I had my windshield replaced due to a crack. I dropped the truck off early and asked if I would be able to pick the truck up later if I went out of town, if not I wouldn’t go out of town. I was assured I could get my vehicle. I come back to it being locked up. Now I can’t get it for the weekend, work 12 hour shifts which start before they open and end after they close. I got it worked on during a day off. Now how do I get to work? Liars, hypocrites!
A "system glitch" informed me my visit would be $0. I was called before my appointment "because the technician couldn't show." I was more than happy to reschedule. I was then sent an email which I thought was just conformation the time had change. APPARENTLY, they used this email to also write in they would be increasing my price to $260. They also added a COVID fee of $10 we were unaware of. As many are feeling right now, extra money is not really in our pockets. We were not aware what the price was to be until after the service was performed. It seems as though someone did realize the "system glitch" and tried to pull one over us. After several frustrating phone calls with Safelite and Progressive, I have lost contact with safelite. I will be posting this wherever I can and telling whomever I can about this awful, screwing experience I received.
Had my windshield replaced by Safelite and the rearview mirror immediately fell off. Customer service first suggested that I must have pulled it off (?) and then told me that the tech would not come out to fix it, but that I could go in to a storefront to have it fixed. They would not allow me to make an appointment, but assured me I wouldn’t have to wait. I ended up waiting three hours and then the rearview mirror fell off while I was driving home. They still would not send a tech to repair or allow me to make an appointment, so I had to go back to the shop and wait another 2 hours. These people are a waste of time and money. Go literally anywhere else!
Made appointment over phone, verbal quote, 10 day wait before scheduled date. Never got it in writing. On day of appt I got a confirm for time 12-5 pm, confirming action, year and model of car. After ringing bell Safelite installer asks me what is he there for! I reminded him of confirm. he calls office then throws out a quote 3x over what I had verbally been given. Terminated further discussion, ordered windshield on line, will install it myself. also, they never gave the $35 off after peppering me with emails. My buddy went thru similar, except they never even showed up! Twice. Use a local shop that actually cares! I gave one star because it's required.
Booking the appointment to fix a small chip in my windshield was easy enough. Jokes on me though as my $160 chip repair turned into an entire windshield replacement thanks to this nonchalant “technician” cracking my entire windshield. Now I’m 5 phone calls, an insurance claim, 3 glass shop phone calls and a “recalibration” appointment deep. Costing over $500 during our pandemic. To add insult to the literally injury this guy cussed, he could not have cared less. Seemed to be business as usual for Safelite. I would never go anywhere near this company again and if you choose to... good luck to you, your car and your money.
While attempting to repair a small chip from hail, Safelite caused a 3-4 inch crack in my windshield. I know this can happen, as glass is unpredictable. But the tech assured me over and over that the crack was sealed and safe. With a day, the crack had grown 3 more inches. Within a week, it was over a 12 inches. And they will do nothing about it except credit the cost of the botched repair itself back to my insurance. They take no responsibility for the damage itself and I am left with a cracked windshield that cannot be repaired, only replaced. I would have been MUCH better off never utilizing their services.

I made an appointment for a windshield repair on Thursday at 8:00am, had to wait until the next day, Friday, at 1:00pm for the repairman to show up only for him to inform me he came with the wrong windshield for me car, regardless of them having the specifications for my vehicle. Then the repairman tells me I have to wait until Monday? It is a major inconvenience to someone to have to put up with that when they thought it was gonna be taken care of. Unacceptable, as a professional business they must be able to right these wrongs to satisfy the customer. A larger inconvenience is not the answer!
Prepaid an Appointment with Safelite to come to me to replace the Windshield in my Truck. Advised them that I had rust around the frame. Ended up having to come into the local shop to have them look at my truck. There was a small amount of rust once they removed the Windshield but nothing that look too bad. The manager refused to install the new windshield even though I agreed the warranty would be void because of the rust. They did however install my old windshield back in my Truck and let me drive it away. Then they took forever to refund my money for the non-visit. I ended up getting the windshield replaced for 1/2 the cost of Safelite at a local shop. WILL NEVER USE THIS COMPANY AGAIN!
I called Safelite to ask if they replace rear sliding windshields. The phone representative said yes and took down my information. I didnt want to take it to the dealer because of price. I was happy to find out they do replace rear sliders. The lady gave me a price of 315.00. Perfect! That's a good price! I told her! Are you sure? It's the whole rear slider that is leaking and I just want a new one. She said yes and I was scheduled at work. Service was 8am to 10am. The driver called and said I'm his 4th stop.
He finally showed up at my work at noon. The driver jumps out and has a slider insert piece. Not the whole slider. I told him that I was very specific in details. After his 30 minute drive, the driver calls his dispatcher and says! "It's the whole glass!" The dispatcher starts yelling on the phone and I can hear him call me an idiot! I said no! Your rep needs training. So the driver gets into his truck to leave. I have to stop him and say! Are you going to order the right glass or is someone going to call me about this? He says yes and drives off. Nobody called back. Dropped me like a hot rock! It was so unprofessional. All of it.
I highly recommend taking photos of your car before any work begins. I recently had my windshield replaced and during the process they significantly scratched the paint off the frame around the windshield. I will preface this complaint with the knowledge that there is currently a recall on my particular paint due to flaking and ultimately that is likely the cause of the paint to flake off, however it’s the highly unprofessional responses and handling of the situation that infuriates me. At the time of the replacement, there was no indication of any flaking paint. The installer came and left and never mentioned anything to me about the paint coming off. I noticed the scratches hours later so I took pictures and submitted them for a claim. Safelite sent someone out to review and take pictures of the damage a few days later.
Shortly thereafter I received a call from the Worcester manager Allen telling me that he reviewed the timestamped photos and that the damage was there before the work started. I argued that there was no possible way it was like that before so he emailed me some pictures. When I looked at the pictures I knew that they were the ones taken that morning because the car was parked in a totally different location (so much for the time stamp). I responded that the photos were taken that day and he claimed to have mistakenly attached the wrong ones and would send over the correct ones.
I did receive another photo that I was told was taken “previously to the install.” I could tell it was taken on the day of the install but it was clearly cropped and was oddly close to the damage. I took a closer look at the picture and realized that there was no windshield in the picture, which I’m sure is why it was cropped so close. The photo was taken after the old windshield was removed but “previously to the install” of the new one.
I couldn’t believe how manipulative and deceptive Allen was being! I called him out on this deception and his only response was that it’s a known issue with the paint and to deal with Toyota since “there is no damage due to the install.” If he had just been upfront with me and acknowledged that the paint flaked off during the removal process due to a known issue with the paint I wouldn’t have had any problem. Instead he lied and tried to deceive me to remove any fault from Safelite. I’m disgusted with how I was treated and I will NEVER use Safelite again.
I recently paid over $450 for a windshield for my daughter. The service person missed the appointment twice, on the third appointment informed her that the service could not be made. I still have not received my money back.
Has my windshield replaced, the trim is not where it should be and it was a bad installation. But my real problem is with the technician who flirted with my wife while I was not home making her feel at risk. If and when satellite returns my call I will bring it to their attention but I will not use them again.
I have not had windshield wipers since January and it is now May due to a faulty installation by Safelite. My car is a Mercedes and the company knowingly installed the incorrect windshield. They have scheduled repairs and then not shown up on appointed dates and not called or even showed concern that no one showed. For five months they have said that they cannot get a part when a Mercedes dealer is one mile from the local shop. I would recommend anyone but this company.
Small chip turns into 2 inch crack. Safelite Glass time frame 8-12. No call from repairman. I had to call safe lite to find out if he was coming. He finally shows up at 1:45 and he makes my windshield worse. Unbelievable then tells me I can just get a new one and use my insurance. I didn’t plan on getting a new windshield. I’ve gotten my windshield fixed before on other cars and I just really can’t believe that I let this company touch my vehicle. Never again I would not recommend this company. The worst job I’ve ever seen. Thanks for nothing especially during this terrible time. Called office and they pretty much said the same thing talking about my deductible and my insurance company. Terrible employees. Terrible service. DON’T USE SAFE LITE GLASS
Respectful and friendly. Fast and did a great job. You couldn't ask or find greater service. They came to my house to do the repair even during the coronavirus 19 pandemic. He even wiped down my dash and windows.
Tyler was professional, experienced and very careful during a virus crisis in our country. The replaced windshield was just what we had hoped for. I would recommend Safelite and Tyler to anyone. During a time when service is not what it was when I was young I was impressed.
The Safelite Lie: Trust this sorry company at your peril. If you have watched an hour of cable TV, you know Pascal, the friendly Safelite technician. You know the ad: Two friends on a road trip come back to their car to find their windshield cracked. No problem. They call Safelite and Pascal is out in a jiffy and fixes it on the spot while ‘’the girls’’ enjoy lunch. And, in a happy ending, there’s no charge either, with most insurance. ‘’Safelite repair, Safelite replace,’’ the cheery jingle concludes. You’ve heard it dozens of times. Now I’ve never met Pascal, but let me tell you about my experience with the corporate giant called Safelite, which bills itself as the nation’s ‘’leading’’ vehicle glass replacement company.
At about 2 a.m. on Tuesday, March 3, my car window was smashed on the street near my home in downtown Charleston, S.C. Some knucklehead broke the back passenger window, thinking he had found a prize. Instead, he made off with my wife’s pottery bag, of value to no one but her. I found the bag and the broken pottery a half block away when the sun came up. Not fun but stuff happens.
Enter Safelite. I called my insurer — State Farm — and the agent strongly recommended Safelite. He said he would have a Safelite representative call me. Sure enough, I quickly got a call from a friendly Safelite saleswoman who said the company couldn’t fix my car on the spot like Pascal does, but they could have it repaired by Thursday, or Friday at the latest. In the meantime, I could take it to a Safelite shop where they would install a temporary plastic covering over the smashed rear window. So I drove to Safelite’s store in Mt. Pleasant a few miles from my home.
Then the games began. Friday morning came and it couldn’t be done because the window was not in stock, but it could be done Monday. The Safelite employee apologized. Monday came and Safelite canceled again. And another apology. Then they were going to come to my house and then they were not. Another apology. There was one broken promise after another followed by yet another apology. Try to call Safelite and you got a call center in Who Knows Where? Try to get transferred to the local store and you get the wrong store. Get transferred again to the right store and you get an answering machine. Leave a message and you don’t get a call back. This is the Safelite Hustle.
In one of many subsequent calls, the Safelite representatives told me the saleswoman should have never promised the repair in a few days because the window had to be ordered. Repairing my window, of course, was not the job of the saleswoman — securing my business was, no matter what she had to say. And the repair, I was finally told, would require me to leave my car a full day in the shop. Finally, the day of the repair arrived — Monday, March 16, almost two weeks after my window was broken — and I dropped my car at the Mt. Pleasant shop. A couple hours later, I get a call. “We have some bad news, Mr. **. The dealer sent us the wrong window.” He apologized, part of Safelite’s corporate culture.
This is incredible. I have never experienced such bad service, so much deception, from any business in any industry — not even the airlines. I would not believe anything this company tells me, and you shouldn’t either. I went back, fuming, to pick up my car. They had reinforced the cellophane window, which was designed to last a few days but which was now almost two weeks old and wobbly. The manager apologized. Then it got worse. Leave your car parked on a city street long enough with a faux window and it is going to get broken into again. That is what I feared and that is what happened at 2:30 a.m. on March 18 — 16 days after the first break in — when someone tore off the Safelite cellophane window. I feel like I have been mugged by Safelite.
I eventually got my window fixed — by the dealership, not Safelite. It took two days to order the window and two hours to repair it. The irony is that until last year the Safelite store in Mt. Pleasant was part of a solid locally based company called Glasspro. Over 23 years, Paul Heinauer had been a familiar face on local TV, using his commercials to expand his Mt. Pleasant-based chain to 11 stores. Then last year he sold out to Safelite, the nation’s largest automotive glass company.
This is hardly the first case of a good local company selling out a corporate giant, which quickly proceeds to trash everything the founder built. Safelite, which itself was started by two guys in a junkyard in Wichita, Kansas in 1947, today has 720 locations and is based in Columbus, Ohio. It is a subsidiary of Belron, a glass repair behemoth, based in London and South Africa. It, in turn, is owned by D’leteren SA, a Belgium company traded on the Euronext exchange, ticker symbol DIE. You couldn’t make this stuff up. DIE is a long way from Mt. Pleasant, where Paul Heinauer started his little business all those years ago. And whatever he built died on Jan. 4, 2019, the day the deal closed with Safelite.
After installing my windshield my check engine light was on due to the technician not calibrating correctly. I was told I would be responsible for taking it to a dealership and paying the service fee. Then his supervisor had the nerve to try and claim my check engine light was already on. Do not use these people. He was rude and did not even come during the specific time window. He came an hour and a half early causing me to have to leave work.
My daughter took vehicle in because windshield was leaking and had been since install by local Honda dealer. I was hoping they could reuse glass but they could not. She called and told me what the charge was and I thought it was high. I got online and researched and saw that Safelite had online quotes. I thought OK and entered make, model, trim, the fact it had sensors. The quote came back much lower. When I called Safelite they came back with tax, disposal, shop supplies. I told them I know all that and it is on the website. Then they came back with calibration of safety sensors. I explained that I listed that on the options when I obtained the quote. In my mind they are intentionally lowballing quotes to get people to commit. Only business they will ever get from me will be warranty work on daughter's vehicle. I am sure that they are screening reviews on their website. So will find very few negative ones there but I bet it is 50-50 on other sites.
I booked an appointment to have our windshield replaced through insurance. We canceled after finding out that it would be cheaper to pay out of pocket and attempted to book another appointment. AFTER paying $334 for the appointment, the window pops up that our appointment could not be scheduled at this time and that someone would be reaching out to us within 30 minutes. An hour passed and no one reached out. I chatted with Shaneese who was not helpful and told me to call in as both of our work orders had been canceled. Mind you, we only canceled the one through our insurance. I called the number provided by Shaneese and apparently it was the wrong number for the issue I had.
I was transferred and had to explain what happened again to a woman named Tiffany who would not let me get a word in. She kept telling me that I would need to contact Paypal because she is showing we canceled our appointment when that was not the case, and said that she showed that we did not put a payment method in. I told her and the previous guy I talked to that I had a receipt from paypal, but neither were listening nor were they interested in me sending them a copy of this, since their system showed we weren't charged. I will be charging back this company and making sure that everyone I know does not do business with them. This is absurd.
If I could give zero stars, I would. It took them 30 days to TRY to replace my driver's side window. They came out with the wrong window 3 times... even after taking my window out. I dunno. Maybe compare it to the 3rd one you’re bringing out? Tore off my window visor (never gave it back to me) and broke my door handle connection. I called another company and they replaced it within an hour. This after being without a car for 30 days. I have never had such a horrible experience with a company. I wouldn’t recommend this company to my worse enemy.
Updated on 09/25/2020: Safelite came out 3 times. They broke multiple things while fixing the windshield. They gave me a hard time fixing what they broke. My windshield wipers arm is still not cleaning the whole windshield. I will never use them again.
Original Review: Safelite broke my dowel that holds my windshield. I was told this would be replaced. Now they say I am responsible for replacing the dowel.. Hmmm I didn't break it but I'm responsible. I am not a safelite lover.
We got a large rock to our windshield April 2019. Our insurance covered Safelite 100% so we went with them. It was initially great because they came to my work and replaced my windshield. As a busy mom who works full time it was a blessing, until the next day. My window started to vibrate obnoxiously any time we went on the highway or interstate. Over 55 mph and you thought the window was going to fly off.
Initially they said it was the tape I didn’t remove, then it was it needed to be reset, then it was faulty glass. 7 times in their shop for warranty work (by the way now my windshield leaks water every time I go thru the car wash) and 9 months later the manager at the local store tells me they refuse to touch it again. It must be my vehicle and something not caused by them...but if I wanted to go to the dealership and have them look at it, diagnose the issue, they would cover the cost if it was because Of the windshield. He was a total Jerk and basically called me a liar. Again, I am busy and do not have time for any of this but we cannot drive our vehicle outside of town.
Local GMC dealership had my car for 2 hours, reported there was so much double sided tape and glue on my cowl that’s it took them 30 minute to get it all off. Once clean, they reset it and it has been noise free ever since. Safelite did pay for the bill for GMC to fix the issue. DO NOT BRING YOUR VEHICLE HERE IF IT'S MORE THAN A CHIP REPAIR.
I definitely recommend Safelite AutoGlass. Needed to replace my windshield, called them on Monday and they scheduled for Tuesday (the day after). They texted me to tell they were going to be late 5 minutes. So sweet. The work was done and they replaced my wipers as I asked too. Just loved it.
Went to the website as advised when I called and scheduled a home visit for windshield repair. I was given a four hour window and waited five before trying to call. After a useless chat session I finally got to a live body who simply said the guy couldn't make it until Thursday, two days from now. I drive for a living and needed my car repaired ASAP. TOTALLY USELESS!!!!
Now that they are so big, they are jacking up their prices. Needed a price for a Toyota Sienna windshield. Safelite quoted: $319.99 at shop replacement, plus a Disposal fee $9.99, plus tax and $34.99 if it was to be a mobile service. So my mobile service price is about $364.98 plus any other parts and service and tax (differs by state). Called other companies they all ranged around @250.00. Safelite $365.00. Others $250.00. The more glass companies they swallow, the higher the price and the lousier the service. Gotta go and call anyone else to get the windshield.
Our first appointment had to be rescheduled because the wrong windshield came in. I understand that. However, our second appointment was scheduled for between 8:00-10:00 am. We are a business and our van would be out of service during this time, and also the tech in the particular van cannot service customers. The Safelite tech called here about 8:15 this morning and said we are 5th on his schedule today. What happened to our morning appointment of 8-10 am? We have had 3 calls into Safelite to find out what is going on and each call was a 30 minute wait to talk with someone. The technician is finally on his way to see us @ 3:00 pm. I completely understand that things happen, but to just leave us in the dark and not call us with an update is crazy. If the company I work for did that, we would not have any customers. I will not recommend Safelite to anyone.
Here is why I would not use this company: 1. We drove our car to a Safelite office to get a new windshield, after a flying rock cracked our windshield halfway across. They inspected the vehicle, gave us a quote and set up an appointment for several days later, because they had to order the windshield. We were impressed with the initial dealer, and they gave us a very good rate.
2. Several days later Safelite installer showed up, but with the wrong windshield. We were very concerned, because we had to make a 10 hour drive 2 days later, and they would not be able to get the correct one by that time. In response to our questions and concerns, the Safelite installer assured us that it was perfectly safe to drive a car on a major interstate for 10 hours with the window cracked halfway across. When we asked why we should even replace the windshield then (as the original quote was for about $1,000), he said that really the only reason you need to have them repaired is because it is illegal to drive with it cracked. This gave us pause as we didn't believe him on the safety assurance, but we figured the installer just felt bad about the situation and was trying to reassure us -- not that this is acceptable, but we wouldn't generalize comments like that to the whole company.
The installer also said that the new windshield should be a couple of hundred dollars less because they had mistakenly ordered a heated windshield, when ours was not heated. This made sense and we believed him, so we told him to go ahead and set up a new appointment for the following week at our destination. 3. We got an email confirming the appointment and called Safelite to discuss the quote. You cannot get through to a local office without going through their national phone bank, which is hassle. The national phone bank person gave us a quote that was actually more than our original quote, not $200 less as we were expecting. She said she had no power to quote anything less and would transfer us to the local office that would do the installing, but instead she cut off the call.
4. We then decided to call around and talk with Glass Doctor and the dealer we bought the car from, to compare quotes. We eventually decided to go with the dealer, even though the cost was substantially more than Safelite, because we were concerned about Safelite's ability to deal with the high tech features of our windshield, and we know our dealer will be accountable and provide good follow up service if needed. As it turns out, insurance would cover the difference between what Safelite quoted and what our dealer quoted. Also, though we did not use Glass Doctor, they were very candid with us and told us that they could not do it for less than the dealer. In addition, while they did not say anything bad about Safelite, they seemed incredulous that Safelite could provide the type of glass we needed for what they quoted.
Finally, Glass Doctor asked us for the VIN right up front so as to ensure they were quoting on the correct windshield. Not sure why Safelite doesn't do that to avoid situations like what happened with us. 5. When I called Safelite to cancel the appointment, I was told that they had no appointment under my name in the system. I insisted that the person search by telephone, and it turns out they did have an appointment that still needed to be cancelled, and she confirmed that it was in fact listed under my name. I felt the Safelite person was making it difficult to cancel the appointment for some reason, because every prior time we had called the Safelite national phone bank (again, huge hassle), they had searched by phone number and found our work order immediately. 6. In retrospect, I am glad Safelite ordered the wrong windshield, because the totality of this experience makes me not trust their quality, despite the lower price.
Made an appt through representative, not the actual location. I was asked question about my particular windshield. After waiting over an hour, they have the wrong shield.? It is missing the heater connection for the wipers. We had already ok’d a scratch on the shield, with a discount. We drove 40 minutes to the location to have it replaced.... Still waiting.... 1 hour and 40 minutes and counting.
So it's been a year now going into number two. Safelite as of last month finally found the leak, but the four times one replacement three warranty fixes they claimed the same thing. So finally after finding the leak the claim responsibility but refuse to pay for the damages. I have proof and have given them everything done everything and I have spoke with lawyers, but I'm poor to be honest and cannot afford the 3000$ to retain and move forward, look just have Safelite water test in front of you the owner. And as consumers we have the right to when entering a contract to get every guarantee that comes with it. Look and when they fixed it it was so unprofessional and negligent then next week they offer to pay me basically to bring my car and allow them to cover up the almost criminal what I would call property destruction or vandalism.
I'm willing to show pictures get 3000 looks just to tell the same story. Hey I have the voice recording saying they agree they are responsible and once presented with just visual quotes the billion dollar giant says nope too much, even though we did it and have well admitted fault. They Safelite think a guarantee is just to get you in the door it doesn't really mean guarantee. It's a scheme to get your money. Once they have your money contract I guess voids and so does warranty. Look even my insurance is in bed with them and I can't file a claim because Safelite I guess from the 30 hours spent on phone owns them the insurance Co.
Hey my insurance is supposed to represent Americans and honor them. But that's another story coming soon. Thanks Safelite for a year of torment and just the wonderful circus act you and your employees have performed. I'm still spending money and now looks like more to resolve a resolved issue. Light shines in the darkness and the darkness can't recognize or even try to understand what it the light is it's truth and a belt. I am will to share to the world if need be.
