I've been with DirecTV since 1997. They have grown into a very reliable company. Any problems that arise are handled quickly and efficiently. The only complaint I have is what the problem is with most things today is that it starts to get expensive.
Reviewed May 9, 2018
They are all pricey if you want any sort of service unless you settle for the basic package. My reception and picture is quite good except during t-storm or heavy snowfall. Like most other big companies you call to them will be routed out of the U.S. and can get rather frustrating due to a language problem.

Signal is awful on rainy days, windy days, every time it drizzles and sometimes even on sunny days. Also, customer service needs to learn English to be able to assist customers and they should have manners.

DirecTV delivers what they say you will get for a good price compared to Verizon which promises everything for less but charges you way more than they said it would costs. DirecTV costs remain the same as opposed to Verizon which raises the rate every month. DirecTV's customer service is top notch. The customer service representatives are respectful, patient, courteous and informative. They always resolve the issue or problem and don't charge you.

I feel that Directv & ATT are overcharging their customers with programming, maintenance, taxes. Also, longevity customer without contracts are being forced to renew their contract to replace old equipment. Directv technicians after replacing old equipment with new equipment and sneaking a new two year contract without your permission stating you have upgraded your service and programming.

They want you to sign up for a 2 year contract, prices are really good the 1st year but when you enter 2nd year the price doubles. I went from $61 a month the 1st year to $127 the 2nd year. I called them to see how much it would cost to buy my contract out, it was going to be $20 per month and I had 11 months left. When I told them I would buy out my contract and sign up with Dish, the rep said let her check to see what she could do. Come back with $77 a month. I have been with DirecTV for 12 years, and they will creep up the price if you don't watch. They had me paying $135 dollars a month until I had signed the new contract.

We had a list on our DIRECTV that we could go to and see ones we were unable to watch at the time they were showing. It worked great. Gave the dates when each were shown so we could watch in sequence. They have now changed, so it is all messed up and can't tell which one to watch first. Then if you don't have time to watch them in a few days they delete them. What a mess. Will be checking Dish and Comcast.

Had been with DirecTV since the beginning, 1997. As soon as AT&T took over things got bad. The fees increased but they continually dropped channels from our chosen package trying to force you to take a higher priced package thereby starting you on a new two year contract which if you dropped their service within that twice years they would charge you huge sums of money to get out of contract. Same situation with their equipment.
Called them because we were having trouble with the box we had from when they were still DirecTV only to be told the equipment needed to be updated. Fine. They sent a new box and we connected it which started a new two year contract. Then they started charging us for HD but we couldn't get any HD channels so we called them. They told us that they would have to either send out a technician and charge us at least $100 or we could have them send us a new box for a fee and new two year contract. So we called them back and told them we decided to go with Sling instead. I am still surprised they didn't make us pay shipping to send them their box back.

We signed up for DirecTV a year ago based on an offer for a mobile phone via AT&T. The service has never worked properly on any floor in our home other than where the main box is. We have basically been paying a monthly fee for nothing. I am trying to cancel as we had to replace with Xfinity. They are trying to charge a cancelation fee for canceling before the contract period. I am so frustrated with customer service protocol without common sense. We have paid $1100 for basically nothing.

Call DirecTV AT&T to get a second account at my summer home. They told me the address did not exist. Had a technician drive out to the summer home and clarified that the address does exist. Technician looked at his work order. Found out that they transferred equipment from my primary residence to my summer home. Told that was incorrect. Spent a total of 50 50 hours on the phone with them arguing to set up a second account. Still to this day I've been arguing with him for over 3 weeks straight day after day. I would never recommend this company. I will be contacting an attorney to sue them. I will also be contacting the Better Business Bureau. I would not ever recommend this company to anybody. Ask for a call back for an escalation. Still waiting 3 weeks for a callback.

Today my wife who was not on the account was denied a loan due to a past due amount from my account when I cut them off... That was actually less than the amount of their overcharges!! We tried talking with them on the phone... We tried messaging them... Was told by them it was all a big mistake. We would be refunded... never happen and overcharges continued. Kept track of all our messages and billing. They would not turn off the service!! We had no contract with them. We had the service. No kidding, for years always paid them on time every month!!... until this all happened. Literally had to pull the power on their equipment and get a new credit card and change our account number to keep them from stealing our money from our account!!!

Nope, didn't happen, I always watch National Geographic Wild, nope do not get it, after a promise I would from an AT&T representative. Also promised I could bundle internet, tv, and phone, Nope again. I have prepaid cell phone. Can't bundle that, and it took almost 3 months to get internet and tv bundled, and that was only after I turned in AT&T to the BBB. I accidentally double paid the $235 installation cost. It was downhill from there. They promised to refund but the next month they still had the money and deducted the next month's bill leaving $144. They then sent me a bill and a statement that said they had put the money back into my account. After watching my bank statement that month, I saw that that had not been done so I mentally deducted the next month out of the balance leaving $54.
Next month, I got another bill saying I was past due but my calculations say that they still had $54 so I sent a payment of $36. I then got another notice that they had sent my monies by Citibank money card. Guess what? Another lie. I kept getting past due notices monthly with late fees. The signal will go in and out (weak) or out altogether with NO compensation from the DirecTV. I know they know that the signal has gone out due to inclement weather. As long as DirecTV has been in business, they should have developed a solution to this consistent problem. NO apologies for them at all, just sit and wait until the storm blow by. Horrible service but that's DirecTV... At its best!!!

CAN I GIVE THEM NEGATIVE STARS? Beware AT&T bearing gifts; it'll result in your increased costs & reduced coverage over time! DO NOT BELIEVE THEM WHEN THEY INSIST THAT YOU MUST HAVE AT&T MODEM & WIRELESS to get DTV! Smart consumers know get one or the other - not both - unless you cannot get a signal. CHECK your invoice monthly! It will evolve from $29.99/mo to $90/mo very rapidly after 3 mo. Forget Customer Service - it's not service for anyone but them. Rarely can the customer escape even 1 bill without an increase of $10-100 or more. Invest in a small signal plug in & antenna for 1-time $20/tv for local stations & add Netflix &/or Hulu & get a modem & wireless or just stream from your smartphone, etc. It's more entertaining & you can watch endlessly without needing to "DVR". AT&T is really good at conning seniors & the technology unsavvy!

Unlike cable services when there is foul weather I lose my service. A rainstorm, snow. Snow in New England is a given but yet every time it snows I am left with a notice pasted across the screen with no service yet my neighbor who lives 75 feet from me has service. Also she pays far less than I do and gets more channels and she get preseason football for no extra charge. If I wanted to see preseason I would have to pay an added fee. Less service and more costs is what I am experiencing from Directv. To keep my business they need to lower the costs and give better service.

PSVUE was $78.99/mo with all the add-on options and tax. DirecTV I am paying (albeit through the promo 12 month period, and then I can re-up with a new contract so I don’t get charged double that) $64.99 with add-ons and taxes. It only seemed to go out when we didn’t have the monthly insurance. Coincidentally.
My Mother passed away, but DirecTV would not stop service and the dish was stuck in our garden and was now our responsibility to remove, after we continued to pay for 5 more months of service which we couldn’t use. The circuit boards are toxic to the environment and they are left everywhere by this irresponsible company. Fast forward to May 2018 and I am notified that I have a new collections account on my credit report so I check it out and it says it's DirecTV. So I file the dispute with the credit reporting agency and they come back and say, "It can't be removed because Directv says it's you and you owe $563.00." So I spend I good hour on the phone yesterday with every department possible and they all say, "Nope you owe us no money. On our end you're clean."
So as I am going through one depart to the next being told the same thing, one gal says, "Sir I have no idea why you're in collections with us and there is no # for me to give you," then she ask, "Do you maybe still have your old equipment?" I thought and replied, "Yes I do." I was never once told what to do with and during my move to my fiancée's house I boxed it up and put it in the garage. She said I should take the equipment to FedEx and drop off so they could ship it back to Directv and maybe that's why I am in collections. So I leave work early today, box up everything, go to FedEx only to be turned away because I do not have an account with Directv anymore. So here I am again stuck with no way to talk to anyone that can help me. I am told over and over that I don't owe them any money so it has to be the old equipment, but yet I can't return it.

I was a DirecTV customer in my past and was sent a promotion to come back. I decided I would try them again as their service was a little less than what I am currently paying. What a huge mistake. First, it took forever to set it up on the phone. They were having IT issues and my phone call was more than an hour and a half. Anyway, I set my installation date and confirmed everything electronically I was required to do.
The morning of my installation I even called them to confirm and provide details. I was told we were all set. My spouse was home waiting and I went to work for a brief meeting. When I arrived home at 1 pm they had not arrived yet. The installation time was 12-4. I called them again to confirm. Mind you, it takes more than 30 minutes to get someone on the phone any time you call. I spoke to Anna. She said they had notes. They tried to call me and when I didn't answer they decided I must not be home.
I did not realize that if I didn't answer their phone at the moment they called they would cancel my installation. I actually didn't even realize I missed their call. I think that would be something to really make sure customers understood, if you're simply not going to show for your appointment if the driver doesn't get you on your phone on route. I cannot believe that would be their policy. Every company now seems to send out a text message and simply ask you to confirm. That way you don't have to instantly be ready for a phone call and can respond in a reasonable time period. Sounds like a simple solution.
I told her that is was unacceptable as my spouse had taken the day off at work. It didn't seem realistic to me that they cancel my appointment if I don't answer in 5 rings, but they don't answer their phone in 30 minutes! She told me she would escalate my situation and get the installation team out there this afternoon. I was appreciative she was taking action to get my installation completed today but annoyed I was on the phone another hour. I carefully watched my phone continuously awaiting the installation team's arrival. At 3:55 I called back to inquire and spoke to Debbie. I wanted to find out where the installation team was. She told me that my install was canceled and although she saw the notes from Anna it was never rescheduled for today. So they don't actually set up the installation or call me to make me aware. I asked to talk to a Supervisor. She put me on hold and left me there for 30 minutes.
While waiting, I went to DirecTV Chat and asked for a Supervisor. They had Max call me. He told me he couldn't help. He told me he was transferring me to a Sales Supervisor. Omar answered and listened to my situation. Omar informed me he was not a Supervisor. I told him I would leave without making any complaints as long as they did two things for me. First, make sure I was not charged anything. After all I did not receive any services. Second, I thought with them canceling my appointment, my spouse taking the day off work, more than 5 hours on the phone, they could give us the $200 gift card as compensation for such lousy service.
He brought a Supervisor on the phone named Joseph. It is now he listened but did not offer much of apology or solutions for such poor service. He felt no obligation to do anything for me. In the end, they felt no obligation to do anything for me. I think customers should be warned Buyer Beware when it comes to DirecTV.

DIRECTV has horrible channel lineup. Would repeat channels over and over, channels you normally have no interest in. On demand was big with them. Their cable boxes were wireless and very slow to respond.
Reviewed May 2, 2018
The concept and service basically good, however, continual technical difficulties makes it aggravating (Software pixellation/Freezing issues on their end they said). Mostly are corrected.

I like the channel selection and it has all Christian channels. But would like On Demand a little cheaper. It is too expensive in which it adds up very quickly so don’t use it very often but would if cheaper.

When turned on the access was very slow until it settled on a station... Changing channels it goes through double movement before it stays on the station. Cox never had either issues.

DirecTV/AT&T has very high price packages, you try to lower the monthly charges and half of the channels go away. Pathetic. I would not recommend this company to anyone. If my area had access to cable I would certainly not be using DirecTV for my provider.

TV works fine. Problem is with the billing. We are supposed to have a contract with a set price but every month the bill increases a few dollars. They have sent a letter thanking us for doing business with them but warns that if we break the contract, there could be a charge of $240.00. But they break the contract every month. Went to AT&T physical location for help and have made several phone calls. Waiting to see if this solves the problem.

They make you buy all the channels no one wants to watch then charge more for separate groups of channels you do want to watch and call them premium. I do like DirecTV better than the others I have tried but they are all mostly the same and way too expensive.

I really enjoy DirecTV. It is about a 90% improvement over Cox. But my main concern is the cost. They have offers for new customers of $30 per month. It would be great if they would offer long-time customers paying a whole lot more a thank you discount to keep us from switching to a cheaper alternative, such as Hulu.

I feel the bill could be cheaper and customers that have been with the company with years should get better discounts instead of 5.00 here and there.

I like Directv but it’s very expensive; especially if you opt for premium channels. I like the NFL Sunday ticket but it’s pricey. But the service is good and the picture quality is excellent. The only downside is when it rains really heavy, you will lose your signal.

We attempted 5 times during two weeks to get DirecTV. First time, they sent the technician to the wrong address. Next 4 times, DirecTV kept screwing up the orders; we only wanted Direct TV with no internet. Their staff kept messing up the orders to include internet, when the technicians would show up, they would tell us the order had to be cancelled and re-ordered without internet??? We never ordered internet! They just kept rescheduling over and over. Any time we called to complain or check status, we'd be speaking to someone that seemed to be in another part of the world, we could hardly understand them.
We wasted hours and hours and the phone trying to resolve their mistakes only for them to send more technicians who had a completely different order than what we placed. We wanted DirecTV because we thought Comcast cost too much money, you know what? That money is worth every penny now that we've been through this nightmare with DirecTV... And this was just to try to get it hooked up. Terrible!

In general DirecTV has worked for us but over the last few months we've had a problem with the connection to the TV in our office. Contacted DirecTV and got hold of a very rude foreign accented woman who not only was confusing, but unhelpful. She actually said to hang up, turn the TV on and if the connection problem occurred to call back. She hadn't done anything to fix the problem so why turn it on and off and then call back and get another technician. As much as I hated Spectrum I told her they were more responsive than she and she immediately said, "I'll put you over to disconnect so you can go back to Spectrum." At that point I was fed up and asked to get a supervisor which I did and we have a technician coming over today. Just getting this off my chest as if I had a person working for me like this woman she'd be out the door immediately as she's not doing anything to help DirecTV's reputation.

Out of the blue, I get an email that says my DirecTV account is past due. I checked and found my monthly bill increased from below $125 to $177. I called and told them I never ordered or accepted any upgrades. They acted as though it was my fault for not noticing the change sooner. There are no words for the level of frustration these lying thieves have caused me. There is no alternative in my area... no cable company serves us here. I will cancel DirecTV and just deal with it. I NEVER watched any of the added programming because I had no idea it was even active on my account. That seemed not to make a difference to the “supervisor “ I spoke with.

First of all the service is horrible!! I have called and complained about it and they tell me I have to pay someone to come fix their crap that they installed at my home!!! I'm not paying someone to fix their ** because it's junk. My TV guide freezes and the sound quality sounds like a skipping CD. I even have videos of this happening on my phone. I called and told them I'm tired of their terrible service and I wanted out of contract free of charge.
They told me I would also receive local channels to where I live which was also a lie!! I receive St. Louis local channels and I live almost two hours away from St. Louis! It's not what I signed up for and I told them I would leave Dish Network if they could help me. They told me they would and lied. Now I'm stuck for two years unless I pay a large amount to cancel. Don't feel like I should have to pay anything!! The customer service sucks too!! Not happy at all and I don't think anyone should sign up with this **!! I have seen many complaints the same as mine and it's not right!!!

There were some initial screw-ups when I originally ordered my DirecTV package (back in the dark ages in 1998) involving reneging on promises made by one of their Customer Service Reps but once that kerfuffle was resolved (but not in my favor, sadly), the service has been reliable and easy to master. It works as advertised and service is rarely interrupted. They are patient when the occasional service glitches occur and will walk me through a variety of possible fixes for as long as needed.
