Jeep Compass extended warranty coverage options

Jeep Compass owners can get extended warranty coverage through FlexCare, formerly Mopar Vehicle Protection, and there are three plans to choose from:

• Extended Care: This base-level plan acts similarly to a powertrain warranty but with some added protection. It covers 86 components, including your Jeep’s engine, transmission and drivetrain, your key fob, and some parts related to the steering mechanism and the AC system.
• Extended Care Plus: This tier covers more than 800 components. It includes everything in the lower-level plan, plus parts of the braking and electrical systems, power motors for windows and seats, and the front suspension system.
• Extended Care Premium: This is the most comprehensive plan, and it effectively extends the bumper-to-bumper coverage you get with a new Compass. Extended Care Premium covers more than 5,000 components, including everything from the previous tiers, plus the rear suspension, most parts of the braking and electrical systems, safety systems, the body and more.

Jeep Compass extended warranty bonuses and additional coverage

Regardless of the coverage tier you choose, your FlexCare extended warranty will include some additional benefits:

• Roadside assistance: You can access 24-hour roadside assistance. Up to $100 per occurrence can go toward towing, tire changes, battery jumpstarts, gas delivery (up to two gallons) and/or lockout services.
• Courtesy car: Any same-day dealership repair that’s covered by your warranty includes up to a $45 allowance for a car rental or taxi service. Covered multi-day repairs include up to $45 per day toward a rental car or taxi service, with a maximum coverage amount of $175 per occurrence.
• Trip interruption protection: If a covered issue interrupts a long-distance trip and your Jeep breaks down more than 100 miles from home, you get up to $1,000 to go toward lodging, meals and car rental services.
• Key fob repair/replacement: Each plan also includes up to $600 for key fob repair or replacement, or up to three instances of repair/replacement, whichever comes first. This includes coverage for lost keys.

You can also enroll in the FlexCare Advantage warranty package if you have one of the plans above and want to extend coverage even further. You can enroll if your Compass is newer than 11 years old and has fewer than 140,000 miles. FlexCare Advantage extends coverage to 15 years or 160,000 miles, whichever comes first.

Jeep Compass extended warranty exclusions

Some exclusions are built into vehicle service contracts. These are standard among extended car warranties, but you should be aware of them before purchasing coverage. Items not covered by your Jeep Compass’ extended warranty include:

• Preexisting issues
• Damages caused by continued operation after a problem
• Anything that should be covered by another warranty
• Issues related to alterations or modifications
• Problems resulting from a lack of proper maintenance
• Damage to covered components caused by non-covered components
• Consumable items, such as spark plugs, brake pads and battery cables
• Tires, trim, sheet metal and other body components

Jeep Compass factory warranty vs. extended warranty

The Jeep Compass factory warranty covers certain vehicle parts and components for up to three years or 36,000 miles, whichever comes first. This is a bumper-to-bumper warranty with coverage similar to what you’d get from the FlexCare Extended Care Premium warranty. Coverage is for new vehicles only and begins at the start of ownership.

There is some additional coverage beyond the bumper-to-bumper warranty, as well:

• Powertrain limited warranty: This powertrain warranty covers your engine, transmission and drivetrain for five years or 60,000 miles, whichever comes first.
• Corrosion limited warranty: This covers corrosion on exterior panels for five years with no mileage constraints and all panels for three years with no mileage constraints.
• Plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV) battery warranty: This covers PHEV batteries for up to eight years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first. Jeep has announced that future Compass model years will be available as hybrids, PHEVs and full EVs, so this coverage may apply in future years.
• Federal emission warranty and emission performance warranty: This guarantees compliance for two years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. Certain components have coverage up to eight years or 80,000 miles, whichever comes first.
• California emission warranty: Similar to the federal emission warranty, this guarantees compliance for three years or 50,000 miles, whichever comes first, and for seven years or 70,000 miles for certain components, whichever comes first.

If you’re considering purchasing an extended warranty for your Jeep Compass, pay close attention to the manufacturer’s warranty, which lasts for three years or 36,000 miles. All FlexCare warranties are only available if you enroll before that factory warranty expires. You may pay added fees if you enroll after one year or 12,000 miles on a new Compass.

Jeep Compass extended warranty cost factors

FlexCare doesn’t provide pricing on its site, so the only way to get an accurate estimate is to go to a certified dealer or call FlexCare directly at 1-866-818-9929. However, some dealership websites within the Chrysler-Jeep-Dodge-Ram family provide average pricing for the different tiers:

• Extended Care: $1,400 to $2,800
• Extended Care Plus: $2,000 to $3,300
• Extended Care Premium: $2,800 to $4,500

These prices are similar to what you might expect if you purchase a third-party extended warranty, which averages between $1,800 and $5,000.

The actual price you’ll pay for your Jeep Compass extended warranty depends on multiple factors, including:

• Plan choice: The biggest cost factor is the plan tier you choose. More comprehensive coverage always costs more; the bumper-to-bumper Extended Care Premium plan potentially costs about twice as much as the lowest tier, which is similar to a powertrain warranty.
• Plan length: Another major factor is the length of the coverage you want to add. You can extend coverage up to eight years or 125,000 miles, whichever comes first, but longer-term plans cost more.
