My 2008 Ford Escape transmission failed after 75,000 miles. I was very disappointed due to the fact that I purchased it brand new in June of 2007 and paid every note on time. In early 2008, the car gas paddle broke and in 2009, the A/C failed. To make a long story short, I am building this truck for Ford and paying them to do it. All Ford would say is that my warranty expired at 60,000 miles and there are no recalls on this truck, which means to me that the truck is only good for 60,000 miles.

Ford Services quoted me $4,000 to replace the transmission on my truck, knowing that every other vehicle they build transmissions have failed (they have transmission recalls). The reason why I purchased a new truck was to ensure myself as a single parent that I would not be on the side of the road with my children being able to get to work. Ford has left my family struggling--no ride to work, no way to school (my girls), and no food on the table. This is a major crush in my life. I will have to pond everything I have to raise the money for these repairs. I was up all night trying to figure out how my family will get from point A to B. I really don't know where to turn and I'm sure that they're going to want my August payment.

I am a wedding photographer and while traveling about 4.5 hours away from home to shoot a wedding, I had problems about two hours into my trip. I was on Interstate 20 just outside of Columbia, SC. I was in the left hand lane behind a semi truck, there was another semi truck in the right lane beside me and behind me I had a large van.

I was going about 65-70 when suddenly, the car lost all power including the steering and all the warning lights blinked on. I somehow regained control of the car by shifting in neutral and restarting. I hate to think what would have happened had I not been able to react as fast as I did as the van behind me had to slam on his brakes to keep from hitting me. Once the semi truck was cleared of the right lane, I got over and turned on my flashers. Since I had it running, I was too scared to pull over on the side.

I got to my nearest exit and pulled over. I turned off the vehicle and all the warning lights went off except the ABS and the check engine light. I restarted and drove about a mile to a mechanic. They could not see anything wrong but heard the misfire. The car was towed to Classic Ford in Columbia, SC. I had to rent a car to finish my trip as I couldn't let down a couple about to be married.

I just got the estimate to the tune of over $2700. It's the PCM Module along with coil, spark plugs and a few other things. I am now debating about weather to fix it or not as all the reviews I have read it seems like people continue to have problems after it's fixed. It sounds like Ford really needs to figure out a way to fix this chronic problem before someone dies in an accident. The vehicle is a 2005 Ford Escape.

While traveling about 65-70mph on the highway, my battery light and ABS light on the panel illuminated, and then, I lost power. I continued to have power for the windows, fan, etc., but not anything (even a sound) when attempting to re-start the vehicle. After looking online, I see there have been issues in previous years with the Escape.

I bought a used 2005 Ford Escape in July 2008, had little problems at first, then in Dec 2010, the powertrain control module blew up. Since then, I've had nothing but big problems, as I speak, it is back in shop with another 2000.00 converter problem, which mechanic said that the front end has major issues like control arms, ball joints, wheel bearings and tie rod ends. In November 2010, I had stabilizer bushing bar links replaced. This is a never ending repair job. I will never buy Ford again!

I bought a Ford Escape in the fall of 2009. The car soon thereafter began to shift hard, jerking noticeably in 1st and 2nd gear. I eventually found out that Ford transmissions have an ongoing problem. HB Ford eventually rebuilt my transmission or so they said, but they fought me about getting me a loaner car. I even had to go to corporate to finally get them to pay for a loaner car.

Three days later, the car was jerking again and has done so ever since. I brought it back again at the beginning of February 2011. They told me they'd have the car for two hours to do a firmware download; instead, they had the car all day which cost me a day of work. They said that they couldn't reproduce the problem even though the car jerks badly several times a day for me. I lost a day of work which ticked off my boss. Then, their courtesy shuttle got lost, forcing me to walk two miles to pick up my car. And when I complained, they refused to work with me anymore.

I bought a Ford Escape in November,2010. Within a few weeks, I noticed the car started to lurch when shifting in first and second gears. It got progressively worse. I brought it into the dealer, Huntington Beach Ford, and they said they would have to rebuild the transmission. I had to go all the way to Ford corporate to get a rental car paid for, while they rebuilt my transmission. Three days after the rebuild, the car started to lurch again. I waited, because it wasn't quite as bad as before and I wanted to make sure the dealership would be able to duplicate the problem. Finally, today Jan 25, 2011, I brought the car back in. They said they would have the car only two hours, that they were going to do a firmware download only, to see if that helped.

Three hours later they had not called, and when I called them, they said they had not diagnosed the problem yet. I ended up having to call in to work to miss a day ($400 in wages) and they did not call me back until six hours after I had dropped the car off. I asked them to send their courtesy shuttle, which they said they did. An hour later I started walking three miles to the dealership. I was two blocks from the dealership when the driver of the shuttle called and asked where the heck I was. I walked into the dealership and was told they could find nothing wrong with my car.

The Service Manager walked in and offered me his hand, which I refused to take and he walked off, refusing to discuss my car. I took my car and left, after telling them I was extremely dissatisfied and would never buy another Ford product. An hour later someone from the dealership called and said they'd taken off the price of the oil change from the bill they'd presented me at the dealership, and I told them to keep the oil change on the bill because it was the only honest thing they'd done. They refused to keep the oil change on the bill and I hung up.

I own a 2002 Ford Escape XLT 4WD. I came home from work one night, parked my car, and went to bed. I was awoken about 6 hours later, to my car alarm going off. I headed down stairs to see what was going on, only to see my car engine caught on fire! After it was extinguished by me, and the fire department coming, I was told by several mechanics, that it was because of the engine wiring harness that connects with the ABS. After getting really no help from my insurance company, I found out about a recall on my Escape a year before I purchased it. I guess the Escape was inspected, and was issued "no service required", and now Ford is telling me, because it has been 3 years, it's not their problem! Why isn't anyone doing anything about this after reading all these problems Ford has been having? The car can not be driven now. It would cost around $1,500-$2,500, I am told. I can not afford to have it fixed.

I was driving over Brooklyn bridge at 40 mph. I got to bottom of the bridge and the car started stalling, and would only go 10-15 mph. I was trying to make it home but could not. I past by my husband's mechanic shop and before I could stop, the car jerked and started jerking, and sound of part loose was loud. My sister and I jumped out of the car. When I got back in, the car gave a loud boom sound and went dead. I had it check by my husband's mechanic and he informed me that parts in the transmission broke. I told him not to do anything else. The car, a 2005 Ford Escape, was driving smoothly with no indication that parts were about to break. The car only has 28,000 miles.

I filed a report with Ford motor company and also with the NHTSA. I feel that I should not have to paid over $3,000 for repairs when the car is hardly driven and the transmission goes out with neither warning nor indication. The parts I feel might have been defected and as Ford always brag that they build their cars with durability. I feel that they are using cheap material even after people paid a decent amount of money for their cars.

I recently brought my 2005 Ford Escape in for service at the dealer were it was purchased. My car had stalled out while getting on the highway at rush hour. I was able to get the car to the side of the road and it started back up thankfully because I had my two small children in the car. The car was running very rough and kept stalling out. The car was towed to a non-Ford garage for diagnosis only.

At that point, I was informed that Ford had originally released the 2005 Escape (3.0 V6 only) with the wrong spark plugs. The wrong spark plugs interfere with the coils and in turn destroy the PCM. There were multiple TSB's issued regarding this problem. After hearing this, I brought the vehicle to the Ford dealership where it was purchased. They confirmed the diagnosis but stated that this was not covered under the New Vehicle Limited Warranty. I then had several conversations via email with Ford customer service (corporate level) who again informed me that this was not covered. My total repair bill (including towing) is approx $3,000. A search on the internet brought up many other people with this problem and Ford has not accepted responsibility for any of them. This issue is caused only by the fact that Ford released these vehicles with defective parts.

I recently (only about a year ago) got my Ford Escape and loved it until I started experiencing various problems with this truck. I have done regular oil changes, brake changes, fluids etc. That's not the issue! I now am experiencing a rough ride every time I drive my car. When starting it reams up to about 3rpms and then backs down so low it dies while in park. Also if it doesn't die immediately it shifts up and down like it's jumping from about 0-1 rpms. Since this is my only way of transportation, I'm stuck driving it and trying to figure out the issue. The check engine light came on and I went and had code read. The list of issues started with vacuum leak-checked, idler control valve-replaced, mass airflow sensor-replaced, oxygen sensors (4)-2 replaced. I'm about $500 in on just parts not including cost of actual labor.

The code is now off and car is still acting up worse than ever! Other replacements I've made: Ball joints-easy fix. If any idea or help out there please let me know.

I purchased a 2002 Ford Escape brand new. The vehicle at 67,000 miles has a blown engine. It started to knock, so I took it in to my local dealership, where they informed that the short block was blown. I have also spoken with another mechanic that told me exactly what was wrong with it without even looking at it. He commented that this was a common problem with Escapes. I am a 55-year old grandmother and the only driver of this vehicle. I have contacted the Ford Care Center and they were not helpful. I spoke with one of their reps with no results, so, I requested to speak with a supervisor, I was told he was currently unavailable but he would get back to me. That was over a month ago. I still have not heard back from them.

Had I known when I purchased the vechicle that it would only get 67,000 miles out of it, I would never have purchased one. I am looking at a $6,000 repair on a car that is only worth $6,500 after the repair is made.

I bought my 2008 Ford Escape in 2007. Ever since I bought it, the engine made noises. Around 12,000 miles it was running really rough and I had problems driving it. The wheels were shaking and making sounds, the engine was knocking, and when we turned the vehicle made a loud cracking sound. I took it in to Sound Ford of Washington and they discovered that I bought the vehicle with a faulty transmission. They switched out the tranny and put a rebuilt tranny in it. However, they put a transmission in my vehicle with metal chips in it. My wheel bearings were out on every side, but they told me it was my tires for about 2 months.

We had to pay Goodyear Tires $100.00 to take a telescope to listen, just to tell us that it was the bearings. When Ford finally fixed the problem, one of the mechanics slammed the bearings in and broke them. So we had to replace them again. We have had a total of 4 transmissions, 6 bearings, a shaft, and many other issues and parts.

All the while I have a case with Ford Warranty and their solution was, "If Ford can keep fixing it, we will." I told them this car is not safe and I would like Ford to take this one back and give us another vehicle. I even wrote letters to the president of Ford, the executive and vice, but no response. I am in Washington, which is a lemon law state and Ford still didn't help.

We switched dealers and took our vehicle to Bowen Scarf in Kent, Washington to fix from now on. 2009 was the last time we took our vehicle in, until now. Yesterday, 10/27/2010, we were driving to pick up our 10-year old son and the acceleration pedal stuck all the way to the floor and we almost had a horrific accident. When my husband finally got the pedal to release, we immediately drove to Bowan Scarf Ford to drop it off. The manager Brian told us he would put in another claim/case for the vehicle to Ford's customer service/warranty. He told us that he had never seen or heard of a Ford vehicle's pedal sticking all the way to the floor like Toyota vehicles did.

I called Ford customer service this morning, 10/28/2010, at 10 am to tell them what happened and that we would like for Ford to help us and take the vehicle back and give us a safer vehicle. This car is only at 23k miles and it has severe problems with it. It is not safe. Ford customer service told me that they will reopen the last case and call me back in 2 days because there were previous notes in the file that if any more problems should arise, the case will be re-opened.

However, I am very doubtful that they will help us since the last string of events took place and we’re still stuck with an unsafe vehicle. This has been going on since 2008 and we are exhausted. Bowan ** told me this morning that they got the pedal in and are fixing it. I do not want back in the vehicle. There has been too many major problems with that car and I am not about to risk my family's life just so Ford can say, "Maybe we should've done something.” It would cost less for Ford to change out vehicles than it would to pay out compensation for families who have had accidents in their vehicles.

I have purchased a new 2009 Ford Escape back in July 2009. It has been a little over one year, and I have been dealing with problem with the car since my 3rd month after purchase. First, the engine was ticking so Ford had to replace the right cylinder head and done that twice-- yes, a head job on a brand new car with less than 5K miles.

Now, at ~16k miles transmission problems, including hard engagement and leaking problem, the Ford dealer has worked on it 4 times and the transmission is still leaking. To add to that, the stabilizer bar on the front end of the car was making a snapping noise, where they had to replace and yet the noise returned after one month. I am very disappointed with Ford's poor quality of customer service, and equality of their product. And I wish there is a way to have Ford convinced to buy back their junk that they have sold me.

The Hydraulic control unit went out in my 2006 Hybrid Escape. I can see things going wrong with the car as it has 101,000 miles on it. However, the replacement unit costs $4,500 plus 4 hours to install. That's almost $5,000 for a replacement part on a car that cost $28,000. I could buy an engine or a transmission with thousands of parts for less than that. I must say, the dealer has been sympathetic, but there is really not much he can do. I will never buy another Ford product again and I am a Ford guy. The pricing on this unit is absolutely criminal since I have no choice but to buy it from Ford. There is no alternative.

In June 2010, transmission went out again but no cost. In Oct 2010, it will cost $1,500 to fix the frame and axle, control arms and wheel barrings, and I can't put car in drive unless I pop the cap to push the button to put car in gear. Well, I own a 2001 Ford Escape xls 4dr v6 4x4. My transmission goes out. I got it rebuilt at 154,763 miles for $1100 at a little shop. 2 weeks later, it broke down again. They fixed the problem. They rebuilt it all over again. This went on for the whole 7 months of my warranty. Then finally, when it seems to have gotten better, it breaks again. Now I took it to another guy for $1900. He asked for the rebuilds. One week later, it broke down. Good for me, he gave a 1-year warranty. But now it’s trashed. The tranny is. So, he kept the Ford for 1 month trying. He bought another tranny and this one breaks down.

I’m down to last 2 months of my warranty. Now I have no job to fix this tranny again. Ford says it’s not their problem that the tranny needed to be lubed more! On top of all that, the tranny leaks fluid and smokes like crazy. It worries me because can’t something like that ignite a fire with fluid leaking out, causing major smoke? I have looked at the complaint list on 2001 Ford Escape reviews and complaints. It’s all about the transmission going out. I need advice or some kind of legal help please.

It's a 2002 Ford Escape engine failure. While I was driving, my engine started knocking and then stalled. My truck had 6, 000 Km. I called Ford and they told me that my vehicle warranty had expired. So I asked if it was normal ford a 64,000 km engine to fail. So finally they agreed to tow my truck to the nearest dealer. After inspection, they told me that my engine had overheated.

They also mentioned that on a service bill from the previous owner. The engine had leaked oil and probably damaged the engine. I went to the dealer. Much to my surprise, the compression rings were in the oil pan and had no discoloration or a bluish color that would confirm their finding. While looking into the stated service bill, there was no mention of oil, just the mention of ''oil pan plug tightened and oil swiped''.

After a 5 weeks argument, I got a agreement in which I assumed $1000 on the $7300 repair cost. I was fortunate that in Canada, we have the legal warranty that states that any goods has to last a normal lifetime according to the type of good in normal use. It cost me $1000 plus the motel and travel expense. This incident happened 250 km from home. The overall cost came near $2500.

It was later determined that the fire started in the garage. Investigators from Ford and my insurance company stated it was from the cruise control switch in my 2000 Ford Expedition. For some reason no one notified me that my vehicle could auto ignite and destroy my home and almost kill me and my family.

My 2003 Ford Escape SUV has had paint peeling and flaking off even when it was under warranty and has gotten to the point to where it is rusting.
I have tried to resolve this issue with Ford Motor Company even under warranty and have gotten no where with them. Out on the internet if you was to type in Ford Escape paint defects in a search engine it will show many people with the same problem with many different years but mostly the year 2003. I do not have the money in these hard times to fix this problem mostly since it is due to a manufacting defect.

Well on Friday morning October 9th, 2009, my girlfriend was going to work at 7:30am in the morning like usual. When a driver of a truck hydro-planed on the highway sending him into the cement median, his truck came back into the middle lane causing my girlfriend to hit him at around 60 mph. She slammed on the brakes and was hit from behind by another automobile. With either collisions the side or driver airbags did not deploy. She had her seatbelt on but she now is getting dizzy and blacking out. She was then rushed to the hospital. After the insurance from the guilty party assessed the damage to our 2008 Ford Escape, they said it is a total loss and is going to be totalled out. Why did this supposedly safe SUV's airbags not deploy? We bought this auto because I have 3 daughters and wanted a safe auto for them to travel in.

We have had our'e 2002 Ford Escape in this dealership for a recall notice approximately 2 years ago for the accelerator cable and lift gate problems. They took care of it. Being a licensed auto technichian i had known about another recall causing the ford escape to catch on fire. This dealership had ran the vin for this certain recall and said it was clear with no problems. So two years went by and the ABS light comes on! On October third at about 3 P.M the ABS module catches on fire. Thankfully i was trained how to handle this situation. I ran into a near by business and asked for the fire extinguisher. I used all that was in the extinguisher. Because the battery cables were still in place the short causing the fire had still existed and had the business call 911. The fire department had cut the battery cables and assured me the fire was out. On top of this our'e insurance company would not send roadside service saying that fire was not covered on our'e policy. Four hours later after we get the car towed home we find out the policy does cover car fires. The excuse they had given me was there was nobody on duty to otherize and in there words they weren't sure what decision to make. They told us we had to wait untill Monday.

The airbag light came on in my 2002 Ford Escape and it cost $550 to repair the connector harness... seems like others have had similar experience, and that there should be a recall on this item.

I was in an auto accident in a Ford 2001 Escape on April 1, 2004. I was traveling at a speed of around 40 mph and skidded over 40 feet before striking a car who turned in front of me. The front of my car struck the passenger front of the other vehicle. My airbags did not deploy. I suffered neck and back strain as well as a pulmonary contusion. My vehicle has been determined to be a total loss. Why have airbags if they will not deploy when you hit so hard that your vehicle is totaled? I asked Ford to send someone to look at the car on April 19th. They said to send them pictures. If the bags don't work, then refund my money.

I was driving on I-77N before the Ghent exit. My 2002 Ford Escape engine began to knock. I pulled off at the exit and had the vehicle towed to Ramey Ford. They told me it needed a new engine. The vehicle had only 47,502 miles on it. I opened a case with Ford. It was reviewed and rejected. This little incident has cost the following: Engine $4388, Rental $175, Towing $75, Extra gas around $50.

As I was doing 40 mph down an incline my engine shut off and I lost power steering and brakes. If a car was in front of me there would have been a very ugly accident. This problem has been reported numerous times by other Ford Escape owners. I wound up on someone's lawn because of losing control of the vehicle. What does it take to have a recall on this before people start dying?

Purchased a 2001 Ford Escape in Febuary of 2001. Since I have owned the car the engine has been replaced. Since then I have an extended warranty that covers the power train offered free of charge in exchange for my suffering.

After experiencing some strange noise coming from under my brake pedal I have taken it in to the dealer to have it checked out, with this as my response: "We can hear the noise/whistling sound but we don't know what is causing it, therefore we cannot fix it" ... "of course it continues you never fixed it."

I paid $220 for my 33k maintenance just a week before and asked them to look into the problem only to be told the same thing: "Pads are good, not sure what the sound is and it's safe for the road don't worry about it." When I took my car back into the dealer to have the brakes checked once and for all, while at the dealer my key is not working, seems the "theft" mode is on. Turn off the alarm and try again ... nope. Service attendant pops the hood, attaches a battery charger, set off the panic on the remote and then turn it off and yes it works. Then he turns it off, never to get it started again -- the ignition is completely locked and the key won't even turn.

They push the car into the garage and call me 6 hours later to tell me I need a new dash and cluster for no less than $600 and $70 to reprogram the keys. After my initial shock, I am told that they still don't know what is causing the brake problem and that even if I reprogram the keys there is no warranty this will fix any of the other issues, also that they won't be able to warranty the work!

I am well aware of the normal wear and tear of a car but they should not have all the issues mine has had. I am fed up and can no longer afford this mentally or financially.

In November of 2001 I purchased a 2001 Ford Escape. At the time of the purchase the vehicle already had 1300 miles. In December of 2001 the vehicle was returned to the dealer for an inspection due to a chemical odor. Whenever the engine was started a chemical odor consumed the vehicle. When the car was taken to the dealer the mechanics could not find a specific problem. However, the mechanic agreed to smelling the odor as well. To this day the car continues to create the same smell when ever the engine is turned on.

Oftentimes the car cranks over and the engine does not start. On 1/13/03 the car would not start. After being serviced at the dealership the auto mechanic ruled the problem as being the result of a bad battery. Which is rather unusual considering the car is only 2 years old. The mechanic replaced the old battery and installed a new battery.

A month later the engine light illuminated therefore indicating the engine needed to be serviced. The car was returned and the service tech had mentioned that there was a malfunction with the sensors. Currently a problem still exists when attempting to start the engine. The car cranks over but does not start until the gas pedal is pressed several times.

After reading the Ford air bag horror stories on this page, I feel a bit silly writing, but want to voice my concern. I have a 2002 Ford Escape that has already presented with several problems. Most recently, the keyless entry/alarm system are not working properly, and Ford has worked on my car for a total of 8+ days (overall), with no results (aside from mauling the electrical system).

The scariest problem I am experiencing is a problem with the air bag light. It continually flashes or remains lit, and the service department at the dealer says "Oh those sensors are sensitive...could be the snow or the salt on the road..." The majority of my past cars had air bags, and not once have I ever experienced the air bag warning light going off. After reading the other posts on this page, about Ford air bags, I am becoming uncomfortable about my situation.

I bought a brand-new Ford Escape 2001. On August 16, 2002 the vehicle broke down on the Cross Island Pkwy coming from Long Island. The vehicle shut down on the highway while driving at about 50 mph, almost getting into a accident with my 6 year old son in the vehicle.

The vehicle ever since has been out of commission for almost 30 days. I spoke with the dealer and said I don't want that vehicle anymore, I am so fearful of that vehicle that I could never drive it again. I don't want to put my life and my family's lives in danger because this brand-new vehicle shuts off on me while driving it.

Purchased Ford 2002 Escape from Rockwall Ford, Rockwall, Texas on January 5, 2002. On July 15, 2002, took vehicle to Rockwall Ford with complaint that vehicle died while driving. Rockwall Ford ran diagnostics and informed me nothing was wrong with the vehicle. On August 9, 2002 took vehicle to Rockwall Ford with complaint that vehicle died while driving. Ford informed me there was a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) on the Escape and that hitting a bump in the road could cause engine to shut off (this is on my invoice).

Also informed me that key ring should not weigh over 9 ounces. My key ring weights 3 ounces. I talked with Kevin Renner this date and he informed me that Ford had placed "flight recorders" in some Escapes to obtain data. I asked if he would keep me informed as to status on Escapes with Ford. On August 14, 2002 sent certified letter to Ford Customer Relations in Michigan requesting vehicle be replaced.
