Sears Sells NTB to Big O Parent

Big O, with about 450 stores in 19 states, is part of TBC Corp., which calls itself the "industry's premier private brand tire marketer." We're not sure what that means but it sounds like Big O sells private-label tires at what are supposedly bargain prices.

TBC's latest acquisition is National Tire and Battery, which Sears unloaded after running it into the ground. Other brands include Carroll Tire Co., with a network of 5,000 retailers in the Southeast; Tire Kingdom, with 150 stores in the Southeast; Northern States Tire, a wholesaler in the Northeast; TBC de Mexico; and Superior Tire, a Las Vegas-area retailer.

My brakes were grinding and I was going on a long trip with my kids to SD. I went to Big O and had them do my brakes. Next day we left out of town to SD traveling in bad weather and had to go through 4 passes and lots of hills and curves. The brakes were squeaking so I called Big O right away and told them and they said it will go away. We left and it was still squeaking all through the trip we made it to Rapid City, SD. It was bothering me because we had to travel home yet and they were making these noises.

So I took it to a shop in SD they checked it and said since I had new brakes on that the squeaking should eventually go away. We headed back to Seattle after afew days. The squeaking gotten worst, so when I got back to Seattle. I called Big O again, he said bring it back in. He checked and he apologized and said I am sorry but whoever did you brakes didn't do a good job here. The brake pads were melted badly. He said he will fix them for free in which he did and now after afew months, they are grinding again.

This is a major safety issue for me and my kids on the trip. We could of had an accident if the brakes gave out.

I was charged 614.12 twice they swipe your card and say it did'nt go thru and swipe it again, never let them do this with out telling them to cancel the first swipe. When I called and asked for Mike- he would remember swiping twice- saying it did not go thru, say he was sorry and immediately credit my bank account.

They wanted me to prove they over charged me, Mike never came to the phone, Terri was explaining how I needed to fax her my bank statements. I went to my bank, faxed the report, and called Corporate HDQRTS big o fat deal, wait and see how long it takes for them to give me back my 614.12.

The work was dubious at best.I asked for them to save my parts to show me after the work was completed, when I asked about them they moaned and said they would have to pick thru the garbage-No good! The alignment was supposed to be discounted, vehicle pulls to the right, never did before. I went to Bigotires because of AAA's recommendations-I really regret using their Business and will never say a good word about them, I will make sure I take any opportunities to discourage other potential customers. At this time my 614.12 has not been credited back to my account

Since most people will read complaints instead of the Good Guy section I will put this in this section. I had tire troubles my entire trip form S. Texas to Colorado this summer and went to 5 different tire stores and had an uncounted number of so called pros look at a tire i suspected to be bad but they all asured me it was OK.

Bouncing all the way from Taos, N.M. to Roswell, N. M. and pulled into the Big O store there., Manager asked me what was wrong and I told him I had been told I had a bad ball joint on my F250 that was causing the vibration but I had my doubts. He said he would have his mechanic check into it asap. I unhooked the travel trailer I was pulling and the mech got into the truck and in less than a block told me you have a bad tire. but to be sure we will put it on the rack and check it out. Truck was put in the rack and engine started and put into gear,,,, Helen Keller could have seen that out of round tire.
