In making account enquiries with AVG, I have experienced poor language communication, and a tendency for AVG staff to change the subject when they have difficulty. This has occurred to the extent that I become traumatised at the thought of having to deal with "support" people at the Company. Today, after being wheeled around the paddock for over an hour by an employee who failed to deal with a simple record-keeping request, and after several requests to be transferred to a supervisor, I finally was allowed to speak to Paul - AVG Sales Manila.
To this point, I intended to remove all business of my various companies and trusts to a competitor. Paul was a refreshing change from other AVG employees. He was :- A good listener, articulate, knew his subject, product knowledge and also how to retrieve appropriate information, determined to resolve the outstanding issue. Logical.
He analysed and resolved the problem quickly and to the point. In my opinion Paul is a good employee who made several attempts to sell AVG products in an admirable way without being offensive. Only because of the support supplied by Paul, our Company and its Associates at this time will continue to use AVG. I suggest AVG consider (for the benefit of their Company) using Paul's honest, incisive and simple customer relations and problem solving techniques to improve their Customer Service.

AVG PC tuneup was bought by me 1 month ago but not initialized. I then got repeated pop-ups saying I had to buy AVG PC tuneup even though I had bought it a month ago. When installed it did not recognize that I had already bought it. When I reviewed my purchase history I see that over the past year and a half this has happened a couple of times. I will contact them for a refund. But beware about double purchases or repeat subscriptions before the original one has run out.

I had been using AVG for Antivirus and bought Internet Security for $69.99. I tried to install 4-5 times it would error out each time. I saw where they offered to charge $19.99 to install it for you. How convenient. I asked them to just give me my money back. Instead support sends me e-mail indicating that they will install for FREE if I let them connect to my PC. At first I did not want them to connect. 10 days later I decided to allow them to try. Support could not connect, at least that is what they claimed. I asked again to get my money back. Next statement they still had not given money back.
I actually believe they caused more issues with my PC than they resolved as a software. I would find a company in USA and use them instead. When I called to get my money one last time. Support guy hung up on me. I called back, asked for a Manager/Supervisor. He said he was the Manager. The same moron that just hung-up on me then called me an idiot. I cannot tell you what I said, but I called my Credit Card company and got my refund on my own, since they could not.

Day after NY my laptop locked up, I called in and they repaired it because I was under a monthly plan. On the following Friday, my PC got the same virus. I called AVG again, but now because it was a different virus, I would have to upgrade and pay $110 plus continue to pay the $10 per month. So after four hours with them calling back and forth, it appears to be fixed. They said to run only in Google on this PC.
So today, I called in because my laptop was acting up again and I could not use my microphone. They scanned it (they said) then said that I would need to call Google because the problem was with them. I called Google, they can fix it, but they need $299 to fix it. He showed me a problem in my programs and said the whole problem was caused by AVG. So if AVG says Google is best, and Google says AVG is not compatible with Windows 10 - why are they referring back and forth, and why is everyone asking for more money when I paid $35 for them to "fix" the laptop, another $110 to "fix" the PC and refer me to Google to fix a problem that AVG caused who wanted to charge me another $299 to fix a problem that one of them or the other caused.
I am 69 and disabled, and they are really taking advantage of me. I will be calling in the morning to try to recover some of the original payment. I did NOT go for the additional $299. I got scam fever at that point. My God, this could have went on all night. To make it all worse, the original charge for the $109 was run thru my bank three times. I will be using AVAST after I get my money back.

I kept getting messages that I would have to buy additional package to get full protection. I paid again through my account. When I tried to get my money back they interrogated me. I couldn't take it. Hung up. I sent the credit card statement in. They are not in USA. I kept getting messages I needed a server. I didn't have one. I downloaded a server app. It took over my computer, erased windows. AVG never worked. It never told me of a virus. I gave up on getting my money back. I'm paying 150.00 now to get rid of my viruses. Didn't get an email for confirmation of the purchase. I pick up my computer tomorrow... no repair receipt yet. I hope this is the credit card receipt I'm sending you. My phone won't let me open. I paid for the original package for the antivirus at Office Depot.

Avast/AVG sold me a service for my Mac computer ($80/year) that included AVG Ultimate software and remote technical services to install the software and remove any malware. I later discovered that AVG Ultimate does not exist for Mac computers. AVG Ultimate software exists only for Windows computers. Avast/AVG technicians installed a readily available free version of antivirus software that does not include the features of Ultimate. The free software never worked. It went into a frozen state whenever it ran and therefore no malware could be detected or removed. Technical support abandoned its remote access and support knowing that the problem still existed.
Avast/AVG misrepresented the software they sold me (a FREE version!) and failed to provide the technical services and support they promised. AVG promises a 30 day satisfaction guarantee. It even states it on my online AVG account but that does not apply to purchases through their Avast business partner. AVG refuses to refund the purchase.

Tried to make the in app purchase of AVG pro. Paid for the app with PayPal which although slightly more expensive than the add to the phone bill option, turned out to be one of the best decisions I made. I received the welcome email which continued the link to download the app. The link did not work. I got an error message telling me the fault had been reported. Tried the customer help/service link - that did not work either, got the same error message. Tried the AVG website from a computer, again none of the links worked. The website was still giving out the same error message.
Waited a couple of days to see if the website was working, still no joy. Tried to phone customer services, had a 20 minute wait on hold and spoke to a technical help guy and got cut off mid call. Tried again, had another 20 minutes on hold before speaking to someone else who told me it wasn't a technical issue and was passed to the sales support. Sales support wouldn't help - got told it was not a sales problem and referred me back to the website support despite me telling them the website links were not working. Tried to contact AVG through the PayPal contact system twice and got no response. Eventually recovered payment through the PayPal dispute process.

This crap is supposed to be "malware protection". It's so bad. It's basically malware itself. It hogs PC resources that it doesn't need making your computer run slower and it WILL NOT LET YOU REMOVE IT! I have uninstalled it 5 times now, I have even made it to the point where it lets you complete a survey after uninstalling. But, when you restart your computer it just comes back! It even hogs MORE resources because it immediately starts updating itself to the latest version because at least some of the patches were removed.
There are endless pop-ups that clog up your screen, always on start up and once or twice an hour while just using the PC. I promise you are better off with the default MS defender that comes on all Windows PCs than you are with this ludicrous product. I had the free version and I can't even imagine how much more intrusive and invasive the paid version must be!! If you update your PC regularly you are better off with NOTHING than to install this. If you install it you will regret it. I sure as hell do.

I downloaded an update to my AVG Antivirus a few days ago after some download problems which meant for a short period I was not protected. I even asked at the time whether there was a virus affecting my system. It finally got sorted. I then started experiencing serious internet problems. This evening after several hours on a frustrating off shore phone call with their customer service team when they managed to temporarily "fix" my internet problem. I was told that my system had indeed been infected by the Zeus Trojan horse and I would need to pay AVG £129 to sort it out. I refused pointing out that I am paying for the protection of my system by AVG and I would expect them to supply me with a fix free of charge. I could in the background demanding money from other customers.
They then shut down my temporary internet connection and told me to find a technician. I have been a customer of AVG for more than 10 years and found their response this evening inexcusable. It felt very much like opportunistic behavior to make a fast buck from their customer when in a desperate situation. I would be interested to hear from other users of AVG and similar experiences.

AVG took an unauthorized payment of 72.99 for Anti-Virus. I contacted them 2 years ago and told them to stop taking money from my account for their antivirus and lo and behold they have done it again today 13-12-16 making me overdrawn. I tried to call them but the number just rang out all the time so I tried another 2 numbers - did not get past their automation. Any time the call was answered they cut me off, so went onto chat which took me 47 minutes exactly to get through, got some help. It felt as though they did not want anyone contacting them to ask for a refund because when I contacted their numbers listed on their website I didn't get through or got cut off.
Overall, I have wasted 2 hours of my working day where I now feel like throwing my works phone and computer out the window. This is the worst customer service I have ever had. The frustration just went from bad to worse. They were not helpful at all. The worst part of it is I would never buy AVG products and especially now because of the way I have been treated by them. Moral of the story is - if you want a good customer service and back up do not go for AVG.
Message to AVG: I contacted you on 2 occasions to tell you not to take unauthorized payments from my account. Yes you have told me that I will be refunded but who is going to refund the overdrawn charges from my bank and give me back the 2 lost production hours from my work. Maybe you should think of these things before you take money that does not belong to you. I have also had to contact the fraud department at my bank and Paypal just in case AVG do not refund my money. I mean can you trust a company that you cannot contact? Mmm...NO YOU CAN'T.

I installed AVG security suite about six months ago to clean up a serious duplicate file problem (the result of combining several computers' files onto a new computer). Most of these were photos and audio files and the tool did actually work very well. I paid for the full suite for unlimited devices and have installed it on all the computers in the studio. I have used AVG in the past, as well as Comodo. I still use Comodo for virus checking as well.
Aside: having two antivirus softwares sounds extreme, but over the years I have found that if you run these two together, eventually one of them will find something the other will miss. Since I may wander off into dirty little online alleyways from time to time, I like to keep my shots current. Usually I schedule the scans instead of having them run automatically; this keeps them from tangling up the CPU.
AVG's Tuneup extension seemed to have a lot of features that were desirable, such as putting programs you weren't using to sleep if they weren't being used. Fine, I like that okay. But it also has some features that you really, really need to read carefully and NEVER run without checking to see what their defaults are. The "delete log files" was checked and hey, you need that if you are going to be troubleshooting.
One issue that I'm thinking of here is "disable unused programs". I have a Windows 8 tablet that came with a bunch of stuff pre-installed. I have deleted some of them, some of the little games that I know I won't use, but others I don't know, maybe that one time I'll decide to make my own ringtone and need to use the ringtone editing tool. But maybe not. So I won't delete it, but I'm OK with disabling it.
That sounds really nice but what AVG actually did was disable Mozilla Firefox Updater, disable Microsoft Office Suite (I was USING Excel and Word in another window AT THE TIME, wtf), and other programs I used all the time. It did catch a couple of the pre-installed Windows apps but for the most part, this was not successful, and I wound up undoing the changes. This took me the better part of my day to figure out why programs weren't starting even if I clicked on the file name from inside the folder.
I thought I was going to have to reinstall Office, and had my disk and external drive plugged in. AVG wouldn't allow the drive to run because it was on "turbo mode" which disables things like backup drives. I accidentally found the problem, and its subsequent solution, when I was looking up how to get out of Turbo Mode.
But now I think I have a virus in my virus checker! Sometime in the last day a file called gmsd_us_007010190.exe has turned up in the services panel of the Task Manager. It calls Firefox and opens many windows. I have browser extensions such as NoScript and RequestPolicy that stopped it from running whatever it would have had those not been in place. I like Mozilla Firefox for its user-based offerings and keep my browser pretty locked down. AVG offers an online browsing protection but I don't want to use it, I like my system how it is thanks.
I looked in the Task Scheduler to find out where this fresh browser hell came from and it is being called BY AVG's TuneUp module. I disabled this task and all the other AVG ones as well, but disabling a task is not the same as removing a virus. I had AVG check its own directory and it found nothing. I had Comodo check the directory and it found nothing. I visually inspected every file name in the AVG program directory and did not find the above named executable in there, so it's hiding elsewhere. Both programs are in a race to see who will turn it up first.
In the meantime, today, every time I opened the AVG control panel it has flooded my screen with popups telling me that my McAfee subscription has expired. I have not installed McAfee. AVG is not a McAfee product. I try to click to make them go away and it crashes the control panel. I looked again in the AVG directory. There are some .zip, .zfs files. I clicked on one to inspect its contents (not extract them). There was a readme.txt file in it, which not only requires a password, but begins running an executable! I looked at this a couple times and then went into that folder and deleted everything installed on that day (11/25).
It's annoying enough that even though I bought the whole suite, it keeps giving me pop ups telling me that I should run their browser protection tool and keeps trying to sell me other items (Do I have to buy the whole company to escape from their marketing?). But to have it disable programs I was *using* and then start spamming me with ads from their competitor - which are not sized correctly for my computer, either - that's really irritating. The thought that they are probably not actually doing that but instead have been HACKED - their security service is whitelisted and runs outside the Comodo sandbox, which means it has access to ALL my files and registry - that is inexcusable.
It is a security program FAIL and I'm going to have to replace it. From what I see others complaining about, I'm also going to have to change the number of the card I used to buy this, since evidently AVG will auto-renew even after you tell them to cancel your subscription. This software used to be my go-to product. I am so disappointed in them. I have had to spend a lot of time ** my computer and I have a deadline that's going to be overrun now because of it. Clients understand you getting hacked but that's the last thing you want to tell someone when what you're giving them is a digital product. My reputation is on the line here as well.

We renewed our AVG Internet Security Business Edition and was double charged on our credit card. When I originally called to have the double charged fixed they assured me it would be removed. However 3 weeks later it was still on the credit card and you have exactly one month to request a refund. When I contacted our AVG account rep he was more concerned with us renewing our AVG desktop subscriptions than helping us. When I asked to speak to his supervisor, his supervisor was equally worthless. We ended up having to dispute both AVG charges with VISA in order to get the money refunded. Needless to say we took our business elsewhere. I also found out the AVG and AVAST are the same company.

Deleted everything AVG from my computer the day before the subscription was to expire. Thought that was the end of the matter. But NO!
A check of my bank account showed that AVG took the money for a renewal out of my account. Trying to get a human at AVG was a nightmare. I have little money so I was persistent. Even the online "helper" referred me to a website, and gave me the WRONG site at first! Made claim and waited to hear that my claim was "approved." Still have excess programs on my computer. Was told "must purchase AVG product". Have been charged $279.99 AUD FOR NOTHING! Something went wrong 10 days later (27/7/2016) - contacted GuruAid Support for AVG, got the problem fixed properly and they removed AVG installed anti-virus and tune-up that was CAUSING THE PROBLEM!
When I tried to contact AVG, the number on the website, the number 1844-234-6039, the message is "The number you have dialed is not connected" and no other numbers are listed. Requested refund but have been told I won't get my money back! Very disappointed and angry at AVG because I can't work out what I've paid for! AVG has ripped me off!!! The refund "policy" sucks, because I know I won't get a refund! What angers me the most is that the problem was not fixed, despite what they say, and I had to contact another company to fix AVG's screw-up! As for free anti-virus, I doubt there's any such thing! Didn't even get a receipt - I should have asked for one.

On 6/23/16 I had my laptop computer serviced by a technician. As part of the service the technician replaced the McAfee Security package with the AVG Basic FREE Security package. The system ran very well. On the same date, while on my computer, I received quite a few AVG pop-ups for the AVG Protection One package that assured an enhanced security coverage of my computer system for the price of $50.99. As such, I purchased the upgrade from AVG and immediately downloaded the software with the assistance of one of AVG's technicians. Once the download was completed, my system began to lock up after several reboots. As a result, I had to return my computer to my personal technician to uninstall the AVG upgrade and replace it again with the FREE AVG download. My system ran smoothly thereafter.
I contacted AVG on the very same date 6/23/16 and explained the problems I had with the software upgrade and that I had to have it uninstalled. Therefore, I was instructed to submit a refund request. On July 4, 2016 AVG contacted me via email and stated that a refund could not be completed due to an "Exceptional Delay" and that they would contact me later when the refund would be available. I have no idea what an "Exceptional Delay" means nor is there an explanation on their website. After not hearing back from AVG after two weeks, I contacted them again and was told that the "Exceptional Delay" is still being reviewed. After hearing this I told the AVG representative that I thought the way AVG was handling this refund was of a fraudulent nature. After speaking with AVG representative I did some research on their website.
Although I made a live request with an AVG representative for a refund based upon their software not being compatible with my system, the representative at no time advised me that I had to cancel my AVG subscription first. On 7/13/16 I learned that in order to get the refund the request has to be made within 30 days of the purchase date. I am well within the 30 days. So, on 7/13/16 I went into my AVG account and attempted to cancel my subscription and was unsuccessful as every time I submitted my request for cancellation it stated an "Internal Error Occurred." Another way for AVG to insure they keep my $50.99, in my humble opinion that AVG is manipulating refund money for their own financial interests and leaving the customer in limbo or uninformed as their representative had every chance to advice me that I had to cancel the subscription first.
I am a senior citizen and I believe that AVG is targeting senior citizens and possible other age demographics hoping that the customers will either forget about the refund or be uninformed to the point where their 30 day limitation has past... AVG is conducting business unethically and consumers must be aware of their corrupt practices. P. S. I still have not received my refund.

3 Years ago, I made the mistake of buying the "deal" AVG had on its antivirus and other products. Unbeknownst to me, there was a DEFAULT put on everyone's account file to have a yearly subscription payment AUTO charged to my Visa. I never used the account or checked what they had placed on the account profile because I was buying a product, not interested in making an account. They made the account with added the defaults. THAT is fraudulent. I should have had a page with those options visible to me to check or uncheck.
I contested when I saw that they had charged me for the second year, when I did not wish to be auto charged and only wanted virus protection and not the other products. They said it was too late, as I had already been emailed the registrations and I would have to go online and physically remove all the check marks myself if I wanted to remove the auto subscription. I did so for all the products (and I assure you I NEVER check marked them originally and would never do so ever!!) and continued to complain. I was given a confirmation number and told that my request was accepted. I have most of those emails fortunately. The problem is that this company will give you the runaround, and then tell the credit card company it was your fault as they only give refunds within 30 days, so they will delay and obfuscate to make sure it lasts longer!
And now for the third year, even though I went onto their site and REMOVED the check marks to REMOVE their auto subscribe, I was being charged again! (I wish I could make this long story short.) I immediately called the credit card company and they said an investigation was underway and that my credit card was cancelled (they lied). I had to use the AVG as I closed the AVG online account and could not use their site email to complain as they required your account information to make a complaint there! The company is in the Netherlands, but the (non)customer service is somewhere else with thick accents and "yes ma'am" people who pretend that they care. I have 6 pages of the copied transcript of the conversation with the "rep" assuring me I was well within the 30 days and my VISA account would be reimbursed. However, when he balked at giving me a confirmation number I knew he was lying just as the year before.
I now had that conversation, several emails from the last 2 years and supposedly Visa fraud to assure me the return of my money. I called Visa again and lo and behold, they had no record of my previous complaints! No one had taken down my previous lengthy complaints about AVG and NO ONE was trying to get my money back as they had promised! It is a double scam, because VISA doesn't want to do the work and the person I spoke to said they can't say AVG is being fraudulent as they are a "respected company" even though what AVG had done was fraudulently charge me for 2 years for products I never used because I NEVER DOWNLOADED THEM!!
Because VISA is now a complicit partner in the scam, I kept every iota of info, wrote a lengthy letter in an email to VISA, attached all of the documents whereby AVG promised reimbursement, and all other emails from them and told them to assure me that I would be reimbursed, and to give me a confirmation file number. They do not have such a thing as a file number, only my name and address as my CC was cancelled!! VISA is no longer my credit card company as they suck royally!
I called one last time, and they confirmed only that they assured me that my complaint was legitimate and even though small was being taken seriously (NOT). They said they had to give 45 for days for AVG to reply and I would then get a letter saying whether I would be reimbursed or not. What I got after 45 days was another letter saying that they were still waiting for a reply from AVG. Although VISA sent me a second credit card, I knew that if they did not get reimbursement, they would try to charge my new account the amount!
I never renewed it and will only have horrible things to say about Visa and their horrible service! They are literally endorsing scammers and made me fight THEM as well when the "product" was not even used by me!!! It is a horrible scam. AVG is a scammer site. DO NOT fall for those "best online antivirus protection" ads! AVG likely paid people to say that and paid Google for those sites to go to the top of the search! THEY are scammers, out and out defrauding knowing that US/Canada laws cannot affect them!

If you are considering a computer security service, beware of AVG. My credit card statement indicated a fee of $89.00 for the purchase of AVG security. I called AVG on June 2, and spoke to a representative who spoke in very broken English and kept referring to me as "Sir Edward". I explained that I never purchased the service nor did I authorize anyone to do so and asked that the company issue a refund to my credit card service. I was given a case number re: the request.
When I returned from a business trip several days later, an email was waiting for me indicating that the request was denied since the 30-day time limit had ended. I emailed the company and asked how they could expect me to contact them when I had no knowledge of a purchase being made; and, if a 30 day time limit had expired why that information was not provided in my earlier phone conversation. I received a response in which I was invited to a "free" remote assistance service" that may/may not work with my computer; and, if I preferred a refund, to please reply to that email. I replied and told them that I wanted the refund. A few days later the company regretted to inform me that they were unable to process a refund or offer a prorated refund. I responded that I found their decision unacceptable and expected them to honor their offer of a refund in their previous emailing.
I received an email continuing to deny the request and thanking me for my patience and understanding! I cannot comment on the quality of this company's product but I can attest to what I consider a dishonest service that placates with a gratitude for patience and understanding after having reneged on an offer to refund. For me, their behavior raises the question of a scam. BEWARE!

The virus companies I used in the past never charged. What is the point of having a virus software if it doesn't catch the virus and they charge you to remove it? The second virus came 2 weeks later and is located in the AVG directory. AVG again wanted money which I refused. I requested a refund on the software and they refused saying it was past the 30 days. And if you won't read the prompting messages, you will automatically try their PC TUNE UP and if it gets expired, the messages wont stop showing to your PC until you uninstall the trial version. For computer savvy people, it's okay as they know how to do it. But for others who are not techie, they see that the messages showing is a virus so they tend to uninstall all. But the software detects every virus, malware and other things that can harm my PC, so Im happy.

I used AVG Internet for some time and after the first year my subscription renewed automatically. AVG sent me a link and when I clicked on this link the system downloaded two new programmes - AVG Protection and AVG Zen. I didn't understand the difference and why these programmes differed from my subscription. I contacted AVG Tech Support and was given a complex answer which didn't make much sense. My system did work so I just carried on using AVG Protection.
After a short time I started receiving Pop Up messages about 4 times a day telling me that I HAD to renew my subscription or security could be compromised - I had ONLY 295 days remaining. I contacted Tech Support and they told me to uninstall all of the AVG software and sent me a re-install link. I carried out this action and the Pop-Ups continued. After a few days I contacted tech support again and they took remote control of my machine and 'solved' the problem. The system then slowed dramatically and continually 'froze'. It took me 2 days to re-configure and remove all of the problems. The Pop Ups continued.
In October 2015 I asked AVG for a refund but they refused a it had been longer than a month. They did, however, confirm that they would cancel all future renewals and that they would not take any further payments. I installed a pop-up blocker which seemed to do the job. I recently uninstalled AVG and use AVAST Free. I was surprised to find that AVG then took a payment of £45.00 from my PayPal Account for renewal of AVG Protection. Clearly the e-mail sent in 2015 was a blatant lie. PayPal will not refund as they say I have an on-going agreement. They never looked at the evidence and never asked for a copy of the e-mail so they must be part of the same cabal. AVG now tell me that they have to review the 'case' and they will make a judgement shortly. So much for their 'Unquestioned Refund Policy'. Step 1: Lie to the customer. Step 2: Steal their money. Step 3: Reject the 'claim'.
I view this action as simple fraud or even theft. Interestingly the Police don't view this as a crime. Trading Standards and OFCOM couldn't care at all so these thieves are free to pursue their fraudulent business practices unhindered. I have tried to fax AVG's office in the UK but the fax number listed on AVG's website is disconnected - why am I not surprised! I have, however, invested another £70.00 and issued a Small Claims Court Writ to recover my money. My advice - don't deal with any Software house that has Automatic Renewal - you will NEVER escape without being ripped off. We need the law to be changed.

I have had AVG for about 12 years and it has always been a trusted service for me. In this past year, I've had nothing but disappointing issues. My neighbor, who is a computer savvy tech at a big company took a look at my computer because the homepage disappeared and we couldn't get anywhere on it. It kept going around in circles with nothing to show. He said that AVG used to be a great company, but they were bought out not too long ago by a company, he thought, in India, and now they weren't trustworthy and had devious practices.
About 6 months ago, I tried to add my computer AVG with my husband's, so I called in to their service to do that. They claimed they couldn't, but for a fee of $99 they could take over the computer (claimed it had a bad virus) and bring it back to running condition. They did this, and everything seemed to be OK for a while. Then I received a bill for an added service for them to maintain the computer for one year so that it would stay in good running, safe condition. I told them I never signed up for this and they said that I sure did. It's difficult to understand their English (Indian) and we went round and round about the charge of about $200 and finally I threatened to complain to the ConsumerAffairs and they agreed to give me a credit back on my credit card. I would avoid dealing with this company, because now, they've added programs in another language (Indian, Iranian, Iraq?) that I can not delete.
Our computer friend said that's what they do, they add on spyware that wasn't there before. He said to never download ANYTHING that is free software, to go directly to the site itself to download. The free downloads often have added third party devious attachments to spy or take over your computer or make it non-functional. He suggested to go to the Microsoft site and use their protection, it was about the best thing to do. He suggested either Edge or Chrome for the search engine. He said to NEVER EVER let anyone take over your computer, to take it to a reputable technician to have it straightened out. Hope this helps. I had no idea that AVG was sold to another company about 6 months ago.

Install AVG free, because it's what I have trusted and recommended to friends for years as a solid free anti-virus to have in the background in addition to Malwarebytes every few days. By default it installs zen and PC tuneup. Don't think much of it because I don't use extensive features of the program so it shouldn't ever be an issue, but then... Wait, what's this!? Oh my trial period has expired. Well that's incredibly annoying that I was forced into a trial, considering a trial implies I was compliant in trying the product. I figure, "oh well I can just uninstall it I guess". Go to control panel to programs to do what I thought would be a quick uninstall and a *small* waste of my time. But of course, why would you give an option to uninstall what is described as a separate program? So in short, it wasn't an option in programs under the control panel.
So I go to the actual folder inside AVG that holds PC tuneup. Inside I find what I thought was a solution to my now full on frustration. FINALLY! I think to myself, an application made to uninstall this godforsaken program. I then attempt to open it but by now, of course, you know that would be too easy for the demon who called themselves the lead design on this software project. It opens the pop-up window telling me how my trial has expired. So I can't uninstall without paying for the program. At this time I decide, "** AVG, this is a new level of customer disrespect, and IF decide to just uninstall the whole thing. AVG itself uninstalls just fine and after restarting my PC I agree to myself to just put it behind me and that every company puts out bad software sometimes.
Log back in and WOULDN'T YOU KNOW IT, there is the lovely little nemesis of mine: the "your trial has expired" pane, for a program that supposedly isn't even on my computer anymore. "I can't be the first." I think as I search the internet for a solution to my issue. Instead, what I encounter is AVG "technical" support asking for system information about the users computer, as if it somehow wasn't entirely the program being the issue... I exit out after reading over 5 or 6 forums on the topic, all with the customer support saying they needed addition system information.
I go back into the files and obviously the AVG folder is still there and wouldn't you know I can't uninstall ZEN until Tuneup is gone first, which apparently isn't feasible. At this time I attempt to open up some of the internal files so that I can edit them so it will encounter errors when it tries to launch. It won't even let me rename the files, and yes, as the Admin account on the computer I have Admin options, or rather, I usually do.
Kudos to anybody who gets through that block of text, I know AVG won't bother because why read reviews when you can just show how much you disrespect your users by forcing them to forever keep a baseline at best tune up tool that is, in essence, a waste of my hard drive resources. I apologize for any grammatical errors, I refused to reread it for accuracy because in doing so I would waste more time than I already have. Don't worry though, AVG. I'll take my time and personally speak to anybody I see using or speaking about your product about my delightful experience.

After performing a scan I decided to investigate the opportunity of purchasing and installing AVG Tune up. That's when the problem/s began. I downloaded the install link, when asked to enter my license number at the end of installation I got an error message stating I had an invalid license. (Paid up for 1 year subscription.) After attempting to re-install 3 times and using their AVG Fix Tool (I am computer savvy) I had no result. So I contacted their Technical Support.
Using their chat line, the 1st tech dropped off the conversation and a 2nd tech jumped with an apology that they had technical issues. (I think the 1st one found the problem too hard.) The 2nd tech, using remote (which I do not like and don't trust... no matter who it is) after re-booting my PC twice in Safe Mode, also mysteriously dropped off the line. I call back. Before I let them close our 2-hour chat I check all features and only some of the features in the program were active. I questioned why they were not turned on. I was told that they would have to forward this to their Senior dept and I would be contacted by email. Several days went by and again contacted Support because I have not heard anything. I was told they would send it to level 3 tier. That someone would contact me soon. Several days went by and this again took place. This time I was very upset.

I made the mistake of clicking on the free offer for a computer sweep and from then on every half hour or so, a pop-up window would display interrupting my work. The company support is terrible and once they get your credit card, they automatically bill you for future services and it is up to YOU to contact them to discontinue with a wait of course. It is a shame because all the ratings say the product works well. Why annoy the heck out of your user?

Don't think that your CC will be any help! Oh they talk nice to you, but they know there is no possible way to resolve the AVG recurring charges. When I disputed the charge, the Credit Card CC customer service"supposedly" tried and could not contact AVG. What a laugh. Same experience as me when I tried.
AVG is based in Netherlands where laws appear NOT to apply for US CC charges. AVG appears to hide behind billing in Ireland or India or some other jurisdiction where the banking CC cannot reach them, CC would never give me a straight answer. Likely CC knows this, and they play the cardholder for the charges, stringing you along until you eventually give up. I asked for a new CC. Apparently CC did not cancel merchant authorization for AVG. NOW, TWO YEARS and $59.99 time Two charges $120 minus 2 cents LATER, AVG continues to charge me $59.99 every year, and every year I waste my Credit Card's time -and mine- trying to bring these bandits to resolve. What makes AVG a bad product is they will advertise a good product then they will hide each individual feature behind a paywall. If you want features (A) (B) (C) and (D) each feature will come costing you fifty dollars EACH equaling over TWO HUNDRED AND FORTY DOLLARS. The worse part is, with a price tag like that, it is an annual subscription rather than a single verified purchase. I can understand if there is a subscription fee for AVG's entire library of software, at (**) price tag.
But the fact that, you have to pay 60 dollars to unlock firewall, an additional 60 dollars for privacy protection, 60 dollars for tune up utilities (Oh by the way, use to be $25 dollars before AVG did the hostile take over), 60 dollars for anti-spam protection, 60 dollars for data safety and encryption. This company is by far the worse to deal with. They are grotesque and disgusting. Their customer service is by far, vomit inducing. At first it accepted your user ID and given password and issue a congratulation message, then it would not recognize the password. The tech support I called for help run into the same problem but eventually created account but with misspelled user ID.
It took AVG 10 days to remove this account and create another one with the correct ID on my behalf. But all the attempts to install the product ended up with another trial version that has expiration date in 30 days after the installation. Three tech support representatives were trying to fix the problem by removing and reinstalling AVG products but unsuccessfully. Every time promising to escalate the issue to “senior technician”, but never did. Although on a couple occasions I was getting e-mails from CS with a request to explain the problem details, but never got back to me after I sent the responses. Today, November 5, 2015 I awoke to find an email that appeared to offer me the chance to renew my AVG AntiVirus Program. Last year in Mid-November I purchased a 1-year subscription and did not select, request or read anywhere that it was an auto-renewal subscription. If that had been required I would have not made the purchase. The letter today said nothing about will charge my account, or have charged my account. Since 1 month after my purchase last year I called and cancelled my subscription. I have never used the software. It failed me three times in big ways and cost me time and money, not stopping the viruses it promised to protect me against. Later in this morning I checked my bank account and found that AVG charged my account, WITHOUT MY PERMISSION, for $39.99 .
At that number, I demanded to be given a number to AVG direct so I could get the unauthorized charges refunded. The number they gave me was 1-844-259-8811. At that number, I reached the department responsible for refunds.
I explained the problem. At first they told me I had to go to a website specially set up for refunds. I refused and explained about the unauthorized charge to a bank account that was still open and inactive. After some time and at my insistence my request for reversal was actioned. The lady gave me a case number and said within 2 or 3 days I will receive an email from the refund team.
I also complained that when I had cancelled my AVG protection in January of this year my refund was never received. Now I must call my bank and give them this information. BEWARE, AVG is doing illegal and unauthorized renewals of their product. Better you find another type of antivirus rather than put up with this type of BS. I am a very open minded person but I begin to wonder why the last 2 times I had problems with online purchases the company involved was located in India.

Now it is October and I have spent hours attempting to clear this account and receive a credit for this payment. Every time I email, I get a "sorry, refund has been credited" -- but the credit card statements don't show any credit and that account was closed in April.
Now, today, 10/14/2015, I have called three (3) different numbers and have been hung up on by each one, after I start to explain why I am calling. The first man was more willing to help, but when I started asking for PROOF/copies of the credit issued and date, etc, the phone suddenly went dead. Guess I was getting too pushy about getting it in writing and copies of the actual documents. I'm sorry that I can't get satisfaction, and based on other reviews it seems to be the way this company operates. IF you do decide to use the service, DO NOT offer them a credit card, because it appears they have absolutely no intention of refunding any payments and if you read other reviews, the charges are made automatically each year, without your knowledge unless you happen to see it on your credit card statement. Purchased AVG Virus Protection and ran a virus scan everyday. AVG failed to stop the Cryptowall virus from infecting our computers. This resulted in over 20+ years of client data to be destroyed, a significant loss of income, additional financial expense in having to replace the computers, and on-going problems in attempting to rebuild lost data. Our e-mail program was destroyed as well.
We contacted AVG and reported the issue and requested that they close our account and refund our money. Since we purchased a two-year protection program from them and the one-year would be in March 2015, we requested that they refund one year of our payment. AVG said they would close our account, but no refund would be issued. AVG charges for services that they do not provide and then refuse to refund customer's money when a system is completely destroyed by their failure to protect.

Sadly, allowing a foreign enterprise to have ownership of this type of computer security utility suite is just a BAD IDEA. All of the major hacks and violations of MAJOR - FORMERLY SECURE - computer networks have come out of Europe and Asia -- so why are we entrusting our systems to foreigners? The bottom line: I am DONE with Tune Up Utility as long as AVG - or for that matter, any other REGISTERED foreign enterprise - is involved in the delivery and support of my computer security software. July 10, 2011 - I purchased AVG Internet Security (a 2-year plan) for $69.99. I read the Terms and Conditions at that time. On August 20, 2013, I renewed for a third year. Starting June 5, 2014, I have had, and continue to have, daily migraines, making it very difficult to concentrate. I also have Leukemia and Fibromyalgia. Two days later my computer permanently quit.
June 16, 2014 - AVG sent me an email reminding me that my service would expire on August 1, 2014. Without a computer, I had no knowledge of that. I was unable to receive their email messages or respond to them, and the product key was never retrieved by me. I had no idea until my bank account was overdrawn on July 21, 2014 for $54.99 and a $25.00 overdraft charge. That same day, I tried calling AVG using the phone numbers I received at sign-up: 855-261-6192 and 877-648-3134. Both phone numbers were disconnected and it didn't give me a current number for me to reach AVG.
I contacted PayPal to dispute the charges and was told that, because I gave AVG my PayPal account number on the original purchase, that AVG has the right to deduct money from my account at any time. I keep a spreadsheet for all of my online activities that are ongoing, including the date I bought it, the due date and any other stipulations. These records are impeccable. If I had been aware of the new policy, I would have recorded that in August of 2013 and readily available to me, even without my computer, on my hard copy.
Last week, on November 3, 2014, I tried to contact AVG through their website. There was no record of my account nor my email address. I finally found a link about retrieving a license and from there, I was able to send them an email. They already had my money. They didn't even have the courtesy to keep my account open? My account should have stayed open until it expired on August 20, 2015. Their reply was, "No refund due, and they are unable to prorate it." I lost $79.99, because of unethical practices by AVG.
My confirmation email from AVG for August 20, 2013 renewal, had the auto-renewal information at the very bottom of the page under Terms and Conditions. If AVG changed their policy to automatically renew for every purchase, there should have been a warning telling me to read the new terms of service, not sneaking it at the bottom of the page and saying that I activated AVG's Continuing Protection Service when I knowingly did not do that. They should also include the date they are going to take it from my bank account. I would have notated that on my spreadsheet and this would never have happened to me.
I realize that AVG had no way of knowing that my computer quit on me when they sent me the emails in June and July. Because they got no response from me, they assumed that it was okay to deduct the price from my PayPal account. Now that AVG has the facts, their presumption that no response gives them an okay to take the money from my account, should be null and void.

But once it got to 88% on the scan, my browsers stopped responding and Skype came up as pixelated and oddly colored and I couldn't sign in. So, thinking I may have downloaded a bad version or the wrong version for my OS -64 bit- I uninstalled as soon as the scan was done - due to it not allowing me to do anything but sit and watch as my computer basically ate itself by freezing and glitching away - and re-installed using a different version hoping that would solve the problem.
But as soon as it was out of my system, everything went back to normal. My browsers came back up, Skype cleared and everything was fine. Until the re-installation came up - without prompt! - and the whole process started all over again. 0/10, wouldn't use even if it was the only thing compatible with my system. I've been ill recently and thought that I had until the end of the month to renew my AVG service manually as I do every year. It appears that when I paid last year, AVG set me up for automatic payment renewal without my consent (or rather I consented without realizing when I agreed to their TOS). This would have been okay if AVG had actually taken the payment out on, or three days prior to, the renewal date. Instead, they took it out today, a full two weeks in advance. I'm on a strict budget and was already dealing with financial issues as the result of the July 4th holiday falling mid-week this year. This automatic renewal has now thrown everything off.
I called AVG and was transferred to a representative in India, who I could barely understand and who at times couldn't understand me. In the end, nothing could be done except for me to simply accept what happened. I asked the representative Eric (I doubt that's his real name as I've worked in a call center and know that Indian representatives are told to use "Americanized" names to make themselves more relatable) how I could leave feedback. He told me to email support@avg.com. I did so and received an email that the email address is no longer active. I searched online and I couldn't find a single method for US customers to file a complaint, leave feedback or contact a customer service representative in this country. The numbers listed for the United States all transfer to India.
I called AVG again and got representative Ryan, who told me at first to email AVG. I explained that the email doesn't work and then he advised me that AVG has to email me first and then I respond to that email with a case number. I've wasted two hours today dealing with it. It's ridiculous. At least I could understand the second representative better than the first. If AVG wants my business this time next year, they're really going to have to improve their business and customer service. I like the product, but not so much that I plan on wasting time like this in the future when I need to call them.

I was told that this was not AVG but they worked with AVG and I had the right number. Look, all I want is my money back and to be rid of these rip off companies. Can you help me?

I ordered the 2011 Antivirus for one computer, was charged for two computers. Sent a form email saying so, got a standard reply but no help. I decided that I didn’t want any of the programs because of a post onsite that read if this new program crashes your pc. I decided I wanted all of my money back. It has been over two days, I have no email response and there is no department in which to personally contact for refunds, only sales. Much less my money back. The only people I talked to were on live chat. They were not helpful because the company does not allow them customer service, only sales. There seems to be no customer service for this company. I am horribly offended and disappointed in this company. No one individual is at fault they have only the autonomy that they are given by AVG which is nothing as it turns out.

I purchased an anti-virus program from a supplies store on 02/10/10. I tried to install it on 03/10/10. The program was old-dated, and I had to call the support center. They gave me a new serial number, installed the program, and noticed my computers (The program was to be installed in three computers for two years.) started working too slow; some of the programs already in the computers didn't work at all.
I called some of the program companies to re-install the program, and after an hour trying to install the program, they found out that the program for anti-virus (AVG) was interfering with the operating system. I took my computer to a repair shop. The computer engineer said that in fact the anti-virus program was the reason of my computer performance to be too slow and that he also found some virus in the hard drive that went in through the system while having the anti-virus (AVG) when the CD container box has printed that it prevents these viruses to enter in the computer system.
I have talked several times to the support people at AVG, but they had no willingness to accept their product is not effective to work in my computers nor want to return my money back. I have spent at least 10 hours of my time and have lost several job opportunities due to this problem. The program I had and the upgraded new version was for my business; therefore, I was not able to perform my job due to this issue.

AVG Free antivirus has no way for you to connect with them unless you buy their product. I've been trying for 4 days to get the program, but no luck. I'd like to know what to do. They got rid of my McAfee Security so I could do the download, so I'm not protected now! My computer, not a year old yet, is subject to being destroyed.

I bought their 2-year anti-virus program. It kept freezing my computer. On day 33, I wrote to ask for help with it. Their response to me was to uninstall it. So I uninstalled it, and my computer worked fine again. I then wrote to ask for a refund and was told that I was beyond my 30-day return period. I'm out $67 for a program that won't work on my computer.

For years I used AVG and was very happy with it. Then in 2003, my computer got a virus and AVG was unable to remove it. I was forced to reformat the hard drive and lost everything. Since then I've used the free program Avast, which updates itself every day and am extremely happy with it. The result was that I lost all my "oldies songs" I'd had for years that used to be free to download.
