Kevin of sunny isles beach, FL August 29, 2009 I thought I had bought the Lemons. I have had problems with all 4 of my Kitchenaid appliances which I bought in 2004. Most recently on Thursday my Dishwasher Door KUDP01FLSS1 came crashing down when I opened the door to unload the dishes. Thankfully I was infront of the door to stop it from rocketing down rather than my dog. If luke were in front of it, he would have been a gonner! This dishwasher has caused me nothing but grief. I've had it serviced a total of 7 times. I've had the fuse replaced 5 times and the control pad replaced 2 twice. The last fuse replacement and control pad replacement was in January 2009. About a month ago the Normal cycle stopped working and I can only run on Heavy Light or Rinse. This is typically what happens before the fuse or control pad needs to be replaced. There must also be somthing wrong with the water temperature, because I can only get warm at best, even with the High Temp. Scrub activated. My Oven KESC308LSS0 bought at the same time has not worked for about 2 years. (Thankfully I don't use the oven only the cook top). One day the Oven Heating Element quit working. I've had a Local Service company in trying to fix it thinking it was a fuse, but after 3 fuse replacements they couldn't figure out what the problem was even with the KitchenAid Technical support team on the phone. They started removing pieces and parts and thought it might be something called a Harness. Told me the were going to order it. when I called back two months later after not hearing from them, I decided enough. this is a service issue but the oven quitting on me is definately a product issue. Additionally the Black Molding around the cooktop has rusted away. I don't think this sould have happened with light cleaning of the stove after use. My MicroWave-Convection unit over the stove still works, but with a loud noise when the inner element is rotating. The noice goes away after 4 minutes of continual use. Lastly, my KitchenAid refridgerator freezer started suffering from ICE Build up in the freezer. The service company charged me for a visit and replaced the rubber seal. Two weeks after it was replaced, the ice buildup, although not as much, started to appear again. I have a couple thousand dollars worth of service calls and replacement parts. I now have to replace the dishwasher and oven ( which will not be with KitchenAid Products) and will eventually have to replace the microwave and refridge. so that I have matching appliances. J of Park City, UT August 28, 2009 I had my dishwasher repaired for free by contacting Whirlpool Corp.(Kitchenaid parent co.)safety department. 866-640-7146 Janice of Ely, MN August 19, 2009 I have had my dishwasher and trash compactor for two months. The dishwasher died after using it no more than 10 times and my trash compactor shakes violently after trying to use it. I am so upset over all of it as I have always had great products from Kitchenaide, and these are terrible. Maria of Glen Arm, MD August 16, 2009 We purchased Kitchenaid dishwasher, model KUDSO2FRWH, Oct.2005. Last week the mechanism and/or spring that controls the door hinge made a loud noise and the door came crashing down and just missed my leg. I am grateful that my grandchildren were not here at that time. I contacted the manufacturer and was told the warranty has expired and we would have to incur the cost to repair the door. After reading the same complaints that we have, I believe the company should be responsible and replace or repair the dishwasher. The plastic mechanism that is used to control the door, which is very heavy, was not disclosed at the time time of purchase. I understand that other manufacturers use metal/steel pulleys on their dishwasher doors. Why didn't Kitchenaid do the same? They are suppose to be a reputable manufacturer that stands behind their product! J of Park City, UT August 1, 2009 I own a Kitchenaid dishwasher. Last night, the mechanism that controls the door hinge failed and the door came crashing down, nearly injuring my leg. Thankfully, there were no small children or pets under the door at the time, as the weight of the door could have knocked them unconscious. I contacted Kitchenaid this morning to check into a repair. I was told this was not covered under warranty. I then asked about a recall after reading numerous complaints about the very same thing happening to many consumers, like myself. I was told no such problem had been reported according to their records. I think the power of the Internet has empowered consumers and it would be a mistake to ignore the online forums. I consider this to be a safety problem with the product that needs to be addressed, more so than my personal disappointment in the fact that this is not covered under warranty. Model: KUDIO2FRBLO sandie of langley, BC July 30, 2009 I bought a kitchenaid dishwasher 3 years ago and i have had so many problems and service calls. Now that it isn't under warranty i have had to pay for the last service call. Now to-day the cable on the door broke and when it fell it hurt my hand. After reading all the customer complaints this seems to be an on-going problem. Why don't they design it differently? I am a single mom and i can"t be paying for service calls all the time. I bought a kitchenaid because i thought they were a good brand. I had a Bosch on hold and changed my mind at the last minute. One of the biggest mistakes I have made in buying all my appliances throughout the past years. All my friends have Bosch or Miele. I try to buy North American to support our businesses but I will think twice next time. Alexander of San Jose, CA July 26, 2009 We have had the Kitchen Aid dishwasher for two years. Six months ago the door hinge broke causing damage to my wife's wrist as she tried to catch the falling door. Based on my research, this is a know design defect. Given the number of complaints on line, I am wondering if there wouldn't be a lawyer interested in helping us all file a class action suit. So much for buying American. We're ready to invest in a Bocsh. Martin of Bethesda, MD July 25, 2009 KitchenAid Dishwasher (KUDS01FLSS0) same story as others on this page the nylon cord holding the door hinge broke, for a second time. Thanks to the information here I will 1) request a refund from Kitchenaid for expenses for first repair, and 2) buy a different brand washer, rather than spend another 250 to have it repaired Sharon of Weare, NH July 24, 2009 We purchased a new SS Kitchen Aid dishwasher and have horrible problems with the FINISH gel pacs and tablet detergent not disolving. We have turned up the water temp, run it on super hot, run the water for several minutes BEFORE turning the dishwasher on and it still does not dissolve. I have to run the dishwasher 4 times and then there is such a bad film on all the dishes and silverware that I have to use GLISTEN to clean it up...then I have to hand soak and wash the silverware as you can't use GLiSTEN on silverware...we are very disapointed with this dishwasher and with the FINISH dishwasher gel pacs and tablets...we are at our witts end about what to do... Christine of McLean, VA July 9, 2009 It's obvious that the cables that hold the doors to Kitchenaid dishwashers are completely faulty, after reading SEVERAL complaints of this problem for the month of June 2009 alone! Our 3 year old Kitchenaid dishwasher had the cables replaced three months ago, and the replacement cables broke again last week. Nothing is covered under the orignial warranty - and the replacement parts only have a 90 day warranty (we were at day 89), so, the company that made the repair is honoring the warranty, but the parts are likely to fail again because the cable is nylon wiht a plastic part covering it that seems to be the cause of wearing down the cable (according to our repair company who confirmed the problem is rampant - in fact when they went to pick up the replacement cables today, there weren't any left in the store because they are going like hotcakes ... I wonder why?!!! I am going to follow-up with Kitchenaid, but it doesn't sound like they will do anything to resolve the problem. This is a design failure and the cables are metal on other dishwashers. Unfortunately, Kitchenaid does not recommend replacing the cables w/ metal types, claiming they will not work (according to our repair company who actually looked up the Maytag wire cables and called Kitchenaid to ask the question). Either Kitchenaid needs to find metal cables that can be used, or pay to replace dishwashers with one's better designed. I'm NEVER buying a Kitchenaid again - here we come Bosch!!!
