I’ve purchased several high-end cars through BaT, but twice now, I’ve had absolutely horrendous experiences. Sellers failed to send me the titles, deliberately made errors to prevent me from transferring the car into my name, and worst of all, BaT has no proper human-driven escalation process to protect buyers. They hide behind delayed, unhelpful email responses. It’s been months, and I still haven't received a valid title for a luxury car I paid for. I wish I could cancel and get my money back, but BaT has provided no meaningful assistance. People should steer clear of this broken business model.

BAT will not list a car with a reserve price that is close to what it is worth. They only make money if the car sells, so they will lowball the seller on the reserve to make sure it sells, even if the seller loses a large percentage of their value to weak bidding! I tried to use them to sell a car that has comparable cars listed online right now for prices between the high 50ks and high 70ks. My car is a mint condition example with less than 20k miles, fully optioned, and clean, with factory accessories like car cover and battery tender. BAT refused to list it unless I lowered my reserve bid from my stated 60k down to 45k, which is 10k less than any other listed comparable car on earth.

Their representative told me "don't worry about the low reserve, the market will set a fair price" and then sent me a listing of a comparable car on their site that had bid to 57k but NOT sold, due to a higher reserve. Obviously that owner had also been unwilling to sell their car for so cheap a price, just so that BAT could make their commission money regardless. The fact that BAT will deny to list a car just because it is not sold at bargain sale prices is indicative of a dishonest and untrustworthy company.

Seems like there is discrimination at work in the selection process. I own a classic 1979 Cadillac hot rod with close to $200,000 in documented improvements that was turned down by BAT. They would not allow me to post my car for sale and offered no logical explanation. My car was originally owned by my grandfather who purchased it new in 1979. It was passed down to my mother, father and brother before finally making its way to me. I invested a ton of money and spent more than 10 years customizing the car, using the best of everything available. I have a professional appraisal and receipts for every penny spent. hey claim to carefully curate every car on the platform, yet there are multiple cars similar to mine but no where near as beautiful. Makes no sense and the worst part is the lack of professionalism in simply providing a clear policy detailing how the selection/qualification process works - because it doesn't.

On August 19th I purchased a car that was represented by Autosport Design of Station New York. It is apparent the dealer didn't represent the car with full transparency. When I received the car it was running poorly. I then had the car inspected by a professional Mechanic. He discovered the following; a push rod through the rocker arm. Service tire rubbing due to oversize rims on both front and rear. Dysfunctional Speedometer. A Battery that wouldn't hold a charge. Broken steering wheel spoke. Numerous paint flaws that weren't pointed out in presentation. There were other mechanical issues discovered that would of been found had the dealer inspected the vehicle prior to listing the car for sale.

It surprises me that a dealer of this caliber would choose not to inspect the car that they were going representing in order to protect their own brand. Unfortunately It is apparent based on other reviews posted on Google that I'm not the first customer to be disappointed in the car received by Autosport Design. This is a very serious situation when one spend $72,000 and is unable to drive the car at receiving. On September 4th I requested a call back from the owner Tom P, to discuss my purchase. As of this review I have yet to receive a call back.

I will never buy another car sight unseen due to my experience with this dealer. Bring a Trailer needs to be more diligent on who they are representing as well. The success of their site is based on having sellers providing accurate information. I realize that all of us as individuals have to be our own advocate. I've been a follower of sales on a Bring a trailer for a long time and had a false sense of security and blind trust that has now been tainted due to this experience. Currently weighing out all options.

We won a car at Bring a Trailer auction. Bring a trailer listing said it was a 5 speeds but the dealer listing, Fantasy Junction from California, said it was a 6 speeds like were looking for. Bring a trailer policy is to get any potential buyer/bidder to do their due diligence calling the dealer for any additional info or for inspecting the car before bidding and we did.

The dealer confirmed it was a 6 speeds 3 days before the end of the auction. We contacted the dealer at the time of the payment and he now told the car was a 5-speed and that the 6 speeds listed was a "clerical error". The 5 speeds was a deal breaker for us and we contacted bring a trailer and the dealer to cancel the sale. Bring a Trailer is refusing to credit our credit card back as they refused to take responsibility from their dealer error. The dealer sold the car before we could solve our issue with Bring a Trailer and himself.

Of course, we are disputing the charges and now got the legal machine involved. For any buyer, just know that the buyer is the one that get charge for the auction fees and that Bring a Trailer WILL DECLINE any responsibility from their dealers, like Fantasy Junction, no matter what! we will never get involve again from this scam and we are not surprised to see so many complaints against their operation. How can they still be in business? I will avoid to spend time on their very little responsive customer service that always send you the same message about their no refund charge policy with the promise to contact you the next day, and we are still waiting.

Original Review: Nobody cares at this company. I tried to call and did write several emails. No response at all. Bad. I wanted to enlist a car and did spend nearly an hour to describe it properly. When I was finished and did upload my information, it did throw me out of the page without any explanation. I recently bid on a 1974 Coyote powered Bronco that had a rebuilt/restored Utah title in the description on the site and won. I previously purchased a Bronco on the site with a clean PA title and obtained insurance with no problem. I planned on financing a portion of the 74 Bronco and after both the finance company and my insurance agent pulled the title it was classified as a salvage. Thus, non financeable, nor insurable so I backed out of the purchase. Emailed and called BAT with no response regarding the 5% auction fee charged to my credit card. Now gonna fight it with my credit card company. BAT, nor the seller ever disclosed the truck was a salvage and the problems it presents. I will never use the site again and will probably spend more money for a lawyer than I will gain. It’s just a matter of full disclosure for me and honesty. Be careful when using this site as you can’t trust that BAT or the seller are being forthright. Username on the site Fletch144.

To all who read this, do not buy on Bring-A-Trailer auction site, especially from Dave ** in Philadelphia (dkel). BaT allows sellers such as this to blatantly misrepresent the vehicles they are selling, with no recourse, to the point of endangering people’s lives; allows sellers, as it did this one, to ship when they feel like it which may be 3 or 4 weeks after payment is received by their bank with no recourse. The vehicle I bought from dkel at auction dumped the entire contents of the transmission fluid immediately after unloading at delivery and had to be repaired where it sat in my driveway before it could even be pulled into the garage.

The seller lied about the ac unit being functional but needing a charge of freon, lied about the physical condition of the truck, lied about why he would not ship it for an extended time after being paid, and lied about multiple dangerous defects found on arrival that needed repair, with this example being one of the worst: the belt and pulley system was not done correctly and one of the belts was mounted dragging over the face of the power steering pulley (wrong pulley used) and then run over the top of another belt already in a slot and stretched tightly enough that it would rotate with the other belt underneath enough to function marginally, shredding small pieces of rubber all over the inside of the engine compartment. It had already taken out a chunk of the fan shroud. The truck was undriveable after being represented as ready to go. I will never use this auction site again, nor this seller, and neither should you.

They do not even have a way to notify future buyers that a seller is a crook. The ad video in the listing was of another look alike bike.

My experience with BaT was awful and I will recommend against anyone using the site in the future. Summary: I had to do 3 rounds of photos after paying for professional photos. It took them 49 days to list the car. The service was awful and slow. They made the car look like crap - terrible seller experience. Details Here: Despite them saying they wanted to list the Nova and me choosing and paying for the professional photo package I had to send more photos just to give them "a sense" of the car. They gave me a reserve with no actual data to back it up when cars sold on the site with information we had at the time were much higher. Going back and forth was terrible because it was basically one message a day with no calling or messaging options. It delayed going live by over a week.

It took you three weeks to begin processing the listing after getting the photos and only after I complained. They greatly overexposed the photos making the car look a lot worse than it actually does - this seems to be a buyer friendly tactic but one that sellers should be very aware of so they avoid using your site. I had been warned about this by another seller and he was 100% right. These guys only care about the buyers. Their first step was to ask me to do more work taking photos after I bought the professional package because I DIDN’T WANT TO TAKE PHOTOS and would not do a good job. It was clear that their guy knew what he wanted but not where it was nor what it looked like as he gave me bad directions and then told me that since I couldn’t find it he couldn’t list it with the information.

The manager got on the thread after I complained about making this my problem and recognized I HAD found it but needed the other side of it which I did my best to send. So I had to do MORE pictures. I submitted the car on May 23. The auction went live on July 11. 49 DAYS. I paid for premium service and instead still ended up doing a ton of work to get the car listed. They should have offered to refund all or a portion of my photo package after the 3 requests for more photos but their poor understanding of good service continued. If I could give 0 stars I would.

The process in the beginning was fine. The auction specialist will answer you at least once a day once you are assigned one. Typically if your vehicle is worth under $20k they do not let you put a reserve on it. This was not explained well as I thought my car had a reserve. During the last day of the auction, someone figured out where I lived from the pictures and came to my house! It's been very scary. Sleepless nights since this. I've repeatedly asked Bringatrailer to take my auction down, as the buyer never purchased the vehicle and I'm terrified and unsafe. They are unwilling to do so. We've now submitted the information to our Attorney who is pursuing these illegal activities further.

The auction went smoothly, and I was fortunate to find a kind and understanding seller, which made the long wait for the car more bearable. However, the shipping experience was terrible. Choosing BaT shipping was a mistake, and it will be the first and last time I use their services. Here's what happened: I won the auction on April 30th, and immediately after, the funds for BaT's fee were withdrawn from my bank account. I also purchased their shipping service for around $870 right after the auction, and the payment was withdrawn as well. The next day, I contacted the seller and arranged a wire transfer for the car payment. That's when the nightmare began.

For two days, I received no communication from BaT, so I had to reach out to them myself. When they finally got in touch, I informed them about my planned trip to Europe, scheduled for May 15th. Unfortunately, they ignored this information and didn't contact me until May 12th, completely disregarding the fact that I had already prepared my luggage. It was impossible to expect the car to be delivered from South Carolina to Indiana in just two days, and the risk of me not being there was too high. I returned on May 30th, but BaT hadn't scheduled anything to ensure a prompt delivery of the car. I had to wait until June 8th to finally receive it.

Adding to the frustration, the driver didn't provide me with at least an hour's notice before arriving (I asked for that in the shipping notes). I had to rush to reach the drop-off point, which was not conveniently located since I was working in another area. Despite selecting a large parking lot for an easier transfer to the shipper, the driver parked the car along a busy road instead. Furthermore, BaT had promised me a tracking service for the car's journey from South Carolina to Indiana, but they never provided it. Every aspect of this process went wrong, and I had expected at least some reimbursement for the pain, but nothing happened. I will never go through this again!

Tried to correct my bid, but the bidding was not monitored by the BAT staff or they ignored it. After they called me the next day due to the failed sale, they admitted they ignored my requests for their own reasons. This all happened before the auction was ended, first I announced I made a mistake, then asked for the bid to be given back to the next highest bidder, but still no response. So then I requested my bid cancelled before the end. Keep in mind, they do not list a phone number or email to contact in the case you need to correct anything. I spent 20 minutes looking for some contact method online before resorting to posting on the auction message board. According to BAT representative, this time lapse was evidence I was not serious, and was cited as why they took no action on my plea for help. Important to note, I had seen them correct bids in the past, but they declined to do so with me.

As a result, my requests were ignored and my last requests to cancel were deleted entirely from the record trail of messages. This they told me this "hiding of my pleas" was so they did not upset the other bidders. They wrote me later and completely left out mention of my requests to give up my bid to another and then to cancel. I got charged 4700.00 for winning bidder fee for a car I did not want to buy, and I should not have won. They offer no other avenue to communicate with the staff other than auction messages until the next day when they contacted me. And it is important to keep in mind, they are only offering a service, they do not create a binding contract between buyer and seller. They collect their fees regardless of whether they accurately provide an auction result, as was the case with me. I was not buying a car at that point before the auction ended, and BAT knew that! And so did the buyer.

After reading the many reviews pertaining to BaT, it further confirms our own unpleasant experience. See below:

    1. Customer service is HORRIBLE. Good luck getting them to answer emails. They either do not, or can take hours/days. Hours don't seem so bad, however, when time is of the essence, minutes and hours can be a very essential component in the selling process of one's vehicle. It can be a make, or break situation.

    2. The picture submission process is grueling. BaT wants 100 plus photos. Not a big deal, although it will take a day, or longer worth of work on the seller's end. And submitting the 100 plus photos does not guarantee that your vehicle will be accepted. In many cases, this just becomes a strenuous labor of love for many.

    3. These "young kids" who are managing/running BaT, who appear to be computer/tech savvy, but have little to zero experience with selling vehicles. These are the people who are listing your prize possessions. These are the people that are forcing low reserves, or they will not list. Why??? And again, who are these people? High school students working a summer job? College students working a side hustle? The millennial sitting in Mom's basement?

If BaT were more transparent about this end, perhaps it would give sellers and buyers more confidence in using their site. This being said, due to BaT's lack of transparency, the listing staff experience is very questionable. Who are these people? Seriously, as they are the sole person(s) responsible for the success, or lack thereof regarding the sale of one's vehicle. I will get to our personal experience in a moment.

    4. The BaT community is riddled with users who live on the message boards leaving senseless comments that are mostly untrue and do nothing but hurt the sale of one's vehicle. Too many in the community appear to be the old beer fart sitting on their couch in their tidy whities (Walter White style). Ironically, almost 80% of the people who make these insane comments claim to be "former racers", or "avid collectors", or "top notch restorationists" wanting to brag about themselves. But when you click on their profile, they have never even bid on a vehicle, or purchased a vehicle. These people are nothing but a nuisance to the auction process. And BaT allows this.

We recently listed a vehicle on BaT. No reserve. It sold for way too low. So low that the person who won it was shocked. But, fair and square the winning bid got the vehicle. What I will say, is that some of the comments were very damaging to the sale and had NOTHING to do with the validity of the vehicle. If the comments were true and held merit, then that would have been one thing, however, the few negative comments were false and defaming to the vehicle. Even though there were mostly positive/glowing comments, it only takes one, or two negs to disrupt a buyer's top end purchase price.

Crazy us, we decide to give BaT another shot. I wish now that we would have gone with the first experience and RAN FOR THE HILLS. We should have sold the vehicle privately, or used another auction site. Well, as we have seen from other sellers' reviews, there tends to be issues with vehicle titles, or proof of ownership. Where I see the disconnect in selling with BaT, they should get all of this information upfront from the seller, i.e. Vehicle title/proof of ownership. Let's face it, a lot of very nice vehicles that are worth boatloads of money are being listed and sold on this site daily. There are far too many trolls wishing that the said vehicle was theirs.

In our case, this wack-job contacted BaT and said that the vehicle we were selling was theirs. LOL... WOW. With ZERO proof of ownership. Yet, BaT, decided it was in the best interest of the seller and potential buyer to remove the listing. What a HUGE WASTE OF TIME!!! The decision was made even after we sent proof of ownership! This further confirms ours, as well as others' experiences regarding the experience/validity of the listing/auction staff at BaT.

First, I should’ve done some online homework about Bring-A Trailer. Yelp – 2-1/2 Stars out of 5. ConsumerAffairs.com only has 1 and 2-star ratings – no 3, 4, or 5-star ratings. Better Business Bureau – 2 stars out of 5. I have a 1974 VW Thing that has $30K invested in a complete restoration and new motor. It looks terrific, and it is in excellent condition. On the submission of the photos, BaT stated that the reserve be set at $18,500 but stated that it “…would allow for the potential for room to go higher in the auction with competitive bidding.” And “but there's always the chance the bidding goes higher in the auction.”

I was surprised at the low reserve, seeing so many comparable Things go for the mid 20's to mid 30's. So, I then told the representative that there was no way I’d take a chance of the Thing selling for $18,500 and lose that amount of money. When I inquired why the low reserve, BaT's representative Robert ** told me the undercarriage was below par. The pans have high-quality undercoating, which is in good condition – no tears or holes. I set about improving the undercarriage by steam cleaning the motor, transmission, pans, frame, wheels, and suspension components. Then the undercarriage was painted. I resubmitted new undercarriage photos to BaT.

The response was the same – $18,500 reserve. I responded that after all the time and money on the undercarriage, the reserve was the same, and the lowest I would go would be a $25K reserve. The response was “I'm afraid this one is not going to be a good fit for us with a reserve in the $20s." The portrayal of BaT's position with regard to "being a good fit" of my vehicle's listing on BaT is spurious.

I have serious questions about BaT transparency in dealing with potential clients... nowhere does BaT state that the company has the right to set a reserve price for listing a vehicle and reject listings based on the requested reserve of the vehicle. The BaT referral of the "approval" statement - is very murky at best. I have been watching many recent Things not meeting the reserve, and I assume that this is influencing their position on setting reserve prices. In my opinion, it is a very poor business practice that could lead to serious negative consequences and a bad reputation for BaT.

Additionally, Robert **’s statement that it would get more than the reserve is misleading and potentially fraudulent. Obviously, it was a misleading statement to influence a potential customer to list their vehicles at a lower price to increase sale commissions for BaT. I'm surprised that this lack of disclosure hasn't been an issue for BaT to date, but it probably will be in the future. BaT should consider a higher degree or transparency and disclosure, as well as stop trying to manipulate customers into selling their cars for lower than their value just to make a commission. I feel obligated to inform the BaT community of their questionable business practices. Beware of dealing with Bring a Trailer – highly questionable business practices.

***SELLERS BEWARE!*** Worst experience I've ever had selling a vehicle. Don't hold your breath on their winning bidders actually paying you. I've had 2 auctions that both were unpaid and they did nothing. It's all about the commission they pull from the buyers credit card at the time of the bid, they don't care after that nor will they ban the buyer from it happening again.

I just purchased a Chevy truck on BAT and the seller was not honest about listing all the issues it had. It arrived with an inoperable gas and temp guage, as well as an oil leak and a gas leak from the gas cap that it came with. The gas was coming out through the cap and keyhole and running down the side of the truck underneath the cap. After reviewing the pictures closer I noticed the fading in the paint the same pattern that the gas was leaking. This leads me to believe that this issue has been ongoing. Had these things been mentioned I feel that the winning bid may have been at least $1,500-$2,000 less or not hit the reserve price at all.

I also noticed two other bidders that mysteriously joined BAT around the same time the truck was listed and have not bid on anything else shortly after the auction ended. Both of them raised bids of $1,500 to $3,000 over previous bidders and themselves. Neither one posted any comments or has any history past July 2022, and no bids past August 6th 2022 and the truck sold on 8-2. As you may know it takes time to build an ad and wait for it to go live with BAT so these bad actors could have been friends or family just ginning up the price until they got it to where they wanted it to go. Don't get me wrong, I like the vehicle but not for the price it sold at with all the undisclosed issues. Now I have contacted both the buyer and seller in order to reach an agreement to refund some of my money. I have bought and sold on this site a few times without a hitch. Hopefully it will be corrected soon as I like this platform.

I submitted a fairly rare classic muscle car to go up for sale on Bring-A-Trailer. The next day I received an email stating my vehicle was not accepted, no explanation no valid reason. Now I could understand if my listing was sub-par or I was sketchy on the information but I wasn't I had almost 50 pictures of the car and all of the thousands of dollars in new parts that's coming with it. It is a project car that comes some assembly required but that's why I tried to list it on BRING A TRAILER! It's in the name! So I begin reading consumer reviews with the BBB and elsewhere and they have overwhelmingly bad reviews and horror stories from people who have either used or tried to use their service.

Keep in mind this is no free listing service, these people pay a minimum of $99 to list on this site $349 if you want them to take the pictures yet they never seem to accept any vehicles, the ones they do according to the reviews either the seller or the buyer seem to get screwed over. It appears I dodged a bullet. Just beware! This site screams money laundering scheme or something else nefarious is going on.

I attempted to list my car for auction with BAT. I completed the application and received an email response suggesting that I lower my reserve citing their experience with similar cars. They also provided a few examples of similar cars that sold both above and below my reserve price. I tried to engage the representative in discussion to understand their rationale. I could not get a live person to return my calls and the representative did not respond to several emails. They are unprofessional and difficult to deal with. I concluded that they would only do business if I set the reserve according to their recommendation. Without an explanation it was impossible for me to move forward. I would not list a car with them.

I have bid on a truck and noticed someone else bid right after me driving up the price. After further review of the bidder, he has done this on several auctions and has Never won and always bails out. After seeing this researched a few others that do this as well. Pure scammers driving up the prices. Will never buy on this site.

All I can say is that this company-BaT, is all about making it difficult to see a vehicle and communicate with the seller. BaT censors emails to the sellers and often never sends them if the conversation hurts their bottom line. They allow and encourage shill bidding and flag anyone who calls them out. If you want to buy a ridiculously priced car without ever getting to see it, this is the place to go. BringATrailer.com- Barrett Jackson for suckers.

What an outrageous thing. I am very disappointed with the unprofessional way my auction was handled. At the last minute, several people showed up on the comment section and started to denigrate my vehicle acting as experts and from that point on nobody else bidded on the car. No BaT representative acted on my behalf or moderate the comments. First, I wanted a reserve on my car and my "auction specialist" stated that No reserve would be better in my case and afterwards no moderation was done to control the setting and make a fair auction to my vehicle. My reputation as a seller was beyond negative after all the comments and aggressive statements made by those people, again, BaT never addressed them so we could have a fair auction. This is worse than eBay bidding system.

BaT Is nothing but a Shameful & desperate attempts by greedy Swindlers who consistently Hide facts which would either Increase, or Lower, the actual value of items for sale by making illegal, Luring, con attempts to exaggerate prices by squelching free & open speech from prospective buyers. In addition, according to the Federal DOJ, they are under investigation for participating in Money Laundering. They, in fact, refuse to allow questions/comments which would prove embarrassing for the seller to answer, thereby driving the price of the items they're auctioning, up. BaT does this because they derive almost 100% of their income from buyers fees based on selling prices.

This also limits free & open conversations to protect buyers, who can't protect themselves from bad deals, by not getting detrimental, value related, questions answered by sellers. And, whether BaT knows it or not, they ARE under investigation by the DOJ for participation in money laundering. Their inflated prices attract/encourage drug dealers & the like, who need to turn illegal cash into something tangible, then back into legal cash.

I put my 1989 944 turbo on their site. The sales person convinced me to sell it without a reserve. IDK why but I did. It went for half of what it was worth. Caution - ALWAYS use a reserve when posting on an auction!

Stay away from their Shipping/Transport group. Their shipping services are about 2x the price of other shipping platforms yet all shipping/hauling platforms have access to the same central booking database of independent haulers. And once you click on contacting them for shipping services, the credit card you entered when you're bidding on a car gets immediately charged for a shipping service you never agreed to the rate on. That is, you're not asked to enter the CVC code, your address or anything - your card gets charged for a shipping rate they set.

The worst is the shipping people hide. One, gave me his employee number. But the manager, Christie and Juanita (if that's their real names), wouldn't give me their employee numbers or last names. And of course, in the year 2021, they don't have their own individual email addresses with last names. Clearly BaT is trying to scam people into using their expensive shipping service then hide the BaT employees that hit and ran on the 2x expensive shipping fees for using the same hauler any shipper would use.
