The annual fee on a BrightWay card ranges from $0 to $65.

What is BrightWay?

BrightWay and BrightWay+ are Mastercard credit cards offered by OneMain Financial. The BrightWay card is intended for those who are building credit. The BrightWay+ card has a higher credit limit and is for customers with more established credit.

Both cards feature 1% cashback rewards and “Milestone Benefits” — a choice between an APR reduction or a credit limit increase — when you make six consecutive on-time payments of at least the minimum due amount.

Currently, OneMain Financial only offers the cards to select customers, including certain borrowers of the company’s personal loans. OneMain plans to expand availability soon.

How does BrightWay work?

If you received an offer by mail to apply for BrightWay, you can enter the 11-character code online. If you don’t have the code, you can provide your last name, ZIP code and the last four digits of your Social Security number to look it up.

Next, you fill out your application. Once you finish the application, you’ll find out if you’re approved for a card within seconds. Depending on your credit history, income and debt, you may be eligible for the BrightWay card or the BrightWay+ card.

If you’re approved, your BrightWay card will arrive by mail in five to seven business days. If it doesn't arrive within a week, you should contact OneMain Financial by phone. When you receive the card, you can activate it using the BrightWay app. This app also allows you to track spending, payments and rewards.

With a BrightWay card, you're automatically enrolled in the rewards program. You get unlimited 1% cash back on qualifying purchases, which is credited to your account at the end of each billing cycle.

The BrightWay card also has a “Milestone Benefits” program. After you make six consecutive on-time payments, you achieve a “Milestone Event.” OneMain Financial then allows you to choose either an APR reduction or a credit limit increase.

If you have the BrightWay card, achieving four Milestone Events means you can graduate to a BrightWay+ card.

BrightWay rates

The BrightWay credit card has an APR of 26.99% on purchases, cash advances and balance transfers. Once you reach a Milestone Event, OneMain Financial may allow you to reduce your APR, but it won't go below 19.99%, according to the terms of the rewards program. To avoid paying interest, you need to pay your card balance in full by the due date each month.

BrightWay credit cards have an annual fee that ranges from $0 to $65. Here are other fees to be aware of:

  • Cash advance: 3% of the cash advance or $10 — whichever amount is greater
  • Balance transfer: 3% of the transfer amount or $10 — whichever is greater
  • Foreign transaction: 1% of each transaction (in U.S. dollars)
  • Late payment: Up to $40
  • Replacement card: Up to $25

Still have questions?

Is BrightWay worth it?

The BrightWay credit card is worth considering if you receive an offer to apply. The card has a number of perks, like unlimited 1% cash back and the opportunity to earn Milestone Benefits (lower APR or higher credit limit). If you start with the BrightWay card and make on-time payments, you eventually can upgrade to the BrightWay+ card, which has no annual fee and a higher credit limit. Compare BrightWay with offers from other card companies to choose the credit card that’s right for you.

I see the complaints but so far, I'm very satisfied with the service. Waiting to see what kind of increase I will receive once I pay my 6th payment.

Garbage card, garbage company! Not worth it. If you want stress and anxiety in your life, then go ahead and get it. There are other companies out there that are much better than them, And you would do better to stay away from the BrightWay card.

I am extremely disappointed with the service provided by OneMain Financial and BrightWay. I applied for a credit card and received an official denial stating that I was not approved. Based on this, I understood that no account or product had been opened in my name. However, I later began receiving SMS notifications about a “BrightWay card payment due” and other account-related alerts that I was never informed about. It also appears that a customer account was created without my clear knowledge, even though I never received or activated any physical card. If it were not for these messages, I would have had no idea that there was supposedly an active account or any financial obligation, including a potential annual fee.

In addition, my experience with customer service was extremely frustrating and unacceptable. I called support to clarify the situation and request information about the card. The call lasted about an hour, during which I was transferred multiple times between different agents. Each representative asked me the same verification questions repeatedly, forcing me to go through the same information over and over again.

Overall, I was passed through several departments without receiving any clear or consistent explanation. The final representative was also unable to provide a proper resolution, and the communication quality was poor. Overall, my experience has been extremely negative: lack of transparency, disorganized customer service, and failure to properly inform customers about the actual status of accounts or financial obligations. I find this level of service completely unacceptable for a financial institution.

I see the complaints , but I have not had a single issue. Approaching my 4th milestone in a couple months. Got invitation for card 2024. $500. Made all payments. 6 months another $250. To $750 limit. 2nd milestone $200 increase to $950. 3rd milestone $500 increase. To $1450 limit. Waiting on last milestone. Set up automatic payments and there won't be issues ever. Don’t max it out. Most transparent credit card ever.

One main BrightWay credit card is a scam. I was approved for $1500 in October 2025. I didn’t use my card much but I went out of state which is only 29 miles from my house to pay an electric bill at my other house. BrightWay put a fraud alert on the card and sent me an email saying I needed to verify my account with two government issued IDs so I emailed back my drivers license and Social Security card and they said they couldn’t verify it. Why not. It’s a state of Georgia drivers license and it’s a government issued Social Security card that I received when I was born then they said they were closing my account. I never missed a payment. I was always on time. I even paid a few days before my payment was due. They closed my account.

Stay away from this credit card company because if you use your card anywhere they’re gonna put fraud alerts on it and have excuses to close it. I have documents to prove I did not use that card much and the day that I use the card to pay my other electric bill at my other house was when the Alert went out. Scam scam scam. Not worth the headache.

I have had this card three weeks and it already is the worst card I have ever owned. I made a payment that was double the required amount because for a reason I have no answer for, my first initial payment didn't go through and was returned. So instead of $115, I paid $300. Now I only have a $500 balance mind you. My payment shows under transactions as paid, my STATEMENT shows available credit as it should be, but I cannot use my card because it is showing a negative balance on my app which they say will take TWO WEEKS to clear. WHAT?!? Soooo, you get your money for my balance but I don't get to use my card?!? Not to mention, the app has the same message at the top of my screen stating my card should have been delivered by whatever date....I have already activated, used and made a payment on such card....REMOVE the annoying message at the top!

Also, I wanted to pick my own pin code....Got the one in the mail, called the number and they are sorry for the inconvenience. They are working on an issue with the ability to change the pin code via the phone (trying in the app, tells you to call the phone #). This has been this way since I received the card weeks ago! Your card is NOT user friendly at all. In fact, there should be more consumer complaints that initiate a claim suit, so maybe I should consult an attorney about their practices?!?

This is the worse credit card you can acquire. DO NOT APPLY FOR A ACCOUNT WITH ONE MAIN FINANCIAL. I paid my card off and closed my account. I was told that I still had a balance remaining of 30 cents. They added three late payments to my credit report and added late fees as if the account was still open… I finally got on the phone with. Supervisor named John and he stated that my account was closed in September but I had a 30 cents balance and that was the reason for the late charges. THEY ARE RIDICULOUS… TERRIBLE!!!… DO NOT DO IT!!!

I have had this card for over a year without issues. Recently, every time I try to use it the card declines for 'suspicious activity'... No fraud alerts are on my account. I call customer service and that was the most disgusting customer experience I have ever gone through. Absolutely NO SOLUTIONS were offered to me and NO ANSWERS!... My credit limit is not exceeded, my payments are made early, no one deserves this. I genuinely HATE this card.
