I own a 2005 Ford Escape. After hearing a loud banging noise, I checked the right rear wheel well, and was shocked to see that It is so rusty I can see the interior of my car. After doing some research, I have seen many others with the same problem. Ford had issued a recall through 2004 but from the complaints, it should have included 2005 and 2006. The part is not available for repair and the repair would cost thousands. I still owe for my car and cannot afford a new one. I have sent and email to Ford, but don't expect anything, based on their response to other complaints.

I own a 2010 Ford Escape limited. I was filling gas in last year and it would only take $4-6 worth and click off, resulting in no fill. I would have to do it several times manually to top off carefully and ensure I do not over fill for a spill over. In NJ we have attendants at the pumps that fill gas, one day the gas was gushing out of the tank as a result of an overflow while filling. I lost about 4-5 gallons worth and all the gas was flowing on the ground. I took it to the dealer and they said that a spider had created a cobweb inside. They took $100 copay from me and replaced the housing. Overall, I have been having a lot of issues with this nearly $29k truck. A lot of loss of power and gear shift issues. My transmission was replaced and I am still having the same issues over and over again. Please contact me if you have been facing similar issues and we could learn from each others experiences. Thanks.

Vehicle runs good, no problem with it. Freedom Ford has refused to fix any recalls. We fixed them ourselves.

I bought a 2005 Ford Escape brand new. I understand anything metal eventually rusts. I understand sometimes thing go to back order. What I don't understand is why a part was on back order for a year with the cost around 110.00, then just found out today that the part is now in stock but the new price is 707.05. Wow. I mean WOW, OR OUCH MY WALLET!!! So much for providing parts for their poorly designed vehicle at a fair price. Did I mention the left rear wheel house is 94.00? I think the government ought to look into Ford's pricing on this part for price gauging. Will never buy another Ford. Recommend anyone thinking to buy a new Ford - DON'T EVEN THINK ONCE, LET ALONE TWICE. GO BUY SOMETHING ELSE.

Annual inspection revealed the struts and shocks on my 2009 Escape were completely rusted out. My mechanic advised this a recurrent problem with Fords at the 5 year mark and he does a similar replacement several times per month. He also shared another customer had his tires blown out when the part disintegrated.

Average snowfall in these parts is <30 inches total a year and I do not drive in the snow. What gives Ford? This repair cost $1443.

My Escape 2006 has just now 80000 miles. I bought it used with 37000. Had to replace brakes and both front rotors, sway bar. Now I have to replace the rear wheel well housing to the tune of 1500 dollars. I have been waiting 2 months for this part even though they say there is no recall. Ford is a terrible company. I should have known better than to buy their crap. They also hiked up the price in that two months’ time from 160 to 707 for the part. So much for the government protecting the consumer. They protect the big companies like Ford.

I have read a lot of entries on the Ford 2010 Escape stalling in the middle of the freeway. This happened to me as well this past summer - several times while riding side by side tractor-trailers. I was literally frightened out of my mind. This is an issue with the throttle body sensor/mechanism/module. I initially took it to the Ford dealership in Dublin, OH, and was told it was an issue with the throttle body software (which I was told would need to be updated). After waiting for almost 2 hours to have this done, I pulled out of the dealership and went literally drove less than 500 feet and the same thing happened AGAIN!

I started, at that point, to do my own research and found out that Ford issued a recall under the following: Customer Satisfaction Program (CSP) 13N03. Under the recall, the entire throttle body sensor module is covered, NOT just a software update! The Ford dealership made me go to such great lengths to figure this out on my own. It should be criminal for them to be able to do this to consumers. If there is a recall, they should be MADE to tell the consumer even at the dealership - not just through a lousy recall letter, which I never received! The recall is good through Jan. 2015 or up to 150,000 miles or 10y following purchase (whichever comes first). So, if you have a 2010 Ford Escape with this problem, get it in ASAP!

Sunday, Nov 16th our power steering went completely out with an 'Electric Power Assist Fault' directly related to the recall. The car is in the shop and needs the power steering torque sensor replaced for $625. Ford is refusing to pay for the repair under the recall. They say the recall has been closed and was completed when they did the software update. We could have easily had a serious car accident due to the power steering fault and believe Ford should pay for it under the recall. If anyone can help us get Ford to pay for this, that would be awesome!"

My 2013 Ford Escape began losing power and "dying" intermittently right in the middle of the road. I took it to the dealership and they could find nothing wrong. It left me stranded so I talked to a friend who is a mechanic. He directed me to a "Technical Bulletin" that precisely described the symptoms of the problem. I took it back to the dealership. They then informed me that "no codes would come up" because the problem has been "elevated from a technical bulletin to a recall," but that he could not fix it because the recall wasn't ready and wouldn't be until the end of September. I asked about my options since stalling in the middle of the road is asking for a horrible wreck. The service manager said I could pay to have it fixed and then "try" to get my money back. He estimated $3-400.

About that time, I began hearing about the recall on the news. I called Ford and explained my problem. The person said they have a process for fixing things before the actual recall comes out and she would call the dealership. The dealership did as instructed, but was denied permission to fix the problem because they aren't ready. I called Ford back and the rep said she would "elevate my situation to region" and I would be called within 24 hours. I waited 3 days and called back. That rep said they are still reviewing my "unique" situation. I asked for a rental and he said they can't do that either because they haven't determined that that is really what's wrong with my car. I said two different people had "diagnosed" it, but he said there is no way they could.

I realized then that Ford has deleted the code that would diagnose it so that they don't have to deal with me or others who are already experiencing this dangerous problem. I said as much to the rep and he suggested (several times) that I just pay for it if I am so worried about my safety. In the meantime, my car continues to "die" in the middle of the road. Do I have to get rear-ended before Ford will take care of the problem? It has now been almost 3 weeks since my last conversation and they still have not contacted me or offered any sort of solution. Is there a class action suit on this. How can I get it fixed. I was also told the Regional Mgr attempted to call me and there was no answer or no answering machine. Flat out lie!

I financed a 2014 Ford Escape with 40 miles on it! After just over a year, I have had to take it in to the shop 4 times. The first time it was something to do with a wheel bearing making a loud noise behind one of the tires. The other time was due to some safety recalls. Now the vehicle stalls when I accelerate, engine light comes on and off. Vehicle will start after a several minutes but still very afraid to drive in the highway. I have taken it to the dealer and am waiting to hear back. Definitely thinking about trading in for a different manufacturer!! I am afraid (FORD) the dealer won't care about my situation and will want to buy back very low. This will put me upside down on the financing..ughhh!

We had the older box shape Escape and loved it. When the new Escape came out we thought that it would be really good on fuel after all the adds from Ford, and obtained it brand new. Really like the shape and inside of this car BUT it has more problems than driving pleasure. After it spend nearly 2 months at the dealer for a recall, it has been more at the dealer than at home.

First the navigation would just stop working leaving you stranded not knowing where to go, then radio would work but NO sound, only way to get it working would be to stop next to the road switch off the car open door and restart the car. This would only work sometimes. The problem with it right now is it would start and then just die on you, it also has no power. The local dealer has been really great. They changed out some sensor and thought that was the problem. Now it is even worse. Local dealer is giving up and also tells us that we are not the only vehicle that has this problem. We don't use this car to do long trips anymore as it is not reliable at all. It has only 24000 km on the clock.

What is really bad is that I am still paying this car but cannot use it as intended. I think it is time that Ford take this car back and give my money back so that I can get something reliable. I use to think a lot about Ford but after this fiasco it would be a hard sell to buy another Ford! I do not advise anybody to buy a Ford Escape!!! I also think that this vehicle is dangerous to drive as you have no idea when it will just quit on you. Also my V8 truck uses less fuel per Km than my not wanted Ford Escape. Worst part is that there is no real Ford Helpline just a bad circle within a circle that brings you back to the starting point with no solutions.

I have my oil changed every 3,000 miles. But in between oil changes I have to put oil in the car every time I fill up the gas tank. I have had the Escape back to the dealer numerous times. Now here's a clincher, I went to start the Escape and nothing - had it towed to the dealer and they said my timing chain stretched and the warranty company only pays for the chain. When asked why did this happen and I was told it just does no explanation. So now I owe for the repair. These motors should be recalled.

My 2011 Ford Escape has been maintained religiously. At 26,000 miles, it was in the shop and at 35,000 it was in the shop (Ford dealership both times) for emission related problems that were covered under the 36,000 bumper to bumper warranty. This week at 44,000 miles, the check engine light came on again. The vehicle was stuttering and spitting and barely moving as I made my way to the dealership once again. This time they told me it was the purge valve and the Carbon Charcoal Canister. Both parts and labor were $512. Even though this vehicle has an 80,000-mile warranty for emissions, these parts are not covered.

Here in Georgia (7 counties surrounding Atlanta) we have to have an annual emissions test on every vehicle. I can't pass emission testing without these parts because without them, it allows bad emissions into the environment. The federal Govt makes the manufacturers give a 80,000-mile warranty in part to help protect the environment. Why in the world would this part not be covered? This Ford Escape has been in the shop 3 times in 44,000 miles all for emission related issues..

I think it's pathetic that Ford offered me no assistance even though the first two times I was in there on emission related issues. Somehow, this problem is not related to the others. On top of it, Ford had my vehicle for 7 days before they called me to say the parts were not covered under warranty. I called them every day asking for an update. I think they know there is a problem with this part and they don't want to admit it. They spent 7 days making sure there would be no recourse on my part. In the end, They had No consideration for my time, my loss of vehicle for 7 days or my family's inconvenience.

2012 FORD Escape - On the way home from a shopping trip the windows began fogging up and we could not clear them .There was also a chemical smell permeating the car. I found out the next day that the vehicle with under 50 thousand miles would be needing an 830.00 dollar repair for a heater core box. The beige carpets in the front of the vehicle have also been ruined with a black liquid which won't come out. This residue is also all over the front seats. I want Ford to know that there would be a better chance of old Henry himself dancing a jig by his grave on HALLOWEEN than me purchasing another Ford.

I got this car new in Dec 2013. SE model with 1.6 Turbo motor. This is the smallest motor. I now have 20,000 miles on it. I drive almost all interstate driving. My first issues, during first thousand miles of driving were 1.) Rear Wiper fall off on highway, causing the arm to scratch the glass terribly. 2.) My car was going along then all of a sudden I smelled terrible smell of oil burning inside the car on interstate. I assumed was a car ahead of me, but turned out to be me. I went to oil change place, they pulled the oil plug and WHAM same smell again. They changed the oil. No further issues while driving but oil is a little smelly. Probably FORD uses CRAP oil at the factory and it was "burned up" by the Turbo Charger at 1,000 miles.

I got a lot of crap from the oil change place for wanting to change oil so soon. Glad I did. After that I had a 2,000 mile trip. I got on the road and drove about 4 hours, into dark national forest. Suddenly WHAT? a terrible smell of electrical motherboards burning, like when a computer fails. Car looks great, no issues with motor, no error lights, plenty of power. What was the smell? It smelled like something under the seats, which is where some cars have the air bag computer. Maybe that fried. In meantime numerous reports emerge of Ford Escape Burning up from overheating radiator, or from oil fires, electrical fires. I figured, well it’s still running, so I kept driving. Nothing else happened.

All during those first few thousand miles, always worried I would not get home alive. Then things stopped happening. I never had 4 wheel drive. I did get 4 new snow tires same day I picked up the car. Car goes fantastic in 4 wheel drive. I have driven through Watertown NY at 2 AM when there are no plows out, 2 feet of snow, to look at an emergency generator issue. NO PROBLEM! I carry about 600 pounds of tools in my car. My average speed is 70 mph. My fuel economy on what is called gas now, 26 MPG. I think that beats my old E250 Econoline which got 16 mpg. The Escape motor is too small. It has to run at 3,000 RPM most of the time which hurts the mileage. If I had a Buick 3800 V-6 in this car I bet it would get 30 MPG. Like my Park Avenue did doing the same thing!

For $29,000 price, I would not buy this car with my own money. It is a fleet car. I will give it extra special car until it gets to 5 years when they take it away, and hope for the best until then. Today I drive great and with 20,000 miles no fires, no rattles, great steering. But, you know how these computer cars are. The next day it could take a giant DUMP and Ford would tell us to pound salt.

2010 Ford Escape - I have had over a dozen parts replaced on my AC. I have had over 20 trips to my mechanic. I have had over 8 Freon charges. To date, over 1 year later, I still do not have a working AC unit. I've owned Fords all my life, I will never buy one again. My mechanics say I have clogs however, why is it then I sometimes have cold air and sometimes I don't. If there is a clog, then it should never work. I've had line sets replaced, compressors, condenser, etc, etc. I really don't think anyone knows how to fix this. Every time I go in I have a loss of Freon. Where is it going? Could this be the cause of my recent respiratory issues? Freon is toxic, is it escaping into my vehicle and I am breathing it in? If not, where is it going? I've had dye placed over 4 times and to date, no evidence of leaking. However, every time I bring it in, I am down at least a 1/2 to a full pound. I am hoping someone reads this that is experienced in legal issues regarding cars. My 70k car that is only 4 years old has a worse AC than my husband's 1991 Ford F150. I'm at my wits' end. I've heard that even replacing the system does not fix the problem. If anyone has had any success, please reply to this post.

I was told to get car to my local Ford dealer immediately (which I did) and their team would work directly with them. I spoke to dealership at end of day and they did not receive any call. I called back Friday morning to Ford, they were very apologetic and stated I would receive call by COB August 29th. Again, called dealership and they did not receive a call. During this time I had called my insurance company and found out this would not be covered. The repair will be between $1500-$2000. I called a third time late evening August 29th, same story, very apologetic and it would be escalated and everything documented but to call back this morning sat Aug 30th. Guess what, same story. All customer relationship managers were not in office and not return until Tuesday.

I am TOTALLY SHOCKED that Ford is not taking this seriously. My daughter could have been seriously injured or worse. No one can tell me anything, the dealership said they had never seen anything like this, all indicators for deployment were in tack, basically they have no idea why they deployed. My entire working life, safety was Job one and any issue that arose, red flags went up everywhere. Apparently this is not the case with Ford. What if today someone is killed by the same thing happening, I want some answers. I am checking them. I want an attorney to contact me about my complaint box only because it appears an everyday blue collar worker cannot get their attention. In conclusion, if own as in my case a 2005 Ford escape limited, you may want to have it checked out or at least report it to Ford. Thank you.

I didn't notice any issues because I didn't use my air conditioner much until summer 2012 when it got really hot and the AC failed again. A second dealer applied yet another band aid, likely just to get it out of warranty. It's now Summer 2014, and the AC doesn't work at all. One dealer performed a "system recharge" and "diagnostic" for $250, and it worked for 2 days, then went out again. Then another dealer tells me the condenser needs to be fixed, then the expansion valve, and another part - essentially the whole AC system needs to be replaced because one part disintegrated and ruined the whole system.

I pay the dealer $1100 to fix it... it works for the 2 days in the 70s, then when it hits 80+ it goes out again. Seems like a Ford design defect - Ford 4 dealers and no one has fixed it. From other comments, it sounds like the AC is a consistent problem for Ford Escapes. But instead of fixing the defect, Ford can make more money for itself and the dealers by making customers pay thousands of dollars in parts and labor to fix their AC systems. I'd love to join forces with other consumers and be part of a class action or at least multi-plaintiff suit... I would be more than happy to participate if contacted by a lawyer.

This Escape (Ford Escape 2009) has had problems from the first month I bought it and past consumer complaint resulted in a settlement at Ford Advantage in Stuart, FL where it was purchased over an $800 charge for a detailing service that did not provide its contractual services. Driving home from OBX to PA my husband was entering the highway (in VA) when the wrench light came on and the car started slowing down. He had absolutely no acceleration... He had his foot to the floor on the gas pedal. We made an emergency stop on the side of the highway and looked up what the wrench symbol meant. After sitting for a minute or so, he started the car, the wrench light went out and we were on our way. I did some research on my phone and found this was a known issue and Customer Satisfaction Program 13N03 was in place for the issue. We called the Dealership the following day and was told to bring it in the following week. I did that on Monday and was told that there were no codes stored on the computer of the vehicle and they were unable to replace the throttle under the program.

I fought with the Dealership over the issue and they stood behind their decision. Apparently the only way Ford will reimburse you for the Throttle Body replacement is ONLY IF THERE IS A CODE showing that it was the throttle body... P2111 or P2112. I refused to take the vehicle without them replacing it... paying for it myself. I am now fighting with Ford Headquarters to get reimbursed. It is also a known fact that after several "successful trips" according to the vehicle computer, that the codes will erase... which is why my vehicle was not showing any codes. I will continue fighting to get reimbursed for this known issue. My vehicle is a 2010 and only has 27,000 miles on it and up until this happened, I have been very satisfied with it.

By the way I got an estimate 786$ for a small spot. Then a couple weeks later I had a hole in my exhaust. Instead of paying 200$ to get it fixed I just had my cousin weld it for free. Well now I have another hole. My back hinge is rusting out. I have a leak in my back windshield that was there I'm guessing since I bought it. My control panel turns on and off by itself then sometimes when I want it off it stays on. And now I'm having issues with the wrench icon and my vehicle is running like crap. I'm so disappointed. After researching consumer reports and discussion groups, I see that this is a very common issue with Ford Escapes and is a fault with the AC system. A valve gets clogged, and everything is ruined - the compressor included. Given the social media comments and discussions, this has been ongoing since the 2007 Escape. Ford dealers are familiar with it and their hands are tied locally as FORD corporately has NOT recalled or assisted consumers with the costs associated with repairing a manufacturers design error. We purchased a 2010 Escape, 4 cylinder with automatic transmission. The shifting of the transmission has always been jerky but since it was this way on delivery thought this was one of the characteristics of the SUV. At about 80,000 miles the transmission was starting to hesitate then accelerate hard at even a stop sign. One evening my wife was entering traffic on a freeway. While accelerating to get to speed the SUV suddenly decelerated almost causing an accident on the road. She managed to get off the freeway just enough not to be in traffic. The vehicle was first towed to a dealership. It arrived Friday evening. We were told they would let us know by Wednesday. Wednesday came and went with no phone call.

I called them and was told that they only have one trans tech and there were multiple cars in front of us. It could take a week before they could even look at it. I called around to other dealerships and found it was the same story, many vehicles with transmission issues but only one tech. I called around and found a trans shop close by. I had the SUV moved to the new transmission shop. Two days later I was told that when they opened up the trans a solenoid had failed. This issue caused other damage in the unit. Since the SUV is so new they couldn't buy replacement parts from anybody but Ford, which they were surprised that all the parts I needed were in stock (I am not surprised probably a pretty popular item). The total for the repair, $3,000 dollars. The vehicle is not even 4 years old. I have owned many GM vehicles in my life. I never had a transmission go in any of them. We bought the Escape because GM stopped making the Trailblazer.

We thought we would try buying our first Ford vehicle. Horrible mistake, including the rental cars. This less than 4 year old vehicle has cost me around $3,800 for this issue, which after reading the other posts sure seems to be pretty common. In business I am told that the customer that is angry but continues to come to you are not the ones you worry about. The ones that say nothing to you but never come back are the ones that hurt. They pass word of mouth their story driving business away. I have heard the slogan "Ford, Quality is job one". From what I have seen on this site I don't think it is even in their top 5. I was reminded of another saying recently, Ford stands for Found On Road Dead.

In 2008 I bought a 2005 Ford Escape XLT for just over $15k. It had 24,000 miles. I never had one mechanical or other issue with my Escape except for the rear wheel rims rusting. When I first noticed the rust, I took it to a local body shop hoping they could sand it out and patch it with Bondo. Instead, I was told this was a well-known design flaw, that the water just sat above the wheels, which would cost $2,000 to fix as each rear panel needed replaced. I asked about any recall and was told there had been none to date. Fast forward to shortly after Christmas when I began to hear what I described as a "flp-whap" coming from the rear passenger side of the car. My husband took it to our mechanic who referred us to a body shop which told us we were looking at roughly $3,000 to repair the rusted damage to the rear wheel wells. I decided to trade it in.

My Escape had 62,000 miles and was mechanically sound and interiorly immaculate. I checked the Kelly Blue Book value (which all dealers claim is misleading and obsolete) and though my Escape was better than the conditions described in the "fair" criteria, due to the rust, I based my trade in value on the fair condition book value: $6,441 - $7,907. Re-sale of the same vehicle, for good condition, as a dealer would fix the problem at a much lower cost than a consumer ever could, was $10,321 - $11,426. I expected an offer right around $7,000 for trade. I walked out on the first dealer when they insulted me with an offer of $2500. The next dealer's "professional appraiser" took me outside to show me that the rust above the wheel wells was not the issue (an easy fix at $400 per side).

The issue was the shock tower -- totally rotted out due to rust. He said the vehicle was not safe to drive, it was a $4,000 repair and they would not be able to re-sell it. The "flap-what" I heard was the top of the shock hitting the body of the Escape. Afterward, my husband and I agreed that a fair offer for trade would be $4500. Imagine my shock when that dealer offered $2500 for a trade (I had e-mailed them ahead of time to explain why I walked out of the first dealership). I was ready to walk again. We dickered and the dealer came up some, but nowhere close to the $4500 I hoped for. I feel totally ripped off by Ford. $15,000 was a lot of money for me to spend on a vehicle and I worked hard to pay for that Escape, only to discover it was a great, big, rotting piece of machinery and basically worthless.

I was looking for a newer Escape, but after hearing from the dealer that he has seen the exact same rust issues on all Escapes up to 2008, I dumped the Ford product and traded off the Escape for a Chevy Equinox. I know I should be happy to have a newer and nicer vehicle, but I can't get over the feeling that I wasted my money on and was cheated by Ford.

The only "issues" our repair shop has ever faced with Escapes and Mariners is the rear shocks wearing out somewhat prematurely. The easy fix is to replace with a shock/strut that has a limited lifetime warranty. We have several customers that drive the crap out of these vehicles, with hardly any maintenance and if they break down, we've always been able to fix them and get them back on the road. These vehicles are ridiculously reliable. We see many with more than 200,000 miles on them. One customer has an Escape with 240K miles and the original transmission has just started slipping. The older Escapes (2007 and older) do not have throttle body issues whatsoever. It also irritates me when people claim that a wear item wears out sooner than they think it should so it should be covered under warranty. Seriously? Throttle bodies are a big concern, but your tires, battery or shocks? If you don't like replacing those things as often, BUY A DIFFERENT BRAND and for God's sakes, don't buy batteries at Walmart!

I have a 2005 Ford Escape. On March 27th, 2013, I heard a loud thumping in my rear passenger side wheel. On further inspection, the rear right wheel well was completely hanging on by a thread. The rear passenger side shock mount was completely rusted out. The integrity of the rear right frame, shock mount, and wheel well became dangerous and unfit for daily commuting. I checked my VIN on Ford's recall website. "Currently, there are no listed recalls for your vehicle." I telephoned Ford and notified them of the problem I mentioned that after a quick Google search I found hundreds of people reporting this same issue.

The Ford representative made it seem like everything posted to the internet was irrelevant because people have nothing better to do than make stuff up. I asked how is it that the same part on the same year, make, and model of vehicle had completely rotted out. The Ford representative evaded the fact that 1) There was even a problem and, 2) That other hardworking people posting the same problem to the internet even mattered or existed. I reported the issue to Ford and Office of Defects Investigation (ODI). I was issued a Case number from Ford to give to a local Ford dealership to post a request. I asked what the request did and basically would notify me IF the request would go through that I may be entitled for a reimbursement IF there is ever a recall. Best thing to do is have everyone report this issue.

I visited my local Ford dealership and was quoted an estimate of $7,000.00 to fix my issue. The Body shop Vehicle Damage Assessor said there are three panels which must be ordered and welded for the proper fix. One said panel is approximately $1,500.00 and the other two in the approximate ballpark of $400. After putting the word out via friends, I was made aware that YET another person I was acquainted with had the exact SAME problem in the SAME spot!

This person took their vehicle to a local Welding and Trailer Sales and Service shop nearby stating the fix was a few hundred dollars. I took my Escape to the shop and found that a few hundred dollars was precisely $761.00 in my case. I kept all my receipts, quotes and estimates. Finally, I was told by Ford that they would note my incident associate with my VIN and if ever a recall, they would motion for a request to comp some of the cost.

I feel it is dishonest to act oblivious of a known safety hazard. I feel that there should be standards of metals used in manufacturing and fabricating an automotive vehicle. I feel that if Ford will not compensate dealerships to repair this manufacturing defect that they should at the very least reimburse loyal customers who feel like they may be left hanging in debt.

Took it to the dealer, they hooked it up on the IDS computer, came back with codes P0732 and P0743 internal transmission problem. They said it would need to be torn down to find cause of problem. When I asked how much for that I didn't get an answer and he went to say how if they did that the transmission would already be out and open so fixing it at that point would be the best. After I asked the second time how much is when he said $2500 plus tax... could be higher or lower for the tear down and repair.

I declined and decided to take it to AAMCO. They confirmed the problem. They told me that the cost to rebuild the transmission would be almost as much as getting a remanufactured trans with all the problem areas upgraded and a 3yr 50,000 mile warranty, whereas a rebuild would only get 1 yr warranty. We ended up buying the remanufactured that was the better choice. At the end with labor, install and tax $2837.51. I emailed Ford prior to bring to AAMCO and didn't hear from then until 2 days before my wife's car was done. They call to ask if there was any way they could help but when I told them the Escape was no longer at the dealership they said there was nothing they could do.

I told them we could not afford to wait to hear from them and that it was a transmission specialist we took it to. They said that they cannot stand by the work an outside (non-Ford) shop does. I then told them how I knew Ford was aware of the problem because they had issued a service bulletin to its techs advising them of the problems because there are more than 1 problem with these transmissions.

End result no help from Ford and out $2837. This will be the last Ford I ever own. If you own a Ford look for recalls and service bulletins because the chances of them notifying you are slim to none. Oh and they just recently issued something: “March 4, 2014 The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has closed their investigation into throttle body problems in Ford vehicles after Ford agreed to fix about 1,600,000 cars and SUV's.” Apparently Ford doesn't want to call it a recall, and NHTSA says it's not a recall. Instead, they are calling it a massive "customer satisfaction program" that extends the warranty of the electronic throttle body (ETB) for up to 10 years of service or 150,000 miles. NHTSA opened the investigation in February 2013 after thousands of complaints about ETB failures in model year 2009-2013 Ford Escape, Fusion, Mercury Mariner and Mercury Milan vehicles. The affected vehicles are equipped with 2.5L and 3.0L engines that seem to stall and lose power.

I had purchased the vehicle when it first came out (April 2007) and put a lot of km. on the vehicle (over 240K Kms to date). These were my issues.

    1) Initially, the wiper blades were a new design and no after-market blades were available. They were dangerous in slushy conditions. Once, had to pull over 4 times on the 401 as I could not see. Dealer could not offer options. Took over two years for after-market blades to make it on the market.

    2) Vehicle fit with Continental Tires. Each time did tire rotation, (part of warranty maintenance) dealership comments were that the tires were feathering. Had alignment and balance checked a few times - always fine. Started to sound like a school bus. Dealership told me to call Continental. Continental told me it was an alignment problem. $750.00 dollars later in Yokohama Tires with over 100,000 kms and no sign of feathering. And no - they were not purchased through Ford.

    3) Common problem of black paint flaking off door trim - both sides. Paid for the one side, refused to pay when the second side started. Dealership hid behind their warranty terms as that part of the warranty does not last long. Called customer service - of no help.

    4) Once cold weather sets in, the gas pedal would stick when foot was off the pedal. Would have to kick the pedal to get it to release. First time I brought it in, I was told that couldn't happen - then came back (believe it was a throttle body) that they had to replace. (No longer a warranty item but they did replace at cost.) Next season, same problem, full price. Including the original, the vehicle is on its fourth throttle body - each one always being beyond the part's warranty period.

    5) Interior dome light switch went a few years ago. This is a switch that you set once and do not touch - industry has been making these for decades. Recently had it replaced and was notified by dealership that the design had been changed. The original design was prone to starting fires. Thank you for the recall.

The tragedy is I enjoy driving the vehicle and the appointment. I am disappointed that Ford does not stand behind its product. I have brought this to my dealership's attention, let them know that we were looking for a second car and that Ford will not being considered.

Do a Google search and you will see page after page of complaints of the exact same problem. Of course Ford claims there is no problem! My car has 84,000 miles. I ask you in 2013 should a car with a mere 84000 miles have to be repaired for $1500? It is obvious quality does NOT count at Ford. Ford has some beautiful looking cars including the Focus. However, I will never again buy a FORD. Never..... You need confidence in your car and you need to know that you got value for the price you paid. Ford failed me on every level...

Motor was running, doors locked, tires not moving when I got to it. Ford is saying nothing wrong with my car, must have been human error. I have several office witnesses that saw it parked running when I was in the office, it went from straight wheel direction facing my office, even weirder is I pulled in to my parking space from the east, it backed itself up to the west. I own a 2010 Ford Escape Limited 6-cylinder AWD. The SUV is a good vehicle and it does what I intend it to do. I usually operate off road with the vehicle and it is a great overall vehicle for that purpose. Just don't forge any deep water is my advice. The vehicle has great acceleration and it has a very good traction control system. I did experience an issue a few months back with the battery going bad about 54,000 miles and then the throttle body went bad at 67000 miles.

The battery is expected because I live in Tennessee on the border of Kentucky and it is usually 80-100s in the summer and 20-40s in the winter so the change in heat does have that effect on vehicles. The throttle body is a bigger issue though and very typical and many people on review boards state much of the issues I experienced. The throttle body is only $170 part, but the bull starts with over $300 for service just to hook it up to a computer to program it to the PCM and engine. Ford, if the part is prone to fail, then at least drop the price of the part and ease of the dealer hack off. It is literally 4 bolts...4 bolts and the part is off. Oh sorry you have to unhook the air filter top...and remove the plastic air inlet hose to the throttle body. So I did it in 3 minutes. So I am paying $5.00 a minute to work on my vehicle?

Recap: Part is made by Delphi...same people you have been having problems with the lithium battery in the new Boeing Aircrafts (i.e. battery fires). Part is prone to become faulty and costs $170. Ford dealership charges $450-$520 to fix the 4 bolt on part? Lastly, Ford I grew up in a family who built these vehicles in Cleveland, OH. I will always support Ford...but you truly keep making it hard to support this kind of crap. Get a new manufacturer for the Throttle body and at least give me a free oil change with the pocket book beating I keep taking.

We leased our 2011 Ford Escape in 2010 and were happy we did for the first year of the contract. Last winter, while driving the vehicle on clear roads, I noticed the engine accelerate on its own at a stop light. I kept my foot on the brake as hard as I could as the RPMs climbed. Three other occasions, the vehicle did the same thing without warning. One time I had to put the truck in park to avoid it moving off on its own. I took it to the dealer and explained the problem. Because nothing was indicated out of order on the diagnostic check, they claimed I must have been stepping on the gas by mistake! Really!

All was well until about a year later. My wife was driving the vehicle last week and it decelerated twice and stalled out. This time the check engine light and wrench emblem indicator light stayed on. Problem...Throttle Body and Motor. Vehicle was under warranty, so no charge for the repair. However, for a year this 2011 Ford Escape could have malfunctioned at any time and caused harm to my family and/or someone else. After a month of dealing with my vehicle not wanting to start sometimes and losing the power steering WHILE driving, I hope the Ford house has truly fixed the issue. I took my vehicle in a month ago and was told it was a bad alternator. So, at MY cost of $670, a new alternator and battery were put in. Then, a few weeks later, I went to start my car and there was a delay. Then, while driving it, I lost my power steering (almost getting in an accident while trying to turn). Finally, took it back to Ford again, where they said it was a bad alternator and they replaced it AGAIN. Not less that 24 hours later, the same exact issues started up again. And this time, I was 30 miles from my home.

I had to drive it back home hoping the power steering wouldn't go out yet again. So, back to the Ford house where they have had it for three days. They are now saying it is fixed and supposedly it was a bad grounding strap. So why was that not looked at as a possible problem from the first time I had it in the shop? And why wasn't it looked at as a possible problem the second time? I do not trust my vehicle anymore and am afraid of the power steering going out again. How do I trust that the grounding strap was indeed the problem.? I am a mom and I drive with children in my vehicle all the time. Losing my ability to steer my vehicle is so very dangerous.

We bought our 2010 Ford Escape brand new and now started having issues. Last month, I took it in for an oil change and told my mechanic about the issue I've been having and after $150 later, he told me it was the Throttle Body that needed to be replaced and it would cost at least $450. I couldn't afford it so I just let it be. My car continued to stall again a few more times and almost causing an accident. Two weeks ago, it finally shut off on me completely and I couldn't turn it back on so I had to get it towed to the dealership where I purchased it from. So after a diagnostic test and $160 later, they tell me it needs a new battery. I go ahead and get a new battery installed ($110) and we're good for a week.

This past Friday, it stalled on me 5 times in one day! I immediately took it back to the dealer again and they couldn't check it until today (Monday). I just got a call from them stating that it's the throttle body that needs to be replaced and will cost between $400-$500 to do so! And on top of that, it's not covered under the warranty which also means they won't cover the rental car I had to get! I think it's ridiculous that there still isn't a recall being placed on these vehicles considering all the complaints regarding the same problem I've been having. My wife and I are fed up and going broke from all this. We're now looking for an attorney that can help us with this because I think if we get some sort of lawsuit started, then maybe Ford will do something about all this and issue a recall. I don't think people should have to die first in order to sue them.

Very poor design! I have leased and purchased at least 30 cars during my life so far and never had this problem with any other vehicle. I have owned and leased about 12 Fords out of the 30. But this 2012 is leased and will be the last one I own. Also, parking brake is in a terrible spot, the vehicle rides like a truck, mileage sucks, not much power with the 4 cylinder automatic, transmission shifting is terrible. I can't wait to give it back to Ford and try a GMC, or Honda or any other model to be truthful. Sorry brother, even though you work at Ford it's not worth it even with the discount!

I have owned this car since 2001. Since owning it, Ford has replaced under warranty the Heater Core, Drive Shaft, Steering Wheel Column, and Airbag Sensors. On August 21, 2013, I was accelerating from a stoplight, and my car would not accelerate. I managed to get it over to the side of the road, and it was shaking, with a wrench light on. I turned the car off and restarted without a problem. The wrench light indicates a powertrain issue according to the Ford manual. Therefore, I took it to the Ford dealer who diagnosed it with needing a throttle body. This car is still under the powertrain warranty; however, this part is not covered under the warranty. It is a $600 fix for this issue. I have completed my research and found out that this is a common problem in Ford from 2009-2011. Why has a recall not been issued? This is a major safety concern as the car can go into "Safe" mode without warning.

I had just left work yesterday and was driving maybe 40 mph. My 2010 Ford Escape just died on me. I had driven but a half mile. I coasted into a parking lot, turned it off. I checked under the hood and all looked okay so I tried starting it. After some hesitation, it did start. I drove it straight to my mechanic. He could not find anything wrong so I picked it back up. This morning, it did it again when I was turning through an intersection, not a mile from my house. I was almost hit by an oncoming car. It did it again, on the highway, about 10 miles later. This time, the check engine light came on. I drove it straight to my mechanic because I knew he should now be able to pull something up on the computer. He was able to confirm that the throttle needed to be replaced. He did tell me to call the Ford dealership to see if there was a recall but there wasn't. He felt bad and gave me a great deal, $410, to replace it. Ford needs to do something!!!

Two weeks ago, I took my 2007 Ford Escape in to be serviced because the ABS light came on and the 4WD light was blinking. $283 dollars later, it was fixed by my local dealer, or so I thought. That was the beginning of my troubles with this vehicle.

Fast forward just 2 weeks later, 08/11/13, the vehicle started revving, shifting gears inconsistently while driving, and the O/D light came on and started blinking. Took it back to the dealer on 08/12/13 at 7 am, when they opened. I was told they would put it on the computer and diagnose the problem. They did not call me all day, but I called twice asking if they had gotten to it yet. I took the day off from work as well to get it fixed. The dealer called me late to tell me that and they could not get to it and it would be 08/13/13 before they could get to it. (Told me it would only take an hour to diagnose at 7am on day 1). They put me up in a rental car though for my trouble.

I originally purchased an extended warranty when I bought the vehicle which was effective until 75,000 miles and the transmission goes out just the month after I finally paid it off and 1000 over in mileage.

The dealer calls me back and says the transmission is shot and needs a complete rebuild, $4200 for my trouble. A quick search of the internet finds this is a common problem with Escapes and mechanics tell me its typical of the Ford Escapes. Again, for my trouble, the dealer (where I originally purchased it) could cut me a deal 10% off the trans repair. I also checked with other mechanics, who say it can be rebuilt for $1700. Wow, that's a big difference! I was so mad I just paid for the worthless diagnosis, and drove off the dealer lot. I won't buy from the Ford dealer in Greenwood, Indiana again, and definitely won't buy a Ford again!!

I had read about it stalling, so when I went to buy the car I asked specifically if it had problems stalling on the highway. Since it was a third party seller not the owner he told me that he was not told that it had any issue stalling. Well, a month later I drove the car for the first time from L.A. to Palm Springs and after an hour the car stalled on the highway. I was able to pull over safely and it restarted. I drove again and about 10 min later it did it again. I started it again. I had my husband look up the issue on the iPad. And he read to keep the car at 50 MPH... we did and made it to PS. Had to drive the same way home... putting on the hazards on inclines going 30 MPH.

I have no problem with it doing errands, picking up my son from school etc. as long as I do not drive over 60 MPH and do not drive more than an hour. So I have been able to get by, it's not exactly my idea of a dream car. I was hoping to find out on these forums that it just needed a tune up or that the issue had been resolved since 2007.... but as so many have posted, the issue is much bigger than that..... Shame on Ford! I for one am sending an email to the media... maybe we all should! Since it seems these forums have not done any good.

Our 2006 Escape now has its 3rd transmission. The car has 84,000 miles on it. The first transmission was covered by the warranty. The dealer replaced the transmission. Then, once the warranty was gone the transmission went as my husband was driving to work. Luckily he made it to a local mechanic. When I called the dealer where we purchased the car, they said they wanted to look at it because the local mechanic "could have done something to it". When I refused to bring it back to them - my thinking is since when does a transmission go twice in a car with less than 100,000 miles on it? - the dealer was very nasty and rude.

I called the Ford corporate office and the dealer franchise. Ford corporate said they could not help. I had my local mechanic fix the transmission and he gave me a letter stating that when he took the old transmission out, there were many bolts missing and it had not been put in properly. The Franchise offered to absorb a portion of the cost but I had already had the repair completed. They then offered an 800 dollar credit to be used at the dealer service dept. I told them I didn't trust them to not cause another problem that would be detected at a later date. They said they were offended that I would even suggest such a thing. I did not accept the credit.

In the last year the car has difficulty shifting when it is extremely hot or cold. We have to make sure the interior temperature is moderate to shift into gear! When we take it to the mechanic, he can't find anything wrong and the dealer simply tells me to bring it to them. We just replaced the steering rack - $1200 repair because my husband could barely turn the wheel as we were picking up items and preparing for my son's birthday party. The car is paid for and I was a lifelong Ford customer having only driven Fords since 1992 but I am done with Ford.

The throttle control light (wrench light) came on... we barely made it the side of the road, turned the truck off, waited a few minutes and tried again and all was normal. Took in to the dealer. They could not find anything wrong but then after my protest went into the office and came out said this issue had been noted, and they wanted to put a flight box into the truck to record the fault. Ok sounds reasonable but we would have to wait till one was available. I went home like any normal person and googled the symptoms, make, model etc. and found that there was already an investigation into the throttle body for safety recall and that this was a big issue...

A month has gone by and we haven't heard from them. Yesterday the same thing happened but this time it was in the middle of the intersection... scary... and it would not go back to normal... 8 start and stops to get back the block and a half I had gone.... The dealer sent a tow truck and there I was back on google. This time I read that the first investigation was closed but another was reopen as there were now 2 death attributed to this part failure. Having been about to go on a quick trip to the interior, I told my husband maybe we should be grateful we were not on the road. I continued looking and found article after article about the investigations.

I tried calling Ford Canada all day and after pushing this number and that number the call would just drop. So frustrated. It just cost me over $400.00 for the repair because apparently it is not under warranty or recall. I just don't know what to do. This is obviously Ford's issue but I am the one out of pocket. And how many people are out there unaware of the danger they are in? I don't know what I can do... but the squeaky wheel gets hard.

I have a 2012 Ford Escape that I purchased in October of 2011. Everything seemed to be fine. Good acceleration, mileage, etc. Problems began about 6 months ago when I drove to Florida from Oklahoma. When I stopped for a break and while the engine was still hot, I backed out of my parking spot and put the transmission into Drive and "clunk"! Felt like the bottom fell out of the car. It happened once or twice more on this trip. My first thought was that I may have hit the accelerator too quickly after going into Drive and felt it was driver error.

After this trip I didn't experience this again until lately when it happened again as I backed out of my driveway. It also hesitates badly during acceleration when it is cold and getting worse. Sometimes this hesitation is so dramatic, I can feel myself moving forward in my seat when it happens. Occasionally, I have noticed it hesitates at high speeds and feels like the engine is going to die. During these hesitations, the tachometer jumps to 3 or 4 thousand RPMs and then reverts back to around 2500.

I took it into the dealer and left it for 2 days. The service rep told me that there were no problems and that this hesitation is "normal"! They could not duplicate the transmission "clunk" and so I checked online to see if there were similar reports and, to my amazement, there are thousands of complaints similar to mine. My thoughts are now that I will be trading this car in before the transmission fails and I am stuck somewhere a long way from home where they will also tell me this is normal! Funny thing is, before buying this car I owned a 2002 Ford Explorer that was the best car I ever owned and never had "normal" problems. Sad part is, I may never own another Ford! Oh, by the way, I sold my Explorer to a friend and that car is STILL going strong!

One other issue that has to do with service. I called the service department on Thursday and made my appointment for Monday morning. I had to rent a car @ $33.00 per day. They called me Monday afternoon and told me they had no chance to look at the car and would need to keep it overnight. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and agreed. By 3:00 PM the next day, they called me again and told me my car was ready and they could not find any problems but, since my car had about 26,000 miles on it, it was about due for a transmission service at 30K and they would be happy to service it at a cost of $236! I refused this service. A rental car for 2 days for a "no problem found" issue made my blood boil! Especially since I had an "appointment"!

At first, my wife and I were very satisfied with our 2010 Escape, but as one's greatest fear came to life, the vehicle started these "issues" AFTER the warranty ran out!!!

First, it started with the engine light coming on. I had the codes read at a local auto parts store, and they saw it was an "evap censor" and stated this is usually associated with a gas cap leaking. Well, the Escape we have doesn't have a gas cap!!! It's one of those "quick fuel, Nascar-type systems", where there is just a plug that retracts when you insert the gas nozzle and retracts when you're finished! Secondly, the surging started happening while stopped at red lights. I would slide the gear into neutral, which would keep the vehicle from lunging, but you could still see the RPM's revving up and down. This issue went on for about two months. Thirdly, it is now stalling while driving 50 - 60 MPH down the highway. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to when it happens; it just TOTALLY shuts down the engine!!! VERY DANGEROUS.

With further research, I saw there was a "petition" out with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which I will definitely look into. I suppose my next step will be to take the Escape to the dealer and have them diagnose the hopeful "resolution" to the problem. I sure wish Ford would issue a recall for this. I've got a feeling this isn't a cheap fix that the consumer should have to absorb. My Escape doesn't even have 50K miles on it yet!!! I am so disappointed and frustrated with Ford now. I vowed to buy American when I purchased this vehicle, but I'm sorry, I just don't have the confidence in our manufacturers anymore.

Luckily, the part is under its powertrain and my warranty is valid for two more years. It's referred as drive-by-wire. When the throttle cuts out, it allows you to limp home. Local mechanic looked at it and thought it was a possible filter issue and checked the tranny fluid and it was good.

The next day, I was idling at a stoplight on a very busy highway when it died. I put the vehicle in park and it started right back up but would not go into gear (made loud grinding noise and the vehicle shook). After waiting and praying I wouldn't get hit since I was stalled on a highway, I had it towed to the nearest Ford dealer. At no point did my check engine light come on, and when I went through the information center to run through the system checks, it read everything was working. I was first told it could be the torque converter or the valve body - the service tech said they had to call Ford since it was only 2 years old and they couldn't believe there was a problem with it.

It turns out there was an "internal failure in the transmission; it was contaminated with metal shavings," and needed to be replaced. I stupidly did not call around for price estimates and ended up paying $4800 for a transmission on a 2-year-old vehicle that I just purchased. I was very rushed through the buying process and when the warranty issue came up, it was out of warranty but I could purchase an extended warranty but was told, "It's only 2 years old - what could go wrong?" The dealer refused to help me. I have called Ford twice after reading in my warranty manual, "Sometimes Ford may offer a special adjustment program to pay all or part of the cost of certain repairs beyond the terms of the applicable warranty." I have been told there is nothing Ford can offer me.

While driving on the interstate at 65, my car started to stall. I looked behind me to see three cars approaching at a high rate of speed and one being a semi. In my car were my 6-year old, my 10-month old, and my husband. It was the worst moment of my life. I truly thought we weren't going to make it across the lanes of traffic to the side of the road. As we were coming to a stop, the car, by this time, was jerking so badly my husband was a little freaked out. I turned the engine off, tried starting it and it slowing kicked over. We headed for home on a very nervous and long hour drive waiting for it to happen again, but it didn't, thankfully. On the ride home, my husband called the salesman who sold us the car last year at this time. He said, "What’s going on with the Escapes, and is there a recall?" The salesman claims he hadn't heard, but he would contact us on Monday. My husband also told him someone could die in a car like this, and he is not a fan of that so something better needs to be done.

Tomorrow is the day he is supposed to call us with some insight on what to do with this car. I do not want to drive it to work because to get there, I have to take an interstate and I fear this happening again. I paid way too much for this car and will continue to pay even if they decide they won’t fix it or can’t. That frustrates me beyond belief, that they can sell cars knowing this issue is happening and because no one has died or been badly injured; and that they don't have to deal with it. Am I wrong? Is there more to this than I have read over the last 24 hours?

Last week, the engine died, driving on a highway, 4 times (highway is about 50 miles long). Then, coming back home, it died going at 110 Km once again. I was able to pull off the road, saw the yellow wrench symbol on the dash and the engine check light every time the engine shut down. I shut off the engine, and restarted it again.

The following day, early, I drove to the dealership where they had it for one day testing. They said they found the problem and I was told it was the throttle actuator control system; it stuck? It must be bad gas, according to them. It's very dangerous and scary to drive. I'm beginning to dislike this Ford product because 2 months after I purchased the vehicle, this same part had to be replaced.

We purchased our Ford Escape new in 2011. It has 32,000 miles. In February, I was driving to work at 40 mph and the engine lost all power. The accelerator did nothing. I was able to pull off the road and turned off the engine. When I restarted it, it ran perfectly back home. I assumed it was a fluke. About 2 weeks later, driving about the same speed, it did the exact thing, complete loss of power and the little wrench light came on. This time, it took two start ups to get it going again. We took it to a Ford garage and they kept it 2 days and put over 50 miles on it trying to replicate the problem. They changed a part, guessing at what it was because nothing showed up on the scan codes and data monitor. They put in a cx2349 valve.

The car ran pretty good for about a month. Then out on a very busy highway, doing 70 mph, it cut out again. We were able to get over to the shoulder, stop, and restart the engine. It ran another 2 weeks. Yesterday, it lost power 2 times. I am very afraid to drive this vehicle. We have been a Ford family for years. Right now, our family owns 5 different Ford products. I've called the dealership with no response, and the Ford Motor company with an e-mail and a phone call complaint that lasted 20 minutes and I also called the National Highway Traffic Safety administration and filed a complaint with them. They are showing an investigation started in February about this issue. Someone is going to get killed before anyone listens.

I wanted a good reliable car for this long haul. The first time it did it, it just stalled, and had a little wrench pop on the dash. I shut my car off and then turned it back on and it seemed fine. I looked up that symbol and the manual said to call the service center, Town and Country Ford in Evansville. I called them and the mechanic said it could have just been a bug in the air filter and to call back if it did it again. So I was in the middle of pulling out onto a busy highway and it just stalled. I almost got T-boned before I could get it off the road. I shut it off and made it to work. I decided I would run fuel injector cleaner in it and got gas. I went to pass someone on the way home and it did it again. I do not want to be the one who dies before this problem is fixed! I took it to Town and Country Ford and they have no idea what is wrong with it. HELP! What do I do now??

We were informed that since the check engine light had not come on, there was no log on the vehicle's computer as to what had been faulty. Then, one day, the light came on and stayed on for a short period of time. Our mechanic checked it out and told us it was code P2111 which was the throttle actuator control system stuck open. He replaced the throttle body assembly and my wife hasn't had a problem for 6 months. Ford refuses to acknowledge that this is a faulty part. I hope this helps someone.

The engine was still running. I still had use of power steering and breaks, just no acceleration. I coasted my car across two lanes of traffic and came to a stop in a safe spot off to the side of the road. The small wrench light was on on the dash. I checked the owner's manual to see what it meant. I then called my husband. I shut the engine off then started it again. The light went out and the car seemed fine. I drove the rest of the way home (10 miles).

The next morning it happened again twice. I did the same thing except the second time, the engine light came on so I parked it and had a tow truck take it back to the dealer. They now tell me the part is on national backorder and have no idea how long it will take to fix. My warranty only covers a rental car for ten days. Now I have to pay for a rental. I also have to pay full coverage insurance and a car payment on a car that should have been recalled before I even bought it. I feel that FORD should own up to their liability on their vehicles and take care of the consumer who has had loyalty for so many years.

The door hit a brick fence, the inside panel broke and cut my son's leg badly (10 stitches inside and outside). I reported this issue to Ford. The car had 265 miles and I just bought it the Saturday before. Land Way dealer (Auburn, MA) told me that they are not responsible and I have to put a claim with Ford. I did and now they say I have to pay for my rental because they don't know if this is a mechanical issue yet. It may take 2-3 months and I am responsible for the loan payment (Car is financed) and the rental car at the same time. Service Dept. at the dealer treated me as a liar and I am making up this story. Service manager told me that if I don't have money to deal with rentals to cancel my claim and have my car fixed. A police report was submitted; the accident is true and what happened with my son is true, ambulance and hospital service were involved. I am not taking the same car until Ford has certified that the car is safe.

2004 Ford Escape Stalling Issues - Starting in 2012 and now recurring 2013, the car turns over and will not hold an idle. As soon as I release the break to put the car in gear, it stalls out. Last year it would then not turn over and would act as if the engine was flooded. After sitting for 30-60 minutes, the car would start. This problem would occur when I would perform short multiple trips around town. This year the car starts, but will not hold any RPMs. It will keep starting, but will stall out. Each time I have called the dealership, Steve Marshall Ford, of course the car starts fine for them. They have never found any problem with the vehicle and have never acknowledged that this is a problem with this model. But apparently it is, if the posts I have found on the internet are to be believed.

Again, last week, they said there is nothing wrong with the vehicle. I picked it up Thursday. It sat all weekend as I was away. Then today, after running 2 quick trips, it died again. I have taken it to an independent mechanic hoping he can solve this issue. Needless to say, next week I'm buying a new vehicle and never ever will it be a Ford!

When I turned on the AC for the first time this year, it made a loud grinding noise for a few seconds, then never cooled. I took it in to the dealership to check and for regular 45,000-mile maintenance. Dealer called and gave the following description of the problem: "In the AC dryer, there is a filter bag with little blue balls of desiccant. It seems that it is a very common problem that these filter bags burst and flood the entire AC system with the balls (aka 'debris') which causes all the parts to fail and/or clog. Many of the parts can't be effectively flushed so they have to be replaced." The cost to replace the entire AC system (all valves, tubes, hoses, evaporator, compressor, condenser, accumulator, dryer, etc.) came to $2,022.65.

This dryer unit that is causing all the problems is a non-serviceable unit and is in no way affected by regular maintenance, and there is nothing that can be done to prevent a failure. The cost of this part alone at national parts stores (Advance/Autozone, etc.) is around $30. This very inexpensive part, however, causes extensive damage to very expensive parts. I would call this a "manufacturer's defect". Also, the replacement dryer used in the $2,022.65 repair is identical to the one that failed.

Ford has had many complaints about this, but "not on a scale where we're willing to look into this". On a vehicle with so few miles, Ford is definitely losing customers for simply failing to design a better filter for a $30 part.

I bought a new car, 2010 Ford Escape, for fear of my older car breaking down, as my new commute was mostly highway travel. First engine stall on major highway S-287: While traveling in the middle lane, while traveling up a hill, my engine died, as I slowly peaked the hill on my car's own inertia. I just missed getting slammed in the back end by a tractor-trailer due to my sudden, unexpected loss of power. I finally made it to the side of the road, alive and by some miracle, I didn't get hit. I called AAA and they arrived to assist. They asked me if my car started and I said yes. The recommend I drive it home, but stay in the right lane in case the car stalled again.

The car was brought to the dealer the next day, as I refused to drive it until it was fixed. The dealership replaced an electronic part via a part recall, 2010 Ford Escape throttle body recall. I thought my worries were over. Keep in mind, when the weather is bad, I work from home as to not put myself at risk driving. Second engine stall on major highway N-287: Barely six months later, on the same highway driving North bound, my tachometer jumps to 4 (normally a little over 2), yet the car isn't really running, no response when I hit the gas. Again, I coast the car to the side of the road. I turned the car off. I started the car; it didn't sound right (like the car was really running). So I turned it off again and waited a couple of minutes. The second time I turned the car back on, it seemed to be back in its normal state.

This car frightens the hell out of me. If I could afford to replace it, I would. I waited 10 years to buy a new car to make the mistake of buying a Ford, that decides to shutdown whenever it chooses to. It's one thing for a car to fail due to a flat tire but to have a car repeatedly die for no apparent reason is shameful. Most people buy new for the reliability factor.

While this was covered by warranty, it took 6 weeks to get my vehicle back from the dealer as parts were back ordered. After that, one of the front brakes fell off, supposedly a result of being put together improperly from the transmission repair. Again costs covered but a royal pain. After that, one more trip back to a dealer because of another transmission issue. This time, shifting problems. After some reprogramming, that issue seems to be mostly resolved but I still will get an occasional clunk.

Next up, a new condenser unit. This time, about $900 out of pocket. There didn't appear to be any rock or impact damage, just failure. Next up, failed power steering unit. Apparently, this requires completely removing the steering column and about $1,400. The power steering appointment is just being scheduled now. I'm hoping that will also address the high pitched whine I'm getting from under the hood. I'm not holding my breath and am hoping it’s not an issue with the 4WD unit. On two separate occasions, I drove it and it shut off on me. I could not believe it; I was lost for words. I brought it back to the dealership and they placed their computer diagnostic in it, which stated nothing was wrong and they told me to continue driving it. The reason it may have shut off is due to a batch of bad gas or condensation in the tank. Therefore, I keep the tank full at all times and only put in gas from well-known gas stations such as Esso and Petro Canada. I find that the car shuts down during acceleration and deceleration. Could there be an issue with the throttle or fuel line? Has anyone experienced this nonsense? I paid 30 thousand dollars for this vehicle and I am afraid to drive it. Also, the hands-free tailgate option only works about 40% of the time. These are all options that I paid additional money for! I expect them to work!

Now my vehicle has leaks in the interior. I brought the vehicle in for service and repair, and nothing could be done as they could not duplicate the concern with a hose. Again, I was in a disgusting rental vehicle for another 10 days. My vehicle was then returned to me to wait and see if the leak appears again. Of course, the very next day the stain appeared again. Now I have to leave work again and drive in a disgusting rental car again for God knows how long. Also, while my vehicle was at the dealership, it was damaged on top of everything else. Now I have to have the body repaired!

I don't have the time and cannot take more time off of work to deal with this! I find this to be unacceptable for a new $35K vehicle. The car has been in the shop longer than I have driven it! I am making car payments on a vehicle I haven't been able to drive! This vehicle is a lemon and I want an exact replacement vehicle ASAP. I will be contacting the BBB as well. This morning while driving to work, my 2010 Ford Escape shut down again. I coasted to a stop and started it right back up. My fear is being on the freeway when this occurs. Ford knows there is a problem, but I've seen no acknowledgement.

I rented a Ford Escape in 2005 and loved it, so I decided to purchase one (2010 Ford Escape) in late 2009. Early on, I was disappointed that I had to have the transmission replaced at 7,400 miles. Even after that was replaced, the car was fussy. The gas pedal was temperamental, and when I tried to accelerate to pass someone, the car would actually pull back instead of going faster. It felt like things were slipping, somehow. My car would idle roughly or so slow that it would almost stall at a stoplight. The dealer said that there was not much that they could do with it.

A few days ago, I was driving in the middle of traffic and the car just died. Thank goodness that the car behind me had a chance to pull around. I was able to coast the car into a parking lot. When I put it in park, the throttle went wide open and the wrench light came on, so I turned it off. When I turned it on again, the wrench light was still on; the check engine light came on, and the car jerked all around the lot. I shut it off again and the wrench light reset, but the check engine light stayed on. After reading many other reviews, it seemed like it was the throttle body issue. I explained this to the dealer and they did say that one of the throttle codes hit, and that there was a bulletin out on this issue, but not a recall.

I have no complaints with the dealer. They were very helpful and have replaced the throttle body and motor, and did a fuel system flush. I have only driven it one day so far and it seems to have taken care of the problem. I couldn't believe that there has not been a recall on this issue because this could put lives in danger. I would think twice before buying an Escape.

We bought the 2008 Ford Escape Limited 2WD back in 2010 with 75k mile and the vehicle was certified by Ford dealer. The reason we got the car was to help US market, because with the money we paid ($18,000), we could have gotten a Japan import car. Yet, of course, I like the car! Since we owned this car, we have been servicing it on schedule (never past due), mostly highway mileage. On 10/17/2012, the wrench light was on at 114k. Luckily, the car took us home safely. The next morning, we took the car to local dealer. I found out the Transmission and the water pump needed to be replaced. It would cost us around $4,500 to get everything repaired. So sad.

I took it to the dealership where I purchased it and they said it was a computer problem and called Ford in Dearborn. They in turn reprogrammed the computer and said that was the problem. In September, my wife had the same problem where the engine completely shut down. Again, I took it to the dealer. They could not find any reason for the engine to shut down again. They wanted to keep the car and drive it to see if they could duplicate the problem. They drove it overnight and no problems occurred. I am fearful that this car will shut down again in a place not so safe.

2008 Ford Escape Hybrid - After driving about 500 miles on an interstate highway, the red triangle signal and message, 'Stop safely,' now appeared. The power had shut off. Fortunately we pulled over on the shoulder. We waited for a while and restarted; it did and stalled again about 30 minutes later. Since it was after 8 pm and about 100 miles from home, we did not want to get stuck and kept driving on the frontage road, then back on the highway when that road ended. We drove slowly and stayed on the right lane. The engine kept stalling at different intervals, sometimes 45 minutes, sometimes 15 minutes. The length of time we stopped did not seem to make a difference. This was a very scary trip. I brought the car to the dealer the next day. They say the cooling pump is bad and must be changed, over $1100 and it's not covered by warranty. This is an expensive and very dangerous problem. Why shut off the power?

2012 Ford Escape Engine Stalls at Random Times: We bought the car new this year in May and have been happy with it, until the stalling issue started. It's happened to my wife three times now. Two times sitting idle at a light and once merging onto an interstate. I just had it happen to me a little while ago when I stopped to make a left turn. I felt a thud and thought someone bumped me from the rear. Then, I realized the engine wasn't running and the battery light was on. I started right back up and went on my way. I'm taking it to the shop in the morning and crossing my fingers. From other reviews on here, there is not a very good track record of finding the problem.

My car sat in the shop (a sister dealership because mine closed its doors) for close to 60 days because the car was so new they did not have the parts even made for replacement yet. Strike one. Within a few months, same thing happened with the rear passenger window - and then a few weeks later, the front passenger window. Each repair was $300 to $400 -clearly a Ford problem, but they're not fessing up. My daughter is a student, has a summer job in retail, and this cost her 3 paychecks this summer. She's 20, and is likely to buy at least half a dozen new cars in her lifetime - all of them Toyotas. Anybody listening, Ford? Rear Wheel Well Defect - I am writing to inform you of quality concerns of Ford vehicles. I have written Ford representatives of my concerns regarding a factory defect to my 2004 Ford Escape XLT, but they have refused to look into it and have basically said sorry about your luck! I feel betrayed and I am now ashamed to drive a Ford vehicle. I am not writing to them complaining about paint chipping or something silly like that. My vehicle has a factory defect that everyone I have talked to has never seen before.

What do those representing Ford do about this obvious defect? Nothing! My Escape XLT has a rear wheel well that has rusted completely through because it wasn't properly sealed and coated during manufacture. The strut is loose and coming into the inside paneling! The auto body shop that I took the vehicle to says they have never seen such a thing in 25 years of body work! I have called, written, and I pleaded with Ford representatives to help me get it fixed, but have only gotten the company line about warranties to date.

I want Ford to help me by reimbursing the cost for me to fix it or allow me to bring it to them so they can fix it. It is obvious that they didn't properly coat or seal the inside of the wheel well! Thus far, it looks like I am going to eat the 1,000 or so dollars to fix this defect that Ford refuses to look at. Ford says it is past the warranty date, but shouldn't factory defects never have an expiration date? Shouldn't a good company say, hey that defect is our fault and we will make it good because we care about the quality that we put on the road!

Thus Ford is company that does not stand behind what they manufacture. This is not the only problem with the vehicle though. It doesn't always start right away. I went to Ford Service Center and they couldn't figure it out. They said maybe it is the fuel pump, but it has been going on for 4-5 years! The clear coat came off the hood around 2007. The ABS sensor went out and the Ford service center said that will cost 1,000 dollars to fix! I have contacted Ford numerous times regarding the rear wheel well, but they won't do anything about the obvious factory defect that has shown up years later.

Thank you for listening to my concerns. I hope that bringing these issues to your attention will help others know more about how Ford treats their customers after they drive off the lot or at least help them to be aware of Ford's customer service. Thanks again for your time and listening to my concerns.

Recently, when driving on the highway, our car would not go up a hill. It was jerking and making noises. It wouldn't go into passing gear and we almost had an accident when this happened. My husband knew it was the transmission again and called Ford, the corporate office, and they would not do anything until my husband had it diagnosed at one of their Ford dealerships here in Pittsburgh. We called the nearest dealership to our home and they couldn't even see us for more than 2 weeks. Our warranty had run out because it was over the 60,000 miles. So we waited and then they diagnosed it and it was the transmission again.

They told my husband that the corporate office would only pay 30% of what the bill would be, but they would not give us an estimate of what the cost would be. So I guess they can jack up the bill 30% so we pay the full cost. Through all this, we had to buy a used car so we were not without a car to go to work. Not a Ford thank goodness, a Buick 1999 and it runs better than any Ford we had purchased. They at Ford should have rebuilt this transmission again for nothing, because their service people did not do the job right 2 years ago when the car was only 2 years old. We should not have to replace a transmission every 30 thousand miles. We will never buy another Ford and we intend to tell as many people as we can about their terrible customer service.

I purchased a 2011 Ford Escape and it has had transmission problems since the beginning. In December of last year, I took it to Fuccillo Ford in Seneca Falls, New York and they drove it and told me it had a problem and to bring it back for an extended period so they could evaluate. After two days, they told me that they reset the computer and to let them know if the problem continued.

For the next two months, I drove the vehicle and it continued to shift very hard when I was coming up to stop signs and slowing down (riders would even notice the transmission). One day, I was stopped and was backing into a parking spot, I put the vehicle in reverse and it banged very loudly, I immediately called Fuccillo and told the service department that the transmission problem was still there. He asked me how many miles I had on it and then informed me that I had only put 5,000 miles on since the computer was reprogrammed, I should continue to drive it. It sometimes takes up to 10,000 miles before the problem stops.

Very recently, the "check engine" light was lit and I was still having transmission problems so I called Fuccillo Ford again and they told me to bring it in on Saturday and to leave it all day. I left it and in the afternoon when I called them, the service guy told me that there was definitely a transmission problem and that the check engine problem was a fuel vapor leak that they could not find. Could I bring it back the following week, so I agreed and dropped it off on Monday night. Late Tuesday afternoon, I called them again and asked what they found and they told me that there was definitely a transmission problem and that they were going to order an "arm" for the transmission and could I leave it another day so they could talk to Ford and see about getting me a vehicle to drive while they fixed my car. I agreed and told them I would call the next day.

When I called the next day, I was told that there was nothing wrong with my Escape and that I could come and pick it up. I said to the service department, but you told me yesterday there was a problem. They told me I didn't know what I was talking about. This was crazy, why would I have brought the car back, if he hadn't told me on Saturday, there was a problem. They flatly lied to me.

I highly recommend to anyone thinking of buying an Escape, don't buy one. My husband and I were thinking of upgrading to a 2012 Ford Explorer, but since we have had these issues, that isn't going to happen. I will buy anything but a Ford. Luckily, my husband and I have good jobs and have a bit of equity built up so we are going to trade as quickly as possible.

This is none of Fords business, nor should I be subjected to a customer service representative, whom I can only assume does not have adequate medical training to make a judgment as to whether my son's condition truly requires me to park the car in the car. It is completely unacceptable for Ford to tell me they know my vehicle could catch on fire but not to worry about it, just park my car outside. I finally filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau. Fold Consumer Affairs Legal Analyst Tanya** informed me there were no rental funds associated with this recall and I would simply have to wait until the necessary part was available.

There is tremendous talk about the success of the car companies. This is travesty and an utter failure of our system. My husband grew up in Detroit and is a cheerleader for the success of the automotive industry. It unconscionable that Ford sent out 245,000 letters in mid-January advising people to park their cars not only outside, but well away from a structure until sometime in late Spring when the part can be replaced on their vehicle.

I am requesting Ford either repair my vehicle immediately or provide me with a comparable rental vehicle until the necessary part is available. I am hoping someone in your office can assist me and the other quarter of a million car owners whose personal rights are violated. Ford apparently believes their contractual obligations give them the right to impose on people. I wonder how many auto executives are driving around in Ford Escapes which have not been repaired? Please let me know if there are other resources I should attempt to resolve this situation.

I bought a 2010 Ford Escape in June, 2011, as a pre-certified owned car, with a new car warranty on it. Twice in the last two months, it has stalled while I was driving it. It never dies, but it won't go. The last time, I was alone at 10:00 at night, going 70mph, and the car quit going. Both times, I have been told they can't find anything wrong with my car. I won't trust this car again. As smart as Ford is, you would think this could be resolved.

We have a 2010 Ford Escape. We have had many problems with the car so far and no longer wish to keep the car. We have had it in so many times for repair. I should have just kept my old car instead of buying new: 1) rear window exploded, 2) transmission slams in to gear, 3) stalls while driving, 4) rack and pinion went bad, and 5) Ford knows there is a problem with the transmission (their words!). But they do not know how to fix it yet! Meanwhile, I’m paying out my ** to pay for a piece of junk. Ford should do the right thing and buy it back from us, but they won’t. I just hit 30,000 miles last week and the problems started when we bought it. It’s the last Ford I’ll ever buy if they don’t make it right. But I already know they won’t because they told me they can’t. That was the corporate office too. I’m thinking about trying to have the news do a story on them. Maybe that would get Ford’s attention.

Today is the fourth time my 2010 Ford Escape engine has shutdown. Luckily I was in the right hand lane of I95 and was able to pull over. The thought of losing all power in the center lane of I95 scares me to death. I've taken it into Apple Ford Twice. Once they said they fixed it and the second time they looked at me like I was crazy, there is nothing wrong with your car. (I think that is the female thing with the mechanic, because I am female I am car **.) I now have no confidence in my Escape or Ford and I am stuck in a 20k loan. I am currently searching for a trade in deal where they pay off your loan.

I bought a Ford Escape in September of 2010. It was a 2009 model. On Christmas Day we were driving on the interstate and the car suddenly shut down. My husband was driving and managed to get it off the road. He turned the car off and waited 7-8 minutes then restarted it. We took it to the local Ford dealership and they ran a diagnostics test and said they could not find anything wrong. A month later I was driving down a main road in my town and the car went from 60 mph to 5 mph in a matter of seconds. It shut down again. We have now taken the car in again and the dealership is telling us they can't find anything wrong. This has scared me to the point that I don't even want to drive the car again.

Very upset, we bought a 2011 Escape, and we said it was leaking oil and needed a 24,000 oil change. We brought it in and they said, no oil leaking, I asked if they could take me out in the vehicle before I leave. They said no it was to slippery outside. I left, that night I was on my way with my baby and my 4 year old son to gymnastics driving down a hill I had to turn right I went to press on the brakes and they gave out on me, I tried everything,I thought we were going to die! I was panicking, trying to put the car in Neutral or even in park, the car kept going it would not stop. Thank god there was a angel in the vehicle, because all the cars in front of me were going straight, I turned and finally went far on the side ten it slowed down and finally came to a stop. The tow truck cam brought it to the dealer. The next day Jim Keay Ford, Ottawa Ontario, said it was cause I went into a puddle that is what happens. I think they did something to my vehicle now, they want me to get a new vehicle, which I would lose money from this one. What do I do? They said to come into the dealer tomorrow to get the deal.

I am now, for the second time, having to put a new transmission in my Ford Escape. Absolutely ridiculous. I can’t even believe it. Complete **. I think a class action lawsuit needs to be filed against Ford for all these transmission failures.

My 2011 Escape, 4cy 2-wheel drive automatic bought Dec 2010 started vibrating in Sept 2011 (~15,000 miles) when stopped at a light or stop sign in gear at idle with my foot on the brake. I brought it to the dealer. They replaced an engine mount (so they say) but the vibration is still there. If I put the escape in neutral, the vibration gets acceptable. I understand there is going to be back pressure vibration but this is beyond what I would consider normal. The dealer says that it's a normal operating characteristic. It didn't vibrate when I bought it.

This is my third Ford car with transmission issues. Ford won't do anything to help. They are saying they haven't gotten complaints on this. I had my car back to the dealer a few times when I first got it and they told me it is a learning engine and that is how it rides.

I called Ford to see if they would take responsibility for this defective part and pay for the repair this fifth time! They said since it is out of warranty, they will not cover any charges. I have to continue to pay for a defective part. I will never purchase a Ford again, and will tell everyone I know about the poor quality and customer service offered by Ford.

I am very disgusted with my new 2011 Ford Escape! I saved for years to have a new car. I am over 60 and always had used cars. I bought it because it was to get 28 miles per gallon and is a flex fuel vehicle, which means that I should be able to use E-85 which in SD is much cheaper than regular. I have only used E-10 in it. The dealer is a friend and told me not to expect 28 MPG at first, it might take 1-2000 miles to break it in. After 5000 miles, I was still only getting 21 MPG.

Now at 10,000+, I finally made it up to 23 MPG! That doesn't sounds like 28 to me! Also, you should know that I live in rural SD, 50 miles from the nearest stoplight! 99.9% of my driving is open road. I did take it back to the dealer to see what was wrong. They checked it thoroughly and found nothing, but said maybe it would be better at 20,000 miles and that I should put premium gas in it. That is not the point! I bought it to save money, not spend it all at the gas station. If the Escape won't get 28 MPG, then Ford surely shouldn't be advertising that it does! If I could afford it, I would trade it in for a car that would get the kind of mileage that I need.
