Teresa of Los Angeles, CA May 18, 2009 after seven years the refrigertor started leaking really bad on the in side! I was reading the complains that people have posted and they have the same problem. It also smell like it burn some times. LaDonna of Fort Worth, TX May 15, 2009 Our side by side 2007 whirlpool refrigerator (ED2PHEXMQ00) began to smoke and smelled of an electrical fire. Luckily we were home to unplug it before our family, animals, & house burnt down. We purchased the refridgerator from Lowes and also an extended warrranty. We have an extended warranty which expires this July and were given the run around for 4 different phone calls. We were given a contractor; name and number who was supposed to arrive sometime in the next 2 days, even though we were considered an emergency. When I called the contractor directly that whirlpool set up for us they told us that there was no way that they were going to come out and that whirlpool /Lowes' extended warranties schedule appointments all the time without getting a confirmation of service. We ended up having to find our own repairman and getting it fixed ourselves. The electric relay switch caught on fire and was replaced. I have been researching on the internet and notice there are an abundance of complaints about whirlpool's refrigerators. Why isn't there a recall on them?!!!! We paid to have the the electric relay switch replaced and so what is the purpose of having an extended warranty if you can't use it! Barbara of Anchorage, AK May 14, 2009 Our Whirlpool/bottom freezer/top ref/GX5SHDXTQ00 has never worked properly in that the refrigerator temp fluctuates from 30 degrees to 45 degrees. At the beginning, I turned the digital settings from 4 to 5 and then stayed with 6 (the highest setting). I have used three different thermometer gauges which all concur there is a major problem with this appliance. The repair man has made 4 trips in the past 2 months, replacing the "mother board" and the digital control and his last advice was to keep the freezer and ref. at the highest levels and see if that would fix it. I still have the same problem. I have had the unit for 14 months. I am afraid the highest settings are not going to hold for long and then what? My older "Frigidaire" never fluctuated the entire time we owned it. Lowes says I must deal with Whirlpool, who says I must have the repairman fix it. Lori of Silver Lake, KS May 13, 2009 I purchased a side by side fridge 2 years ago and just noticed it is starting tocrack on the inside wall. I was shocked thinking this was a faulty item that should be replaced but when I called I was told this would be my responsibilty. After a long conversation they did offer to send a repairman out from A&E. They have offered to "patch" the wall but as the repairman stated it would not look very professional and he didn't believe I would want that in our home. After my talking with my husband we have decided not to "patch" the cracks. I am very disappointed with the response and action they were will to take. I can honestly say I will not purchase another Whirlpool appliance! richard of Brooklyn, NY May 13, 2009 I purchased a Whirlpool refrigerator (model #ER8YHMXSL.00) about 3 years ago. The fridge works fine, however the stainless steel panels on the front doors have recently buckled, making the appearance less than desirable. I never heard of, or expected such a thing to happen. Calling customer service has shown that they will only send a repairman out, at my cost for the visit and any repairs. This problem is clearly one of defective design/ materials. It is not "breakage", and I feel that the company should take responsibility for this flaw. I don't see any other similar complaints, but perhaps others have noticed this and should voice their complaints Carla of Smyrna, GA May 6, 2009 Whirlpool side by side GD5shaxns00 stainless steel. Only 5 years old and we have replaced the module on the ice maker and now we need to replace the control board. Called Whirlpool 5/6/9 and they tell me that the warranty on all parts just expired in 08 and there is no recall on parts. We have not been very happy with are Whirlpool appliances. We had to replace a part in our Whirlpool built in microwave too (only 4 years old). We will never purchase Whirlpool products again. It seems that the appliances are manufactured to last 2 years!!! ANN of LAKEWAY, TX May 5, 2009 Our Whirlpool refrigerator model GD5RHAXNBOO SE SS3965618 built in Sept. 05 is cracking all over inside. Now I find that Whirlpool is not fixing--I have never had a fridge with that problem. Reading this site, now I fear to leave the house as it also might catch on fire. Robert of Auburn, AL May 4, 2009 Compressor Relay almost caught fire. Wires chared, smells. Noticed recall for Maytag products for same issue, but not Whirlpool brand. Same problem as Maytag. Robert of Ashville, PA April 30, 2009 Another dissatified Whirlpool refrigerator customer. Had problems with ice maker, repaired by myself, cost 75. now compressor relay probles like those described below. est cost 150 parts only. Not to mention smoke, smell and threat of house fire. Thank God I was home. Fridge is only 6 years old and was not cheap. Cindy of Fairfax, VA April 21, 2009 Report Your Experience
