Emeril Cookware

Janet of Laguna Niguel CA (03/29/09)
I have purchased and daily used 3 Emeril fry pans for perhaps 10 years, while I was still employed. The food always sticks, they are difficult to clean and the black coating continuously rubs off on a paper towel leaving the interior of the pan an ugly looking mess. But because I'm now retired and regret the replacement cost I continued to use until 11/19/08. I was stir-frying onions for a couple of minutes and a 50 cent-size piece of metal blew out of the center of the pan showering the area with moulton metal sparks which burned holes in my rug and nearly burned me. I was deeply shaken.

The burner on my stove no longer worked, and cost me several hundred precious needed dollars to repair. The burned rug still needs replacement. The 3 fry pans (one with a hole in it)have yet to be replaced. The cost of stress to my blood pressure and heart rate, plus the inconvience and financial burden from this accident continue to distress. It wasn't until I read the consumer complaints today that I realized that it wasn't just a once-in-a-lifetime accident, but a faulty line of products for which no warning or recall or action has been taken. Is someone's burned child going to have to pay for this failure?

I just received an Emeril stainless steel cookware set for Christmas (3 months ago). The large 8 quart pot is rusting on the inside. I must have used the pot 2 times so far and in both cases, to boil some potatoes. I am getting ready to complain to Emeril cookware but don't even know where to start.

I received these as a wedding gift 9 months ago. They have been terrible to cook with. I had some really old cookware that was much better (and not a flashy name brand either). My 1qt. sauce pan leaks where the handle connects to the pan! HOW CRAZY! I kept wondering why I'd try to boil water and my burner would just sizzle the whole time! (I'm sure this was just great for my burner.) I just waited almost 20 minutes to talk to a customer service rep. Not much help there. I have to pay shipping back to them and then they will decide if it was their fault or mine. Really, how can I cause a pan to leak??? Not like I'm taking the handle off here people!

I have been very disappointed in the quality - I don't even use the frying pans. I had to tear my grilled cheese off of one it stuck so bad. Can never make any of the pans look even near clean.

What a huge waste! I'm thinking these may be finding a new home with someone else...

I just want everyone to be aware of this. We have enjoyed having our Emerilware -- until yesterday. I had a beef brisket simmering in the small Dutch oven all day. I brought it to a boil, then turned the heat down and covered it with the lid. Throughout the day, I kept looking through the glass lip, and wondering why there were not even tiny bubbles around the edges of the pot to indicate it was simmering. I kept it, though, on a low #2 setting on my electric stove. My husband came in in early and was going to add the vegetables to the pot. He picked up a regular eating fork, took the lid off, the fork hit the hot water -- it foamed and exploded!

HOT water went everywhere, including down the front of my husband's chest and on his hands and wrists. He turned and got cold water running on his burned parts immediately, but was trembling so badly from the pain. I was afraid he would go into shock so called 911. We were doing the right thing, and kept ice on the burned parts the rest of the evening. He took medicine for the pain, and put aloe vera on it at bedtime. He was fortunate to not be blistered this morning. I hope it continues that way. I'm just thankful it didn't hit his face and eyes. But now my friends and I are afraid to stick a fork in a potato in a pot of hot water (it was not visibly boiling by the way, like a microwave oven -- that's the part that bothers me, too --- no visible signs of how hot this pan was.) I am now scared to death to use these pans again! I've been trembling all day. I cannot not help but wonder what chemical or physical reaction occurred ... I've been sticking metal utencils in hot pots for years!!! I just want to get the word out to everyone to be careful!

My husband is crazy about the Emeril cooking show. My 3 daughters and I about 6-7 yrs ago purchased several pieces of cookware. we have 5 pieces and utensils. I don't think for the cost of the cookware that we have rec'd the quality we were hoping for. The problem is the frying pans mostly; the sticking to bottom of pan is terrible and the handles do get rather warm. Is this the way we should have expected the quality of such nice cookware? We are very disappointed. We still think alot of Emeril and watch him still. Maybe we have some bad pans... What can we do to correct this problem? Help me cook Emeril's way again with his pans.
