Kirby Vacuum Cleaners - 3-Day Return Policy

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

I bought the Kirby Machine because I thought I was helping a guy and his family out with a trip to Disney World. Well, I lost my job and have not even made the first payment yet (isn't due yet) and I have had the Kirby a week. They did not mention a 3 day return policy. He mentioned a 30 day return policy. I called to return and they gave me the so called number to the Kirby that sold me my vacuum and the number is disconnected. I am not paying a dime and it cannot ruin my credit or I am reporting to The Better Business! I have not job, I am a military spouse and deserve better respect for what my husband does for the country. But yet they still barge into your home and take over. We were sitting down to supper when they knocked and just came right in and start so our supper is cold before the 2 hours are up and my couch and rug is soaked.

I was told that if I traded my sweeper and steam cleaner to a $200 off the Kirby sweeper. I cancelled the contract the next day. I waited for 3 days for the people to come and get the sweeper. I called every day. We returned the sweeper but they were supposed to bring back my old steam cleaner and sweeper. I waited 2 weeks. I called every day. Finally, I got results but the missing pieces to my cleaners were not returned. Three weeks later, I am still calling. I need my steam cleaner part and my brush to my vacuum. This man works from Ft Meyers American Eagle. His name is ****.

A $400 down payment on a Kirby vacuum cleaner was taken, we have no vacuum and Mr. Milbourne is no where to be found. My husband and I have a warrant out for Mr. Milbourne. He came to our home on June11 and demonstrated the vacuum. We decided to purchase for $1,300 and gave down payment made out to (supposedly) his supervisor, Yolanda Scott. (We should never have made the check to a person instead of the company). That night we did not feel comfortable and decided to use the 3-day cancellation notice option, wrote a letter and sent it to the company certified mail) We spoke to Ms. Theta Williams who said she had given our deposit money to Mr. Milbourne who abscounded with the money and the vacuum.

At a later time, Ms. Williams said she had recovered the money and would send it by special delivery. Today is July 25, 2011 and our money has not been returned. We believe this was an absolute scam on the part of each of the aformentioned people. Mr. Milbourne spoke with Ms. Williams on the phone during his sales pitch so many times, we wondered why she had not come instead of him. we intend to prosecute until our money is returned or someone(s) serve jail time for their crime.

I was hoodwinked and bambozzled into letting some Kirby demonstrators into my home with sob stories,I had said absolutely NOT interested go away, can't afford, I get up 3:30am daily for work ect.came back again another story said needed to clean only 1 more floor for credit, I said 15 min and out, needless to say I was tired, delirious and very upset it was now 3hrs! this company needs to be stopped from being so unethical and I want to get out of this contract before it starts! I have NOT touched this it is in same place they left it!

I can't get anyone on the phone at Kirby. I had a home demonstration and was told I had 3 days to decide if I wanted it. I called them back in two days but was bullied into keeping it.

Three months later, I can't get anyone to answer the phone at Kirby. I called the finance company and their reply was, "sorry, three days were up a long time ago. Nothing we can do". I do not want to default, but there are no choices.

Damages: I will be stuck paying for this machine for the next two years and the machine is not worth the money.

A male sales person banged on my door and showed me a flyer advertising a *Free* carpet cleaning. I asked about setting up an appointment but he said "Hold on, I'll be right back" and ran across the street to get his associate. They quickly grabbed boxes and started bringing them into my house.

I told them I was in the middle of making dinner but they claimed it would only take a few minutes. The saleswoman started to vacuum sections on my living room carpet. Then they quickly started to shampoo a section of my living room carpet.

They told me about the THREE day return policy so I let them leave the thing at my house figuring I'd give it a shot to decide if I wanted to really keep it as an investment in my children's health. When I was ready to try to shampoo my living room carpet one of the most important components was not with the unit. It took TWO days to get that item to me and now I find out that another item needed to clean hardwood floors was not in the package.

Damages: $1345 is a great deal of money to spend on a device that does not do the job. I feel railroaded and think they took advantage of my children's health issues to make a sale.

I had some sales people come to my home and give me, what I now realize, was a total power sell. I had just had a baby, and was stuck in the house all day, so having some adult company was welcome...and I realize now, pathetic.

I thought they were going to clean my house for free, because they said they would, but they never did. I was left with a $1500 albatross that I'm terrified of using because it costs so much. I didn't realize how overwhelming the price was until the loan company called and reality hit that I had just bought a $1500 vacuum. That was when I found a packet they left with a three day return policy disclosure. I was never told I only had 3 days to return it.

Kirby told me that the State of Florida does not allow them to take back machines sold in homes.

First the Kirby salesman promises it will be a SHORT presentation. Four hours later the guy finally finishes his demonstration and his boss shows up. He tries to make me feel like if I don't buy his vacuum I am a terrible father to my kids by allowing them to play in filth. He ends up walking away with a check. The next day I canceled and they came a week later to pick up the vacuum. I was told they already cashed my check and would send my money back when they got back to their office.

It's been a month and can't get a human to even pick up the phone when I call. I guess I should have come to this site to see what they were like before I agreed to let them in my home.

On Friday Feb. 6, 2004, my wife purchased a Kirby Sweeper. On Monday Feb. 8th we canceled the contract by registered mail with receipt requested. Then the games began.

A-3 picked up the sweeper on Feb. 26, 2004 and said our credit card would be credited. That was never done. After many calls and promises, we gave up and wrote Master Card only to find out the 60-day window had passed.

We contacted the Michigan Attorney Generals Office. They wrote letters to A-3 with no results.

Then we contacted the UAW/Gm Legal Services. They sued and got a judgment for the original $1690 plus $250 as punishment. When the Sheriff's deputy went to serve the judgment, he said they didn't have anything to seize to satisfy the judgment.

We are at a loss as to what to do.

In exchange for a demonstration of the Kirby vacuum cleaner, I was supposed to get a free car vac. When the salespeople packed up to leave they took the free vac and didn't give me any way to get in touch with them. The salesman said he was doing this in exchange for college credits.

This guy named Calvin kept coming to our home wanting to demonstrate this Kirby machine. My husband finally let him in on 9-27-2000. This guy repeatedly kept pressuring us ... saying that he was trying to get enough sales to enter this contest for a new Corvette. He said that we could try it for three months on a no-risk trial basis and if we decided we didn't want to keep it, call him, and he would come and get it, no questions asked.

Well, three DAYS later, I told my husband it wasn't what we needed and we called Calvin repeatly; no response. We called Kirby; no response. Now we are stuck with this so-called great vacuum and we don't want it. We have called and called and remained nice to this day.
