Summer of 2006 I purchased a KitchenAid Professional 575W 6 Qt stand mixer based on the brand reputation at that time. My wife and daughter began using it during the holidays that year and commented that with sticky doughs the beaters were pulled down and out. I sugested spraying them with vegitable oil spray which seemed to work. During the holiday season in 2008 my daughter told me that the beaters had stopped rotating and there was a "weird" noise comming from the mixer. I removed the motor cover and discovered that the Gearbox housing was cracked in multiple places allowing the gears to ride up and slip.

Upon contacting KitchenAid I was informed that the mixer was no longer under waranty and I could have it repaired by the colsest facility, 150 miles away. Having been a mechanic I knew that I could replace the 25.00 part. I found out that the original part had been replaced with what seems to be a heavier duty casting. I don't know if it will suffice, but if it doesn't I will have a very expensive boat anchor. I will tell all I know NOT to buy KitchenAid products, nor will I ever buy that brand again.

Rachel of Bangor, ME July 7, 2009

Have owned a large kitchenaid stand mixer my husband bought me several years ago. From the first it sounded like it was working very hard when mixing anything with any thickness and dripped oil from around the beaters. Because of this I have used it infrequently and thought I would get it repaired at some point. Today I googled kitchenaid repair and came across this site. After reading the previous comments, have decided it is not worth the effort and will dispose of it. I recently furnished a new kitchen and purchased a kitchenaid dishwasher. Am now sorry I did.

We owned a regular Kitchen Aid stand mixer for 13 years and LOVED it, but when we decided to upgrade to a heavy duty lift-stand mixer we've been very disappointed! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THESE 'HEAVY DUTY MIXERS' TO ANYONE who likes to cook using whole wheat. They can't handle double batches of 100% whole wheat bread. They can't handle the food grinder attachment for grinding wheat sprouts, or makind whole wheat pasta. At first it handles bread dough beautifully, but the gears start 'popping' after a year or so, and by then your warranty is expired. It's very discouraging to spend 400 for a mixer that can't do any more than the smaller, less expensive, models. These are NOT heavy duty mixers. You have to 'baby' them more than the smaller mixers. BEWARE wheat-savvy-cooks...This is NOT the appliance for you.

the kitchaid pro 600 mixer this is the 3rd one I have had to send back to kitchaid the weight of the dough pulls the acuator the thing that holds the beats in down out of the base Kitchenaid customer service was decent replacing it the first time then got an attitude when I had to resend it back now this is the 3rd mixer from them and the same damn thing they need to put a screw in to hold the mechanics in like they do on there smaller mixers.

Like so many others, my Kitchen Aid Professional 600 has failed while mixing a single batch of brioche dough. This is the 2nd machine that ha failed. Having heard so much about lousy response from the company, I'll go back to Bed, Bath and Beyond and see if they will return this lemon for me, and I'll buy a better product.

I bought a Kitchen Aid Artisan mixer about 3 years ago. It leaks oil out of the mixer and into the bowl.

Karen of Houston, TX May 19, 2009

Like another person who posted, I had been using my mother in law's very old Sunbeam stand mixer & although it had a broken beater, it still worked. After 25 years of marriage, my husband treated me to a lovely Kitchenaid Professional 600 stand mixer. It is barely two years old but since day 1, it had been spewing grey "stuff" into whatever was in its bowl! At first I thought: it's new. It'll work itself out. No way!

Today I was making white icing for my mom's birthday cake and there's that "grey stuff" again. Looking at your site, I see other people's posting about oil leaking. Of course the Kithenaid website is being uncooperative and not helpful! Just for reference, our now 10-year old Kitchenaid () dishwasher was a "lemon," too...has had problems with parts breaking, falling off and failing. (Our former cheap builder-grade GE dishwasher never did that!) The nice Kitchenaid blender we bought lost its metal handle shortly after we purchased it! What's going on, Kitchenaid?? VERY disappointed is putting it mildly.

After making and decorating two cakes for an 80th birthday, I decided to look for someplace to have my mixer repaired, as it was leaking oil - again. I found this Web Site and have decided my Kitchen Aid will go in the trash, too. My former Kitchen Aid had "died" several years ago, after a number of years of service. I replaced it with another Kitchen Aid. Now I'm sorry I didn't see about having the old one repaired. I'll be looking for a new, heavy duty mixer.

Bought the Proline 600 series SPECIFICALLY because it says it makes bread. Within 2 weeks my first unit burned out even though I was using it within product guidelines. They sent me another one with few questions asked. Take II The second mixer suffered the fate of the first w/in several uses of bread making (5 cups white/2 cups wheat using a TIMER so as not to overwork it.) Take III The 3rd mixer has the new and improved METAL gear housing case unlike the first two. I bake bread about 5 times (no more) a week and make cookies about every 5 days. I haven't used the product for pasta making yet although I have the attachmets. It worked so well for 2 months that even called customer service to let them know. It hadn't overheated and it hadn't sounded like it was working hard even once. Take IV while making a pound cake (first use of the day) the gears started clicking. They are slipping! My machine had 3 cups white sugar and 2 sticks of butter mixing at speed 4 four 30 seconds. I called customer service and they hemmed and hawed about replacing it under warranty as per the warranty. They asked how many children I have since I bake up to ten (1.5 lbs loaves of bread a week. Finally, they tell me I can have a new machine just this once more. I can hardly wait for take V! I will never buy another Kitchenaide. I've had to baby these machines more than a newborn. I only bought it because it advertises that it mixes up to 12 cups of white flower and 8 cups of wh wheat. (I've never come close to that amount) I feel scammed because I don't need this product if IT can't knead flour. The 6 qt, especially is OVERKILL for most uses: like the pound cake I'm trying to mix today. If Take IV doesn't "take" I may be left with a 400 Hunk of Junk on the counter.

Nancy of Eatonville, WA May 6, 2009

My Kitchenaid stand mixer stopped working. Upon inspection I discovered that the half inch thick vertical shaft had snapped in two. I sent the mixer to KitchenAid as per their request for inspection and possible repair. They called several weeks later and told me the gears had stripped - probably from too heavy of batter and that in turn caused solid metal vertical shaft to snap. Of course this is ridiculous. I have never put more that 6 or 7 cups of flour in my bread dough and have been making bread for 30 years. If there was a defect in the shaft it could have stipped the gears but not vice-versa. From KitchAid's standpoint if they had admitted to defect in the metal shaft they would have had to pay for it. Futhermore when they called me they refused to give me a detailed account of problem - until I paid. Then they said they could not tell me verbally but written account would be in the return box. I will use this mixer until it breaks and then find a more reliable company.
