Bought a 2015 Altima that has a constant vibration. After several visits to the dealer I was told that some of the cars manufactured overseas have this issue. "Sorry nothing else we can do." Luckily MN has a lemon law and that seems to have saved me.

My 2013 Nissan Altima SL was my first brand new car and I was absolutely in love with it. I bragged about it to everyone, always advocated for my friends to buy with Nissan, and was planning on buying future family cars from Nissan. Less than 2 years of having it and less than 35,000 miles, the car would not move when I pushed on the gas when the light changed while driving in the city, and would shudder and shake. It was towed to a dealership and is still there 4 weeks later. At first their systems couldn't detect an error, then they told me it was just the valve, and now when the part finally arrived and the issues remained, they are telling me the whole transmission has to be replaced with a remanufactured transmission. Best part: it doesn't come with a new warranty.
I've read about class actions with other models, some of which are still pending. I'd like to get one going for the Altimas. I read about just one dealership having over 40 Altimas brought in for the same issue and have read that many replaced transmission end up failing again, even in the middle of driving. I am absolutely terrified to drive my car, but owe $5k more than it's currently worth. I never imagined I'd have issues like this with a brand new car - it's why I bought one! Now I am stuck with a huge financial loss and a moving death trap with a time bomb strapped to it that could fail me again at any moment, and Nissan allegedly knows about the issue. I've read that it is specifically their CVT design, but regardless, something has to be done.

I saved for a long time, drove my town and country until it had over 300,000 miles on it to get my dream car. Got a fully loaded Nissan Altima silver in color. Since owning it I've had to fight to get my transmission replaced. Finally got it covered by Nissan after finding out on my own that the factory extended the warranty due to defective parts. Now, my clear coat is coming off in huge patches, my passenger airbag comes off and on by itself. Talk to customer service...it's my problem!!! Thanks Nissan.

2013 Altima with 30000 km (20000 miles). It is a v6 3.5 SL with technology package. I thought those cars should be bulletproof. Not really. Transmission chattering issue. Nissan did reprogram few times and it doesn't seem to make a difference. At low speeds I feel chattering and car shaking like it had fuel shortage and it's about to die. Then at 30000 km there was some knocking noise coming from motor. Took it to the dealer and they told me it's one of the lower bearings, and the engine needs to be replaced. It's been in the garage for 2 weeks now. I'm lucky car is still under warranty and it won't cost me but I'm worry if I'm having those serious problems.
Now what will happen when car reaches 100k and the warranty runs out. Apparently those CVT transmissions don't last and I read that some people had Nissan to replace them several times for the same issue. I love the car, especially the interior finish and comfort, but this car seem to have major issues outweighing good things about the car. Unfortunately I would not buy another Nissan. Car would be a 5 stars if not for transmission issues (and motor for me) however I'll have to give it one.

The number of recalls on this vehicle has made it very costly for us. We live 4.5 hours away from the closest Nissan dealer. There have been at least 5 recall which has cost us a weekend away from home, money for hotel and meals. This last recall for the module to be reset was just done Jan. 25th however when I got to the dealership 4.5 hours away, I was told there was a 2nd recall on the hood latch. The first time we drove in for that one, they greased it. Now we have to go back to have it replaced. They didn't have the part Jan. 25th as the recall was new. So another trip in and more money for poor quality. I've had rotors and break pads replaced when 90% of my driving is highway. There is rust on the trunk of a 2 year old vehicle. We paid for paint protector and in the fine print states it's only 2 year from time of purchase not from the time the factory warranty is up.
In November a customers officer inspecting my car called me out to show me that my battery was completely corroded and that I should get it fixed quickly as I wouldn't want to get stuck on the highway. I had it replaced immediately at a local service station. It had to be done. Now Nissan won't reimburse me for the battery. As for the rust--nothing. No warranty for the rotors or break pads on a 2 year old vehicle. I'm pretty fed up with all the repairs necessary on this "new" vehicle. I was told by the service manager that I should have contacted a dealership regarding the battery. And then what--risk driving 4.5 hours to have them replace it? The car is nice looking and the gas mileage is good. That's where it ends! I would never buy another Nissan, nor recommend it. Very poor quality in building of this car. Shame on Nissan!

I bought a brand new 2013 Nissan Altima and every 50K miles I have had to replace the transmission 3 times. Twice the transmission failed on the interstate and could have caused me to wreck. The other time the torque converter locked in and I could not drive the vehicle. I thought that I was unlucky the first two times but the last replacement was for the same reason as the first replacement. My Altima is dangerous because I do a lot of highway driving and I don't know when it could fail again.

Lots of problems have happened since I have purchased Nissan Altima. Every month I ended up going to Mechanic shop to fix something. Worst thing happened yesterday and I couldn't stop myself of writing bad reviews about Nissan everywhere. I was driving on the road around 55 miles per hour and in the middle of the road car suddenly stopped. I just came to know it's a transmission failure and cost to fix this is $3000 plus. Please don't buy Nissan cars, lots of people are complaining about transmission failures with Nissan cars.

I took my 2013 Nissan Altima Coupe in for it's routine oil change and tire rotation. I ask them to please balance the tires when they rotate. I was told that this is a $39.00 charge even though I have an extended warranty. After they where done with the car and test drove the car, I paid my bill and left. As I pulled out of the dealership, the car was making a roaring noise and front in had a shake. I immediately turned around and took the car back. It was not doing this when I brought it in...
After having to leave the car overnight, I was told that it had a bad hub bearing and that the tires on the rear had dry rotten! They replaced the hub bearing and gave me prices for new tires. The car has 56,000 miles... When they first let me leave, no word about problems with my tires until I brought it back. I even have the voicemail from the service manager that says my tires are unsafe and have dry rotted! I drive this car everyday and have owned it 3 years, you should be able to tell that by the mileage. How do tires dry rot when the car is not sitting parked for months? Did they put old tires on this car before I purchased it?

I purchased my 2013 Nissan Altima in May 2015 with 43000 miles on it. At 52000 my transmission went out. I was confused because I never dreamed of buying a practically new car and have transmission problems. It was still under warranty so I didn't have to pay. Now with 61000 afraid it's starting to do the same thing. Sometimes it idles really high while driving and shutters and drives rough. I travel a lot and I'm so afraid that something will happen while I'm on the road. This is my dream car but right now I wish I would've NEVER bought this car. I just pray that nothing else happens. If it does I hope it's before my warranty expires at 85000 miles. I wouldn't recommend buying a car with a cvt transmission and that also came from a mechanic that works at Nissan.

I bought a brand new 2012 Nissan Altima in March of 2012. I have always taken my car back to Nissan for every service needed. I have did every service that recommended for this car at the mileage. Around 70,000 I was driving from NC to KY and I began to lose power as I was driving up the mountain going the speed going from 70 to 40 and to merge to the right lane and put my hazard lights which was dangerous with tractor trailer trucks. As declined the mountain I regained speed but as I leveled off I lost speed and the pedal was to the floor.
At this time no engine light or anything appeared on the dash, I pulled off to the nearest Nissan after I GPS it in TN. They said it sounds like the transmission, I was livid at this point with so little miles. I said, "Ok, how about a flush." so that is what we did. As time I went on I did not have that experience again until another year while driving the highway, I blew it off thinking it was bad gas because once I had stopped the car and cut it off and cut back on the problem was gone. In total it has done this 3 more times until now 12/26/15 coming from KY to NC same thing lost power going up the mountain pulled off cut the car off cut it only this time the service engine light soon came and stayed on, which scared me because a single woman traveling with 3 children for the holidays.
Well I made it home but Monday I called out of work on 12/28, took it to Nissan and what do you know they say? "Ma'am do you have the extended warranty because the computer codes all came back reading 'You need a new transmission and the cost is $4,400.'" I said, "No, I do not. Is this common for a 3 year old car with 16,000 miles to need a new transmission that you guys did all the service to?". All requirements that you recommended including scheduled flushes etc. no one could answer that. I thought Nissan's stood behind quality as good as Hondas and Toyotas but they don't. I have seen those cars with a lot more miles and never need transmissions so guess what I will be trading my Nissan in for something else. I will never buy a Nissan or refer another person to a Nissan again.

Bought a 2014 Nissan Altima brand new. It's my only mode of travel which I do a lot of. Around 50k miles (I travel often), my car shut off while driving, this happened several times. My car slowed down quickly by itself & began to jerk as if I was running out of gas or something, by the way I had over a half tank of gas. Took my car to the Nissan dealership, received a new (remanufactured transmission) only to be told Nissan will not give any type of warranty with the new (remanufactured transmission). I have 10k or a little less left of power train warranty. If Nissan stands behind their products what is the reason as to why an additional warranty is not given for the "new" (remanufactured transmission). I thought Nissan believed in high customer satisfaction, I guess not. So I have a new car with a replaced transmission that I am still paying for & I am afraid to drive it.

Based on the reviews I have read I am feeling very disappointed and discouraged. I own a 2007 Altima and it was bought 5 years ago and it currently has over 100k miles. I must say I've gotten good use from this vehicle until yesterday, when out of nowhere the vehicle suddenly begins to slow down, halt and wouldn't accelerate even when I press the gas pedal all the way. I was stuck a few times and had to turn the vehicle on and off before I finally made it to my 3 year old school (thank God). I towed it to Pep Boys and paid $98 for them to tell me I need a new transmission and it would cost me $5,000, fat chance Pep Boys but it isn't happening. I would prefer to lease a brand new car for that amount of money.
My issue is, I am contemplating replacing the transmission but I have the feeling that I might run into the same issue again. I don't want to shell out money for something that is an issue to begin with. I had mostly good experience with my Altima BUT shame on you Nissan, knowing there are transmission issues with these cars and failing to do anything about it. My car is paid off for and based on these reviews I don't have any intentions of upgrading to a newer year since consumers are having the same issues whether it's 2013, 2014 or 2015. I'll be spending my money elsewhere. Now I get to give this mechanic a nice Christmas with the dough I about to shell out.

I bought a 2013 4 cylinder Altima brand new from my local Nissan dealership in Sept. of '13. I then recommended this car to co-workers and 3 of them bought Altimas. We drive about 30-35k a year for our job. At 55,000 miles the transmission went out. Thank goodness it was under warranty up to 60,000 miles. I read on the internet of many others having the same issue with Altimas. I mentioned that to the dealer when they replaced the transmission and was told, "No, there are no widespread issues". I was told the new transmission had a 12 month, 12,000 mile warranty and was assured that it was a good transmission. Within the next month, 2 of my co-workers experienced the SAME thing and had their transmissions replaced.
It has been 11 months and 30k miles, and my replaced transmission WENT OUT. I was told that it is out of warranty but the dealer would see if they could get Nissan to cover a new one. Yesterday, they called and said Nissan would cover all of the replacement cost EXCEPT $930. I told them that was ridiculous and I expected the full cost to be covered. They are going to get back with Nissan and call me back today... Ridiculous - 2 transmission failures in 85k miles. Nissan has a problem but they refuse to admit it. I will never buy a Nissan again and I would NOT recommend Nissan to anyone. By the way, I have visited with several other people who have had failed transmissions in Pathfinders, Sentras, and Nissan trucks. DON'T BUY A NISSAN!

I bought a 2013 Nissan Altima 11/2014. Here it is 11/2015, the car had less than 35,000 miles. Very unhappy now, I had no problems until now. Still have a car note but my car has 54,000 miles. Going to work, it cut off 3 times the next day, it started to jerk. Thought nothing of it but back in my mind I wonder was this the trans. But of course the car is only 2 years old so why would the trans go out? On the expressway it started to roar so I pulled over. I press the gas pedal and the car would not move! Then all of a sudden it accelerate real hard. I could have been in an accident.
So I took it to the Nissan dealer. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. Even though the warranty was over, the trans warranty was covered. As of today they have had my car for 1 week and 2 days. Nissan will replace the transmission but not with a new one but a rebuilt one which means I will end up still having problems. I still owe 4 years payment on this car. There is no way that a car that just made 2 years old should be having a transmission replaced. The new warranty they are giving is 12,000 miles or 12 months. REALLY NOT HAPPY AT ALL!!! Now I have to look into trading in my car next year with still owing money. There should be a class action lawsuit for 2013-2014 Nissan Altima. Not happy at all :0(

Just a quick note to hopefully assist anyone who purchased a 2013 Nissan Altima. The airbag light kept turning off and on indicating the airbag would at times not deploy when I (a 120 lb woman) was sitting in the passenger seat. After many failed attempts to resolve the issue, I discovered that Georgia law allows up to 2 years to identify an unresolved problem with a new car and then gives another 1 year to file for a lemon law reimbursement. After discovering this I ended up contacting Nissan who repurchased my car under the lemon law rules. A huge relief! I hope this helps someone else.

I bought a 2014 Altima. Since last year I've been having a lot of issues with it. The dealer wasn't helpful, I had to bring the car to different dealers. Nissan Canada hasn't been helpful, it's like too many chiefs and no one knows what they are doing. It's been the worst company I've dealt with. The dealerships don't care as long as they make a profit. Beware what they tell you, research your car, don't let them fool you. For two years dealing with this, car has airbag issues, brakes, computer doesn't read properly. It's a safety issue and it doesn't seem to bother them. Someone should do something with cars like that. We do payment on our vehicles to be safe and work properly and not be lemons. Consumers are not happy paying for a vehicle they can't trust.
Anyone having issues with their Nissan Altima 2014 if you haven't pass your warranty contact CAMVAP, they might help you. Right now my Nissan is parked, so don't go over my kilometers covered by warranty. This has been a nightmare, I have CAMVAP dealing with it, so hoping they can get this resolved. No one should have to go through that. They should recall or fix their products to satisfy their customers. The dealerships are also at fault for not informing the customers, like bring able to buy extended warranties for their car.

Recently purchased a 2014 Nissan Altima 3.5 SV. I have approx 26,000 miles on it. I am under manufacturer warranty and I also have multiple extended warranties. It intermittently shudders. I have had it happen sitting still and driving down the road. After reading reviews and complaints about the CVT transmission I took the car to my local Nissan dealer and of course they could not replicate the problem and found no issues while it was on the diagnostic computer. The service manager told me that they have a lot of people come in with the shuddering problem but never can duplicate it. Same service manager proceeded to tell me that "Altimas are good cars but when asked by my family if they are good cars I tell them to make sure there are no transmission problems." REALLY?!?
I also have problems with my passenger airbag sensor turning off with my niece who weighs 100 lbs. I have been told and (searched myself) there are no open recalls on my car... So, at this point I have contacted a attorney to see about a possible class action suit. There is currently a suit open for the 2014-2015 Pathfinder for the same issues involving the transmission. Nissan knows that there are problems and it is up to us to hold them responsible.

I bought an 07 Altima 2.5 SL with 42k miles on it in Feb. 2009 from Future Nissan in Roseville, Ca. Even purchased the extended 100k warranty with it. As I left the dealership all stoked on a new car, the check engine light went on, and right after that the gas light did. No kidding. That really happened. Wasn't even on the freeway yet. Took it back the next day and told them I didn't want the car because the check engine light was on and according to them the day before when they were selling me the car I was told that it was a Nissan Certified Car and had some kind of 100 point inspection. The guy straight told me once it's off the lot it's mine and he might let me take another vehicle, but refund was not going to happen. I said, "Screw it". I'll keep the car but I wanted them to find out why the check engine light was on. It took them 4 different times of me coming back saying the light is on again to have it actually fixed correctly.
First they said it was the brakes. Then it was a sensor. Finally after having the car about 2 months, it turned out it was the master cylinder. That was just the beginning. From the recall on the catalytic converter, to the faulty gasket on the air cooler, there have been a lot of issues. As of this review, my CVT transmission is shot. I took it to Nissan about a year ago and said, "I think something was wrong with the tranny". They inspected it and told me I just needed a transmission flush and change. 25 bucks a bottle for the all mighty Nissan brand that is the only approved CVT fluid and 280 bucks later I got my car back. That was the 3rd time I paid the 280 for the fluid change. It seemed to run better after that. Fast forward to about 2 weeks ago, my car started to really lack power, gas mileage went to crap and it started to sound horrible. Turns out it is the CVT transmission.
I started to research the issue and came across a link on the Nissan website saying that says basically they know about the CVT issues and the they were extending the warranty on these transmissions to 10 years or 120k miles. It was dated 11/09. 7 months after I purchased it from Future Nissan. But nothing was ever sent to us consumers informing us of this. So when I took it to Nissan and said I have tranny problems, I would still have been covered. Now that I'm in need of a transmission, I am 4k over the 120 warranty guidelines and Nissan won't help me other than offering me a 140 dollar diagnostic to see if it is faulty. I contacted the Nissan America and they say it's the dealer's problem. I call the dealer, they tell me to call Nissan America. I got my car with 42k on it. Bought an extended warranty to 100k. Find out that Nissan had it covers to 120k. I have 124k on it. 4000 uncovered miles and now the tranny is gone. Really?
I have quotes to get a tranny put in. The lowest I have so far is 3500. But do I want to spend that much on getting a new or rebuilding a transmission that is known to be faulty? It you dip a ** in platinum, it's still a **, right? The only thing worse than the quality of the Altima I purchased, is the quality of Nissan's customer service and the way they act towards their consumers. I thought Nissan was trustworthy. They are not. And they might pretend take back their product but it's all horse crap. Anyways I'm going to Toyota today and looking at a commuter like a Camry. I will never ever buy a Nissan or Nissan affiliated company's products again nor will I ever have anything positive to tell people about them.

I put it on drive but it doesn't do anything. It drives for a little bit and when I come to a red light it doesn't wanna go no more. Long story short so I took it to my mechanic and he told me I have a bad transmission. I am not the first owner of this car. I don't know how many people have owned this car before me. The car has 109,000 miles which my mechanic did some research and told me that some cars from Nissan that have a CVT transmission years from '06 to 2012 been having transmission problems and they been having a warranty on the transmission of those cars up to 120.000 miles.
Now I just contacted my local Nissan dealership and they told me that is true and to take my car to them to get check see if my car has a warranty on the transmission. Now my question is I know it has a bad transmission but will Nissan cover to put a new transmission. Pls let me know if you know anything. I recently purchased a 2014 Nissan Altima from Basic Auto Sales in June 2015. When I purchased the Altima it had 48,000 miles on it. The transmission went out on the Altima at 70,000. The cost to repair the Altima is $3800.00. There seems to be an issue with the CVT Transmissions being installed in the Nissan products. After doing research on the NHTSA website and reviewing the complaints regarding this issue, this has been a common issue with vehicles. Nissan extended the warranty for vehicles with this type of transmission up to 2013 models for 100,000 miles. There is currently a class action lawsuit for the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder and the CVT Transmission Issues, the same transmission that is in the Altima.
My issue is this: this is a significant safety issue. As I was terrified when the transmission went out on my vehicle, Sat, Oct 10th. I was driving down the road and suddenly the vehicle decelerated to 35 mph from 55 mph in seconds. Fortunately, no one was close behind me otherwise I would have been rear-end and I was able to steer off to the side of the road to get out of the way. Why would Nissan continuously put a transmission in a vehicle that they know has issues? Why would they not extend the warranty out as they did for other models to 100,000 miles?
There should be no way a transmission should fail on a car that is a year old and has less than 100,000 miles on it. I have contacted Nissan North America and I have had no resolution as of this moment. I have contacted the dealership and was told that there was nothing that they can do to help me since the factory warranty expired at 60,000 miles and an extended warranty was not purchased. I honestly do not remember being offered the option to purchase an extended warranty but I cannot say for certain.
So here I am stuck with a car that does not work, a car loan that I have only made four payments on. I am a single mother with 3 kids in college, there is absolutely no way I can afford to pay $3800 for an new transmission on an issue that is known. I am struggling to get to work. I have filed a complaint with the NHTSA about this issue along with others. I have filed a complaint with the BBB and opened a case with Nissan North America. Meanwhile, I am out of a car and still responsible for making payments on a car that is not drivable.
I mean I could understand if the car I purchased was older and had more than 100,000 miles on it. That is the risk that I would take but in the same token I would have made sure that I was offered or purchased an extended warranty on the vehicle to ensure that any major problems would be covered. To have the transmission go out in a car that is a year old and lower mileage is absolutely absurd.

I bought a used 2013 Nissan Altima just 2 months ago, and have to say that it is the best car that I have ever owned. I have only driven Dodge vehicles. I was a little reluctant to purchase this vehicle at first, but decided that I would give it a shot. First let me start off by stating that my vehicle had 50,000 miles when it was purchased. However, since owning it, I have had nothing but great experience with it, from the smooth drive to the amazing fuel mileage. We travel a lot, so almost 9000 later, still perfect! I have already told my husband that as soon as I am able I will be buying another Nissan! Love my car!

For those that own the 2014 Nissan Altima 3.5SL it's just a matter of time before the transmission fails. I first noticed slight shuddering at 30,000 miles, brought it to the dealer they claimed couldn't duplicate the issue... I stupidly and naively took their word and left. I lived with the slight shuddering until one day the car just up straight jerked forward and slipped out of gear. Brought it into the dealership that we bought it from, they claim they don't service Nissan anymore (sic).... They didn't tell me that when I made the appointment 2 weeks earlier. After much research I found out that the transmissions in these vehicles are faulty and that most if not all will fail. Thankfully we bought the extended warranty or else we would have to forking out $4000 plus for a new transmission that from all reports will fail again..

Covered under warranty. Jan. 03, 2014, Mls 76392, another problem with transmission. Covered under warranty. CRV replaced both times. If the car was driven for more than 2 hrs, the transmission would feel like it would freeze. So you have to pull over to allow it to cool down. I am VERY busy and on the road a lot. I just lived with the problem.
Until I decided I couldn't any longer. I took the car to another Nissan dealership, Sept. 03, 2015, Wallace Nissan, and had it inspected. They informed me the transmission is missing a plate and some pens, basically poor workmanship. I took the car back to WP Nissan Sept. 11, 2015, Mls 126347, this 3rd transmission has 49,955 Mls on it, but because of the time frame it is out of warranty. The dealership offered to repair their bad third transmission for $3900. I called Nissan consumer affairs, they called me back and asked for a week to check into the problem. On Sept. 28th they said because of the time on the warranty it would not be covered. REALLY!!!!! What happened to standing by your product or workmanship? THIS is POOR quality!! I even offered to pay $1,500 because I didn't bring it in within the time frame that was allowed.

I bought a 2008 Altima with an extended 3 month warranty. After 12000 miles the transmission went. I started researching Nissan and found out the company was plagued with transmission issues due to design flaws. I purchased a new CVT transmission and had it installed for $3,700.00 cash. It came with an 18,000 mile warranty. 22,000 miles later the transmission started to go. Same symptoms. It starts with a whining noise then eventually loss of power until it cools down, a check engine light that may or may not go on and off until it gets worse and stays on.
After lengthy research I realized my only viable option was to dump it. I let the car sit for days which time it would run and sound normal for a couple of short trips. I then took it to the Nissan dealer and bragged about how much I loved the car and traded it in for a great, used trade-in on the lot. Not a Nissan! I suggest to all that at the first sign of whining you dump it back on them. The whining noise ends up being a tranny even when they say otherwise. Don't waste time. When you hear the whining you're screwed. Let it sit then dump it back on them. The tranny issues at this point should be considered fraud. End game result, don't buy a car from the Nissan mafia.

Never offered to sell or cut the labor cost either. What a way to treat a loyal customer.
This was also the first New car that I have ever bought. Owned lots of cars but never brand new. This was my first new Nissan and my last Nissan. Just look at their star rating. I'm here to change my review not because the people there did a bad job. I still give their customer service a 10 and Dennis ** is still Amazing! The reason I'm changing my review is due to the issues I'm having with the car itself. After a month of the car, I started having issues with the car. It started with just the radio resetting itself while driving. I'm driving, the LCD screen begins to flash and my car eventually slows down and stops. The first time it happened, I had to call Triple A to come help me.
The second time the same issue happened, I was in my neighborhood and the radio starting resetting on and off and again my car slows down and stops. After turning the car off for a good hour, the car started perfectly with no issues for about 10 days then one fine Saturday this car ruins my whole day by deciding not to start at all. I took the car to Nissan and they told me, the car is not the problem it's my phone. Apparently, my Samsung galaxy note Edge is so brilliant it can mess up a car. I didn't know phones could actually disabled a car's function.
Is Nissan trying to do anything to fix this car, absolutely not. Apparently since I bought a new car, I have to buy a new phone. If I believed the phone was the problem I would go a buy one. It my first car purchase and I regret ever buying a Nissan. I should have stuck to buying a Toyota or a Honda. Yes the people are nice but I would stay away from Nissan from now. I wouldn't even recommend my enemy to buy a Nissan.

Car was beautiful! Black on black, leather interior, upgraded everything! And then it began. Within the first year, steering linkage control needed replaced. Warranty covered that. But within six months, the warranty was out and this is what happened. Every time it rained, the door locks started to lock and relock itself for up to 30 minutes. Some type of electrical short that couldn't be found. Heater did not heat due to an issue with the coolant and a design flaw - lived in CO, driving around frozen. Heater/Cooler knob mechanism broken - could not adjust from hot to cold, fixed for $350.00 so cool air could blow out when it was hot outside.
Wind noise on windows - when driving over 50 mph, whistling sound. Had to crack windows slightly. Dash light flickering in and out- couldn't see mpg, fuel tank, odometer, etc. Car shut off while driving - dealer couldn't pinpoint issue. Engine burning through quart of oil every week (Only used Mobile 1 Synthetic since day I purchased car.). Cat. converter malfunction - needed replacement ($1500.). Constant check engine light issues - O2 sensors, fuel injectors, evap sensor out. Coolant leak - engine started to burn through coolant. Transmission rough shifting (automatic). Brakes would freeze up when below freezing outside.
The list goes on and on. I always service this vehicle at the dealer even with my Mobile 1 synthetic oil. The dealer had no answers when I kept coming in at least once a month with issue after issue. It was just a suggestion to trade it in and get another Nissan. LOL. I was back in school, finishing up my degree after serving in the USAF. I didn't have time nor the patience to get back into another car payment. I paid this car off for a reason and spent thousands and thousands of dollars for nothing.
I will never, ever purchase another Nissan again after the garbage they designed and their refusal to stand behind their product. Nissan Motors had nothing, the dealer had nothing. All the reviews on these Nissan products are the same. Just google "Nissan Altima issues" and you'll see the countless complaints. The sad part is my 1999 Nissan Maxima lasted over 220k. Only stop driving after being totaled due to a drunk driver. I don't know if it was because these cars were built in Japan or what happened. That Maxima was a beast. In those 220k, had to replace alternator and starter. Car still ran like it was new. Now I drive a 2010 Toyota Tundra SR5 and a 2009 Lexus ES 350 and am happy. Never ever again Nissan!

2012 Nissan Altima purchased new Mossy Nissan. Driving on the interstate at 75 mph. Started around a truck and the car started slowing down. I tried to accelerate by pushing the accelerator pedal. This did nothing, I pulled to the right and it slowed to 40 mph after reaching the top of the hill put it in natural and coasted to the bottom put it back in gear and it was normal again. When the transmission fluid temperature gets hot it goes into a safe mode. I installed a Trans cooler - it helped but did not cure the problem.
I drove it for a month, as long as I keep in on cruise control it worked just fine but if I accelerated to go around slower traffic it would go into safe mode. Before I installed the cooler the hotter it was outside the more likely and sooner it would go into the safe mode so I would keep in on cruise control at 65 mph and it would not go into safe mode, after the cooler I could set cruise control at 80 mph in 100 degrees outside it would be ok as long as I didn't accelerate.
At 59000 miles the dealer replaced the valve body because the car was jerking at lower speeds. I have had the car at the dealer with no luck - they always told me there were no codes and could not find anything wrong. This only happens after driving about 40 miles and half way up the hill going home. I had a 100,000 mile warranty and as soon as it ran out the check engine light came on with a code PO744D. I could swear Nissan has the computer set not to show any codes until the warranty is up. Now it is costing me $4500.00 to replace the transmission. This car has become a DEATHTRAP, not trying to be dramatic but when this car fails to move after you pulled into an intersection it's only time until someone rams into you. Has been happening since 10k miles, have brought it in several times. Advisor states "we know there's a problem but we can't replace the trans until we get a code."
Then the car left me stranded, had car towed and no codes were set so they can not replace trans. Called Nissan and they're not willing to help until they get a code. This car is unsafe and Nissan is trying to hide the fact these transmissions are failing and are making the car absolutely unsafe. The final diagnosis was a worn seal to the passenger side of windshield and after paying to have windshield resealed and being without my vehicle for over a week, what happens after the rain... floorboards are soaked yet again.
If this is indeed a manufacturing issue, Nissan needs to issue a recall and fix the problem along with refunding me my money for paying to have something that probably was not an issue from the beginning. I purchased a new 2014 Nissan Altima back in May of last year with 8 miles on it. I have had several small issues that have come up and have had to take it in for maintenance, but nothing so serious that could not be fixed. About a month ago I started noticing that the car felt like it was "pulling" at times while I was driving. More recently, this past weekend, I noticed it was pulling and jerking more often. Speed was not a factor, it didn't matter what speed I was going, I would notice the RPM needle jump, the car felt like it would accelerate on its own and then pull. It got to the point of shuddering while I was completing a turn or at a light.
This past Monday while on my way to work, the pulling was constant. I called my dealer who asked me to take it in. While on the way there, the car started acting up again, but this time it just would not accelerate past 45. No matter how much I pushed that gas, it wouldn't budge. I pulled off the road, tried to restart the car and when I put it in drive, nothing. Tried reverse and again, nothing happened. I had the car towed to the dealer and the next day was told that it needed a new transmission. My car has 31,000 miles on it. I purchased this car new with the mindset that I would not have to deal with any car issues for a long time to come and here I am, less than a year and a half after my purchase and having MAJOR work done this car.
I thought I was purchasing a reliable, safe and gas efficient car, but it has turned into more trouble than I would have ever anticipated. Personally I feel cheated. I can relate to what a lot of people on here are feeling, the anger and frustration. Knowing that Nissan is aware of the issue but continues to sell unsafe and useless cars. I do not feel safe driving around in a car that can at any moment leave me stranded. I am so angry and disappointed.

I bought a 2014 Nissan Altima SV with convenience and tech packages. One of the main features that swayed me from the other 2 cars I was shopping (Honda Accord and Toyota Camry) was the automatic text messaging in dashboard, the many apps that come with Nissan connect--Pandora, iHeartRadio, TripAdvisor, Twitter, Facebook, Google Search--all the apps, text messaging, etc. automatically connect and start up when you start the vehicle. How great to have texts come in while you are driving automatically come up on the screen and get read to you out loud so you don't take your eyes off of the road. All the apps run at a push of a button.
Well one thing the salesman, the Nissan Corp, The Nissan TV and Radio Commercials don't tell you is "if you have the number one, most common, popular, cell phone in the world (iPhone) none of the great options that I described to you will work." But in all of their advertising, pitches by salesmen, pushes in their tv and radio commercials about those options , never mention that if you have a common iPhone none of this will work, like they promised you with their salesmen and commercials.
I have a iPhone 6 plus like millions of others do. When I called Nissan to question why nothing worked as promised, this is what they said, "all you have to do is start the vehicle, then plug your phone in with a cable to the head unit , then start each app that you want to use, then place your phone on your lap or console (hoping it does not fall down to your feet--life threatening)." I replied, "isn't that unrealistic? What happened to all the automatic safe connecting features that I was told about?" They replied, "none of that works with any iPhone." What a major disappointment. Oh yeah, on top of that you lose all your automatic text features, even with a cable your text function no longer works. I could of save a boat load of cash on options if I knew they would not work when I got the car home. So disappointed, as you can see. Don't fall for their false ads and promises like I did.

As I've noticed in a few other reviews, there were issues with it turning over when I pressed the start button. I would have to do it 2 or three times before it started, which was embarrassing in a brand new car. Then there was a hard idle when I stopped at red lights and such. The guys in the service department told me that it was normal. But it felt like I was in a massage chair!!
THEN COMES THE BIG ISSUE - compressor goes out immediately after I pass 36k! Every time I stop in traffic or drive below 30 mph, air starts blowing hot. I am furious! Take it to the dealership and they tell me that it's going to be $1500 to fix it. 2013 Nissan Altima CVT - Transmission input/output sensor failure at 1 year, 11 months old 69,000 miles. I was driving down the highway with my daughter & the vehicle lost acceleration. In heavy traffic, I managed to coast from the fast lane over to the shoulder around the two vehicles that just had a highway speed wreck directly in front of us coincidentally at the same time. We were pinned between a concrete barrier two feet away on the passenger's side & vehicles passing by at 70 mph two feet away on the driver's side as the sun was setting. The car was running & would intermittently roughly accelerate while the shifter was positioned in any forward gear or reverse, but the transmission would not engage.
The engine light & one of the two traction control lights were present. I was not even aware until this point in time that there was a secondary traction control light which is completely independent of the light that illuminates when pressing the traction control on/off button. I called a flat bed wrecker & at my expense had the vehicle towed to a closed Nissan dealership & left it outside their gate on a Sunday evening. The dealership diagnosed the issue as needing the transmission replaced. They said it actually does have transmission damage, but they have to replace the transmission because the input/output sensor located inside the transmission experienced part failure & Nissan will not allow them to open the transmission. My 2013 Altima, which I purchased brand new, was just short of being two years old & had 69,000 miles on it when this incident occurred.
The expense to have a Nissan dealership replace the transmission is over $4,000.00. I purchased this vehicle for the purpose of putting many highway miles on it & because my wife is the one who most frequently makes the four hour round trip with my daughter two to three times a week & I wanted them in a safe & reliable vehicle. I am thankful that I just happened to be the one with my daughter the Sunday night that our Nissan Altima fell short of fulfilling our expectations of their product and I strongly believe that consumers & Nissan alike expect a Nissan Altima to last much longer than two years before experiencing catastrophic part failure.
Some vehicle manufacturers today are offering no scheduled tune ups for 1000,000 miles & my Altima didn't even make it to 70,000 without a catastrophic part failure which by the way is past the factory warranty. I am very much considering some other vehicle manufacturers that are confident enough in their product to offer 10 year/100,000 mile factory warranties for my next purchase.

The latest issue is the trunk won't latch on occasions. It thinks the key is inside and I videoed it holding the key and it not closing. I took it in for its routine oil change and tire rotation. It has less than 15k miles on it. I had opened a claim with Nissan over six months ago and the last call I made was over a month ago and they said someone new would be calling me back because I was having a communication issue with my claims agent and requested a new one.
I found a work around for the remote start to lock and unlock and lock the car several times and it will recognize the code and start. My last tank of gas on a four cylinder got 21 mile per gallon. The dealer sales guy and service manager says I have to keep hounding Nissan to get them to replace the car and that they have had a few at their dealership that have had to do this. I would rather take my insurance off and watch it burn. For shame, trying to sell me a newer one, saying to me are newer cars don't have that problem. Oh ya, wake up, us people can watch all over the internet and see the same problems 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008 - you get the idea. I loved Japanese reliability but my old Nissan friends, you have ruined that for me. Just my opinion, and sorry for the bad grammar and spelling - I'm just your average, everyday normal guy who is not rich but not broke, just feel very ripped off.

The complaint is about a car I leased in 2012 July that has been having issues ever since I leased it. In past 3 years, I've tried my best to reach out to Nissan in all possible ways to get help; starting from contacting multiple service centers locally available in my city and nearby cities, to contacting customer service to sending emails. However, none of these have been really helpful. In course of past 3 years, brake pads have been changed 3 times, rotors have been worked on multiple times and other works have been performed on my car and the squeaking sound in brakes still exists.
Background/Timeline: 16 July 12, I leased new Nissan Altima 2013 from Vann York High Point; within a couple of weeks I noticed squeaking sound when I put brakes. When I called Nissan Dealership to get appointment to bring my car there, I was told new car makes that sound. The problem continued. Oct 12, I finally decided to take my car saying I need oil change and servicing and then complain about the brake's sound. They worked on rotors, but the problem still continued. I called again, I was told since it has been raining in the area, it is normal. So, I waited again.
Jan 13, again I tried to leverage on oil change & service excuse (since else I was not successful in getting an appointment); and took my car to dealership and this time I was told, since it has been snowing at that time, it is normal to hear squeaking sound. June 13, I decided to go to another service center, hoping they will provide better solution, so went to Crown Nissan, Greensboro. I complained about the same problem, I was told they inspected everything and did not find any specific reason why the car was doing this. Best explanation could be brake dust. For the rest of 2013 problem continued: During this time, I called Nissan consumer affair and they suggested me to take the car to the dealership.
Jan 14, when I took my car for servicing, I mentioned again about the problem, I was told that they worked on the bulletin, and that should take care of the problem. But, the problem, still continued. May 14, brake pads were changed. Problem continued. June 14, I mentioned that the problem still exists, I was told they cannot hear the noise and maybe it is something that is fixed automatically with time. They asked me to wait for some time and notice if this problem continues. Rest of 2014: Problem continued.
2015, I've tried to reach consumer affair several times. Brake pads have been changed 2 times, rotors have been worked on and the problem still exist. I've sent several emails, and have not received response. In past 1 week I have tried to reach consumer affair more than 20 times, I've left voice messages several times and no one is returning phone calls. Now, when I call customer service and give them the Case #, they put me on hold for 20 mins and just transfer my call to voice mail of representative name Crystal. I finally send a notification letter to Nissan consumer affair and sent email to their executive office. A girl name Hezha from Executive office called and asked for same information again that was already provided by me before, asked me to wait for 2 weeks and finally after 2 weeks came back and said Nissan cannot do anything. She said sometime brakes make such sound.
My concern: Since July 2012, in past 36 months I've already paid Nissan a sum of $10,080 in return of a problematic car. And, now the only option I have been offered by Nissan is that if I do not like the leased car I do not have to buy the leased car at the end of lease period; and I can return in when my lease ends. However, I would like to understand why I have been charged to keep paying for 3 years for a defective car. Other than the money I have been paying, I've spend extensive number of hours trying to soft this with Nissan. This is one of the uttermost horrible consumer support experience I have had in my life. Please suggest what shall I do next.

I have had nothing but problems with my 2006 Nissan Altima. 2007 was the first stated recall. Bought it brand new off the lot, and taken great care of it since then. I'm just now finding out about all these defaults after 3 motors, 2 transmissions, 2 radiators, and the A/C, which I paid all out of pocket. Nissan never contacted me via letter nor phone call. Contacted them, ran my VIN, then told me my vehicle couldn’t fixed because it didn't show up. When in fact on the National Highway Traffic and Safety Association website it shows 4 open recalls, and even more on automd.com. There are numerous website stating these recalls, every website except Nissan's.
I came VERY close to losing my life in their car. It stalled and shut COMPLETELY off without warning. Which happened on interstate 95 traveling back home for holidays. Had to swerve and avoid two 18 wheelers and other cars. Scariest moment of my life! Already filed complaints through the NHTSA, Department of Transportation, Safercar.gov, the Tennessee Commerce and Consumer Department, and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. And I've definitely gotten further dealing them. That would be my advisement to anyone dealing with these similar issues.

Recently I had water inside on the driver's side under my floor mat. Nissan said I needed to get a diagnosis by my dealer. They charged me $148 and said the sunroof was leaking. They refuse to replace my floor carpet and said it's environmental. This is the third Nissan car I've owned. This car has 42,000 miles. It looks new but I'm upset about the water damage. I will never buy another Nissan. The manager of my local dealership didn't even call me back!

I bought a 2015 Nissan Altima 3 months ago. A few days ago, the trunk was opened, using the key fob and the momentum from the trunk lifting, along with a gust of wind caused the trunk lid to slam into the rear windshield and shatter it. You can see on both sides of the windshield where the trunk lid hit. Also the paint chipped on each side of the trunk where it hit the glass. I took the vehicle to the dealership because I felt that the trunk lid should have never touched the window. The dealership was unable to make a decision on whether they were responsible to fix it or not and advised me to go above them and so I did. Prior to that though, I searched "wind causing trunk to hit rear windshield". I found similar stories like mine involving the Altima and I never mentioned a make and model in my search.
After going above the service department at the dealership, I was told that since the wind caused the trunk lid to hit the windshield, Nissan will not take responsibility. I mentioned my search results and was told that they were not denying any of it but wasn't allowed to speak about other cases and that currently there is no recall on the issue so they will not be fixing it. With a little bit of pressure, part of the trunk lid touches the window and I feel as though this is a safety issue. I hadn't read anything in the reviews, specs or manual stating that I need to use caution while opening the trunk when it's windy outside.

I purchased a used 2003 Nissan Altima in 2008. Since then, it's been a great car. I haven't had any major problems with the vehicle. This is my second Altima and I Love Altimas! However, recently my 2 driver side door handles broke off. Both times, we were only opening the doors as usual and the handles just came off. I researched the problem and saw online that this seems to be a common problem. I also have seen numerous Altimas around town with the same problem.
As I did research online, I found an article where one woman says she contacted Nissan USA and they replaced the handles for her being a loyal customer. So, I decided to contact to see if I could get any assistance. Of course after speaking to 3 reps, and taking my car to the dealership to get a quote as they requested, the answer was no. They won't even assist with partial payment. This is how they treat their returning/loyal customers. I was looking to purchase a Nissan Rogue in the Fall, but I will not be purchasing from Nissan again because of their ability to stand by their product. So disappointed!

I bought a 2008 Nissan Altima in 2010 with just over 30k miles. Today I'm at just over 151k. Yes I drive a lot but that's why I bought a Nissan. I thought it was going to be a safe and reliable means of transportation. Well I can say that the transportation part of that statement was true. This car has a slew of problems and I can say that even though I like my car I'd never recommend Nissan to anyone. I had a 2007 Nissan and it was totaled in an accident when a jerk ran a red light. So because I had no issues with that car and it LITERALLY saved my life, I bought another.
In late 2011 I started noticing I was having frequent migraines and getting really tired while I was driving the car. I didn't know at the time that my exhaust manifold was cracked and spewing exhaust into the cabin. This was causing my headaches. I learned of the problem when I took the car into the dealership that I bought it from.
The service manager told me it would be an $1800 repair but we should try to get Nissan to pay for the costs. His reasoning for getting Nissan to pay as opposed to the dealership (yes my car was still under warranty) was because it was a car the wasn't from the state of California therefore it didn't fall under the specifications for California emissions law. THIS IS THE BIGGEST LOAD OF CRAP I'VE EVER HEARD. So they sell me a car from Hawaii without telling me and somehow they don't cover emission based costs?
I went home frustrated and called Nissan Corporate who told me the car was my problem. STRIKE 1.. I also informed the Bureau of Automotive repair. Ah ha.. Now we are getting somewhere. Within 1 week of the call to the Bureau the dealership calls me to tell me they are footing the bill. Great BUT the problems with the car got worse from there. It whined when accelerating, turning, reversing, you name it my car did it.
Also I started to get shuttering or no power at all when I'd accelerate. Apparently this is just a characteristic of the CVT... STRIKE 2.. I've gone through countless sets of tires and brakes, my front struts are leaking (there's a service bulletin for them), I have to keep the windows open since the car is way too hot to drive with them closed. Sometimes the car wont recognize the key which could be dangerous if you aren't in a safe location. STRIKE 3. I have a Toyota Camry with over 180k with minimal problems. I could keep the list going but long story short this is my second a final Nissan.

I was driving my car, parked and it completely shut down. Bought a new battery and still nothing. Had it towed to my local Nissan dealership and they presented me with some unsettling news. It was the vehicle immobilizer system that was defective. Was told that Nissan extended the warranty for 5-6 years on this part. However, I was told that I was past my limitation by 2 months. I have contacted ConsumerAffairs as of 6/29, was told that I would receive a call back within 24 hours and still nothing as of today.
I think this is completely not acceptable and seems uncaring. I am still without car and my vehicle is still at Nissan pending some type of resolution from Nissan Consumer Affairs. This has caused a lot of stress on me and me getting to work. I have just had a transmission installed about a month ago and I don't have additional money for this part that is going to cost me $900++. Nissan Altima 2013 - While I was driving on the highway at high speeds, I almost got into an accident with my 3 year old daughter in the car because the car just randomly stopped. There was no indication of anything wrong with the car prior to this. Coming to a complete stop resulted in me going to a local Nissan dealership (White Plains, NY) and they were more than helpful to inspect my car but after three days with NO secondary car even though I'm under a 10 year warranty, they gave my car back after several phone calls to the dealership wondering what was going on, and within less than 24 hours, the same incident occurred on a local road. I am very disappointed how a Company can sell a car back to a customer with no indication of what was wrong or what has been done to prevent this occurrence in the future.
The employee never made it clear to me what was wrong so I thought since they looked everything over and changed the battery and passed an inspection, I accepted a safe and reliable car back. I am still unaware of the REAL problem with this car and no one is contacting me to establish this problem. After all of this for almost a week straight, I was the one who had to pay the town to come pick my car up as opposed to having someone from this company come pick my car up. If nothing is done about this complaint I will be filing a lawsuit with my lawyer against this company.

I have owned many Nissan vehicles and the purchase of the 2013 Altima will absolutely be the last one I ever buy again. My problems started the day I drove it off the lot brand new and at 38,000 miles the problems continue with no help from anyone. I have had the radio replaced, the gauge cluster replaced and it still doesn't work, the transmission is having problems, and the wheel bearings are being replaced today. Nissan is horrible to deal with. They don't care.
I filed a lemon law and Nissan finally attempted to fix the gauge cluster issue but it was never actually fixed. I still have problems with the center screen going blank just not as often as before. The car hesitates when you try to start it and then eventually turns over. I am waiting for the dealership to have time to check on the transmission. There is a four day wait to get my car in. I guess I'm not the only one having problems. The piece of junk is currently sitting in my garage while I'm carpooling to work because I was told it isn't safe to drive until the wheel bearings are replaced because they are so worn out, which isn't covered under warranty.
I'm a 28 year old women. I drive to work and the grocery store. There is no reason I should be having transmission or wheel bearings replaced. :( Hate just doesn't cut it for my feelings towards the dealership I bought it from, North Little Rock Nissan in North Little Rock, Arkansas. They are worse than a piece of gum stuck to the bottom of my shoe. I loathe them. What it comes down to is that I'm just a consumer. I'm another girl who bought a car from Nissan. Called a couple days later to let them know it is making a whistling noise. They looked at it and said it may be that way due to our frigid temperatures. Talked to another dealership and they said it is a common complaint with the power steering. I advised that I just had it replaced several months ago. They also said that the exhaust manifold bracket was rusted, so they replaced that. I then took the vehicle to the shop that fixed the wheel hub the first time and they replace it again. Fast forward to one day after that I left for a trip to Florida. Half way to Florida, I experienced my car not wanting to accelerate, and this very loud whining noise. When I pushed the gas, it got so bad that my car would not go in cruise control mode or manual. I had to get off the interstate before there was a serious accident.
Fast forward to on the way home from Florida, the car started doing the same thing, it completely lost power to accelerate. My husband had to cross 3 lanes of traffic so we would not cause an accident. That next day I took it back to the dealership to be informed that it needed a new transmission. Estimated cost to be $3,800.00. Yes you read that correctly. I called the Nissan consumer affairs. When I got a call back I was advised since I did not have the car services at a Nissan dealership they could not help me.
I also explained to them several times that I never got a notification that they were extending the warranties on the CVT transmissions. They advised that they still had the car under the original owner. I said "well then you see why I never received the notice." We have kept the maintenance up on this car. Nissan knows of the CVT transmission issues and refuses to help out with the cost. I will never buy another Nissan again. I bought the 2013 Nissan Altima new. It had 10 miles on it. Within 6 months, the hood opened of its own accord. Luckily the car was not in motion. It had been overnight in my driveway. It had been 12 degrees overnight. I couldn't close the hood, so called a tow truck, whose driver knew about the levers under the hood. The car was towed to a dealership who wrote that it was because of the cold. It took two years for the company to man up and issue a recall, after people who were driving had the hood open by itself, falling against the windshield, obstructing their view, and causing accidents. Even the recall notice, arriving two weeks ago, warned us, the drivers to make sure that we didn't pull the gas lever by mistake. No one driving is likely to do that.
The Owner's Manual stated that the car "may cause interference to a pacemaker, and cell phone." Why is this car even on the road??? And I learned that those of us with asthma will be mold allergic, and will be negatively impacted by this keyless, electromagnetic device. Also, these devices cause cancer. Thirty yr. ago I was told by a dermatologist that I had pre-pre cancer, but it was not until I had this car for a year that a dermatologist thought I should have two moles excised (cut open) to see how far along the pre cancer was. It was beyond mild, the least invasive. It was moderately irregular, as was my friend's, who I had taken on many trips to do errands.. A yr. later, I have 3 more moles that are changing color and need to be cut.
Updated on June 11, 2015: When we notify the Main Dealership (it was on the recall notice), we can get a response. Also, if it's a matter of safety that we're concerned about, we need to notify the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Apparently everyone is looking at high numbers in order to issue a recall. Sad, but true. Nissan did respond. I had records, but they requested them from the three dealerships I'd visited. It was especially telling that nothing had been done to correct the many problems I'd had: brakes squeaking at times, a/c and heater smelling like something was burning, intermittently - so bad that I couldn't breathe. The final straw was when the transmission went out. I will not drive this car again. I don't feel safe. Why do you all put up with bad????

Oh, where do I begin? I have had various problems here and there with my used 2011 Nissan Altima 2.5 since I bought it used a little over 2 years ago with a little over 30k miles on the odometer. It's needed several repairs here and there with I guess is to be expected, especially since I use the car for pizza delivery and I put a fair amount of wear and tear on my car. But there are a couple problems which I feel are unacceptable and shouldn't happen with such a fairly new car. The fuel door wouldn't open and eventually when I got it to open it was harder and harder to close until one day it refused to close shut altogether. I eventually had to buy a used one (was already painted the same color and fit perfectly) so I got that problem fixed no sweat.
But the biggest problem I'm having right now is chipping paint. On several parts of my car the paint is chipping off and when I opened up the trunk door, I noticed the paint is PEELING OFF around both sides of the edges of the trunk. I find this unacceptable. The car is less than 5 years old and this should not be happening! Also, the clear coat is peeling off like crazy all over the front bumper. Ridiculous. I love this car but dang. This is ludicrous. The cars have been very good so when we decided to add another car in the family, we decided to purchase the 2013 Nissan Altima. That was a mistake! The car has already had 5 recalls on it. Our vehicle has less than 60K. The first time it went to the shop was for the airbag sensor. On the passenger side, the sensor wold turn on/off sporadically no matter if there was anyone sitting in the passenger seat or not. I wouldn't want to be caught in an accident with the air bag sensor off.
Two weeks ago the car just stalled on the road. Whenever I turned the car on, it would start. But as soon as you put in gear, the car would shut down. Took it to Nissan downtown. They said the transmission is bad and it needs to be replaced. Fortunately, it is covered under warranty. I have been pressing Nissan Canada to provide me with report of went wrong. They are avoiding the issue and are not sending any data. This problem is so common, they should be sued for not having a recall. But then again, that would cost them more for the recall than dealing with lawsuits, they probably figured.
I am lucky that it costs nothing and feel for everyone that had to pay out of pocket. This is a big issue with Nissan but they won't admit to it. Either way I will trade the vehicle as soon as it is fixed. Don't need headaches once the warranty is done. From a loyal customer of Nissan, I won't be considering a Nissan again.

I was told that it would take 3 days for them to make a decision and now 2 weeks later they denied my claim.
Very poor customer service, we will never recommend anyone to buy a Nissan! Now that I have researched it, there are many other complaints that the exact same thing has happened to their Altima transmission… Shame on you Nissan for not standing by your product and refusing to right what is by far a huge wrong! I bought my 2006 Nissan Altima brand new. I service it and get the oil changed when needed. Oh and I only have 60000 miles on it. Was having issues with the steering. Take it to get checked. My whole steering rack was rusted out $1400 for that. Then I'm told my passenger side floorboard is rusted. Won't pass inspection. Nice. So now I must get this fixed when I pay this much for a car and hardly drive it. I don't expect this trouble. Now calling Nissan playing phone tag for almost 1 month.

I am truly amazed at what I have read! I thought I was the only one going through this!!! I have the same complaint with the 2008 Altima but this will be the 8th time my transmission has gone out. The first 6 times, the transmission was covered under warranty but the 7th time my husband was driving to work and the transmission failed and he was stranded. We were forced to rent a car and I spent several days dealing with the Nissan corporate office.
Once again we are in the same boat and our transmission is going out for the 8th time. I have contacted the Nissan Corporate office once again and they stated they would cover the parts but not the labor. As a customer I am in awe! I have requested that they send a Nissan specialist to come out and take a look at my car since it has gone out not once, not twice but 8 times!!! This is not normal for a transmission to go out 8 times when the car is only 7 years old. They have denied my request to send a specialist out so I have requested to speak to someone hire up. I feel I am getting the run around with this. I think it is crap if you ask me. I just paid my car off 2 years ago and I do not want to purchase a new car. I just want my Nissan to get fixed!!! I love how the commercial says, "The reliable Altima!" WHATEVER! Feeling frustrated!!

So I take the car in and find out I need a new transmission. So I get it replaced and 3 weeks later today 04/2015 - it is making the same noises. I stopped to have it looked at & they found no oil. Mind you, I never had a leak. I was told at that time that I needed a new engine! I purchased a new Nissan Altima car in 2009. The air conditioning system went bad in May 2013. I had to pay $900.00 to a Nissan dealership for a new air compressor. In September 2013, the air condition system went bad again. I had another air compressor put in by the Nissan dealership. During the summer of 2014, the air was working. I did not use air for the remainder of the year. In 2015, the air condition went bad again. On March 16, I took the car to the Nissan dealership and they said I need another air compressor. They quoted me a price of $1,114.06. When I told them that I was not going to pay them this since this would the 4th air compressor for the car (which includes the original one that came with the car).
The mechanic then decided to attach some wire and the car started blowing cold air. The mechanic said that this may last one day, two weeks, or the entire summer. The air only lasted one day. I will never purchase another Nissan car. I have never heard of one vehicle needing 4 air compressors. If Nissan was to replace it again and I pay the money, the air will probably go out again. Something is definitely wrong with Nissan automobiles.
Updated on March 26, 2015: This is a continuation of the 2009 Nissan Altima air compressor. I took the car to Goodyear for a diagnostics. They said the air compressor is fine; however there is an electrical problem that keeps blocking the air. They said the electrical problem came with the car and that is why the air keeps going out. Nissan was able to get the air back on for a day. However, Nissan still said I would need a 4th air compressor. Obviously, this is incorrect since the air keeps coming back on when you twist some wire. Why couldn't Nissan just be honest and say there is an electrical problem and that is how they got the air back on. Goodyear got the air back on as well. Bottom line, since there is an electrical problem, I have to find someone who does electrical work so the air will remain on always. I can't trust Nissan since they lied.

So I contacted Corporate and they contacted my dealership and gave me three options. Needless to say I got a 2014 Nissan Altima for what I owed on my 2013 even trade.
NOW I have a 2014 that was spitting and sputtering and check engine light came on. Took it in twice. Finally at 3,000 miles on it they said it was the Cadillac converter and changed that out, then I have taken it back 3 times for my dash lights around the radio not working, twice all they would say is they are functioning correctly for us. Finally I called the owner and had harsh words with him at Nissan of Rivergate and he had me bring it in and they changed out my radio, now I am back to it-- is spitting and sputtering every now and then.
So what do you do when you have been on your second NEW car and still can't get it to run correctly. I can't even trade it in for a different make of car cause I will have to roll over about $7,000 to another vehicle just to get a vehicle that will actually run like it's new. So i was driving from Los Angeles to Las Vegas last June 2014 in my 2008 Nissan Altima when the car started to get really loud and it was struggling to maintain speed. I was about 15 miles away, When i got off the freeway the car wouldn't drive more than 8MPH. So i looked up a nearby Nissan Dealership and took the car there. When i got there the Service guy yelled out loud. "Let me guess?? your transmission went bad?" I guess this is something very common??
So they took my car to get checked and he confirms that my transmission has just gone out. My Nissan Altima only had 126k miles. He also informed me that i was 6k Miles over and that my warranty wouldn't cover the repairs. So the service attendant asked me if i would be interested in trading it in, that they had great deals and that by doing that i wouldn't have to worry about future major repairs. So since i had just arrived to Las Vegas and i didn't want to spend my vacation trying to repair my car, and i didn't have $4,500 they wanted to charge me to repair my transmission, the idea of getting a new car didn't sound bad. So I decided to look at the cars on the lot and I picked out a brand new 2014 Nissan Altima. So I got a great deal, I was actually really happy.
A month goes by and the finance guy Bladimier from United Nissan las vegas calls me and tells me that they made a mistake and that i had to return the car. That they couldn't give me the .90% because I didn't qualify. I told him I'm in Los Angeles and I can't just leave my life without planning ahead. I also asked him why it took him over a month to tell me that, he said they were trying to figure out what to do. So he tells me "I'm going to send the sales guy from United Nissan Las Vegas with the new contract." So he does. The new Contract had a percentage of 4.89% I was really disappointed but I needed the car and how was I going to get my 2008 Nissan with a broken transmission back to Los Angeles? I felt helpless.
So 6 months later my brand new 2014 Nissan Altima started to shake a bit and that same week I was on the freeway when the car began to struggle and wouldn't drive more than 40MPH. So I took it to the dealership to get it checked out. And on Monday i get the call that my transmission went out...... I CAN'T BELIEVE I'M RELIVING IT ALL OVER AGAIN
The car is new with less than 13,000 miles, I can't imagine what other car repairs are ahead, maybe engine??? I still have to make payments for 4.5 years. I am very disappointed in Nissan in every way. I regret buying Nissan, NEVER AGAIN.

My 2009 Nissan Altima did not start. My car was towed to the Bay Ridge Nissan dealer. I was told that i had a steering column lock problem. They said that i might have a warranty but it was most likely expired. If i was to do other work on the car, they could make a pitch to the manufacturer to cover the steering column lock cost. To make a long story short, they told me that i had other problems - control arm, wheel alignment and service maintenance - and i need to get it fix which total over $900. The warranty to fix the steering column lock would only apply if i was to agree to do this other "needed" work. The Bay Ridge Nissan adviser told me that i would have to pay the full charge of the steering column lock - $966.63 - if i did not agree to do the other work.
At the time this happened, I did not know that I had an extended warranty. I did not find out until after the car was fixed and a second problem developed. They took full advantage of my situation to sell me services i didn't need. I'm very angry about this. I will be seeking legal counsel. The manufacturer should have informed their customers about the extended warranty and dealers should be honoring the extended warranty, not taking advantage of customer's bad situation to make a profit.
I will never buy another Nissan vehicle again. I contacted the Nissan consumer affairs too and they turned a blind eye, saying that they "resolved" the problem. They would not give me a refund and said they spoke to the dealer. This is their idea of "resolved." This is totally not acceptable. No one is taking responsibility for this dishonesty - not the manufacturer, not the dealer, not even the Nissan consumer affairs bureau. They are the worst car company ever with zero accountability for their defects. I hope no one will have to die before they decide to recall this defect.

My husband and I bought a 2015 Nissan Altima in December along with an extended warranty, and after 2,000 miles the CVT began making a rumbling sound and vibration at cruising speed. The sound gets worse when driving on the highway, so loud that it becomes distracting and extremely irritating. We had no idea that this would happen, and we took it in twice to attempt to get the problem repaired. The Nissan mechanics contacted Nissan about repairs, and were informed that Nissan considers the sound to be, "characteristic to the car" and that there were no repairs available.
We believe that this sound makes the car dangerous to drive because it is distracting, and that it will most certainly impair the car's future value. We are also concerned that it is indicative of future transmission problems. We requested that Nissan approve a buy back if there were no repairs to be done, and today they denied that request on the grounds that the car has not had enough attempted repairs. We yet again asked what we could do to have repairs attempted, and they responded that there are no repairs available to attempt.
So as of now we are stuck in a circle. We need Nissan to attempt repairs before they will approve a buy back, but they refuse to attempt any repairs because they do not believe the sound to be a problem, but rather a "characteristic." If the sound is a characteristic, we were not informed of this characteristic prior to buying the car or during the test drive. It was not present before 2000 miles, and we would not have bought the car if we had known. If Nissan continues to claim that the noise and vibration are characteristics of the car, then we will contend that we were defrauded by the dealer. A caution to those considering purchasing a car from Nissan. They have tried everything they can to keep from fixing our problem. If I could, I would give this company zero stars.

I missed two of my physio appointments, cannot go the doctor as the car is with the dealer for the third time for the same issue and all Nissan Consumer Affairs can tell me is that it will be fixed by warranty. The car does not start, has stranded me at work in USA. This is the third time and second warranty issue on a car that is less than three years old, well third if you consider the paint peeling, the car does not start, it stalls while driving. I told consumer affairs that I did not feel safe in the car and they informed me that that they will fix it under warranty. I do not feel safe in that vehicle but I am stuck making payments on this.
My concern is that I bought this vehicle a brand new vehicle for peace of mind and reliability and all this car does is cause extreme stress in my life. Nissan Consumer Affairs did not help me. All they said is that it will be fixed by warranty. My question. Did I buy a new car to take it to warranty each time, I could probably lose my job over the unreliability of this car. I work in a location that the dealer cannot give me a loaner car. I just want to Nissan to know, yes I am stuck with that car and that car will Bleed money off me once the warranty is over and Nissan lack of concern for customer satisfaction is appalling, they simply do not care if their consumer feels unsafe in the car due to its mechanical issues. 2014 NISSAN ALTIMA SV 4CYLINDER - Had to put a new transmission into her at 2 years old! Have had issues with it ever since I drove it off the lot. Have had it towed 3 times because it wouldn't start. I was told they could not replicate the problem at the dealer. Then in the middle lane on the expressway my car jumped like someone hit me from behind and then the car died. Every time I started it up it was fine until I dropped it into drive and would die. Thank god there was an accident up ahead and cars were already going slow or I could have been smashed into.
Got it towed to the dealer. Said I had a bad ECM, under warranty, battery is low and leaking. Was told the battery was only covered for 35 K or 3 years. I have 70k on it after 2 year. So Nissan thinks that after 35K you should put in a new battery!? That's crazy. I put in my first battery into my Toyota at 90K at 5 years! Now they call me and said, "Oh as we were finishing up, we got another error in regards to your transmission." I knew it was the trans, but I am a girl, what do I know! So they are now putting in a whole new trans under warranty. Okay that's great, but come on. A new trans after 2 years? This car is crap!
I drive a lot, which is why I bought what I thought was a good car. My first and last Nissan. Always bought Toyota's. As soon as I can turn it in, it's gone and I am back to Toyota!

First failure -- when power steering froze. At that time I had warranty and the dealer fixed the problem for free. The problem was a loose wire on a circuit board. Second problem -- at 48k miles -- the I-key system failure. I took it to the dealer and the problem is in the hood. The part is the linkage and since I have 48k the warranty is expired. $155 cost (Apple Nissan, York, PA). I have the car for a year and a half (2013 Altima). Why would this happen for a relatively new car?

Ever since we bought this automobile it has been nothing but one problem after another. I am at the point where if I do not get my money back, I am going to hire an attorney and sue Nissan. First off when I contacted Nissan awhile ago about my issues, the only thing they did for us was to reimburse us for one month's payment which was a joke. At that point I should have hired an attorney and started a law suit. I have tried to speak with the dealership about helping us and got nowhere.
First off the car was only about 3 weeks old and the torque converter had an issue and had to be repaired. Then I had excessive wind noise on the passenger side and the mirror had to be replaced, then a part of the front bumper came loose and that had to be repaired, then the air conditioner went out and that had to be replaced, now the transmission was shuttering again and the dealership is replacing the whole transmission!!!! Which after replacing the tranny they can't get the car to operate correctly!!!! I am done with this, I want my $4000 down payment back and you take this ** piece of crap back. Know that I will be contacting an attorney for help with this issue!!!

I have a 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5, 35,000 miles. I was stopped with the engine on waiting for my wife and my mother to come out of a store. The road was flat, the sky clear. As they approached the car my wife asked me to help my mother with her walker. I got out and to the rear of the car when it suddenly started moving forward. I ran and was able to grab the driver's side door handle but the gears were engaged and I was thrown to the ground. I suffered a severe leg injury and was sprawled on the road as the car moved on, eventually coming to a halt after colliding with two other cars.
Had the car been in drive, I obviously couldn't have opened the door and gotten out without the car's motion throwing me. Two weeks later, when I could again drive, I returned to the accident site and put the car in neutral. It didn't move because the road was perfectly flat. I can only conclude that the transmission slipped into gear by itself at some point after I had exited the car. I have no other explanation for what happened.

2009 Nissan Altima owners beware! I started having problems with the keyless entry to my car in June 2014. I would get a notice of "no key" when I had a key in the switch. I informed dealer about this and they didn't detect anything. They told me to take a pic of it when it happens. It continued on until today when my car steering wheel and brake locked. It showed a pic of the key to left side so I knew it was related. My bf YouTubed the problem and there are tons of videos that show how to turn car back on. Red flag to me! Finally turned car on with the help of video. I got to dealer and now they are saying all these problems were related to my complaint and they will need a manager to see if I will be responsible for $1000 bill. Seems like I'm not the only one having this issue with the steering wheel and break locking. Nissan needs to recall and fix this problem. Why should we be responsible for their malfunction of steering wheel/ brake/ keyless entry? If you are having these issues don't let dealer say there isn't a problem, have them look into it. Especially if your car is on warranty like mine was. Now I'm stuck paying all this money.

I have two issue with the car. It swerves all over the road at speeds over 50. I hate driving the car on the highway because you are always correcting and going into other lanes.... The dealer said it was the electronic steering. We wasn't use to it. 6 months later, they said it was tire wear. I have found on the different sites that says it is their program that controls the steering that is the issue. The second problem is the recall on the airbag. We had the recall done, left the dealer, and the light come on going home saying no one is in the passenger seat. Told the dealer again. They told my wife she didn't weigh enough for the sensor to sense her in the seat. She weighs 115 lbs. They told her to put her purse in the seat with her. Since then, it has done the same with my son who weighs 150+ and me at 180 lbs........ To me, that is unacceptable - a new car that does not steer good and has a passenger airbag that still won't work after doing the recall.

Found out after having it towed to Reed Nissan in Orlando, Fl. that the reason it wouldn't start was because of a part called the electronic steering column lock. I was also informed that the part was nationally backordered for 6 months. Nissan nor the dealer would offer a courtesy vehicle or rental reimbursement. I called Nissan and was assigned a person to handle my case and this idiot's advice to me was to trade my car into them for another Nissan. I leased a new Nissan Altima in April of 2014. I started having problems with the navigation system and the radio. I took the car to the dealership several times and each time I took it, they said there was not a problem with it. On the third time I took it in, they said it was a bad unit and they will replace it but it will take at least a month to get the part in. Then the car started turning itself off when I was at a stoplight. I took it in for that problem and again, they said they couldn't find the problem. I took the car back in several more times cause it was doing it more often. They checked it AGAIN and said they couldn't find the problem. I almost got rear ended at a stoplight by a large truck when the light turned green and my car wouldn't go.
I called Nissan Corp. and told them I wanted them to do a buyback. Almost three weeks later, they called and said they would not buy it back but said they might help on a dealer assist with help on a trade on another Nissan. A week later, they called and said they will NOT help me in ANY WAY. I was told by Nissan my call was being recorded and I said GREAT. I let them have it right between the ears. The morning they called and told me that, I took the Nissan Altima and traded it for a new Hyundai Equus. I will NEVER buy another Nissan again.

Has anyone reported having problem seeing what is behind you in traffic looking through center rear view mirror to see plainly the vehicle behind you in daytime? I have found since purchasing 2015 Altima car recently that a reflection is seen in back glass when trying to look to see who is behind me in traffic. Also, in attempting to back out of parking spaces, I cannot see to either side, esp. to right side looking over shoulder or to each side in daytime, but esp. night-time. The window facings and head rests are in the way. The rear camera works fine, but I cannot see if someone may be fixing to pass by on side, walking or riding.
The side mirrors do not help with seeing vehicle behind me. The problem with rear view glass is my concern. It is a shadow or reflection which is very distracting to me. It seems to be reflecting shadow of back dashboard, back head rests, and upper brake light area. The anti-glare feature, if it is working, does nothing for this. I cannot tell any difference of what anti-glare feature does. This all results in making me hesitant to drive this car. Also, the so-called compass is hard to read what direction I am headed while driving. The N, S, E, W direction letters need to be lit up. Otherwise, I would rather have direction on rear view mirror like my previous car.. The road map is difficult to read while driving. I find it hard to change channels on SRX radio while driving, probably better to do that while parked, but can't find station I previously may have liked but didn't set.
I do like how this car drives and brakes. The driver seat fits me. The lumbar feature of seat does not work well enough for me, though. The front seats are kind of small, though. I am a small/medium size person, so doubt a large person could temporarily drive car comfortably. There needs to be a space in door or by seat to put a purse, if you have a passenger. I found out quickly that the black floor mats get dusty/dirty fast. The dealer had large white paper on floor, so I didn't realize the floor didn't match seat color, but I should have noticed that. The car "pocket" is actually too deep. I cannot reach all way into it from driver side to get papers if necessary for a policeman, etc. I would prefer a digital readout for MPH that I am driving, instead of having to figure 55 or 65 from the dial. The gas gauge should be in a more prominent place and easier to read.
The "icons" on rear view mirror are very hard to see/read. It is also too easy to touch them unintentionally. The "icons" on lower left of dashboard are hard to see and figure out what they mean. Even the Nissan guidebook, in my opinion, is too hard to understand. The drawings are not easy to understand, I was told about "blind spot", but it isn't listed in back of book. I still don't know how blind spot warning is supposed to work. Coming to an intersection, it is hard to see what is coming on right side because not enough open space inside car to see traffic.
This is not my first new car, so I really do have a problem with couple of things mentioned. Enough so, that I am not super comfortable driving this car. I hope someone might know of something I can do to help the rear view shadow problem. It has only rained once since getting this car, so cannot say yet whether it leaks anywhere, or tries to hold water, etc. I did not want a sun/moon roof, but was told only came with it. If I don't get this rearview shadow glare resolved, I may have to complain further to Nissan dealer, but first wanted to see if others are having this particular problem. My other problems with car are not quite as worrisome.

Having searched online, I find that many people are having this problem. I've tried to get the doors to drain by lifting the bottom seals to find a clogged drain hole or plug, but nothing is there. It seems to clear out slowly after a few days with no rain. The dealership service has never heard of this issue, and there's no factory recall. I asked about drilling out a drain hole myself, but don't want to hit anything electrical or structural in the process.
I'm reading about people who have had their floor panels and other metal parts rust out completely, and Nissan isn't taking responsibility for what is evident design and engineering flaws in many of their vehicles. My car has less than 50,000 miles, and with all that water in the doors, I imagine it's only a matter of time before something short circuits in there, or we discover that the car is being eaten alive from the inside out. I would greatly appreciate any solutions to this problem, and hopefully Nissan will take note of it, or get sued one time too many, and dispense with it once and forever.

The CVT transmission in my 08 Altima goes into fail safe mode when driving at highway speed in high temperature. 3 dealerships failed to find a problem with my car. After research on my part I found that Nissan had extended the warranty on the CVT tranny to 130k for this very reason. At that time my local dealership replaced my tranny under the extended warranty. The problem persisted with no service engine light or notice that the vehicle was going to go into fail safe mode (while driving at 70 mph). My dealership then told me that although no code was being generated, the tranny cooler needed to be replaced... at the cost of $900+. They were given this info from Nissan engineers. The problem persists.
Today I found a post online copied from a 95 Altima owner’s manual. The fail safe mode is actually a part of the cars design. They can't "fix" it because it's built into the car. This does not help drivers who suddenly lose power without warning when driving on the highway at 70 mph. Given the multiple close calls I've experienced, I am certain that this design feature is going to result in someone's death as a result of a traffic accident. Fail safe mode is unsafe.
