I was watching ABC channel 6 news last night, and There was a story about bogus bills from Directv. I'm a Victim of a similar situation -- back in 2003 I purchased DirecTV and everything was fine till I got my second bill. I opened up the bill and the bill stated I own $708. I immediately contacted customer service about this bill and they informed me that I was ordering ** movies. I was angry and upset and told them that this must be some kind of mistake. I informed them that they need to send a tech out to check my line or connection and they refuse. The following month I receive my third bill and this time there was an additional $300 bringing my balance to $1008.00. At this point I had to do something.

I contacted Directv again to complain and customer service rep informed me that someone had ordered more ** movies as we were speaking. I told them that I was the only one in the house and I had just come in from working at night -- how could this be? They told me that the ordering was coming from my house and there was nothing they could do. I asked them what channels were they coming from and I went to those channels and there was nothing there.

I was angry and wanted to speak with the manager. He also inform me that he could not do anything. I wrote a certified letter to the president of the company and I got no response. THIS HAS AFFECTED MY CREDIT. It has now gone to a collection agency now for about 3yrs. I believe that someone on the inside of Directv had my account info and was using my account information.

After many problems with my DIRECTV and missing programs due to my DVR not working properly, I tried getting restitution with Customer service for missed programming for which I was expected to pay. The customer service reps I talked to were aggressive and unhelpful so I finally decided to cancel the service out of disgust. I cancelled the end of February before new month charges were due. Not only did they not cancel the service, but charged my credit card for another month of service $93 (I had switched to COMCAST on 2/8/2006!).

After calling them, they agreed they made a mistake and would refund the money but it would take 6-8 weeks for me to receive my refund. Why do I have to wait 6-8 weeks for money they shouldn't have taken anyway!?!?!?! It took 5 minutes to get the money from my credit card, why can’t they just credit it back? After again several unsatisfactory conversations with their customer service dept, they said that's the way it is and nothing could be done. IS this legal? What scam artists!!!!! Mutliply this by several 1000 people and they have quite a bit of extra money in their coffers to earn interest on, interesting no? I will never deal with DIRECTV again! Let’s see if I get my refund…

($100 rebate for DVR, suppose to be refunded in 4-6 weeks, it's been 6 months...I just got a letter saying my DVR was not entitled for a rebate. I called and they said there was a "problem" resubmit the rebate and it will be all set...they send me to "www.directv.com/rebates" to get a new rebate form....the web page does NOT exist!

The deceptive and improper practice of the non-disclosure of 2-Year commitment requirement for adding an additional equipment for existing customers. I recently added a new DirecTV equipment that I purchased at Best Buys for $200. Neither Best Buy nor the DirecTV CSR disclosed this very important information when I activated the DirecTV receiver (H20) on February 21, 2006. I paid full price for this equipment and did not receive any rebate or promo or signed any contract commitment. I just added one additional DirecTV receiver. If I would have known about the 2-Year commitment upfront, I would have NEVER bought and added this equipment. This selling practice is deceptive, improper and should be against the law.

I cancelled my service in February 2006 after about 3 years of being a good customer. I have received a final bill of $24.89 after being told I had a refund coming of the same amount. I just called customer service to enquire about this and DirecTV told me that my balance is now $161.89. There explanation was that back in December I order DVR which I did but I cancelled it within a week (according to them) within the appropriate amount of time. I never received the equipment or anything. So now it seems that I'm being penalized for cancelling the entire service. I don't think this is fair. I do not owe them anything. The will not let me talk to anyone that can help me with this. All they say is that I have to pay the bill.

After 8 years of being a satisfied Directv client, I ordered a new DVR system with service when I moved into my new house in August. I was told that it was $99 but because there was a rebate on that, it would cost me nothing once I turned in my rebate form. That sold me. I asked the installer for a form and he said that he knew nothing about the rebate program and told me to call DirecTV. I did and was told that they would send me a form in 2-3 weeks. In 3 weeks, my new DVR was not working and I called to ask for a replacement. They sent one no problem.

I asked again to receive a rebate form, which I was still waiting for. They said download it from their web site...which I tried to do without succeess. I called them back and they told me 2-3 weeks again. A couple of weeks later, I finally received the form in the mail and sent it back the same day with all pertinent info and receipts to the address listed on the form. I forgot about it until Christmas when I lost signal due to wind problems and then for no reason. I called back and asked where my rebate of $100 was and they said they would alert the supervisor and would get back to me within a couple of days.

They couldn't figure out why I hadn't received the rebate. Three weeks later, I called them again since I had never heard anything from them. After a 20 minute hold time to talk to a "supervisor" (what great customer service) Kelly, then Grace then supervisor John all told me that they were waiting on my rebate form before processing the check. I explained that I had sent it. That I have called repeatedly on this matter never getting any customer service except to say that I was at fault. (They acknowledged that)...and John insisted that there is nothing to be done until I send a rebate form again...and they'd be happy to send one to me 2-3 weeks from now...6 months after original installation.

To say the least, I blew a gasket...especially since they just sit there reading from a script that says, "I apologize for your inconveinience and understand your frustration but we can do nothing until you send us your form." (Repeated more than 10 times during our conversation)... They are awesome at returning the problem to the customer by repeting brain-dead "interaction" with their clients. I asked why it takes 2-3 weeks for mail to be sent within the US...were they even in the US?...all CS reps had heavy accents with very American made-up names...which lead me to believe they may be outside of the US. John said they were in the US and it takes that long to process rebate forms...which I don't buy!

I asked if they could submit the form in good faith to satisfy a loyal customer, he said no...I had to do it again! They have every phone call, every complaint that I have made, documented but it is still my problem. I guarantee if I was the one owing $100, they would take immediate action. 6 months is long enough. Tomorrow I'm supposed to hear from John's supervisor, William. I'm guessing he will have a similar script so thet he doesn't give away the location of his call center too. After 6 months of waiting for rebate that is supposed to be in hand within a couple of months, there must be something that I can do.

The ad read, You pay $148.00 for the unit installed and directv will send you a rebate for $100.00, thus your final cost will be $49.00. The unit was installed at my home on Oct 21 2005. I have yet to recieve the rebate. I have called and was told they would mail the rebate form 2 weeks ago and have E_mailed them 3 times.

They also sent me a bill which I paid on Oct 21st 2005 that included $99.00 for the unit, $14.95 handling and delivery fee plus 49.00 instalation plus tax totaling $177.01. I believe this is deceptive advertising, and is unfair to hold my money for almost 3 months.

My credit card statement came with a much larger bill for directv than it should have so I call customer service. Since their phone system doesn't actually have an option to get a person I pressed 0 after putting in all the required information like my phone number. The charge was for the NFL package which we did not order. They tried to tell me that we had never cancelled it after the intro package a year ago which included it. This isn't true. I know this because I cancelled it and verified at the time exactly which packages we wanted to have on our account.

Also I remembered a couple of months back we got a phone call from a directv representative pushing the NFL package, my husband was on the phone, and he was very clear that we did not want it. The customer service rep the first time I called in (I got disconnected) was trying to be adamant that since the season had started we were stuck with it, but that call got dropped and I had to call back. The second guy started down that path and I told him that they had better remove those charges, that we did not order, had never wanted it, had cancelled it after the intro package and he had better get his manager.

He put me on hold and came back saying that they were removing it from our account and that my credit card will be credited. I verified the amount I should expect back on my credit card and the amount that my directv bill should be from here on out and now I just have to watch my credit card statements more closely to make sure the follow through. I told my husband he is lucky to still have his History channel tonight because if they had given me any more argument than they did I would have cancelled it. If they do not follow through I will cancel and file complaints with my credit card company, the bbb and anyone else I can find.

I started subscribing to Directv in 1997 and discontinued the service in September 2005. I signed an agreement in 1997 that I would 1. Activate the receiver within 30 days. And 2. Keep the service for 2 years. I fullfilled both obligations.

In August of 2005 I had to activate another reciever because of one going bad. The CSR told me that I would again have to commit for 2 years of service and I told her I would NOT commit as I had to replace a defective receiver that Directv knew was defective from the manufacture and no fix or repair was offered. I further stated that I had fullfilled my contractual obligation and would, under no circumstances, enroll in another obligation. They sent me a statement showing a final bill of -1.54 (credit). Now a month later I receive a bill for $289.00 for "early cancellation". I never agreed to another 2 year contract. But I will send them the defective receivers they endorsed.

In mid October I had a Directv receiver fail. I was given the option to purchase the replacement from Directv with 2 options, one with a 2 year commitment and one with out. I purchased a replacement from a local vendor at full retail. Upon activation of the replacement receiver at the end of the call I was informed that I had to commit to Directv service for 1 year. I asked why and they told me that since I purchased a new receiver that I had to commit. I asked what I was getting out of this commitment and I was told that I was getting a discount on the equipment. In informed them that I paid full retail for the receiver and I was told that that was Directv's policy. At no time was I informed of any commitment prior to the purchase of the new receiver. In fact even Directv offered receivers with and without commitments. Today I got a bill from Directv which shows a 2 year commitment.

If I decide not to continue my service within the 2 year commitment I will have to pay $300.00

I ahve been a DIRECTV customer since 1990. I recently received another bill for service that was not mine. I tried to resolve this with Customer Service but was unsuccessful. I was told to fill out paper work for a fraud claim. I was requested to provide a police report, notarized form, bills showing my residence address. All this to clear a $113 bill (that wasn't mine). I don't have time to comply with these requests for a mere $113.

I asked to speak to a supervisor on several occasions, and I was put on hold for over 20 minutes. I asked for a supervisor to call me and was told I could expect a call in 2 days, I never received the call. I made it clear to the customer service people I spoke to that if I end up paying this bill for service that was not mine I would cancel my existing service that I have been faithfully paying on. In fact, I may have been one of your first Direct TV customers back in 1990. I paid $800 for my first system, installed it myself.

I have probably referred 15 customers to Direct TV over the years. But, now it come down to this, $113 bill that I expected to easily get resolved with one phone call to Customer Service, will result in loosing me as a customer. If they would allow thier Customer Service people to just use common sense when analyzing this situation, that it makes no sense for me to set up service under another account when I can add another receiver to my existing service for only $4.99/month. But, I felt I was forced to pay this bill, in an effort, to keep my credit in good standing. I consider this extortion. My only recourse is to cancel my service and I intend to do that when I complete my evaluation of my other options.

On our August bill, charges for pay per view ** movies from February and March 2005 appeared. We did not order these movies. Called customer service rep who told me repeatedly that there is NO way possible these movies weren't ordered from my home. She told me my husband must have ordered them without me knowing and made me lock him out of the system w/ a password so he can't order movies. Caused great personal distress and marital strife in my new marriage!! My husband adamantly denied ordering the **. Turns out, after checking, he was out of town on some of the dates and could NOT possibly have ordered them and I didn't so IT DIDN'T happen--regardless of Directv's lies. I find it horrendous that they lie and tell you this can't happen, causing untold problems in people's families, when it can and DOES happen.

Who can stop them?? We are canceling our account because I have no real assurances it won't happen again; plus, they handled it very poorly. Someone needs to sue these people and fix this problem! I am an attorney myself, so I plan to try to write the FCC or whomever else may regulate them. I was a customer of DirecTV for 9 years prior to this too!! NO ** had ever been ordered from my home til this hacking, or whatever it is, occurred. Directv told me my husband was lying and we were just trying to get out of paying our bill!! What a crock...Someone really needs to stop them and their lies. The disputed charges of $42 were taken off our account & this time only. The problem caused severe emotional distress to both adults in the home!

I was curious as to why my monthly bill went from $66 to $112 in April so I took a look at my statement online. Much to my surprise I had been charged for four ** channels. The charges were from November and January and were definitely not mine. First of all, my husband and I do not watch **, secondly they were being ordered at very strange times, 2am, 6am, noon. We were either fast asleep or not even home when these charges took place. Thirdly, our puppy chewed into the phone line so we couldn't even order movies for a while without having to call DirecTV directly. And lastly, when we saw that these movies were listed on our "past purchases" we just ignored them thinking it was a sales gimmick. But to be on the safe side we set the spending limit to $5, just in case a visitor tried to order something. Amazingly enough, they were still ordered.

So I called DirecTV (as did my husband) and got absolutely nowhere. The rep suggested that it was my husband who ordered the movies. I can't even believe she would say something like that. After I explained about the phone line and the times, she still said we were responsible for these charges and there was nothing they could do. The movies had to have been ordered from within my house. This is ridiculous! I plan on calling back again this evening and escalating to the top. Then I will take it to the next step possible. This is also happening to two other people I know and I am currently trying to find others that are having these problems.

The economic damage is I am being charged for something I did not purchase. And I am being refused a refund. Our charge currently comes straight out of our checking account and there is not a way to stop this auto payment on the DirecTV site. So now I need to go to my bank to fill out a form to stop the charge. (emailing DirecTV got me nowhere). It is also highly unprofessional for a phone rep to speak to me in the manner this person did and to accuse my husband of something. Her main priority should be making the customer happy not accusing them of things.

I am at a loss as to how and why they keep getting away with this. Either there is a huge breach in the remote system that they are unaware of they are totally aware of what is going on.

I am a customer service rep for DTV. I hear day in and day complaints about customers stating "I NEVER ordered these adult pay-per-views..." Oh! Please!! Our sytems let us know what access card the order was purchased, what time, and how (called in, remote, using automated system, etc) ordered. If ordered with the remote, all the information for PPVs is saved onto the customer's own access card.

Nobody but the customer has access to the cards and who orders what on the receiver. The orders are saved onto the card's memory until it is downloaded onto DTv's systems using the reciever's modem.

My question is why do people call in disputing ONLY ADULT pay per view's stating "this is a Christian home" and "we go to church everyday," or "we weren't home at that time." Somebody in that household ordered the movie, and the customer is responsible for all charges. Like I stated previously, the orders are saved onto the memory of the access card. The cust can also look at the "past purchases" on their main menu to look at all the ppvs charged on that reciever. That screen only shows PPVs ordered with the remote control in that home, on that reciever, on that access card -- no one else's.
Please Post. Hopefully, this helps everyone out and minimizes confusion. Maybe it was a son or daughter, or maybe the wife's nephew's neighbor. When charges for adult ppvs come up on the dtv bill, someone in that household DID order the movies. Thank you.

Not so fast there, Jonathan. It's not that easy to get the last word here.

We have been a Directv customer since they began. You could not buy them in a store and it cost us about $2000. And we have been happy with them until now. On Oct. 23 at 1:00 a.m. my husband jumped out of bed and said he smelled something burning, it was our Directv receiver, it was smoking and sparks were flying out of it.
We unplugged it and took it outside. My husband called Directv and they told him it would cost $25 for them to send us a receiver. We decided to go to the store to buy one because we wanted to make sure we got a RCA. At one store you had to buy a certificate and then call Directv for them to ship it to you. At another store you could buy the whole system if you were a new customer for $25 and get a rebate for $25. But because we were not a new cutomer we had to spend $141 for a receiver.

You would think that because we have been with them for at leaset 6 or 7 years that they would try their best to make us happy without being without our TV for a week. And without making us spend $141 for something that should not have happened. Things could have been worse, our home could have burn down and we could have been asleep.

On July 9, 2002 we purchased a new home. DirecTV offered a movers program that they will come and connect, at a small fee. So the Satellite company came and put a dish on the roof, and drilled into the bedroom for a second receiver. The installers who came the first time (Bluegrass Satellite), drilled right into my closet door, causing damage. Then to contact Directv for them to put you on eternal hold, switched over and over to different people was unbearable. To finally get someone for them to tell you to take pictures, get three estimates from licensed contractors for the same. No contractor wants to come to a home just to see a hole in a closet door. So I called Directv back several times, they finally sent a supervisor who came and saw the damage, and unfortunately he said we have to do the same!

Now, almost two months have passed. Every time it rained a little we lost reception to the Directv, so again, I call Directv to be switched around all over, I have several employee's names and employee numbers, to get them to send someone out to fix the problem, they tried to charge us $70.00 just to send someone to fix the problem, even though they have a 90 day warranty for the same, which is in writing! So they finally a week later send another contractor to fix the satellite dish, this man came to my home very irritated as soon as he came to the door. So I showed him where the dish was, and he then took his ladder and slammed it onto my home, damaging the gutter. He then went on the roof and pulled the dish right out from where it was originally installed. He left the holes where he ripped out the dish and made more holes to put the dish on a different angle, then to come down from the roof and say, "sorry I can't get reception, this should of never been installed in the first place".

So he left us on a Friday Sept. 6th with no reception at ALL! I called Directv several times over the weekend, no one could give me a straight answer, once again to be put on hold, transferred to several different people. Then spoke to a direcTV sales person whom then told me that the company that came to my home (Advanced Technology) that Directv owed his company over $60,000.00 and that was why he came with an attitude to my home. I explained to the rep. this has nothing to do with my situation, that is between your company and his. I spoke to a supervisor at directv, and they told me someone would come out on Sept. 12th was the earliest, between 1-4pm. I took the day off work, to wait it was 3:00 I called just to make sure that someone was coming, and the person at Directv told me no one was coming. They didn't even give me a courtesy call to tell me the same!

I was very upset by this time. So, I called Comcast digital cable and they came the very next day to install my cable tv.

After numerous phone calls and a visit from a tech who confirmed that the receivers were both defective, I called DirecTV and explained that I'd received a bill and would not pay since I had no service. It has now been almost 9 months since that and they have continued to bill me and, have now turned the account over to a collection agency (Allied Interstate West, Inc., P.O. I then sent letters to the local BBB, State Attorney General, DirecTV, Channel 2, Los Angeles Consumer Affairs Dept., and to Allied Interstate West explaining the inaccuracy and how I've tried to get this to stop. I received a second letter from Allied and when I called for Jennifer Lord whose name appears on the letter was "helped" by Jo. She said Jennifer was in a meeting and when I explained the situation she asked if I'd sent the letters certified. When she found out I hadn't, she said they could not be held liable.

I mentioned how the others had all received, and acknowledged, my letters and she interrupted in a very rude manner and would not let me speak so I hung up on her. I called back and spoke w/Julie. I asked to be put in touch w/a manager and she refused when I would not give her my name and number. At this point I am totally at a loss as to what I can do (short of hiring an attorney which I cannot afford).

Although I have not paid anything (fortunately I had put the charges on my credit card and have since contacted them) I have to deal with these collection agency letters and the ignorant mentality of people I try to deal with when explaining the situation. They will not listen nor can they be reasoned with. When I see these letters coming in it gives me a headache and I dread opening them.

We signed up for their affiliate program, put their link on our website. We have about 6 people signed up and actually using their DSL service for more than a month now. So far we have not received any commission that they stated on the contract we signed up! Plus their service is really poor and another complaint is that the customers signed up for the $49.95/mo and they were being charged $70.00/mo.

we just happened to get three of these customers angry with us for recommending DirecTV DSL and the service is really poor. I called direcTV and complained about these and all they can say is, "Do you want me to disconnect your service?" What a nice way to talk to the customer.

Directv has a new lease program so I ordered it, when I talked to the sales person I asked him if I had to make up my mind on a 3rd receiver then and he told me I didn't that I could let the technician when he came to install the system, but he didn't have any extra ones with him.

When he called to activate the system I talked to someone about the 3rd receiver and she couldn't help me so I was transfered to someone else who couldn't help me either. Anyway after over 3 hours on the phone I finally got a supervisor and she said it would cost me $100.00 to have it installed and I told her the sales person didn't tell me it would cost me anything to have it put in. He also said I wouldn't have to have a phone line hooked up the the receiver, then I find out that I had no choice, I had to have a phone line plugged into the receiver and my phone jack is too far from the TV that I have to buy a wireless jack which is no big thing but I don't like to be told something and find out different.

I was so upset from being on the phone for over 3 hours I told her I was going to report this to Consumer Report. She said she would only charge me $50.00 instead of the $100.00 and I said that if her sales person would have given me the right information it wouldn't have cost me anything. A couple of people I talked to said I misunderstood what I was told or the sales person misunderstood me.

5-25-01, contacted Directv because receiver was not working, an assessment was conducted by technical support and expanded technical support; an appointment was made for 05-29-01 for a technician to come to my home.

05-29-01 Technician arrived at 10:30 am, he conducted an assessment which included direction of satelite outside and outside wiring, he stated that he would need to change the receiver, he began the process and then determined that the problem was with the wiring inside, so he did not change the receiver but replaced the receiver that was I had and fixed the wiring.
On returning home that evening and turning on the equipment, I discovered that I was unable to access the channels that I am paying for, for example, HBO, ESPN etc. Contacted customer service at Directv at 8:46 pm, was hung up on, placed on hold, told that there was nothing that could be done for me etc. Finally, at 10:40 pm, I was able to speak with Dave in Home Service/Expanded support, an appointment was made for Thursday 05-31-01 for technician to come to my home.
I requested to be contacted via telephone for a confirmation from the local office, DIRECTV DOES NOT HAVE A LOCAL PHONE NUMBER FOR THEIR SUBCONTRACTORS OR TECHNICIANS THAT PROVICE SERVICE. I left all my phone numbers for someone to contact me.
05-31-01 I left work at 11:30 am, arrived home at 12:09 pm, I waited for the technician to contact me or even show up to my home; at 5:46 pm a gentleman by the name of Umberto contacted me and stated that the technician assigned would not be coming to my home because he is in Miami Beach. In the interim, I made telephone calls to Directv at the following times: 8:35 am, 8:37 am, 1:29 pm, 1:39 pm, 2:15 pm, 4:05 pm, 5:30 pm, 5:33 pm, 5:50 pm, 5:57 pm, 5:57 pm, 6:42 pm. These calls were subject to disconnections, customer service and technician representatives who could not help me or stated that I would need to make another appointment.

I believe that Directv's slogan "the goal is personalized service" is false advertisement, how can I get personalized service when: 1. They cannot provide a technician to conduct service at a time convenient to me when I have sat home waiting on one who did not show or have the decency to contact me personally but had someone to. 2. What compensation can Directv provide to me for missing work?

Through an advertisement, I called Direct TV for an order of a satellite and two receivers, with the understanding that the installation was free. After much deliberation, it was confirmed that I would not be assessed the COD charge for installation and the company would waive the COD charge. In addition, I was to receive a rebate of $125 for the two receivers.

After talking to two representatives for installation, I was still going to be charged the $200 installation fee, which was supposed to be waived. In addition, installation only took place on Tuesday and Fridays. This information was not revealed at the time of the purchase. Direct TV has charged me the fee for the Dish and receivers, but are "jacking me around" on the installation process. Because of their continuous delays and unprofessionalism, I want to return the whole package to them and have them pay for the postage. I am tired of being "put on hold" by this company; it has been over two weeks and the work detail has not been completed. With the advance age of computers, one would think that these people could correct the work orders and get everything straight, rather than placing the burden on the consumer.
