I am having problems getting my key to turn in the ignition of my 2000 Ford Focus. I have been stranded in the cold, fortunatly I figured out if I kept banging the key with my hand it eventually turned. Now, everytime I get in my car I have to sit there banging the key with my hand for as long as it takes. At first it only locked now and then. I'm realizing now this is a problem I'm going to have to fix. Came online to research what it may be and I see it's a common Focus problem. I can't believe with all of these complaints Ford is not recalling!!! I'm not a happy Ford customer!
My hand is swollen from banging on the key so many times last night!!!

My wife was about to leave for work yesterday when she honked the horn for me. I went to the garage and she said she couldn't start her car. When I got in to start the car, the key wouldn't budge in the ignition. We have owned this car for one year, she has had this problem once before at the Post Office about six months ago but was finally able to start the car after about 30 minutes.
It appears after reading many of these complaints and speaking with other people with the Ford Focus, something needs to be done and soon. My wife and I have decided to fix the ignition, sell the car and buy something more reliable.
I'm not sure how much this will cost me but I'm sure it is more than I should be paying. I shouldn't be in the situation in the first place. We were affected by this because I had to take time off from my work to take my wife to work, I will have to pay to have the car towed, and the mechanic to fix it.

I use to be able to jiggle the key or the steering wheel now I have just spent 3 hrs trying to fix it and it is useless. NEVER BUY A FORD FOCUS!!! It has been nothing but trouble. We have spent more fixing the car than we did when we bought it.

my wife and i have ahve the focus for about 4 years now and i have had several problems with the car the tires seem to wear out really quick i have had 2 different places allign the car and still no good the hatch button doesnt work most of the time and the stereo goes in and out when it wants to but the worst problem of all is the motor stalls and jumps and studders expecially the first time you start it in the morning.
when you hit the brakes a little to hard the car dies i had a mechanic shop look at this and the diagnostic ($80) said the egr valve ($70) and the egr pressure regulator ($100)was bad so i had them fixed after driving the car for a day are so it stated doing it again so i told the shop the did a free diagnostic test again and the test came out good but the car is still dieing and stop signs red light and sometimes you have to rev it up several times in the morning to keep it running i have now bought an air idle controll valve ($90) which i plan on putting on today hopfully this will work i have not had any problems with the ignition but who is too say i wont the car only has 80,000 mile right now and i hate it i have had to let my wife drive my chevy pickup to work everal times now so i can work on her car.
i will neve4r own another ford again if something isnt done about this soon recall the whole car i dont care anymore i had a honda for 3 years and when i got rid of it it had 350,000 miles on it and it still ran better than this focus.(recall)(recall)
this car has cost me like 500 dollars in the last month replacing the egr valve, egr regulator, plug wires, plugs, air idle controll valve and still not running right

I have several incidents where my the steering column on my car locked up and I was left stranded trying to unlock it with my key. For several of those incidents, I was accompanied with my two children (7 and 4). I have had to leave my car parked for days until I got lucky enough to get it unlocked, had someone else unlock it for me, or even have the entire care moved.
I'm driving a Ford Focus because I meant to pay an inexpensive car note but this is ridiculous. I have seen the many counts of testimonies on the internet of other owners having to deal with the same problem and I've also had friends who went through the same experience. One of my friends told me he had to get the ignition changed out for $250 and have the key replaced for $85 not to mention towing charges. Ford told him that that the key had become worn through regular use, but the car wasn't even 2 years old yet.
This wasn't covered under warranty. Then shortly after that he had to change the ignition again for a similar problem. Currently, my car is parked somewhere and I need to take it to the insurance comany to get an updated picture taken of it, but I can't even get it there. Ford needs to foot the bill on this one and do what is right. There is a problem and it is quite an obvious one (defect). I'm hoping a recall will come about for everyone affected by this. If they won't submit to one than I fully support a class action law suit.
This has really cause an extreme mental burden on me as well as a financial one. I can't be certain that my kids or me will be safe because I don't know where I'm going to be when the car decides to lock up on me. I can't keep funneling money to people to assist me, fix the problem for me, or even move my car. I can't afford another car right now, so I am left with playing craps with my safety and more importantly my children safety. I have to go to work and other necessary places I need my car to take me. Currently my car has been parked at my grandsmother's house for 3 days because I can't get the steering column unlocked.

LOCKED-UP IGNITION - AGAIN!!!! We fixed the locked ignition once about 3 years ago - immediately after our warranty expired so it was at our expense, of course - and now, tonight, it's happened again! I am flabbergasted that so many of us are having this identical problem and Ford has done nothing about it.
As I write this, it's nearly 2am and my husband - who had gone in after-hours to get some work done at the art school where he teaches - is now exhausted and waiting for the impossibly slow AAA tow truck! I came online to see if I could find him a solution to the problem and found this site...
I couldn't believe what I was reading. One after the other. How many of us does it take to initiate a recall? This is really completely unacceptable!

We bought a Ford Escort Station Wagon 1998 three years ago, and had it checked thoroughly at the time, and they did say that the back suspension was not very good, but it worked, but just now, the two rear coil springs snapped, cut in half the mechanic said. We noticed it because when we had people in the back there were strange loud noises, especially when turning the car.

We have a 2002 Ford Focus SE. Recently while traveling accross country the fuel pump went out and we got that fixed through a recall they had for no charge.
On 2/3/2007 I had been in and out of the car numerous times and went to start it again and the key would'nt turn. I called my dealer and found out that my warranty had just expired and this is a problem with these cars but Ford won't help you a bit financially.
I had to have it towed and have the switch replaced. After being without a vehicle for a few days and $275 later finally it was back out of the shop.

I bought a brand new 2002 Ford Focus with only 7 miles on it. Two years later with only 20,000 miles on the vehicle, i find that the ignition was locked. After calling ford to find out that they would not give me any help fixing this problem I was referred to a locksmith who would help me fix the ignintion for almost half the price the dealership offered me.
The locksmith informed me that he fixes atleast five of these ignitions a week! Its pretty sad that I was informed of the defaulted ignition by a locksmith and not the dealer. I would have also appreciated if i was aware of these problems prior to the purchase. To make matters worse, it is only two years later, 65,00 miles, and i have to replace the locked ignition once again.
After calling the dealer and asking what i could do to prevent the problem from happening he had no answer besides, Its just a default. I think it is lame and asinine that Ford can recall a hindge on a door but not a poorly constructed ignition. From this experience and finding out about other Ford owner's experiences it makes me feel terrified to even drive my car anymore. I can assure you my family will not be purchasing a ford again.

I figured the steering wheel had turned and it would require more force, but after trying for thirty minutes while talking to my father on my cell phone, I was sure it was hopeless.
I proceeded to mess with it for the next hour-and-a-half while waiting for my buddy to come pick me up so I could make it to my afternoon job on time (missing class and lunch in the process). The whole time, I was jiggling and hitting the car parts, and seriously freaking out. Ford must fix this problem (recall), and stop milking it for tons of cash.

My 2002 Ford Focus Wagon had over 100,000 miles. I had relatively few problems with it ubtil this past December (2006). If the overnight temperature was in the 30s, I couldn't even get the solenoid to click when I tried to start it at 7 AM, when I go to work. If I waited until 8 AM, when it was a little warmer, it started easily. Naturally, I figured it was the battery.
Even though the battery checked out OK at Ford, I had a new one installed anyhow. The problem continued. I told Redlands Ford the details of the problem, left the car with them for 3 days to troubleshoot and rented a car so I could travel to work daily. What did they do?...they had a tech attempt to start it numerous times, all after 8 AM...when it was warmer and the problem doesn't occur. Of course it started! I was so upset that Ford couldn't fix its own cars that I ended up purchasing a new Honda Civic Hybrid. I find it hard to believe that this problem has never been documented by Ford anywhere in the USA as long as they have been making the Focus.
Now, unless I unethically omit mentioning the problem to a potential buyer, I can't sell yhe car. So I am stuck making payments on two autos.

Finally the ignition just went out one day and I could not get it to turn at all. I had to get my car towed ($70 ) then rent a car for the time it was being worked on ($150) and then had to pay for the ignition to be replaced($360). What a rip off. i bought my daughter a brand new ford focus in march of 2004, so she would have a safe vehicle to drive with no problems. 7 months later, the car began stalling on her. they couldn't find anything wrong or duplicate the problem. a couple months later, it happened again coming off an offramp and she ended up hitting her head on the drivers window and going to the ER.
the car has gone in countless times since then and the representative they assigned to the case...Melissa Cruse, stated ford was going to buy back the vehicle, but then changed her mind and said they would continue to try and figure out the problem. I am horribly concerned that she won't be so lucky next time. she was stranded in the middle of the evening a couple weeks ago and the thermastat went out also (4th time in one month). She had no heat waiting on a tow truck for almost an hour in 20 degree temps.
She has less than 2 months to go until her warrenty is up, and she is in the shop constantly still. The clutch has gone out 3 times and the heat stops working for her constantly. the car has a wopping 26,000 miles on it. I am so disappointed with Ford right now, that i can't stand it. Why they won't admit that this is a safety hazard and just keep buying time until the customer is stuck with the weekly bills, speaks loudly of their organization.
And the people they have working for them as representatives gives them an even worse name. I am presently filing a suit against them and strongly suggest others do the same. You can do this thru the BBB for free. I have also filed a complaint with Nhtsa- hopefully they will investigate this mess of a vehicle that was offered to the public. Shame on Ford for being so horrible with their customers.
I will never buy from them again.

I purchased a 2000 Ford Focus, for the first 3 months my car was great, then the car wouldn't start, I had to have it towed and have a new gas tank put in, this happened one more time and then Ford finally recalled the problem but I had to pay for a fuel filter. then I got 4 tires and the shop said they couldn't align my car because there was a problem with the front end, I took it to the Ford Dealer and they relaced shocks & Struts (Under warranty).
Not even one month later my ciol spring broke, I had to pay for that and then 5 months later they recalled it and I got a refund. I also had all of the recall issues checked out at the dealer and I had to pay for a new lock for my truck, ford said there is a problem but it is not a safety issue so no recall was issued 200.00 out of my pocket. 3 months ago during a regular inspection, the service man said that I had a broken coil spring again, so I had to pay 137.00 for the new spring. I call my Dealer and at first they gave me a hard time saying that I had already had the warranty part fixed and it was my problem now. Then after a lot of yelling they finally decided to agree to have me bring my car in and they will replace both coil springs free of charge and give me a free alignment, but as far as the $137.00 that I already paid for a new coil spring they doublt they will refund me.
So now in the interim, I left my 2nd job last night at 10:00 pm and got into my car and tried to start it and my key will not completely go into the ignition therefore I can not start my car. It seems to be a Major unresolved problem that Ford will not recall because it is not a safety concern. It was snowing and thankfully I was able to call someone to give me a ride, otherwise I would have had to walk in the snow about 7 miles to the nearest person I know. I called my dealer this morning and he told me that he is very familiar with this problem but it is not recalled yet and to have the car towed in and he would fix it, but I would have to pay for it. He said it would probably be around 300-500 depending on how bad the cylinder was. I called another dealer and the service man told me to get a screwdriver and a hammer and to lightly hammer it in like a nail to hit the release switch so the car will start. My problem is that this is a Safety hazard, if I was not able to reach anyone last night I could have frozn to death.

I had the same problem that everyone else here had. A bad ignition that locked up. Steering wheel locked up, couldn't do a darned thing but sit there and yank on things while turning the key for 45 minutes until I gave up hope. Bit I eventually got it. Here's how - After I looked into it a bit here's the best help that I found: The problem is the OEM Huf lock. Do not go to Ford to fix it.
Go to an automotive locksmith and put in a Strattec #707592 lock or something other than what Ford uses, the Huf. Quick fixes: the only tip I've used is to pound the key in as far and as hard as you can with your hand, then try turning. Worked like a charm when nothing else worked, even jacking the front end up and trying to straighten the tires. For me, the wheel locked when the tires were cranked while I put it in park. So hammer the key in like mad and then it should work. But it's only a quick fix. I've also read that WD-40 works. Squirt it on the key or in the ignition in the keyhole, who knows.
But I also read that squirting WD-40 into an ignition is never a good thing so I hesitate to recommend trying that tip. Get mad, pound the key in like crazy, don't hurt your hand, and try it again. But don't call a tow truck (unless that doesn't work) and don't let them put a Ford part back in - any aoutomotive locksmith can do a better job. As a matter of fact, that might be your first call. Pop-A-Lock told me they're very familiar with the operation.

Another mororist waved her down to inform her there were flames shooting from underneath her car. She immidately pulled off the highway and exited the vehicle. She told me that she was traveling about 70 MPH when she received the warning and as soon as she tried to slow down, she noticed her brakes were not working. She said her car lost power and she began to decelerate.
She pulled the emergency brake and stopped the vehice. Her car went up in flames within a minute of her departure from the vehicle. Fortunately, she was not injured but she lost the vehicle and several personal articles. The full report with several eye witnesses was given to the Burnett County Sheriff's Office. I called Tri-Lakes Ford (where I purchased the car in March of 2005) and was told that since the car was no longer under warrenty and I failed to extend the warrenty that there would more than likely be a cost to fix the problem with the car. She was not all that friendly especially when she was setting up an appointment for me to come in and fix it and I told her that I had to be at work at 7:45 am (too early for me to drop it off) and that I don't get off work until 4:00 pm and it takes me 30 min. to get over to the dealership and she informed me that they get off work at 5:00 evidently they don't care enough about their customers to help them and stay a little longer to fix the car, assuming that it takes longer than 30 mins. for this defect. I have had several problems with my 2000 Ford Focus. The first one I can recall was back in January of 2005. My husband and I were driving cross country and hit a tire tread in the road. This caused problems with our fuel pump. WE had that fixed, under the recall, and were on our way again. Five months later, the check engine light came on. I took it to the local Ford dealership and they told me it was my fuel pump.
Come to find out, the dealership in New Mexico put it in wrong. I called the dealership and never got a response. The next thing to happen was with the ABS system. The light goes on and off and the breaks sometimes don't work correctly. I was told it would cost $600.00 to fix the problem. I didn't have the money so I didn't have the repair. Next, the anti theft system went out. The horn was stuck on and I had to go to the dealership to have it turned off. I had to have new keys done, a new modual put in and that cost $400.00.
The trunk release didn't work after that and still doesn't. Next, I was taking my car out of gear to stop and the engine kept racing. I had a problem with the idle air control valve, vaccum hose leaks and issues witht he spark plugs I had just replaced 2 months ago. That cost nearly $800.00 and 6 days without a car. Two weeks later, I was shopping and went to drive home and the key wouldn't turn in the ignition. I couldn't even get the key in all the way. This was on a Sunday and I had to have my car towed to a local Ford dealership to be fixed. I hear this is a very common problem.
Lastly, I had a problem with the real passenger's window. I put the window down and it made a terrible noise. I couldn't get it back up so I had to drive an hour to a dealership because the local one didn't have enough people working because it was the first day of deer season. This cost me $280.00 to get fixed. I am really unhappy with Ford and the Ford Focus. I will never buy from them again. Their service is terrible and the quality even worse.
In 2 years, it has cost around $2500.00 to get repairs, not to mention the time I missed from work because my car was in the shop.

The locksmith replaced it with a Strattec #707592 lock which is very reliable and, surprisingly, installed by Ford in other vehicles such as Explorer. I have a Ford Focus 2003. It now has 67,000 miles on it. It had problems as soon as I bought it. I bought it used at about 15,000 miles in spring 2004. The CD player broke, wouldn't eject or play cd's. It was replaced under waranty. This may not be in chronological order btw. The front brakes went. I took it in several times and was told they were fine, but I knew they weren't. Finally. they said my brakes and rotors were bad.
Then the back breaks, I had the back breaks done by goodyear a year ago and I am pretty sure they are bad again too as they grind like an sob, but they keep saying they arn't. The front breaks are still ok and they are maybe 2 years old. Anyway, I had rail dust all over my car. Now, I bought the car in Illinois, but I live in Iowa and no Ford place in Iowa would fix the rail dust as the car was past the rail dust waranty, though it was still in the normal 36,000 waranty. I had to take my car back to Illinois to the originial dealer to get that taken care of. I was told, by the Ford Company as a whole it was caused by the way the vehicals were transported before being sold, great. The left hand rear door handle got stuck out. I had to have it put back in so it would work.
The trunk sometimes just unsecures itself and the trunk light goes on and I have to stop and shut it. My rear axel's have gone bad and had to be replaced, after warranty. Just last month the CD player replaced by warranty went bad. It wouldn't even acknoladge the cd in it. It wouldn't come out or play and kept saying it wasn't there. I bought a new cd player at Best Buy after that. I am so bloody sick of this car.

I have a 2002 Ford Focus ZX5 which seems to have the same problem in which everyone else is complaining about: the key will not turn in the ignition. It seems as if the entire stearing column is locked and the car will not start. When this happened the first time, we called the Ford Dealership, which to my dismay told us that this was a very common problem, but was not in recall.
The solution he said was to bang on the key with a hammer!!! A mechanic told us to bang on the key with a hammer because replacing the ignition was a temporary fix. He said it seems to continue to happen again and again at $300 a pop!! How small and insignificant did that make me feel? Like a dependable vehicle to get me to work so that I may provide for my family is unimportant to Ford Motor Company thus they refuse to do a recall?!? Other problems that I have had with this vehicle include a new alternator (at 78K for $250), afuel pump (at 80K for $400), fuel hose (at 81K for $60), fuel cap (at 79K for $12), O2 Sensor (at 100K for $85), motor mount (at 105K for $300), strutts (72K for $450), wheel (at 92K for $325), and tires too often at probably about $40 each. If you buy a TV at Wal-Mart and 2 years later it breaks, even if it's no longer under warranty, even if you spilled coke in it, they will give you store credit towards a new TV!!! ( I have friends that used to work there, it happens). WAL-MART! We all know about customer service at Wal-Mart, it's unthinkably horrible.
To think that a company could quite possibly have worse customer service than that leaves me speachless and feeling small and insignificant to a multi-billion dollar grossing company. A company which has the funds for quality control!! If Bill Ford would stop lying in all those commercials about quality and blah, blah, blah.... and concentrate on the problems making so many consumers turn away from the American made car, which used to be very reliable and popular, and towards upstanding vehicle producing companies such as Honda and Toyota, it would further our own economy and produce more jobs for Americans. I know, this can't happen over night, but I do strongly believe that a few recalls, and a very big apology, with a We will fix the problem is in order here.
If you get bad food at a restaurant and you were told it helps to brush your teeth to get the bad taste of your mouth, would you ever go back? NO!! Why would someone chose a Ford for their next vehicle when they have had countless problems with the Ford the already have? No one in their right mind would. It's not smart and neither are the decisions of Ford.

Now both front door handles stick sometimes so that the door will not close or the key will not turn once the door is locked. Moreover, it takes several slams before the trunk will actually stay closed.
My car runs extremely loudly, does not accellerate, nor does it go faster than 30 mph up hills. The check ingine light has been on for about a year now, but I hesitate to take it in to a Ford dealership because when my husband called he was told that whatever the problem is - it will cost us an arm and a leg. My 2001 Focus ZX3 has had the traction control light staying on for long periods of time when it wasn't actually activating. I had the dealership diagnose the problem and they said the ABS module is bad. I waited for a while to get it worked on as the car was out of warranty-the problem showed up at about 55K miles--and I didn't have the money to fix it at the time.
I finally brought the car in a week and a half ago to my dealer, it now has 67,000 mi, and after replacing the ABS module things are not working. Apparently the module is not able to be programmed correctly. My dealer has provided me with a courtesy car and seems to be being honest about what is going on. I have had good luck with them in the past. Unfortunately, they don't know what is going on, and neither does the regional rep, or Fords tech service department. Again, I think the dealer is being straight up, and that Ford is at fault here.
I have a car to drive, but am a little confused as to why a company cannot fix a product they manufacture. I was uneasy about buying a Ford to start with and now this has pretty much sealed the fact that I will not buy another one. I have been researching Focus service issues and am seeing a trend here. It is unfortunate. There are many great things about the Focus, but the rampant quality issues(my hatch leaks when it rains, front coil springs broke at 50,000mi, there is a very strange sideways motion occurring when I hit potholes, and I get terrible gas mileage) have soured my ownership experience.

Now, today, the transmission is slipping with only 72k miles. The tires have been changed on the rear and the front need to be changed as well. I could not afford to buy all four at one time. Now, I pray that I do not have to replace the transmission. Waiting to hear from the diagnostic being run on the car today.
I live 50 miles from my cafe in Bastrop, Tx. I am single and have no one to depend on to get me to and from my place of business in order to make money to pay for the $84 cost of diagnostic testing. It will cost more to get whatever is wrong with the transmission, I'm sure. I had to pay to have the vehicle towed to the dealer to get the ignition changed as well as the towing today for the transmission. We just recently had to have the ignition switch replaced in our 2000 Ford Focus. I am shocked at all of the people who have had the same problem. How dare Ford act like this is not their responsibility to correct this defect? I bet Chevrolet would correct the problem. I will never buy a Ford again just for the very simple fact that they don't think a person being stranded (because of a sub-standard Ford product) is a safety issues. Aside from the fact that recalls should be based on quality of product not whether or not Ford thinks it could be considered safe or not. I was in the hospital just having surgery to remove cancer and my husband went to leave the hospital and he was stranded. He is a firefighter/medic and he relies on his car to get him to and from work so that he can keep others safe. I assure Ford that as far as we are concerned, we will be the best advertisers against Ford. My husband will be certain to advise any of his fellow firefighter/medic friends to think twice before they visit their neighborhood Ford dealership for their new purchase. We have always been Ford fans. We bought one of the first Sport Tracs that came out. I will certainly switch my loyalty to Chevy from now on. They at least will replace things that they acknowledge are not up to the superior quality that they expect to have in their products. Shame on Ford Motor Company. Something that could have cost them very little in replacing the faulty ignition switches with a better quality switch will cost them thousands, hopefully millions, in future sales because they refuse to have the customer service and quality assurance that other car companies pride themselves on. No wonder Ford has to close some of their factories. Serves them right. Here we come Chevy!!!!

Essentially the same problems as everyone else. I bought my 2001 Focus in... 2001. One year later I was stuck in the middle of nowhere with a car that wouldn't turn in the dead of a minnesota winter with no cell phone and no prayer. Luckily a good soul drove by dropped me off at a service station and we got it winched(while grinding the gears because it couldn't be put in neutral). $700 dollars later a poor college student was made poorer. Fast forward to 2006 on a friday getting ready for a job interview to fly out on Friday evening. My car key doesn't work again and I miss my flight. At any rate, it took the tow company around three hours to get there and it was just a pain. Now I'm doing the smart thing and getting a locksmitch to replace the whole ignition with a non-ford part for $275. A funny side note, I requested from the ford dealership to put in a non-focus or even non-ford ignition and they refused... said it didn't work. That was a lie on top of a $700 bill.

The first time after about 30 minutes of trying and switching keys it started. The second time, it would not start. A friend called a friend who worked at a Ford dealer and he said he has worked on numerous Focus' that had the same problem. A quick fix he said to get it home would be to tap the key with a hard object while turning. It did work. He said something about springs not matching up to the key unless it is tapped. This should be a recall as I have read on the Internet where this is happening to people over and over. Ford needs to take responsibility for the defect.
The second time this happened was in the parking lot of a mall at closing time where you do not know who is lurking. It was also about 35 degrees outside. This could have been my wife and kids. I also had to deal with security who thought I was attempting to steal the car after they sat across the parking lot watching me attempt to start the vehicle. This is totally uncalled for and Ford should pay to have the problem fixed. I have worked at Ford for 13 years and am embarrassed that so many people have had the same problem with nothing being done about it.

I again got in the car to leave and guess what? It was still the same as when I went in. I went right back inside and they said I needed a new axle which they would do for just the part (they would cover the labor) which would be $75. I told them I didn't have $75. They said they wanted me to be happy so they would replace it for no charge. Which they did and guess what? I got in the car and no change whatsoever. They said they just couldn't figure out what the problem was and that I should check with Ford to see if they had any kind of recall for this problem. The noise is now worse than ever and I am planning to take it to the dealer. Oh by the way, my rear driver side window stopped working at 18,000 miles. I wasn't in any danger, it stuck at home, but I am disappointed there is no recall for this widespread problem. The tow and replacement cost me $325. Even in just my small town, the guy who towed me said he had THREE Focus ignition problems just that week! I bought the Focus because it was economical, or so I thought. I'm a single mom, trying to make ends meet, and this was a real set back for me. I've been reading more about the Focus, and I'm just hoping some of those other dangerous problems don't happen to me! In 2003 my ignition refused to let me turn the key over at all and I ended up having to have the car towed three hours to the nearest Ford Dealership to have the ignition re-done because they said that it was warped. After this time, the car has had 7 recalls to it. The car was under warranty at the time and I didn't have to pay for the work done to it. Now in 2006 the same problem has occurred. I was trapped in Spokane Washington for 3 hours trying to get my car started and it would not even allow me to turn it over once again.
The car is no longer under warranty and I had to have it towed to Wendle Ford, where I bought it to have it fixed. This time it cost me $384 dollars to have the ignition redone again. This is very disconcerting to have to pay $15,000 for a car that your not sure if its going to start when you get into it. Especially having to have it done two times makes me wonder how many more times Im going to have to have this done.

The ignition keey gets stuck and won't turn in my Ford Focus. Wasn't able to start the car and spent 6 hours trying to get a tow truck to tow it home.

I had been in a car accident and totaled my '01 Ford Focus SE and the airbags did not deploy. I have been told by a number of individuals that the air bags should have deployed.

I have a 2001 Ford Focus and have had two ignition switches replaced. Now I can't get my key to go into the switch. This seems a major, major problem. Also, I have extreme screeches on my radio when I apply the brakes or the turn signals. Dealers have dealt with this five times to no avail. Have had numerous tow jobs for the ignition switch replacement.

Premature airbag deployment occurred in minor 10 mph bump, doing substantially more damage to the vehicle, a 2001 Ford Focus, than the actual incident did. Body damage from accident is less than $100 but airbag damage is over $3,000. There are hundreds of premature air bag deployment incidents reported but Ford is denying and covering up the defect in the airbag sensor that causes the problem. I have been communicating with Ford's Executive offices to obtain correction of the problem and reimbursement for the nearly $3,000 cost to replace the airbags, not to mention the destroyed windshield and my son's reluctance to drive anymore.

My 2002 Ford Focus is just outside of my 36/3 year warranty and today I heard a grinding noise so I figured I would take it in and have it looked at assuming it is the brakes and the little warning indicator was touching the rotor so I was prepared to pay for a brake job, however to my surprise not only do I need new brakes but rotors as well. The person at the shop said he has seen many vehicles this past month needing new rotors.

I have a 2000 Ford Focus. I have had minor problems since I bought it, but recently my transmission began skipping second gear. I brought my car to the Bridgeport, CT Ford dealership where I bought it and the salesman told me my transmission needed to be replaced.
When I asked why a four-year-old car's transmission needed to be replaced he said it was because I did not change my transmission fluid. Since I bought my car, I used this dealership for all service needs, including oil changes. Not once was I told I needed to change my transmission fluid. Needless to say, I did not allow them to replace my transmission for $2000.
