These cards are currently available for select customers, but OneMain has plans to expand access soon. The annual fee on a BrightWay card ranges from $0 to $65.

  • Rewards for on-time payments
  • App account management
Cons
  • Must receive offer to apply
  • Low credit limit

What is BrightWay?

BrightWay and BrightWay+ are Mastercard credit cards offered by OneMain Financial. The BrightWay card is intended for those who are building credit. The BrightWay+ card has a higher credit limit and is for customers with more established credit.

Both cards feature 1% cashback rewards and “Milestone Benefits” — a choice between an APR reduction or a credit limit increase — when you make six consecutive on-time payments of at least the minimum due amount.

Currently, OneMain Financial only offers the cards to select customers, including certain borrowers of the company’s personal loans. OneMain plans to expand availability soon.

How does BrightWay work?

If you received an offer by mail to apply for BrightWay, you can enter the 11-character code online. If you don’t have the code, you can provide your last name, ZIP code and the last four digits of your Social Security number to look it up.

Next, you fill out your application. Once you finish the application, you’ll find out if you’re approved for a card within seconds. Depending on your credit history, income and debt, you may be eligible for the BrightWay card or the BrightWay+ card.

If you’re approved, your BrightWay card will arrive by mail in five to seven business days. If it doesn't arrive within a week, you should contact OneMain Financial by phone. When you receive the card, you can activate it using the BrightWay app. This app also allows you to track spending, payments and rewards.

With a BrightWay card, you're automatically enrolled in the rewards program. You get unlimited 1% cash back on qualifying purchases, which is credited to your account at the end of each billing cycle.

The BrightWay card also has a “Milestone Benefits” program. After you make six consecutive on-time payments, you achieve a “Milestone Event.” OneMain Financial then allows you to choose either an APR reduction or a credit limit increase.

If you have the BrightWay card, achieving four Milestone Events means you can graduate to a BrightWay+ card.

BrightWay rates

The BrightWay credit card has an APR of 26.99% on purchases, cash advances and balance transfers. Once you reach a Milestone Event, OneMain Financial may allow you to reduce your APR, but it won't go below 19.99%, according to the terms of the rewards program. To avoid paying interest, you need to pay your card balance in full by the due date each month.

BrightWay credit cards have an annual fee that ranges from $0 to $65. Here are other fees to be aware of:

  • Cash advance: 3% of the cash advance or $10 — whichever amount is greater
  • Balance transfer: 3% of the transfer amount or $10 — whichever is greater
  • Foreign transaction: 1% of each transaction (in U.S. dollars)
  • Late payment: Up to $40
  • Replacement card: Up to $25

I have had this card three weeks and it already is the worst card I have ever owned. I made a payment that was double the required amount because for a reason I have no answer for, my first initial payment didn't go through and was returned. So instead of $115, I paid $300. Now I only have a $500 balance mind you. My payment shows under transactions as paid, my STATEMENT shows available credit as it should be, but I cannot use my card because it is showing a negative balance on my app which they say will take TWO WEEKS to clear. WHAT?!? Soooo, you get your money for my balance but I don't get to use my card?!? Not to mention, the app has the same message at the top of my screen stating my card should have been delivered by whatever date....I have already activated, used and made a payment on such card....REMOVE the annoying message at the top!

Also, I wanted to pick my own pin code....Got the one in the mail, called the number and they are sorry for the inconvenience. They are working on an issue with the ability to change the pin code via the phone (trying in the app, tells you to call the phone #). This has been this way since I received the card weeks ago! Your card is NOT user friendly at all. In fact, there should be more consumer complaints that initiate a claim suit, so maybe I should consult an attorney about their practices?!?

This is the worse credit card you can acquire. DO NOT APPLY FOR A ACCOUNT WITH ONE MAIN FINANCIAL. I paid my card off and closed my account. I was told that I still had a balance remaining of 30 cents. They added three late payments to my credit report and added late fees as if the account was still open… I finally got on the phone with. Supervisor named John and he stated that my account was closed in September but I had a 30 cents balance and that was the reason for the late charges. THEY ARE RIDICULOUS… TERRIBLE!!!… DO NOT DO IT!!!

I have had this card for over a year without issues. Recently, every time I try to use it the card declines for 'suspicious activity'... No fraud alerts are on my account. I call customer service and that was the most disgusting customer experience I have ever gone through. Absolutely NO SOLUTIONS were offered to me and NO ANSWERS!... My credit limit is not exceeded, my payments are made early, no one deserves this. I genuinely HATE this card.

I’ve personally held this card now for 19 months, starting with a modest $500 credit line. Over that time, I’ve received two $100 credit line increases and most recently a $50 increase—which frankly caught me off guard. By comparison, my primary card with Prosper opened at $700, then increased by $900 after six months, followed by another $900 just 90 days later, bringing that line to $2,500. What’s puzzling is the disparity. I’ve never missed a payment, consistently pay well above the minimum, and maintain a credit score in the lower 700's. It’s not perfect, but it’s solid, showing responsibility to repay my debts—and certainly not indicative of such a conservative adjustment. This isn’t a bad card by any stretch, but a sub-$1,000 limit is operationally impractical for how I actually use credit.

I routinely put cards to work for domestic and international flights, extended hotel stays, and vehicle rentals—transactions that easily exceed $1,000 each as I travel frequently for work. Because of the current limit, this card has been relegated to minor, incidental spending like food and beverage rather than being used as a true primary or travel instrument. Hopefully a more meaningful increase—at least $250—comes soon, because anything less doesn’t align with real-world usage.

I’ve been waiting since November 3, 2025 for a card to arrive. It has been 13 days since it was sent out a second time and still no card as of November 29th. Trying to get a hold of a representative is frustrating and difficult. You shouldn’t have to go through so many prompts. I was really looking forward to this card because it had potential and the rewards.

I have about 4 credit cards and this is the worse! Their rewards suck! I have had them for a year now and the first 6 months they gave me a $50 increase. The lowest increase I have ever seen. The next 6 months I got a .5% APR decrease! There is no incentive to have this card.

By far the worst credit card I ever had. I notified them about my travels. When I finally got to the place they flagged my transaction and said it was irreversible. My kids and I had to sleep in the car because I was counting on this card. Please do yourself a favor and do not get this card. Good thing I had money for gas because I couldn't even use it for gas. This card is useless. The customer service one of the worst I ever seen.

Zero. This is a fraudulent credit card company. They took my annual fee and the card never worked. I canceled the card. They falsely promised to refund my fee and no refund ever materialized. Avoid this company at all costs, they are crooks.
