Black & Decker Toast-R-Oven |

Cindy of Oceanside, CA September 22, 2009 Black & Decker TRO964 Toaster Oven caught fire the 1st time I used it, its going back to the store tomorrow but these need to be recalled !!!! Loretta of Massapequa, NY August 12, 2009 I was making toast the other day and unfortunately, due to the poor design, I thought I turned the lower knob to the off position as the toast was becoming too brown, but the oven continuted to toast. The knob that you need to turn the oven off, does NOT have a stop position and if you go just a fraction beyond the line, the oven continues to cook!!! The toast burst into flames and as luck would have it, my kitchen door was open and my husband was able to carrying the flaming oven to our back yard where we extinguished the fire. If we had left the kitchen for any period of time, I am not sure that we would have had such a happy ending, as the flames were very intense and the kitchen filled with black smoke. The design should definitely be changed to include an off button that has a specific stop. Carlota of Houston, TX July 26, 2009 First toaster oven TR0700S after 11.5 months made the circuit breaker turn off/blow up when set to 'oven' and neither the oven or convection fan would work. Put a complaint to fox-international.com and they replaced the unit with another of the same. Six months later the oven stopped working, so did the convection button. Paid to mail the plug back in order to receive the first replacement oven and bought another toaster oven of a different brand to replace it. chris of swampscott, MA July 24, 2009 We purchased this product new to replace a well served older model a few months ago. Right away it felt poorly designed and very hot just a few minutes into toasting toast and was not sealed tight at the top. not only did it not toast bread well or evenly the picture shows some big roast in the unit. that is so unlikely due to so many limitations it has from lack of adjustable rack to the simple fact that it is not that big inside. The final and most concerning is the the fire we had inside tonight when we were just toasting some tiny pinenuts laying flat in the provided pan. It flared up so fast and created such heat that a fire broke out and that thick black smoke that smells of burned plastic is in every fiber of our house. This was not due to a build up of grease as the unit has barely been used. Never wrote a review before on a website but felt I neededd to warn others. Keith of New Athens, IL July 10, 2009 Smoke and the smell of burning electrical wires comes out of the temp dial on my TRO 4070 B and D toaster oven. It is a fire hazard of immense proportions. We need a recall. Larry of McMinnville, OR July 9, 2009 Six month old convection toaster oven (Black & Decker Toaster-R-Oven) will not turn off after timer has run down, resulting in burnt food. This a severe fire/smoke hazard especially in toaster mode. There are many complaints about these defective products on Consumer Affairs.com. I removed the oven from service for safety reasons. sherrie of monroeville, PA June 21, 2009 This toasteroven just stopped working after about 6 months of use. Tried to return it but this model has been relaced with different numbers so the store says it is not theirs.(can't find receipt) It has a 1 yr warrenty but what good is it. Tjhe stores that deal with black and decker should take it back and replace it with another and deal with the company for it's faulty product. Cindy of Oxford, CT May 6, 2009 I bought a Black & Decker toaster oven TR0390W Type 1, model 3042527 four and a half months ago and the toaster dial stopped functioning correctly at least two weeks ago. I can't find the receipt to return it, otherwise that's exactly what I would do. It is a fire waiting to happen. When the timer for the toast-function is set to light, medium or dark, the timer starts its ticking noise. At any point during the toasting operation the ticking will stop while the heating elements still continue to toast the bread as it burns or someone is in the room to hear that the ticking has stopped and they shut it off. If we don't notice this burning and stop it in time (and I assume one day this is likely to happen) I expect it will continue to burn the bread until it starts a fire. Dee of Oceanside, CA April 30, 2009 Black & Decker toaster oven model number TRO4070 is a fire waiting to happen. Certainly more items burn than not unless you stand there every minute watching the toasting process and remove it when done. I see others have reported this same model (and others), what does it take to get a company to make safe products and when necessary, to get a dangerous product recalled? This model should be recalled... June of Clifton, NJ April 20, 2009 Report Your Experience
