Black and Decker Toaster

Consumer Complaints & Reviews

The "VersaToast" wide-slice toaster was recalled in February 2002 because, as those below will testify, it can fail to shut off, posing a fire hazard. As those below will also testify, it wasn't always easy getting the new toaster the recall entitled them to.

I was given an Amazon gift card for Christmas and bought a Black and Decker toaster model t2707s. It is the worst toaster I have ever bought! The slots are too short to toast the top of the bread or bagels resulting in a slice of toast that is toasted on one half of the bread and one half that is still white! I did not save receipt or box that it came in. How can I get this replaced or get my money back?

I have a Black and Decker TRO480BS which was purchased at Kroger. We purchased this toaster oven two days ago. The second time we used it, it caused a fire. We had the temperature setting on "toast" as that is what we were heating. The timer was set at 10 and before the timer went off, the toast went up in flames and smoke came pouring out of the oven. I left the oven door closed so as not to fuel the fire and then I carried the oven outside with heavy oven mitts. I couldn't breathe and was choking but I made it outside.

Received a recall letter from them on a T1400 toaster. I have called them three times since Feb. They haven't responded.

I have called four times to receive my recall package for my Versa toaster to NO avail! This is taking six months to receive my package, which I havent't received yet. I am angry and confused on how a company can sell their product, but not take the recalled product back.

I purchased a Black and Decker four-slice toaster (T1400) and it was defective after one month. I then returned the toaster to Walmart and was given another toaster to replace the defective one. After having the toaster for maybe 3 months, the toaster (while not in use) caught on fire and burned my kitchen.
On January 14th, my home was on fire after my toaster simply burst into flames and suddenly shot fire onto my walls. My husband grabbed the burning toaster with his bare hands and threw it outside. However, it was too late, the kitchen was on fire. The fire department was called and the fire was put out.

If this had happened while we were sleeping we may not have lived. I am in the process of my insurance company completing paperwork on this fire. There is no reason a toaster should begin a fire in this manner. If my husband had not grabbed the toaster with his bare hands, the fire would have destroyed my whole home. This is not acceptable!
