Purebred vs thoroughbred dogs

Norman Ross writes (3/14/05): I am NOT canceling, I just want to inform you that the term is NOT "Thoroughbred" Dogs. It is PUREBRED dogs! Learn the difference BEFORE you publish a story!

We assume Norman refers to our A Wolf in Pup's Clothing story, which is the product of weeks of research on puppy mills.

We replied to Norman: Can't win 'em all. Thanks for the lecture. It's not necessary to shout.

Shout? Are you so incredibly dense that you overlook accuracy in favor of having your "sensibilities" offended? You are truly a cretin.

You should learn to make your arguments without calling people names. It's very unbecoming.

I urge you to look up the word, "cretin", it speaks of intellectual midgetry ... and frankly gross stupidity. Instead of worrying about names, shouting, and the like, I suggest you research before you speak. End of dialogue.

You may be referring to a specialized usage within the trade. Our interest is consumer protection, not hair-splitting. The worst part of our job comes every Monday when we hear from people like you. You may have a point but hurling invectives and calling people cretins is not the way to make it.

Merriam Webster:
Thoroughbred - bred from the best blood through a long line: PUREBRED (thoroughbred dogs)
Purebred - bred from members of a recognized breed, strain, or kind without admixture of other blood over many generations

Norman is the kind of readers editors and reporters hate. He completely ignores the essence of the story to pick some minor nit about which he is wrong and does so in an outraged tone completely out of proportion to the imagined defense.
