I purchased my 2013 Nissan Altima used with 54K miles. A couple months after my warranty expired the CVT transmission went completely out and the car wouldn't drive. I had the car towed to the dealer to find out the repair was going to cost me $4,400.00. I contacted Nissan corporate direct to find out if they could help with the repair since my warranty had just expired. Well, the answer was No from the dealership, No from corporate. I was so frustrated and still owe a lot of money on the car so I paid the money and had the car fixed and about a year later which is today the car just starts to lose acceleration at the worst possible moment in the middle of traffic etc. And I can only go 20 miles an hour for about a few minutes and then regains speed just enough time for me to be smashed to pieces so I called the dealership! It will cost me $140.00 just for a diagnosis and then who knows from there. I would not recommend this car.

Bought this car for my son, and he loves it. The only problem I see is we have already had a transmission issue at only 40k miles. It was taken care of under warranty. Although the warranty was up so maybe an issue with that module that had to be replaced.

I want you to know since my review and calling Nissan corporate office; what has happened. The first thing I want to say Nissan listened; was respectful of me when I talked to them about the issue with my car. So far after battery replaced I have not had a issue. 24 hours after I talked to them; I had a representative from Consumer Affairs Nissan call me. He again listened; was respectful and genuine. Nissan for my troubles and inconvenience sent us a check and is paying one month's car payment. I worked for Ford and had a issue with a car I had; I was not treated as well. Nissan is first class in my book. If I have any more problems I am to call the same representative that dealt with me. Thank you Nissan! Yes I do love my 2019 Altima SL.

I have 800 miles on my Altima. I got in the vehicle to start. A message came up. It didn't recognize my key. It started and broke down, I called and had the car towed on Black Friday. Sales was there when we arrived. Shop was closed; so I left the car for e days. Monday they had the car all day; kept charging the battery and it failed. They put a new battery in. I feel uneasy about my purchase. After reading other comments of frustrated Altima owners; I need reliability. I feel this will not be the last of the problems. I am documenting everything with this car. My frustration is with everyone asking me did I leave this on or that on. I have been driving a long time; I felt insulted. I was glad the drained battery wasn't my fault. I live in an area where to get to a specialist for medical needs we have to drive 3 to 5 hours away from home. That is why reliability is everything. I wouldn't buy this car again. 20 computers in one car; too much; more to break.

Three years ago, I've bought a 2013 Nissan Altima with no problems in the first year. In 2017, my mother fell ill to cancer treatments and I had to give up my job a few months to take care of her. Contacted Nissan finance department and explained the late payments, and will be employed within the next few weeks. From May 2017 to December 2017, they threaten to repossess my car because of family and finance issues. But all in all I was making payments even though they weren't full payments. Overall, Nissan doesn't care about personal problems a customer may be facing as long as they get their money, and I mean all by any means necessary! They will lie and threaten you if you don't do as they say. If you make a complaint, they will challenge you with falsifying information to cover their end. So my advice to people is, NEVER BUY NISSAN! RUN THE OTHER WAY AND NEVER LOOK BACK.

2019 Altima has a horrible transmission. I just got this car a few months ago and I’m already having issues with the transmission. There’s only 7500 miles on it and now it won’t start. It says CVT malfunction every time I try to start it. What doesn’t help is when I’m trying to leave work at midnight and can’t get home after working all day. I used to love Altimas but I’d advise anyone thinking of getting one to not buy a Nissan vehicle. If it’s happening so soon on a brand new car, that means the transmission is a piece of crap.

I have posted this on my FB page only to find out Nissan Altimas 08-10 were notorious for this defect. They said it would cost close to 6K to replace. That is more than the car is worth. I would reconsider before investing in Nissan. I had no idea the reputation for this car was that it would have such a faulty and expensive problem. THIS CAR HAS A TRANSMISSION THAT IS FAULTY, THEY WILL NOT EVEN HELP KNOWING THEIR PRODUCT HAS THIS ONGOING ISSUE. WHAT A LEMON.

Nissan knows they have a major problem (it's all over the internet) and they basically told me they would need $185 to diagnose the problem. A five year old can determine the problem as you can stand in front of it at night and stare into the headlights and not even be fazed. I reported it to the NHTSA so we will see where it goes. Apparently someone will have to be maimed or killed before Nissan acknowledges the issue. Never again!

I purchased my second Nissan Altima brand new two years ago. I purchased it because I had a 2014 with high mileage, but it had worked wonderful. I get this second car no issues, then two days ago I am at a stop light, when light turns green I hit the gas and the car does nothing. Then it gradually starts rolling, and kicks into gear. I parked the car and had it towed. It's the CVT transmission. My car is out of warranty by 10k. A new transmission will run me $4100. They only guarantee the new one for 12000 miles. Do some research on Nissans CVT transmission before you buy one! These transmissions have had issues for years. I wanted to get this out there and hopefully help someone avoid owing three more years of payments, for a car that is just going to sit in the driveway.

Nissan Altima Has Defective made CVT Transmission Purchased at (Alexander Nissan Inc Muncy PA). 2013 Nissan Altima SL purchased off the showroom floor was made with faulty parts. We bought our first new car in 2013 after driving old junk for too long. Nissan old junk would rust out bad by the time they had 200,00 to 250,000 miles on them. The thing that made us by a Nissan was that the engine and transmissions would last with no major problems. I put protective coating on all the spots that rust on our new car. I was not aware that the CVT Transmission and Air conditioning pumps were made defective.

Our car sits out at the dealer with a bad CVT transmission and AC pump. The owner's manual says to change transmission fluid at 60,000 mile. I had taken extra good care of the car my wife drives by changing transmission fluid at 29,859 and at 59,950 miles. When our Altima was towed in and hooked up to code reader they said 11 error code came up saying transmission is no longer good. Nissan mechanic agreed that I should not have to pay $3200 for a used working defective transmission or $3400 for a rebuilt defectively made transmission. I think in 2016 Nissan was reported to have fixed the problem with faulty made transmissions.

I want Nissan to pay for the repair with a free new transmission made after 2016. Our car investment should also get some money for the value lost by Nissan building Altima with faulty parts. If you Google 2013 Nissan Altima transmission the first pages are full of lawsuit information and complaints. Nissan needs to correct the problems by replacing all these bad transmission free of charge. OUR AC has been out for a year. I read pumps are made faulty.

I bought my wife a 2017 Nissan Altima from Don Davis Nissan last year in May for Mother’s Day. Within two months we had to put it in the shop for making a popping and crackling noise when turning it also was riding uneven. They replaced the front strut assy. Within two months it was doing the same thing. In less than a year it had been in the shop four times to fix this problem. The last time we tried to take it in for service Nissan service department told us not to bring it because they didn't know what else to do to fix those problems.

We filed with the BBB and Nissan declare it a lemon and they replaced it with a 2018 Nissan Altima. We pick this car out in August 2018. It only had 144 miles on it. Two months later with 3,400 miles on the car it is doing the exact same thing. So, this time we took it in to Waxahachie Nissan Dealership Service Dept. just maybe they could fix it for good. When we told the service adviser what the problem was. He drove it around in the parking lot with us in the car. He acknowledges he hears all the noises. He even told us what was making the noise. He said it was coming from the suspension and the linkage in the steer wheel. Then he had the audacity to tell us it was normal that all Altima make those sounds. Let me remind y'all that we had been thru this process about a year ago and Nissan tried to fix but couldn't and declared our other Altima a lemon. COME ON MAN REALLY!!! So, needless to say we are filling another case with the BBB on Nissan.

I purchased a 2007 Nissan Altima new in 08/2007. On 12/11/2009 I received a letter from Nissan which doubled the powertrain warranty to 10 years / 120,000 miles. On 3/1/2014 with 117,540 miles the CVT transmission began making whining noises and was replaced by the dealer under the powertrain warranty. In September 2018 the replace CVT started whining again. On 09/8/2018 I brought the car to the dealer to change the CVT transmission fluid. I was told the transmission fluid smelled burnt and the CVT showed slight signs of buckling during their test drive. The dealer declined to change the fluid for fear it would cause more problems. The car has 177,354 miles but the transmission is under 5 years/60,000 miles. Unfortunately, the replacement CVT is only warrantied 1 year / 12,000 miles.

There are so many complaints from Nissan customers with CVT transmissions. The 2007 CVT transmissions lasted longer than the 2014 with the new ones failing around 60,000 miles. The Nissan CVT transmission problem has not been resolved, it’s actually worse. In today’s disposable society most owners don’t keep cars long enough to experience a failed Nissan CVT and others never post their experience. This allows Nissan to hide the issue and not correct the problem. Nissan CVT transmissions problems are no secret to dealers and mechanics.

I called NISSAN corporate customer service. They looked up the service history based on the VIN. They declined to repair or replace the transmission because the 12K mile warranty on the replacement had passed. If it were a new car the transmission would have been covered under the 60k miles. I have been a loyal Nissan owner of four cars dating back to my 1977 Datsun 210. I WILL NEVER BUY OR RECOMMEND NISSAN AGAIN!

My 2014 Nissan Altima is barely 4 years old and requires a new CVT transmission. I filed a claim with NISSAN USA and they made a decision to deny covering the cost for the new transmission with the wrong car mileage. They stated my car had over 127,000 miles on it when it was 117,000. Additionally the claims representative, Kasha, made a point to emphasize that it was still going to be denied despite the wrong information. I was then referred to her superior and the same occurred, stating it was still going to be denied. I am currently awaiting another response from someone in a higher position.

How can you put a car on the market with a life expectancy of 4 years and have the nerve to sell it to hardworking American families for over $21,000? Then make no effort to reconcile the issue by taking responsibility for your faulty product. I'm not asking for a handout. I'm asking for a quality car in return for what pay for every month. I still owe over 8k for this car and am now expected to pay another $4200.00. NO ONE should PURCHASE A NISSAN. The corporation doesn't care how hard you work for your money nor about the quality of the product they put out. If they did, they would take responsibility for this poor product.

We fixed that and then eight months later the muffler, alternator, and the starter all went at the same time. Since all three things went it wasn't worth repairing the car even though we'd replaced other things already. When the alternator went the automatic windows had been down so we weren't able to put the windows up and it rained outside getting part of the interior wet. Outside of that the car ran great. Good little car for the money. I liked the radio and how the car ran for a used car. There were no problems the first year that we owned the car. It was very fast for a non-sports car and handled really well except on ice. We chose the car because our friend has one a year newer than the one we bought and really liked it except when it broke down.

I do not usually write reviews about anything but after my whole ordeal with the Nissan Corporation I felt it necessary. After I had purchased a 2008 Nissan Altima Coupe I recently ran into some transmission issues. Upon research I discovered that Nissan had done a lazy job in constructing their transmissions for their CVT motors. As such they did initial offer an extended warranty on these models that was covered up until 120,000 miles and July 2017. Learning about this extended warranty I decided to file my claim, however they decided not cover this even though it would be no trouble to them whatsoever. However for someone such as myself being a recent college graduate behind on student loans and working on paying for applications and exams necessary to be accepted into graduate school naturally I barely have any money, let alone transmission replacement money.

As such something of this circumstance is truly detrimental to me. It's truly amazing that a billion dollar company who cut corners on a product that affects a person's livelihood felt no sense of responsibility to correct their shortcomings. Because for me it is not the fact that the transmission went bad (it's like nothing is going to last forever). It's the fact that they put individuals who trusted their business in this circumstance by cutting corners and offered someone such as myself (and I know I cannot be the only one they denied) no assistance at all. To say that I am disappointed and disgusted in this corporation is an understatement, sufficient to say I will never in my life purchase any Nissan product and will strongly discourage any individual I know or who asks me from also buying any Nissan products as they are clearly a company that does not believe in or practice accountability.

I changed the battery, plugs, wires, AF sensor, filter, oil, coolant, alternator, etc. No relief. Recently, after driving for about 45 minutes, the car started revving up the RPMs while on the interstate to the red line. This would last about 5 min, then lose power. Then it would drop below 50 and continually lose speed till I stop. It would whine on the interstate. I could pull over for 5-10 minutes and restart to get power to finish my commute.

However, numerous times I’d come off the interstate to make a turn & lose power almost being hit by other cars due to no power. The pedal to the floor but no acceleration. Brought it to Nissan who said they have not heard of any of these issues, but my transmission needs replacing for $5500 or I could get a used one for $4800. I took the car to the Nissan dealer where I bought the car, they stated that because of this issue the Nissan Corp extended the warranty of a car. They stated that this is due a manufacturing irregularity (a defective piece). The Nissan dealer replaced the piece, Nissan stated that this piece never should fail. 4 years later the same piece failed again. I took the car to a different auto mechanic, they called Nissan, and they stated that is not anymore under warranty. (For a Nissan piece that should never fail). It looks like they replace the defective piece that should never fail with another piece that was also defective, and needs to replace each four years.

The car originally should be in a RECALL because of this issue. I read many websites about these issues and I realized that I am not the only one that is having this problem with this car. I call Nissan Corporation to find a fair solution for this issue, they responded that the car is not under warranty and cannot do anything else. Of course I told them that this is the last time I buy a Nissan, that I feel very disappointing with their business, and I will not recommend to buy a Nissan to any of the people I know. So we got a brand new transmission from the factory that totally failed again 2 years later on the freeway leaving her stranded on the side of the freeway.

The new transmission had 60k miles of driving as the odometer was 144 K and so we were out of the warranty period and the previous work was only covered for 1 yr. These are the worst transmission ever, you may get a great price but you will lose that savings replacing these CVT transmissions as it cost $3200 to replace and the mechanic said the entire inside was totally thrashed. About a month ago I took it in for a transmission crankshaft portion sensor recall. I was so happy with Nissan and thought I would be a lifetime owner. Now I just hope I can get rid of this one and forget about Nissan altogether. Thanks for a wonderful 3500 expense at Christmas.

My 2012 Nissan Altima VIN: **. Since when my car had 31,000 miles I explained Nissan that my car had problems with my transmission, no acceleration and winning as many other unhappy Nissan owners with CVT transmission, they told me "don't worry is normal." At that time I believe that.

Now my car CVT transmission broke down and they don't want to pay for my transmission, when I open my claim with Dylan from Nissan consumer affairs agent number ** on October 19, 2017. He told me to bring my car to Nissan Crown Motors in Redding California which is about 2 1/2 hours away from my house. I was worried about the money that Nissan roadside assistance will charge me for towing $314 which I paid but Dylan told me that they will reimburse me the money and as well diagnostic fee $120, now they denied my case.

They refused to pay me neither reimburse me what I paid for towing, they clearly know that my CVT transmission is defective but they don't want to pay for replacement. Also this car is dangerous because of the defective CVT sometimes will not accelerate or reduce the speed drastically. Now my car is in Redding California at Nissan Crown Motors dealer and I have no way to get it back. I asked several times for a copy of my case file but they refuse to provide me one. I purchased my 2016 Nissan Altima SV brand new from Nissan of St. Charles, Illinois. One month after my purchase the radio completely died and needed to be replaced. It took Nissan one month to send a new unit to the dealership. Meanwhile, I had to drive a Nissan Versa (basically a golf cart) until my vehicle was repaired. At 50,000 miles the transmission started to have trouble up shifting. I took it to the dealership to be diagnosed and no codes appeared. This meant “nothing” could be done to address the issue.

At 59,995 miles the transmission failed completely. If it would have failed after 60,000 miles, I would have been out of luck. Fortunately, the dealership replaced the “valve assembly” and repaired the transmission. The staff at Nissan of St. Charles was great. However, I’m one of many Nissan Altima owners to have this problem. In my opinion, Nissan should extend the warranty for Altima owners or for any Nissans that are having this transmission problem. I will never trust the Nissan brand again. If I wanted this hassle, I would just buy another Ford. Lesson learned!

I requested Goodwill Assistance on a transmission since a transmission is not supposed to fail at only 79k miles. A case specialist reached out to me today to let me know that Nissan has decided to do nothing regarding this issue. I then called Nissan Consumer Affairs and was told that because I don't have enough vehicle history at a dealership, they wouldn't assist even though my car is less than 20k over the warranty.

Nissan Regal in Roswell, GA told me that this kind of problem is an actual problem with the transmission itself and there would be no way to assess that it was going to fail last week. I have always kept regular oil changes, tire rotations, etc., just not at the dealership since it was further from my old residence. (Once we moved this year, Regal is close enough to start going). This is my 4th Nissan. I've always trusted this company, but now after almost getting into a serious collision in the middle of a busy intersection with my kids in the car, due to the transmission stalling on me, and Nissan saying they will do nothing about it, I will no longer have trust that Nissan is a reliable and dependable company. I have since filed a complaint with BBB and will be making my way down the line to include social media and media outlets. We had it floored going up an incline and the fastest it would go is 50 mph.

I just recently put the Altima into the Nissan dealership for service. The day before my appointment I googled the problem and found out many more people with CVT transmissions are having the same exact problem! Nissan is aware so they extended the warranty on the transmission to 120,000 miles or 10 years. BUT they will not fix my problem because they said they cannot duplicate it!

I offered to take one of their drivers out for a long ride to duplicate the problem. They said I cannot do that. I don't know how Nissan can get away with this! I have a 2008 Altima that I bought late 2012. Not even 6 months after I bought it the transmission went out on it. I was barely under warranty with the mileage, but Nissan replaced it with no problem in early 2013. I began experiencing transmission problems again recently. I knew the warranty was out, but I wanted to have Nissan check to be sure it was the transmission. I was told that when my transmission was replaced in 2013 the technician should have replaced the external cooler. He explained that since it wasn't replaced it is now causing the fluid to get too hot. At this point I am completely understanding that the technician at the same did not do everything that he was suppose to while replacing the transmission. When I was told that there was nothing that they could do I was offered the customer support number. I called and opened a case with Nissan.

The first person that I spoke with agreed with me that it sounded like it was the technician's fault and the transmission should now be replaced by Nissan at no charge since he did not do what he should have. I received a call later that day from a specialist stating that the manufacturer will not be providing any financial assistance due to the mileage and the warranty is out. I was not asking for financial assistance. If it is Nissan's mistake from not replacing the transmission cooler during the first transmission replacement then I should not have to pay anything seeing as this is not my fault that the transmission is slipping AGAIN.

She was not willing to work with me whatsoever. I feel like I have really been screwed over on this. A new transmission is more than what my car is worth. I have always bragged about how Nissan has treated me, but I am very dissatisfied with this experience. I will never buy another Nissan and will never give them another penny after this.

I had read about the complaints regarding the CVT transmission but disregarded them because what I believed that what is seen on these sites are the complaints about a product which doesn't necessarily give balanced information about the reliability and desirability of the product. Do I ever regret ever buying what was my first and what will be my last Nissan product. I was away on business when my transmission failed on my way to a meeting. The transmission failed without warning, none at all. The motor stopped and I restarted it and put the transmission in gear and the car would just shut off. I had the car towed to the local Nissan dealer who told me, a few days later, that my transmission was trashed.

He also told me that my "cheapest" option would be to have them install a rebuilt transmission for about $4200!!! As I was 100 miles from home I told them to go ahead and fix the vehicle. A day later when my business had been completed I was informed by Nissan that they would not be able to complete repairs until the following week. At that point I had to get home, so I went to a major rental company and ended up with a... Nissan Altima. As I was waiting for the car I had told the rental agent about the problem I had with my Altima. He told me that of all the vehicles they rented, it seemed that they had more Altimas towed out of their yard than any other vehicle! The point I'm trying to make is to stay away from this vehicle!!! You stand the chance that you will share the same experience that I did. My transmission died at 68,000 miles.

NO TRANSMISSION IN A VEHICLE MADE IN THIS DAY AND AGE SHOULD FAIL WITH THE FREQUENCY REPORTED ON THIS AND OTHER SITES! My previous 2 vehicles were Honda Accords both of which had 200,000 miles on them and both of which still ran well when I traded them in with no major repairs having been performed on them. While I don't feel that most any major corporations have much of a conscience regarding the reliability or safety of their products, it is puzzling that Nissan would continue to sell a vehicle with an unreliable transmission. How do they expect to stay in business selling such a defective product?

I got a brand new 2017 Nissan Altima S on the last day of January. To be honest I was pretty happy with the car. The gas mileage was pretty good and the drive smooth. Three weeks into the lease the check engine light goes on and I feel something is off when I push the gas pedal. When giving gas the car wasn't responding the way it was supposed to. There had to be something wrong with the transmission I thought. I panicked and went to the nearest dealership so they could take a look at it. I spent four hours at the dealership waiting for them to diagnose my car. In the end they said there was nothing wrong with the car and they restarted the car's computer. I knew this didn't make any sense and I didn't want to return anytime soon with the same problem.

I told my service advisor that this was not acceptable. I didn't want to come back in a month because of the same problem. How would restarting the computer help? She was persistent saying that the problem would not arise again and that if it did she would take care of me and everything would work out quickly. It didn't. About 2 months later the check engine light was back and so was the unresponsiveness of the transmission. At this point I was beyond pissed off having to deal with the same problem for a brand new car that I only had for 3 months. I went back to the same dealership and that service advisor wasn't there that day. Someone else took care of me and I explained the entire situation to him.

Before giving up my keys I made sure to confirm that if something was wrong with the car and was covered under the warranty that I would get a different vehicle while my car was under repair. I was told many times that I had nothing to worry about and they would take care of me. Close to five hours later, once again, the car was finally diagnosed. And guess what the problem was... THE TRANSMISSION! They said it is covered under the warranty but it'll take close to a week to fix since they need to order a new transmission for me. When I ask for a loaner car or a rental the service advisor looks at me and says with a straight face "We can't give you any car sorry."

I asked him why he told me before that I could get one. And what was I supposed to do without a car for a week. I am paying for the lease and I should have a car to use for the money that I'm paying. He plainly replied with "I'm sorry but you have to go to the dealership where you got your car from and there they'll give you a loaner car or rental." I left the place with my car with the broken transmission. I had spent a total of 10 hours at this place and I still could not get my car fixed!!

I ended up calling Nissan corporate offices and told them my story. They opened a case and unneeded to wait for someone to call me back. It took a couple of days to finally get something to get in contact with me. After we finally got in touch I told them the entire story. The lady was confused as to why this dealership would do what they did and not help me with a loaner car since a bad transmission will obviously take a while to fix (especially since it's a 2017 car they don't even have it in stock at the dealerships because it's brand spanking new and it's not supposed to have these problems).

After a week of waiting and a few phone calls I was finally told that I could go to a rental company and get a rental and would be reimbursed most of the money for the rental cost. I finally took my car into the dealership for repair today and got my rental car. The amount of ** that I went through just to get my car fixed was not fair and not right. I was talked to with attitude by most of the staff at the dealership and the first time they just sent me away without fixing the problem. I am very unhappy with Nissan and would not recommend them at all to anyone! BUYER BEWARE!!

Was told as others, "That's how the it sounds because it's older and nothing is wrong." Then from there my catalytic converter went out. I was totally shocked. From there it's been one repair after another each year. From AC compressor, spark plug replacements twice because of misfires, two engine mounts and a much louder engine to the point I put in neutral to quiet it down. Starting car in cold it sounds like it's being tortured but when it's warm sounds like a champ on start up.

Now I'm grateful because many of my issues happened after 100,000 compared to others. I've owned Nissans since I was 19. Now I'm in my 40's and I barely took care of my other Nissan cars when I was younger and had less issues but this car I kept on top of maintenance and repairs and to have these common major repair costs year after year are tiring. So after reading the other horror stories about transmissions going out and other issues experienced by others, I decided to get a new car and it definitely is not a Nissan. Because based on symptoms I've read, that's next. There should definitely be a class action lawsuit.

I love my Altima. I ordered it new in 2013, and almost 4 years later I have only 29,000 miles on it. (Am retired, & we have another car so just don't drive it often). It drives beautifully and quietly. So I was surprised when suddenly it was very noisy, with a rumbling noise from underneath/under the hood. Had it looked at by a relative who owns a garage, he couldn't diagnose it but felt it was a motion-generated noise. It got worse and I took it to Nissan dealer. He drove it with me and within 3 minutes of driving off the lot he knew what it was. He said it is often diagnosed as a transmission or bearing problem but in fact it is not. When we got back to the shop he printed off a Nissan Service Bulletin dated July 5, 2015 # NTB-13040a, classification EM-13-003a. This describes the "rattle or groan noise from engine area" at 20-40 mph; 1400-1500 RPM; "may also be misdiagnosed as CVT or heat shield related".

The alternator is the problem and has to be replaced. While the alternator functions just fine, it does create this rumble. He said no worries that the alt will go out or cause another problem. So I guess you could ignore it if you choose. The real problem as to fixing it is that only a limited number of alternators are made for the QR25DE engine, so it can take weeks/months to get a replacement. He said that usually he doesn't care if owners choose an OEM aftermarket part (about $100 total cheaper with labor) except that he said in this case he has seen them constantly kick off the dummy lights afterward, so owners are never sure if that's what wrong or if indeed their new alternator is going bad. So I figured I'd have the aftermarket one put in, by relative's shop.

When I picked it up I still heard noise. So I had him take it out, and called Nissan to set up replacement. That was 3 weeks ago and still waiting. Today they said they have no idea; it will just show up when one becomes available. The alternator is (as expected) back-ordered. Total parts and labor will be $455. While I am not happy about that it's sure better than those who paid for new transmissions because of bad diagnosis. So that's why I am writing this, it's something to check if this is your problem. And then you can ask why your own Nissan dealer didn't check their service bulletins! Hope it helps someone.

I bought my 2013 Nissan Altima SV about three years ago. It has been regularly maintained. My mileage is near 80,000 miles and my transmission has went out. Now normally I would say it can happen to anyone, but guess what it's happened to many, many people. Read any forum about Nissan and you will see their CVT transmissions have been faulty since at least 2010. I am so disappointed and am at a loss. I called customer service for two weeks straight. I kept getting transferred and even been hung up on my regional manager named Lisa from Chicago area. They declined any assistance on a $4000 fix even after the fact it has a recall on the transmission. They told me the recall has nothing to do with why it's broke... how would they know????

Clearly with many people having the same problem at low miles even way lower than my mileage indicates a flaw in their design. I am so, so disappointed. I don't know what to do. I can wipe my savings and buy new transmission but if I do that who's to say this won't go out soon. I have read many reviews where the second transmission has went out as well!!!! Don't ever buy a Nissan!

My tranny had problems with whining at 119k just under the warranty cut off. Took it to dealer and they put a new valve body on instead of replacing transmission. Was told I only needed that part even though I knew the CVT was trash from all the reviews and complaints I found online and I demanded a new transmission. Well 5 months later I had a new noise coming from transmission. This time bad bearings. Need a new transmission now, $4054 for fix. Took it back thinking even though I'm over the 120,000 mile warranty that I'd be ok because I experienced problems before. Oh boy was I wrong!!! They refuse to help me at all.

Called Nissan Consumer and that was a waste of time. Don't bother!!! Very rude and could care less that I'm a single mother with No car now. She even had the nerve to tell me there is no record of Maintenance being performed. Well I bought the car at 95k miles and have done tires and oil changes on time. I never heard anything about Maintenance when I took it in the first time for repairs under warranty. DO NOT BUY FROM NISSAN PEOPLE!!!

I am the owner of a 2013 Nissan Altima Coupe. My vehicle only has 55k miles and one morning I noticed that the steering suddenly was very tight when trying to turn out of my driveway. I took the vehicle to my local Firestone to diagnose the problem. They kept the car overnight trying to figure out what the problem was. The next day they informed me that it was an issue with my power steering and I should take it the dealer on Monday as they should fix it under warranty. I took my vehicle to the dealer who later told me that my steering rack was "bad" and it was going to cost me $2,300.00 to replace and it was not covered under my power train warranty. My father is a mechanic but lives in another state and I called him to discuss this issue before authorizing any repairs to my vehicle. He informed me that this is not a common problem on a vehicle that only has 55k miles on it.

When I picked up my car from the dealer that afternoon I asked for some details of what was wrong with my rack since Firestone has specifically told me there were no leaks in it and they were a little confused themselves about what the exact issue was. The answer I got from the dealer was "it's just bad and sometimes things happen". The person I was dealing with was clearly new and could offer no information other than what the mechanic's note listed on the invoice stating my rack was "bad". I paid them the $155.00 it cost me for the diagnostics they ran and I left with my vehicle.

I then did some research and consulted with multiple mechanics regarding the issue and all informed me this was a default with Nissan and this problem should not have occurred with a vehicle with this many miles. I was also informed that the power steering system has been a problem for the 2013 models but because no one has been hurt due to the defect Nissan has not issued a recall. Unfortunately I am stuck with this vehicle and I am still paying the car note on it. I luckily found a mechanic that will replace the part and is only charging me $300.00 for labor as opposed to the $800.00 in labor quoted by the dealer. I have always been a loyal Nissan customer but will Never purchase another one after this experience.

I bought a 2009 Nissan Altima slightly over a year ago. Had less than 40K miles on it when I bought it, and was always maintained by previous owners. I went out to start my car a couple weeks ago after work, only to find that it wouldn't. Not even an attempt. My FOB would unlock, lock my car. The interior lights came on strong...but it wouldn't recognize my key in order to start the vehicle. Meanwhile, snow and ice was falling, it was dark, and I was without transportation. Tow trucks had an estimated several hour turnaround time to get me towed to places that were shutdown over the weekend which did me no good. Getting a ride home from a coworker, I did some research and found all signs pointing to my ESCL having broken. I called Nissan and was told it'd be roughly $1100 to get me running again. It was no longer covered under warranty, but was a known problem for many, many years. This has been reported by thousands of Nissan owners.

My car has less than 50K miles on it. And this is unacceptable. Not having $1100 readily available (hence, having bought a used car from Carvana, which does a very thorough diagnostic on all cars sold through them), I found some workaround involving banging on the ESCL with a hammer until it starts, and then pulling the fuse for that part. And it worked. Car started up, and has started up ever since, but I have no steering column lock now. I'm still worried that it will fail at some point in the future and leave me stranded once again. But that part, it's still broken, and is a fail safe for starting the car should it fail again. Shame on Nissan for allowing this to be put in their cars, and for not issuing a full recall for it. Having owned multiple Nissans, this was my last straw with them and unless they repair it at their cost, I'll never own another Nissan again.

Can we say LEMON! Nothing for all the time lost back and forth for repairs and complaints, plus a half day's pay I'm out when the car kept quitting on me and had to be towed back to the dealership!

I will go into the negative probably with my next trade but I will never give Nissan another penny! I hate you Nissan idiots who designed and made the CVT transmission! Feel a little defeated right now! But please be sure to pass this along, and look at Nissan reviews before you buy one. Nissan will not buy back or compensate, they say "I am not in any danger". Initially we were told by the adviser, Paul, assigned to us, it was under a 8yr/80,000 warranty and replacement value of 100% for a new transmission. After the technician looked at the vehicle, we received a call from Paul, stating we are not under warranty. He said the warranty is 5/60. This was a HUGE mistake. Now he tells us we have to pay for the entire cost of $4168.76 for a new transmission. This is unacceptable. There is no way a vehicle should need an entirely new transmission at this stage of its life, 2013 with 75,497 mi.

We also own a 2011 Honda with 135,000 miles and we have NEVER had to deal with any major issues. NEVER. That's double the miles and 2 years older! We are working with the Service manager of the Brandon location, who is contacting Nissan for assistance. We are sickened of this inconvenience and setback this has caused our family. We are not prepared to pay such a high cost and not have a drivable vehicle to get to a job to pay for this. It's just unbelievable and unacceptable. Well sad to say today 130k and it's basically dead. The transmission has gone for the second time, the first time warranty covered it. However I had to take it into dealer 3-4 times telling them about it and they refused until finally I wouldn't leave until they agreed to replace. I also had the head gasket replaced under warranty and under my own expense the ad compressor ($900) which shouldn't go out on cars that often.

Now this weekend the transmission went out again at 130k. I'm so over the car. I don't even know it's worth fixing. From what I can tell it will not be covered. Though the last transmission was put in 3 yrs ago.:( I will try and call Nissan North America and get some help but they have been closed for holiday weekend. In mean time we barely got to side of freeway when it went out and we're stuck there over an hour waiting for tow. Now I'm carless and can't get to work. We purchased the extended warranty for $3400 because we wanted him to have a reliable car that would be covered through college. The car caught fire and threw a rod. Even though the entire engine and all parts were completely covered under warranty, Nissan's warranty department refused to cover it since we didn't have a receipt from our last oil change that we did at home. My son had only put 9,000 miles on it in the last 18 months since we purchased it. We had to use our insurance and they totaled the car out. We still owed on the car and the amount they were giving us would not pay off the loan.

We called Nissan Consumer Affairs because "the Nissan Warranty department does not interface or speak with customers," and we're informed that even though we never used our warranty and had only had the car for 9,000 miles they would only refund 50% of what we paid for the warranty. When the warranty department refused to honor its warranty contract we could not even speak with them because they do not speak with customers. Nissan Consumer Affairs is also a joke. I'm so over Nissan. I can't even begin to formulate my frustration into words, but I will try. Ever since I purchased my 2013 Nissan Altima I've had nothing stress and headaches. The car has not broken down on me, but I know that there is a problem because when I accelerate on the gas there's a vibration throughout the car. It's loud and sometimes it feels as though the car does not want to accelerate. On top of that there's a humming sound that will not go away and the car jerks a lot. When I try to drive at a constant speed of 20-30 mph there is a constant vibration and it sounds horrible! The dealership where I bought the car from is named Car Vision. DO NOT GO THERE TO PURCHASE A CAR! All they will do is basic maintenance and send you to the manufacturer to have your car serviced for major repairs like they did with me.

When I bought the car it had less than 25,000 miles and now it has a little over 25,000 miles. I took the car to a certified Nissan dealer on Essington avenue in Philly and he told that's the way the car should sound and was very impolite in regards to my concerns about the car. Later I decided to take it to Ardmore Nissan to be service and all they are telling me is that nothing bad is coming back from the codes, so the car is fine. They hear the sound, but there's nothing they can do about it.

So I guess they're waiting the transmission to go and I will not have any transportation to get around in. I've only had this car for a month (10/4/16-11/10/16) and I thought that I was getting a good deal. I thought Nissan was great running car. I had to take my car to MIDAS, just so they could diagnose what was actually wrong with the car. I've seen several reviews from other Nissan owners experiencing the same complication, such a huge mistake buying a Nissan once again.

It was previously owned by the the dealership's owner. The car began to have hesitancy issues at stop lights and stop signs but I thought it was me. The car's RPMs would soar up and the car wouldn't budge an inch. I would stop and restart the car after a few min. As it would happen sporadically, I began to fear for my safety so I took the car to Kelly Nissan on 95th in Oak Lawn and the dealership where I bought it, Star Nissan on Touhy. It took them a week apart at 57000 miles. Both dealerships gave the verbatim response that because the issue was non replicable they could not assist me in any way. The dealerships both wanted to charge me for "services" like verifying the issue.

The issue persisted until it finally happened again and the check engine light came on. Was able to drive the car to an AutoZone where they ran the codes on the car and told me the transmission was gone. Called Nissan Consumer Affairs and informed them of my two documented cases of bringing the car in for evaluation. They just contacted me, while I write this, asking me to take it to a dealership for evaluation. Will keep everyone posted on the outcome.

My car has approx 92,000 miles on it. About 2 weeks ago I was driving through my town and the car kept stalling out when I would come to a stop light, but I was able to restart and move on. I thought that maybe I either had a bad load of gas or that I had been running the air conditioner too much. I promptly took it to a mechanic that I had used for oil changes and minor work. They diagnosed it as a transmission problem and wanted to replace the transmission. They charged me $148 for diagnosis.

I wanted a second opinion so I took it to a mechanic that came highly recommended. He had the car for 2.5 days and stated that he couldn't definitively point to a transmission problem. He did say that the battery was bad and replaced that. I was charged for the battery and $40 for diagnosis. I drove it home. The next day it started stalling on me again while I was driving up my street on my way to work. When I returned from work, it stalled again on the highway. That evening it stalled and bucked while I was at slow speeds. The RPM's were racing but it had no power. I reported this to the second mechanic. I also called Nissan who gave me a reference number and suggested that if the car continued with the problems, to take it to the dealership.

I did take it that evening and parked it. I received a diagnosis of "bad transmission" and was given an estimate of $4200+ tax. I was told that since my extended warranty ran out that I would be responsible for the payment in total. I see that others have had issues with their Nissan Altima's 2010 & earlier (these had been covered and warranties extended to 120,000 miles). I was told that my year has "a different model" of transmission. However this transmission obviously has issues too.

Nissan has either flaw or defective transmission from the manufacturing and they need to address it or consumers end up paying the price, a hefty price.

My car is completely oxidized and they are telling me it is the environment. I am hoping that other people throughout the country come forward if they are experiencing this same issue. If we all come forward they will have to do a recall and repaint out cars. The seal coat is the issue, not the environment. If that was the case, all of my vehicles would have oxidized. This company does not stand by their products and are not willing to help the consumer at all! Shame on you Carlos Ghosn, CEO of Nissan.

I have been a loyal Nissan customer since 2000. I bought a 2013 Nissan Altima 2.5 SL; currently has 98000 miles and the CVT transmission failed. The car just died on the road. It jerked and vibrated a couple of times and then just died. Towed it to the dealership, and after $125 for diagnostics fee, they found metal pieces in the fluid. They mentioned that this is not the first time they have seen this, and it is nothing that you did wrong and there was plenty of fluid in the trans so it should have never happened. The total cost came out to be $4200.

I didn't think much of it until I tried to go uphill. The car wouldn't go over 15 miles hour up the hill. I took the car to Carmax and they said the transmission needed replacing. But I was still under warranty with Carmax shop. I only paid 200 out of pocket. On June 8th I noticed the same sound coming from under the car, so I went back to the shop. They got the 2600 dollar transmission for free but I had to Pay almost 1800 for labor. I was driving last night and guess what? Yup, there is the sound again. 12k warranty on the new transmission. These were brand new transmissions, not used. But I am at 14k because I drive Uber. Let's see what happens.

I brought my vehicle to the dealership because the rear door won't open. The vehicle is 4 months out of warranty and I have been told that I have to pay for the defective door. I was told that there something inside the door has to be repaired or replaced. Since this isn't an issue that would be caused due to normal wear and tear, driving conditions, etc. I was rather upset that I would have to pay for this. This is clearly a manufacturer defect and, therefore, I want them to incur the cost of repair. It's upsetting that my Nissan dealer won't "simply" do the right thing but they have refused and told me that since it is my car I am responsible.

They lie about their gas mileage claims. I have read multiple reviews online about different models that don't get anywhere near the stated MPG. I noticed this same thing when I got my vehicle 3 years ago and I took the car to the dealer to find out what the problem was. I was told that it was most likely due to the "way I drive the car." While that answer seemed ridiculous I let it go since I didn't think there was anything I could do. Now that I have been reading online about other people this has happened to I have realized that it's time for Nissan owners to file a lawsuit against Nissan. Mitsubishi and Honda owners have already won and settled claims with those manufacturers and I believe it is "more than obvious" that Nissan has also intentionally made false statements regarding gas mileage about their vehicles.

I noticed right away after driving the 2016 Altima when it was raining that the windshield wipers do not clear the windshield properly when it is raining. It seems as if the wipers barely touch the windshield so it does not make it clear for viewing when it is raining and especially when it is raining hard which happened over the holiday weekend. I was scared to death because we could not see. If a bug hits the windshield and is in your line of vision you can't spray it with the windshield cleaner and then use the wiper to clear it off because the wiper will not clear it.

When I had my last oil change at Jack Ingram Nissan in Montgomery, AL, I mentioned it to the serviceman and he said that he has had other complaints but no recalls. I asked him if we replaced the wiper blades if he thought that would help and he said there is not guarantee. This is definitely a road hazard. I have never had this issue with an automobile before. This very well could be an issue that needs to be checked into before someone gets hurt. Thank you for your assistance.

I purchased a 2014 Nissan Altima with 45 miles off the lot. Since my purchase I have been to the service department more times than I care to mention. It has been one thing after another. The first month it was minor issues, such as the radio not working, bluetooth not working. Then it was the dashboard gauges not reading correctly. The radio has been replaced twice and will be replaced again (it is on order). My concern now is the transmission. It was just replaced with a refurbished (but new according to the service department). I am beginning to have the same issues with my car again when accelerating. Now, my air conditioner is not working properly and they are replacing the compressor and sensors.

I have been reading the other concerns people have written about their Altimas and my car is following the same path of major repairs. I have only had my car two years and I am so frustrated to have you be dealing with all these defects. You purchase a brand new car so that you do not have these issues. Do these cars fall under the Lemon Law? How can Nissan be held accountable for these defective cars? Can a class action suit be brought against Nissan, especially if they are aware of the problems and they keep producing and selling these defective cars?

I'm going to be brief with this review but it is very complex as I've been dealing with Nissan Consumer Affairs and the Nissan Dealership. I have experienced the worst customer service of my life and will never buy a Nissan again. I've had my Nissan Altima (2008) for 6 years. I bought it certified new in 2010. Never had any issues before this other than regular maintenance (brake replacement, tire changes, etc.) Last year, while I was still covered under the "extended warranty" I brought it to a local Nissan dealer because of a wheezing noise from the transmission. Nissan dealership changed the fluid in the transmission and said it was fine.

I drove it another year until August 9, 2016 when the car lost power WITHOUT WARNING while I was driving with my infant son. I'll be brief - the transmission completely failed. The CVT transmission is junk. Had it towed from a specialty transmission mechanic who told me this free of charge. Under Nissan's instruction IT HAD to go to a dealership. Dealership wouldn't touch it until I paid them 105$ to "diagnose" it even though I already told them the transmission was crap. So I ended up paying $225.00 for nothing (tow bill + diagnostic fee from Nissan Dealer). Bottom line, Nissan says I'm out of their extended warranty. They refuse to help in any way. Won't return my calls. Nissan dealership basically laughed at my husband when he told them we shouldn't have to pay $105 for the "diagnostic fee."

Apparently, Nissan sent a letter to consumers a few years ago regarding the CVT transmission when they extended the powertrain warranty, but I never received this letter or any notification of the transmission issues when I took it in for routine service. I could have had this issue addressed had Nissan properly notified me of the CVT transmission problem before the mileage exceeded their extended warranty.

Nissan is quite aware with the problems of their transmissions but since there have been no severe fatalities they are not doing the right thing and recalling it. A transmission should last more than 8 years. Luckily, I am a paralegal work for very smart attorneys. We are working on a letter to Nissan and if that doesn't work I will explore my options in small claims court. At the very least they owe me $225 for the tow and the bunk "diagnostic fee". Just another way for Nissan to prey on their customers that they could care less about.

I purchased a used 2006 Nissan Altima with an engine designed to destroy itself. 2 weeks after my purchase, the engine was out of oil. It did this every two weeks or so at first. I contacted Nissan to see about any recall on the engine. They told me my VIN wasn't part of a recall. I contact dealer and they say it was purchased on auction and that there was no way they would know of any issues. I bought it as is. State law protects them from becoming financially responsible for selling a vehicle they don't know about. Nothing I can do.

So a year goes by and I've already spent about what this car is worth just to keep it running. My job is too far away for public transportation, btw. I kept taking it to different mechanics to patch it up and keep it running, they all tell me it needs a new engine. Last mechanic tells me that there was a recall on my VIN for the engine. He knows this because he already has a 2006 Nissan Altima in his shop taken apart that he was fixing. I tell him I contacted Nissan and my VIN isn't part of that. He tells me Nissan doesn't like to pay for recalls and lies to their customers. He prints off the affected VINs and sure enough, my VIN is on the paper.

I call Nissan back and demand to know if the recall had been corrected, they tell me again there was no recall or campaign open on my vehicle. I direct them to NHTSA.gov and tell them that there is public record. The Philippine lady on the phone then says, "Okay, there was a recall on your vehicle in 2006, but it was corrected in 2007 sir." Then I ask to dispute that the problem actually was corrected. She argued that the computer said it was, and by now my car is eating 5qts of oil a week and has already seized once, so I know it isn't. She finally tells me to take it to a dealership for inspection. I go to the dealership at 8:00am and was told sales opens at 9:00am and to come back later. Good thing I'm not buying (Side note, sign on door says sales opens at 8:00am).

I explain the situation and he tells me that he is sales and not his area of knowledge. I ask where I should go and he tells me service. Okay, where's service at? I ask and he finally directs me around the back of the building. I drop my keys off, livid at the customer "service" they provided (not the mechanics, they were nice), and I leave for work. I later get a call from the mechanic asking for a case number which I don't have. He then tells me that I should have called Nissan first. I tell him that I did. So I call Nissan back to get a case number and they put me through the whole fiasco again. At one point the lady on the phone asks me why I took it to the dealership! She asked when I had purchased the car and I told her a year ago. she said, "A year ago...?", I replied yes, one year ago. Then she says "sir, just to be clear you purchased this vehicle a year ago?", I reply, "yeah".

She then promptly tells me that she will be handing this case off to a specialist and she gave me my case number, I then verify that this is the case number I give to the mechanic who requested it. She tells me not to give the mechanic the case number and I hang up and call the dealership mechanic and gave him the case number, while on the phone he tells me that my engine didn't look like it had the recall corrected "which I had talked about". The dealership mechanic is telling me that the engine is junk, and that it was his opinion that the recall wasn't done on this vehicle. I asked what the recall would be, he tells me an engine replacement.

So finally, a few days later, a specialist contacts me to tell me that the engine was replaced fully in 2007. I tell him the engine the vehicle currently has is garbage. Apparently, an engine designed to burn oil until the piston rings are useless causing an engine seizure after hundreds of dollars in lost oil is one of Nissan's "A+" standards. He tells me that he will investigate further and contact the dealership to ask questions. The other thing he will do is look into "Goodwill Assistance" to see what they can give me to help me out. He will contact me in 2-3 business days.

The next day he calls me tells me that they are willing to do absolutely nothing about the engine since it is like 60 something months out of warranty. I ask about the Goodwill Assistance, he tells me I get no Goodwill Assistance. I call the mechanic and ask him about it. He asks me if I've ever owned a Nissan before. I tell him this is my first, and last Nissan I will ever buy. He tells me Goodwill Assistance is meant for dedicated customers. So I ask about the engine and he said it was junk, and that the warranty was only 30 months past. (Side Note: it seems the least paid people in this company know what's going on the most).

It's a shame that the knowledgeable mechanic that can verify what every mechanic has told me about the car can't do anything for me because he is just a mechanic. He told me he would look into what the Nissan dealership (not Nissan Company, they're separate somehow) would give me for a buy back. I still owe more than what this car is worth and Nissan has given me the longest runaround of my life. Worse, is the guy who originally bought the car, at the dealership that I got the car from, actually passed away from old age. My fiance talked me into this car and it's put a huge strain on our relationship, our finances, our ability to even get to work, and more.

Nissan is garbage, their customer service is garbage. I've never had car problems like this in my life. I had to buy another car to get to work, couldn't trade the Nissan in as that would add the monthly bill to the new monthly bill and I would be stuck paying one large consolidated bill. The engine is ready to either seize again, or catch fire. As of now, I owe $5,000 on a fancy lawn decoration that can make large clouds of oil burning exhaust. What am I supposed to do? I can actually, honestly, and truthfully say that my biggest life mistake was buying a Nissan. Please for the love of God, don't make the same mistake I did.

Took the car to the dealer and the sales mgr said that's how CVT works. Shaking my head I pushed the issue and I had system reset. Worked for a bit, but continued to see erratic idling at different speeds when holding with cruise control. Took it to three other dealers in three other states, could not find the issue or at least could not duplicate. Seems a master certified tech wasn't able to see the issue either. Noticed roughness when holding at 50mph at times.

Well here I am tonight 88k miles later and tranny is slipping on inclines. Reverse doesn't hold - I roll forward. Dumb experience from the get go. Reading the info about the auto transmission just makes it worse. Seems like the quick fix would be to blow you off and tell you that "We 'reset' the system" and have you wait an hour. The warranty is weak to start, only 36,000 miles Nissan has faith in. I should have taken that as the biggest flag ever. Let's hobble this thing into the dealer to see what they can't do for it. I anticipate they will take my description and say "Sounds like the transmission is bad" and suggest a replacement. Hmmm... I think I will tell them it loses power and makes a engine noise besides that electrical whine. Let's see how they diagnose that.

On February 22, 2014, we purchased a 2013 Nissan Altima. This was our very first purchase after emerging from bankruptcy. On my husband's way to work, May 27, 2016, the car simply stopped running while on a major highway. Luckily, he was able to glide onto a nearby side street otherwise he could have been killed.

My husband is a former mechanic for the US Marine Corp and instantly knew it was a transmission failure. The car was towed to College Park Nissan and after further evaluation, his suspicion was confirmed. The total cost of the repair is estimated to be $4,200. I asked the service advisor if the car showed any signs of unusual wear and tear or had been driven rough, and he replied "no"; it was an unknown transmission failure but was also a known issue with CVT transmissions. Then, we were initially told the part would be in on Tuesday, May 31st, and later found out that the part was on a national backorder for an unknown period of time! So, now we have an additional cost of a rental car for an unknown period of time on top of our monthly car payment for a car that we can't even drive!

After doing more research on this matter, I later find out that this truly is a known issue with Nissan across many of their brands, including Pathfinder, Rogue, Altima, and Sentra. I even found a class action lawsuit filed against your company on the 2013-2014 Pathfinder, which has the CVT transmission technology (the same technology used on my Altima). I also discovered on YOUR OWN WEBSITE that you've implemented a customer satisfaction program to address this issue. In the case of my car, you doubled the warranty period for the transmission in all Model Year 2003-2010 models with CVT. The existing powertrain warranty coverage of 5 years/60,000 miles will be extended at no cost, for CVT repairs, replacements or related towing, to 10 years/120,000 miles, whichever comes first.

My car is a 2013 Altima with a CVT transmission, has had the same if not worse experiences of the earlier models, yet I still have the burden of the cost + a horrible 12/12,000 warranty on the part that is likely to still be defective? Needless to say, we are not happy. This is our first Nissan purchase and it will likely be our last. With all the costs mounting up for this one repair, we potentially could be in a position of investing more than 25% of the total cost of what we paid for the car.

When I called Nissan's ConsumerAffairs Division, a young lady by the name of Megan followed up with me. She informed me that Nissan would be willing to provide only $1,000 towards the cost of the repair. Though I'm grateful and accepted, I'm afraid it's simply not enough. I've had cars (Honda, Toyota, Dodge) that have lasted over 200k miles with no transmission issues. I've even had a transmission re-built for under $2500! While I appreciate the advancement in technology, it's simply too cost prohibitive when something like this arises.

The only reason I bought a Nissan is because of its excellent reputation for reliability and performance. The fact that there is a national back order on the transmission itself, coupled with the fact that we were told there were a couple additional cars that came in over the Memorial Day weekend, with the same problem leads me to believe that this is a serious problem. Your reputation and brand is already in question so, I would like to think that to avoid costly litigation and further damage to your brand, you would make this right for your customers, voluntarily.

While I'm sure Nissan will do the right thing, failure to rectify to my satisfaction will force me to reach out to local and national media and file suit in addition to the Pathfinder one. Since that one already has class action status, I'm sure it won't be difficult to obtain class action status for your other models. My desired resolution is for Nissan to fully reimburse me for the total cost of the repair (within 14 days of this notice), including any additional car rental fees I will incur since your product was on a national back order. I also am requesting a 10 year/120,000 warranty on this transmission as was offered for the earlier model vehicles as I am not confident that the new transmission will hold up, and I'll be faced with another $4,200 repair in the 13th month.

2005 Nissan Altima, 2.5s 4 cyl. - I have been having problems starting the car on the first attempt. It doesn't happen every time, but frequently. The car will mainly start at the 3rd attempt after turning the key. I have had this ongoing problem for many years now. When the problem first started (years back), I was told at the dealer service department that they needed to reset a sensor that was behind the motor every time the oil change was performed. I noticed that the problem would stop once the oil change was done. Now, the problem doesn't stop after the oil changes. I search for a possible recall on this, but there is no recall from Nissan regarding this vehicle, yet, there are many owners with this same kind of vehicle that are having the same problem I am. Why is this not a recall??? Why isn't Nissan taking responsibility when it's not just a small number of vehicles having this issue???

The other problem I am having right now with my car is that it has started to jerk a bit and it feels like it's going to stall when driving, especially when the car stops at a red light. When this problem started, it was not often at all. I couldn't figure out what it was then. Now it's happening frequently. Aside of the jerking of the car and feeling that it will stall at any time, now the "service engine soon" light came on blinking. Once I drove the car faster, the blinking SES light went off. I plugged in the obd2 reader and it read that one coil was bad, P0302. It also read P0420 related to the cat converter. I had a mechanic replaced the coil that was bad according to the report on the obd2. I still had the same problem, but now it didn't read the code P0420. It read another code P0301, which is another coil.

That coil was replaced too and the valve cover gasket since there was some oil in the coils mentioned above due to the fact that the seals on the valve cover gasket were in bad shape. I can't remember when, but not that long ago, at the dealer they did some work on the valve gasket because of a problem they found there. I did notice that they had sealed the valve head casket with gray silicone. I need to look for that information and the date since I do keep all of my paperwork regarding the work performed on my vehicle at the dealer service dept. Once that was done and oil was cleaned out, the car still did the same thing and even more often. I had the spark plugs replaced as well, but the problem continues. Again, the obd2 reader gives me codes for the coils.

Another mechanic told me that it can be a fuel injector that is not working properly. Before this happened (just yesterday May 29, 2016) I had taken the car to the dealer service department on May 14, 2016 for an oil change and for gas charge for the AC system. I did mentioned the problem I was having with the car. They installed BG engine cleaner cpr #109, drained engine oil and replaced it with factory engine oil and quantity add BG moa to crankcase. They also performed BG evaporator cleaning service.

I was recommended a Fuel Pump Assembly, meaning that this service was important because it could cause something to the car. I noticed that after 2 weeks of the performed above services, my car started jerking and feeling like it's going to stall at any time and the light SES comes on blinking. I will be taking it to the dealer service dept. tomorrow. I have a feeling that something went wrong when they performed the engine oil change service. I wonder how many more people, owner's of the same vehicle are having this same problem???

We bought a 2009 Altima four years ago, I loved the car at first, although there was a tiny sticky spot on the dash that I was unable to clean off. Six months later, more of the dash was sticky, now the whole dash is just tar. I have to keep a black hand towel on the dash to drive the car without being blinded from the glare. I just noticed it's cracking everywhere now also.

On top of that, every time it rains I have inches of water inside of the car. I researched this problem and found out that Nissan is aware of these problems and they are due to substandard materials used in the manufacturing. I have contacted Nissan locally and their corporate division. They are completely unwilling to offer a recall or fix any issues at all despite the very real and apparent safety issue. Very recently I noticed a "sloshing" sound upon accelerating and decelerating, I rode as a passenger last week and as I opened the passenger door, I heard the liquid noise again. My son opened some little drains he found on the base of the door and about 2 gallons of water drained out of the passenger door!!!

We will never, I reiterate NEVER buy anything else from Nissan. Period, and I truly hope that everyone who reads these reviews will seriously take into consideration that Nissan refuses to stand by their product. Other car manufacturers also used the defective dashboards in their vehicles, but unlike Nissan, they are recalling their product and replacing the defective materials.

What is most concerning is that when speaking to the Service group at the local Nissan dealership, I asked if there was a known problem with Torque Converters on these vehicles and whether Nissan had addressed it internally. He stated, "not with a recall or notice to customers but yes, service updates and troubleshooting procedures were sent out due to a higher failure rate than normal." Where is the oversight? If there is a higher rate of failure than normal why is no consumer disclosure required? 5K in repairs, full Torque Converter & Transmission replacement required at 70K miles.

Nissan refused to replace mine because it is out of warranty. They are currently involved in a Class Action suit that goes to trial this summer. This is not an isolated problem. There are many reports of the 2008 and 2009 years with this issue. It is truly a safety problem. The dash gets so shiny that when driving into the sun you cannot see.

Nissan as well as the other Japanese auto makers are fully aware of the substandard dashboards. Toyota stepped up and extended the warranty on both the Toyota and Lexus brands. Nissan refuses to do anything unless they lose the class action suit and even then I fully expect them to drag their feet. The dealer I took my car to for the inspection wished me luck but basically said Nissan Corporate will do nothing to help you. Shortly after we purchased this, I noticed my car would start to shudder when I would go around corners or have to slow down then regain speed. It has also happened while driving down the highway at 65-70 mph. I mentioned this multiple times to my dealership when I would take it in for my oil change but they have told me every time that it is nothing and they can't seem to find a problem. I spoke with an employee who said try calling Nissan Consumer Affairs.

I called and opened a case. Received a call the next day from this lady that tells me she has done some research and that there is nothing wrong with my car, that is how the CVT transmission works. I asked her why it didn't do that in the beginning and she couldn't answer that. I also asked her about all the reports I have found on the same issue and her response was that it is based on the VIN and nothing showed for my car. And for the fact that the Maxima for this time frame have not had any issues, makes me question as to why Nissan will not take any responsibility for the hundreds of complaints across this nation with the same issue! It is obvious that it is a manufacturer issue over "mother nature". This is very disappointing for a long time Nissan customer. Well, at 3,000 miles and 3 months of driving it, I am extremely disappointed. It did not start first thing in the morning 6x in 2 months, it has a continuous dentist drill noise under the hood, you can feel a vibration on the steering wheel/floor/accelerator/brake, the airbag light comes off/on whether someone is in the passenger seat or not, the car keeps wandering to the left side, radio speaker popped up since day 1 like it needs to be glued down, and it is so noisy. I keep checking to see if I have a window open!

I regret this purchase 100%! This car is like driving a diesel truck! It is unreliable! It is not safe! Nissan replaced my power steering pump at one month and it still makes noise and the steering wheel still vibrates. In 2014 I purchased a brand new 2013 Nissan Altima SL. I serviced the car regularly, enjoyed the comfortable ride and great gas mileage. From the very beginning the car made a growling sound when you step on the gas... I was assured that it was normal and didn't think anything of it until recently. Two weeks ago at 64,000 miles the car started to jerk and shake at low speeds then finally stalling out at stoplights.

I brought it into the dealership for diagnostics and after 3 hours I was told there was no problem detected and the service people could not replicate the issue. Two days later the car's RPM gauge was dropping for no apparent reason even on the freeway. I took it back into the dealership, did a test drive with the service man and confirmed a problem with the transmission.

Unfortunately, I didn't purchase the extended warranty. I learned recently, this is a well-known issue with Nissan's continuous variable transmission (CVT) and the dealer didn't even have the decency to tell me about it. I was 4,000 miles over the 60,000 mile factory warranty and as a result the $4200 repair was all on me! I called consumer affairs for Nissan... No help there... My claim was denied by a person who couldn't be bothered more. I was told there was no appeal process and that her decision was final.

Maybe I'm naive, but I never thought Nissan with a net worth of over $100 Billion would treat their customers like this! I have wasted hours of my life over the past 4 days while my car sits at the dealership in need of a new transmission. Step up Nissan and recall this issue... It cost $250 each time to have this done at the Nissan dealership. That is a total of 4 changes and $1000. Now with 159,650 miles on the car my transmission has to be replaced because the stepper motor inside it has gone bad. This new transmission installed is $4200! I have been informed by the dealership that Nissan will only warranty the new Nissan transmission 12 months or 12,000 miles which in my opinion is totally unacceptable!!

Consumers please read this carefully, this is a very objective review and based on my actual experience with Nissan. Recently my 2011 Altima Hybrid (purchased new) all of a sudden shut down while I was driving, and would not start. My vehicle was disabled in the middle of an exit ramp, at night, during a major snowstorm, and I had to call for a tow truck. The next day I had it towed to the dealership where it took 24 hours for them to recharge the Hybrid battery in order to perform the diagnostic test. A couple of days later, I received a follow up call from the dealership informing me that the onboard computer went bad, and had to be replaced. Along with the associated coils and spark plugs, at the cost of $1.7k. My vehicle had approximately 48k miles on it??? So when I inquired about the warranty and defective parts, I was told they're not covered outside of 36k miles???

Needless to say I'm not happy about this and feel this is a RELIABILITY issue that Nissan should fix and stand behind their products. My vehicle has been very well maintained and only used for commuting back and forth to work locally. To have it suddenly shut down on me in the middle of a busy highway without any warning, "no dashboard lights, or other indicators," is totally UNACCEPTABLE. Also having to wait a full 4 days just to get this information is again totally unacceptable. At this point I feel Nissan will lose what would have been a loyal customer, if this issue is not resolved, and I have to dish out 1.7k.

Initially I was told the problem was with my ECM however, when I picked up my vehicle today, I was told it was related to an issue with the "IPDM." Essentially some sort of controller issue that caused the vehicle to shut down suddenly and not start again. When I inquired about the work that had been performed, I was told that the IPDM was "refurbished" as opposed to being a new part. For the record, this information came from both ** (service manager), and ** (general manager). As well, the refurbished IPDM comes with a 12k, or 12 month warranty (totally UNACCEPTABLE). I was charged for the disposal of hazardous materials $49.99 however, wasn't aware of this and was not able to see the old parts that were replaced.

I also inquired about retrieving copies of the "extended warranty" I purchased and was informed by both Bryan **, and Mike ** that "Nissan's policy" restricts the dealership from providing that information (totally unacceptable). The total out of pocket expense to pick up my vehicle is $1,922.94 (invoice number ** - Antwerpen Nissan of Owings Mills).

Needless to say, I feel mislead, cheated, not valued as, or treated as customer! This is totally a RELIABILITY issue and Nissan needs to resolve this by standing behind their products! How can a computer go bad with under 50k miles on my vehicle? How can the dealership not provide me with my extended warranty? How can the dealership keep my vehicle for almost a week, and provide me with inaccurate diagnostic information, and then bill me for something either completely different or associated with the reliability issue?

I would advise anyone looking for a new vehicle NOT to even consider Nissan! They do not stand behind their products, they are unprofessional to deal with, from the local management team to the corporate case managers, and leadership! I for one plan to share this with every social media platform, consumer agency, and everyone I come in contact with! My husband has a 2007 Toyota Camry with 150k miles on it, and it's still running like a charm! That will be one of my considerations in the next 6 months! Bye for good Nissan!!!

Last Saturday (2/13/16) I took my car in to get the back brakes and rotors done and they also did the recall on the hood latch. Left the dealership and made it home cut off the car for about 10 minutes and when I come back to start it up and put the car in gear (reverse) to back out of the yard it CUTS off. Finally the next day it started and went into gear with no problem, so I took it to the dealership on Monday and it did fine but when I got to the dealership and I tell them how it was acting they said "we can't do anything because it didn't pass a code."

So I left there and went to my friend's daughter's home, after getting ready to leave from there and I put my car in reverse and it cuts off. Drove the car to work the next day (1hr and 30 minute drive) and on the way there the car gave me no problem but on my way from work guess what? it starts again: at the stop sign it just cut off; finally got in the highway drove through the 1st red light but had to stop for the next red light and it cut off again. I had to be pushed to the side of the road when a young man cleaned off my battery post because they were corroded bad and he disconnected the battery and reconnected it back to reset the computer.

He asked me to start it up and put in drive and the car stayed running until I made it about 20 more miles and at the next red light it stopped again. Had to call a tow truck to come and get it. This is a very dangerous thing Nissan. I thought I had found a reliable car because I drive 75 miles daily on the highway, but not so. I would not recommend this car to anyone. Less than 2 years of having it and less than 35,000 miles, the car would not move when I pushed on the gas when the light changed while driving in the city, and would shudder and shake. It was towed to a dealership and is still there 4 weeks later. At first their systems couldn't detect an error, then they told me it was just the valve, and now when the part finally arrived and the issues remained, they are telling me the whole transmission has to be replaced with a remanufactured transmission. Best part: it doesn't come with a new warranty.

I've read about class actions with other models, some of which are still pending. I'd like to get one going for the Altimas. I read about just one dealership having over 40 Altimas brought in for the same issue and have read that many replaced transmission end up failing again, even in the middle of driving. I am absolutely terrified to drive my car, but owe $5k more than it's currently worth. I never imagined I'd have issues like this with a brand new car - it's why I bought one! Now I am stuck with a huge financial loss and a moving death trap with a time bomb strapped to it that could fail me again at any moment, and Nissan allegedly knows about the issue. I saved for a long time, drove my town and country until it had over 300,000 miles on it to get my dream car. Got a fully loaded Nissan Altima silver in color. Since owning it I've had to fight to get my transmission replaced. Finally got it covered by Nissan after finding out on my own that the factory extended the warranty due to defective parts. Now, my clear coat is coming off in huge patches, my passenger airbag comes off and on by itself. Talk to customer service...it's my problem!!! Thanks Nissan.

2013 Altima with 30000 km (20000 miles). It is a v6 3.5 SL with technology package. I thought those cars should be bulletproof. Not really. Transmission chattering issue. Nissan did reprogram few times and it doesn't seem to make a difference. At low speeds I feel chattering and car shaking like it had fuel shortage and it's about to die. Then at 30000 km there was some knocking noise coming from motor. Took it to the dealer and they told me it's one of the lower bearings, and the engine needs to be replaced. It's been in the garage for 2 weeks now. I'm lucky car is still under warranty and it won't cost me but I'm worry if I'm having those serious problems.

Now what will happen when car reaches 100k and the warranty runs out. Apparently those CVT transmissions don't last and I read that some people had Nissan to replace them several times for the same issue. I love the car, especially the interior finish and comfort, but this car seem to have major issues outweighing good things about the car. Unfortunately I would not buy another Nissan. Car would be a 5 stars if not for transmission issues (and motor for me) however I'll have to give it one.

The number of recalls on this vehicle has made it very costly for us. We live 4.5 hours away from the closest Nissan dealer. There have been at least 5 recall which has cost us a weekend away from home, money for hotel and meals. This last recall for the module to be reset was just done Jan. 25th however when I got to the dealership 4.5 hours away, I was told there was a 2nd recall on the hood latch. The first time we drove in for that one, they greased it. Now we have to go back to have it replaced. They didn't have the part Jan. 25th as the recall was new. So another trip in and more money for poor quality. I've had rotors and break pads replaced when 90% of my driving is highway. There is rust on the trunk of a 2 year old vehicle. We paid for paint protector and in the fine print states it's only 2 year from time of purchase not from the time the factory warranty is up.

In November a customers officer inspecting my car called me out to show me that my battery was completely corroded and that I should get it fixed quickly as I wouldn't want to get stuck on the highway. I had it replaced immediately at a local service station. It had to be done. Now Nissan won't reimburse me for the battery. As for the rust--nothing. No warranty for the rotors or break pads on a 2 year old vehicle. I'm pretty fed up with all the repairs necessary on this "new" vehicle. I was told by the service manager that I should have contacted a dealership regarding the battery. And then what--risk driving 4.5 hours to have them replace it? The car is nice looking and the gas mileage is good. That's where it ends! I would never buy another Nissan, nor recommend it. Very poor quality in building of this car. Shame on Nissan!

I bought a brand new 2013 Nissan Altima and every 50K miles I have had to replace the transmission 3 times. Twice the transmission failed on the interstate and could have caused me to wreck. The other time the torque converter locked in and I could not drive the vehicle. I thought that I was unlucky the first two times but the last replacement was for the same reason as the first replacement. My Altima is dangerous because I do a lot of highway driving and I don't know when it could fail again.

Lots of problems have happened since I have purchased Nissan Altima. Every month I ended up going to Mechanic shop to fix something. Worst thing happened yesterday and I couldn't stop myself of writing bad reviews about Nissan everywhere. I was driving on the road around 55 miles per hour and in the middle of the road car suddenly stopped. I just came to know it's a transmission failure and cost to fix this is $3000 plus. Please don't buy Nissan cars, lots of people are complaining about transmission failures with Nissan cars.

I took my 2013 Nissan Altima Coupe in for it's routine oil change and tire rotation. I ask them to please balance the tires when they rotate. I was told that this is a $39.00 charge even though I have an extended warranty. After they where done with the car and test drove the car, I paid my bill and left. As I pulled out of the dealership, the car was making a roaring noise and front in had a shake. I immediately turned around and took the car back. It was not doing this when I brought it in...

After having to leave the car overnight, I was told that it had a bad hub bearing and that the tires on the rear had dry rotten! They replaced the hub bearing and gave me prices for new tires. The car has 56,000 miles... When they first let me leave, no word about problems with my tires until I brought it back. I even have the voicemail from the service manager that says my tires are unsafe and have dry rotted! I drive this car everyday and have owned it 3 years, you should be able to tell that by the mileage. How do tires dry rot when the car is not sitting parked for months? Did they put old tires on this car before I purchased it?

I purchased my 2013 Nissan Altima in May 2015 with 43000 miles on it. At 52000 my transmission went out. I was confused because I never dreamed of buying a practically new car and have transmission problems. It was still under warranty so I didn't have to pay. Now with 61000 afraid it's starting to do the same thing. Sometimes it idles really high while driving and shutters and drives rough. I travel a lot and I'm so afraid that something will happen while I'm on the road. This is my dream car but right now I wish I would've NEVER bought this car. I just pray that nothing else happens. If it does I hope it's before my warranty expires at 85000 miles. I wouldn't recommend buying a car with a cvt transmission and that also came from a mechanic that works at Nissan.

I bought a brand new 2012 Nissan Altima in March of 2012. I have always taken my car back to Nissan for every service needed. I have did every service that recommended for this car at the mileage. Around 70,000 I was driving from NC to KY and I began to lose power as I was driving up the mountain going the speed going from 70 to 40 and to merge to the right lane and put my hazard lights which was dangerous with tractor trailer trucks. As declined the mountain I regained speed but as I leveled off I lost speed and the pedal was to the floor.

At this time no engine light or anything appeared on the dash, I pulled off to the nearest Nissan after I GPS it in TN. They said it sounds like the transmission, I was livid at this point with so little miles. I said, "Ok, how about a flush." so that is what we did. As time I went on I did not have that experience again until another year while driving the highway, I blew it off thinking it was bad gas because once I had stopped the car and cut it off and cut back on the problem was gone. In total it has done this 3 more times until now 12/26/15 coming from KY to NC same thing lost power going up the mountain pulled off cut the car off cut it only this time the service engine light soon came and stayed on, which scared me because a single woman traveling with 3 children for the holidays.

Well I made it home but Monday I called out of work on 12/28, took it to Nissan and what do you know they say? "Ma'am do you have the extended warranty because the computer codes all came back reading 'You need a new transmission and the cost is $4,400.'" I said, "No, I do not. Is this common for a 3 year old car with 16,000 miles to need a new transmission that you guys did all the service to?". All requirements that you recommended including scheduled flushes etc. no one could answer that. I thought Nissan's stood behind quality as good as Hondas and Toyotas but they don't. I have seen those cars with a lot more miles and never need transmissions so guess what I will be trading my Nissan in for something else. I will never buy a Nissan or refer another person to a Nissan again.
