What is BrightWay?

BrightWay and BrightWay+ are Mastercard credit cards offered by OneMain Financial. The BrightWay card is intended for those who are building credit. The BrightWay+ card has a higher credit limit and is for customers with more established credit.

Both cards feature 1% cashback rewards and “Milestone Benefits” — a choice between an APR reduction or a credit limit increase — when you make six consecutive on-time payments of at least the minimum due amount.

Currently, OneMain Financial only offers the cards to select customers, including certain borrowers of the company’s personal loans. OneMain plans to expand availability soon.

How does BrightWay work?

If you received an offer by mail to apply for BrightWay, you can enter the 11-character code online. If you don’t have the code, you can provide your last name, ZIP code and the last four digits of your Social Security number to look it up.

Next, you fill out your application. Once you finish the application, you’ll find out if you’re approved for a card within seconds. Depending on your credit history, income and debt, you may be eligible for the BrightWay card or the BrightWay+ card.

If you’re approved, your BrightWay card will arrive by mail in five to seven business days. If it doesn't arrive within a week, you should contact OneMain Financial by phone. When you receive the card, you can activate it using the BrightWay app. This app also allows you to track spending, payments and rewards.

With a BrightWay card, you're automatically enrolled in the rewards program. You get unlimited 1% cash back on qualifying purchases, which is credited to your account at the end of each billing cycle.

The BrightWay card also has a “Milestone Benefits” program. After you make six consecutive on-time payments, you achieve a “Milestone Event.” OneMain Financial then allows you to choose either an APR reduction or a credit limit increase.

If you have the BrightWay card, achieving four Milestone Events means you can graduate to a BrightWay+ card.

BrightWay rates

The BrightWay credit card has an APR of 26.99% on purchases, cash advances and balance transfers. Once you reach a Milestone Event, OneMain Financial may allow you to reduce your APR, but it won't go below 19.99%, according to the terms of the rewards program. To avoid paying interest, you need to pay your card balance in full by the due date each month.

BrightWay credit cards have an annual fee that ranges from $0 to $65. Here are other fees to be aware of:

  • Cash advance: 3% of the cash advance or $10 — whichever amount is greater
  • Balance transfer: 3% of the transfer amount or $10 — whichever is greater
  • Foreign transaction: 1% of each transaction (in U.S. dollars)
  • Late payment: Up to $40
  • Replacement card: Up to $25

BrightWay FAQ

What is the credit limit for BrightWay?

The BrightWay card has a credit limit up to $500. The BrightWay+ card has a credit limit up to $3,000. You can increase your credit limit through Milestone Benefits, but it can’t exceed $15,000.

Does BrightWay have cashback rewards?

BrightWay offers unlimited 1% cashback rewards. The rewards are automatically credited to your account at the end of a billing cycle.

What bank is associated with BrightWay?

BrightWay and BrightWay+ cards are associated with OneMain Financial. The BrightWay card is issued by WebBank.

Who can get a BrightWay credit card?

Currently, it’s only possible to get a BrightWay credit card if you receive an offer from OneMain Financial. OneMain is only offering a limited number of cards but plans to expand availability soon.

Still have questions?

Is BrightWay worth it?

The BrightWay credit card is worth considering if you receive an offer to apply. The card has a number of perks, like unlimited 1% cash back and the opportunity to earn Milestone Benefits (lower APR or higher credit limit). If you start with the BrightWay card and make on-time payments, you eventually can upgrade to the BrightWay+ card, which has no annual fee and a higher credit limit. Compare BrightWay with offers from other card companies to choose the credit card that’s right for you.

This has been the absolute worst experience. I was accepted for a card and waited on it. A while had past and still no card, but I still had the annual fee waiting for me. I called and told them. They said another would be sent. Several weeks later, still no card. Meanwhile, I still needed to pay the annual fee. Their app is useless. When you call the main line, it is impossible to get ahold of someone. They have promised another card... We will see if it gets here. I have never had a problem with items being delivered to me.

At first no issues. Payments made ahead due date. The company hit me up with another August payment. Called customer service person. Talked circles. When asked where person located response was "off shore ". When asked where company located first it was Massachusetts then it was Indiana. When I told the person I planned on contacting BBB they wanted to close my account. I have proof I paid all my payments and I was more or less forced into paying another August payment. My advice don't take the Brightway Card. They scam you. I will be sending same complaint to BBB.

I said, "I am calling you because I can't access my card online and I am the customer." They said, "Even if you close your card you will still get charged for autopay." What kind of scam is this? Any other card I have said, sure no problem. What kind of company says, "No we cannot turn off your autopay." Then fix this site so I can do it.

Absolutely horrible experience with this company. I moved and tried to change my address by calling them. I got a hold of someone eventually. It took several minutes. The person I talked to that I could barely understand said they were unable to change my address and I would have to call back and talk to the verification department. I called back and again got a hold of someone I could barely understand who also said they couldn't help me change my address. They did however at least transfer me to the verification department. The verification department was also unable to change my address. They said I would have to go onto a website and upload my ID, phone bill, and utility bill.

Even though I had already verified my social security number, birthdate, phone number, Email address, and street address. Really!!! Then I get an email saying that if I don't provide my ID, phone bill, and utility bill within 30 days they would be closing my account. So you can open the account with your social security number and birthday but you can't change your address with it??? I had no problem changing my address with any of my other credit card companies. This is the only one that is this ridiculously hard if not almost impossible to do. They also have a ridiculously high interest rate so I guess they are doing me a favor by angering to the point I want nothing to do with this company.

I changed my phone number on their app site and Brightway put a block on my account. To unblock they required the front/back of my driver license and copy of my phone bill. I sent photos of both via email. Two days letter, they want something else showing my address. I sent a letter head from the Veterans Administration. Two more days later (today) they want a copy of a utility bill. Enough, of this, I called to close this account.

Worst mistake I have made in awhile. I joined Brightway Credit card a few years ago to help establish better credit and made every payment on time and it was working. Got it up to almost 700 and figured with other things I had I did not need it anymore. So I closed the account in December of 25 and they owed me like $1.64 and was told I'd get a check in the mail. In May of 2026 I started getting text and emails I was late on my payment for an account that was closed? I had to call Brightway over ten times to be told every time it was taken care of only to get more reminders I was late on my payment. Finally on the tenth attempt they stopped. Today I went to buy a investment property and found out my credit took a hit of 50 points due to late payments to Brightway and One Main. Now this house will probably sell before this can be sorted out and all because of this gross incompetence.

Currently seeking guidance to file complaints at the executive compliance level at OneMain and with the Consumer Financial Credit Protection Bureau due to submitting payments via the app, showing as posted, then returned on the same day. A call with a representative indicated several customers having issues with the app and recommending making the payments via phone. However, changing the amount of payment via the app also caused a returned payment the same day two more times. This has now been reported to my credit, as non payment, drastically impacting my score. I submitted a new payment, each time a higher amount to cover the fees.

The last payment posted of $200 on Jun 10, on Jun 12 funds were still not drafted from my account. Today, fund still available, the app shows the payment as returned, there are more than $4k in the account. Calling to OneMain branch recommended to call and place a complaint. I have been on hold for more than 25 minutes and no one has answered yet. At this pace, I will soon have a 60 day mark on my credit for non-payment when I have evidence of submitting payments since April.

I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by OneMain Financial and BrightWay. I applied for a credit card and received an official denial stating that I was not approved. Based on this, I understood that no account or product had been opened in my name. However, I later began receiving SMS notifications about a “BrightWay card payment due” and other account-related alerts that I was never informed about. It also appears that a customer account was created without my clear knowledge, even though I never received or activated any physical card. If it were not for these messages, I would have had no idea that there was supposedly an active account or any financial obligation, including a potential annual fee.

In addition, my experience with customer service was extremely frustrating and unacceptable. I called support to clarify the situation and request information about the card. The call lasted about an hour, during which I was transferred multiple times between different agents. Each representative asked me the same verification questions repeatedly, forcing me to go through the same information over and over again.

Overall, I was passed through several departments without receiving any clear or consistent explanation. The final representative was also unable to provide a proper resolution, and the communication quality was poor. Overall, my experience has been extremely negative: lack of transparency, disorganized customer service, and failure to properly inform customers about the actual status of accounts or financial obligations. I find this level of service completely unacceptable for a financial institution.

One main BrightWay credit card is a scam. I was approved for $1500 in October 2025. I didn’t use my card much but I went out of state which is only 29 miles from my house to pay an electric bill at my other house. BrightWay put a fraud alert on the card and sent me an email saying I needed to verify my account with two government issued IDs so I emailed back my drivers license and Social Security card and they said they couldn’t verify it. Why not. It’s a state of Georgia drivers license and it’s a government issued Social Security card that I received when I was born then they said they were closing my account. I never missed a payment. I was always on time. I even paid a few days before my payment was due. They closed my account.

Stay away from this credit card company because if you use your card anywhere they’re gonna put fraud alerts on it and have excuses to close it. I have documents to prove I did not use that card much and the day that I use the card to pay my other electric bill at my other house was when the Alert went out. Scam scam scam. Not worth the headache.

I have had this card three weeks and it already is the worst card I have ever owned. I made a payment that was double the required amount because for a reason I have no answer for, my first initial payment didn't go through and was returned. So instead of $115, I paid $300. Now I only have a $500 balance mind you. My payment shows under transactions as paid, my STATEMENT shows available credit as it should be, but I cannot use my card because it is showing a negative balance on my app which they say will take TWO WEEKS to clear. WHAT?!? Soooo, you get your money for my balance but I don't get to use my card?!? Not to mention, the app has the same message at the top of my screen stating my card should have been delivered by whatever date....I have already activated, used and made a payment on such card....REMOVE the annoying message at the top!

Also, I wanted to pick my own pin code....Got the one in the mail, called the number and they are sorry for the inconvenience. They are working on an issue with the ability to change the pin code via the phone (trying in the app, tells you to call the phone #). This has been this way since I received the card weeks ago! Your card is NOT user friendly at all. In fact, there should be more consumer complaints that initiate a claim suit, so maybe I should consult an attorney about their practices?!?

I’ve personally held this card now for 19 months, starting with a modest $500 credit line. Over that time, I’ve received two $100 credit line increases and most recently a $50 increase—which frankly caught me off guard. By comparison, my primary card with Prosper opened at $700, then increased by $900 after six months, followed by another $900 just 90 days later, bringing that line to $2,500. What’s puzzling is the disparity. I’ve never missed a payment, consistently pay well above the minimum, and maintain a credit score in the lower 700's. It’s not perfect, but it’s solid, showing responsibility to repay my debts—and certainly not indicative of such a conservative adjustment. This isn’t a bad card by any stretch, but a sub-$1,000 limit is operationally impractical for how I actually use credit.

I routinely put cards to work for domestic and international flights, extended hotel stays, and vehicle rentals—transactions that easily exceed $1,000 each as I travel frequently for work. Because of the current limit, this card has been relegated to minor, incidental spending like food and beverage rather than being used as a true primary or travel instrument. Hopefully a more meaningful increase—at least $250—comes soon, because anything less doesn’t align with real-world usage.

Unsatisfactory and Discriminatory Experience with BrightWay One Main Financial Customer Service. I’m writing to share a disappointing experience I had when attempting to change my address on my BrightWay One Main Financial credit card account. I contacted customer service and spoke with two supervisors, Darrell (employee #**) and John (employee #**), to update my address. After providing the new address, Darrell told me I needed to send an email instead. When I requested to speak with another supervisor—since the app indicated a simple phone call should suffice—Darrell told me any other supervisor would say the same. He then transferred the call to John.

John refused to change my address without a government-issued state ID. In my experience, this was the first time I had ever been asked for such documentation to update my address on a credit card account. I told him I did not want to provide my ID and would rather close the account. He responded that he would be glad to process the cancellation. I felt singled out and targeted during this process because of my Hispanic accent and name. Last year, I was able to change my address over the phone with no issues and without having to send a government-issued ID. This recent treatment felt discriminatory and left me feeling unwelcome as a customer. I am formally lodging a complaint regarding the conduct of these two employees. I hope BrightWay One Main Financial takes this feedback seriously and reconsiders its customer service approach in the future.

After all of the harassment, I tried to log into the app and move the date of payment up. The app will not allow me to login any longer. It will also not send a password reset link. I called Customer Service, spent half an hour on the phone with someone who continued to blame me and my devices for the fact that I could not access their app. I was told to try another device. I tried four devices. I deleted the app. Waited an hour reinstalled the app and still was unable to login. I called customer service again. Only to spend 45 minutes on the phone being blamed for my devices and the fact that I could not login, the fact that I could not login on their website, which provides a message saying that online login is not available, please use their app.

I was assured that the problem was entirely in my end. I deleted the app again waited 24 hours and reinstalled it and still cannot access the account. I have no way of knowing if the payment went through yesterday. I have now created a manual payment through my bank for which I am sure they will give me a late charge. I pointed out to the operator yesterday that there is clearly a reason why they have such a very low rating here on Consumer Affairs and in general on the Internet. Apparently their motto is that the customer is always wrong.

Brightest card is the worst card ever!!!! They will give you a late fee because there is no grace period even hours after the due date. It is unfair to the customer in every way. I do not recommend this card to anyone. Be aware this card will take all your money and it doesn’t matter what you may be going through in your life!!!! Hate you Bright Way!!!!

This credit company sucks, I made a payment 2 days ahead of schedule on a weekday and they charged me a late fee and held my funds for 7 days because their system takes too long to process payments and they also then put fraud alerts on your card not once but twice in one day while using your card in the same area code as home and the customer service reps have no clue on how to resolve any of the issues (which they are causing), that you're calling them about and they just keep you on hold until l you get tired of being on the phone.

This company is the worst when it comes to disputes. I had a charge to my account in which the merchant agreed that it should be reversed but because I put in the dispute with the card company first - the merchant could not reverse the charge. It is taking this company 90 days to resolve this, with a letter from the merchant. I work in finance and have never seen this type of delay and pushback from assisting YOUR customer.

I am at my six month in and should be receiving my incentive now after I just made my six payment yesterday. It alerted me this morning that I will be able to choose my incentive before my next billing cycle. I have had no issues with this card yet. I started off with a credit limit of $750. From what I have read, my choices for my milestone graduation will be either lower APR or higher credit limit. Haven’t decided yet, because then I get to choose again in another 6 months yet again! I do know they won’t let you get lower than 19.99 for an APR, so do keep that in mind.

I am a Brightway customer. I have NOT had the negative experiences that everyone is posting about. I am at month 6 of on time payments and should receive some incentive. I have not gotten it yet however I will update about it once I do.... What I will say is that the card payment processing has been straightforward. The credit limit is low. At least they do offer an incentive (I have been with Capital One for years and they have never offered me anything... Just saying). I hope that everyone who is trying to maintain their credit finds their way. It can be tricky out here.
