I got ripped off by this company also. Charged me $106 for a renewal fee that I knew nothing about. Charged me on 1st of the month on credit card. Didn't receive C.C. bill till 10th of next month. Representative said sorry 30 days past. $106 for a $30 product. Also claimed to have sent email. Apparently, I didn't or I would of told them to shove a 300% price hike.

I went to AVG in 2019 on the recommendation of a friend who is IT professionally. I immediately paid for a couple of services. The first two years were great, except at some point during every interaction, the tech tried to upsell me. I was so happy to have an IT service for my home computers, that I often took the bait. To date, I've spent more than $500 with AVG. Sometime in 2021, the quality of service fell off considerably. Now, they never fix anything. They tell me either that my subscription is expired or that I need to upgrade.
Recently, their trick has been to simply hang up. Three nights ago, the tech couldn't find my account ID number or my name. She said that in order to help, I had to renew. (My five different subscriptions are good through March 2025.) After 20 minutes, she transferred me to billing so that department could try to find my account. The woman in billing said, "I don't know why she sent you here. We can't help you. We're billing." After about 10 minutes, she said she was going to transfer me back to technical, but she hung up instead. That's happened several times over the past year. I won't call them again. I will report AVG to the Consumer Affairs people in the Arkansas Attorney General's office.

Their software was relentless at putting up popups on my screen trying to sell me more products. I had had enough. So I waited for the subscription to run out to cancel. BIG MISTAKE. They hit my bank through PayPal a day early and I am in my 5th week of fighting to get my refund. I had blocked the payment because I had read they are ruthless about refunds. I didn't block Digital River and that was how the charge appeared so they went around the block I put on them. They give a song and dance about having 30 days to cancel. **

I received a notice from Paypal that my subscription to AVG was being automatically renewed and a charge placed to my account two weeks prior to expiration date I tried unsuccessfully for two hours to cancel my renewal via AVG. I received no prior notice of renewal prior to my Paypal account being charged. At that point, however, I tried to cancel online with AVG, I was instructed to have a live "chat". I even tried to find unsuccessfully any phone numbers to call. I even sent a message to another website of AVG to try to cancel but got no response. Finally, after two hours of trying cancel my renewal and obtain a refund, I was forced to "chat."
By this time my patience had been exhausted and I made it very clear to Rachele Ann that I did not want to chat but wanted to cancel my subscription. I was frankly very clear that I did not want to tell her why I wanted to cancel but she just would not listen. I used no foul language. She finally just hung up without responding to my request to cancel my renewal. I had not other alternative but to complain to Paypal about the treatment I received and how it is impossible to cancel a renewal online. Paypal did notify me later that evening I was getting a refund. This is yet another example of a company forcing you to sign up for automatic renewal and then making it almost impossible to cancel the renewal. There are no phone numbers to call and emails that I got were that to which you cannot reply. I will never use AVG again. Buyers beware!!

Hello, I had bought online AVG Internet Security for my pc from their partner Avast-tn.com and I want to talk about their antispyware "AVG Sensitive data Shield" feature that is to supposed to scan my documents on my pc and secure them against unauthorized access. Till now, nothing really new, most of antivirus do that. What impressed me, is that I can prevent user accounts, my wife or my child for example who have signed on my pc, to have access to my Windows session and open my documents protected with Sensitive data Shield feature. I used AVG many MANY years ago, but cancelled them and switched to Bitdefender. Going through my business card statements, though, I came across a renewal charge from November 2020. I reached out to customer service to find that they had no record of it, or any of the email addresses I use. They ran the card number to find that they have an AOL email I used almost 20 years ago. No idea how many times it's "auto renewed" with notifications to an old email address, but they've likely been charging me for years and I never noticed. I asked for a refund for the most recent one and they stated that it would only be refunded within 30 days. Doesn't matter that I have zero computers using AVG, apparently. They're just going to keep the money. Disputing with my CC company directly!

I use AVG free ver 18.8 because that is the highest version that will work on XP 64 Pro. When all the shields are actually on, the program works as intended and is adequate for my needs. Regardless of the operating system or even what version of AVG is used, me and 1,000’s of others seem to experience the same (years long) persistent flaw in the software. Every time the virus definitions update there is a significant chance that at least one of the shields will turn itself off. The only indication is the orange exclamation circle over the notification tray icon. In my case it’s the file or behavior shield and this is fixed by simply turning it back on provided I am paying attention.
AVG could do one of two things to address this situation. FIX THE PROBLEM!!! Of course there is a better chance that Trump will exit gracefully, than AVG fixing the problem. The other thing AVG could do is have a customizable pop up notification with audio that shows up every few minutes until all shields are running. Again, not very likely because they just don’t seem to give a crap.

I got with another tech and he was not helpful at all, he said, "It’s $119 if you want me to help you fix this problem for this one time or $199 for you to be calling back if you have more issues." What do you mean? I shouldn’t keep having issues with your product! I said, "What? I put my computer on safe mode and other tech was helping me."
He “laugh” as if I were dumb and I got upset and said that I wasn’t told this before I put my computer on safe mode and that I paid for this antivirus and why should I pay for them to repair their problem and I said I rather cancel subscription since it didn’t work and he said it’s fine and I told him he was rude for laughing and just hang up. For the most part I have been satisfied with AVG, but recently I noticed that I seem to have duplicate subscriptions associated with my account. First of all, it concerns me that it would be possible to subscribe twice to the same subscription without AVG letting me know at the time that I already had that subscription. I have always thought that when I was renewing it was because my old subscription was actually running out (indicated by numerous emails and notifications from AVG) and that I was just renewing, not adding it a second time.
Secondly, I have been trying to find a way to contact them to ask if there was some other explanation for this but am finding it impossible to get in contact with support. I tried starting a chat but after writing my message it just went to a page that said "chat is not available at this time". And there was no option to send as an email. This makes me feel like I have no other option but to leave a honest review and hope they will get back to me. I am frustrated with the lack of clarity and communication. But hopeful that it might improve in future and that my issue might actually be addressed. We shall see.

I have to eat some crow. My last review was quite critical of AVG; not for the quality of their software but for the quality of their customer service. Having heard nothing for several days after contacting them with my original grievance I had written the issue off with no hope of recovery. I thought the best thing to do would be to spread the news and limit the casualties. Had I waited just a few more days I would have discovered that AVG had, indeed, refunded all my costs by crediting my card. I was too quick! I was wrong and I apologize. This level of care, attention and responsibility demonstrated by AVG is rare in my experience. This speaks lowly of the state of business ethics today. I'll take this as a sign that we're improving. I'll be back with AVG as soon as the dust settles and my embarrassment subsides. I would not hesitate to recommend this firm to anyone.

It might well be wonderful software. I'll never know. I was using the Antivirus and Tune Up modules on a free 60 day trial which began at the end of 12/19. In January my cc got hit for the whole pop. I called and asked for a refund (which was given, thanks) and for the subscription to be canceled (which, apparently, was not). On February 1, 2020 the cc got hit again for the exact same amount ($75.00). This time, when I called (about 6 times) I got a song and dance about their inability to grant the refund UNTIL I first pay them $250.00 to clean my computer and then AND ONLY THEN will they be able to cancel my subscription and grant my refund. Pretty cute, huh? Smell like a RANSOM to you? Me too. I'm going to do everything I can but I don't hold out much hope and losing that $75.00 hurts like a tooth. I thought, for the benefit of an online community that has always been good to me, I would pass this along. Tread carefully.

I searched for solutions first and found open issues with several users going back to 2017. I followed the same procedure. Repair did not work. Complete reinstall did not work. Coincidentally AVG quit working for me one day (13 January 2020) before Microsoft discontinued support for Windows 7. AVG had done an update on 13 January 2020 and that is when my AVG Antivirus started shutting off by itself. I verified that AVG was no longer running by viewing task manager. CA, fix your site. It drops filled forms when users REFRESH THE PAGE. THAT IS BAD. Now, onto AVG... I used to use SafeSearch. I also use to have much more well-written and well thought-out review than the angry tirade you're about to be exposed to, but I'll sum up my issues as quickly and politely as is appropriate for the situation. I used AVG SafeSearch on Chrome for over 6 years. I rather liked it. Then I restarted Chrome this morning to discover that AVG was demanding control of my homepage, search engine, and startup page, all of which I've spent those 6 years tweaking and adjusting as I see fit.
In any other situation, such alteration would quickly be ignored, fixed, and not be an issue. Instead, I find that your application REFUSES TO FUNCTION unless these changes are made (as if it functions at all, seeing as I've not had a single AVG popup on Chrome or my desktop that wasn't already caught by ANOTHER APPLICATION). So, Ohioans who think themselves an internet security company, I shall be taking my business elsewhere to companies that don't break security protocols or anger their users with shady practices. Someone like Kaspersky or Symantec, probably. Kthxbye.

I got a new computer, my first windows desktop in quite some time, and I opted to sign up for a credible antivirus software that would hopefully mitigate one of the windows meltdowns I had experienced in the past. I ran the free AVG antivirus scan and it told me to upgrade to clear some suspicious files on my BRAND NEW computer. That should have been a red flag right there. Anyway, I proceeded with my subscription.
Fast forward a few months and I decided to run another computer scan. I run the scan and the computer goes through three different scans. The last of the three scans detect some suspicious files and sends me to a screen telling me to upgrade my service to remove the files. I quickly notice that the upgrade they are telling me to sign up for is the upgrade I was already subscribed to. I then realized I had run the scan while not being signed into my profile so they did not detect that I had already paid for this functionality in their software. So I sign into my profile and re-run the scan expecting these suspicious files to be removed at the third step.
When I re-run the file I now find there are FOUR SCANS, NOT THE THREE I HAD RUN THE FIRST TIME WHEN NOT SIGNED IN! This time the third scan titled "Advanced Issues", which had originally detected numerous threats to my computer and prompted me to sign up for a subscription, ran through with NO ISSUES DETECTED!! Better yet, the added fourth scan titled "Performance Issues" was run and it now detected "threatening files" which were not covered by the subscription I had already paid for and told me I had to UPGRADE MY SERVICE.
This is complete larceny. They determine what is threatening or not based purely on your subscription status, and then report it in a scan with functionality only accessible to you if you upgrade to their next tier of service. It makes me sick that I paid this company the first time. SAVE YOUR MONEY and go to a different anti-virus software. This is not the AVG I remember from the early 2000's.

Hi, Curtis:
Thanks for your feedback! The difference between the number of scans that were run likely had to do with signing into your subscribed feature set. I concluded it was an issue with AVG so I COMPLETELY cleaned/removed my computer of it. What I never would have expected from this company is the obvious retaliation, even if it and its parent company, Avast, are both from Czechoslovakia.
I have several email addresses including two that I rarely use, of which one has NEVER been used in the 5 years I've had it and it's not something typical which a robo-spammer would pick up on. Now all of a sudden, every single one of them is receiving spam which come in series several times a day, with the same content. Another coincidence? Really? I don't think so. Ever since they installed everything via remote access my contracts which can be up to 90 plus pages, can no longer print from laptop to printer. I spent 57 minutes on the phone with Rod this evening, then waited for a call for 17-min for a more technical supervisor to help me. The guy that I was finally transferred to kept speaking over me telling me what had been done. Obviously, I was more knowledgeable on the sequence of event, as he misrepresented them. I just wanted the issue resolved in a timely manner, as agreed when I purchased the service. He seemed very confused in his English and appeared agitated and irritated with the complexity of the problem. I've used AVG for many years, but will seek a more reputable resource that honors their commitment to quality service.

I did a “free” trial for AVG Tuneup. It did nothing to speed up my computer so I turned off auto-renew. I got billed anyways. I had insufficient funds in my account so I got hit with $29 NSF fee from my credit union. I assumed my bank covered the difference so I requested a refund from AVG. I got an email confirming my refund would be processed. I called AVG about the NSF fee and was told my refund needed to processed first before providing additional help. I was also told I was still subscribed in spite of 2 attempts to terminate my account, one involving direct customer support. I later got an email from PayPal that AVG’s billing service would reattempt to bill me in a few days and to ensure I had funds in my account. I contacted AVG and was reassured I would not be billed again.
I was billed again, hit with another NSF fee and the PayPal took the AVG refund as reimbursement for billing I was assured would not happen. AVG support treated me like I was lying--claiming the money was actually being added to my account, not taken out. I eventually had to request to speak to management. I provided her with screenshots from my bank and copies of emails, a letter from PayPal explaining that on their end how Digital River billed me on behalf of AVG multiple times and AVG correspondence.
I was told someone would contact me within 5 business days. It's been over 5 weeks. I sent a follow-up email. No reply. If I had added the money to my account to prevent a second NSF fee they would have taken more of my money and never gave it back and not be bothered with responding to the fact that there are some problems with billing system they may or may not be aware of that would have totaled $108.00 for a service I’m not even subscribed to. My guess is when this sort of thing happens customer service that people just give up. This comes at a time when I’ve been hit with emergency medical expenses and I have wasted several hours a week from my already strapped schedule calling my bank, PayPal, and AVG trying to get this situation resolved.
After seeing other complaints here about people with cancellations, I have no reason to believe this won't happen again this time next year even though I have supposedly been removed from their system. While I am not entitled to a full refund, the fact that 2 attempts to cancel my subscription failed even with customer support intervention costing me money I desperately need right now.
I do not recommend any of AVG services-- I’m clearly not the only person who had trouble canceling my subscription. I've also learned they sell your search history, overall malware protection is mediocre at best and has caused significant problems for paid members computer function. Throw in random pop-ups that slow down your computer designed to scare you into buying more protection. Save yourself the struggle and google best free & paid antivirus software to find something better for your computer.

I’ve been an AVG user for years, at $99.00 per year. The more recent software has continuous, fear based pop ups, always leading towards buying another of their products. It really is extremely intrusive. Because of these pop ups I actually bought the same software that I already had on my computer. How is that even possible??
I only became aware months later, when I got an email reminding me of automatic deduction coming up the following month, for my original yearly subscription. After emailed them, giving all details, asking for a refund, they not once answered my questions, just told me how they cared, which they obviously didn’t. They just reminded me of their refund policy with typical corporate language. Suffice to say I will not be using AVG again.

Last night, I initiated the "Unsubscribe" process. After waiting over 2 hours to receive a notification that the process had been completed, I discovered that it could take up to 24 hours. There is NO justification for that time lag. Needless to say, it did NOT take that long. However, I just noticed that the expiration dates all occur AFTER the next scheduled renewal. If I am charged, I will file a complaint with the Texas Attorney General's office and the Federal Trade Commission.

We tried AVG free and liked it. As a result, we bought the Internet security from Staples, and installed it when the free trial expired. As with other reviewers, it kept reverting to the expired free version after a day or so. When we called Avg, the representative tried to upsell a repair and maintenance package. We were told that our computer had problems. We had not noticed any at all, and their free version worked fine. I expressed my dismay at being up sold but was told that it was their policy. When I asked the rep to disconnect from my computer, he did not and was argumentative. If a security company tries to separate you from your money, there is a problem. Refusing to disconnect is a serious problem. Tallying over a customer, just rude. I am going back to my former Internet security. Wish I had read the reviews.

I contacted AVG because my paid subscription for anti-virus protection had suddenly reverted to AVG-Free. After restoring the full version, the tech said I should purchase their premium plan to clean-up the system and enhance performance. I said I didn't need it. She kept pushing - I said that even the 3-month package was more than I was prepared to buy. She said "What if I give you a discount? How about $50?" I decided to try it out, I paid and she turned the call over to another tech. The tech did "something", said everything was good. The next day, my computer would not load past the welcome step. When I phoned again the tech fiddled around for an hour and started it remotely. The next time I rebooted the machine, the same thing happened.
This time I was told that this was my last day of support (2 weeks not the 3 months that the first person had indicated I was buying). When I explained that the problem had been caused by their tech (which they did not dispute) and wanted them to extend the support time, their response was that they had solved the original problem and so that was all they had to do.
I finally talked to a supervisor who very condescendingly said I could have ONE phone call in the next two week period without have to give them more money. The appropriate response would have been "Don't worry about the time, we'll work with you to make sure that the problem is solved." If the problem is in fact fixed, there would be no more calls and this response would cost them zero dollars; if the problem is not fixed they would be acting responsibly and correcting the error. (Imagine taking your car to a mechanic to have the brakes adjusted, having him accidentally damage the engine and then saying "I fixed the brakes so I don't have to do anything else.")
Since then I have noticed several AVG services running on my system that I do not recall seeing before. One is avgbIDSAgent, the other is AVG Service. If I understand correctly, neither one is necessary for virus protection or internet security, but both are large resource consumers. Shut down and start up on my machine are much slower than before AVG made changes to the system. In addition, the network printer which is still installed as the default printer no longer is automatically selected by the text editor I regularly use (I have located and fixed the problem). At this point it is unlikely that I will use my ONE call to clean-up the remaining problems since I have no idea what might happen the next time AVG connects to my machine. If necessary, I will find a reputable local tech and pay to have the work done.
In all, I spoke to 6 technical support people. The techs refused to listen to me explain the actual problem and kept interrupting and wanting to solve some problem that they know how to fix. They gave no credible explanation of what had caused the problem (original or AVG-caused). Instead, they kept telling me that: 1. My machine is old. 2. My software is old. 3. I click too many things. 4. My expectations are too high (this was after about the fourth or fifth "fiddle and reboot" and programs which I use all the time were grindingly slow). 5. There are too many programs starting up (start up had not been a problem before AVG worked on the system). 6. And whatever the problem is, it's not them.
I have been developing computer software for decades and do understand how a computer works and am perfectly capable of discussing problems with a technician. In fact, I received an email from one tech thanking me for the clarity of my description of the problem he was helping me solve - he listened. To sum up, the technical support was mediocre at best, the customer support extremely poor and the sales technique misleading.

Adding PC TuneUP for unlimited (small print that's 10 devices) was an additional $49 for one year, $149 for three years.
Problem AVG "AUTOMATICALLY" renewed by previous subscription for PC-TuneUp (1 device/1 year) for $44.99 ($48.70 with Tax) on Jan 28, 2019. The next day AVG "AUTOMATICALLY" renewed previous subscription of AVG Internet Security (3 devices/1 year) for $83.99 ($90.92 with Tax). Both products: Tools (order# **) Internet Sec. (order# **).
I requested a refund separately for both products the same day (Jan 28, 2019 and Jan 29, 2019). Separately because each product on the refund request you must enter the Product KEY #. Each request generated 4 emails. a. An acknowledgement of my request, b. A notification that my order had been cancelled. c. An email stating my refund had been started and should be returned to my account (PayPal) in seven days. d. The following day, a survey on how happy was I with customer service with my problem.
We are now two months later and after each seven day period another request for refund (4 total requests for each product/all the same results, 4 emails but no REFUND). And Still I'm less Refund. On 23 Feb 2019 I purchased this, "product" believing it was as good as some of the airport ads made it out to be. I was misled immensely. After reading all of the reviews and having had to slug it out with the "tech support" people in The Philippine Islands, requesting an immediate refund, I found I was being lied to by people who do not even know their own product, let alone have any customer service skills. I was asked for a return phone number so that the could do a "follow up" call in which I adamantly declined after having read the reviews here.
Upon installation of this "product" I took note of several things. Pop-ups began almost immediately and never ceased until, I had to take my laptop back into the location where I purchased the laptop to eradicate the "product". I was then told that, "Under no circumstances should you ever buy or use AVG for any reason whatsoever". They provide little to no technical knowledge of their own product, the customer service reps have poor phone manners and attempt to talk over you (they don't like it when you do it to them - too bad), and furthermore any presumed technical support amounts to them transferring you to a rep in India, and that person spoke unintelligible English.
To further complicate matters, upon installation of this" product", when I attempted to import a scanned document, AVG intercepted that document 9 times and prohibited me from doing so. Shortly thereafter, the laptop was compromised in that no further internet access was made available, despite several attempts at a hard re-start (all programs shut down, battery pulled and allowed to rest for upwards of 30 minutes on SEVEN tries!).
As per my computer repair person, "AVG has a series of issues that allow it to intercept and stop any normal functioning and will not acknowledge or allow any normally used file to be utilized. After being in a verbal argument with the presumed "customer service rep -" Crystal, in the P.I. on 1 March at 2:55 A.M. her time and 10:55 A.M. my time, requesting and then demanding an immediate refund, I was placed on hold for well over 20 minutes. This situation is still ongoing and will soon enter civil litigation for false advertising, as well as a complete scam of the presumed "product".
A word of warning and caution to those who are or have considered buying this item, DON'T buy it, don't use it even if it's free. A complaint has been filed and sent to the Washington State Attorney General's Office in Olympia Washington for further action. Again, do NOT purchase this product and don't use the free version. It's worse and the subsequent results will most likely provide you with more than enough reasons to reach for a headache pain pill or three.

I have used AVG antivirus / internet security for a decade and I always thought they were great. Until today. My AVG internet security suddenly alerts me that my subscription has expired, and I immediately tried to renew subscription from the installed software. Digital river, I was told, was the firm that was going to sell my AVG subscription. I was given the option for two add-on programs, which I ensured were not checked. It was the user interface, and I did not see any agreement to check on. I paid for internet security only at $29. Pronto I was charged $29 for internet security and another $29 for PC Tune up. Must be an error, I thought.
I now go online and the reviews for AVG are damning! One out of five stars? How could you kill this great business by allowing scammers get control of processes? Now I have the download links to both the internet security and the PC tune up in my email. I have not downloaded nor used the keys as I do not intend to lose money on this tune up thingy. I was still thinking of activating the internet security, but the reviews I have seen here have given me a change of heart. Look, I will still use internet security if you guarantee that there is no risk to my systems if I use this. For the PC tune up, no way! I want my money back. Did my beloved AVG sell the company to a set of grifters?

Not only did they charge my account for the renewal fee, but they also doubled that charge and charged it to my credit card. I filed a fraud/dispute with my credit card and went through all the back and forth with that. I was found in favor on that dispute and my account was credited back for the doubled charges. I then cancelled my account and have confirmation via email that the account was cancelled and no further charges would be made.
I requested a new credit card with a new number after that incident. Today, I checked my credit card account and saw that on 2/7/19 they charged me again, the doubled charge. So now I am going through the process again of fraud/disputing the charge with my credit card. Not only do I no longer have an account with them, but they also charged my new card with a new number that was never provided to them. I would NOT do business with this company and use their antivirus program. They have been nothing but a nightmare!

I had the free version of AVG, never had an issue until I decided to upgrade for $29 a year. Thought this was a good deal. Next thing you know they got hold of my computer and really trashed it. They removed all my pictures, my document file as well as Microsoft Office ($150 program I had no issues with). The "key" expired on this program and to get it back I would have to pay another $150. They deny erasing anything. I had no issues until I got the paid version of AVG. AVG SESSION should show the hell I went and am going through. I only saved pictures and files that are important to me, and they erased them all.

I have a limited version of their "Tune-Up" software, and an hour ago I was tuning up my laptop. A message popped-up (as happens every two minutes with EVERY AVG product) and offered a full and complete version for $4.99/month. I clicked it, it loaded, and loaded for 10 minutes, but nothing. So, having been tricked by them before I wondered what would happen if I tried clicking on the "Pay for a full year up front" option... guess what? The option I wanted wouldn't load, the option they were really offering was my only option. I called demanding what they had just offered me 10 minutes prior: "We're so sorry we no longer offer it month-to-month"... How long ago did you quit offering it the way you just now offered it? When you initiate a call to their "customer service" team, they are slow to respond and in some cases had no idea what the latest upgrade contained or how it would impact my system. In fact, when I called after their recent January 3, 2019 update and advised them I lost the anti-spam application they told me they no longer offered the anti-spam capability. Three days later the application reappeared. I have had enough and installed a new anti-virus system of one of my two PCs. Goodbye AVG!!!

I had reason to change my email login for a month when my computer got hacked and THAT is when the problems started! BECAUSE the email login is WHAT establishes your "membership" I lost all access to update all programs and ended up getting "infected" with a particularly nasty "virus". AVG refused to help me BECAUSE they could not verify "my computer" login. I tried (repeatedly) to explain what had happened - they even had the gall to state that I had stopped paying for "subscriptions" when they became due. There was NO subscription DUE until April '19. Updated on 01/13/2019: I previously reviewed AVG for a minor issue that turned into them telling me there were multiple issues with my computer and that it would cost me $109 to repair. Which in itself seems suspect since my computer is less than a year old and gets very little use. After the review, on this site, they responded with seemingly concern and asked me to contact them privately. I did. That was nearly 10 days ago and still no reply. It's quite obvious they don't care about their customers. Once my contract is up it is unlikely I will ever purchase an AVG product again.
Original Review: I contacted tech support the other day for what I assumed was a minor issue. My AVG ZEN portal was telling me I needed an update to my internet security, however when I try to update it gets stuck in a connection screen and never starts. Called AVG support to figure out what was going on. After being on the phone for about 20 minutes I was told that there were multiple issues with my computer and that it would cost $109 to fix.
This is ridiculous. I pay a yearly subscription to AVG and now I'd have to pay an additional $109 for technical support? What kind of scam is this? When I told them that financially I could not afford that, I was quickly told I could be given a discount. Once I explained that I couldn't afford the discount either, the tech support guy basically stopped caring about anything I had to say and was quick to get me off the phone. Needless to say I will not be renewing my subscription to AVG and will be looking for a new anti-virus software to use. Very disappointing. They also did not fix my original issue.

When they did the ‘tune up’ that came with the membership it roasted the normal operating systems. I had to shut the AVG down and one at a time restore the proper functions of the video card and processing. Then, after I got things straightened out and cancel the membership, 11 months later I get an email from them telling me they’re going to renew my membership for only $50. I've used both AVG and AVG free in the past. In 2018, they've changed their marketing drive or something. Now, all I get are non-stop begging for me to renew/switch to AVG paid (depending on what computer I'm on). I was annoyed and let the subscription lapse and cancel. The credit card they had was dead anyway (went to a different one). They must have tried to charge it anyway, despite the cancellation because in the several months since, I've been hounded by AVG's popups begging for me to renew (hey! Here's a gift! Renew now, and we'll give you a deal!).
Now their new thing: Hijacking my browser. I use Chrome. I LOVE Chrome's ability to stop ads, etc. AVG decided they could do better, and started asking me non-stop (since about a week ago) to make my browser default to AVG's browser. Uh... no thanks. So, I clicked on the decline button and it installed itself anyway. Now my Chrome browser is clogged with their garbage. I've had to uninstall & reinstall a clean copy. Goodbye AVG! It's been over a decade from me, but I'm switching to something else, I don't care if it costs more. I've used Bitdefender before and it never gave me trouble like this.

First of all, they charged me double for the very same products I paid for in the first place. Secondly, when I called their customer service to find out what happened, I was told that if you order the products online, it will automatically take out monies from your account unless you contact them. I don't remember ever seeing that when I purchased the product. The first time I called them (on the 23rd of Nov), I was told that it will take 5-7 business days before I will see my money back in my account. On the 3rd of December, my money still WASN'T back in my account, so I called them again.
They told me they would help me out on the phone to get it taken care of. I asked the CSR how long will it be before I see my money back and he said 72 hours. After McAfee (in its early days) and having had a virus infection during that time I tried several other Antivirus programs. Several years ago I settled on AVG and haven't had an infection since, but received several warnings about dangerous emails and sites I tried to view. The warnings are inflaming and threatening RED thus IMPOSSIBLE to ignore! And carries a selector stating GET ME OUT OF HERE. Good so far and no functional complaints. The problem starts when I need help with something going above my cranium, then invariably the operator/technician is in the Philippines (I always ask their location or can tell by the time difference... need to ask that also) and usually speaks pretty good English with an accent. After allowing remote access (always watch what they're doing!!!) they load a program that shows lots of RED warnings and then COMES THE SALES pitch.
They CAN remove all these problems but it will cost XXYY amount of dollars but... there are options etc. At such time I usually deny further access, and cancel the phone call. While the AVG program seems to have been keeping my PCs free from attacks, their continuous attempt to get more money out of my pocket is an enormous negative. Surely I understand that companies can only exist if revenue keeps coming in and if an annual subscription does not have sufficient clients the company may cease to exist, simple economics 101, but... if they cannot tell you upfront (or won't) what fixing problems would cost, then why make an annoying PC problem worse by making your person miserable as well? It seems to this 87 yr old a problem that finds its origin in less civility, less integrity and more greed, but then these are just my experiences and opinions expressed.

AVG responded to my complaint with the same cookie cutter reply they send to everybody else who complains about their products and services. They try very hard to make their scam seem legitimate. And sadly there are millions of vulnerable people needing help that are being exploited by AVG. If you sell me something and then you do something in the background to cause it not to work, and then you want to charge me to undo or fix what you did that caused it not to work to begin with is the definition of a fraudulent transaction ie... SCAM SCAM SCAM!!! Somebody needs to put a stop to this type of internet fraud. Talking adventure.
Original Review: I have been using AVG PC Tuneup for a number of years. It automatically renewed the other day which was fine, because I liked the product and wanted to continue using it. Today I got a message when I tried to open PC Tuneup that it had expired. I called AVG for assistance and Muhammad answered the phone and I allowed him to take control of my computer remotely to troubleshoot the issue. After he went through my computer OS looking at everything and asking me about certain programs that had nothing to do with the issue. He put me on hold for a little while then he informed me that he would need to uninstall AVG PC Tuneup and reinstall it but he was going to have to charge me a $100 tech support fee for doing it.
I told him to shut off his access to my computer immediately. I told him I wanted a complete refund and I would not be using the AVG products anymore. They programmed their software to lock up on purpose so they could charge me more money to fix it. I don't want anything to do with a company that runs scams on ignorant customers who don't know how scams like this work. They sell you something then tell you it will cost you more money to fix it when their install software causes the issue in the first place.
They carefully planned this in advance of the issue they caused and I want everybody to be aware of the upsell scam AVG is running to fix issues they cause themselves in order to milk more money from unsuspecting customers. They try to sell you on it being legitimate service. I have been scammed by other companies who offer internet and computer services who offer one product but continue to find unrelated issues to upcharge you to fix because the initial product they sold you did not cover the additional services they want to charge you for. Total scam - beware of anybody asking for more money after they sell you one product.

I'm sorry but this was not helpful at all. I purchased several of your products over the course of 4 months. I have (all year memberships) of mobile security (bought at least two memberships), deep cleaning, VPN, and internet security. I have them spread out on this account and ** and another account. I have multiple accounts as this "thing" changes my password and locks me out.
I haven't been able to utilize the internet security because the computer would not allow the download. I've called your technicians multiple times. They did what they called an "attempt" to download remotely but were too impatient to wait for the download to finish, left, and the download never completed. Needless to say, the malware remained prevalent. I called multiple times again. I mentioned how Norton attempted a rescue but failed and your technician said: "well, if Norton couldn't do it, I'm not sure what you're expecting from us." How embarrassing for AVG. Had he let me finish my sentence without cutting me off he would've been better informed and knew that poor customer service on Norton's part is what deterred successful intervention and resolution to this issue. The same service I've received from AVG thus far.
You can highly recommend but have been nothing but a disappointment and an inconvenience. Your cleaning app is the only product that has served any real purpose or use. Your VPN never connects, your internet security software refuses to download and your technicians are too impatient to provide quality technical assistance. Your mobile security only arms the malware with additional resources as it uses your permissions to inflict more damage my software, property, and devices.
I'm hereby requesting a full refund for all of your products, except the cleaning app. They have been deemed defective, inefficient, and ultimately have contributed to the furthering of damage to my devices, software, and equipment. Since I've purchased your product(s) I have lost three laptops and I'm now on my fourth cell phone which I will be doing a warranty exchange this Friday. I've switched carriers two times and ISPs once (Comcast to Verizon) and you (AVG) who bolstered and store protection, security, and membership have been reticent, absent, and utterly unhelpful. I had purchased an AVG tuneup in Dec. 2016 for two years. After 18 months of using the program which I thought was not all that great IG constant reminders every day to upgrade or buy additional protection. OK. I believe it was June of 2018. I used the program for a tune-up and running a scan. I noticed that the scan stayed on 12 percent. So I thought it needed more time, however after 2 hours the scan was still at 12 percent. I proceeded to stop the scan and mouse or keyboard commands were unresponsive. My next step was to shut down the computer which was also unresponsive so I unplugged the power source and waited several minutes and initiated the power. To my surprised after booting up I still was where I left off. I could not even get to a safe mode. I proceeded to contact AVG which became extremely difficult. I eventually called a phone number .
I had to use my smartphone to search. The first number I called I spoke to which seemed like a shady rep. I conveyed my complaint and was told that it would take 24 hrs to be contacted. I moved on to another AVG phone number and this rep was completely useless. Did not listen to me and suggested I contact a local computer repair service. The rep kept repeating that I should allow them to give them access to my computer remotely. I tried to explain that I could not use any commands on my computer. That fell on deaf stupid ears after much frustration and feeling that my computer had been hijacked I hung up and fortunately when I tried to access my computer again I was able to get to a safe mode option. Therefore I was successful in ending the scan . My next step was to uninstall their program.
After that was completed I called a third AVG phone number and got a third incompetent rep. I proceed to cancel my subscription and wanted a refund for the last 6 months of my subscription. The rep replied that was not possible. OK. So I wanted a confirmation e-mail for cancellation and then I realized I had changed my e-mail address since I purchased the subscription in 2016. So I proceeded to request a e-mail address change and was told that they needed to access my computer. Can you believe that access my computer for a e-mail address change?
So I had to call a fourth phone number and finally was able to change my e-mail address because I could not trust this company or whatever they are not to renew my subscription. Of course they would not refund the remaining 6 months left in my subscription. I would advise all to stay clear of AVG avoid this company like an incurable disease. Seems like all they want to do is get access to your computer. This company should not be permitted to do business a complete fraud. My experience was a terrible nightmare.

At the end of last month I received a subscription renewal notice informing me that £76.49 would be taken from my card in two weeks time. I have been a paying customer of AVG for at least 8 years with a subscription every two years for five computers of just AVG Antivirus. I don't need any greater functionality than virus scanning as I don't want any interference via additional firewalls or monitoring to interfere with the smooth operation of my PCs. I later received notification that my account had been debited £121.99 by Digital River on behalf of AVG, an overcharge of £45.50 or 60% of the payment I was expecting to have taken. Having called AVG customer service, which sounded like an Indian contact centre, I was informed that they COULD NOT ISSUE REFUNDS, but instead could extend my expiry date to 4 years from 2 years if I took the AVG Internet Security upgrade - a product I don't want, rather than my Antivirus only product.
I'm sure that taking more money than is due and not allowing refunds constitutes theft and is illegal under most international financial regulations. If you have a subscription with AVG I suggest you check with them how much they intend to take from you. Remember I have an e-mail stating how much they were taking but they changed the amount and overcharged anyway with no refund available. I could find nowhere to e-mail to complain and have this on record except for verbal discussions with customer service so there is no paper trail for this. It's plain robbery. Forward charging me for 2 years now (2 years in advance), when I only want my regular 2 years is no compensation. AVG may have a poor product or be out of business in 2 years so why should I be forced to pay for an extra 2 years now. I will be contacting my card issuer's fraud team as I can send them the renewal notice.

Found a Trojan horse linked directly to the company. No, I did not use another antivirus program to find it. I hunted it down manually by going through files that I didn't recognize. I do not recall the exact name of the file, but found that it took up a disproportionate amount of disk space, but I do know that it started with the name "AVG" and was confirmed by many to be a Trojan horse virus. I can only say I am extremely thankful that this product was given to me by my mother. I don't want to even think about what the credit charges look like for her. Not to mention the inability to turn it off, all the malware that came in the folders, and the PUP files that were able to get in despite AVG being in use at the time.
The only good thing about this product I could find was the shredder. I'm not usually one to believe in conspiracies, but I think it's safe to say that some antivirus companies create some computer viruses in order to scare people into paying the companies for their protection. I have but one thing to say about companies like that: Disgusting. I recommend against EVER installing this fraudulent program. From what other reviews I've read, looks like I got lucky that it wasn't worse.

Was unexpectedly debited for £49.99 by a firm "Digital River Ireland", email associated does not work, so opened a dispute with Paypal. Traced "Digital River" to AVG. Two weeks later, no reply to Paypal dispute. AVG say because of this dispute, they are unable to issue a refund or offer any assistance. So why not respond to Paypal? Obviously a con. The agreement was for £3.99 monthly. As well as the non refund, install any AVG product and you will be bombarded with popups regarding online security and PC performance. Another ploy to wear you down until you inadvertently click on something which allows them to debit your account. This is what I believe happened to me.

I have had AVG for a decade, yesterday I clicked on the AP on my laptop and noticed the page looked different and did not have the AVG logo on it. I called AVG and questioned this. I allowed them to emulate into my computer and during a scan a page of installed items appeared. The agent claimed that the reason I was getting an incomplete screen while trying to access the AVG scan feature is that I have several antivirus programs installed. Well they were on the screen but I had NEVER seen them before! Of course I was offered several fixes at a fee, up to $199.00, I declined. As soon as the call and connection ended I pulled up all I had installed and NONE of the items that were listed on the screen during the conversation with the AVG agent appeared. I reinstalled AVG using my license number and all was resolved. Curious at best. I am now very suspicious of AVG, anyone else have this issue with them.
Updated on 08/05/2018: I first posted the problem with AVG in June 2018. I had an agent at AVG emulate into my computer where she ran a report claiming my computer had issues and that AVG could fix them at a cost. I declined, after the call I ran my own report and nothing showed up that was a threat or issue. I also called my own computer tech who ran several tests and scans and nothing showed up that was an issue. This is the last response from AVG... I am still waiting. Canceling PayPal also. I send an email to AVG, received nonsense of sorry to see you go if I wanted to stay they would give me this for free blah blah. No, I never gave consent nor did I get a notification of intent of withdrawal. I replied stating, "No, I need my money refunded." They in turn stated they could not because the bank and a dispute, which was untrue because I have not contact my bank yet since they replied via email.
Called my bank, found out they is not block or dispute and they stated they thought the email was odd. Found a number to AVG to call and this person was saying he can help me, asking me not for the case numbers but what software. I told him what does that matter. When I stated I wanted the refund he then asked my computer information to gain access!! I couldn't believe I heard correctly, I asked him to repeat it and sure enough, "madam I'm going to give you a few steps to help me gain access to your computer to get your refund." I then said, "You're crazy. Give you access to my personal computer?!!" Yelled at him and hung up. Now I have a dispute and the bank is involved. Since 17 April, 2018, AVG has not been providing Anti-Hacking protection. I paid for full Internet protection, including Anti-Hacking protection. I called their 1800 number on the first day, the person I spoke to could not provide a link to restore the Anti-Hacking protection. Then a person called Bincy keeps sending me emails telling me that they are aware of the problem, and keeps telling me that I should not mention it on their Community Support page.
Also, I paid $59.95 for 12 month subscription, I notice that to renew the subscription next year (2019) it will double to $120.00. So nearly a week later I still do not have Anti-Hacking protection, even though I paid for it. The ACCC (in Australia) should investigate software companies that promise protection, accept payment to provide full Internet protection and are unable to do so, should not be allowed to continue their business. It is stealing and they should be dealt with like any other thief.

As a small business I strive to keep cost down and buy good products. I've used AVG for years but late last year I sprung for the Internet Security Version. I immediately found an issue I never had before. I can see my desktop PC from my laptop and access files as I have always done. However, any desktop PC cannot access the laptop. I fumbled around with the AVG interface for half an hour (I am not a novice with PCs or software, I consider myself at least competent if not a power user) and finally found the "Enhanced Firewall" on the laptop AVG install. The interface showing the working IP addresses and such is hi tech and looks cool but is NOT intuitive AT ALL.
Short story, I ended up TURNING OFF the hi tech firewall and turning the old Windows firewall BACK ON. Trying to change or edit permissions is a yeoman task! You click on the router IP and no provision for rules, unblock, block etc come up! AVG used to be a moderately simple to use product for me with experience in IT work and network security. However, this new version requires a degree in effective mind reading to use! Performance is great but if the firewall is a stone wall with difficult or unclear instructions or options "make a new rule" for example, a new rule for what??
You should be able to click on the IP of your router in their hi tech screen and say "Block or Unblock" end of complexity. I loved AVG because it was light, nimble and pretty effective but now I am not so sure. Evaluate the options and as I am, a business guy who hung up his RJ45 cables to do training find a product that is effective, easy to configure and cost effective. I don't know if AVG is or will continue to be that product!

I recently called AVG because I upgraded from the free anti-virus to internet security. I downloaded the new add-on and everything worked fine until a few days later. I called AVG and was told by a Filipino agent that I needed "special tools" that would get rid of Avast on my computer and that it would cost me extra money. I was then transferred to her manager who tried telling me the same thing!
First off, Avast has free removal tools on their website along with every other company. I used this to take it off and went to the my subscription tab in AVG, clicked my subscription and inserted the info needed. This completely corrected the issue. No extra $$ needed. I'm also very upset that there are no American reps to speak with and all call center agents are outsourced to the Philippines. I have no problems with Filipinos, but our cultures clash. I recently purchased AVG Internet Security with the name Ultimate on the end but it doesn't say that on the software title, was told by customer service it is? Anyway, had trouble loading it on my netbook and called customer service and they obviously were wanting to sell me a tech support package for like $149.00, I believe it was, and I said NO but then got it loaded with better info from a customer service person. This AVG is for more than one computer and so I removed a free version of another brand of antivirus on my other computer, which is a desktop, that was working just fine and installed my purchased version of AVG, after removing the other free version of course. As normal it required the usual reboot only to just get to the desktop and then. Boom it reboots. It soon was apparent the software wasn't going to run and I then returned computer to an earlier time with the restore point.
Again to try and make a long story short, they were trying to run me down that same rabbit hole and soon would've been wanting to sell me tech support again for second time. This reminds me of Norton Internet Security, I used their software for maybe 4 years and it later became buggy and wanted to sell tech support to me and reap profits. I might add that last year when I renewed AVG I was using the free version for a bit and it allowed me to use the AVG Tuneup, what a mistake. My hibernate mode never worked after that. I am done with these dummies, they permanently lost a customer just like Norton did. Oh and, after I purchased this AVG from Best Buy the girl then says, "By the way no returns." From now on I will say, "Okay want a refund but I didn't think I'd have issues with it," boy was I wrong. Don't waste your money. They are not the same company.

AVG may have been a credible company in the past, but downloading their latest software on my desktop computer, I had the biggest nightmare I have ever experienced, and I hope nobody ever has to deal with it. After downloading their "antivirus" software directly from their site, I executed the installation and was prompted to restart my computer. Following the restart, I logged in as usual, and when my desktop image loaded up, it suddenly backed out and went back to the login screen, saying my "login credentials had expired" and I needed to "use an admin account". Well, being the only user on my computer, I WAS an admin, and I had been locked away from my personal files, business software, and years of work/images/videos potentially gone.
I immediately looked up AVG's number and called them and explained what happened, and was directed through their customer service to create another "User" account using the command line and fancy coding, and eventually they were able to create a new Admin user which showed the software which was downloaded on the computer for all users, but my desktop image and all personal files tied to my personal account were obviously still not accessible. I was then told by the "customer support specialist" that I had to PAY MONEY to get further help in getting back into my user account. I was outraged, they were telling me, "Well we fixed your computer but you want extended help which is going to cost you $129 for a one-time service fee".
They transferred me to a supervisor after I asked for one, and she tried to tell me that my computer was fixed and that any additional issues I was experiencing were due to "other problems on my computer which previously existed". She even had the audacity to say to me "My technician tells me that he was able to get an Admin account created and says that you were able to log in, were you not? I don't understand how AVG is responsible for you not being able to get into your personal files when you just told me you were able to log in..." I was outraged that they were trying to blame me for the problems I was having. I reset my computer every night and this problem was directly tied with the installation of their software. Before they put me on the line with some supposed "supervisor" **, I had asked the computer technician how common of a problem this was, and the guy said this type of thing happens all the time!
I mentioned this to the lady when she was insisting that the problem wasn't caused by their software and that I had to pay, and she said that the computer technician never told me it "was a common issue" and that the problem I was experiencing was a unique one which she had "never seen before" and which her "trusted software" never created. Complete and total **. After playing games with this stupid ** and being tied up with her for over an hour and a half, she finally gave in and shared a phone number for their "customer service" line. I figured she was just getting rid of me with another automated line or something, but it did eventually pick up with a human who simply instructed me to restore to a system restore point (inside the Admin account they created for me) to a time before the software was installed.
So after about 3 or 4 hours I finally had my computer back. However, at some point within the annoying hour and a half where I was talking with this "supervisor" lady who was INSISTING that I had to pay money (going over all her package pricing, etc) I was extremely exasperated. Towards the end I even got to the point where I told her that I would have to file a lawsuit against the company if I was forced to pay money to recover my data from a corporate entity which hijacked the use of my computer in the first place. I asked the lady where the company headquarters were located because I was trying to convince her that I was serious about suing them, really I was just ** her trying to get the help from her without having to pay $100-$200, but when I asked her that she answered that she was in Indonesia and that the company headquarters was in India.
There was a long pause after that where both her and I didn't say anything but mutually understood each other; that there was no chance that I could legally sue scammers located in these parts of the world. And now it makes perfect sense to me why they are not a US-regulated enterprise. Regardless, I told her that if I could not sue, that I would leave scathing reviews of my experience in any location I could possibly find, so that nobody else falls into the trap and has their personal computer hijacked like I did. After telling her this, she said "Oh yea? Oh so you are going to make a serious accusation against me like that? Well then if you are going to accuse us of something like that, that's a really serious type of thing, and we won't help you in that case."
I basically had to lie to her and apologize saying that I was just really frustrated and I wanted her to see how important this was to me, but I reassured her that I wouldn't leave bad reviews. And to be honest, I was planning on keeping my word and I really WASN'T going to leave bad reviews anywhere (even though I should have all along) UNTIL these ENTIRE LAST TWO WEEKS have been non-stop telemarketer abuse on the cell phone that I called her from. My cell phone used to not be that bad for these types of spam calls, but now I get telemarketer calls at least 3-4 times a day and it's strikingly obvious that the "supervisor" ** from AVG put me on their **-list after I made that "threat" to her of TALKING ABOUT MY EXPERIENCE. A-Stay A-Way from AVG. What a NIGHTMARE!!!

Granted, I'm running with 2.5 tb of space so 20 gigs is a drop in the bucket, but still. A few years ago it was barely 185 mb. This morning, after deciding to let Windows Defender helm the wheel with Malwarebytes as back-up while I did some research and talked to my full stack dev guy on what he uses and why, it spots what AVG scans have missed for, oh, SIX MONTHS? Windows Defender picked up Trojan.Poweliks that AVG had been missing on its full scan every week, on a quick scan. Run Malwarebytes and it spots roughly 41 instances of where this trojan has replicated itself. I would recommend skipping AVG. It's essentially adware at this point.

They said they had send me an email informing me of the auto renewal to an email that I no longer even had which gives no choice to stop them. I have made over 10 calls to them and they emailed me back with one employee refusing to refund any money and another email says they will only refund this year's charge. So who do I believe. I believe this is a great injustice and should be stopped. I have read that companies like this are charging people for the rest of their lives for auto renewal even after they have cancelled their subscriptions. This is just wrong! I warn anyone who ever pushes a auto renewal button or that would even consider using AVG. They are thieves.

Partway through the year this business of my AVG being out of date started happening. During this same period, I learned the original company had been sold.
Well, guess what? It just isn't the same folks or the same business philosophy. They began by keeping me on a seamlessly never ending call with a technician who told me that my AVG was, indeed, out of date, because they had upgraded their software. Well, in my opinion, I should have been able to update my software antivirus coverage by clicking their update button. But their tech said, no, I would have to pay for that "fix." He said that I had remnants of other antivirus software on my system that was messing theirs up. Funny that it never bothered it at all until the company was sold. So, I was kicked upstairs to an incredibly rude supervisor, in India, who told me the same thing...i.e., that to fix their defective software for which I had paid a full year's coverage, I would have to pay.
This is a total scam. I paid for a full year's service. If, in the interim, they do something to their software that makes it no longer work on my computer, then they should fix it at no cost. This is akin to the airbag situation in certain auto makes. The airbag no longer works, so they fix it. They don't charge me for manufacturing or trying to change a faulty product. AVG used to be a good product. I trusted it. Now, I no longer trust it, nor would I ever recommend it to anyone. Their techs in India are trained to present arguments against the consumer in hopes that the consumer will just cave in and pay the money. This is not right. As for me, I intend to send this to as many scam agencies as I possibly can, and if I can find a government consumer protection agency, I will send it to them as well. It has been my experience that this is often what happens when a good company sells out to a larger company with no consumer values.
To that larger company, we are just a number. They don't need us because 10,000 others are waiting in line to be scammed. And think, if only 1/2 of their scams are ever contested, they come out ahead. I would invite anyone who cares about good service and buying a good product to boycott this bunch of scam artists. AVG is a ripoff in its current state, both in terms of quality of product and customer support or service.

Alright so I've been extremely patient and tried to give them time to help me with my problem. Either their tech support is inept or they just don't care, so this is me trying to get something accomplished. This will also be going on every review board and legal recourse I can find and have access to! So on Sept 24th I reached out to tech support as my phone started going off saying it was stolen. It stopped on its own but I wasn't able to get into my account to find out why. I documented this in the email. I received an email the following morning.
The message read as my phone was locked and how to unlock said phone. I sent a reply better explaining the actual issue and what my phone was doing. I didn't receive any response. The next evening my phone again went off saying it was stolen. I logged into my account and found there is an error with my SIM. I dug around on the site trying to find a way to contact tech support via phone as email didn't seem to get anywhere. I spoke with a lady who said she'd get me to the right people as she was part of the paid tech support. The person I spoke to said there was nothing he could do, that I'd need to wait for a response via email. This makes no sense!
I emailed back to the tech support ticket explaining this repeat of said problem. No response for another day. I reached out to their company, on Facebook, and was asked to please be patient as they were escalating the trouble ticket and I should have a response in a max of 2 hrs. This was yesterday evening at around 2300 EST. I didn't receive any response until 1407 EST. Nice 2 hrs but that's beside the point. The response stated that they understand I'm having trouble getting onto the webpage and that the problem is probably a temporary issue. NO mention of the actual problem with my phone or anything else. This is after I'd put in the last 2 emails that I was able to access my account and what the site stated was the problem.
So here it is the 27th, 3 days later, still no competent help and no other way of getting support! Keep in mind I PAY for this service! This isn't a free setup and hasn't been for over a year. That means that AVG is taking my money and when I have a possible breach, they're nowhere to be found! This is unacceptable! I'm not asking for much, I just want actual support for their product, that's it! As I have carried their software on all my machines, as paid services, I believe there should be some kind of support. AVG tech support might as well have asked me if it was turned on! I do electronic troubleshooting so I've already troubleshot back to your software. This is flat out ridiculous! Maybe by posting this inability or concern for a possible breach, something will get fixed. This will also be going to their corporate office. Maybe their C level will have more care!

I spent countless hours (over 10+) trying to rectify the issue with numerous technicians with no results and that I must reinstall Windows 7 on my computer, when asked why does my computer run fine without AVG enabled there was no answer. For over 2 weeks AVG service had to be disabled in order to make the computer operate. I asked that I be compensated for that time and a refund for the remaining year of service I had paid them for.
THEY REFUSED TO ISSUE A REFUND saying that I had not contacted them to correct the issue remotely and that my 30 days since purchase had long expired due to the fact that I had purchased a two contact with them and one year wasn't even used yet and they also replied that they would take me off their auto renewal in which I had already done previously when I purchased their product. END RESULT is that they are not a company to deal with and My advice is to call your credit card company or PayPal and make sure they don't make a charge for a renewal on your account. I figured that it got a bad download and so I bought AVG Tune up which I had difficulty installing. I have had AVG for about ten years, but in the last couple of years when it is time to renew it has seemed like the pop-up hard sell has gotten worse and worse. I have had the feeling that if I didn't renew a feature my browsers would suddenly start to have problems. I thought this was just confirmation bias or paranoia. Now I think that AVG is deliberately ** up my browser response.
I recently renewed my license and now it plays tricks by doing certain scans and then stopping to tell you that you need to upgrade for the next very important protection feature. I didn't pay for those extra features. After a couple of days my browser stopped streaming music after a few seconds, and the same with RealPlayer! And a reliable site like YouTube would not load completely!

I have used AVG Antivirus Free for a number of years. It's on a secondary computer but used frequently. I liked where you could stop the scan started at power up to free up resources. I liked that you could click a button and start a scan then tell it to power off the PC when done. Now, with this latest update (version 17.5.3021), AVG has decided to force upgrades to the paid version by removing features. The scan does not start at power up. The scan does not start with a click. You have to wait until an initial scan is complete, then click Next. The scan takes much longer than previously. This would not be a problem if you could tell it to shut down when complete. That was removed. The only place I could find this option was under Scheduled scans. This kind of, sort of works. It does not seem to always run.
The biggest issue is the system has slowed down. It can take more time to open browsers (some other apps seem to be slower?). It can take minutes to open a website and sometimes I have to just give up. No, it's not ** sites, it's my bank sites! (others too). I have found that I can fix this for a while by running System Mechanic. I have not yet determined exactly what AVG's update did. Kind of like what Microsoft updates used to do. I am convinced they made this update to force me into the paid versions. They have succeeded, I am evaluating other products. Sad. I used to recommend AVG. Now I would say absolutely no.

Also with previous version you used to get opportunity to pause and restart scan, with this version if you halt scan it will not let you resume without going back to the beginning and so you have to do the whole 14-hour scan again. I contacted AVG and told them I wanted a refund as they have "breached my contract" but they say you have to cancel within one month of buying year's license. You're responsible for where you go on the internet. Your computer came like that with malware already on it. You're not allowed to use any other software except AVG to protect your computer. We can troubleshoot for free, but to fix you must pay either $79, $119, or $199.
Logically; if you already paid for complete protection and you're not allowed to use anything else on your computer; then if one "attack" gets through which is reasonable I think... then why should that be an upsell opportunity for millions of subscribers. Think about it... 1 malware gets through... gets through on millions of other computers... AVG will use the data and make an update to their software (so I educated them) or not if they're not ethical and use it as an excuse to earn $79 fee's x 100 million subscribers! Holy cow. I also explained to them that I canceled my AVG in 2016 and should not have to cancel it every year for the rest of my life. Needless to say their Customer Service people are the worst and would not agree to refund my money. They told me again that my AVG was canceled but I could not receive a refund.
I told them that I was going to cancel my credit card so they would not be able to charge my card again next year. I am also deleting anything relating to AVG from my computer. It just doesn't seem fair that I have to make these type of drastic changes to my credit card because they plan to charge my card every year unless I call every year to cancel. That is not right. I would advise anyone NOT to go with AVG. They will not cancel your service when you ask them to. You will have to cancel it every year for the rest of your life.

I have used AVG free for many years, and had no issues. I finally decided to pay for it, and am I sorry that I did. Now it will not allow me to access my Home Network, and keeps changing my settings to "Public Network", and will not allow me to access the internet. This happens every time my computer is turned off and back on, or if it comes out of hibernation. It is very frustrating. A few weeks ago I talked to one of their service reps, and she remotely uninstalled and then reinstalled the Firewall Component, stating that the firewall was out of date. That solved the issue only until the computer was turned off again.
The only way I can get on the internet is to uninstall AVG. I have done this several times, but am done wasting my time with it. AVG is so complicated, with not a lot of self-help available. I really don't like people remotely connecting to my computer to help. They should have kept it simple so consumers can actually figure out the settings and how to make it work. I am just done with it, and am seeking a better alternative. I sure wish I didn't pay for it. I should have just kept using the free version. I am so frustrated with them now that I don't want to even go back to their free version.

Honestly, I am not sure if it's AVG Zen or AVG this or that! There are three different programs on my Programs list, and I only need one - the anti-viral. The other stuff is a platform-based "all in one" and I do NOT like it. I have other programs, set specifically to time/date and duty. I don't want or need the constant pop-ups to "buy me, buy me, buy me!" by AVG. Called customer service, and got shunted to different people, one of whom was, I swear, a robot! Sounded like one of those robotic commentators on YouTube. Beware AI at AVG! Just now going to uninstall ALL versions of AVG, and using Microsoft's freebie; it should know it's own stuff, right? I AM using Microsoft OS!

I purchased a 1 year subscription for Internet Security in 2016 and had no problems at all. Now in 2017 when I had to renew my subscription and update the program all I have are problems. My computer continues to freeze and I am forced to do a forced shutdown. I contacted AVG Helpline and the only thing they tried to convince me of was that my hard drive was not good and I must first pay them to have it fixed. I know for a fact that I have a very good laptop with extremely large memory and excellent hard drive as I work as a data analyst. I have removed the program and now all works OK. I do not recommend AVG to anyone.

We bought this for my husband's computer 2 years ago and got notification that we were up for renewal. We immediately canceled and received email confirmations reflecting the change. We were then charged anyway for the following year's subscription. We are attempting to get the credit card to reverse the charge but it's an ongoing battle that I shouldn't have to fight. What a joke of a company and a giant waste of my time.

I've been a user of AVG Free for years. When I moved to France, I decided to upgrade on general principles - it seemed as though I was moving closer to known bad guys and I would be depending on my ability to use my laptop for work and to communicate with family and friends. I made the mistake of trying PC TuneUP as an add-on to my account. Big mistake.
Two reasons. First, it didn't seem to do any more for my machine than a combination of CCleaner and Microsoft's own utilities could do. So why spend money? But more annoying, endlessly annoying, are the pop ups from AVG's marketing people. Every day for weeks, in the middle of work or play. AVG reminds me that my subscription has run out and they want my money. As a customer of their anti-virus suite, I even contacted customer service and complained, saying that I was mad enough not to renew my anti-virus with them unless they stopped the pop ups. Crickets. And the pop ups continue. Beware.

Update to free AVG Antivirus always wants to trick me into downloading Google's stuff for chrome and something else I am unable to evaluate. Be very careful to uncheck. See boxes usually hidden down in their smaller type. Free AVG works well [as far as I can tell]. The price is right. Note: Because I use free AVG Antivirus, I guess you could say that myself and lots of other users have a somewhat 'personal' relationship with AVG [see words in 'certify' area].

Have used AVG Free for many years. Update notice received yesterday. Updated. Noticed that Opera VPN no longer worked. Restored to point prior to update. Didn't help. Could neither re-install nor remove with Windows uninstall. Finally had to use AVG Remover to remove update and try again. Reinstalled successfully. Still interferes with Opera VPN. Resolved by turning off AVG before booting Opera, then turning it back on. Cumbersome but seems to work. Clicking on AVG settings gets nothing in the left column where I believe choices for settings are supposed to be. Blank. Cannot find where to establish scan schedule. Should be in the list that does not show? E-mail no longer shows that it has been reviewed, though one online article suggests that is not a problem.
Called AVG support line. First I was given another number to call. Not in service. Called first number again. No help. Clerk repeated problem description, put me on hold to seek an answer, reported nothing. Repeated a couple of times before I gave up. Tried online help. Only for paying customers. Not satisfactory! One star or less for customer service. Good product ruined? Will pop-ups urging purchase continue to be an annoyance?

I bought a new computer but needed AVG to put it over on my new PC, the AVG guy took over my PC and messed it up by removing items and make shortcuts all of which did not want. When all was said and done they billed me $100!!! I had already paid for AVG for a year, I said, "No. I already paid you by way of PayPal for a year." and he said, "Then I can't help you." What the hell!!! Then he said, "Okay $90." and again I said, "No way. I already paid. Not 1 penny more." I got angry and hung the phone up, he keeps calling me want to fix it, told him not to call me again and he still does. Last call I told him I got another service and NOT TO CALL me again and that I was going to go online and complain.

On March 24, 2017, I cancelled my automatic renewal and received an email from AVG confirming my cancellation. In fact, since this had happened to me previously, I removed all AVG software from my computers and contracted with another supplier. Today I received an email advising me that my automatic subscription would be renewed on May 27, 2017. I called AVG, and after waiting on hold for 20 minutes, I was connected to a representative. Half way through describing my situation, this representative purposely hung up on me. I was upset and he didn't want to deal with me. I called back and requested to speak with a supervisor.
After researching my account she advised me that AVG had no record of my cancellation. I offered to forward the cancellation confirmation email but she refused. She told me she would cancel the automatic renewal on two of my AVG subscriptions and promised she would send me an email confirming these cancellations within 5 to 10 minutes. That was 2 hours ago and I have not received an email from her. AVG is entirely unethical in its practices. Do not do any business with them unless you are prepared to deal with a lot of headaches!!

Pay attention! AVG take money from you automatically (without you use your own card) for renewing licenses up to two weeks before the expiry of the old ones. So if you do not care to remember when your license expires and you do not announce them more than two weeks before, AVG COMPANY take your money from your own account for a new license, even if the new price is higher than what you originally paid.

Around Nov 2016 my wife made the mistake of replying to a ad from AVAST (NOW AVG) saying "we can offer you a free month trial for our VPN" (New York if available and who knows where else). This VPN would shield you from anyone knowing what you were doing on the UU-net (sorry old school UNIX) and protect you from BLA, BLA, BLA.
Now if they said they could protect us from ** TRUMP the Bump I may have bought in, No such luck. The US is and will be screwed by TRUMP the Bump. But anyways politics aside she was suppose to be protected from anyone trying to hack into her outgoing /incoming data streams. NO SUCH LUCK. The VPN turned our Verizon fiber 100k into 3-10K (if I am not mixing up K with Meg which I think I am). Sorry I was a CE/CS/SQA engineer for years during the UNIX, VMS, Apple put 4 5 inch disks in to boot DAYS... To right before CELL phone apps, was disabled after that and swore off technology (due to the fact that the best job I ever had was with a start-up in MA right before 9-11 and afterwards MA lost 20-30 maybe more engineering jobs from the YOUNG coke snorting drunk driving BUSH JR). But I digress.
I tried to cancel the AVAST vpn by calling some Slavic for communist country (probably with a trump development somewhere) and for 3 months was given the run around by someone whose second language may have been English... NOT SURE if they could actually speak it. They were RUDE, Condescending, Easter European ** who now have a taste of democracy. They were laughing, rude and were not even listening to what me or my wife has to say. THAT IS AVAST... NOW Avg. They could not and never did cancel the one month account that was now going on 3 months.
We called Discover who immediately cancelled all future payments and changed the card Number. Not knowing all the details I then got a 1 year virus subscription to AVG (Stupid me AVAST??? AVG). This program SUCKS. I have not even tried to delete it yet but I hear it is a Nightmare and there is no UN-install programs. AND THE WORST PART is 1-2 months after I used a credit card to sign up for this Communist service I have had 2 separate credit cards used without my knowledge.
My bank caught the problem since these are two card that I never use and are locked in a safe. They have a 0 balance and I use them sometimes for online transactions to see if there are problems. WELL there are. AVAST AVG or whoever the hell they are I believe used my card after I ordered products from them. Another RUSSIAN triate. I am writing up a detailed report for the MA Attorney Generals office. A lot of good that will do with an offshore company who LOVES and supports DONALD TRUMP the Bump. Not sure what else to do. Pissed off and Angry in MA.

I have used AVG Internet Security (3PCs) for over 10 years. We have never been infected by a virus. Even AVG Support in the few cases it was requested responded with helpful knowledge. Then, after the repeated annoyance of advertising when using AVG Antivirus Free on our Android devices, I bought AVG Unlimited with ZEN. That was November 2016, and since then I have wasted many dozen hours with issues on communications between the Win10 PC version and the link to Android devices. AVG Support is divided between AVG for Windows and AVG for Android. The Support people are not knowledgeable, they cut and paste stock answers that show they do not understand the question. The two groups cannot deal with the interface between the two applications, and neither takes ownership of any issue.
AVG Anti-theft does not work. I have repeatedly tested it with four different Android devices, and it only communicates Location and Shout if the devices are each inside our home. Take them away, and they cannot find anything. As of this morning, I have used my Unlimited ZEN to upgrade the AVG Android to the Pro to eliminate ads. I uninstalled both Internet Security and Unlimited (there is a particular order to do this but it works) and deleted all previous AVG downloads. I downloaded AVG Internet Security again through my account, installed it and get all definitions up to date. No Unlimited. No ZEN. I have been told that you can no longer buy any AVG product without ZEN. I do not know what my options will be when the current subscription runs out in September 2017. Bad business choices by AVG!

It's useless and I had problems from the start. I tried to install 6 times before it finally worked, only for it to find 0/10 of my test viruses and 0 viruses at all afterwards. There is a 50% chance AVG won't start at all, when it does I get more errors than I ever encountered on any other program. I am very computer literate with over 5 years experience building and repairing PCs and laptops. However I have never been able to fix AVG. Right now I'm trying to disable it to install a program, however I couldn't get it to open, so I tried to uninstall. Yes, you guessed it, "Uninstallation Failed." This is the most awful antivirus I have encountered. AVG is built on Avast technology so I'll give them a miss and use Kaspersky instead.
