Jenny of Claremore, OK (7/25/05):
I purchased a new Murray push mower from Wal-Mart in June of last year. By August the motor was revving up and down. This year it has been a constant battle to keep it running.

I have to constantly take off the gas tank and the carburetor to clean the holding tank because dirt stops up the screen. Grass shoots out the sides and onto the top of the mower. I just discovered that the carburetor intake tube (which is made of hard plastic) has broken off inside the motor. Perhaps this is the reason that the mower quite working this time.

I haven't been to Wal-Mart cause I know that my warranty has run out. Guess I will be buying a new mower, and it won't be a Murray!

Daniel of West Haven CT (5/5/05):
I purchased my Murray pushmower, 22 inch 4.5 horsepower Bridges and Stratton engine, in August of 2003 on sale at Home Depot for $129.00. The mower worked for the first summer and no more. In 2004, the mower would periodically not start, and after being taken to the repair shop more times than I can count, the end result was "it's just a bad mower."

The repairman described internal parts so worn that he could not believe the mower was only a year old. And now just 2 years after I purchased the mower it is shot. It is no longer under warranty, so I called the Murray customer care line and was told "I'm sorry but what do you expect for a hundred bucks." Never again will I buy a Murray product.

Candy of Dobson NC (7/31/04):
I purchased a Murray Lawn Mower on April 19, 2003. It was the push mower one for $99.96. The mower worked fine until the end of May of the same year. The mower just died on me. I mean it was getting gas and oil, but there was no spark between the spark plug and engine. So, I took it back to Wal-Mart with the receipt. Wal-Mart's policy is to repair it first before exchanging it. So, they sent it out for repairs.

The repair guy fixed it and told Wal-Mart and myself that it was a faulty wire coming from the engine to the spark plug that shorted out. So, I took it home and it ran great until the end of July. I ran into the same problem again. Another wire shorted out. So, Wal-Mart exchanged it for the same model, and they extended my warranty on the new lawn mower. This lawn mower worked great and I put it away for the winter.

When April came around, I took it out of storage. My dad sharpened the blade to it, changed the oil, and so forth. He cranked it twice and it worked. Around mid-April, I went to mow the lawn and the lawn mower wouldn't start. Again the same problem as before, another faulty wire shorted out. I was angry and I called up Wal-Mart and asked to speak to the person in charge. I told him my problem and he was very sorry. He said to bring it in and they'll exchange it for the 2004 model of Murray Lawn Mowers. He said that it was Wal-Mart's fault for not refunding my money and for not recalling the mowers due to a faulty wire.

So, I took this one home and it worked great until today. I was outside mowing my lawn when the lawn mower died on me. This time the lawn mower caught fire and the round exhaust thing on the side of the mower blew off the mower. There was smoke and flames coming out from where the spark plug was located at. I was lucky that the fire put itself out and the lawn mower didn't blow up in my face. I called up Wal-Mart and they told me to bring it. They also said that it wasn't supposed to have happened. I am hoping that I'll get my money back instead of getting another Murray Lawn Mower in exchange. This time I'm getting a Huskie Lawn Mower.

David of Palm Beach FL (6/21/04):
I purchased a 4.5 hp Murray push mower last year at Home Depot. Right from the start it didn't run right. Constantly stalling then wouldn't restart. I called Murray and was told to call Briggs and Stratton. They sent me to a repair place that charged me to fix it because of "bad gas". The mower has malfunctioned like this ever since and of course I lost my receipt so Home Depot can't help me. This is my 3rd and last purchase of a Murray product.

April of Jennings LA (5/20/04):
We purchased a Murray 4.0-Hp push mower in March of 2003. Toward the end of the mowing season, we began having trouble with it. It would rev up and die down the entire time we mowed and then it would rev up and stay strong the last minute until the tank ran dry. We brought it in the be "repaired." The first time we mowed it ran right but the second time it started back up again. Now the thing will not even start.

Roger of Valdosta GA (4/25/04):
Purchased new Murray push lawn mower (Mod # 220011x82A) April 15, 2004, at Walmart. Runs very short time due to excessive dirt in air filter. Excessive dirt caused by what seems to be a design flaw. All grass and other bits cut and picked up by the rotating blade exit the under body near the wheels and front end. This results in all dust and dirt swarming around the motor and the operator's face. Very little exits via the right side chute (with the plastic guard). Checked factory-installed blade and cleaned under side, made no difference.

Jeff of Columbus GA (4/19/04):
I purchased a Murray push mower in June of 2004. I used the mower once and then I had to put it up due to being transferred to Italy by the Naval Reserves. When I returned in spring of 2003 I had the mower tuned up and used it once. When I used it a second time the mower would not start. I again returned the mower to have it serviced. Today I used the mower a fourth time. It again began to run badly. I will never purchase a Murray again.

Charles of Memphis TN (11/11/03):
I purchased a new mower in July 2003 -- a 6.0 hp Murray push mower. I sent the warranty information in but it was evidently not recorded. My mower would not start and I called Murray customer service and was told where to take it for service, but would have to have my receipt. Unfortunatly I can not find the receipt, and I called back and was told it was not Murray's problem and to call Briggs and Stratton.

I called them and was told to take it for service and did not need the receipt, since the manufacture date was on the mower of June 2003. The service place said I had to have a receipt. Home Depot said they could not look up the purchase. I was going to look up my bank transaction but the records on line do not go back that far. So I have to pay to get proof from the bank that I made the purchase.

After 2 days of this bs I tore the mower down myself and did my own repair. Thanks for nothing, at least I will not ever have to register another Murray product.

Bernice of Cartersville GA (3/21/03):
Last year I bought a Murray push mower at Home Depot. The thing would never start and when it did, it didn't run long. I went to Home Depot today and another man was complaining about the same situation. He said he just threw his away. I always liked Murrays and now I don't know what to do. I don't have a way of hauling the thing around all over the country to get it fixed and pay even more.
