I cancelled my DirecTv account. Rep. mentioned to me about cancellation fee $410- I speak rep. Eva on chat tonight. She said system pulled you $410 when you cancelled your service with us. I try to explain to her that 1st rep. never told me anything about this. Eva keep insisting that system pulled your money same day. I also told her that I did not authorized this payment to DirecTv. Eva keep telling me the same thing. I believe this is a public corruption. No company can’t pulled a red penny without asking customers permission. DirecTv is a rip off !!!

DirecTV’s gift card processing has been a consistently frustrating experience. After switching from DirecTV Stream to satellite service, I was informed that I was a new customer and eligible for a $200 Visa gift card upon 90 days of service. I met the 90-day deadline and contacted the company to verify the gift card status. However, I was denied the gift card due to a requirement to originate from a different company. Despite this, I had already signed a 2-year contract, prompting the company to re-submit the gift card application. This process resulted in another 90-day wait. When I requested the termination of my contract due to the company’s failure to fulfill its obligations, I was refused. Instead of extending the wait period to 90 days, I am now facing an extended wait of 180 days. Furthermore, the company has declined to offer a bill credit as a resolution. This customer service experience has been exceptionally poor.

I was a 15+ year customer. When I cancelled my service in December of 24 I was told everything was good and I had actually overpaid. I received a refund. In April of 25 they send an email saying I was being turned over to collections for the exact amount that I was refunded. I was never late on paying my bill all those years of having their service. So when I contacted them about this they said I had been refunded twice which was not true. I received a card loaded with the exact amount of the refund and they said that it was also credited on my ATT bill which was not true. I have all my statements and there is no credit on any of them from December to current.
My bill now is less than the refund amount so there’s no way that this happened. They just want all the money they can get. So if you or anyone you know is considering DirecTv I would definitely look somewhere else. They used to care about people and their reputation but not anymore. That’s why I left. They priced themselves out of the TV market for me. $197 per month for the middle package is ridiculous unless you call every year to get a 12 month promotion and that is aggravating. You should not have to do that.

Customer service is an oxymoron when dealing with Direct. There is not a worse company to deal with than these folks. Long holds, then cut off after holding 20 minutes or so. Ask them why they are calling you and they have no idea ever. Useless is the best term to describe every Directv employee I have ever encountered.

My husband and I had DirecTV for over 19 years. We decided to cancel back in January. I had canceled the plan. The person on the phone said no need to send the equipment back. After it was canceled, one would assume they have no further bills. Instead, they billed me and then never sent a bill, and then sent it to their collection department. You have no other choice but to pay this bogus bill, or it goes on your credit. My mother-in-law had the same issue when she canceled hers; ours wasn't on automatic payment like hers, and they kept taking money out of her account. I would never do business with them again if that's how they treat a loyal customer of 19 years. Absolutely disgusting.

This company has fraudulent billing practices. They billed me for 36 months for equipment I did not have. When I pointed it out to them, the only thing I got was "Our policy is no more than a 90-day refund, for any reason." Use ANY other company. Don't be ripped off.

I have been with DirecTV for approximately 1 year and just as soon as my 2 year contract is up, I will never be suckered into going with them again. Service sucks, am always having to reset the modem. I was told that their internet with ATT would support my security cameras ...they do not. And then don't get me starting with the deceptive billing practices. As the old boy said, "Fool me once, shame on you." Never again ATT and DirecTv...

I called to try and get ahold of the driver and I’m completely slick of this guy parking in front of my house every day in my parking spot. Like does DIRECTV not have a shop they can park their vehicles at or pay their employees enough to have their own parking spot in front of their own house?

DirecTV cable is a dinosaur and they must know it - pricing for my wife & I as current customers was regularly increasing, then would decrease after a long phone call to them...This went on for years until we finally cancelled in Oct 2024. Their poor service didn't stop there - after finally sending us a refund for overbilling, DirecTV decided to invoice us for a $30 cancellation fee over 6 mos after cancelling and already receiving a overbilling check from them to close our account. We called and DirecTV wouldn't budge...Apparently their $30 cancellation fee was more important than their brand, customer loyalty and satisfaction...Our recommendation, DO NOT buy from DirecTV.

Boy what a fiasco! Long time DirecTV customer for over 20 years. My wife is retired AT&T employee which was ATT held. We moved back to our previous home which was rented but still had all the DirecTV connections. Was told by CHRIS over the phone that techs would come on a certain date to make sure the connections were good. Also promised a movers package with a $50 a month credit for one year and $200 gift card.
In addition to the tech not even showing up or contacting us, when I called back and spoke to REED, he said that Chris is on vacation, that they don't give $50 off and no tech, claiming that my wife is getting WHOLESALE pricing, which is false, I can get this same package $50 less just by signing up online. Not sure who they are trying to become, as they are NOT customer Attentive or friendly. Not sure where this will go, but alternative sources are quickly coming up. I would really advise any customer to check all the dots before they consider this company.

I've been a D-TV customer for over 10 yrs. Recently I had to replace my two receivers due to malfunctioning, now my new bill is $10.00 higher because D-TV said they are advanced receivers. Every year D-TV increase your monthly bill without any explanation. I would not recommend Directv to anyone. When you get in as a 1st time customer they offer great deals, cancel at end of 2 yrs otherwise they will hose you. They don't care about the long term customers they have! It is so backwards, instead of providing great deals and keeping the loyal customers they would rather charge the loyal ones more. Like I said when nearing the end of your promotion start shopping else where and leave them. They are not loyal to long term customers. I plan to cancel and switch to fiber-optics cable coming to my area next month. You can also switch to DISH-NETWORK TV.

I do not recommend DirecTV for the following reasons.
2. It is extremely expensive to cancel if you need to. $20 a month for the balance of the 2 year contract. I called and it was $360 to cancel. I waited 2 months and cancelled paying $320 on a fixed income. It it was cheaper than keeping the contract for 16 more months for $1760. Hard lesson to learn. No more contracts and be sure to ask when signing up how much it costs if you need to cancel. $20 a month for the remaining months.
3. The $7 a month remotes do not work with all TV brands and the DirecTV streaming does not work with all brands of TV. I was told I would need a Roku. Well why would I need their remote at $7 month? If you are not able to return one of their remotes, they charge you $120 on the account you have been using to pay the monthly fee. Are you kidding me? $120? Really? For a remote that doesn’t work on all TV’s! God old AT&T still doing their price gouging.
4. DirecTV and AT&T have been taking advantage of hard working and elderly people like me for years and getting away with it. This is why most people now have cut the cord with these outrageously expensive services. $134 a month is bad but not too bad but when you multiply that by 24 months that you are bound to, that $3,216.
5. The guide is a joke. What happened to turning on your TV with a guide of channels listed instead of needing to play multiple choice as to what you want to do? Way too confusing.
6. I’ll stick to the free stuff from now on.
BUYER BEWARE.

Avoid switching to DirecTV at an AT&T store based on promises alone! We made the switch only because they assured us we'd have access to all NBA games, especially Golden State Warriors matchups. Unfortunately, this turned out to be false, as the required add-ons weren't included. Even with the add-ons, some games are still unavailable for streaming in our area. We never faced such issues with Comcast Xfinity and may have to return to them. Additionally, what you're told online and in-store often contradicts—it's clear that they're not aligned on their information or policies.

I canceled my subscription to DirecTV a couple of days after I got it. I got the sports package at $69.99 which I felt was too expensive. Because there was a limited number of channels (less than 30) and no equipment. I needed to get a Disney subscription to use ESPN+, and I could not use the ESPN app on my other devices. Also, there were no local channels. For $69.99, all of these things should have been included. I could have complained. However, they would not have heard. They hear me now.

First, if I could give a MINUS 5 star rating, that would be too much. We started with DirecTV January 23, 2025. We have experienced nothing but issues since. I have called, but issues still persist. The channels go in and out and error message of "We are experiencing temporary issues playing this content, please give it a moment and try again" or "video still loading, try again later".
We enjoy our news programs on live television and we can't watch them in their entirety anymore without these issues. There are times when we turn the television on that we have a blue screen and when press "ok" on remote, error messages come up again. I think DirecTV is not as good as what it used to be (had several years ago) and they rope you in and stick you with a 2 year agreement knowing they will get money out of you if you cancel. I am going to contact the Better Business Bureau as well as the FCC and file formal complaints against this company. I signed up expecting to have a quality service I can watch television on without the issues that we have and a company that is willing to stand by the customer and make it right.

My title says it all. I bought my DirecTV plan for someone who needed the service as white noise. This person was elderly and in failing health. I signed up with a no contract agreement with the sales department person. As anticipated, the individual passed away last week (6 months since getting DirecTV,) and today I called to cancel the service. Lo and behold, there is a 2 year contract in place and a $360. buy out. I would NEVER have agreed to this term given the dynamics and have clearly been dealt a bait and switch agreement.
My effort to escalate the conversation was met with completely unmovable attitude and when I asked to provide a copy of the executed agreement that I signed, there was no such documentation available. I decided to try ATT-Uverse internet for my family. Deceptively the customer representative when I asked about cable TV said that this could be provided. However, it was not made clear that this was actually through DirecTV. It has been no less than a nightmare, especially with DirecTV. The installer from ATT-Uverse did not properly install the device to stream DirecTV on one of our smart TVs. A second ATT-Uverse technician did finally get the setup done properly. However, in the meantime, DirecTV sent two more TV devices even though I called and explicitly told DirecTV the original device was working. Now I am being charged $120 x 2 for two extra devices that took > 10 days sent to my home.
This happened despite my request not to send these, as the original device was working properly! The DirecTV customer service agents are all foreign with strong accents. It is hard to understand them, not to mention they misinterpret simple American English. Now I have to pay and additional $240 on my DirecTV bill. It has not even been 30 days, but DirecTV said that I only had 14 days to return the extra devices. What a scam!!!! I am a senior citizen (age 70), and I do not need this nonsense!

Directv has the most awful customer service I have ever encountered. They lock you in to a rate for a set period of time and then after that time has expired they constantly increase your price. Discussing your bill is extremely difficult. Canceling is extremely time consuming and difficult. To cancel you need to call, wait on hold for 20 minutes only for a representative to have to transfer you, then to have another representative harass you to keep the service for another 20 minutes. I cannot express how dissatisfied I am with this. The entire layout of this company. The only reason that I agreed to get them in the first place was because cable was not offered in my area. If anyone is considering getting DIRECTV, I would urge you to not.

Formal Complaint and Cancellation Notice for DirecTV Services. To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to formally express my profound dissatisfaction with the customer service I recently received from DirecTV. This dissatisfaction led to my decision to cancel my long-standing service with your company. Background: I have been a loyal DirecTV customer for many years, maintaining service at multiple addresses and consistently paying over $200 monthly for the privilege of your programming. This relationship has been built on a foundation of trust and mutual benefit, or so I thought.
Recent Incident: Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, I missed a single payment. In response, my services were immediately suspended without any prior notice or attempt to reach out for a discussion. When I attempted to rectify the situation by contacting customer service, I was met with an unyielding requirement to pay the full past-due balance before any conversation could take place regarding my account status or potential payment arrangements.
Customer Service Experience: Lack of Empathy: The customer service representatives I spoke with lacked the empathy and understanding expected from a company that prides itself on customer satisfaction. There was no attempt to understand the situation or offer any form of payment plan or temporary reinstatement of service while we sorted out the issue. Unprofessional Conduct: I was hung up on three times during my attempts to resolve this issue, which is not only unprofessional but also indicative of a severe lack of customer care training within your service team. Poor Communication: The interactions were recorded, and it's clear from those recordings that the representatives were not trained to handle customer grievances with the courtesy and respect one would expect, especially from a company associated with a brand like AT&T.
Conclusion: This experience has not only been disappointing but has also eroded the loyalty I once felt towards DirecTV. The customer service was not just substandard; it was the antithesis of what one would expect from a service provider we've supported for years. Cancellation: Given this experience, I have no choice but to cancel my DirecTV services immediately. I will not recommend your services to anyone, considering the level of disregard shown to long-term customers facing temporary difficulties.
Please ensure this cancellation is processed promptly and confirm in writing when my service has been terminated and my account closed. I expect no further charges to be applied to my account after the cancellation. Thank you for your attention to this matter. I hope this complaint serves as a wake-up call for DirecTV to reassess its customer service protocols to avoid alienating other customers in the future. Sincerely, Karl

The lack of customer service is a HUGE concern, and this company fails to provide equal access to senior citizens. My elderly mother signed up with DirecTV when her cable company stopped providing service to her area. From the beginning, we have had nothing but trouble with the service. The streaming device provided has randomly lost connection with her internet on multiple occasions. After doing all of the troubleshooting possible at home, I called for help. I requested that a technician come out and was informed that they don’t have technicians. When asked how to resolve the issue, I was told to get a technician. When asked how to go about finding a technician that would have knowledge of DirecTV devices and service, I was told to “ask a neighbor or a friend.”
My mother is 94 years old and has no experience with technology. She is basically homebound, and her TV is her only entertainment and connection to the outside world. I was told they could send a new device, since my troubleshooting didn’t work but it would take 4-6 business days and there would be no technicians to help my mother set it up. The lack of customer service is appalling. I feel that it is also age discrimination, as DirecTV is failing to provide equal access to seniors who have no tech knowledge. We will get out of the contract as soon as possible.

After putting up with numerous problems during the two year contract, I tried to cancel my service immediately due to a $55.86 increase in monthly service. First I was referred to their Loyalty Department, where I quickly learned they have Zero Loyalty. Then they charged me $166.99 for an additional month. I disputed the charge and now nearly three months later they are continuing to harass me for that charge. I would prefer to give them Zero Stars, because one is way more than they deserve.

It is now January 2025 and I came home yesterday to my directv. Being turned off because of me, not paying the $596.01. I was on the phone over an hour last night trying to get this fixed. They kept increasing their prices. When the gal called to add additional channels, I told her I need to cancel my subscription. She said she would get it taken care of and have it canceled. After 21 years with DirecTV high speed internet became available to us. After some research we found that we could utilize streaming services much cheaper. I attempted to cancel DirecTV on line but had to talk to a representative, then another. The object, of course, was to try and convince me to stay with them. After about 30 minutes, listening politely, and being offered a price about half of what I was paying, I finally had to tell the rep that if he didn't just cancel my service that I would cancel my two phones as well. That was on 8/3/24. I was advised that by cancelling the service on that date I had a zero balance. I then started receiving bills for about $173. I assumed bookkeeping would get caught up and all was well.
When I got the 3rd one I called the number on the bill and got an AT&T rep. After 19 minutes the rep could not access my account (and I had been able to as well) because I didn't have a "security code" which I've never been aware of, but wouldn't connect me to DirecTV. Finally gave up, hung up, and found a number for DirecTV. Same issue with account access so after 30 minutes and two reps they wore me down reading their scripts and not listening so I agreed to pay the darned bill. Then, they couldn't take a credit card payment because they couldn't access the closed account. Finally I was told that I had to go to an AT&T store and pay the bill.
So to recap (and I made them acknowledge "yes" to this): 20 year customer cancels service on 8/3/24 and was told there was a 0 balance. They actually cancelled the service on 8/15/24 (9 days past the billing date of 8/6/24) and we had no DirecTV after midnight 8/3/24. Now I'm told I owe an entire month because the actual service period, per DirecTV, is the 15th through 16th. And.... If this is true (which I have no way to verify because I can't access my account) I was deprived of two weeks of service but get no proration. (To them: correct???) Finally got a yes. I was in the customer service world for 50 years - there is no inkling of customer service at DirecTV.

They will not refund her additional charge because no one put it in the notes that she wanted her service cancelled and apparently whoever she initially talked to did not complete the cancellation. She was advised to pack all the equipment up and send it in, which was done over a month ago. I'm currently, still on hold because they didn't do their job correctly and are denying her a refund. I've been a DirecTV customer for 20 years. Ever since AT&T bought them out they went from a responsive caring provider to a nasty call center nightmare company. Most recently (I still have an account at my home with DTV.) I called them with a request to remove a wire hanging from one end of my rental property to another. It was on a high roof where they installed the dish and wires.
After going through 3 call centers to even find someone who understood and was trained on the problem they refused to correct this dangerous and unsightly problem. They said that if the account for that location was closed AT&T didn't own the equipment anymore and would not take down the wire (even though I see their servicemen sitting in their trucks in a parking lot regularly waiting for a call). After asking to speak to a supervisor I was cut off. Monopolistic attitude? I'll say. If you can avoid doing business with this company you'd be doing the world a favor. Hopefully DTV will go private again some day and go back to its original glory.

Sound out of my sound bar is fine but to regulate it up or down sometimes you have to turn to tv off and back on. Because of my hearing I wish to turn the CC program off and on and you have to go into settings to do so - not just a simple CC button. Your offshore “agents” for the most part are very and pleasant but lack of training makes their judgement questionable, ie I have 2 new remits sent out and the originals were ok. So if you sit down to watch at 7pm, the only things available are what's showing at 10pm on the East Coast. Any shows that you'd normally watch at "I've got a job" TV times are already over so are unavailable.
The only fix they offer is to DVR anything you'd like to watch so it's available at normal viewing times. So unless you're planning to search through the schedule way ahead of time to try to guess what you will want to watch on some future night and tape it, don't waste your time or money. I had DIRECTV for five years. Was always on time with my payments. The house that I lived in sold so I had to move in with a family member. I returned my equipment and they said I’d get a refund. Every time I asked about the refund they came had a different excuse each time. They said I had to wait 90 days and I did not receive the refund, then they said because of the billing cycle date blah blah blah, I will not get a refund. I received a statement saying -71.52 and they’ll pay to you on a Visa card. They even took a payment out of my account the next month. They did take care of that. I would not recommend DIRECTV because it goes up every year and you will not I get a refund from them because of the billing cycle!

They came back the following day and they installed the parts so I would have voice. When they were through the voice didn't work and as they were leaving they told me that I would need to leave the cabinet door open, so the equipment would get air. You don't leave a door open in the middle of a room. I called DirecTV and cancelled within 24 hours of their installation. I returned their equipment the next day. They didn't live up to their contract. They are sending me a bill for $667.67 for early termination.

First, I would like to say they offer me a three month free trial, and when the trial was over with, they raised my price and the reason they said they raised it was because I was on a bundle plan with AT&T phone service, which I’ve never had AT&T phone service so that right there was a lie. They offered me that so that they could raise my price, when they wouldn’t go back to my original price. I canceled the service which was in April, now I have called five times to send back equipment.
The first time they sent the equipment to an old address that I haven’t had in eight years, now they have been out here to service my service twice in those eight years so they have the correct address. And I see it all the time come in through my workplace where they have sent it to the old address instead of sending it to people‘s current address and when we have to call the customer to ask them that they say this an old address so I have called five times today to send this equipment back and each time they come up with some excuse that they will send it out again. Give it 5 to 7 business days but no response. Nothing has come to me yet. To me that is very poor service. Poor service. I will not ever suggest anyone use DIRECTV.

Do NOT use DISH TV. They will talk to you very nicely and then screw you completely. My father had DISH TV and suffered a terrible injury which he has not completely recovered from and ended up in assisted living with Hospice Care. I spent literal HOURS on the phone with the company and the service was supposed to be cancelled but they kept charging him. More Hours on the phone. I had to send copies of the assisted living contract as well as statement of injury and inability to speak on his behalf on the account. FINALLY, I was assured that everything was done and complete, the early termination of the account was waived, etc. Nothing was to be owed by my father.
Fast forward a month and I receive a bill for early termination of contract. Again, extensive time of the phone. NOW they claim they don’t have the information. I gave them the confirmation number. Then they claim that is ONLY for the termination (which they had already cancelled for non payment because I quit paying the bill after the first time I contacted them and cancelled the contract). They tell me I need to send the information AGAIN! I said everything is in the notes, NOPE, need to resend the information. So I hang up to dig out the information AGAIN! I call back and finally get a person, Now they can’t talk to me because I don’t have the PIN number for the account.
I told the lady that my father is incapable of giving me the number as he has dementia. Nope, can't access the account without a PIN. I provide her with Account number, payment dates, conversation dates, etc. NOPE, need the PIN number. I said that requirement was waived by the guy I spoke with that morning, a guy I spoke with a month earlier, and the women I spoke with the month before that. She had to speak with someone. After an extensive wait, was told NOPE, couldn’t talk to me because I didn’t have the PIN number. That was when I lost it because I realized they were giving me the royal runaround. I told them that was a NOT a possibility to get the PIN number from them as my DAD memory was not capable of that! I hung up, they then charged my Dad’s credit card for the entire charge. I didn’t even know they had the card number as the monthly fee was always paid monthly by check. THEY ARE CROOKED!!!

I have had DirecTV for 7 years. I have never had a problem with the service. The price seems a bit high for the quality of the channels. For us at least, there were only 5-6 that were worth watching, but they were in the higher tier packages. When I called to cancel services, it took over 30 minutes because of them trying to talk me into cheaper packages or discounts. From previous experience, I knew that this would be temporary and the price would just keep going back up. Even though I made it very clear that I wanted to cancel, there was a continual stream of "We hate to see you go and we can do this" comebacks. The representatives were very nice and were just doing their jobs, but this experience and the associated frustration made it clear that I won't ever sign up for satellite TV anymore because the cost and hassle aren't worth it.

I had AT&T U-Verse for over 10 years until last month. It was OK for when I first got it, but I didn't realize what I was missing the last few years. I have a 4K TV and several 1080p TVs. U-Verse only provided 720p. Menu functionality/features was limited and primitive by today's standards. With DirecTV Streaming, I feel like I've caught up with the times. I now have hi-def TV service that's worthy of my TVs and a box/remote with a great guide and streaming app inclusion. The DirecTV app for my Rokus and Firesticks on my other TVs and phone is ridiculously better/faster than the U-Verse app I've put up with for years. I tried other streaming TV service trials (they're not bad services), but they don't provide the "real cable/satellite" experience that DirecTV does. I thought about Spectrum, but since my phone and internet service is through AT&T, I stuck with them. I'm a tech guy and I'm very happy with my decision.

I dumped Dish and signed up with DirecTV. I asked the representative about the promotion and he told me he would enter the promotional code SWITCH into my account upon activation. My service was activated later that day.
After paying two billing cycles, I hadn’t received the Visa gift card. I called DirecTV on May 18, 2023 and their representative told me that I had to call their rewards department and provided me with the phone number. I called the rewards department and Kylie, a supervisor told me that no promo code was entered into my account at the time of activation and there was nothing I could do about it. Kylie told me that I would not be receiving a $300 Visa gift card.
This is definitely a case of negligence on the part of the initial representative who established my account and assured me that he had submitted the promo code. I also believe this is a case of misrepresentation and possibly fraud when Kylie who could see that my account was established during the time frame of the promotion declined to provide the offered $300 Visa gift card.

I recently had to call DirecTV as one of my HD boxes was giving me trouble. When they arrived they said they didn't have those boxes anymore and would have to change to a newer version. No problem, right. Wrong. The box they installed was basically what they use in rv's. We have surround sound and it doesn't have the capability to accommodate it. When I finally figured how to get to my streaming on the Firestick the only way I can watch TV is with the audio going to my TV speakers. The new box is basically junk if you have surround sound.
The tech spent a lot of time trying to fix it then finally told me it's basically a box they use for rv use. What??? There is a cable that runs from my surround sound that was connected to our old box but there's no way to connect it to the new box. There is a place to plug it into the tv so he suggested I get a new cable that is longer and he would come out and connect it and he thinks that will fix it, but I have my doubts because before it came from the surround box to the directv box, not the tv but I'm going to try that. The cable was cheap enough. If it doesn't work I'll be forced to go to the Genie. I guess genie is good but was trying to avoid it due to cost.
Everything worked fine with my old box plus it had a choice of watching HD or analog stations if the HD channel was messed up due to reception. No more. These boxes are junk. Good job directv forcing people to change to the genie which is more expensive. I like directv, but this isn't a very good way to keep customers loyal.

We live in the Highlands of Cedar City, Utah. We have learned over the past eight weeks that DirecTV does not provide technical support/service to mountain residents during the winter months. We have logged 12 calls to their service department over the past eight weeks after high winds affected our satellite signal reception. They do not have the capacity to serve customers who may live where it snows and have set and cancelled seven consecutive appointments for service. Their phone bank at customer service is trained to ignore the customer's complaints and repeat the same responses to technical difficulties. We have recorded phone calls with the same service rep wherein she confirms that even though they advertise to provide service/support, they actually do not have the capacity to provide this if there are winter weather conditions.
We started our claim for support in November, 2022 and it is now January, 2023 and we have been without signal service and refused any opportunities to speak with company officials in positions of greater authority and told that the best they could do was schedule an appointment to have their technicians come up in March after the winter weather. There are hundreds of residents in our Highlands and it is incredibly antiquated to accept that in 2023, a company the size and scope of DirecTV cannot provide the vehicles/equipment to support their customers who reside in the mountains. Most egregious, is the fact that in our customer agreement with them it states that they will be able to provide this service in a timely manner with no mention of a down period of four months during the winter. We are now going into our third month without signal service and DirecTV's best response to us it that they can help us in March. Wow!

The local phone company is going to phase out their current TV provider by 2023 and instead offer DirecTV as a streaming service. As we live in small town in a rural area the only choices for TV are DirecTv or the Dish Network and the only choices for internet service are the phone company or much more expensive and slower satellite internet.
The local phone company is offering DirecTV at $20 discount for the first year and a $10 discount the second for the DirecTV Ultimate Package. They will be charging $10 per TV box for the first year. The free standard DVR cloud storage is limited to 20 hours of recording, 10 episodes of any show and are only retained for 90 days. We would opt to pay another $10 a month for the so called "unlimited" cloud DVR service. This is not actually unlimited as programs are only retained for 9 months and no more than 30 episodes of any show can be recorded.
DirecTV's own website currently offers the Ultimate Package for a $20 discount for the first two months with no charge for the so called unlimited DVR cloud storage. Depending on your credit score they will charge you $10 per TV box for 12 months or $5 per TV box for 24 months. The total cost of the first year of the Ultimate Package with three TVs and unlimited DVR cloud storage would be $1499.98 through the phone company's DirecTV reseller program and $1579.88 directly from DirecTV, a savings of $80.
The second year both options would have the same cost of $1259.88. The third year would see the phone company's DirecTV reseller program charging $1379.88 versus $1259.88 directly from DirecTV, a loss of $120. During the first three years of buying DirecTV through the phone company instead of directly from DirecTV would cost $80 more. In the fourth year and beyond it would cost us $120 more to buy DirecTV through the phone company.
From repeatedly contacting DirecTV via their live chat and via phone conversations it is quite evident that they are compulsive liars who are willing to tell you anything in order to make a sale. I called them to ask how many channels you could record at the same time and they responded it was unlimited, but then later they said it was five. They said I would be able to record 5 channels at once and still have the ability for family members to watch three other channels on the household's three TVs, but I have no way of confirming that as they couldn't point to a webpage detailing that and they had previously lied.
I asked them for information on a package monthly price guarantee and they responded by saying that I should click the "See details" link on each package. Clicking this link brings up a popup window with various terms, none of which include a price guarantee. One rep told me there was 12 month price guarantee and another said there was a 24 month price guarantee. The only 12 month and 24 month guarantee in the "See details" link are how much they are going to charge you per month for the TV boxes - $10 for 12 months per box or $5 for 24 months per box. There is no package price guarantee.
Their terms of service clearly state they can raise their prices at any time. They just had a price increase in 2022 - $10 a month for the Ultimate package that I was looking at. A Google search produces other routine price increases. One rep said to expect a $5 or $10 raise every 1 or 2 years. Another rep said $5 to $15 annual raise. Another said the increase in price of $10 was not a monthly but a yearly charge - the rep continued to insist on this even after I pasted a link to a page with the 2022 price increase that clearly states it's a monthly price increase.
I made attempts to examine their channel guide so as to access the type of programming on each channel but that was of no use. If you currently are not a subscriber there is no filter in their guide to just show the channels in each package. The only way you can do this is to actually subscribe and use a filter to show the channels you are subscribing to. Instead non subscribers are expected to scroll through channels numbered from 1 to over 9000.
To evaluate their programming I print off a list of channels and assign a number to a channel based upon how much the channel will be viewed. Since their guide is not useable for non-subscribers. I needed to consult other websites for channels whose programming that I am not familiar with. A channel that I will never view gets a 0 - a good example would be any shopping channel.
Channels that would rarely be viewed get a 1. These might only be viewed briefly if I happen to being manually scanning the channels and there is literally nothing else on the other channels and I have no DVR recordings to watch. I'd gladly trade all these channels for just one decent one. Many of these repeat the same content - just how many channels do you need; for instance, that repeat reruns of the Family Guy, NCIS, Seinfeld and various other syndicated shows? Channels with occasional use get a 2; medium use get a 3 and heavy use get a 4. The Ultimate Package contains 144 channels as of this review. Some 74.99% of their channels is worthless garbage (0 & 1).

They also claim to carry local channels but that is not true. Each of the local network affiliates also operate one to five digital sub channels which DirecTV does not carry. For instance; the local FOX affiliate also operates the local MeTv affiliate and four other stations. They only provide 8 of the 21 local stations.

We were loyal customers to DirecTv for over 15 years. We were never late payment customers and always had more expensive upper-level packages. We kept our service thru a residence change and added to our already selected service package by now having a receiver in every room (6). After all this time, we built a new house and decided for our new location we would go with a different service provider and called to cancel although we were keeping the existing home for business clients to stay in when we had someone in town (very rarely). They explained that rather than suspend our service they could offer us a suspension of service for a small monthly fee so that when we had guest, we could turn it on and only be charged for that month.
A year down the road I received a bill for full price. When we called, they explained that for some reason it got turned back on and wasn't sure why, but it would be handled and turned back off if we wished. After another 9 months we received a bill for a month and a half or so of service. I called again and explained our situation and the customer support rep explained it was their fault and that it would be taken care of and as soon as equipment was received, they would cancel service and current bill.
At this time, I decided we would just cancel all together. We returned the equipment on time like asked of us. A month later they are asking for $400 plus because the service was turned back on (without us asking) and although there is no power to the residence and I originally wanted to cancel they still said they were legitimate charges, and I would have pay them. I don't understand how you can offer someone a service and then change everything about that agreement. My credit is great, and I don't believe I want to just dispute it and have that blemish but what are we to do?
Also, the rep told me on a recorded line that bill would be set to $0.00 just return the equipment. However, I returned the equipment and then was charged as well as had an attempt to collect a debt email sent! How is this ok? 15 years of service and loyalty to your company. I wanted to cancel, was offered a suspension of service and then charged. I am a business owner as well; I would be drug thru the mud if I had business practices like this. I spent over $40k with them over the time I was a customer with decent service. I feel as if this was punishment for leaving. I will always do my best to explain and educate my experience to as many people as I can about these business ethics.

I have been a DIRECTV customer for over 23 years. The last year has been a truly unpleasant experience and no one at this company cared. After several attempts to correct (they kept adding channels to my account 6 times and charging me for them) without my permission, I called to cancel my service. 23 year customer, great pay history and again they did not care that I was leaving. They did not even ask me why, just, "Ok it will be canceled."

My parents have had DIRECTV for over 5 years now after being priced out of local cable options and there's only one cable provider. God I wish they had Fios in their area. So they have DirecTV and we've had the same equipment since the first install. The main genie box is in the living room and it's been fine until 2 weeks ago the volume stops working. If the volume is not working on the DirecTV but it's working on the Roku that tells me, an IT person, something's wrong with the DirecTV box.
Cue calling DirecTV today. They can try to help me program the remote via new technology to use the camera of my phone to look at the TV, that's actually a great technological advancement. But our TV brand's not in the list. We have codes, the internet has found plenty of digital code numbers that will allow us to sync our TV with various universal remotes and cable services. DirecTV system doesn't give you the option to enter a code you must pick the name of the brand from the list. Our brand is not on the list. The person on the phone proceeds to tell me to pick a different brand, like okay that's not our brand but I'll try it. It automatically searches codes. There's only one code to try. It doesn't work. Then I give her my logical deduction previously mentioned, what if it's the box that's not working?
In order to send someone to the house to investigate the box and possibly replacement it's going to be $99 unless my parents' showing protection plan for 8.99 a month. How dare you charge paying customers to give them support. My parents pay you over $1,500 every year for your satellite service. Your equipment has obviously broken because nothing's happened to our TV. It's still working on other devices, the HDMI cable has not moved. Nothing has damaged it. Obviously the box is old and has failed. But how dare you suggest you're going to charge us to investigate it. I would happily crack the thing open if I was an authorized technician but I'm not.
So here we are shilling out $9 a month for a protection plan that we may never have to use again. This happened to my parents with Optimum Cable too, had to start paying for a protection plan if we wanted anyone to come out to the house or was going to be $100 each time. How dare you take advantage of people in these rural areas who can't just bring the box to you for support. And can you imagine the elderly people who just want to be able to channel surf throughout the day and now it's not working? They certainly can't navigate the menus and you're going to charge them $100 a pop to send someone to help? Shame on you. And you charge an arm and a leg for such a long list of channels that has no entertaining content. I'll be switching my parents to YouTube TV within the year.

Wife got offered a deal by a sales lady at Costco. We switched over everything - tv / internet/ and cell service. Since then, it has been an absolute nightmare. Just spent 67 minutes on the phone with a supervisor in Idaho (I'm in Fresno Calif) - at the end, nothing accomplished. I have to call back in the morning and schedule the 3rd tech service call to my house. I could type hundreds of words on what has happened - hours on the phone etc. After months and two tech home service calls, the system still does not work. Just please, take my advice and do not do business with DirecTV - they will lie to your face - you will be as sorry as I am if you do.

In early June of 2022, we had a lightning strike and lost a receiver in our main living room in which we watch most TV. The next appt was 10 days out. When we called we spent almost an hour on the phone with Tech support who agreed we needed a new receiver. When the tech (outsourced working for MasTech) arrived, he did not have a receiver and only check cables. After finding cables were fine, he advised, he didn't have a receiver and that we would have to make another service call. When I called, the next appt was a month out.
When the same tech came out a month later, he had the wrong receiver. When I asked, "How did you do that," he was VERY combative and said he did not do anything and that he was leaving. I literally begged him to stay, but he would not. So again, no receiver and no TV in our living room. When I called DTV to advise of what had happened and advise that I did not want that technician back to my home, I was advised that since he was a MasTec employee, they could not tell me who he was AND could not guarantee he would not be the tech to return even after I explained that I felt uncomfortable with this person coming into my home. Because of this, we cancelled our service after being a loyal customer of DTV for 20 years.
I spoke with MULTIPLE representatives including a manager named Will in the customer loyalty department at DTV and none could tell me that he would not return. We have since moved to Dish Network and the experience with their Tech associates and installation folks have been so different. The technician that came out was very invested in his employment and I could tell he was proud to work for Dish Network. This was the exact opposite of the experience we had with the MasTec (outsourced) employee that DTV sent.

This is by far the worst company in the country. Our government is sleeping. Anyone try calling their service department. All calls go to overseas Philippines. Their English is bad. It is at least 2 hours to get anywhere and then they will not answer anything. My internet is not working. I pay 250 dollars a month. So far I can't even find out why. This company should be shut down and CEO should be fired. The whole thing is horrible. Never seen anything like this in my life.
