MasterTech could be a good option if you own an old or high-mileage car. The company offers plenty of plans and coverage options to choose from compared to other companies like it. However, you can only purchase coverage through a dealership at the time of purchase and you must pay attention to what is and isn’t covered before selecting a plan.

Founded in 2015 with headquarters in Brazil, MasterTech is an extended auto warranty company providing standard and GAP coverage with extra supplemental plans. MasterTech is not a direct provider, but rather an administrator that partners with dealerships across the country and parts of Canada to offer plans when purchasing a new or used vehicle. Since it sells through dealerships, you may have to check with the dealer for specific warranty information since coverage plans vary per person.

MasterTech plans are only available through dealerships. This means you will have to purchase coverage through one of its primary and supplemental plans when you purchase your vehicle. MasterTech partners with dealerships nationwide and offers coverage in Canada.

MasterTech offers three programs that are broken down into tiers or more coverage options. Their Vehicle Protection Program operates as an extended auto warranty for vehicle owners who want coverage with one of the five available plan options:

• Primary
• Premier
• Elite
• Ultra
• Ultra Plus

Meanwhile, its Debt Protection program includes GAP coverage. This program states it can cover up to $50,000 in GAP coverage for new and pre-owned vehicles valued at or financed up to $125,000.

MasterTech’s Ancillary Complete Protection program helps cover repairs for common areas not usually covered in a standard extended auto warranty — like the windshield, exterior, tires, wheels, and other areas. This program has four tiers to choose from:

• Primary: Covers key replacements
• Premier: Covers key replacements and windshields
• Elite: Covers key replacements, windshields, and dent repair
• Ultra: Covers key replacements, windshields, dent repair, and road hazards

MasterTech coverage limits

MasterTech does not disclose how it limits payouts on its website, but policyholders are responsible for paying all diagnostic, tear-down, and repair charges that do not meet contract requirements. When you begin shopping, your representative should provide details on payout limits per plan so you can choose one with the best coverage for your needs.

MasterTech doesn’t provide price quotes for its plans, so we were unable to get estimates for our sample vehicles. To find out what a MasterTech plan might cost you, contact your local dealership for a quote. You can choose a monthly payment plan for your coverage or pay it in full at the time of signing.

MasterTech also does not disclose its deductibles. However, the company does offer you the flexibility of choosing your deductible amount.

On top of its repair coverage, MasterTech offers extra benefits, but it doesn’t specify the limits of these perks publicly.

MasterTech does not disclose information pertaining to purchase eligibility for its plans, so you will have to speak to your dealer about the requirements and the limits for each plan. However, the company does advertise that all plans are transferable (for a fee).

There is a 60-day waiting period for all plans, and, according to its website, MasterTech will issue a full refund if you cancel your plan within the 60 days as long as no claim has been filed. Should you ever need to cancel your plan, you must cancel it in writing and send the letter to your dealer along with the mileage on your vehicle at time of cancellation.
