridiculous!! Did this lady just call me a potential thief? I’ve had the card for a year and a half and never once stopped a payment lol what a ridiculous assumption. I’ve never even been 30 days, so to assume your customers are thieves says you likely have some very shady characters working at your company. Run as far away as you can from this card.

    Unsatisfactory and Discriminatory Experience with BrightWay One Main Financial Customer Service. I’m writing to share a disappointing experience I had when attempting to change my address on my BrightWay One Main Financial credit card account. I contacted customer service and spoke with two supervisors, Darrell (employee #**) and John (employee #**), to update my address. After providing the new address, Darrell told me I needed to send an email instead. When I requested to speak with another supervisor—since the app indicated a simple phone call should suffice—Darrell told me any other supervisor would say the same. He then transferred the call to John.

    John refused to change my address without a government-issued state ID. In my experience, this was the first time I had ever been asked for such documentation to update my address on a credit card account. I told him I did not want to provide my ID and would rather close the account. He responded that he would be glad to process the cancellation. I felt singled out and targeted during this process because of my Hispanic accent and name. Last year, I was able to change my address over the phone with no issues and without having to send a government-issued ID. This recent treatment felt discriminatory and left me feeling unwelcome as a customer. I am formally lodging a complaint regarding the conduct of these two employees. I hope BrightWay One Main Financial takes this feedback seriously and reconsiders its customer service approach in the future.

    Horrible card... every transaction gets declined as high risk... still haven't been able use the card. Customer service is no help. Even after verifying I'm making the purchase they say there's nothing they can do...

    This is how Brightway is doing. I have auto pay, and they have my account block, so they can get late fees. I pay them two hundred dollars. The first time they took four hundred, and now I have a block! They want my bank statement to see what's in my account in order to remove block. They are getting late fees like crazy. I'm trying to paid them off, but can't with the block.

    I started out with a 500 credit limit and was increased to 1000. So I'm excited to see what will be my next increase. Haven't had any issues with this card. Knock on wood. So I would recommend this card to anyone who is trying to rebuild their credit.

    A transaction that I was trying to make on Airbnb was decline and flagged as fraud. Even though I confirmed it was me that was trying to make this purchase through a reputable site (Airbnb) customer service and supervisor stated that I could not make any purchases on that site. I am furious. There is no reason why I shouldn’t be able to make any purchase that I want to make for my family’s vacation!!!

    I received over 20 texts and emails this past week reminding me that my payment was coming due. The payment was scheduled in their app a week previously. After all of the harassment, I tried to log into the app and move the date of payment up. The app will not allow me to login any longer. It will also not send a password reset link. I called Customer Service, spent half an hour on the phone with someone who continued to blame me and my devices for the fact that I could not access their app. I was told to try another device. I tried four devices. I deleted the app. Waited an hour reinstalled the app and still was unable to login. I called customer service again. Only to spend 45 minutes on the phone being blamed for my devices and the fact that I could not login, the fact that I could not login on their website, which provides a message saying that online login is not available, please use their app.

    I was assured that the problem was entirely in my end. I deleted the app again waited 24 hours and reinstalled it and still cannot access the account. I have no way of knowing if the payment went through yesterday. I have now created a manual payment through my bank for which I am sure they will give me a late charge. I pointed out to the operator yesterday that there is clearly a reason why they have such a very low rating here on Consumer Affairs and in general on the Internet. Apparently their motto is that the customer is always wrong.

    Brightest card is the worst card ever!!!! They will give you a late fee because there is no grace period even hours after the due date. It is unfair to the customer in every way. I do not recommend this card to anyone. Be aware this card will take all your money and it doesn’t matter what you may be going through in your life!!!! Hate you Bright Way!!!!

    This credit company sucks, I made a payment 2 days ahead of schedule on a weekday and they charged me a late fee and held my funds for 7 days because their system takes too long to process payments and they also then put fraud alerts on your card not once but twice in one day while using your card in the same area code as home and the customer service reps have no clue on how to resolve any of the issues (which they are causing), that you're calling them about and they just keep you on hold until l you get tired of being on the phone.

    This company is the worst when it comes to disputes. I had a charge to my account in which the merchant agreed that it should be reversed but because I put in the dispute with the card company first - the merchant could not reverse the charge. It is taking this company 90 days to resolve this, with a letter from the merchant. I work in finance and have never seen this type of delay and pushback from assisting YOUR customer.

    I am at my six month in and should be receiving my incentive now after I just made my six payment yesterday. It alerted me this morning that I will be able to choose my incentive before my next billing cycle. I have had no issues with this card yet. I started off with a credit limit of $750. From what I have read, my choices for my milestone graduation will be either lower APR or higher credit limit. Haven’t decided yet, because then I get to choose again in another 6 months yet again! I do know they won’t let you get lower than 19.99 for an APR, so do keep that in mind.

    I am a Brightway customer. I have NOT had the negative experiences that everyone is posting about. I am at month 6 of on time payments and should receive some incentive. I have not gotten it yet however I will update about it once I do.... What I will say is that the card payment processing has been straightforward. The credit limit is low. At least they do offer an incentive (I have been with Capital One for years and they have never offered me anything... Just saying). I hope that everyone who is trying to maintain their credit finds their way. It can be tricky out here.

    Four months ago I closed this with a .29 credit balance. They sent a check for .29. I never heard from them again. They charged me .50 per month totalling $2. Today, I was notified by Experian that they turned my account over for non-payment lowering my score by 45 points! When I called, they said that was not their practice and I should never have been charged that fee. This is fraud!

    Worst card I've ever had. First time using the card after activation: Declined. Received a text and email asking if it was me using the card. I select "yes", transaction goes through. Attempted to use it the next day for around $50 in groceries. Declined again. No text or email. App says there's a fraud alert, so call the number provided. It says no fraud alert. So I call support. After long wait times, I opted to let the system call me back. It didn't. Called support again, twice since the 1st time the rep dropped me on the 'fraud verification line' that already stated there was no fraud alert, and they can't figure it out and said it would be 5-7 business days since the issue had to be escalated.

    BrightWay credit card has recently undergone system issues which have negatively impacted payment posting times, credit reporting as well as available credit. All they say is they are working on fixing all of this with no eta. This is the reason I gave them 1 star. Would have given them zero if I could!

    This company is unorganized, unprofessional and as crooked as it comes. My payment was due on 1/16/25 and my payment posted to my account on 1/15/25 (per the company's mobile app). They have now charged me an LPC. When I called to dispute the charge on 1/17/25 I was told that due to a system update there was nothing that could be done. I was also told that any payments made through the mobile app the company cannot see. Say what??! Yes, that is what she told me. Since my issue had not been resolved, I requested to speak with a supervisor. I was placed on hold, only for the representative to tell me that there was no one available. She took my phone number and told me that someone would call me back.

    I called back the next day (Saturday) as I had not heard from anyone. The rep did not apologize for the company's failure to return my requested call and told me again that there was nothing that could be done to remove the LPC due to a system update. As of this review, I have not heard from anyone. As of this morning (1/20/25), I received my new statement, and I have been charged interest based on a balance that includes an illegitimate LPC. I went onto the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's website today and I have filed a complaint. Hopefully they can resolve this issue. As soon as my card is paid off, I am cancelling it. I don't care how it impacts my credit score. Stay far away from this company!!

    This credit card has been nothing short of a major disappointment. The customer service is abysmal, with long wait times and unhelpful representatives who seem unable to resolve basic issues. The rewards program is incredibly stingy, offering minimal benefits even with high spending, and the interest rates are significantly higher than other cards on the market. Avoid this card at all costs; it's simply not worth the frustration. They will return your payment and say that it's your fault. So they don't have to give you an increase, watch out. Beware. I hope I can save somebody from getting this problem. If they do not reach out to me to fix this, I will not change this review. You call the customer service and the floor service manager. It's very rude and hangs up on me.

    The card promised a lot, but delivered very little, after 6 months of perfect acct in which they hype rewards for perfect payment record, my reward was a 100 dollar credit increases or a rate reduction of .025 percent decrease on my 35 percent interest on credit card. I took the paltry credit increases, at this point it take me 10 years to get a 1500 credit line from my original 500 credit line. It's not worth it.

    Worst card. I got my card stolen And all of sudden my minimum payment is due for second time. Operator said everything is fine and I told operator I am paying 35 per month. I was told my AC is ok. Again I get email of minimum payment due not done plus fine.

    This is a horrible card to apply for. Horrible customer service. I had "fraudulent" activity on my card... Never even used it. Supposedly was sent a request to report the fraudulent activity, in which I knew nothing of. And how would I know that if I never reported it. The said company closed my account because I didn't give them the requested info on the said fraudulent activity. This company is fraudulent as far I'm concerned. Don't waste your time. Horrible company.

    I pay my bills at the beginning of every month since I get paid first week of the month. My bill is due on the 26th, so I paid my bill on the 1st and then when I looked at my statement this morning I see they charged me a late fee for the month of Nov and now it will happen again after a phone call this morning to ask about the late charge and how that be when bill was paid on Nov 1st. Apparently they don't accept early payments. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and will be closing my account immediately after I hear back from the BBB. Stay away from this credit card company and the company ONE WAY that sponsors this card. Big ripoff company.

    I received the card and decided to activate it for fuel emergencies on the road. I never received a pin and fuel prices in NV/CA are much lower as debit, no pin, no discount. I have called multiple times, no assist. I finally called again, after paying a fee for a card I never used AND also PAID INTEREST ON THEIR CHARGES!!!! I advise folks to run, not walk away!! I can have a pin IF I wait 7/10 days, I’m on the road, cancelled card. I will let everyone know if I ever see a refund and/or am harassed until I pay a fee AND interest without EVER using this card, AGAIN!!

    High yearly fee which wouldn't bother me if every month they wouldn't put a hold on card preventing me from using because fraud put a random hold on it. Taking 5-14 days to be able to use card again. App is easy to use but customer service is a joke, 1 hour hold time just to be told, "We couldn't get a hold of fraud team. Let me escalate your issue to higher ups. It will be 5-7 business days."
