AOL - Unauthorized Charges

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

They continue to bill by credit card for charges that I did not authorize. I cannot find a way to contact them to stop this. I contacted AOL in US and they could not find an account connected to me for this. Transaction number is ** (AOL Broadband, 5 Portal Way, Acton, London W3 6T United Kingdom). It's for $50.83, which recurs monthly.

Several years ago, I started noticing a charge from AOL on my checking account statement. When it started it was from "AOL/TWC". I did not have an AOL account so I did some research into AOL/TWC (about the time that Time Warner bought AOL) only to find that I was not alone. I found that hundreds of people were reporting this problem. I went to my Credit Union and asked them to deny any charges from AOL/TWC, to which they complied. Soon, however, the charges started again. I closed the account and opened a new one thinking that would be the end of it. I was wrong. The charges started again on the new account so I went back to CU, filled out the proper paperwork to deny the charges and again it stopped, but only for a while.

Taking out my frustration on the CU, I went into their office demanding action. It was discovered that the billing was not going through my debit card but through my checking account number. Further investigation revealed that the AOL account I was being billed for was not even in my name but in the name of somebody that I have never heard of. Again, through the actions of the CU, the billing stopped for a couple of months but started yet again. Back to the CU office I went today. With a CU officer we got AOL on the speaker phone. The first AOL rep we spoke to claimed that they had no record of any of my checking accounts being billed, that I did not exist in their data banks and tried to snuff me off to their consumer complaints department at some address in VA. This time I hit the roof and demanded to speak to somebody higher up.

This "higher up", who like the first rep barely spoke English, gave me almost the exact same run around. He could not find that I or my checking account existed in their records. After some more heated discussion with threats from me to press charges and hit them with a class action suit, he told me that he would cancel the billing and send me some paperwork to fill out with my CU to try for a refund. I don't know how they propose to cancel an account that, according to them, does not exist, but I will wait for the paperwork and go from there. I really would like to get this company for myself and the many others they have stolen from. I will be contacting the DA's office to try to press charges and would surely join any class action suit that is pending against them.

I signed up to AOL in 2010 and I used them for internet for approximately 6 to 8 months, and then cancelled them in mid 2010 to switch to Net Zero. I called them and told them I wanted to cancel and they gave me a confirmation number and everything. I assumed they cancelled it and thought nothing more of it. I went to my bank January 20, 2012 to deposit a check and get some money. My balance was lower than I expected so I asked them what charges were recently withdrawn on my account.

They told me AOL for $14.95. I asked them to go back and tell me how many other charges were from them and they said the past 4 months. January 23, 2012 I got a printout of my statements for a two-year period and found out AOL has been charging me for two years, only 6 months of which I used their service before cancelling. The last four months, the charges were $14.95 per month; before that they were $11.99 per month and I cancelled it about one year and 7 months ago.

When I called them and told them, they said they had no record of me cancelling but would cancel my account. They owe me for a year and a half of charges because I cancelled nearly 2 years ago. I had them from when I lived at a previous address and have been at current one for nearly 2 years and had cancelled before I moved. They said they had no record of it but I have a number confirming it, original number. They refuse to acknowledge it. I moved May of 2010 and had cancelled it about 4 to 6 months prior and it'll be 2 years this May that I have lived at current address.

I contacted AOL concerning a problem in getting my messages. Since they were unable to resolve the problem because they were unable to access my computer, they suggested contacting TechGuru, and for a nominal fee of $19.99, they could resolve the issue for me. When I called TechGuru, they offered me a complete overhaul package for $129.99, which I refused. I then told them I wanted the $19.99 assistance that AOL recommended. Thus, the problem began. Yes, the e-mail problem was fixed, but I was billed $129.99 and I have been trying since the end of September to get credit.

According to AOL, my credit requests (all of them) have been denied. And, according to my conversation with AOL again today, no credit will ever be made. This is just so wrong.

I received my March phone bill and was shocked to find $497 in toll calls. They informed me that it was AOL provider. Somehow, we were put onto a number that generated those charges. AOL claimed I did it, when I asked them why would I put a number that would generate that big of a phone bill and why they would give me a number that would do that, they have no answer. I have my phone paid electronically, so they have been paid which is why I receive no answer from them.

I had $25.90 taken off my credit card and I did not authorize it. I am not waiting 3 months to get my money back, so please tell me how I can retrieve my money because I am sick and had cancer and can't pay for my prescriptions.

So I want it off my card today and I want to know who I speak with and how I will get the refund. I called 3 weeks ago for some affidavit, which is a **. I am upset to have this done to me and had to get another card.

Isn't this against the law? If I took someone's credit card and used it, I would be in jail. So they get away with making people not able to eat or to get meds. This is a shame. Someone needs to stop this. And you know what, until I get my credit back, I'm telling my story to anyone who will listen.

I was billed on my credit card by AOL and I do not have that for my computer's Internet. I have broadband and Comcast so I don't know why this happened to me. I need it removed. It was for 25.90 cents.

We noticed that for two years, we were being charged and $25.90 was being automatically taken out to pay for AOL internet services, yet we never signed up for AOL; we have Verizon Fios.

Once I got a hold of a customer support, they said that AOL charges even though it was never used and so I asked to cancel account and what I want is to be reimbursed. They cannot prove to me that I signed up and I never received welcome e-mails or any direct mail. My bank credit card which was used to pay this was also expired yet they somehow had my bank information and continued to deduct amount.

My wife and I are elderly and did not catch this fraud early, as it has gone on for two years till we took a closer look at our finances. If anyone can tell us where to report this fraud, please contact us.

AOL billed me for services that I did not require, nor understand, for years under false pretense. They had me paying for "membership," even going so far as to send alerts to my e-mail address, leading me to believe that I would no longer have an account with them if I did not continue to pay. I confess that I am not so computer savvy but my son alerted me that no one pays for e-mail any more--" for years," he said.

When I looked into the matter, it showed that I was paying for a dial-up service. Really? But It's not something I have ever needed or wanted. When I finally spoke to someone about canceling the unnecessary product, she tried to sell it to me under a lesser rate and was trying to make me believe that I still had to pay for AOL. Now, I am online with a clock telling me how long I have been on for. I feel harassed.

AOL is taking money out of my checking account completely unauthorized. I have NEVER had or used AOL. $11.99 is the amount and this has happened 3 different times. I even canceled my debit card and ordered a new one, got a refund from AOL and then they did it again. NO one in the company could help me.

AOL deducted monthly fees from my debit card 5 years after I canceled. They have acknowledged their error, but refuse to pay interest or the full amount they received. I was offered or their version of a settlement, less than half of the money they received. This took place after I contacted BBB. In addition to my canceling, January 2011, I received emails and statements stating I was past due?

It's apparent that this is a company that is very unprofessional and very dishonest. This is a company that has many individuals' credit card info in the data base. Its a scary thought. I was robbed by AOL. For years I was unaware. I'm now approaching a legal battle, trying to get rec money they never should have taken (or stolen). The damage is my bank verified and validated monthly transactions back til 3/07. I received a temp credit adjustment from my Bank the full amount. AOL refused to pay the Bank. The Bank refunded their money from my account leaving me arrears for over 1 month.

I was told over a year ago that AOL was going to credit my daughter's debit account after I filled out fraud paperwork--the credit never came through. I moved out of the house and never authorized charges to my credit card, and somehow, they got my daughter's number and started charging her monthly. The only way they will credit her back for years of unauthorized monthly fees--the account was not in use at all--would be to pay the bank $20 for each month statement--more than the credit per month. That's totally ludicrous. They were never authorized to bill her and because it was minimal, she did not realize what the charge was for a while. She thought it was something else and then when she checked, found out it was AOL. But they told her that they would credit her card, and never did. I don't know what else to do.

I have had AOL service since 2003. I have just seen that I am being billed monthly by AOL. AOL has been free for over many years! They have been deducting this money from me and not let me know that it was a free service. I just called AOL and they will only give me 2 months of refund! They are thieves. I believe I should be reimbursed for the whole amount they have been stealing from me and other consumers out here. I demand some actions be taken against them. This is monetary abuse especially in these hard economic times is outrageous, unfair, and blind robbery.

This AOL customer phoned AOL to check with the Billing Department about an important billing issue and was told there would be a wait of an half-hour. This customer waited almost 2 hours on a landline phone. When the music stopped playing, the customer could hear the consultant talking in the background, but the person never spoke to the customer. Finally, after several fruitless attempts by the customer to be heard by the consultant, another hour passed before the person answering the phone in the billing department hung up the phone without speaking to the customer.

It was frustrating to hear workers socialize in the background, yet never attempt to speak with the customer who was patiently waiting on the phone for service. After waiting on the land line the first hour, forty minutes were also passed on the customer's cell phone, before it was answered by an AOL consultant by the name of "Bo", who took this complaint at approximately 1:20 pm est on 3/21/11.

AOL and "would-be" customers should be made aware of the extremely poor service they are offering customers.

AOL had triple billings in my account for several years. Being a disabled veteran, I am short-sighted of many things. AOL send me $2,500 check but my request was for $4,300. I never sign to $2,500 check sent me nor cashed it. I wrote several times for AOL to adjust the amount, and I have been waiting three years as of now. What can I do?

I have destroyed credit rating due to money stolen from my credit card accounts, and I spent money trying to repair the debts and causing hardship on my life and my children's life. All of this affected my disabilities and as an American disabled veteran, this stress was unforgivable!

I have been paying $14.95 to AOL for over 10 years. After AOL started free e-mail service, I switched to it. They started charging me $9.99/month in addition to the $14.95/month charge. I later switched over to Time Warner (Broadband) of which includes AOL in its services.

AOL has since been double billing me for years. I have called repeatedly in the past trying to understand my billing. They finally stopped the $9.99/month billing, but continued to charge me the $14.95/month billing.

What does it take to end services once and for all? I haven't used AOL services in a long time, and the last time I called, I talked to a customer service representative name Gabrille who couldn't understand simple English regardless of how many times I stated my information. Do they not know how to use quality customer service techniques to help us with billing issues? I have four children in college. Do I really need to state the economic damage this has caused me and the countless numbers of other customers that has been scammed by them? What a ripoff.

AOL lowered their price plan for high speed basic service to $11.99. God knows how long ago, yet they continue to charge me $14.95 a month. I asked them for refund and to give me lower price and they said they cannot refund me for past months, but can switch me to the cheaper rate now. When I asked why they didn't notify me or automatically give me the lower price, they said, "Our policy is not to change members' accounts without their permission." But if they raised their rates would they need our permission?

I was billed multiple times by AOL and there were times where $200 was taken out of my account for AOL monthly service. When I contacted AOL, they said they would refund me, but they never did.

I have 2 unexplained AOL charges on my bank statement, both in the amount of $26.90. I am not a member of AOL, I have "Cox" for the internet. I called the 800-827-6364 and was given an address to mail a grievance letter. She asked for my credit card number, I thought that was odd. Consequences are a total of $53.80 AOL. $180.00 in overdraft charges to my debit card. $78.41 and $78.41 both cosmetic orders with a free sample in one, along with an order. They were to give me a 7-10 day trial period. The other, a complete order to try and return if not satisfied. These orders were delivered by USPS, not requiring a signature. The packagings were left laying in a common entry way, used by 9 other residents. The USPS is investigating too.

My apartment complex office has been noticed. These items undoubtedly were stolen. With all the phone calls, writing endless letters, only one company helped a little. The $78.40 charge, they are going to credit back to me $40.00. The irony of all this, I never was able to try the products, just pay for them! I was caught up in a scam, AOL being one of them. I hope you will deduct these charges and issue me a credit or refund as soon as you can.

I have been charged $25.90 several times a month for dial up internet which I do not use. This has been going on for several years. When I realized that this charge was unjustified I called and supposedly canceled what I was paying for but they continue to bill me. In fact, there have been two additional $77.20 charges. When I ask Amex to dispute these charges, my account gets credited for one charge. However, it continues to go on.

We have continually been billed by AOL for years even though we had cancelled our service with them. We cancelled our AmEx cards so eventually they sent us bills directly and ultimately threatened to turn us over to a collection agency. Weary of their constant phone calls, I agreed to pay the amount they then showed owing of $99.80 and sent them a check in early July of 2010 (No. **) and sent it with their bill. That check was cashed on July 15, 2010. We continue to get phone calls (today is October 29, 2010) and they insist we still owe that money. We have received several phone calls in recent weeks.

We asked them to send something through the mail to validate where/who they are since I'm hesitant to send a copy of a check (back and front) to someone I'm not sure made the call (The call comes from "unknown"). I am sending copies to the address they have given me above (they say they don't have any forms or procedures for them to request a copy of a check for which we have paid on the account, which I find hard to believe). Nonetheless, I am sending copies of this check to them. I only hope they will finally stop calling and confirm that this account which we have not used in years is finally closed.

I used to be a paid customer of America Online and was so for a number of years. I now, according to AOL, do not know my place of birth when I try to access my account; hence, I cannot access my account and the only way to access my account is to provide the last four digits of my payment method though I have a free account. I am going to report this, because apparently, this is a deliberate attempt to coerce me to pay again.

When I switched from dial-up service to high-speed I called and wanted to switch my price plan with AOL. I wanted to keep their service only for e-mail and that was it. I was informed today that e-mail has been free with AOL since 2001. I don't know if that is true or not. I don't know the exact date that I switched to high-speed internet but it was at least in early 2008

So I have been paying at least $9.99 to $11.99 a month for a year and a half and then in October of 2009, I was changed to $2.99. I have been paying these amounts simply to access my e-mail. Every time I called I made it clear that I was using AOL only for e-mail yet I was being billed a monthly service fee. What can be done?

I received a free AOL trial when I bought my HP computer in 2005. I had my AOL services billed to my home phone at the time which was **. About six months after, I had dial-up service on my computer. I began getting calls from the AOL service department and letters that I was 3 months behind on payment when the payments were clearly being billed to my phone. I called customer service and was told that billing problems had to be handled online which was impossible.

After 4 calls, I was finally able to get an address out of them in Florida where I could mail a copy of payment from my phone bill and clear the matter up. I was able to stop the collection calls but never was able to recover my overpayment. A few months after that fiasco was over, I got another $39 fee added to my phone bill and had to call my bank to stop payment on some credit report service that AOL had added to my bill from one of their sponsors without my permission.

Three months ago, I switched to Verizon Wireless and had my home phone service and AOL discontinued. I called AOL and notified them that I would no longer be needing their services. About a month later, I began getting final billing statements, so I went ahead and sent them a check for the last month's service. A month later, I was sent late charges and told by customer service that they never received my check. It wasn't removed from checking so I assumed it was lost in the mail. I sent them another one and when they got it, suddenly both checks appeared and were cashed. I have as of yet to receive any overpayment refund for the extra check.

I figure all and all, I have lost about $200 in money and dealt with five years of confusion and harassment from this company. I am certain that these are not honest mistakes and this company is intentionally cheating people out of millions every year and should not be allowed to do so in this country. My e-mail address with AOL was **. I have recently researched this company online and found entire blogs dedicated to people who have been duped by AOL along with class action suits, and I'm curious as to why they are still getting away with these business practices.

Saturday, September 25, 2010, we received a bill from AOL for $25.90. I thought it odd, the real AOL. If so, what business did we have with them? Or was this really just a thinly disguised rip-off attempt by someone portraying themselves as the true AOL?

On the face of the invoice, it said that our billing information had changed and hence they had been unable to process our payment, and that we needed to call and provide current credit card information. Looked like a rip-off attempt, so I called the number on the letter for a laugh, no intention whatsoever of giving anyone our credit card information.

So I called the number on the notice for a laugh and found that they'd been charging my wife's VISA card since December 2003 for $26.90—not per year, not quarter, but per month! And, apparently this was the real AOL! Of course I opted to cancel the service and then they in turn informed me that there was still the unresolved issue of August's balance! OMG! They've stiffed me for $2,000 and they're asking for another $26.90!

I checked the bank statements yesterday and felt less ashamed for the oversight as the amount stands out like a needle in a haystack. There are a lot of smaller transactions and the $26.90 is not large enough to draw your attention when scanning the account for anomalies I had to hunt for it. Realizing I didn't know what service we'd been getting charged for, I called AOL two days later. Oh, my god, it was dial up service! We've had cable internet from Charter since (I checked) April 2004. And what AOL refers to as their $26.90 plan no longer even exists. I'd imagine that today's equivalent is something like the $9.90 plan.

What's got me so stirred up is that as tech savvy and data-driven as AOL would have to be, I'll wager my last dollar that they know exactly how much cash is collected on accounts that are not in use, and how long these accounts have been dormant. I imagine there's quite a bit of chuckling around the water cooler at AOL over the amount of cash collected from dormant accounts.

All I can figure is that we gave credit card information in exchange for a free trial offer back in 2003 when we bought a new computer. We failed to cancel after signing up with Charter Cable and they've charged ever since. In my view, this is unethical. Why? Because they know we haven't used the service since at least April 2004. We've never received a statement in all these years, email, snail-mail, or otherwise, until now. The $26.90 plan no longer even exists! I've been duped by an unfair, devious, scheming and unprincipled practice employed by AOL. Sure, I have a responsibility up and to a point, but after seven years of unearned cash withdrawals shame on AOL. How many others like me are there?

This AOL internet service was billed to our phone bill for under Gary **** through AT&T, which was SBC back then. The service was canceled May 13, 2005 (this has been confirmed by AOL). I recently checked my father's phone bill and it showed an AOL charge for $32.90. He has not had any service through AOL since 2005. He has been paying $32.90 every month since 2005 and has not had any service. I contacted AOL and confirmed the cancellation and was instructed to write everything down and mail or fax to billing services along with a copy of the phone bill showing AOL and "ebillit" (the company collecting the money for AOL) which I did on 9/1/10, then again on 9/27/10, after calling into AOL and finding they didn't receive it.They owe my father around $2,039 for charges that they collected for no service. I have called in and all I get is the run around and now I am very angry. I don't understand how companies can get away with collecting money for accounts that do not exist.

I attempted to cancel AOL by phone. The man could not understand English and told me that we did not have an account at AOL on either my husband's name or my name. I tried to tell him that I did in fact have an account and supplied account number. The AOL man insisted that we did not have an account. Four months later, I get a collection call and now owe $70.00 plus fees. I had to pay it. What could I have done? I was told that all I had to do was email AOL to cancel and that I couldn't have cancelled it by phone anyway! What? AOL is a scam! I had to pay $70 plus fees when I had not used the product in over 6months.

My old account has been hacked into and sending a barrage of emails to people. I have tried on numerous accounts to get this settled. I no longer have this account but the emails keep happening and I can't get AOL to respond. Either they are sending me to other departments or I have gotten a lot of recordings. I have everyone calling me at all hours of the night complaining.

On 17 August 2010 after a long and hard day of work, I stopped by the post office to pick up mail and found a letter from AOL stating my payment method was out of date and I needed to contact them to update my account information. I began to do some research into this with the bank where I had this account and found they had continued to withdraw $18.99 from my account even after I cancelled it well over two years ago.

Do the math on this people, at 24 months that is over $455. Immediately I became livid because I realized I had been robbed. After gathering myself, I called the customer number listed on the letter. Upon struggling to answer the security questions that I could not remember, I was finally connected to a live representative by default for giving the wrong answers. I explained the situation to him calmly and requested to speak with a supervisor at least three times. He continuously told me he could resolve any issues I was experiencing and continued with his statements of resolution. He initially offered me one month of free AOL service and I denied his offer.

I informed him I no longer wanted AOL service. After expressing to Mr. C. I felt they had basically ripped me off for over two years and again requesting to speak with a supervisor, he put me on hold and came back with his best offer of two months of free AOL service. I again denied it and asked Mr. C. if he could please look back in his system and tell me when was the last time I logged on to AOL. He did and found that there had not been any action on the account in six months.

I asked him to look further and he informed me that his system could only go back as far as six months. I again informed him I called and canceled the account I know two years ago but he stated there was nothing he could do. I once again requested to speak with a supervisor and he put me on hold. When he returned, his final offer to me was a rebate of $37.98 and I told him no, I did not want it. I informed Mr. C. of the amount they had taken from me and I would gladly take this up in court if necessary because at this time, reality sat in and it became apparent that I had been robbed. Money had been taken from my account in excess of $455 and it was evident AOL did not care and was not going to do anything to return my money. I requested a supervisor once again and Mr. C. informed me he or she was busy and he did not know when he or she would be available.

I explained how my family and home had been devastated by the economy with the loss of my wife's job and how they had taken money from me and he appeared to not care at all. He kept offering the $37.98 to me. I asked him a few questions in regards to his location and what time their main office opened and he informed me they were in Europe and all calls by default were routed to them. Furious and disappointed, I told Mr. C. good night.

I don't know about anyone else who may read this but my house has felt the wrath of this economy and to be taken like this by anyone is a huge deal to me. Can someone please help! While investigating this issue, I have found there were numerous NSF fees charged to my account. I would use this account to pay bills and one bill automatically withdrew from the account. When the account balance was low or empty, this would post to the account causing NSF fees. Imagine what the outcome would be if I walked in to AOL and took $500 and walked out the door. Why should this be any different? A crime is a crime and AOL has stolen from my account far too long.

AOL will not stop charging me. I have been trying to get this stopped for over a year. I've had several overdraft charges on my bank account at $35.00 each because of this. They told me to talk to my bank! It's not my banks fault! AOL is robbing me! I just want my money back!

I discovered that I was being billed 2 times each month for my AOL service at $25.90 each. I called the phone number on my credit card statement for AOL. I got a computer recording asking certain questions which took about 20 minutes to only at the end tell me to go online for further information. I tried both www.bill.aol.com and myaccount.aol.com. At one point, I was able to connect and have a "live chat" with a person (e-mail back and forth). The person's name was "Pinky". I explained my problem and they asked for the billing account person. I gave my name and they said it was incorrect. Thinking perhaps I had originally (10 years ago) given my full name when opening the account, I gave that. It was also incorrect. So, I gave all the options, including maiden name, and it was also incorrect. Then, I gave my husband's name. It's also incorrect.

I asked if there was any other information that I could give to confirm. Pinky just kept typing they needed the billing account person. There are no other options than the ones I had already provided. She made no effort to help and did not ask any other ways I might be able to help her with solving my problem. She could have asked for my password, but didn't. It was about 11:00 pm when I finally just hung up on Pinky. Then, I went to the help field and chose My Account. The question on the screen asked "where were you born", so I replied with city and state. It was incorrect. Again, thinking maybe I didn't need to abbreviate GA, I spelled it out. It was incorrect. Sorry, but I've only been born one time and I know where it was!

I logged off, being very ** off. But then, I thought I would try again to break through. When I tried to access it again, it gave me a "Your account has been locked, try again in 24 hrs." So by this time, it was 12 midnight and I have to get up at 5 to go to work. Determined that I'll call my credit card company and have them block AOL from making any more charges, I accessed my credit card on line the next morning. I found that AOL had already charged my account twice again.

We switched our service from AOL to Charter in 12/07. My husband passed away in 8/08. He always took care of our finances. Now that he is gone, it is my job. I never did any of the bill paying. It has been brought to my attention that AOL has been billing me for almost three years of service I did not have. They have taken almost a thousand dollars from my account. I contacted them and they want to pay me back two months of service. When we switched our service, Charter told us that there was no need for us to contact AOL that they would let them know of the service change. This has caused me financial problems. It has caused over draft problems and emotional stress as well.

When we first started using the internet years ago, we started with AOL dial up service. It has been about 10 years since we moved on to our local cable company and then Verizon Fios. Recently when having a problem with what I thought was my free AOL email I found my "account" and realized they had been charging a credit card that my husband uses.

I can't believe we never saw the $14.95/month charge. I know we called and cancelled the service years ago but I certainly can't recall any confirmation number or exactly when. Even speaking with them today the first customer service agent congratulated me for being a customer for 13 years, I asked her to not because they have been stealing from me for the past 10.

She then tried to sell me a different service to "compliment" my current provider. I asked her several times to cancel and she said she did and even changed my security question but when I asked to speak with her supervisor, he eventually asked me if I wanted go ahead and cancel because it was not done yet.

Well what did that last service rep do? I can't believe they didn't do it 10 years ago and tried to get away with it again. I am looking into a possible law suit to recoup some of the money lost.

I have called them several times over the past several years and keep getting the same old "what is your password."

Well, after five years or so, who remembers their password when you log on you don't need it. I want to discontinue the service and they will not let me and will not take it off my American Express Credit Card. I have been paying $25.90 for over five years and not using the service. They know when I log on to use the service, so they can't say I use the service. I am so frustrated. What can I do? I paid $1,554.00 for which I should not have paid as I wanted to discontinue the service but they would not let me since I forgot my password.

Recently AOL put a fraud alert on my file after someone claimed that they were being billed for my services. Called to rectify the situation and was informed that I needed to send a copy of my license, bank statement and credit card that AOL is billing. Sent requested documents and was promised that someone will contact me after reviewing. I called 24 hours later to be told that the card was too dark and they could not read the numbers. (It's a blue card...not much I can do about the color) Was also told that the bank statesmen did not have the credit card number on it. It's a debit card and no bank statement will ever list all of the card/account numbers on the account.

It has now been 7 days since I have had access to my email account and AOL could care less. I am still being billed for the account, yet they can't prove that I am paying for services. I would call their customer service a joke, if it wasn't so horribly incompetent. It amazes me that I can pay for an account for years with the same credit card on file, yet they cancel or put a fraud alert without contacting the owner of the account. Wouldn't it make sense to contact the owner to verify or better yet... make hem pay for the supposed wrong billing. Now, I understand why thousands of subscribers are leaving AOL. Good riddance!

For years, AT&T has carried an e-BilI charge of 32.90 on my phone bill. Each time I called to have it cancelled, they said there was no way for them to cancel it. I had AOL in 2001, but thought I had cancelled it. When I called AOL, they told me that regardless of whether I had used their service or not, I had not cancelled and therefore would not be due a refund for the months charged in error. Basically, each side is pointing a finger at the other. I've been charged $32.90 a month for over nine years for a service I did not use.

AOL has been billing my account $25.90 for over 4 years, well after I requested for cancellation. What can I do? They have "stolen" more than $2000.00 for me.

Back when AOL was a subscription only service, I was charged for 2 accounts (one I never signed up for). Even though they were able to see one was never used, they refused to refund the overcharge of over $700. They did it in a way that it would not be seen together on a bank statement!

Until recently I had a bookkeeper who paid all my invoices with QuickBooks. I am now having to do this and started noticing that I had a regular monthly charge from a company called Cavalier. When I called, I learned they took over the long distance account from AOL some time ago. I thought that I was paying for the phone with the $25.90 monthly charge from AOL.

Yesterday I talked with someone about this and learned that the $25.90 is only giving me dial up service. I've had high speed for years. I feel AOL has been charging me illegally. They tried to say it was posted on their website. But why would I ever look at the website? This is something they should have notified me about. Do I have any recourse for obtaining these past charges? I cancelled my subscription immediately.

Received a call that stated I owed money on a past due account. They stated they were "Liberty Collections" but later admitted was AOL. Rep stated that the account was closed but was closed to soon during a billing cycle to count and their policy stated can only cancel within 24 hours before charging the card. I cancelled this account and with my bank they reversed the charges. I thought this was closed. Now 3 years later they want more money or they are threatening me to ruin my credit. Rep cursed at me and yelled at me to pay now or else. I stated this account is closed. They agreed but have this policy to state that although I closed it, I should have sent something in writing too. I think they are just trying to get more money. I want the calls to stop. I cancelled this account years ago, paid the balance and I am not going to keep paying them. This is ridiculous.

aol has gone into my bank account and helped themselves to a great deal of my money. i finally figured out what was going on after internet banking, i closed my account with them in 2002 and also closed the credit card they were billing. i guess they got my bank account number from paypal. anyways, i would love to cancel my memebership, without being hung up on.

I had a paid AOL act for past 15+yrs - I recently requested change to free AOL acct & rcvd confirmation from AOL in regards. I am still being charged for monthly paid acct despite my attempts to clear this via AOL customer service reps several times via phone, email and online live chat = to no avail! I'm being charged for a FREE service?

Although I have a free AOL account, I have been charged $11.95 a month since April. I have talked to my credit card company and they are trying to have the charges reversed but they say they can only do that for the past 3 months. How do I get AOL to stop, other than changing my credit card? I would cancel it completely but I can't get my addresses off of AOL and I've used this email address for my business for many years. Do you have a phone number that would connect me to a live person? I realize that may not help either.

Reset access phone #'s on my computer,One city-Oneida which two towns over is considered long distance.Aol reuses to help rectifying to Verizon bill.Verizon charged me by the minute when the Oneida # was used.

When I bought my Dell computer,it came w/a Risk Free 6 mth.trial.Two days later on aug.17th Aol charged me for 25.95.I called them and told them to cancel I thought this was a risk free trial. The lady told me I would be credited in 2~3 billing cycles but,if I cancelled my account totally I would not get my refund. So,next I went to the free Aol but,you can't actually get online w/that so,I went to the 9.99 plan.In Sept. I called them back on the 17th to check on my refund. The man I talked w/assured me I would get my credit the following month.

It's Oct. Aol has took another charge out.I called them and told them what I was told last month,he said I would get the credit next month for sure.I am angry b/c I was told I would not be charged this month so,I did not put the money in the bank for this charge.Had i had known I would have. So,I want to speak to the manager,I am put on hold for a few mins.He tells me the manager is on the phone,I say I will wait.

A few mins. later a man gets on claiming to be the manager,I don't think it was He informs me that b/c I stayed w/Aol my refund will be consideered void.I have called them numerouus times before then and everyone assured me I would get my credit if this was true I would have went w/another company in the beginning.I stayed w/them to get my money back or atleast acredit.I want my money. It's not right for companies to be able to change the rules as they go to suit them.Someone should be accountable for lying to me.This is wrong.I think they were wantting me then to say I cancel so then legally they wouldn't be responsible.I am not stupid I know what I was told.

I sign in in FREE(unlimited) AOL account and my webmail was empty?! I call them and they said that I have to pay in order to have my e-mail back. Nobody mentioned while I open first time the account that I need to pay after a period of time. Is this blackmail, extorsion or legal theft?! I had important personal information. If something will happening with my personal important informations I WILL SUE THEM.

They double billed me one month, would not correct the billing error. I was not under contract for a specific plan rather on a bill by month. I canceled the debit card they were accessing and my service from them was shut off on the first day of the month they could not draw their fee. They have continued to send collection letters and threatening to turn my account over to a collection agency and report my account to credit reporting agencies.

I wrote on two occasions to stop the harrassment but it continued. I have since filed a complaint with the Texas Attorney General's office outlining their business practices and groundless threats.

for quite a few years i had aol service $9.94 .all of a sudden i got another service. i thought the price of aol went up it did not.they added a nother service.tha i knew nothing about.and that service is also $9.94.i called aol and they told me that they could not do it.they said i would have to do it on line .(1) there is know web site (2)their is now phone number.i made my bank aware of it. i want to cancel it they keep billing me . can you please help me.i don't know what else to do.

Called AOL to change my address and my phone number, they told me that my monthly charge from $9.99 went up to $11.99 a month I told them without notice I will not pay for that. I said I want to cancel my paying acount after 15 years paying then and 90% are getting it free. I wanted to cancel and they were trying to sell me all different plans and I kept saying cancel they kept on going not hearing what I had to say.

I hung up and called back and they said to keep what you have I will give it to you for $4.99, I said no, I want to cancel and wanted free AOL mail they finally said yes. I had to call them back four times. 1. its was not cleared on there end for me to get into my mail.
2. I checked it it was fine and then an hour later it did'nt work again.

3. Called again it was in INDIA not US. could not get my mail. They told me they would fix it and they did. And now it's back not working again. If you do not have a paying account they will hang up on you.

On 7/20/09, AOL illegally charged my H&R Block Debit Account $77.70 for an unknown reason. I called AOL to find out why I was charged and how did they get my debit acccount number, but I was told that someone possibly used my debit account number to open an account with AOL. I asked them for the name of the person that opened the account, but they would not tell me, for "personal" reasons, etc.

I received a bill from AOL for 103.60, II have an AOL free email address, but have not had an account with them since I was in grade school. I called the number on the bill and the rep told me I had to pay the full amount or my name would be sent to the credit bureau.

The invoice was marked as past due. The rep told me that they didn't have my address so the account went into late status and once they found my address, they sent the invoice. I have lived at my current address my entire life. If I had an account with AOL they should have had my information. I plan to send a certified letter disputing the claim, but don't want AOL to rune my credit score. This billing seems very wrong to me.

Following several years of poor AOL internet service, the company's retention department in 2005 (then based in Albuquerque, NM) promised that if I remained with AOL, they would lower my monthly charge to $9.95 per month, and that it would never go up in return for my loyalty. This was reneged on by AOL about a year ago, but corrected when I called customer service in Virginia. However, on 6/23/09, AOL emailed to announce a rate hike to $11.99 per month effective 7/23/09 - with absolutely no acknowledgment of the prior agreement. When I tried calling the American customer service number, 703-265-1000, I was called back by a Mr. ** who could not have been more rude or threatening.

He admitted that AOL's Albuquerque, NM office had closed down and thus that he did not have access to any paper records. However, he claimed that AOL could not possibly have promised me such a guaranteed price - thus effectively calling me a liar - because he had never seen such a plan offered. I explained to him that it wasn't a plan per se, but rather a promise made by the customer retention department. Mr. ** then asked me if I had a tape recording of the cell phone conversation I had had with AOL's disbanded Albuquerque office in 2005 to prove they had offered me the $9.95 per month plan, to which I explained that that was absurd, as the average person does not normally record conversations with reputable businesses, nor should we have to. Moreover, if I was making the story up, how did AOL come to charge me $9.95 for most of the last 5 years?

I further explained to ** that even my original price of over $20 per month way back in 2000 was agreed to over the phone - not by any paper contract. He then became threatening, saying he could kick me off AOL if I didn't like the pricing, and that it was my responsibility to prove I had been promised the $9.95 per month pricing if I stayed with the company, an obvious impossibility, other than the fact the company had mysteriously implemented this price in 2005. I was then hung up on by ** , and have since left nearly a half-dozen messages on the so-called executive section help line through the number noted above with none of my calls returned.

AOL switched my services to dial up from broadband; it went from $11.99 to $25.90 back on August 2007. I was away on vacation and I know for a fact that we never switched to this higher service. We never changed to a dial-up service so no need for this higher-priced service. Because we pay by credit card, we did not notice the big increase in cost until now. AOL gave me the date they changed the service plan - a date that we were away, so it was easy to catch their abuse!

They keep charging me for things that I do not want. They said it is I who charged them. Well, I did not do it. Ever since I put a stop to AOL service, it's the same thing over and over again. I am a handicap person and by my self, and they have got me going crazy. I have been sick for a whole week this last time. So finally, my bank told me to put a stop to my debit card, which I did. Do you people understand that we cannot get ahold of them by phone! We have to converse by email only.

I was charged $51.80 on May 1, 2009 and I called in and they sent me a form to fill out and mail back in. I did that 3 weeks ago and still no refund to my debit card. I did not order AOL due to the fact that I have had either Cox or Qwest internet for over 3 years now. I told AOL that it was and is fraud and they say they have not received this form I sent 3 weeks ago. They will not refund my money. I did not eat for 2 weeks in May and got severely ill. Plus I borrowed money to feed my dogs for the month of May and I owe it back and cannot pay it back because they refused to refund my $51.80 back.

I closed my AOL account in January, and they continued to bill me. So far, they claim I owe $75.96, and they keep telling me they are going to go to a collection agency to resolve the matter', if I do not pay immediately. I was very surprised to read similar horror stories about AOL on this consumer affairs website, how people are pissed off, or afraid that AOL is putting bad marks on their credit reports. I am afraid they will do the same to me.

I joined AOL in late September, 2008. I needed dialup for access while traveling. Because the service/connectivity/speed was so appalling (even for dialup), I called up within ten days and canceled. I have never used the account since. Why would I? I thought it was canceled. On 5/28/09, I started getting repeated calls as shown on the caller ID from a number I did not recognize; they did not leave messages (nine calls in 2 days).

I called that number back and got a heavily accented male (outsourced customer service; go AOL), and I managed to figure out that he was trying to tell me that I owed AOL over $100 for 4 months of service. I promptly hung up and called AOL. They have no record of my cancellation, saying instead that I "called" in February and switched to a free account; I did no such thing. The individual I spoke with (Raul? Aul?) was insistent that I called in February and still owed the money and that I had never called to cancel before. He sounded like a broken record!

They have sent me to collections over this. I have not used the service since late September. I will NOT pay them this money. I received NO phone calls, NO mail, NOTHING about this until the phone calls from the collection agency started 5/28.

I plan to file with the BBB in hopes that someone will do something about it, but based on the complaints I've seen about this VERY problem, I doubt it. I'm just grateful they didn't get the money, since I had a compromised debit card in October and had to close it. it just happened to be the one I had told AOL to bill.

Well about 9 years ago we got our first computer so we tryed the (AOL) 90 day free trial online deal and we were asured that no long distance charges would acure well there was & (AOL) took care of it ok but gave us alot of problems. well around Jan,the 5th 2009 My children noing i am disabled bought me a computer and told me to get online and have so fun so ok they got me the 30 day (aol) free trial disc so i remembered what happened the last time we tryed the online experince trial so before i even thought about going online i read the fine print and called aol to make sure i would not be charged any charges what so ever because iam disabled and only get a $687.00 social sercutiy check so i asked the rep. 3 times are you sure with these access numbers he help me put in am i going to be charged 3 times he told me no so i said are you sure he said if. if.

i was to call 1-800-827-6364 so i said no i want to make sure iam not going to be charged he said no Mr.B you wont be charged so i finished installing the software well that was didnt even stay on the full 30 days i think 25 days at the most and i get a $900.00 dollar phone bill that next month so we called them about it they told us to send them a copy of the phone bill and they would take care of it but call back in a few weeks and check well they said the board said no it was my problem now cam you imagine how i fill i got heart problems now in about 1 month iam gonna be with out a Phone,(no 911) just because of Aol's lies

I recently discovered that AOL WAS TRIPLE BILLING ME. QUADRUPLE BILLED ME IN Feb 09. They had intially declined my method of payment..a debit card...so I tried again. That too was turned down. As I was exiting the site it allowed me to put the billing method on my phone which I did. It later authorized the debit cards and began taking money out twice.

I was unaware I was being billed because i recieved the bill on my phone bill. I opened a new account..had my billing transfered over and just happened to catch the double charge on the account THEY HAD INTIALLY DECLINED. I tried to bring that to their attention was told by billing to call frauds who told me to have my bank contact them and my bank tried to recover the illegal withdrawals but aol refused any attempts to make it right.

I have full conversations with their representatives that show you what a run around they give. They play stupid. They keep giving prepasted useless responses. I am an ex-cop.... This is fraud. I believe this is a common practice for them..declining mehtods of payment..forcing you to try other accounts..then approving the ones declined so they can access it and fleece you. this is a crime. They figure since its petty theft its OK but they have exceeded the limits of petty theft on many occasions. Someone needs to be held accountable. Please advise for future recourse.

AOL sent me a letter stateing they had overcharged me $200.00 and soon I would rcvd a ck, never did, since my plan is only 9.99 per month, 3/09 they charged my account (FEB &MARCH) $ 31.28, then in May they cahrged my acount a total of 44.57.

When speaking with rep he stated that I had not paind for 4 months, yet it is drafted from my cking q mo and I have bank statements to prove I canceled my account 5/14/09 after being an outstanding memeber for 7 yrs. Because of the illeglegal acount drafting which not authorized ecept for the the 9.99 caused my account to be over drawn and I suffered fees in the amount of over 100.00 .

AOL has charged us random monthly fees from 9/2006 to 8/2008. AOL overbilling for FREE email account!
In Aug. 2006 it was announced that AOL email would be FREE, My husband, Mitch, called to cancel his $9.99 AOL monthly charge for email. The rep told him that the FREE email would not allow him to KEEP his existing email address.

Mitch did not want to change that email address so he agreed to pay the small $2.00 / month charge that the REP said it would cost to keep the same email address.

My husband blindly paid monthly but the amount began to change each month going up to 14.95$. Every month was different & we could not get a straight answer - when we called customer service. I discovered all the inaccuracies & finally cancelled with the link added to the web site on ~7/08. In total we were overcharged about $200! I have been unable to get through to someone to get my refund!

I do not have and never have had or even tried AOL. Somehow they got my credit card information and have been charging my credit card for 9.95-11.99 per month for the last 1 1/2 years. It was a small amount and thought it was connected to something else perhaps but then I finally looked back through my statements and noticed a pattern of unauthorized charges by AOL on the same date every single month.

For two and 1/2 years I paid AOL monthly on my US master card, credit card. I had a fraud alert on my card and had it cancelled. In Feb 09, AOL shut off my service because the credit card was cancelled. I contacted AOL customer service help desk to inform them of the changed card and to provide them with my new credit card information. The AOL helpdesk person informed me that the new credit card was in the system and my service would be restored within three days. I called back a week later in early March 09 because the service was still not working.

I was then told by the AOL helpdesk person that they could not accept my United States Credit card (master card from bank USAA). Neither the helpdesk person or the helpdesk manager could make a US credit card work in their system. I informed them that I had paid with a US credit card in the past 2.5 years. They actually questioned me on that, stating that it had to be a UK card. They did not have access to all the numbers on the card, just the last few, so they couldn't tell what country the card was from.

At that point I told them that since they are not providing service and since they can't or won't accept my US credit card then the account is closed.

Today, 6 May 09, I received a bill from Roxburghe collection agency informing me that I am required to pay my debt of 77.21 Pounds (about $130) to them to collect because AOL was not able to attain payment from me. It seems they plan to arrest me for not making payment for a service that was not provided. I made an honest effort to pay them so service would be provided. I don't believe I need to pay them now for services that weren't provided.

I have been charged as being late with my Aol account that I have lost count. I have checked with my Bank and they have been paid everytime. When I have tried to explain this to them they just want the money they thin I`m owed so I have been paying them double for close to a year

I'm a customer of AOL for 10 years. AOL charges me $31.95 a month for service. AOL has been deducting my checking account during this time. I learned TODAY, 4/29, through a friend that AOL service is free with DSL or cable connection. I have had cable connection for over 5 years. Therefore I contacted AOL directly to resolve matters with my account regarding the fact that I am paying for a service that is technically free.

I explained to the AOL rep my concern. She proceeds to explain how I can easily change my plan for a paying account to a free account but I will lose technical support of the software. I explained to her that is fine as I never contacted their support before bc I only use AOL for email purposes. However I was concerned why I never heard of this. The AOL rep repeatedly explained how I can easily go to "change my plans" and I would see the free plan offering. I said that is great but how I would have known to check that feature if I didn't know it to begin with and therefore has no reason to change my plan. I asked how did AOL paying customers know about this free service and she only continued to repeat herself about the change my plan option. After I asked to speak to a supervisor, and she told me that the supervisor is only going to follow the same protocol as she puts my on hold and returns with another explantion.

The AOL representative explained to me that the CEO sent an email to all AOL subscribers explaining the change in payment plan. I do not recall recieving this email and asked that she email me a copy. She proceeded to explain to me that she cannot because it is an internal communication.

If what the AOL rep explained is true, that AOL notified subscribers of this service in Sept. 2006, I've paid over $900 for a service that was technically FREE. I would like a refund of this money with AOL claims they will not provide. What can be done?

My girl friend bought a computer in November and tried to set up America On Line account for me. For some reason, we were not successful to set up an ID so deeted the free trial offer from AOL program. We do not need it for further purchase since we are getting free MSN on line. Now they are billing me for a program was never used. I did not registered with AOL and not interested. They are telling me that AOL account access has been suspended for non-payment. I ever had even an access to AOL which was deleted at the first place.

I protest the charge of $65.80 for AOL account that I never had. Me and my girlfriend have fairly good credit history and such an collection described above is not fare and correct. If I had an access to use AOL at the first place I would be willing to pay but me and my girlfriend have no AOL access at all. Please help me to solve this problem because they have an account number designed for my name to pay for a service does not and never existed.

Account opened May 2003 for free 45 days. Billed $28.90 a month from July to Dec, on phone bill. This account closed on Oct 13, 03. Another account opened on Oct.4 for 1175 hrs. free which they claim was up on Oct 7 (impossible that totals 72 hrs if I stayed on non-stop) They started billing my checking account on Nov.2 Also I recieve a lock out for non-pmt of an old sub account from my friends account from 2001.

I mailed a check recieved on Oct. 8,03 for $23.80 After finding out what that was billed for, Now, I'm fed up and write them a certified letter about the two accounts that they haven't closed(one real the other bogus even though this was my third request and I allready had one conf # by phone. Also closed every other acount they claimed I had by Dec 19.& had not used any of their accounts since I opened a Wallmart Connect account in Nov.03 (not knowing they were owned by AOL )

Still I am out $90.00 in NSF charges Plus (Phone bill) Nov. & Dec 03 $57.80 since I actually got a confirmation # in Oct for it +57.80 (for billing on the checking account) in Nov.& Dec. Also the $23.90 paid in Sept+ $28.90 for an old sub account. Total lost = $258.40

I had UN Authorized monies taken out of my acct - AOL stated they went back to 2008 and realized I had been charged incorrectly - WHich is not correct! this was today 4-11-09 - that this occurred - AOL refused to credit back my acct - I cancelled my AOL service with them immediately after speaking to a Supervisor ( in Europe) Adrainne. I rec'd No communicatioin from AOL that this transaction was to be taken out of my acct - no confirmation # - no notification prior to this transaction to avoid this - robbing me - because they have my Credit card info -

This un Auuthorized monies taken from my acct cost me NSF charges on other items that I was obligated for - I rec'd no notification of this auithorization or confirmation number that AOL was doing this

We have been on yearly billing with AOL which was costing $20/month. We have broadband through Frontier. When I called to cancell, they told me they'd sent an email in September saying that unless I cancelled by December 26 (I think) I would be billed for another year. I didn't get this email to the best of my recollection. Now they're billing me for a whole year. I've spent the past few weeks trying to resolve this I've been over-billed by them for quite some time (a member since 1979) My daughter only pays $9.99/mo.

I was told by AOL rep. that extra was for more antivirus protection. I hadn't signed up for this and wasn't told I was paying for extra protection. Obviously, I didn't have any, because in spite of having Norton and AOL over the years two computers became corrupted. I am willing to pay for usage from Jan - April but not for a whole year.

AOL has been debiting my Direct Express card since January 2009 for unauthorized charges. I don't even have an account with them. My service with them was cancelled July 11, 2008. They said they would take care of it, but they didn't. They claim they would send out a claim form for me to fill out and send back, but they didn't. I am disabled and receive social security disability. All my bills are accounted for each month, and AOL is not included.

I signed up for AOL three years ago and have been paying the $25.90 a month. I even paid it when it became free. Went from dial up service to DSL in November. Today they had teh audacity to send me a e-mail informing me that I will now be switched to free AOL but I owe them $103.60.

If the service is free to eveyone else why am I being penalized and has been for sometim. Why am I being asked to pay the $103.60. I find that insulting

I am confused as to why I am being charged for $11.99 for service when I already have Comcast.

these companies have attached themselves to my phone bill and refuse to stop billing me. aol has been billing me for 6 years. I did not authorize any of this and the aol charge has been 100% in active. for 6 years they have never called me to ask if I want to continue service yet they have been taking my money for 6 years. it seems like fraud to me. please tell them to stop and I think they owe me some money

thousands of dollar have been taken from me. Just so you know my bill is (not) delinqent

I have, for years, been paying $14.95 to something called TWX 0209 without knowing what is is. I understand it is with aol and has to do with dial up. I have not had dial up for a lot of years. I have Charter. I have had it for years. Please respond. Thank you

i have not used alo for a connection for quit some time now, all of the sudden i am being charged again (this has happen befor) for a service to connect to the internet, where i already have another service that i have been paying for quit some time now, and very happy with. this time i want all my money back from this useless company!!!!!!!!

i would say 7 months of the charge of $25.90 a month, has been taken out of my bank account, illegally, all together.i want that money back, asap. $181.30 they have charged me for no service!!!!nothing, nadda, zipp, the big O

Unauthorized bank account withdrawl. Billing was told WHEN to be paid. They waited until now and this cost me more money than I can afford. Emptied account. Bank charged OVERDRAFT FEE for $35.00 plus the non-sufficieant funds.

A charge of $4.95 has appeared for Twx aol voiceS Vcs1090901215204152 has been deducted from my checking account. Sometimes this would appear several times on one statment . I could not talk to a person and I was constintent ly disconnected when I called the computor systems This has been going on for several years. I have Comcast internet service for several years now and I do not need aol service this has been taken out of my account with out my permission.

I have been an AOL customer since late 1990's. The service is not the best, but it does the job. I had a second screen name which my son used to use but hasn't since early 2000. I have paid my bill monthly by credit card. Saturday, I got a past due bill for the long unused screen name from AOL and demanding I send them $25.00 to clear up the problem. I have tried repeatedly to get to talk to a live person, but all I get are more and more choices which lead no where. I am still trying to get this resolved, but I have a hunch it won't get done. Beware!

AOL has taken money from me since March 05 after I stopped there service. This made me made because when I called them about it they tried to say I didn't ever call to stop the AOL. This is untrue I have a business and use some one different. They said they couldn't refund my money.

Current AMEX bill shows AOL billing us $11.99, $11.99 and $25.90. They have been for years. Want to flip accounts to free. However, AOL showing me as a Free account so they will provide no access, either over phone ot Internet. Only want to speak to a representative.

Hundreds of dollars paid to AOL automatically with no access to change.

we have months of bank statements showing AOL has been withdrawing major money from our bank account.$21.95 here,$43.90 there,$65.85.and so on.Charging 1-3 times per month at different amounts.Called member services and we spoke to an operator who was unhelpful and very rude and refused to place a supervisor on the phone. After stating I was going to get a lawyer, suddenly I had a supervisor on the phone, who also was very rude and unhelpful.

We are now in debt over $1,000 perhaps close to $2,000 in debt now with oweing over draft fees at $35.00 each to the bank. Nothing was resolved with the company.

We have no internet provider in our area; not even dial-up. So in late Feb. or March of 2008 we joined AOL. Then we discovered they couldn't provide us with a local dial-up number in our area I tried to cancel. They wouldn't speak to me because it was billed to my husbands debit card. He called and they wouldn't speak to him because he wasn't the member. We finally got through and they said it was cancelled. That was in March of 2008.

They continued billing us for 25.90 per month, knowing they could not provided us the local access number for 10 months even after we cancelled!!! We filed a fraud claim with our bank and cancelled the debit card they were billing. On 01/22/09 I received a bill from them for 25.90. I called them. They said they have no record of us cancelling. They only have record of a non-member calling for some unknown reason in March of 2008.

They stated they would cancel but that I had to pay the 25.90 or they would turn it over to collections. They tried to intimidate me into giving them another card number over the phone to pay them. Finally one of there managers admitted that they were billing me for membership services that they knew they could not provide but that it was just too bad and that there was nothing I could do about it but pay or get sent to collections. They know what they're doing. It's fraud plain and simple. They know whether or not they can provide services but they con people and then take them for a ride.

10+ months at 25.90= 250.90. With no guarantees that it's really cancelled. I'm not paying them so tack on the damage to my(or my husband's) credit rating. We had perfect credit.

On December 2008 I discovered on my bank statement that AOL was debiting my bank account in the amount of $25.97 for several for months. Upon my discovering I made calls to inquire as to what these charges were for. I learned from that phone call that my account which was cancelled some seven years before,AOL continued to debit my account. The customer service reprentative sent to me a document to cancel my services, once again for the second time. She further stated that AOL could only reimburse me for so many months going back as to their error of billing and debiting my account.

I followed through and sent back the letter authorizing them to cancel this account which was as of that date illegal and not authorize by me. As of today's date January 21, 2009 this account which is "fraud" is still being debiting from my account. Lastly, my telephone as of this date Janu21, 2009 to AOL lead to two employees attempting to pose as "superiors" as I had request. The gentleman stated that the superior was busy and unavailable., and left me on hold for more that 45 minutes.

My next call was answered by a young female, who came back to me boldly pretending to be a superior even though I expose her, by explaining I recognize her voice. In a child like asian accent, she actually believed that she had fooled me into thinking she was indeed a different person and superior. After to confront her, she began creating noise on her mouth piece to scramble conversation's clarity. Upon this behavior, I decided to end the call.

Overcharged for service by $5 per month for the last several years.

AOL owes me money for the overcharges

Billed 3 times in the month of November which caused my checking account to be overdrawn. Total overcharged $66.80. My usual billing is 18.95.

Caused my checking account to be overdrawn and charged me $20.00 extra.

I called AOL when I discovered that I was being billed for an account that I had cancelled over two years ago. When I asked to speak with the supervisor he said he had no discretion to forgive the outstanding debt because I could not provide him with a confirmation number re my request to terminate over two years ago. I later learned that same day on another attempt to contact aol, this time their billing department, that the confirmation number that the billing department at AOL uses when members call in with various concerns is the same as his or her account number, something Mr. Johnson surely was aware of when he mislead me about AOL not being able to verify that my request to terminate ever had been made.

Mr. Johnson then left me on hold for the billing department where I eventually spoke with Harris who similarly avoided addressing the wrongful billing to an account that had clearly no online activity for years. When I requested to speak with his supervisor, he put me on hold again for a prolonged period of time after which I discovered I had been connected to technical support rather than his billing department supervisor, clearly another attempt to avoid responsibility. After hours on the phone including another billing department phone call that went to India to a Ramesh I fiunally learned that I would have to provide a written complaint, that the softwear of the various departments couldn't go back prior to 6-20-08. He provided me the address.

Payments made by autopay from my First Hawaiian Bank account of $32.90 per month for over a period of 24 months or more, and a last billing of $67.11 sent to AOL collections.

AOL - was automatically billing my account. They said my renewal date is Dec 19th and they will not refund the 11 months they have billed me for. They said that they will switch my account to the free account but will not refund me. They said they sent emails - which I never received about switching. I have been with them for over 10 years and would have stayed another 10 but now will change to Comcast.

THEY HAVE TAKEN $246 FOR SERVICES

On June 2006, I received a CD from AOL by mail, which I hand not requested, with a month of free internet. I used it, but I called (after 6pm western time), I asked him to cancel my account, he said OK, and a minute later told me all done. On August 27th, 2008 I received an AOL Account Report?, which is telling me that AOL is Unable to process the monthly charge on my card. At this time, I realized that AOL is (UNAUTHORIZED) charging my card and this account is active without my knowledge. I have not use this account even for a minute in past 25 months, because I DID NOT know that this account exists. Therefore, there is no reason to pay a monthly fee.Now is more then two months AOL (AOL Billing Operation & Services) did not responded to my letter.

AOL WAS CHARGING MY ACCOUNT FOR 25 MONTHS WITHOUT MY AUTHORIZATION, EACH MONTH FEE IS $25.99. TOTAL OF $649,75.

In July of 2008, we changed our billing amount for AOL from 24.95 to 9.99 per month. This amount is automatically paid through our Citi Visa card. During the transition from the larger amount to the smaller amount. AOL doubled our payment. We are now being dunned by a collection agency saying that we must pay the 25 dollar amount. We do not owe the money and would like AOL to rescind the amount they turned over the the collection agnecy.

Aol Has been Charging me since at least 2004, for a service I have never had! I have called and they sent me an affidavitt. I am just a little scared to show them where they have wrongfully charged me $1500 or more.

I have never had an AOL account. I am a struggling 20 something trying to get on my feet, and have had problems with my bank account. I had been wondering what's going wrong, but I figured that it was a descrepancy on my part. It wasn't until recently, when I had an overdraft that I know wasn't my fault that I discovered AOL has been charging me for a service I have never used since 2004, or maybe even earlier. That puts them owing me somewhere in the ballpark of $1500-$2000. Luckily I've kept my bank records since 2004, so I am going to cross my fingers and hope for the best.

I have used AOL for email for many years. Last year I changed to free service until I learned that you can't talk to customer support unless you pay. So I began paying with my debit card. It has been a year that my debit card has been charged automatically. Last week they closed my account (with 4 family members) without informing me. I was told to call their fraud department when I called them and found out it is only open from 10am to 7pm. I lost a day of business and personal emails.

When I called they told me that someone else was being charged for my account. I asked how it was that they did not pick up on this immediately and straighten it out. No answer. They told me the only way to fix it was for me to send a copy of my bank statement and driver's license. I refuse to do that. How do I know that they are not the perpetrators of fraud?

I have entrusted them with my credit card information and they don't know when a strange number is being billed. I find that strange. It was their responsibility to help me settle the problem as I am the victim as well and a longtime customer. Instead I was forced to pursue them, wasting much precious time and I have lost all of my contacts.

I have had to find a new carrier (about which I am thrilled) but have had to recreate my contact list which is a long, time consuming process. There are many which I have been unable to find and now I need to search and recreate my contacts. I and my family members have used this carrier for business and personal matters and it is a major disruption in our lives.

My family has had an AOL account for eight years. My mom was the original account holder, but in 2006, when my mother passed away, I called AOL and requested the account be put in my name and that they switch our full service account to a bring your own access account because we also had Comcast Internet and now AT&T Internet, but after looking at my bank statements, I noticed that they have been charging me the full service account price since 20006. When I called them and questioned them about it, I was told that they have no record of my request.

I'm a single mother of two boys and every dollar counts. They've stole over $500 from me and my boys.

I just realized I have been even triple charged by AOL on only one account. They charge me thru my bank, thru my credit card, and thru my AT&T telephone bills. We should all get together to suit AOL for this fraud. I think that together we can make a difference.

AOL was billing my family for an account that we did not have. An account from 2007 was cancelled. In 2008 we used a no risk trail account with the AOL Walmart promotional. We were being billed double through our payment method, without recieving a bill. We thought since we didn't logg onto AOL only twice then there were no charges. We noticed that our bank account was taking on charges.

We recieved no charges prior to the walmart Aol promotional. We called AOL to cancell the service they were charging us for, that we were not using. I asked about the double charges to my bank account, and was told that I had two accounts. The so called older account, surprisingly just started charging in sync with the Aol Walmart promotional, which we never used but twice logged onto well into the trail period, and deleted for a local broadband service.

I was being chareged for a service that I didn't use. AOL calls it a subscription, that by their own words is renewed every 30 days, thus the billing cycle, but a renewall not authorized by me every thirty days. The instructions are misleading, by saying you will be billed after the trail period, but not formally acknowledging that you have to cancel by phone or you will be placed in a billing cycle if you use the service or not.

Calling this type of extorting consumers to pay for a service not rendered or solicited and calling it A subscription service, that doesn't have a subscription period; begining date and ending date as defined, is actually loopholing the act and definition of fraud.

Got a letter saying I owed for aol account I do not have and have never had, I have free aol e-mail only. It says past due and that my service is turned off, I don't have any service. They ask for credit card info etc., don't show any e-mail address to contact, only snail mail and phone number.

This is second one, I haven't checked my credit rating, its bad anyway, but these guys are ********! Where do they even get any of this info? Its a very pushy and demanding letter and its caused MUCH psychological distress, I thought it might be a phishing scam.

Back in October 2007, I first noticed that AOLs wrong billings had a really bad affect on status of my bank account. I first complained about this in February 2008 and March 2008. Between February 2005 and July 2006, I was on a contract to receive AOL Anytime dial up for 15.99 per month. This was later reduced to 11.99 to be charged once per month (a single monthly charged). No other services have ever been sign up by me.

This contracted was later cancelled in July 2006. Since 2006 I received broadband service from another provider Orange. Between 22/02/2005 and 01/04/2008 the following billings from AOL have occurred Billed 59 times at 15.99 equals 943.41. Billed 9 times at 11.99 equals 107.91. Incurred penalty charges after being billed by AOL 8 times at 10.00 equals 80.

When this problem was highlighted in 2006, AOL failed to cancel this or solve the problem. I cancelled back in July 2006 for the fact I was being doubled charged. Have informed AOL by e-mails and letters for over two years and have only received two letters from AOL.

I have no option by to go to small claims court. I read your report entitled Class Action Accuses AOL of Double-Billing Scheme, I would like to read detail accout of the particulars of the claim and maybe AOL defendence - to help me write my claims.

Instead of being charges the monthly fee of $11.99 I was overbilled on my credit card three months in a row. The billing amount was $109.00, $109.00 and $100.00. with no explanation.

My personal credit card account was charge three over the limit fees for the excessive overbilling.

I was promised a refund of $18.99 to my visa debit card for charges taken out of my account prematurly. I did recieve that refund but I was also told that I would recieve a refund of the $35.00 nsf charge on my account because of the overdraft this first charge caused. all I was to do was to fax proof of the overdraft charge which I did do. I was told that yes this would be refunded to me. I recieved an email telling me the information was recieved and the credit would be made. But now they say they are not going to Refund that charge.

I will have to cover the nsf charge to my bank account.

There have been three unauthorized charges for July, Aug and September of 9.99 on my charge card. Called AOL, the automated system doesn't have me on file since I don't have an account with them. Finally got to a rep and she told me I would have to call back in and hour or two because their system was down. I can't get anywhere with these people!

Although it's only 9.99 a month, if it keeps going it is going to add up and end up costing me money for services that I don't receive.

i have never had an account with these people and somehow they obtained my cc# and are charging me $26.00 a month. I have called them several times (they cannot find an account in my name) i have written to their billing office and have not gotten a response. I checked out the web site on my cc statement and found it full of complaints just like mine. can no one do anything about this company.

i cannot afford for them to steal that money from me each month so far they owe me $180.00

AOL Request to view itemized AOL monthly bill...

No way to see monthly bill... suspect overbilling...for the past 5 years... Impossible to get satatement.

I was going over my banking statement because I called to cancel my membership before I was billed again, when I saw that I was billed on 9-2-2008 foe 25.90 and I was also billed on 9-30-2008 for 25.90 again. now that caused me to be overdrawn at my bank. Aol said that my refund could take over a month, How can they over bill and get away with it.

when they billed me the second time it caused me to be overdrawn, also I had stopped my membership on saturday, before I got billed again, They are just down right stealing from people, now they want to give me free membership for life, what are they trying to get away with.

they had stopped charging my bank for a while then all of a sudden they started again they stopped in 2005 and started back in 2008 aol is charging my bank account $25.90 a month

i had canceled back in 2005 befor the 90 day free trial was up i called the number on the package

I had a block on my credit card aol continued to charge my account without restoring service for 4 months and refuse to give credit for payments they received.

Money I can't afford to give away. I have been avoiding making any charges to my account in order to pay it off my bill. With the state of the economy I can't afford to pay someone for service I was unable to use.

I received a charge on my credit card from AOL on 9/9/08 for $51.80. I do not have a account with AOL nor will I ever get one. I called to explained to them that I don't have an account them and for them to put the $51.80 back on my card. I finally got through to a agent that proceed to agrue with me and tell me they could not give me a credit back.

I ask her do you have any information stating that I have a account with you she replied No. I then told her I'm telling you now that I didn't authorize you to charge my card for anything and that no one else has access to my card. She told me that they would send me something in the mail and it would take me 30 days to get my money back if they found it was a error. I said to her your telling me that it will take you 30 days to give me my money that I didn't authorize you to take in the first place and that I'm telling you now it's a error.

I explained to her I'm a single mother of two little girls and that $51.80 may not mean anything to them but does she know how many meals that is for me and daughters. It was awful and I still haven't recieved my money back. I wish that a lawyer would take my case and let me sue them for as much I could for this inconvience. I'm a victim and they are treating me like the accused. AOL need to be STOP!

On January 2008 my son moved out to other state so i closed his AOL account via mail to the florida office. every month since january they have been directly billing my checking account twice for $16.96 plus costing me another #35.00 each on overdraft charges for there billing me for account i closed in january 2008. yesterdays bank statement read they billed me for $54.95 for what? so each month they cost me $16.95 + $35.oo bank overdraft fees. so $51.95 each month for an AOL account i closed seven months ago in january.

my bank said it is closing my account cause od AOL. i have written AOL twice a month on this. no responses. so $35.00 x 2 = $70.00 + $16.95 begg9nning of month plus again $16.95 end of month billing off my checking account. that's $86.95per month AOL charges on my checking. i have all the bank statements to prove it.

AOL is stealing not only my personel information but trying to steal my banking information as well!

AOL is asking for my personal bank information.

About a year ago i made a final payment to AOL because my computer was broke. The visa I used was not the same as the one that had a monthly direct debit had been set up on. Until now i havent realised that for the lastyear AOL have taken 17.99 a month, unauthorised from my account when i am not even with them. The account (if still open) is unused and i am now with sky.

Economically, AOL have frauduently taken a high amount of money from me and the only reason i found out was when i had to pay charges to my bank for overdrawing.

I received a letter from the AOL Billing Department threatening to terminate my account if I did not write to them within 24 hours to verify my account. I was out of the country for two weeks and this etter was old when I read it.

Although my address is stilll working, I do not know what to do. [They] provided no telephone number or return address to take care of this matter.

I signed up for AOL service about a year ago using my debit card. I used it very briefly and then forgot about it. In the meantime, I lost my debit card and had another one reissued. Apparently, AOL continued to attempt to charge my debit card unsuccessfully for monthly services (that I never used). Since I do not use this account, I was not aware of this.

One year later I have received a bill from their collection department stating that I owed them for four months of service. I questioned why they feel it is ok to continue to charge someone for additional monthly service when it is obvious the customer doesn't know that the account exists since the first bill wasn't paid. Also, there are no transactions on the account so it was clear I wasn't using it. Most other businesses would value their reputation and never adopt this policy. The account would be placed on hold.

I told the rep I would paid the bill but I wanted a guarantee that account would be cancelled as I have heard that they have a bad reputation with this. I refused to pay by phone and asked for their address to mail a check. I am now hesitating with this as I have this feeling they will open up the door for additional charges since their cancellation process is not obvious. What should I do?

Over billing for this month

For approximatly 1 yr AOL has been making small withdrawl from my bank account listing them as Authorized automatic withdrawls. However the ammount was small enough that I did not notice until I logged on last month and this month. The first withdrawl was for $3.95 and the second withdrawl was for $14.95.

My bank has blocked the access from AOL; however how would I recuperate the almost $230 that were taken? I have never had AOL through my bank. It was always through my husbands.

For years we have been grossly over-billed by AOL for dial-up service, although we had switched to high-speed access about 3 years previous. At no time were we ever notified, directly and in a clear manner, of the price differential in that the dial-up plan has been $25.90 per month versus the lower rate of $11.99/month for high-speed. Certainly not made aware in any reasonable manner that any normal person would accept as reasonable notice. Expecting us to go to a web site to discover this rate differential, would assume that we even knew of the pricing practice in advance.

I never recall receiving any sort of notice explaining this type of pricing structure. Neither does my mother who shares this account and has been paying for the service. Clearly, if we had, we would have had the sense to request an immediate adjustment rather than over pay for a service that has not been used for years. I am outraged by the service terms that enable a company to charge fees for a service that should have been adjusted years ago.

Assuming consumer knowledge of pricing practices assumes that we were educated and made aware. That never occurred. We have paid at least $500.00 in overages over a period of 3 years, with no way of knowing that there was such an extreme price differential. Clearly we would like some sort of consideration made in response to this matter.

Apparently I have been being billed for an internet service with AOL....after buying a new computer and signing up for trial service 2 and 1/2 years ago. After asking the operator about this...he replied that there was never a request to cancel the service after the trial period. We have never used AOL and I said you can surely see that we have not been logging on or accesssing any account in this timeframe how can I be billed for services not used?>???

He replied that he could only refund for the current month; and gave me an address. I guess I am out around $900.00 dollars for something I have never used...granted silly me for not noticing this charge to my account for so long......but how can they possibly get away with this. I've been paying for services I obviously have not been using!!!

I guess I am out around $900.00 for services I have never used. The representative I spoke with at AOL said I have been being charged for 2 years and 6 months!!!

On 8/18/08 I had discover that my credit card was being chared 25.93 for internet services. The only reason I thought some thing was wrong. My wife had me pay our Verizon bill. On our bill it showed internet services that were provided to my home address. This threw up a red flag! I spoke with my wife and to my suprise we have not had AOL for over 4 years.

Why I did not catch this sooner, I simply dont use are computer at home as I work 12 to 13 hours a day and use my computer at work. The Verizon bill is in my wifes name and AOL which was canceled eyars ago was automicaly charged to my credit card. After speaking to my wife wife she had a hard time with the people from AOL and got int a haeted arguement over trying to cancel. That being said, they have been charing me for a service that they do not provide for my home computer. I called my credit card provider to dispute the charges and was told I was not alone with this problem.

I am out about 2000 dollars and have to dispute the charge every month from here on in becauuse my credit card is still active and Capital One Bank claims that they can not stop the automatic billing from AOL. Please help. This is criminal on their part but they are getting away with it. My credit card can only dispute charges dating back 120 days.

My husband and I recently cancelled our bank account and opened a new one. well two months later i have FOUR different charges from AOL. we stoped the service three houses and six years ago.

I called AOL and spoke with Jen she said that AOL had been charging me for a service i had cancelled long ago. well my banker said he could look up all the charges for past years. when he called me to my suprise AOL had been charging me DOUBLE fees for the years of 04 and 05. I talked to their consumer affairs people and they said to submit a letter and documentation....but this is unreal, how does a big company get away with all this.

Being they use direct debit, unless you moniter it every time they overcharge you. It has happend 4 times since Sept last year. First it was a 16.00 charge because I was using my check acct. They said it would be cheaper using my debit card! Only pay 9.00 a month they said they sent an email. I did not get one,

this week the same thing it went to 12.00 and they said it was to pay for online dial up? They also said they sent an email. I use DSL they are stealing thousands if not more by these sneaky means. Does the consumer have a chance?

I canceled my AOL back 4+ years ago. They still continued to deduct $19.95 - $22.95 from my bank account all those years. When I got married last year I closed my back account and open a new one with my wife. That ended the charges but then I get a phone call from a Collection agency charging my $75 to close my account plus they charged me $3.95 for the call. How fair is this when for 4+ years they got money from me and never paid it back. I paid the collection agency and was told they would send me a letter saying my account has been paid in full. I have never yet received that letter. I am out a lot of money and want to know how I can get any of it back.

I have been billed for the past 3 years for AOL charges that came directly out of my checking account. I did not register for AOL and have been unsuccessful in getting this stopped. Furthermore, for 2 years the charges were $9.95 then went to $11.95 and hav now jumped to $16.95. I am unable to cancel via the web as they ask for a USERID and I do not have one, since I never signed up. How do I get this stopped and refunded for the unauthorized chages to my checking account?

This has caused financial obligations that I do have and that are authorized to be paid late and incur late fees as well as bank charges. In addition to loss of money from my bank account

In early June the following message appeared on my computer screen: AOL Error Topic of the Error mesage The main.idx database file is damaged. Error: 65-FONL The error body is below To fix the problem, ollow these steps to reinstall your AOL software. I followed the instructions and was then told I had to create a new screen name which I did. The following day wnen I went on line my old screen name came up.

I called AOL and spoke with a man who identified himsel as Nelson After explaining the situation to him he assured me that the account created under the new screen name would be cancelled and no charges would be assesed to my AOL account. He gave me a cancellation number .

My Discover Account has been billed for the additional AOL account that I was assured was cancelled without charge

I have never used the aol service since I was talked into signing up for it - never able to log on - went with service from a more reliable and hometown service, yet have been charged $25.90 for services I have never received or used. I want to be credited for the unused services and I want it to be credited to my credit card charges ASAP.

Major frustration in trying to contact anyone in trying to resolve this dilema.

America Online has been charging my credit card $25.90 since April 2006. Problem: I've never signed up for AOL. never wanted it, never needed it, as I use high speed cable. Unfortunately I didn't notice the charges until July 2008. I've alerted my credit card company, and they've canceled my account number and I've filed a declaration of unauthorized use with them.

October 28, 2007 Stupidly signed up for AOL because I could not get onto the internet with my new computer any other way. STATEMENT WAS 90 DAYS FREE but obviously IT WAS NOT I was immediately charged $25.90 every month, beginning November 30, 2007. February 9, 2008 Called AOL (after noticing charges on my bank statement) to cancel AOL. [They] then gave me credit for Feb. March 3, 2008 - Called again and spoke to Kevin Anderson; another cancellation # April 30, 2008.

Called my banks dispute department. I was told that I would have a full refund within 7-10 days. They continue to bill me every month and then immediately issue a credit. I cancelled the credit card that they have on record and I show a credit to my account from AOL. I suggested that they need to enhance communication between departments; upgrade their computerized tracking system; stop trying to make money from everyone and start providing customer service. I will also send a copy to the Better Business Bureau.

I have been a member of AOL since 1995. Last year I became unemployed and my credit cards maxed out. I contacted AOL and they allowed me to prepay my account which I have been doing, usually two months at a time. In May 2008 I sent a money order for $55 to be applied to my account which would be more than enough to cover June and July. On June 2, I received an email from AOL stating that they received my payment. On June 25, when I tried to log into AOL, I received a message stating that I must provide a new credit card and that I had a balance due of $24.90. Using a friend's computer I was able to get AOL help desk, as I always have trouble with their customer service on the phone. I was helped by somone name MHI HAIDS who claimed that my payment of $55.00 was received on June 2. My payment was due on June 1, so I was LATE for my June payment.

So therefore the payment was applied to July and August and I still owe for June and cannot access AOL until I pay the $24.30 for June. They are giving me no way to pay that but by credit card which I do not have. Have you ever heard of anything like this. They have $55 of my money but will not use that to credit my June bill as it arrived June 2.

So they have my $55.00 but I cannot access AOL until I give them a credit card to cover for June. WHen they acknowledged my payment on June 2, they never told me it was being applied to July and August. Please help me. It is easiest to contact me by e-mail I can access my AOL email through my friend's computer and I have been doing that daily for the past few days.

This company is demanding another $24.30 before I can access my account and yet they are holding a credit for $55.00. I do not have a permanent full time job and I try to pay AOL at least two months at a time when I have the money. I have always sent the money in at least ten days before it was due. And even so, I am not able to get into my AOL account from my home computer. To get my AOL email, I must go to my friend's computer and log in through the internet explorer. Since I am seeking employment, this is quite a hardship.

I used AOL years ago, and settle with them when I discontinued there servi ces. Now years later I get a bill saying I owe 71.80. They would not communicate with me vie e-mail, so I called them (phone) months ago but, they were going to find out the problem and get back to me. they did nothing to solve my problem. I asked for my signinture or some kind of proof and they could not give me anything. Now they are saying they will send me to a collection agency.

I am trying very hard to clean up my credit, I payed off all my charge cards medical and other fees. I feel AOL is screwing with me. I don't own them anything.

i got a draft from my bank stating aol took money out of my account i did not give them permission to do this

i have now got overdraft fees

AOL is auto. upgrading customers to a plan that charges more and offers insurance...however that insurance is not good in NY. Why can AOL get by with this, charging people for something they cannot get. They have been doing it for years.

Two months ago I got an email stating that I had an outstanding bill with AOL. They were debiting my Citibank Credit Card for for approximately three years for the amount of $5.95 monthly. I thought it was to pay for the McAfee Software which protects the computer. When I got a new card because the old one was expiring, the new card never arrived so Citibank closed the account and gave me a new number. Now I am getting harrassing calls stating that I owe them money when the account was closed several years ago, in reference to the voice mail when I used their telephone service. I told them to close it because I refuse to pay them any more money and will be taking measures to sue them for payments to them that were not authorized.

Signed up for a year of aol, 239.40. About a week later decided to go with free aol, already had hi speed cable. Called and canceled snd went with free aol and some enhansments,9. 99 a mo. went for 2 or 3 mo taking out the 9.99 ever mo but never got any of my 239.40. Called and now they tell me I am not elgible for a refund.

Am writing to Billing in Sterling va, filing a complaint form with attorney General off, Indiana and filing a report with visa. They act like we are sheep ready for the sheering!

Other than losing 240.00, none, but isn't that enough?

If anyone is having a problem with AOL taking charges out of your bank account or credit card since they are impossible to let you talk to a live person here's what I did. I called the 1-800-827-6364 and said I wanted to sign up with a new account. I got a live person in 30 seconds.

After I told her about the $25.90 that was unauthorized by be to be paid to AOL she gave me the Fraud Department Phone# which is 1-800-307-7969. Of course they are closed over the weekend but I found another way to get some attention I sent an email to billing@aol.com. I haven't got a response yet but I did last time within 2 hours. I have to wait until Monday to take this any further but when I do get my $25.90 credited into my account (like they did last time).

I'm changing banks, credit cards so this won't happen again.

I had my first experience of being charged $25.90 on my credit card back in 02/08. After talking to my bank's fraud department they told me my card had been compermised and put a hold on that card and issued me a new card. Getting to a live person at aol was sneaky but it worked. When asked by the telephone promter if I wanted to open an account I said yes. Within 30 seconds I had someone on the line.

That time it all worked out well, Aol credited my bank account for the $25.90 apologized and all was well, until today another charge of $25.90 was taken out of my checking account no credit card was used this time. So I have to go through the same all over again. After this last time is dealt with I'm changing my bank and get all new credit cards just in case some thief found access to my bank information.

Aol sent me a bill for $103.60 saying the amount was past due and my subscription was cancelled. I never subscribed to AOL. He told me to write a leeter and fax it to them. I told AOL I dont have a fax machine and would not pay due to their error.Their customer Service representatives are extremely unprofessional and not to mention rude. I was told by AOL to give them a credit card number so he could reinstate my service. I explained to him I would never give him any information about myself since he already had it anyway.

At his point I asked to speak to a supervisor and was told I could not ask such a question. He would not help me at all and was being a jerk trying to do anything but connect me to a supervisor. All he had to do was give me the number to the fraud department of AOL. I called AOL fraud department and explained the situation. Another clueless rude representative. He explained they are located in India and again had the nerve to ask me for a credit card number to start a new account. I told him once again the last thing I would ever be doing is giving AOL my information and that I do not do business with poor establishments. He was pushy and rude and basically did not care about the fraudlent bill AOL sent me. All he cared about was getting a credit card number from me.

I am still trying to get confirmation from someone that I am not responsible for this bill.

I have been an America Online customer for some years my account was opened on the 30 of the month I use electronic payment now with my direct deposit that comes in on the third I have been forced to pay over draft fees I have asked AOL if they would change my monthly payment they absolutly refuse although the request for payment comes on the first sometimes second which means that the deduction happens one day before direct deposit 35 dollar charge the Bank keeps sending me back to AOL and AOL absolutly refuse to do anything I'm a fixed disabilty income

I have paid a lot of 35 dollar overdrawn fees sometimes on the same day that AOL was sent payment

I had encounted a problem with America Online with a overcharged billing error. As of May, 2005 AOL begins deducting two to three payments a month out of my account. Some months two payment was taken out and other three payment was deducted. This transaction went on for appromately one year before I discover that this money was taken out of my account.

I called AOL I was told by Janiser by phone that she will check into this matter and call me back. I never received a response from AOL. MY bank discontinue the deduction from AOL in May, 2006. Due to AOL illegal bank account, I was charged $800.00 over the amount due them. This was caused by AOL making multiple deductions from my account a month . While thery should have only made one debit transaction.

The damages that AOL caused me was multiple overdrafts in my bank acount. This cause me stress and hardship to on my other bills.

As of April 1 2008 I was informed by AOL customer service phone service that they had been charging my bank account for services, email specifically, when they had made AOL Mail service free for back in April 1 2007 (approximately). I kindly requested a refund stating that I didn't use the internet dial up service for that year and I only used the mail system of AOL. My request was not received graciously.

They gave me an address to write my concerns to. I was told by the representative that my issue would be taken care of at that address. I wrote and mailed letter on April 2 2008. I never heard a response as of today, May 23, 2008 so I called AOL BILLING and spoke to a representative in AGAIN in regards to this issue. The girl was very rude and abrupt with me. She said she won't give me a refund for that year. I asked to speak with the Supervisor. He told me the same thing and was very abrupt and rude. I asked to speak to HIS supervisor and He said that person doesn't accept phone calls! I feel ripped off. The amount I paid for that Allotted time AOL WAS FREE WAS $32.95 per month totaling: 395.40 for April 1 2007 to April 1 2008.

I was wrongfully charged for 1 YEAR of service of AOL when the SERVICE WAS FREE FOR THAT YEAR! I am at a loss of : $395.40 cents. I feel that AOL has no respect for their customers and they left me feeling upset and despaired. I will never ever do business with them again.

I am writing regarding fees that have continued to be electronically deducted from my account despite the fact I ceased being a paid AOL Internet customer two years ago (and I was forced to continue payment upon yesterday to continue a dial-up service that I do NOT have until May, 2008)

Back in 2006, we phoned AOL to cancel the account, at which point we were told we could become FREE users of the AOL service. We agreed to these terms and began using the AOL email only service as free users. During that time, Sonya subsequently received an email from AOL stipulating as much. Only recently did I come to realize that AOL has continued to be bill my account from that point of April 2006 until May 2008, some 25 months of fees at a cost of $32.90 each month.

To say the least, I am outraged by this discovery and am vehemently demanding that I be reimbursed by AOL the full amount of $822.50, which represents the total cost I have incurred over the over billed period.

I used an AOL CD-rom that has 1175 hours free for 50 days on it. I installed it on May 2 and I've only used it for les than one month. Already they are saying that I owe them $25.90 for a whole montha nd that they are charging me as a pre-paid acount.

I had used AOL a few years ago and everytime the number of hours on the outside was quoted, the payments for the price plan wern't required until the free hours are used. The AOL Live help rep told me a few days after I contacted them to be SURE that these hours weren't a gimmick, he told me that I would have a 90-risk free trial. My free hours were not to expire until 07/31/2008. I had to explain to him my CD-ROM promised 1175 free hours and I didn't want to pay anything until those free hours are up. I didn't use the acount a month and today they are charging me with $25.90 outstanding balance.

the phone rep that cancelled my acount said it was a 'risk-fre' trial, not a 'fre' trial. Well, the CD-ROM said 1175 hours FREE, not Risk Free, then you're subjedt to pay the whole amount before the billing cycle. They did cancel my AOL account, but they say I STILL owe them $25.90, and that if I don't pay it, they'll try to 'contact' me to 'see what they can do about it.' It sounds like they mean taking legal action. The canellation rep said he'd submit a refund request for me for the $25.90, and I'll only get a refund if I pay the $25.90 anyway(?) For now it's still an outstanding bill.

It has been a nightmare w/AOL. I cancelled my service in March of 2006 (That is another nightmare) because I moved to another area and went with another provider. @ 8 months later or so I was contacted by a AOL Rep stating that I owed them money, to which I explained their error because I cancelled service in March.

I was then sent to an outside collection agency stating that AOL had been withdrawing funds via automatic withdraw from my bank account through July 2006 and also stated that would reduce (supposedly what I owed) because they noticed a double billing error. The agency rep continued to state that AOL cancelled my account finally in September 2006 and wanted me to send payment to cover July-Sept. When I replied that in fact AOL owed me a refund for April-July 2006, plus the additional refund for their double billing error. The agency rep stated that if I just paid July-Sept 2006 first, then he was confident that AOL would then refund all moneys due back to my account.

AOL has been a nightmare and this agency is worse. The agency also stated to me that I was required to pay because I had used AOL's services through September? (First he said June, then August...etc) I stated that was impossible since I no longer lived at that residence with that phone number or a computer even connected. I asked them to send or fax me proof, which they said they didn't have. They were just going by the information AOL provided.

AOL has negatively affected my credit by reporting misinformation to the credit bureaus. Worse, they have contacted my old residence (where my ailing and elderly parents live) and screamed over the phone at my mother. My niece who witnessed this harassment said that the man who called was yelling so loudly and out of control she could hear him from the next room. My niece had to grab the phone away because my mother was shaking so bad and so upset that she thought my mother was going to have a heart attack. When she asked for his name and return phone number, he screamed at her he wouldn't provide it, spoke belittling of me (basically being a derelict) and hung up. My mother thinks he said his name was Lee C(something). My niece immediately appraised me of the incident. Three minutes later I received another call from my niece that another rep had just called (not to apologize) and also refused to state his name or give a return phone number. It took several hours to get my mother calmed down.

I noticed I was being billed 25.90 on my child support debit card for 3 months from AOL.I called and they said I had two accounts.I said no I do not. They told me the scrren name of the account.I said no I do not have two accounts. The women stated it was not being used and she would credit the 3 months back to my card. After some time pass I checked and was not credit the amount.I called again and the person said it takes 10 to 20 business days more.

I waited and called again. The person who I might had spoke broken english and was very frustrating to try and understand. He at first gave me run around then told me my card number did not excist.I was ****** he made me hang on for a while came back on and said oh I found it.You will be credit in two to three billing cycles. I said let me speak to your supervisor. After while supervisor comes on and says oh well you had this special account and at the end of 3 months you can cancel and get your money back after two to three cycles.

I tried to tell him that I did not open or use this account. He said it was used two days for a few minutes when it was opened and I would just have to wait. Then I asked to speak to his boss. He stated his boss on vacation.I said well give me another number because aol is huge and you can not be the only center. He said yes it is. Now I come to this site and realize all the years pryor that I had aol I ahd been being double billed.

I had direct billing of an AOL annual account for 8 years. I was waiting to change to a free screen name at the end of my account period. When I was told my account was due, I switched to a free screen name. I had closed the direct billing checking account. AOL tried to bill it then tell me that they had renewed my contract. The result was that they continued their difficult cancellation policy by sending me to collections.

I wanted to cancel my subscription to AOL but they would not let me. I've made them aware that I do not understand the extra $4.95 that all of the sudden was added to my $12.95 account.

They have charged me for $24.95 every month for at least two years for a service that I have rarely accessed until today.

It was a major project to finally get a person at AOL to cancel the billing for my free email that has gone on long after the service was to be free. Then as soon as the service becomes free I have trouble getting into my mail at aol. There are lots of pop ups offering service for a fee but some how there is a system Problem opening my mail. I do not think this I a concidence that suddenly I have problems opening my mail.

Last year I made a one-time payment to AOL for one year of service. I was sceptical about giving out my debit card number but after clarifying with the customer service representative that the transaction would only happen one time and I would be billed the following year I proceeded with the transaction.

This year I received an email from AOL on March 18,2007 explaining that they would be using my debit card to charge me for another year of service. I contacted AOL immediately and was told that as soon as the debit was made to my account they would credit me back the same amount that same business day. The transaction did not debit my account until March 27, 2007 and it was for $240.00; needless to say there was no credit made to my account as stated by their representative. Also, because my bank pays the largest items coming through first they overdrew several small transactions coming through my account the same night leaving me with $245.00 in overdraft fees from the debit made to my account!

I called AOL again immediately and was told that they would refund $219.00 to my account (they debited $240.00) and that if I wanted to try & get refunded for my NSF fees I could fax that department with a whole list of personal information including bank statements and they would try to approve my request. I asked for a phone # to that department and was told they do not give out that number. I was also told that the $219.00 creidt would take up to a week to be placed back into my account. Even though I had no former Overdraft history on my checking account I was told by my financial institution that they would not refund the charges because it was AOL's responsiblity but they would fax over the information to AOL. I was alos told by the Manager that helped me at the bank that a similar situation happened to her with AOL & that it took her a month to get back her NSF fees from them.

aol had charged me $321 just in one month. My monthly payment is only $6.95 and I have a broadband turn on that's why I call in to cancel the service and the csr told me that he will update my service if I still keep aol account. Now I saw my bankstatement and I see the charged but they refuse to return the money to my account.

Received call from Allied Credit Services. Spoke with a woman from another country. Hard to understand. Indicated that I had outstanding bill from AOL. I shared that I had paid my bill in full and that I did not owe anymore money,. She insisted I did. I informed her that I would be calling the A.G.'s office in my state to report this phone call because I did not owe AOL any money. Called AOL to find out what was going on. Had to wait 28 minutes for a live voice. Talked to another person from a foreign country. He insisted that I owed $20.82.

I had all the letters, money orders, and correspondence in front of me and read it to him. He insisted that I owed them money. Asked for a letter or a written confirmation that I owed money. he ignored my requests for this and kept asking for me to pay by credit card or check. I informed him that I pay cash for all my bills and needed one to confirm that I still owed money. he then agreed to waive the bill and to send me a letter in the mail stating that the bill had been waived within 10 business days. He would not hang up and kept asking me if I wanted to re-activate my account or if I had any concerns/needs with the service.

I finally told him that I was hanging up and that I was contacting the A.G.'s office in my state. I did receive a letter from AOL a few weeks ago informing me that I had been a good cutomer and that they wanted me to re-activate my account. I threw it away.

I am being charged $29.95 per month for AOL software that I do not have in this computer and never did. I want the charge to my credit card stopped immediately. I want the monies that have been charged to my credit card refunded. If I do not hear from you I will contact my Attorneys

I do not know what the economic damage that has resulted because I do not know when you started making the charges. Pleas help me.

My story is similar to many others who have had run ins with AOL. We had an AOL account about three years ago that we cancelled when we switched to Roadrunner cable internet service. This past week we have been receiving phone calls from AOL telling us they are upgrading our service to broadband. We don't have AOL service. We then started to receive calls telling us that we are overdue for a payment and if we don't give them money immediately they are going to turn us in to a collection agency.

I contacted our old bank, and found out that our old bank account that we haven't used in so long; has been charged $30.90/month for AOL service from April 2006 until the present, and that AOL had drained what little money had been left sitting in our account. My husband has filed a dispute with our bank, but our bank claims that they have no phone number to contact AOL and it is going to take time to investigate, since AOL isn't cooperating.

I myself have had difficulty contacting AOL. I have been hung up on, left sitting on hold forever, abused by representatives, redirected to departments only to have the line go dead, and so on. I have seemingly hit a brick wall. I don't know what to do to get our money back, and keep these jerks from taking unauthorized payments out of our account in the future.

i ordered phone svc thru sbc and declined internet since phone is for disabled brother without a computer, and when bill came, aol was added onto the bill for aol/broadband @29.99 and when inquired to sbc, sbc sent me to aol and aol said i had to call from my brothers phone even though it is my name and i asked why aol can randomly add service even though it was declined and she said someone would have to give the information in order to be added on. i now have to either fax a request to cancel something neither i nor my brother ordered, or call aol from my brother's phone directly and he is across town.

how does aol have access to add services not ordered to peoples phones? the phone # in question is 713-***-****.

thank you

We have had Cable modem/DSL connection to access the internet via AOL since 01/2002 Just recently we noticed that we were being charged for dial up service above and beyond the normal unlimited usage for broadband/Cable/DSL connection This was not authorized by us and the only fees that were were $9.95 per month no contract or commitment required We were only required to discontinue servive prior to the start of the next billing cycle There has never been and connection to a land line phone as AOL states.Proof is available to verify our Cable and or DSL service during the dispute time frame

On 02/23/05, AOL debited my checking account $99.99 for Auto Advantage Service. I did not request the service nor was I aware that they were going to debit my account. I called them the same day at 7:25 pm and requested them to put my money back into my account and to cancel my service because I did not appreciate them debiting my account without my authorization or knowledge of them doing such a thing. The rep. that spoke with said that they would cancel my service and that the money should be back in my account within 5 to 10 business days. They gave me Confirmation #HA801530223.

On 03/01/05, they credited my account $91.65. I asked why didn't they credit the entire amount back and a rep. by the name of Brenda said the difference of $8.34 was for the services that was rendered before I cancelled my account. She said that I would not be billed anymore because my acount was cancelled.

On 03/28/05, AOL debited my account $23.90 for the monthly fee and $3.95 for their answering service. I called them at 1-888-***-**** and asked them why did they charge me when I requested on 2/23/05 for them to cancel my services. A rep. who is named Eric claimed AOL did not have any record of my services being cancelled. He said that he would cancel the services that day but there was nothing that he could do about the bill. He even tried to offer me another AOL service plan, which was very annoying after all that they have put me through. I rejected the offer and told him to cancel my account. I called AOL back and spoke with Francis and told him that I had found the confirmation number HA801530223. He told me that I would have to call Customer Dispute at 1-877-***-****. I did not call them because I'm tired of getting the runaround with AOL.

I receieved my credit card bill with a $24.95 charge for AOL Broadband on 3/1/05. The charge was from 1/31/05. I called AOL and informed them that I have never had AOL in my life. They told me that the credit card was used to make a store purchase on 12/10/04 and the in store promotion entered my information to start AOL. Normally there is supposed to be verification from the customer to supply the information. I went and investigated all my transactions from Novemeber and December on my credit card.......there does not appear one charge from any sort of natinal retailer. AOL is not able to tell me the supposed retailers name. They just keep giving me the run around. They said they would credit my account, but I would like get to the root of the problem and make sure it does not happen again. I believe AOL somehow started service with my credit card information without my knowledge and started to bill me. Please help me.

To whom it may concern,

I read Complaints about the auto advantage, and I also signed up for Auto advantage and i was promised 3 months for $1 dollar I never received anything. 3 months later i got another bill for $90.00 dollars then i called and complained about it and they promised me so many things like free Oil changes and so much other things and I never received anything. I totally forgot about auto advantage till the other day I had car trouble and I was stranded and I tried contacting auto advantage and no luck. I got online and I am not even sure if it even exists.

Well first of all they told me 3 months for $ 1 dollar and i never recived any type of letters over the mail. Then one day i see a bill for about $90.00 Dollars on my Debit card. During that time i was a High School Student working Part-time at minimum wage thats a big amout of money for me and i didnt even get a single thing from them i had to refer to a small budget for a cuple weeks, I was not able to go out or any kind of lunch food for school.

I was checking my checking account and noticed that AOL billed me for something called AOL Auto Advantage for 89.99 and never even heard of it before. I am appauled that this would happen. I demanded that they put that money back and they said it would take 15 to 20 days. That is unacceptable because I NEED THAT MONEY and it is going to make all my other check bounce.

I don't know what to do!!! I am so ticked!!!

I recieved a call from my bank stating that a debit was taken out for 89.99. I asked the bank clerk what company recieved the debit. She told me Aol Auto Advantage. I called the company and asked them why money was taken from my account. The person I talked to said that they took it out for my membership to the company and that I would recieve many good deals. I told her politely over and over again that I did not want the membership.

I told her that I never authorized the company to take money out of my account and I wanted them to refund my and put the money back in my account. I explained to her that the debit that was taken out of my account made my account over draft. She told me that she could refund my only 74.99 out of the total 89.99. I told her that since I never authorized that company to recieve money from my account. I told her that my bank was going to take care of the issue for me. I was very unhappy with this company. I was very unhappy with aol. If Aol is going to let their partnering companies use their member's account information I do not want to be any part of Aol and I will advise everyone I know of the situation so it will not happen to them.

I called around June 30 about the auto advantage program. I have never used this program so I asked him could he cancel the billing so that I would not be charged for it any more. Mr. Derrick said it would not be a problem and that they would refund me the money and it would take about ten busness days to go back to my account. So how it did not go through because they are still billing me and it is making my account to a negative and I'm being charge NSF charges and I really don't think that is right because I called and canceled it, but they did not stop it so I really need some one to look in to this matter.

Thank You

Ms. Catherine

I have been billed for the Aol Auto Advantage numerous times and I have cancelled several times but I keep getting billed. What can be done about this automatic billing?

I have been billed for this thing called aol auto advantage for two and half years for which I have never authorized. The number I was given by aol has been disconnected. I understand from your website that others have had same problem. I am on disability and hardly can absorb the cost for this obvious scam for which I have been billed.

Aol offered a 90 day free trial of aol auto advantage at which time you could cancel or keep the coverage for 9.00 dollars per month, I tried the service and every time I called for assistance roadside I was told my account was not valid, so I cancelled since I couldn't use it anyway. Only the problem was they keep billing my account and I have cancelled five months with no results.

This one mistake has caused me to have severe overdrawn accounts at my bank and is continuing to do so, please be wiser than I was don't try anything for free it never works like they say it does. This one venture has cost me hundreds of dollars and is ongoing as of yet.

The guy calls me on the phone and says for $1.00 I got to take advantage of there offers for three months worth so I was already searching for some type of roadside service and etc. So, I said sure. They were suppose to send me my information and where I was suppose to be able to use....But, it never came and they never charged me the $1.00. So, I let it go.

Three months later they charged me for $90 some dollars for a years worth of service. I called them up. She apologized all over the place and said that my information would be mailed out immediately!!!! So, It never came and now it has been 5 months and I think my ninety dollars is gone. I will not ever take another phone call from anything like this again. When I signed up for aolvoicemail I had no problem so I think that this AOL ADVANTAGE WAS A SCAM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I tried to cancel my account with aol. First they gave me the run around on that and kept giving me free months. Next I sent them a letter which they replied to and said they honored my request on 3/10/244 and if they didn't hear from me by the 11th then everything was canceled but it wasn't. Three days later I was doubled billed for something called autoadvantage and travelers advantage. They charge my account for these every week. Every week it is something different either, credit alert, auto advantage, etc.

I have lost over $400 in NSF and other fees that they have taken out of my account from AOL. They keep debiting my account. They will debit my account twice in a day every other day for weeks. This has cause me a great strain due to that was my money to pay my rent. I had to go and run to my account at one in the morning to take out what is left in my account from my direct deposit.

i was charged 89.99 for aol travelers advantage and 89.99 for aol auto advantage that i didnt even know existed! i talked to several people but no one could help me. i want my money back and also any fees incurred due to their error

i got stuck with the aol auto advantage club card. every time i go to cancell they blow me off. i just called them at the begining of the week to cancell it before i got charged and he wouldn't cancell it. he man ignored me and said he was sending the free stuff i never got. i asked him when i was going to charged for this he said in april. he lied to me it was taken out of my bank account on the 25th.(after i talked to him) i upset about i don't want the card never did i just want it cancelled like i been tring to do for 3 months. i never authorized that they could use my bank account number to take out there fees.

using my bank account number with out authorization is very discomforting. my budget is limited and having them take money from my account with out notice messes with my living expences. my husband is in the military and our budget is fixed. 9.00 is gas money for a week for us.

For something last year (2003), we had been charged for things which we did not want by AOL, including AOL Netmarket (over $ 150), TWX*AOLFORBROADBAND, etc. In December we signed with another internet service and on about January 15,2004 I mailed AOL a letter requesting to be discontinued from their services. Previously I had called 2-3 times and also emailed AOL complaining about un- expected charges, especially NET Market. When I was charged for the regular AOL internet plus movie/video service in February, I wrote them another email and called and spoke with a lady who said that my money would partially refunded.

At that time I asked to cancel any future charges, and I understood things, I would not be charged. Yet, in the first week of March, although the February charge had been refunded, I was charged $ 24.95 for TWX*AOLFORBROADBAND as well as AOL Auto Advantage for $9.95. No matter what you do it seems, somehow you get charged. Whatever the AOL rationalizations about cancellation procedure, small print legalese, etc., this seems outright dishonest. They simply have got my bank account number and charge me whenever they like. I have already written a letter of formal complaint to my Bank in Concordia, Missouri. But I am very distraught and the AOL "withdrawals" has also cost us way over $ 100.00 in "Insufficient Funds" charges, since in several cases they were made when we were already somewhat overdrawn.

All in all it has been something of a nightmare, and it seems impossible either by letter or phone to get them to stop or reimburse the unauthorized withdrawals. Can you all help ? We are hurting in Missouri.

I am being charged for aol advantage and simple escapes when I have not evan registered with these companies and there is no way to get a hold of either of these companies.

aol offered me the trial offer of auto advantage. i was billed $1 and never received the roadside kit. I cancelled the service on the phone and aol auto advantage agent said it was cancelled (this was on Dec. 8th). Today i see they took 90 bucks out of my account, thus overdrafting it, costing me and additional 30 bucks in overdraft fees. No one at aol would/could help me, nor am I able to contact aol auto advantage numbers (I have 3 of them and they are not open at this time.) I feel aol and the auto advantage is a big fraud and something needs to be done.

i am out 120 bucks. I called bank and cancelled debit card number and got a new one so no more withdrawals can be made, however i am livid and would like to know how these folks get away with it. I filed a fraud claim with bank of america and they will look into it for me monday....meanwhile i am overdrafted, stressed, and seriously disturbed about aol and its partnerships with shady companies.

i signed up for aol internet service. about a month later i was debited 9.00 via my bankcard by auto advantage i called to cancel and to get a refund..no refund and it keeps happening i have been debited several times and also by another company from aol that debits my account 8.oo a month again i call aol, no credit, no refund no cancelation.. i never signed up for any of these services never gave permission to anyone other than aol to debit the 23.50 a month for internet service

these charges have more than a few times made me get nsf from my bank for not having enough in my account when aol / auto advantage and the other aol company tried to debit it. i live pay check to pay check and my balance is always very low these 9.00 and 8.00 charges have caused me about 300.00 in nsf check charges only!! then because my bank charges me those fee's i fall behind because i wasnt aware of a 9.00 and 8.00 charge coming out! that wound up costing me over 300.00 that was caused by aol underhanding selling and sharing private information with other companys!!
