Alice of dundas, ON September 16, 2009 I purchased a compact top mount refrigerator model FRT124FWO from Appliance Depot in Milton, in Sept 07, the fridge stopped cooling by nov/early dec 07...it took the service Tech's from T&G appliances 3 mos to get the parts, the fridge died again by oct 2008 of course nothing is covered(inside the freezor is icing up). it was fixed again under good will, now sept 09 it is broken again, the service guys are not even coming out as they know what is wrong, i am to get parts but I have to pay labor...hmm product defect...I have decide I am going to small claims court once its fixed, there is no way anything fixed should fail again, either the service is bad, the parts are bad or the fridge is a dud. Reina of Somerville, MA September 14, 2009 My boyfriend and I moved into a brand new condo June 2008. We bought an old house and completely gutted it. So we bought all brand new Frigidaire appliances for the condo. Our fridge is a complete piece of junk. It started not working about a two months ago in July. I called the company and they referred us to a service company. The service company took over a week to come and fix the fridge. The repairman told us that he was sorry but his business has been busy. Many of the Frigidaire fridges were having the same problem so his company was busy doing the same repair. After only one month the fridge is not working AGAIN. I called the company again and they said it was not longer covered and basically tough luck. The only thing they offered was a rebate for 30% off a new product. Why the hell would I want to buy another one of their products? The company and I are at a standstill. I am causing as much hell as I possibly can though. I am not letting this go. It is outrageous to have a fridge that only works for a little over a year. S. of Simi Valley, CA September 11, 2009 I purchased a 23 cubic foot side by sider refrigerator from Warehouse Discount Center near my home. Within 40 days of purchasing the unit it began to make a loud buzz. I recontacted the place of purchase but was told by the sales manager that they would do nothing about it. If not returned within 3 days, they don't care. I was told to contact Frigidaire. I called the Frigidaire 800 number and was referred via IVR (no real person) to a local service provider. I called them and they sent a technician out. The technician arrived, shirt unbuttoned down to his belly, and immediately removed the shelves in the freezer. He removed a panel and replaced the "evaporator fan". Replaced the panel and left. 20 minutes later the unit stopped working. We immediately called the firm and was told they were closed for the weekend. Despite my urgent voicemails left, no one returned my call until the following Tuesday after Labor Day. By this time we had gone back through the process of calling the Frigidaire service number and getting the number for another local service firm. We called Alan and Sons of Van Nuys, California. They sent a technician out on Wedneday. This technician took the same panel off and indicated a wire was not connected. He replaced the panel, waited 20 minutes for the electronics to reset and declared it fixed. 20 minutes after leaving the unit stopped working again. It remains unfixed despite my calling Frididaire directly, calling back to the second service provider and being told that they must wait for Fridaire to approve the parts they need. Interestingly, if I had not recontacted the second service provider, they would have recorded their service call as completed, unit fixed and forgotten about it! Not so. When I called the Frigidaire customer service number, I got a total run around. I was told that they would not replace the unit, despite having two separate companies come out and try to fix it and was even told that they would continue to send out technicians for as long as it would take! Absolutely no sensativity or appreciation for the fact that the unit was less than 60 days old and now was forcing me to avoid food spoilage due to their inability to provide a quality product and quality service! As of this note, the unit is still out and has been now since 9/2; nine days and counting. I have been told by the Alan and Sons Appliance that the earliest they can estimate the unit MAY be back in service is 9/18/09 and that is only IF they receive the parts from Figidaire by early next week. Sharon of MIDDLEFIELD, CT August 27, 2009 I bought my Frigidair gallery refrigerator from Bernies in Newington, CT. in 05, As we purchased it we also purchased the extended warranty. The Salesman from Bernies told us everything will be covered by this contract. meaning shelving, draws he told us bumper to bumper. Well After purchasing it the thermostat went we kept getting sour milk within a day of purchase. Then I called about the bottom draws and shelf it was cracked. The gentalman came out and looked at it and told me it's not covered because it's not a function of the fridge. It's cosmetic. Well while he was here i also mentioned that the fridge was running hard and long, There was and still is a gap on the freezer part where the door closes, He said it needed to be leveled didnt' even look at it at all. When my husband got home we check and the fridge is perfectly level, so now i have tape running across the top of the seal. I called again and never heard from them again. Well now it's 4 yrs old and every shelf is cracked can't use the bottom draws or shelf cause the shelf is in pieces, I mean what are you only suppose to put 1 jar of mayo on a shelf. i have to mention on this modle of fridge GD-21 the handles to open the doors, I have hit my head on the points of the handles like 6 time and 2 time drew blood, the design is awful. This is our second frigidair fridge and no no more will i buy this brand again, they seem to last 4 yrs then you have to get a new one even though you still have the service contract on it. our bill rose like 80.00 since we got it. Stan of Francestown, NH August 5, 2009 I purchased a brand new Frigidaire refrigerator in June of 2006 and the compressor failed July 29, 2009 after only three years of service. I spoke to their customer service center and they offered me a parts concession but was told I would need to pay the labor for installation. I was also referred by them to local authorized repair shop to diagnoses the problem and make the necessary repairs. The service company came out and confirmed that the compressor had indeed failed and quoted be a labor cost of 318 for the installation. I was frankly shocked at the amount and was also told they would need to order the compressor and it would probably be a week before they could make repairs. I also had to throw away all the contents of the refrigerator and freezer which was very costly to replace. Lastly I had to stay home from work for the service call, which was a major inconvenience. I e-mailed Frigidaire customer service and asked if they would help on the installation labor based on the age of the refrigerator, the lost groceries and missing work, unfortunately they refused. I also found out the replacement compressor is only warranted for 90 days and the labor for 30, sounds like I could be in for more trouble. This will absolutely be my last Frigidaire refrigerator. Model: PLHT219SCB9 JEFFERY of HARRISBURG, PA July 29, 2009 I called frigidaire over what i believe to be a defect in manufacturing. model frs26r2awb. the ice and water dispsncer is rusting through the exterior. the rust is about the size of my fist. it is only 5 years old. they told me that it was a cosmetic issue and not covered. BULL. it is not a cosmetic issue it is a defect. basically I was told to bad. it is only 5 years old and out of warrenty. Be responsible to the product you sell. Mary of Romulus, MI July 26, 2009 The refrigerator I purchased for my condo in FL on 2/1/04 caught fire in the freezer compartment. It warped the back freezer wall and all the freezer walls are black along with the ice cube trays. My neighbor that watches my place had to throw out all the food out of the refrigerator and freezer compartment. When I called Frigidaire, they are giving me a 30% rebate of my original purchase price if I buy another Frigidaire by August. I tried to explain that I won't be back in FL until October. No one seemed surprized that my freezer caught fire and no one offered to even look at it to see if there was a manufacturers' defect. Vivian of sherman oaks, CA July 21, 2009 Frigidaire side-by-side refrigerator - rust dripping down the freezer door coming from under the ice/water dispenser. The door surface (paint/coating) is bubbling. Model FRS26F5A The service tech told me that this is a very common problem - not covered. There have been 13 complaints posted on this site from July 2006 - June 2009, all stating the exact same issue. I hope everyone will make a formal complaint to their state consumer affairs agency, their state attorney general, and to Frigidaire HQ. This bad design is not new - Frigidaire should be held responsible for it. Cynthia of Woodstock, GA July 20, 2009 Originally, I went to the consumeraffairs.com website to file a complaint because the condenser in my Frigidaire refrigerator went bad after 5 years & 2 months and I was not getting satisfication from Frigidaire's customer service. While reading through other comments, I saw the link that your site had sent to the company asking what consumers should do when they encounter problems with their Electrolux / Frigidaire appliances. Consumeraffairs.com received a response from Chris P, the Escalation Specialist for Electrolux suggesting that consumers should contact him and give him the opportunity to look into any issues that had occurred. I decided I should contact Mr. P before filing a complaint because obviously I had not tried everything. Mr. P responded to my email immediately and offered me a couple of different solutions. I opted to have my refrigerator repaired and it is working as good as new. He took care of everything for me, all I had to do was schedule an appointment with one of their authorized dealers. I couldn’t be happier with the service and the solution. Vonetta of Springfield, MO July 13, 2009 I just ended a call with someone at corporate, who may have apologized profusely, but didn't resolve my problem in the end. After speaking with yet another deeply accented customer service representative who had a hard time understanding English at times, I was told I would not receive full reimbursement for the refrigerator that I had to rent while my brand-new Frigidaire refrigerator (that I'd only purchased less than six months prior) stopped cooling. It was bad enough to have most of my food go bad and deal with the inconveniences brought on by having to rent a large kitchen appliance and have it delivered and picked up, but then I received a reimbursement check in the mail over the weekend wherein my name was misspelled and the amount was wrong. So, fast forward to a few minutes ago, when I spoke with this customer service representative. She advised me the reason my check was a couple of dollars short was because they only reimburse actual rental charges, not taxes. My position is, that should not make a difference because I spent real money that went to a real rental company for its services that I needed while Frigidaire's own unit stopped working, therefore putting me in a bind. So, after learning this part of the reimbursement policy for the first time, I asked the representative to talk to someone to file a complaint over the phone. After much hesitation, she placed me on hold for a few minutes while she tried contacting someone at corporate. She returned to me, however, to let me know she had already "assisted" me and couldn't get ahold of anyone at corporate. So, I asked her again about being reimbursed in full to no avail. I then again requested to speak with someone at corporate, to which she responded in total silence. I asked her if she was still on the line with me. She responded to let me know she was still there but then went completely silent again. After a few seconds, I told her I was still waiting for her to respond to my request to speak with someone at corporate. Then and only then did she place me on hold (again) and come back with someone at corporate. This person at corporate further advised me the reason my check was a couple of dollars short was because they only reimburse actual rental charges, not taxes, because taxes are what each individual state charges and therefore not fees that rental companies actually pocket. And, all of this was AFTER I had been told by a previous representative my rental allowance would be almost double than what I ended up spending even after taxes were tacked on. The couple of dollars in taxes won't break me, obviously, but it's the situation as a whole, from the reps who had difficulty understanding English to the fact that the new refrigerator broke down in the first place. I advised the lady at corporate I would not be purchasing another Frigidaire in the future and did not appreciate receiving the poor customer service. Again, she apologized and said she would make a notation to better train their phone reps about making the reimbursement policy clearer to consumers. But, as for full reimbursement, no dice. I am curious. Is their position concerning not reimbursing customers for taxes that they've paid (such as in my case) even legal? Report Your Experience
