AOL - Hard to Cancel

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

It's been said that canceling AOL is harder than eradicating the common cold. It seems that AOL wants to be your Internet-service-for-life.

I found out in December of 2011 that AOL was taking funds from my account. I cancelled my service over 8 years ago. So I called many times to tell them this was cancelled. I got no where! Many times I was told they would have a manager call me! They never called. Today is February 7 and I just received a bill for December and January because I had my bank block them. What can I do? I have been trying to get info on AOL CEO Tim. I got a contact number, pressed 0 and the operator put me in his V/M. Fingers crossed.

Every month my account has been charge $21.85 for service I'm not receiving from you. I spoke to a representative when this happen before and now for the last 5 months. It's started again and I am tired of my money being taken. Please stop it and refund my money. I'm not going to continue to pay for something I'm not using. My account was closed years ago, and this is truly unforgivable.

They went in my checking. They took money 2 or 3 times. I had to close my account out. I had my check for a long time. I went to a different bank. AOL is a sorry bunch of losers. I want them off my PC, never to bother me again

I wrote a complaint last week about this situation which just got worse. AOL stated that they would waive a fee that they sent me, a bill for a service I never signed up for in the first place. If only, I signed up to get a service from them. This service could be cancelled at any time. I finally gave in as we had been on the phone for an hour going back and forth and finally speaking with a manager. I "cancelled" that service immediately on the internet. I checked my credit card activity a few days later and they charged the fee that they had sent on the bill. This company is a total fraud and I would like to know what can be done about it. How do they get away with it?

I cancelled AOL fee-for-service account in April 2011, and changed number of the credit card account they were automatically billing. 3 months later, I got a collections letter for 3 months of service after the cancellation. We are still getting collection calls and letters.

I cancelled my AOL internet account in 2010 online. While looking closely at my recent bank statement, I noticed a card withdrawal from AOL. I went back and looked at earlier statements and AOL had submitted withdrawals without cancelling. I tried to cancel again online and again it stated billing had been cancelled. Reading further, it stated I was still being charged the same amount for and active service.

I continued to cancel this and would rotate screens until I was back at the same place over and over. I called an AOL phone assistance number and after giving account verification, a message of "We're sorry but your call can not be completed. Please try again later." I finally reached another customer service rep with a barely understandable foreign accent and vented my frustration. He said they had no record of me cancelling before so he couldn't refund anything but said he would cancel immediately.

I received a bill for a service I never asked for and this "first" bill was an outstanding balance for 4 months of email service of which I had never received a bill. My mom had cancelled my AOL email address but somehow they get my current home address and send me a bill for services I never agreed to or signed a contract for. The only way I could get the entire fee waived was to sign up for another AOL service where the first month would be "free" and I could call and cancel at any time. This was after an hour of discussing this with an agent and then her "manager."

Now, I have been attempting to "easily cancel it online," but every time I have tried, it's sending me back to the sign in page. There has to be something illegal about what they do and there should be some consequences. What kind of a threat would they take seriously? I have never had such a frustrating experience for a service I asked for much less a service I never asked for in the first place. This company is horrible.

I had been with AOL for 10 years and decided to upgrade to AOL broadband and phone package at 13 per month (first month free). After 8 days I called AOL and told them to cancel my contract as the service was very bad. They said I was over my cooling off period and I could not cancel. The cooling off period was 10 days. I argued and finally they said they would cancel the contract. This all happened 3 weeks before Christmas 2011. On January 4 this year they went into my current account and took $230. I called AOL and was put through to their office in India. They said I will not be getting my money back as it was over the cooling off period. I had a heated argument with them. I am still fighting to get this money back and I will not give up. All I can say to anyone who want broadband: don't give your bank details to AOL, you will regret it.

For the last 5 years, I thought I had overdraft protection with my bank. It just so happened that I had AOL at the same time. I thought I was paying about $30.00 a month for protection, but instead, I've been paying AOL for service that I'm not even getting. When I first got my computer, AOL came with my computer. I decided I did not want to continue with them and chose another company for my Internet. All this time AOL has continued to bill me for services. I have tried all morning to get this straightened out. My money is being collected by Chase Bank, but they say they have no account for me. I want my money back! This is ridiculous. For years, AOL has been getting money from me and I don't even use them.

I cancelled my AOL account on 9/11. I was given a confirmation number of the cancellation. I was mailed a letter of confirmation. They continued to bill my credit card the next month, stating that I had a month to pay at the end. We paid it and got another confirmation, and now I am receiving a past due notice and a collections notice.

Last month I called to cancel my monthly payment to AOL. Got a confirmation number, etc. Another charge was made this month and this time more $ was taken. Another call and another promise to stop charging me was made. Another confirmation number was given and I had to repeatedly say I wanted to keep my email account. I have paid enough over the last 15 years to AOL that they should give me a big thank you for being too lazy til now to stop this bleeding.

In November 17, 2006, I canceled AOL. (I have confirmation number and letter.) I called three more times at least. I tried to cancel thru my bank, but it continued because the bank said they had my routing number.

Last week, they told me to send a copy of my confirmation letter, which I did, but I have not heard a word from them. They owe me over $933.00 and I will go to small claims court if I have to just to make a point to this company.

Banking online is wonderful because it is so convenient, but never give out your routing number. Don't forget to check your statement each month

I just found out 2 weeks ago that AOL has been billing me for 6 years $45 a month for hi-speed internet that I didn't get and couldn't get. When I did, I paid for it. I sold the place in 2008 and had the hi-speed disconnected. I have pictures of the Comcast screen an employee there sent me showing my info. The rep said AOL hasn't paid them anything. I have a letter from Time Warner who they were partners with at the time. It says that internet service was disconnected in early 2006 when they left the area. I have proof I made payments. Time Warner and Comcast have been more helpful than AOL. I've talked to over 50 employees and gotten 50 different excuses. I've called and left messages for executives and emailed over 40 executives. This was after obtaining lists to be able to do it. I'm getting nowhere.

I've been trying to cancel my AOL internet account for a week and all I get is the run around. I was trying to cancel it online but it says, it is unavailable and it is impossible to cancel it there. There is no one to talk to, it's just a machine.

I canceled my account with AOL about 10 years and just recently, they have been sending me a bill for a past due amount. There is no past due amount. This seems like a scam to me and something should be done about this practice.

After repeated attempts to cancel the account, I was told it was cancelled. Two months later, I received mail that stated we had an unpaid bill and that our credit would suffer. It was full of threats and intimidation. They should lose their business license.

I cancelled my service with AOL on May 4, 2011. They have continued to bill me every month $25.90 on my visa card. My last payment was suppose to be for April because the next billing cycle had not gone through for May. When I called them June 22, 2011 they said I had to pay one more month because that it was I owed them (some bogus back pay). They have taken $25.90 out of my credit card every month and every month I pay off my crdit card so there was no back charges they had not been paid.

I've tried to cancel AOL for a long time. I signed in February 2009. I've been trying to stop the $4.99 payment since 2010, to no avail! Please help!

AOL charged me for over 4 years for service they didn't provide. I received DSL from Verizon in 3/07. I didn't know that if Verizon is the main carrier, you don't have to pay AOL. I assumed the monthly fee was for my email address until 1/11. I called them again. I wanted to be reimbursed of course! I left messages and emails. I emailed the Legal Department. A Mr. ** called, saying he had to get data. After playing phone tag, he said and he did nothing.

I saw a message on my computer to call AOL about billing. I called. I'm past due? but I canceled? I talked to Megan ** (not her name, I'm certain). She said, "No problem, I understand. I will take care of this." Also, I received a letter saying I'm past due. Really? Can AOL really not know what's going on in this company? They don't want to know. They rely on customers' lack of knowledge. And they don't volunteer any info that will benefit or save customers' money.

This happened to me, because "I didn't know when you get DSL from Verizon, AOL shouldn't charge." I assumed monthly charges was for my email address. AOL knew when I called and cancel. In January, the lady practically laughed at me! AOL is hinting that I didn't call and cancel. I Like to see them prove otherwise. I had Verizon which can and will confirm this.

Any company that has your credit card number can charge a monthly fee. Call and constantly ask questions. Also, print and keep copies of your monthly statements. My monthly statements are the reason I'm challenging AOL. I can provide proof.

I have tried to cancel my AOL account for over 5 years. I set it up years ago and never used it. I don't even own a computer anymore. The email address on this complaint is my sister-in-law. She has a computer. I have called for years and have had no luck canceling this account that we never used. You can reach me through my sister-in-law or call me on my home phone above. I have had constant economic damage because I have to write a check for a service that I do not use and do not plan on using in the future. This is so emotionally draining trying to get this resolved. I feel that it is almost impossible to cancel this account.

I closed my AOL account which was not an easy task. The company makes it extremely difficult to do. I filed all the necessary paperwork. I did that because someone else was using my email which I explained to AOL. My AOL email was ***@***.com. AOL didn't care at all no matter which country I talked to. They were completely worthless so I closed my account which I said was difficult and time consuming. I would never deal with AOL again on any basis. Now I need help! My "contacts" and I continue to be bombarded by someone sending this email and AOL doing nothing about it. I was not aware this person had been allowed access to my email and contacts and AOL would do nothing about my complaint.

I asked to cancel this account and AOL will not cancel this account. I don't care if its free. I do not want to be associated with AOL. It's creepy that they won't let a person cancel their membership. I have called. I have written a letter. I would like for *** to be completely erased, dissolved and removed.

I'm mailing my final AOL payment to the address their customer service gave me and I'm getting the heck out of AOL!. I tried to cancel our AOL subscription because it's a waste of money! We were members for 8 years and I can count on 1 hand the times I actually needed to call someone. I made 10 calls trying to upgrade the AOL software on Vista. Every time I tried to download, it shut my computer down.

I figured we can save $150 a year to pay off a bill or something. I spoke to a lady who did everything she could to keep me from closing my account. The Visa card they were billing to is no longer valid and I refuse to give them a new debit or credit card number! I asked for a mailing address to send a money order. Don't send them a check, they will try to use it to gain access to your account to keep taking out payments. She said if I mailed in the payment, I would have to pay back balance of 2 months. She tried her best to get a credit card number from me and even offered to forgive the balance if I just kept their service.

I don't trust them! These jokers will be out of the email business if they keep this up! I'm contacting the Federal Trade Commission to register a complaint! I think every AOL victim should do the same.

Several months ago, I changed internet service to Comcast. I would like to get AOL free service off my screen. They use my old email address **. The cancellation process is almost impossible. Then, a flag pops up saying try back in 24 hours. Friends have been receiving emails from my AOL number that I never sent. I have been unable to find a mailing address. And the phone numbers that I have say that the phone service is not available to customers with free accounts. Any help that you can give would be appreciated.

I, like so many others out there, have been getting robbed by AOL for years. I have cancelled numerous times with them (never spoken with a real person, by the way) and I continue to get charged $25.90 every month on my debit card. I have never even had service with them, only a trial like 8-9 years ago! I have contacted my local news station and my state Attorney General to get something done. The way I figure it, AOL owes me close to $2,400 in back charges! If you have the same problems, contact your state Attorney General today!

I have been a member for 14 years. I decided to cancel 5 months ago. I still get bills. They have not cancelled the account. As of today, it still works.

I canceled my AOL account in August 2007. I am continuously being charged for this canceled account. Since I no longer use checks, I don't "balance" my checking account like I used to. This $25.90 comes out of my account inconspicuously. I want my money back! Because one of my business check did not go through, I noticed rejected payment to my bank account. Also, I will be billed NSF fee all because AOL took money out of my account without authorization.

I canceled service as of 6-14-2008. I kept on getting billed on my Barclaycard until 7-22-10 for free service. Cost is $99.80.

My husband noticed a recurring charge on our AmEx bill and brought it to my attention. It was an AOL charge for $25.90. I called the 800 number listed and was told that our account was canceled in January of 2006. When I explained we were still being billed, the AOL representative asked for the credit card number being billed and then told me they had no record of that card in their system and no account associated with it. She could not provide me with a cancellation number when asked. When I first begin my query, I was told they had no account associated with either my or my husband's name even though they had been billing us for 5 1/2 years. It was only after I attempted using an old area code with our phone number that I was able to get any information from them at all. Previous attempts giving our screen name, full names, credit card number, billing zip code and current phone numbers got me nowhere!

When I lived with my daughter's I started AOL for internet,I tryed to cancell when I moved out but could not remember all info they asked and would not close my account I had quit using the service and had to change credit card info to stop charges, they then took my daughter to collections I have yet been able to stop all this, they still refuse to help me or my daughter and it is 4 years later and AOL is ruining our credit, they are so horrible ,we cant solve this unfair charges

cancelled account with aol on 8-25-09 was done on-line, pop up appeared and confirmed account would be cancelled on next billing date, no confirmation number given. checking my bank account closely this month and a charge for 11.99 from aol is there. have been charged since 8/25/09 to today 5/28/10 for a cancelled account. called number above to get a reason entered my user name and info into automated systemn was told no account existed for my user name. finally got a person on phone Debbie she came back and told me she found my account and it was still active never been cancelled and without a cancellation # nothing could be done. told her to check usage of this account and she confirmed it had never been used but they charged by membership not usage. according to their on systemn my account did not exist. gave me a cancellation number now and told me i would not be charged in the future. need help getting my money back

March 2009, I had high speed internet service installed by my local phone company and emailed AOL to cancel my dial up service. They still billed me so I called and ask to cancel my service. Over the months, they continued to bill my credit card account for $23.31 each month. In Feb 2010, I told my credit card company to stop paying them. They continued to charge me $23.31 a month, but could not collect so they began to run a past account on me.

I called them and each time was told they would credit my account for $41.62 but would need to give them my personal financial information so they could collect the balance. I told them I would not give my information but if they gave me an address I would send a money order for $5 to them to settle this and I would not ask for a refund of all the money they took from my charge account. They refused and continued to harass me and threatened my credit and to turn this over to a collection agency. I do not owe them anything they actually over billed me. I want my account zeroed and to be left alone.

I have an excellent credit score and have never missed any payments on anything. They are threatening my credit. I have health problems including heart problems I do not need this pressure. They have already taken over $230 they were not entitled to. Even though I live on a fixed income, I was willing to forget it just to resolve this but they refused to do anything but asked for my personal financial information.

I cancelled my AOL account on March 21st, 2010. My billing isn't until the 5th of each month, however, I noticed in my account that AOL had sent a payment request around the 19th of March. So even though I had cancelled the account, the bank account maintains a pending payment status. So I can see where it seems like they are billing after you requested but it seems they are practicing dishonesty by sending in a payment request weeks in advance of the true billing date. A 11.95 debit was carried out on my account. After reading how difficult it is to get the reimbursement, I am undecided if I want to pursue the issue with the time and energy it will require.

In December 2009, I called and canceled my AOL on March 24, 2010. I was charged $103.56. I never received any mail where they were going to charge me. They just went into my account and took my money. I have not used this e-mail since November 2009. I used it on March 28, 2010 to close this account with AOL once again since their office was closed. Money is too hard to come by for them to do people like that. Something has to be done about companies that take advantage of people who are trying to make it the best they can getting unemployment like me. When they took this money out of my unemployment account, this made me have to put food back at the grocery store today, because that money is gone. Not to mention, I have no gas money to go to my part time job.

A couple months after cancelling a trial of AOL Internet service, my account was somehow reactivated and I was charged monthly for and email address and Internet service that I never used for three years. When I called, the rep looked at my activity and confirmed that I did not use their service during this time frame and yet, all he could do was credit my account for a couple months worth of payments.

I cancelled AOL in October of 2009. Prior to that, I had tried to download 9.5 through the help of AOL Technical Department. They had told me to sign in under another name so I could access my 9.5. I did, but long story short, 0.5 tried more than 5 times to get it to work and would not down load. So I cancelled my AOL. Now because of the new screen name, they are trying to collect a pass bill. By the way, I did have AOL for over 9 years. Also, when they looked at the second screen name, there was no any access to that account. Also, billing for the account was only $11.95 and they now want over $110.00 for 3 months. Thank you and I hope you can help, or at least let this one out like all the others canceling AOL accounts.

I called on behalf of 85-year old father in law to cancel account. After waiting 25 minutes to speak to a rep, I was told to call AOL Canada. I called AOL Canada and after waiting 20 minutes, I was told to call AOL United States. After waiting 25 minutes, I was cut off and had to start all over again. After waiting another 20 minutes (20-minute waits are honest and accurate), he/we provided AOL with credit card numbers and pertinent information. AOL insisted they speak with my 83-year old mother-in-law. I advised AOL that it would be impossible for her to call as the whole process of getting to a living, breathing customer rep would be too confusing and exhausting.

I was told that nothing could be done. I asked to speak to a supervisor and after going over the whole process including AOL speaking to my father-in-law (who by the way, credit card is under his SS number), was told nothing could be done. I asked for his supervisor and said we could go no further. AOL dismissed my request and disconnected. There has been no activity on this AOL account for well over a year (AOL records will show this). We did not want any reimbursement, we just wanted to simply cancel and move on. Shame on AOL.

AOL is famous for the difficulty it gives customers trying to cancel service. We were with them since 1995 and tried canceling online on January 2009 before our billing date. We filled out their form and submitted it. We were still charged our yearly fee of $240.00 for all of 2009. They are nearly impossible to get through to over the phone, but we were able to some time in July 2009. We wanted to once again try to make sure we canceled the account. Apparently, we did because we just called to make sure and they told us it was closed last July, so we better not be charged again. The billing date is in 2 days so we'll find out.

I called our bank to see if I could block any charges. I could for $25.00 using a stop payment procedure, which would last for 4 months, or I could wait and see if AOL tried anything. If they did, I was told the problem could go to a dispute mediation process taking up to 10 days. I'm choosing to go this route, to let the bank duke it out for me. I've printed out a billing page under "edit my payment" which shows I can't edit anything because I only have a free membership. I figure this is my proof I have no paid account.

I was trying to find a way to confirm the account is closed, I think this does show that it is. Just wanted to let others know my information and that they are still messing around with people trying to cancel and still charging them for whatever reason. I've read in other places that as of December 09 and even January 2010, people are still having trouble with AOL doing this. Also, for those having trouble getting a live person, use this number 1-888-265-8008.

My husband signed up for the one month free trial of AOL about two and a half years ago. When he tried to cancel the service he had forgotten his password and security question and was not able to reach anyone to cancel the service. He has been paying nearly $40.00 a month for a service he could not use or get rid of. About 6 months ago his credit card was turned off and he got a new one. Since AOL could not charge him any more, they sent a notice saying that the service would be canceled. My husband was getting ready to Deploy to Iraq at the time and was not able to follow up on it. AOL continued to charge the "canceled" account for four months.

By the time I received the next notice, the bill was $103.60 and my husband was in Iraq. Naturally, I called to take care of the account. They had no problem releasing the account information to me when I called to make the payment. When the payment finally went through, fifteen days later, it caused my account to go negative because I had forgotten about it by this time. My account received six overdraft charges leaving my balance at about negative $260.00. When I called the customer service department again to find out why the payment took so long to process and if they could reimburse me in any way,, they said that they could do nothing for me because I was not on the account and they could not violate my husband's privacy. My husband cannot contact them directly because he is still in Iraq. Meanwhile, my account is negative $250.00and they will not do anything to appease my situation. They had no problem taking the money, but when I called to make a complaint, they would not help.

I canceled my AOL acct. and they have turned my acct. over to Allied Interstate Collection Company. They call about every day and now I have just received a letter from Allied. The amount is $23.98. I do not owe this and I tried to explain that to their rep. but I think he was from India and he just keep saying if you don't pay they will take you to court. They are now harrassing me. Please tell me what I can do about this. This is causing me emotional distress.

I closed my account with AOL all accounts more then 5 years ago. They have been charging me $5.95 a month for at least that long, for a voice perium service. They said they see where it was closed but not the dial up voice land perieum service. This service was a part of the same account closed. This account has been in active in fact I have not had a computed in my home for over 4 years.

I and others in my former office have had free email accounts for years. This week service was terminated by AOL without notice. These accounts are used for a variety of purposes and are registered with vendors for biull paying etc. None if us knows the original security questions and AOL refuses to provide any means for us to reactivate the accounts. Several of us have placed calls and wind up with completely unhelpful agents in the Phillipines.

I have tried to cancel my service since July 2008 when I went with wildblue satelite. In July 2008 I called the 800# and thought I had cancelled service thru the automated line, however I did not discover until Feb 2009 that my service had not been cancelled and I had been billed monthly on my credit card. I realized that this may be my fault because I had not looked closely at my billing so I tried again in Mar 2009. The number is an automated line, it will not put you thru to a live person, the message I got on the phone was that my service would cancel on the 7th.

Again I was billed on my credit card,I called again same message, service had been canceled on the 7th, I did this five consecutive months. April 17,2009, May 11,2009, June 17,2009, July 7,2009, each time I got the message that my service had been canceled as of the 7th. (Feel free to call the number, I tried again tonight, Oct 23, 2009 and got the same message )Still I was being billed. I could not for whatever reason seem to cancel the service.

In July my credit card that they had on file expired, so I thought ok I will just eat these charges, its not worth the hassel, they won't be able to charge anymore on my credit card since it had expired. Boy, was I wrong they charged me again.By that time I had been paying them for over a year for service I did not have. I called the company my Credit card was with and explained to them what was going on and filed a dispute on the charges. To be fair I asked them to dispute the last four months of charges because I had written down on my calender when I called and I was sure of these dates. My credit card company credited me for four months.

On Oct.9, 2009 I received a delinquency letter that I owed them $47.96 and if I did not submit within 10 days they would send to collection agency. Which I did not send, by this time I'm thinking what the heck does it take to cancel service with this company. I then received a nasty phone call from aol collector, I advised them of my efforts to cancel and he was adament I was going to pay this. I advised him I was not going to pay something I did not owe and hung up, since he was being so nasty to me.

I then called my credit card company and advised them no charges were to be put on my credit card from AOL. My credit card company representative recommended I cancel my current card that the charges have been put on since AOL had my card number,so that no further charges can be made.

I received another collection call today, Oct, 23, 2009 from AOL stating that this was my last chance to pay this bill before being turned over for collection. I again went thru the whole thing and he tells me that my account has never been cancelled that it had only been suspended for nonpayment due to me changing the method of payment. (This was the 4 months that the credit card company disputed for me) and charged it back to AOL. I could not believe it when he said my account was only suspended and when it was paid I could use AOL again. I advised him I had not used AOL for over a year, I had no intentions of ever using AOL again. He then said he would offer me a 50% reduction on my past due bill if I would pay it now (with a credit card) I again advised him I did not owe this and was not going to pay and was definetly not giving my credit card number to him.

My account is still not cancelled per Aol representative , only suspended, it can not be cancelled until my outstanding bill is paid then they could re-activate. I don't think this representative heard a word I said and AOL has no intentions of canceling my service. So I am assuming that if I had agreed to pay and done so with a credit card over the phone my charges would have started up again.

I have a very good credit history and I would hate for $47.96 to cause me problems in the future but these charges would continue forever if I had paid. Something needs to be done, I have never experienced anything like this before, however I have read many reports over the internet about the same problem. Hopefully if enough people send in complaints something will be done.

I called to cancel my AOL service and the person at AOL would not let me do it until I got very rude and finally had to hang up on him. He just wouldn't quit trying to convince me to stay with AOL. I was told that I would have internet coverage for 5 days until the Mac code was sent to me allowing me to switch to BT internet. But the next day my internet service was cut off. After a lot of aggravation I finally got back online. Something needs to be done about the way AOL treats its customers.

Beginning in 2005 I have tried numerous times to cancel an AOL account for which I was being billed through my checking account. I made phone calls, wrote letters, and sent a fax. Each time I tried to stop the charges I was put on hold, transferred told my account did not exist and multiple other stalling techniques. I have not used the account since about June 2000. Today I finally reached an account representative on the telephone who agreed to cancel the billing. He agreed that the account did show my attempt at least once (in 2007) to end the account, but could not explain why it continued. When I asked for a refund, I was told I could only have a 3 month refund. I think I should receive a refund for at least the total paid from 2007 to present, but was told that was impossible.

I had canceled aol through e-mail and phone and they are still billing. they have actually billed me twice in August. It it so frustrating to not get them to cancel.

I called and cancelled my account, they said fine effective that day, over a year ago,a year later, my account was overdrawn and I couldn't figure out why, then I got a billing notice from them! They had been charging me the whole time!

I have cancelled my account with AOL on February 15, 2009. They continued to take money out of my account. I have called the company several times. Their voicemail is conveniently set up to "not work, I do not understand your request" when you request to cancel or question your bill. When I called back and said I wanted to upgrade my service or ask about a new account,it miraculously found my account information. I have sent letters and nothing. I finalled called my credit card company and had them cancel the card and issue a new number. I am also faxing my cancellation form, again. I am quite sure reading about all of the credit collection efforts on the part of AOL that they will soon be pursuing me to get more money. I really think the president needs to step in and shut this company down, because obviously AOL could care less about any rulings the court has.

So today I received an overdue payment notification 103.60 from AOL. The payment was overdue 130 days claims AOL, yet the also claim the account hadn't been used since February of 2008. And that they had tried to notify me via the account's email address. We canceled the account, yet they claim we didn't. I've done some research and found that Im not the only one to have this problem. What I find odd is, if the account hadn't been used since early last year, and we certainly hadn't made any payment's since then, at least to my knowledge. And if payment's had been made, since my "successful attempt" at cancellation, then AOL has alot to deal with from me.

I had set up my boyfriend an AOL account. A few years later (last year)I tried to cancel it because we got broadband and they wouldn't let me because I wasn't him. Well not only did he not have the time to mess with it , he didn't know any of the information they kept asking. I did but he was working 200 miles away from me. Anyway so we decided to ride it out until the credit card expired.

A month before it expired I got online and switched from a paying account to a free account. Yet after it expired they still kept billing us and telling us to update our account information. So again we both called and canceled it. For three months they kept billing us $44.00. Yesterday they billed us $59.80. I called today to try to pay the bill off to keep his credit good. Not only did they tell me it was $68.00 but the guy said the account was still active. I explained to him it should not be and all we been through. Then he would not just except payment he wanted to put my card on the account so they could bill it monthly. I finally had to refuse to give him my account number and I hung up.

Called my boyfriend and he called them. After hours o painstaking calls for him too and 8 people later. He finally told them we would mail a check for $59.80 and he wanted the account canceled. They offered him a free account and he said that is what they told us months ago so he didn't want anything cancel it all. I just checked and they still have not canceled it.

I called Aol to cancel my internet account with them as I had another internet provider. I had been paying aol 25.00 a month for the last ten years. The rep. told me I could keep AOL for 11.00 a month. I told them I did want it. At this point, I was offered the service for $4.00 per month. Again, I turned them down. Finally, I was told that I could have the internet service free of charge. I was quite shocked at this.

The rep told me that if I had gone to the account management page I would have seen that these options were available and have been since 2006. When I asked them why I was not informed that I could obtain a lower rate I was told it was my responsibility to go and find this information. I asked for a refund of money but was denied.

I pointed out that I never received a letter or an email regarding this. I feel that AOL has deliberatly ripped me off and that I was paying what turns out to be an exorbitant fee for something that I could have had for much less for the past 3 years.

Despite cancellation of my internet service with Compuserve [aol] they continued to deduct $21.95 per month from my Mastercard for twentythree months. Phonecalls and letters were ignored. I can produce my bills, letter and conformation number. They claim that they do not have the cancellation number that I gave them.

This is a lie. The number and name of the person that took my cancellation info gave me the info I have. I am out $504.85 for services that I did receive. Hopefully, you can help me. Thanks. Loss of $504.85 for services that I did not receive.

I tried to cancel AOL by use of their online service. When I looked up my credit card invoice online, I noticed that it had charged me anyway. I canceled online again. When the invoice arrived I tried to dispute the charge. They conveniently had no record of either of my online attempts. I wrote a letter canceling for Feb 2010. They canceled me as of July 2009.

When I contacted someone through live help (I was hung up on when I tried to call), I was told that they can't cancel ahead. When I asked why I was not notified and advised, the question was ignored. I was also told that they could not reinstate me - I would have to begin paying again as though I was a new customer. Upshot is that I have paid AOL for services for the next five months that I'm not getting.

Had America Online service for almost 5 years. The last year we had their service it was extremely slow, had problems getting web pages to come up, timed out and couldn't access email most of the time either. Made several calls to AOL tech support and they would say it was my computer, then I would call Dell and they would run thru stuff with me and in the end it was the dial up service. We unforunately live in the country and couldn't upgrade like they kept wanting me to to DSL. It was not available.

The last time I tried AOL I believe they just increased their rate, didn't notify me just took out of bank account as this is how account was set up, i tried to cancel then and they said it would be better if I would just go to Wal-Mart and get a FREE copy of the lastest version of AOL and call back. I did this as I was told that I had to do this before they could proceed with cancellation, and still wasn't better so the guy transferred me to Customer Service, they to tried to get me to continue service and I told her I want it cancelled.

After long battle and her telling me a million times what a valued customer to AOL I've been she said it would be cancelled. We started utilizing our sprint air card that we had already got for our laptop for all computers in our household. I then cancelled my debit card and got a new one after I called and told them that I cancelled. They told me at that point that i was notified by email that they weren't able to properly complete cancellation.

I told them how was I suppose to get my email when: 1.) I cancelled the account and didn't know that to check that email and 2.) One reason for cancelling was we couldn't get online to check email. So after long conversation they say they will cancel and I told her I already cancelled so what other information did she need. She stated she needed my physical address. I gave it to her and she said their is now a better version of service so she I should get better service. I told her no...I already cancelled and I hung up.

This was sometime late last year. Never heard from them again until yesterday 07/28/09 I received a phone call from collection agency indicating I was placed in collections by AOL. I was very very upset. I told her I cancelled and as always had a hard time understanding the people due to language accent. They wanted me to give them another credit card # to pay. I told them no and I argued with them that I didn't owe and they said yes. I asked them for Aol # and they said the account no longer belonged to AOL and they wouldn't talk to me. I asked if they could explain charges and they said it was for unpaid service since Dec 2008.

I said I wasn't paying for something I cancelled. They said if I cancelled I would have a cancellation #. I honestly don't remember getting such #, but since it had been sometime I honestly don't remember. I tried contacting AOL twice yesterday and spoke to supervisor got some same info and some different information, but all basically that the cancellation didn't go through, they tried to contact me via email and that I owed this money. I asked why they didn't call me or mail me a bill. They said that when I signed up for AOL I agreed to a clause that said they would only contact me via email. I said that is absurd that you couldn't call or mail anything, but you can give it to a collection agency to do that. They said that is what I agreed to.

They also tried to tell me that I had email that "I" called them on 03/31/09 and requested a free email account. That sent me through the roof. I never called them again, nor did I ever ask or even know that they offered a free email account. We set up a free hotmail email for the family as we couldn't access emails regulary with AOL nor get web pages to open timely or always. This is absolutely unbelievable!

I am very frusterated after 2 phone calls to collection agency and 2 to aol yesterday 07/28/09. I don't feel I owe the money and am having a hard time and don't know where to go to do anything about it and to I'm scared to give them another card to pay for it as they might say I signed up for service again. PLEASE HELP Sent me to collection agency for $47.61

In May of 2007 I tried to sign in and use my computer. I was denied access. Prior to this i had to change my debit card because the number was compromised. My bank contacted me, so I cancelled the card. I have not used AOL since then. Now in July 2009 I recieve a bill from AOL for 103.60. I called them to say what happened and they told me that I should have called to cancel. I said I was cancelled by AOL so I did not think I had to cancell.

I then asked them, Why they are sending me a bill now instead of sending a monthly bill. I did not get an answer. I told them that I would make a payment for a month, but do not feel like I owe for a service that I have not used in over 2 years

AOL Continues to bill our checking account after I have called and cancel the AOL account a number of times. We haven't used AOL internet service in probably 5 years. Our account keeps becoming negative. AOL will keep billing until they have their money. Sometimes the charge twice in 1 week. When I call they want info like our checking and routing numbers and SS number. We have paid them hundreds if not over a thousand dollars for services we do not have.

I canceled my account with AOL over the phone in 2004. After canceling the account, charges of 25.90 continued to show up on my credit card statement each month. I called back again and canceled the account and was told it was canceled. I also canceled that credit card to prevent any similar issues from occurring again. Now today, july 11, 2009 I received a letter in the mail from AOL saying I owe them payment for the last 2 months.

I called and talked with several people asking why I was STILL being charged and why it had not been canceled. The person I talked to had apparently never canceled the account, despite telling me the total opposite. The customer service supervisor said they can see that I have not used my account in the 5 years or logged in even once, but they have no record of my canceling it so there is nothing they can do about the balance on my account now. There is no record of it being canceled because whoever I talked to 4 years ago never actually canceled the account so there obviously would be no record of it. AOL is refusing the erase the balance and are threatening to turn it over to a collection agency if it is not paid in full, when it was clearly 100% their fault. Up until today, I had no reason to believe over the 4 years that I was STILL a member. This is totally ridiculous and criminal.

Hello,

I cancelled AOL 2 1/2 years ago. I even had gone so far as paying the bank 36.00 to block them after cancelling. Now they are charging me again. This account was not mine but, for my father who hasn't had a computer for 3 years now. I am very frustrated and have spent so much time on this in the past that I thought I would contact to you to see if you have any ideas on how to go about cancelling this.

After reading about all those complaints about aol.com, I am so glad they closed my e-mail service in March of 2009.Theyresponded to any of three letters I sent to get service re-opened. That is what I get for fifteen years of customer loyalty. Since then,I have gotten better deals from their competitors.

I lost about ten days of business before I had another system upand running. I am so glad that Aol.com made the MSN list of the worst company responding to consumer complaints in America.

I had cancelled AOL service back in September of 2008. A payment had been mede to keep service for one month only. An EMAIL was sent by AOL confirming the cancellation, and when the account would close. I had singed up for another ISP, COMCAST CABLE,during that month to take the place of AOL's service. I continued with FREE AOL MAIL even though the account should of ended by the end of September 2008.

AOL, WITHOUT MY KNOWLEDGE HAD CONTINUED TO TAKE MONEY FROM MY CHECKING ACCOUNT, CREDIT/DEBIT CARD, without permission. I had lost my card, and cancelled it in December of 08. AOL was unable to steal money from this account any longer. AOL has done this to many people according to what I have read over the internet. It must be more profitable to steal money from people than the court fines they have paid.

I have received 2 calls from AOL credit department asking for payment of $120. They refuse to listen to me. they told me they would give my name to the credit agency to give me a bad credit rating because I refused to pay them. I told them I would take care of their problem if they did.

It seems like I will be harassed by AOL unless I pay money to them. Their threats of ruining my credit rating to get me to pay, "I consider that extortion, I do not owe them anything". I am very [upset] at AOL for taking money from my bank account after they had been cancelled. If anything should be paid, it should be a refund to me for their poor accounting practices.

I signed up for a free 3 month trial but cancelled it in 1 month. Back in March. In May they deducted money from my bank and said I never cancelled. What a joke. So I am out the money after I argued with them and caught them in several lies. I did get them to admit there has been no activity what so ever since March..hmm... figure it out. Terrible customer service...That is if you get to talk to some one and not left on hold!!

I canceled my AOL account. They not only did not stop billing my bank account, they raised their fee. They presently owe me $197.88. They claim I owe them. They called twice today and threatened to put my alleged delinquent account on my Credit Reports. Bad credit record and continual harrassment.

We cancelled our AOL account in June of 2008. We used my son's bank account. He is 17. We thought that the AOL account was closed. Today 5/27/2009 we discovered his account is overdrawn bt $65.83. AOL is charging us $65.83 a month for an account. They are charging us for 2 accounts so they are charging us over $130 a month for 2 accounts. The second account they opened without authorization is in my dead brothers name. He died on 5/23/1989. They charge $65.83 for his account. Total the have overdrwn the account $653.

First I called their customer service number that I had to get from Google because AOL does not post one.

That person'sname was Christine. She said she could find no account for us. She said she needed our bank account number and routing number to find our account. I did not have the routing number so she gave me the fraud number saying they could find the account without the routing number.

I called the fraud number. I spoke with Mark he said he could not find the account without the routing number. So Christine lied to us. Sound familiar? So I got the routing number from my bank and called fraud back and gave it to them.

They told me that either the bank account number was wrong and I read it to Mark 2 times. Then he said the bank probably changed the account number and routing number without me knowing it. I was looking at my April 2009 statement and had just called the bank and got the routing number.

I had the bank woman read the number back to me so I knew I had the right one. Now Mark told me that the bank had to call AOL to resolve this problem otherwise there would be no resolution. I have been reading on this website that this is the tactic they use with everyone.

The new twist to tortre me with is using my dead brothers name to open an account then charge him $65.83. The really weird part is they are sending my dead brothers charges to my son's bank account. My son was not even born when my brother died. My son was born a full 3 years later.

I called to cancel my AOL service over a year ago and was given a confirmation number. AOL never stopped billing me for the service and continued billing my credit card monthly for more than a year. When I called to complain, I was told the confirmation number was invalid and they could only reimburse me for 3 months at $25.90 per month At 25.90 per month for even 12 months it comes to over over $300.00 that AOLrefuses to pay me back

AOL is continuing to bill for a service I no longer have. The service has been discontinued since 2005.

It has taken me 10 months to cancel my AOL account. For everyone of those 10 months, AOL charged to my VISA $25.90. When I sought help over the telephone, the customer agent repeatedly hung up on me.

It is totally impossible to cancel an account with aol online which is what they say you can do. They have made it impossible to do it.

I wanted to change from AOL's dialup to broadband in October 2008. A leaflet from AOL (inserted in a magazine) indicated that one could sign up to broadband and could 'cancel anytime'. I telephoned the number and was told that I had to signup for 18 months and no amount of arguing was going to change their mind. I therefore decided to cancel with AOL altogether and I signed up for broadband with our UK BT (British Telecomms). OK, I had to sign up for 12 months, but at least they were up front with it.

I sent an email to AOL in October 08 requesting cancellation giving them the required details in oreder to do so. However, they kept charging my Credit Card each month, so I kept sending reminder emails and used their ever changing system forms for cancelling. My last email to them was February 09. They kept taking my money. I then contacted my Credit Card company (which I had threatened to do). They Already knew of problems with AOL cancellation. They sent me a form which I completed and they Refunded the offending subscriptions. Now AOL have been continually contacting me demaing that I pay the 'live' account, some 80! I have refused and keep expaling that I had cancelled and that I have documentary evidence. Tonight, they have have indicated that they are going to send in the bailiffs.

I don't what the hell to do as baliffs will enforce and there is nothing you can do to stop them and they will add on their considerable costs. I am totally stuck, I am being persued by a company, which in my opinion, is committing fraud and I do not know what to do to stop them. Can anyone help or advise as I at my wits end and extreemly stressed out? Please help - anyone, please...

In april 2008, I had a AOL,CD saying 1 month free. I used it for 1 week, and then my computor broke.I had called AOL,and told them I was cancelling the free month, and service for good.I had bought a new high speed system.I signed up with Comcast. The new system does not take dial up, it has to be connected to a high speed cable connection

i try out aol for 90 days free and only use it for about 30 days if that much, and i call and had my account drop, this was way back in april of last year, and now its 5/5/09 and on saturday i notice they took out $77 so i call and they said they did not take it yet and i told them they had no right to take it and on monday they took it and they keep telling me it will take 2-3 months but 2-3 never came for them and they still keep pulling money out, the day i use it for 30 days i call and had it drop the account but they seem not to have that on file, they was told not to take money and they did two days later, something needs to be done about this tomany people getting rip off by them stealing money

I have been lied to and cheated for 9 months while trying to get AOL to close an account I was paying for in my daughter's name.

They told me they could not bring up an account using my daughter's name, phone number or address. Nor could they bring up an account using my name. They wanted me to provide the number to the card they were charging for AOL services, however, it was replaced by a new one so I did not have access to the old number. I was told by one supervisor (Christine in the Philipines) that I needed to get the authorization number from my bank for the latest transaction and she could locate the account that way. Unfortunately, when I called back I got a different call center, India, and the supervisor there, Jack, so I had to start from the beginning with searching by names and phone numbers etc. then he said he could not use the authorization number (that I took the time to get from my bank) to bring up an account and he did not know why Christine would have told me such a thing was possible. Now we are at 1.5hrs on the phone, today alone, and he says I'm out of luck cancelling the account if I cannot give him the Visa number used to initiate the account! WHAT!!

I asked how many other call centers they have and he said there was only India and the Philipines. So I called until I got the Philipines call center and asked to speak to Christine, who of course, was not available so I spoke to Supervisor Axel. He used the Authorization number, that Jack said could not be used, to bring up an account and guess what? He brought up the account and guess what? It was in my daughter's name! The name Christine said she could not bring up an active account in! He said he could have brought it up under her name and that it was an active account. He is the first AOL employee to be able to bring up any active account that I was being billed for. That is why I believe they are liers and cheats! He said that since there were no calls made previously, he could not not refund any charges.

I told him that having no notes of my or my daughter calling previously does not mean we did not. We were simply told there was no active account to make notes on. I actually had a bit of a conversation about that issue with both Christine and Jack as well as Axel. So, the rule about having proof that you have tried to cancel an account or they will have to refund you... well they get around that by just pretending they can't find an account until one day you get someone who will actually admit to bringing up the "active" account that you are being bogusly billed for; you have no proof you ever called before because there are no notes on the account as they "could not locate an active account" any other time you called, therefore you are stuck paying for something you didn't even get to use.

I had the AOL Three month free CD. It did not work on my computer, so I deleted it. I tried to contact AOL and cancel, but never received any confirmation. Then I checked my American Express and they have been charging me. She said she could tell I was not using the service, but that I signed up for a membership (she said just like a gym you dont go to). I told her I never received a bill and I was unaware of this policy. She said that was the way it was ,and she would cancel my membership as of today and, of course, I would be responsible for any charges incurred up until today.

What a unfair company. I have American Express disputing my charges. I have one computer and AOL was not working.

I will never have a good word to say about AOL.

I went to an AOL free service, after paying them for 12 years a monthly fee. The deactivated my account and will not tell me why unless I write to them, which, of course, take forever to resolve this problem. I called 3 different executives at AOL and have not received call backs. I do not have access to my email.

I too have been ripped off by AOL in trying to cancel the internet service.

I was an AOL internet subscriber for about 15 years and always paid my fees on time. Many years ago I went to annual service fee charged to my credit card in January/February.

This year 1/24 an annual fee of $239 popped up on my credit card. I called the card company to dispute it and they put a hold on the charge.

I tried calling AOL to cancel on 1/26/09 and they said they would and a cancellation notice was received. I thought that was the end of it.

Two months later it showed up again on my credit without notice. I contacted the credit card company and they said AOL had sent in the "paperwork" documenting my responsibility to pay. I said that I had a cancellation notice and had not had the service for two months. The credit card company said to fax in the cancellation notice. I did but the $239 was never taken off. I paid the credit card bill and called AOL's "customer service" again.

"Mike" the accented "supervisor" I talked to said he was "powerless" to refund any money even though I had a cancellation and essentially was not using the service for the year's worth of premiums I was paying ahead of time.

He said the only thing he could do was to re-start my service which I did not want of course.

I stated that no other service for which I pay simply charges me without notice ahead of time--no other utility etc. simply goes into my credit card account and charges me like that--none.

He gave me this song and dance that I had been "notified" in September with the chance to cancel by October.

I made two points to him:

1. The email notice was four months in advance (among many other emails) and no other utility does it so far in advance of a due date, where one would expect a later notice.

2. The purport of the email was that AOL annual subscription customers could change to a monthly fee. I did not want to change to a monthly fee; I wanted to use up my prepaid annual subscription and then when they notified me like any other utility about 4 weeks in advance, then I would cancel it.

This practice should be considered fraud and a congressional investigation is in order.

I had an aol account from 2001 until 2004. I believe they did not cancell it in May of 2004 when I requested it. Many people obtained my pass word through my son and daughter, so I requested my account and screen name cancelled. I was accused of sending bad or discusing e-mails that I did not send. my young daughter was recieving strange e-mail from our own account. I think that screen name could be still being used by someone other than me. those e-mails caused court action against me and yet no one has stopped that account. I tryed several times via e-mail and telephone to remove my screen name and account but aol did not do that. How can I find out if someone is still using it? AOL will not help me.

I cancelled online internet service with this co. about 8 or so months ago. They ignored my 2 e-mail attempts to cancel service. Finally I had to stop pay to the co. which cost me a bank fee. A few months ago they decided to help themselfs to my bank account again, and I would not have known they were helping themselfs to my account until a non-suffiecent funds notice arrived, which cost me another bank fee.

Had to close the checking account-feel that my account information was abused, incurred add'l bank fee's, Bank of America denies any error's were made. And that I did not give any re-authorization to allow my bank account to be accessed. $129.50 takenplus bank fee's $68.00.

I cancelled AOL in December and the service was cancelled. The problem they still charged me another year of service. I am being charged for something I do not have. I contacted what they call customer service? They stated I had to cancel in Sept. not to be charged, 4 months before my agreement was up. They have no interest in solving this problem.

I lost my job in November and now I have a Credit Card bill I can not afford. I am going to have to borrow money to pay this. The stress over this is effecting me mentally. I am paying for a service I do not have. I certainely hope they do not try to charge me for anything else.

In 2006 AOL refused to cancel my service and continued to bill my credit card without permission. I cancelled the credit card after numerous attempts to get them to stop billing me for services I was not using. AOL is now (2009) trying to collect $47.95 for unpaid service that occurred after I cancelled the credit card. I have requested a paper bill because I will not give AOL my credit card information again. They refuse to send me a bill and threaten to ruin my credit if I don't pay them using a credit card immediately.

$47.95 for disputed bill.
Damaged to my credit report

Wasted time dealing with annoying phone calls from India.

I contacted America online in 2001 and canceled my internet provider services with them via there 1 800 number. I had switched to broadband services with verizon. The Gentleman on the phone said I could keep my e-mail accts even if I did not use their dial up services. He made no mention of charges. Since AOL offers free email accts like hotmail does that is exactly what i was led to believe I was doing.

My wife informed me today that we have been getting charged 20.95 per month since 2001 for AOL services we have not used. When I notified AOL the said the charges were normal and were charged wether we used there dial up services or not since they have no record of us ever canceling with them. They do however have records showing we have not used thier dial services since 2001 but cannot refund our money because it is not thier policy. To add salt to the wound he goes into a 20 min sales pitch trying to sell me more products i do not need.

I am extremely upset I feel like i have been taken advantage of. My children could of benefited from the extra money. They make it soo dificult to cancel and when you think you do they pull the bait and switch. They use a play on words to take advantage. I feel like they went into one of my bank accts that I hardly use and stole $2000. They should be made to send out monthly bills so people are not taken advantage of. It may not sound like a lot of money to some people but it has put considerable strain on my marriage that money was being saved for our childs future. We always paid loyally when we used their services and to get treated like this make you wonder why our great country that I faithfully served is in the mess that it is in today.

In Novemnber I got a used computer and a cd for AOL so I downloaded their service the last week of November 2008. They then proceeded to take over my computer and I cancelled the next week. I told them I was because of all the unsolicitated downloads. I just got a bill from them how do you get them to quit? I had the service for ten days and it took a month to eradicate it from my computer. Now they want money for services I did not want or used.

They say my payment method is out of date and want to back bill my account. As of now the amount is 32.09. I refuse to talk to them on my computer because I am afraid they will raid it. They can't wreck my credit raring I think it is a about a 150. I have not worked in six years but all my money is tight. What can I do? My daughter warned me about them but I didn't listen.

Cancelled AOL three years ago. Found out that they were still deducting charges from my bank account. Called last year and spoke with a supervisor who stated that it would be cancelled, and as you can guess, it still has not. I have contacted my bank, and they have refunded me three months of the charges, but advised me to file a complaint and they would help stop AOL from charging my account. Now AOL is calling me and harrassing me with collection action - on a closed account! Where they owe me approximately $350.00.

AOL is advising me that they are going to add a deliquency notice to my credit report, and they are calling me harrassing me for payment.

I used to have a Capital One credit card that I used mainly to bill my AOL internet service to. I have complaints about both companies. First, AOL refused to cacel my internet service. So I decided to cancel my Capital One card. Soon thereafter AOL started sending me bills in the mail theatening to cut off my service if I didn't pay. Why would I pay for AOL when I decided I no longer wanted it to begin with? Any way, after I had the remaining balance paid off on my Capital One card paid off, they still tried to bill me for my annual membership fee. I called to tell them that I refuse to pay a membership fee on a cancelled account, but they told me that in order to close the account, I need to pay the membership fee. Why should I have to pay to close the account when I already cancelled it I'll never know.

My parents had Aol about five years ago, possibly longer, but I know definaltely it was five years ago. They cancelled it before I got married and switched to earthlink. I'll be married 6 years in may. they continued taking out 32.98 so my oldest sister called them, said that they would cancel it, not to worry. Two months go by, and charges pop up again, so my other sister calls to cancel it. Tell them what has happened. They say sorry, no problem. We get no cancellation number or anything, and when asked about it, they say that it's fine, everything's been taken care of. here we are almost six years later, and they're being charged again!

My parents have never checked their bank statements on a regular basis, and when they do, it's to check to see if the house came through, vehicle, etc. no little charges or anything. My mom got to looking the other day and noticed the AOL charge. got what bank statements she could find, after they moved and looked at them. Eight months of bank staements and counting so far with aol charges.

My mom calls them and they give her the run around saying they've received no cancellation, so I get on the phone the next day and call them. They try to give me the run around, but it doesn't work. I told them how long we've been without service, and who called to cancel previously. They tell me that that's not possible, because only the account holder can cancel. I told them that that wasn't my problem, because my sister's clearly stated who they were at the time and why they were calling and on who's behalf that they were calling for. I told them that it was their mistake on their end, if they went ahead and told us that they had cancelled the account and everything was taken care of.

I told them that I wanted that money back into the account and that they were not authorized to take out anymore payments. I had them put a supervisor on the phone cause I was getting some answers. She claimed that without a cancellation number they couldn't confirm the date of cancellation and the only number I had was from the day before when my mom called. I told her that that wasn't right because my sisters had called five years ago and canceled it, and THEY didn't give us any cancellation number! She told me that I had to write a letter to some place with my claim, and proof.

We have changed our server from AOL to Comcast. However, I am still paying for AOL, which is now free via COMCAST as I cannot find a way to contact AOL to cancel my membership. Thus, I will have to continue to pay as any attempt to contact them ends up being undeliverable. We have only had COMCAST for three weeks, but I want to end the contract I have had with AOL for years, IMMEDIATLEY!

Called to cancel service. Continued to be charged for some other type of service. Tried to contact someone via phone and was told that I had to contact another department, and than was told that I had to contact customer service via email. Left a email through customer service.

cancelled AOL, was given emails on aol.com email a/c confirming cancellation, 6mths later arrears letter stating i have not paid for the last 6 months. when i told them i had cancelled and that the BT hadnt been in use for the last 6mths, they said they had no record of my cancellation. tried to get the emails from my aol email and they have been wiped!!!

i will now be blacklisted as they are sending my bill to the arrears dept.

I have been trying to cancel AOL for a month. You can't fire these people. I have tried looking online to cancel and there is no way to do that. I tried calling AOL and no one will answer the phone. They are charging me for some voice service that I did not order, nor do I need. I have DSL I don't use the phone line. What do you have to do to fire these SOB's? Please help.

They are charging me 4.95 for a program that I don't need, nor did I order. They are charging another 4.95 for something they TBAOL Prem. Services and 25.90 a month for membership when you can get AOL for free.

I have continued to be billed for online access for over 2 years. The account was cancelled by phone but AOL states they have no record. Since I turned over the household accts to my husband...he has missed this billing when the statement came, in until now. I was stunned when he asked me about it.

We have been paying for online service that we cancelled. I want my money back. Is there a current class action lawsuit that I can join to recoup my $600 plus dollars? This is intolerable! Apparently I am not the first to be taken by AOL?

I cancelled my dial up internet service and they have cancelled my email service where I can send emails and when I called because they said that I could keep that email address still and user name without charge.I have had problems since I dropped the dial up service with them and called they said that they couldn't help me unless I paid for service and then Tech support would be available, I ended my service on February 1 because the support line takes so long when you call any other time. I didnt even use the AOL in February because I needed high speed service !

My Email is all screwed up and I can't send any emails so I can't get to my Email Address book to switch things over to Zoomtown my high spedd provider!

I was using AOL's 30 - day free offer as I had some of the other Internet service provider's free 30 day service until I would decide which one's service I would select to be my permanent ISP. I always made a point of canceling on day 25 to ensure not getting cancelled in time thus incurring a charge. I would perform the cancellation online as provided followed up with a phone call just to make sure. I had no problem canceling with all the other internet service providers offering the free 30 - day offer except AOL. I followed AOL's instructions for canceling online, careful to fill out the form correctly.

I followed that up with a phone call and after following their phone maze and being passed from person to person, I was advised to complete the cancellation process online which I had done. I made the assumption, unfortunately, that the cancellation had taken effect and that was evidenced by the fact that I could not access the internet using the AOL service. But, not suspecting that I was being cheated, I didn't pay close attention to my bank statement until 6 months down the road when I go an overdraft fee from my bank and knew I should have had the money to cover that little amount of a check I'd written. I pulled out my bank statement, then went back several months each time finding that AOL was billing me.

I called my bank and had them go over the statements with me and found that AOL had been billing me for 6 months. I called AOL about this a got a screaming mimi that denied that one could even cancel online and said that their records did not show where I'd called in the cancellation either and refused to make my refund for any of the money they took from me. They had this trained behavior down to a science because calling back in again a couple of more times, I got the same treatment from two guys who didn't scream but talked loud, rude and made the same denials about a capacity to cancel online and their records didn't show where I had called in a cancellation except the one I'd called in that day. That was a LIE.

AOL HAD taken $16.99 via my Visa Debit card for 6 months for a total of $101.94. I've learned that since then AOL had been ordered to stop requesting people's credit card numbers during their 30 day free offer, but, I have never received my money back which AOL ripped off.

I'm just trying to Cancel my AOL Membership or Subscription, and what You have to go through to get it done is rediculous. Why can't a Customer Service Person come on the line and take Your information, and let it be! It's really that simple.

I am not on AOL anymore and they keep Taking money out of my account. I'm sure you hear this all the time. Something needs to be done. I will not recommend them to anyone, ever

I saw an icon on my new computer for a free trial to AOL and I decided to give it a try. It promised that no charges would be applied to my credit card for 30 days, but within about 5 days I noticed a charge to my card. I talked to an agent online and he said that the 30 day trial offer was no longer available and that I had signed up for a 90 trial during which I would be charged but could opt out at any time in the 90 days meanwhile my card would continue to be charged for the 90 days and sometime after that they would refund the money. But, for the 90 days I would definately have to pay $25 a month for those three months.

I had to call my bank and they imediately filed a fraud claim against AOL and refunded my money right away and told AOL that they would have to refund the money as it was a fraudulant charge.

After my bank refunded the money, AOL sent me several bills for the $25 they never should have taken out in the first place, and even though I sent them letters showing them that the charge was fraudulant on their part they continued to bill me until they sent my account to Alied collection agency who then proceeded to harrass me repeatedly. I explained to them that the charge was fraudulant and the person I spoke to there said, I don't care! I am going to mark this against your credit.

I Have been a customer of AOl for 9 Years and they canceled my account for no reason, and without any notification I use aol for my business, I send pictures of Mobile Homes out to people and thats the only thing I do on Computer, I do have other people that live in home but after 9 years I wish would have been notified, and when tried to call customer service to find out why had canceled my service they cannot tell me why, I had to write there CAT Dept, I wrote the Cat dept and the Corporate Office Complaining and it has been over a week and still have not contacted me at all.

It is gonna be a real headache to have to email all my customers a different email address and my business cards have my email address on it, ALso have lost sales due to Email being canceled without notification.

6mths ago I cancelled by aol account Well as today they took out 25.90 out of my checking account Have not use the service in 6mths. I Wanted a refund they refuse because I did no have a conformation number were I had cancelled 6mths ago. I ask to speech to a supervisor and I was told that they would tell me the same thing she keep on about, I still had service unitl March. So hopefully with a few more phones call i can get this matter resolved.

As a result of bad service from this company, we attempted to close the account. This was done with a certified letter and three faxes, to no avail. They have charged our checking account in February for a service fee despite warnings that we would contact you.

Charge of $25.90 in February, which will continue each month until they rectify this.

Currently i am living overseas (Europe) since 1998. I recently had a trip to the USA in 2004 and used one of those AOL disc that gave you internet access from a walmart shop. Signed up and used it for about 2 weeks and then didnt renew my subscription as i as not needing it anymore. Few months ago (Nov 2008)i had my Debit card compromised and had it closed.

After a review of my bank statements i noticed an Charge of $25.00 every month going all the way back to the year of 2004. For one i NEVER signed any letter authorizing AOL to make a withdraw. Since i was leaving on business when i found this out i would call them when i returned. Well after i returned my parents call me to tell me that AOL was looking for me. They didnt tell them where i was as they didnt know why they would call them there. After that i called them and one lady kinda laughed when i told her what was going on then she told me oh sorry you need to call the billing department and didnt bother to help me out or nothing!

After looking at all my statements it seems they want 2 months of service after i closed my Debitcard. I would have to say they OWE me 4 YEARS of service i never used! Anyone got any idea's or someone i can talk with about this situation? Any help would be helpful on this matter. Anyone know ANY Attorneys who are seeking action with AOL.

Back in the year 2007 I called and cancled my AOL account. I was at that time paying 24.99 a month for service. I went with a cheaper provide. I found out that AOL had not in fact closed my account and were still billing me. I called them again. This time I notified the back and the transactions for 24.99 from AOL were blocked. I then received bills for 25.90 a month with which the back paid. I never checked for AOL charges Until today...stupid I know but I didn't think they would change the amount to slip by the auto-pay block.

I can't say a complete amount of loss at this time but it is estimated at $337.00 and pending further investigation by my bank. I can only go back for 12 months and they are researching the information for me now. That is just the charges from the company...this doesn't include any fees from my bank for over draft protection due to my not knowing about these charges from AOL.

I got the 3 month free trial in the mail. Moved, canceled after 3 weeks. The first person agreed it was a mistack to with draw 103.60 off my card and it would be refunded the next day 24 hours. The 2 said 4-5 days I would get my money put back on my card. After speaking supervisor he said ti did not show that money had been taken from my card. My card service said that AOL had takin money from my acct. Online summery shows they did. Now today they said they di dnot get any money from me and it iwas not a 3 month trial. Please I beg you please help me. That money was to pay for my meds. I am disabled.

In December 06 I sighned up for a free three month trail with new computer. I cancelled the AOL service in April 07 because we did not use it. For the past two years AOL has been debiting my credit card $25.90 AOL TWX Services. I did not catch the monthly fee until December 08. They would not look at my account when I told them to check the usage hours and activity of my account which I told them had been cancelled in April of 2007. They told me that I could indeed cancell the account with a confirmation number and told me to please use the service for the month of December as it had already been debited. I told them that did not make any sense to me as I did not have an active account with their services. T

oday I received a bill from AOL services stating I owed for the last three billing cycles for $77.90. They had already taken those payments from my credit cards statements. I called the AOL service number on the billing statement. They said I had to mail copies of the statements to prove they had been paid. I hung up on them and told them they were frauds and scamers.

My credit is outstanding, they are corrupt. I refuse to pay them for services I never used and did not authorize them to take. The account had been cancelled and they continued to take from my credit card. I am out approximately $600.00 for services that had been cancelled befor the free trial period was even up. It makes me physically sick to have to deal with this company. And now they want money that was already paid. When will this end!

I cancelled my aol service in September 2006.....I have not used the service since then, As I was cancelling my credit card...I saw that they were still taking money out of my account every month. I Have called their numbers, and I am kept on hold, or put back into the voice mail system. I am going to cancel my credit card to make them stop taking out the money....In the meantime I would like to recoup the two years of monthly installments, that they were not privy to.

$25.30 per month @ 28 months is 704.80 Please advise, how I may deal with this. I am going to try once again to contact them via email. as well as phone.

I'm the Administrator at our church and was attempting to cancel the account we have with AOL. They would not let me because I was not the original person who opened up the account. They would not tell me who the original person is and in all likelihood that person is no longer a member of our church. We do not use the service any longer.

I ask them to help me reconcile this and the operator would not let me speak to anyone else. I do not have the original agreement nor passwords to even logon and cancel it online. The payment is taken directly from the church bank account which is no longer active and they said we would still be billed for the service until they speak to the original person for cancellation. They said that the bill would likely go to collections if payment is unable to be paid. I asked could I send information to them that shows that I am the authorizer of all of the churches financial matters including accounts payable and banking and the operator said no.

I'm trying to cancel my paying aol account .They sent this survey to ask about the support but I am still getting charged. As you may recall, on Monday Nov 17 you contacted AOL. Our records show that Raj, one of our Customer Care Consultants, assisted you concerning a support issue. We continually strive to improve our customer service. One way we do this is by asking members like you for an evaluation of your most recent experience with AOL and the level of service we provided you. Please take the next few minutes to complete the survey located below.

I keep getting charged for aol monthly and have tried to cancel two times. The last time was on Nov.17,2008.

I am hoping that you will be able to get this resolved for me since AOL is not doing anything nor are they returning any of my calls but yet they are charging me for my internet services. I have wrote many many letters to AOl to cancel my account since June 2008 and as of yet they have not done anything and is still charging my account - I am hoping that you will be able to get this account closed for me and for AOL to stop taking money from me.

tryed to cancel aol service.they say it was but theyre stil trying to charge my account. 4 times in 3 days on an account that is closed but the bank stil charges me $25 every time can u help.

it keeps costing me money i do not have as i am unemployed.

I ordered service 2 years ago and used it for one month. I could not find my screen name or email that I registered with and was never able to cancel. I could not find a number. I finally found the number this morning and it took 30 mins to cancel and they charged me today for another month and would not credit my account back.

In July 2006, i have purchased from Walmart a CD with an AOL dial-up Internet connection, which I have used for a year, until approximately July 2007. In July 2007 I have switched to another internet provider, therefore, I have tried to cancel online my AOL account. I have been assisted online, to cancel the account,by one of the customer service agents from AOL, via their chat service. After following all the steps given by the agent, he has told me that I have successfully canceled my AOL subscription and I will no longer be charged with payment. With this done, I had no doubt in my mind that I will not be charged furthermore, thinking that once I have closed the AOL account, it is permanent.

Checking online my bank account, I have just discovered that I have been continuously deducted payment for AOL services, since July 2007, even though I have unsubscribe and terminated the AOL account. It looks like they have deducted from my checking account, every month $25.90, payment for a service that I have not been using since more than a year and a half. I really want them to stop charging me for services that they do not provide for me, and I want them to reimburse the whole sum that they have deducted from my bank account without any authorisation from me, since the day when I stopped using the AOL service. Thank you!

AOL account was for Walter, Batavia, Illinois. He passed away 02/22/02 and we have been trying to cancel this AOL service since that time to no avail. We can't reach a real person to take of cancelling this account. The credit card that we used to pay for this has since been cancelled. The credit card company has notified us that we should request AOL to credit back any charges after the date of death, but who do we contact to get this taken care of???????

This amounts to quite a bit of money which none of us can spare these days.

I called to cancel to cancel dial up service in December due to no longer having home phone service. Was advised by AOl Rep to call in the beginning of January to cancel service so I wouldn't be billed. Called in the begininning of January as advised by AOL as was told that I would have to pay for the full month of service even though I canceled service. I will never deal with aol again.

I contacted AOL, Suji on October 11, 2008 to cancel one of my accounts two accounts, and change the remaining to the $11.99 plan with unlimited usage. They continued to bill me for the cancelled plan, and changed the remaining account to a usage based plan which added additional charges of $35.00 in usage. I was not given credit to the cancellation date which they continued to bill on the Nov. and Dec. bills.

I called again on 12/02/08 and 12/31/08. They have double billed my in the past and refused to credit my account. I believe they should be penalized and my monies refunded. Thanks. Crolia

Ruined my credit rating and was billed a $15.00 Late Payment Fee by my credit card.

I cancelled my AOL over a year ago and they kept taking money form my bank account. I called them several times to stop taking money from me. I left the country for about 9 months and after reviewing my bank account AOL had been taking money. I cancelled my debit/credit card and guess what. I get a bill notice that I am past due on my payment!! I never received a bill in he mail the entire time they took my money for no services, services I cancelled.

I called he 800 number on the card and get the manager at AOL who admits that there has been no activity for over 6 months and say e will cancel the account, but will not credit me back the money they took. Today I receive a letter stating that my AOL has been cancelled and I need to make the final payment. AOL/LOL I am not paying anything and I figure you owe me for about 12 months of stealing my money.

Now my credit score will behit because I am not going to pay this last monthy payment which is a scam to get my new bank card number.

I have been trying for over a year to cancel my AOl. I have talked to several people at customer service whom have stated that they will stop the monthly withdrawal from my checking account. This has yet to happen, and as a result I am paying for a service I do not use and I have had several check to bounce. If you stop the payment , aol alters the amount to withdraw, and if you take out the money, you get charged 35.00 by aol plus your bank fees.

After 11 years and 9 months AOL had canceled my service with the company. I have no access to my emails or saved info for the past 11 plus years. I have used ----to send emails about my business and last Wednesday December 10, 2008 they cut off my service with the company. They said that I've violated their terms of service and had me send a letter to thier Community Action Team via US mail. Their customer service numbers have been of no help. I've been without my email for over a week and no one has been able to reach me.

I cancelled my account over a year ago and found out they have been debiting my account over $32.00 a month for a least 6 months. I havent gone back any farther yet to see if they have been doing the whole time. I have internet with my cell phone and can't believe that I didn't catch it early. The bank says there is nothing they can do to help I need advice and want to know if I can get them to credit my account. I feel like I have been robbed.

My husband is in the construction business and is really stuggling we have fallen behind on all our bills and we are filling bankruptcy. I know that we really could of used that money and would like to be reimbursed. Or take legal action if at all possible.

Signing up for a free trial of AOL is the easiest thing to do. Matter of fact when buying a new system, it is the one full provider sent with the computer. Now you are set download your normal service provider cancel their easy to cancel service, but it will not cancel. Count on it.

$250.00 cash

AOL has shut down my business! I have been approved by AOL to send mass emails for my business. Recently I have recived error messages (3times) when I have sent out mass emails to my customers. Each time I have called and have been told everything is OK and I can continue with no risk of interruption to my service and given reference numbers. I have been operating with mass emails for 8 years. Today my service was suspended!

When I called to question what had happened, I was told my account was in violation. They would not tell me what the violation was! I was also told that I needed to WRITE A LETTER to AOL in Virginia to find out what the violation was and to solve the problem. No one would answer my question or refer me to a supervisor. I spoke to people in India, Sri Lanka and the Philippines and they could not refer me to another person. I did ask if the person worked out of their home, since they could not refer me to a supervisor.

I do an internet business, this is the busiest time of year for retailers, in a bottomed out economy. AND AOL HAS SHUT ME DOWN! for weeks, since the only way I can communicate with them is via snail mail. I was thanked however that I had been a customer for 12 years and 3 months, BIG DEAL! I can no longer communicate with my customers, they are holding my address book hostage!

I can not cancel my Aol service I have tried for 6 hours this week and all they do is put up different prices for me to choose from. I tried to talk to someone on the live help but they said I had to follow the instructions on the internet I am so upset with them it was not this hard to get the service, but impossible to get rid of them. If there is a way I would be happy to know how I tried to call their 800 number but they will not talk to me either.

I had to cancel my credit card and get a new number issued they just keep taking the money out wheather I want the service or not.

I cancelled aol in November 2007. I got a call from a collection agency for a bill of $49.00

It is an impossibility to cancel with this company. Because there is no way to contact them and I've tried they continually collect monies from us every month.

Beginning in November 2007 I attempted through letters & emails (I never found a phone number) to cancel my AOL account. Their web site offers many opportunities to do alot of things except cancel. Ten months later and $329.00 later I finally as my bank manager if it was possible to cancel an automatic withdrawl. After affirming that this could be done I put the block in place. Soon, thereafter, came the invoice & phone calls at work claiming that I owed $32.90. I thought the matter was settled but to my irritation I am now receiving collection calls from Allied Collections claiming that though the account is closed I still owe the money!

I have notified my supervisors of the the problem to deflect the embarrassment of receiving these types of calls however, I shouldn't be receiving them in the first place.

I have tried NUMEROUS time to cancel this service, but they continue to charge my bank account 11.99 every month. An acquaintance of mine is STILL being double billed every month even after the lawsuit that AOL had over that issue.

I have lost over 100 dollars to AOL stating that they canceled my service, but NOT doing so. My poor friend has had to consider canceling all of her financial accounts to try to stop the double billing, but then worries about her credit.

I called to close my aol account due to emergency situation since the account was being hacked. I was told that they can not sustain closure of the account if I log in within 30 days. Since whoever is hacking my account realtime is able to log in whenever they like this response to my request basically offers no protective measure.

So I asked them to delete my account permanently without the option of reopening and it was conveyed to me that that is not how it works and the person I was speaking to was not able to accommodate me, So per my request for a supervisor I was put on hold for what seems like an eternity, and finally hung up out of frustration. THERE IS A RISK TO SECURITY HERE AS I AM MOST LIKELY NOT ALONE IN THIS COMPLAINT.

I have no confirmation that my account is inactive. It is imperative that I confirm my account may no longer be used asap.

I attempted to cancel my services for over 4 years but the is no way to contact them.

There is no online service or phone number to call to cancel services. We have paid for a service that we do not use for over 4 years

I called AOL in March to cancel my dial up account. They tried to sell other services and discuss the benefits of keeping the account active. I confirmed that I wanted to cancel and was told that cancellation was added to my account. I did not ask for a cancellation number. Several months later I noticed that they were still charging my credit card. I called again to cancel and was told that the account would be canceled and I would not be charged again. Later I realized that my credit card was still being charged.

The next time I spoke with a man but I did not record his name. I complained about canceling multiple times but still getting charged. He apologized and told me that he has canceled the account and that I would not be charged anymore. Today is 11/5 and there was another charge on my credit card. This time I called American Express to have them reject any future charges. They told me that they could not do this without a cancellation number. That is when the light bulb went off. They never offered a number and I never asked.

They contacted AOL for me and connected me to the representative. I got the speech about dropping the service and what I would lose. I asked for the cancellation number. I had to ask Andrea 2 or 3 times for the number before she gave it to me. I then asked about a credit. She said that could not be done based on their rules and that I had NO previous contact with AOL since setting up the account 3 years ago. I spoke with her supervisor, Monica who said the same thing. She said that they log all conversations with customers regardless of the reason and that they have no record of my ever calling. I asked her to verify the cancellation number.

Word of advice: If you need to cancel AOL do not get off the phone until they give you a cancellation number. I would then ask to speak to a supervisor and make them read you the cancellation number to confirm. Then immediately call your credit card or bank with the cancellation number, name of the person you spoke with and time. It will then be in their system should you have to fight with AOL later. No wonder they can't keep customers.

I had a paying account with AOL for about 11 years and in August of this year they canceled my account. I talked to several of their reps in India and the Phillippins but never got a specific answer why I was canceled nor how to retrieve my personal information, they said I had to write a letter. The point is that they have a right to do what they want, but they have a lot of my personal things that they wont give me back.

All my email addresses and saved mail including a lot of photographs from the last 11 years is lost to me. On the mail I saved with photographs, I used the option save on my computer this is a joke, I can't retrive this information without going through AOL and since I don't have an account with them anymore, I have lost all this. All my email addresses from the past 11 years is also lost to me. This has caused me great anguish and some financial loss. I don' see why they wont let me have this info. Basically AOL has stolen my personal information and is arbritrarely keeping it when they could give it back to me.

AOL offers free and chargeable email service. I have been an AOL customer for over 10 years and recently discovered that they offered a free email service. Since I did not use all the features of the chargeable service I wanted to switch to a free email account.

I attempted several times online to cancel my account but I no longer have the original information that I used to open the account. Without that original information AOL customer service has informed me that I am unable to close my account or cancel my payment, when I asked to speak with a higher level supervisor (after being on the phone for over 20 minutes with the representative) there was no one available for me to speak with and rather was told to contact my bank to get the information they requried.

AOL basically receive $11.99 per month from me for a service I neither use or want. I have provided other information that clearly identifies me as the account holder and have requested to provide any other means to identify who I am to cancel they account they have been unwilling to assist me.

I am paying $11.99 a month for over two years for a service I no longer want and was minimally using to begin with. I do not want to be compensated in arrears except for the past two months in which I have been trying to work with them to cancel this service. Bottom line is I want the account cancelled.

I have been getting charged for over 2 years for an AOL account that was cancelled and that I cannot use (screen name cancelled). 9/07 I reported this and was advised that I would be getting a credit for the monthly charges that were taken out of my account. I waited and did not receive the refund. I called and was disconnected...imagine that!

I now have called again and was advised that they would cancel the account today but that they were not authorized to refund my money (25.90) which they admitted they have been collecting for years. I also have a current account that I pay 9.90 for. My question is this. Can they do that and do I have recourse to make them refund the money on the account that is not active and has not been for three years? Please help....

25.90 for 36 months is a chunk of change... can I get a refund? I am a retired senior on ss and I also support a disabled adult son.

Purchased a Gateway computer last July and received six months free AOL interest services with sale price. Cancelled in Jan. as we left on our annual vacation. Returned home to find charges on my credit card for services rendered when we were not even home.

Now they want $103 dollars for four months service. Refereed matter to Gateway ( No help) and have left it in the hands of the Washington State Attorney Generals Office.

Collection calls daily from AOL

This relates to an AOL account belonging to my wife. Well over a year ago, she cancelled her AOL account. Apparently, they continued to charge our bank for services that she neither wanted nor used. Now, because the bank card used to charge the fees was lost and the card number changed, AOL is claiming that we owe them for the last 3 months at least, even though the account, to the best of our knowledge, was closed.

AOL has reported us to a collection agency for the recovery of what they are charging us. At $20.00 a month for over a year (probably closer to 2 years), AOL has collected easily $300.00 in funds that they were not entitled to.

I've tried repeatedly over the last 2 years to cancel an AOL account. They kept charging my credit card and refused to canel the account. When I finally changed credit card companies they sent my account to collections. They even admitted that the account had not been used or accessed in years, but continued to refuse to cancel my account becasue I didn't know my mother's middle name. Well of course I knew it they just had it wrong!

Over two years of 25 dollars a month for a service I no longer wanted or used.

On Sept. 8, I canceled my AOL account. I also canceled the premium account I had with them. On the 10th 25.90 and 4.95 were taken out of my bank account. I have called about 6 times trying to get a refund. Today, October 2, 2009, I was told since I cancelled on the start of my billing cycle the 8th, I would be charged for the month of September.

According to AOL ,if you don't cancel on the right date, you have to pay for a month's service. What kind of business practice is that? Also, the service rep. tried to get me to stay with AOL for 11.99. Despite lawsuits and fines, AOL continues to make cancelling very difficult.

I am out $30.95. I fear unless I cancel my card, AOL will continue to take money out. Then AOL will send the account to a collection agency.

I called AOL on August 6th or 7th to cancel my account because there was supposed to be a 90 day free trial but, I was billed after only 2 months. The woman I spoke with assured me that the account was closed and that I owed nothing, several times I asked her if she was sure everything was taken care of and her answer was yes. I was given two confirmation numbers, one for the account being closed and the other comfirming I owed them nothing. Because of them trying to get a payment early, the money was not in my wifes account therefor she was charged $25.00 insuficient fund fee by the bank.

Even after the account was supposidly closed and I owed them nothing, they again tried to get money out of my wifes account on 8/12/08,8/25/08 & 9/3/08 . The bank charged a nonsufficient funds fee of $35.00 for each of these attempts. As of 9/29/08 my wifes checking account is $133.62 cents overdrawn because of AOL.com. I feel that it is their mess up, they should have to fix it.

My wifes checking account is $133.62 overdrawn because AOL.com continued to try to get money that should not be owed to them. At this very moment we do not have the money to put in the account to cover it so it will probably go to collections.

I took the free trial route and after 2 years ( I cancelled in plenty of time) I have never received my money back adn they charged me two times, now $50 might not seem like much to some people, but for me I sure could use that money, they promised and promised that they would refund the money, but it would take time, 2 years is long enough I would say, I am sorry to say that I finally just decided to forget it, what a bunch of losers at AOL, what a rip off

I did become overdrawn when AOL went ahead and took the second payment out of my account, its' sad, but that is how little money I have to play around with, I only kept that account open so that they could reimburse me, but that has never happened

I had AOL approximately 10 days and upon cancellation my balance was $0. For the last 2 months I have been receiving collection notices for 25.98 and when I call no one can tell me what it is from or even resolve it. They are messing up hard working citizen's backgrounds.

Possible blemish on my credit for no reason.

I was called in Feb 2006 when my year contract with AOL was up. A woman asked if I would like to renew my service agreement. I said no cancell my service I am no longer using AOL. She stated it was all taken care of, said thank you, and the call ended. Now in ept of 2008, I am still being bill automatically from my bank account. I am currently on hold with them now. I was told again that they would cancel my service but would not refund me my money!

basically AOL has been stealing from me and my family for almost 2 years now! I am under the impression that the supervisor is not going to answer my call, the person Robert that I spoke to said no refund would be given, what am I going to do? My bank account has been robbed by them every month, and thats ok? I dont believe that it was cancelled now, because I was told it was cancelled and taken care of Feb 2006. How can I get my refund! I am just like every other working mom in america who is struggling to make ends meet. I cannot afford AOL's thiefery!

I am estimating at $24.90 a month for the last almost 2 years that Aol roughly owes me $522.90. Plus all the bank fees for overdrafts that AOL has caused by taking money from my account without my authorization!

Type up a comment and the system wont take it as there is a problem some place. What is this. U tube wont play after much messing with the down load. What is the reason I stay with AOL. I dont have any.

Mental Anguish

After we sold our house in 2003, I called AOL many times (I am talking about 4-5 times) and asked to cancel my account in the anticipation of move. AOL was extremely difficult saying we do not want to loose the customer, hanging up, passing me onto another save team. I have a feeling that despite my many attempts to cancel they did not do it. Since then we never used AOL.

Now in 2008 I got a call from AOL saying that I have a balance for 2004 of $60. I have not heard from them until now, and they are refusing to confirm that I cancelled the account. I think this practice is unacceptable. Please assist.

Once again, I cancelled AOL (did this for the THIRD TIME on 7-11-08) and once again, they took money out of my account. When will there be a CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST AOL? If I were a small business and took it upon myself to take money from a FORMER customers account for services that hadn't been rendered in years, I would be in JAIL right now fighting a FRAUD FELONY! This has to stop!

Also, are these UNAUTHORIZED monies being noted in the bottom line profits of AOL? Paying for services NOT RENDERED!

I ONCE had an AOL account. I cancelled. AOL has been deducting from our checking account every month. I didn't know this until a few months ago because my husband (who has become incompetent) didn't notice it in our statements. I have tried NUMEROUS times to call or e-mail AOL to get this stopped, and to get a refund. We have been paying $32.90 a month. We are of very limited income. Please help.

We have lost hundreds of dollars, and this has caused increased poverty and stress.

I called to cancel my membership with AOL in March 2008. I had a very difficult time getting thru all the automated lines, but was finally able to speak with an actual person after 20 minutes. Unfortunately, her accent was very difficult to follow and I had to repeatedly ask her to repeat her questions. I could hear her hitting computer keys, and naturally assumed the information was completed and she assured me the cancellation was complete.

I received a notice that they were unable to process payment, but I had changed my method of payment, just before cancellation due to a lost card and explained that to the female I spoke with and that was partially why I was cancelling. Now, however, they have turned it over to a collection agency for more than $39 and it is on my credit report as a deliquent account. It is not deliquent if it was cancelled. I am now applying for a loan and this needs some resolution.

I could of course just pay the darn thing, it's just the principle of the matter. I've emailed them to no avail, in fact the collection letter I got came shortly after the email. I have tried to call their 888 # but again, the wait of going thru their automation, I finally just hung up, feeling it would be useless, since in all probability would just be another foreign speaking person, who I wouldn't be able to understand or who would be able to understand me.

Why should I have to pay for the inadequancy of their staff? Could you give me some direction in how to handle this matter? Thank you in advance for any assistance you can in this matter. Now on my credit report.

I used my credit card several years ago to set up a AOL internet account for my daughter and grand children. My daughter moved and no longer had access to her computer. I found out the account had not been accessed for well over a year. I was upset with my daughter because I was being billed for a service that was not being used. I tried to contact AOL to discontinue the service and I kept running into dead ends. I don't know the user name or password for the account. I went online and I found many others were having simular problems. I finally found a number to call but after being on hold for a half hour I gave up in frustration. I went to my bank and explained my situation. My bank agreed to stop payment on that account.

On March 20, 2008, I received a urgent bill from AOL for $25.90. I was threatened with collections if I didn't pay. This was the only correspondence I ever received from AOL in all these years. On March 30, 2008 I sent response. On April 07, 2008 I called a customer rep. I asked why AOL made it so difficult to discontinue their service and I was told it was for the customers security. I wanted to know if the issue was resolved. I was told to put my issue in writing and send it to the address I was given. I told him that had been done. I was told I would be contacted in two or three weeks with an answer.

I never heard back from AOL, however, on August 8, 2008 I received a collection letter from Alliedinterstate demanding payment. AOL is far from being consumer friendly and they are unfair. I paid them for many, many months while not using their service. Now they want to beat me up for $25.90. Please help. Thank You

AOL is sending me to collections which could affect my credit.

When I first set-up service for internet I was having trouble with my current service due to weather and no service and not realizing what was going on I signed up with [AOL]. After a week with special free service for 90 days trial, I cancelled the service around June 25th, 2008 and also emailed a second time and had to call again a few days ago. Furthermore, [they] have debit my account twice on a free trial service for $25.90 x 2 = $51.80. This is an unauthorized transaction and should not have happened.

When I emailed and phoned the first two times I thought the matter was settled and threw away the reference number given, but I should not have to go through this poor customer service. Please credit my account for the monies due.

Today, I was on a three way call with my bank, and representative Kim, kept changing her answers after the questions asked and making excuses for the charges. My bank representative has made notations on my account regarding this matter.

My wife and I cancelled our AOL back in the Spring of 2004. I noticed this week that they were still charging my account and that they increased the amount that they were charging me from $3.95 a month to $9.99 a month. We have not used the service since then and had a terrible time trying to cancel our account again over the phone which they (AOL) of course said we never cancelled.

These unauthorized charges and increases are theft. We have been trying to pay off our credit cards and the theft of several hundred dollars of my money and the additional credit card interest on that money is an offense to me. I plan to inform my credit card company that my card has been fraudulently charged by AOL.

aol impossible to cancel. Cant find a cancellation area online and cannot get a live human thru their customer service number. Also, I was one of the millions who were double billed about five years ago.

What a hasstle that was... both in time and money

I switched to free AOL. They have cancelled my accout for evidently sexualy explicit whatever. However, they did not delete my profile. I've called them twice to at lease demolish my profile. however they have done nothing. I have lost all of my prior contacts including work contacts. But, yet a person can show my pics that I can not delete.

AOL raised my rate for a new servide that I did not order.

I have had the same E-mail address for serveral years but I will gladly candel AOL if the refuse to return to my old rate.

I cancelled my aol service over a year ago & just realized they have still been charging me a monthly fee of $11.99/month.

I want a refund, this is money I need badly.

Got free trial in January of 2008 and decided not to use so I called to cancel within 30 day trial period. Account never got cancelled. I called back in June of this year to cancel again after I was advised by my bank that they were still drafting for alleged service that I never used.

Just 3 weeks ago I found that cancellation still had not occurred so I called again and this time was advised that their system was down so they could not do anything. Followed up today and have spoken with three customer service reps and two supervisors who accused me of lying and that they have no documentation that I called previously to cancel account. I have been billed $25.99 since January of 2008 for an account that I have not used once!!

With the drafts to my account every month this cause a coulple of my checks to be returned. Fortunately I have overdraft on my account, but was still required to pay fees.

I called in June of 07 to recancel an AIM account. Told at the time it was cancelled, CSR person gave me a cancellation #. Thought it was cancelled, come to find out a year later it was not. Tried to cancel as well as get my money back for the past year. Heard the CSR's speech (which was spouting company policy), asked for supervisor who was nice but would not issue a refund.

Asked to speak to his supervisor but he refused. He kept spouting the policy to which he added that his supervisor would tell me the same thing. So how do I get my money back? Any suggestions. BTW-he terminated my call when I became angry because he did not want to give me any help and kept quoting company line.

Out about $100 for the past year but this actually has been ongoing for about 3 years

I had begun disputing an AOL charge back in February for $24.95 and had had difficulty canceling a service that had been activited by children 3 years prior. I could not get AOL to respond to my request so I informed my credit card company that this was not approved by me. The credit card company denied payment to AOL. As a result, AOL sent an urgent demand for payment for the $24.95.

I received a call requesting payment from a call center outside of the United States. I spoke with supervisor Myra Anderson who would not help with removal of the charge. I then called and was disconnected. I finally spoke to Sandra Jongte regarding the situation. She understood but had no authority to remove this charge. She then placed a woman that called herself supervisor Susan Dunn on the phone. Susan spent 20 minutes understanding the situation then said she needed to speak to my husband because his name was on the account. After a distressed morning, I found that I had accomplished nothing!

I am extremely aggravated and determined to never say a nice thing about AOL again.

I have been trying to cancel my America On Line (AOL) account. I have tried via there directions on the internet, via the phone and fax. I am still getting billed.

I am paying for a service that I no longer want.

requested my service to be discontinued everytime I would request termination, they say I was entering the wrong information, but the same account thatthey are automatically drafting the money from every month was the same one I was submitting, lso says my password for the account was incorrect, and they are still drafting the account, the service is for the birds.

We have been trying to cancel AOL for over a year and they are still debiting our checking account. We wrote letters to cancel and yet they refuse to contact us to resolve this. We want our money back from all the months since we first cancelled service with them.

It is a terrible financial loss to us and it has caused other bills to not be paid and fees from the bank have been added to our checking account. The bank says they can't stop AOL either which is crazy. No one knows how to stop them.

Can I be insulted anymore by the news AOL puts on their site? If they stopped the guessing game, would anyone visit the site? Are we this dumb? When does it stop? I will surround myself with people who use their intellect and big brains from now on. People who read. Know how to read. I will never do this again. I will turn the computer off and Read.

I will benefit from turning off the computer and actually conversing with human beings.

I moved from my residence in South Gate and tried cancelling my AOL numerous times but everytime I searched for a phone number or some other contact online I was unsuccessful. At one point I emailed an email that was under AOL Help and it was for an adult website. I also tried sending an email to tech support and never received a response. AOL has been taking money from my account for over 1 year (since I moved) and has made it completely impossible to cancel.

The company has been withdrawing over $30 per month and has significantly affected my monthly budget. I would like to receive a refund for all the money that was taken from my account while my AOL was inactive. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

We have AOL internet service that my husband and I have been paying for, at least 1 1/2 to 2 years. This is billed through our phone service that cost $16.95 per month. Our son picked up a free disc in order to have internet on his computer. Our son is a soldier who had to go overseas to Iraq. He called AOL and spoke to someone and said he wanted to cancel his part (using the disc) because he was not going to be in the states. He was told it was cancelled. Unknowingly to him, AOL did not cancel his service.

After our son realized what was happening, he called AOL and was told that if it had been cancelled they would have sent a letter to him as well as it would be noted in the computer. He asked for them to send a copy of the letter that they said they sent (which he did not receive). He was then told they knew nothing of a letter nor was it in the computer as being cancelled. Another thing I do not understand is how can AOL charge both my husband and I as well as our son for the same service on the same phone number. Our son who is a veteran was fighting a war during this time. Our son was being charged $30.00 and we were charged $16.95 for the same service.

Our son's bank account was being charged by AOL $30.00 a month for 2 years. That equals to $720.00 they took out of his account. This cost him to have insufficient funds which in turn cost him alot more that the $720.00 he had already lost. He also had to pay for anything that had bounced as well as all NSF fees.

I canceled AOL REPEATEDLY and they are continuing to take money from my account every month. I can't seem to stop AOL from taking money from my account. When I call AOL they say that the account is canceled and they have no record of moneys coming from me to them.

The economic damage is paying for something that I don't have. I haven't had a computer in my house for over 1 year!

After 16 years they canceled my services for no reason.

It has ended my internet service and caused me to get another provider.

I was an American Online subscriber and cancelled my account in March 2006. In August 2006 AOL contacted me with free offers, and I turned them down, since I was using NetZero for internet service. They charged my credit card $1 (credit check) in August 2006 and kept my account open anyway. No monthly charges were incurred until March of 2008 and April 2008 was not charged, then I was charged in May of 2008.

I do not have or use their service. I did not authorize this. They fraudulently charged my credit card out of the blue almost 2 years after cancelling their service. I think this is very bad business etiquette, and consider it a crime to be able to charge my credit card without my knowledge or so much as a phone call to solicite their product.

AOL has been trying to extort money from customers by using devious tactics. I switched from pay to free service. Everything was fine and then I needed a CD for 9.0 upgrade which I had asked for while still a paying member. They told me I had to take out a contract for service in order to get the CD and it didn't matter that I had requested it while still a paying member. So I took out a month of service and then cancelled before the due date.

My AOL service was frozen and in order to have it restored I had to get back the membership in for technical support. They also deleted all my information in my file cabinet. I now have the tech support service and am terrified to cancel again for fear of what else they might do to force me into giving them $10 a month. I don't need this service. I have AOL through Road Runner and get free tech support there. AOL is saying they are free but when you try to use them, they force you to buy a $10 a month tech support contract or they will stop you from using them..this is illegal. I don't know where to turn to but I bet I am not the only victim here.

$10 a month, loss of time, lose of valuable information and I am sure I am not the only one.

I used to have an account with AOL when I owned my flat. This was cancelled when I sold the flat and I thought the service terminated. I now work oversea's and my post goes to my mothers address, hense noticed fairly late in the day that one of my credit card bills had a subscription to AOL broadband? I only ever had a dial up connection when I was with them so it was news to me that I now had a subscription on my credit card with them? I did used to pay for my dial up connection with my MC but changed cards. I contacted mastercard and have sent them a statement saying the charge is false but they require that I contact them with a policy number and confirm AOL's end termination of the service.

I don't have a policy number as I never asked or had AOL broadband, or have any paper work, and I seem utterly unable to contact AOL in order to try and sort this out. I'm curretnly oversea's now and my only comms with the outside work is the internet. What can I do in order to stop AOL from charging me and how can I get my money back. Mastercard say they can only look back 3 months, and I don't have access to my files to see how far back this goes?

High blood pressure....

I have tried all morning to cancel my AOL Internet Service and for some reason cannot.

It is automatically coming out of my checking or Visa account and I want to stop before they deduct again

I conceled my account Sep. 2007 and they are still billing me.

$233.10 they owe me.

I had problems connecting with the internet. I called Technical support a couple of times to fix my connectivity, but they didn't know how to fix it. I waited for a week to be connected and they didn't do anything to fix my connectivity problem. I got tired waiting and I cancelled my service. When I tried to cancel my service they put me on hold for 8 minutes and I end up hanging up and calling again. When I called the second time and talked to one of the representative to cancel my service they put me on hold again and they hang up on me.

I called the third time to cancel my service they transfer me to different departments, I had to wait another 6 minutes waiting for someone to assist me until finally I got the chance to talked to somebody and I cancelled my service. I also requested them to refund me the week I didnt used the internet and they told me they cant do that because that was my responsibility. I think AOL LLC likes to rip off peoples money. If I didnt use my internet connection for a week, its AOL responsibility to refund me that money.

Lost my broadband connection in February, 2008, spoke to various engineers around most of the continents for two hours on three occasions, also had an IT expert speak to them, tried to cancel my contract even htough it was ending as AOL could not reconnect me.

Canceled after contract finished, AOL took further payments from my bank after cancellation. Had very heated discussions with them as they were taking money from my account beyond cancellation date. This has also happened to two of my friends at about the same time, disgusting, will never use AOL again. I was paying for a service that they could not supply.

LOTS OF HASSLE AND TIME

My wife and I are a American couple living in Germany since Oct 2003, On 12 August 2005 we contacted AOL to cancel our account since we have a hard time acessing and using the account here, and wanted it closed, it was being billed thru a secondary account we have back in the states, Apparently the CSR gave us a month of 'FREE SERVICE' which did not close the account, We have never received a billing statement of any type thru AOL, Again in early 2007 we again contacted AOL to cancel the account, Which they did not do,

Again in May of this year we contacted AOL to cancel the account and we wanted a refund for each and every month the account was not accessed. Aol states the account was accessed as of 04 March 2007, Which is nonsense as neither my wife or I had the account screenname or password, It was the last time we tried to cancel it, at which time AOL accessed it. We have filed a complaint thru the Better Business Bureau and at this time have the account closed 'Hopefully' AOL thought that 68.40 was fair compensation, Which is what they stated in the 2 reponses they have sent to the BBB, No further compensation is warranted, the exact words.

I am writing this after receiving the second response i received from AOL thru the BBB, I have filed a complaint thru the Federal Trade Commission also, I think that one was a waste of typing, I had requested a log of session activity from AOL, They want a notarized request that states the request, 'which waives any and all rights to claims and compensation I may have as a result of AOL releasing such information' My question is, Is there a Class Action Suit being started against AOL?

Emotional stress and international long distance phone calls to someone who doesnt speak english

In August of 2006, I got an email that AOL would be free as long as you had a broadband connection. In September of 2006, I called to cancel my account with AOL an they said it would take about a billing cycle for me to see the change. November 2006 still no change. I was going through some hardships, had 2 deaths in less than a year including my mothers so I wasn't looking at my statements until now, still no change. I have been billed $16.95 per month since September 2006 till June 2008.

My financial situation has not been the best especially with the burial expenses. My bank account has even charged me over the limit fees. I would like some type of compensation and AOL is giving me a hard time especially when I have been such a loyal customer.

I had called AOL wishing to cancell my membership in 2006 because I ONLY need to use AIM which is almost like using MSN which is used to chat with whomever is on your list. When I mentioned to the AOL rep that I was cancelling AOL because I didn't want to pay what I believe at the time was about anwhere from $14 to $21 the AOL rep told me that I can have AIM for only $9.95. It sounded like a great deal but since AOL doesn't tell you that AIM is for FREE I ended up paying $9.95 per month for the last 2 years. Upon learning how I was decieved I called AOL and cancelled everything though I can still use AIM as it is FREE.

To sum it up, I paid over $200 for a service that is for free that AOL deceivingly made it seem it was a service that required being paid for while it's a service that is for free. Economically this is an embarrassment and to be honest not surprising of AOL knowing their history of how they screw over customers. I WANT MY MONEY BACK!!!

Our AOL service had disintegrated to the point of only momentary online activity before shutdown or freeze-up during the last three months of service. America Online Customer Service could not be reached before internet interruption. Could not upgrade from AOL version 7.0 to version 9.0 because of download failure. Made decision to discontinue service with AOL. Several attempts made to do just that, but we are forwarded to a myriad of AOL Customer Service deparments.

Hard to believe, but we can't seem to end service. Giving up in frustration perhaps several times. Now we're into our third month of absolutely frustrating internet service and pretty much discontinued internet use for months. During my Christmas break I tried to contact AOL Customer Service via E-mail. Moments before I sent my letter of intent to discontinue doing business with AOL, our internet connection is lost and the computer freezes up. Typical. That was the only time anyone in my household had logged on in the month of December. Mind you we have been trying on and off since October to end service. We we're routinely run around on the phone. We finally had to contact the credit card company and stop automatic payment to AOL.

Finally, in January '08 my wife gets the attention of someone in one of the many departments obviously designed to confuse AOL cutomers and she ends our relationship with AOL! They gave us a confirmation to that effect! However, now they want us to pay for another month of service for the forty minutes I was online trying to contact AOL to end service! We had tried to explain all of our frustration and substandard service to AOL but apparently thay are not interested in anything but ripping off their customers to the very end. We have decided not to pay for this last insult, and as a result AOL has decided to send it to collection services. Please Help.

Bill has gone to collection service, and we are concerned that this unfair billing will affect our otherwise hard-earned perfect credit.

I request that AOL stop billing me for an account that was cancelled 10/1/07. I spoke with AOL representative Amanda who cancelled my account and assured me my credit card would no longer be billed. I received a statement dated November 8, 2007 at which time I called again and was told my account was closed. My credit card was then billed for three months in February of 2008. I filed a dispute with my credit card company and was credited the money back. See attached letter. I now have received another statement stating I owe $87.15 and my credit card was charged again. I CANCELLED the service back in October of 2007.

I DO NOT want my credit card being charged again and want the $87.15 to be written off. I no longer use AOL service. If I continue to receive past due statements and if my credit card is charged again I will file a report with the better business bureau and seek legal representation for harassment. It is quite ridiculous that I have to go to such an extent to cancel service that became free. I was a loyal customer for many years and do not appreciate this.

I ENDED UP PAYING AN EXTRA MONTH CHARGE WHEN I FIRST CANCELLED BECAUSE I WAS THREATENED WITH BEING TURNED OVER TO A COLLECTION AGENCY. I NOW JUST GOT ANOTHER LETTER SAYING I OWE $145.25 FOR MONTHLY SERVICE.

i called and told them to cancel my account in October of 2007 i just took a good look at mt account and they are still billing me. i have dsl with bellsouth but are getting money taken out of my account from aol. i want my money back they took from me.

i have had checks bounced because they took money out of my account.

I had my mom call and she told the guy that my account has been closed for 2 years and I had my daughter look at my bank statements and I have been charged 11.95 a month ever since! They said she called 2 months ago and reconnected, he took off 2 months and told her she now has free AOL-again she does not have a computer. They owe her years of monthly charges and said she had to fax over the years in question! My mom has been ill and cannot afford this every month and has not had a computer for 2 years! This is nuts they know she has not used her account, so why charge on a closed account.

My mom is in pre forcloser and this little bill is nothing compared to losing her condo, but as I go through old statements she keeps getting charged each month. They do not want to help and just want money from her account that they have on file. Thanks for your help.

The bottom line is that I cancelled my account in February of 2007 because I no longer wanted AOL services. I keep getting charged on my credit card though! Last year, both my wife and I made several phone calls to AOL, speaking to representatives about the account we cancelled our account in February of 2007, but we were still getting charged on our credit card. AOL representatives were telling us that we were not getting charged and that we did indeed cancel our account. But it kept happening, our bank statements kept showing withdraws from it and we kept calling.

Until I lost my credit card in October of 2007. We did not see any more charges from AOL and we did not realize that it was from our credit card being lost, but thought it was because we talked to one of your representatives and it finally worked. So, AOL could not collect on a lost card, so AOL says that I owe them $103.60 from 10/07 thru 02/08. Now AOL is saying that I am 130 days delinquent and AOL is going to have to send to collections for payment.

The way I see it is AOL owes me $250.90 for charging me for 8 months of membership that I cancelled back in February of 2007. AOL also needs to correct the credit damage that they have caused because AOL did not fully cancel a membership of a member back in February of 2007. Nor did any AOL representatives notify us about another account on the numerous phone calls we made regarding being charged each month when we called regarding being charged for an account we said we closed.

This has been a very big hassle for our family and we cannot believe that a company as big as AOL would do something like this to people. I was double charged for how long? AOL should be sending me a check for $250.90 and clear up the credit damage they have done.

I along with many others have had difficulty cancelling my AOL account. I suggest a class action suit be initiated against AOL for unfair practices.

My service was cancelled by AOL for terms of service violation. I've been a paying member for 8 years, in good standing. On 5-13-08 My son attempted to sign on and was denied, after contacting the number listed(Customer Service) three times and getting disconnected twice. I was informed that I violated terms of service for using the word idiot on an open blog. A blog, that on any given topic contains works deemed vulgar and personally offensive by common accepted standards, however I have never seen the word idiot, in what ever context, considered offensive on a common moral/legal standard.

After several attempts to speak with somebody regarding reinstated my paid account, I was enformed to write a letter to the community standards team, Mesh. Nobody I spoke with could tell me the context of the word, or even the posting in whole, just that the word idiot, and that it was offensive. However, 4 lettered words are common, and the posters continue to post uninhibited. No list exists to specifically identify such words, and no methode of notification, clarification, or response exist. This action was arbitrary, capricious, and without merit. P.S., I do dispute that I may have typed in the word Idiot, however I don't recall the context, and AOL's representative could not say what the post was, or the context it was posted in, only that I used the word idiot. I do dispute that it is a violation, and that the action was arbitrary.

Loss of access to personal documents and records stored on AOL, a paid service. Loss of resources as a reasult of the groundless action. Unable to performs work (in addition son's school work) that is normally done throught this paid service.

I called and cancelled my aol account over a year ago. I am still getting billed $32.90 a month for a service that I don't even use anymore.

Are needlessly taking money out of my account each month.

It is been extremely difficult to cancel the AOL service.

It is true, trying to discontinue AOL is deliberatly difficult.

We've subscribed to AOL for many years but I can't deal w/it anymore. [They] have NO one who monitors the responses to news that [they] print. Because I'm plan- ning a trip to Burma, I was most inter- ested in the devastation it just experi-enced. What do the comments about it say? Read it, [people] are using it to discuss politics. Another person complained of it in that column but [AOL is] unaware of such. [AOL] incompetency forces me to subscribe to a different server.

I cancelled aol subscription 2 years ago after getting verizon dsl service. When Suntrust Bank replaced my credit card in March( Sweetbay supermarket card thefts),I was surprised that AOL wrote for a new billing number. Apparently, they have continued to auto bill us for two years, and my wife who pays that credit card, didn't notice. Now AOL wants$25.90. I dispute this, and AOL owes us TWO YEARS FRAUDULENT AUTO CARD BILLING. It should be primafacia evidence that anyone will DSL service wouldn't any more use AOL.

dollars and aggravation

Back in 2004, I used a CD I received in the mail to try AOL's service. I liked it and continued to use it for a few months. Well, I decided to change banks, go from Telephone Credit Union in OH, to Navy Federal Credit Union, so I switched everything over to Navy Federal and at that time, I found a cheaper email service so I called AOL to cancel my service. At that time, I had approximately $30 in the Telephone Credit Union account. So, I decided that I would leave it there for a rainy day. Well, because I didn't close the Tel. Fed. Cred. Union account, I continued to get my monthly statement (or so I thought). I did not look at the supposed statement because I knew that I cancelled everything. Well, about a year or so later, I decided to actually look at my TCU statement to see how much interest I had accumulated and saw that I had a huge negative balance! I now owed TCU approximately $300! And they came from AOL!

I called AOL to cancel the service again and told them what happened. They said they would and that was the end of it. Well -$661.00 later, I still owe this amount to TCU for AOL charges and overage charges. I've called TCU numerous times trying to get them to at least close the account because those charges were unauthorized, but was told that they could not close the account until the overdue balance was paid. I asked them how is it that the bank will still allow the charges when there isn't any money coming into that account. I was told that someone would call me back. After calling AOL numerous times, they finally stopped charging my account. In the meantime, Telephone Credit Union became Taleris Credit Union. I've called both TCU and AOL numerous times to see what could be done and to no avail. TCU states they've lost money on this so they want me to pay it, I told them that if I pay it, so have I because I didn't even use the service.

This has tremendously affected my credit rating! I've been denied when trying to open a bank account at my current place of employment because of this account as well as I've been denied for credit many other places (over the years) because of this blemish on my credit report. To make it even worse, to pay it now still leaves the mark on my credit report for 7 more years! I don't know what to do.

I called the billing number to cancel an account. When I told them My Mother had passed asway and I needed to close her account they said I had to transfer the account to my name first and then cancel it. I do not want to do that so they refuwed to cancel the account.

First it took me 20 minutes searching the web to find a billing phone numver to call. Then the agent I spoke to (Cole) spoke such poor english that I had to ask to speak to her supervisor. Unfortunately that supervisor (Alvin) was not much easier to understand. I was placed on hold several time and forced to listen to heavy metal rock music which was not pleasant. Then they refused to cancel the account. How can I get help with this? Thank you very much.

I have been notifying them to CANCEL my account since Dec. 2006-2007 and again this month.... via email ... and they are still charging my bank card. My bank (Wells Fargo) won't stop it because they say I initiated it originally. I have emails to substanciate my claim that I've attempted to close my account.

I live outside the US (in the UK) because I have remarried. I can't just pick up the phone and call them (toll free) and no one has given me a US number to call on. They certainly don't answer emails!

I tried to cancel my AOLaccount after signnig up only after 3 weeks. I signed on to the $9.95 month plan and cancelled on line. I had recieved a letter fom AOL confirming my cancellation and no charges were billed. I then recieve a bill for $25.90,in which was rejected by my cedit card. AOL had decided to put me on a $25.90 amonth plan, rejecting there 1 month free trial service and stating I had signed up for there premium plan. Contated a represenative in which I could hardly understand his language, and he defied me and stated i could not cancel on line and my credit card would be billed or sent to a collection agency.

Excesssive stress and cancelled my credit card,in which several personal account are linked for billing for personal monthly bills,in which will cause a delay in payment proccessing.

I cancelled my AOL account in mid February 2008 that was billed through my VERIZON telephone bill and AOL.COM did not cancel the account with VERIZON. I now have a delinquent bill and cannot reach a PERSON to speak with at AOL.COM. I get an automated voice menu system or no response on the internet since my account is closed.

I now have a delinquent telephone bill that was always paid in advance due to the porr billing services of AOL.COM

Today is March 28th. I canceled AOL on 8-1-2006. I just looked at my statement and they're still billing me. I went back over the time frame and find that they missed a month but they've been billing me ever since. Jeffery tells me they stopped billing me in August when I canceled but it's being taken out of my account. He says to send them my account statements for the time frame and he will turn it into there fraud department.

I'm out $32.90 for the last 2 years for something I'm not even getting! I had to go to my bank and pay $12.00 to put a stop on their account!

I called December 18, 2007, to cancel my AOL service; and after going through a lengthy automated system, I was given confirmation #936293618. I thought great! But, oh no, they continue to withdraw funds monthly from my bank account. I tried another phone number, and after 15 minutes they told me my plan did not have phone support of any kind and that I needed to go to the website to figure out how to do it.

They are taking funds out of my bank that I don't have! And my going through there automated system makes me want to throw up. I wish I would have saved my info from the several times before December when I tried to cancel and couldn't get through to anyone.

I have been trying to cancel my aol account since march 12, 2008. I called to cancel that day and understood from the phone rep that they would cancel but that it took some time to process. Then she shifted into asking why and had I called for tech support and what else aol had to offer, ie. a sales pitch quickly evolved and finally I just told her I had no time to listen and hung up. Several days later an email from aol showed up referring to the call as a request for tech support and asking me to fill out a customer satisfaction survey. There was also reference to a cancel.aol.com website to cancel your account. I went to the web site to cancel and none of the options allow you to cancel entirely your contract with them for internet access. I then went to the survey site, ready to give them a piece of my mind. No chance. None of the questions allowed for anything resembling accuracy about my experience with them nor the basic problem I encountered. The only avenue to express dissatisfaction was about the performance of the phone rep, who was only following orders I am sure.

It is costing me Money every day as they continue to charge my credit card for their uncancelable, unwanted service.

My daughter, who is a US Airman, was stationed in the UK from 2003 to 2005. She has been back in the states for three years and we have all been trying to get AOL to quit taking money out of her account. Three Years! We've written letters and emails to AOL, we've written emails and letters to the bank and it's still going on.

The damage is that AOL has taken a lot of money from my daughter who is on a fixed military income for three years.

I have been trying for months now to get my AOL paid account cancelled. There website does not allow you into your account area stating you do not have site permission even though you are signed on. There electronic cancellation link also does not lead anywhere, if you click on it it takes you to a copyright infrigement complaint form. There phone system sends you around in circles and you never get to an operator. Being desperate I downloaded a cancellation form in PDF format, completed it as required and fax it as instructed.

They are continuing to bill my credit card, now 2 months after sending them the fax cancellation I get a postcard in the mail stating YOU ARE STILL A VALUED AOL MEMBER !! and gives me a sting of instructions to follow to cancel if I wanted too. These instruction are exactly what I have done 2 months ago.

I have been trying to cancel my account for about two years, and AOL still takes money out of my bank account each month ($9.94 + $24.95). It adds up. This month we didn't have enough to cover it, and the account bounced, plus the bank charged us $22 for each withdrawal. This i sjust making me sick. We have enough to deal with just keeping our heads above water paying our mortgage and other bills, plus buying food. Please help us. I looked at other complaints of AOL customers, and there must be 100 of them.

HARDSHIP, TO SAY THE LEAST!

I called AOL on March 4, 2008, to ask for my dial up to be canceled. I had been with AOL for at least the last 7 years or so. I finally got DSL/Verizon this month. So I didn't want to be paying for both services. I spoke with a guy named John. I even got a confirmation of the cancellation. Well to my surprise, the next day I get an email from AOL saying they were happy they resolved my customer service issue. I immediately went into my account online and see that they are not canceling my account and that it is due to be charged again next month, April 3, 2008.

So.... I immediately filed a report with the Virginia State Attorney General's office and the BBB. I am determined not to let them continually charge my account. It's very important to contact The Virginia State Attorney General's office. That is the General for the location of the AOL Corporate Office. This is how companies get exposed who are engaging in fraudulent practices, if enough people have legitimate complaints about them. It's great to come onto the message boards and post to get the word out about these companies, but in addition to doing that you have to get the complaint in the hands of those who can stop these companies. If you need the State Attorney General's address: Virginia Office of Consumer Affairs P.O. Box 1163 Richmond, Va 23218. Good Luck

Reading some of these horror stories about how people on limited income were taken advantage of by AOL makes me physically ill. There really needs to be some regulation and consequences for AOL's bad business practices.

I recently had difficulties with my DSL service and called AOL to rectify the situation. I was then informed that we were being billed for a service that was no longer provided. This problem had never been notified to us in the past, and we had been making our monthly payments as usual. We also discovered that we were still being billed for dial-up service, which we had not used in years since we were using the DSL service. We always wondered why we were paying so much for AOL since we never received any statements, and we had automated payments. This time we asked if there was any way to rectify the situation and possibly receive a refund for the services that were paid for but were not being provided. We were told that this could not be done because although the service was not being used or no longer existed, it was still our duty to contact them for cancellation.

Now, if we would have previously been informed of this matter, we would have immediately corrected the situation and would have continued to use AOL as our internet service provider. The issue now is that they will not immediately cancel our service as requested. We were told we would still have to pay for this month, and the service would be canceled by the next billing period. Does this seem fair? No person in their right mind would think so.

I canceled my account with America Online on 11/27/07. I have been billed three times since--twice to my credit card and once to my checking account. This caused overdraft charges on my credit card.

I tried the 6 month free trial service on 11 Aug '07 in Canyon Lake, CA. I was unable to get on line and ultimately had to use T-Mobile to connect. I contacted technical support at AOL and was told to contact my phone service provider. I called on the 12th of Aug. and spoke with a lady who assured me that the service would be canceled, and I would not be billed. I noticed on a week ago that my bank account had been over drawn and was at a negative balance. Turns out that AOL made a withdrawal, and it resulted it another check bouncing. I tracked the charge down and called AOL. I was told by Mark that he showed no record of my canceling the service. I asked him if he showed any activation of the account or usage, and he said there was no record of that. If I order cable and never turn my TV on, I would still have to pay.

At that point I requested his supervisor, and she (Heather) confirmed what Mark had said; and she stated that she REFUSED to refund me the money they had taken, and I was subject to additional charges because I requested she changed my mailing address to IL. This AOL company should be investigated for questionable practices and billing concerns. Shame on me for not keeping the information on who I spoke with in Aug. I threw it away after Christmas because I felt secure that it had been resolved. They are rude and unprofessional, and I will never, not ever, deal with them again.

I have been debited $68.00 plus the $25 for AOL because of over draft fees and a bounced check. I have been upset by this, and I am a disabled veteran who thought I was dealing with an honest company. I never called AOL with anything except the facts. I did agree to the service, and I did give them my credit card. I never used the service (never could), and I did cancel the service the next day (OR SO I THOUGHT). I feel that if they can confirm that I never used it, and I called upon my first discovery that I was being charged, that they should return my MONEY. They should not threaten to bill me further because I never got this cancellation letter or asked them to ensure they had the correct mailing address.

I canceled my account on 12/20/06 with AOL. I received a letter confirming the account had been closed including confirmation number. One year and later, they continued to charge me since they still had my bank account number. The bank could not stop payment coming through my account. I tried calling the company several times and talked to machine after machine. Got lucky and talked to a representative about the problem; she said the account had been closed but did not know about the charges. She asked me to send her a copy of the letter I received and copies of banking statements showing the charges. I sent them, and the charged continued without hearing from the company.

After several months I again tried contacting them. I talked to three different people--all not knowing anything about the problem. One of the representatives told me that she could not credit me for the charges and needed to send her again copies of the banking statements. She said that account was closed and that there would be not further charges because that account was closed. I told her I knew the account was closed because I had the cancel confirmation number. Yet the charges continued. I told her I would send the banking statements to them again, but I wanted a name and number of a supervisor who I could call and check to see that it was being taken care of. She refused and said they were not allowed to do that. She checked on her computer and found an old account back in 2002 that I had with them which was closed but owed $57 dollars on. I told her I had received their bill not too long ago and told her that I had relocated and had forgotten to close the account. She then told me that I could forget sending her my bank statement because I owed them money, and she would not give me credit. One account has nothing to do with the other I told her. She said that there would not be any more charges made to that account.

I asked about the charges AOL made that total over $300? "Just be assured that there won't be anymore," she said. I then asked for a supervisor. So I got Mike who I guess didn't have a last name because he would not give it to me. Also, he said that there would not be anymore charges. "Fine," I told him, "but you owe me over $300". Here is the best part. He said "You owe us $57; I will go ahead and forget that charge, and be assured you will not be charged again." So AOL owes me over $300--but they will forget about the $57 if I forget about the $300? He said, "You won't be charged again," and right after that I lost contact with them. Whether they hung up or we were disconnected, I am not sure. I did go to the bank and close that account and had to call all the companies that get paid through that account just to stop them. To be honest, at the time I had ATT and thought that maybe AOL was part of those charges. When I realized that it was not, it was over $200. Getting the run around by AOL, the charges went up to over $300. That is where we are now.

Besides canceling my credit card account and all the work involved with that, this has been a major headache trying to deal with AOL.

I initially called on 1 Feb 2008 to cancel AOL services. Then I went on-line and performed the cancellation as suggested by the operator. Today, 1 March 2008, I checked my account and it was debited $25.95 for AOL services. I called again to cancel and to receive a refund of the misappropriated funds, and Issac (no last name given) stated that there was no record of my cancellation attempt, but he would cancel the account and gave me a cancellation number.

I want to verify that the account was indeed closed and if possible to receive my money back - $25.95, as I am on a fixed income, and every penny has been accounted for in my budget--no money to arbitrarily throw away. Thank you.

When my husband Francis died, I canceled his AOL account. I recently realized that for the last 3 years, AOL has been billing me for an account they closed in March 2005. When I contacted them, they agreed with me it was THEIR mistake. However, I have not received any forms or rebate on the $14.95 per month charge (had a senior rate) for over three years.

My AOL account was over charged by more than $538.00 for an account that was closed.

I called AOL to cancel my service. I'm still not sure that it was canceled as I was so angry after 9 minutes on the phone, I hung up. I called on 2/28/08 and finally got a live person that kept saying "you have been with us for 8 years and 11 months lets see what I can do for you".

I kept telling her to cancel my service immediately. This went on for 6 minutes. Then she tells me I will cancel your service as of March 5th, I said no you are going to cancel it now and refund 6 days of service. After repeating myself over and over all she wanted to do was to see what see could do for me. I wanted her to do, she would not do.

I was charged $51.80 on my visa. I called to have it refunded because the account was not mine.

I was told, by a person with an accent when I asked to speak with a supervisor, that if I wanted to speak to an American I should call back and he hung up on me! I called back and without even knowing anything the CSR was rude by tone alone. So, I asked to speak to her supervisor who called me rude and told me several times to shut up. She stated I was ignorant.

When I asked for a complaint department, she refused to give me the number. I asked for her customer service ID, she refused to give me that. Then being so upset I told her that I didn't want my card charged anymore and that I would go through my card company to have it refunded. She told me I was a liar and that because I wanted this account canceled to prevent further charges, she now had it documented and I cannot submit a fraud claim.

THEN, she read some statement about canceling the account and that AOl would love for me to come back as a customer!!

They refuse to cancel my service and keep charging my checking account. They have bullied us on the phone and keep sending a bill for $19.95, even though I canceled last year!

If I had an address or phone number for Aol I would give it, but I do not. I have been trying for over 1 year to find a way to cancel the Aol Internet service, and there is no place on the search to find out how to cancel! Please, tell me how to cancel AOL service. On the AOL welcome page there is a help on the toolbar; it has AOL account billing which takes you nowhere.

AOL internet service is slow, cuts you off while on-line, and performs extremely poorly.

AOL HAS BEEN DEDUCTING $32.90 AUTOMATICALLY FROM MY CHECKING, AND I AM UNABLE TO CANCEL THIS SERVICE AND OBTAIN CHEAPER SERVICE WITH AT&T WHICH CHARGES $19.90 PER MONTH FOR DSL & DIAL UP INTERNET SERVICE. I HAVE SPENT DAYS, HOURS SEARCHING FOR A PHONE NUMBER TO CANCEL AOL.

I canceled my AOL account several years ago, and TWO MONTHLY CHARGES ARE STILL BEING DEDUCTED FROM MY ACCOUNT. I have not used AOL in years. I do not even remember my login or passwords. I should be paid over $1000.00 reimbursement from AOL.

For the past year Aol Service, has been billing my Credit Card I've canceled my credit card 4 times. I put blocks on the Aol from charging me with the credit card company. I have taken many steps with the credit card company as well to take care of it. Dealing with all their fraud departments and supervisors. Yet still every month a $9.95 fee shows up. I've had Aol once in my like like 3 years ago. I did not even sign up with this credit card though.

My wife uses an undisclosed distribution list to send emails to her friends. Our emails are for personal use only; we don't use them for advertising or any related business need. AOL threatens to block my service provider using the excuse that someone is complaining about SPAM. AOL does not give us any information about who complains, even though they would have to have that information if true. We have communicated with everyone on the list with an AOL address and none know what is happening. It is our belief that AOL is using the SPAM complaint as an excuse to threaten us in disclosing the distribution list so they can send SPAM and send junk mail out.

My service provider, tulalipbroadband.net, won't or can't fight AOL, and we are going to be canceled.

We switched from AOL to Time-Warner DSL cable. Time-Warner said that since AOL was a part of their company, we should not be billed separately by AOL and that I needed to contact AOL. We are still being billed separately by AOL. I have double billings on my credit card every month. I have repeatedly tried to contact AOL to resolve this problem, with NO LUCK.

This causes us to have charges on our credit card of $50.00 each month that SHOULD NOT be on the card.

In May 2007, I canceled AOL DSL service when they were unable to repair it (stopped working). I changed to a free AOL account then and got a Comcast account. The AOL billing continued in June, and I was unable to cancel via the 800 number. The representatives kept telling me that I owed them nothing and that my account was a free email account. This continued through December, and I could not find a way to make them stop. I finally disputed through my credit card company, but the billings STILL continued. I finally canceled the card and got a new one. Now in Jan. '08, they are threatening to turn the debt over to a collection agency. The billing was for dial-up, which I never ordered. Their claim was that it was started under another screen name.

They have billed me for $25.90 each month, and I'm not sure how long ago it began. I suspect that they were billing me for the DSL service and dial-up at the same time, but I did not detect it due to confusion over billing cycles. The $25.90 charge may have been made over several years, and I will have to research my bills to determine how long it has been going on. If the debt is turned over to a collection agency, this could affect my credit score and will cost me additional expenses in the future.

I have been trying to cancel my account for a year now. I am getting the run around; I write where I am supposed to and am still getting billed.

Money is withdrawn from my account when I am not expecting, and this has caused overdrafts and charges.

I have been trying to cancel my AOL Internet Service, and I cannot find any way to do so. We have a new service, and I need to get this bill off of my credit card. I have tried every way and every number I can call to try to cancel this account.

I have a limited income, and I cannot afford to pay for a service that I do not find satisfactory.

I attempt monthly to discontinue services, but only automatic help is available and they continue to bill me monthly for 1 year. This is taken from my checking account.

I had been a subscriber of AOL for over 10 years. After experiencing problems with their DSL service that no one could resolve, I terminated my service on 8/9/07. It was very difficult to cancel the AOL service, but finally I was allowed to do so and was given a confirmation number. I was on an annual prepaid plan and was told that within 7 to 10 days, I would receive a credit on my card for $179.55, which represented the unused part of my annual charge.

However, the credit never showed up on my credit card. Instead, I got a form in the mail from AOL, dated 8/15/07, thanking me for reinstating AOL service on 8/9/07, the day I canceled. The back of the form allowed me to inform AOL that this was a mistake on their part and that I did not want to reinstate the service. I faxed the form back to AOL. When the credit for $179.55 did not appear on my VISA at the end of the month, I called the bank.

The bank issued me a credit but informed me that if AOL contested the credit, it would have to go into a dispute resolution process. AOL never challenged so I thought the matter was over, until I got a letter from a collection agency on 1/12/08 indicating that I owed $179.55 to AOL.

I spoke to a number of individuals, including supervisors that all indicated I was owed the $179.55 for the unused portion of the year, but that I did not follow the proper channels in having the $179.55 credited to my VISA account. According to the supervisor, the process takes two months, and I should have waited this long before filling a dispute with Chase. I was told to resolve this matter now, I would have to pay AOL the $179.55, and that this amount would then be credited to me. I refused to do so.

I had canceled my account, but they have no record of it and took 3 payments of 15.99 pounds: the 1st one on 01-01-08 and 2 payments on 02-01-08. I talked to my bank, and they were no help. I phoned AOL, and they said my account was still active based on an old debit card number that was canceled; and through this they still took payment. When I phoned they didn't have any record of my address, etc., but they just had old card information. Since they said I had failed to cancel it (i.e. they had no records of the cancellation), it was all my fault even though I was dully diligent in phoning to cancel.

As a Result of this I am very stressed and have next to no money to pay my bills. This affects my credit rating. Also, were it not for the generosity from those close to me, I would have barely been able to eat or have heating and lighting. I need a warm house at this time of year, too; I have back and hip problems that affect my joints.

After 3 requests over 4 years to have my service discontinued , and assured that it was, has cost a very disabled woman, who depends on the church for support and survival, was cheated and lied to. She can't even buy food. The charges continue to be debited even afte reassurmnet that a reimbursement would be credited to her ch acct. or a check in the mail over 2 yrs ago.

I am very upset at AOL. They made it very easy to start my account but when I tried to cancel it they kept giving me the run around. First I followed the instructions on how to cancel and then I am at some screen about how to upgrade my account. I can never seem to get in where I need to in order to stop payment from my banking account. Is there anyway to make them (aol) pay their customers in a law suite for all the practices that they have even when they have been ordered to stop these type of practices?

It is costing me money every month that I do not have anymore, And besides that, this is the worst service I have ever seen in my life.

I have canceled my AOL service for over 6 months, and I am still being charged. Check my account and phone number. I have not used it. I thought It had been canceled, but I recently noticed my bank statement and have been charged every month. My number has been disconnected, and I no longer live at the address. AOL has been charging me for a service that I canceled and haven't used.

I would like it stopped immediately, and I'd like my money back--that taken from my bank account. AOL has taken advantage of me and my bank account.

I had AOL for a brief time in 2005, when it was time to cancel, I could NEVER get through. When I finally did, I got a letter in the mail with my confirmation #. I thought I was done with them. Eleven months later, on a fluke, I happened to check one of my bank accounts (it was used only for my life insurance drafts, and had no reason to check it on a monthly basis) and discovered that I had been charged every mo. for AOL fee. I called them immediately and was told they had no record of my cancellation. I found the letter from them and called them on 10-31-07 and was told by the agent that I would get a refund of $239.00. After 2 or 3 weeks I saw no refund , and was then told that the refund was denied because they can only go back in the records 6 months. As of this date (12-27-07) I have yet to be reimbursed!

I gave them 1 more opportunity to have my business; I got the free AOL, with my new computer; I activated the service on 10-11-07 then canceled on 10-13-07. At the time of cancellation I was told they don't give out confirmation #'s because that was no longer the procedure. After much pressing to the agent, I was given a #, obviously a bogus one at that. On 12-26 I noticed that my bank acct. balance was off; I contacted my bank and was told that AOL had taken monies from me again! This organization, in my opinion, is a total rip off and should be shut down! I know that I am not the only consumer that they have ripped off, and would like to see them pay EVERYONE back, every penny, plus damages!

I am currently behind on my house payment and had just enough money in my acct. to cover my mortgage payment. Since AOL has debited my acct, my mortgage payment has been returned unpaid, leaving me with additional fees that I simply cannot afford. They should be held accountable to the fullest extent of the law!!

I've been paying $6.95 a month for email services which had been free since 9/06. AOL never notified me that email service became free and now will not refund my money. They said I was paying for internet connection, which they knew I was getting from AT&T dsl, when they changed my fee from $23.95 a month to $6.95. I'd say they owe me $104.25. They won't pay.

I tried to cancel AOL internet service several times, and all of the AOL representatives told me the same thing: "I assure you that your account will be canceled." I was double-billed three different times in 2005. They flat out lied to me when I asked them to cancel my account. I refused to pay it, and it went on my credit report as overdue.

This cost me $200 in payments that I shouldn't have had to make. I ended up having to pay the amount that I didn't owe; that affected my credit, too.

I had heard rumors about the cancellation horrors of AOL internet service. They are all true! Even after the lawsuits.

Multiple forms walk you through the cancellation process only to end up back where you began without a way to cancel.

Used live help - they could not assist me only gave a toll free number to use to cancel.

If you can sign up on line why can't you cancel on line??? What a scam! Are there any other alternatives others may have used to quit AOL? Help!

I thought I had cancelled twice by internet with a notice that we will cancel this service within 72 hours, yet still is not cancelled. It is costing 25.90/month and being billed directly to my credit card. The credit card even has an outdated expiration date (according to their records) yet they continue to bill it. I am calling my credit card company to refuse these charges but they should not have the responsibility to do so if I have done my part!

I called AOL in January, 2006 to cancel my service. I was told that I needed to submit the request in writing and when they received it, my service would be terminated within 72 hours. I mailed the letter on 2/17/06. I assumed the termination took place.

When I checked my bank statement in June, I noticed that I was still being charged for AOL. I called them and was assured that I would not be charged any more. I called my bank and told them to not honor any more charges from AOL.

I recently checked my bank statement and noticed that I am still being charged!

This is to alert your readers that difficult to cancel and double billing scams are being used by AOL in the UK through a billing affiliate based in Luxembourg. I have canceled the service on several occasions dating back to 1999 when my use stopped. The last time, I canceled, I did this on-line through the AOL system in 2003. I have the cancelation code from that date which AOL does not recognize. I have been double billed for a service which I do not use dating back to this 2003 date. Since that time, I have written to PO Box Numbers to no avail. AOL does not properly identify itself. I have instructed my bank not to make payments but AOL finds another way of billing. On two occasions I have closed my accounts, debit and credit cards and re-opened new accounts with the same institution. AOL has found a way to extract money from these new accounts. I am told that AOL bills dead customers in the UK for as long as they can get access to accounts or for four years.

AOL have taken funds from my account to which they are not entitled. The amount fraudulently collected is in excess of $2000. My bank now has to manually do a cat and mouse dance each month to reverse transactions which re-appear soon after reversal.

I've complained to AOL until I'm weary of messing with them. I've been on AOL for over ten years. Using AOL is like going back to dial-up. I'm thinking seriously about canceling my AOL subscription.

I signed up for AOL services and immediately cancelled them. They deducted 52.80 from my checking account in July of 2007. When I had an online chat, I was told that it would be a couple of months before I get it back. At that time, I was told that they did not have a phone number for the corporate office, but gave me an address, which I wrote to requesting the money back. It is now four months later, and I still have not heard from them or received the money back that they deducted from my checking account.

I live paycheck to paycheck, and cannot afford even that amount to be deducted. I know that it can seem like a small amount to some, but because I had only about $100.00 in my account, it left the account low, with 2 of my checks still outstanding.

On 8-11-07 I called to cancel internet service with AOL and was told that bank account had already been debited, but that a refund would be issued. To this date no refund has been received in spite of several phone attempts to resolve this.

Service was paid annually, $244.44, so I was short grocery money.

Some time in Dec. 2005 I tried to cancel AOL services, but had difficult time doing so. Finally they convinced me that I could use certain AOL services for $10.95, and if I did not want it I could cancel anytime. They continued to charge me $15.95, and I literally had to fight with my bank to cancel the authorization. We have not used AOL services as we no longer had land line. We bo longer required AOL services; our children graduated and are using other sources. We recall calling cancellation in May '06, Dec '06, and again June '06.

They still insist on charging $15.95 when I have a letter confirming that they were to charge $10.95. That is another reason that I wanted to Cancel AOL SERVICES. I am now receiving collection notices for $15.95 until June 2007. I would like my refund and an apology for trying to make the unwarranted and illegal collection by OSI Recovery Solutions, Inc., 800-862-1707.

I canceled my AOL account in May '07. They sent letters trying to collect for 3 months. No help when dealing with AOL; they have no records of account being closed.

They sending bills of $77.70; this might affect my 800 credit score.

I got an AOL account for my mother's computer and charged it to my credit card. This happened more than two years ago. My mother's computer died during the week we got the AOL account so my mother never got to use AOL. Since then I have been trying to cancel the account. I have called AOL so many times and been told this account has been canceled. However, as of October 28, 2007 my credit card is still being charged the $17.95 that was supposed to have been stopped. It seems for a few months they stopped charging my account and now the charge is back.

The AOL charge is accruing interest on my credit card and they have literally been stealing this money from me. The stress and strain of trying to get this canceled and never being able to get it done is causing me untold grief and frustration.

i canceled my aol service june 29th they persuaded me to stay gave me 1 free month to try a 9.95 service i did not use this service or ever log on again but they continued to bill me 24.38 per month until now. i am trying to get back the year plus they billed me for nothing but they could care less.

they billed me for 15 or so months $365 when there was no activity on the account.

I canceled my account with AOL. They would not cancel my email, however. They have given me a free email account (the same as if I am a paying member) which I do not wish to have. I want that email account to be disassociated from me. I have a new email account and service. I understand that someone might believe that AOL is doing me a favor. I however have different opinion.

I no longer use the service and will not go to the AOL site, free or otherwise. I am being held hostage to bolster the ad sales potential of a company I no longer wish to use. I do feel like this is fraud. The AOL business model is unfriendly to the consumer and defeats the flow of fair trade and business ethics. I wonder how many people would continue to maintain free AOL accounts if they knew they could not permanently get rid of them? AOL is unfairly profiting from my former membership.

I canceled AOL on two different occasions. The first was July 16, but AOL continued to withdraw $24.95 from my debit card account. I then canceled again on Sept. 18 and changed my card number. AOL has now sent me a bill for October even though I have attempted to end services for three months. When I contact AOL the recording says I do not have live customer support services so I cannot speak to a customer service representative.

When I got a collection notice with a working number, the agents tell me they bill a month in advance. The last withdrawal from my account was on 917/07 which should pay for October, but somehow AOL says the payment is for services I did not pay in September. AOL continues to state I owe them money when I can clearly prove I do not; but no one wants to handle my complaint competently.

I am out $74.85 plus the time spent trying to reason with these jokers.

For 1 year AOL took out $23.99 monthly out of my account. I never noticed but when I contacted my bank they said, "Good luck in canceling your AOL. They're terrible to work with."

They immediately put a stop to the charge but I was out $287.88 that AOL refused to refund to me.

I canceled AOL in June 2007 and went to another internet provider. AOL did cancel my account as I checked it. All of a sudden in September, I received a paper bill from AOL claiming I owed $77.70. When I called, they were rude and told me my excuse was not valid as to why I canceled this account. Therefore, they said they will send this to collections and hung up.

I am still trying to resolve this account with no end in sight.

I was stupid and stuck in a free AOL cd for a free trial. I was investigating their offer. I had previously signed up for a very short period in 2003. I canceled fairly quickly because it was a horrendous service. Now, I hadn't reviewed my checking account statements. I got zero notice from AOL that I signed up for anything, never once used their service, and I get a notice this week that they were not able to withdraw money from my account. I was livid at this technological theft. Of coarse I'm gong through hell trying to cancel. After all this time they can still rip people off.

My checking account is overdrawn, my phone bill increased, my time wasted, and I've been on the phone going round and round with AOL. Can't anyone help.? This is crime against consumers.

After subscribing to American Online for several years, my family decided to switch to Comcast for our internet service. I have repeatedly called AOL to cancel our service with them and have never been successful in doing so. I have called several different numbers, often being kept on hold for up to an hour.

Our last attempt to cancel was a few weeks ago. Today I received another bill stating I owed them $77.70 which was due IMMEDIATELY. Upon called the 1-866-859-0176 Member Services number, I was told that our last attempt was unsuccessful because "it had not be validated prior to the end of the call"!!

I am still being charged by AOL/Time Warner $25.90 per month for service that I canceled in February, 2005. I have changed my credit card more than 3 times to keep from getting billed, and AOL/Time Warner continues to track down the new card and charges me. I have called their Billing Department many times and have been routed, rerouted and hung up on too many times to count. I have written to the Better Business Bureau and now am writing to you for help. Please help.

So far this has cost me $854.70 for 33 months of unauthorized charges, and I will probably get charged another $25.90 next month.

I canceled my AOL account in May 2005 but have just found out that they continued to bill my debit card for services. I have contacted my bank to halt the fraudulent charges and will contact AOL to seek restitution....I am furious with myself for not catching this sooner, but even more so with a degenerate company that continues to cash in on an account that has long since been canceled.

Best guess estimate is that AOL owes me in the neighborhood of $700.

Despite verbally canceling an AOL account on more than one occasion, AOL continued to bill me monthly. Each attempt to cancel the account involved an extended, time-consuming process of a long sequence of automated telephone prompts followed by even longer waits on hold. At one time I waited over 30 minutes on hold before hanging up. After informing the bank to stop payments, AOL followed suit by reporting to a collection agency. I'm willing to just pay the $50 to extricate this AOL parasite, although I am fairly certain this is part of their strategy. Would like to warn future potential customers to avoid AOL if they would like to avoid this annoying scenario.

It is the principle of their business practice that angers me. They apparently did not allow me to terminate my account so they could continue to bill me.

I have been trying to get unauthorized AOL charges canceled and off my credit card. I am not, nor have I ever, subscribed to AOL Service and did not request or authorize them to charge my credit card.

I have been billed $25.90 monthly since February 2007. I want AOL to cease charging my account and to reimburse me for the unauthorized charges to my account.

I signed up for FREE AOL. I couldn't get it to work so canceled 16 minutes later. I was then billed $25.90 twice. This happened in June '07 and have yet to be refunded this amount, even after numerous calls to AOL.

I have been billed for the use of AOL that I canceled 6 months ago.

I use another service to get on the internet. I ask them to credit my account back and they would not do it.

I purchased a new computer, and AOL was supposed to stop billing me for the past 6 months. However, they billed me $30 per month and said it is because I did not change my existing screen name.

I was in the process of moving from Detroit, and told AOL I no longer needed the service they were providing. I closed my account at my credit union, and moved out to Belleville. One day I decided to run a credit check when I was denied a checking account at my new local bank. Come to find out that AOL billed my former credit union approximately $250 after I closed both accounts. Ruined my credit rating, and I can't even open a bank account now.

Credit is ruined, tougher to get a job with BAD CREDIT.

I cancelled AOL service about a year ago when I went with high-speed cable internet. Now this week (October 2007) I get a call from collections (the person was clearly from India) saying I owe $50+ and they were unable to charge my account because it wouldn't take the charge. I was upset because this always seems to happen these days. I told this guy that I had not heard anything about owing them anything until today and that I cannot pay him or anyone without receiving a statement, and he said they wouldn't send one. Do they really think we can just pay someone who phones us at the drop of a hat, without even knowing for sure we are really talking to an AOL employee? There's a lot of dishonesty in business today!

The stress these encounters cause is critical, and knowing that a company can charge you for things you don't order or even know you have, randomly and at will, is scary.

Until spring of 2007 our personal e-mail was through Compuserve, which was automatically billed to a credit card every month. We canceled that account and began seeing a new and different amount charged to our credit card from AOL. At no time did we ever subscribe to an AOL service nor did we give them permission to bill our credit card.

I have tried repeatedly to discuss with AOL and the one time I was able to get through to a person he said he could not discuss the account with me because it was not in my name, even though the credit card they were billing to was in my name. He wouldn't even tell me who opened the account or the name of the e-mail address.

AOL shut down my "blackvoices" e-mail service when they acquired it. As a result, I can't get to my address book to retrieve my e-mails and messages. I had been a customer with blackvoices e-mail for over 5 years and during those years I communicated via e-mail with several customers. I have tried and tried to contact AOL but they will not respond to my e-mail or telephone calls.

AOL caused me to lose most of my customers.

AOL fraudulently was taking money out of my checking account after I was promised and sent a letter confirming confirmation that it was cancelled.

It caused a lot of frustration , over draft and hardship on me and my family.and stress and a lot of my hard earned money to be just taken away and that according to them is legal, I think they are bunch of crooks and take advantage of good people and hope one day they get what is coming to them and get out of business for their fraudenlent ways of getting illegal money from customers!!!!

I cancelled my AOL account on September 25, 2007 a t9:35pm EDT and received a confirmation via email from AOL Account Billing Details Account. . I was told by the AOL representative that I would receive a refund and that I would no longer be billed. I have NOT received a refund and my checking account is still being billed. I have called to complain numerous times and have been assured that the problem would be fixed. I just called and asked to speak to a supervisor but never was able to get ahold of one. The representative told me that it would take 2-3 billing cycles for this to be taken care of. I have written numerous emails to AOL Billing as well as their Legal department but they have not responded. When I reach a customer service agent I can tell they are reading from a script. My complaint is not with the customer service representatives themselves as i know they have a difficult job. My complaint is with AOL's business practices. I understand that they have promised to make their billing practices more transparent but this has not been my experience. I feel extremely frustrated that all the cards seem to be stacked in AOL's favor. They have the use of my money for several months. Even though they might eventually refund, these funds will be unavailable to me until that happens. In addition, AOL stands to profit big time from the interest they make by being able to 'borrow' that money from me and thousands of other consumers. I would be very happy to be contacted by an attorney in this matter.

Besides the fact that I do not have access to my money my blood pressure goes through the roof every time I try to resolve this matter with America Online. It takes me several munites to get through to a live representative, and I often hang up in frustration. If I DO succeed in talking to someone it appears to be a complete waste of my valuable time.

i loaded the 90-day free trial cd, and before a month was even over AOL charged my checking account 3 times.

By AOL charging my checking account 3 times it made my account become overdrawn. Now for each day being over drawn the bank adds on fees. it is well over $116 now. i called AOL, and they said they would credit my account those 3 charges they charged my checking account. It has been almost a month and no credit yet. Now I'm overdrawn at the bank and cannot use my checking account.

After my free AOL trial, they kept billing me, even after I cancelled. They don't show records of any times of me calling them or E-mailing them to cancel my so-called "account". They won't cancel my account no matter what I door say. The bill keeps getting bigger and has gone on my credit now for non-payment.

My credit has a bad mark on it now. I'm out of work due to an injury and can't pay this fake bill.

AOL. I have tried a number of times to cancel it. I have never used the account and I tried a couple years ago to cancel it & they wouldn't cancel it so I've paid on it for approx 3 or 4 years for nothing but couldn't get them to stop! Today, I even went to the cancel AOL link shown in an article about a lawsuit that was supposed to be settled and AOL was supposed to allow you to cancel online, but the link it took me to a sign on page then when I logged in, the page that came up had nothing on it but 3 different levels of paid AOL service and one was already selected, no way to opt out of the page either! Nothing about canceling!

I have called them 3 times and spent 30 to 45 minutes on the phone with them and every time they want some other piece of information that I don't have. The credit card I used was reissued when my bank merged with another bank so now they want money and I have no intention of giving it to them! I no longer have the old credit card & they now they say they won't cancel it without that number. At least that's the latest story! AAAAAHHHHH! I HATE AOL!

On September 1, 2005 my husband died. His AOL account came up for renewal in April of 2006, since I did not want to deal with cancelling it and finding another internet provider I extended his account for one year using my credit card. My husband's name has never appeared on this credit card. In April of 2007 the account came up for renewal again and I did not realize until I receive my credit card statement that AOL had charged my credit card without my permission. The master account had been closed since my husband had died and I was using my e mail address only.

I called AOL and they cancelled my account. However, I have been trying since May of this year to get a charge for $239.40 taken off my credit card. This is their charge for the entire year. They also charged me $19.95 for the 189 minutes was was signed on. I am not disputing that charge.

I have called repeatedly and their employees have lied to me, saying this was being taken care of etc. Then I sent a correspondence including a death certificate to the address I was given. When I called again to see if this was taken care of they said to resend and this information. I do not feel I should have to do this. Just how difficult is it to credit back a charge on a consumeers credit card?

I have a $239.40 charge on my credit card that I will not pay off since I do not owe it and I am paying 9.9% interest on it. I am widowed, living on a fixed income and do not have extra money to pay for something I did not receive.

Two years ago I cancelled my account with AOL to switch providers, and I continue to be billed for the AOL service.

I have lost close to $1,000 in payments for a service I don't use.

I have been attempting to cancel both my accounts with aol.com. There are no clear cut directions only circular paths to nowhere.

Although there are no physical or economic damages, the strangle hold they have on users that want to extract themselves from AOL's email service is ridiculous! In this age of electronic technology, it should be a click of the mouse. Instead AOL plays cat and mouse with those who want to cancel their memberships.

I continue to be billed by AOL after receiving cancellation confirmations twice. The last time, on August 29th, I was assured it would be canceled but I did not get any kind of cancellation # which I now understand is necessary to assure cancellation.

I went to the website listed in on this site to cancel and found there was no cancel options, only AOL plans you could sign up for.

I'm out $60 and feel pretty darn frustrated especially since AOL has promised to remedy this problem for users many times before.

The person I spoke with could not find me in the system I advised them that I used to have Bellsouth and I never had aol. I would like to cancel that transaction and get a refund. They told me they would. It has never happened.

I called 2 months prior to cancel my account. They continued to bill me so I changed my credit card number. When they still continued to bill me, I called and told them that I canceled and they could not continue billing.

AOL stated that they had no record of my cancellation, therefore I did not do it. I then told her to cancel again and she stated that she could not cancel until I paid the past due amount.

I have made several phone calls to rectify the billing and with no avail.

After canceling AOL's service in August 2006, they still continued to charge my checking account $10 a month until today. My bank statement used to show AOL800-3536196T RAVLADV SE as the company or entity that charged me. Early this year, I received a note from Traveler's Advantage stating that fees will now be procesed by Trilegiant rather than AOL.

I purchased a computer in November 2005. One of the rebate stipulations was to sign up for AOL service for one year. I gave them my debit card and checking account information to take the payment.

I have made numerous attempts to cancel my payments and here it is Sept of 2007 I am still paying AOL. Every time I access their phone number and key in my information it proceeds to tell me I have no acct with them, but they are surely taking my money.

After speaking to a consultant in Dec. of 2006 to cancel the service I am now being charged two amounts on my bank statement!

I used AOL service for about one month, until I got Comcast service. I canceled my AOL account. Several months later I was shocked to find my bank account over-drawn. My bank told me that AOL was charging me $25.90 every month.

I disputed the charges and my bank reversed the last two charges. A rep from AOL left a message saying he would reverse all fees. He only reversed one month out of five.

I thought the nightmare is over until a couple of months later the same thing happened again! They never quit charging me!

I called AOL, and they said I had no account open. Eventually the bank was able to clear up my account, and AOL was no longer charging it. I even got some overdrafts reversed. Then AOL sent me a bill for a collection of $155.

I called the cancellation number which was quite frustrating. I went through a maze of phone trees before I got to a service rep. I saw that AOL had been subtracting $30 plus from my checking account, since March of 2005.

I never used the service and this was confirmed. I asked about being refunded and was told that the answer was no. I had been charged for nearly two years without my knowledge.

I canceled my AOL service two years ago. I just noticed on my August bank statements that I am still getting billed $30.90.

$30.90 for two years = $741.60

I am trying in vain to cancel Auto Advantage and the Napster memberships which I never signed up for.

In May I signed up for aol for a 90-day free trial. About 3 weeks later I had to redo my computer and when I reinstalled aol it said I owed $75. So I canceled my account.

Now they are sending me urgent bills saying I owe them $29.85. I called and they said that I had to PAY to get the 90-days free.

We canceled our AOL account 2 years ago. We moved and noticed a $9.95 charge on one credit card, then a $24.99 charge on another. We called to cancel and was assured it would be done.

Six months later we realized we were still being charged. We called to cancel again. We recently moved again and noticed another $24.99 charge on our Visa AGAIN!

We have back tracked and found that we have been charged every month for the past 2 years. That is $600.

I recently found out that AOL has been billing me $9.99 on one credit card (that I did not give them) and $25.90 on another card. When I attempted to cancel my account, the agent told me he couldn't find the credit card on my account. He gave me some double talk about contacting my credit card co. to find out if the number has changed recently.

My account has still NOT been cancelled.

I have been paying almost twice what I should have to pay each month for at least 3 months, probably longer.

I canceled my AOL membership but AOL did not stop billing me and taking money out of my account for over a year. I have tried to get a refund but they will not pay me back any of the overcharge.

I haven't had service from AOL in about two years. I just found out that they are still charging me. I recently received two bills from them totaling almost $200.

`

I have been billed for services after I canceled. I called to dispute the problem and they refused to take the bill away - said I was suck paying the bill. I told them I was not going to pay and they said I will pay or it will go to collections .

They were very rude, and they could clearly see that no services were used.

I tried unsuccessfully multiple times to cancel my service. At one point they finally agreed to cancel the service, however, months down the line I realized AOL was still charging me via my Bellsouth telephone bill.

I again called and asked them to reverse the charges. I have been back and forth with AOL and Bellsouth, but no one has removed the charges. Bellsouth informed me that I would have to handle this situation with AOL, however, AOL always respond with they are "researching" my account and I will hear something soon.

yes i keep calling aol to cancel last time i called they said they did. now i called again and i have three open accunts and they are taking money from are savings again and agian 3 month in arow.

I received a "risk-free trial disk" in early June for aol internet service. I attempted to set it up and it worked fine for one day. The next day, I couldn't access it so I called and ask to cancel my acct. The second person I spoke to said he stated he would. I asked if any charges would occur, he stated "No".

About 10 days later, I got a charge of $25.90. I called and was told "don't worry, we will refund this amount in about 1 or 2 billing cycles, which is about 60 days". I asked, "why did you charge my card if i didn't get to use your service, the acct was cancelled the previous week". He said, "It is how we do the billing". I was also told it may occur up to two more times but it will be refunded.

I immediately requested a supervisor, this made the customer service rep burst into laughter!

AOL refuses to cancel my account and stop charging my credit card. I canceled my AOL account Nov 2006. At the same time my credit card numbers were stolen and used. So the credit card info AOL had was not valid anymore.

I received a new credit card in Dec and AOL starting charging me for services from Dec on to April. They had convinced my bank that these were valid charges. I convinced my bank otherwise and they removed all AOL charges.

On June 20, 2007 I received a bill for two months of services. I called the collection department and after several all circuits busy messages I finally reached someone. The rep would not listen and insisted that I still owed the money. I asked him to check the activity on the email account to see if it had ever been used and it hadn't .

I am sorry I signed up for the free trial offer - it has been a nightmare to cancel.

I received a collection letter on a service that has been canceled over a year ago. Collection letter's number is no good and I am unable to reach anyone at AOL 1-888-265-8008. Voice Mail prompt does not allow you to reach an operator.

I believe this letter to be a scam. I just want to have the opportunity to dispute bill.

I am sick and tired of loosing connections in the middle of a conversation. I have an aunt that is plagued with many serious health issues and was once again cut off in midstream!

AOL has been billing my father's credit card for the past 3 years of $23 upon cancelling the account. He recently noticed that AOL has been continuing to bill his credit card and when I talked to service representative from AOL, she said that the account was never actually cancelled. I no longer had the confirmation number that was given to me, but I am positive that I had called to cancel the account over 3 years ago. AOL needs to refund my father's credit card for $23 for the 3 years that they continued to bill him.

My father has sufferred both from emotional and physical stress over this matter. This amount is approximately $828. I have tried calling AOL billing department but they refuse to give me any more information and request that I send a letter out to their billing department.

I called and cancelled my AOL account over about a year ago. i also wrote them 'snail mail' about the same time; AOL never cancelled my account, and I got tired of dealing with their misdirecting automated phone support. I called the automated teller at the begining of April to cancel my account AGAIN, but they still charged my account at the end of May...

I also reviewed my bills from over a year ago and noticed that I was double-billed for just 2 months in a row, but that's still another 50 bucks out of my pocket and into theirs!

Overall, AOL has charged me a total of 19 times over the past (almost) 2 years (totalling almost 500 dollars); Basically, I've been double-billed, and wrongfully billed for about a year now, which has just been piling onto my credit card month after month after month.

5/30/07

I cannot believe the stress that trying to cancel AOL causes -- it is absolutely not worth signing up. They charge way too much -- and you could grow old and die before you can get them to accept the cancellation. I hope that anyone seeing this will not even sign up --- they need to be shut down. It is impossible to get the refund like they promise and they start billing before they are supposed to. I wish I had checked this web site before I used that disk that came in the mail.

About 2 years ago I received a free 1000-hours of AOL service in the mail and decided to sign up. In order to activate I had to provide my credit card info, however was assured that no charges would incur if I canceled before my allotted free time expired.

About 600 hrs into my free usage, I had called to cancel. I was told not to worry, my account had been cancelled and AOL will no longer bill me. 3 months after my initial call, I was still being charged!! Every time I tried to get my money credited back to my account, a rep would tell me that there was ABSOLUTELY NO RECORD of my previous calls or requests to cancel my account.

I called AOL in March of 2006 to cancel my AOL Service. The man on the phone was nice and gave me no trouble at all. I asked if that was all I needed to do to cancel and he told me it was taken care of.

A month later a 1 year payment was taken from my checking account, but I didn't notice. Now March 2007 comes and they billed me again. This time I caught it and called AOL. They say that I called them only to change my credit card. I went back and forth but they wouldn't budge at all.

My only recourse is to write to the AOL Billing operations and services dept. I expect to get the same lousy service there.

I cancelled AOL in March. After numerous steps, I was finally told that my account would be cancelled and I would receive one more bill for March. I was given a confirmation number and told my conversation had been recorded.

My credit card has been charges 3 more times!!!!!! AOL says they have no record of our conversation and unless I find my confirmation number I am being charged for March, April and May.

I called and cancelled my dial up acct to continue with the free access to my AOL acct with DSL. The operator stated that he cancelled the paid service.

Now, I notice that I have been billed the last 3 months since I cancelled.

I cancelled my AOL service in February, they did not bill my credit card in March or April but in May they are billing me for April and May. Also it is under my screen name and not my son's who set up the account under his screen name.

I've been tring for over a year to cancel my aol account I can't get a hold of any one on there end as soon as I mention cancellation I get disconnected they are taking money out of my checking account twice per month equaling over $40.00

They some time over draw my account not once but twice which my bank charges me 33.00 per transaction. I have 5kids and when this happens they suffer it sometime means aol get my grocery money.

I signed up for AOL's free trial by placing a disc in my computer. Unbeknownst to me, I was unable to get connected online after signing up because there had already been a previous account on the second-hand computer that I was using. I later tried the disc at least one more time. Each time I tried to sign up (even though I never connected) AOL began an account for me and began automatically billing my Bank Account.

I needed to cancel the original AOL account (my first try to connect). It was very difficult. I kept getting transferred to different reps, the excuse being that they needed to make an attempt to get things connected for me. Finally after many phone conversations and hours on the phone, I insisted that they cancel my account. Many months later I realized that I was continuing to be charged for multiple accounts. If I figure all the overdraft charges that incurred due to the unexpected charges by AOL, it is over $3,000.00.

A six month free service came with the Dell computer I purchased in Jan, 2005. I continued with this account until July of 2006 when I subscribed to a high speed service through my cable company. The automatic billing didn't stop. Now they tell me there is no record of a call to cancel the service. I finally got a confirmation number after calling twice today and being lost once before it could be completed. When I got through the second time there was again no record of my previous call. Some guy named Sam in India pretty much told me too bad for the charges, all he could do was cancel the next month's and future charges.

I was wrongly charged from July, 2006 through April, 2007 for services I had requested to be cancelled. That is 10 month's fees at $25.90 per month for a total wrongly charged amount of $250.90.

Our house was robbed in October, computer being stolen. We called AOL the next day to cancel service. Was told the account was cancelled. In December, I noticed that money was still being taken out of our checking account after receiving an overdrawn notice from our bank. Called AOL again to cancel. Happened again in January. Called AOL yet again and demanded a refund. Was promised a refund of $90.00. Happened again in February and again in March with the same results.

When I called AOL they informed me that they had no record of my calls-that the computer would be imprinted with the date and time of the call. Received a notice in the mail in April that I needed to update my payment method, since my account did not have the funds. Cancelled the bank account since they would not stop withdrawals. As of May 5, 2007, I am still getting notices in the mail and was told I had been referred to the Collection Department. As of last call, I was promised the account was cancelled and could not be refunded since the checking account was not still active.

With the overdrawn charges, NSF charges, and the charges that we placed to my account after the original cancellation, we are out over $1000.00.

For 60 days I have been waiting for refund of AOL's continued practice of refusing to cancel service and double billing...they are defying the Attorney General of Ohio settlement and using any and all practices to stall restitution. I have provided rock solid, iron-clad proof of my cancellation AND of their double billing. Never have I asked for penalties, interest or punitive damage, just what they stole from me..and I continue to wait in spite of complaints to the Ohio AG, the FTC and the AG's of New York and Florida.

They are a corporation out of control...and I'm broke because of them.

I have no money....they sucked it dry.

My wife, Susan, and I have been with AOL for several years and had no complaints up untill now. I signed up with Cablevisions Optimum Online and did not need the dial up service from AOL any more. I went online to cancel and could not get into the billing page for about two weeks. When I finally got in, I was told online that we could keep our Screen names and receive free E-mail. We would no longer have customer service or chat rooms etc. just FREE E-mail.

The problem is they kept charging my wifes credit card for the monthly charge of $9.95. When I called them on the phone, they said the system is down and you should call back another time. This happened twice and I told them I was stopping payments on my credit card. The credit card company claims they have many complaints about AOL and will process the reverse charges and let me know what happens.

Within two weeks I was told the charges have been placed and I would be credited for two of the three months I was billed for. Now I keep getting calls to my answering machine from AOL and when I return the call they tell me I can't cancel. I don't have a contract with them yet they tell me this is an online contract. I don't have the names of the people I spoke with because They speak with an Asian accent and I didn't want to insult them for not understanding their name.

I now received a letter from AOL saying they are going to a collection agency if the two months billing is not paid. The service has also been suspended. I don't really use them anyway so the suspension doesn't matter.

I had a home fire 12-08-07 which destroyed home, cancelled AOL internet provider service following, was told okay, would be able to keep screen name and use free e-mail service. 3-07 bank statement showed 2 charges for AOL 1 in May, $25.90 the price I was paying for unlimited service. Called several times, told I needed to give them my banking info to trace fraud, I refuse to give them it, they are already charging my account (3 times within 30 days). Home is not livable, no one is accessing Internet or anything else there.

On numerous occasions in 2006, I tried to cancel my AOL account. I was given a run around whenever I actually talked to a live person. Most of the time I was simply left on hold, sometimes for an hour or more. I eventually had AOL's draft from my bank account canceled. I then received bills in the mail and again tried to call them several times with no results. Tonight I received a call from a collection agency demanding that I pay for three months of AOL service that I never used. I have always paid any bill that I owe on time and have an unblemished credit rating, but I do not feel that I owe AOL anything. Instead, I think that they should pay me for the hassle that I've been through and the $32.00 it took at my bank to stop the payment.

My elderly Father and Mother have been moved to an assisted living facility since Aug. 06. We have been trying to cancel their AOL internet service since that time.AOL origionally was billing their Master Card. When we cancelled the credit card they then started billing their old home phone bill. My Father would liked to have kept that phone on at their old house.
We now have cancelled the at@t phone in hopes of stoping theis billing.
My Father has always paid his debts and this has caused him a lot of grief.

It is a shame an elderly man has to go through this.

I canceled my services over a year ago and received a cancel letter (I have a copy). However, I just relized they are still charnging my credit card and now they refuse to reimburse me.

$25.00 per month on my visa card and I canceled over one year ago. I have had comcast for one year.

Can not cancell service that was supposedly cancelled 1 year ago, still being charged

Threatened repeatedly with being turned over to collection agency, repeated haressing phone calls.

I've tried numerous times in the pass to contact AOL and to dispute charges to my account for service that I wasn't receiving. When I did get through to someone, they said that they would credit my account and stop any future charges. Well this never happen. On October 21, 2006, I contacted AOL and requested that they cancel my service. In February, I receive my bank statement and noticed that AOL charged my account $8.95 twice. They're still calling and make threats of sending my account to a collection agency.

I have tried to cancel my AOL account 5 TIMES! They won't let me cancel! They keep charging my credit card even though they claim that they don't have my credit card number on file to verify my account to allow me to cancel my account.

$25.90 per month, every month.

AOL was charging my personal checking account $25.90 a month. (Unauthorized to do so) They were also charging my credit card (Authorized to do) 21.00 a month, for internet services. They have been stealing from my checking account since October of 2005. They only reimbursed me $155.00. They still have a balance due to me.

I had cancelled my service with AOL on November 2006, and they still continue to get charged for their service fee. I called them regarding the fees that they were charging they said that I hadn't cancelled , eventhough my credit card shows the settlement date

On March 11, 2007 I responded to an internet ad by AOL saying free for a while then $9.98/month. I signed up using my credit card. I accessed the account immediately it was up only to discover I would be billed $25.90 for their service. The aol help form did NOT give a cancellation procedure but only an oportunity to switch to a cheaper service. I called AOL immediately and cancelled the service (I had the account about 4 hours.)and spoke to Jor who gave me the name Jorec when pressed. The cancellation confirmation number is: 763805590. I also removed AOL from my computer. I then discovered that they billed me for $25.90 (fraud, deception - cll it what you like.). Since the account was cancelled there is NO WAY TO GET THROUGH TO A HUMAN AGAIN. The machine simply says they will charge for any service such as help.

I do not owe them any money and will not pay the $25.90 charged. Their shoddy practices have caused me much time and mental anguish. I think Gov. Christ's law suit should know about this. I am checking do NOT want an attorny because I cannot aford one.

Yet another AOL Cancellation complaint. Started in July 2006 called to cancel services called two or three more times in August and sept. They give you a hard time each time you call. Finally in Decemeber after six to seven phone calls, I cancelled my credit card so they would stop billing it and they finally cancelled my account for non payment. Sometimes call and they find no record of you calling and sometimes they do but you never get anywhere with them. Now I have a a bill that is due for collection of 51.20 for months two months dec 06 and nov 06 that I never used and thought I was cancelled of AOL.

When you call the AOL sevice rep 1-866-859-0176 I was hung up on twice, they refuse to let me speak to a supervisor and seem unwilling or unable to try to resolve this issue. I am not going to pay 51.80 to them or anyone else and wish for this not to go on my credit statements either. They should be stopped from such fradulent practices. I will not pay with the threat of my credit report being impacted for something that I cancelled and did not use they should be ordered to stop doing business this way for not be allowed in the state of florida.

Besides the agrivation of dealing with people that do nothing to help its very frustating and if they proceed to collection it will impact my credit report.

I bought a new laptop and AOL Services came free with it. I signed up but forgot to cancel within the 6 month period. I noticed the charge on my credit card and unfortunately it was my personal debit card, so it would cost me just as much to contest or actually I can't do anything about it because it has cleared my bank.

I cancelled service in September of 2006 and they continue to bill my credit card company. I have spent hours on the phone with AOL, the credit card company, writing letters, etc.

I was in a dispute through my credit card company and thought it was taken care of. Then AOL turned around and billed me for the four months in one shot that I thought was resolved.

I have talked on the phone, faxed information and silence remains on the other end with no resolution in sight.

On a limited income, I cannot afford even the 25.90 they continue to bill to my credit card monthly.

I have been trying unsuccessfully to cancel two AOL charges that are appearing on my Capital One charge card. I have contacted AOL by phone and in writing. Over the phone I have been promised the charges would be cancelled, only to have them appear on credit card again. Capital One will not block the charges even though I have requested they doso in writing. Capital One states all they can do is request a credit 'after; they receive a letter from me disputing the charge. How do I get thes AOL chzarges cancelled permanetly?

I am tired and aggrevated having to write letters each month to have the $8.95 and $25.90 charges credited back to my account

My boyfriend had an AOL account about 3 years ago; the monthly fee was auto-drafted from his checking account. He called to cancel the service; assuming the service had been cancelled per his request, he closed his checking account. Now, three years later, he has gone back to his old bank to open another checking account. He was informed that in order to do so, he would need to pay overdraft charges from a prior account to the tune of nearly $350! Apparently, AOL had continued to auto-draft his checking account for quite some time; every time they tried, it would cause the account to re-open, and would cost him both the charges and the overdraft fee.

What can be done about this? It would have been pursued 3 years ago, when it happened, but he wasn't aware as to what had been going on until recently when he tried to open a new checking account. Can AOL be held accountable for not honoring his cancellation request, and ultimately costing him quite a chunk of money?

On 02/28/07 I realized that the AOL account that I had cancelled in 3/06 was not actually cancelled. I had signed up for the free trial. Because I only had local calling I could not use the AOL dial up number. I cancelled the free trial and was assured with a confirmation number that I my account was cancelled. Now 12 months later I find when closing my bank account that I have been charged $25.90 every month. I never had the service as it was not available to me without long distance. After speaking with AOL I was told that my money was not going to be refunded. So basically they charged me for services and a membership that was never used

My 13 yr old son used my credit card on January 6th 2007 to set up a free account. I called AOL IMMEDIATELY to ensure my credit card would not be charged, they told me they did not see anything in their system and to rest assured they would make a note and nothing would be charged. Today (Feb 27th) I looked up my credit card statement online (thanks to excellent customer service and internet access from a different provider) and I see a charge from AOL So after 39 minutes on hold and transferred to 4 different customer service representatives I get the fraud department and explain my issue and that I had called the same day only to be told that the Canadian and US systems are not linked and that I must have called the US line in January as they have no record of my conversation. In any event, I'm stuck with having to pay this ridiculous charge.

I cancelled my AOL Subscription in Dec. 2005, and I haven't used that service. Because the credit card account that I used was my wife's, I didn't pay attention until 2 (two) years after. I am surprise we were being billed for premium service. Is this the way that this company is making money?

We cancelled our AOL service over a year ago after the service got worse and worse. AOL came up with this $50 cancellation fee that we knew nothing about.

We disputed this fee with our credit card company. They reviewed it and finally we were told we would have to pay it. We did in July of 2006 and now all of a sudden we are getting calls from credit collections about that same bill again!

This is the worst company I have ever dealt with.

On 12/17/06, I called AOL to cancel my service, and got a cancellation confirmation number. I spoke to "Ron" who had to put his supervisor on to verify that I wanted to cancel my service. I was billed in Jan the $25.90 for Dec service (I was told I needed to give 30 days notice). I have now been billed in Feb for January.

When I called on 2/20/07 and gave my confirmation number, "Mindi" told me I never FULLY cancelled my membership!

I contacted AOL to discontinue my paid services in August, however, AOL continued to bill me for four months after my call. They agreed to credit my Verizon account in the amount of $123.60. They have failed to do so and continue to give me the run around.

After cancellation of their free trial service, they still posted a service charge on my credit card! Trying to get a hold of customer service is impossible. I've been on the phone for 50 minutes and have not been able to reach a human. I've been automatically disconnected after staying on the phone for 20 minutes twice!

They have billed me since October 2004 for an account I never authorized and refuse to refund the $834.30 I am owed for their fraudulant billing.

We had used AOL for our dial up service for over 2 years when our hard drive crashed over a year ago and had to be replaced. I had made multiple attempts to cancel AOL service and was told a variety of things, as well as being hung up on and left on hold for significant periods of time. I was also told that my screen name and password was not correct for my checking account, so I could not cancel the service. Meanwhile, I've spent $30.90 per month for a service I haven't used in 14-18 months. I think this is ridiculous not to mention a waste of money.

My mom cancelled AOL in May of 2006 and was billed for the service in December of 2006 with no notice. When called, AOL stated that she was contacted in July 2005 and accepted AOL again as her provider, but she told them she was not interested and did not need the service. When AOL was confronted with this, they insisted numerous times she stated she would accept the service even though she did not. Charging a credit card without permission should be illegal!

I cancelled my AOL account over 6 months ago, they continued to bill my account. I called back twice to cancel again, they still continued to bill. I finally changed my credit card number--apparently they still continued to bill. Now I have a credit company billing me for $15.50. I have damage to my credit report and I'm really ticked off. When I say I don't want their service I mean it!

For some unknown reason AOL is debiting my bank account for $30.90 each month for: 1106 TWX*Aol Service. I have no idea how they managed to get my bank account information. I have contacted my bank and the most credit they say they can possibly give me is two or three months.

I was using AOL internet dial up, however, a few months ago I called customer service because my credit card was lost. I requested my account to be canceled and the month after I tried to go on line to double check that my account was canceled. I couldn't log in so I just assumed that every thing was fine.

After two or three months I started to get phone calls and notices. I called and spoke with customer service and once again canceled my account, but to this day I am still being billed. I called several times and spoke to several different people and told them I had canceled my services but no one seems to care.

AOL is still charging me over $100.00 for services that I had canceled and never used. I have constant collection calls that won't stop.

I had been with AOL since Nov. 1998. I was on the yearly plan for dial-up and always paid in advance for the year by debit card.

In May of 2004, AOL took out $239.40 for the dialup plan for May 2004 and again in May 2005. Therefore, my yearly plan goes from May to May. This year for 2006, I decided not to renew with AOL and I canceled my debit card. After receiving a bill in June from AOL, I called and informed them I had canceled. They said I still have to pay $239.40 for the year, even if I'm not using them. I have not gone on line with AOL since May of 2006. AOL’s policy is if you drop the yearly plan, then you will pay the monthly plan. How can AOL charge me for the entire year?

AOL calls me at work and at home, harassing me to pay $239.40. Now they have a collection agency calling me at home. I cancelled AOL and I owe nothing! Every year, I paid in advance for the upcoming year. People have a right to cancel and I wish AOL would understand this.

AOL says we owe $76.00. We cancelled the account and were still being charged.

Now a collection agency is calling wanting the money which we don't owe because we cancelled the account long ago. My nerves can only take so much. Isn't it time something is done to AOL?

We started to see TWXAOL Service charges on our checking account debit card 4 times a month since October for $25.90 at a time. We do not nor have ever had an AOL account and I am very upset since they have our checking account number. I have canceled the debit card but I am waiting for the next problem since some one is now in Europe using our debit number. What should I do? I don't know if I should put a fraud alert on all our credit cards and/or close the bank account.

Stress, upsetment we work for the Army and are stationed in the Marshall Islands so it is costly to keep dialing back to the states even an 800 number is 7 cents a minute. We are working with PNC Bank to stop this fraud.

AOL refused to close our AOL account. We called repeatedly from November 2005 to February 2006. Customer Services reps told us: (1) they were not authorized to close our account; (2) a manager would have to authorize the closure of account at which point we were put on hold for upwards of 45-60 minutes; (3) account cancellations needed to be in writing; (4) when letters were sent, AOL claimed they had not been received. Fed up with AOL's refusal to cancel the account, in February 2006 we cancelled the credit card they had on record to bill our account. We had already paid $100 in fees since we had first attempted to cancel our account.

AOL's collection dept began to call to collect payment in April 2006, claiming we owed payment for Jan-April 2006, even though we had paid them for Jan & Feb '06 (we have AM EX statements as proof of payment). AOL collections refused to even give us an address where we could send them copies of these statements as proof of payment. When we refused to pay they turned us over to an outside collection agency who is now attempting to collect payment thru June of 2006.

In addition to the $100 in fees that we were charged by AOL when they refused to close out account upon request in November 2005 thru the time we stopped payment by cancelling our account credit card in February 2006, AOL is also attempting to collect an additional $99.80 for service from March thru June 2006. We assume that late fees and collection fees will also be added to this amount as we continue to refuse to make payment. We feel AOL should refund the fees we paid from November 2005 to February 2006.

I called to cancel my AOL service. I was told by Tom that I would not be charged further charges. The next day my checking account was charged for another months fees even though Tom said that I would not be charged. When I called the lady that I spoke with said that it is too late and that they would not reverse the charges. Earthlink was nice enough to see that I had not been using their service and reversed the charges. I don't see why AOL cannot see that I haven't used their service and reverse the charges that they told me would not take place. I will never use AOL again and will tell everyone that I know not to use them. And they are more expensive than any other service.

AOL never refunded my credit card payment after I cancelled last year. Their date of cancellation( DEC. 05, 2006) was after I spent a lot of time with tech support trying to access AOL from my desktop, and then a 30 day wait period on top of that. I received a letter of cancellation, and it says I could use AOL free (because I had DSL service). They said they didn't refund because they say I clicked on the Icon. I had a technical problem, unable to even use the ICON, I'm sure that it is in their records, the time I spent with tech, unable to click on it. I did use dial-up since cancellation whenever my DSL was down. I was never told I would be charged if I used dial-up. I would be charged if I reactivated the account. Since I received the letter of confirmation of cancellation, then a letter that said I could use AOL for free. I never checked on my refund, I felt confident that I would get the refund because I received the letter.

Aol sent my account that I dont have with anymore to a collection agency demanding payment. I do not owe them anything therefore I am not paying AOL anything as well as this collection agency; they say I owe a total of $144.71

There wasnt any damage resulted I am not paying for services that I didn't use. I had talked with a CSR awhile back whom said I dont owe the money. They took it off of my account

I canceled AOL service within a month of establishing it. I used the only method I could find, which was over the telephone, then sent a follow-up letter to the only address I could find. Finally they stopped billing. Now, two YEARS after I stopped the service, I got a letter from a collection agency demanding $95.60, which I simply do not owe.

This nonexistant bill has been reported to a credit reporting agency.

I purchased a Dell pc with free AOL for 6 months. Then we had family health issues that caused me to cancel AOL (so I thought) and to actually stop using the pc completely.

When I was billed by AOL I called and talked to a young man who assured me if I paid a certain amount (charges before I cancelled) the remaining charges would be dropped. I complied.

Months passed and no new charges came from AOL so I threw away all my notes regarding this matter (names, dates, info, etc). Later, on an entirely different credit card, a $95 charge appeared from AOL!!

More calls, with no notes to back me up, I failed to convince AOL of the previous settlement. Then a collection agency.

I paid the charge, just as AOL knew I would. I feel like a quitter but for $95 bucks they're finally off our backs...maybe.

I received a letter from a collection agency saying that they were collecting $95.60 for AOL. I cancelled my service 2 years ago and have not been contacted by phone or mail regarding any outstanding payments. When I spoke to AOL, they said that I never cancelled and they sent me three letters in the mail.

I have lived in the same location and have had the same phone number for over seven years. They say that they have no record of me cancelling even though I started the process months before moving to DSL because I had heard horror stories about terminating service with them. I find it strange that while I was searching for AOL phone number, I came across many people receiving the same letter I did for the same amount of money.

I fought with the manager for about 20 minutes and she said the best they could do was split the balance with me if I gave her a credit card over the phone.

In September 2003 I cancelled my account with AOL and switched to a different internet provider, I thought that was the end of my association with AOL. Until the present day, I have continued to see a deduction from my checking account statement for $8 per month for a service that I have not received.

I have contacted AOL twice to have this problem resolved and even had my bank account blocked for a period of 90 days, but I am still seeing a deduction. AOL will not honor the action I requested over three years ago. I am currently at my witts end and feel that they are stealing from me.

On September 2005, I cancelled my AOL dial up and changed to Time Warner Cable as a package deal. Since Set. 05 I have had to cancel new accounts that AOL insist on creating. They have debited my bank card every month without authorization for services that are being paid on my cable bill. As a result of these charges it has affected my checking account with fees. I have cancelled the account again on August 08 and found AOL had 2 new accounts for my name. I called back August 18 and found I had 3 more accounts, that have since been cancelled.

Today Sept. 15 I spoke with AOL once again and was told my account is up to date and in good standing, which is telling me again they have debited my account. I was forced to call my Banking Instituation and have my bank card out closed out and have a new card issued. Meanwhile, this issue has been ongoing since Sept 05 ,I have been told by my Bank it will take yet another 45 days to address this issue. I think it is time they are stopped.

They have over drawn my account, and have caused additional fees.

AOL continued to charge me for an account that had been stopped by me calling and being transfered to an agent for the stop order

AOL owes me 285.00 in refund for an account I never used.

I tried to cancel my AOL subscription service by e-mail and phone and was unable to reach anyone. So I closed my bank checking account that AOL was debiting from monthly. On Saturday, September 16,2006 I recieved a letter stating that I owed AOL $95.00 from 2 years ago. They said if I don't pay I will be sent to collections.

I beleive that I should not have to pay any fee for AOL service, since they made it so difficult to cancel there service that I had to resort to closing my checking account.

My mother in law passed away in april 2006. She had an aol account. My wife called them to cancel the account. She was told that they would need a death certificate. We provided that. The account was never cancelled and they kept taking money from a bank account that also had my wife's name on it. My wife attempted to close this account, but was told it was overdrawn from aol billing, and could not close the account until the late fees were taken care of. Needless to say, calling aol was no help. Oh, we're very sorry, but we have no record of any death certificate....

So, we send another one. My wife recently got a notice from the bank that the account was overdrawn $274 for NSF fees. AOL was still attempting to take money from an account that had no money in it. The mess was cleared up with the bank, and they have closed the account. Now, we have received 6 phone calls in one week from aol asking for my mother in law, because she owes them money and hasn't paid her bill since April. Obviously, no one makes any notation in any computer account files about my mother in law's DEATH. AOL has the WORST example of customer service I have ever experienced.

I have been trying unsuccessfully off and on for years, more determinely in recent months, to cancel my AOL membership. I signed up for aol around 1993 for my kids to use. The boys are now men and I have no use for this service. It has been billed to my American Express Card of which I no longer have the original card (I have lost several cards over the last ten years and have no way of knowing what the original account number was). I gave AOL the card number it was billing on now but that didn't help.

They asked for my password (Kids account opened over 10 years ago, I never used ... I have no idea what the password was. Same thing for screen name). I offered to send them a notarized letter stating that I am who I am but that didn't help. Cancelled American Express but they keep billing because of the type of charge it is. What exactly does that mean? I no longer have an Amercian Express card but get a monthly bill from them every month for 25.90 for AOL

Had an AOL account and tried to cancel. After two months, AOL started billing me again. Was able to contact them and have one month refunded but they refused to refund the second month. Had my credit card company deny payment. Now AOL has turned over the account to a collection agency.

We cancelled our AOL acct on 8/5/06, actually we were told we could have free aol email addresses with our Charter Communications broadband svc. On 8/15/06 AOL decided to take out 14.99 from our credit card. On 8/5/06 Joe told me there would not be any further charges and the acct did not have a balance due. Tonight I called AOL and was told I did not have a cancelled acct. still active just getting charged 0.00, I then asked why then did they take out 14.99 from my credit card. I was then told it was for svc for the month of Aug. I told the rep. (Jolly) that If they want to charge me for the first 5 days of Aug, since I cancelled on Aug 5th that would be fine but I am not paying for the full month when I am not using their dial up svc the entire month.

I was told they charge for the full month regardless and they will not issue me a refund. The rep was from India and I tried to explain to her that it is illegal in the U.S. to charge for svc. not rendered. I work for Charter and I know when a customer calls to cancel service, billing charged stop the day the customer says they want it to stop, we don't charge for time svc was not used. I need help in getting AOL to stop taking money out of my credit card and to reimburse me for svc I have not used that they have charged me for and taken out of my acct.

I stopped service with AOL in 12/05 and didn't notice a problem until I switched credit cards in April of 2006. Then I noticed that AOL was still billing me.

I called AOL and they informed me that they had stopped my service in December and that they were billing my credit card for another service under my name that I had NO KNOWLEGDE of. I told AOL what my screen name was and they said that wasn't the screen name my credit card was being billed for. I became very concerned that my privacy and security had been compromised. I have since called my credit card company and requested records that date back to 2001, since I am unsure how long the double billing has gone on.

I have searched and searched and cannot find an address, phone number or anything that will allow me to contact AOL and cancel my service.

I ended my aol 03/05 and as of 08/06 I am still fighting to get this bill removed from my phone service. I lost service because of this matter. What am I suppose to do?

I cancelled my AOL account 4/2006. On August 7, 2006...the amounts of $24.95 and $9.95 were deducted from my checking account. No $$ had been deducted from my account since 4/2006. I had not reactivated my AOL, but was informed by AOL that my account was activated.

After wifes death and loss of AOL password, AOL is unable to help after almost 10 hours of phone calls over several weeks. No supervisor is available to make thoughtfull decisions. Complaints must be sent via USPS.

We will be requesting a chargeback from our credit card company and wish to never have anything to do with AOL.

I purchased a subscription to AOL for a friend's family as a gift. I have been billed for this service for nearly 2 years and for the past 6 months, I have tried to cancel the automatic billing of this service to my credit card. I have called AOL to cancel the service and since February 2006, the account people at AOL cancellation department have 'hung up'on me, pretended to forward me to their supervisor and 'parked me' in a dead line, put me on hold and never came back to the telephone...

I have been charged $26 dollars per month for the past 7 months since I called to cancel. I have contacted the local bank that holds the credit card and they have issued a complaint against AOL, seeking reimbursement for the monies taken from my account without authorization from me. I just received the last bill from the bank and AOL has again charged my account. I called them today and they said that I was screwed and couldn't do anything about it.

I have been trying to cancel my ccount with aol,I call any of their numbers listed on they web site, when I call I am told that the number has been changed, when I call the new number, the recorded msg. says thay I am calling Compuserv. I tried to stay on the line to find out what's going on, but nobody ever answers the line.

They are deducting $7.95 from my credit card for a service tha I don not need, tha the offer now free to new customers.I access the internet trhu another carrier. This is like highway robbery comming from a company that is suppose to be the best in the business.

I cancelled my account with AOL in 2004, and today I receive a letter from NCO Financial Systemns saying that I still owe AOL $23.90!!! From an account that I cancelled and paid off in 2004! I am livid! I called NCO, and the two people I talked to have such strong accents, that I cannot understand what they say all the time. I am so furious.

I am a college student on a tight budget, and I cannot just throw around $23.90. However, I don't want to mess up my credit score by not paying and disputing it with AOL.

After the now legendary foolishness of stopping my AOL account, I have received a notice from a collection agency for $95.60. Da Noive! My account was typical draft from a credit card. The only correspondence about the charges was with AOL. If these were valid charges, there is no blocking mechanism in place other than at AOL, and they could have debited the card.

I cancelled my account with AOL several months ago because my Cable Company makes AOL available through Time Warner Cable.Several Months ago, i had problems with AOL(double billing, and Failure to cancel my account). The billing was deducted from a prepaid credit card. Finally i was able to cancel.Today, i received a letter from a collection Agency demanding $95.60. This is ridiculous, when will it end.

I will not pay this bill. The company should be driven out of business.

Charles Lynch Station VA (07/28/06)

AOL started billing me after I cancelled a 90 free trial within 3 wks because of poor performance. Call went offshore for cancellation. When I asked for confirm #, was told none issued for trial cancellations. They got away billing me 5 months since I was away at work.

America Online continues to bill me for charges for their services, despite the fact (as I've repeatedly told them) that I've never signed up for their service, never asked for it, never wanted it, have never used it, and am not using it now. The individuals I spoke with over the phone claimed that they were unable to cancel my membership.

I went through this exact same thing with them last year, when mysterious charges for their service started appearing on one of my credit card statements. (Where on earth they got my credit-card number in the first place is still a mystery to me; I certainly never gave it to them.) I contacted them over the phone at that time & eventually got them to agree to cancel and not bill me anymore.

Now they're starting up all over again, only this time, they're doing it through threatening letters from a collection agency. And this time, when I tried calling AOL over the phone to get this mess straightened out once and for all, they flat-out refused to cancel the membership, claiming that they were unable to. Instead, they gave me an 800 number to call (their fraud line) which--conveniently--was closed.

I had an account for a few years and was on automatic payment on my American Express. When I cancelled the account, about six months later, they billed my AE $252.00 for a cancellation fee. I called AE to dispute and they investigated the charges and sent me a letter say it was not justified. It's been OVER a year and this evening I get a call from a collection agency for the money. I called AOL with no success. I have over an 800 fico score and this will damage my rating. As you can imagine, I'm not happy but do not know what else except a lawyer.

After signing up for the free trial, I discovered that there was no way for me to connect, even at the slowest speeds. I therefore contacted AOL and requested my service agreement be terminated immediately. I was assured that it was and that I would not be billed.

Within 1 month I received a bill for $102 fromn AOL for the free trial service that I never used. This is the third such encounter with AOL, as I have had service through them before and found it nearly impossible to discontinue service. I find it appaling that AOL gets away with such unethical business practices.

AOL opened an account in my mother's name and said I did this while I was overseas with her account number. One, I don't have her account number and two I don't know how they got it. But they are charging her account for the money and she cannot cancel it. Only I can but I'm overseas right now and cannot.

I cancelled my AOL account after I was charged a couple of time in 2002. Today I received a collection notice for $95.60.

This account was cancelled with a $0 balance and not one person can explain what the charges are for from 2002.

My husband and I where looking over our statements and realized that AOL had been deducting from our bank account for a year after I had canceled it. I am so fed up with this company I cannot believe they are not out of business yet.

They keep saying that I took on their free two month service when I canceled my account and the reason I canceled was because my computer broke and I wasn't getting one right away. So whom ever canceled my account had to have marked that I wanted the free trial! I have never been so upset in my life.

A substantial amount was withdrawn from my account because someone at AOL probably had some quote to make for signing people up.

My parents were AOL members. My father died 2 years ago and my mother kept the account open under his name. She passed away 06/24/06. On 06/27 or 06/28 I called and spoke to a customer service representative at AOL and explained the situation of my mothers death and requested they cancel the service. They told me that since I was not on the membership I could not do that.

I was told that they would send me form to fill out and complete to send back to them along with a death certificate and documentation showing where I was authorized to act as their trustee. I did not know which of the credit cards this account was charged to and was unable to call them to cancel authorization. However, the following week (July 7th) we did get a hold of my mom's credit cards and called each one and paid them off over the phone and cancelled them.

On July 24th I received a final payment statement from the credit card company which, it turned out, was the card used by AOL. On July 1, 2006 they had charged the credit card again. This was AFTER being notified that service was being cancelled due to my mother's death.

They actually continued billing. I called on July 24th and spoke to a customer representative who said they had not received the form yet putting me on the account. I explained they had not sent it to me. I insisted they take the charge off the now closed Visa account. They refused. I then waited on hold for more than 10 minutes for a supervisor who repeated the insistence that I had not sent in a form to them.

I signed up for the 90 day risk free trial in April and cancelled it in May. AOL charged me a monthly fee on my credit card which I disputed. In June I got a past due notice and July a collection notice for 25.90. I called the hotline for collection. They were unable to answer my questions and transferred me to billing who told me that once I sign up for the free trial I am billed the monthly fee.

I decided to pay and asked how I can do that. The CSR told me by credit card only. I stated that my notice gives me check and money order options. The CSR then gave me a mailing address to mail the check which turned out to be partially incorrect compared to my collection notice. AOL's business practice is borderline fraudulent and definite misleading. Their customer service is beyond poor. The reps come across as friendly but completely incompetent.
