AVG has disabled virus definition updates at USER specified times. It is LOCKED at 5 pm to 7 pm everyday. I use the free version. I am on a metered internet connection (Exede by Viasat) but have un-metered connection between midnight to 5 am. For this reason, I had scheduled all updates in my un-metered time window. I have only satellite internet as I'm in a rural location, so don't tell me to get another provider.

Does anyone know what I could possibly be doing wrong in the setting? I believe this is an example of how AVG is squeezing users to buy their paid version. Their "community forum" has been locked and their "new community forum" sends you to Microsoft's Store. I'll be looking for some OTHER anti-virus to use. I hope to advise potential users to avoid AVG because of their business practice.

I used AVG's one time tune-up fix- 24 hours and now I can't get rid of AVG HARASSING ME to buy this thing. It seemed to help my computer but little by little they are telling me that the changes they made (positive) will be undone. I wanted to uninstall under programs and features, but it says all the good changes will be gone. I've read horror stories from other users who have said that their computers cannot be used, so I am afraid to uninstall. Also others users said that Systems Restore did not work at all. I have not tried this yet. AVG keeps interrupting my work on my computer and it's really difficult to RED X it away.

I bought the AVG PC Tuneup and also used the free AVG internet security package. I then bought the professional version of the anti-virus security package. I was having trouble upgrading to the Pro version and contacted AVG support. They said they will do the install for me for $14.95 by taking control of my computer. I protested saying that the update problem was theirs and not mine. They said that because I am such a highly-valued customer they would do it for free. To make a long story short they couldn't do the upgrade. My computer became inoperable, and finally they told me to contact my Internet Access Provider. Based on my reading of user complaints I know that I will not be able to get a refund so I am cutting my losses. BUT NO MORE AVG for me!

I got something nasty in my computer while protected by AVG 2014. I contacted the company for help. They told me that I would need to pay them more money to fix the problem. I said no and complained until they said they would connect with my computer and fix it. They sent me a link to connect with a technician. I tried two times to use the link and the session timed out, both times waiting for a technician. I sent them a reply email that I did not have time to deal with this problem any longer and I would not be continuing to use AVG. They never replied. I had to wipe my hard drive with Dban to get the nasty off.

So I am sitting here going through my bills because I am one of the many people affected by the government shutdown when I open an email from AVG saying they have auto renewed my license. Now mind you, it's not due to be renewed to the end of the month. However, they go into my bank account and take out $33.99 without any notice, warning or anything. I have checks written out using that money that will probably now bounce and their response is "Someone will contact you in 24 to 72 hours to discuss our refund policy."

However, it only took them a minute to take the money out of my account. In addition, I was not going to renew anyway because their product slows down my computer. It actually seems like I have more viruses since I have been using them. But trust and believe if my checking account is screwed up and then choose to do nothing, I will see them in court . I will NEVER use them again if this is the way they conduct business!

AVG is a thoroughly irritating and aggressive company. Being Australian probably tells us why. It uses pop-ups that appear at every click to induce you to buy more of its stuff. And you can't get rid of them. I will certainly not be renewing any subscriptions.

AVG which is slipped into REAL PLAYER update, hijacks all browsers on your PC immediately. I saw it coming in and couldn't stop it. The next time you launch, you have to go through AVG, the options to restore home page are gone. Then you get ads, multiple worthless tool bars, etc. Next you have to unplug from the internet, go to remove programs which unlike a total virus does work. However, your keyboard has been disabled. When you reboot once, AVG does a sorry to see you go, keyboard still is inop. Reboot again and all is good. Run Malware just to make sure. Free is what it is. Do NOT use this program, it loads non-Stop and tries to load PC FIX on top.

This is the most borderline Trojan, barely skirting a full out Trojan I have EVER seen in 13 years.

AVG piggybacks certain software installations as a sponsor and silently installs on to users' computer without notice. If there is notice, it is hidden and sneaky. For example, if you install PowerISO, AVG will silently install "AVG Secure Search" and hijack your browser by: setting the homepage to redirect (bad), to the AVG Secure Search portal. Why is this bad?

    1) It deletes any of your saved homepage and replaces them with AVG Secure Search.
    2) User has no choice or control.

    3) It is difficult to remove by the average user.

You may notice that these symptoms fall under the Virus or Malware category. Therefore it should be classified for what it is; Malware.

Really love AVG Free AntiVirus 2013. However, when I selected "Fix Performance" and "Analyze" many errors were reported in 4 or 5 categories. I did not use the app to clean up the reported errors. From that day (7/4/13) on boot of computer I recvd 2 missing **.DLL reports each and every time I booted up computer. Searching Google for these DLLs offered various means to recover supposed missing DLLs or links to same. Finally, after 2 weeks of frustration, restored C: drive to 6/30/13 restore point and got rid of the Missing DLL messages. I sure hope that AVG did not wittingly or otherwise create this "??incentive??" to purchase Computer Tune-UP software.

I downloaded AVG for free this morning solely due to the fact that I was tired of hearing Avast screaming in my ear while I'm trying to play games or watch movies. Big mistake. The installation went smoothly, as well as the beginning of the scan. But once it got to 88% on the scan, my browsers stopped responding and Skype came up as pixelated and oddly colored and I couldn't sign in. So, thinking I may have downloaded a bad version or the wrong version for my OS -64 bit- I uninstalled as soon as the scan was done - due to it not allowing me to do anything but sit and watch as my computer basically ate itself by freezing and glitching away - and re-installed using a different version hoping that would solve the problem.

But as soon as it was out of my system, everything went back to normal. My browsers came back up, Skype cleared and everything was fine. Until the re-installation came up - without prompt! - and the whole process started all over again. 0/10, wouldn't use even if it was the only thing compatible with my system. Looks like I'm going back to Avast!

On 12/28, I tried to install AVG '13. As it was about to install, I got messages saying error, loading error, and failed to load. I got tech support and was set up for remote access. He worked on it for 1 1/2 to 2 hours and still wouldn't load. After that, I got the runaround from the tech when trying to get tier 3. Finally, I found out tier 3 was out for new year and to contact them on 1/2. When contacted on 1/2, I was told they would contact me later. I contacted them later that day and was told it would be another 2-3 days before they could take care of me. Not acceptable. I demanded a refund for the disc and was told I would receive it in 3-5 business days.

Fast forward to 2/5 and still no refund. Getting the runaround has stopped, because I'm going to small claims court and filing a $3,000 judgement against them. My suggestion is find something else or talk to someone else to see about a free program or a more reputable software company.

I downloaded the free version last year (2012) and in November I a got message to buy or quit so I paid $50, got an email with license key, entered it and everything was fine. Now (January 2013), I got a message, “The license is bad please re-enter,” so I went back to my email with license key cut and pasted it in and kept getting the message. I went online to chat with a tech support person who I could not understand. I tried several phone numbers and kept getting foreigners who cannot speak or understand plain English. I literally tried 10 phone numbers and several links for sending messages. All I want is to get my money back now. This product either has a bug or has been compromised by some sort of virus, so it is unacceptable in either case since the security of the system is obviously compromised at this point.

Buyer beware. This software, which used to have a great reputation, has seemingly changed hands and is no longer reliable or supportable. I have gone in and un-installed the product, but it persisted in the registry so I cleaned it up using regedit. Warning! This company is a rip off! Now I see (by reading other posts here) that they will probably try to "renew" me without my permission when the anniversary comes. I will now have to pay my bank to reject their attempt to charge my account further.

I try to uninstall and it warns me that if I do, all the improvements will disappear. So as of now, I haven't uninstalled it. I've been ill recently and thought that I had until the end of the month to renew my AVG service manually as I do every year. It appears that when I paid last year, AVG set me up for automatic payment renewal without my consent (or rather I consented without realizing when I agreed to their TOS). This would have been okay if AVG had actually taken the payment out on, or three days prior to, the renewal date. Instead, they took it out today, a full two weeks in advance. I'm on a strict budget and was already dealing with financial issues as the result of the July 4th holiday falling mid-week this year. This automatic renewal has now thrown everything off.

I called AVG and was transferred to a representative in India, who I could barely understand and who at times couldn't understand me. In the end, nothing could be done except for me to simply accept what happened. I asked the representative Eric (I doubt that's his real name as I've worked in a call center and know that Indian representatives are told to use "Americanized" names to make themselves more relatable) how I could leave feedback. He told me to email support@avg.com. I did so and received an email that the email address is no longer active. I searched online and I couldn't find a single method for US customers to file a complaint, leave feedback or contact a customer service representative in this country. The numbers listed for the United States all transfer to India.

I called AVG again and got representative Ryan, who told me at first to email AVG. I explained that the email doesn't work and then he advised me that AVG has to email me first and then I respond to that email with a case number. I've wasted two hours today dealing with it. It's ridiculous. At least I could understand the second representative better than the first. If AVG wants my business this time next year, they're really going to have to improve their business and customer service. I like the product, but not so much that I plan on wasting time like this in the future when I need to call them.

Then huge pink windows would appear saying the AVG was about to expire with big red countdown letters, very tacky, and to renew now. But there was no way to close the windows without clicking "Remind me later", which would cause the reminder window to come up again a few minutes later. It basically took over my computer. The "x" in the upper right corner was grayed out, so I couldn't close it. This continually interrupted my work. Finally, I was fed up and purchased a different antivirus program.
