Charlie of London KY (5/27/04):
I bought a home in 2001 that had all GE appliances. I thought they were excellent until I started to use them on a daily basis. After 6 months of use, my Spacemaker microwave started to take forever to heat and then failed completely. It was the magnetron, which I was told by the service rep had been recalled.

Since it was under warranty I didn't pay anything for the repair. Well, guess what? The microwave is shot again and guess what part is not covered under the warranty? The same piece of **** magnetron that failed the first time. On the part may be under warranty but the labor is not.

Then the refrigerator icemaker broke down. It still makes ice but the motor won't turn so I have to take it out manually. I'm done with GE and any other company that can't make a quality product at a reasonable price.

Linda of Dardenne Prairie MO (2/4/04):
We had our new home built in 1999. Had all our new GE appliances put in our new home. Our GE Profile SpacemakerXL Microwave Oven gave us so many problems. Two years later, Feb. 2002, needed a new control board, told us the part cost $250 - $275. Ordered the part, and put it on ourselves to save money. This year Jan. 2004, put a cup of water in to heat up, didn't work, called the service man to check out, says that it needed either magnatron or transformer. Service man says that it will cost $80.50 to take it to the shop and if it is transformer, it will cost $290.00 and if it is the magnetron, it cost $160.00. Am very upset with GE.

Pat of Hasbrouck Heights NJ (4/9/03):
The GE Spacemaker over-the-range microwave stopped heating up the food. I was told by GE service when I called that the magnatron tube went but it was under warranty and it could be fixed for a flat $75. My microwave was in the GE answer center's computer system and identified by my phone number. When the tech arrived, he told me that he did not have the right magnatron, my microwave was not under the warranty for the tube and that it couldn't be fixed. However, I was liable for the service call.

He put me through to his GE CR who insisted I pay the $75, even though the GE computer told the first service phone contact that the microwave was under warranty. I was offered the gift of a $25 coupon towards a future purchase. I did not care to pay $75 for a $25 coupon and no service. I refused to pay. I am waiting for the harassing payment notices to come.

Jessica of Zanesville OH (11/8/02):
I purchased a GE microwave model JE1140BL on 2-6-01. I paid $129.99. The magnatron went out 10-26-02. Although this part is under warranty they said that they would charge me $111 in labor to replace it. Shouldn't this product last more than 21 months? This $111 is not a house call but me taking it to the dealer that the GE guy stops at once a week anyways.
